The Movie Scream Queens
From Sons of Anarchy to Nip Tuck , FX has created popular TV dramas over the years. However,
none of them has had such significant popularity as Ryan Murphy s American Horror Story , known
for its blood and gore, and Glee known for its sharp social commentary. The creation of these TV
series led to the drastic rise to stardom of Ryan Murphy s career. Though Glee s stint on TV has ended,
it was a highly acclaimed series with high ratings. Today, American Horror Story , his project
following Glee , is now one of TV s highest rated series, which is an especially peculiar
accomplishment for a TV series of this genre. Therefore, when the creation of a new horror TV series
was announced, nothing but sheer greatness was expected. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Similar to Sontag s Notes On Camp , which proposes a comic vision of the world (Sontag 288), Ryan
Murphy s Scream Queens utilizes comedy to portray issues prevalent in society today. By dethroning
the serious (Sontag 288) and being playful (Sontag 288) and anti serious (Sontag 288), Scream
Queens effectively accomplishes this feat. The TV series Scream Queens , deals with numerous social
issues in society such as homosexuality, racism and eating disorders. However, through its comedy
and lack of seriousness, this series is able to provide a sense of bluntness and harsh reality of these
issues. By adopting this unique approach, this TV series use of comedy works, as it depicts these
social issues in its true light, which many believe are non existent, subsequently leading to society s
ability to tackle these issues directly and head on .
A serious issue of today s society, which is referenced in the TV series Scream Queens is homophobia.
In the show, actress Jenna Han who portrays the character Sam on the TV show, is bullied as a result
of her sexuality. Other characters on the show nicknamed Sam The Predatory Lez, as a result of Sam
being a lesbian. The show attempts to highlight the struggles experienced by homosexuals in a
comedic fashion. Nick Jonas character, Boone, like Jenna Han s character, Sam, highlights the
struggle homosexuals experience in an attempt to be accepted by society. Boone attempts to fit into a

Women in Afghanistan are treated harshly by all men. The Taliban militias are known for raping
women when they travel alone and/or beating them. If a women is raped some husbands kill there
wives in shame of what has been done to them. In extreme cases some women live in abusive
households were they are beaten and unappreciated everyday. Some women go through extreme cases
were either their husbands burn them in rage or women burn themselves in order to make a statement
and die with no more suffering from there husbands. A Thousand Splendid Suns is a story of an
abusive husband. The impact on me from this story was immense. Living in the United States of
America most people do not know what is happening in Afghanistan and/or the extent on what women
are put through. Mariam is the perfect example of a life of suffering for women in Afghanistan.
Dishonored as a child, she was forced to live in a clay kolba with her mother. Married off at the young
age of 14, her story begins with the life style of an abusive husband. Laila, on the other hand, was
raised in a family were female education was pursued and girls were aloud to attend school. Laila s
Father is a very loving man and a determined mother. These two lives help represent the different
generations and situations that have happened and are happening right now in Afghanistan.

Essay Dinner at My Place
Every year on Halloween; my favorite holiday, I had a very special dinner party. It looks like it was
that time of the year again. So I pulled out my phone book and decided to invite a couple of people
over. After putting lots of thought into it, I decided to invite three people: Jesse Berst, Molly Masland,
and Julia Walker. Now these three people aren t just any three people. They all have something in
common; they know about about online shopping. They are all some type of reporter and have written
articles about online shopping. Jesse Berst is and he did a report called Online Shopping, The Safe

Just as I had finished setting things up, the doorbell rang. Jesse Berst was the first to show up; being
the new reporter that he is he is always very punctual. Of course he was dressed in his usual suit and
tie. His white hair was neatly combed back and he had a bottle of wine in his hand. Here you are, he
said politely. After the many thanks and oh s and ah over the wine I ran to the kicthen to put in

Julia Walker. She was wearing a simple long black dress and had no jewerly on except a sivler watch
that matched her earings. She was very tall and slender, almost as tall as Mr. Berst. Just as I was about

