Controversy Over Vegetarianism
Vegetarianism is not merely a present day fashion. Human beings from
diverse cultures have practiced it since olden times. Having a vegetarian diet has been
a topic that creates conflicting opinions, and it seems that the controversy gets bigger
as time moves on. In the times that we are living in today, where we are persistently
bombarded with information through the television and Internet, it makes it hard to know
who is right and who is wrong on this issue. Embracing vegetarianism provides the
optimum benefit as it keeps a person fit as a fiddle, with the added benefits of being
human and not disturbing the law of nature. So many Americans in many instances are
caught up with discovering the perfect diet. While such a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

USDA includes meat as part of a balanced diet, but it also states that a
vegetarian diet can meet the recommended dietary allowances for
nutrients. Many proponents of vegetarianism say that eating meat harms
health, wastes resources, causes deforestation, and creates pollution.
They often argue that killing animals for food is cruel and unethical since
non animal food sources are plentiful. Many opponents of a vegetarian
diet say that meat consumption is healthful and humane, and that
producing vegetables causes many of the same environmental problems
as producing meat. They also argue that humans have been eating and
enjoying meat for 2.3 million years. In Western culture, vegetarianism
dates back to Ancient Greece. The mathematician Pythagoras (570 BC
495 BC) advocated vegetarianism; a meatless diet was commonly called
the Pythagorean diet until the term vegetarian became popular during
the 1800s. The philosopher Plato (428 BC 348 BC) described a
vegetarian diet as divinely ordained ( Should People ).
The major reason I think more people are opting to become vegetarians is to reduce

Philips vs Matsushita Case
1.Briefly describe reasons for Phillips and Matsushita to operate internationally. Why do they do it?
Describe the international strategy of Phillips and Matsushita using the international strategy
classifications we discussed in class (e.g., localization, transnational, global).
Philips and Matsushita are two electronic (equipment and service) based powerhouses who had to
expand their business to the international market. One my ask why they needed to operate
internationally... each company, Philips and Matsushita, wanted to stand in front of their peer
companies as the market leader in the industry. In order to do this, each company would go through
various changes, some of which hurt and some of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This structure is unlike that of the Philips where locals, within the national organizations, held senior
management positions. Basically, the structure gave some leeway to product control but still kept the
same global image of Matsushita. As times/cultures changed, the strategy that existed with Matsushita
during the early years proved to be the foundation of a successful company.
3.How these strategies are related the performance of these companies over time? Why? What is going
on in terms of industry competition and markets that makes one strategy outperform the other at any
point in time?
The performance of each company is different from time to time based on their two different
international strategies. Philips, for instance, showed poor struggles between national organizations
and product divisions since there was no centralized decision making terminal. In the end, the national
organizations held the power because they were in control of the assets. Being in control of assets, the
national organizations had more influence on the management team. Also the lack of clarity between
the two s responsibilities did not allow Philips to function effectively as a whole. They did have one
thing going for them though. Philips was able adapt to changing markets based on their localization
strategy. They

Qantas Internal Analysis Essay
Internal analysis using current up to date information about the company When analyzing the internal
analysis for Qantas Airlines in Australia we come to know that profit margins here are also very tight.
0.5% growth is expected in the upcoming years. It is predicted that by 2017 the total revenues will
reach to 14.9 billion Australian Dollars. The steep margins are due to increased competition. Qantas
airlines hold 65% of the total market share which is high as compared to other countries. Nevertheless
every other competitor is using world class crew, services, uniform, and food to attract more
customers. Even though there is high competition, Qantas has competitive edge by having a strong
brand, better slots at airports and well trained staff. (Bloomberg, 2011) Virgin Australia and Tiger

Maumee Ohio Traffic Selection Process
Receiving a citation for breaking an Ohio traffic law can be disturbing, but receiving a guilty charge
can be devastating. The state of Ohio is strict when it comes to ensuring that its drivers follow traffic
laws perfectly. A Toledo OH driver stands to face several consequences if a judge finds that person
guilty of breaking traffic laws. The monetary fine is only part of the penalty. The driver may receive
points on his or her license for the violation, and the points may affect that person s life in an adverse
manner. For example, an employer may turn down a job applicant for a driving position if that person
has too many points on the license. The person s automobile insurance rates may skyrocket, as well.
Examples of Maumee, Ohio Traffic Offenses
The state of Ohio has an extensive list of traffic crimes for which a driver can commit and receive a
citation. Some of the highest point oriented charges are:

Drag racing 6 points
Reckless operation 4 points
Driving without owner consent 6 points

Medieval Knights Research Paper
Knights, were from the medieval era. At age twelve or thirteen a boy born in to nobility would become
a squire. They became assistants to knights, they would look after the knight s armor and weapons.
They would be able to follow the knight in to battle and learn the use of the weapons. When the
knights were in tournaments, the squire was the only person allowed to help him. Once the squire was
old and skilled enough, he would become a knight himself. Knights were usually vassals who decided
to fight for higher lords in exchange for protection. They were considered to be in the nobility class.
They were usually just military officers. Knights were noblemen who rode on horseback and they
followed the strict military code of chivalry, the code demanded that a knight was to obey his lord, to
help people, be brave, show respect to women, and honor the church. Many of the good manners
today come from the code of Chivalry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The castle would usually be built on higher ground to see enemies coming from below. This would
also help to build a moat, the drawbridge would be the only pathway from the land to the castle. The
castle would have multiple stories from basements to dungeons. The toilet would be built at the
bottom story to let the waste go down into the water below. In the beginning, knights usually wore
armor made of metal chains. Later on, metal armor became more efficient. The armor was used to
protect different parts of the body. The first type of armor used by the knights was chain mail and a
helmet. It was then useless when the crossbow was invented. Next, came the suit made of metal plates,
it covered the whole body from head to toe. The pieces of the armor included the helmet for the head,
the cuisse used to cover the thigh, the greave covers ankle to knee, the visor used to let the knight see,

Overeater Anonymous (OA) is a support group for individuals who have problems related to food
such as compulsive overeater, binge eating disorder, bulimics and anorexics. The meeting was located

