Dog Park Cons
The need Muscatine, Iowa has for a dog park is a difficult topic. Dog owners have lamented over
the fact that there is no safe and legal area for them to allow their dogs to exercise in. In oppistion
non dog owners feel that the construction of a dog park would hamper their ability to peacefully
live their life. Whilst there are difficulties to building a dogpark for the community, I believe the
pros out weigh the cons.
It is a goverment s duty to provide community services for their residents. Without the dog park
dog owners lack a resources to properly take care of their pets. Most dog owners in Muscatin, Iowa
live within rental units, of which as many as a quarter of thoughs are aparments complexs.

several techniques involving the analysis of human skeletal remains for the purposes of ancestral

1979), it performs poorly in correctly classifying Native Americans, especially those from the
Northwestern Plains, Central Plains, and Southwest (Gill et al. 1988). Of particular concern is the
incorrect classification of Native Americans from the Northwestern Plains, which has been shown
to occur 70% of the time when using this technique (Gill and Gilbert 1990). Hoping to address the
shortcomings of the Giles and Elliot technique (1962) with regard to Native American populations,
the interorbital features method was developed by Gill in 1984 with particular attention paid to
accurately distinguishing between individuals of European and Native American descent. The
interorbital features method utilizes a specialized coordinate caliper called a simometer (see
Appendix I for image) and involves a set of six measurements taken from the midfacial skeleton,
followed by computation of three indices: maxillofrontal, zygoorbital, and alpha. The three indices
are calculated by dividing three breadth measurements into their corresponding subtense
measurements, then multiplying by 100 (Gill et al. 1988). The six measurements as described by
Gill et al. (1988) are summarized in detail below, and images of the technique follow (Figure 1).

Michael Rowski Home Schooling Analysis

from https://search.proquest.com/docview/196889532?accountid=40160 Summary: Michael
Romanowski wrote an article called Common Arguments about the Strengths and Limitations of
Home schooling. Home schooling is continuing to grow rapidly in many places. He explains that
home schooling serves children equally well as public schools. Romanowski supports the main
idea by giving claims that home schooling helps a child improve their social skills, children who
are homeschooled are more likely to become academically successful, a student is not put on time
limit and they are not told to put everything up and focus on a new topic. Home schooling allows
children to learn to socialize with older people and stills allows them to socialize outside of their
home with community activities. When the parents are closely involved in the student s academic

The claims in the article is that home schooling has its strengths and limitations, but public schools
also has it strengths and limitations as well. The argument is consistent, because it makes valid
points as to why the statement is true. The text relies on evidence from other researchers and
instructors as well as the information he already knew. The evidence given is reliable and valid,
because the facts that are shown are found in various articles, and its cites it sources and where they
obtained their other information from. The evidence is extremely effective in supporting the
argument because it gives detailed information and backs up each and every claim made. The
author comes to the conclusion that home schooling can be as effective as any other form of
schooling. After reading the conclusion made I think that it is

As reported by Shih (2010), in The Facebook Era, more than 750 million people around the world
are on social networking sites, where they seemingly spend more than 20 billion minutes a day.
With so many people spending time on social networking sites, it only seems logical that these sites
might be used as a stage for marketing, sales, employment prospects, and making business contacts,
just to name a few possibilities.
With so many choices for social networking platforms, it is important to know what the social web
is all about, what different sites are out there and how they differ from one another. Chief among
the popular social networking sites are Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Each of these sites is
utilized for different reasons, and to best use them to your advantage in business, you should be
aware of the differences. Facebook, according to Shih (2010) and many of her sources, is the
largest social networking site globally by an order of magnitude, and recently even beat out
Google in becoming the most trafficked site on the Internet. With that said, it should be obvious
that there is tremendous business potential for marketing, advertisement, and sales on sites such as
Facebook. Besides Facebook, LinkedIn is also a very popular site; used by more than 95% of

Infant Eye Development Book Report
Growing up we use our key senses to understand and live in the world around us. After birth
newborns eyes are still developing and cannot make out fine details far away. Newborns vision is
around 20/240, but by 6 months their vision clears up to around 20/40. At birth infants are
genetically programmed to know who their mother is and by three months they can match voices
with their gender and ethnic groups. Along with being better to distinguish voices, newborns sense
of colors also enhances with age. Perceptual vision is very important for infant eye development.
This is necessary because without this ability they would see an object at a different distance or in
a different orientation, they would perceive it as a different object (Santrock 161). There are two
main factors for this size constancy,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book uses the example of how infants were placed on a surface with just glass and the
appearance of a drop off. They then would put their mother on the other end calling the babies
names, but none would crawl to their mothers. In childhood, the child s ability to see more
colors increases. Along with a color increase perception, young children start to develop the
ability to overcome gravity bias. After childhood, vision no longer increase, but starts to actually
decrease around the age of 40 to 59. Presbyopia happens because there is a decrease of blood
supple to the eye and the retina becomes less sensitive to different stimulus. Because the retina
is not as active as previous years, it becomes hard for older people to see that well in the dark,
and especially driving at night becomes especially dangerous. Color and depth perception also
decrease with age. Older adults have a harder time distinguishing closely related colors, especially
the green blue violet colors (Santrock 163). As you age, your eyes become more susceptible to

Catch-22, by Joseph Heller
Catch 22 is a story about the different personalities that can be involved in a war. Out of all the
different archetypes, the three I ve chosen are John Yossarian, Albert Tappman, and Milo
Minderbinder, although, not in that order. The first character being analyzed is Yossarian, the
unwilling hero of this book. Although the book labels Yossarian
as the main character, he constantly
tries to coward out of going to battle. The second character that will be described is Milo
Minderbinder, the archetypical business person of Catch 22.He runs the camp mess hall and
controls what everyone in the camp is buying, selling, and eating. Milo is constantly trying to

It was like seditious and insidious too, and like socialist, suspicious, fascist and Communist. It was
an odious, alien, distasteful name, a name that just did not inspire confidence. It was not at all like
such clean, crisp, honest, American names such as Catchcart, Peckem and Dreedle. (Heller 210)
The quote above describes the relationship with Colonel Cathcart, in which Cathcart has a
worrying doubt about Yossarian and his role in the squadron. Yossarian complains to Doc
Daneeka about Colonel Cathcart s dictum regarding the mission count during every visit to the
medical tent. Cathcart s opinion about Yossarian also dawns upon the other men who start to
wonder about the man with that name and who he actually is. One of the main points within the
story is when the soldiers question Yossarian during the death of Lt. Mudd, whom the men
continuously call the dead man in Yossarian s tent (Heller 166). A character that changes
Yossarian completely about war is Snowden. After Snowden s death, Yossarian is given a medal
of honor for fighting through that battle, but unlike the other men, Yossarian shows up in a
disorderly fashion. He realizes that he doesn t want to be in a war like atmosphere anymore and
starts to long for his trips throughout Italy. It is after these trips that Yossarian tries to weasel his
way out of the squadron by feigning sicknesses and pleading for Doc Daneeka to claim him insane.

Different Viewpoints On The Autism
There are a few different viewpoints on the Autism CARES Act from the taxpayer s perspective.
These perspectives are largely based on that person s general beliefs about autism or how this
policy affects people with autism spectrum disorders and their families. To many it was clear that
the Combating AutismAct (CAA) had been largely unsuccessful and they were looking at how
this policy could be improved. General concerns regarding this policy are centered around how
the funding is being used and in what ways it is benefiting those with autism. Some believe that
this policy would be better if there were a few changes, while others have a negative view of the
policy as a whole; people also realize that the policy is not exactly perfect, but it is a start. With the
new changes in language for the Autism CARES Act, some are content with how these changes
will affect the autism community. The reauthorization of the CAA means that they are still seeking
out answers, providing families with educational support, and developing early protection
procedures. This policy is important to them, their friends or loved ones, and others with autism
because it continues to shine a light on the need for more research and better education, along with
the monitoring of services and funding (Tobik, 2014). As Amy Tobik goes on to say, Families need
to know that they are supported by their community and by their government and that we are
fighting right alongside them to get them the services

Katniss Everdeen Analysis
Don t go, Peeta told Katniss. Katniss knew she had to go. She knew she needed the bag and

Peeta to sleep and went to the Cornucopia to gather the stuff the sponsors had supplied. Do you
let others make choices for you? Do you make them yourself? Both Katniss Everdeen from The
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Ani Mells from The Scourge by Jennifer A. Nielsen
make their own choices. Katniss and Ani are both going through hard times. Katniss has
volunteered for her sister, Primrose, to be in the Hunger Games; To go into an arena, and fight 23

The Key Messages Of The Foundation Phase
This assignment will be exploring how the key messages of the Foundation Phase are applied
throughout all aspects of the curriculum. It will analyse childhood theorists sentiments about the
Foundation Phase, the notion of play in learning, both indoor and outdoor, and Personal Social
Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity. The Foundation Phase is constructed to provide
consistency to each child s education during a crucial stage of their development. However, the
consistency does not affect the challenge of the curriculum: Children are given more opportunities
to enhance their knowledge through practical activities, open ended questions and problem solving.

