Chewing Gum
Although chewing gum isn t an amazing invention I like chewing gum and I wondered who made this
wonderful invention. The first chewing gum was called resin made from the sap of spruce trees. The
New Englanders settled and found this chewing gum and want to make it more. In 1848, John Curtis
made and sold the first chewing gum. They called it the State of Maple Pure Spruce Gum. Even
though John Curtis invented it in 1848, scientists think North Europeans were chewing birch wood tar
around 9,000 years ago! Even the Ancient Maya shewed a substance called chicle. Curtis built the first
chewing gum factory in the 1850s. the factory stood in Portland, Maine. As it turns out resin was not
very good to chew on because it became brittle after it was

Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Abortion
Abortion: the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by
the death of the embryo or fetus. Throughout our lives we are constantly taking other people s
opinions into consideration. We care more about what people think of us, rather than how we think of
ourselves. In reality, the only opinion that matters is your own. Abortion has been legal since 1973.
People have been arguing whether it should be legal or illegal ever since. Abortion should stay
legalized for various reasons. A woman has rights, and these rights include what she gets to do with
her body. The U.S. Supreme Court decided in favor of abortion rights during the case of Roe v. Wade
on January 22, 1973. They stated that This right of privacy... is broad enough to encompass a woman s
decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. People argue that a baby is capable of feeling pain
when it is killed. This is completely false. A developing fetus s brain starts to structure between the 7th
and 8th months of gestation and during this time they start to perceive pain. This is far past the time
when an abortion is carried out. So technically, the baby can t feel anything at the time of the ... Show

Nobody wants to feel unwanted. Getting pregnant is an extremely important decision between two
people that requires consideration, preparation, and tedious planning. If you force a women to keep
her baby, regardless of what she wants, then the rate of unwanted and neglected children will spike.
These children who aren t properly cared for often end up committing crimes or getting involved with
illegal activities. Studies show that legalized abortion has directly affected the decrease in the amount
of crimes being committed per year. If you raise a child that you carefully planned for, in a welcoming
home, then it is less likely that the child will end up getting involved in suspicious

Cadillac Checking Account
A premium checking account, often referred to as a Cadillac checking account, has many benefits.
Although this type of account is not beneficial to everyone, for those that use a variety of financial
products, it can be a great money saver. In addition, it can make your personal finances much easier.
The following are three ways that this type of checking account can benefit you. These accounts are
essentially free Although it is true that banks will advertise flat, monthly fees for these accounts, they
are only in place to make sure that those with lessor financial means do not attempt to use them.
Banks are willing to provide free checking to those who are willing to maintain larger than average
balances in their accounts. For this reason,

The Importance Of Technology In The Organization
The world we live in today is more complicated, competitive and technologically advanced, and there
is always a demand for resource and if the existing resources are not utilized properly it leads to poor
results. Technology is a component that can be used for the productive use of resources. But
employees in the organization often resist adapting to technology. Introducing new technology and
tools into an organization can increase productivity, boost sales, and help you make better, quicker
decisions however getting every employee adjust to the change in technology is often a challenge.
Organization very constantly face the challenge of adapting themselves to the technology and it
depends on its employees to overcome the change and employees need the stimulation to adapt to the
change and this reminds me of a famous quote You can t build an adaptable organization without
adaptable people and individuals change only when they have to, or when they want to (Gary Hamel).
As per Gary Hamel individuals only change when they have to or when they want to and Motivation
is a factor that can drive individuals to change or adapt to technology. Motivation is the key ingredient
to bring about a change in the employees which can lead to the success of an organization.
Organizations even though they have all the technical skills, will not be successful if they are not able
to motivate their team to take up change. The manager or leader or the organization should have the
skill to

Marketing plan contains of marketing objectives and strategies for segmentation, target markets,
positioning, and marketing mix (Kotler Armstrong, 2010, p.78).
A clear marketing plan will acts as a proposal for the company to achieve goals. Other than that, a
clear marketing plan will also achieve competitive advantage in term of cost leadership, and the
differentiation of new or existing products and services (Keetch, n.d.). With a marketing plan, the
company will know the pricing of the competitors, thus the company will try to reduce the cost of the
product and lower the price in order to compete with competitors. Through differentiation strategy,
company will distinguish their own products by increasing the quality of the products or making
improvement towards the product to gain competitive advantage.
The drawback of marketing plan is marketing plan will lead to wrong decision making (Bellis, n.d.).
Wrong analysis of the data and wrong interpretation in marketing plan will lead company to a wrong
decision making. A wrong decision making will cause company a huge loss in term of monetary and
also market share.
Moreover, there is insufficient information regarding LEGO in the Malaysian market. Most of the

The Legacy Of Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was born April 13, 1743, in Shadwell, Virginia. His mother was Jane Randolph
Jefferson, his father was Peter Jefferson, and he was the third of ten children. As a child he liked to
explore in the woods, play the violin, and read. In 1757 he started attending a private school run by
Reverend William Douglas and Reverend James Maury in which he studied Latin, Greek,
mathematics, and literature. After studying there for three years he went to The College of William
and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He studied there for three years, and then studied law under
Wythe for five years. In 1767 he won admission to Virginia Bar. From 1767 through 1764 he practiced
law. He took up many cases and won a large majority of them. During that time he also met and
married Martha Wayles Skelton, and they had six children together, only two of which lived until
adulthood. Jefferson s political career began in 1768 when he was elected to the House of Burgesses
where he promoted America s independence from England. He also wrote his first major political
composition, A Summary View of the Rights of British America which gained him the reputation as
the most eloquent writer of the American cause. In 1775 he attended the Second Continental Congress
In June of 1776 Congress put Jefferson with a five man committee composed of himself, John Adams,
Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston to draft the Declaration of Independence.

book that has tension in the beginning and suspense in the ending, it s a good short story but, it s a bit
confusing ,messed up and shows faith is not to be messed with. In the beginning Mr.White was
waiting a visit from a old friend who travels around the world. When he came over he showed him a
magical paw that grants any man 3 wishes but it has a twist to it every wish you grant will be more
bad than good. The man name was sergeant major. The man told Mr.White and his family that the

Trichotillomania Onset Pregnancy
Introduction:
Trichotillomania is characterized by recurrent episodes of hair pulling behavior leading to noticeable
loss of hair, increasing tension before hair pulling or while coping with the urge to pull out hair, taking
pleasure or a sense of relief while pulling out hair, and social, occupational, and functional
impairment1.
Trichotillomania can involve any area in the body; however, the most common areas are the scalp,
followed by the eyebrows and eyelashes in children and in adults2. The seriousness of the pulling
behavior is perceived over time, and the disease exhibits a chronic course and it is resistant to
therapy3. It has been reported that patients with trichotillomania often did not feel pain while pulling
out hair, followed a particular pattern of hair pulling, and often chose strands with unusual appearance,
and exhibit repetitive behavior such as engaging oral stimulation after hair pulling4 5. Some studies
have suggested that trichotillomania had many common features with obsessive compulsive disorder4
5.Here we discuss a patient with trichotillomania onset pregnanacy case.
Case :
KD is a 19 years old female, married, secondary school graduate who is currently unemployed. The
patient was admitted to the juvenile outpatient clinic accompanied by her parents with the complaints
of anxiety and pulling out eyebrow that lasted for 2 weeks. It was realized that the patient did not have
similar past complaints, or she has not been admitted to the psychiatry