Sex in the City-the Roman Empire
Sex in the times of the Roman Empire was much less taboo than it is in today s society. If you could
go back in time and walk around the streets of Rome you would find sex everywhere. From graffiti on
walls, to brothels in the middle of town, sex just did not have the stigma and guilt that we associate
with it today. No men took advantage of this more than the men with the most power, the emperors.
Although many of the Roman Emperors were perverse you only have to look at the first three to find
how the morals for the Roman Empire were set. There is no better place to start talking about sex in
the Roman empire than with the first emperor, Augustus. Born Gaius Octavius in 63 BC, he was
destined for greatness from the very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the first things that Tiberius did when he came in to power was to reverse the laws that
Augustus put in to place trying to protect the morality of Rome. Tiberius spent very little time in
Rome during his reign as Emperor and retired to the country to spend the last eleven years of his life.
While living in the country Tiberius set new standards of debauchery, going as far as creating a new
government office for the originating of unfamiliar carnal pleasures (Cawthorne 67). Also at his villa
in the country Tiberius housed young boys and girls to peform sexual acts in front of him to arouse his
wanning sex drive. The historian Suetonius lays several scandolus allegations at the feet of Tiberius
including raping two young boys at a sacrifice. It is said that when the two boys objected to the way
Tiberius treated them that he had their legs broken. It is also said that Tiberius was awful. When one
woman showed that she did not want to do what he told her to, Tiberius had informers lay false
accusations against her and then showed at her trial shouting Are you sorry now (68)? Luckily for
Rome, Tiberius accomplished very little in his time as Emperor and spent the majority of his time in
isolation. Unfortunatly for Rome the man that would become Tiberius heir would be much worse.

The Pearl, By John Steinbeck
Most people would consider finding a piece of jewelry worth large sums of money a wonderful stroke
of luck. Kino, the main character of John Steinbeck s ninety page novel The Pearl, sure felt this way
when he discovered the greatest pearl in the world at the point in his life when he needed it most his
son having just being stung by a scorpion and needing expensive medical treatment. However, when
the pearl buyers try to swindle him and then send assassins to kill him, burn his house, and destroy his
canoe, his perception of the pearl begins to shift. He decides to flee to the capital and sell the pearl
himself, taking a route through the mountains in order to evade his pursuers. When his efforts to hide

He very plainly puts, For his boat smashed, his baby dead, and the pearl cast into the sea, he has less
when the story is over than he had when it started (140).
Commentator Sydney Krause who takes a similar approach describes Kino s returning of the pearl to
the sea as a desperate act of defeat at the hands of the pearl s evil nature (156). Stephen George calls
Coyotito Kino s real pearl and writes that his death will follow Kino for the rest of his life (95). Kino
does eventually rid himself of the pearl but not before it has destroyed almost everything that he cares
for (Lisca 292). The loss of his livelihood, the death of his son, and the forfeiture of the pearl make
Kino s position at the end of the novel seem morose. On the other hand, other critics see the novel as
optimistic because they believe that Kino redeems himself when he throws the pearl back into the
ocean. In the last paragraph of the novel, Steinbeck makes a hard shift from a deep melancholy tone to
a calm peaceful tone a shift that has aroused the interests of many Steinbeck readers. He uses the word
lovely and the color green multiple times in just a few sentences to show the peacefulness of the pearl
s new resting place (90). On further reflection, some critics have picked up on the subtle

Harold Pinter s work was influenced by Samuel Beckett who used silence to create different theatrical
effects. Pinter s themes can be subtle but effective, from the repetition of the newspaper and the
disturbance of Ben and Gus s routine before going on the job. Pinter used this technique in The Dumb
Waiter and many other plays he has written but in this case the silence is filled with thoughts of
violence. Ben and Gus who have to stay silent while on the job, watching their target given to them by

Life Solutions Center Observation Report
Hi Maud,
I m happy we had the chance to speak Tuesday morning.
You requested an email listing the ideas I ve had (and that we ve spoken of in the past) for the Life
Solutions Center.
Let me begin with my perspective. It s my observation that the Life Solutions Center has grown, not
only in membership and clients visiting the center, but also in reputation and influence in the
community. I believe the center should try to increase it s influence and capitalize on it. So, what
would this look like?
If the Life Solutions Center is recognized by the surrounding Universities as a place that interns can
work and get college credits we should tap on that resource and well as paid help in implementing the
following:
Videos: Quick, fun, interesting to post to the web site but more importantly all social media outlets.
We would come up with a theme such as Question of the week , Life Solution Tip for This Week ,
And, most importantly, at the end there would be a question such as, Is there something in your life
that you need a solution for ? They would have a consistent format including music, etc. I have a call
out to someone who does this for a living to give me advice on how to go about it the most
economical way and of course how to make it easy for anyone watching to get to the subject matter ...

want to know, in advance, who was attending beforehand and what things they are thinking of for the
next step and future steps of the Ram Council. This way the presentations would then be geared
toward what they want and need, succinct and interactive. I think this way will build rapport and

The Importance Of Education In High School
From a young age, I have always been encouraged by my parents to take advantage of every
educational opportunity that I could. My mother was the first in her family to go to college, and my
father was educationally gifted from his youth, so they instilled their beliefs of the importance of
education in me. In the third grade, I was accepted into the Center Based Gifted (CBG) program, and
was surrounded with other educationally driven people from that time until I graduated from middle
school. From there on, I applied for several specialty centers in my county, which closely resemble
colleges in their application processes and the emphasis on certain fields of academia. The Math and
Science High School at Clover Hill was the most fitting program for me and I was a part of the
competitively academic program offered there for all of high school. As my education has always been
a major part of my life, college was a given post high school plan for me. The struggle from there
became deciding which college best fit my personal academic needs. The house I grew up in was
surrounded by modest wooded areas, ideal for exploring, and had a small creek running through it. In
reality, the creek was a sewage ditch, but to me it was where I fell in love with biology and marine
life. I was fortunate enough to spend my childhood knee deep in water, exploring the tiny tadpoles,
crayfish, newts, lizards, and minnows that found their home in the creek. Experiencing the life cycle