Physical Development and Creative Development. Personal Social Development, Well Being

notoriously referred to as being the heart of the foundation phase as the children s abilities and
knowledge are advanced across all seven areas of learning through experiential learning both
indoors and outdoors. Personal and Social Development, Well being and Cultural Diversity helps
the children acquire knowledge about themselves, the relationships they will encounter whilst as
a child and as an adult and the diverse cultures which they live amongst or exist in other
countries. The well being of the child is a vital of learning however it is not just associated with
the basic needs of the child, but also how relaxed the child is with the environment and
themselves. The well being of a child can be ensured by fulfilling the basic needs which were
defined in the hierarchy of needs by Maslow. Abraham Maslow stressed the importance of focusing

Queen Elizabeth I Essays
Queen Elizabeth I was by all rights England s most praised monarch. Her success in her reign,
viewed in later centuries, cannot adequately encompass all that she did or how she maintained her
power. In part, her endurance stems from the way in which she learned early in life to fight with
forces that were not physical, those of her mind, her intellect, and her own spirit. She used her
intellect to create an empire. Her education and early training of mind together with her basic
understanding of humanity, both of her own and that of her subjects, kept her at the helm for more
than forty years. Analysis of her writings, which include speeches, poems, letters, and documents to
Parliament, will help readers understand that Elizabeth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Queen Elizabeth I was actually born Elizabeth Tudor, the daughter of Henry VIII and his second
wife (after England s split from the Catholic Church), Anne Boleyn. She was crowned Queen of
England on January14, 1559 and reined for the next 44 years. She is remembered by such names
as the Virgin Queen and Good Queen Bess.
Her childhood was a rather tumultuous one, with her father paying very little or no attention to
her. Her governess had to write to him saying that Elizabeth needed some clothes because all of
the ones that she had were too small. Her mother was executed when she was 2 years old after
being accused of adultery, incest etc. After her father s death, the throne went to her Catholic half
sister Mary. Mary s policies of burning Protestants at the stake and an unsuccessful war with France,
wherein she lost Callais, the last of England s strongholds on the continent, made her less than
popular.
When Elizabeth was sixteen rumors were spread she had plotted with Thomas Seymour to put him
in line for the throne. In addition, the rumor that she was having a love affair with him and was
pregnant with his child surfaced. These rumors called into question the value of honor and honesty
of the young Lady Elizabeth.
In this situation, Elizabeth shows one of her first examples of building her leadership image
through her writings. Elizabeth wrote a letter

Essay about Stakeholders of the Offshore Wind Company
Stakeholders of the Offshore Wind Company A business s stakeholders are the people who are
affected by the actions of the business. In this case, the Offshore Wind Company (ltd). In this piece,
I am looking to investigate the importance of shareholders, their interests, environmental thoughts,
and their adverse to success. Stakeholders are very important in today s modern society, as they
can hold the key to the company s success. They take care of the financial issues, and decisions
made by and for the company. The six main stakeholders are Financiers, Pressure groups, Suppliers,
Employees, Owners, and, of course, the Local Community. Stakeholders can range from central...

A typical example would be environmental pressure groups, protesting against wind turbines on
the coast. This could be because the seabed would be disturbed and damaged, and the local
fishing would be disrupted. Suppliers like to be consulted beforehand also, as this gives them
time to prepare the produce so as its ready for the Offshore Wind Company when they want it. If
it weren t ready when the Company need it, they might look somewhere else for supplies, so the
suppliers wouldn t get their income capital. Local community could be against the wind turbines
ruining the countryside and view. This is why stakeholders like to be consulted before any big
decisions are made. Success is also another big issue for shareholders. For those such as owners,
shareholders, employees, suppliers and financiers it is incredibly important because if the
Offshore Wind Company doesn t succeed, they don t get paid. The employees would probably
loose their jobs, the owners business would fold, along with the shareholders loosing all their
money, the suppliers wouldn t get paid back, and nor would the financiers. It s a bit different in the
case if Local community and pressure groups though, because it goes a bit both ways.

How I Approach Program Development
HOW WOULD I APPROACH PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Upon reading and reflecting the insight and knowledge gained from this case study my three values
for a program development and strategic analysis would be: a personal connection with the local
population, minimizing hierarchy, and enforcing accountability and transparency in the
organization. In terms of who I would work with, I favour the idea of working in a smaller
organization. I would accept funds from multilateral organizations, not the government, and I would
be working at the local level. Working in a smaller organization at the local level allows for
greater accountability and a lesser chance of conflicting motives. As previously mentioned, smaller
organizations may lead to exclusion. To prevent this I would be willing to work with like minded
small organizations to divide the population. My main interest would be cultivating a relationship
with the population. The personal connection with the population is probably the hardest task
because we are not all as willing as Roy to immerse ourselves in the community. This relationship
also relies on the population because they need to be willing to share and collaborate. This
connection is the most important because it allows for the strongest trust and the greatest
understanding of the needs in the area that we are working. It also allows us to ensure that our
endeavours for the project align with our program. Having an extensive understanding the needs

Gladiators were professional fighters who specialized in weapons and fought in public arenas.
They were usually kept as slaves or prisoners. Gladiators were known to have short lives because

This is the first Mamet play I have read (sacrilege, I know) and I was pleasantly surprised. My
only prior experience was a production of Sexual Perversity in Chicago which I found to be
dated (reasonable) and stilted (unacceptable). I also find it annoying that actors, in general find
his writing to be so brilliant. Plus the scenes I have seen people do never sound natural: too many
cryptic pauses and unfinished thoughts, not enough contractions, and Mamet s penchant for
saying do you see? instead of you know? . Anyway Oleanna was a pleasant surprise because in
reading the text it occurred to me that the language could be made to sound more natural if the
actor works at it. So maybe what I have seen so far suffered at the hands of inexperienced

Metamorphosis And Dantes Inferno Comparison
In The Metamorphosis you have a man who turns into a bug and in Dante s Inferno you have a
man sending people to nine different levels of hell, but someway they relate to each other in many
ways. Sympathy is what makes these two books so similar. The author makes the reader feel
sympathy for the character but the author himself has no sympathy for the character. The
Metamorphosis and Dante s Infernohave the author developing the story so the characters have
sympathy towards each other but the author has no sympathy towards the characters. First lets
show how this happened in The Metamorphosis. The lack of sympathy the author had for Gregor

In Dante s Inferno as the reader we can see that the author the author has no sympathy towards

with each other were sent to hell as a single person. This is shown in the book when dante says
Love led us to one death. Everyone knows that this is not possible but it is showing how neither
of them are their own person because they based their lives on one another. When the author did
this he showed how much he didn t care. He had no sympathy for those characters at all. Once the
characters were in hell they were stripped of their identities and had no more loe for each other. To
add on to these lovers being in hell they have not committed a sin to be there. That is another reason
that the reader can think of why the author is so unsympathetic towards the characters. Before we

Citizen. Personally responsible citizen is on who donate, obey laws, and are responsible.
Participatory citizen is where the person holds leadership positions in the community, and puts

they are. They will do research and get to the bottom of the issue and suggest a ways to improve
that concern.
The article addresses the three kinds of citizenships. The descriptions for each are very similar to
the other article read in class. Participatory citizen is being an active leader and service. Justice
oriented citizen was explained as a good citizen who questions what is going on around them and
why. They approach the systems or issue to face it head on. Searchers from the article stated justice

their similarities and differences. Lastly, I will explain both schools influence on sociologyand
sociological research concerning mass cultural production and describe how an empirical study
based on both schools would compare.
Horkheimer Adorno The Culture Industry
Theodore Adorno and Max Horkheimer studied Sociology within called the Frankfurt School. The
Frankfurt school was founded in 1924 in Germany at Goethe University. The aim of the Frankfurt
school, according to Horkheimer, was to study the interconnection between the economic life of

Structuralism is based off looking at the structures, or the bigger picture within a study. Since
Adorno and Horkheimer are concerned with the mass deception that is created by the larger
structures in society such as the entertainment industry, an empirical study today would look
similar to that. The study could focus on the use of advertisements to create mass deception but it
would not be a study of individual behavior as so much one of the larger institutions within
society. Methods that would be used would be perhaps a literature reviews, a survey on different
advertisements and their purpose and a survey of people s perceptions of advertisements and their
purpose. For the study the goal is to study the effects of the creator on the social world and its
receivers and study the links between them all, as in the cultural diamond explained in the

How Did Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi Change The Impact Of...
Making his debut on the political scene primarily around 1919, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
changed the course of India s movement towards independence permanently for the next century.
The former British lawyer discovered his niche in government and leadership in South Africa,
which he then took back to his homeland of South Asia. By pursuing his moral based political
ideology through the use of predominantly non violent non cooperation practices, Gandhi struck
made impacts, both positive and negative, throughout the hearts of Indian natives across the nation.
Supportive or crtical of Gandhi s beliefs and political methhods for achieving independence from
Britain, the statement that Gandhi forever influenced political activism is irrefutable. While
Gandhi s set of beliefs consisted of many sub branches and complex economic plots, his sole
center of political ideology revolves around morality. He expressed this in an exerpt from Young
Indiain 1920, stating, I reject any religious doctrine that does not appeal to reason and is in
conflict with morality (Modern South Asia 112). Gandhi s ultimate goal was for the nation to
reach such a state of enlightenmnet that no form of representatives would be necessary. This
utopian universe created in Gandhi s mind was referred to as Ram Rajya. Part of the motive
behind this concept was due to Gandhi s anti colonial sentiment, as he believed India has become
impovershed by their Government when referring to the British (Hind Swaraj

