2. The American Revolutionary War Between America And Britain
A guerrilla is any radical who utilizes a weapon of any kind and does the real battling for the
insurrection. They may direct demonstrations of dread, guerrilla fighting, criminal exercises, or
customary operations. They are regularly mixed up for the development or insurrection itself;
however they are only the troopers of the development or revolt. Guerrillas fluctuate broadly in size,
make‑up, strategies, and routines starting with one insurrection then onto the next. They even
fluctuate broadly inside of an uprising, particularly in each of the three periods of a rebellion.
The American Revolutionary Waroccurred from April 19, 1775 and ended on September 3, 1783.
This war was an aftereffect of governmental issues; Americans had imagined that the Stamp Act of
1765 had been illegal. Then again, the British asserted that they had the privilege to impose the
individuals with taxes. What numerous individuals believe is that it had been a war in the middle
of America and Britain. Despite the fact that this is incompletely genuine, numerous individuals
don t know or perceive the way that the war had developed and France, the Netherlands and Spain
had taken America s side and joined the war.
At an opportune time the United States had chosen to utilize guerilla or unpredictable fighting.
Americans had favorable position as in British were battling on new domain and had no local
source of manpower or food. By 1783 a great many individuals on

3. Infrastructure Of Infrastructure And Infrastructure
Infrastructure
We are constantly surrounded by infrastructure assets. Infrastructure consists of all the assets that
countries require to enable its daily operations and orderly functions. Transportation, energy,
communications and water, are some of the infrastructure assets that serve as the backbone to our
society. While traveling this summer with my family, I realized just how far behind the U.S. is
compared to other parts of the world when it is considered one of the most advanced countries in
the world. I thought to myself... Why hasn t the U.S. invested in such projects? China spends 7%
of its GDP on infrastructure and India spends 5%. The U.S. spends just over 3%. As a result, U.S.
infrastructure now ranks 14th globally according to the World Economic Forum s infrastructure
index.
In the current economic environment where interest rates are low and unemployment remains
elevated, a logical solution to stimulate growth would be to build, modernize, or replace our
infrastructure. Every 4 years, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) releases a Report
Card for America s Infrastructure that represents the condition and performance of the nation s
infrastructure. In 2013, the United States infrastructure grade was a D+. Although we recognize
the report is a little self serving, the statistics behind their research is compelling. According to the
report: the average age of the 84,000 dams in the country is 52 years old, one in nine of the nation s
bridges are rated

of these stereotypes on the life of Egyptians in particular in society. A fair inspection will be
conducted on this example of stereotypes through clarification examples and research consequences
from researches conducted from reliable sources. The real association between Egyptians
stereotypes and propaganda discussed in this paper shall magnify the suggestion of stereotypes and
propaganda in common.
It seems essential for this paper to start with some clarification of the circumstances related with
propaganda. Propaganda can be thought of as a foster parent for stereotypes. Propaganda is
recognized to be the planned manipulation of public opinion through concealed messages in
advertisements and other media functions. Thus, propaganda uses numerous techniques to be able
to consign theses hidden messages to the public and influence their view. Fear, brainwashing, name

I m not much of a crier. I think I cried at Marley and Me, but if you have a dog and didn t cry at
that film then questions certainly need to be asked.
Men will aim to avoid falling under the category of criers . It will take away part of their
masculinity and feel like a sign of weakness.
One thing in life though, will reduce many men (including myself) to tears... and that s football. It
has done so on several occasions in the past and will do for years to come in the future.
95% of the time these are tears of misery, heartache, despondency, regret, embarrassment,
dejection, anger, rage, sorrow, misery, despair, or in my case as a QPR fan, all of the above.
But what doesn t make sense to many people is why, why, why, despite the feelings of crippling
depression football leaves us with, do we keep going back?
And the reason for this is that 5%. Every football fan will understand what I mean when I say there

Thought Provoking Illustrations in The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury Ray Bradbury first

