Theme Of The Signalman And The Signalman
In Gothic Literature, writers are able to choose between traditional and contemporary. This style of
writing typically relates back to fiction that gives an atmosphere of uncertainty by featuring horror,
death, curses or the supernatural. In The Signalman written by Charles Dickens, we can depict that
his writing falls under the category of traditional gothic literature as he chooses to stress the fear of
the unknown whether it be the setting or the supernatural. On the contrary, Roald Dahlwho wrote
Lamb to the Slaughter chooses to write under the category of contemporary gothic literature, as we
are introduced to a familiar setting, and common issues that arise when we face reality.
Nevertheless, both stories choose to emphasize the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Dickens, the recurrence of insanity would make sense as his style of writing tends to include
the supernatural and the paranormal, however, for Dahl, the recurrence of insanity would come as a
shock to many since contemporary gothic literature includes more events that familiar and realistic.
Dickens characters insanity can be seen in the quote How your imagination misleads you because
once the Signalman saw the individual that appeared to him, his mind began racing with thoughts
that seemed to overwhelm him. He couldn t think straight as his mind was focused on figuring out
what it was and why it seemed to warn him, and this ultimately led to his demise. By zooming in on
the word misleads , it evidently shows us how he was involuntarily submerged with thoughts that
drowned him and how failing to control his sanity led to his downfall, and later, his death.
Additionally, the quote May have been infection in his mind similarly shows us how the appearance
of the individual almost triggered this thought that infected his mind and rid him of thoughts that
were unperturbed. He thought that he was seeing things, and not experiencing them, and because of
that, he had a strenuous yet continuous fight with his judgment and let it overcome him easily. By
zooming into the word infection , we see how inauspicious it is, it wasn t

The Latin Artist Essay
The Latin Artist The Latin experience as a whole encapsulates a world that not many get to
experience. Those who do, brag of its liveliness; those who don t, gawk at it. What isn t known is
how the latin artist, whose culture places values on work and family much higher than creative
expression, survives through such tyranny. Artists such as Gabriel Marquez and Gabriel Mistra use
their culture to inspire their writing. Their work, much like the work of other writers and poets, is
depressing to say the least. With no support from a community, these artists use metaphors, vivid
imagery, and other effective literary devices in order to convey the neglect that they have grown
accustomed to. Latin Americaand it s people have had a hard time pursuing freedom. While

The idea that other people will eventually influence her daughter s decisions convinces her that
other s will tell her daughter to leave her. This is a very real fear that mothers of Latin American
descent are historically known for having. As their daughters grow and mature, the idea of one day
achieving full independence is a threat that many feel. The mother in this poem so afraid that her
daughter will grow up and not want to be around her anymore that she lets this thought haunt her. I
do not want them to turn my child into a swallow (Mistral). The swallow in this poem symbolizes
a bird leaving the nest. As the poem progresses, the reader learns more about the small threats that
the mother feels. As is apparent by the popular and critical acclaim lavished upon her work about
motherhood, Mistral was able to touch upon the very real emotions of the experience even though
she did not live the experience herself. By connecting to the thoughts and emotions that the women

How ATVs Work Essay
Thesis statement: All terrain vehicles are helpful and useful and I will explain how they work and
how to fix them in this paper.
Outline: Inn this paper I will discuss ATV s and general knowledge and getting them wet. I also
will discuss their origin and how they need care and how to keep them doing good for a long time.
What is an ATV? It is an All Terrain Vehicle, also called three or four wheelers. It is also called a
quad or ATV. An ATV is built to go where other vehicles
cannot go. ATV s are also built to handle
a lot of stress and abuse. ATV s are virtually indestructible; however, they have a few weaknesses
and it is important to know and understand those few weaknesses. You should always do a... Show

The compression then stroke follows, and the charge is ignited when the piston reaches the end of
this stroke. The piston then moves outward on the power stroke, uncovering the exhaust port and
permitting the gases to escape from the combustion chamber.1 The four stroke model has four
strokes instead of two. The strokes are Intake, into which a mixture of gas and air are pulled into
the cylinder. Second, Compression, where the piston moves up and the gases are compressed. The
Third is power in which the spark plug fires and ignites the compressed gases, And last is exhaust

and will save money in the long run. For example adding transmission fluid or crankcase oil could
save hundreds at a repair shop. Some times repairs get challenging as your quad (ATV) ages it will
need special care such as an oil change, Brake pads, spark

Post Co Op Reflection At The Massachusetts Clean Energy...
Post Co op Reflection
A day after I completed my second cooperative at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center
(MassCEC), I immediately transitioned to a new position at a startup company called
EnergySage. On my first day at EnergySage, which is an online solar power marketplace that
was created to help consumers learn more about solar and make comparisons between pre
screened solar installers and their quotes, I realized how unique my experience was at MassCEC
and how thankful I was for it. Aside from the distinctive atmosphere of MassCEC, the quasi public
agency treated their co op students as equal contributors to the company s mission and had a
particular focus on providing professional development in exchange for our hard work. Our ... Show

I discovered I had a passion for pursuing a career in the clean energy industry and I wanted to
delve deeper into the various sub sectors to determine where I fit best, which led to the revision
of my ninth goal (see Appendix B) to include the goal of better understanding my desired role in
the clean energy industry and the necessary steps to achieve these ambitions. In addition, I wanted
to enhance my skillset which include interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and
complete the internship with a range of new skills. Through my position, I was fortunate enough
to have many professional development experiences, which led to networking, outreach and
leading and organizing meetings. Perhaps, the biggest lesson of all was how essential building
your network will be to achieving your goals. This led to revision of my seventh goal to include
networking and outreach as the desired skills I received. These two professional goals are
reflective of what I hope to achieve in the future and hence why I took on my current internship.
I truly enjoyed this past co op experience and felt that most aspects were enjoyable, rather than
difficult. What I enjoyed most was the freedom and the trust that was present between my team
and I, as my supervisors often gave me a lot of responsibility and praised me for how I handled it.
Good communication and respect was always present amongst my fellow Innovation and Industry

Janice Kindred In Town Gallery Analysis
Chattanooga s In Town Gallery was founded in 1974, and it is home to the workings of local
artists. Upon visiting this gallery, I was able to have the unique advantage of conversing with one
of the artists themselves, Janice Kindred. I was able to grasp an understanding of the different
medias and techniques used in the paintings and other artworks. In addition, I was able to develop
an appreciation of the artists works.
The first piece that struck my eye was Vincent, a painting by Janice Kindred herself. Vincent is a
painting done in acrylic. It is a colorful and vivid arrangement of a nature scene featuring trees
standing upon a cliff that foray one s attention. Upon looking at this painting, the sky fascinated me
the most. It was portrayed in bright blues, pinks, and purples. When talking to Kindred, she

pop of many colors. What also stood out to me was the layering technique similar to Kindred s.
Lastly, I saw Chuck Frye s Snowy Day in the Cove. Different from the other paintings, this was
done with oil. Like Frye s other works, Snowy Day in the Cove, focuses on realism. Frye enjoys
capturing the natural harmony found within landscapes. In this painting, one sees I a desolate cabin

The Passionate Shepherd Essay
The Passionate Shepherd and The Nymph s Reply are two very intriguing poems with two
different viewpoints on Love, Nature, Time, and the Materialistic world. In this comparative essay
you will understand how two people love each other unconditionally, but have divergent views on
how to love one another. The Shepherd is in lovewith the nymph and he believes that if he gives
her everything that she ambitiously desires then she ll come and dwell with him. To me the
Shepherd s love is more based around items and materials in general, his love was more
materialistic and idealistic that actually putting love into it. Yes, he meant well and all but you
have to think no woman is going to stay around long if the only thing that the man does is get her
stuff all the time. Now, the Nymph she loves the Shepherd and wants to go live with him, but she
wants him to actually think that instead of flowers and skirts she wants love and affection. She
wants someone that s going to love her and not hurt her. She wants to feel like what she s getting
herself into is going to last, instead of giving her another heartbreak. But the love is there for both
of them, they are both just trying to find some way for the other one to understand.
The nature (tone) of both poems is having, dissimilar viewpoints also. The Shepherd s tone was
more warm and happy thoughts. He was excited and he focused on his future with the Nymph,
he had a melodious tone, almost like a lullaby. The Nymph s nature was death related, she was
more worried about what if things didn t work out where was that going to leave her and she
was more focused on the past, like she felt that the Shepherd was going to be like another man
that she has dealt with. She viewed nature in a cold winter like view, she feels like everything will
inevitably leave. Their natures were like seasons; the Shepherds nature was like summer and
spring where everything is happy and alive, and the nymph s nature was like winter where
everything is cold and dead.
Their view of time pretty much ties in with the way that they had viewed nature, the Shepherd
believed that their love will grow overtime, he thinks that love is a forever thing. He is in a trance
of a world where everything is all