The War On Drugs And Its Effect On Society
Humans have the tendency to wage war on anything which they thing has a negative Fulsy 7
effect on their society or which may affect their way of life. Before the 19th century, alcohol was
considered a product of religious relevance and individualistic satisfaction, but latter people realized it
was being abused and in 1914 the Narcotics Tax Act was introduce. And later the 18 amendment was
introduced prohibiting the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol with exception to religious
or medical use. This can be said to be the beginning of the war on drugs. A drug is a medicine or

Democrats on the other hand refuted these claims saying that it was a witch hunt against African
Americans and their leaders. Others claimed that Nixon was using the war on drugs as a way to
distract the nation from the things which were happening in his administration such as the Vietnam
War and also the scandals and allegations which surrounded him. Despite what the motives may have
been, the war on drugs led to an increase in incarceration, especially among African Americans, and
by so doing many families where destroyed and many African American children ended without
families and had to depend on gangs for shelter and protection. This widely increased the crime rates
since many people where unemployed. Christina Johns in her article clearly articulates that the war on
drugs was clearly a distraction from reality, a reality which was the abonnement and neglect of
minorities by the government. Johns explains that the Johns, Christina. The War on Drugs: Why the

and this war was effectively executed as many minorities today can barely get a job or even have an
admission to schools because they have a history of addiction. Therefore the so called war on drugs
initiated by the Nixon presidency was a failure.

When I think of my cultural identity, my religion Judaism comes to mind first and foremost. When I
think of my Jewish identity in conflict, racism (in my case anti Semitism ) is the obvious factor. But to
fully define my conflict with my religious identity, I cannot only write from personal experiences with
racism. I must also include the anti Semitism that my forefathers have endured, from the beginning of
time up to today, ranging from the Spanish Inquisition to the Holocaust, from the massacre at the
Munich Olympics to Iraq s actions in the Persian Gulf War. From direct racism and intended hatred to
subtle racism in the form of jokes and passing comments, anti Semitism has played a big part in my ...

Anti Semitism continues around the world today. In the recent Persian Gulf War, Saddam Hussein
bombed Israel in several areas even though Israel was not involved in any part of the war. Just a few
days ago, on October 26, six Israeli soldiers were killed instantly when a bomb in their jeep, planted
by Iranian terrorists, exploded.
Obviously, I have never gone through anything close to what the aforementioned have, but I have
endured racism personally. In a high school junior varsity basketball game my sophomore year, our
team traveled to a nearby high school. At the very end of the game (it was a blowout in our favor, and
there was not much of a crowd), I was dribbling near the opposing team s bench when all of a sudden,
one of their players on the bench yelled, Go home, you fucking Jew! I couldn t believe it. I just
stopped playing and stared at him, while my teammates waited for me to do something with the ball. I
had never heard anything like that directed at me before.
At first, I was in what might best be called shock, and then, after time had expired, I walked over to
our bench and my shock turned to anger. I didn t know what to do. I didn t confront him physically or

The Consequences Of Human Rights In The Holocaust
Renowned Zimbabwean revolutionary Robert Mugabe states, Cooperation and respect for each other
will advance the course of human rights worldwide. Confrontation, vilification, and double standards
will not. This quote vocalizes what human rights are and the steps necessary for liberty. However, this
set of rights are constantly in violation of mankind itself in innumerable instances. The most evident
event that violated these rights is the Holocaust in World War II. This Holocaust was the persecution
of Jews and people deemed unfit by Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party during the nineteen thirties
and forties. Though this catastrophic event caught the attention of the world, this is not the only time
in history human rights being in violation. The Japanese effort in World War II to create biological
weapons for the war is another example of human rights being taken away by mankind. After this war,
the United Nations created a Universal Declaration of Human Rights , Article Five stating, No one
shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Elie Wiesel, wrote the memoir, Night, that captured the hearts of
millions of people in his survival of the Holocaust as a Jew. One event Elie recalled is his first time in
the concentration camp, Auschwitz. Yes, I did see this, with my own eyes... children thrown into the

Disappearance Of Absence Of Malice, By Megan Carter
My main take away from Absence of Malice was the power journalists have over the lives of the
people they write about. When Megan Carter wrote about Tommy Gallagher in the paper, she affected
his life in a big way by saying he was under investigation for the disappearance of Joey Diaz. She did
not know him or know if he was involved in the disappearance of Joey Diaz, but she told the whole
world that he was being investigated. In today s media climate being announced as investigated for a
crime makes people automatically assume you are most likely guilty. Someone s life can be ruined if

Comparison Of Sophocles Oedipus The King
Oedipus the King is a play that is written by Sophocles (Oedipus the King, Sophocles). There is also a
filmed adaptation it is a stage performed version known as Oedipus Rex whose director was Tyrone
Guthrie, the producer was Leonid Kipnis, and the screenwriter was William Butler Yeats. that was
filmed in 1957 (Oedipus Rex, 1957). The written play has a message that a wrong must be made right
or it will be punished:(Oedipus the King, Sophocles) and the filmed adaptation has a very similar
portrayal , and the message is the same: a wrong must be made right or it will be punished(Oedipus
Rex, 1957). The main character of these works, Oedipus, is forced to learn that he must make past
wrongs right by overcoming his pride in order to undo the tribulation in the written text(Oedipus the
King, Sophocles).

He meets with a man known as Creon in order to find the answer, and Oedipus is told of the wrongful
bloodshed in the past, and how that bloodshed must be brought to justice, and the sin of that
bloodshed was the cause of the city s trouble in the written text(Oedipus the King, Sophocles) and also
in the filmed adaptation Oedipus meets with Creon to discuss how to stop the bloodshed in order to
stop the plague(Oedipus Rex, 1957). Then Oedipus learns this when he inquires in the text: By what
rite shall we cleanse us? What is the manner of the misfortune? Creon responds: By banishing a man,
or by bloodshed in quittance of bloodshed, since it is that blood which brings the tempest on our city
(Oedipus the King 1.1.85 89). Oedipus the asked: Who is the man whose fate he thus reveals?

