Essay on Olaudah Equiano
The Horrid Journey If it were not for the stories past down from generation to generation or the
documentations in historical books, the history of the twelve million African slaves that traveled
the Middle Passage in miserable conditions would not exist. Olaudah Equiano contributes to this
horrid history with The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. Through this
narrative, the appalling personal experience of each slave is depicted. He accomplishes his
rhetorical purpose of informing the world of the slave experience in this narrative. His use of
unique style and rhetorical devices in this conveying narrative portray his imperative rhetorical
purpose. Throughout Equiano s works, a unique style is evident. This... Show more content on

In this, however, it depicts the complex journey of the African slaves that struggled to become
equal. In addition, Equiano s use of imagery clearly depicts the journey of the Africans slaves,
such as The closeness of the place, and the heat of the climate, added to the number in the ship,
which was so crowded that each had scarcely room to turn himself, almost suffocated us (45).
Through the portrayal of this vivid imagery, the reader can feel the distress of the slaves in
which they encountered the journey of the Middle Passage. He emphasizes his emotions, ideals,
and thoughts through the imagery. With the uses of this vivid imagery along with high diction
and intricate sentences, Equiano successfully attempts to inform the reader of the horrid journey
of slave transportation. However, it is not only his unique style alone that fulfils his rhetorical
purpose of depicting the appalling slave experience; in addition, his several rhetorical devices
aid to do so. Equiano s rhetorical devices which include ethos, pathos, and logos abet to define
and accomplish his rhetorical purpose. His ethos, or ethical assurance, is conveyed in his level of
education portrayed by his sentence structure and high diction. Furthermore, as proven in historical
documents, Equiano was a slave aboard one of the many slave ships. With this, the reader can
accredit Equiano s narrative to be a reliable and first hand source to the journey of the Middle
Passage.

Femininity Vs. Masculinity, By Bram Stoker s Dracula
Femininity Vs. Masculinity
Vincent D Onofrio said To me the definition of true masculinity and femininity, too is being able to

women were just getting into the age of the workforce while many women were getting

The Importance Of Fighting During The Civil War
During the second battle, Henry ran. He didn t run just to run, he ran in fear. Henry saw soldiers
running through smoke in the field so he also decided to run. Just think, if you were sitting there
watching soldiers run, wouldn t you follow them? If Henry decided not to flee, he could ve been
there all alone and open to danger. The enemies could ve easily been right there with him. The
reason why Henry reacts this way is because of fear. The enemies had just finished fighting and
Henry thought he d have a break. It ended up that they started fighting right after the first battle.
When Henry saw the soldiers running through the smoke, he panicked and decided to run along
with them. Don t you think you would follow your soldiers to be safe?

Sleepy Hollow
Folk Tale Characteristics in the Legend of Sleepy Hollow
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is one of the most well known stories in American literature, and with
good reason. Throughout his story, Washington Irving uses many stylistic ideas to create a
fantastically detailed and descriptive romantic folk tale.
Irving begins The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with a vivid description of the setting of his story.
Beginning with the Dutch history of the area, he goes on to describe the town as one of the
quietest places in the whole world , with a tranquil brook running through it and the sweet sounds
of chirping birds all around (1). Irving delves into the town s history, citing Indian legends which

The sky is depicted as being clear and serene , and the surrounding trees wore that rich golden
livery which we always associate with the idea of abundance (9). Another half of a paragraph is
devoted to describing the sober and brilliant colors of the grees, the wild ducks flying above, the
chattering noises of the squirrel, and the cry of the quail. The following paragraph is entirely
dedicated to noticing all the local breeds of birds, such as the cockrobin, blackbirds, golden
winged woodpecker, cedar bird, and blue jay. The fruits and vegetables are given special notice as
well, and is described as vast, rich, ample, and holding out the promise of cakes and hasty pudding
(10). This description of nature is a major traditional characteristic of the romantic genre, because it
contributes to the fascination with nature, describing it not only as being beautiful, but also as an
abundant resource.
Hearsay is another prominant characteristic of a romantic folk tale. Folk tales are traditionally
passed down orally, and are often subject to exaggerations or outright lies in order to enhance their
entertainment appeal. This stylistic trait is found in many details throughout Irving s story. Right
from the begining of his tale, the narrator lets his audience know that there are many theories
regarding the curse of the Sleepy Hollow land, and no

Amontillado Montresor Revenge
In the small hours of a cold December night, in 1916, Rasputin was driven to the palace of the
Czar s cousin Prince Yusupov; for what he thought was a secret tryst with a beautiful woman.
Together, the Prince and Rasputin descended the steps to the basement of the palace. It had been
specially converted into a small dining room, a private place to attempt to murder. While the
Prince s co conspirators waited upstairs, Yusupov passed a plate of rich sweet cream cakes to
Rasputin. Each cake held enough cyanide to kill a man. To guarantee success, the wine was also
laced with cyanide. The plan seemed foolproof. Though Rasputin ate the cream cakes and became
rather drunk from the wine, the poison seems to have no effect. Stunned, the conspirators... Show

A piece of dramatic irony that we are given is that we know Fortunato is going to be killed,
unfortunately Fortunato does not know this. Fortunato s name is even ironic. Fortunato means
the fortunate one in Italian. (Campbell) In the story it is clear he wasn t so fortunate. Fortunato
adds to the irony of his name by wearing the costume of a court jester. While Fortunato plays in
jest, Montresor sets out to fool him, with murderous results. The bells on Fortunato s jester
costume plays with the irony of the story. Roger Platizky writes, To a significant degree, Poe s
fear of live burial had a cultural counterpart. Kennedy and others have shown that premature
burial was a preoccupation in eighteenth and nineteenth century America and Europe largely
because death was more often in the hands of the medical community and funerals had become
secularized.(n2) In an attempt to keep living entombments from occurring, coffins and vaults
especially for the wealthier classes were equipped with special springs and sounding devices to
give the person mistakenly buried alive a chance to be rescued (Crichton 326 28). One of the
most pragmatic of these devices, which involved the placing of bells on the limbs of the recently
dead, was exhibited at Brooklyn s Greenwood Cemetery in 1845, just a year before Poe published
his short story. Mr. Eisenbrandt s life preserving coffin boasted a death defying

Persuasive Speech On Whale Captivity
How would you feel if you were a killer whale performing in front of thousands of people? For
many years people have argued if killer whales should be kept in captivity or not. Blackfish, a
documentary on Seaworld and killer whales, had argued with Seaworld against whale captivity.
Killer whale captivity must be banned because whales can get ill or injured, they can be dangerous
to humans, and they can get separated from their families. Killer whalescaptivity is a major issue
because they could become sick or injured there. According to Blackfish, orca whales in captivity
tend to become hyper aggressive towards new whales. This results in whaleon whale incidents
where the whales can get severely injured, or can even die. Some examples of these incidents, as
The Dodo has said, are a male whale named Nakai had his chin torn off in a fight. Additionally, a
female whale named Kandu broke her own jaw and cut her artery in a fight, eventually bleeding
to death. Her calf was circling around her during the event. In addition, the Huffington Post
states, animals may suffer from captivity related stresses that lower their resistance and make
them more susceptible to disease, making lifespans in captivity significantly lower than in the
wild. To add on, The Dodo states, One big issue was the terrible state of the orcas teeth. Captive
orcas are already at risk for dental trauma bored and stressed, they often begin gnawing on the
edges of their tanks. They also state that these occurrences in the wild are very rare. Also, whales
like Tilikum got a lung infection due to bacterial pneumonia, which is the most common reason
why captive whales and dolphins die (according to Wikipedia). Tilikum had also died due to the
disease. This indicates that whale captivity leads to many incidents and diseases that the whales
would not have faced in the wild. All these problems are caused due to them being captive. Orca
captivity is also dangerous for human beings. For example, Tilikum was the cause of the death of
3 people as shown in Blackfish. First, he and 2 other whales drowned Keltie Byrne, who had
slipped into the pool. She was screaming and tried to escape, but the whales pulled her back and
drowned her. Then, a

