Statistical Methods Used for the Analysis of Data
Introduction:
I will discuss in this paper one of statistical method used for analyzing data using time to conversion
as a dependent variable, it s called survival analysis, also it has many names such as event duration
analysis, transition event analysis, time to event analysis, failure analysis and other,
Definition of survival analysis:
There are many definitions for survival analysis I will mention some of them that can clarifying the
meaning, in general it s a set of statics methods dealing with time as a variable until the event
occurred. (Verlag, 1996)
Other definition, survival analysis used to analyze data in specific time which event is the interest and
the response of event refer to be a failure time or event in time or survival time. (BIOST, Feb 2005)
Or we can summarize the useful for survival analysis by below bullets:
Using time factor to conversion as dependent variable.
Probability using each interaction as an observation.
No needs for flatten the data.
Important of survival analysis:
Clinical trials (E.G. Cancer treatment).
Life insurance and superannuation.
Planning (E.G. Aged care).
Component manufacture.
Examples of survival analysis:
There are a lot of examples of many fields such (Economics, Finance, health, technology ...est.), so let
me provide some of examples as below,
In finance for instant (loan performance), borrowers taking a loan for a specific period of time are they

Terminal Illness Essay
Terminal Illness: Finding Acceptance and Closure
Latrese Washington
Baptist College of Health Sciences Cancer is one of the top leading causes of terminal illness and
death, and it takes the support of family and friends to help overcome many of the feelings that can
occur before, during, and after a diagnosis. It is often difficult to understand how to cope with the
feelings associated with losing people that you love and care about and watching other people that are
affected suffer emotionally along with the ailing family member or friends. Emotional challenges are
faced regarding what can be done to help the patient, family, and friends handle personal emotions
throughout the duration of the illness and the stages of grief. A person that is dealing with a terminal
illness, a family member, or friend must find a way to effectively handle and overcome the devastating
feelings associated with having a loved one being diagnosed or passing away after a long terminal
illness. There are different stages of grief and options available for any negative feelings associated
with handling the illness and acknowledging the anticipated loss of a loved one. The grieving and
coping process involves behavioral and emotional reactions, like shock and sadness, and then
acceptance and understanding while working towards healing or rebuilding life.
A patient may find it hard to come to terms after being diagnosed with an illness or disease, and it may
require social support from

The First Table In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried
Instead of explaining my tables in numerical order according to table number, I m going to go off the
order I came up with them. The first table that I pieced together was the band of outsiders. All of the
people who sit at this table don t quite fit in; each one of them possesses a quality that makes them
definitively stand out. The table I m talking about is table number one. The first person that I chose to
be part of this table was The Invisible Man from the eponymously titled book by Ralph Ellison. From
the famous first line of the novel, I am an invisible man, it s clear to the reader that T.I.M. doesn t fit in
(3). Throughout the story, T.I.M. frantically goes from situation to situation trying to figure out where
and how he fits in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, Kurtz is through and through crazy, but he s the man that none
of his peers presume would be broken by the jungle. Kurtz throws caution to the wind and pretty much
defects and does what he pleases. I think that Rinehart would respect a man like Kurtz because
Rinehart does it all and doesn t let anyone, let alone society, dictate his action. T.I.M. categorizes
Rinehart as a fraud, because of his capacity to play so many roles (384). Maybe Rine could give Kurtz
a few tips about successfully maintaining a few different realities and personas. I decided to add Rat
Kiley to this table because he could put up with all the crazy tales that the other men at his table have
to tell. He also has a breakdown, like Kurtz s but not quite as drastic, after the nightlife gets to him.
His hallucinations of bugs all over saying These pictures in my head, they won t quit...at night the

Douglas Rushkoff s Time Ain T Money
What is Money and Time? Time Ain t Money by Douglas Rushkoff is a manifesto regarding the
infinitely changing business world. In the manifesto, Rushkoff describes presentism which focuses on
the present more so than the past and even the future in relation to money and time. Rushkoff is trying
to enlighten us of the changes to the way we do business and how consumers want business to be
done. Throughout the manifesto, we get a sense of Rushkoff s opinion on our money system and how
times have changed. Getting a sense on his opinion, how has Rushkoff changed his audience s
perspective on time and money? The intended audience for this manifesto is mainly CEO s and
businessmen alike. Throughout the text, Rushkoff keeps refereeing to presentism. ... Show more