Each of the Illustrations carries with it a moral standpoint, all of which are important to Bradbury.
The Veldmakes a point that is still highly relevant today Although technology is important, it is not
so important that it should get in the way of family life. It is an incredible piece of foresight by
the author, as this is possibly the greatest problem that we face socially today. Nearly 75% of
households are connected to the Internet, with around 80% possessing computers. This is the root
of many problems, especially obesity, as the Internet and computer games are the primary
contributors to unhealthy sedentary lifestyles. Bradbury exaggerates the effects that the technology
has for impact, with the parents dying as a result of relying so much on their house s technological
equipment, and not bothering to communicate with other human beings. In Kaleidoscope, Bradbury
explores not only the concept of death, but also his belief that we must make the most of our lives
when we have the chance, because at the end, the only things we are left with are our memories.
He sets it in open space to illustrate this nothingness and loneliness, but the point that he makes is
just as relevant here on Earth. Carpe diem is shown in

it was with the girl I was planning on marrying. And she was my first wife. I believe that was
typical of my peers. My friends and classmates and chums were all pretty much the same. It was
the typical Midwestern, middle class life. Very different than life today ( Hugh Hefner Discusses

society of Gilead. At the start of the novel Offred predominantly is passive to her oppression but
there is a hint of wanting to rebel against it., A chair, a table, a lamp. Above, on the white ceiling,
a relief ornament in the shape of a wreath, and in the centre of it a blank space, plastered over it,

She knows that the society she lives in is wrong, if she was completely passive towards her
oppression then she wouldn t appreciate the small aspects of freedom she has. Offred s narrative
is simplistic through the use of asyndetic listing, she later goes on to say thinking can hurt your
chances, and I intend to last . This shows that Offred has determination to live through the
society of Gilead. The use of asyndetic listing implies endlessness as there is no and to finalise
it, offred uses syndetic listing and finalises her thoughts which could suggest that her oppression
is final and she won t tolerate it anymore. On the other hand her narrative is simplistic with could
also suggest that this could be because she doesn t want to think too much about her past life, as
it could lead to her going insane due to how much she s been brainwashed. Ofred hasn t been
brainwashed by choice, so technically she isn t passive towards her oppression. This could be
Atwood imputing her own opinions of society, that women are oppressed to the point where they

14. The Portrayal Analysis Of John Conroy s Belfast Diary
Conroy s analysis of Northern Ireland is, in the simplest of terms, refreshing. Convoy s attention
to detail and analysis when describing Jimmy Barr s dealing with the Housing Executive s, when
discussing the hunger strikes, and when discussing the plight of those who live in the Divis Flats
all support the notion that Conroy has an understanding of Northern Ireland, even though he s an
outsider. John Conroy s Belfast Diary is an example of how an outsider can provide a reliable
analysis into the communal violence that has consumed Northern Ireland. I believe that Conroy s
outsider perspective, combined with his choice to immerse himself into the culture of Belfast
allowed him to write a story that leaves out major biases, a story that... Show more content on

His immersion into the culture of Northern Ireland made him less of an outsider in terms of
ability to gain information, but he still could use his outsider perspective in analyzing what he
obtained. Conroy s choice to live in the ghetto was just the beginning of what made him
equipped to tell the story of Ireland. Equally important to immersing oneself in Belfast is having
the ability to not take sides, or favor one group or ideology or person over the other, a challenge
that Conroy undertook. Throughout Belfast Diary, Conroy works through dense and complex
information regarding the various police forces, paramilitaries, and British military groups that
reside in the North with the Catholics and Protestants. While reading Conroy s pages long
analysis of the variety of groups, it becomes clear that these groups within Northern Ireland cannot
be deemed good or bad . Labeling a group with such complexities would be falling into the trap of
being an ill equipped outsider. Rather, Conroy implies that one needs to develop an understanding
that each group serves a purpose for the community that it s serving. Conroy explains that each
group benefits the community they re serving almost equally as much as it is disadvantaged by the
group. In other words, Conroy explains that the relationship is give and take, it s not something that

