Fresh Connections
I am going to conduct a 5 forces analysis of the industry Fresh Connections is involved in, that is to
say the fresh food industry. These forces help us to analyse everything from the intensity of
competition to the profitability and attractiveness of the industry. We are going to use this model to
better understand the industry in which Fresh Connections operates. So, the five forces are rivalry,
buyer power, supplier power, barriers to entry and threat of substitutes.
1) The rivalry among competing sellers
First and foremost, competitive rivalry describes the intensity of competition between existing firms in
an industry. In the fresh food industry, the intensity of rivalry is influenced by different characteristics.

Switching to another competitive product is simple for them because of the competition in the U.S.
food industry. On the other hand, quality and research and development are very important for buyers
like restaurants, and Fresh Connections tries to focus its efforts on this particular segment. There is
significant buyer switching cost because these products are not standardized and buyer cannot easily
switch to an other product. They will have to pay again for development costs to switch the products.
Besides, buyers are quite powerful insofar as substitutes are available, there is good buyer
information, but fresh products are highly differentiated.
3) Competitive pressures stemming from supplier bargaining power and supplier seller collaboration
The supplier power is how much pressure suppliers can place on the business. The fresh food industry
requires raw materials and suppliers. Suppliers, if powerful, can exert an influence on the industry,
such as selling raw materials at a higher price to capture some of the industry s profit. In our industry,
bigger the firms are, more they can negotiate prices with their suppliers. So, it depends on the firm
size but also on its experience and the brand reputation. Moreover, suppliers are not very concentrated.
Firms need many different raw materials like vegetables, fruits, cheeses and meats. They do not have
just one supplier. In this sense, suppliers are not powerful but it tends to reduce volumes.

Information On My Future Career
Recently, I have been using CFNC.org to gather more information on my future career. CFNC.org has
provided me with more knowledge about my future than I could have gotten using Google. One goal
of mine while writing this paper is to show how interested I am about my future. Another goal I do
have is to teach the reader more information about a specific career path. Every individual has their
own career plan, and possibly could be interested in the same career as me. In the CFNC.org website,
there are multiple surveys you can take to get a better feel for what type of career you might like.
During the Career Cluster Survey I honestly had a few difficult decisions. There are tons of questions
so you know your results should be accurate. At the end of your survey you will be shown a poll with
your results. Out of my results, my top three were Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics, Information Technology, and Business Management and Administration. The career I
probably should not go for would consist of Transportation, Distribution and Logistics. With my
results I plan to be a Computer Programmer. CFNC.org also has another survey I took, the Basic
Skills Survey. This survey allows for you to find your best life skills. In all the surveys are questions
that will better help you understand yourself. After you take this survey you will be provided another

Canada Family Structure
Canada is a popular country that neighbors the United States of America and was originally controlled
by the French and British. The nation of Canada has a primarily cold climate and its citizens are
usually stereotyped as friendly and over apologetic. Canada seems to have good relations with many
other countries, which could explain its ethnic and cultural diversity. Despite it s close proximity to
America, the prime family structure of Canada differs slightly. In Canada, there are many families
who don t follow the typical nuclear family structure. A nuclear structure consists of two parents and
their children, while most married couples in Canada do not have children. In Canada in 2011, only
31.9% of family consisted of two parents with children while 35.1% consisted of just a married
couple. Single parents made up 16.3% of the family population, common law couples without children
made up 9.4%, and common law couples without children made up 7.3%. Of all the families with
children, 12.6% were step families. Despite the types of families varying throughout the country of
Canada, many families are reported to be happy and healthy with ... Show more content on

While Canada has been considered a multicultural society since 1971, the family structures don t seem
to change. They all seem to have a majority of their families be the standard nuclear family for a
family consisting of just a married couple. Despite the similarities in structure, the causes seem to
differ between the cultures. While some families may consist of only a married couple due to choice,
others (such as the First Nations ) are part of this structure due to the death of the child/children or the
inability to reproduce. Other Canadian cultures may not have children due to the lack of economic
security. No matter the reason, it seems as though minor cultures are more likely to have a family of
only a married couple than major

The Importance Of Ethical Business Is Not New
The importance of ethical business is not new. Every long term successful business has clearly
understood the need for ethical business practices. There are lessons to be learned, both positive and
negative, from businesses around the world. CEOs must work hard to find a balance between profits
and public image by learning from history, understanding the evolution of business ethics, and
understanding the social responsibility of businesses.
CEOs in the business world today are in a precarious position. They are accountable to shareholders to
keep profits high while avoiding any scandal or implication of shady dealings. CEOs are also
accountable to stakeholders to ensure business practices are acceptable for all parties. Stakeholders are
those that are required to keep an organization functioning, such as employees and customers. It is the
responsibility of top leadership to ensure the success or failure of the organization is not solely judged
by profit margins. Leadership must provide stakeholders with a road map for the organization.
Individual and organizational character is strengthened if the mission of an organization is clear, if
workers have maximum opportunity for growth, and if the larger social conditions allow corporations
to thrive without resorting to underhanded tactics (Terris, 2005). If an organization puts employees
and customers ahead of shareholders, the organization can be more successful in the long run.

Analysis Of The Book Alice s Adventures Essay
Alice s Adventures
AnnaMarie Bethune
Northeast Alabama Community College
Enraged from the recent conversation with her aunt and uncle, Alice storms out the door. Headed to
her usual spot beneath the old Willow near the edge of the forest, she runs full speed down the hill,
hopefully relieving some of her anger. As she stops at the edge of the forest, book in hand, now sitting,
she can t help but notice her veins flooding with adrenaline. She s so mad she can t sit still.
Alice jumps up and begins walking through the woods, at a rather fast pace, she suddenly stops at the
sound of an odd noise. Frozen, she slowly turns to see that there s a rather small cat staring up at her.
As she bends down to pet it, she sees another one, and another, until there are more than thirty cats
surrounding her. Unnerved, Alice sets off at a sprint, hurdling over the rotten log fallen across her
path. Finally, she s outrun them. Alice stops as she comes to a clearing almost tripping over
something. Searching for what she has stumbled into, she sees a glimpse of royal blue covered in thick
layers of weeds and vines. Hastily pulling the vines from their tangled chaos, Alice finally reveals an
old pot . Appeared to be worn and rusting, blue paint chipping, the once gold flowers now brown,
Alice notices a large ceramic plate fitted to the top of the pot. Afraid but curious, she slowly lifts the
side. Not moved for so long, the plate was stuck to the top of the pot. Not only

$71, 266 is too much for many to handle, and the admission requirements are ridiculously strict
(average ACT of 33 and GPA of 4.13), but some will look past these numbers and view all the benefits
Washington University has to offer. WashU offers over 90 fields of study, and offers every degree
available. The city of St. Louis offers a convenient location with plenty of fantastic attractions.
Washington University has numerous amounts of clubs and organizations that can aid students for
their future careers. Lastly, St. Louis has multiple job opportunities available scattered throughout the

The Monetary Policy Is The Rule Of The Interest Rate And...
The monetary policy is controlled by the Central Bank or Federal Reserve, it is the regulation of the
interest rate and money supply of a country. The Bank s monetary policy objective is to deliver price
stability low inflation and, subject to that, to support the Government s economic objectives including
those for growth and employment. Price stability is defined by the Government s inflation target of
2% (Bank of England). One of the most influential econometrics tools to define monetary policy is the
Taylor rule. This rule sets the interest rate above or below some neutral level to a degree which
depends on (i) the difference between current inflation and target inflation, and (ii) the difference
between actual and potential output the output gap (Vickers, 1999, p433). Taylor takes a simplistic
approach and bases his rule on the assumption that the interest rate depends on two definitive
variables; output gap and inflation. A significant rise in either or the two variables would lead to the
central banks responses and attempt to mitigate any economic instabilities.
Initially this rule became prominent in literature and widely accepted by both academics and
practitioners. However, recent financial events such as the crisis which is said to be proceeded to the
stock market crash and large movements in the asset prices in Japan and the United Sates, has lead to
increased scrutiny on the impact of volatility in stock prices and its relationship and impact on

Criminological Theory Of Edwin Sutherland s Differential...
I. Introduction: Differential Association Theory is a criminological theory devised by Edwin
Sutherland asserting that criminal behavior is behavior learned through association with others who
communicate their values and attitudes (Walsh, 559).
Summary:
We live in a world that is full of choices and some individuals believe we have a choice that is made
by ourselves regardless of any influences from outside parties. We have the authority to determine
what is right or wrong for our own lives and we should be held accountable for those decisions.
However, one would believe it s safe to say we live in a world that approaches life with a black or
white perception. Meaning decisions in life are either morally right or morally wrong and ... Show