Persuasive Essay On Police Violence
The protest started with Colin Kaepernick sitting down during the National Anthem for police
brutality so just because he did something small for justice means he should be unemployed and
lose millions of dollars. So now most of the NFL players kneel during the national anthem. When
Trump saw this he said the the players should be fired or the people that go there should walk
out. When the NFL heard about this lot were outraged, all of the teams lock arms and stand
close together some also kneels. Two teams stayed in their locker rooms when the National
Anthem was sung. A National Anthem singer for a Titans game kneeled during the whole song
she sung, as well a local singer for the Lions and Falcons game but for the most of the song he
stood until the ending he knelt and held up a fist as he sang the last word of the song. This
whole controversy is just messed up. Politics should not get into sports period and just stay
worried about bigger things like North Korea. So why should he worry about the NFL. Politics
should never be into sports because they are all private organizations so he should be telling them
what to do. But why do people want to boycott the NFL, They aren t disrespecting the song at all
they just want to make a statement just equal justice and if people can t see that then why get mad

Spain is facing an uprising in politics and their economy due to the contested independence

Catalonia is a democracy, and in a democracy the citizens are allowed to share their voices. But on
that Sunday, October 1st, over 900 people were injured for protesting and voting. Many police fired
rubber bullets and used batons to beat the protesters and voters up. These were not the same
protesters as before, these citizens were in support of the split between Catalonia and Spain.
Downtown Barcelona has been wild since this idea of splitting came about but there has been
talk about positive outcomes in the future for the region of Catalonia and Spain. Since Catalonia
has proven itself as an independent region in the past, there are many new aspects. On December
21st, there will be a new regional election because the one before had 90% of voters supported
this idea and the police did not understand. Also with the voting day before, many in Madrid
believe the voting was fair/ true but the Prime Minister Rajoy believed that it was illegal and not
fair because many did not vote due to the physical abuse given by the police. Until December
21st, the best thing anyone can do is to just wait. Waiting for any responses and news about what
has happened in the Catalonia region can take forever, but is hopefully worth the wait. As Spain

The Effect Of Income Levels On The Investment Choices...
4.3 Results for Objective #2 Whether RRSP is better for high income earners
Based on our data collected, we have compiled tables and graphs in order to visually represent our
selected data and to test our hypothesis. Since our main objective of this research paper is to
determine the effect of income levels on the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA, the
sample from investors with both and neither plans were excluded when testing the hypothesis in
order to isolate the variables that we wanted to test. Therefore only 79 participants would be
considered when examining whether RRSP is better for high income investors. The investment
options of these 79 participants were shown as Illustration 4.3.1 as below. ... Show more content on

After removing those sample we were left with 79 participants who either chose TFSA or RRSP
for their retirement savings. For this test we used a significant level of 5%. With the degree of
freedom of 77 and a 5% significance level we arrived at a t value of 1.990 and 1.990. Since our
calculated t critical value of 1.019 does not fall into the rejection region of 1.990 and 1.990 we
have concluded that we do not reject the null hypothesis, shown as Illustration 4.3.6 as below.
Chapter 5 Major Findings and Discussion
The purpose of the survey was to determine whether there is a relationship between investors
income level and their investment options of RRSP and TFSA. Our literature review suggested that
investors with higher income would be more favourable when choosing RRSP rather than TFSA.
The null hypothesis was structured assuming there is no relationship between the income level and
the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA. Based on the t test we conducted using SPSS,
we do not reject the null hypothesis (H0), which suggests that with a significance level of 5% we
cannot conclude that the investors that chose RRSP had a higher income than the investors who
chose TFSA. Therefore, the test result turned out to be different from what we have concluded from
the literature review.
As we discussed based on the secondary research,

The Effects Of Child Labor On The Chocolate Industry
The Effects of Child Labor in the Chocolate Industry: December 6, 2015, was an important day for
many Americans, as it marked the 150th year since the abolishment of slavery when the U.S.
authorized the 13th Amendment to the Constitution to end what can be described as the darkest
chapter of American history. Many in Western Society seem to be unaware of the contemporary
slavery still plaguing many developing countries, particularly involving children. The 2010
documentary film called The Dark Side of Chocolate explored the modern day slavery that is
occurring within many West African countries, where children are being exploited and trafficked in
order to harvest chocolate. In fact, the United States Department of State estimates that
approximately 109,000 children in the Ivory Coast s cocoa industry work under the worst forms of
child labor (Mustapha, 2010, p.3).
By exploring the use of child labor in the chocolate industry in West Africa, this paper will present
the argument where I will argue that the unethical use of child labor has led to impoverished
families, negative health impacts among children, and has affected economies in West Africa. In
order to overcome this situation, there is a need for enforced policies, government action, and
corporations taking accountability in order to put an end to child labor. The first part of the paper
will discuss how the cocoa industry affects families, the health of child laborers, and the economy,

Comparing Death And Rebirth
Within some forms of SD, there is the belief that regard Atman and Brahman as one, which is
better known as a monistic point of view, (monism). What this simply entails is that, all reality is
ultimately one (91, 5). Now, in order for Atman [the undying soul (OUP, 8/14)] to achieve moksha
(the final release from the cycle of death and rebirth) and at last reunite itself with Brahmanas a
single entity, Atman must first rid itself of its karma. Karma can be compared to that of a checklist
when putting it in simpler terms. Because Atman is stuck within samsara [cycle of death and
rebirth (91, 3)], it must complete this list of actions [karma, (cn, 9/8)], whether it be during one life
or many lives, until the undying soul has achieved moksha,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many African religions consider the High God [supreme deity (64, 2)] to be transcendent and
removed from the lives of humans (64, 3) and that their daily lives are influenced or controlled
by gods or other supernatural beings (64, 2). Whereas, in SD, the supreme deity in this case
would be Brahman (which the soul cannot reunite with until it has achieved moksha) and that
the daily, as well as future, lives of Hindus is determined by one s karma (cn, 9/14). I found these
commonalities to be quite similar, yet at the same time vastly different because, within African
religions, the High God could differ among separate groups of people [such as with the Dogon,
who view Amma as their High God (64, 3) and the Samburu people of Kenya who believe in
Nkai (64, 4)]. In SD, the ultimate entity is undoubtedly Brahman, for it is when Atman achieves
moksha that it finally realizes its true self and is freed from the Saha world (cn, 9/12). If there was
one idea that can be derived from this information about human existence, it would be the certainty
that all those people hold the belief of a supernatural being that resides within a separate realm of

The Impact Of Fair Value On Financial Reporting Essay
The most controversial topic of today s time in the world of accounting is fair value. However,
one common point of confusion is the scale of businesses affected by fair value, and when fair
value came onto the scene. According to Robert Herz and Linda MacDonald ...the use of fair
value in financial reporting is not new. In fact, it has been in place for decades, principally for
financial assets. But even then, fair valueis not required for all assets. (2008) The idea of using fair
value measurements goes back at least to the 1930 s when Kenneth MacNeal wrote Truth in
Accounting. It wasn t until 1993, however, until the FASB released SFAS 115. SFAS 115
addresses the accounting and reporting for investments in equity securities that have readily
determinable fair values and for all investments in debt securities. (FASB 1993) In 2006 the
FASB released SFAS 157, which established a framework for measuring fair value. SFAS 157
also requires significantly more disclosures about fair value estimates than ever before. (FASB
2006) Finally the FASB issues SFAS 159, which permits entities to choose to measure many
financial instruments and certain other items at fair value. (FASB 2007) These statements set the
stage for the discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of fair value. Also discussed, will be
the problems with implementation of a full fair value measurement system. That discussion will be
followed by a brief summary.