16. Hercules As A Youthful Hercules
Standing eight feet tall in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is a marble statue known as a youthful
Hercules. Sculpted during the Early Imperial period, with several restorations made in the 17th
century, this Roman masterpiece dominates the room with its godlike essence. Chiseled with great
detail, Hercules is holding a skinned lion in his left hand while his right hand is gripping a club
behind his back. The statue stands with confidence and empowerment, capturing the moment right
after Hercules skinned the Nemean beast, transporting the viewer directly to the scene, while at the
same time also demonstrating Hercules emotional state. Upon examining the amalgam of Hercules
qualities such as his physical characteristics, pose, and expression, the sculptureleaves the viewer
with the impression that Hercules is the epitome of the ideal man.
Originally inspired by Greek Myth, Hercules was sent on an impossible task to kill a Nemean Lion.
After figuring out his bat was useless, he then proceeded to strangle the lion to death with his bare
hands, and then skinning the dead beast. In the sculpture, Hercules weight is shifted towards the
tree trunk which Romans used to support their sculptures, and the club swings behind his right arm.
By having the club swing behind him, it emphasizes Hercules masculinity by highlighting the fact
that Hercules, with his bare hands, was able to defy the seemingly impossible and kill the beast all
on his own without help from weaponry.

childhood ALL occurs rapidly with great intensity. Normally, our bone marrow functions to

For example, sometimes the placebo effect can impact the speed at which an individual s cancer
is accelerating. The placebo effect can alter the way an individual thinks by making them believe
that a treatment is actually a drug. However, instead, the pill actually given to them is a sugar pill
or a pill that is unrelated to their treatment. Therefore, the placebo effect is often effective because
the individual blindly believes that this new drug will work and cure them.[6] According to the

other hand, the placebo effect can also have a negative impact by blindly convincing the individual
that the pill consumed will result in undesirable side effects: nausea, headaches, anxiety, etc. In
fact, scientific evidence suggests that the placebo effect effectiveness is partly due to the release

aspects that are similar. To get a clear aspect of what both texts look at, Hemingway writes about
a short story that is based on the impacts of World War I on soldiers. The short story mainly
focuses on how these particular soldiers experienced the traumatic event of having to participate in
the war which was both psychologically and physically harmful to them. In Ambush O Brien

The theme is similar to the one presented by Hemmingway because of the notion or concept used
to develop it. War is a common factor in both texts, seeing that in the text by Hemmingway, war

Brien s regret is from throwing the grenade and having to kill all those people he killed. The
regret is from killing the soldiers and all he wished for was that the soldiers had just walked
away past him, that way he wouldn t have had to throw the grenade. In developing the theme, O
Brien uses visions to show the regret and also to contemplate on what would have happened if
things were to happen differently. The two stories were both similar in their story line which was
about war. However, the main themes in both stories differ. While one explores World War 1 and

19. The Prince Lessons
The Prince written by NiccolГІ Machiavelli was first published during the Italian Renaissance in
1532. The book teaches politicians how to be powerful and yet viewed positively among the
people. Machiavelli discussed actions of past rulers of Europe and whether or not their actions
were correct. He analyzed how these men seized, retained and lost political power as well as
land. The book has lasted throughout the ages and is referred to as a classic by many. The reason
behind this is that its messages are applicable to all forms of government even in present day.
However this was not what Machiavelli intended when he first started writing the book. If read

A key lesson is in chapter III when the reader learns how to retain land in a mixed principality.
There are two different types of rulers that Machiavelli talked about. The first one he talked
about was King Louis XII of France. He lectured that King Louis occupied Milan (an Italian
state) and just as quickly lost it (Machiavelli, 9). The author said that he seized it correctly but did
not do anything to retain the land he had captured. Machiavelli then introduces his ideas about
retaining land and compares them to the Romans in that same chapter. He then said the Romans
captured and held massive amounts of surrounding area as they followed the correct actions.
Three main actions are taught in chapter three. The first action is to make a ruler s land/country
superior and the defender of your neighboring lands/countries. The second is to not alter a newly
seized territories s way of life and to go and live there. These will both result in the people not
viewing the prince as a foreigner therefore having a less chance of rebellion. Lastly keep out and
limit foreigners in the prince s seized land. This will stop the prince from having anyone that gains

role they play in deepening world hunger.
In Half of All US Food Produce is Thrown Away, New Research Suggests , author Suzanne

worth of fruits and vegetables are thrown out by sellers and consumers every year. Other fruits and
vegetables not deemed perfect are left to rot in fields and warehouses even though their blemishes