Why would did Rushkoff put this section where he did? I think this decision was important because it
focuses on how our currency system works and how it was originated. This section of the text really
changes how money should be perceived and how we as a society has changed. Rushkoff evaluates
the origin of our currency and basically says it s out of date. As our economy has shifted to
increasingly more digital networks, our currency has been devalued. Rushkoff says, the money we use
today central, bank issued currency is an artifact of the late middle ages (116). While this system of
currency has worked well, we need to shift to our digital stage in order to continue functioning. The
time based rules of money work quite well in an expansionist Industrial Age, (as long as we ignore the
impact on crafts people, local economies, and, of course slave populations), but they no longer seem
to function properly in a digital economy (117). Rushkoff says that because as times change, and we
switch to almost all digital transactions, our value and use of real currency also needs to change. You
can t have something lagging behind the other in society, it doesn t work that way. And Rushkoff
wants his audience to know that. He wants these big CEO s to be warry of perhaps a major shift in the
use of currency. He wants them to know because large business corporations are what keep society

Technology And The World s Political Climate Forced The...
The United States has lead the way in transforming technology and changing the conduct of war over
the past sixty five years; working to create a safer, more stable and prosperous world for America, our
allies, and partners abroad. However, modern warfare is evolving rapidly, leading to increasingly
contested battlespace in the air, sea, and space domains as well as cyberspace in which our forces
enjoyed dominance in our most recent conflicts. Changes in warfare and the world s political climate
forced the United States to change their strategic focus and redefine their outlook for the future; based
on new technologies, new centers of power, and a world that is growing more volatile, more
unpredictable, and in some instances more threatening to the United States.
In March of 2014 the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) revised the DOD strategy to align with
current threats and budgetary constraints. The QDR started by listing the three pillars of strategic
focus. The first pillar is protecting the homeland. The need to concentrate on homeland protection is
increasing in importance due to amplified threats, and preparing for catastrophes; natural disaster
relief is part of homeland protection. The second pillar is global security; deterring conflicts before
they begin while strengthening our partnerships around the globe. The third pillar is projecting power
and winning decisively; whether that s to be able to respond to conflict, or whether it s to come to the

Socrates Characteristics Of Philosophi
Socrates Compelling Attributes
(A discussion of Socrates characteristics, in Plato s The Republic, that make him so enthralling as an
individual)
He was remarkable for the absolute command he maintained over his emotions and his apparent
indifference to physical hardships (Kenny). Some refer to Socrates as remarkable, influential, or even
intriguing, yet what does it mean to be intriguing? It is someone who is significantly unique in
comparison to the majority of the public. An intriguing person leaves his or her mark with almost
anyone that crosses their path. Many will attest that Socrates was a man who left most people he met,
in a different state of mind. He was one to make people question the society that they live in and
honestly, not many people during that time period were appreciative of his intelligence. Although
there is not very much known about Socrates, as he himself never wrote anything down,
characteristics about him can be inferred through the reading of the dialogues his student, Plato, wrote.
In the first two books of Plato s dialogue, The Republic, there are many aspects of Socrates that make
him such an enthralling and influential individual even today. Being quick witted is one attribute of
Socrates, which makes him such an intriguing individual. The Socratic method of teaching is possibly
what Socrates is best known for in modern times. Asking a question, receiving an answer, and then
asking another question that makes that answer seem invalid is

Examples Of Destruction In Tangerine By Edward Bloor
Have you ever seen destruction or had something of yours destroyed? There may not have been an
obvious immediate benefit from that destruction. Edward Bloor teaches us that destruction creates a
chance for growth and opportunity. In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor, he describes the life of
13 year old Paul Fisher. Paul witnesses the destruction of his first school, Lake Windsor, from a
sinkhole. Due to this destruction, he gets the opportunity to go to a new school called Tangerine
Middle. There he makes friends and finds himself helping them with the freeze. The freeze is when
the temperature drops and the tangerine trees start to freeze. After the freeze, the trees produce the
wonderful growth of the amazing golden dawn. Therefore, Edward Bloor uses the sinkhole and the
freeze to reveal the theme that destruction creates a chance for growth and opportunity. ... Show more