The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake Of 1906
The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
Geologic Aspect
On April 18, 1906 at 5:12 a.m. an earthquake of an estimated moment magnitude of 7.8 hit
Northern California. High intensity shaking was felt stretching from Salinas Valley to Eureka on
the North Coast. The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 was one of the worst and most fatal
earthquakes in both California s and the United States history.
California, and thus San Francisco, lies on the San Andres fault. The earthquake was caused when
this fault suddenly shifted, with the rupture spreading for a total of 476 kilometres in northward
and southward direction. This fault is a continental transform fault, which forms part of the tectonic
boundary between the North American Plate and the Pacific Plate. (1906 Earthquake: How long
was the 1906 Crack? USGS Earthquake Hazards Program Northern California, Accessed
September 3, 2006). 1 The distance of the fault is of about 1300 kilometres, which runs the length
of California from Cape Mendocino in the north to the Salton Sea in the south. Geologists have
estimated that the fault moved as quickly as 2.74 kilometres per second. The San Andreas Fault, the
source of this disaster, lies ten miles or deeper, at the meeting point of two tectonic plates, the
Pacific and the North American. The right lateral strike slip fault is characterized by mainly lateral
motion in a dextral sense, where the western plate (Pacific plate) moves northward relative to the

Contemporary Art: Dealing with Post Modernity

Postmodernism embraces hypertext and hyperplicity, or the rejection of centralized control. It
looses trust in the media and public communication, embracing simulacrum as a hyper reality that
was only long ago based on some sort of truth. Most importantly, Postmodernism rejects the
Modernist idea of high art as normative and dominant. Instead, it merges the concept of low and
high art, effectively canceling them both. Where Modernism saw a work of art as a finished
product, signed by the artist and authenticated by the art market,
Postmodernism sees art as a recycling of culture, authenticated by whatever audience that may be.
Where Modern art is a separate dichotomy of contrasting themes (organic/nonorganic, realist
/abstract), Postmodern art mixes all available ideas into a sensational pastiche. Finally Modernism
clearly divided normity versus sexual difference and pornography. Postmodernism embraces
whatever ideas have an audience, and mixes polymorphous sexuality and pornography with
mainstream media. Postmodernist art and media reject the linear way of working, building upon a
specific discourse and ideology. It embraces instead, an anything goes attitude, expanding mediums
and messages into multiple directions. As long as there s an audience somewhere, the work can be
considered legitimate art.

Monteverdi
In contemporary music, composers will use bridges to change the tone of a song. When the song
needs to change, they will include a small section that stands out from the rest of the piece so it can
bring a smooth transition to the rest of the song. Similarly, Claudio Monteverdi became that bridge
between the Renaissance and the coming BaroquePeriod. The world was so focused on humanism
and darkness throughout the Renaissance, but Monteverdi was born on the edge of darkness, and
helped show the path into light. Claudio Monteverdi exemplified the shift in worldview from the
Renaissance to the Baroque Period through his music.

Carlo Gesualdo, a Renaissance composer, used five part harmony and very little accompaniment in
his piece Moro Lasso (Sivylla). This emphasized the vocalists by using complexity to add weight to
their sound, and the light accompaniment draws it out even further, since there are no instruments
to take away from the voices. This somewhat reflects the Renaissance worldview, by putting the
emphasis on humans. Years later, when Monteverdi began composing, he used light
accompaniment like Gesualdo, often just using a light piano. However, he uses a solitary female
voice in both Lasciatemi Morire! and Lamento del la Ninfa (Rules; Pianorules). This lessens the
overall weight of the piece, while still putting the emphasis on the vocalist, which then eases
listeners into later music, such as Alessandro Scarlatti. Scarlatti used heavier accompaniment in
Sento Nel Core to create a fuller sound with a lighter, airier tone to emphasize a single female voice
(Kanal). The strings accompanying her accentuate her voice, but they create a melody of their own,
drawing some attention to themselves instead of just the woman s voice. Monteverdi showed the

of view in this novel. The unique perspective from Ginny not only allows the reader to view the
events from her own angle, but it also allows the readers to understand her personality. In addition,
this quote describes the tragedy of the farmer s life: no new possibilities of adventure or travel. This
foretells the possible challenges that occur between generations because the elders do not have an

that she escaped from living on a farm and had the ability to choose her life. | It was exhausting

all of us, who were failing, and the hallmark of our failure was the way we are with our heads

time, Ginny has an epiphany as to why family meals tend to be painfully agonizing; because they
do not even try to enjoy the time they are spending together. Instead, they all just try to finish the
food quickly and quietly in order to leave the table as fast as possible.| Now that I remembered

The atmosphere created makes it difficult for the readers not to feel sympathy for Ginny as she
discovers parts of herself she had never taken notice of before. From fear of her father s oppression,

One example is, Now the thrill is gone, got not patience, cause I m not a doctor. There, he
interprets patience as patients, stating he has no patients because he is not a doctor. He is also
saying that he has no patience for the events that are going on in his life. In the next few lines he
calls a girl Mufasa because she is lying. There, Gambino uses a metaphor to express how he feels
about the girl; he calls her Mufasa, a lion. Lying can also be misheard as lion ; so in essence,
Gambino called her out for lying twice. In the next line, he uses a simile with a play on words
with the Gaza strip. The line begins, yeah, mi casa su casa, got it stripping like Gaza, ; the Gaza
strip is a famous land area in the middle east. Gambino switches the order of the words and
makes strip into a verb. The lines of the song mean that in essence, his home is her home and she
basically makes herself comfortable by stripping down. The verse closes with the lines, sorry, I m
just scared of the future. Till 3005, I got your back, we can do this, hold up. At this point, the
audience can maybe interpret the lines as him maybe being afraid to be with the girl at that point,
he says that he is scared of the future, and his future is with her. Even though he has her back, he is
still hesitant about it because of their

Essay On Satyam Scandal
RECOMMENDATION
The 2009 Satyam scandal in India has highlighted the shameful potential of an improperly
governed corporate leader. Some recommendations can be made from the mistakes learnt from the
scandal to further avoid such mishaps. First, all inaccuracies are to be investigated as a lot of fraud
schemes initially start out small, with the thought that small changes here and there would not
make a big difference, and is less likely to be detected. The fraud scheme at Satyam started very
small that eventually grew into $276 million. Second, Corporate Governance needs to be Stronger
as a Fraud of such a kind does not only look bad on a company; it also ruins the reputation of the

The culture at Satyam, especially dominated by the board, represented an unethical culture.
Satyam was brought to its knee due to tunneling effect unlike Enron, which sank due to agency

ethics. The debacle of Satyam raised a debate about the role of CEO in driving an organization to
the heights of success and its relationship with the board members and ore committees. The fraud at
Satyam brought to the light the role of CG in influencing the protocols related to the working of
audit committee and duties of board members (Niazi, and Ali, 2015). The government of India took
very quick actions to protect the interest of the investors of Satyam, the nation s image across the
world and, safeguard the credibility of India. Moreover, Satyam fraud has forced the government to
re‐write the CG rules and tightened the norms for auditors and accountants (Bhasin, 2013b). The
Indian affiliate of PwC ―routinely failed to follow the most basic audit procedures. The SEC
and the PCAOB fined the affiliate, PwC India, $7.5 million in what was described as the largest
American penalty ever against a foreign accounting firm (Norris, 2011). According to Mr. Chopra,
President (ICAI), ―The Satyam fraud was not an auditing or accounting failure, but one of CG.
This apex body had found the two PwC auditors prima facie guilty of professional misconduct. The
CBI, which investigated the Satyam fraud case, also charged the two auditors with complicity in
the commission of the fraud by consciously overlooking the accounting irregularities. The Satyam
fraud, finally, had to end and the implications were having far reaching consequences. With all the

The newly machine presents a few factors that were absent in the previous model. One of those
factors that wasn t present in the old model that s now present in the new model is the capability
of microscopic imaging down to microns. The old model only presented items in mono tones
instead of color imaging. Color imaging gives a technician the upper hand when it comes to
narrowing down specific specimens that may be in need of color, something the older model also
lacked. Also, the new model has been enhanced with a very strong and magnetic light source; with
the newly technological invention the light source enables examiners to rotate light to capture very
punitive stringent marks and features, something that the older model also lacked. One way to scan

Personal Stereotypes
Although our personal stereotypes and biases greatly impact our view of others and the world

influence in the lives of the people we judge? Today when we hear and use the word stereotype , it
is usually within a negative context; it carries a negative charge. However, there are those who
persist in asserting the positive effects of stereotypes. As was discussed earlier, stereotypes are
convenient for situations where we need to execute swift judgments and lack the time to properly

Continuing with the example of Asian Americans from the prior paragraph, we can observe......
Asian Americans are thought to achieve a higher degree of success than the average population.
Asian American students are expected to achieve high marks, play instruments, aspire to be a
physician, and set ambitious goals; they are stereotyped as the model minority. This stigma seems
like it should be a compliment to hard work, but it permeates their lives far beyond the surface
level. These students set incredibly high standards for themselves, and are conditioned to accept
nothing short of perfection in the work that they do. The overwhelming stress of living up to the
highest standards causes students to suffer psychological, emotional, and academic costs, and they
begin to measure their self worth by quantitative achievement; poor performance is indicative of
inferiority. These attitudes are ingrained during developmental years and persist in later years. The
model minority creates an illusion of perfect Asian American students who feel emotionally isolated
and hopeless because their needs become neglected and ignored. Students refuse to seek help in
times of need because doing so seems like admitting failure. When Asian American students fail to
meet academic goals and standards, they suffer from feelings of shame and inadequacy.