Public Space And Public Art
While we often move through different spaces in society continuously, many individuals do not
necessarily regard the importance of these urban spaces within their daily lives. It is important to
consider the definition of public space in order to further explore certain activities that take place
within this sphere. According to Mehta (2014), a definition of public space that focuses on the access
and use of space, defines this space as publicly accessible places where people go for group or
individual activities (p. 54). Thus, these are spaces that contain a variety of different uses and for the
purpose of this paper one particular use that explores public space in an alternative way is public art
festivals. Public art has been a large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Nuit Blanche 2017 focuses around the theme Many Possible Futures which allows for further
exploration of the challenges and crisis within Canadas history and day to day. As a result, this event
encourages individuals to explore the everyday spaces of the city and offers numerous possibilities on
how the cities spaces can be used. This paper wishes to put forth the idea that Nuit Blanche is used as
means of enhancing awareness of social issues into the public sphere through the use of transforming
everyday spaces with art. This begins by recognizing that Nuit Blanche allows individuals to revisit
the ways in which spaces are used in the city. In addition, the festival helps individuals regain an
understanding of public space through the various messages being communicated. Lastly, it promotes
the development and growth of social life within the public sphere.
In order to achieve a critical investigation of the Nuit Blanche festival one particular zone of interest is
the art exhibits located around Queens Park and University of Toronto. Queens Park on Wellesly

area. The park was created between 1886 and 1892 as a legislative building for the province of

Measuring Fair Value Accounting Standards
Fair Value accounting is a measurement application to value assets and liabilities based on current
transactions among buyers and sellers in the market. In other words, the price market participants pay
or receive in an orderly transaction at a certain date. There are different techniques for measuring fair
values depending on asset and market activity. It includes market approach, cost approach, and income
approach. Financial Accounting standards (FAS 157) defines fair value as the price that would be
received to sell an asset or paid to transfer a liability in an orderly transaction between market
participants at the measurement date (FASB, 2006). Different levels of inputs are also utilized in
measuring values of assets and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, Historical Cost accounting is defined by recording assets or liabilities on its acquired cost.
The nominal value that a company paid for an asset or recorded a liability. This measurement is based
on a cost principal that states to record assets/liabilities at the acquisition value. In this approach,
assets or liabilities are adjusted to its net realizable value in a systematic manner. For example,
depreciation of fixed assets, amortization of intangible assets, and depletion of natural resources.
These rational and systematics approaches to adjust assets value to bring these instruments to its
carrying value, deviating from the recorded historical cost. HCA (Historical Cost Accounting) and
FVA (Fair Value Accounting) measurements techniques are accepted by both accounting standard
setters FASB (Financial Accounting Standard Board) and IASB (International Accounting Standard
board). Under both measurement approaches, there could be significant differences in reporting,
measuring, adjusting, and disclosing values of assets and liabilities. GAAP (Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles) and IFRS (Internal financial Reporting Standards) mostly apply fair value
concepts to financial assets and liabilities up to certain extent. On the other hand, HCA is usually used
for fixed assets e.g. property, plant and equipment. FVA measurements are not fixed and fluctuate due
to market volatility, but HCA values are mostly fixed and change under certain

Corrosion Of Mild Steel And Its Effect On The Natural State
Mild steel is an alloy of iron and 0.2 % carbon widely used in construction, as it is readily available,
malleable and relatively inexpensive. One use of mild steel is on the hulls of seafaring ships.
However, corrosion due to the salt water environment and pounding waves is a major problem with
the use of steel. Metallic corrosion is estimated to amount to 4% of a developed country s GDP per
year. Therefore corrosion of mild steel and its prevention are major concerns.
Metallic corrosion occurs in the presence of oxygen and water. It is the electrochemical degradation of
metals to their natural state. These states are more stable than high energy metallic states (Escobar
Cantu, 2011). An electrolyte, such as salt water, will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most negative E0 values are placed at the top and the most positive are placed at the bottom (see
appendix 1.4). The closer to the top of the series a metal is (the more negative it is), the more likely
the metal is to lose electrons and oxidise. This works in the reverse as well, the more positive the E0
value, the more the metal will reduce. When metals are paired together, the metal with the higher
oxidising strength (lower on the table) will be reduced (Clark, 2013). The electrochemical series is
used in cathodic protection to determine a more reactive metal which can be sacrificed to protect a pre
existing metal.
Another way of determining the reducing and oxidising agent in a redox reaction is to examine the
change in oxidation numbers. An oxidation number represents the total amount of electrons that an
atom loses or gains to form a chemical bond. Oxidation numbers are assigned according to a set of
rules and depend on the electronegativity of the element. In redox reactions the oxidation number of
an oxidant will decrease. This is because the element is being reduced, receiving negatively charged
electrons. The oxidation number of a reductant will increase because the substance has more
positively charged protons than negatively charged electrons.
The corrosion of iron is an example of a redox reaction where change in oxidation numbers and the
electrochemical series can be used to determine reduction and oxidation. Iron

The Iliad s Ares-The Greek God Of War
Ares, God of War
Ares the Greek God of War was a important but highly feared god as well as being hated by most
other gods. His symbols that he is known for is the spear, helmet, dog, chariot, boar, vulture, and a
flaming torch. Ares also has two sacred animals one being a vulture and the other one being a dog.
Ares is described to have almost no personality however he is known to be highly aggressive, very
unstable, and dangerous in battle. In the Iliad he is described to hateful, murderous, bloodstained, and
to be the incarnate curse of mortals. Even though he was feared but most gods he was also referred to
as a coward because if he was just slightly injured in battle he would become outraged and leave the
battle because of that injury. Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera both of which actually despised him

The Importance Of Neglect
The prevalence of strokes in our country and our world are high. Globally, a stroke claims a life about
every ten seconds. If an individual has a stroke and survives, it is also the leading cause of disability
(Campaign, n.d.). Strokes vary in their severity and recovery, but one somewhat common occurrence
is experiencing hemispatial neglect following a stroke. Hemispatial neglect, or neglect, is claimed to
occur in about a third of all stroke patients (Klinke et al., 2015). Neglect is a disorder of attention that
typically follows brain damage that is unilateral. It has been reported as a strong predictor of stroke

Analysis Of The Book David Garland
David Garland begins by asserting: We quickly grow used to the way things are. His description of our
contemporary culture of control, and of our acceptance of it, calls to mind the mythical frog in the
saucepan: dropped into hot water the frog is startled and leaps out; but if the heat is turned up
gradually, it sits there without noticing until it boils to death. In our case our in the book refers to
Britain and the United States most of us have failed to notice a quite rapid turning up of the heat.
Americans, Garland observes, now seem accustomed to living in a country that executes an average of
more than two people per week and has a prison population of more than 2 million. Britons, with
extraordinarily little protest, have adjusted to living with an Orwellian level of closed circuit TV
surveillance and a prison population whose growth rate, if not its actual number, is beginning to rival
that of the US. Such a state of affairs, he notes, only 30 years ago would have seemed shocking, even
to the best informed and most up to date observer. Indeed, he insists, the trajectory of British and
American crime control over the past three decades has been almost exactly the contrary of that which
was anticipated as recently as 1970 .
The Culture of Control describes this trajectory, explains how and why it confounded expectations,
and concludes with a view of what it portends. I shall quibble in a moment with the book s optimism
about where it is headed, but first

Animal Fur In The 1800 s
During the 1800 s, there was a noticeable spike in demand for animal fur s, pelt s, and hide s.
Especially in distant countries such as Spain and England. People believed that wearing the fur s or
having them around the house, such as rugs or throws was a sign of their wealth. Due to this sudden
high demand, men began noticing they could generate a significant amount of money by opening
businesses and selling the animal fur s, hide s, and pelt s as well as, other supplies for trapping and
other jobs. In 1833, three business partners decided they wanted to take a chance and open a fur
trading post as well. However, not only was this trading post for selling goods, it would also become
headquarters for an Army unit. In an open area now known as La Junta, Colorado, the three business
partners, brothers William and Charles Bent, and Ceran St. Vrain opened their first trading post,
naming it Bent s Fort. Bent s fort quickly became a very popular and successful trading post in