The world is full of self centered and self absorbed individuals. We are in a digital world where selfies
are more common than group photos and working alone for numerous hours are the latest trend. We
are forbidden to ask for assistance from others because one should be able to provide for themselves.
Walters lifestyle theory can be applied to our society today, in terms of crime isn t a behavior one
choices. Society has a pattern that can alter the course of someone s life and decisions leading them
down a path of criminal history full of irresponsible, impulsive and self indulgent behavior.
II. Differential Association Theory Differential Association Theory was created by Edwin Sutherland,
whose primary goal was to create a theory that could explain both individual criminality and collect
crime rates (Walsh, 186). For crime to occur conditions must be available, if not present crime does
not exist (Walsh, 186). In reading 13, it shows that individuals exposed to criminal activity are more
likely to become involved in criminal acts. Many empirical tests have relied on the number of criminal
associates as evidence of interaction with criminal members within an individual s primary group
(Walsh, 217). The reading on page 141 supports Sutherland s idea that behavior is learned. Kody Scott
was recently a graduate from an elementary school in Los Angeles whose sole purpose in life was to
become a part of a gang known as Eight Trey Crips. Many would argue

Sandro Botticelli (1445 1510)
BIOGRAPHY
Sandro Botticelli, short for Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi, was born on the 1st of March 1445 in The
Republic of Florence which is now Italy. As a child he was easily bored in school and was known for
his hyperactivity and love of practical jokes. At about fourteen years of age, he was withdrawn from
his school and became an apprentice. He first worked for Maso Finiguerra as a goldsmith for 3 years
but soon became an apprentice to the artist Fillipo Lippi at around the age of 17. From Fillipo Lippi he
learned to paint more intricately and with more detail.
He then worked with Antonio del Pollaiuolo, painting frescoes on Florentine cathedrals and churches.
At around 22 years of age he had his own workshop and was appointed to the confraternity of
Florentine painters in 1472. He then employed Filipino Lippi, son of Fillipo Lippi as an apprentice. In
1481 it was requested by the Pope that he come to Rome to decorate the walls of the Sistine Chapel in
the Vatican, which had just been completed. He painted frescoes of the life of Moses and the
temptations of Christ. This was 30 years before Michaelangelo s famous ceiling frescoes. He was very

November Cotton Flower By Jean Toomer Analysis
Jean Toomer s poem November Cotton Flower is a curious narrative work which tells a tale of
surprise and superstition. It chronicles the story of a grim and lifeless November, where water reserves
have dried, birds are dying, and cotton plants are bare. This barren landscape is flipped on its head,
however, when a lone cotton plant defies everything people know about plant growth and sprouts a
flower. The sudden blooming of this flower serves as a potent analogy for the Harlem Renaissance, a
sudden outburst of creation, culture, and connection, that drew millions of African Americans from
across the country. The Harlem Renaissance was a massive beacon of hope for many African
Americans. The great wealth of artistic and social innovations

Planning: The need planning process follows traditional distribution requirements planning (DRP)
principles. The stores provide a forecast for each article for the coming three weeks (after the product
lead time). The forecasts are netted against current stock levels and safety stock requirements at the
stores, and also netted against goods in transit. Thereafter the stores net requirements are aggregated
into distribution centres (DCs) and also here netted against DC stock levels and goods in transit to
replenish the DCs. Each DC Group is thereafter aggregated and the calculated forecasted demand for
the coming 84 weeks is established. Volumes are divided between suppliers based on a so called
Supplier Matrix that determines the split of volumes between different suppliers. One DC SKU could
for example be sourced from two or three predetermined suppliers. 4) Supplier capacity planning: The
need calculation is used to plan capacity requirements at the suppliers. In the general agreements
between IKEA and its suppliers, IKEA often commits to provide a certain volume to a supplier. This is
to make the supplier willing to invest in plants and equipment to produce the desired products.
Furthermore, the supplier communicates a capacity limit to IKEA up to

For mainstream beer consumers, particularly in emerging markets, the most common trade up
proposition is to attractive, local, premium brands.
In markets such as North America and Western Europe, premium beer s share of total sales is already
well above the global average. On the other hand, premium s share of 10.1% in Central and South
Africa and 3.0% in Africa shows the significant opportunity that still exists for premium beer sales in
these regions. There is sizeable potential in Colombia and Brazil where premium beers respectively
claim 3.7% and 5.6% of total sales (Karrenbrock, 1990).
The trend towards premium beer consumption has slowed somewhat in the recent economic
downturn; however, down trading is limited and there are notable instances of consumers continuing
to trade up, both into beer and, within the category, into premium products. Over the past decade, the
beer industry has seen significant consolidation and this trend continued during 2008. On a pro forma
basis, beer sales by the top 10 players now total approximately 65% of total global sales compared to
less than 40% at the start of the century. In recent major developments, the division of Scottish and

The Pros And Cons Of Protective Tariffs
First, one of the restrictions to free trade is tariff. According to Menlo Atherton High School (2015), a
tax that is put on imported goods from abroad is known as tariff. Tariff is used to raise the price of
imported goods so that the domestic producers can sell their similar goods at higher prices. Domestic
government will be the one collecting the money that is received from tariff. Protective tariffs and
revenue tariffs are the types of tariff. Protective tariffs are put on imported goods so that it will be
more expensive. It is used to protect the domestic industries from the competition of foreign firms.
Revenue tariffs are used to raise money for government (Menlo Atherton High School, 2015). The
benefit of tariffs are uneven due to tariff is a tax. Besides that government is benefited, domestic
industries are benefit from it as well due to the reduction of competition from foreign productions. It is
because of the increased prices of the imported products. However, it is unfortunate for the consumers
because the higher price of goods is due to higher import price. Tariff tends to bring advantages for

According to Menlo Atherton High School (2015), a quota is a limit on the number of goods that can
be shipped in. A quota seems like a sensible alternative to a tariff when the intention is to restrict
foreign producers’ access to the domestic market. Importers typically are limited to a maximum
amount of products that they can sell in the home market over specific periods. A quota, similar to a
tariff, causes costs to increase in the home market. This induces domestic producers to increase
production and consumers to reduce consumption. One difference between a tariff and a quota is that
the tariff generates revenue for the government, while the quota generates a revenue gain to the owner
of import licenses. Consequently, foreign producers might capture some of this

The Deer Hunter Analysis
The Deer Hunter is a Vietnam war film directed by Michael Cimino released in 1978. It tracks the
lives of lifelong friends in a small town before and after three of them go to Vietnam. The main male
characters that go to Vietnam are Michael, Nick, and Steven. The beginning of the film shows the kind
of friendship they have with one another before becoming a soldier using up about an hour of
screentime. The middle of the film shows what they went through during the war, the last part of the
film was used to show how they were affected in their lives. What most likely influenced the film like
the many other war films at the time was the relatively recent end of the Vietnam war.
The setting of the film was realistic never did I think while watching that this was something that
wouldn t have happened. The atmosphere suggested that Pennsylvania was a quiet place free from
trouble, while Vietnam was a place full of mayhem and temptations. There was one very blatant
symbol used to foreshadow the events to come. The cups that Steven and his wife drank out of that if
not a single drop was spilled would be good luck for the rest of their lives.
The camera work of the film was executed well. The close ups helped to build the tension during the
Russian roulette scenes. There were very scenic wide shots of the mountains during hunting scenes
that helped contrast the intense scenes of the movie by making those scenes more intense when we see
them because of how tranquil much of the movie

How Different Chemicals Affect Surface Tension
The aim of my experiment was to figure out how different chemicals affect surface tension. I chose
this experiment because I have always wondered how a drop of water stays together as it falls through
the air. My independent variable was the different chemicals used. My dependant variable was which
liquid stayed on the penny best. The control in this experiment was pure water. My hypothesis was; if
water mixed with salt and water mixed with detergent is tested, then detergent will cause the surface
tension to weaken the most. By definition, Surface tension is the property of the surface of a liquid
that allows it to resist an external force, due to the cohesive nature of its molecules (USGS).
Molecules in a drop of water cling to each other. This is why they can stay together as they fall
through the air (Wick 9). In addition, water molecules at the surface of a liquid form stronger bonds
(USGS). This is because they have no adjacent molecules on top of them so they exert more powerful
forces to molecules on and below the surface of a liquid (USGS). For example, water striders can
glide on the surface of water because their mass is not strong enough to break the surface tension
(USGS). The dependent variable in this experiment was, which liquid stayed on the penny best. The
independent variable was the different chemicals used.
Water droplets form spheres because they are pulled by the cohesive forces of the surface layer
(USGS). A drop of water in its smallest size is a