I Am A Soldier And A Good Person
The army has taught me so many great things. It taught me how to be a disciplined soldier and a
good person. I was inexperienced of life before I joined the army. Therefore, I was overwhelmed
of life lessons when I came to basic training. However, I learned the seven army values which were
loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrityand personal courage; I experienced every
value throughout my training process. They help me to discipline myself to be a good soldier and a
good person. The value that I honored most was integrity. I was taught that integrity was doing
what s right, legally and morally. However, throughout my training experience, I understand
integrity as fearless, to tell the truth, responsible for your own action, and hardworking.
Integrity means the courage, to tell the truth. In the beginning of my training process, I was told
to study the seven army values by heart. I didn t understand why my drill sergeants made such a
big deal about those values. The seven words were easy to remember, and we all knew the
meaning of them. However, I changed my mind when I witness Lopez s situation. Lopez ate a
Twister bar and left its wrap in the trash can. My drill sergeants found out about it and questioned
the whole platoon. Lopez was fear of the punishment, so he didn t admit his wrong action. Lopez
was considered having no integrity by the whole platoon. However, Lopez wasn t the only one
who was accused of having no integrity; my drill sergeants were

Analysis Of The Book Hannah Arendt
In Eichmann in Jerusalem, Hannah Arendt analyzes Adolph Eichmann while he is on trial in
Jerusalem for the crimes that he committed while being a Lieutenant Colonel in the SS during
the Nazi Regime. In the book Arendt talks about how Eichmann s actions were banal in the
sense that he seemed to be an ordinary person who just committed acts that were evil. Italian
Jewish Writer Primo Levi, a Holocaust Survivor, states that SS officers like Eichmann lived in
their own self deception that made them believe that their actions were caused by just following
their orders in the SS. In this paper, I will analyze the views that both Arendt and Levi had about
the Eichmann trial and then compare and state the differences of their views. I will then explain
the reasons why both Hannah Arendt s and Primo Levi s analysis of Adolph Eichmann that show
that the actions that he committed were all truly evil actions. I ll first talk about Hannah Arendt s
analysis of the Adolph Eichmann and also talk about how his motives for committing the crimes
were a banality of evil . Viewing the trial first hand, Arendt bases her analysis of Eichmann of the
criminal charges that he is indicted on, his motives for the crimes, and how he tried to defend
himself during the trial. The way that Arendt perceives Eichmann is by the fact that he was aware
of the seriousness of the crimes that he committed at the trial, but he did not have the evil motives
that would usually be seen in the type of heinous

Essay about Gender Bias Critic of Antigone
A Gender Bias Approach to Antigone
Just as one stone removed can break a bridge, one flaw can bring a man to ruins. The flaw of one
man cannot bring down an entire kingdom, but rather one outlook of the king can lead to the
demise of the whole. In Sophocles epic tragedy, Antigone, a strong gender bias is present
throughout the tragedy, and is partially responsible for the downfall of the king.
To Sophocles the king is not always representative of the people, but acts on his own personal
desires and judgments. Sophocles was born in 496 B.C. and from 490 B.C. until 442 B.C. when the
first performance of Antigone at the Dionysian theater; there had been many wars in the Greek and
Persian history. These ongoing battles would not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was not until 442 B.C. that he wrote Antigone, with an even greater allusion to the role of women.
Before Antigone begins, the two brothers of Antigone are engaged in a battle no only of land,
but of power. Their deep desires to rule Thebes and male dominating ego, only lead to their
deaths; a tragedy that would affect more than just themselves. The battle of glory for men would
not be the same for their sisters, but in 442 B.C. as Sophocles illustrates, the living women
would have to deal with the tragedies of the dead; a task not easy to be burdened with as woman.
Their uncle, Creon, dominates Antigone and her sister Ismene to the extent of mourning their
own brother s death. Antigone has chosen a fate without glory: I ll suffer nothing as great as
death without glory, (Antigone line 112). Only a male in this time could die with honor and
glory, and just as her uncle has forced a death without glory for her brother, although a glorious
death is honorable, she has decided it a better life to die without glory than dishonor her blood
and the gods. Ismene does not wish to go against the laws of her uncle, for women were not born
to contend with men, but between the bond of her and Antigone, she will defy the king(line 75).
Ismene is just as horrified about the edict as Antigone is, but asks what they weak women can do.
During this era the women had a specific role, and to defy that role would be horrific enough,
despite

Factors That Led To The Collapse Of The Mayan Civilization
The Maya civilization was one of the most successful civilizations of its time. The Mayans were
one of the most dominant civilizations in Mesoamerica, located in tropic lowlands in what is now
known as Guatemala. The Mayans were very religious, as they worshipped gods that were related
to nature, such as a rain god and a sun god. They were an agricultural society that mostly relied on
trade in order to get their resources. Mayans were often seen as advanced compared to other
European civilizations with their arts, writing, agricultural techniques, and their architecture. Even
though the Maya civilizationwas very successful, it eventually collapsed. Historians often debate
about how such an advanced civilization could have collapsed. Although there were many factors
that contributed to the collapse of the Mayan, the three that contributed the most were the
collapsing social structure, a decrease in resources, and as well as drought.
One factor that contributed to the Maya Collapse was the fact that their once strong social class
was beginning to fall. The Maya social class was made up of nobles, farmers and slaves. Over
time, this system started to become unorganized. In his article, Maya Collapse: Recent Insight on
the Classic Maya Collapse, Joel Palka describes that Mayan cities either fell or thrived due to the
way their politics and religion were handled. The cities that thrived either negotiated their power or
had it distributed equally through calendar cycles. The

Philosophy of Psychology

Freed Hardeman University Philosophy of Psychology
Introduction
As an occupational therapist, I hope to use a number of different psychological theories. The main
perspective I will use is Behavior Psychology. Most of my therapy techniques will come from
Skinner s theory of operant condition. By using Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), I can help
modify children s behavior. The second perspective I will use is Neuropsychology. In treating
autistic children, and other people with various disorders, it is important to understand the different
brain chemistry that each has. In most circumstances, a part of the brain is affected that inhibits an
aspect of the child s behavior.
History
Both behavioral psychology and neuropsychology have rich backgrounds. For the purposes of my
philosophy of psychology, I will cover operant condition and Skinner s approach to verbal
behavior. I will also look aspects of neuropsychology such as neuroplasticity and the dimensional
systems model. I will also look at Sensory Integration theory, which combines a number of different
perspectives including behavioral and neuropsychology.
Behavioral Therapy
The father of Behavioral Psychology is Watson. Another iconic psychologist in this aspect is B. F.
Skinner. Skinner s major theory is operant conditioning. Operant behavior is defined as behavior
controlled by its consequences (Staddon Cerutti, 2003). Operant behavior also uses reinforcement

Dbq On The Progressive Era
The Progressive ear, occurring between the years of 1890 to 1920 and was a reaction to the second

The progressive era was a time of enlightenment and reform for the United State, in that it
improved the quality of life through government regulation, muckraking, and conservation. During

President Theodore Roosevelt, a leader of progressivism was highly in favor for a reform at a
national level. He believed it was the governments duty to regulated businesses and improve the

also gave corporate bosses excessive amount of power, which they used to bend political parties
to their favor and progressives such as president Wilson hoped to rectify this(Document 2). During
this progressive movement many Americans focused on reform the country in ways that would

Analysis Of The Battle Of Shiloh
For my battle analysis assignment, I have chosen to examine the battle of Shiloh. This battle
began April 6 7 1862, in the Pittsburg Landing area of Tennessee. In Hebrew Shiloh, means
peace nonetheless, this battlefield was far from a place of peace from April 6 7 1862. This battle
was the bloodiest civil war battle to date and occurred between the Union and Confederate armies.
Having analyzed the battle from multiple sources, I have discovered a number of operational,
tactical, and logistical mistakes that contributed to the Confederate losses suffered. My sources
include documentaries, historical videos, books, and articles from historians and civil war experts
who have spent their lives studying and dissecting the civil war, its battles, commanders, and
tactics. As part of my analysis, I will highlight the Confederate mistakes that could have produced a
different outcome of this historical battle.
In setting the stage for the battle of Shiloh let us first briefly discuss the civil war. The civil war
began with its first battle on 12 April, 1861 at Fort Sumter, South Carolina to the last battle at
Anderson, South Carolina on May 1, 1865 (Civil War Trust , 2014 ) between the Union and
Confederate Armies. The civil war consisted of nearly 50 major battles; the battle of Shiloh was the
first scandalous and essentially paramount battle. (Civil War Battles, 2016) The armies of the north
were fighting to reunite the nation, while the armies of the south were fighting