I Attend A Cultural Event
For the assignment, attend a cultural event, I choose to visit a mosque. I have been extremely intrigued
by the Arabic cultures. However, I have never spoken to a Muslim woman. Therefore, I was very
exited to visit a mosque and to attend a meeting with females who are giving a lecture about; the
woman and their Hijab. The woman who gave the tour of the mosque was a Sunni Muslim. What is
the larger culture within the Islam. The Muslim religion was very negatively in the media the last
years, and a lot of people bias and stereotype in seconds when they see a Muslim woman wearing a
Hijab. Why? Are scared of the unknown? Time to do some research and find the woman behind the
scarf.
The mosque I visited was the one closest to ASU, in 1960 the first Muslims started to go to college
and in the 70ish, they bought a house near campus so that they had a place to go to and do their
prayers. The facility did grow rapidly and in 1984. They build the mosque. The building is a copy of
the dome of the rock in Jerusalem, and the community is self sustaining. 2500 people from every
continent visit the mosque regularly.
A Muslim has to pray five times a day, the first one when the sun during sunset and the last prayer is
during sunrise. If they feel the need, they can do extra prayers. The average prayer takes about 10
minutes, and is in Arabic. The prayer is the connection to God; you can also compare it with
meditating, finding your inner peace. I have witnessed one of those prayers, and

War and Death in the Twentieth Century
The twentieth century was dominated by war and death. From the turn of the century, major powers
fought against one another trying to fight against those that oppressed them and others fighting to keep
oppressors from oppressing the people. World War I, World War II, and the Cold War were wars that
dominated this century, though there were many other, smaller, battles that took place throughout
these years. Powerful regimes that had been around for hundreds of years came crashing down with
new nations rising up in their place, dozens of peace treaties were signed to appease those that had
fought, and new political powers rose up and the rights of the people began to change. War drastically
changed the outcome of the twentieth century with the beginning of the century care free but, at the
end, many ideas and views of how life should be were shattered and war would leave a bitter memory
for many. The beginning of the twentieth century started on a high note. Most countries were pleased
with how their governments were being controlled and most of the people within those countries were
happy. However, this did not mean that everyone, or country, was happy. With the beginning and
ending of World War I, the ideas that many Europeans had supported...that man is always
progressing...that life is always improving, were shattered. Gone were the dreams of a prosperous life,
that life was good, and that wars were quick little squabble between countries with

Middle Childhood Chapter 13 Summary
After reading chapters eleven through sixteen, I learned a lot about middle childhood and adolescence
development. The three developments that were mainly discussed were biosocial, cognitive, and
psychosocial. Chapters eleven through thirteen, talks about the development in middle children.
Middle Childhood which is the period between early childhood and early adolescence from the ages of
six to eleven. During middle childhood health is very important and with the improvement of new
advances in the medical field childhood sickness and deaths has decreased. One problem that we still
suffer with in childhood is obesity. That is why we encourage children to be physically active in
school and home. Brain development does not stop during toddler years it continues during middle ...

Indiana Jones Summary
What surprised me most about this documentary was that as a child I had just assumed that the
sporadic and fantastical adventures of Indiana Jones were fiction in their entirety. I never would have
been able to guess that many parts of his adventures mirrored the lives of real life archeologists. What
was most interesting about learning about the way Indiana Jones and modern day archeologists share
some of the same adventures was the way they spoke about it so practically. The endless insects, the
illnesses, the natives and rivalries, it was all like hearing this grand adventure become real life. It was
fascinating having this idea of archeology being a somewhat mild and monotonous career flipped
around to realize that archeology is really

The remaining transcripts filtered by above filtration steps were considered as putative lncRNAs. To
understand the biological function of lncRNAs, the target genes were predicted based on cis acting
and trans acting modes [6]. The sliding window strategy was used to search cis acting target genes
within 10 kb upstream and downstream of lncRNAs []. To identify lncRNAs that may act in the trans
acting mode, the expression correlations between lncRNAs and all genes were calculated. The above
analysis was performed using the perl and R scripts. 4. Functional annotation of protein coding
transcripts The protein coding transcripts were compared with sequences in Nr protein and nucleotide
(Nt) databases, the Swiss Prot protein database to assign potential function onto transcripts. The
program Blast2GO [7] and InterproScan [8] were used to obtain GO annotation of the transcripts and
identify protein domains, respectively. GO and enrichment analyses were performed using GOseq,
involving biological process, molecular function, and cellular component. The metabolic pathways
were predicted using KAAS [9], and KOBAS 3.0 [10]was used to test the statistical enrichment of
differentially expressed lncRNA target genes. Complementarily, genome wide prediction of the