Argumentative Essay On Autism
Giving a speech in front of classmates. Hugging a best friend after a rough day. Changing up the daily
routine at school. These are a few examples of activities most Autistic children consider as their worst
nightmare. Even though a child with Autism could be, and probably is, brilliant, they find themselves
trapped inside. The Autistic Spectrum Disorder, universally known as Autism, is a disease that causes
a child to face mental, physical, and emotional challenges.
A wealth of new brain research is lifting the veil on Autism and revealing its effects on a child`s mind
(Cray and Wallis 43). Neuroscientist Eric Courchesne at Children`s Hospital of San Diego revealed
that while children with autism are born with ordinary size brains, they experience a rapid expansion
by age two (Cray and Wallis 45). Much of this growth is due to the excessive amount of white matter,
the nerve fibers that link different areas of the brain. The abundance of white matter has led doctors to
believe Autism to be a problem with the way the brain is wired. Marcel Just, director of Carnegie
Mellon`s Center for Cognitive Brain Imaging in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, wrote that there is a lack of
synchronization between the different areas of the brain (Cray and Wallis 46). Local areas of the brain,
such as the frontal lobes and the amygdala, are over connected while links between more distant
regions, such as the right and left hemispheres, are poorly connected. One area of the Autistic brain
that is enlarged is the amygdala. The amygdala`s job is to assess threats in the environment or in
emotional and social behavior. It could be enlarged due to the fact that autistic children maintain a
high level of anxiety when having to relate to other people. Another enlarged area of the autistic brain
is the hippocampus, an area vital to memory. Doctors believe the hippocampus is enlarged because an
autistic child relies on memory to process and interpret situations that most people interpret in a
different area of the brain. Researchers have also discovered that autistic brains have chronic
inflammation. Amidst these issues Autistic people have learned to adapt and use their brains in
unusual ways. For example, they memorize the alphabet in

The Levels Of Organochlorine Pesticides ( Ocps ) And Heavy...
This study investigated the levels of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and heavy metal residues in
shellfish (shrimp, oyster and crab) collected from three Egyptian Governorates (Ismailia, Damietta
and Alexandria). Levels of 12 OCPs such as hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), aldrin, endrin and
dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs) residues were investigated. The dominant detected OCPs
were β HCH, p,p DDE and endrin. In general, contamination pattern of OCPs was in the order of other
OCPs (HCB, heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide, aldrin, endrin and γ chlordane) HCHs DDTs. Residual
concentrations of some heavy metals and trace elements were also estimated. The highest residual
levels of OCPs and heavy metals were detected in oysters collected from Damietta. The
concentrations of OCPs and heavy metals in examined shellfish, generally, were below the maximum
residual level set by United States Food and Drug Administration and FAO. Therefore, shellfish
collected from these studied sites could be considered safe for human consumption.
Keywords: Organochlorine pesticides; Heavy metals; Shellfish; Egypt Introduction Organochlorine
pesticides (OCPs) are persistent pollutants of worldwide concerns owing to their environmental
persistence, bioaccumulation and magnification ability in the food chain and potential toxicity in
humans and wildlife (Jones and de Voogt, 1999).These chemicals can enter the aquatic environment

How Did Classical Music Influence Mozart s Life
Most people, when they hear the first notes of Symphony No. 40 in g minor, instantly recognize that it
was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but if they hear the name Donna Elvira, a strong female
opera character, Mozart s name doesn t exactly come to mind. The Classical age, when Mozart lived,
was filled with many incredible composers and was heavily influenced by the Catholic church. Many
people influenced Mozart s life but three of the most impactful people or groups were his family,
Haydn and various members of royalty that he encountered. Mozart impacted almost every kind of
music, but the two that he arguably changed the most are opera and spiritual music. Wolfgang

The Classical Age of music lasted from 1750 to 1820. The middle of the eighteenth century witnessed
perhaps the most comprehensive change that has ever taken place in the history of Western music.
This quote, stated by F.E. Kirby, shows how revolutionary the classical music was at the time. This
change in music history led to some of the most revolutionary music in history. This quote claims that
classical music was a large impact on the rest of the music in music history. The Classical age was
when the Baroque style of music, very complicated and many melodies at once, slowly changed into
the Classical style, a more formal and graceful style of music. Over the course of the Classical era the
music became more complex and led into the Romantic Era. During the Classical Age of Music there

Freedom of religion When we say freedom of religion what is that exactly means? The First

an official religion and the government do not give any support for any religion institution because of
the government want to encourage and promoting religion in any ways. In addition to that, nobody can
penalize any citizen because of their religious beliefs. It s always best to keep the government out of
religion to protect religion liberty. The three United States founders were different religious
backgrounds. As most of us know the public schools are run by the government and they obey the
First Amendment. When any public education institution teach about the impacts of religion in
literature, history and philosophy they can t indorse religious beliefs or practices as part of the
catalogue. In the United States no one can prayer, theological reading and loudspeaker spiritual breach

people or activities for example, by forcing others to pray with them or practice their religion.