Happiness And Emotions In The Poetry Of Blake And Rossetti
At first read, Blake and Rossetti s fascination with the unity of conflicting emotion and their
tendency to describe human experiences in contradictory terms might be perplexing. However,
there is a reason behind what seems to be madness in the poetry of these writers. The poetry of
Blake and Rossetti leads itself to the assertion that the human experience is teeming with both joy
and agony. Whether someone lives their life in a state of joy or woe does not depend on whether
their experience is positive or negative, because the human experience is both. Rather, someone s
happiness or sadness through their life depends on whether they choose to orient their focus to the
happiness and joy that exists in the universe or the negative pain that is just as abundant. Though
happiness and sadness take many different forms in the poetry, in each form, they are as abundant
as they are co dependent. Blake and Rossetti take radical steps to express how related the feelings
of joy and woe are in time and space. In fact, in many places, their poetry subtly suggests that one
emotioncannot occur without the other, and that no situation is complete without elements of both
emotions.
Blake s first unification of the two emotions occurs in his poem, Auguries of Innocence. Though
sadness and joy are not the main topic of the piece, these two emotions appear multiple times
through the poem. Interestingly, they are always referred to together, as Joy Woe . Never in the
poem does Blake

World War 1 Atmosphere Essay
In the years leading up to WWI, there was an extremely tense atmosphere in whichwhere nations
were all but fighting. A number of factors led to this atmosphere of tension, and ultimately, to
World War Onehe war. MThese factors were militarism combined with the glorification of war, and
a resulting sense of fear that created an atmosphere where war felt inevitable and drove nations to
make alliances.
The combination of militarism and the glorification of war was particularly dangerous, as theyit
created a Europe in which all wanted and prepared for a devastating war. Previously, in Europe,
war had consisted of small conflicts between nations that undoubtedly ended in glory and rewards
for the victor, which led to an atmosphere in which ads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This exemplifies the mindset in Europe and in western culture in the 19th to 20th centuries, as it
shows that even though all countries strive for peace and prosperity, there is nothing equal to
winning a war. No matter how great or how profitable a peace is, it would never be as great as
triumph in war. This degree of nationalism that Theodore Roosevelt shows can only be achieved
in war, combined with the fact that Europeans associated war with religion and as a necessary
part of life, led to a very tense atmosphere where war felt inevitable. With all this international
tension, militarism became an increasingly important part of each nation s ideals, and with it, the
military leaders gained power. One example of this is the beginning of Germany s involvement in
WWI, The Kaiser learnt that Britain would remain neutral so long as Germany refrained from
attacking France. (...) He said, We must halt the march to the west. (...) It is impossible, said
General Moltke(...). As in Russia, so in Germany, the military men triumphed. (Roberts, 51). Much
of WWI could have been avoided if the Germans had simply turned back, and if the

Abstract The purpose of these lab exercises is to understand the function and importance of an
electrocardiogram. This lab will demonstrate how stress levels or different elevations can affect
human heart rate. Furthermore, the equipment used in the experiment will show the functions in
the right and left arm; as well as, in the right and left ankles. Finally, the lab will serve a purpose
as a way to know how to read an electrocardiogram and calculate the heart rate.
Introduction
An electrocardiogram can be used to record activity during the cardiac process of pumping and

In the chart above it has five rows each row concerning different test. The first row talks about
Beats per minute; in that row it ask what my beats per minute was, gives if it is over a hundred
then its Tachycardia and if it is below sixty it is bradycardia and then ask if it was normal or not.
My beats per minute were a hundred and fifty so it is considered Tachycardia. The next row
shows PR interval, mine was .12 but the normal is 0.16 0.18 sec so no my PR interval is not in
the norm. Following that is the QRS complex it consisted of mine being .08 which was normal
for a QRS complex. The last test was the QT interval; again my numbers feel short. Mine was 0.2
which is lower than the norm. The table above can also be found in Seeley s Anatomy and
Physiology laboratory manual on page 376.
Discussion
Now that the experiment has been tested, the results are in there comes the analysis part of the
process. After I had determined my calculation I saw where my beats per minute were over a
hundred; this consider me to be Tachycardia. Tachycardia refers to an abnormally fast resting heart
rate. When examining what Tachycardia was and how it can be affected made me see that different
scenarios will affect the beats per minute. Anxiety, caffeine, stress can all cause someone to have
such a rapid heartbeat. I remember from when taking the echocardiogram that I was stressed

The Benefits Of Welding As A Career
Welding is amongst many trade careers in the work force. It is a skill that takes years and years to

The Outcaste By Akkarmashi
Abstract:
The Outcaste Akkarmashi has a significant and massive influence on the society as it depicts first
hand experiences of author himself. Sharankumar Limbale depicts a true and realistic picture of the
darker side of the Indian society. Here the darker side indicates nothing but the worst culture of our
Indian society in discriminating people by their caste. The novel narrates the dehumanization of
Dalits. Their suffering includes inequality, discrimination and indifference towards them and their
culture. They are ill treated for which they do nothing. The author describes about his pathetic
situation of not having an identity in his own society. The author has put in words the life he lived
as an untouchable, as a half caste, and as an impoverished man. Thus the novel leaves a deep
impression on the human mind. People are respected for their designation and neglected for their
caste. Lower caste people suffer a lot by many means like poverty, education, status etc. only
because of their caste. The best way to find out the sufferings of the Dalits and the other
marginalised sections is through the words and emotions of those who have lived through the
experience and who have the education and talent to write about it. Such is the autobiographical
novel The Outcaste .

Cognitive Enhancement Ethics
Cognitive enhancement is a rapidly evolving medical advancement which has the potential to
drastically change society as we know it. Cognitive enhancement technologies, such as
pharmaceutical and genetic cognitive enhancement methods, raise a wide variety of ethical
concerns despite their potential to greatly benefit society. This paper will focus on cognitive
enhancement drugs, also known as nootropics, such as Adderall, Ritalin, and Modafinil. In this
paper, I will argue that we have a moral obligation to utilize pharmaceutical cognitive enhancement
methods in order to benefit society as a whole. I will also consider a potential objection to the

Thanks to organizations such as the Food and Drug Administration, we can be assured that the

cognition of the population will result in the ability of these individuals to achieve things which
could not have been conceived prior to the implementation of these medical advances (Buchanan,

Application Of A Standardized Curriculum
In general, literature in education studies confirms that Rogers s model parsimoniously carries over
to research in school health: several researchers have conceptualized implementation within a
diffusion of innovation paradigm (Hausman Ruzek, 1995; Henderson Dancy, 2008; McCormick,
Steckler, McLeroy, 1995; Parcel et al., 1989; Payne, Gottfredson, and Gottfredson, 2006; Penberthy
Millar, 2002). For example, Rogers s adoption invention continuum has been helpful to identify
which elements of a reform are modified and directly adopted. Henderson Dancy (2008)

new characteristics that distinguish it from its planned or intended use.... Show more content on

13) and that professors pedagogical discontentment in their own classes was a far more important
factor when considering the adoption of something new (Southerland, Sowell, Blanchard Granger,
2011). Adopters will filter the information and advice they receive to consider, try, adopt and
maintain selectively that fits with their perceived needs, priorities and circumstances (Green,
Ottoson, Garcia Hiatt 2009). Thus, it will be important to investigate how teachers/instructors
understand a reform and what information effectively motivates them to make a change. The flow
of innovation, however, can be portrayed as top down, bottom up, with a reliance on extra
organizational sources, learning, and emulation processes. For example, Mintrom and Vergari
(1998) present a theoretical argument for integrating insights from policy network studies into
diffusion studies, arguing the important role that policy networks, and the policy entrepreneurs
embedded in them, can play in the diffusion of policy innovations. Through evidence on state level
school choice policy entrepreneurs was collected through a mail survey of education policy experts
in each of the 48 contiguous states, they found that policy networks serve to support the diffusion
of policy innovations, external or interstate networks serve as important mechanisms for the
dissemination of innovative ideas. They also suggest that successful

The Original Marxist Ideology Of Populism In Venezuela
Food sovereignty programs have become a phenomenon in Latin American countries that have left
neoliberalism and are looking for an independent future. Venezuela has attempted for the past 15
years to create it s own food sovereignty program to move the country away from an import
dependent economy. The Venezuelan government has struggled to obtain the traditional sense of
foodsovereignty because of its history with petrol crisis in the 80 s and its current populist
regimes that moved away from peasant focused agriculture movement. The country does not fit
into the original Marxist ideology of food sovereignty, because it did not account for a society
that did not have enough people to grow the food to feed the population of the entire country. It
also did not that account for the country s integration into the global system and was pulling back
from the world they had already been a part of for some time (Kappeler, 15). Even if Venezuela