Sacrament of Reconciliation
Religion CPT: Sacrament of Reconciliation The Sacrament of Reconciliation is when we receive
mercy and forgiveness for the sins we commit against God and the people around us. It is a frequently
practiced sacrament in the Catholic community often helping many people around us release the guilt
inside us and seek help to solve our problems. The Sacrament of Reconciliation has many symbols
involved within and has many benefits to it, allowing us to bond and connect with God. The
Sacrament of Reconciliation is also known as the Sacrament of Penance or Confession. It shows that
God is forgiving and loving, and that every time we confess our sins, we reconcile with God. Many
Catholics participate in this Sacrament because after they confess, they experience great feelings such
as relief, peace, freedom, and love. Public sins are confessed within a group, publicly. However,
private sins are confessed during private confessions in which the sinner is anonymous to the priest
and they would confess individually. There are five main symbols included in the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. The first symbol is a single key or a pair of keys where they are normally crisscrossed
to form To 2 an X . This symbol came from the time where Jesus talked to Peter and said, I will give
you the keys to the kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and
whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven. (Matthew 16:19) This showed that Jesus

The Abolishment of Slavery Essay
Abolishment of Slavery Slavery was caused by economic factors of the English settlers in the late
17th century. Colonists continually tried to allure laborers to the colony. The head right system was to
give the indentured servant, a method of becoming independent after a number of years of service.
Slavery was caused by economic reasons. Colonists chiefly relied on Indentured Servitude, in order to
facilitate their need for labor. The decreasing population combined with a need for a labor force, led
colonists to believe that African slaves were the most efficient way to acquire a labor force that would
satisfy their needs. Slaves were people who were taken from their homeland in Africa and brought to
America, to serve as servants on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the time around 1850, tensions were rising on the issue of slavery between the North and the
South. New states were being admitted to the United States, but the decisions to make them a free
state or a slave state were what really mattered. As an example, California was admitted to the Union
as a free state, and this angered the south very much because slavery was a very important factor to
the South s economy. The Compromise of 1850 was developed to help soothe the tensions on each
side. This Compromise had several provisions: California was admitted to the Union as a free state;
the territories of New Mexico and Utah were created without restrictions of slavery; the slave trade
was abolished in Washington, D.C.; Congress passed a stricter fugitive slave law. This compromise
showed just how important slavery was to each side, and it gives us a good idea of why it could be
important as one of their goals during the Civil War. With slavery in mind, it brought about ideas of
succession to the South. Because the South was scared of Lincoln abolishing slavery, they thought it
would be a wise decision to secede from the Union. In fact, Lincoln had no plans of abolishing
slavery, but stated that it should not spread to the territories. The South basically misunderstood and
decided to secede anyway. The reason slavery was so important to the South, and lead them to break
apart from the Union was that it

Value Of Belongingness Theory
Roy Baumeister and Mark Leary s article attends to develop and evaluate the hypothesis that a need to
belong is fundamental human motivation. This distinct section examined and focused on the
applicability of the need to belong. More precisely, the authors state the hypothesis that human beings
have a certain drive to form and keep at least a minimum amount of positive and significant
interpersonal relationships. The object of the authors is to increase the scholarship around sense of
belonging and advance in the field of psychology and outside of it. It is provided in the beginning of
the article what are the dimensions of this topic and in what context it fits in. At the interdisciplinary
level, the belongingness hypothesis might help psychology in many different ways; one of them is to
recompose itself from the challenge placed by cultural materialism. Thus, the belonging hypothesis
has considerable value for personality and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article also attends to respond how people get motivated from interpersonal bonds. Thus, despite
of the frequent, speculative assertions that people need to belong, the belongingness hypothesis needs
to be critically evaluated. There is an immense necessity for empirical evidence. One of the goals for
this article is to convoke a large body of empirical evidence. Baumeister and Leary are seeking to
examine the vast amount of untested information about need to belong (p.497). In addition, the
authors mention that the hypothesis implies that people should struggle to achieve a certain minimum
amount and quality of social contacts but that once this level is surpassed, the motivation should
diminish. The need is not to all kind of bonds, it has its limitations. Something relevant for the vast
majority of readers is the fact that people will gradually experience less satisfaction on formation of

The Importance Of The Opium Wars In China
The Opium Wars took place in China from 1839 to 1860, between Western forces and the Qing
dynasty, which ruled China from 1644 to 1912. The first Opium War occurred from 1839 to 1832 and
was fought between China and Britain. In the 17th and 18th centuries, European demand for Chinese
goods (particularly silk, porcelain, and tea) created a trade deficit between Great Britain and Qing
Imperial China. In 1839, China s Emperor had enough of British drug smuggling and suspended all
British trade with China, beginning the first Opium War. In 1842, the Qing Dynasty was forced to sign
the Treaty of Nanking, which granted protection and immunity to Britain, and opened five treaty ports
to foreign suppliers, among other things. The second Opium War, also referred to as the Anglo French
War in China, occurred from 1856 to 1860, and was fought by Britain and France against China. The
failure of the Treaty of Nanking to satisfy British goals of enhanced trade and diplomatic relations led
to the second war. In both opium wars, the foreign powers were victorious and obtained commercial
advantages and legal and territorial concessions in China. The wars began an era of unequal treaties on
Qing sovereignty that helped weaken the dynasty and eventually lead to the collapse in favor of
republican China. The opium wars are significant because they humiliated the Chinese, who still
considered themselves a great and powerful empire. The wars were also a clear example in showing
the world that China could be pushed around by distant foreign powers. Contemporary Chinese still
feel the need to prove themselves on the world stage because of this.
Following the Opium Wars and the Treaty of Nanking, the Qing dynasty struggled to maintain control
and legitimacy. Searching for an alternative, hundreds of thousands of disillusioned peasants joined
what became known as the Taiping Rebellion. It was a civil war in China that lasted from 1850 to
1864 and was fought between Qing dynasty and the Christian millenarian movement of the Heavenly
Kingdom of Peace, which was created by Hong Xiuquan. Hong thought God had sent him to rid the
world of evil. The Taiping Rebellion claimed to herald a new era of economic and social justice.

Tara s OCD drifts her friends away from her and to her throughout the entire book the only friend that
seems to stick with her is Donna until she gets sent away by her parents. Her other friends are

not make it easy for them to be happy so they both turn to drinking. Because they are so worn out

Report On Tesco s Impairment
Question 11 Report on Tesco s Impairments Executive Summary Tesco reported a write down of £7bn
in one off charges in the 2014 financial results, which is the first set of the whole year financial results
by the new chief executive Dave Lewis and this practice is called kitchen sinking. This report gives
explanation of its definition, the reason why Tesco adopted this approach and how it tested impairment
under the accounting standard (IAS). Introduction Tesco is one of the biggest retailer in UK which
provides food and non food products. However, a £4.7 billion property impairment results to a loss of
£6.4 billion. Tesco reported a massive property write down of £7bn in the 2014 financial results of one
off items, which contains restructuring costs, goodwill, impairments and resolution of the commercial
income recognition scandal in September 2014 (John Stokdyk 2015). This is the first set of whole year
financial results by the new chief executive Dave Lewis and it gives the corporate and its investors a
kitchen sinking. The practice, kitchen sinking, is a term used when a recently nominated chief
executive announce all the bad news at once that found in the company and report it in an early
financial results announcement to make any succeeding results look more impressive. The reason is to
keep the company away from negative accounting issues and to assure investors realise who is to
blame. Main Findings The Tesco s accounting team under Dave Lewis put every write off,

