Pre Colonial America Summary
Pre Modern Colonial America In The Radicalism of the American Revolution, Gordan S. Wood
creates an in depth analysis of why colonial America could be classified as a pre modern society. He
presents a thorough argument for how hierarchal trends and patriarchal dependency of the colonists
emphasized the more traditional culture of the early Americans. The colonists had created a society in
which there was a deep prevalence for British customs, such as, reverence for the king, the inheritance
of land and status, the strength of a household, and the importance of rank (Wood 12, 16, 46, 18).
Before the revolution, America resembled its native England; once they had severed ties and moved
forward with their own form of government with confidence, pre modern America initiated the first
steps to become a truly independent and modern nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By building up their family trees, colonial Americans were able to use their kinship as an advantage in
a variety of ways including, but not limited to, the manipulation of politics (Wood 48). This was due
to the patriarchal dependency of most of the citizens; in colonial America the familial household was
the center of society and the strength of it. The patriarchal tradition of the society creates a system in
which the institutions mimic households; that created a society that was dependent on a head because
no man was independent in and of himself

Cardiac Arrhythmias
Cardiac Arrhythmias occurs when the electrical impulses of the heart don t work properly, causing the
heart to beat either too fast, too slow or irregular. There a two different types of cardiac arrhythmias;
supraventricular and ventricular. The supraventricular arrhythmias occur when electrical abnormalities
are generated in the sinoatrial node, atria, atrioventricular node, and the junctional tissue in the heart.
The ventricular arrhythmias are generated in the ventricular conduction system and the ventricle. Due
to the fact the ventricle pumps blood to the heart, if the blood isn t pumped effectively to the vital
organs they can t function properly causing them to shut down and becoming damaged, causing
ventricular arrhythmias to be more

Advances are strongest in the Asia/Pacific region due to on going rapid industrialization as well as
rising car ownership rates. Both of these trends will also favor healthy growth in the Africa/Mideast
region and Latin America. Meanwhile, the greater availability of advanced, high performance
lubricants, greater global competition and increasingly stringent environmental rules result in reduced
or negative growth in lubricant demand in the more developed countries of North America and
Western Europe, as well as in Eastern Europe and Japan.

With the automotive business in deep trouble in most parts of the world, China and India continue to
surge ahead with production to meet consumers growing demand for cars. Just as the Western world s
love affair with the automobile spawned a major industrial and cultural shift, the growing car park in
China and India is driving an evolution not only in consumer mobility, but also in lubricant demand,
creating vast opportunities for lubricant and basestock marketers.Once the powerhouse of worldwide
production, the U.S. auto industry has suffered severely at the hands of a protracted recession.
Between lagging consumer demand and financial pressures, the entire NAFTA region has been
weakened. However, on the other side of the globe, China and India are surging ahead with

Explain why it is important to ensure children and young...
Ensuring children and young people s safety and welfare in the work setting is an essential part of
safeguarding. While children are at school, practitioners act in loco parentis while their parents are
away. As part of their legal and professional obligations, practitioners hold positions of trust and a
duty of care to the children in their school, and therefore should always act in their best interests and
ensure their safety the welfare of the child is paramount (Children Act 1989). The Children Act 2004
came in with the Every Child Matters (ECM) guidelines and greatly impacted the way schools look at
the care and welfare of pupils. Children and young people should be helped to learn and thrive and be

Practitioners should check for Kitemarks and CE markings. Kitemarks are symbols that show products
have been tested and meet the British Standard Institute requirements. CE markings show that
products meet European standards as set out by the European Community. Children also need to
communicate and socialise with their peers, children from other age groups and other adults. They
need to feel safe and secure in their environment so that they feel able to speak to adults about any
concerns they may have, or to ask questions and seek help without fear of embarrassment. They need
good role models who can help them extend their decision making skills and develop independence
appropriate to their age and development level. Practitioners have a further responsibility to provide
additional support to children who may have special educational needs. This may be through
individual sessions within the school, liaison with external services such as educational psychologists
or through the CAF (Common Assessment Framework) process. The CAF process was developed to
gather and assess information in relation to a child s needs in development, parenting and the family
environment. It is a service that should be offered to children (and their families) whose additional
needs are not being met through universal services within the school. Practitioners also need to protect
any children who may be at risk of significant harm because of their home life

Playing Soccer Persuasive Speech
Did you know that soccer is the most popular sport in the world? From playing soccer allows you to
make more friends in school, it stops stress, and you can play soccer in your own backyard. These are
the exciting things about soccer. Come along with me and I will show you why all kids should play
soccer. One reason all kids should play soccer is that you can make more friends and great memories.
For example, l was on the same soccer team as this kid named, Carmine, because we were on the same
team we are now friends. These are just great things that soccer can do for you. I remember when l
when l scored a goal playing against my cousin Michael. l scored a goal in a one versus one games in
their basement and that made me and my cousin kinder to each other. Additionally, when you score
you make more friends. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, l did well. Playing soccer made me forget about the test and I got a 90. In addition, soccer
relaxes you if your parents yell at you. When feel sad, you can think about winning in soccer and it
will make you happy.
The third reason all kids should play soccer is that you can play soccer anywhere. Before i brought
Carmine and Jesse to iplay america, we had a little soccer game in my backyard. For instance, you
could play soccer in you house all you need is a ball and a friend. In addition you can make your own
soccer field in your backyard. For example we play soccer in my play room. This show how great
soccer is and why all kids should play soccer.
Some bad information, I am surprised at is that 10 kids think not all kids should play soccer and only 6
kids in my class think all kids should play soccer. l think that all kids should play soccer. This shows
why all kids should play soccer. All kids should play soccer because you can make new friends and
memorise, you can play anywhere, and soccer is not stressful. Now get out there and play some

Imperialism In The Congo
During 1884 through 1906 the Congo was the personal property of King Leopold II and from 1908 to
1960, it was under Belgian rule. Throughout this time, the Congo was ruled with the political form of
government known as Imperialism. An imperialistic government would extend its power through
military force and the new land. Imperialism in the Congo created unsuccessful resistance movements
as well as long term economic impacts to the country.
The Congo, a country in Central Africa began to be colonized by Europeans in 1876. Many Europeans
began to explore the interior of Africa. After these explorers, religious missionaries followed, who

Today, the Congo is an undeveloped, poor, and corrupt country. The life expectancy is around 43 years
due to the lack of protection and unhealthy living conditions. According to The World Bank, around
64 percent of the whole population is living in poverty. In fact, it is the seventh poorest country in the
world, just below Madagascar, as well as being the third least developed country under Cape Verde
(Nations Online). This is because The Republic of the Congo still struggles with their economy due to
its historical inability to form on its own (Mckinley). After the Congo was finally able to gain
independence from Belgium, they were unable to keep strong markets. This inevitably led to an
increase of poverty. Additionally, a country s GDP (gross domestic product) per capita can determine
how well a country is doing economically. The GDP per capita is calculated by dividing total gross
domestic product by the total population in the country. Today, the Democratic Republic of the Congo
has a GDP per capita of 484.21 USD. This is relatively low compared to other countries; for example,
the United States of America s GDP per capita is around 53,041.98 USD (World Bank). After Belgium
granted the Congolese independence, years of being under Belgian control resulted in an inhibition to
develop. The African country were not yet ready for independence (Scheyven). Their monarchy was