The Atkins Diet Essay
The Atkins Diet, a high protein, high fat, low carbohydrate diet was introduced in 1972 by Dr.
Robert C. Atkins, MD. Dr. Atkins believed that a diet high in sugar forced the pancreas to
produce the hormone insulin, causing the body to store calories as fat. He believed that if we
consumed fewer carbohydrates, then our bodies would produce less insulin. By doing so, our
bodies would use stored fat for energy, resulting in weight loss. (1) The Atkins Diet consists of
four phases. The first phase, referred to as the Induction Phase, lasts for a period of two weeks.
During this phase, the dieter has to severely restrict their carbohydrate intake to twenty grams per
day. This restriction is necessary for the body to enter ketosis.... Show more content on

They are then to follow the glycemic index called The Atkins Glycemic Ranking . This index
ranks new foods to be introduced into the diet that will not significantly raise insulin levels. The
fourth and last phase of The Atkins Diet is called Lifetime Maintenance . Dieters begin this
phase once their weight loss goals are met. Dieters are allowed to eat more carbohydrates,
however only enough that will not cause them to gain weight. Breads and other starchy foods
will always be severely restricted. This phase is meant to last a lifetime, and Dr. Atkins claims
that eating like this causes people to become much healthier and reduces their chances of
chronic diseases. (2) Certain types of foods are permitted while on The Atkins Diet . Most
protein rich foods that have little to no carbohydrates are allowed such as meats, seafood, and
eggs. Cheeses are allowed, however the dieter needs to read the food labels to be sure that they
do not contain a large amount of carbohydrates. Fats and oils are recommended but the dieter
needs to make sure that they do not include any which contain Tran s fats. Virgin or extra virgin
olive oils are highly recommended. For frying purposes, the dieter should use canola, peanut or
grape seed oil. Cold water fish is advised as a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids. Mayonnaise,

The typical diet of the average Japanese citizen is much healthier than that of an average American
citizen. The Japanese diet is vastly different than the common western diet in terms of ingredients
used, portion size, preparation, and relationship between its users and their food. While Americans
commonly opt for unhealthy food high in calories, fat, cholesterol, and sodium, many people of

The health of both overweight and obese people lies in jeopardy due to the extra stress placed on
the body, especially the heart, due to the high amount of excess fat they carry with themiv. Being
overweight or obese increases a person s risk for diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure,
high cholesterol, some types of cancer, stroke, and several other devastating ailments. The
percentage of the obese population in the United States has risen from 23% to its present day rate
of 30% in only eight yearsv. This skyrocketing trend is most likely related to the increase in
portion sizes and calories at many American restaurants, the rising level of stress and expectation
during the average workday, and the logarithmic increase in fast food restaurant options over the
last 20 years. To understand how the Japanese diet supersedes the typical American dietin
numerous health issues, several aspects of the diets must be evaluated. The staples of a typical
Japanese diet differ dramatically from the centerpieces of the average American diet. In Japan,
the main dietary staple is rice, which only has approximately 100 calories per half cup serving, a
negligible amount of fat, and a very low amount of sodium. Since rice serves as the nutritional
core of almost every meal, this diet offers consistency and balance to its users. Many Japanese
people eat twice as much fish as red meat, and since fish is high in protein while low in saturated

patient care (Anderson, 2007, p. 262). Technology unquestionably created changes in every area of
our lives, particularly throughout the last two hundred years, and in no industry is that more clear
than the field of medicine. Throughout this time, machines began to assume a bigger role as
innovators improved and invented better approaches to diagnose illnessand treat wounds. As
healthcare continues to evolve, so does restorative technology, and its use in... Show more content

With HIV being a major global epidemic, we are still seeing high numbers and new cases arise
every year. In the twentieth century the syndrome was the most famous epidemic and still is
considered to be so today with many people dying from the disease. In the healthcare community
the top priority for HIV/ AIDS for both periods have been prevention and access to treatment.
Researchers continue to push forward toward a cure for this epidemic as they did in the twentieth
century through clinical trials and exploration. We also see similarities when it comes to the cost
of health care treatment. We are still seeing today how health care is a distress to many people
who are not able to afford it just as it was prohibitive to persons without medical insurance in the
past (Anderson, 2007).
The medical advancements and improvements in twentieth century medicine involved inventions of
a vast number of technologies and medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment (Anderson, 2007.
p 268). These medical advancements certainly influenced health and medicine today. Technological
improvements made it possible for physicians to provide medical care and more accurately
diagnosis illnesses and trauma with less invasive methods. The accelerated growth of computer
technology that began in the 1970s has paved the way for many dramatic changes in medicine

Ancient Greek Vase Analysis
Perhaps one of the most well known staples of ancient Greek art is the vase constructed from clay
and decorated with black glaze to depict culturally relevant scenes, stories, and events, ancient
Greek pottery is instrumental to our modern understanding of ancient Greek society. Thanks to the
sturdiness of the fired terra cotta from which these pieces are made, archaeologists have been able
to uncover a plethora of these vases and vessels and analyze them to gather otherwise unknowable
information about the time in which they were made. The vases are most commonly categorized
by shape and by the era in which they were made several different artistic styles and movements
are documented via the decorations and art on these vases. Some of... Show more content on

On the front, typical of all Panathenaic amphorae, is an image of Athena holding a spear,
featuring a limited but still visually striking use of color. Dark red and white adorn her apparel,
helmet, and shield. Her skin is also colored with a whiteish tone this detail is perhaps a tradition
left over from the much earlier Minoan civilization, whose art made the visual distinction of
female from male with lighter skin tones. Incised lines are used to depict intricate decorations on
her tunic. In this panel, Athena is flanked on either side by Doric columns, an inscription
running up the side of one, and roosters atop both. The significance of the roosters remains
unknown, but some have theorized that the presence of the birds could have something to do
with the Greek word for rooster, alektruon, which means defender, while others suggest that they
are symbolic of Zeus, Athena s father. The neck and the foot of the vase are decorated on both
sides. The back of the vase displays a scene from a stadion footrace, the event for which this prize
would have been awarded. All 5 athletes in the panel assume the heroically nude state that was
more than common in Greek society, and detailed musculature is delineated with the use of
incised lines. As with Athena on the other side, Minoan influence is evident in the scene,
evidenced by the pinched waists if the runners. Beyond the focal points of both scenes, no
details are used to indicate their surrounding landscape, in a very similar fashion to the Berlin
painter s style. Also like the Berlin painter, there is evidence of perspective, as the athlete s legs
and arms overlap each other to provide a sense of relative space, however, this detail disappears
on the other side of the vase, as Athena s spear runs behind her head, contrary to the position it is
suggested to take by the way she

Female Characters In And Then There Were None
Women. They are a complete mystery, said the revolutionary physicist Stephen Hawking. In the
novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are
portrayed in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Whether the incidents include a
fellow character or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness
compared to the males, or downright treating the femaleprotagonists like objects or things, they are
sometimes cruel and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters
are described through hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be
appropriate for impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting
otherwise. One of the largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and
hurtful stereotypes while referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all
women should be homemakers who cook and clean. With a pioneering female writer such as
Agatha Christie, you would not necessarily expect such blaring misogyny, but it remains all the
same. On a broader note, the three main female characters are each stereotypes of the crazy woman
one following under her husband even for cruelty, one being bible crazy, and one being so in
love she is willing to literally kill anyone who stands in her way. More specifically, when William
Blore is analyzing the death of Mrs. Rogers, he

If we skip back a little, in the first chapter of Vermeer s Hat: The seventeenth Century and the
Dawn of the Global World, Brook discusses Vermeer s first painting, View of Delft
. This painting is
one of the only outdoor scenes Vermeer had painted that is still in existence. The first window
Brook opens for his readers in this painting is a view of the city of Delft. This painting shows the
river harbor in Delft. Brook first uses the herring buses in this painting to open a window into the
seventeenth century. Herring buses Timothy Brook states herring buses in Vermeer s Hat, are, three

a window to talk about the climate change and sickness in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
In these two centuries, the temperatures were falling all over the world, creating increased sickness
and shorter crop seasons. In Vermeer s Hat, Brook says that the two herring boats in the painting are
evidence of climate change. Brook also uses Vermeer to talk about the exchanges in the seventeenth

Human nature is what founders regard as hypothesis of their perspective approaches. The human
nature view of the psychoanalytic theory by Freud states(as cited by Corey,2009a), our behavior is
determined by irrational forces, unconscious motivations, and biological and instinctual drives as
these evolve through key psychosexual stages in the first six years of life ( p. 61). While growing
up, I was taught genes are what puts together a person therefore a person thinking pattern, stages of
life, and motivations may not be developed entirely on the individual but a trait. However,
everyone does not feel, think, and behave like the next person. Becoming knowledgeable of how a
person develops not only mentally but physically, emotionally, and even spiritually can be the key
to treat a client effectively with the psychoanalytic approach.
Corey (2009a) discusses the human nature aspect of person centered theory, stating Rodgers
believed people are trustworthy, resourceful, capable of self understanding and self direction, able
to make constructive changes, able to live effective and productive lives, therefore they will be able
to manage their own problems in due time through treatment (p.169). Corey (2009a) elaborates on

Fifty Shades Of Grey Summary
The thesis of the paper is ISIS/ISIL romancing of vulnerable Western women and luring them
into their caliphate through new technology (e.g., social media). The majority of the women
being recruited are those who share the ideology that Muslim s are being systematically
oppressed. Then there is the fascination of an Arabian Knights tale of being married to a jihadi
warrior; add to this, this fantasy of a worldly romance, being a devout wife and mother is
appealing to idealistic young girls who thirst for adventure. Those who are pariahs in Western
society find this change appealing; thus, the idea of creating and living in a new society, a
utopia, is a dream come true for many of these young women/girls. However, as with most
organizations, there is a dark side, even darker than Fifty Shades of Grey. These women and
young girls eventually come to realize that they are no more than sex and reproductive slaves. The
brutal reality of this existence has left a trail of broken hearts among the relatives of these young
women/girls in their native countries. A once perceived beneficent purpose has turned into a
hellish nightmare for many of these women/girls who are now trapped in a world far from home.