The Iroquois tribe has been around since before the 1500 s. Their stories have been passed down and

The culture of the Iroquois mostly revolved in their tribes and clans. The women owned all property

One day, specifically September 23, 2015, Mason was just driving around looking for a way to pass

it, the walls were already showing himself as a teenager that was thirteen years old. Mason kept
watching his memories on the walls play his life before his eyes. Mason was so mesmerized that he
didn t even realize the cave was filling up with water.
He had reached the point where he was seeing himself in the cave watching the memories. Soon, as he

The Green Berets and Casualties of War
The Green Berets and Casualties of War The films I chose to do my comparative paper on are The
Green Berets and Casualties of War. Both of these films deal with issues concerning the Vietnam War.
The Vietnam War was viewed as unpopular and pointless by society; The Green Berets objective was
to gain support for the Vietnam War. The film puts great emphasis on liberal war journalist George
Beckwith (David Janssen). Beckwith originally doubts America s involvement in the war, but after
spending time with the Green Berets, his attitude changes significantly. Casualties of War has a
different perspective on the Vietnam War. The film is based on a real life incident and it focuses on the
emotional and psychological aspects of war. The film ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lighting is also used to tell the dramatic state of mind of a character, as is the case with Private
Eriksson in Casualties of War. Eriksson suffers an injury from combat and taken to a hospitable.
Shadows from the fan blowing on him go around his face in a rapid motion. As this is shown, Eriksson
dreams of hearing the screams of the Vietnamese woman who was killed by Sergeant Meserve. As the
screams increase in volume, the shadows from the fan go around Eriksson s face at a faster pace.
Right when the screams and shadows reach their height in intensity, Eriksson wakes up from his
dream. With this expressionistic use of lighting, it allows the audience to see how much of an impact
the murder of the Vietnamese woman had on Eriksson. Now that we have covered lighting, let s take a
look at color in these two films. The use of color in The Green Berets creates a mood for the audience.
The Green Berets were labeled the liberators from oppression, and the film creates an environment
that is colored in green to express that slogan. By using the color green, it creates a tranquil and
comfortable mood for the audience. The colors blue and green help create what a character is feeling.
This is proven when George Beckwith is telling John Wayne about his change of heart toward the war.
The shot shows Beckwith with a blue sky and

There are few types of wolves that live in canada. The wolves that are left in Canada we should

Online Video Game Is A Game Of Probability For Money Essay
The denotative meaning of gambling as defined by the online dictionary is the activity or practice of
playing a game of chance for money or other stakes (Dictionary.com). Online video game is a video
game which is or can be played over a computer network (now usually the Internet); (later) especially
one enabling two or more players to participate simultaneously from different locations
(oxforddictionaries.com). It is imperative to indicate that gambling is an online video game in this
regard. Therefore, the connotative meaning of online video gambling in relevance to the above
definitions is the perpetual playing of a game of probability for money over the internet with other
players participating in the game simultaneously from different location around the world. For one to
become a player of the game; an investment usually in the form of money has to be made, and this is
where the effects of playing this game come into play both positive and adverse. Online gambling has
not affected the players, but it has also over the affected and changed the traditional casino as to be
discussed in the later part of this paper. It is important to divulge that one needs to have a good sense
of discipline and functional approach as well as excising optimum mental and financial control in
order to harness the positive effects of online gambling video games. These sentiments are supported

Beach Boys Caroline
For this week s listening journal, I listened to Caroline No by The Beach Boys. There are many
characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and the
musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of Caroline
No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response relationship.
The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this exchange occurred a
couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made the piece seem melancholic
and mysterious and sets the mood for the rest of the song. The quality of the voice was interesting
because it was unlike most songs of The Beach Boys I have heard of before. Throughout the song, The
Beach Boys have a slow and relaxing tempo that does not shift as the piece progresses. For the most
part, the tempo remains steady and slow. This steady tempo is accompanied by lyrics that relate to the
overall melancholic mood of the song. The song talks about a girl named Caroline that used to be a ...

Second Wave Of Feminism
Feminism is the fight for equality among the sexes. It can be dated back to the mid 19th century with
women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. The first wave feminist procured the right
to vote for American women. The following second and third waves built upon what the founding
feminists created. The second wave of feminism was set off by the disenchantment women across
America were experiencing. This disenchantment was caused by the nuclear family, and the roles that
the women in the 1950s were thrust into. The second wave is said to have lasted from the 1960s
1980s. Sometime after the 1980s, most likely the early to mid 1990s, third wave feminists began to
rear their heads. The third wave build on the advancements made by the first and second waves. There
has been controversy regarding the thought that the third wave is actually just an extension of the
second. This paper will explore the second and third waves of feminism as well as their relationship
between themselves. The second wave of feminism is said to have been born in 1963 with the
publication of the Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan. Friedan s ground breaking novel took an
introspective look into the life of a woman in the 1950s. It questioned all of the roles that women were
expected to portray. The 1950s woman was supposed to be a wife first, a mother second, and a
somewhere much further down the list. Friedan made this women question if they were really okay
with living in the margins. The second wave took what the first wave had done and ran with it. They
were fighting for equality among sexes, reproductive rights for women, women s role in the work
place, and domestic violence, and they established the crisis surrounding rape in America. There were
many key events that occurred during the second wave of feminism. In 1960 the Pill was approved by
the FDA. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy established the President s Commission on the Status of
Women. He appointed Eleanor Roosevelt the chair of the commission. JFK also signed into law the
Equal Pay Act of 1963. Then, in1964 Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. After
the creation of the National Organization for Women (NOW), an executive order was issued by

Daniel Goleman, the guru of emotional intelligence, identified self awareness as being made up of

knowing your emotions, your personal strengths and weaknesses, and having a strong sense of your

People who lack self awareness find living a truly happy and productive life difficult. This can be

Dialectical Journal For Orpheus
A passage in unit 3, pages 121 160,was about a man named, Orpheus, who was the son of the Muses
and a Thracian prince. His sad story begins happily when he waits for his bride to be, to marry him.
But tragically his bride dies after being stung by a viper and he quickly gets on a boat, to go to the
underground world to get his bride back. As it says, O Gods who rule the dark and silent world, To
you all born of a woman needs must come. All lovely things at last go down to you. You are the debtor
who is always paid. A little while we tarry up on earth. Then we are yours forever and forever. But I
seek one who came to you too soon. The bud was plucked before the flower bloomed. I tried to bear

This passage fits the novel because it helps add to the plot line. For instance, Orpheus was devoted
after his wife s passing. Therefore, he was determined to go to the Underground world or also called
the world of death, and try to convince the ruler of Hades (ruler of the dead) to bring his wife,
Eurydice, back to life. With Orpheus is a mortal amongst the great gods who inherit musical talent, he
sang his heart out to the Gods of the dead and stole the hearts of their evil souls. They eventually
became hypnotized by his angel like voice and granted his wishes. Unfortunately, his wife banished
through his eyes after the Gods strictly told him not to look back at his wife until they were above the
ground of the Death world. The novels read, Then he turned to her her. It was too soon... She had
slipped back into the darkness. All he heard was one faint word, farewell, (142). After this happened,
Orpheus tried to go back to the second world, but they refused to let him entrance again because he
was a mortal who ve already passed through their world. The importance of this passage in the novel s
message is that when you love someone so much, never let them go because one day they could