Philosophical Travel Journal
I am writing this journal with the goal of recounting my travels to different philosophical societies.
Remarkably, each one of the three societies I was privileged enough to travel to r igidly followed a
renowned philosophy. These were the philosophies of Plato, Soren Kierkegaard, and Friedrich
Nietzsche.
The Republic
The first society I visited was that of Plato
s philosophy. The residents were very kind and sought out true meanings of different vi rtues solely by
dialectic. They structured their city much the same way that
Plato structured the renowned
Republic
. Plato said that a just city would involve each man doing his own work, or specializing in a certain
task. The cobbler would be a cobbler, the builder would be a builder, the farmer a farmer, and so on an
d so forth. Each of these focused on his work and in such a way maximized outpu t, as is logical. The
army protecting that city stood as a c ourageous wall around it, ready to defend it whenever necessary.
The soldiers
training was intense, focusing not only on physical exercise but also on the arts. By being brought up
with training both in the arts and in physical exercise,
Plato believed t hese soldiers would be both courageous and wise. Indeed, they were. The city was
very confident in its guardians, knowing full well that should war be declared, it would be re solved

Essay On The Best Evidence Based Nursing Practice In...
What is the best evidence based nursing practice in attempting to reduce (VAP) ventilated associated
pneumonia? I decided to do an evidence based paper on VAP after talking to respiratory therapy on the
sixth floor of Chippenham hospital during my clinical studies. I have a friend who has spent many
years as a RN in the critical care unit and has seen the effects of different methods in reducing VAP
first hand. This is a nursing intervention and the sole responsibility of the nurse. I can t think of a
better topic to research considering I am in my first semester of nursing school. I am very excited to
share what I have found. I have found a large amount of information on different methods to reduce
VAP but have decided on three to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the Annals of Internal Medicine 08/17/2004 article, keeping the HOB elevated between
30 and 45 degrees reduced the rate of VAP by 27% in a study from May 1, 2004 until July 31, 2004 in
275 patients. This article is only showing one source of a study at one hospital; however, in my
research I have found that this method is recommended by doctors and nurses seeming to be a very
effective measure in reducing the incidence of VAP combined with other methods. (American College
of Physicians, August 2006) The Annals of Internal Medicine was established in 1927 by the
American College of Physicians (ACP), Annals of Internal Medicine is the premier internal medicine
journal. Our 2009 impact factor of 16.2 makes the Annals of Internal Medicine one of the most cited
general medical journals in the world. Materials published in Annals are peer reviewed. Oral care
plays a vital role in reducing VAP. Effective oral care starts with the assessment of the patient s mouth
and acts as measure for needs for each patient. There have been studies performed using different
solutions including chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) as an oral care agent to reduce VAP. A test study
was done using 101 patients 51 patients being the control group (using pink mouth swabs and
traditional methods of oral care) and 49 patients being the tested group (using chlorhexidine gluconate
at a minimum two times per day) VAP

Viral Genetic Variation Lab Analysis
Title: Viral Genetic Variation Accounts for a Third of Variability in 1 Set Point Viral Load
Introduction: The extent to the pathogenesis of the human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV 1), or HIV
, has been studied for years. It is of large consensus to the medical community that any strong
predictor of the time showing phenotypic characteristics of HIV from the original transmission of the
disease can be predicted through assessing and evaluating the set point viral load (SPVL). Depending
on the subsequent viremia in the blood, biologists and medical professionals can strongly predict the
severity of the infection and future clinical outcomes.
The severity of SPVL is strongly associated with the genotype of the virus and its heritability ... Show

Researchers used a large data set of HIV genome sequences of over 2028 selected participants in the
study. Cohorts were broken down by age, sex, and mode of transmission. Using the data results, the
heritability of SPLV was calculated using common methods, which included the Brownian motion
model, parametric bootstrapping, and the OU model.
Results: Based on the SPLV of the sample size used for the study, it was determined that there is a
strong correlation between viremia and the genetic makeup of the virus with viral loads ranging from
20% to 30% with the cohorts in the study. Thus, up to 30% of the variation in viral load is explained
by the viral genetic variation. When looking at the cohorts CD4 (cells that the HIV virus kills), the
heritability cell count is 11%. This result shows that this percentage is determined by the virus s
genotype.
In addition, the hypothesis that inconsistencies of the varying heterogeneity of SPLV in different
studies were a result of differences in viral genetics, differences in the host s genetics, and calculation
error as a result of incorrect methods were examined. After an assessment of the results of the study,
and the different methods uses, it can be determined that the difference in SPLV heritability is not a
direct result of genetic differences between large populations. On the contrast, it was confirmed that
there is a significant variability in viral load of an

Macbeth Historical Context
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth the male characters Macbeth, Macduff, Banquo and Duncan really
give you and insight in to the time the play was written. Shakespeare s Macbeth was written in the
Elizabethan era during King James reign as King over 400 years ago.
King Duncan is introduced to the play in act 1 scene 2. King Duncan is seen as a great, noble, highly
thought of King. He is in The Monarch which is the highest in the social order.
Go pronounce his present death,
And with his former title greet Macbeth. This quote conveys the power King Duncan has and the price
you have to pay for committing reason. King Duncan also thought highly of Macbeth and Banquo and

Scotland into the ground.
Make all our trumpets speak give them all breath,
Those clamorous harbingers of blood and death! In this era wars happened quite often because of a
disagreement or problems with a country.
Macbeth is a true example of a tragic hero. At the beginning of the play Macbeth is seen a noble,
brave, great thane and part of The Nobility. In the play the witches played a major part of Macbeth s
downfall. Speak if you can: what are you? This quote is the first encounter has with the witches. King
James was very interested in the supernatural and even wrote about it. Shakespeare may have put
aspects of the supernatural in the pay to keep the King intrigued.
Once Macbeth starts to have murderous thoughts he says this very famous quote;
Stars hide your fires,
Let not light see my black and deep desires.
In the play it emphasises that every evil happened in darkness. Elizabethans also believed in this. I

Criticism Of Cultural Criticism
Everything that points to cultural studies or criticism portrays it as a complex theory which derives its
strength from an uncanny sense of incertitude, as it covers a wide expanse of the areas of literary
criticism. To begin with, a basic understanding is quite appropriate. It is this kind of complexity in
question that caused Angela McRobbie to talk of the messiness of cultural studies (722). By this is
meant, most probably, that its roots are too deeply convoluted and intertwined in a single woof with
other theories.
Beginning on the level of definition, Bennet writes that, Cultural Studies has been defined as an
interdisciplinary endeavour concerned with the analysis of cultural forms and activities in the context
of the relations of power which condition their production, circulation, deployment and, of course,
effects (60). Cultural criticism, in essence, has more to do with literature and its subtle projections of
society. Also, the complexity and flexibility of this framework accords the opportunity to glide from
one theory of relevance to another without exactly straying away totally, since cultural criticism has
established relationships with a myriad of other theoretical frameworks. It is for this reason that Jarvis
purports: In addition to appearing in a variety of subject areas, cultural studies is also associated with a
wide range of critical theories that includes Marxism and feminism, postcolonialism and
psychoanalysis, structuralism and