Essay on Political Drama in Henry IV and Henry V
Political Drama in Henry IV and Henry V
The contention that Shakespeare s histories are in fact political drama appears to fall uneasily on the
ears of modern readers. One reason for this could be the fact that we, as a society, have blurred the
connotation of politics to the vaguest of notions narrow at times, yet far too inclusive. A young reader
is likely to view politics as election and debate, a sort of ongoing candidacy. Indeed, this may be a
valid modern definition, if somewhat limited. For our purposes, however, this definition is not
sufficient to establish a starting point from which to examine Shakespeare s presentation of political
drama.
If we define politics as the acquisition and exercise of the power ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, too often he is playing to the wrong audience. Richard disdains his own populace as a
base court (III.iii.180), preferring instead the flattering members of his inner retinue. He seems to envy
Bolingbroke his courtship to the common people/How he did seem to dive into their hearts/With
humble and familiar courtesy (I.iv.24 6), but would never think to mingle with them.
Henry, on the other hand, has learned well from his father s example, as well as from his own
experience. In his famous Saint Crispin s Day speech, he inspires his soldiers by proclaiming himself
one of them: For he today that sheds his blood with me/Shall be my brother (IV.iii.61 2). It can be
assumed that Shakespeare s presentation of the young Prince Hal in the two parts of Henry IV is
designed to reinforce this idea of Henry as a man of the people. Hal s youthful escapades have taught
him a deep understanding of the human nature of the citizens he must rule, making him wise beyond
his years (Rosenblum 133 4).
Unfortunately, if Richard ignores the need to maintain the admiration of his citizens, he also overlooks
his need for the support of the nobility. The historical Richard angered Parliament with his extravagant
household expenses (Hollister 314), which required extraordinary taxation of

The Power And Wealth Of The Chaebol
As I have stated earlier, the Chaebols have gained significant advantage to become the top class due to
government control of the financial system in the 1960s. The power and wealth of the chaebol could
be best explained by the music video Gangnam Style , produced by Park Jaesang, who is known as
Psy in the video. As of June 2014, on the CNN Entertainment website stated that Gangnam Style has
charted a new record: 2 billion YouTube views (Conlon, 2014) and has become the most watched
video in YouTube history. The video is enjoyed enormously by the American public, which is kind of
puzzling, because many do not know the Korean language, therefore, are unable to understand what
the video is really talking about.
The video went viral and became a sensation because the main character Psy intentionally ridicules
himself by performing exaggerated and bizarre choreographies with beautiful women and expensive
garments in the video. Psy wanted to especially focus on the change of modern Korean culture toward
a culture catered to the narcissist and pretentious people in Korea, even the singer expressed in a
interview that Human society is so hollow, and even while filming I felt pathetic. Each frame by frame
was hollow (Fisher, 2012). The underline message of the video was about class and wealth problem in
present day Korean society. Gangnam is a district in Korea that is known for its heavily concentrated
wealth and high standard of living. Offspring of the Chaebol

Schizophrenia: An Elusive Complex Disorder
A discussion of the Progress made so far in understanding the Genetic Architecture of Schizophrenia
Mendelian diseases conform to Mendel s laws of genetic inheritance; segregation and independent
assortment. Therefore, every pair of alleles in diploid organisms, are separated during meiosis and one
allele for every trait is passed onto one of the two daughter cells, independently of all other genes.
Thus, depending on the recessive or dominant status of both alleles for a gene, an individual may or
may not develop a simple disorder where one gene is sufficient causality (Mendel, 1865). In ... Show

several variants may be combined in a multiplicative way, as demonstrated by the S curve in figure 2,
where individuals with more than 43 risk alleles will develop the disorder.

Exchange models such as the liability threshold model (LTM), figure 3, can also model Schizophrenia.
Both models can be created for many combinations of allele number, frequency, effect size predicting
a steep rise in disease probability for a small percentage of the population. In the LTM all individuals

Differences Between Leis And Gilgamesh
Wallis and Gilgamesh both had quite different interpretations and writing styles when it came to pre
human history. Wallis had more emphasis on nature as a living and breathing entity that must be
protected and respected. While Gilgamesh was more set on human progress and conquest. There was a
sense of balance with Gilgamesh but to me it was more based on human progress. There are clear
differences in Wallis and Gilgamesh s societies. Wallis has more emphasis on the people s culture and
how accurate they describe the methods in which they use to survive. There is clear differences
between economies, how the communities present themselves, resource usage, and relationship with
the world. Starting with how each author presents there represented with otherworldly nature.
Gilgamesh is a good example of Greek storytelling. Well, at least similar to it in the way it s presented.
It was foretold in a simple format, focused on hero s, with a simple world building aspect. In
Gilgamesh, it divulges a lot about gods, but it assumes you already know about these gods. Much
more emphasis is set upon humanity as it goes into great detail to describe most of the main characters
that were brought up in the story, likewise with Gilgamesh s conquest. In striking contrast, Wallis has