Dante s Inferno, By Dante The Pilgrim
Dante, Inferno Throughout the epic poem Inferno, Dante the Pilgrim travels in the different circles of
Hell told by Dante the Poet. The story examines what a righteous life is by showing us examples of
sinful lives. Dante is accompanied by his guide Virgil, who takes him on a journey to examine sin and
the effects it has in has in the afterlife to different sinners. Through the stories of Francesca and Paolo,
Brunetto Latini, Ulysses and Guido da Montefeltro, we are able to understand that people are self
interested in the way they act and present themselves to others and that those in Hell are there because
they have sinned and failed to repent their sins and moral failings. The story of Brunetto Latini teacher

Francesca was married to Paolo s brother and one day while Francesca and Paolo were reading the
story of Lancelot and Guinevere, and when they got to the romantic part of the story they confessed to
each other and kissed. Francesca s husband found out shortly after and had both of them killed.
Francesca s sin was not only adultery, but also failure to accept her own responsibility for her actions.
In the story of Lancelot is about the fall of Camelot and the consequence of adultery, which shows that
Francesca and Paolo knew what they were getting themselves into and that there would be
consequences. Francesca blamed Paolo for everything, as if she didn t have control over anything that
happened. This is shown when Francesca is explaining to Dante why she is in hell. Love, that excuses
no one loved from loving, seized me so strongly with delight in him, (Dante, Inferno, V, line 103 104).
From this we can clearly see how she is completing blaming her actions solely on love rather than
standing up and taking responsibility for the actions she has committed. She said that love held her
down so strongly that it drew her to Paolo and that she had no way of escaping. After hearing this,
Dante becomes faint, for Francesca has seduced him, she disguised her sin with a love story, making it
sound like she had no fault at all. From the story

Grapevine Personal Statement
One reason I would like to Volunteer at Baylor Scott White in Grapevine Is to get exposure to
different medical fields inside the hospital. I know that this program is not a shadowing opportunity or
anything of that nature. However, every time I step foot in a hospital I get extremely excited and ready
to go to medical school. I am not only doing this for the experience though. One of the things that
brings me the most joy in life is being able to help people. In fact, that is one of the reason s I want to
go into the medical field. Something I hope to gain from this experience is learning more about the
hospital environment. Once again I know this isn t a job shadowing opportunity but being able to be
inside the hospital, I can potentially still learn a lot from observing my surroundings. Another thing I
would like to be able to gain from this experience is to learn even more people skills than I already
know. I have a job so I do have the people skills necessary to work, but I would love to learn more

Malware And Its Effects On Our Computer
Have you ever been surfing the web when all of a sudden a vibrant window pops up congratulating
you for being the nth visitor and the lucky recipient of some amazing prize which you ll receive just as
soon as you enter your email address or download a file? Almost everyone encounters a pop up like
this every now and then. Some of us, including myself, have even followed the instructions only to
learn that we ve helped a malware program run on our computer.
Malware, also known as malicious software, has a deep history behind it. By definition, malware is a
code or a software that is designed to damage, disrupt, steal, or inflict malice in some form or another
on computer data, personal files, hosts, or networks. It poses a major threat to home and business
computers worldwide and there aren t many means to stop it.
Malware comes in a variety of forms, and from a variety of sources. Over the last few decades
malware has grown more sophisticated and more dangerous. The main types of malware include
computer viruses, worms, trojans, and bots. Malware can be separated further into sub categories such
as backdoor trojans, remote access trojans, information stealers, and ransomware. The different forms
of malware use different techniques to damage or infect the targeted computer. However, all malware
has one thing in common, self replication. Before we can learn about this self replication that is key to
all malware today, we must learn about the evolution of malware. The evolution

Leadership in Remember the Titans Essay
Remember the Titans
In the movie Remember the Titans , there are many management concepts covered throughout the
movie and he is the agent in the movie. The players on the Titans are the targets of the influence.
Remember the Titans is the perfect movie for Exam 3. It covers many topics that were on the exam,
and this class has given me a different way of looking at the movie. I have seen the movie many times,
but I never looked at it from a management perspective. It now makes sense to me to look at a football
team, or any other type of sports team, from a management point of view.
Coach Herman Boone, who is played by Denzel Washington, is a very influential person. He is a
perfect leader. While it cannot be found out for sure, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their opponents do not score against them often in the movie.
In the movie, Coach Boone is a master motivator. He does an excellent job of energizing his players,
sustaining the motivation, directing the motivation to the right players at the right time, and also
knowing when to stop motivating. The satisfaction progression hypothesis is also displayed in the
movie. Coach Boone knows that the small things, such as making the routine plays in the game, must
be done first before the main goal can be achieved, winning the game. He also has a high expectancy
of his team. He believes that the effort of his team will lead to performance and that the performance
will lead to results. He expects his team to practice just as hard as they play in the game. Julius
Campbell and Gary Bertier, the two main characters on the team, are also excellent motivators. They
get their teammates pumped up before and during the game.
As with most sports teams, the Titans have an autocratic leadership style. Coach Boone is the one and
only person who makes the decisions, he is the main man in charge. The style is productive, and the
team wins games. Although he has assistant coaches, such as Bill Yoast who is the defensive
coordinator, all the decisions must go through Coach Boone first. The democratic leadership style is
not applicable on a football team because that s why teams have coaches. The team does not make
group decisions. Coach Boone also uses Job Enlargement in Remember the

Essay On The Babylonians
The Babylonian civilization existed from around 3000 BC until 539 BC. The civilization has its roots
to Mesopotamia, a plain between the Tigris River and the Euphrates River, which is now in modern
day Iraq. The Babylonians are notoriously famous in their discoveries and inventions, most of which
we still use today. The civilization developed ideas such as astronomy, in which they created the Saros
Cycle, a cycle used to predict solar and lunar eclipses. The Babylonians were also masters in
architecture, constructing buildings like the Hanging Gardens using innovative techniques including
glass covered bricks and adornments of gold and bronze. However, despite many of these discoveries
being forgotten or lost, their advancements in mathematics have been kept for centuries, and have
brought modern ideas of angles, quadratic equations and even knowledge about the Pythagoras
theorem, before Pythagoras himself existed.
One modern day use of mathematics and quadratic equations, created by Babylonians, was the
collection of taxes. Mesopotamia was a very fertile land; therefore there were a high number of
farmers in the Babylonian Empire. Because of the high number of farmers, tax collectors and
mathematicians had to develop a new and more efficient way of calculating the ... Show more content

Equal Outcomes vs. Equal Opportunities Essay
Equal Outcomes vs. Equal Opportunities
Description: If you take all the change out of your pocket and look at the tail side of each coin you
will find written in Latin the motto of the United States of America; e pluribus
Unum . It states : out of many, one . This statement suggests that there are many different cultures that
comprise our country, and all these cultures are as one. The United
States political system has enacted numerous policies in order to ensure the equality promised by this
motto among all the people of this Nation. Due to the discrimination that is sadly, still a part of this
society, blacks, Indians (of both vernaculars), Hispanics, women, gays, and the disabled are sometimes
denied the opportunity to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Equal Outcome policies have made sure that all races, creeds, and peoples with disabilities are
proportionally represented in the work place. This has sent a message to the minority that it is possible
to for their group to succeed in a given workforce, thus giving them motivation to strive for the best
and eventually eliminating the need for an equal outcome policy. With the implementation of such
equal outcome policies, in time the workplace will become a equal opportunity for everyone. With the
rise of equal outcome/equal opportunity policies, many problems have risen, however, that present a
detriment to egalitarianism. Equal opportunity policies all too often go too far and focus more on
equal outcome policies such as quotas. Quotas are hiring based on the percentage of a certain minority
in a community. For instance, if there are two percent Asians, and ten percent Hispanics in an area,
then a company will hire two percent Asians, and ten percent Hispanics. This is unfavorable because if
a company has a position open and needs Asians to fulfill its quotas, they will pass over a more
qualified white male to hire the Asian and meet its requirement. Though equal outcomes strives to
eliminate discrimination, it forces employers to discriminate against a possibly more qualified
individual in order to meet a quota.