The Teachings Of Buddhism And Buddhism
Buddhism is among one of the ancient religions that emerged in the early 4th and 6th century. The
religion differs in many aspects with other religions, especially due to its emphatic teaching in the way
of life in the society. The teachings of Buddhism religion, originated from that ideas presented by
Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha Gautama was known by many of his followers as Buddha. The name
Buddha was used to mean the Awakened One (Yeh, 92). His definition among the natives of the
Eastern Indian, which is where he started his philosophical teachings, emphasized that the only way
that social beings could relieve themselves from the chains of ignorance was through understanding of
the truth. As a result, everybody would be conscious of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Buddhists, it is impossible for men. Gautama continued his teachings on self actualization through
the Four Immeasurable, the Four Noble Folds, the Five Precepts and the Noble Eightfold Path (About
Buddhism).
The guiding belief that defines the Buddhists way of good life is that a self conscious person, free of
ignorance character will never be haunted by the evils of desire and ignorance and will remain
awakened to brace life. That principle of the Buddha could be associated with a human being s way of
life and reasoning. Regardless of our religious doctrines, Gautama s teachings explain the basic
characters that every living being should embrace and put in practice in order to understand life.
Various religious experts and philosophers have developed various notions and opinions about the
teachings of Gautama. For instance, Christian believers differ with Buddha s definition of rebirth as a
continuous process and dynamic change in every human being. On the contrary, Christians believe in
life after birth as the start of rebirth and eternity.
With such divergent developments, people have been left to wonder, are Buddhism teachings the
explanation to the reality of life, and has it directly influenced how people live regardless of their
affiliated religions? The question would face divergence of opinions; however, Gautama s advocacy
on self meditation could be the defining path to link

Global Warming as a Business Risk
Global warming has negative effects on industries. This means that this phenomenon should be
considered as forming part of the social and environmental risks that business firms needs to consider
in developing their business strategies. If not, businesses would find themselves unprepared for the
possible effects of global warming on their operations, profitability and even viability. In the case of
the tourism industry, tourism businesses would not be prepared to address the actualization of
problems caused by global warming if these firms do not understand the impact of this phenomenon
and include preventive plans and alternative solutions in case these effects are actualized. This is to
ensure the viability of tourism businesses or if not the shift in business strategy of these firms to adjust
to the market and industry changes brought about by the manifestations of global warming. Risk is the
probability that a particular adverse event occurs during a stated period of time, or results from a
particular challenge (1995, ). This could also

The Double Bunny Pike Fly is an extremely effective fly for northern pike. There are many different
colour and tying variations of the bunny leech. This style in the color red works well in my part of the

materials I use for my double bunny pike fly. Comparable materials can be used but the action may
vary. 2) Secure your hook in the vice and tie in your red thred. Wrapping the full length of the hook
shank will create some friction on the lead wire and other material and keep it from moving on the
shank. A large hook with a wide gap is a necessity for the large pike mouth. 3) Coil on your Lead wire

entertainment. There should be a balanced diet for the young people between entertainment use and
educational use. It is also important to limit multitasking while studying. Multitasking is not helpful at

An email or a text message can cause a block in my brain that doesn t let me focus. Sometimes when I
am reading and I receive an email, I have to go back and read the chapter from beginning because I
lose attention. Therefore, I feel the article is correct that there should be a limit on multitasking while
studying. In addition, many people nowadays find it helpful to listen to music while reading or doing
homework because it can relax the brain. Although, they might find it helpful, I completely do not
agree that this is helpful for the brain. Multitasking can cause the brain to overload. Kids should
challenge themselves to stay away from multitasking. One example is my cousin who loves to read
while listening to music. Before he went to eleventh grade in high school, he had a simple phone.
When he went to eleventh grade his parents bought him an iPhone for his birthday. From then on he
started listening to music with headsets while reading or doing homework at home. He didn t notice
that the music was preventing him staying focused. When the grading period ended his parents noticed
that his grades dropped drastically. Soon enough his parents took away his phone and he started doing
well in school again. This is also shown in the article that multitasking is not helpful at all. In
conclusion, electronic devices used for entertainment should be limited in today s society. People
should start to have a diet in their digital technology use.

effect of the writer s context on your understanding of The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum.
As a writer of fiction Böll was interpreting history, creating patterns of meaning, ordering his material

events have been influential on the content and themes of Böll s novel, The Lost Honour of Katharina

Katharina has based her life upon such as carefully saving up enough money to buy an apartment and
a car. Anyone who offered resistance to the dominant hegemonic structures in society was viewed with
suspicion and claimed to be a communist. The only result for Blorna was that, at the conclusion of his
inquiries in the village, he was himself described, if not precisely abused, as a Communist The press

communism would benefit a capitalist society. Brettloh makes the statement,
That s how false ideas about socialism are bound to end. I ask you and your readers: How does a

Battle Of Midway Essay
Define the Battle (who, when, where) On June 4, 1942, only six months after the Japanese attack on
Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the United States defeated Japan throughout a 4 day battle (until
June 7) in one of the most decisive naval battles of World War II. This battle s location was primarily
the island of Midway Atoll, which is roughly 1,300 miles northwest of Oahu, Hawaii. Recognitions in

automatically. Additionally, the system does not function as a well integrated network of elements that
complement each other, instead a fragmented structure is currently in place.

In 2009, the Children s Health Insurance Program
Reauthorization (CHIPRA) was approved by Congress and signed by President Obama. The
reauthorization expanded funding for children s coverage by $33 billion in federal funds over a
4.5 year period through 2013 and the ACA extended federal funding of CHIP through September
2015 (Raphael Giardino, 2015).
Additionally, in January 2014, the ACA legally requires insurers to cover individuals with preexisting
conditions and required the companies to charge everyone in the same plan the same rate (Hass,
2013). According to Shi and Singh (2015), prior to 2009 individuals with preexisting health conditions
could not easily obtain health insurance in the individual health insurance market. Specifically,
individuals were either denied coverage or could not afford what was available to them.
The quality of care that is provided to patients is among one of the biggest focal points in regards to
US healthcare systems. Healthcare organizations are being held accountable for the quality of the care
that is provided to their patents. Additionally, due to the fact that there are penalties related to poor
performance as a result of changes set forth through the ACA, organizations are utilizing different