Why Do Pharmaceutical Companies Use Direct To Consumer...
In 1983, the first television drug advertisement was aired. The drug was Rufen, a pain reliever
similar to ibuprofen. Not even 48 hours later, the government had requested the commercial be
taken off the air on counts of misinformation. In 2007, congress ruled that these advertisements
encouraged unnecessary usage of these drugs (Scott). The government, alongside the American
Medical Association, wanted to ban these advertisements permanently, but they could not because
the pharmaceutical companies would plead free speech under the first amendment (Scott).
Pharmaceutical companies have always managed to find loopholes in the system so they can
continue to feed their toxic commercials to consumers. Although some may disagree that

If it were illegal to air these advertisements, the numbers of certain medications prescribed would
decrease significantly. As shown by the law, direct to consumer advertisements (DTC ads) are
illegal in the United Kingdom. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) medication gets
prescribed 25 times more frequently in the United States than in the United Kingdom. This shows a
correlation between the ads and the prescriptions being written (Stange). Drug companies advertise
on television so they can successfully pitch directly to their patients. The reason they do this is
because these medications are not nearly as good for a patient as they sound, therefore doctors do
not prescribe them often. Without DTC advertising, people would not be able to self diagnose and
convince themselves that they need a medication for a condition that they do not clinically have. A
primitive example for this is adderall, the drug prescribed for patients with ADHD. Other places,
such as the United Kingdom, allow doctors to make the calls and diagnoses, so only the patients
with the disorder receive the medication. A common argument against this is that 64% of
physicians surveyed concluded that these drug advertisements encourage potential

DuPont began life in 1802, as a gunpowder manufacturer supplying the US Army under President

continues to serve worldwide markets including food and nutrition; health care; agriculture; fashion
and apparel; home and construction; and electronics. Among some of its inventions are nylon
stockings invented in 1939, Teflon for pans, Kevlar for bullet proof vests, stainmaster for carpets,
the synthetic fabric lycra, and Dacron for clothing. In 1999 the company held a portfolio of 2000

In order to make the second stage completely tax free DuPont had to satisfy a number of IRS rules
and regulations. These rules stated that DuPont had to control Conoco immediately before the split
off, meaning that it had to control at least 80% of Conoco s stock. In addition the split had to be
motivated by a valid business purpose. Also DuPont had to get rid of all Conoco stock so it
would not have any control over the company after the deal was completed. Conoco had to be
recapitalized or reorganized into two classes of common stock. Class A stock that carried one
vote each, issued to the public and Class B stock with five votes each, retained by DuPont for
later disbursement to DuPont shareholders in the exchange offer. Prior to the IPO, Conoco would
have to issue a $7.5 billion promissory note to DuPont as a dividend. The payment would be tax
free to both parties because at the time DuPont owned all of Conoco. Conoco would in turn, use the
proceeds to pay back part of the note and other intercompany notes with DuPont.
While I do agree with the Chief Operating Officer that a 100% IP of Conoco would raise a
significant amount of cash to use in our core business growth internationally, allowing us to expand
our global operations. I think the equity care out

Food Digestion Research Paper
Digestion begins when one sees food. Upon seeing food the brain sends signals for the salivary
glands to release saliva. When food is first placed into the mouth by taking a bite it is masticated
and broken down to increase the surface area so that food can be digested faster, as well as
allowing it to be swallowed. While being masticated food is moistened with saliva, which contains
Amylase, which begins the process of breaking down carbohydrates. Once thoroughly chewed
saliva forms the food into a clump, which is called a bolus. Once food is chewed and formed into
a bolus the tongue pushes the food to the back of the mouthinto the throat so that it can be
swallowed. Swallowing occurs by reflexes opening and closing the epiglottis, which... Show more

The bile that is released is produced by the liver, which then fills the bile duct before overflowing
and then being stored in the gallbladder, which then allows it into the duodenum through a duct.
In between meals the gallbladder absorbs water and electrolytes from the bile. The bile that is
released is used to emulsify fats, which is to make the fats separate into small droplets. This
allows them to be mixed with water and then acted upon by enzymes to further help their
digestion. It is easier for the lipids to be broken down once they are emulsified because they are
smaller and the lipase can attack it more completely. Bile itself is a green colored fluid that is
made of minerals, cholesterol, neutral fats, phospholipids, bile acids also called bile salts, and
bile pigments. Bilirubin is what gives the color to the bile, and it is produced from the
decomposition of hemoglobin as previously stated. Bile acids are steroids that are formed from
cholesterol. Both bile acid and lecithin, which is a phospholipid, help digest and absorb fats.
Anything else that is in bile is waste that will be excreted. In the end however around eighty
percent of the bile acids are reabsorbed in the ileum, which is the last section of the small intestine,
and they are returned to the liver where they are absorbed and re secreted by hepatocytes. The
circle of secretion and reabsorption is called the enterohepatic

The Importance Of Comprehensive Site Investigations And...
The importance of comprehensive site investigations and getting the right report, and by an EPA
accredited auditor can be seen in the court case Charben Haulage Pty Ltd v Environmental Earth
Sciences Pty Ltd (2004) FCA 403. In this case Caltex had obtained development consent from the
local council to decommission a suburban service station and remediate it to residential standards.
A condition of the consent was that an auditor accredited by the EPA would sign off the completed
decontamination.
A consultant issued a report to Caltex stating that the former service station site was suitable for
residential use, and the sale of the service station was completed relying on the report. The contract
of sale contained a condition that the site would be suitable for purposes permitted by its current
business zoning (in which residential flats were also permitted). However, the council then rejected
the consultants report, as an EPA accredited auditor had not signed it off.
The purchaser engaged its own accredited auditor, who recommended reporting to the authority
that the site posed significant risk of harm to human health and the environment because of
contaminated groundwater, off site migration, vapors and the presence of residential units down
slope. Work stopped for 10 months, with the council instituting proceedings in the land and
environment court to restrain work until an accredited auditor had validated the site, as required by
its development consent.

The Judicial Arms Of The Eu
The Court of Justice of the European Union and the General Court are the judicial arms of the EU .
Critically analyse with reference to the function, personnel and procedures of these two EU courts.
Since the UK joined the EU in 1973 under Edward Heath the UK legal system has been inferior to
the EU legal system. The EU s main judicial arms are the Court of the Justice of the European Union
(CJEU) which was established under the European Coal and Steel Community Treaty (1951) and
the General Court (GC) which was established in 1986. The General Court was originally
referred to as the Court of First Instance however has since been renamed under the Lisbon
Treaty (2009) as the GC in which cases can be appealed to the CJEU but only on points of law.
The EU is only able to legislate on areas where it is empowered to by treaties for example on areas
such as trade, competition, single market legislation, agriculture and justice.
The CJEU is the highest court in the EU. It is comprised of one judge from each member state
and is supported by eight Advocate Generals whose role it is to provide an impartial and public
opinion on the case brought before the CJEU. The primary function of the CJEU is to ensure that
the interpretation and application of the EU law established by treaties is observed (Treaty of
Rome: 1958). This is a necessity as the homogenous responsibility of the EU needs to be maintained
as to insure community relationships between member states. The GC is a branch

Rehabilitation devices are an essential part of the medical industry as they serve the purpose of
returning a person to his/her original flexibility or movement. Conventional rehabilitation
exercises utilise rigid and heavy robotic devices that are limited to the clinical setting. Soft
robotics deals with constructing robots from highly compliant materials, similar to those found in
living organisms. In contrast to robots built from rigid materials, soft robots allow for increased
flexibility and adaptability for accomplishing tasks, as well as improved safety when working
around humans. This paper presents a fully fabric based soft robotic wrist brace designed to assist

However, designing molds of different soft elastomeric actuators can be costly in industrial
manufacturing. For elastomeric actuators, some work is also converted to elastic energy in these
actuators, which is wasted as it does not contribute to movement or force generation. Therefore,
these actuators may require high input pressures for their operations. Previous research with
flexible thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) coated fabric [11] has shown that it is a more suitable
material due to their flexible but inextensible characteristics. Hence, when actuators are activated,
the efficiency of fluid power transmission is increased, thereby requiring a lower pressure for
operation. Furthermore, the cost of manufacturing is significantly lower than 3D printing. As a
result, we have chosen to continue working with the TPU coated nylon fabric, which is more
durable than other materials available. In this paper, we have adapted an actuator design
originally used for flexing and extending the fingers for use with the wrist. In the following
sections, the paper covers the design of a fully fabric based soft robotic wrist rehabilitation device
for patients who have suffered from wrist injuries and/or underwent wrist surgeries. This study aims