Describe The Functional Components Of The Renal Corpuscle Di
The functional unit of the kidney is the nephron. It consists of a renal corpuscle where fluid can be
filtered and a renal tubule where the filtered fluid flows through. Nephrons perform three basic
functions, Glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption, and tubular secretion. Glomerular filtration
occurs as pressure (glomerular blood hydrostatic pressure) forces water and dissolved blood
components through the endothelial pores of the capillaries, basement membrane, and on through the
filtration slits of the adjoining visceral wall of the glomerular capsule. The resulting fluid is called the
filtrate. Most substances in blood plasma are filtered by the renal corpuscle. However, blood cells and
most proteins are not filtered. Filtration of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It retains substances needed by the body, including water, glucose, amino acids, and ions, such as
sodium potassium, calcium, chloride, bicarbonate, and phostphate. Reabsorption of Na+ is especially
important because more of them pass the glomerular filter than any other substance except water.
Sodium ions are reabsorbed in each portion of the renal tubule by several transport systems. Active
transport of Na+ promotes reabsorption of water by osmosis. The loss of water from the filtrate creates
a concentration gradient for some substances, such as K+, Cl , HC03 , and urea, that promotes their
reabsorption by passive diffusion. The loop of henle reabsorbs about 30% of the filtered K+, 20%
filtered Na+, 35% of filtered Cl , and 15% of the filtered water. Here reabsorption of water by osmosis
is not automatically coupled to reabsorption of filtered solutes. Thus, there can only be independent
regulation of both your total body water and the osmotic pressure of body fluids. Two hormones,
Aldosterone, and Antidiuretic Hormone or ADH, regulate reabsorption in the final portion of the distal
convoluted tubule and collecting ducts. About 90% of the reabsorbed water occurs with the
reabsorption of solutes such as sodium and glucose, the rest is regulated by ADH. Whereas tubular
reabsorption returns substances from the filtrate to the blood, tubular secretion removed materials that
are not needed by the body from the blood and adds them to the filtrate. Secreted substances include
potassium, hydrogen, and ammonium ions, as well as certain drugs and wastes. Tubular secretion has
two principle effects, rids the body of certain materials, and helps to control blood pH by secreting H+
ions and increasing or decreasing HC03

African Americans And The Police Essay
There has long been a difference between African Americans and the police. Sometimes minor to
being outright confrontational. But if you ask someone on the police force, they would most likely
answer no, there are not any differences in the way minority and non minority communities are
treated. But if you asked a minority community, they would probably answer yes, there is a difference.
One of the facts that remain constant is the difference in the way blacks and whites view policing and
racial relations in America. Pew Research Center polling has continually found that blacks and whites
have very different views about many sides of race all together, from trust in the police to advances in
racial equality. In one poll, whites said that they believed quite a bit of progress has been made since
1963, compared with only about one third of blacks, according to a 2013 survey, which was done just
before the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. s March on Washington. Curiously, when
comparing those views with the views on how police deal with minorities in a survey shortly after the
Ferguson shooting when about three fourths of blacks said the incident brought up important issues
about race. When only about one third of whites thought the same. In yet another poll in which blacks
told of less trust than whites in local police to treat both races equally. A majority of whites expressed
a great deal or fair amount of trust in local police to treat blacks and whites

After examining the figures in the illustration, discuss the difference the greenhouse effect plays in the
atmosphere of the Moon, Earth, and Venus.
Energy from the sun heats the earth surface and atmosphere. Short wave solar radiation is the energy
that comes from the sun. When this radiation passes through the atmosphere and strikes an object
three things happen. First, some of the energy is absorbed. Second, some simply transmit this energy.
Third, some bounce off the object without being absorbed. The greenhouse effect is the transmission
of these short wave solar radiation and longer wavelength radiation, known as (terrestrial radiation)
which are absorbed through water vapors and carbon dioxide. This type of greenhouse effect happens

{Heneka, 2010 #29}. This suggests that a loss of NE ergic cells could result in lower microglial cell
function and a decrease in Aβ clearance in patients with AD. Indeed, DSP 4 injections in the Ts65Dn
mouse model of DS has resulted in increased hippocampal inflammation and accelerated degeneration
into AD like pathology {Lockrow, 2011 #54}. NE deficiency induced by DSP 4 injections lead to a
disruption in the neural glial interactions and increased inflammatory signaling {Braun, 2014 #9}. For
instance, adult rats injected with DSP 4 followed by Aβ injection showed increase in inflammatory
markers including iNOS, IL 1B, and IL 6. When Aβ was injected alone into the mice, iNOS was
expressed primarily in the microglia, but injection of both Aβ and DSP 4 resulted in iNOS expression
in neurons {Heneka, 2002 #28}. As expected, increased NE levels can attenuate this effect. Based on
this, it appears that the loss of NE is driving this cascade of events {Heneka, 2002 #28}. It has already

Comparing Huckleberry Finn And The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer
A reason why novels such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer by Mark Twain are considered some of the best pieces of American literature is because Twain
s writing style revolutionized literature. Twain, unlike many authors at the time, chose to write his
books in a more realistic perspective of American culture. Shying away from the romantic and
transcendentalist techniques is what allowed Twain to become an instant literary giant. Within Mark
Twain s works, he successfully captures and illustrates what American life was like in his lifetime.
This realistic approach allows people to see the grim and gritty reality of his time period. Today Twain
s novels can be perceived as a portal into nineteenth century life. Back then people were desensitized
to derogatory slurs and lingos of their time just as we are to our own today. Modern people attempt to
protect their children from the harshness and evils of reality, which in turn, leads to censorship. This

the conflict over the same book one hundred years into the future, but now there is a different reason.
In The Adventures of HuckleBerry Finn the N word appears an excessive 219 times and has been

Socialism Vs Capitalism

Do you ever feel like you are underpaid at work? Is it too challenging to even find a job? Do you

These are the issues that Socialists care about most deeply. Come join us as we fight for liberty!
It is a fact that our current society is built upon profit. Socialists argue that this profit comes from the
produce of the workers. For example, if a worker builds a table out of wood, the value of the table is
equivalent to the labor that the worker puts in, plus the labor necessary to get the refined pieces of

Essentially, Socialists wish to construct a society in which the profit motive is gone, and in which
society as a whole democratically plans the economy. Money will be replaced with labor vouchers,

Comparing Leadership In The First Avenger And Iron Man
Leadership skills are an essential element to the development of effective leaders. Some leaders have
natural abilities while others are thrust into a position of leadership and develop on the way.
Ultimately I believe great leadership skills are derived from values, beliefs and skills in relaying those
values and beliefs to the people around them. With effort we can all develop the key elements to
ultimately motivate and effectively lead any team to success. In this essay I will compare and contrast
two persons with very different leaderships styles and analyze their abilities to effectively lead. Steve
Rogers is the main character of the movie The First Avenger and is great contrast to Tony Stark of the
movie Iron Man . Both have very different backgrounds, values and beliefs which ultimately translate
to the people around them as they are both chosen to lead. This compare and contrast will also span a
series of six movies in order to track the development of these characters as they mature and
experience difficult challenges in the eyes of their team. The First Avenger The First Avenger takes
place during WWII. Steve Rogers is a young scrawny kid who is convinced it is his duty and
responsibility to fight in the war. Unfortunately, Steve suffers from a host of ailments and is ... Show