The Metabolic Rate Of An Organism
Abstract: Metabolism is used to refer to all of the chemical reactions involving energy transformations
in the cell of the body, for example cellular activity such as cellular respiration and its sub activtys like
glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and the Electron Transport Chain all produce energy in the form of ATP and a
byproduct of the energy production, heat is also produced . Although the cell is not 100% efficient
thermodynamically, the energy in the form of heat is lost in the cell each time when energy is
produced. Metabolic rates of an organism can be measured directly by the amount of heat lost from
the body in a certain period of time. Another way an organisms metabolic rate can be measured is
indirectly, by measuring the amount of oxygen that is consumed in a given period of time. In the
experiment conducted, we needed to find the metabolic rate of an ectotherm. Using a goldfish
(ectotherm) we calculated the metabolic rate by means of counting the number of operculum beats
when three different goldfish where submerged in various temperatures. What was found is that the
metabolic rate increased when the temperature increased and the metabolic rate decreased as
temperature dropped.
Introduction: Metabolism is a term in which defines all of the chemical reactions involving energy

The Importance of Developing Renewable Energy in Europe
In recent years, Europe has been faced with the problem of continuous urbanization and excessive
energy consumption, closing in on exhaustion of available energy resources. In view of this, the
notions of sustainability and resilience have become paramount in resource management and policy
making. Within such a context, renewable energies play a key role in the global energy pool. Amongst
these, wind energy production accounts for almost half (43%) of the global generating capacity [1].
Nonetheless, despite its obvious merits, the Big Wind industry comes with a number of potential
shortcomings largely relating to the short life span of these components and the lack of efficient
operation and maintenance (Ο Μ) planning schemes. The latter ... Show more content on

Problem specific, cost benefit analyses have not been conducted in detail, in order to provide
significant indications that the benefits of SHM systems outweigh their cost. In this respect, one
should mind that stakeholders, managers and infrastructure operators need simple and reliable tools in
the form of yes/no actions , or green/red buttons . Unavoidably, this implies that SHM systems should
be transformed from complex research oriented measurement campaigns into robust, integrated
solutions that accompany the structure throughout its life cycle. Our goal is to address the
aforementioned bottlenecks, maximizing the return on investment for such facilities by extending the
useable lifetime through a smart monitoring implementation. In a nutshell, the proposed project has
the following main objectives: 1. We will propose a new monitoring paradigm for WT facilities which
features optimal sensor placement, i.e., minimally used instrumentation for extraction of the necessary
amount of key response quantities in an effort to track these systems from cradle to grave. 2. Based on
this sensory feedback and data collection, we will develop data processing methodologies relying on
SHM, for the extraction of metrics for LCA both in the short term (damage, anomalies and extreme
events detection) and in the long term (deterioration, fatigue and defective

Literary Realism Of The Iron Mills And The Yellow...
Literary realism s goal is to invoke compassion within its readers. By learning and experiencing
something of the characters lives in the story, one of the hopes for realism is that by invoking
sympathy within the reader, social injustice may be dealt with. Two examples that use form to reach
the end goal of compassion are Rebecca Harding Davis Life in the Iron Mills and The Yellow
Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Rebecca Harding Davis Life in the Iron Mills uses an
embedded narrative to tell the story of Deb and Hugh, and the daily struggles of Deb s life. Life in the
Iron Mills was written in 1861, two years prior to the Emancipation Proclamation. The goal of this
story is to feel compassion for those in the lower class and to attempt to change the structure of the
American class hierarchy. An unnamed middle class narrator begins the story by describing the town
in which the story takes place. It is described as a town filled with smoke;
The idiosyncrasy of this town is smoke. It rolls sullenly in slow folds from the great chimneys of the
iron foundries, and settles down in black, slimy pools on the muddy streets. Smoke on the wharves,
smoke on the dingy boats, on the yellow river clinging in a coating of greasy soot to the house front,
the two faded poplars, the faces of passers by (3).
Following the description of the hazardous town, the unnamed narrator then proceeds to tell the story
of Deb and Hugh, and how thirty years ago, Hugh was a furnace

Go Ask Alice Addiction
Go Ask Alice is a young adult book written by an anonymous author, and published in 1971. The
novel tells the story of a fourteen year old girl in 1968 who writes about her experiences in a diary.
The unnamed protagonist falls into a life filled with drug addiction, and is forced to deal with the
consequences of it. She creates a life for herself that includes being raped, being bullied and
eventually drugged, and having to become a prostitute to provide for her drug addiction. In both the

Go Ask Alice is a reminder that drugs aren t always what they seem to be in today s society, they can
lead you onto a dark path that could ruin your life, and potentially end it. Because of this, the

Themes In The Namesake By Jhumpa Lahiri
I The Namesake introduces people who leave behind their families and the familiar heat of India to
build a new life in America a cold and a bleak land of strangers. Jhumpa Lahiri weaves a story
spanning three decades of geographically and culturally displaced Bengali family, comprising the
parents Ashoke and Ashima first generation immigrants who had migrated to the U.S.A. from Calcutta
in search of greener pastures and their children Gogol and Sonia the second generation immigrants.
Personal identity is what makes one the person he/she is. It is the way one sees himself and the
network of values and convictions that structure his/her life. At the beginning of The Namesake the
issue of name as a matter of identity is presented. As Ashima s water breaks she calls out to Ashoke,
but does not use his name. It s not the type of thing Bengali wives do. Like a kiss or a caress in a
Hindi movie, a husband s name is something intimate and therefore unspoken, cleverly patched over (
Lahiri 2003: 2). Bengali nomenclature grants every single person two names, a pet name daknam and

Congo’s Era of Damnation
In the year 1885, King Leopold II of Belgium imperialized the Independent State of the Congo.
Leopold set the area up under his own personal rule. His rule was an extremely negative and very
unwanted thing that plunged the area into an era of damnation.
The early history of the congo really starts in 150 AD. The indigenous immigrants to the Congo, who
were most likely Pygmies, had migrated from the northern area to the savannah regions in the south
now called DROC, or Democratic Republic of the Congo (Clarke, John H). These immigrants brought
agriculture, and made iron tools. Moving ahead to 1482, the Portuguese navigator, Diogo Cão visited
the Congo River marking the first ever known European contact with the region. Henry Stanley, a
British explorer is commanded to proclaim King Leopold s rule over the Congo in 1879. This is
followed by European powers at the Berlin Conference who recognised Leopold s claim to the Congo
basin and he announces the establishment of the Congo Free State headed by himself (Democratic
Republic of...), thus beginning Leopold s era of tyranny. Leopold s purpose of controlling the Congo
was for the vast amount of resources such as ivory, rubber, and copper. In 1887, J.B. Dunlop s
invention of inflatable, rubber, bicycle tires and the rapid increase in the popularity of the automobile,
caused the demand for rubber to increase dramatically. Now sensing an opportunity, Leopold issued
three decrees in 1881 and 1882 collectively saying that

The Importance Of Disagreement And Controversy
There are few things as constant in life as disagreements and controversy. Throughout our political
system and our society, disagreements play a sizeable role in our lives. Although disagreements can be
helpful to show different perspectives and ideas, they often bog down our ability to make decisions
and forward progress of ourselves and our nation. For example, debates over topics such as how our
nation should combat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, ISIL, or Daesh) has led to no progress.
Thus, Daesh is able to continue to be able to exercise their grip over society and citizens of many
nations. This has led to numerous consequences and it will continue to lead to more if we remain
unable to come to a consensus on issues. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Society has divulged into a pit of contention over various issues, such as marriage equality, if intrusive

Throughout all of the intense, and sometimes brutal debate on all of the sides of these issues, we
remain no closer to resolving these disputes. Every day that we continue to bicker, fight, and become
inflamed like children. Thus, people continue to become more inflamed with the lack of improvement
and advancement of society. Furthermore, while we continue to drag our feet, our civil liberties are
being eroded away and our lives are being brutalized. As an example, the time that we continue to

there continue to be more deaths resulting from individuals who should probably not have access to
weapons in the first place. Yet, we continue to do nothing about helping these individuals and
preventing them from having access to these weapons. Instead, our society argues that it makes more
sense to strip away the rights of the law abiding citizens because of the few who do not abide by law
rather than provide assistance to the few. Due to all of this, it is apparent that our inability to