The Lost Boys Directed by Joel Schumacher
Conversely, Kusserow, instead of using irony or literary images, she forms meaning in her poetry
through the use of metaphors. As Tyson states, A metaphor is a comparison of two dissimilar objects
in which the properties of one are ascribed to the other (143). Kusserow uses several metaphors
throughout her poem to help elucidate the effects of the Second Sudanese Civil Wars on the Lost
Boys. Regarding the Lost Boys , the name given to the groups of over 20,000 boys of the Neur and
Dinka ethnic groups who were displaced and orphaned during the Second Sudanese Civil War,
Kusserow writes, packs of bony Lost Boys / roving like hyenas towards Ethiopia, / tongues, big as
toads, swelling in their mouths (15 17). Here, Kusserow has used two zoomorphic metaphors,
applying animal characteristics sot humans. She compares the Lost Boys to a hyena, a wild and
chaotic animal, depicting the boys as a bunch of mad and violent scavengers, implying that they try to
search for and collect anything that can be a source of food for them. Moreover, her comparison in
which she describes the tongues of the Boys to be as big as toads, she is illustrating the extreme level
of dehydration that the boy s probable experienced, and how their tongues swell up since that is a
symptom of dehydration. From Kusserow s use of zoomorphic metaphors, we can see that she is
trying to show how the Lost Boys have been dehumanized due to the dreadful condition they have had
to face as a product of the Second

The Beach Descriptive Essay
A dark lane, dark towers and a pitch gloomy sun passed by me as I followed my path beneath a cloak
of darkness. As I walked down Grey Street, I outstretched for that recognisable wall but didn t find
anything to guide me further. Through walls, through windows, perhaps right beside me I was exposed
to expressions reverberating in puzzlement.
As I carefully strolled down the lane, I know you sympathised me. Your glorious gift allowed me to
see the elegant and vibrant horizon, disperse into a brilliant mixture of colours alongside the
glimmering crystal. As the unforgiving light exposed the world s paleness and blemishes, I know you
had the gift of seeing the specks of sand flicker above the ground, For I was trapped in darkness. ...

In my frantic surge to escape from my nightmare, I grasped my lantern and tossed it across the
ground. I felt no remorse as I heard it smash into tiny fragments along the grey tiles. What good was a
lantern when light failed to exist? My mother swept the pieces to the side of the household and sat by
my side As I glance upon her face filled with emotion, nothing but darkness watched down on me. It
was a silent reminder that I would never see her expression again; that I would never see her giggle at
times of pure joy. At that moment my entire body filled with agony. When I asked her if all had been
lost, I heard a calm yawn as she drew me into her arms. She told me that there is no light without
darkness, that my ability to choose my answer; to alter my decisions in an unchanged situation will
never be taken from me.
She voiced that this world could be sculpture for my thoughts and inspiration. One autumn morning, A
minor echo in the distance awakened me. A bleak thin gust of wind swept past my face roaring and
rattling along the housetops, as fragrances of peach and jasmine overpowered my nostrils. The vague
echo became a vibration as I felt it come closer and closer like the grumble of a hurrying cavalry. The
gusty winds sent leaves lightly trembling down onto the ground, making no sound effects. Branches
intertwined in and out of each other as if they were in there own private dance. For a second, the
world became inactive

Expressive Arts Therapy Essay
Before we can understand what expressive art therapy is, however, an understanding of terms, like
imagination and creativity, is necessary. There is a lack of consensus about how imagination and
creativity are defined and who is capable of it. In therapeutic contexts, the essence of imagination is
the substance of dreams. Dreams, however, are not just images. In dreams, sounds, rhythms, acts, etc.
can be perceived in a sensory or experiential way (Levine Levine, 2004). Creativity springs from
imagination and is understood in terms of its qualities and characteristics: spontaneity, playfulness,
motivation, originality, self expression, inventiveness, divergent thinking, and intuition. Creativity
pushes limits, breaks down barriers, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Western traditions narrowly define art as a market oriented specialized discipline (Levine Levine,
2004). When art is used therapeutically, content and meaning take priority over mechanics and
technicalities.
Creativity and creative process figure prominently in the theories of both Freud and Jung. Freud
considers the source and motivation for creativity while Jung focuses on creative process. According
to Freud, creativity is rooted in conflicts. The creative process is a response to the need to resolve
conflicts. Freud includes daydreams and fantasies in the realm of creative works. They are inner
desires, frustrations, or discontent transformed into art, literature, or music. Jung also believes human
consciousness provides the content for art, literature and music. He identifies two types of creative
processes: psychological and visionary. The psychological mode originates out of the collective
unconscious and archetypes. Visionary creative processes are transcendental and universal in both
meaning and response. This visionary mode is limited to the gifted few being capable of its expression
(Malchiodi, 2007).
Almost every theoretical orientation has adapted the use and techniques of expressive arts therapy in
some way. Humanistic psychology, for example, emphasizes the importance of play, creativity, and
spontaneity. The creative process is intrinsic to self actualization. Self actualization makes life more
meaningful and enhances abilities,