How Carbon s Electron Configuration Determines The Kinds...
Viola Tuliao
PD. 7 8
Organic Chemistry Explain how carbon s electron configuration determines the kinds and numbers of
bonds that carbon will form.
Carbon has six total electrons; two of the electrons it has are in its first electron shell while the other
four are its valence electrons. Due to its four valence electrons, it rarely gains and/or loses electrons
and/or form ionic bonds due to the fact it would have to give away or take four other electrons. In
order to complete its outer shell, carbons shares its valence electrons with other atoms by having four
separate covalent bonds. The carbon atom then becomes the crossing point where each molecule
branches off into four separate directions.Carbon s electron configuration allows it to bond frequently
with oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and phosphorus. If the carbon atom forms only a single covalent
bond, The electrons form so that its bonds angle towards an imaginary tetrahedron.
Distinguish among monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. Include structure and
function.
Monosaccharides, also known as simple sugars, are the simplest form of carbohydrates and can either
function alone or become a monomer for disaccharides or polysaccharides. Its function is to fuel
molecules in a living cell as well as be used as raw materials for the synthesis of amino and fatty
acids. It is formed of a singular sugar formula of CH2O. Disaccharides are used as an energy source
for organisms and made up of two

The Evil Character Of Iago
Evil has been portrayed throughout time in many ways. In Christian theology, it has been shown
through the character of Satan and his various sins. In Stephen King novels, it is portrayed through the
imagery provided by monsters and humans with cruel intentions. All these characters, though different
in many ways, all hold a similar trait, that they are aware of the evil nature and how they represent a
different nature to seem a certain way to others. They may portray themselves as kind, caring, and
honest when they are in fact, quite the opposite; cruel, dishonest and malevolent. They also all have
the power to be destructive, even if they do not have a direct reason to, only their own desire to do so.
While good is self producing and improving, evil is self destructive and can only create evil. Iago, as
an evil character, holds many similarities to other wicked figures, and is sometimes seen as a satan
like figure. Shakespeare uses the character of Iago to display the different forms evil can take on such
as being hidden behind false intentions, turning into an image of good, and its destructive nature
resulting into its own end.
In the beginning of the play, Iago is seen by other characters as a wholesome character, often called
Honest Iago due to his seemingly kind nature, though it is merely a mask his wickedness is hidden
behind. Iago, when speaking to Rodrigo about his honorable position, he reveals his true intentions
behind what he does in his position by saying,

The Importance Of Paranormal Activity
Did you know that according to Michael Lipka, 18% of Americans say that they have seen a ghost.
Paranormal activity is a highly debatable topic about Paranormal events that happen. It is relevant
because people will know if it s a possibility that their witnessing/experiencing paranormal activity. A
second reason why it s relevant is if people are experiencing this they will know what s happening and
know how to get rid of it/them and stay safe. There are lots of controversy and theories about
paranormal activity for example saying it s your brain and it s not real. Paranormal activity is real.
Three claims on why paranormal activity is real are stories, movies/documentaries, and scientific
evidence. Stories prove that paranormal activity is real. Stories show that it s happened before to
people. Paranormal activity can happen to anyone and happen anywhere. A family friend said, Our
younger boy Connor came down and asked me Mom, who s the old man upstairs with a blanket
around him. Then another time she said her husband was gone, so it was just her and the kid, and they
heard a bunch of noises down in the basement so she called 911. The cops came with their guns out
and they went down into the basement and found nobody, but all the stuff was tipped over. Later, they
contacted the former owners daughter and asked her to come over and she confirmed it was her Dad
(Connor and the daughter described him the same way), so she went into the house and yelled, this is