Dog owners have lamented over the fact that there is no safe and legal area for them to allow their dogs to exercise in. In oppistion non dog owners feel that the construction of a dog park would hamper their ability to peacefully live their life. Whilst there are difficulties to building a dogpark for the community, I believe the pros out weigh the cons. It is a goverment s duty to provide community services for their residents. The following writing sample is an excerpt from the second chapter of my departmental honors thesis The Reliability of Five Commonly Used Ancestral Techniques and their Implications Regarding the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 and Minnesota Statute 307.08 . Chapter II Review of Techniques Interorbital Features Method Over the years, several techniques involving the analysis of human skeletal remains for the purposes of ancestral classification have been developed. Many of the earliest techniques involved the visual comparison of different morphoscopic traits and subsequent classification based on the anthropologist s subjective opinion. Although many of these non metric techniques have been shown to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1979), it performs poorly in correctly classifying Native Americans, especially those from the Northwestern Plains, Central Plains, and Southwest (Gill et al. 1988). Of particular concern is the incorrect classification of Native Americans from the Northwestern Plains, which has been shown to occur 70% of the time when using this technique (Gill and Gilbert 1990). Hoping to address the shortcomings of the Giles and Elliot technique (1962) with regard to Native American populations, the interorbital features method was developed by Gill in 1984 with particular attention paid to accurately distinguishing between individuals of European and Native American descent. The interorbital features method utilizes a specialized coordinate caliper called a simometer (see Appendix I for image) and involves a set of six measurements taken from the midfacial skeleton, followed by computation of three indices: maxillofrontal, zygoorbital, and alpha. The three indices are calculated by dividing three breadth measurements into their corresponding subtense measurements, then multiplying by 100 (Gill et al. 1988). The six measurements as described by Gill et al. (1988) are summarized in detail below, and images of the technique follow (Figure 1). 1.Maxillofrontal breadth: The breadth between the left and right maxillofrontale, where the maxillofrontale is defined as the intersection of the frontomaxillary suture and the medial edge of the eye orbit ... Retrieved from https://search.proquest.com/docview/196889532?accountid=40160 Summary: Michael Romanowski wrote an article called Common Arguments about the Strengths and Limitations of Home schooling. Home schooling is continuing to grow rapidly in many places. He explains that home schooling serves children equally well as public schools. Romanowski supports the main idea by giving claims that home schooling helps a child improve their social skills, children who are homeschooled are more likely to become academically successful, a student is not put on time limit and they are not told to put everything up and focus on a new topic. Home schooling allows children to learn to socialize with older people and stills allows them to socialize outside of their home with community activities. In a world of tough competition and ever changing trends, to be successful and effective in business, you must constantly strive to stay one step ahead of your competitors, and be on the lookout for new ways to get noticed. Social networking has emerged as one of the latest trends in business today, and utilizing the social media for sales, marketing, and recruiting can drive your business and help it flourish. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As reported by Shih (2010), in The Facebook Era, more than 750 million people around the world are on social networking sites, where they seemingly spend more than 20 billion minutes a day. With so many people spending time on social networking sites, it only seems logical that these sites might be used as a stage for marketing, sales, employment prospects, and making business contacts, just to name a few possibilities. With so many choices for social networking platforms, it is important to know what the social web is all about, what different sites are out there and how they differ from one another. Chief among the popular social networking sites are Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Each of these sites is utilized for different reasons, and to best use them to your advantage in business, you should be aware of the differences. Facebook, according to Shih (2010) and many of her sources, is the largest social networking site globally by an order of magnitude, and recently even beat out Google in becoming the most trafficked site on the Internet. With that said, it should be obvious that there is tremendous business potential for marketing, advertisement, and sales on sites such as Facebook. • 6. Infant Eye Development Book Report Growing up we use our key senses to understand and live in the world around us. After birth newborns eyes are still developing and cannot make out fine details far away. Newborns vision is around 20/240, but by 6 months their vision clears up to around 20/40. At birth infants are genetically programmed to know who their mother is and by three months they can match voices with their gender and ethnic groups. Along with being better to distinguish voices, newborns sense of colors also enhances with age. Perceptual vision is very important for infant eye development. This is necessary because without this ability they would see an object at a different distance or in a different orientation, they would perceive it as a different object (Santrock 161). There are two main factors for this size constancy,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book uses the example of how infants were placed on a surface with just glass and the appearance of a drop off. They then would put their mother on the other end calling the babies names, but none would crawl to their mothers. In childhood, the child s ability to see more colors increases. Along with a color increase perception, young children start to develop the ability to overcome gravity bias. After childhood, vision no longer increase, but starts to actually decrease around the age of 40 to 59. Presbyopia happens because there is a decrease of blood supple to the eye and the retina becomes less sensitive to different stimulus. Because the retina is not as active as previous years, it becomes hard for older people to see that well in the dark, and especially driving at night becomes especially dangerous. Color and depth perception also decrease with age. Older adults have a harder time distinguishing closely related colors, especially the green blue violet colors (Santrock 163). • 7. Catch-22, by Joseph Heller Catch 22 is a story about the different personalities that can be involved in a war. Out of all the different archetypes, the three I ve chosen are John Yossarian, Albert Tappman, and Milo Minderbinder, although, not in that order. The first character being analyzed is Yossarian, the unwilling hero of this book. Although the book labels Yossarian as the main character, he constantly tries to coward out of going to battle. The second character that will be described is Milo Minderbinder, the archetypical business person of Catch 22.He runs the camp mess hall and controls what everyone in the camp is buying, selling, and eating. It was like seditious and insidious too, and like socialist, suspicious, fascist and Communist. It was an odious, alien, distasteful name, a name that just did not inspire confidence. It was not at all like such clean, crisp, honest, American names such as Catchcart, Peckem and Dreedle. (Heller 210) The quote above describes the relationship with Colonel Cathcart, in which Cathcart has a worrying doubt about Yossarian and his role in the squadron. Yossarian complains to Doc Daneeka about Colonel Cathcart s dictum regarding the mission count during every visit to the medical tent. Cathcart s opinion about Yossarian also dawns upon the other men who start to wonder about the man with that name and who he actually is. One of the main points within the story is when the soldiers question Yossarian during the death of Lt. Mudd, whom the men continuously call the dead man in Yossarian s tent (Heller 166). A character that changes Yossarian completely about war is Snowden. After Snowden s death, Yossarian is given a medal of honor for fighting through that battle, but unlike the other men, Yossarian shows up in a disorderly fashion. He realizes that he doesn t want to be in a war like atmosphere anymore and starts to long for his trips throughout Italy. • 8. Different Viewpoints On The Autism There are a few different viewpoints on the Autism CARES Act from the taxpayer s perspective. These perspectives are largely based on that person s general beliefs about autism or how this policy affects people with autism spectrum disorders and their families. To many it was clear that the Combating AutismAct (CAA) had been largely unsuccessful and they were looking at how this policy could be improved. General concerns regarding this policy are centered around how the funding is being used and in what ways it is benefiting those with autism. Some believe that this policy would be better if there were a few changes, while others have a negative view of the policy as a whole; people also realize that the policy is not exactly perfect, but it is a start. With the new changes in language for the Autism CARES Act, some are content with how these changes will affect the autism community. The reauthorization of the CAA means that they are still seeking out answers, providing families with educational support, and developing early protection procedures. This policy is important to them, their friends or loved ones, and others with autism because it continues to shine a light on the need for more research and better education, along with the monitoring of services and funding (Tobik, 2014). As Amy Tobik goes on to say, Families need to know that they are supported by their community and by their government and that we are fighting right alongside them to get them the services ... It will analyse childhood theorists sentiments about the Foundation Phase, the notion of play in learning, both indoor and outdoor, and Personal Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity. The Foundation Phase is constructed to provide consistency to each child s education during a crucial stage of their development. • 11. Queen Elizabeth I Essays Queen Elizabeth I was by all rights England s most praised monarch. Her success in her reign, viewed in later centuries, cannot adequately encompass all that she did or how she maintained her power. In part, her endurance stems from the way in which she learned early in life to fight with forces that were not physical, those of her mind, her intellect, and her own spirit. She used her intellect to create an empire. Her education and early training of mind together with her basic understanding of humanity, both of her own and that of her subjects, kept her at the helm for more than forty years. Analysis of her writings, which include speeches, poems, letters, and documents to Parliament, will help readers understand that Elizabeth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Queen Elizabeth I was actually born Elizabeth Tudor, the daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife (after England s split from the Catholic Church), Anne Boleyn. She was crowned Queen of England on January14, 1559 and reined for the next 44 years. She is remembered by such names as the Virgin Queen and Good Queen Bess. Her childhood was a rather tumultuous one, with her father paying very little or no attention to her. Her governess had to write to him saying that Elizabeth needed some clothes because all of the ones that she had were too small. Her mother was executed when she was 2 years old after being accused of adultery, incest etc. After her father s death, the throne went to her Catholic half sister Mary. Mary s policies of burning Protestants at the stake and an unsuccessful war with France, wherein she lost Callais, the last of England s strongholds on the continent, made her less than popular. When Elizabeth