Omnipotence Of God
God is the almighty, the all powerful, and the creator. The concept of God has intrigued humans since
the dawn of time. As a result, the ability to understand Him is necessary. The question, What is God?,
has baffled intellectuals throughout history. According to the Oxford Dictionary, God is the creator
and ruler of the universe and source of moral authority. However, this definition loosely describes the
fundamentals of God himself. In order to accurately define Him, one must go beyond sources like the
Bible because it contains refutable miracles to outline the acts of God. To truly define God, one must
identify the traits that make God unparalleled. God must be an omniscient and omnipotent, an
omnibenevolent, and an omnitemporal being. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By being all knowing, or omniscient, He is able to observe all parts of the universe. This ability is the
reason why people believe He is cognizant of whether they have sinned or shown virtue. In order to be
all knowing, God must also be all powerful, or omnipotent. Omnipotence allows God to create the
universe and control everything within it. Without omniscience and omnipotence, God would be
demoted to just a higher order being instead of the perfect being, which would defy the basis for
monotheistic beliefs. Likely the most challenging trait for people to understand is God s
omnibenevolence: the ability to be completely good. Omnibenevolence suggests His capacity to end
all suffering. However, He intentionally allows the path of life to veer away from perfection. This fact
stems from the gift of free will. Without free will, life would lose its meaning and thus would be
fundamentally imperfect. God s omnibenevolence is to provide a life with meaning. His creation of an
imperfect existence is the epitome of perfection, for what is life but

Chen Hong Xia is a Migrant Workers in China s Growing Economy
Chen Hong Xia is one of the 250 million migrants in China s growing economy. These migrant
workers are the people that supports China s whole economy, without them China will not be where it
is now. Although they are crucial in China s growth, migrant workers are treated with disrespect. Chen
Hong Xia is one of the luckier migrant workers. She was able to work her way out of poverty into a
better future. There are many similarities between Chen Hong Xia and most migrants in China, but
Chen Hong Xia s life is significantly better than most migrants. In this essay we will be comparing
and contrasting Chen Hong Xia s expectations, working environment, living environment and children
to the migrant workers in China.
Like many of the migrant workers in China, Chen Hong Xia wanted a better future in the city and find
a job with good working conditions and high wages. Chen Hong Xia comes from a small town in
Shandong province, she grew up on a farm producing rice and corn. Although there were many job
opportunities in Shan Dong province, all the jobs were agricultural jobs that offered low pay and
required lots of physical activity. In the movie Last Train Home directed by Lixin Fan, Qin left
Sichuan Province and went to Dong Guan city because she wanted more money and be able to pursue
her dreams. Many of China s younger generation of migrant workers are abandoning agricultural
production and moving permanently to the city. (Zhou Jing, China s New Generation Of Migrant
Workers)

Sad Story
Most people who bother with the matter at all would admit that the English language is in a bad way,
but it is generally assumed that we cannot by conscious action do anything about it. Our civilization is
decadent and our language so the argument runs must inevitably share in the general collapse. It
follows that any struggle against the abuse of language is a sentimental archaism, like preferring
candles to electric light or hansom cabs to aeroplanes. Underneath this lies the half conscious belief
that language is a natural growth and not an instrument which we shape for our own purposes. Now, it
is clear that the decline of a language must ultimately have political and economic causes: it is not due
simply to the bad influence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

avoidable ugliness, two qualities are common to all of them. The first is staleness of imagery; the
other is lack of precision. The writer either has a meaning and cannot express it, or he inadvertently
says something else, or he is almost indifferent as to whether his words mean anything or not. This
mixture of vagueness and sheer incompetence is the most marked characteristic of modern English
prose, and especially of any kind of political writing. As soon as certain topics

Sandbox Vs Android Security Essay
The kernel enforces security between applications and the system at the process level through standard
Linux facilities, such as user and group IDs that are assigned to applications. By default, applications

application A tries to do something malicious like read application B s data or dial the phone without
permission (a separate application), then the Operating System protects against this, because
application A does not have the appropriate user privileges. All these features together are called the