Personal life:
Karen Horney was born on September 16, 1885 (as Karen Danielson) in a village near Hamburg,
Germany. She felt devoid of love from her parents. Her father preferred her brother Berndt over
her. She was envious of her brother because of beauty and attention as a boy. She was smarter but
she didn t get attention by any means. This led to Horney s depression which would affect the rest
of her life. In 1906, Horney entered medical school. There, she met Oscar Horney and married in
1909. She remained in search of love throughout life and attributed it to her childhood. Oskar and

then they have been widely read and cited, and Horney is now recognized as the first great

between the genders.
Theory of neurosis:
Karen Horney developed one of the best known theories of neurosis. Neurosis is a psychic
disturbance brought by fears and defenses against these fears, and by attempts to find
compromise solutions for conflicting tendencies She believed that neurosis resulted from basic
anxiety caused by interpersonal relationships. She defined basic anxiety as the pervasive feeling
of loneliness and helplessness . Horney (1945) suggests that basic anxiety could result from
inconsistencies in parenting, over permissive or extremely strict parenting styles, a lack of
respect for the needs of the child, too little or too much responsibility, lack of reliable warmth and
a lack of a social life. These were all very damaging to a child and promoted the development of
neurosis. Horney s version of psychoanalysis looks at neurosis as a set of defenses against basic
anxiety. In childhood, we try to protect ourselves against basic anxiety in four ways:
1. Being submissive
2. Gaining affection
3. Attaining power
4. Withdrawing.
The 10 neurotic needs as described by Horney are given

The speaker not only understand the role of love in the world, but also understands the nature of
love to be self sacrificing and pure. She openly rejects a love founded outside of love and
requests that love be primarily for the sake of love itself. This idea is expressed in detail in
Sonnet XIV. Many people desire for love to be defined by aspects regarding their character or a
part of who they are on the inside. However, the speaker rejects this idea and desires for
something deeper in her own relationships and love life. The speaker requests that she not be
loved by her appearance and also not by her internal qualities. Ultimately, the speaker
understands the brevity of one s appearance and even personality as she addresses her lover to
say for these things in themselves, Behold, may, Be changed or change for thee (95). The beauty

over time and will leave the person who originally embarked on that relationship disappointed
because the reason they felt love has changed or dissolved. However, the speaker s solution to this
dilemma is to love only except for love s sake only (95). By loving for the purpose of love itself, a

Santa Ana vs Brush Fire
The essay The Santa Ana by Joan Didion and Brush Fire by Linda Thomas are written very
differently about similar topics. On one hand we have the ominous, eerie and unexplainable feels of
the power of the winds by Didion and on the other hand, we have the optimistic and positivity of the
winds from Thomas. Both authors being native Californians have been writing many published
pieces of literature for years. Didion s purpose is to impress upon readers the idea that the wind
themselves change the way people act and react. She creates a dramatic tone in order to convey to
her readers that the winds have a mechanistic effect on people. Thomas s purpose points towards the

Both authors succeeded at doing just that. Their use of terse and compound sentences to express
complicated and simple subjects creates a captivating syntax. In Thomas s piece, she uses many
different aspects to come to a conclusion of how positive these winds can be. She talks about the
beauty of the chaparral foliage to the winds, then moves on to the destruction caused by them and
then talks about watching the fire flick down the hillside with her friendly neighbors. Structured
this way the article, shows that even something as demonic as these winds have beauty. In contrast,
Didion wants to convey a message about the absolute darkness of the winds. Therefore, Didion
starts off with the uneasiness of the people and how they can feel it coming. She then uses about
seven scientific facts to explain the cynical effects of the winds and then move on to a dreadful
fourteen days. Structured this way, Didion focused on just the negatives of the winds, conveying her

Harrisons parents. Diana was the general of the government that took Harrison away from his
parents on April, 2081. George, Harrison s father was a very intelligent person and due to that he

Inequality is shown when Diana comes into the studio with a double barreled ten gauge shotgun