The Power of the Moral Ideal in The Fountainhead Essay
The Power of the Moral Ideal in The Fountainhead
The Fountainhead is a novel of gigantic proportions. It deals with great talent and great mediocrity,
with great love and great hatred, with great ambition and equally great complacence. It
unpretentiously chooses to steer clear of the much hyped common man, with his commonplace dreams
and aspirations.
The theme of The Fountainhead can be summarized in the famous line by the author man s ego is the
fountainhead of human progress . The novel exalts egotism, which is generally looked upon in our
world with great dislike. The protagonist, Howard Roark, is a man used by the author to exemplify
this philosophy. He is a man of outstanding genius whose only fault seems to be ... Show more content

Roark is a man who lives up to the word man . He believes that man alone has power over himself He
does not believe in God or in destiny, simple because he doesn t need to. In order to be truly great a
man must be physically, mentally and spiritually be involved in his work, the way Roark was. Roark
treats his work with the respect and reverence that other men lavish over God. To him, insincerity
towards one s work is the worst blasphemy possible. This is the line of thought that runs throughout
the novel.
The hallmark of Roark is work is his complete irreverence for all precedents, traditions and
conventions. His ideas are too revolutionary to be accepted, but he refuses, at any point of time to
compromise with his ideals, no matter what his compulsions may be. He is a man of such immense
integrity, that he would rather break stones in a quarry than make a substandard building. which is
what the world demands of him.
The reason why some people seek to destroy Howard Roark is that his very presence evokes an
unreasonable fear in their hearts. This quest to destroy the genius within him started from the very
beginning of his career when he was expelled from The Stanton institute of Technology, where he had
been studying architecture. All his teachers except his mathematics professor were against him

The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge Essay
Indeed, not all external knowledge may be easily used and transformed into new artefacts. If external
knowledge is easily accessible, transformable into new artefacts and exposed to many actors (such as
customers and suppliers), then innovative entry may take place (Winter, 1984). On the contrary, if
advanced integration capabilities are necessary (Cohen and Levinthal, 1989), the industry may be
concentrated and formed of large established firms. Third, the domain relates to the degree of
accessibility of knowledge (Malerba and Orsenigo,
2000), i.e. opportunities of gaining knowledge that are external to firms. Knowledge that is accessible
may be internal or external to the sector. In both cases, greater accessibility of knowledge ... Show

Bason stresses that when it comes to their development efforts, public sector organisation seem to
spend 80 per cent of their energies on understanding the past and (at best) managing the present, and
perhaps only 20 per cent of their efforts on systematically exploring future directions for better
policies and services (p. 19).
Therefore, the best way for somebody s development is adequate, timely and inspiring feedback.
Alternatively, an important influence is to give somebody also a new and more ambitious task, which
requires more effort and external knowledge accruing. And finally, a classical and formal schooling,
carefully planned and executed, is also important.
As seen, the key component of a high performance organisation is a dynamic learning mode. A
learning organisation places a premium on innovation, risk taking, training, the right tools,
communication, and measurement (Hale, 1996). Senge (1990b: 7) quoted W. Edwards Deming s belief
that we have been systematically destroying the very attributes needed by a high performance
organisation: People are born with intrinsic motivation, self esteem, dignity, curiosity to learn, joy in
learning. The forces of destruction begin with toddlers a price for the best Halloween costume, grades
in school, gold stars, and on up through the university.
On the job, people, teams, divisions are ranked reward for one at the top, punishing at the bottom.

Life Changing Events Essay
Life changing events can sometimes be difficult. In the stories I Never Had it Made, By Jackie

Melba Beals and Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier by playing on a white ball team and going to
a white school as blacks.
Melba Beals was one of the Little Rock Nine to go to a white school as a black. When Melba and the
little rock nine first tried to go in the school segregation mobs had forbidden them to go. As Beals said
in the text I saw them about fifty uniformed soldiers of the 101st. This shows that just because they
did not make it in the first time they will make it in the second time. Despite all of the time they
wasted and still could not get in, they still went back every day until they were led in by soldiers. But
the main people who gave support to them are their parents and neighbors and also the ministers of
their church. As said in the text I recognized neighbors and even ministers from our church. (Beals)
This shows that they have plenty support as they walk up the steps of the school and enter the school.

According to Pinel (2013), medial temporal lobe amnesia is amnesia or loss of memory that is
associated with bilateral damage to the medial temporal lobes (p.478). H.M. s case was revolutionary
to the study of human memory. Prior to H.M. s surgery, it was shown that the removal of one medial
temporal lobe was effective treatment for patients with a unilateral temporal lobe focus. H.M. suffered

proposed that the H.M. s convulsions originated from the center of the medial portions of both his left

The action packed movie King Arthur: Legend of the Sword directed by Guy Ritchie, also directed

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is an exhilarating movie which always has you sat on the edge of
your seat as the movie is so intense and action packed as it always has something going on whether it
be a fight scene or Arthur being told something about his father and his family. King Arthur was a

There were some points in the movie when it got confusing such as when King Vortigern made a deal
with 3 creatures under his castle where the King has to sacrifice a loved one to become powerful yet
the story does not reveal who these creatures are and how they are able to give the King such power.
Not even the mage who fights to help Arthur become king tells us who is making Vortigern so
powerful.
My favourite scene in the movie is the montage of Arthur growing up as a child it shows him being
taken into care in the tavern and making friends, learning how to fight then going to adult life when he
works and steals for money and will do anything to help his friends and family who helped him since
he was a child, along with the music with the sped up scene it goes well together and shows the
viewers that Arthur has a nightmare every night about his father dying although he cannot remember
exactly what happened. It shows what type of person he is when the montage of him growing up
shows him storing away money in boxes behind a wall, no one knows why he was saving all this

Why Is Paul Mccartney Dead
Is Paul McCartney dead? That is the question. Paul McCartney, the bassist for the Beatles, continues

away in a tragic car accident back in 1966, before Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was
organized. Some Beatlemaniacs struggle with this Paul is Dead theory to this day. So, is Paul dead?
This conspiracy theory was well explained by allthatsinteresting.com. They explained:
In 1966 Paul McCartney was in a fatal car crash. But the band must go on, so the remaining members
of the Beatles covered up his death by hiring a replacement. Still, known for their witticism and being

member, denied the existence of clues hidden in one of their primary albums Sargent Pepper s Lonely
Hearts Club Band . According to Time Inc., in Sargent Pepper there are lyrics throughout the point to
Paul s death including He blew his mind out in a car and Paul is dead, miss him, miss him. Some of
these lyrics were, according to believers in the myth, audible backwards or just barely, regardless of
both Lennon and McCartney denying it. If just words from the mouth of Paul and the other band
members aren t enough, there is no proof from insurance or legal authorities about a car accident
involving Paul in 1966. One occurred the next year with his car but he wasn t even in the vehicle and