Stereotyping Stereotypes
When we use stereotypes, we are criticizing someone, for example, when we say all police
officers are corrupt, all men who aren t into sports are gay or all blonde women are dumb.
Stereotyping is a result of incompetence on distorted information accepted as a fact without
question. A stereotype is simply a widely held belief that an individual is a member of a certain
group based upon characteristics. Stereotyping can be positive, for example, all Blacks are good
at sports, all Asians are good at math or French people are romantic. Stereotypes can also help
identify how to interact with each other, for example Canadians are exceptionally polite. Either
way stereotyping is morally wrong and judgmental. If your group is positively stereotyped in an
area, then you can endure a lot more frustration and difficultly before you assume or infer that you
don t belong in that domain (Steele, 2010). This paper will focus on the origin of stereotyping, how
stereotypes affect judgement and behavior and will explore profiling versus stereotyping.
Stereotyping is defined as an oversimplified, usually pejorative, attitude people hold toward those
outside one s own experience who are different. They are a result of incomplete or distorted
information accepted as fact without question. A stereotypeis simply a widely held belief that an
individual is a member of a certain group based on characteristics. Due to the process of
overgeneralization within social perception, stereotyping leads to a great deal of inaccuracy in
social perception (Chandler, n.d.). ##My stance is## Stereotyping is always morally wrong and
judgmental. How you reach your opinion of others makes it morally wrong, when you encounter
someone for the first time you should not have a prejudged notion of that person, first impressions
should always start from zero. The most ethical place to begin is to acknowledge that you have
biases and stereotypes and once your interaction starts then place them accordingly. Stereotyping is
a mental shortcut and this isn t always negative although we should be aware that we all harmlessly
do it and must always be conscious of it.
As humans, we want to associate quickly for instance, tiger, danger, don t

Domestic Violence Against Women Act Of 1994
Domestic Violence
Health Policy
Yuliet Pozo Martinez
South University
Abstract
Despite the fact the physical effects of domestic violence could be the similar as for other forms of
violent crime, the emotional effects can be much worse. Domestic violence happens when a crime
is committed against a victim by someone with whom the victim is or has previously found, in a
close relationship or somebody living in the same household as the victim. Domestic violence
regulations differ from state to state. These variances range from conceptualization to the
requirements under required reporting laws. Because of all these differences, the entire process of
avoidance a domestic violence situation rest on each state. The Violence... Show more content on

Legislation Types The Congress of the United States in 1994, as part of the Crime Bill, passed
law allowing the federal government to take part in the battle against domestic violence. This new
law, named The violence against Woman Act (VAWA), To fight this violent crime problem,
VAWA made federal domestic violence crimes to be act against by the Department of Justice.
Reliable with this federal inventiveness, the Crime Bill also modified the Gun Control Act to
embrace domestic violence related crimes. Congress reiterated its commitment to fight domestic
violence crimes by the performing in the fall of 1996 of extra federal domestic violence crimes in
both VAWA and the Gun Control Act. The federal government has largely lacked authority over
several domestic violence crimes. However domestic violence remains primarily a matter of state
and local jurisdiction (Lindhorst, Casey, Meyers, 2010).
Federal Legislation The Violence against WomenAct (VAWA) delineated funding programs to
avoid violence against women and set a national domestic violence hotline. Also, new protections
were given to victims of domestic abuse, such as confidentiality of new address and modifications
to migration regulations that permit an abused partner to apply for permanent residency. This act
also discourses federal tools to accuse domestic violence offenders in certain situations including
firearms or interstate travel or activity. The federal domestic violence statutes offer

the attitude and the qualities needed to enjoy life. No problem is substantial enough to interfere
with the balance of the mindset. Do not be afraid of the unknown, for God is continuously

and its capability to easily slip away. Dean guarantees Sal beyond doubt that everything will be

Economic Policies And Economic Policy
In every country there s a government and economy. Each counties government helps or tries to
help recover, stabilize, and grow the economy. First thing we need to look at is economic policy.
Economic policy refer to actions the government makes in the economic field. For example the
taxation, the government supply, money supply, interest rates, along with the labor market, and
national ownership. Inside the economic policy you will find all sorts of things that help make the
policy stand on it s two feet. The three main parts that tie into economic policy are supply side
economics, demand side economics, and monetary policy. Each of the three economic structures
will also help define and show what all the economic policy is and... Show more content on

Now as we can see supply side has a demand for small government and less of a tax policy. Both
of which as seen in the political views of things. So to add on to what supply side economics is
you also need to remember that politics has role. Supply side economics has a little bit of a
background when you look into it. Based upon the three pillars and what each one deals with you
can see that you can not take away the political side of it because it would then demand a smaller
role for the government and a less tax policy.
So the next branch of the economic policy would be demand side. Demand side economics relates
to an economic theory that defends the use of government spending and growth in the money
supply to prompt the demand for goods and services, thus leading to the expand of economic
activity. With demand side economics there is a theory that some believe will work. Demand side
economist support government spending to the fullest. They do so because they think it will
overcome the short term low aggregates demand. Raising the market s aggregate demand will
reduce unemployment and encourage economic activity, according to this theory. By spending the
government increases demand on

Motivation, Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation
Motivation is a very important factor no matter what sport you coach or what the team or athlete
goals are. A true coach must be able to understand their athlete and be able to tap into their
motivation, maximizing their performance. Chapter four was written about two particular types of
motivation, intrinsic and extrinsic. No matter what theory you believe, all theories boil down to
these two types of motivation. Knowing the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation,
can help you hone in on athletes, their goals, and help them maximize their performance.
Succeeding in sports, really boils down to three main characteristics, helping athletes set goals
and work towards them, conducting reviews of athlete s performance with the athlete, and
conduct team sessions. When it comes towards motivation, the easiest way to get an athlete
working towards a goal is to sit down and conduct a goal setting session with them. Every person
has goals they want to attain, but may not know how to deploy a plan of action towards
achieving those goals. There are many ways to conduct goal setting, some ways are easier than
others. One I like to use is a seven step process. The athlete writes down their goal, being very
specific, define where you are right now, identify key areas to improve on in order to achieve the
goal, identify actions to take and attitudes to help keep moving towards the goal, identify a short
term goal to begin momentum, create an image of the goal that an

Hospice is a concept of care that is based on the belief that meaningful living is achievable during

nurse is to take on a holistic approach to patient care that involves a careful evaluation of not only
physical problems but also the psychosocial and spiritual dimensions of the patient and the patient s

The Rise Of Feudalism
Feudalism a social system of duties and rights on land tenure and personal relationships in fief
lands by vassals that came from lords to which they owe very specific services, and to which they
are bounded by personal loyalty. Feudalism started in the definite form in the lands of Frankish in
the century of the 9th and the 10th. In a long disagreement with scholars whether the institutional
basis was with Germanic or Roman. It could be said that feudalismstarted from the disintegration of
the Roman institutions and the disruption of Germanic settlement and inroads. Feudalism rose in
areas that were formerly dominated by Roman institutions that meant the breakdown for the central
government. The regions that were not dominated by the Roman... Show more content on

In England feudalism was at its strongest when it was first introduced. The defeat of Harold at the
Battle of Hastings gave feudalism a really strong start in the country since none of the people of
England agreed to a feudal government system the system was strong because it was basically
forced upon them. Another point where feudalism was strong in the country was with its army.
Since the country had been divided into several plots, each plot had its own army therefore when all
armies united to fight as one county the army was big. Another strong point was that England was
that the barons did not get in the way of the life routine of the peasants as much as other countries
did. In and around their close locations they functioned efficiently. Another strong point that