Dayglo Fluorescent Pigments Research Paper
Fluorescent pigments are a special type of pigment that have the unique ability to reemit a greater
frequency of light. Fluorescent pigments absorb the light frequencies that are emitted onto them, and
reemit them. Fluorescent pigments stand out to the human eye making them a great pigment for
advertising use, children s toys, safety protection wear, and many other commercial uses. Fluorescent
pigments were invented in the 1940 s by the Switzer brothers. Bob was a working man and Joe was an
amateur magician. Unfortunately, Bob was seriously injured and fractured his head on the job. He had
to spend months in the hospital recovering from his injuries. Since his head was fractured, he had to
avoid bright light. Since they were in the dark all of the time, both Bob and Joe Switzer developed a
curiosity about illuminating fluorescent pigments to enhance Joe s magic show. ( DayGlo Fluorescent
Pigments ).They realized that there were many fluorescing compounds in nature, and when combined
with shellac, they were successful ( DayGlo Fluorescent Pigments ). ... Show more content on

Shortly after the Switzer brothers started the process, the common way of developing the fluorescent
pigment was the bulk polycondensation method. (Color Technology for Plastics). This method uses
the reactions of formaldehyde, melamine, and toluene sulfonamide. The method further developed in
the 1970 s when scientists found a technique to suspend a droplet, which allowed a higher degree of
polymerization. At first this method was very expensive and brought out a poor color, but as
technology further developed, the price fell and is now accepted in today s markets. The other
component of these pigments is the dyestuffs that are used. To get a different color of the dye, color
technologists can vary degrees of either rhodamine or coumarin. (Color Technology for

Ways To Get Rid Of Labeling People
One of the main questions is why people are judged for being overweight. It s not right for people to
make fun of them and something needs to be done about this. People are made fun of every single day
for being fat or overweight. I think that these people that do this do it to make themselves feel good. It
makes them feel good because they are different than the people they are making fun of. They are
skinnier than the other person so that makes them feel better than the other person therefore they think
they are better than them. Although they are not as good as them, they are bullying them and being
extremely rude. We can try to change this but I do not think there is a way to completely get rid of
labeling people. To try to change this I believe that if we just bring awareness to labeling people then
people may start to realize that it is wrong. While brining awareness to it, to try to get rid of labeling,
the main focus should be showing that being different is ok. By showing this maybe kids will realize
someway how they are different from other kids and they will recognize that labeling is wrong.
Hopefully they will stop it themselves, apologize to anybody they have bullied and join in to try to
stop bulling. There are many ways to show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way is you can go defend the person yourself. If you go over you may be able to get the bully to
stop and leave. If you prefer not to go alone then grab an adult to go over with you and confront the

actions do not solve the problem then further actions need to solve this problem. By this I mean ISS
and OSS. The ISS and OSS are not permanent. Give them a few days until you can think of a solution
to get this kid to stop bullying people. This could lead to things such as therapy. Any way to stop
bullying is a good