Viking Impact On Northern England
The term Viking is essentially defined as a person who lurks in a vik or bay. The name Viking was
given to those of a Scandinavian race, who became known for their raids and settlements of Europe
between the years of 700 and 1100. Stereotypically, Vikings are habitually referred to or regarded as
barbarians, heathens and savage north men with no concept of Christian integrity, they were
considered as lacking reputable mannerisms and their presence in England was that of a punishment
by the Lord himself. In this essay I will be exploring the Vikings impact on the history and identity of
Northern England. It is significant to note that the modern perception of what is Northern England
differs to that of the Northern England during the era of Scandinavian raids, and that the amount of

Devil Facial Tumour Disease Case Study
Introduction: What is Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease?
 Identified in 1996 the Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) is the growth of fatal
tumours on the faces of Tasmanian Devils (Sarcophilus harrisii), specifically the mouth and teeth.
(Hamede RK, McCallum H Jones M, 2013)
 Affecting the largest carnivorous marsupial alive (Beeton N McCallum H, 2011) the tumour cells
are transmitted through the biting of one Devil to another either in attack to access food first, or
predominantly as part of mating. (Grueber CE et al. 2015)

Genetic Research on the Histocompatibility Complex and Telomeres
The DFTD tumour is accepted to be clonal, originating from a single Schwann cell that did not dye in
the Devil it first infected rather spreading through the species. (Grueber CE et.al 2015)
The Histocompatibility Complex genome is important for an organism to distinguish its own cells
from foreign cells, yet Tasmanian Devils have a variation in this gene resulting in the tumour cell
going unidentified by the body. (Siddle H et.al 2012)
Finding a way to restore the function of the Histocompatibility Complex genome so that it can activate
antibodies such as β2 microglobulin (β2 m) to kill the tumour should be an area focused on because it
can then be introduced into one infected Devil that can bite others and so the genome is passed on.
(Siddle H et.al 2012)
The DFTD tumour cells also have chromosomes that have been protected from misshaping by strong
Telomere and Shelterin compounds that should worn of long ago due to a lot of DNA replication.
(Grueber CE et al. 2015)
Targeting these Telomere/Shelterin compounds may be useful to suppress the tumour cells, killing it

Cupcake Stands
Making a cupcake stand by yourself is not hard at all. They can be made from cardboard, plastic,
metal, or glass. Cardboard DIY cupcakes stands are probably the easiest and quickest to make so that
is the style we will use for this example. First, you must decide how many tiers you want for your
cupcake stand and decide what shape you would like them to be. Stands with circular tiers are very
common so we will use that as an example. Building your stand with, say, five tiers will require five
different size cardboard circles, with the largest circle at the base of the cupcake stand and the smallest
circle at the top. It s important to know that each tiers base should be small enough compared to the
next tier lower to allow the cupcakes enough room to sit on the ledge without their tops being
squashed by the next tier higher. Two inches should be sufficient, making each succeeding tier four

Stereotyping In The Media
How often do we find ourselves laughing at an inappropriate stereotype that is promoted in the media?
It seems that as we continue to move through time, stereotypes in the media become more and more
prominent. Some find them as forms of comic relief while others, including myself, see them as
another way to showcase our ignorance of the people and world around us. The stereotype that
revolves around Indians, also known as South Asians, tends to be the most recognizable. In order to

In the beginning, the stereotypes developed were seen as acceptable because they represented Indians.
As we move through time, they have become over exaggerated and unacceptable. The stereotypes
have been pushed to an unbelievable limit and they stopped coming off as funny to Indians. Since
these stereotypes were created, the Indian community has outgrown them and no longer sees them as
accurate representation. Pari Mathur explains in his article titles Who I Was and Who I Want to Be
Indian Americans in Media that unfortunately, the media s preconceived idea of Indians makes it
difficult for society to look at Indians and not see just a dude who bobbles his head with a mustache,
because that s what they ve seen on TV (Mathur, 2013). After speaking with my close friend, Shobin
Shanko, a first generation Indian American, he explains that in comparison to other stereotypes, they
are moving away from the stereotypical ways that they were portrayed back in the day versus Indian
and Asian stereotypes are still very prevalent (Shanko, 2016). In order to change how society views
Indians in the media, it is up to the Indian community to begin breaking down the stereotypes. The
breakdown of stereotypes has begun in more recent years. Actors, specifically Indian actors, have
worked to fix these stereotypes. In the show

Personality In Jodi Picoult s Nineteen Minutes
A person s image is one of the most important social aspects from day one. It will decide a person s
friends, career, and level of success. Personality is a fluid aspect that ties a person s image together. A
person s personality or image will change with company. In Nineteen Minutes, Jodi Picoult presents a
motif of public vs. private self through many of her characters to show that things are not always how
they seem and to make the reader evaluate who they are as a person. Humans need social interaction
to flourish and they tend to select a few people to become closest with. They share secrets, gossip
about others, and support each other in times of need, but how well can someone really know another
person? In Nineteen Minutes the reader watches Josie Cormier get ready for school, hiding her private
personality away for the day. Either Josie was someone she didn t want to be, or she was someone
who nobody wanted (Picoult 8). To all of Josie s classmates, friends, teachers, and even her own
mother she seems like the perfect child. Josie hangs out with the right crowd, gets great grades, and
follows all of society s rules perfectly, but no one really knows who she is. Behind the mask perfection
Josie is just another teenager struggling with depression and identity issues. The author chooses to
make the most popular girl in school also one of the most depressed to show that although things may
seem beautiful on the outside, they can be rotting from the inside. Picoult is proving how that easy it is
for people to hide their personalities to the world.
Additionally, Josie is in one of the most popular relationships at her high school. Everybody praised
her beautiful relationship with Matt but it s all just another façade. Throughout most of part one the
author builds sympathy for Matt and Josie because the boy who seems to be a loving boyfriend was
murdered, but later the truth becomes clear, The smile faded from Josie s face. When I told you I
slipped on the ice. Matt and I were having a fight and he hit me (Picoult 239). Even the most perfect
people have secrets they are hiding. Matt seemed like he truly loved Josie but it is clear that he is just

The Harlem Renaissance Of The 1920s
Hues are properties of light by which colors of objects are classified in reference to the spectrum. As
people, we decide what hue is intriguing, how it makes us feel, and unfortunately how it makes us
different. We are calmed by the blueness of water, and we are awakened by the yellowness of the sun.
It was not until the evil intentions of slavery crossed mankind s thoughts that hue became our
downfall, our separator. White supremacy eroded the idea of equality, and darker hues began to
symbolize worthlessness, inferiority, and ugliness. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s evoked the
idea of black consciousness and pride. It was a movement established to express black literature, art,
music, and culture. Blacks began to wear their dark hue like a badge of honor. Art, literature, and
music became the centerpieces of black expression and culture. Blacks began to see themselves as
equals in their quest for status, fame, and acceptance from Whites. However, racism was still
abundant, lynches still occurred, and Blacks were still just as inferior as before. To make matters
worse, segregation still existed, but the color line was not only a separation of black and white; it
became a separation of black and black. Artist associated with the Harlem Renaissance, such as Zora
Neale Hurston, James Weldon Johnson, Claude McKay, and Jessie Fauset, often told stories of the

Abstract . The Past Year Election Was One Of The Most...
Abstract The past year election was one of the most controversial elections I have seen. Even the polls
got the winner wrong. Since I have been in this country I have never seen a poll prediction that has
been so far off even the day of the election. In the next couple of pages an attempt to explain what
went so wrong with the polls. From the new era of cellphones, to hidden voters who lied to the
pollsters. To them not counting uneducated voters because they are less likely to vote. Three lessons
that we learned this past election and one of the most important to me is to remember that predicting
the future is very hard. That no one can have 100% prediction.