What Are The Obstacles In The Odyssey
In the stories The Odyssey, Divergent, and Moana, each character must face an obstacle that concerns
them of making a decision which affects their own family, in order to reach their goal. In The
Odyssey, Odysseus left his wife, Penelope for twenty years. Through those twenty years, Odysseus
was playing pattycake with some of the goddesses that he was encountered with. While Penelope was
at home, waiting for him and staying loyal to their marriage. She was even surrounded by a bunch of
suitors who wanted to marry her since they all thought Odysseus was never coming back. Penelope

had faith in Odysseus s returning. Even though Penelope was tempted by many men, she stayed
faithful to Odysseus which was a hard obstacle for her to go through. She didn t have her husband for
twenty years and she even had a son whom she had to raise by herself. She was able to overcome the
obstacle of losing family all by herself. Secondly, in Moana, Moana s father was very strict about her
getting into a boat in the ocean or even having her be by the ocean. He constantely told her that it was
too dangerous to go out beyond the reef. As Moana s father tried, what seemed like everday, to stop
her from going into the ocean, he knew that for her and for the island, he needed to let her go beyond
the reef. He needed to overcome the obstacle of letting his daughter go and being on her own. From
him letting his daughter go, she was able to restore the heart of Te Fiti and save her home. Lastly in

Why does Hamlet delay taking action against Claudius? This is a question that everyone want to
know. We all know that Hamlet want to kill his Uncle Claudius as soon as possible. But why does he
wait so long to sweep to his revenge? I believe that there are more than one reason why Hamlet delays

One reason why Hamlet delays to take action against Claudius is because he does not just want to kill
him, but he wants to damn his spirit. He hates Claudius so much that he is willing to take his life and

The First Crusade And The Crusade
In deciding the course of history in medieval Europe, one of the most influential events was the First
Crusade. The events that occurred set in motion a fundamental change in European society, religion,
and politics, and the ramifications have been thoroughly examined. In spite of the significant body of
scholarship on this crusade, and the extensive documentation from medieval sources, many elements
of the First Crusade still are debated or remain uncertain. One such aspect is the role that religion and
sincere piety played in the motivations of the crusaders and in the call for crusade itself. From a
modern perspective, it is not difficult to see the crusade as being the product of opportunistic politics,
and for the crusaders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actions of Pope Urban II in calling for a military pilgrimage were deeply political, but he was also
informed by religious concerns and worries over the moral integrity of Latin Christendom in his
decision. A major political dimension that manifests with Urban II preaching the First Crusade is a
unification of the Eastern and Western churches.1 While Urban II s address at Clermont does not
specifically address this aim, there is some body of evidence to support this as a political aspiration
such as how Urban II had been contacted by envoys of the emperor Alexius, who requested military
aid.2 While accounts of the address made at Clermont vary, most address the recent loss of territory
the Byzantine Empire had experienced, and the depredations made against Eastern Christians. The
account made by Baldric of Dol has Urban II address that your own blood brothers, your companions,
your associates (for you are sons of the same Christ and the same church) are either subjected in their
inherited homes to other masters, or are driven from them, or they come as beggars among us .3 With
the focus on the plight of Eastern Christians, however, there is still a spiritual element present the
crusade becomes a moral imperative, to stop the depredations of infidels in the holy spaces of
Christianity. While the support of the Byzantine Empire

many unanswered questions continue to fill us with such a sense of wonder, awe, and immense

Stonehenge is perhaps the worlds most famous prehistoric monument. This remarkable monument

complex, sacred landscape.
Building began in the late Neolithic period around 2500 3000 BC, as a simple earth work enclosure
where prehistoric people buried their cremated dead. When people think of the Neolithic era, they
often think of Stonehenge. There were two types of stone used at Stonehenge: the larger Saracens and

Religious Rights vs. Gay Rights
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community have always had issues with
discrimination and prejudice; even now anti gay movements are growing not only in our communities
but also in our legislative branch in the government. These people disguise their hate behind the
constitution and claim freedom of religion and speech. There ignoreos is growing to our congressmen
and women, laws are being pass in some states to prevent other anti gay laws. We as a nation in some
states are regressing as a whole and not progressing. The progress we have made recently which

Religious Freedom Restoration Act passed in Indiana is one example just a way to legalize
discrimination against gays: any business owner could now refuse to serve them simply by citing a
religious objection. Why do laws like these get pass. Its because of religious congressmen and women
who put their beliefs in the bible on religion over the laws they are supposed to uphold and protect.
Luckily some of these laws have been proven to be unconstitutional under the supreme court but only
after years of activist fighting them. We have made a lot of progress over the years but it still isn t
enough to protect the LGBT community. In this country today can get married on Saturday post
pictures on the wedding online on sunday and be fired from their job or evicted from the apartment on
monday for their sexual orientation. There needs to a national law protected everyone from any form
of discrimination.
If you ask someone if it is illegal to fire someone if they re gay they will most likely say yes but that s
not the case in most of the country. This is why we as a country need to push for better laws protecting
LGBT members and their rights. Until lawmakers put aside their religious and anti gay beliefs and
give LGBT members their basic right do they don t have to live in fear or losing there home or job just
because of who they

to have the system been used by the departments of correction. At first, the intent of Dr. Schweitzgebel
was to allow the population of the correctional facilities to not be saturated by many people at once