was sixteen rumors were spread she had plotted with Thomas Seymour to put him in line for the throne. In addition, the rumor that she was having a love affair with him and was pregnant with his child surfaced. These rumors called into question the value of honor and honesty of the young Lady Elizabeth. In this situation, Elizabeth shows one of her first examples of building her leadership image through her writings. Elizabeth wrote a letter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this case, the Offshore Wind Company (ltd). In this piece, I am looking to investigate the importance of shareholders, their interests, environmental thoughts, and their adverse to success. Stakeholders are very important in today s modern society, as they can hold the key to the company s success. They take care of the financial issues, and decisions made by and for the company. This could be because the seabed would be disturbed and damaged, and the local fishing would be disrupted. Suppliers like to be consulted beforehand also, as this gives them time to prepare the produce so as its ready for the Offshore Wind Company when they want it. If it weren t ready when the Company need it, they might look somewhere else for supplies, so the suppliers wouldn t get their income capital. Local community could be against the wind turbines ruining the countryside and view. This is why stakeholders like to be consulted before any big decisions are made. Success is also another big issue for shareholders. For those such as owners, shareholders, employees, suppliers and financiers it is incredibly important because if the Offshore Wind Company doesn t succeed, they don t get paid. The employees would probably loose their jobs, the owners business would fold, along with the shareholders loosing all their money, the suppliers wouldn t get paid back, and nor would the financiers. • 13. How I Approach Program Development HOW WOULD I APPROACH PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT Upon reading and reflecting the insight and knowledge gained from this case study my three values for a program development and strategic analysis would be: a personal connection with the local population, minimizing hierarchy, and enforcing accountability and transparency in the organization. In terms of who I would work with, I favour the idea of working in a smaller organization. I would accept funds from multilateral organizations, not the government, and I would be working at the local level. Working in a smaller organization at the local level allows for greater accountability and a lesser chance of conflicting motives. As previously mentioned, smaller organizations may lead to exclusion. To prevent this I would be willing to work with like minded small organizations to divide the population. My main interest would be cultivating a relationship with the population. The personal connection with the population is probably the hardest task because we are not all as willing as Roy to immerse ourselves in the community. This relationship also relies on the population because they need to be willing to share and collaborate. This connection is the most important because it allows for the strongest trust and the greatest understanding of the needs in the area that we are working. It also allows us to ensure that our endeavours for the project align with our program. Having an extensive understanding the needs specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My only prior experience was a production of Sexual Perversity in Chicago which I found to be dated (reasonable) and stilted (unacceptable). I also find it annoying that actors, in general find his writing to be so brilliant. Plus the scenes I have seen people do never sound natural: too many cryptic pauses and unfinished thoughts, not enough contractions, and Mamet s penchant for saying do you see? instead of you know? . Making his debut on the political scene primarily around 1919, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi changed the course of India s movement towards independence permanently for the next century. The former British lawyer discovered his niche in government and leadership in South Africa, which he then took back to his homeland of South Asia. By pursuing his moral based political ideology through the use of predominantly non violent non cooperation practices, Gandhi struck made impacts, both positive and negative, throughout the hearts of Indian natives across the nation. Supportive or crtical of Gandhi s beliefs and political methhods for achieving independence from Britain, the statement that Gandhi forever influenced political activism is irrefutable. While Gandhi s set of beliefs consisted of many sub branches and complex economic plots, his sole center of political ideology revolves around morality. He expressed this in an exerpt from Young Indiain 1920, stating, I reject any religious doctrine that does not appeal to reason and is in conflict with morality (Modern South Asia 112). Gandhi s ultimate goal was for the nation to reach such a state of enlightenmnet that no form of representatives would be necessary. • 25. Happiness And Emotions In The Poetry Of Blake And Rossetti At first read, Blake and Rossetti s fascination with the unity of conflicting emotion and their tendency to describe human experiences in contradictory terms might be perplexing. However, there is a reason behind what seems to be madness in the poetry of these writers. The poetry of Blake and Rossetti leads itself to the assertion that the human experience is teeming with both joy and agony. Whether someone lives their life in a state of joy or woe does not depend on whether their experience is positive or negative, because the human experience is both. Rather, someone s happiness or sadness through their life depends on whether they choose to orient their focus to the happiness and joy that exists in the universe or the negative pain that is just as abundant. Though happiness and sadness take many different forms in the poetry, in each form, they are as abundant as they are co dependent. Blake and Rossetti take radical steps to express how related the feelings of joy and woe are in time and space. In fact, in many places, their poetry subtly suggests that one emotioncannot occur without the other, and that no situation is complete without elements of both emotions. Blake s first unification of the two emotions occurs in his poem, Auguries of Innocence. Though sadness and joy are not the main topic of the piece, these two emotions appear multiple times through the poem. Interestingly, they are always referred to together, as Joy Woe . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This exemplifies the mindset in Europe and in western culture in the 19th to 20th centuries, as it shows that even though all countries strive for peace and prosperity, there is nothing equal to winning a war. No matter how great or how profitable a peace is, it would never be as great as triumph in war. This degree of nationalism that Theodore Roosevelt shows can only be achieved in war, combined with the fact that Europeans associated war with religion and as a necessary part of life, led to a very tense atmosphere where war felt inevitable. With all this international tension, militarism became an increasingly important part of each nation s ideals, and with it, the military leaders gained power. One example of this is the beginning of Germany s involvement in WWI, The Kaiser learnt that Britain would remain neutral so long as Germany refrained from attacking France. (...) Their suffering includes inequality, discrimination and indifference towards them and their culture. They are ill treated for which they do nothing. The author describes about his pathetic situation of not having an identity in his own society. The author has put in words the life he lived as an untouchable, as a half caste, and as an impoverished man. Thus the novel leaves a deep impression on the human mind. People are respected for their designation and neglected for their caste. Lower caste people suffer a lot by many means like poverty, education, status etc. only because of their caste. The best way to find out the sufferings of the Dalits and the other marginalised sections is through the words and emotions of those who have lived through the experience and who have the education and talent to write about it. Cognitive enhancement technologies, such as pharmaceutical and genetic cognitive enhancement methods, raise a wide variety of ethical concerns despite their potential to greatly benefit society. This paper will focus on cognitive enhancement drugs, also known as nootropics, such as Adderall, Ritalin, and Modafinil. In this paper, I will argue that we have a moral obligation to utilize pharmaceutical cognitive enhancement methods in order to benefit society as a whole. This general increase in the cognition of the population will result in the ability of these individuals to achieve things which could not have been conceived prior to the implementation of these medical advances (Buchanan, 2011, p. 130). The following excerpt from Science and Engineering Ethics, a scientific journal which explores the ethics of multiple scientific fields of study, describes the effects of cognitive enhancement drugs on healthy individuals, Stimulants enhance memory by increasing neuronal activation or by releasing neuromodulators, facilitating the synaptic changes that underlie learning (Bostrom Sandberg, 2002, p. 316). Application Of A Standardized Curriculum In general, literature in education studies confirms that Rogers s model parsimoniously carries over to research in school health: several researchers have conceptualized implementation within a diffusion of innovation paradigm (Hausman Ruzek, 1995; Henderson Dancy, 2008; McCormick, Steckler, McLeroy, 1995; Parcel et al., 1989; Payne, Gottfredson, and Gottfredson, 2006; Penberthy Millar, 2002). For example, Rogers s adoption invention continuum has been helpful to identify which elements of a reform are modified and directly adopted. Henderson Dancy (2008) demonstrate that new users often adapt and reinvent instructional tools to fit their needs, adding new characteristics that distinguish it from its planned or intended use.... Adopters will filter the information and advice they receive to consider, try, adopt and maintain selectively that fits with their perceived needs, priorities and circumstances (Green, Ottoson, Garcia Hiatt 2009). Thus, it will be important to investigate how teachers/instructors understand a reform and what information effectively motivates them to make a change. The flow of innovation, however, can be portrayed as top down, bottom up, with a reliance on extra organizational sources, learning, and emulation processes. For example, Mintrom and Vergari (1998) present a theoretical argument for integrating insights from policy network studies into diffusion studies, arguing the important role that policy networks, and the policy entrepreneurs embedded in them, can play in the diffusion of policy innovations. Through evidence on state level school choice policy entrepreneurs was collected through a mail survey of education policy experts in each of the 48 contiguous states, they found that policy networks serve to support the diffusion of policy innovations, external or interstate networks serve as important mechanisms for the dissemination of innovative ideas. • 34. The Original Marxist Ideology Of Populism In Venezuela Food sovereignty programs have become a phenomenon in Latin American countries that have left neoliberalism and are looking for an independent future. Venezuela has attempted for the past 15 years to create it s own food sovereignty program to move the country away from an import dependent economy. The Venezuelan government has struggled to obtain the traditional sense of foodsovereignty because of its history with petrol crisis in the 80 s and its current populist regimes that moved away from peasant focused agriculture movement. The country does not fit into the original Marxist ideology of food sovereignty, because it did not account for a society that did not have enough people to grow the food to feed the population of the entire country. Dr. Atkins believed that a diet high in sugar forced the pancreas to produce the hormone insulin, causing the body to store calories as fat. He believed that if we consumed fewer carbohydrates, then our bodies would produce less insulin. By doing so, our bodies would use stored fat