Pollsters underestimated the amount of Trump hidden votes. The number of people who were
undecided at the time of election day and then decided to vote for Trump. Some of them were not even
aware of their preference until election day.
Cell phones
Prior to cell phones, technology was less advanced meaning people still owned landlines. Landlines
were more accessible; pollsters just had to go to a phone book look at the number and call. They also
set a specific demographic on what county or region would vote for who. Allowing them to also have
a more accurate and random sample pulling. However, when cell phones came into play, they do not
allow to have much of an accurate or random pulling anymore. One of the problems with cell phones
is region. People move homes, with cell phones they can keep their number even if they move from
one state to another. Giving the pollsters wrong data on region or county. Let s say someone from
Miami moves to Frt. Lauderdale, they can keep their area code number, making it bias for the
pollsters.
Another issue with cell phones is that many of us like to keep our information private. Unlike
landlines, there is no phonebook to get the numbers from. Per Vann R. Newkirk II other online

My interest in Biomedical Science came in a school run extended project scheme in which I devised a
study of genetic modification of the human body. I found that I was fascinated by whether the survival
of an organism was based on one s genome or one s environment. For example, I did research on
Michael Phelps, an eight time olympic gold medalist, who has said to have genetic advantages over
other olympic athletes. For instance, he is double jointed in the chest which enables him to extend his
arms higher above his head and pull down at an angle that increases his efficiency through the water

Analysis Of John Vargas The Tenth Mile
Real: A Review of John Vargas The Tenth Mile
In action pictures, there was no virtuous side to identify with and nobody you really felt very good
about cheering for. (Kael 113) This forty two year old remark is still true for at least half of present
day action movies; the remaining ones are either about good triumphing over evil or about dopey loser
unlocking inner genius. These movies usually (and perhaps unavoidably) involve vendettas too bad to
be true or masters too good to be true. While I openly distain their outright unreality and secretly savor
their gripping intensity, I am aware of a hope, an expectation, a desire, deep in my heart, awaiting
something with both stylish actions and a realistic plot. The Tenth Mile perfectly fits that blank space.
Born in America and raised in six different countries, the young avant garde director John Vargas set
out to produce something different. And he did it. The story seems incredibly real and resonates well
with us normal people partly because Vargas based the story largely on his own experience living and
learning martial arts in different countries. There is no dark, dread, dangerous gang leader, nor old,
white, near divine grandmaster. The protagonist Pete Harkin, played by the action movie icon Mason
Grey, is no more than an avid lover of martial arts. Anyone can be Pete. Anyone can learn martial arts.
Convinced by his very first western boxing master of the Nine Miles to becoming a real martial artist,
Pete goes