Why? What is going on in terms of industry competition and markets that makes one strategy outperform the other at any point in time? The performance of each company is different from time to time based on their two different international strategies. Philips, for instance, showed poor struggles between national organizations and product divisions since there was no centralized decision making terminal. In the end, the national organizations held the power because they were in control of the assets. Being in control of assets, the national organizations had more influence on the management team. While living in the country Tiberius set new standards of debauchery, going as far as creating a new government office for the originating of unfamiliar carnal pleasures (Cawthorne 67). Also at his villa in the country Tiberius housed young boys and girls to peform sexual acts in front of him to arouse his wanning sex drive. When one woman showed that she did not want to do what he told her to, Tiberius had informers lay false accusations against her and then showed at her trial shouting Are you sorry now (68)? I mentioned to you how I have reached the age of not needing anything for Christmas. I thought long and hard about what to get you for a gift and I was stuck. We are a very lucky family, to have a nice home, nice cars, and the ability to have leisure s in life some people can only dream of. So when it came to deciding what to get you for Christmas, I felt it was only right to give you the gift you most deserve, a thank you. However, when the pearl buyers try to swindle him and then send assassins to kill him, burn his house, and destroy his canoe, his perception of the pearl begins to shift. He very plainly puts, For his boat smashed, his baby dead, and the pearl cast into the sea, he has less when the story is over than he had when it started (140). Commentator Sydney Krause who takes a similar approach describes Kino s returning of the pearl to the sea as a desperate act of defeat at the hands of the pearl s evil nature (156). Stephen George calls Coyotito Kino s real pearl and writes that his death will follow Kino for the rest of his life (95). Kino does eventually rid himself of the pearl but not before it has destroyed almost everything that he cares for (Lisca 292). The loss of his livelihood, the death of his son, and the forfeiture of the pearl make Kino s position at the end of the novel seem morose. On the other hand, other critics see the novel as optimistic because they believe that Kino redeems himself when he throws the pearl back into the ocean. In the last paragraph of the novel, Steinbeck makes a hard shift from a deep melancholy tone to a calm peaceful tone a shift that has aroused the interests of many Steinbeck readers. He uses the word lovely and the color green multiple times in just a few sentences to show the peacefulness of the pearl s new resting place (90). You requested an email listing the ideas I ve had (and that we ve spoken of in the past) for the Life Solutions Center. Let me begin with my perspective. It s my observation that the Life Solutions Center has grown, not only in membership and clients visiting the center, but also in reputation and influence in the community. I believe the center should try to increase it s influence and capitalize on it. So, what would this look like? If the Life Solutions Center is recognized by the surrounding Universities as a place that interns can work and get college credits we should tap on that resource and well as paid help in implementing the following: Videos: Quick, fun, interesting to post to the web site but more importantly all social media outlets. My mother was the first in her family to go to college, and my father was educationally gifted from his youth, so they instilled their beliefs of the importance of education in me. In the third grade, I was accepted into the Center Based Gifted (CBG) program, and was surrounded with other educationally driven people from that time until I graduated from middle school. From there on, I applied for several specialty centers in my county, which closely resemble colleges in their application processes and the emphasis on certain fields of academia. The Math and Science High School at Clover Hill was the most fitting program for me and I was a part of the competitively academic program offered there for all of high school. As my education has always been a major part of my life, college was a given post high school plan for me. The struggle from there became deciding which college best fit my personal academic needs. The house I grew up in was surrounded by modest wooded areas, ideal for exploring, and had a small creek running through it. In reality, the creek was a sewage ditch, but to me it was where I fell in love with biology and marine life. The Consequences Of Human Rights In The Holocaust Renowned Zimbabwean revolutionary Robert Mugabe states, Cooperation and respect for each other will advance the course of human rights worldwide. Confrontation, vilification, and double standards will not. This quote vocalizes what human rights are and the steps necessary for liberty. However, this set of rights are constantly in violation of mankind itself in innumerable instances. The most evident event that violated these rights is the Holocaust in World War II. This Holocaust was the persecution of Jews and people deemed unfit by Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party during the nineteen thirties and forties. Though this catastrophic event caught the attention of the world, this is not the only time in history human rights being in violation. The Japanese effort in World War II to create biological weapons for the war is another example of human rights being taken away by mankind. • 24. Argumentative Essay On Autism Giving a speech in front of classmates. Hugging a best friend after a rough day. Changing up the daily routine at school. These are a few examples of activities most Autistic children consider as their worst nightmare. Even though a child with Autism could be, and probably is, brilliant, they find themselves trapped inside. The Autistic Spectrum Disorder, universally known as Autism, is a disease that causes a child to face mental, physical, and emotional challenges. A wealth of new brain research is lifting the veil on Autism and revealing its effects on a child`s mind (Cray and Wallis 43). Neuroscientist Eric Courchesne at Children`s Hospital of San Diego revealed that while children with autism are born with ordinary size brains, they experience a rapid expansion by age two (Cray and Wallis 45). Much of this growth is due to the excessive amount of white matter, the nerve fibers that link different areas of the brain. The abundance of white matter has led doctors to believe Autism to be a problem with the way the brain is wired. Marcel Just, director of Carnegie Mellon`s Center for Cognitive Brain Imaging in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, wrote that there is a lack of synchronization between the different areas of the brain (Cray and Wallis 46). Local areas of the brain, such as the frontal lobes and the amygdala, are over connected while links between more distant regions, such as the right and left hemispheres, are poorly connected. One area of the Autistic brain that is enlarged is the amygdala. The amygdala`s job is to assess threats in the environment or in emotional and social behavior. It could be enlarged due to the fact that autistic children maintain a high level of anxiety when having to relate to other people. Another enlarged area of the autistic brain is the hippocampus, an area vital to memory. Doctors believe the hippocampus is enlarged because an autistic child relies on memory to process and interpret situations that most people interpret in a different area of the brain. Researchers have also discovered that autistic brains have chronic inflammation. Amidst these issues Autistic people have learned to adapt and use their brains in unusual ways. For example, they memorize the alphabet in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Describe The Functional Components Of The Renal Corpuscle Di The functional unit of the kidney is the nephron. It consists of a renal corpuscle where fluid can be filtered and a renal tubule where the filtered fluid flows through. Nephrons perform three basic functions, Glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption, and tubular secretion. Glomerular filtration occurs as pressure (glomerular blood hydrostatic pressure) forces water and dissolved blood components through the endothelial pores of the capillaries, basement membrane, and on through the filtration slits of the adjoining visceral wall of the glomerular capsule. The resulting fluid is called the filtrate. Most substances in blood plasma are filtered by the renal corpuscle. However, blood cells and most proteins are not filtered. Filtration of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It retains substances needed by the body, including water, glucose, amino acids, and ions, such as sodium potassium, calcium, chloride, bicarbonate, and