Summary Of Sonnet 42 By Millay
In Sonnet 42, Edna St Vincent Millay speaks of various love affairs coming to an end and the forlorn
and remorseful feelings linked to them. She expresses her longing attitude towards her lost loves by
employing melancholic diction, contrasting seasonal imagery, and natural metaphors. The melancholic
diction creates the longing attitude toward the speakers past loves in the poem. Words such as
forgotten (line 2) and unremembered (7) all stress the speaker s attitude because they have negative
connations that convey the remorseful and longing feelings. These words also are in the past tense
which portray the speaker s gloomy feelings when she reflects on the past and her love interests back
then. The melancholic diction is also associated with the seasonal imagery and natural metaphors that
are described throughout the poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author first depicts winter imagery when describing the lonely tree (9) and how the birds have all
vanished because it evokes the image of a bare tree as all the birds have left and migrated south for the
winter. Winter is a cold, depressing season because everything is gone, the leaves, the birds, the plants,
just like the speakers love interests all have gone too. Thus the winter images add further to the
longing attitude of the speaker. Then, the author contrasts the winter imagery with summer images.
Summer is the season of joviality and lightheartedness, but the speaker states that what summer sang
in me (13) is gone, which infers that the speaker s happiness and lively spirit is gone because all her
past loves have left. The contrast between the descriptions of the two seasons, which symbolize
different feelings, highlights the speakers longing attitude for her past loves that have

The Affirmative Action Movement
Affirmative action is necessary to give women and minorities a level playing field.
The affirmative action movement began in 1960 with the intention of promoting opportunities for
minority groups. How is that in the year 2015 we are still having discussions about women and
minorities being discriminated against? While the movement of the 1960 s has brought attention to
discrepancy against groups, which has paved the platform for reform and opportunity, there is a break
down in the movement if 55 years later there is still discrepancy thereby suggesting a resign of the
efforts of the movement may be needed. Do I agree with affirmative action? I am a female. I m a

Digital Film And Digital Technologies Essay
Regarding my photographic process I am somewhat bilingual, making use of both analog film and
digital technologies. I primarily shoot large format sheet film with a view camera because of the
amount of control the camera provides and the rich, descriptive negative that the process yields. The
image is output in the form of archival pigment prints which are then sprayed with a clear coat that
enhances the blacks of the print. The prints are produced using a drum scanner and large format
printers which provide a high degree of control, sharpness, and description that is imperative to my
work and not possible in the dark room. The photographs presented in my thesis exhibition reflect
semantic, semiotic, and philosophical interests. They also describe formal concerns contrasting
surfaces and architectural anomalies may create a kind of perceptual discrepancy upon first glance.
The pictures, however, are decidedly un mediated descriptions of real world phenomena. In this way,
the photographs demonstrate an interest in the ready made and my on going commitment to making
work in and of the world. In the removed sign works, I photographed residual adhesive attached to
walls after signs have been removed. Confined by the rectangle of the photographic frame or the sign

What Is The Theme Of Battle Royal By Ralph Ellison
A Not so Royal Battle
There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when
we fail to protest (Wiesel). Battle Royal, a short story by Ralph Ellison, marks the resolution of the
Civil War and slavery in the United States. The narrator s grandfather, who was freed from slavery 85
years earlier, had just died. The narrator was chosen to give a speech in an ensemble of rich whites. In
the beginning, it seems as though he s hesitant on reciting his speech, but he is blindfolded with
multiple others and put into a boxing ring where all of them fight. Not to mention, he was beaten
badly.
In addition, he has to fight with Tatlock, but now the blindfold has been taken off by the Whites once
again he is beaten. He and the others are then put around a rug and are told to get the coins or
crumpled up bills, but little did they know that the rug was electrified. So as they raced to get the
money, they were shocked. Then the MC tells him that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I say that this is about the war but it is the war that the narrator is blinded because of these three main
points: the mention of fighting, symbolism, and animal imagery.
The grandfather mentioned in the beginning of the story to keep up the good fight (Ellison 247). War
is the topic, such as fighting for what is right unlike combat war; in which the narrator was blind to.
Racial relations in the United States, even after the end of the Civil War, and the era of
Reconstruction, are described as an ongoing war, and the struggle of African Americans to gain
equality is referred to as the good fight (Brent 2). Gaining equal right as the Whites are what the
African Americans want. Our life is a war (Trimmer 46). Life is war because people are always
fighting for what is right. The narrator thought that everything that happened was actually fine. He
wasn t upset by it at all as long as he got to do his speech. As a matter of fact, he was