27. Language And Speech Processing Throughout Modern Humans Essay
The ability of speech and language processing has always been a defining factor in what makes
humans unique, especially from their closest living relative primates. This paper will analyze the
differences in modern human brain structure and the common chimpanzee brain structure (pan
troglodytes) in regards to the language and speech function. Language and speech processing in
modern humans will focus on two parts of the cerebral cortex: Broca s area and Wernicke s area,
which is responsible for generating speech and language and receiving speech and language
respectively. Broca s area will be analyzed by the two parts it is made up of: Brodmann area 44,
associated mainly with phonological tasks and Brodmann area 45, associated mainly with semantic
processing. Wernicke s area receives and interprets speech and language and is shown to be
connected to Broca s area by a neuronal tract known as the arcuate fasciculus. The structure of the
common chimpanzee brainis shown to have homologous structures to Broca s and Wernicke s area
in modern humans, but is significantly smaller, and is unable to perform the same developed
functions as modern humans in regards to language and speech, but is much more limited and
simplified. Speech and language are key components that distinguish modern humans from their
close relatives primates. In the modern human brain, located on the frontal lobe, is the motor cortex

and berating her mother for watching her practice. In the chess game of life, however, Waverly

29. Use Of Ethos In Any Given Sunday
Using Rhetoric on Any Given Sunday One of the most inspirational speeches from the movie
Any Given Sunday, directed by Oliver Stone, occurs during a football team s pre game warm up.
In the movie, there is a fictional professional football team who is struggling to bring home any
wins for their home town. The speech is delivered by the head coach who is played by Al Pacino.
At the end of his speech, the team s coach has proven how effective the use of ethos, pathos, and
logos can be.
The method in which the coach uses to deliver his message really came from the heart. He uses
ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade the football team that they have the ability to win the game.

This ultimatum could be included in all three methods of persuasion, ethos, logos, and pathos.
Ethos is a miniscule role in this particular phrase. The team s coach has been in their shoes in the
past and knows what they have to face, ergo his credibility. The logos plays into the ultimate
decision: whether or not to admit defeat. In the quote Inch by inch, play by play. Until we re
finished, (Pacino, Any Given Sunday) we see a coach telling his team what they must do in
order to be successful. Lastly, pathos is the largest player of the game. The men on this football
team, including their coach, all are very passionate about the game they play. It is an emotional
experience for them all because of how much they care for football and for each other. The mere
thought of the season being over because of a loss is not the way these men want their season to
end, and they are going to fight for it, We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know
when add up all those inches, that s gonna make the fucking difference between winning and
losing! (Pacino, Any Given Sunday). Finally, this quote shows the amount of emotion that the
speakers put into some of his last few words to his team. That quote is similar to the final punch in

When it comes to the topic of ecotourism, most of us will readily agree that it is a less harmful
alternative to mass tourism and that it promotes responsible and low impact travel to areas where
flora, fauna and cultural heritage are the primary drawing power. Where this agreement usually
ends, however, is on the question of what the impact of ecotourism actually is and what its long
term consequences are. Whereas some are convinced that ecotourism provides the basis for
sustainable development, particularly in places that suffer from exploitation and excessive
resources usage, and that could only improve the general conditions of the local people, others

the composer for Touch of Evil and Breakfast at Tiffany s. While these two films may seem like
they don t connect with one another, they do and it is with Henry Mancini. By examining both of

At 10:26 the music strongly resembles the composition that was at the beginning of Touch of
Evil, it has the same ticking sound, it is just much quieter during this scene. Another scene
where we see an overlap is at 31:57, the party scene. In this scene the jazz music playing has the
same bongo drums that were in many scenes of Touch of Evil. And again there is another
overlap which shows that Mancini has a common stylistic trait and that is during the scene at
46:18. This scene is where Paul is being followed by Doc and during this scene the music is very
tense, and has very isolated instruments like in Touch of Evil. In Touch of Evil the scene where
Vargas is walking alone also has a tense tone in the music and like this scene it also has isolated
instruments. As a result, these few scenes show that Mancini has a specific style of music that he
uses, so much so that some of the same sounds in Touch of Evil are prevalent in this film. Mancini
shows his authorship and impacts the film with these choices because like in Touch of Evil they
tell the viewers how to feel. Whether it s to feel happy like the upbeat jazz when Paul and Holly
are going to Tiffany s or to feel anxious when Paul is being followed by Doc. Without these pieces
of music, the story line couldn t be followed especially at scenes like where Paul is being followed
and there is no dialogue to tell viewers how he feels. Mancini s compositions drive the

early can largely affect the ability of children to express themselves through writing. In most cases,
children sfirst encounter with books is bedtime stories from their parents. My journey of reading