Review of Literature:
This futuristic alternative to monitored perpetrators was first initiated in the State of Massachusetts
which in 2005 began using the full GPS bracelet (The Office of Commissioner of Probation, 2014).
Electronic monitoring provides the governments with an alternative to prevent the overcrowding of
correctional facilities within a country. At the same time it provides the governments with additional
ways to counter attack the ways the criminal justice system can deal with perpetrators after court
proceedings are completed. The idea is to work out a way to keep a given community safely, but at the
same time to give the perpetrators with an opportunity to be able to rehabilitate and to better
themselves and becoming a productive member of the community and their families.
The government states that electronic monitoring still is way inexpensive than housing a perpetrator in
a correctional facility. However, when the government takes into consideration all the pieces involving
the monitoring of a person within a jurisdiction and all the pieces needed to make this happen then it
can be quiet expensive monetarily and with safety concerns. Can the government accurately supervise

The Music Of Grunge Music
Grunge Music
Grunge music was one of the most popular genres in the 1990 s, bringing a new style of rock with
gritty distortion and new styles of hair and clothing. One band some may know that was a popular
grunge band in the 90 s was Nirvana, which consisted of lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain,
drummer Dave Grohl, and bassist Krist Novoselic. This band was most popular for their hit album
Nevermind . One of their most popular songs on this album, Smells Like Teen Spirit , has been and
always will be a rebellion anthem for adolescents, empowering them. This message and it s meaning
make this one of the most popular songs by this band to date.
Another popular grunge band from the 90 s, Soundgarden, is infamous for their album, Supermassive
Black Hole , which included the hit Black Hole Sun . This band included members singer Chris
Cornell, drummer Matt Cameron (before going to Pearl Jam), lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist
Hiro Yamamoto.
However, grunge music was not appreciated by everyone. Most adults or elders at that time thought it
was too loud, or that it was devilish music. Even metal and rock bands disapproved of grunge,
including some bands that helped build the genre s popularity. Grunge bands fought for popularity,
which made matters worse. Nirvana s late frontman, Kurt Cobain, made a cruel statement about Pearl

Coping with Unexplained Fertility
If you and your partner have trouble conceiving for six months to a year, you might think you have a
fertility problem. Your next step is to go to a clinic and get tested for infertility symptoms. If these
tests result in no answers, you are diagnosed with unexplained infertility.
According to the Center for Human Reproduction, around 30% of women diagnosed with infertility
are thought to have unexplained infertility. The CHS believe this is a misleading faux diagnosis that

What s In A Name Meaning
Change of Meanings As the human race gets older we change the meanings of words to accomplish a
deep need to feel superior to other groups of people. This tragedy looms larger than farce in the United
States [and other countries] today (Kozol). Sometimes people will use a respected name but give it the
context of an insult, others use terms of endearment to promote or demote someone, and still others
use derogatory names. A respected name, can still be used as an insult in the right context. In Henry
Louis Gates, Jr. s essay, What s In A Name? it s explained to the point. Hello, Mr. Wilson, I heard my

Essay about Germany and Outbreak of WWI
Throughout time wars have ended with the defeat of one force and the victory of another, those on the
side of defeat almost always being held accountable for the destruction these wars produce. This is
undoubtedly the case with post WWI Germany, burdened with defeat and forced to sign the treaty of
Versailles, thus taking responsibility for the war. Although blamed for the war, it is still a highly
controversial question between historians if the Germans were truly responsible for WWI. However
when studying the actions of Germany as a nation and its leaders in the years leading up to the war,
one can see it is quite accurate to say Germany was responsible for the outbreak of World War One.

the Franco Prussian War laid the foundation of another war in the future. 3 It was enough of a disgrace
for France, so grand a country, to suffer such a defeat to the newly created Germany, but with the
taking of Alsace Lorraine Germany accentuated this loss guaranteeing future conflict. In this way
Germany gets the ball rolling so to speak, with these early developments paving the way to war.
Through their initiating of the chain of alliances and their degradation of France, the Germans
successfully set itself and Europe on the path to war long before Kaiser Wilhelm II, who was to
inadvertently become the catalyst behind Germany s causing of World War One. In 1888 Friedrich III

