Annual program review NFDN ERO vs Plan Nepal 2012Uttam Siwakoti
The project aimed to develop skills and capacities of persons with disabilities through various activities in Dhading district from July 2012 to December 2012. Key achievements included training 250 community organizations on the UN convention and local stakeholders on disability management, promoting inclusive education in 240 schools, and developing the first district level strategic plan for persons with intellectual disabilities in Nepal. Challenges faced included slower than expected networking with non-disability organizations and limited coordination with government agencies.
This document is the Food and Beverage Materials Act, 2042 of Nepal. Some key points:
- It establishes provisions regarding food and beverage materials in Nepal for public convenience and economic benefit.
- It classifies beverage materials into categories like solid and non-solid, and by importance like highly important, importantly valuable, and general.
- It gives the sole authority to conduct beverage work to the Government of Nepal, which can grant permits to other individuals or entities to carry out such work.
- It outlines the process and requirements for obtaining permits to conduct exploration or excavation work from the Department of Water and Earth.
The annual review meeting of the National Disability Network noted progress and challenges over the past year. Key accomplishments included:
- Increased coordination between disability-related government bodies and stakeholders at the district level.
- Establishment of district coordination committees in most districts to facilitate policy implementation and resource mobilization.
- Enhanced representation of persons with disabilities in peace processes and disaster management planning through information sharing.
However, some challenges remained such as limited capacity of district-level organizations and lack of continuity due to frequent transfers of district officials. Recommendations included further strengthening local networks and institutionalizing gains from coordination efforts.
The proposed Cooperatives Act 2072 is aimed at modernizing and updating the existing Cooperatives Act 2048 to meet current needs. Some provisions in the draft bill have been debated, including those relating to board tenure, investment restrictions, and mandatory share capital requirements. While certain provisions like increasing women's participation are welcomed, others may hinder the cooperative movement by over-regulating aspects like name changes, mergers, and profit distribution in a way that goes against global cooperative principles. The bill needs to balance oversight with allowing cooperatives flexibility to serve members according to local contexts.
The document discusses disaster management in Nepal and outlines several strategies in the interim and upcoming periodic plans. Key points include:
1) Focusing on disaster risk reduction through environmentally friendly infrastructure development and preparedness planning.
2) Improving institutional capacity, training personnel, and coordination between government, non-government and private sectors for relief and recovery efforts.
3) Mainstreaming environmental and climate change adaptation considerations across development programs and policies to enhance resilience.

The article discusses population growth and its impacts. It mentions that a study of around 800 rural women in Bangladesh found that economic factors are a key reason for declining birth rates and smaller family sizes in developing countries. The study showed that poor economic conditions, malnutrition and increasing mortality rates have continuously reduced population growth in Bangladesh. It states that declines in fertility, rising mortality rates and economic hardships are steadily lowering the population growth rate. The conclusion is that strong economic factors are primarily responsible for controlling population growth. Some population experts have proposed additional approaches for population control besides women's education and free access to contraception, which have not significantly reduced population growth over decades.

Guidelines for Transforming Traditional Village into Eco-VillageWOREC Nepal
These guidelines provide a framework for transforming traditional villages into eco-villages in Nepal. The concept was developed based on WORE Nepal's previous work promoting organic farming systems with support from Luxembourg. The guidelines aim to improve livelihood security, adapt to climate change and environmental challenges, and empower local communities through community organizations and sustainable agriculture practices. The transformation process is proposed to take place over 3 years through various steps including community discussions, social mapping, group formation, training in organic farming, infrastructure development, and monitoring of indicators. The goal is to balance human rights, food security, and environmental sustainability at the local level through participatory decision making.
1. The document discusses different perspectives on the meaning of freedom from various religions and philosophies. It states that freedom essentially means not being under the subjugation of another person.
2. However, some atheist groups have interpreted freedom to mean liberation from religion. This has led to increasing secularism and rejection of the concept of God in some parts of the world.
3. The document argues that the root cause of such misinterpretations is the corruption and abuse of power that had crept into religious institutions like churches in Europe in the medieval times.

This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.

A Guide to AI for Smarter Nonprofits - Dr. Cori Faklaris, UNC CharlotteCori Faklaris
Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.