Preparing Your Family for an Orphanage Visit: Is Your Child Ready? C h e c klis t A d vic e f r o
m T h e r a pis t s a n d E x p e rie n c e d P a r e n t s
By Jean MacLeod
An orphanage visit can be a beneficial event for an adoptee, providing a link to personal history and
a grounded understanding of her life circumstances. It can also be an unpleasant, or even
traumatizing experience, filled with anxiety and shock over what abandonment and
institutionalization really mean.
As Jane Liedtke stressed in P r e p a rin g f o r a H o m ela n d Visit , an orphanage visit should be
planned, based on a child s individual emotional and cognitive readiness. A child who is ready for
enjoying the culture of her birth country may not be ready ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

books for jumping off points for discussion. Ask open ended questions that allow your child to
interpret what she s hearing and seeing, and to express her own thoughts.
Prepare your child for encounters with special needs children. Talk about disabilities that keep a
child in an orphanage, or medical conditions that might require an infant to have an IV, be on
oxygen or recovering from surgery. Some babies might be in incubators.
Orphanage smells or sounds can be powerful triggers to pre verbal memories. Chinese music may
be a positive trigger, while hearing crying babies could cause some children to shut down. De
sensitize by talking about what you may see, hear and smell at the orphanage in advance of your
trip.
Discuss the obvious fact with your daughter that in China she will be surrounded daily by other
Chinese people; for a change she will be in the majority! Your child may enjoy this, or find this
unnerving and fear getting lost in the crowd.
After you, your adoption agency or your adoption travel agency has made an appointment for you
with the Director of your child s orphanage, be sure to follow up by mailing the Director a letter of
introduction (in Chinese) and current photos of your family. If

The Origin and Continuation of the Greeting Card
The Origin and Continuation of the Greeting Card
The perfect words, the right sentiments, the ability to say exactly what we ourselves can t: just a
few ways greeting cards are defined. Greeting cards, the stars of today, started with a humble
beginning. The custom of sending greeting cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese, who
exchanged messages of good will to celebrate the New Year, and to the early Egyptians, who
conveyed their greetings on papyrus scrolls. By the early 1400s, handmade paper greeting cards
were being exchanged in Europe. The Germans are known to have printed New Year s greetings
from woodcuts as early as 1400, and handmade paper Valentines were being exchanged in various
parts of Europe in the early to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First in person, then via post, by 1822, homemade Christmas cards had become the bane of the
U.S. postal system. That year, the Superintendent of Mails in Washington, D.C., complained of the
need to hire sixteen extra mailmen. Fearful of future bottlenecks, he petitioned Congress to limit
the exchange of cards by post, concluding, I don t know what we ll do if it keeps on . (Panati) Of
the original one thousand cards printed for Henry Cole, twelve exist today in private collections.
Printed cards soon became the rage in England; then in Germany. But it required an additional thirty
years for Americans to take to the idea. In 1875, Boston lithographer Louis Prang, a native of
Germany, began publishing cards, and earned the title father of the American Christmas card. Prang
s high quality cards were costly, and they initially featured not images as the Madonna and Child,
a decorated tree, or even Santa Claus, but of colored floral arrangements of roses, daisies,
gardenias, geraniums, and apple blossoms. Americans took to Christmas cards, but unfortunately,
not to Prang s; he was forced out of business in 1890. It was cheap penny

K-8 Grade Configuration
. In 2008, the county decided to consolidate schools to eliminate overcrowding and provide
financial equity. The superintendent of schools was directed to conduct a review and course of
action to provide procedures to be used in changing school boundaries and configurations as
outlined in Board Policy 8391: It is the philosophy of the Prince George s County Public Schools
(PGCPS) to make the most economical and practical use of its physical resources in the
implementation of its educational programs. The schoolsystem will periodically determine, by
systemic study, the status of the current and projected use of all educational facilities and, with

The district also identified some cons: Parents are accustomed to a K 6 model and may resist
change. There would be significant impact on school facilities, finances, and staffing.
On December 11, 2009, the Division of Academics submitted a research report, What Does
Research Tell Us About K 8 Grade Configuration and Student Achievement? to the county s Board
of Education that compared the benefits of the K 8 and the traditional middle school configurations.
This report outlined existing research, the benefits of the K 8 grade configuration, the challenges of
the K 8 configuration, and successful K 8 models.
The research report highlighted the studies of Balfanz et al. (2002), Moore (2008), Offenberg
(2001), and Wes and Kipnes (2006). These studies were conducted in several urban school districts
such as New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New Orleans, and Cincinnati. Based on their
analysis of these studies, they gave the benefits of the K 8 configurations:

Mirrored Worlds
There are many instances throughout literature where two pieces, told by two different narrators,
and telling two different stories can be found to have similar textual qualities. This instance can be
shown between A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson by Mary
Rowlandson herself and Our Nig by Harriet E. Wilson. The stories depict the great suffering of two
individuals who express similar qualities in their writings; the qualities being that each piece is a
captivity narrative, there is a struggle with faith, and a silenced sexual subtext. The first piece by
Rowlandson tells the story of a white Puritan woman. She is captured by Native Americans, and
goes through many hardships as she is held against her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second similarity between the two pieces is seen with their struggles with faith.
Rowlandson starts off in the beginning of her narrative already a Puritan follower. Her plight
through captivity, she says, only strengthened her faith. Many say her narrative to be a religious
allegory, telling the tale of her captivity on the surface, but further looking to the deeper journey
of faith that she endures. The entire narrative shows Rowlandson s religious journey, and even
while looking at the twenty removes that take place, one can see that each of these removes
represent the stages of her spiritual journey. Jordan Stein argues in the Historiography of
Sexuality that Rowlandson, suggests that her experience displays God s truth rather than her
own (483). This other major point seen in her work shows she believes her capture to have been
a test of her faith by God himself. In terms of a strengthened faith that is not exactly what is
found by Frado in Wilson s Our Nig. Frado starts off as having no real religious beliefs. At the
Bellmonts house she soon befriends Aunt Abby and the Bellmonts son, James, who both have
strong religious backgrounds. Throughout the story, both characters hope for a conversion in
Frado and push with her to attend church, religious meetings, and to teach her the Bible. Frado
also has a strong desire for a conversion because she loves these two characters and wants to make
them happy; she however,

A Dual Immersion Program For Hispanic Children From...
This quarter I am continuing my observations with Heather Cyrus from Barbour Dual Language
Immersion Academy. She is a unique second grade teacher for Spanish and English speaking
students. In my prior fieldwork assignments, I have not met another teacher who has been so ahead
of her peers in evolving the classroom for successful, 21st century education.
Barbour runs a dual immersion program for Latino children from kindergarten through eighth
grade. Starting in the lower grades more Spanish instruction is the main concentration with
English incorporated more and more each year. The classrooms are split as evenly as possible
with English speakers and Spanish speakers of all backgrounds and ethnicities. The average class

Her philosophy of learning is ever changing and she believes the learner is the most important
piece of the puzzle... . (H. Cyrus, personal communication, January 20, 2017) She works
continuously with the other second grade teachers in a team to set the plan on the standards and
how they will meet them each year. They do not follow a curriculum, but the Common Core State
Standards (CCSS) with the Essential Learning Outcomes (ELO) and Depth of Knowledge (DOK)
levels. The curriculum Math Investigations is offered in the district for her grade level, but it is not
a main focus for her lessons. She utilizes curriculums provided by the district as resources and
supplements for lessons alone.
When sitting down with her fellow teachers, they do what s called unpacking the standards. Project
based lessons are built in putting as many subjects in to the units as possible. With ESL students,
vocabulary is a large part of their unit design and plays a significant role in Spanish or English in
teaching students to understand the lessons. There are pretests devised based on these objectives
and units for each teacher to determine the needs of their students in their particular classrooms.
Like most teachers, she supports the CCSS but does acknowledge the flaws of their
implementation. In our interview Heather tells me, the CCSS are not developmentally appropriate,
...often times social/emotional standards are less emphasized, ... the amount of CCSS we often are

A Research Report On Saudi Arabia
This study is taking a quantitative approach contain analysis and for that selecting three
representative newspapers and journalists in the Saudi Arabia, which are Al Riyadh, Sabq, Asharq
Al‑Awsat and Twitter accounts of three journalists on Twitter to collect the required data.
Moreover, this method is more suitable because it is creating an observation on the newsposted by
the newspapers that we have selected. Furthermore, it is important to note down that how
journalists are publishing the breaking news or retweet the breaking news from newspapers or
other journalists. From a review of previous research shows that many of the researchers relied on
the content analysis because it gives accurate results through observation and monitoring of the
variables that are used in the research questions. Content analysis will be used instead of a survey,
longitudinal analysis, or a secondary analysis because it is difficult to get accurate results from of
previous research. Additionally, Saudi Arabiais a new area in new media and there is not much of
the previous research in this area about the new media in Saudi Arabia. The questionnaire may be
suitable for this study, but perhaps does not respond to the questionnaire will be the right way,
because most of the people do not consider survey as an important thing and they do not answer it
clearly. So, as I pointed out earlier content analysis is the best for this study.