The Parthenon Essay
The ancient Greek civilization contributed many great new ideas and aspects to everyday life that
shaped and inspired the modern day society. The Greeks are well known for their construction of
temples, acropolis and other grand architectural structures. Among these structures stood one of the
most famous, the Parthenon. The Parthenon was a symbol of Greek society and culture as it stood as
one of Greece s most important architectural buildings. Besides being the Athenians greatest
architectural achievement, the Parthenon serves a basic purpose. The Parthenon is a temple devoted to
Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and guardian of the city state of Athens that got its name from
her. The temple marked the zenith of ancient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a cause of this relationship, the Parthenon plays a trick and strikes an illusion to the eye. Greek
architects Ictinus and Callicrates erected the temple atop the southern flank of the acropolis, the
central hill of the Greek city state which was used for defensive and religious purposes, then in
seventeen years, Ictinus and Callicrates completed the decorations of the Parthenon (Harper OL). The
Parthenon is made entirely of a marble from Mount Pentelicus called Pentelic marble and stands
approximately eighteen meters high. The selections made for the material of the Parthenon were
chosen with many points considered to ensure a strong and sturdy future. The Parthenon was
commissioned by Pericles sometime after Greek victories over the Persians between 490 and 480 BC
(Glancey 26, 27). During the Persian Greek wars, Athens believed that Athena watched over them and
that she helped them throughout the war. The Parthenon represents the wealth, power, society, and
culture of Athens. The building of the Parthenon cost the Athenians four hundred and sixty nine
talents, which symbolized Athens as wealthy.

Essay about Health Care Transparency
Health Care Transparency
HCS 235
Health Care Transparency Healthcare transparency has been defined by the Institute of Medicine
(IOM) as making available to the public, in a reliable and understandable manner, information on the
health care system s quality, efficiency and consumer experience with care, which includes price and
quality data, so as to influence the behavior of patients, providers, payers and others to achieve better
outcomes (American College, 2010). Transparency allows consumers to make better informed
decisions. It also helps health facilities convey information to the public. With more information in the

Patient satisfaction surveys will also help potential patients understand the environment they are about
to enter. If a staff is rude and curt than the public will have access to this. Essentially, this will
encourage health care providers to give optimal quality of service to each and every patient. Of
course, it s important that a patients expectations are not too grand. Nothing in life is perfect and
people should understand this. Busy hours and numerous patients can cause fatigue. After all, health
care providers are still human. Perhaps if all physicians were machines then we could expect them all
to be perfect. Performance of medical procedures will enlighten a patient of how well a hospital is
able to provide a service. This in turn will allow consumers to make the best choice when selecting a
facility for providing care. Someone needing back surgery should be able to locate and choose a
facility right for them. If a facility performs poorly with back surgeries, the public has a right to know
so that they can avoid this. People have the right to make the most well informed decision. Facility
treatment of patients should definitely be transparent. If a facility is trying to hide something it can t
be good. People have the right to know how well a facility treats their patients. This also encourages a
facility to always do their best. Ultimately, everyone wants

Analysis Of The Green Mile
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen of the Literary and Media Arts Festival. In today s session,
Novel to Film Adaptations Empowering the Marginalised Perspective, Frank Darabont s corrupt film
adaptation of, The Green Mile, will be exposed as a blatant juxtaposition of Paul Edgecombe s journal
on which it is based. Audiences are invited to follow the disturbing experiences and happenings upon
the green mile in 1932 at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row. The film constructs Percy
Wetmore as cruel, malevolent and aggressive, however, this is contrasted by the reality presented in
the journal, through which he portrays characteristics of dedication, determination and intuition. Three
scenes evident within both written evidence and film will be pinpointed in today s presentation
explaining why my client, Percy Wetmore has been unjustly represented. Firstly, the Squashing of Mr.
Jingles, secondly Delacroix s Execution, and thirdly, John Coffey s Arrival. It is apparent through the
examination of the character construction of Percy Wetmore within the film, that the representation
dehumanizes, exploits and manipulates the actions and intentions of Percy in a manner that is
discriminatory. The Squashing of Mr Jingles is a scene in the film which cleverly appeals to the
emotions of audiences, and is particularly significant as it further establishes the demonization of
Percy. In this particular scene a low camera angle, confronting sound effects and elusive dialogue are