The first chewing gum was called resin made from the sap of spruce trees. The New Englanders settled and found this chewing gum and want to make it more. In 1848, John Curtis made and sold the first chewing gum. They called it the State of Maple Pure Spruce Gum. Even though John Curtis invented it in 1848, scientists think North Europeans were chewing birch wood tar around 9,000 years ago! Even the Ancient Maya shewed a substance called chicle. Curtis built the first chewing gum factory in the 1850s. the factory stood in Portland, Maine. As it turns out resin was not very good to chew on because it became brittle after it was ... Throughout our lives we are constantly taking other people s opinions into consideration. We care more about what people think of us, rather than how we think of ourselves. In reality, the only opinion that matters is your own. Abortion has been legal since 1973. People have been arguing whether it should be legal or illegal ever since. Abortion should stay legalized for various reasons. A woman has rights, and these rights include what she gets to do with her body. The U.S. Supreme Court decided in favor of abortion rights during the case of Roe v. Wade on January 22, 1973. They stated that This right of privacy... is broad enough to encompass a woman s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. People argue that a baby is capable of feeling pain when it is killed. This is completely false. A developing fetus s brain starts to structure between the 7th and 8th months of gestation and during this time they start to perceive pain. This is far past the time when an abortion is carried out. Introducing new technology and tools into an organization can increase productivity, boost sales, and help you make better, quicker decisions however getting every employee adjust to the change in technology is often a challenge. Organization very constantly face the challenge of adapting themselves to the technology and it depends on its employees to overcome the change and employees need the stimulation to adapt to the change and this reminds me of a famous quote You can t build an adaptable organization without adaptable people and individuals change only when they have to, or when they want to (Gary Hamel). As per Gary Hamel individuals only change when they have to or when they want to and Motivation is a factor that can drive individuals to change or adapt to technology. Motivation is the key ingredient to bring about a change in the employees which can lead to the success of an organization. Organizations even though they have all the technical skills, will not be successful if they are not able to motivate their team to take up change. The manager or leader or the organization should have the skill to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Trichotillomania Onset Pregnancy Introduction: Trichotillomania is characterized by recurrent episodes of hair pulling behavior leading to noticeable loss of hair, increasing tension before hair pulling or while coping with the urge to pull out hair, taking pleasure or a sense of relief while pulling out hair, and social, occupational, and functional impairment1. Trichotillomania can involve any area in the body; however, the most common areas are the scalp, followed by the eyebrows and eyelashes in children and in adults2. The seriousness of the pulling behavior is perceived over time, and the disease exhibits a chronic course and it is resistant to therapy3. It has been reported that patients with trichotillomania often did not feel pain while pulling out hair, followed a particular pattern of hair pulling, and often chose strands with unusual appearance, and exhibit repetitive behavior such as engaging oral stimulation after hair pulling4 5. Some studies have suggested that trichotillomania had many common features with obsessive compulsive disorder4 5.Here we discuss a patient with trichotillomania onset pregnanacy case. Measuring Fair Value Accounting Standards Fair Value accounting is a measurement application to value assets and liabilities based on current transactions among buyers and sellers in the market. In other words, the price market participants pay or receive in an orderly transaction at a certain date. There are different techniques for measuring fair values depending on asset and market activity. It includes market approach, cost approach, and income approach. Financial Accounting standards (FAS 157) defines fair value as the price that would be received to sell an asset or paid to transfer a liability in an orderly transaction between market participants at the measurement date (FASB, 2006). This measurement is based on a cost principal that states to record assets/liabilities at the acquisition value. In this approach, assets or liabilities are adjusted to its net realizable value in a systematic manner. For example, depreciation of fixed assets, amortization of intangible assets, and depletion of natural resources. These rational and systematics approaches to adjust assets value to bring these instruments to its carrying value, deviating from the recorded historical cost. Under both measurement approaches, there could be significant differences in reporting, measuring, adjusting, and disclosing values of assets and liabilities. GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and IFRS (Internal financial Reporting Standards) mostly apply fair value concepts to financial assets and liabilities up to certain extent. Corrosion Of Mild Steel And Its Effect On The Natural State Mild steel is an alloy of iron and 0.2 % carbon widely used in construction, as it is readily available, malleable and relatively inexpensive. One use of mild steel is on the hulls of seafaring ships. However, corrosion due to the salt water environment and pounding waves is a major problem with the use of steel. Metallic corrosion is estimated to amount to 4% of a developed country s GDP per year. Therefore corrosion of mild steel and its prevention are major concerns. Metallic corrosion occurs in the presence of oxygen and water. It is the electrochemical degradation of metals to their natural state. The most negative E0 values are placed at the top and the most positive are placed at the bottom (see appendix 1.4). The closer to the top of the series a metal is (the more negative it is), the more likely the metal is to lose electrons and oxidise. This works in the reverse as well, the more positive the E0 value, the more the metal will reduce. When metals are paired together, the metal with the higher oxidising strength (lower on the table) will be reduced (Clark, 2013). The electrochemical series is used in cathodic protection to determine a more reactive metal which can be sacrificed to protect a pre existing metal. Another way of determining the reducing and oxidising agent in a redox reaction is to examine the change in oxidation numbers. An oxidation number represents the total amount of electrons that an atom loses or gains to form a chemical bond. Oxidation numbers are assigned according to a set of rules and depend on the electronegativity of the element. In redox reactions the oxidation number of an oxidant will decrease. This is because the element is being reduced, receiving negatively charged electrons. The oxidation number of a reductant will increase because the substance has more positively charged protons than negatively charged electrons. The corrosion of iron is an example of a redox reaction where change in oxidation numbers and the electrochemical series can be used to determine reduction and oxidation. Iron ... In our case our in the book refers to Britain and the United States most of us have failed to notice a quite rapid turning up of the heat. Americans, Garland observes, now seem accustomed to living in a country that executes an average of more than two people per week and has a prison population of more than 2 million. Britons, with extraordinarily little protest, have adjusted to living with an Orwellian level of closed circuit TV surveillance and a prison population whose growth rate, if not its actual number, is beginning to rival that of the US. Such a state of affairs, he notes, only 30 years ago would have seemed shocking, even to the best informed and most up to date observer. Indeed, he insists, the trajectory of British and American crime control over the past three decades has been almost exactly the contrary of that which was anticipated as recently as 1970 . Sacrament of Reconciliation Religion CPT: Sacrament of Reconciliation The Sacrament of Reconciliation is when we receive mercy and forgiveness for the sins we commit against God and the people around us. It is a frequently practiced sacrament in the Catholic community often helping many people around us release the guilt inside us and seek help to solve our problems. The Sacrament of Reconciliation has many symbols involved within and has many benefits to it, allowing us to bond and connect with God. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also known as the Sacrament of Penance or Confession. It shows that God is forgiving and loving, and that every time we confess our sins, we reconcile with God. Many Catholics participate in this Sacrament because after they confess, they experience great feelings such as relief, peace, freedom, and love. Public sins are confessed within a group, publicly. However, private sins are confessed during private confessions in which the sinner is anonymous to the priest and they would confess individually. There are five main symbols included in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The first symbol is a single key or a pair of keys where they are normally crisscrossed to form To 2 an X . This symbol came from the time where Jesus talked to Peter and said, I will give you the keys to the kingdom of Heaven. During the time around 1850, tensions were rising on the issue of slavery between the North and the South. New states were being admitted to the United States, but the decisions to make them a free state or a slave state were what really mattered. As an example, California was admitted to the Union as a free state, and this angered the south very much because slavery was a very important factor to the South s economy. The Compromise of 1850 was developed to help soothe the tensions on each side. This Compromise had several provisions: California was admitted to the Union as a free state; the territories of New Mexico and Utah were created without restrictions of slavery; the slave trade was abolished in Washington, D.C.; Congress passed a stricter fugitive slave law. This compromise showed just how important slavery was to each side, and it gives us a good idea of why it could be important as one of their goals during the Civil War. With slavery in mind, it brought about ideas of succession to the South. Because the South was scared of Lincoln abolishing slavery, they thought it would be a wise decision to secede from the Union. In fact, Lincoln had no plans of abolishing slavery, but stated that it should not spread to the territories. The South basically misunderstood and decided to secede anyway. The first Opium War occurred from 1839 to 1832 and was fought between China and Britain. In the 17th and 18th centuries, European demand for Chinese goods (particularly silk, porcelain, and tea) created a trade deficit between Great Britain and Qing Imperial China. In 1839, China s Emperor had enough of British drug smuggling and suspended all British trade with China, beginning the first Opium War. In 1842, the Qing Dynasty was forced to sign the Treaty of Nanking, which granted protection and immunity to Britain, and opened five treaty ports to foreign suppliers, among other things. The second Opium War, also referred to as the Anglo French War in China, occurred from 1856 to 1860, and was fought by Britain and France against China. The failure of the Treaty of Nanking to satisfy British goals of enhanced trade and diplomatic relations led to the second war. In both opium wars, the foreign powers were victorious and obtained commercial advantages and legal and territorial concessions in China. The wars began an era of unequal treaties on Qing sovereignty that helped weaken the dynasty and eventually lead to the collapse in favor of republican China. The opium wars are significant because they humiliated the Chinese, who still considered themselves a great and powerful empire. The wars were also a clear example in showing the world that China could be pushed around by distant foreign powers. Contemporary Chinese still feel the need to prove themselves on the world stage because of this. Following the Opium Wars and the Treaty of Nanking, the Qing dynasty struggled to maintain control and legitimacy. Report On Tesco s Impairment Question 11 Report on Tesco s Impairments Executive Summary Tesco reported a write down of £7bn in one off charges in the 2014 financial results, which is the first set of the whole year financial results by the new chief executive Dave Lewis and this practice is called kitchen sinking. This report gives explanation of its definition, the reason why Tesco adopted this approach and how it tested impairment under the accounting standard (IAS). Introduction Tesco is one of the biggest retailer in UK which provides food and non food products. However, a £4.7 billion property impairment results to a loss of £6.4 billion. Tesco reported a massive property write