Strawberries and Obesity
To the Editor, It is quite noticeable that obesity rates in the United States are continually rising. When
a person is obese, they have an increase risk to diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, various
cancers, etc. (Haslam James 2005). There are countless studies conducted to see the possible effects
obesity can cause to an individual. One study concluded, if two obese individuals have a child, that
child has a high percentage of being obese as well (Kolata 2007). Although there are different methods
to help individuals lose weight, there are different reasons for people not to lose the excess weight.
The most common responses for individual s not to lose weight are, I don t have time to go to the
gym, Workout DVD s are expensive, and Healthy and fresh foods are too expensive for me to buy.
Nevertheless, if there was only one fruit that could possibly help any individual s health dilemma(s),
that fruit should be strawberries. Studying the effects of what strawberries can do to an individual s
health is a relatively new study. Nonetheless, there was a study conducted in Oklahoma, to examine
the effects strawberries had on women who were obese and women who were healthy (Basu et al
2009). For four weeks, the study was preformed; the researchers had the women drink strawberry
flavonoids equivalent to amount of fresh fruit serving everyday (Basu et al 2009). Based off

Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Power Plant
It is no doubt that Nuclear is very powerful and that it can cause some good things to happen but we
can not ignore the horrible things that it has done to our planet and ecosystem. There are two sides to
this argument if we should close nuclear power plants or we shouldn t in my personal opinion I think
that we should close these plants. But before I had to make my decision I had to do some research on
both sides so here is what I found.
One of the pros of Nuclear power is that, if we use Nuclear Power then we will use Fossil Fuels a lot
less than we normally use them, and this would help stop the greenhouse gases from going into the air.
(CO2 and others.) Also, another good thing about Nuclear power is that it is low operation costs,
nuclear power produces very inexpensive electricity. Also, even though the expense of setting up
nuclear power plants is moderately high, the expense of running them is quite low. These Nuclear
plants can be shut down if other resources are to be very high and when they are not in high demand
then the Nuclear plant can be up and running again. But then again, Nuclear power gives us new ways
to defend ourselves for wars for the future since we have used it in the past. However, the normal life
of nuclear reactor is anywhere from 40 60 years, depending on how often it is used and how it is being
used. Even if we run out of Nuclear power then we might be able to still use the fission reaction to
make more reliable resources in the future

that require different elements to be proved into a single count, Plaintiffs rely on stale case law that is
at least sixty five years old. Although they acknowledge that section 2 603(b) requires a separate cause

Plaintiffs Waived their Constructive Eviction Claim In a constructive eviction claim, the tenant has the
burden of showing that the premises was abandoned within a reasonable time. Dell Armi v. Johnston,
172 Ill. App. 3d 144, 149 (1st Dist. 1980). Here, it is undisputed that Plaintiffs (a) continued to live in
the premises for fifteen months after first complaining about the condition of the property, and (b)
renewed the lease term. Even if Nenn s status as a single mother warranted additional time to locate a
new residence, it surely does not excuse waiting more than a year to vacate the premises and renewing
the lease term. Plaintiffs argument that any waiver of a prior alleged breach did not result in waiver of
their constructive eviction claim for each subsequent breach also falls short. As Plaintiffs recognize,
the lease obligated Defendants to make repairs within 60 days of receiving notice. See Apartment
Lease, ¶¶ 6.B, G.D, and 14.B. Pursuant to Plaintiffs allegations, in early January 2014, Plaintiffs
informed Defendants of conditions of alleged disrepair in the premises. (3rd Am. Compl. ¶¶ 38 39.) As
a result, Plaintiffs had until early March 2014 to make the necessary repairs. Instead of vacating the
premises within a reasonable time of that date, Plaintiffs renewed the lease term and remained in the
premsespremises for an additional seven months. Thereafter, Plaintiffs did not notify Defendants of
any other conditions of disrepair until August 23, 2014, when they allegedly advised Defendants of a

The Role Of Women During The Patriarchy Society
The roles of women during the Patriarchy Society influenced feminism throughout Shelley s novel.
Each individual woman in Frankenstein fulfilled a different role, therefore being seen in a unique way
through the eyes of society in the story. This can be displayed through the actions of Agatha towards
Felix when the monster states, Soon after this the young man returned, bearing on his shoulder a load
of wood. The girl met him at the door and helped relieve him of his burden (page 97). This illustrates
feminism through the view of the woman feeling that it was her duty to help the man of the house.
Feeling that she needed to assist Felix, Agatha demonstrates the role that women play in a feminist
environment. These specific roles are positively viewed through the eyes of each individual, as seen
when Safie recalls the memories of her mother. The monster narrates, Safie related that her mother
was a Christian Arab, seized and made a slave by the Turks; recommended by her beauty, she had won
the heart of the father of Safie, who married her (page 110). He states how the young girl spoke in
high and enthusiastic terms of her mother, who born in freedom, spurned the bondage to which she
was now reduced (page 110) which in turn clearly illustrates how much Safie adores her mother. The
role of feminism in this situation is positive due to the viewpoint being from another woman.
Similarly, this role is also displayed when Justine stands trial for the murder of Henry Clerval.

Why Is Romeo And Juliet Not In Love
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is widely known as a tragic love story where two lovers devotion
leads to their demise. While the play leads the audience to believe that Romeo and Juliet are truly in
love, certain details from the play suggest otherwise. For example, the whole reason they commit
suicide is because of their lustful thinking and not of true love. Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love
because they rush into things unprepared, Romeo was just in love with Rosaline, and they think about
themselves throughout this predicament. Romeo and Juliet rush into this relationship with each other,
without thinking about the long term outcome, which conveys their lustful thinking. Therefore, they
only think about the here and now. In Scene 3 of Act 2, it says, When and where and how/ We met, we
wooed and made exchange of vow,/ I ll tell thee as we pass, but this I pray:/ That thou consent to
marry us today (Shakespeare, 2.3.61 64). At this point in the play, Romeo is asking Friar Laurence to

Characteristics Of Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman Finally Flying! When you think of superheroes you think of heroes such as Batman,
Superman, or the Flash, but one hero that was left in the shadow was Wonder Woman. Wonder
Woman has struggled for years to get off the ground even with her invisible jet. She has had this
ongoing struggle because of her constant comparison with her male counterparts such as Batman,
Superman, and the Flash.
Although superheroes are fictional they all have their own unique backstories. Wonder Woman has a
very different backstory than her male counterparts. Wonder Woman was born onto Paradise Island to

entire life on the island with the other Amazon women. Wonder Woman then found her way into the

extremely important to all areas in different ways. For example, geography can affect an area
drastically, whether a country has sea, mountains, or rich farming land, each area is different. For
example, Athens and Sparta were two areas that were drastically different. The two differed greatly
due to isolation because of the tall mountains that were difficult to communicate over. Because it was
difficult to communicate and travel due to the mountains, each civilization ... Show more content on

For example living in Sparta becoming a farmer is much more likely then living in Athens and
becoming a farmer due to the differences in there soil. All areas around the world had specific
characteristics that influenced their civilizations, for example the Peninsula of Greece. Greece had two
distinguishing characteristics that influenced how the area began: easy access to water and a very
mountainous region. Being very close to the water, Greece was able to trade with their neighbors. Also
because Greece was so close to water, the land contained many islands, harbors, and rivers. Since the
people of Greece had easy access to water, it was more likely for them to become traders and
explorers then in other places that were not located near a sea. Also because eighty percent of Greece
was mountainous, it was strongly affected by the mountains. For example, the development of the
Polis, also known as a city state, was due to the mountains. Also, the very tall mountains made it
strenuous to travel and hard to communicate. Because of this, each city state was not only the basis for
how people organized themselves but also created very different civilizations due to the isolation, like
Athens and Sparta. The geography of an area affects how it is developed and also