The nobles needed to recruit archers and soldiers from their lands. They couldn t be completely

country could not count on support and revenue in times of crisis. Eventually this cost the

A Summary OfLetters From The Corrugated Castle
In Letters from the Corrugated Castle, a 13 year old girl named Eldora writes a series a letters
describing everything that is going on in her life. She had believed for years that her mother had
passed away when she was quite young. Eldora lived with a very nice couple who had been very
kind and taken Eldora in as their own. Eldora called them Aunt and Uncle. At the beginning of the
story, Aunt, Uncle, and Eldora all packed up their belongings from their home in New Bedford,
Massachusetts and left for a new life in the chaotic city of San Francisco, California.
One day, Eldora received a letter from her mother explaining a lot of unanswered questions.
Eldora was thrilled to know that her mother was not dead, and was alive and quite well. Eldora s
mother said that she would soon come by to pay Eldora a visit and to tell her why she had been
unable to care for her the past few years. However every time she was due to visit, she would
have something come up and not be able to visit. Until after about the 3rd reschedule, when she
was finally able to come into the city for a visit. Eldora was scintillating with happiness and very
eager to see her mother for the first time in what felt like forever. When she saw her mother and
she immediately began to look for every similarity, such as eyes, voice, hair, even the way that she
walked.
Aunt seemed to have quite a few questions about why and how everything had happened. So
mother then told a story of how she

he wanted to know what the mysterious force was; (22). By this little spiel from the Old King
Santiago takes a turn in his life. He suddenly is curious about this hidden treasure and is
determined to find out more. If Santiago never met the King of Salem then he never would ve

Penny Synthesis
United states produces 13 billion pennies each year. The Penny coin in America played a role to
our economy/without people noticing too much. People most likely don t recognize it due to
inflation of prices. To public eyes the penny has always been heated debate topic. Which leads into
my paper here. Should the pennybe eliminated or kept? The penny should not be eliminated from
our coins system because the prices would be rounded(making prices mostly going up), the penny
has need to stay for economy. And the public (average american citizen) view matters and need to
be heard. Even the penny kept costing United States to make then it is worth, but the benefits of the

Producing the penny is job for many americans in the US hired by the government. If you use
their time better by tracking counterfeiters, all it does is need for more jobs. Which is good for
the US, if we have more people working and collecting weekly paycheck, then US won t have to
worry about Welfare growing(saving moneyfor the US). Plus with people earning more money
from jobs, they will spend more and the government makes more money. This is best case
scenario for everyone because people get jobs and money while government spends less on
welfare and more tax money! Our economy could get out of this debt America is facing because
if we can t deal with it now, then its major problem in the future happening. This helps our present
and future get better! Now another reason is citizen want to keep the penny. Favor Abolishing
The Penny?, (Source E). Yes, but if you dig deeper into the data, it states that the lower earning
class wanted to save the money more because they knew what the penny impact on price. Don t
let that confuse you because every earning class asked, stated penny should be kept. 23% of the
people wanted to get rid of it while 59% wanted to keep and 18% not decided.

A Short Note On Thyroid And Parathyroid Glands
1
Stacey RaposaOctober 11,2014
Module IV Assignment
Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands
Thyroid
The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland with two lobes, one on each side of the trachea, below the
level of the larynx. These lobes are connected by a narrow piece of tissue called the isthmus
(Johnstone, Farley, Hendry, McLafferty, 2014). The thyroidconsists of follicles, which contain
follicular cells that synthesize and secrete the thyroid hormones. These hormones are tetra
iodothyronine or thyroxine (T4), tri iodothyronine (T3) and calcitonin. The main function of the
thyroid gland is to control the body s metabolic rate; however in children it also controls growth
and development (Warren, 2014). The thyroid gland is controlled by thyroid stimulating hormone
(TSH), which is secreted by the pituitary gland (Warren, 2014). These hormones are produced by
an endocrine feedback loop that allows the body to control their release according to need (Hall,
2010). The hypothalamus, which synthesizes and secretes Thyrotrophin releasing hormone (TRH),
initiates this loop (Hall, 2010). These hormones can be measured in the blood and are important in
diagnosing and managing thyroid disease. Thyroid disease is seen in three forms: under activity
(hypothyroidism), over activity (hyperthyroidism) and swelling of the thyroid. Thyroid disease is
one of the most common disorders of the endocrine system and is more common in women than
men.

Raisin In The Sun Critical Analysis
Imagine, for a moment, that someone has just received an enormous check. However, this positive
and seemingly heaven sent bestowal is laced with dismay and mayhem, for there are numerous
outcomes this check could produce not all of which are accomplishable. Meanwhile, said person s
family is being torn asunder by all of these possible outcomes since each is persistently continuing
to pester and demand the personwho received the check to use it in the way that each of the family
members personally believe. It is always a burdensome choice, whether to consider an individual,
the majority, or the minorities, yet this is the dilemma thrust upon one woman in Raisin in the Sun

Accentuating the lack of passion and common courtesy Walter has for his wife, Ruth, in this
particular scene, Hansberry is, in the beginning, ingraining in her readers minds how detestably this
man treats his wife.
However, this absolute disregard for his wife is completely transformed after Mama, the woman
who is burdened with the dilemma, decides to satisfy the needs of the majority and purchases a
house which will be advantageous for everyone, whether they were pleased with the decision or
not. His whole being appears to convert into its polar opposite, as shown through the stage
direction, He dances over to Ruth and tries to get her to dance with him. She gives in at last to his
raunchiness and in a fit of giggles allows herself to be drawn into his mood (112). The author
illustrates how his actions and mentality, thus their relationship, evolved over a short period
resulting from the purchase of the house, which was originally intended to appease the majority,
since not everyone initially approved of this use of the money. Therefore, this altering of mindset
and relationship conveys that, by selecting the choice best suited for the majority, one may
unknowingly be selecting an option that becomes best suited for everyone and that is eventually
unanimously agreed upon.
In addition to this, it it always best to comply with the needs of the majority since the majority may
also include what is

Richard II Dbq Analysis
Late 14th century English king Richard II lost all of his power towards the end of his reign as a
result of his exploded sense of self importance and godly association, which led to fatal
opposition from multiple prominent aristocrats and eventually England as a whole. This gradual
growth of opposition can be seen in the persecution of Richard s most favored advisors; the
aftermath of fear and apprehension that followed Richard s execution of the Lord s appellant in
1397; and his swift and universally encouraged abdication by Henry Bolingbroke, future Henry IV.
The civil turmoil, famine, and plague that marked 14th century England was left behind by

encouragement from Parliament and the commonwealth, Henry of Bolingbroke held Richard
captive until he unwillingly agreed to abdicate his crown. Richard spent the rest of his days in
Pontefract castle and died from starvation. Adam of Usk summarizes the lasting deprecating
reputation of King Richard II: Wherefore of this king Richard, as of Arthgallo, once king of

One Crime Policy Essay
The one crime policy that is important for the criminal justice system today is substance abuse in
America. This problem has plagued the criminal justice system in America for a long period and it
has continued to be a thorn in the side of all parts of the criminal justice system. To fix this their
need is a need for substance abuse treatment, which helps in the transition from the criminal justice
system. The main reason this policy is important for the criminal justice system is to stop the
problem from the source with regard to families and drugpatterns that go from generation to
generation.
First, the strict policy on substance abuse dates back to the formal declaration of the war on drugs
by the president of the united states Richard Nixon. In 1971 Nixon s formal declaration of war on
drugs deliberately linked urban crime control to the suburban marijuana subculture by portraying
narcotics pushers and heroin addiction as universal threats (Lassiter, M. D). Nixon and his

and it has recently spiked in northwest Indiana. Furthermore, substance abuse is not just a problem