down of £7bn in the 2014 financial results of one off items, which contains restructuring costs, goodwill, impairments and resolution of the commercial income recognition scandal in September 2014 (John Stokdyk 2015). This is the first set of whole year financial results by the new chief executive Dave Lewis and it gives the corporate and its investors a kitchen sinking. The practice, kitchen sinking, is a term used when a recently nominated chief executive announce all the bad news at once that found in the company and report it in an early financial results announcement to make any succeeding results look more impressive. The reason is to keep the company away from negative accounting issues and to assure investors realise who is to blame. Main Findings The Tesco s accounting team under Dave Lewis put every write off, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film puts great emphasis on liberal war journalist George Beckwith (David Janssen). Beckwith originally doubts America s involvement in the war, but after spending time with the Green Berets, his attitude changes significantly. Now that we have covered lighting, let s take a look at color in these two films. The use of color in The Green Berets creates a mood for the audience. The Green Berets were labeled the liberators from oppression, and the film creates an environment that is colored in green to express that slogan. There are many characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and the musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of Caroline No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response relationship. The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this exchange occurred a couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made the piece seem melancholic and mysterious and sets the mood for the rest of the song. The quality of the voice was interesting because it was unlike most songs of The Beach Boys I have heard of before. Throughout the song, The Beach Boys have a slow and relaxing tempo that does not shift as the piece progresses. For the most part, the tempo remains steady and slow. This steady tempo is accompanied by lyrics that relate to the overall melancholic mood of the song. The song talks about a girl named Caroline that used to be a ... • 39. Second Wave Of Feminism Feminism is the fight for equality among the sexes. It can be dated back to the mid 19th century with women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. The first wave feminist procured the right to vote for American women. The following second and third waves built upon what the founding feminists created. The second wave of feminism was set off by the disenchantment women across America were experiencing. This disenchantment was caused by the nuclear family, and the roles that the women in the 1950s were thrust into. The second wave is said to have lasted from the 1960s 1980s. Sometime after the 1980s, most likely the early to mid 1990s, third wave feminists began to rear their heads. The third wave build on the advancements made by the first and second waves. There has been controversy regarding the thought that the third wave is actually just an extension of the second. This paper will explore the second and third waves of feminism as well as their relationship between themselves. The second wave of feminism is said to have been born in 1963 with the publication of the Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan. Friedan s ground breaking novel took an introspective look into the life of a woman in the 1950s. It questioned all of the roles that women were expected to portray. The 1950s woman was supposed to be a wife first, a mother second, and a somewhere much further down the list. Friedan made this women question if they were really okay with living in the margins. The second wave took what the first wave had done and ran with it. They were fighting for equality among sexes, reproductive rights for women, women s role in the work place, and domestic violence, and they established the crisis surrounding rape in America. There were many key events that occurred during the second wave of feminism. In 1960 the Pill was approved by the FDA. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy established the President s Commission on the Status of Women. He appointed Eleanor Roosevelt the chair of the commission. JFK also signed into law the Equal Pay Act of 1963. He does an excellent job of energizing his players, sustaining the motivation, directing the motivation to the right players at the right time, and also knowing when to stop motivating. The satisfaction progression hypothesis is also displayed in the movie. Coach Boone knows that the small things, such as making the routine plays in the game, must be done first before the main goal can be achieved, winning the game. He also has a high expectancy of his team. He believes that the effort of his team will lead to performance and that the performance will lead to results. He expects his team to practice just as hard as they play in the game. Julius Campbell and Gary Bertier, the two main characters on the team, are also excellent motivators. They get their teammates pumped up before and during the game. As with most sports teams, the Titans have an autocratic leadership style. Coach Boone is the one and only person who makes the decisions, he is the main man in charge. The style is productive, and the team wins games. Although he has assistant coaches, such as Bill Yoast who is the defensive coordinator, all the decisions must go through Coach Boone first. The democratic leadership style is not applicable on a football team because that s why teams have coaches. The team does not make group decisions. • 48. Essay On The Babylonians The Babylonian civilization existed from around 3000 BC until 539 BC. The civilization has its roots to Mesopotamia, a plain between the Tigris River and the Euphrates River, which is now in modern day Iraq. The Babylonians are notoriously famous in their discoveries and inventions, most of which we still use today. The civilization developed ideas such as astronomy, in which they created the Saros Cycle, a cycle used to predict solar and lunar eclipses. The Babylonians were also masters in architecture, constructing buildings like the Hanging Gardens using innovative techniques including glass covered bricks and adornments of gold and bronze. However, despite many of these discoveries being forgotten or lost, their advancements in mathematics have been kept for centuries, and have brought modern ideas of angles, quadratic equations and even knowledge about the Pythagoras theorem, before Pythagoras himself existed. One modern day use of mathematics and quadratic equations, created by Babylonians, was the collection of taxes. Mesopotamia was a very fertile land; therefore there were a high number of farmers in the Babylonian Empire. Because of the high number of farmers, tax collectors and mathematicians had to develop a new and more efficient way of calculating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the fact that many of their discoveries have been lost through time, it can be concluded that the Babylonian Empire was very advanced for its time and despite ending with a societal collapse, it is still possible to find everyday things without knowing they possess century old roots connecting to the ancient Babylonian civilization. • 49. Equal Outcomes vs. Equal Opportunities Essay Equal Outcomes vs. Equal Opportunities Description: If you take all the change out of your pocket and look at the tail side of each coin you will find written in Latin the motto of the United States of America; e pluribus Unum . It states : out of many, one . This statement suggests that there are many different cultures that comprise our country, and all these cultures are as one. The United States political system has enacted numerous policies in order to ensure the equality promised by this motto among all the people of this Nation. Due to the discrimination that is sadly, still a part of this society, blacks, Indians (of both vernaculars), Hispanics, women, gays, and the disabled are sometimes denied the opportunity to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Equal Outcome policies have made sure that all races, creeds, and peoples with disabilities are proportionally represented in the work place. This has sent a message to the minority that it is possible to for their group to succeed in a given workforce, thus giving them motivation to strive for the best and eventually eliminating the need for an equal outcome policy. With the implementation of such equal outcome policies, in time the workplace will become a equal opportunity for everyone. With the rise of equal outcome/equal opportunity policies, many problems have risen, however, that present a detriment to egalitarianism. Equal opportunity policies all too often go too far and focus more on equal outcome policies such as quotas. Quotas are hiring based on the percentage of a certain minority in a community. For instance, if there are two percent Asians, and ten percent Hispanics in an area, then a company will hire two percent Asians, and ten percent Hispanics. This is unfavorable because if a company has a position open and needs Asians to fulfill its quotas, they will pass over a more qualified white male to hire the Asian and meet its requirement. Though equal outcomes strives to eliminate discrimination, it forces employers to discriminate against a possibly more qualified individual in order to meet a quota. • 50. Dayglo Fluorescent Pigments Research Paper Fluorescent pigments are a special type of pigment that have the unique ability to reemit a greater frequency of light. Fluorescent pigments absorb the light frequencies that are emitted onto them, and reemit them. Fluorescent pigments stand out to the human eye making them a great pigment for advertising use, children s toys, safety protection wear, and many other commercial uses. Fluorescent pigments were invented in the 1940 s by the Switzer brothers. Bob was a working man and Joe was an amateur magician. Unfortunately, Bob was seriously injured and fractured his head on the job. He had to spend months in the hospital recovering from his injuries. Since his head was fractured, he had to avoid bright light. Since they were in the dark all of the time, both Bob and Joe Switzer developed a curiosity about illuminating fluorescent pigments to enhance Joe s magic show. ( DayGlo Fluorescent Pigments ).They realized that there were many fluorescing compounds in nature, and when combined with shellac, they were successful ( DayGlo Fluorescent Pigments ). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shortly after the Switzer brothers started the process, the common way of developing the fluorescent pigment was the bulk polycondensation method. (Color Technology for Plastics). This method uses the reactions of formaldehyde, melamine, and toluene sulfonamide. The method further developed in the 1970 s when scientists found a technique to suspend a droplet, which allowed a higher degree of polymerization. At first this method was very expensive and brought out a poor color, but as technology further developed, the price fell and is now accepted in today s markets. The other component of these pigments is the dyestuffs that are used. To get a different color of the dye, color technologists can vary degrees of either rhodamine or coumarin. • 51. Ways To Get Rid Of Labeling People One of the main questions is why people are judged for being overweight. It s not right for people to make fun of them and something needs to be done about this. People are made fun of every single day for being fat or overweight. I think that these people that do this do it to make themselves feel good. It makes them feel good because they are different than the people they are making fun of. They are skinnier than the other person so that makes them feel better than the other person therefore they think they are better than them. Although they are not as good as them, they are bullying them and being extremely rude. We can try to change this but I do not think there is a way to completely get rid of labeling people. To try to change this I believe that if we just bring awareness to labeling people then people may start to realize that it is wrong. While brining awareness to it, to try to get rid of labeling, the main focus should be showing that being different is ok. By showing this maybe kids will realize someway how they are different from other kids and they will recognize that labeling is wrong. Hopefully they will stop it themselves, apologize to anybody they have bullied and join in to try to stop bulling. There are many ways to show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One way is you can go defend the person yourself. If you go over you may be able to get the bully to stop and leave. If you prefer not to go alone then grab an adult to go over with you and confront the bully. By doing this the adult can make disciplinary actions to solve this problem. If the disciplinary actions do not solve the problem then further actions need to solve this problem. By this I mean ISS and OSS. The ISS and OSS are not permanent. Give them a few days until you can think of a solution to get this kid to stop bullying people. This could lead to things such as therapy. Any way to stop bullying is a good ...