Disadvantages Of Anarrchism
Coming from the Greek words outopia (meaning nowhere ) and eutopia (meaning good place ),
Utopianism is the idea of a perfect society. Although visions of this perfect society vary, most can be
characterised by an abolishment of exploitation, greed and conflict. Utopianism is often most
associated with Anarchism and because of this, many critics are often quick to deem the ideology
idealistic and unattainable. However this view of Anarchism is, in fact, over simplified itself, and as a
wider philosophy Anarchism can be broken into much smaller strands all with varying degrees of
utopian belief.
One of the main reasons that anarchism is often associated with utopianism, is that both are founded
on the principle belief of the unlimited possibilities of human nature and self development. This
theory actively rejects the social contract theory of Locke and Hobbes which believes that human
nature is selfish, greedy and aggressive and thus believes the state is necessary for a secure life.
Instead, anarchists believe that social order will arise naturally as humans have the ability to organise
their own lives in a harmonious way and reject the idea that the state is necessary. In fact, anarchist
ideology states that all authority is evil and it is such, which corrupts those within it and in the words
of Lord Acton, power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. . Although anarchists
believe in the possibility of human goodness, they also recognise that

Sexism And Equality
The fight women s rights and equality has been an ongoing theme throughout history. Much like
racism, sexism limits a person based on a physicality they cannot control. Its uncivilized and brings a
huge uproar and controversy in its path. For years there has been groups and protests to change the
course of sexism and change it for the better. Admittedly, it has improved, but as a society we are far
from equality.
According to Martin Luther King, there a four steps to accomplish a peaceful protest. The first step of
that process is gathering facts to determine if there is an unjustification. There has been a debate on
whether or not if sexism is still prevalent. However, since it is even up for debate, that goes to show
sexism is still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much like how Mohandas Gandhi made salt from seawater to protest against the Salt Act, a direct yet
peaceful direct action must be made to seal the deal per say. Direct action can have a bug effect from a
small action. Additionally, a small action can turn into a big deal. For example, on April 21st of every
year there is the Day of Silence . This is a form of peaceful protest to bring awareness to the silencing
of LGBT people and many also use it as a day or mourning to those lost to homophobia. Interesting
enough, there actually was one of the largest direct action protests for women s rights this year on
March 8th. There was an estimated amount of 470,000, three times as many people to attend Trumps
Inauguration. (according to New York Times Tim Wallace and Alice Parlapiano Crowd Scientists Say
Women s March in Washington Had 3 Times as Many People as Trump s Inauguration ) The Woman s
March is known as the largest peaceful protest to date in American history. Which, personally, marks
the year 2017 as a turning point. This is our direct action and the final step of Dr. King s

Core Concert Dance
The CORE Concert Dance Company show presented the dance style of contemporary with the
addition to aerial choreography. The dancers presented many movements through the use of their
bodies that stemmed from choreography in ballet and modern dance moves. With contemporary being
my all time favorite style, the dancers provided a sense of freedom, expression, and unpredictability in
the ways they articulated the movement of the body itself and the objects that were used. In many of
the different pieces that were shown, I noticed that many of the dancers movements in the
choreography involved the torso. The use the torso enabled me to capture the movement of relaxation
that gave off a sense of fluidity and ease through the transition of the next ... Show more content on

The movement related to the four core principles: personal style, improvisation, dynamic play, and a
deep connection to the music in order to convey an expression and a sense of rhythmic movement.
During the performance there were a lot of joyousness and call and response in the choreography. The
areas that contained these social elements were when the dancers were suspended in the air while
doing aerial and partner work on the floor. Throughout the entire show the use of the kinetic elements
such as a bent knee, body part isolations and the use of a flat foot gave an insight on how much
training a dancer had. The aerial dancers especially displayed body isolations when they had to do
splits and hold on to the ropes with one hand while in the air. Without the isolations in the body
movement and the control of the dancers, aerial work would be very difficult to manage since it
requires control and articulation of certain body parts. Contemporary dance can be thought of as jazz
derived or jazz influenced, but jazz will always remain strict on what the movement is supposed to be
and how it supposed to be articulated. One of the main differences between contemporary and jazz is
that in jazz gravity is felt a different way. In contemporary there is an urge to give into gravity such

First Day After Thanksgiving Research Paper
The next day after Thanksgiving, which always is on the fourth Thursday of November, is called
Black Friday and it usually marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. It has come to be
known as the busiest shopping day of the year.
The origin of this phrase has its roots in the 20th century. The first mention of Black Friday appeared
for the first time in 1951 in a newspaper referring to the habit of workers to call in sick after
thanksgiving, in order to earn a four day weekend. After approximately 10 years, the term has come to
be used by the Philadelphia police to describe the chaos caused by pedestrians, shoppers and traffic
jams on the day after Thanksgiving.
As we mentioned already, this event is branded as the beginning of the holiday shopping season, since
Christmas is the next major holiday after Thanksgiving. In the United States of America, in the bigger
cities, on Thanksgiving Day there are parades where people gather to see the balloons, performances
and marching bands. These parades are sponsored by important department stores, the most known
being the Macy s Parade, which happens in New York City, becoming a symbol of the holiday. The
businesses were trying to use it, in the early 20th century as a big advertisement push, eventually an
unwritten rule ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would prepare extensive lists with huge discounts and make them public in order to allow the
individuals to make plans and set aside a budget. Another phenomenon linked with this event is Cyber
Monday, which has been invented in 2005 to describe the bargains that were found on online websites
after Black Friday and Thanksgiving. One more day has come to be known as an online shopping day,
namely Singles Day, promoted by the huge Chinese online retailer Alibaba, which, in 2015, became
the biggest online shopping day in history, Chinese consumers spending

Locavore Movement Essay
The Locavore Movement The locavore movement has become increasingly popular over the last
decade. Locavores are people who prefer to eat food that is locally grown and doesn t travel long
distances before getting to their plates. This thought process is slowly changing the way people eat
and the ideals people consider when choosing food to eat. Along with this fresh perspective on where
our food comes from, the movement provides a innovative ideal towards what is sustainable and what
is not sustainable. While the definition of local is dependent on the buyer the effect is the same. The
locavore movement has a positive impact on the local communities through improving the income and
number of local farms that fosters good communities, and increasing the nutritional value of food
eaten. With an increase of interest in local communities and their economies, any businesses involved
in the community will benefit. Since the locavore movement began there have been tremendous
improvements on the income local farms receive. In a study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In reality this movement, while for the time being, is considered a trend the movement is growing into
a way of life. As stated by Anthony Flaccavento These are ordinary, middle income folks who have
become really engaged in food and really care where their food comes from. (Source E) This interest
in where food comes from does not mean that they are attempting to be, as Flaccavento so beautifully
put it, a fringe foodie culture . It is a group of ordinary people that are invested in the origin and the
nutritional value of their own food. While for some people just knowing the story of their food makes
them more comfortable with what they re putting into their bodies rather than having to wonder what
the food was grown in and what happened to it in the long trip from crop fields to factories to super

The And Sustainability Of The Pioneer River Catchment
1.0 Introduction
Catchments are depended on by the average household person, but even more valuable to the farmers
that are supplying the food to our nation. Therefore, action must be taken to ensure that the catchments
in our areas are healthy and will be able to be depended on for years to come. The panel at Healthy
Water Ways program has developed a study to guarantee the management and sustainability of The
Pioneer River catchment, by sending a team out to analyze the health of the water ways and decide on
a proposal that best suits the area to ensure future healthiness of the basin.
1.1 Background
The Pioneer River is a 120km river which is located in Northern Queensland, Australia and flows
through the city of Mackay. This river ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using the two proposals given; More signage around the catchment area detailing how important the
health of the river is and the cause of negative impact will incur a $1000 fine or the employment of an
officer to patrol the wetlands and clean up littler, rubbish control weeds and report back on the health
of the creeks. One will be chosen that best suits this catchment and an outline of details will be
provided.
1.3 Methodology
This report is based upon the collected data from scientific tests and different data collection
experiments, these diverse range of observations helped in determining the health of the river and
catchment as a whole. The experiments tested a range of variables, some including; the levels of
nitrates, phosphates, temperature of water, pH levels, turbidity of water and dissolved solids. The
collection of water and recordings of microorganisms was examined and also recorded. As well as
these scientific tests, simple recordings were also taken of the surrounding area and the amounts of
rubbish and infrastructure that could be seen. The tests conducted in the river system occurred on the
24th of May 2016, to conduct the tests the trail along the river was walked, furthering the knowledge
of the health of the river and how the the catchment area as a whole was fairing. However, some
differences to the data could be assumed as when tested it was not always done by the same person,
this could have then limited the accuracy. Another