Reflection Paper On Substance Abuse
On October 3rd, I attended a meeting that completely opened my eyes on the issue of substance
abuse. The meeting I attended was an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. When thinking about what
sort of recovery event I wanted to experience for this experimental activity the first thing that came
to mind was Alcoholics Anonymous. I have heard of AA but never had an expanded understanding
of the program. The first thingI did was google Alcoholics Anonymous University of Iowa and the
rest was a breeze. The first link that appeared was a University of Iowa Hospitals Clinics page that
listed open AA meetings. So as stated earlier, on Tuesday, October 3rd from 12 pm to 1 pm in
Room 5024 Boyd Tower, I gained a whole new outlook on substance abuse. As soon as I walked
into the meeting I was a slightly intimidated at first. The room was small, about the size of a
classroom, and had a conference table full of people of all ages and different genders. Since I
was just observing I decided to sit at a separate table and take notes on the activities that went on
during the meeting. There were about 10 participants taking part in the meeting from ages that
ranged from 30 s to 70 s. There was plenty of diversity in the group of individuals based on
personalities also, but not much diversity in ethnicities as all of the members of this meeting were
white. Once the meeting went underway, I knew I was in for something very interesting. The
meeting began with a moment of silence and preamble.

the party s intent to perform. Once retraction is made, the rights of the repudiating party under the

When hiring quickly it will limit the area, a person can go into by only having a need positions.
This can create the fact of someone being over qualified for a position but having to put them in
that position due to not enough positions available that the individual is qualified for. It would
be best for Tanglewood to focus more on acquiring talent internal vs. externally because most of
the people they hire would be the type to be looking for career progression for a long term career
and they would not have as much of a need to hire a large amount of workers at one time or the
need to create new specific entry level types of jobs. A core or flexible workforce is both needed

weapons and nearly ended everything with them as well. America placed Jupiter Missiles with
nuclear capabilities in Turkey and Italy, as part of NATO s cold wardeterrent against the soviets.
This is what many people say started the tensions, we placed Nukes at their doorstep, thusly
Nikita Khrushchev, the Soviet Premier feared the imbalance of power would prompt America to
strike first. While this psychological fear of Khrushchevs is a piece to the puzzle, many other
things factor into the eventual crisis. The economic dealings between the Soviets and Cuba,
already gave Khrushchev a footing near America in which he could fix the imbalance of power.
But the only reason the USSR and Cuba began dealing with each other is because America cut
off 80% of its exports, creating economic tensions in Cuba. While those are 2 places people point
the blame for the start of the crisis, a final nail in the coffin could also be blamed. The political
ideology John F. Kennedy which feared the spreading of nuclear technology to new nations; he did
claim that the U.S. lagged behind the Soviets in nuclear capabilities during his campaign. JFK
knew as well as Khrushchev did that this was false, but the general thought could only procure
more reason for Khrushchev to plant missiles near America. If America believed they lagged behind

A Research Study On Vitiligo Pathogenesis
4. Discussion
Vitiligo is an acquired depigmentation disorder of skin and hair. It is a cosmetically disfiguring
disease caused due to melanocytes destruction [Moretti et al., 2002], however, the pathogenesis of
such disease is still conflicting. Many previous studies tried to explain the pathogenesis according
to many points of view, they showed that it could either be an autoimmune mechanism, a neural
dysfunction, metabolic mechanism, or genetic causes [Moretti et al., 2002, Zhang et al,2005,
Yazici et al., 2006].
In this study, we decided to assess the genetic factor in vitiligo pathogenesis. Our study detected a
non significant association between IFN Оі +874A/T or +2109A/G gene polymorphism and vitiligo
susceptibility. In line with our finding Dwivedi, et al,2013 couldn t consider IFN Оі +874 T/A
polymorphism as a genetic risk factor for generalized vitiligo. Also, an Iranian study, couldn t
confirm a relation between IFN Оі +874 T/A gene polymorphism and vitiligo risk [Namian et al.,
2009].
When we studied the different haplotype frequencies of INF Оі (+874A/T) and INF Оі (+2109A/G)
polymorphisms in vitiligo patients and control distributions, we observed a significant elevation of
the haplotype TA in vitiligo patients when compared with control group (P 0.03), this indicated
increased risk of vitiligo with this haplotype. To the best of our knowledge, no previous studies
were done to assess IFN Оі +2109A/G gene polymorphism in relation to vitiligo and no

action that Bilbo made was when all the dwarves were captured by the Spiders in Mirkwood. He

his friends and he couldn’t permit the quest to end like that. The last heroic action that he
made was when he went to the humans’ and elves’ camp to give them the
Arkestone, a very important gem for the dwarves, to permit them deal the peace. He risked his life
and betrayed Thorin’s trust to try to avoid the war between them. Bilbo’s purpose
always was for the benefit of everyone and not for his own benefit, and this, he acted like a most
valuable hero. In fact, Bilbo Baggins was one of the most important heroes of the novel because
he sacrificed his life for his friend’s life. He was very smart and always solved the

Argumentative Essay On Gene Therapy
In 1990 the first gene therapy procedure gained approval and a four year old girl with SCIDs
disease was finally able to fight off a simple cold. She is now able to live a normal life with the
help of continued treatment of gene therapy. Although gene therapy is an innovative and ideally
favorable procedure when it comes to treating diseases, cancer, or inherited disorders, it is still a
delicate procedure and is continuously studied to insure it is not only effective but also and
most importantly safe. In order to insure the safety of patients a gene therapy drug must get the
approval of the FDA before becoming available, as every drug must do. Since gene therapy is
still very experimental; there are only a few gene therapy drugs that have been approved by the
FDA to treat patients. However, on August 30th, 2017 history was made when the FDA
approved Kymriah, the first CAR T cell therapy drug to be available in the United States.
Kymriah is a one time treatment for patients with B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, it was
developed through the research collaboration of Novartis and the University of Pennsylvania,
and it is manufactured for each individual patient. Kymriah s only drawback would be the price
tag of $475,000 for a course of treatment, however Novartis plans to wave the fee for patients
where Kymriah is not successful. When a parent takes their child to the doctor the last thing they
want to hear is that their child has cancer. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for a child to be
diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, also known as ALL. Acute Lymphoblastic
Leukemia is one of the most common forms of childhood cancer, and makes up approximately
25% of cancer diagnoses among children under 15 years old (3). Children under five years of
age are at the most risk of developing ALL. Since it is an acute form of cancer once the onset has
begun the disease quickly begins to worsen, therefore patients must seek treatment as soon as
possible. ALL is different than other diseases in that it is not just a single disease but also rather a
group of related diseases with different subtypes (1). This uniqueness causes the treatment of ALL
to depend on the subtypes the patient has, therefore each

on the following relation Simulated annealing duplicates a phenomenon in nature the annealing of
solids to optimize a complex system. Annealing refers to a process of heating a solid to a liquid
state and then cooling it down slowly such that thermal equilibrium is maintained. Atoms then
assume a nearly global minimum energy mode. In 1953 Metropolis created an algorithm in order
to simulate the annealing process. The algorithm simulates a small random displacement of an
atom that leads to a change in energy. If the change in energy is negative, the energy mode of the
novel configuration is lower and the novel configuration is accepted. If the change in energy is
positive, the novel configuration has a higher energy state; but, it may still be accepted based on
the Boltzmann probability factor [103 104]: 2.21 where is the Boltzmann constant and denotes the
current temperature. By examining this relation, we should note two things: the probability is
proportional to temperature, as the solid cools, the probability gets smaller; and inversely
proportional to , as the change in energy is larger the probability of accepting the changes gets
smaller. When used in engineering design, an analogy is made between energy and the objective
function. The design is begin with a high

investment may be in a controlled range of operations, rather than being forced by the debt. This
investment philosophy can also be wielded in life. That suggests people should buy things within
their own ability. Buffett s personal life also illustrates this investment philosophy: no loans. As his
advice: Stay away from credit cards (bank loans) and invest in yourself.6 (Elyssa Kirkham, 2017)
He has never borrowed a significant amount not to invest, not for a mortgage 7. He said: Negotiate
with creditors to pay what you can. Then, when you re debt free, work on saving some money that
you can use to invest.8 Secondly, investors should have correct investing behaviour. That means
people should gather enough information and analyse them before making a correct investment
decision. Buffett never makes stock recommendations to others. Investing behavior should be
driven by information, analysis, and self discipline, not by emotion or hunch. 9 Wrote in his