Why Do Not Fit Barbie Standards
Since the late 1950s, Barbie has come to represent the idealized American woman. She is tall, slender,
and blonde. For most, this body type is unattainable and unrealistic. Woman come in all shapes, sizes,
and hair colors. Who decided that Barbie was going to be the perfect woman? Obviously, not the vast
majority of women that do not fit the Barbie standard. This 1950s standard should not be what little
girls think they should look like in 2016. Little girls need a broader example of achievable beauty. As
a little girl I played with Barbie and I always dreamed of being just like her. However, I did not fit the
Barbie standard. I could change my hair color but I can not change my body type or my height. This
does not mean I am not beautiful;

Should emerging market economies embrace market liberalisation reforms?
By Jin Ee Ng
When financial restrictions bring about nothing but deterioration the economy, the country will opt for
a liberalisation to lessen government regulation and restriction in the financial market. Financial
market liberalisation eliminates restrictions on financial institution and market domestically. This
liberalisation strategy intends to free the flow of capital in and out of a country and encourage
economic development. The purpose of removing restrictions on the market is to allow capital inflows
from developed countries that would finance the emerging market to higher investment and growth,
for insurance against shocks and volatile consumption, and spur development of domestic financial
market. By lifting these financial restrictions, domestic financial market opens up to the international
market allowing market forces to drive the market operation more effectively. In addition, it should
achieve an efficient capital allocation and better sharing of individual risk. Emerging market
economies generally refers to economies in an earlier stage of market development that have recently
opened up to world. Emerging market nations liberalise their financial system with high hope of
economic growth and reduced poverty. Their capability to manage a market liberalisation in order to
enjoy its anticipated benefits is questionable. Being far from a developed country, emerging

The Idea Of Composting Interests Me
Introduction
Compost is organic material that can be added to soil to help plants grow. The concept of composting
interests me. I like how it s simple and has a good effect on the environment. All composting has three
basic ingredients, those are browns, greens and water. Browns consists of materials like dead leaves,
branches and twigs. Greens consists of materials such as grass clippings, vegetable waste, fruit scraps
and coffee grounds. Having the right amount of all three of these ingredients are important for
compost development.
Compost piles should have an equal ratio of browns to greens. Brown materials provide carbon for the
compost. Green materials provide nitrogen. The water provides moisture to help break down the

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington Carver all produced
and promoted the use of compost. In 1905, a British agronomist named Sir Albert Howard spent about
thirty years experimenting with organic gardening and farming. He came to the conclusion that the
best compost consisted of three times as much plant matter as manure and should be layered like a
sandwich, then turned during decomposition. Sir Albert Howard also published a book based on his
work in 1943 called, An Agriculture Testament.
J.I. Rodale built off of Sir Albert Howard s work. He introduced American gardeners to the value of
composting for improving soil quality. Today, organic methods in gardening and farming have become
increasingly popular. The number of farmers and gardeners who had relied on chemical fertilizers are
now realizing the value of compost. They re now realizing that compost is good for plant growth and
restoring nutrients in soil.
Benefits of Composting
Benefits of composting include enriching soil, cleaning up contaminated soil, preventing pollution and
economic benefits as well. Compost helps soil retains moisture. Fertile soil has greater moisture
retention, which means less water would be used in a garden. Compost also decreases plant diseases
and pests.
In addition, compost reduces methane emissions from landfills and lowers our carbon footprint. The
compost process can also eliminate wood preservatives and pesticides. Economic

African-American Organized Crime In The 1930 s
African American Organized Crime Almost most organized crime was ___by Italian, Jewish and Irish
gangsters. African American organized crime emerged because it was able to meet general social
needs (Schatzberg 4). The conditions under which African Americans lived during the Depression and
Prohibition years were dreadful. The economic frustration and the racism that they suffered enabled
them to ___criminal behavior in order to deal with the hostility. Harlem endured greater levels of
poverty, illness, overcrowding and crime compared to other city neighborhoods in 1930. The Harlem
gangs formed out of social unrest and racial inequality and were involved in gambling especially the
numbers game or the policy and also in prostitution, robbery and drugs. During this era there was