These forces help us to analyse everything from the intensity of competition to the profitability and attractiveness of the industry. We are going to use this model to better understand the industry in which Fresh Connections operates. So, the five forces are rivalry, buyer power, supplier power, barriers to entry and threat of substitutes. 1) The rivalry among competing sellers First and foremost, competitive rivalry describes the intensity of competition between existing firms in an industry. In the fresh food industry, the intensity of rivalry is influenced by different characteristics. Price ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Switching to another competitive product is simple for them because of the competition in the U.S. food industry. On the other hand, quality and research and development are very important for buyers like restaurants, and Fresh Connections tries to focus its efforts on this particular segment. There is significant buyer switching cost because these products are not standardized and buyer cannot easily switch to an other product. They will have to pay again for development costs to switch the products. Besides, buyers are quite powerful insofar as substitutes are available, there is good buyer information, but fresh products are highly differentiated. 3) Competitive pressures stemming from supplier bargaining power and supplier seller collaboration The supplier power is how much pressure suppliers can place on the business. The fresh food industry requires raw materials and suppliers. Suppliers, if powerful, can exert an influence on the industry, such as selling raw materials at a higher price to capture some of the industry s profit. In our industry, bigger the firms are, more they can negotiate prices with their suppliers. So, it depends on the firm size but also on its experience and the brand reputation. Moreover, suppliers are not very concentrated. Firms need many different raw materials like vegetables, fruits, cheeses and meats. They do not have just one supplier. In this sense, suppliers are not powerful but it tends to reduce volumes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The nation of Canada has a primarily cold climate and its citizens are usually stereotyped as friendly and over apologetic. Canada seems to have good relations with many other countries, which could explain its ethnic and cultural diversity. Despite it s close proximity to America, the prime family structure of Canada differs slightly. In Canada, there are many families who don t follow the typical nuclear family structure. A nuclear structure consists of two parents and their children, while most married couples in Canada do not have children. In Canada in 2011, only 31.9% of family consisted of two parents with children while 35.1% consisted of just a married couple. Single parents made up 16.3% of the family population, common law couples without children made up 9.4%, and common law couples without children made up 7.3%. There are lessons to be learned, both positive and negative, from businesses around the world. CEOs must work hard to find a balance between profits and public image by learning from history, understanding the evolution of business ethics, and understanding the social responsibility of businesses. CEOs in the business world today are in a precarious position. They are accountable to shareholders to keep profits high while avoiding any scandal or implication of shady dealings. CEOs are also accountable to stakeholders to ensure business practices are acceptable for all parties. Stakeholders are those that are required to keep an organization functioning, such as employees and customers. It is the responsibility of top leadership to ensure the success or failure of the organization is not solely judged by profit margins. Leadership must provide stakeholders with a road map for the organization. Individual and organizational character is strengthened if the mission of an organization is clear, if workers have maximum opportunity for growth, and if the larger social conditions allow corporations to thrive without resorting to underhanded tactics (Terris, 2005). If an organization puts employees and customers ahead of shareholders, the organization can be more successful in the long run. Employees that feel wanted and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book Alice s Adventures Essay Alice s Adventures AnnaMarie Bethune Northeast Alabama Community College Enraged from the recent conversation with her aunt and uncle, Alice storms out the door. Headed to her usual spot beneath the old Willow near the edge of the forest, she runs full speed down the hill, hopefully relieving some of her anger. As she stops at the edge of the forest, book in hand, now sitting, she can t help but notice her veins flooding with adrenaline. She s so mad she can t sit still. Alice jumps up and begins walking through the woods, at a rather fast pace, she suddenly stops at the sound of an odd noise. Frozen, she slowly turns to see that there s a rather small cat staring up at her. As she bends down to pet it, she sees another one, and another, until there are more than thirty cats surrounding her. Unnerved, Alice sets off at a sprint, hurdling over the rotten log fallen across her path. Finally, she s outrun them. Alice stops as she comes to a clearing almost tripping over something. Searching for what she has stumbled into, she sees a glimpse of royal blue covered in thick layers of weeds and vines. Hastily pulling the vines from their tangled chaos, Alice finally reveals an old pot . Appeared to be worn and rusting, blue paint chipping, the once gold flowers now brown, Alice notices a large ceramic plate fitted to the top of the pot. Afraid but curious, she slowly lifts the side. • 11. The Monetary Policy Is The Rule Of The Interest Rate And... The monetary policy is controlled by the Central Bank or Federal Reserve, it is the regulation of the interest rate and money supply of a country. The Bank s monetary policy objective is to deliver price stability low inflation and, subject to that, to support the Government s economic objectives including those for growth and employment. Price stability is defined by the Government s inflation target of 2% (Bank of England). One of the most influential econometrics tools to define monetary policy is the Taylor rule. This rule sets the interest rate above or below some neutral level to a degree which depends on (i) the difference between current inflation and target inflation, and (ii) the difference between actual and potential output the output gap (Vickers, 1999, p433). Taylor takes a simplistic approach and bases his rule on the assumption that the interest rate depends on two definitive variables; output gap and inflation. A significant rise in either or the two variables would lead to the central banks responses and attempt to mitigate any economic instabilities. Initially this rule became prominent in literature and widely accepted by both academics and practitioners. However, recent financial events such as the crisis which is said to be proceeded to the stock market crash and large movements in the asset prices in Japan and the United Sates, has lead to increased scrutiny on the impact of volatility in stock prices and its relationship and impact on ... Introduction: Differential Association Theory is a criminological theory devised by Edwin Sutherland asserting that criminal behavior is behavior learned through association with others who communicate their values and attitudes (Walsh, 559). Summary: We live in a world that is full of choices and some individuals believe we have a choice that is made by ourselves regardless of any influences from outside parties. We have the authority to determine what is right or wrong for our own lives and we should be held accountable for those decisions. However, one would believe it s safe to say we live in a world that approaches life with a black or white perception. Meaning decisions in life are either morally right or morally wrong and ... Walters lifestyle theory can be applied to our society today, in terms of crime isn t a behavior one choices. Society has a pattern that can alter the course of someone s life and decisions leading them down a path of criminal history full of irresponsible, impulsive and self indulgent behavior. II. Differential Association Theory Differential Association Theory was created by Edwin Sutherland, whose primary goal was to create a theory that could explain both individual criminality and collect crime rates (Walsh, 186). For crime to occur conditions must be available, if not present crime does not exist (Walsh, 186). In reading 13, it shows that individuals exposed to criminal activity are more likely to become involved in criminal acts. Many empirical tests have relied on the number of criminal associates as evidence of interaction with criminal members within an individual s primary group (Walsh, 217). The reading on page 141 supports Sutherland s idea that behavior is learned. For mainstream beer consumers, particularly in emerging markets, the most common trade up proposition is to attractive, local, premium brands. In markets such as North America and Western Europe, premium beer s share of total sales is already well above the global average. On the other hand, premium s share of 10.1% in Central and South Africa and 3.0% in Africa shows the significant opportunity that still exists for premium beer sales in these regions. There is sizeable potential in Colombia and Brazil where premium beers respectively claim 3.7% and 5.6% of total sales (Karrenbrock, 1990). The trend towards premium beer consumption has slowed somewhat in the recent economic downturn; however, down trading is limited and there are notable instances of consumers continuing to trade up, both into beer and, within the category, into premium products. Domestic government will be the one collecting the money that is received from tariff. Protective tariffs and revenue tariffs are the types of tariff. It tracks the lives of lifelong friends in a small town before and after three of them go to Vietnam. The main male characters that go to Vietnam are Michael, Nick, and Steven. The beginning of the film shows the kind of friendship they have with one another before becoming a soldier using up about an hour of screentime. The middle of the film shows what they went through during the war, the last part of the film was used to show how they were affected in their lives. What most likely influenced the film like the many other war films at the time was the relatively recent end of the Vietnam war. The setting of the film was realistic never did I think while watching that this was something that wouldn t have happened. The atmosphere suggested that Pennsylvania was a quiet place free from trouble, while Vietnam was a place full of mayhem and temptations. There was one very blatant symbol used to foreshadow the events to come. The cups that Steven and his wife drank out of that if not a single drop was spilled would be good luck for the rest of their lives. The camera work of the film was executed well. • 22. How Different Chemicals Affect Surface Tension The aim of my experiment was to figure out how different chemicals affect surface tension. I chose this experiment because I have always wondered how a drop of water stays together as it falls through the air. My independent variable was the different chemicals used. My dependant variable was which liquid stayed on the penny