How Did Alcatraz Make It Out Alive
Did the 3 men that escaped Alcatraz make it out alive? Yes, in my opinion, I think they made it
out alive, due to lots of evidence and facts I think they made it out alive. The Alcatraz escapees
had made a raft out of over 50 raincoats. When they had finally finished making the raft they
sailed off in victory knowing they were finally free. They had only one struggle until knowing
they were finally free and that was if they would make it out alive or not. It has been stated that
there was a raft found with footsteps leading away from it on Angel Island. According to, Did
Frank Morris make it out alive video, there goal was to make it to Angel Island. Another goal that

that the relationship between phytoplankton and detritus, microorganisms and other decaying

individuals benefit from the association. The food webs of Numbinbah and Hastings Point
visualized a common mutualistic relationship that detritus and microorganisms are eaten mainly
from primary consumers such as mollusucs (The primary consumers pink barnacle, common
limpet, sea stars, chiton and blue periwinkle) and insects (flies, moths and ants). The connection
between the mosquito and the detritus in the Numbinbah Food Web, can be also classified as
parasitism which is where one organism benefits at the expense of another organism. Mosquitos
feed on the blood of the organism and may cause diseases such as malaria towards the host. Another
connection between the two webs is birds are the tertiary consumer in both environments where the
tertiary consumers feed on the secondary consumer. The webs of Hastings Point and Numbinbah

The valuation process, in this case, requires us to estimate the short run non constant growth rate
and predict future dividends. Then, we must estimate a constant long term growth rate at which the
firm is expected to grow. Generally, we assume that after a certain point of time, all firms begin to
grow at a rather constant rate. Of course, the difficulty in this framework is estimating the short
term growth rate, how long the short term growth will hold, and the long term growth rate.
What are the expected dividend yield and capital gains yield during the first year?
P0=46.66 Expected dividend yield= 2.6/46.66 = 5.6%
Capital gains yield= 7.4%
What are the expected dividend yield and capital gains yield during the fourth year (from Year 3 to

i. What is free cash flow (FCF)?
A measure of financial performance calculated as operating cash flow minus capital expenditures.
Free cash flow (FCF) represents the cash that a company is able to generate after laying out the
money required to maintain or expand its asset base. Free cash flow is important because it allows a
company to pursue opportunities that enhance shareholder value. Without cash, it s tough to
develop new products, make acquisitions, pay dividends and reduce debt.

Differential Association Theory Differential association theory was Sutherland s major sociological
contribution to criminology; similar in importance to strain theory and social control theory. These
theories all explain deviance in terms of the individual s social relationships. Sutherland s theory
departs from the pathological perspective and biological perspective by attributing the cause of
crime to the social context of individuals. He rejected biological determinism and the extreme
individualism of psychiatry, as well as economic explanations of crime. His search for an alternative
understanding of crime led to the development of differential association theory. In contrast to both
classical and biological theories,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Negatively, this means that the learning of criminal behavior is not restricted to the process of
imitation. A person who is seduced, for instance, learns criminal behavior by association, but
this would not be ordinarily described as imitation. 9. While criminal behavior is an expression
of general needs and values, it is not explained by those general needs and values since non
criminal behavior is an expression of the same needs and values. Thieves generally steal in order
to secure money, but likewise honest laborers work in order to money. The attempts to explain
criminal behavior by general drives and values such as the money motive have been, and must
completely to be, futile, since they explain lawful behavior as completely as they explain criminal
behavior. They are similar to respiration, which is necessary for any behavior, but which does not
differentiate criminal from noncriminal behavior. (Sutherland, 1974: 75 76) In summary, he
believed that an individual s associations are determined in a general context of social organization
(for instance, family income as a factor of determining residence of family and in many cases,
delinquency rate is largely related to the rental value of houses) and thus differential group
organization as an explanation of various crime rates is consistent with the differential association
theory. (Sutherland, 1974: 77) Much of Sutherland s theory relied upon the work of Chicago school

Prejudice In The Divine Wind By Garry Disher
In his novel, The Divine Wind Garry Disher engages his reader and persuades them to consider the
ideas of friendship, prejudice and love. In the pressure pot of the racially charged Broome, Western
Australia during the testing times of the second world war, Disher encourages his readers to
connect to the characters by using recurring and universal themes. Through the effective use of
literary techniques such as narrative structure, characterisation and setting, the novel encourages
and develops the audience s understanding of the testing, slippery state of friendship, the ever
present prejudice in this society, and love in its different kinds.

Popular Mechanics Carver
Review of the story Popular Mechanics by Raymon Carver. Raymond Carver creates an
atmosphere of unresolved uncertainty that becomes menacing as the story draws to a conclusion.
Carver s method is to leave out details in the course of dialogue, revealing very little despite the
heightened sensitivity for meaning that the characters display. (Powell, 1994.Absract, p.1) Carver
starts the story with a very significant sentence the weather turned and the snow was melting into
dirty water ( Carver,1981. p.1 ), which makes the reader understand that the story will develop from
something positive to negative. Snow is often considered a pure element and refers to a quite
situation. The dirty water, at the contrary represents the conflict... Show more content on

Raymond Carver uses ordinary language to expose the inability of communicating the reality of
experience through purely referential language. He has been criticized for being a minimalist
writer. Underneath the obviousness of his language, he subverts the simplistic equation of
words to meaning. ( Trussler, 1994, p.1 ) Is the evidence relevant? How do I know? The
evidence is relevant because it has been retrieved from the UoPeople Library which provides
access to quality resources to support the academic program of the Univerisity ( Library
services, n.d) Have I heard/read anything similar or dissimilar? What was it? I have never read a
similar story, but it has been very interesting. I got a few information about the author s life and
writing style in order to better understand the story, its meaning and its message. Do I agree or
disagree with the views expressed by the author? Why? The author gives to readers the possibility
to have their own point of view, but I think I have catched the feelings that Carver wants to
transmit , which are anger and danger. It follows that I agree with the views expressed by the author.

Superhero-Personal Narrative
I was preparing to destroy myself. I left my room, seeking out my closest relatives to bid
farewell. I had resolved to come clean to reveal my true identity. I was no superhero; just a
terrified boy hoping to finally accept himself. The secret I had harbored so easily for years was
finally consuming me. I was forced upon the brink of self loathing: a single moment away from
losing what little confidence it had taken me 17 years to muster. The words choked me. My
mind swelled. A flood of insecurities launched a last ditch effort to preserve my so called
identity. I could back down; I could save myself; I could return to the safety of my own
deception. But as I plummeted into that smothering abyss, I knew that I must act. And so I
resisted. And so I confessed. And so I spoke. Mom...Dad...I m a writer. Oh yeah, I m gay too but
that s beside the point. Coming out as a writer wasn t easy for me I wasn t sure if my family
could accept it, or if what I felt was a true indication of who I was. Was it natural for me to feel
this way? Was I faking it ? Even though I had always mused about and acted on urges as a child, I