Narcotics were at first legal. During the Prohibition, narcotics flowed through the Port of New York in
the 1920s and 1930s (Hortis 130). Traffickers of every ethnicity were involved in the drug trade and
the Jew Arnold Rothstein was the most significant in the 1920s. In the 1930s Italian syndicates
dominated the trade and held their distributions operations in Italian East Harlem. Hoover s
administration tried to deal with the manufacture, sale and use of illicit narcotics and is best portrayed
by the Federal Bureau of Narcotics. In 1930, legislation for a new and independent federal agency
concerned with the problem of illicit narcotics was introduced on June 9 of that year and the
legislation was signed into law by Hoover (James Hawdon, Mark Kleiman). The FBN increased
penalties for drug usage and broaden enforcement measures. Primarily they dealt with curtailment of
opium and heroin smuggling but they also turned their attention to

The Tragic Hero And Butterworth s Johnny Byron
Jez Butterworth undeniably flaunts the conventions of comedy in Jerusalem to create a profound but
amusing philosophical satire, observing and mocking modern society. Morally objectionable ideals
present in everyday life are examined and ridiculed, inevitably leading to the development of morally
objectionable characters and social groups. As a result, Johnny Byron doesn t neatly fit the definitions
of either a tragic hero or a comedic protagonist but instead has traits of the two. He is both an
outrageously hedonistic Falstaffian character whist arousing pity and fear, able to question the
motivation of other characters whilst himself being hubristic and unable to admit error. Despite his
comedic attributes, Byron s character undoubtedly lends itself more to the tragic arc as the audience
witnesses his bloody downfall from relative grace, evoking both pity and disgust.
The most obvious parallel between the Aristotelian tragic hero and Butterworth s Johnny Byron is the
uncovering of his tragic flaw. Throughout the drama Byron demonstrates an inability to move on or
mature, symbolised by his fairly permanent caravan along with the many relics of a time gone by
scattered about his clearing. It s possible that Butterworth intended this to be a metaphor for England
and traditional views of Englishness (most obviously symbolised by a sign reading Waterloo on the
side of the caravan), and that through this satire he is lamenting man s fate as Englishness is lost

Reflection About God
God, as we all know, can be the most loving being since he is love. All throughout the old testament
we see different places where God has shown his love and compassion towards people. One example
of this is when God makes Adam and Eve. God gives them dominion over the earth and everything on
it.
God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them, saying: Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over
the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth. 29 God also
said: See, I give you every seed bearing plant all over the earth and every tree that has seed bearing
fruit on it to be your food; 30 and to all the animals of the land, all the birds of the air, and all the
living creatures that crawl on the ground, I give all the green plants for food. And so it happened. 31
God looked at everything he had made, and he found it very good. Evening came, and morning
followed the sixth day.
As you can see God is willing enough to give an entire planet to two humans who he has created. That
is a lot of love and trust to give someone. God is also willing to give Adam and Eve everything to their
hands. He loves them so much that he does not want them to suffer and work for everything they will
need. This is one example is God s love towards people. Another example of God s love is when God
allows Abraham and Sarah, who can not have children

Hurricane Katrin Disaster Response And Recovery System
Hurricane Katrina has been noted as one of the costliest and deadliest natural disasters in US history.
This paper will exam the city of New Orleans and the preparation, response, and aftermath of
Hurricane Katrina. This catastrophic event shaped the US disaster response and recovery system.
The city of New Orleans is the most populated city in state of Louisiana. Due to the geographical
location, the city was at a significant risk for flooding. New Orleans was originally settled on the
natural levees, along the Mississippi River. The Flood Control Act of 1965, authorized the United
States Army Corps of Engineers to design and construct numerous flood control projects including the
Lake Pontchartrain and Vicinity, Louisiana Hurricane Protection Project in the New Orleans region of
south Louisiana ([PUBLIC LAW 89 298 OCT. 27, 19). Following the implementation of the act, the
US Army Corps of Engineers built floodwalls and man made levees to provide security against
flooding. In the subsequent aftermath of Katrina, studies have shown that the levees were improperly
built and flood water levels estimates were inaccurate during the initial planning phases and
development. As a result, when Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August, 29 2005 the storm caused
a breach in the levees which resulted in 80% of the city flooding. Over 20 feet of water covered
certain parts of the city and New Orleans was declared a disaster area that required extensive recovery
operations. operations.