Stem Cell Research Ethical Issues
For centuries research has been a fundamental part of society. Research allows individuals to gain
further understanding on topics, along with the ability to push the boundaries of humanity and
make new discoveries. Living in the age of the internet makes it extremely easy for one to find
information on just about any topic with the simple click of a mouse. However, not all of the
sources individuals come across online can be relied on for professional scholarly research, nor can
they always be trusted by the reader. When evaluating sources, it is important to keep in mind how
current the sourceis, along with the accuracy of the information being presented. Furthermore, one

Upon entering the site, I immediately recognized from the title that if the work were connected
to what the title implied, then none of the blog post would be based on fact. This is because the
title implies that the work is not based on already proven discoveries, but on discoveries that the
author feels could potentially be made in the future. As I went to locate the name of the author,
I discovered that the blog is written under the pen name Steminve . Before even reading the blog
I instantly discredited this source as one that I would use in my research, simply because I
would not be able to site the work due to its anonymity. The blogger references sources that they
used to write the post, however I found it difficult to further research these sources. For example,
the blogger quotes a Dr. Kadri , however they do not include the full name of the doctor, nor do
they provide the reader with the name of the institution for which the doctor works for. When I
tried to search the name Dr. Kadri , multiple doctors from different areas of the world came up for
my search. This dilemma would force the researcher to guess as to which Dr. Kadri was the one
mentioned by the author. Though the blog was posted in 2014, I could not determine whether or
not the information stated in the blog was accurate

1.Introduction
The demonstration of showing the thoughts of others as your own without referencing known as

contributing factors that make plagiarism a worldwide problem is the simple access to web assets,

efforts of students in order to reflect the learning consequences. On the other hand, the web is
anything but difficult to access to practically boundless composed material on each possible
subject, suspicion of understudy copying has started to influence educators at all levels with the
advent of the internet. The thought of the center estimations of scholarly respectability is the part
of greater image of individual integrity at the heart of the plagiarism debate. A link between their
values and plagiarism from the students has been observed from past articles. However, plagiarism
is an ever increasing issue (Appiah, 2016).