  • 2. Pre Colonial America Summary Pre Modern Colonial America In The Radicalism of the American Revolution, Gordan S. Wood creates an in depth analysis of why colonial America could be classified as a pre modern society. He presents a thorough argument for how hierarchal trends and patriarchal dependency of the colonists emphasized the more traditional culture of the early Americans. The colonists had created a society in which there was a deep prevalence for British customs, such as, reverence for the king, the inheritance of land and status, the strength of a household, and the importance of rank (Wood 12, 16, 46, 18). Before the revolution, America resembled its native England; once they had severed ties and moved forward with their own form of government with confidence, pre modern America initiated the first steps to become a truly independent and modern nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By building up their family trees, colonial Americans were able to use their kinship as an advantage in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, the manipulation of politics (Wood 48). This was due to the patriarchal dependency of most of the citizens; in colonial America the familial household was the center of society and the strength of it. The patriarchal tradition of the society creates a system in which the institutions mimic households; that created a society that was dependent on a head because no man was independent in and of himself ... Advances are strongest in the Asia/Pacific region due to on going rapid industrialization as well as rising car ownership rates. Both of these trends will also favor healthy growth in the Africa/Mideast region and Latin America. Meanwhile, the greater availability of advanced, high performance lubricants, greater global competition and increasingly stringent environmental rules result in reduced or negative growth in lubricant demand in the more developed countries of North America and Western Europe, as well as in Eastern Europe and Japan. While children are at school, practitioners act in loco parentis while their parents are away. As part of their legal and professional obligations, practitioners hold positions of trust and a duty of care to the children in their school, and therefore should always act in their best interests and ensure their safety the welfare of the child is paramount (Children Act 1989). Imperialism in the Congo created unsuccessful resistance movements as well as long term economic impacts to the country. In fact, it is the seventh poorest country in the world, just below Madagascar, as well as being the third least developed country under Cape Verde (Nations Online). This is because The Republic of the Congo still struggles with their economy due to its historical inability to form on its own (Mckinley). After the Congo was finally able to gain independence from Belgium, they were unable to keep strong markets. This inevitably led to an increase of poverty. Additionally, a country s GDP (gross domestic product) per capita can determine how well a country is doing economically. The GDP per capita is calculated by dividing total gross domestic product by the total population in the country. Today, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has a GDP per capita of 484.21 USD. This is relatively low compared to other countries; for example, the United States of America s GDP per capita is around 53,041.98 USD (World Bank). P hilosophical Travel Journal 1 W C Patten PHL2 71 February 23, 2015 Philosophical Travel Journal I am writing this journal with the goal of recounting my travels to different philosophical societies. Remarkably, each one of the three societies I was privileged enough to travel to r igidly followed a renowned philosophy. These were the philosophies of Plato, Soren Kierkegaard, and Friedrich Nietzsche. The Republic The first society I visited was that of Plato s philosophy. The residents were very kind and sought out true meanings of different vi rtues solely by dialectic. They structured their city much the same way that Plato structured the renowned Republic . Plato said that a just city would involve each man doing his own work, or specializing in a certain task. The cobbler would be a cobbler, the builder would be a builder, the farmer a farmer, and so on an d so forth. Each of these focused on his work and in such a way maximized outpu t, as is logical. The army protecting that city stood as a c ourageous wall around it, ready to defend it whenever necessary. The soldiers training was intense, focusing not only on physical exercise but also on the arts. By being brought up with training both in the arts and in physical exercise, Plato believed t hese soldiers would be both courageous and wise. Indeed, they were. This is a nursing intervention and the sole responsibility of the nurse. I can t think of a better topic to research considering I am in my first semester of nursing school. This article is only showing one source of a study at one hospital; however, in my research I have found that this method is recommended by doctors and nurses seeming to be a very effective measure in reducing the incidence of VAP combined with other methods. • 10. Viral Genetic Variation Lab Analysis Title: Viral Genetic Variation Accounts for a Third of Variability in 1 Set Point Viral Load Introduction: The extent to the pathogenesis of the human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV 1), or HIV , has been studied for years. It is of large consensus to the medical community that any strong predictor of the time showing phenotypic characteristics of HIV from the original transmission of the disease can be predicted through assessing and evaluating the set point viral load (SPVL). Depending on the subsequent viremia in the blood, biologists and medical professionals can strongly predict the severity of the infection and future clinical outcomes. The severity of SPVL is strongly associated with the genotype of the virus and its heritability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers used a large data set of HIV genome sequences of over 2028 selected participants in the study. Cohorts were broken down by age, sex, and mode of transmission. Using the data results, the heritability of SPLV was calculated using common methods, which included the Brownian motion model, parametric bootstrapping, and the OU model. Results: Based on the SPLV of the sample size used for the study, it was determined that there is a strong correlation between viremia and the genetic makeup of the virus with viral loads ranging from 20% to 30% with the cohorts in the study. Thus, up to 30% of the variation in viral load is explained by the viral genetic variation. When looking at the cohorts CD4 (cells that the HIV virus kills), the heritability cell count is 11%. This result shows that this percentage is determined by the virus s genotype. In addition, the hypothesis that inconsistencies of the varying heterogeneity of SPLV in different studies were a result of differences in viral genetics, differences in the host s genetics, and calculation error as a result of incorrect methods were examined. After an assessment of the results of the study, and the different methods uses, it can be determined that the difference in SPLV heritability is not a direct result of genetic differences between large populations. On the contrast, it was confirmed that there is a significant variability in viral load of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Macbeth is a true example of a tragic hero. At the beginning of the play Macbeth is seen a noble, brave, great thane and part of The Nobility. In the play the witches played a major part of Macbeth s downfall. Speak if you can: what are you? This quote is the first encounter has with the witches. • 12. Criticism Of Cultural Criticism Everything that points to cultural studies or criticism portrays it as a complex theory which derives its strength from an uncanny sense of incertitude, as it covers a wide expanse of the areas of literary criticism. To begin with, a basic understanding is quite appropriate. It is this kind of complexity in question that caused Angela McRobbie to talk of the messiness of cultural studies (722). By this is meant, most probably, that its roots are too deeply convoluted and intertwined in a single woof with other theories. Beginning on the level of definition, Bennet writes that, Cultural Studies has been defined as an interdisciplinary endeavour concerned with the analysis of cultural forms and activities in the context of the relations of power which condition their production, circulation, deployment and, of course, effects (60). Cultural criticism, in essence, has more to do with literature and its subtle projections of society. Also, the complexity and flexibility of this framework accords the opportunity to glide from one theory of relevance to another without exactly straying away totally, since cultural criticism has established relationships with a myriad of other theoretical frameworks. It is for this reason that Jarvis purports: In addition to appearing in a variety of subject areas, cultural studies is also associated with a wide range of critical theories that includes Marxism and feminism, postcolonialism and psychoanalysis, structuralism and ... That principle of the Buddha could be associated with a human being s way of life and reasoning. Regardless of our religious doctrines, Gautama s teachings explain the basic characters that every living being should embrace and put in practice in order to understand life. Various religious experts and philosophers have developed various notions and opinions about the teachings of Gautama. For instance, Christian believers differ with Buddha s definition of rebirth as a continuous process and dynamic change in every human being. On the contrary, Christians believe in life after birth as the start of rebirth and eternity. With such divergent developments, people have been left to wonder, are Buddhism teachings the explanation to the reality of life, and has it directly influenced how people live regardless of their affiliated religions? If external knowledge is easily accessible, transformable into new artefacts and exposed to many actors (such as customers and suppliers), then innovative entry may take place (Winter, 1984). On the contrary, if advanced integration capabilities are necessary (Cohen and Levinthal, 1989), the industry may be concentrated and formed of large established firms. Third, the domain relates to the degree of accessibility of knowledge (Malerba and Orsenigo, 2000), i.e. opportunities of gaining knowledge that are external to firms. It seems that as we continue to move through time, stereotypes in the media become more and more prominent. Some find them as forms of comic relief while others, including myself, see them as another way to showcase our ignorance of the people and world around us. The stereotype that revolves around Indians, also known as South Asians, tends to be the most recognizable. In order to understand this stereotype in the media, we will focus on the typical stereotypes that involve this group of people, why we stereotype against Indians, and ways it effects future generations. What are some of the more popular shows in our media that portray ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning, the stereotypes developed were seen as acceptable because they represented Indians. As we move through time, they have become over exaggerated and unacceptable. The stereotypes have been pushed to an unbelievable limit and they stopped coming off as funny to Indians. Since these stereotypes were created, the Indian community has outgrown them and no longer sees them as accurate representation. Pari Mathur explains in his article titles