phostphate. Reabsorption of Na+ is especially important because more of them pass the glomerular filter than any other substance except water. Sodium ions are reabsorbed in each portion of the renal tubule by several transport systems. Active transport of Na+ promotes reabsorption of water by osmosis. The loss of water from the filtrate creates a concentration gradient for some substances, such as K+, Cl , HC03 , and urea, that promotes their reabsorption by passive diffusion. The loop of henle reabsorbs about 30% of the filtered K+, 20% filtered Na+, 35% of filtered Cl , and 15% of the filtered water. Here reabsorption of water by osmosis is not automatically coupled to reabsorption of filtered solutes. Thus, there can only be independent regulation of both your total body water and the osmotic pressure of body fluids. Two hormones, Aldosterone, and Antidiuretic Hormone or ADH, regulate reabsorption in the final portion of the distal convoluted tubule and collecting ducts. About 90% of the reabsorbed water occurs with the reabsorption of solutes such as sodium and glucose, the rest is regulated by ADH. Whereas tubular reabsorption returns substances from the filtrate to the blood, tubular secretion removed materials that are not needed by the body from the blood and adds them to the filtrate. Secreted substances include potassium, hydrogen, and ammonium ions, as well as certain drugs and wastes. Tubular secretion has two principle effects, rids the body of certain materials, and helps to control blood pH by secreting H+ ions and increasing or decreasing HC03 ... But if you ask someone on the police force, they would most likely answer no, there are not any differences in the way minority and non minority communities are treated. But if you asked a minority community, they would probably answer yes, there is a difference. One of the facts that remain constant is the difference in the way blacks and whites view policing and racial relations in America. Pew Research Center polling has continually found that blacks and whites have very different views about many sides of race all together, from trust in the police to advances in racial equality. In one poll, whites said that they believed quite a bit of progress has been made since 1963, compared with only about one third of blacks, according to a 2013 survey, which was done just before the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. s March on Washington. Curiously, when comparing those views with the views on how police deal with minorities in a survey shortly after the Ferguson shooting when about three fourths of blacks said the incident brought up important issues about race. When only about one third of whites thought the same. In yet another poll in which blacks told of less trust than whites in local police to treat both races equally. Greenhouse Effect Vs Venus Greenhouse Effect After examining the figures in the illustration, discuss the difference the greenhouse effect plays in the atmosphere of the Moon, Earth, and Venus. Energy from the sun heats the earth surface and atmosphere. Short wave solar radiation is the energy that comes from the sun. When this radiation passes through the atmosphere and strikes an object three things happen. First, some of the energy is absorbed. Second, some simply transmit this energy. Third, some bounce off the object without being absorbed. The greenhouse effect is the transmission of these short wave solar radiation and longer wavelength radiation, known as (terrestrial radiation) which are absorbed through water vapors and carbon dioxide. It has been suggested that NE can protect neurons from the toxic effects of Aβ by activating peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPAR) delta and increasing glutathione production. This is based on the experiments in which the neuroprotective effects of NE were partially blocked by co treatment with an antagonist of PPARs, and replicated by incubation with a selective PPARdelta agonist {Madrigal, 2007 #57}. In addition, DSP4 mediated destruction of NE ergic cells leads to decreased migration and phagocytosis by microglia and reduced colocalization between microglia and Aβ {Heneka, 2010 #29}. This suggests that a loss of NE ergic cells could result in lower microglial cell function and a decrease in Aβ clearance in patients with AD. Indeed, DSP 4 injections in the Ts65Dn mouse model of DS has resulted in increased hippocampal inflammation and accelerated degeneration into AD like pathology {Lockrow, 2011 #54}. NE deficiency induced by DSP 4 injections lead to a disruption in the neural glial interactions and increased inflammatory signaling {Braun, 2014 #9}. For instance, adult rats injected with DSP 4 followed by Aβ injection showed increase in inflammatory markers including iNOS, IL 1B, and IL 6. When Aβ was injected alone into the mice, iNOS was expressed primarily in the microglia, but injection of both Aβ and DSP 4 resulted in iNOS expression in neurons {Heneka, 2002 #28}. As expected, increased NE levels can attenuate this effect. Based on this, it appears that the loss of NE is driving this cascade of events {Heneka, 2002 #28}. For he felt that he would be rewarded for his troubles if they [foreigners] praised his generosity and gave him a good reputation (Einhard 2004, 212). He was a great king who wanted to go down in history. As per Einhard, that seems to be Charlemagne s only selfish trait. He apparently only wore the national dress of the Frankish with few exceptions, which can only imply his great patriotism. Although he appreciated foreign customs, he seems to be very patriotic towards the Franks. Overall, Charlemagne embodied traits that came together to form this great Emperor who was admired by many. • 41. Comparing Huckleberry Finn And The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer A reason why novels such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain are considered some of the best pieces of American literature is because Twain s writing style revolutionized literature. Twain, unlike many authors at the time, chose to write his books in a more realistic perspective of American culture. Shying away from the romantic and transcendentalist techniques is what allowed Twain to become an instant literary giant. Within Mark Twain s works, he successfully captures and illustrates what American life was like in his lifetime. This realistic approach allows people to see the grim and gritty reality of his time period. Today Twain s novels can be perceived as a portal into nineteenth century life. Back then people were desensitized to derogatory slurs and lingos of their time just as we are to our own today. Socialists argue that this profit comes from the produce of the workers. • 44. How Carbon s Electron Configuration Determines The Kinds... Viola Tuliao PD. 7 8 Organic Chemistry Explain how carbon s electron configuration determines the kinds and numbers of bonds that carbon will form. Carbon has six total electrons; two of the electrons it has are in its first electron shell while the other four are its valence electrons. Due to its four valence electrons, it rarely gains and/or loses electrons and/or form ionic bonds due to the fact it would have to give away or take four other electrons. In order to complete its outer shell, carbons shares its valence electrons with other atoms by having four separate covalent bonds. The carbon atom then becomes the crossing point where each molecule branches off into four separate directions.Carbon s electron configuration allows it to bond frequently with oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and phosphorus. If the carbon atom forms only a single covalent bond, The electrons form so that its bonds angle towards an imaginary tetrahedron. • 45. The Evil Character Of Iago Evil has been portrayed throughout time in many ways. In Christian theology, it has been shown through the character of Satan and his various sins. In Stephen King novels, it is portrayed through the imagery provided by monsters and humans with cruel intentions. All these characters, though different in many ways, all hold a similar trait, that they are aware of the evil nature and how they represent a different nature to seem a certain way to others. They may portray themselves as kind, caring, and honest when they are in fact, quite the opposite; cruel, dishonest and malevolent. They also all have the power to be destructive, even if they do not have a direct reason to, only their own desire to do so. While good is self producing and improving, evil is self destructive and can only create evil. Iago, as an evil character, holds many similarities to other wicked figures, and is sometimes seen as a satan like figure. Shakespeare uses the character of Iago to display the different forms evil can take on such as being hidden behind false intentions, turning into an image of good, and its destructive nature resulting into its own end. In the beginning of the play, Iago is seen by other characters as a wholesome character, often called Honest Iago due to his seemingly kind nature, though it is merely a mask his wickedness is hidden behind.