The best memory I have of a book is reading andcomprehending the tale of The Three Little Pigs by

among the first books I borrowed from our local library. For me, reading this book was similar to a

librarian let me pick out for myself. The story was fascinating that I found myself acting it out
alone. Reading and writing was never easy for me. The fear of coming across a new word

My major worry was the inability to pronounce a new word especially in front of an audience.
Writing was not easy either and even the competition for reading and writing in my class was

When thyroid hormone levels drop too low, the hypothalamus secretes TSH Releasing Hormone
(TRH), which alerts the pituitary to produce thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The thyroid
responds to this chain of events by producing more hormones (Sargis, Robert M., 2016, para. 3).
The two main hormones that the thyroid produces and releases are tri iodothyronine, T3, and
thyroxine, T4. According to the Endocrine Web, A thyroid that is functioning normally produces
approximately 80% T4 and about 20% T3, though T3 is the stronger of the pair (Sargis, Robert

37. Why Do We Need The Electoral College
I believe that we don t need the Electoral College for multiple reasons. One of the reasons have to
do with technology and another reason has to do with power. There are more reasons as well.
While I believe that we don t need the Electoral College, if we go with the popular vote then we
could run into issues like the candidates won t actually get more than half of America s vote.
The first reason that I think that we should go with the popular vote is that while the people back
then needed the Electoral College, we don t anymore. Since we have modern technology, we can
be informed by searching the candidates views. Another evidence that we are informed is that
there has only been five times where the popular vote would have given a different president than
what the Electoral college would have picked. That means that the citizens of America are about as
informed as the people in the Electoral college.
The second reason that we should have the people vote instead of the Electoral college is that
the people who aren t part of the Electoral College don t have a say in who our president will be.
The only people who actually have a say is the people involved in the electoral college and that is

and reminds the latter of their duties to one another. He proposes, I am thy creature, and I will
be even mild a docile to my natural lord and king, if thou wilt perform thy part, the which thou
owest me...Remember, that I am thy creature; I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen
angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed, (Shelley, p. 69). He offers a chance to fix
their relationship, but he also reprimands Frankenstein for denying him at first. Again, the monster
refers back to the book he found to compare to and argue that Victor has a duty to provide for him.
He recalls the past few years of his life that he lived alone and criticizes,
No Eve soothed my sorrows nor shared my thoughts; I was alone. I remembered Adam s
supplication to his
Creator. But where was mine? He had abandoned me, and in the bitterness of my heart I cursed
him...I am an unfortunate and deserted creature; I look around, and I have no relation or friend
upon earth...I am an outcast in the world forever. (Shelley, p. 94, 95)
Frankenstein has also denied him the companionship that God gave to Adam in the garden. At the

43. A Critical Analysis Of Futility And 21 Guns
As of 2015, 75% of people reportedly listen to music on a daily basis. In contrast, only a small
6.7% of people read poetry yearly (Ingraham, 2015). These statistics prove poems are becoming
outdated, so to rectify this, I will be speaking about the relevancy of poems still to this day, by
comparing it to a contemporary song. Good morning Power of the Poem, the poem and song I
will be comparing are Futility and 21 Guns. Futility is a poem by the famous poet, Wilfred
Owen. Wilfred illustrates a comrade attempting to awake a fallen fellow soldier, however, as the
title suggests, the attempt is futile. The poem emphasises the pointlessness of war. Therefore to
reinforce the relevancy of poems, I will be comparing it to the song 21 Guns by Green Day. 21
Guns also talks about the unnecessariness of war and repeatedly asks the reader the point of war
to lay down their arms . Therefore, the theme of my poem and song is that war is gratuitous and
unnecessary, therefore fighting should cease because war is inessential. I will be explaining the
relevancy of the poem, Futility by describing the tone, language and sound devices used, and
comparing it to the tone, language, and sound devices in the song 21 Guns. The tone shown in
Futility begins in the first stanza as optimistic and hopeful, however this tone changes to negative
and angry in the second stanza. The first stanza being positive, evidentially shows the soldiers
attempting to awaken their comrade, have hope for the rising