Writing was undoubtedly my first (and arguably final) natural talent to develop. Growing up, I
did not find immediate success with athletics. For an awkward, gay kid who would much rather
host a ball than catch one, writing granted me a confidence boost proportional to the dignity I lost
on the field. Even in the classroom, I struggled to make genuine friends, my companionships often
burning bright and fizzling all too quickly. My relationship with writing, however, has always been
far more comparable to a fit of sincere laughter slow to begin, impossible to

Comparing Chopin s The Interlopers And Story Of An Hour
When you go to compare and contrast, the first items you look for would probably be the
obvious, such as the plot. The Interlopers and Story of an Hour (Saki and Kate Chopin,
respectively) are not easily comparable in their plot, settings or subjects; however, the devices and
some main parts are the same. There are situational ironies in both. In The Interlopers, they are
fighting with each other and you expect one to die, then the story twists, and they become friends.
Then the story twists again, and the ending makes it seem like they both die. No, said Ulrich with
a laugh, the idiotic chattering laugh of a man unstrung with hideous fear. Who are they? asked
Georg quickly, straining his eyes to see what the other would gladly not have seen. Wolves. 1

2 In this, we also see that there is death in both stories. There is a tree or trees in both, but it is a
bigger part of the story in The Interlopers. In The Interlopers, a tree falls during a storm and
pinions the two main characters to the ground. A fierce shriek of the storm had been answered
by a splitting crash over their heads, and ere they could leap aside, a mass of falling beech tree
had thundered down on them. 3 This causes them to become friends, but also causes their deaths.
In Story of an Hour, the main character observes the trees through the window, but not much else
is said about them. Both stories mention families, although family is most important in Story of
an Hour. In Story of an Hour, the main character s family comes to comfort her, after her husbands
tragic supposed death. She lets them console her, but then she doesn t want them near, and runs to
her room to have some time to herself. She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her
sister s arms. When the storm of grief had spent itself she went away to her room alone. She would
have no one follow her.

Explore How Ian Mcmillan Conveys His Attitudes Towards the...
McMillan uses harsh words throughout the poem to show his grief and remorse at his mothers
death. Words like shatters link with how he is feeling, like everything is broken and cannot be
repaired. This word makes us imagine something broken into lots of tiny pieces which can t be put
back together again, and it helps us to understand how broken and jumbled up he is feeling. The
word slap when talking about the tears (that) slap my torn face insinuates the idea that he is in
physical pain, that the emotional pain he feels is is so strong that he physically hurts.
In the first stanza, we find out about his mothers death. Enjambment is used to speed up the pace

McMillan describes his tears to slap his torn face ; as well as slap being a raw and aggressive
word, the way he describes his face as torn perhaps suggests that it was his mother who held him
together, and now, without her, he is broken. This helps us to realise how important his mother
was to him, which makes us sympathise for him a lot and evokes a feeling of empathy when we
put ourselves in his position. McMillan says he feels trapped , like he is trapped by his own emotion
and although it s up to him to find a way out of this dark place, he can t see an escape. This
shows how alone and scared he is feeling knowing his motherr is no longer around and also makes
us think how panicked he must be feeling, as we would be if we were trapped somewhere. The
word float makes us think that McMillan is no longer in control of his emotions, that what he is
feeling is unstoppable, but also it instigates the sense that nothing seems quite normal around him,
and that he is detached from reality.
The final stanza is a rhyming couplet that summarises the grief and emptiness and the lack of will
to go on without his mother. Feeling that the story ends just here conveys the idea that there isn t a
story to continue without his mother, showing how depressed McMillan is feeling, like he has
reached a dead end in his

How Climate Change Affected Canada
Climate change happens when long term weather patterns are refined. It can be identified in the
changes of temperature, winds, precipitation, and other forms of natural processes. This can occur
through many different factors, one being through human activity. Global warming is one of the
main scales used to measure climatechange. For life to be able to continue on Earth, the sun is
required. Solar radiation is reflected back into space, however, small amounts of radiation get
trapped in the Earth s atmosphere, causing a rise of temperature. The atmosphere is composed of
delicate gases, the most important gas being Carbon Dioxide. A main component on Earth is
Carbon, which is released into the atmosphere through many activities, one human... Show more

Rap Impact On Rap Culture
Within History, Rap has been considered the CNN for black people ; what started as a way to
express struggles in the ghettos of New York has transformed into one of the most popular
genres of music in America. The popularity of rap has allowed many to have their voices heard,
created new fashion trends, and even developed popular modern slang used by people
throughout the world. The commercialization of rap has resulted in a significant following of the
culture in America but also a large number of people who oppose the music. The culture of rap
music has a substantial impact on popular culture in America, and by using an open mind and
looking past the violence and language, people can better understand the meaning behind rap
and the perception that follows it in America today. The foundation of rap started to evolve into
a form of art, and it was intended for people to express their problems about growing up on the
streets. Originating within the Bronx of New York City, it was used to share the struggles of
growing up in violence, hardships, and as a minority in America. Companies began to capitalize
on the growth of rap in the 90s through marketing techniques used to portray stereotypes of the
culture associated with the genre. In her essay Selling to Children: The Marketing of Cool, Juliet
B. Schor says In the 1990s, ads aimed at white, middle class Americans began to be filmed in inner
city neighborhoods with young black men as the stars (220). Schor then goes

An example this year would be to explain what goals an employee would set for themselves and
how they can help the company achieve their overall goal of reaching a billion dollars this year.
Each of these questions gives an opportunity for the employee to feel engaged and see
themselves as a critical part of the overall success of WorldVentures. Once the employees answer
the prompted questions they are asked to grade their performance 1 5, five being the highest. At
this point the PMP is turned into the direct manager, their task is to then fill out the last
comment box with their own observations and set a meeting time for each of their employees.
The meeting is one on one in a fairly comfortable setting. The employee is then given a chance to
hear their manager s observations and goal ideas with time to discuss and ask questions along
the way. At the end of the meeting each person signs the PMP agreeing that they will work
towards the agreed upon goals and understand the grade their manager has given, wither it is the
same or different from the grade they gave themselves. HR is then given the PMPs for everyone s
files and assists the managers with any escalations or over the top issues as they come up. If
employees need further training or development as the performance reviews conclude,
WorldVentures has several different options. Leadership classes are offered to supervisors and
above through the local community college.