best. The control in this experiment was pure water. My hypothesis was; if water mixed with salt and water mixed with detergent is tested, then detergent will cause the surface tension to weaken the most. By definition, Surface tension is the property of the surface of a liquid that allows it to resist an external force, due to the cohesive nature of its molecules (USGS). Molecules in a drop of water cling to each other. This is why they can stay together as they fall through the air (Wick 9). In addition, water molecules at the surface of a liquid form stronger bonds (USGS). This is because they have no adjacent molecules on top of them so they exert more powerful forces to molecules on and below the surface of a liquid (USGS). For example, water striders can glide on the surface of water because their mass is not strong enough to break the surface tension (USGS). The dependent variable in this experiment was, which liquid stayed on the penny best. The independent variable was the different chemicals used. Water droplets form spheres because they are pulled by the cohesive forces of the surface layer (USGS). A drop of water in its smallest size is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Metabolic Rate Of An Organism Abstract: Metabolism is used to refer to all of the chemical reactions involving energy transformations in the cell of the body, for example cellular activity such as cellular respiration and its sub activtys like glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and the Electron Transport Chain all produce energy in the form of ATP and a byproduct of the energy production, heat is also produced . Although the cell is not 100% efficient thermodynamically, the energy in the form of heat is lost in the cell each time when energy is produced. Metabolic rates of an organism can be measured directly by the amount of heat lost from the body in a certain period of time. Another way an organisms metabolic rate can be measured is indirectly, by measuring the amount of oxygen that is consumed in a given period of time. In the experiment conducted, we needed to find the metabolic rate of an ectotherm. Using a goldfish (ectotherm) we calculated the metabolic rate by means of counting the number of operculum beats when three different goldfish where submerged in various temperatures. What was found is that the metabolic rate increased when the temperature increased and the metabolic rate decreased as temperature dropped. Introduction: Metabolism is a term in which defines all of the chemical reactions involving energy production. Some of these chemical reactions involve cellular respiration by which is the series of metabolic process by which living cells produce energy through the oxidation of organic ... The Importance of Developing Renewable Energy in Europe In recent years, Europe has been faced with the problem of continuous urbanization and excessive energy consumption, closing in on exhaustion of available energy resources. In view of this, the notions of sustainability and resilience have become paramount in resource management and policy making. Within such a context, renewable energies play a key role in the global energy pool. Amongst these, wind energy production accounts for almost half (43%) of the global generating capacity [1]. Nonetheless, despite its obvious merits, the Big Wind industry comes with a number of potential shortcomings largely relating to the short life span of these components and the lack of efficient operation and maintenance (Ο Μ) planning schemes. Unavoidably, this implies that SHM systems should be transformed from complex research oriented measurement campaigns into robust, integrated solutions that accompany the structure throughout its life cycle. Our goal is to address the aforementioned bottlenecks, maximizing the return on investment for such facilities by extending the useable lifetime through a smart monitoring implementation. In a nutshell, the proposed project has the following main objectives: 1. We will propose a new monitoring paradigm for WT facilities which features optimal sensor placement, i.e., minimally used instrumentation for extraction of the necessary amount of key response quantities in an effort to track these systems from cradle to grave. 2. • 26. Literary Realism Of The Iron Mills And The Yellow... Literary realism s goal is to invoke compassion within its readers. By learning and experiencing something of the characters lives in the story, one of the hopes for realism is that by invoking sympathy within the reader, social injustice may be dealt with. Two examples that use form to reach the end goal of compassion are Rebecca Harding Davis Life in the Iron Mills and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Rebecca Harding Davis Life in the Iron Mills uses an embedded narrative to tell the story of Deb and Hugh, and the daily struggles of Deb s life. Life in the Iron Mills was written in 1861, two years prior to the Emancipation Proclamation. The goal of this story is to feel compassion for those in the lower class and to attempt to change the structure of the American class hierarchy. An unnamed middle class narrator begins the story by describing the town in which the story takes place. It is described as a town filled with smoke; The idiosyncrasy of this town is smoke. It rolls sullenly in slow folds from the great chimneys of the iron foundries, and settles down in black, slimy pools on the muddy streets. Smoke on the wharves, smoke on the dingy boats, on the yellow river clinging in a coating of greasy soot to the house front, the two faded poplars, the faces of passers by (3). Themes In The Namesake By Jhumpa Lahiri I The Namesake introduces people who leave behind their families and the familiar heat of India to build a new life in America a cold and a bleak land of strangers. Jhumpa Lahiri weaves a story spanning three decades of geographically and culturally displaced Bengali family, comprising the parents Ashoke and Ashima first generation immigrants who had migrated to the U.S.A. from Calcutta in search of greener pastures and their children Gogol and Sonia the second generation immigrants. Personal identity is what makes one the person he/she is. It is the way one sees himself and the network of values and convictions that structure his/her life. At the beginning of The Namesake the issue of name as a matter of identity is presented. As Ashima s water breaks she calls out to Ashoke, but does not use his name. It s not the type of thing Bengali wives do. Like a kiss or a caress in a Hindi movie, a husband s name is something intimate and therefore unspoken, cleverly patched over ( Lahiri 2003: 2). His rule was an extremely negative and very unwanted thing that plunged the area into an era of damnation. The early history of the congo really starts in 150 AD. The indigenous immigrants to the Congo, who were most likely Pygmies, had migrated from the northern area to the savannah regions in the south now called DROC, or Democratic Republic of the Congo (Clarke, John H). These immigrants brought agriculture, and made iron tools. Moving ahead to 1482, the Portuguese navigator, Diogo Cão visited the Congo River marking the first ever known European contact with the region. Henry Stanley, a British explorer is commanded to proclaim King Leopold s rule over the Congo in 1879. This is followed by European powers at the Berlin Conference who recognised Leopold s claim to the Congo basin and he announces the establishment of the Congo Free State headed by himself (Democratic Republic of...), thus beginning Leopold s era of tyranny. Leopold s purpose of controlling the Congo was for the vast amount of resources such as ivory, rubber, and copper. In 1887, J.B. Dunlop s invention of inflatable, rubber, bicycle tires and the rapid increase in the popularity of the automobile, caused the demand for rubber to increase dramatically. When a person is obese, they have an increase risk to diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, various cancers, etc. (Haslam James 2005). There are countless studies conducted to see the possible effects obesity can cause to an individual. One study concluded, if two obese individuals have a child, that child has a high percentage of being obese as well (Kolata 2007). Although there are different methods to help individuals lose weight, there are different reasons for people not to lose the excess weight. The most common responses for individual s not to lose weight are, I don t have time to go to the gym, Workout DVD s are expensive, and Healthy and fresh foods are too expensive for me to buy. Nevertheless, if there was only one fruit that could possibly help any individual s health dilemma(s), that fruit should be strawberries. Studying the effects of what strawberries can do to an individual s health is a relatively new study. Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Power Plant It is no doubt that Nuclear is very powerful and that it can cause some good things to happen but we can not ignore the horrible things that it has done to our planet and ecosystem. There are two sides to this argument if we should close nuclear power plants or we shouldn t in my personal opinion I think that we should close these plants. But before I had to make my decision I had to do some research on both sides so here is what I found. One of the pros of Nuclear power is that, if we use Nuclear Power then we will use Fossil Fuels a lot less than we normally use them, and this would help stop the greenhouse gases from going into the air. (CO2 and others.) Also, another good thing about Nuclear power is that it is low operation costs, nuclear power produces very inexpensive electricity. Also, even though the expense of setting up nuclear power plants is moderately high, the expense of running them is quite low. These Nuclear plants can be shut down if other resources are to be very high and when they are not in high demand then the Nuclear plant can be up and running again. But then again, Nuclear power gives us new ways to defend ourselves for wars for the future since we have used it in the past. However, the normal life of nuclear reactor is anywhere from 40 60 years, depending on how often it is used and how it is being used. Johnston, 172 Ill. App. 3d 144, 149 (1st Dist. 1980). Here, it is undisputed that Plaintiffs (a) continued to live in the premises for fifteen months after first complaining about the condition of the property, and (b) renewed the lease term. Even if Nenn s status as a single mother warranted additional time to locate a new residence, it surely does not excuse waiting more than a year to vacate the premises and renewing the lease term. Plaintiffs argument that any waiver of a prior alleged breach did not result in waiver of their constructive eviction claim for each subsequent breach also falls short. As Plaintiffs recognize, the lease obligated Defendants to make repairs within 60 days of receiving notice. See Apartment Lease, ¶¶ 6.B, G.D, and 14.B. • 40. The Role Of Women During The Patriarchy Society The roles of women during the Patriarchy Society influenced feminism throughout Shelley s novel. Each individual woman in Frankenstein fulfilled a different role, therefore being seen in a unique way through the eyes of society in the story. This can be displayed through the actions of Agatha towards Felix when the monster states, Soon after this the young man returned, bearing on his shoulder a load of wood. The girl met him at the door and helped relieve him of his