  • 2. Theme Of The Signalman And The Signalman In Gothic Literature, writers are able to choose between traditional and contemporary. This style of writing typically relates back to fiction that gives an atmosphere of uncertainty by featuring horror, death, curses or the supernatural. In The Signalman written by Charles Dickens, we can depict that his writing falls under the category of traditional gothic literature as he chooses to stress the fear of the unknown whether it be the setting or the supernatural. On the contrary, Roald Dahlwho wrote Lamb to the Slaughter chooses to write under the category of contemporary gothic literature, as we are introduced to a familiar setting, and common issues that arise when we face reality. Nevertheless, both stories choose to emphasize the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Dickens, the recurrence of insanity would make sense as his style of writing tends to include the supernatural and the paranormal, however, for Dahl, the recurrence of insanity would come as a shock to many since contemporary gothic literature includes more events that familiar and realistic. Dickens characters insanity can be seen in the quote How your imagination misleads you because once the Signalman saw the individual that appeared to him, his mind began racing with thoughts that seemed to overwhelm him. He couldn t think straight as his mind was focused on figuring out what it was and why it seemed to warn him, and this ultimately led to his demise. By zooming in on the word misleads , it evidently shows us how he was involuntarily submerged with thoughts that drowned him and how failing to control his sanity led to his downfall, and later, his death. Additionally, the quote May have been infection in his mind similarly shows us how the appearance of the individual almost triggered this thought that infected his mind and rid him of thoughts that were unperturbed. He thought that he was seeing things, and not experiencing them, and because of that, he had a strenuous yet continuous fight with his judgment and let it overcome him easily. By zooming into the word infection , we see how inauspicious it is, it wasn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Latin Artist Essay The Latin Artist The Latin experience as a whole encapsulates a world that not many get to experience. Those who do, brag of its liveliness; those who don t, gawk at it. What isn t known is how the latin artist, whose culture places values on work and family much higher than creative expression, survives through such tyranny. Artists such as Gabriel Marquez and Gabriel Mistra use their culture to inspire their writing. Their work, much like the work of other writers and poets, is depressing to say the least. With no support from a community, these artists use metaphors, vivid imagery, and other effective literary devices in order to convey the neglect that they have grown accustomed to. Latin Americaand it s people have had a hard time pursuing freedom. While civilized first world countries... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea that other people will eventually influence her daughter s decisions convinces her that other s will tell her daughter to leave her. This is a very real fear that mothers of Latin American descent are historically known for having. As their daughters grow and mature, the idea of one day achieving full independence is a threat that many feel. The mother in this poem so afraid that her daughter will grow up and not want to be around her anymore that she lets this thought haunt her. I do not want them to turn my child into a swallow (Mistral). The swallow in this poem symbolizes a bird leaving the nest. As the poem progresses, the reader learns more about the small threats that the mother feels. As is apparent by the popular and critical acclaim lavished upon her work about motherhood, Mistral was able to touch upon the very real emotions of the experience even though she did not live the experience herself. By connecting to the thoughts and emotions that the women of Latin America that she grew up around, Mistral created a character that women around the world were able to related ... Outline: Inn this paper I will discuss ATV s and general knowledge and getting them wet. I also will discuss their origin and how they need care and how to keep them doing good for a long time. What is an ATV? It is an All Terrain Vehicle, also called three or four wheelers. It is also called a quad or ATV. An ATV is built to go where other vehicles cannot go. ATV s are also built to handle a lot of stress and abuse. ATV s are virtually indestructible; however, they have a few weaknesses and it is important to know and understand those few weaknesses. The piston then moves outward on the power stroke, uncovering the exhaust port and permitting the gases to escape from the combustion chamber.1 The four stroke model has four strokes instead of two. The strokes are Intake, into which a mixture of gas and air are pulled into the cylinder. Second, Compression, where the piston moves up and the gases are compressed. The Third is power in which the spark plug fires and ignites the compressed gases, And last is exhaust in which the gases that were burned are expels through the exhaust then the procedure repeats itself. The most common type of ATV (Three and Four wheelers) Manufactures are Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Hosquravana, Suzuki and Polaris. There are several other brands but for time s sake I have only listed a few of the most popular ones. ATV s come in a variety of sizes and powers. from a small 80cc to a huge two stroke 600cc! I own a 1989 Yamaha Breeze and have to repair it quite often. There are some simple things to do that are cheap and will save money in the long run. For example adding transmission fluid or crankcase oil could save hundreds at a repair shop. Some times repairs get challenging as your quad (ATV) ages it will need special care such as an oil change, Brake pads, spark ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Post Co Op Reflection At The Massachusetts Clean Energy... Post Co op Reflection A day after I completed my second cooperative at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), I immediately transitioned to a new position at a startup company called EnergySage. On my first day at EnergySage, which is an online solar power marketplace that was created to help consumers learn more about solar and make comparisons between pre screened solar installers and their quotes, I realized how unique my experience was at MassCEC and how thankful I was for it. Aside from the distinctive atmosphere of MassCEC, the quasi public agency treated their co op students as equal contributors to the company s mission and had a particular focus on providing professional development in exchange for our hard work. I discovered I had a passion for pursuing a career in the clean energy industry and I wanted to delve deeper into the various sub sectors to determine where I fit best, which led to the revision of my ninth goal (see Appendix B) to include the goal of better understanding my desired role in the clean energy industry and the necessary steps to achieve these ambitions. In addition, I wanted to enhance my skillset which include interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and complete the internship with a range of new skills. Through my position, I was fortunate enough to have many professional development experiences, which led to networking, outreach and leading and organizing meetings. Perhaps, the biggest lesson of all was how essential building your network will be to achieving your goals. This led to revision of my seventh goal to include networking and outreach as the desired skills I received. These two professional goals are reflective of what I hope to achieve in the future and hence why I took on my current internship. I truly enjoyed this past co op experience and felt that most aspects were enjoyable, rather than difficult. What I enjoyed most was the freedom and the trust that was present between my team and I, as my supervisors often gave me a lot of responsibility and praised me for how I handled it. Upon visiting this gallery, I was able to have the unique advantage of conversing with one of the artists themselves, Janice Kindred. I was able to grasp an understanding of the different medias and techniques used in the paintings and other artworks. In addition, I was able to develop an appreciation of the artists works. The first piece that struck my eye was Vincent, a painting by Janice Kindred herself. Vincent is a painting done in acrylic. It is a colorful and vivid arrangement of a nature scene featuring trees standing upon a cliff that foray one s attention. Upon looking at this painting, the sky fascinated me the most. It was portrayed in bright blues, pinks, and purples. When talking to Kindred, she informed me that in her paintings, she likes to do a layering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, I saw Chuck Frye s Snowy Day in the Cove. Different from the other paintings, this was done with oil. Like Frye s other works, Snowy Day in the Cove, focuses on realism. Frye enjoys capturing the natural harmony found within landscapes. In this painting, one sees I a desolate cabin in a snowy atmosphere. Snow aligns the surrounded forest and the cabin. • 8. The Passionate Shepherd Essay The Passionate Shepherd and The Nymph s Reply are two very intriguing poems with two different viewpoints on Love, Nature, Time, and the Materialistic world. In this comparative essay you will understand how two people love each other unconditionally, but have divergent views on how to love one another. The Shepherd is in lovewith the nymph and he believes that if he gives her everything that she ambitiously desires then she ll come and dwell with him. To me the Shepherd s love is more based around items and materials in general, his love was more materialistic and idealistic that actually putting love into it. Yes, he meant well and all but you have to think no woman is going to stay around long if the only thing that the man does is get her stuff all the time. Now, the Nymph she loves the Shepherd and wants to go live with him, but she wants him to actually think that instead of flowers and skirts she wants love and affection. She wants someone that s going to love her and not hurt her. She wants to feel like what she s getting herself into is going to last, instead of giving her another heartbreak. But the love is there for both of them, they are both just trying to find some way for the other one to understand. The nature (tone) of both poems is having, dissimilar viewpoints also. The Shepherd s tone was more warm and happy thoughts. He was excited and he focused on his future with the Nymph, he had a melodious tone, almost like a lullaby. The Nymph s nature was death related, she was more worried about what if things didn t work out where was that going to leave her and she was more focused on the past, like she felt that the Shepherd was going to be like another man that she has dealt with. She viewed nature in a cold winter like view, she feels like everything will inevitably leave. Their natures were like seasons; the Shepherds nature was like summer and spring where everything is happy and alive, and the nymph s nature was like winter where everything is cold and dead. Their view of time pretty much ties in with the way that they had viewed nature, the Shepherd believed that their love will grow overtime, he thinks that love is a forever thing. Catalonia is the wealthiest, most different region in Spainand can already present itself as a region that is independent with a stable economy. Many police fired rubber bullets and used batons to beat the protesters and voters up. These were not the same protesters as before, these citizens were in support of the split between Catalonia and Spain. Downtown Barcelona has been wild since this idea of splitting came about but there has been talk about positive outcomes in the future for the region of Catalonia and Spain. Since Catalonia has proven itself as an independent region in the past, there are many new aspects. On December 21st, there will be a new regional election because the one before had 90% of voters supported this idea and the police did not understand. Also with the voting day before, many in Madrid believe the voting was fair/ true but the Prime Minister Rajoy believed that it was illegal and not fair because many did not vote due to the physical abuse given by the police. The Effect Of Income Levels On The Investment Choices... 4.3 Results for Objective #2 Whether RRSP is better for high income earners Based on our data collected, we have compiled tables and graphs in order to visually represent our selected data and to test our hypothesis. Since our main objective of this research paper is to determine the effect of income levels on the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA, the sample from investors with both and neither plans were excluded when testing the hypothesis in order to isolate the variables that we wanted to test. Therefore only 79 participants would be considered when examining whether RRSP is better for high income investors. After removing those sample we were left with 79 participants who either chose TFSA or RRSP for their retirement savings. For this test we used a significant level of 5%. With the degree of freedom of 77 and a 5% significance level we arrived at a t value of 1.990 and 1.990. Since our calculated t critical value of 1.019 does not fall into the rejection region of 1.990 and 1.990 we have concluded that we do not reject the null hypothesis, shown as Illustration 4.3.6 as below. Chapter 5 Major Findings and Discussion The purpose of the survey was to determine whether there is a relationship between investors income level and their investment options of RRSP and TFSA. Our literature review suggested that investors with higher income would be more favourable when choosing RRSP rather than TFSA. The null hypothesis was structured assuming there is no relationship between the income level and the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA. Based on the t test we conducted using SPSS, we do not reject the null hypothesis (H0), which suggests that with a significance level of 5% we cannot conclude that the investors that chose RRSP had a higher income than the investors who chose TFSA. Therefore, the test result turned out to be different from what we have concluded from the literature review. As we discussed based on the secondary research, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Effects Of Child Labor On The Chocolate Industry The Effects of Child Labor in the Chocolate Industry: December 6, 2015, was an important day for many Americans, as it marked the 150th year since the abolishment of slavery when the U.S. authorized the 13th Amendment to the Constitution to end what can be described as the darkest chapter of American history. Many in Western Society seem to be unaware of the contemporary slavery still plaguing many developing countries, particularly involving children. The 2010 documentary film called The Dark Side of Chocolate explored the modern day slavery that is occurring within many West African countries, where children are being exploited and trafficked in order to harvest chocolate. In fact, the United States Department of State estimates that approximately 109,000 children in the Ivory Coast s cocoa industry work under the worst forms of child labor (Mustapha, 2010, p.3). By exploring the use of child labor in the chocolate industry in West Africa, this paper will present the argument where I will argue that the unethical use of child labor has led to impoverished families, negative health impacts among children, and has affected economies in West Africa. In order to overcome this situation, there is a need for