  • 2. Essay on Olaudah Equiano The Horrid Journey If it were not for the stories past down from generation to generation or the documentations in historical books, the history of the twelve million African slaves that traveled the Middle Passage in miserable conditions would not exist. Olaudah Equiano contributes to this horrid history with The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. Through this narrative, the appalling personal experience of each slave is depicted. He accomplishes his rhetorical purpose of informing the world of the slave experience in this narrative. His use of unique style and rhetorical devices in this conveying narrative portray his imperative rhetorical purpose. Throughout Equiano s works, a unique style is evident. This... In addition, Equiano s use of imagery clearly depicts the journey of the Africans slaves, such as The closeness of the place, and the heat of the climate, added to the number in the ship, which was so crowded that each had scarcely room to turn himself, almost suffocated us (45). Through the portrayal of this vivid imagery, the reader can feel the distress of the slaves in which they encountered the journey of the Middle Passage. He emphasizes his emotions, ideals, and thoughts through the imagery. With the uses of this vivid imagery along with high diction and intricate sentences, Equiano successfully attempts to inform the reader of the horrid journey of slave transportation. However, it is not only his unique style alone that fulfils his rhetorical purpose of depicting the appalling slave experience; in addition, his several rhetorical devices aid to do so. Equiano s rhetorical devices which include ethos, pathos, and logos abet to define and accomplish his rhetorical purpose. His ethos, or ethical assurance, is conveyed in his level of education portrayed by his sentence structure and high diction. Furthermore, as proven in historical documents, Equiano was a slave aboard one of the many slave ships. With this, the reader can accredit Equiano s narrative to be a reliable and first hand source to the journey of the Middle Passage. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Sleepy Hollow Folk Tale Characteristics in the Legend of Sleepy Hollow The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is one of the most well known stories in American literature, and with good reason. Throughout his story, Washington Irving uses many stylistic ideas to create a fantastically detailed and descriptive romantic folk tale. Irving begins The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with a vivid description of the setting of his story. Beginning with the Dutch history of the area, he goes on to describe the town as one of the quietest places in the whole world , with a tranquil brook running through it and the sweet sounds of chirping birds all around (1). Irving delves into the town s history, citing Indian legends which say that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sky is depicted as being clear and serene , and the surrounding trees wore that rich golden livery which we always associate with the idea of abundance (9). Another half of a paragraph is devoted to describing the sober and brilliant colors of the grees, the wild ducks flying above, the chattering noises of the squirrel, and the cry of the quail. The following paragraph is entirely dedicated to noticing all the local breeds of birds, such as the cockrobin, blackbirds, golden winged woodpecker, cedar bird, and blue jay. The fruits and vegetables are given special notice as well, and is described as vast, rich, ample, and holding out the promise of cakes and hasty pudding (10). This description of nature is a major traditional characteristic of the romantic genre, because it contributes to the fascination with nature, describing it not only as being beautiful, but also as an abundant resource. Hearsay is another prominant characteristic of a romantic folk tale. Folk tales are traditionally passed down orally, and are often subject to exaggerations or outright lies in order to enhance their entertainment appeal. This stylistic trait is found in many details throughout Irving s story. Right from the begining of his tale, the narrator lets his audience know that there are many theories regarding the curse of the Sleepy Hollow land, and no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Amontillado Montresor Revenge In the small hours of a cold December night, in 1916, Rasputin was driven to the palace of the Czar s cousin Prince Yusupov; for what he thought was a secret tryst with a beautiful woman. Together, the Prince and Rasputin descended the steps to the basement of the palace. It had been specially converted into a small dining room, a private place to attempt to murder. While the Prince s co conspirators waited upstairs, Yusupov passed a plate of rich sweet cream cakes to Rasputin. Each cake held enough cyanide to kill a man. To guarantee success, the wine was also laced with cyanide. The plan seemed foolproof. Though Rasputin ate the cream cakes and became rather drunk from the wine, the poison seems to have no effect. A piece of dramatic irony that we are given is that we know Fortunato is going to be killed, unfortunately Fortunato does not know this. Fortunato s name is even ironic. Fortunato means the fortunate one in Italian. (Campbell) In the story it is clear he wasn t so fortunate. Fortunato adds to the irony of his name by wearing the costume of a court jester. While Fortunato plays in jest, Montresor sets out to fool him, with murderous results. The bells on Fortunato s jester costume plays with the irony of the story. Roger Platizky writes, To a significant degree, Poe s fear of live burial had a cultural counterpart. Kennedy and others have shown that premature burial was a preoccupation in eighteenth and nineteenth century America and Europe largely because death was more often in the hands of the medical community and funerals had become secularized.(n2) In an attempt to keep living entombments from occurring, coffins and vaults especially for the wealthier classes were equipped with special springs and sounding devices to give the person mistakenly buried alive a chance to be rescued (Crichton 326 28). One of the most pragmatic of these devices, which involved the placing of bells on the limbs of the recently dead, was exhibited at Brooklyn s Greenwood Cemetery in 1845, just a year before Poe published his short story. • 8. Persuasive Speech On Whale Captivity How would you feel if you were a killer whale performing in front of thousands of people? For many years people have argued if killer whales should be kept in captivity or not. Blackfish, a documentary on Seaworld and killer whales, had argued with Seaworld against whale captivity. Killer whale captivity must be banned because whales can get ill or injured, they can be dangerous to humans, and they can get separated from their families. Killer whalescaptivity is a major issue because they could become sick or injured there. According to Blackfish, orca whales in captivity tend to become hyper aggressive towards new whales. This results in whaleon whale incidents where the whales can get severely injured, or can even die. Some examples of these incidents, as The Dodo has said, are a male whale named Nakai had his chin torn off in a fight. Additionally, a female whale named Kandu broke her own jaw and cut her artery in a fight, eventually bleeding to death. Her calf was circling around her during the event. In addition, the Huffington Post states, animals may suffer from captivity related stresses that lower their resistance and make them more susceptible to disease, making lifespans in captivity significantly lower than in the wild. To add on, The Dodo states, One big issue was the terrible state of the orcas teeth. Captive orcas are already at risk for dental trauma bored and stressed, they often begin gnawing on the edges of their tanks. They also state that these occurrences in the wild are very rare. Also, whales like Tilikum got a lung infection due to bacterial pneumonia, which is the most common reason why captive whales and dolphins die (according to Wikipedia). Tilikum had also died due to the disease. This indicates that whale captivity leads to many incidents and diseases that the whales would not have faced in the wild. All these problems are caused due to them being captive. Orca captivity is also dangerous for human beings. For example, Tilikum was the cause of the death of 3 people as shown in Blackfish. First, he and 2 other whales drowned Keltie Byrne, who had slipped into the pool. She was screaming and tried to escape, but the whales pulled her back and drowned her. Then, a ... • 9. Stereotyping Stereotypes When we use stereotypes, we are criticizing someone, for example, when we say all police officers are corrupt, all men who aren t into sports are gay or all blonde women are dumb. Stereotyping is a result of incompetence on distorted information accepted as a fact without question. A stereotype is simply a widely held belief that an individual is a member of a certain group based upon characteristics. Stereotyping can be positive, for example, all Blacks are good at sports, all Asians are good at math or French people are romantic. Stereotypes can also help identify how to interact with each other, for example Canadians are exceptionally polite. Either way stereotyping is morally wrong and judgmental. If your group is positively stereotyped in an area, then you can endure a lot more frustration and difficultly before you assume or infer that you don t belong in that domain (Steele, 2010). This paper will focus on the origin of stereotyping, how stereotypes affect judgement and behavior and will explore profiling versus stereotyping. Stereotyping is defined as an oversimplified, usually pejorative, attitude people hold toward those outside one s own experience who are different. They are a result of incomplete or distorted information accepted as fact without question. A stereotypeis simply a widely held belief that an individual is a member of a certain group based on characteristics. Due to the process of overgeneralization within social perception, stereotyping leads to a great deal of inaccuracy in social perception (Chandler, n.d.). ##My stance is## Stereotyping is always morally wrong and judgmental. How you reach your opinion of others makes it morally wrong, when you encounter someone for the first time you should not have a prejudged notion of that person, first impressions should always start from zero. The most ethical place to begin is to acknowledge that you have biases and stereotypes and once your interaction starts then place them accordingly. Stereotyping is a mental shortcut and this isn t always negative although we should be aware that we all harmlessly do it and must always be conscious of it. As humans, we want to associate quickly for instance, tiger, danger, don t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Domestic Violence Against Women Act Of 1994 Domestic Violence Health Policy Yuliet Pozo Martinez South University Abstract Despite the fact the physical effects of domestic violence could be the similar as for other forms of violent crime, the emotional effects can be much worse. Domestic violence