burden (page 97). This illustrates feminism through the view of the woman feeling that it was her duty to help the man of the house. Feeling that she needed to assist Felix, Agatha demonstrates the role that women play in a feminist environment. These specific roles are positively viewed through the eyes of each individual, as seen when Safie recalls the memories of her mother. The monster narrates, Safie related that her mother was a Christian Arab, seized and made a slave by the Turks; recommended by her beauty, she had won the heart of the father of Safie, who married her (page 110). He states how the young girl spoke in high and enthusiastic terms of her mother, who born in freedom, spurned the bondage to which she was now reduced (page 110) which in turn clearly illustrates how much Safie adores her mother. The role of feminism in this situation is positive due to the viewpoint being from another woman. Similarly, this role is also displayed when Justine stands trial for the murder of Henry Clerval. ... For example living in Sparta becoming a farmer is much more likely then living in Athens and becoming a farmer due to the differences in there soil. All areas around the world had specific characteristics that influenced their civilizations, for example the Peninsula of Greece. Greece had two distinguishing characteristics that influenced how the area began: easy access to water and a very mountainous region. Being very close to the water, Greece was able to trade with their neighbors. Also because Greece was so close to water, the land contained many islands, harbors, and rivers. Since the people of Greece had easy access to water, it was more likely for them to become traders and explorers then in other places that were not located near a sea. Also because eighty percent of Greece was mountainous, it was strongly affected by the mountains. For example, the development of the Polis, also known as a city state, was due to the mountains. Also, the very tall mountains made it strenuous to travel and hard to communicate. Because of this, each city state was not only the basis for how people organized themselves but also created very different civilizations due to the isolation, like Athens and Sparta. • 45. Disadvantages Of Anarrchism Coming from the Greek words outopia (meaning nowhere ) and eutopia (meaning good place ), Utopianism is the idea of a perfect society. Although visions of this perfect society vary, most can be characterised by an abolishment of exploitation, greed and conflict. Utopianism is often most associated with Anarchism and because of this, many critics are often quick to deem the ideology idealistic and unattainable. However this view of Anarchism is, in fact, over simplified itself, and as a wider philosophy Anarchism can be broken into much smaller strands all with varying degrees of utopian belief. One of the main reasons that anarchism is often associated with utopianism, is that both are founded on the principle belief of the unlimited possibilities of human nature and self development. This theory actively rejects the social contract theory of Locke and Hobbes which believes that human nature is selfish, greedy and aggressive and thus believes the state is necessary for a secure life. Instead, anarchists believe that social order will arise naturally as humans have the ability to organise their own lives in a harmonious way and reject the idea that the state is necessary. In fact, anarchist ideology states that all authority is evil and it is such, which corrupts those within it and in the words of Lord Acton, power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. . Although anarchists believe in the possibility of human goodness, they also recognise that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Sexism And Equality The fight women s rights and equality has been an ongoing theme throughout history. Much like racism, sexism limits a person based on a physicality they cannot control. Its uncivilized and brings a huge uproar and controversy in its path. For years there has been groups and protests to change the course of sexism and change it for the better. Admittedly, it has improved, but as a society we are far from equality. According to Martin Luther King, there a four steps to accomplish a peaceful protest. The first step of that process is gathering facts to determine if there is an unjustification. There has been a debate on whether or not if sexism is still prevalent. However, since it is even up for debate, that goes to show sexism is still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much like how Mohandas Gandhi made salt from seawater to protest against the Salt Act, a direct yet peaceful direct action must be made to seal the deal per say. Direct action can have a bug effect from a small action. Additionally, a small action can turn into a big deal. For example, on April 21st of every year there is the Day of Silence . This is a form of peaceful protest to bring awareness to the silencing of LGBT people and many also use it as a day or mourning to those lost to homophobia. Interesting enough, there actually was one of the largest direct action protests for women s rights this year on March 8th. There was an estimated amount of 470,000, three times as many people to attend Trumps Inauguration. (according to New York Times Tim Wallace and Alice Parlapiano Crowd Scientists Say Women s March in Washington Had 3 Times as Many People as Trump s Inauguration ) The Woman s March is known as the largest peaceful protest to date in American history. Which, personally, marks the year 2017 as a turning point. This is our direct action and the final step of Dr. King s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Core Concert Dance The CORE Concert Dance Company show presented the dance style of contemporary with the addition to aerial choreography. The dancers presented many movements through the use of their bodies that stemmed from choreography in ballet and modern dance moves. With contemporary being my all time favorite style, the dancers provided a sense of freedom, expression, and unpredictability in the ways they articulated the movement of the body itself and the objects that were used. In many of the different pieces that were shown, I noticed that many of the dancers movements in the choreography involved the torso. The use the torso enabled me to capture the movement of relaxation that gave off a sense of fluidity and ease through the transition of the next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movement related to the four core principles: personal style, improvisation, dynamic play, and a deep connection to the music in order to convey an expression and a sense of rhythmic movement. During the performance there were a lot of joyousness and call and response in the choreography. The areas that contained these social elements were when the dancers were suspended in the air while doing aerial and partner work on the floor. Throughout the entire show the use of the kinetic elements such as a bent knee, body part isolations and the use of a flat foot gave an insight on how much training a dancer had. The aerial dancers especially displayed body isolations when they had to do splits and hold on to the ropes with one hand while in the air. Without the isolations in the body movement and the control of the dancers, aerial work would be very difficult to manage since it requires control and articulation of certain body parts. Contemporary dance can be thought of as jazz derived or jazz influenced, but jazz will always remain strict on what the movement is supposed to be and how it supposed to be articulated. One of the main differences between contemporary and jazz is that in jazz gravity is felt a different way. In contemporary there is an urge to give into gravity such ... • 48. First Day After Thanksgiving Research Paper The next day after Thanksgiving, which always is on the fourth Thursday of November, is called Black Friday and it usually marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. It has come to be known as the busiest shopping day of the year. The origin of this phrase has its roots in the 20th century. The first mention of Black Friday appeared for the first time in 1951 in a newspaper referring to the habit of workers to call in sick after thanksgiving, in order to earn a four day weekend. After approximately 10 years, the term has come to be used by the Philadelphia police to describe the chaos caused by pedestrians, shoppers and traffic jams on the day after Thanksgiving. As we mentioned already, this event is branded as the beginning of the holiday shopping season, since Christmas is the next major holiday after Thanksgiving. In the United States of America, in the bigger cities, on Thanksgiving Day there are parades where people gather to see the balloons, performances and marching bands. These parades are sponsored by important department stores, the most known being the Macy s Parade, which happens in New York City, becoming a symbol of the holiday. • 49. Locavore Movement Essay The Locavore Movement The locavore movement has become increasingly popular over the last decade. Locavores are people who prefer to eat food that is locally grown and doesn t travel long distances before getting to their plates. This thought process is slowly changing the way people eat and the ideals people consider when choosing food to eat. Along with this fresh perspective on where our food comes from, the movement provides a innovative ideal towards what is sustainable and what is not sustainable. While the definition of local is dependent on the buyer the effect is the same. The locavore movement has a positive impact on the local communities through improving the income and number of local farms that fosters good communities, and increasing the nutritional value of food eaten. With an increase of interest in local communities and their economies, any businesses involved in the community will benefit. • 50. The And Sustainability Of The Pioneer River Catchment 1.0 Introduction Catchments are depended on by the average household person, but even more valuable to the farmers that are supplying the food to our nation. Therefore, action must be taken to ensure that the catchments in our areas are healthy and will be able to be depended on for years to come. One will be chosen that best suits this catchment and an outline of details will be provided. 1.3 Methodology This report is based upon the collected data from scientific tests and different data collection experiments, these diverse range of observations helped in determining the health of the river and catchment as a whole. The experiments tested a range of variables, some including; the levels of nitrates, phosphates, temperature of water, pH levels, turbidity of water and dissolved solids. The collection of water and recordings of microorganisms was examined and also recorded. As well as these scientific tests, simple recordings were also taken of the surrounding area and the amounts of rubbish and infrastructure that could be seen. The tests conducted in the river system occurred on the 24th of May 2016, to conduct the tests the trail along the river was walked, furthering the knowledge of the health of the river and how the the catchment area as a whole was fairing. However, some differences to the data could be assumed as when tested it was not always done by the same person, this could have then limited the accuracy. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