44. Vietnam War Youth Culture Essay
Youth culture in the United States seems to change with every new fad and style, but the shift in
youth culture during the Vietnam War was something else entirely. Young adults were faced with
startling new things like being drafted into the military and facing violence on the homefront.
Young people in the United States, and soldiers stationed in Vietnam, tried to use drugs as an
escape from the reality of war and death. While the soldiers were fighting overseas, many young
people faced their own battles at home by protesting and and rallying. While looking back into the
1960s and 1970s, it is important that we recognize the struggles and triumphs of the Vietnam War
era youth.
To fully understand the changes of youth culture due to the Vietnam War, it is important to analyze
the United State s involvement in the war to begin with. The Vietnam War was an ongoing, violent
conflict between the Northern Vietnam communists called the Viet Cong and the democratic
Southern Vietnam (Kington, 2012). In the early 1950s, The United States began aiding South
Vietnam with funds and military training against the Viet Cong, over time the United States got
more involved in Vietnam. At one point in 1968, there were about 537,000 United States
servicemen in Vietnam and it was not until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men who had physical problems, were attending college, or were needed at home to support
their families might be granted deferments. A lot of draft age men [who] received deferments
were from wealthy and educated families. Highly prominent political figures who were accused
of improperly avoiding the draft includes Bill Clinton and Dick Cheney. Some other Americans
fled to Canada to avoid the drafts. These people were derogatorily referred as draft dodgers a very
popular term during the Vietnam war. These facts led the public to believe that U.S. draft policies

45. Anterior Cruciate Ligament In The Knee
A torn ACL is a injury in which also is a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the knee. When
someone tears their ACL they have to have a surgery to replace it. ACL injuries range from mild,
such as a small tear, to severe such as when the ligament tears completely or when the ligament and
part of the boneseparate from the rest of the bone. A lot of the time some of the other knee
ligaments or parts of the knee are also injured. This includes cartilage such as the menisci, or bones
in the knee jointthey also can be broken. Your ACL can be broken during sport activities. During

46. Custom House In Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne s introduction to The Scarlet Letter , The Custom House introduces the
reader to the narrator who bears a likeness to Hawthorne himself. Similarities between the two
include their occupation in the custom house, being descendants of Puritans, having an interest in
writing, and also being native to Salem. The narrator in the introduction describes the custom house,
his work there, the employees, writing in general, but the most significant event in this introduction
was his discovery of an unusual package, the contents in it being the scarlet letteran A , and records
that date back to the seventeenth century in the Puritan community. After being dismissed from his
job the narrator felt compelled to write about this discovery.
Bringing the commencement of the tale, the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prison door represents punishment to those who have sinned, justice, the austerity of Puritan
society and human nature (humans are sinful by nature). In contrast the rose bush is
...wild...covered, ... with its delicate gems...offer[ing] their fragrance and fragile beauty to the
prisoners as [t]he[y] went in... (Hawthorne, 33). Thus the rose bush is symbolic of God s/human s
mercy, paradise, human nature (positive outlook), hope and even individuality since it the only
beautiful and optimistically described thing in this chapter. Note, Hawthorne was a
transcendentalist and that individualism was a fundamental idea in this philosophical movement.
Also, Hawthorne sought to be a part or help create a utopia (Brook Farm communal experiment)
like the Puritans who had hoped to create their shining city upon a hill ; ironic that Hawthorne has
criticized the Puritans who ultimately had the same goal as Hawthorne, to create a utopia. The
placing of the prison door and the rose bush near one another created a juxtaposition of themes of
strict vs. wild and justice vs. mercy.