happens when a crime is committed against a victim by someone with whom the victim is or has previously found, in a close relationship or somebody living in the same household as the victim. Reliable with this federal inventiveness, the Crime Bill also modified the Gun Control Act to embrace domestic violence related crimes. Congress reiterated its commitment to fight domestic violence crimes by the performing in the fall of 1996 of extra federal domestic violence crimes in both VAWA and the Gun Control Act. The federal government has largely lacked authority over several domestic violence crimes. However domestic violence remains primarily a matter of state and local jurisdiction (Lindhorst, Casey, Meyers, 2010). Federal Legislation The Violence against WomenAct (VAWA) delineated funding programs to avoid violence against women and set a national domestic violence hotline. Also, new protections were given to victims of domestic abuse, such as confidentiality of new address and modifications to migration regulations that permit an abused partner to apply for permanent residency. Inside the economic policy you will find all sorts of things that help make the policy stand on it s two feet. Based upon the three pillars and what each one deals with you can see that you can not take away the political side of it because it would then demand a smaller role for the government and a less tax policy. So the next branch of the economic policy would be demand side. Demand side economics relates to an economic theory that defends the use of government spending and growth in the money supply to prompt the demand for goods and services, thus leading to the expand of economic activity. With demand side economics there is a theory that some believe will work. Demand side economist support government spending to the fullest. • 16. Motivation, Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation Motivation is a very important factor no matter what sport you coach or what the team or athlete goals are. A true coach must be able to understand their athlete and be able to tap into their motivation, maximizing their performance. Chapter four was written about two particular types of motivation, intrinsic and extrinsic. No matter what theory you believe, all theories boil down to these two types of motivation. Knowing the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, can help you hone in on athletes, their goals, and help them maximize their performance. Succeeding in sports, really boils down to three main characteristics, helping athletes set goals and work towards them, conducting reviews of athlete s performance with the athlete, and conduct team sessions. When it comes towards motivation, the easiest way to get an athlete working towards a goal is to sit down and conduct a goal setting session with them. Every person has goals they want to attain, but may not know how to deploy a plan of action towards achieving those goals. There are many ways to conduct goal setting, some ways are easier than others. One I like to use is a seven step process. The athlete writes down their goal, being very specific, define where you are right now, identify key areas to improve on in order to achieve the goal, identify actions to take and attitudes to help keep moving towards the goal, identify a short term goal to begin momentum, create an image of the goal that an ... The defeat of Harold at the Battle of Hastings gave feudalism a really strong start in the country since none of the people of England agreed to a feudal government system the system was strong because it was basically forced upon them. Another point where feudalism was strong in the country was with its army. Since the country had been divided into several plots, each plot had its own army therefore when all armies united to fight as one county the army was big. Another strong point was that England was that the barons did not get in the way of the life routine of the peasants as much as other countries did. • 23. A Short Note On Thyroid And Parathyroid Glands 1 Stacey RaposaOctober 11,2014 Module IV Assignment Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands Thyroid The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland with two lobes, one on each side of the trachea, below the level of the larynx. These lobes are connected by a narrow piece of tissue called the isthmus (Johnstone, Farley, Hendry, McLafferty, 2014). The thyroidconsists of follicles, which contain follicular cells that synthesize and secrete the thyroid hormones. These hormones are tetra iodothyronine or thyroxine (T4), tri iodothyronine (T3) and calcitonin. The main function of the thyroid gland is to control the body s metabolic rate; however in children it also controls growth and development (Warren, 2014). The thyroid gland is controlled by thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), which is secreted by the pituitary gland (Warren, 2014). These hormones are produced by an endocrine feedback loop that allows the body to control their release according to need (Hall, 2010). The hypothalamus, which synthesizes and secretes Thyrotrophin releasing hormone (TRH), initiates this loop (Hall, 2010). These hormones can be measured in the blood and are important in diagnosing and managing thyroid disease. Thyroid disease is seen in three forms: under activity (hypothyroidism), over activity (hyperthyroidism) and swelling of the thyroid. Thyroid disease is one of the most common disorders of the endocrine system and is more common in women than men. Hypothyroidism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The author illustrates how his actions and mentality, thus their relationship, evolved over a short period resulting from the purchase of the house, which was originally intended to appease the majority, since not everyone initially approved of this use of the money. Therefore, this altering of mindset and relationship conveys that, by selecting the choice best suited for the majority, one may unknowingly be selecting an option that becomes best suited for everyone and that is eventually unanimously agreed upon. It is a cosmetically disfiguring disease caused due to melanocytes destruction [Moretti et al., 2002], however, the pathogenesis of such disease is still conflicting. Many previous studies tried to explain the pathogenesis according to many points of view, they showed that it could either be an autoimmune mechanism, a neural dysfunction, metabolic mechanism, or genetic causes [Moretti et al., 2002, Zhang et al,2005, Yazici et al., 2006]. In this study, we decided to assess the genetic factor in vitiligo pathogenesis. Our study detected a non significant association between IFN Оі +874A/T or +2109A/G gene polymorphism and vitiligo susceptibility. In line with our finding Dwivedi, et al,2013 couldn t consider IFN Оі +874 T/A polymorphism as a genetic risk factor for generalized vitiligo. Also, an Iranian study, couldn t confirm a relation between IFN Оі +874 T/A gene polymorphism and vitiligo risk [Namian et al., 2009]. When we studied the different haplotype frequencies of INF Оі (+874A/T) and INF Оі (+2109A/G) polymorphisms in vitiligo patients and control distributions, we observed a significant elevation of the haplotype TA in vitiligo patients when compared with control group (P 0.03), this indicated increased risk of vitiligo with this haplotype. • 36. Argumentative Essay On Gene Therapy In 1990 the first gene therapy procedure gained approval and a four year old girl with SCIDs disease was finally able to fight off a simple cold. She is now able to live a normal life with the help of continued treatment of gene therapy. Although gene therapy is an innovative and ideally favorable procedure when it comes to treating diseases, cancer, or inherited disorders, it is still a delicate procedure and is continuously studied to insure it is not only effective but also and most importantly safe. In order to insure the safety of patients a gene therapy drug must get the approval of the FDA before becoming available, as every drug must do. Since gene therapy is still very experimental; there are only a few gene therapy drugs that have been approved by the FDA to treat patients. However, on August 30th, 2017 history was made when the FDA approved Kymriah, the first CAR T cell therapy drug to be available in the United States. Kymriah is a one time treatment for patients with B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, it was developed through the research collaboration of Novartis and the University of Pennsylvania, and it is manufactured for each individual patient. Kymriah s only drawback would be the price tag of $475,000 for a course of treatment, however Novartis plans to wave the fee for patients where Kymriah is not successful. When a parent takes their child to the doctor the last thing they want to hear is that their child has cancer. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for a child to be diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, also known as ALL. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is one of the most common forms of childhood cancer, and makes up approximately 25% of cancer diagnoses among children under 15 years old (3). Children under five years of age are at the most risk of developing ALL. Since it is an acute form of cancer once the onset has begun the disease quickly begins to worsen, therefore patients must seek treatment as soon as possible. ALL is different than other diseases in that it is not just a single disease but also rather a group of related diseases with different subtypes (1). This uniqueness causes the treatment of ALL to depend on the subtypes the patient has, therefore each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ants start at the home node, and then travel through the various layers from the п¬Ѓrst layer to the last/п¬Ѓnal layer, and end at the destination node in each cycle or iteration. Each ant can select only one node in each layer based on the state transition rule given by Eq. (2 9). The nodes chosen along the path visited by an ant represent a candidate solution. For instance, a typical path visited by an ant is depicted by thick lines in Fig. 2.2. This path represents the solution (x12, x23, x31, x45, x56, x64). Annealing refers to a process of heating a solid to a liquid state and then cooling it down slowly such that thermal equilibrium is maintained. Atoms then assume a nearly global minimum energy mode. In 1953 Metropolis created an algorithm in order to simulate the annealing process. The algorithm simulates a small random displacement of an atom that leads to a change in energy. If the change in energy is negative, the energy mode of the novel configuration is lower and the novel configuration is accepted. If the change in energy is positive, the novel configuration has a higher energy state; but, it may still be accepted based on the Boltzmann probability factor [103 104]: 2.21 where is the Boltzmann constant and denotes the current temperature. By examining this relation, we should note two things: the probability is proportional to temperature, as the solid cools, the probability gets smaller; and inversely proportional to , as the change in energy is larger the probability of accepting the changes gets smaller.