The actions of Pope Urban II in calling for a military pilgrimage were deeply political, but he was also informed by religious concerns and worries over the moral integrity of Latin Christendom in his decision. A major political dimension that manifests with Urban II preaching the First Crusade is a unification of the Eastern and Western churches.1 While Urban II s address at Clermont does not specifically address this aim, there is some body of evidence to support this as a political aspiration such as how Urban II had been contacted by envoys of the emperor Alexius, who requested military aid.2 While accounts of the address made at Clermont vary, most address the recent loss of territory the Byzantine Empire had experienced, and the depredations made against Eastern Christians. This shows that the beast keeping their chances from returning to civilization brings the boys deeper into savagery because the boys begin to think of survival rather than rescue. When Ralph belittles the hunters that Jack believes is vital to survival now that they cannot be rescued, which causes him to separate and bring about chaos. When the boys think that Simon ... This tragedy looms larger than farce in the United States [and other countries] today (Kozol). Sometimes people will use a respected name but give it the context of an insult, others use terms of endearment to promote or demote someone, and still others use derogatory names. A respected name, can still be used as an insult in the right context. In Henry Louis Gates, Jr. s essay, What s In A Name? it s explained to the point. Hello, Mr. Wilson, I heard my father say. Hello, George. I stopped licking my ice cream cone, and ask my Dad in a loud voice why Mr. Wilson had called him George. Doesn t he know your name, Daddy? Why don t you tell him your name? Your name isn t George. For a moment I tried to think of who Mr. Wilson was mixing Pop up with. But we didn t have any Georges among the colored people in Piedmont; nor were there colored Georges living in the neighboring towns and working at the mill. Tell him your name, Daddy. Essay about Germany and Outbreak of WWI Throughout time wars have ended with the defeat of one force and the victory of another, those on the side of defeat almost always being held accountable for the destruction these wars produce. This is undoubtedly the case with post WWI Germany, burdened with defeat and forced to sign the treaty of Versailles, thus taking responsibility for the war. Although blamed for the war, it is still a highly controversial question between historians if the Germans were truly responsible for WWI. However when studying the actions of Germany as a nation and its leaders in the years leading up to the war, one can see it is quite accurate to say Germany was responsible for the outbreak of World War One. In today s session, Novel to Film Adaptations Empowering the Marginalised Perspective, Frank Darabont s corrupt film adaptation of, The Green Mile, will be exposed as a blatant juxtaposition of Paul Edgecombe s journal on which it is based. Audiences are invited to follow the disturbing experiences and happenings upon the green mile in 1932 at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row. The film constructs Percy Wetmore as cruel, malevolent and aggressive, however, this is contrasted by the reality presented in the journal, through which he portrays characteristics of dedication, determination and intuition. Three scenes evident within both written evidence and film will be pinpointed in today s presentation explaining why my client, Percy Wetmore has been unjustly represented. Firstly, the Squashing of Mr. Jingles, secondly Delacroix s Execution, and thirdly, John Coffey s Arrival. It is apparent through the examination of the character construction of Percy Wetmore within the film, that the representation dehumanizes, exploits and manipulates the actions and intentions of Percy in a manner that is discriminatory. The Squashing of Mr Jingles is a scene in the film which cleverly appeals to the emotions of audiences, and is particularly significant as it further establishes the demonization of Percy. By Jin Ee Ng When financial restrictions bring about nothing but deterioration the economy, the country will opt for a liberalisation to lessen government regulation and restriction in the financial market. Financial market liberalisation eliminates restrictions on financial institution and market domestically. This liberalisation strategy intends to free the flow of capital in and out of a country and encourage economic development. The purpose of removing restrictions on the market is to allow capital inflows from developed countries that would finance the emerging market to higher investment and growth, for insurance against shocks and volatile consumption, and spur development of domestic financial market. By lifting these financial restrictions, domestic financial market opens up to the international market allowing market forces to drive the market operation more effectively. In addition, it should achieve an efficient capital allocation and better sharing of individual risk. Emerging market economies generally refers to economies in an earlier stage of market development that have recently opened up to world. Emerging market nations liberalise their financial system with high hope of economic growth and reduced poverty. Their capability to manage a market liberalisation in order to enjoy its anticipated benefits is questionable. Being far from a developed country, emerging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I like how it s simple and has a good effect on the environment. All composting has three basic ingredients, those are browns, greens and water. Browns consists of materials like dead leaves, branches and twigs. Greens consists of materials such as grass clippings, vegetable waste, fruit scraps and coffee grounds. Having the right amount of all three of these ingredients are important for compost development. Compost piles should have an equal ratio of browns to greens. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington Carver all produced and promoted the use of compost. In 1905, a British agronomist named Sir Albert Howard spent about thirty years experimenting with organic gardening and farming. He came to the conclusion that the best compost consisted of three times as much plant matter as manure and should be layered like a sandwich, then turned during decomposition. Sir Albert Howard also published a book based on his work in 1943 called, An Agriculture Testament. J.I. Rodale built off of Sir Albert Howard s work. He introduced American gardeners to the value of composting for improving soil quality. Today, organic methods in gardening and farming have become increasingly popular. The number of farmers and gardeners who had relied on chemical fertilizers are now realizing the value of compost. They re now realizing that compost is good for plant growth and restoring nutrients in soil. Benefits of Composting Benefits of composting include enriching soil, cleaning up contaminated soil, preventing pollution and economic benefits as well. Compost helps soil retains moisture. Fertile soil has greater moisture retention, which means less water would be used in a garden. Compost also decreases plant diseases and pests. In addition, compost reduces methane emissions from landfills and lowers our carbon footprint. The compost process can also eliminate wood preservatives and pesticides. Economic ... • 30. The Tragic Hero And Butterworth s Johnny Byron Jez Butterworth undeniably flaunts the conventions of comedy in Jerusalem to create a profound but amusing philosophical satire, observing and mocking modern society. Morally objectionable ideals present in everyday life are examined and ridiculed, inevitably leading to the development of morally objectionable characters and social groups. As a result, Johnny Byron doesn t neatly fit the definitions of either a tragic hero or a comedic protagonist but instead has traits of the two. He is both an outrageously hedonistic Falstaffian character whist arousing pity and fear, able to question the motivation of other characters whilst himself being hubristic and unable to admit error. Despite his comedic attributes, Byron s character undoubtedly lends itself more to the tragic arc as the audience witnesses his bloody downfall from relative grace, evoking both pity and disgust. The most obvious parallel between the Aristotelian tragic hero and Butterworth s Johnny Byron is the uncovering of his tragic flaw. Throughout the drama Byron demonstrates an inability to move on or mature, symbolised by his fairly permanent caravan along with the many relics of a time gone by scattered about his clearing. It s possible that Butterworth intended this to be a metaphor for England and traditional views of Englishness (most obviously symbolised by a sign reading Waterloo on the side of the caravan), and that through this satire he is lamenting man s fate as Englishness is lost through ... • 31. Reflection About God God, as we all know, can be the most loving being since he is love. All throughout the old testament we see different places where God has shown his love and compassion towards people. One example of this is when God makes Adam and Eve. God gives them dominion over the earth and everything on it. God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them, saying: Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth. 29 God also said: See, I give you every seed bearing plant all over the earth and every tree that has seed bearing fruit on it to be your food; 30 and to all the animals of the land, all the birds of the air, and all the living creatures that crawl on the ground, I give all the green plants for food. And so it happened. 31 God looked at everything he had made, and he found it very good. Evening came, and morning followed the sixth day. As you can see God is willing enough to give an entire planet to two humans who he has created. That is a lot of love and trust to give someone. God is also willing to give Adam and Eve everything to their hands. He loves them so much that he does not want them to suffer and work for everything they will need. This is one example is God s love towards people. Another example of God s love is when God allows Abraham and Sarah, who can not have children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Hurricane Katrin Disaster Response And Recovery System Hurricane Katrina has been noted as one of the costliest and deadliest natural disasters in US history. This paper will exam the city of New Orleans and the preparation, response, and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This catastrophic event shaped the US disaster response and recovery system. The city of New Orleans is the most populated city in state of Louisiana. Due to the geographical location, the city was at a significant risk for flooding. New Orleans was originally settled on the natural levees, along the Mississippi River. The Flood Control Act of 1965, authorized the United States Army Corps of Engineers to design and construct numerous flood control projects including the Lake Pontchartrain and Vicinity, Louisiana Hurricane Protection Project in the New Orleans region of south Louisiana ([PUBLIC LAW 89 298 OCT. 27, 19). Following the implementation of the act, the US Army Corps of Engineers built floodwalls and man made levees to provide security against flooding. In the subsequent aftermath of Katrina, studies have shown that the levees were improperly built and flood water levels estimates were inaccurate during the initial planning phases and development. As a result, when Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August, 29 2005 the storm caused a breach in the levees which resulted in 80% of the city flooding. Over 20 feet of water covered certain parts of the city and New Orleans was declared a disaster area that required extensive recovery operations. operations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