Who I Was and Who I Want to Be Indian Americans in Media that unfortunately, the media s preconceived idea of Indians makes it difficult for society to look at Indians and not see just a dude who bobbles his head with a mustache, because that s what they ve seen on TV (Mathur, 2013). After speaking with my close friend, Shobin Shanko, a first generation Indian American, he explains that in comparison to other stereotypes, they are moving away from the stereotypical ways that they were portrayed back in the day versus Indian and Asian stereotypes are still very prevalent (Shanko, 2016). In order to change how society views Indians in the media, it is up to the Indian community to begin breaking down the stereotypes. The breakdown of stereotypes has begun in more recent years. Actors, specifically Indian actors, have worked to fix these stereotypes. In the show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Personality In Jodi Picoult s Nineteen Minutes A person s image is one of the most important social aspects from day one. It will decide a person s friends, career, and level of success. Personality is a fluid aspect that ties a person s image together. A person s personality or image will change with company. In Nineteen Minutes, Jodi Picoult presents a motif of public vs. private self through many of her characters to show that things are not always how they seem and to make the reader evaluate who they are as a person. Humans need social interaction to flourish and they tend to select a few people to become closest with. They share secrets, gossip about others, and support each other in times of need, but how well can someone really know another person? In Nineteen Minutes the reader watches Josie Cormier get ready for school, hiding her private personality away for the day. Either Josie was someone she didn t want to be, or she was someone who nobody wanted (Picoult 8). To all of Josie s classmates, friends, teachers, and even her own mother she seems like the perfect child. Josie hangs out with the right crowd, gets great grades, and follows all of society s rules perfectly, but no one really knows who she is. Behind the mask perfection Josie is just another teenager struggling with depression and identity issues. The author chooses to make the most popular girl in school also one of the most depressed to show that although things may seem beautiful on the outside, they can be rotting from the inside. Picoult is proving how that easy it is for people to hide their personalities to the world. Additionally, Josie is in one of the most popular relationships at her high school. Everybody praised her beautiful relationship with Matt but it s all just another façade. Throughout most of part one the author builds sympathy for Matt and Josie because the boy who seems to be a loving boyfriend was murdered, but later the truth becomes clear, The smile faded from Josie s face. When I told you I slipped on the ice. Matt and I were having a fight and he hit me (Picoult 239). Even the most perfect people have secrets they are hiding. • 33. The Harlem Renaissance Of The 1920s Hues are properties of light by which colors of objects are classified in reference to the spectrum. As people, we decide what hue is intriguing, how it makes us feel, and unfortunately how it makes us different. We are calmed by the blueness of water, and we are awakened by the yellowness of the sun. It was not until the evil intentions of slavery crossed mankind s thoughts that hue became our downfall, our separator. White supremacy eroded the idea of equality, and darker hues began to symbolize worthlessness, inferiority, and ugliness. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s evoked the idea of black consciousness and pride. It was a movement established to express black literature, art, music, and culture. Blacks began to wear their dark hue like a badge of honor. Art, literature, and music became the centerpieces of black expression and culture. Blacks began to see themselves as equals in their quest for status, fame, and acceptance from Whites. However, racism was still abundant, lynches still occurred, and Blacks were still just as inferior as before. To make matters worse, segregation still existed, but the color line was not only a separation of black and white; it became a separation of black and black. Artist associated with the Harlem Renaissance, such as Zora Neale Hurston, James Weldon Johnson, Claude McKay, and Jessie Fauset, often told stories of the other with the purpose of gaining the attention of white Americans. • 34. Abstract . The Past Year Election Was One Of The Most... Abstract The past year election was one of the most controversial elections I have seen. Even the polls got the winner wrong. Since I have been in this country I have never seen a poll prediction that has been so far off even the day of the election. In the next couple of pages an attempt to explain what went so wrong with the polls. From the new era of cellphones, to hidden voters who lied to the pollsters. To them not counting uneducated voters because they are less likely to vote. Three lessons that we learned this past election and one of the most important to me is to remember that predicting the future is very hard. That no one can have 100% prediction. What went wrong in 2016? As the night of November 8th, 2016 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pollsters underestimated the amount of Trump hidden votes. The number of people who were undecided at the time of election day and then decided to vote for Trump. Some of them were not even aware of their preference until election day. Cell phones Prior to cell phones, technology was less advanced meaning people still owned landlines. Landlines were more accessible; pollsters just had to go to a phone book look at the number and call. They also set a specific demographic on what county or region would vote for who. Allowing them to also have a more accurate and random sample pulling. However, when cell phones came into play, they do not allow to have much of an accurate or random pulling anymore. One of the problems with cell phones is region. People move homes, with cell phones they can keep their number even if they move from one state to another. Giving the pollsters wrong data on region or county. Let s say someone from Miami moves to Frt. Lauderdale, they can keep their area code number, making it bias for the pollsters. Another issue with cell phones is that many of us like to keep our information private. Unlike landlines, there is no phonebook to get the numbers from. Per Vann R. The country of Cuba has numerous players playing in the MLB even though Cuban citizens are not allowed to leave Cuba without a permit that is very difficult to get. Most young Cuban baseball players are forced to flea the country in order to enter the MLB. These young men have to risk jail time and their lives in hopes of getting a payday in America. After that Joe Cubas, a sports agent, found a loophole in which he had his players establish residency in Dominican Republic for 6 months to establish residency. This way his players avoided the draft and were allowed to sign as free agents. Since Fidel Castro has taken over Cuba over 200 Cuban ballplayers have defected. The way Cuban Ballplayers leave Cuba is often a daunting task. Ballplayers who wish to leave want to play with the best competition and want the million dollar contracts but in order to get them they have to risk everything. Juan Miranda tried escaping Cuba 6 times and had to spend seven days in jail before finally escaping the seventh. I left Cuba for the Dominican Republic. It s an experience that I won t recommend to anybody else, said Miranda who made it by way of raft with 15 to 20 other people and lasted five days. Cubans spend days under the hot sun and cold nights with little to eat or drink. Miranda was rewarded however with a four year $2.7 million deal with the New York Yankees. Yunel Escobar also escaped on a raft with a group of 24 journeying for 2 days. He however landed in Miami instead of the Dominican Republic making him draft eligible. • 36. The Role Of Ritalin In Relation To Drug Abuse Some researchers claim that Ritalin does not lead to drug abuse. Everyone who has taken Ritalin does not use other drugs. Biederman, who is a researcher, conducted a research about Ritalin and the connection to drugs. Biederman stated, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity (ADHD) boys treated with stimulants such as Ritalin are significantly less likely to abuse drugs and alcohol when they are older rather than ADHD boys who are not treated. This evidence proves that Ritalin reduces the possibility of drug abuse later in life. On the other hand, other researchers claim that the addiction of Ritalin has a connection with other drugs. • 38. Biomedical Engineering Personal Statement Homo sapiens are known to be the most advanced creatures on Earth, the number of humans in the world is exponentially increasing to nearly over seven billion as 250 babies are born every minute and with the population increasing by almost 3 people per second. Life relies solely upon the biomedical sciences. It s an area of expertise that is constantly advancing out, therefore to study the convolution of the human body and to contribute to such a field has lead me to apply to Biomedical Sciences at University. My interest in Biomedical Science came in a school run extended project scheme in which I devised a study of genetic modification of the human body. I found that I was fascinated by whether the survival of an organism was based on one s genome or one s environment. For example, I did research on Michael Phelps, an eight time olympic gold medalist, who has said to have genetic advantages over other olympic athletes. For instance, he is double jointed in the chest which enables him to extend his arms higher above his head and pull down at an angle that increases his efficiency through the water by 20% allowing him to make quicker starts and turns. The research gave me an insight of how complex and sublime the inner structures and workings of the human body are, therefore has fuelled my desire to study the physiology of human bodies beyond A Level. ... • 39. Analysis Of John Vargas The Tenth Mile Real: A Review of John Vargas The Tenth Mile In action pictures, there was no virtuous side to identify with and nobody you really felt very good about cheering for. (Kael 113) This forty two year old remark is still true for at least half of present day action movies; the remaining ones are either about good triumphing over evil or about dopey loser unlocking inner genius. These movies usually (and perhaps unavoidably) involve vendettas too bad to be true or masters too good to be true. While I openly distain their outright unreality and secretly savor their gripping intensity, I am aware of a hope, an expectation, a desire, deep in my heart, awaiting something with both stylish actions and a realistic plot. The Tenth Mile perfectly fits that blank space. Born in America and raised in six different countries, the young avant garde director John Vargas set out to produce something different. And he did it. The story seems incredibly real and resonates well with us normal people partly because Vargas based the story largely on his own experience living and learning martial arts in different countries. There is no dark, dread, dangerous gang leader, nor old, white, near divine grandmaster. The protagonist Pete Harkin, played by the action movie icon Mason Grey, is no more than an avid lover of martial arts. Anyone can be Pete. Anyone can learn martial arts. Convinced by his very first western boxing master of the Nine Miles to becoming a real martial artist, Pete goes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