for energy, resulting in weight loss. (1) The Atkins Diet consists of four phases. The first phase, referred to as the Induction Phase, lasts for a period of two weeks. During this phase, the dieter has to severely restrict their carbohydrate intake to twenty grams per day. This restriction is necessary for the body to enter ketosis.... Breads and other starchy foods will always be severely restricted. This phase is meant to last a lifetime, and Dr. Atkins claims that eating like this causes people to become much healthier and reduces their chances of chronic diseases. (2) Certain types of foods are permitted while on The Atkins Diet . Most protein rich foods that have little to no carbohydrates are allowed such as meats, seafood, and eggs. Cheeses are allowed, however the dieter needs to read the food labels to be sure that they do not contain a large amount of carbohydrates. Fats and oils are recommended but the dieter needs to make sure that they do not include any which contain Tran s fats. Virgin or extra virgin olive oils are highly recommended. Being overweight or obese increases a person s risk for diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, some types of cancer, stroke, and several other devastating ailments. The percentage of the obese population in the United States has risen from 23% to its present day rate of 30% in only eight yearsv. This skyrocketing trend is most likely related to the increase in portion sizes and calories at many American restaurants, the rising level of stress and expectation during the average workday, and the logarithmic increase in fast food restaurant options over the last 20 years. To understand how the Japanese diet supersedes the typical American dietin numerous health issues, several aspects of the diets must be evaluated. The staples of a typical Japanese diet differ dramatically from the centerpieces of the average American diet. In Japan, the main dietary staple is rice, which only has approximately 100 calories per half cup serving, a negligible amount of fat, and a very low amount of sodium. Incised lines are used to depict intricate decorations on her tunic. In this panel, Athena is flanked on either side by Doric columns, an inscription running up the side of one, and roosters atop both. The significance of the roosters remains unknown, but some have theorized that the presence of the birds could have something to do with the Greek word for rooster, alektruon, which means defender, while others suggest that they are symbolic of Zeus, Athena s father. The neck and the foot of the vase are decorated on both sides. The back of the vase displays a scene from a stadion footrace, the event for which this prize would have been awarded. All 5 athletes in the panel assume the heroically nude state that was more than common in Greek society, and detailed musculature is delineated with the use of incised lines. As with Athena on the other side, Minoan influence is evident in the scene, evidenced by the pinched waists if the runners. Beyond the focal points of both scenes, no details are used to indicate their surrounding landscape, in a very similar fashion to the Berlin painter s style. Also like the Berlin painter, there is evidence of perspective, as the athlete s legs and arms overlap each other to provide a sense of relative space, however, this detail disappears on the other side of the vase, as Athena s spear runs behind her head, contrary to the position it is suggested to take by the way she ... In the novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are portrayed in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Whether the incidents include a fellow character or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness compared to the males, or downright treating the femaleprotagonists like objects or things, they are sometimes cruel and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters are described through hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be appropriate for impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting otherwise. One of the largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and hurtful stereotypes while referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all women should be homemakers who cook and clean. With a pioneering female writer such as Agatha Christie, you would not necessarily expect such blaring misogyny, but it remains all the same. On a broader note, the three main female characters are each stereotypes of the crazy woman one following under her husband even for cruelty, one being bible crazy, and one being so in love she is willing to literally kill anyone who stands in her way. This shows a correlation between the ads and the prescriptions being written (Stange). Drug companies advertise on television so they can successfully pitch directly to their patients. The reason they do this is because these medications are not nearly as good for a patient as they sound, therefore doctors do not prescribe them often. Without DTC advertising, people would not be able to self diagnose and convince themselves that they need a medication for a condition that they do not clinically have. A primitive example for this is adderall, the drug prescribed for patients with ADHD. When food is first placed into the mouth by taking a bite it is masticated and broken down to increase the surface area so that food can be digested faster, as well as allowing it to be swallowed. While being masticated food is moistened with saliva, which contains Amylase, which begins the process of breaking down carbohydrates. Once thoroughly chewed saliva forms the food into a clump, which is called a bolus. Once food is chewed and formed into a bolus the tongue pushes the food to the back of the mouthinto the throat so that it can be swallowed. Swallowing occurs by reflexes opening and closing the epiglottis, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bile that is released is produced by the liver, which then fills the bile duct before overflowing and then being stored in the gallbladder, which then allows it into the duodenum through a duct. In between meals the gallbladder absorbs water and electrolytes from the bile. The bile that is released is used to emulsify fats, which is to make the fats separate into small droplets. This allows them to be mixed with water and then acted upon by enzymes to further help their digestion. It is easier for the lipids to be broken down once they are emulsified because they are smaller and the lipase can attack it more completely. Bile itself is a green colored fluid that is made of minerals, cholesterol, neutral fats, phospholipids, bile acids also called bile salts, and bile pigments. Bilirubin is what gives the color to the bile, and it is produced from the decomposition of hemoglobin as previously stated. Bile acids are steroids that are formed from cholesterol. Both bile acid and lecithin, which is a phospholipid, help digest and absorb fats. Anything else that is in bile is waste that will be excreted. In the end however around eighty percent of the bile acids are reabsorbed in the ileum, which is the last section of the small intestine, and they are returned to the liver where they are absorbed and re secreted by hepatocytes. The circle of secretion and reabsorption is called the enterohepatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Importance Of Comprehensive Site Investigations And... The importance of comprehensive site investigations and getting the right report, and by an EPA accredited auditor can be seen in the court case Charben Haulage Pty Ltd v Environmental Earth Sciences Pty Ltd (2004) FCA 403. In this case Caltex had obtained development consent from the local council to decommission a suburban service station and remediate it to residential standards. A condition of the consent was that an auditor accredited by the EPA would sign off the completed decontamination. A consultant issued a report to Caltex stating that the former service station site was suitable for residential use, and the sale of the service station was completed relying on the report. The contract of sale contained a condition that the site would be suitable for purposes permitted by its current business zoning (in which residential flats were also permitted). However, the council then rejected the consultants report, as an EPA accredited auditor had not signed it off. The purchaser engaged its own accredited auditor, who recommended reporting to the authority that the site posed significant risk of harm to human health and the environment because of contaminated groundwater, off site migration, vapors and the presence of residential units down slope. Work stopped for 10 months, with the council instituting proceedings in the land and environment court to restrain work until an accredited auditor had validated the site, as required by its development consent. Caltex was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Judicial Arms Of The Eu The Court of Justice of the European Union and the General Court are the judicial arms of the EU . Critically analyse with reference to the function, personnel and procedures of these two EU courts. Since the UK joined the EU in 1973 under Edward Heath the UK legal system has been inferior to the EU legal system. The EU s main judicial arms are the Court of the Justice of the European Union (CJEU) which was established under the European Coal and Steel Community Treaty (1951) and the General Court (GC) which was established in 1986. The General Court was originally referred to as the Court of First Instance however has since been renamed under the Lisbon Treaty (2009) as the GC in which cases can be appealed to the CJEU but only on points of law. The EU is only able to legislate on areas where it is empowered to by treaties for example on areas such as trade, competition, single market legislation, agriculture and justice. The CJEU is the highest court in the EU. It is comprised of one judge from each member state and is supported by eight Advocate Generals whose role it is to provide an impartial and public opinion on the case brought before the CJEU. The primary function of the CJEU is to ensure that the interpretation and application of the EU law established by treaties is observed (Treaty of Rome: 1958). This is a necessity as the homogenous responsibility of the EU needs to be maintained as to insure community relationships between member states. The GC is a branch ... • 52. Soft Robotic Arm Rehabilitation devices are an essential part of the medical industry as they serve the purpose of returning a person to his/her original flexibility or movement. Conventional rehabilitation exercises utilise rigid and heavy robotic devices that are limited to the clinical setting. Soft robotics deals with constructing robots from highly compliant materials, similar to those found in living organisms. In contrast to robots built from rigid materials, soft robots allow for increased flexibility and adaptability for accomplishing tasks, as well as improved safety when working around humans. This paper presents a fully fabric based soft robotic wrist brace designed to assist wrist impaired patients in rehabilitation exercises. The wrist brace... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, designing molds of different soft elastomeric actuators can be costly in industrial manufacturing. For elastomeric actuators, some work is also converted to elastic energy in these actuators, which is wasted as it does not contribute to movement or force generation. Therefore, these actuators may require high input pressures for their operations. Previous research with flexible thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) coated fabric [11] has shown that it is a more suitable material due to their flexible but inextensible characteristics. Hence, when actuators are activated, the efficiency of fluid power transmission is increased, thereby requiring a lower pressure for operation. Furthermore, the cost of manufacturing is significantly lower than 3D printing. As a result, we have chosen to continue working with the TPU coated nylon fabric, which is more durable than other materials available. In this paper, we have adapted an actuator design originally used for flexing and extending the fingers for use with the wrist. In the following sections, the paper covers the design of a fully fabric based soft robotic wrist rehabilitation device for patients who have suffered from wrist injuries and/or underwent wrist surgeries.