enforced policies, government action, and corporations taking accountability in order to put an end to child labor. The first part of the paper will discuss how the cocoa industry affects families, the health of child laborers, and the economy, followed by various ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Comparing Death And Rebirth Within some forms of SD, there is the belief that regard Atman and Brahman as one, which is better known as a monistic point of view, (monism). What this simply entails is that, all reality is ultimately one (91, 5). Now, in order for Atman [the undying soul (OUP, 8/14)] to achieve moksha (the final release from the cycle of death and rebirth) and at last reunite itself with Brahmanas a single entity, Atman must first rid itself of its karma. Karma can be compared to that of a checklist when putting it in simpler terms. Because Atman is stuck within samsara [cycle of death and rebirth (91, 3)], it must complete this list of actions [karma, (cn, 9/8)], whether it be during one life or many lives, until the undying soul has achieved moksha,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many African religions consider the High God [supreme deity (64, 2)] to be transcendent and removed from the lives of humans (64, 3) and that their daily lives are influenced or controlled by gods or other supernatural beings (64, 2). Whereas, in SD, the supreme deity in this case would be Brahman (which the soul cannot reunite with until it has achieved moksha) and that the daily, as well as future, lives of Hindus is determined by one s karma (cn, 9/14). I found these commonalities to be quite similar, yet at the same time vastly different because, within African religions, the High God could differ among separate groups of people [such as with the Dogon, who view Amma as their High God (64, 3) and the Samburu people of Kenya who believe in Nkai (64, 4)]. In SD, the ultimate entity is undoubtedly Brahman, for it is when Atman achieves moksha that it finally realizes its true self and is freed from the Saha world (cn, 9/12). If there was one idea that can be derived from this information about human existence, it would be the certainty that all those people hold the belief of a supernatural being that resides within a separate realm of ... • 15. The Impact Of Fair Value On Financial Reporting Essay The most controversial topic of today s time in the world of accounting is fair value. However, one common point of confusion is the scale of businesses affected by fair value, and when fair value came onto the scene. According to Robert Herz and Linda MacDonald ...the use of fair value in financial reporting is not new. In fact, it has been in place for decades, principally for financial assets. But even then, fair valueis not required for all assets. (2008) The idea of using fair value measurements goes back at least to the 1930 s when Kenneth MacNeal wrote Truth in Accounting. It wasn t until 1993, however, until the FASB released SFAS 115. SFAS 115 addresses the accounting and reporting for investments in equity securities that have readily determinable fair values and for all investments in debt securities. (FASB 1993) In 2006 the FASB released SFAS 157, which established a framework for measuring fair value. SFAS 157 also requires significantly more disclosures about fair value estimates than ever before. (FASB 2006) Finally the FASB issues SFAS 159, which permits entities to choose to measure many financial instruments and certain other items at fair value. (FASB 2007) These statements set the stage for the discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of fair value. Also discussed, will be the problems with implementation of a full fair value measurement system. That discussion will be followed by a brief summary. II.Methodology The foundation of this paper ... The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake Of 1906 The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake Geologic Aspect On April 18, 1906 at 5:12 a.m. an earthquake of an estimated moment magnitude of 7.8 hit Northern California. High intensity shaking was felt stretching from Salinas Valley to Eureka on the North Coast. The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 was one of the worst and most fatal earthquakes in both California s and the United States history. California, and thus San Francisco, lies on the San Andres fault. The earthquake was caused when this fault suddenly shifted, with the rupture spreading for a total of 476 kilometres in northward and southward direction. This fault is a continental transform fault, which forms part of the tectonic boundary between the North American Plate and the Pacific Plate. (1906 Earthquake: How long was the 1906 Crack? USGS Earthquake Hazards Program Northern California, Accessed September 3, 2006). 1 The distance of the fault is of about 1300 kilometres, which runs the length of California from Cape Mendocino in the north to the Salton Sea in the south. Geologists have estimated that the fault moved as quickly as 2.74 kilometres per second. The San Andreas Fault, the source of this disaster, lies ten miles or deeper, at the meeting point of two tectonic plates, the Pacific and the North American. The right lateral strike slip fault is characterized by mainly lateral motion in a dextral sense, where the western plate (Pacific plate) moves northward relative to the eastern plate (North American ... Most importantly, Postmodernism rejects the Modernist idea of high art as normative and dominant. Instead, it merges the concept of low and high art, effectively canceling them both. Where Modernism saw a work of art as a finished product, signed by the artist and authenticated by the art market, Postmodernism sees art as a recycling of culture, authenticated by whatever audience that may be. Where Modern art is a separate dichotomy of contrasting themes (organic/nonorganic, realist /abstract), Postmodern art mixes all available ideas into a sensational pastiche. Finally Modernism clearly divided normity versus sexual difference and pornography. Postmodernism embraces whatever ideas have an audience, and mixes polymorphous sexuality and pornography with mainstream media. Postmodernist art and media reject the linear way of working, building upon a specific discourse and ideology. • 18. Monteverdi In contemporary music, composers will use bridges to change the tone of a song. When the song needs to change, they will include a small section that stands out from the rest of the piece so it can bring a smooth transition to the rest of the song. Similarly, Claudio Monteverdi became that bridge between the Renaissance and the coming BaroquePeriod. The world was so focused on humanism and darkness throughout the Renaissance, but Monteverdi was born on the edge of darkness, and helped show the path into light. Claudio Monteverdi exemplified the shift in worldview from the Renaissance to the Baroque Period through his music. Carlo Gesualdo, a Renaissance composer, used five part harmony and very little accompaniment in his piece Moro Lasso (Sivylla). This emphasized the vocalists by using complexity to add weight to their sound, and the light accompaniment draws it out even further, since there are no instruments to take away from the voices. This somewhat reflects the Renaissance worldview, by putting the emphasis on humans. Years later, when Monteverdi began composing, he used light accompaniment like Gesualdo, often just using a light piano. However, he uses a solitary female voice in both Lasciatemi Morire! and Lamento del la Ninfa (Rules; Pianorules). This lessens the overall weight of the piece, while still putting the emphasis on the vocalist, which then eases listeners into later music, such as Alessandro Scarlatti. Scarlatti used heavier accompaniment in Sento Nel Core to create a fuller sound with a lighter, airier tone to emphasize a single female voice (Kanal). The strings accompanying her accentuate her voice, but they create a melody of their own, drawing some attention to themselves instead of just the woman s voice. The flaw of one man cannot bring down an entire kingdom, but rather one outlook of the king can lead to the demise of the whole. In Sophocles epic tragedy, Antigone, a strong gender bias is present throughout the tragedy, and is partially responsible for the downfall of the king. To Sophocles the king is not always representative of the people, but acts on his own personal desires and judgments. Sophocles was born in 496 B.C. and from 490 B.C. until 442 B.C. when the first performance of Antigone at the Dionysian theater; there had been many wars in the Greek and Persian history. Before Antigone begins, the two brothers of Antigone are engaged in a battle no only of land, but of power. Their deep desires to rule Thebes and male dominating ego, only lead to their deaths; a tragedy that would affect more than just themselves. The battle of glory for men would not be the same for their sisters, but in 442 B.C. as Sophocles illustrates, the living women would have to deal with the tragedies of the dead; a task not easy to be burdened with as woman. Their uncle, Creon, dominates Antigone and her sister Ismene to the extent of mourning their own brother s death. Antigone has chosen a fate without glory: I ll suffer nothing as great as death without glory, (Antigone line 112). Only a male in this time could die with honor and glory, and just as her uncle has forced a death without glory for her brother, although a glorious death is honorable, she has decided it a better life to die without glory than dishonor her blood and the gods. • 34. Factors That Led To The Collapse Of The Mayan Civilization The Maya civilization was one of the most successful civilizations of its time. The Mayans were one of the most dominant civilizations in Mesoamerica, located in tropic lowlands in what is now known as Guatemala. The Mayans were very religious, as they worshipped gods that were related to nature, such as a rain god and a sun god. They were an agricultural society that mostly relied on trade in order to get their resources. Mayans were often seen as advanced compared to other European civilizations with their arts, writing, agricultural techniques, and their architecture. Even though the Maya civilizationwas very successful, it eventually collapsed. Historians often debate about how such an advanced civilization could have collapsed. Although there were many factors that contributed to the collapse of the Mayan, the three that contributed the most were the collapsing social structure, a decrease in resources, and as well as drought. One factor that contributed to the Maya Collapse was the fact that their once strong social class was beginning to fall. The Maya social class was made up of nobles, farmers and slaves. Over time, this system started to become unorganized. In his article, Maya Collapse: Recent Insight on the Classic Maya Collapse, Joel Palka describes that Mayan cities either fell or thrived due to the way their politics and religion were handled. The cities that thrived either negotiated their power or had it distributed equally through calendar cycles. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Behavioral Psychology And Neuropsychology And The... Philosophy of Psychology Jessica Germany Freed Hardeman University Philosophy of Psychology Introduction As an occupational therapist, I hope to use a number of different psychological theories. The main perspective I will use is Behavior Psychology. Most of my therapy techniques will come from Skinner s theory of operant condition. By using Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), I can help modify children s behavior. The second perspective I will use is Neuropsychology. In treating autistic children, and other people with various disorders, it is important to understand the different brain chemistry that each has. In most circumstances, a part of the brain is affected that inhibits an aspect of the child s behavior. History Both behavioral psychology and neuropsychology have rich backgrounds. For the purposes of my philosophy of psychology, I will cover operant condition and Skinner s approach to verbal behavior. I will also look aspects of neuropsychology such as neuroplasticity and the dimensional systems model. I will also look at Sensory Integration theory, which combines a number of different perspectives including behavioral and neuropsychology. Behavioral Therapy The father of Behavioral Psychology is Watson. Another iconic psychologist in this aspect is B. F. Skinner. Skinner s major theory is operant conditioning. Operant behavior is defined as behavior controlled by its consequences (Staddon Cerutti, 2003). Operant behavior also uses reinforcement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many progressives desired a limitation on the power of big businesses, an improvement on the democracy of the people, and an increase in social equality among the people. • 38. Analysis Of The Battle Of Shiloh For my battle analysis assignment, I have chosen to examine the battle of Shiloh. This battle began April 6 7 1862, in the Pittsburg Landing area of Tennessee. In Hebrew Shiloh, means peace nonetheless, this battlefield was far from a place of peace from April 6 7 1862. This battle was the bloodiest civil war battle to date and occurred between the Union and Confederate armies. Having analyzed the battle from multiple sources, I have discovered a number of operational, tactical, and logistical mistakes that contributed to the Confederate losses suffered. My sources include documentaries, historical videos, books, and articles from historians and civil war experts who have spent their lives studying and dissecting the civil war, its battles, commanders, and tactics. As part of my analysis, I will highlight the Confederate mistakes that could have produced a different outcome of this historical battle. In setting the stage for the battle of Shiloh let us first briefly discuss the civil war. The civil war began with its first battle on 12 April, 1861 at Fort Sumter, South Carolina to the last battle at Anderson, South Carolina on May 1, 1865 (Civil War Trust , 2014 ) between the Union and Confederate Armies. The civil war consisted of nearly 50 major battles; the battle of Shiloh was the first scandalous and essentially paramount battle. This instance can be shown between A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson by Mary Rowlandson herself and Our Nig by Harriet E. Wilson. The stories depict the great suffering of two individuals who express similar qualities in their writings; the qualities being that each piece is a captivity narrative, there is a struggle with faith, and a silenced sexual subtext. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second similarity between the two pieces is seen with their struggles with faith. Rowlandson starts off in the beginning of her narrative already a Puritan follower. Her plight through captivity, she says, only strengthened her faith. Many say her narrative to be a religious allegory, telling the tale of her captivity on the surface, but further looking to the deeper journey of faith that she endures. The entire narrative shows Rowlandson s religious journey, and even while looking at the twenty removes that take place, one can see that each of these removes represent the stages of her spiritual journey. Jordan Stein argues in the Historiography of Sexuality that Rowlandson, suggests that her experience displays God s truth rather than her own (483). This other major point seen in her work shows she believes her capture to have been a test of her faith by God himself. In terms of a strengthened faith that is not exactly what is found by Frado in Wilson s Our Nig. Frado starts off as having no real religious beliefs. At the Bellmonts house she soon befriends Aunt Abby and the Bellmonts son, James, who both have strong religious backgrounds.