Address To The Swedish Peace In Congress 1909
What is peace? To me peace is non violence, The act of not killing and solving issues formally in
person or on paper. Peace cannot be implemented if we are killing other people and countries and
letting our neighbors and love ones die. If we can prevent people dying then what is stopping us?
Negative peace is when violence ends. While positive peace is where it ends but brings either a change
for the better or is positively impacted. This class covers so much content it was honestly really hard
for me to pick out two major strands of the course that I found most interesting. My Opinion is that we
should not have to solve our issues by killing. One of my favorite readings was Chapter eight, Address

then war should not exist. Yet no one really understood that concept because no one was ever brave
enough to say something about it. Just like the story of the parable of the Emperor s New Clothes. A
king who is naked but no one says anything about it because only brilliant people wear that type of

The Role Of Sex Work And Sex Trafficking
Human trafficking, or trafficking in persons, is a crime where people profit from the exploitation of
others through some form of labor (Polaris, 2015). Sex trafficking, is a crime throughout the world,
and the United States is no exception. Taking a domestic approach to study gender and sex trafficking,
or sex work period in the United States, requires one to know how people do gender while being a part
of this industry. Examining the structure of gender in society with regard to sex work and sex
trafficking sheds light on how the system works and how it is perpetuated.
To understand how gender works in both individual participants and overall structures of sex
trafficking, one must understand gender as both a structure and as an individual identity (Lorber, 1994;
Risman, 1998). So, how do issues of gender inequality tie into trafficking? Women are commonly
trafficked for domestic service and sex industries. Sex trafficking is beneficial because it s very
profitable and is occurring around the globe. The industrialization of the sex trafficking and its
globalization are fundamental factors that make contemporary prostitution qualitatively different from
the prostitution of yesterday. Consumers in the economic North now have access to young and exotic
girls, very young bodies around the world. These beautiful young ladies come from countries like,
Brazil, Cuba, Russia, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Vietnam, Nicaragua. The sex industry is
diversified, sophisticated,

Suspense In Come On Hally By Bernard Fugard
Fugard begins the play with very simple, ordinary characters. That use some light hearted, comedic
and joyful phrases and informal dialogue which later begins to sound more serious and rough through
more formal phrases.
The tension slowly rises and Fugard keeps the audience hooked with every detail. He uses a variety of
literary techniques in a short time between the two phone calls, from Hally s mother. Hally is therefore
creating suspense for the audience and Fugard uses the powerful verb in the stage directions slamming
for a dramatic effect in performance. However, shortly after this rise in suspense, Fugard uses the
calming phrase of Come on Hally to reduce the tension.

  • 3. Terminal Illness Essay Terminal Illness: Finding Acceptance and Closure Latrese Washington Baptist College of Health Sciences Cancer is one of the top leading causes of terminal illness and death, and it takes the support of family and friends to help overcome many of the feelings that can occur before, during, and after a diagnosis. It is often difficult to understand how to cope with the feelings associated with losing people that you love and care about and watching other people that are affected suffer emotionally along with the ailing family member or friends. Emotional challenges are faced regarding what can be done to help the patient, family, and friends handle personal emotions throughout the duration of the illness and the stages of grief. A person that is dealing with a terminal illness, a family member, or friend must find a way to effectively handle and overcome the devastating feelings associated with having a loved one being diagnosed or passing away after a long terminal illness. There are different stages of grief and options available for any negative feelings associated with handling the illness and acknowledging the anticipated loss of a loved one. The grieving and coping process involves behavioral and emotional reactions, like shock and sadness, and then acceptance and understanding while working towards healing or rebuilding life. • 4. The First Table In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried Instead of explaining my tables in numerical order according to table number, I m going to go off the order I came up with them. The first table that I pieced together was the band of outsiders. All of the people who sit at this table don t quite fit in; each one of them possesses a quality that makes them definitively stand out. The table I m talking about is table number one. The first person that I chose to be part of this table was The Invisible Man from the eponymously titled book by Ralph Ellison. From the famous first line of the novel, I am an invisible man, it s clear to the reader that T.I.M. doesn t fit in (3). Throughout the story, T.I.M. frantically goes from situation to situation trying to figure out where and how he fits in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, Kurtz is through and through crazy, but he s the man that none of his peers presume would be broken by the jungle. Kurtz throws caution to the wind and pretty much defects and does what he pleases. I think that Rinehart would respect a man like Kurtz because Rinehart does it all and doesn t let anyone, let alone society, dictate his action. T.I.M. categorizes Rinehart as a fraud, because of his capacity to play so many roles (384). Maybe Rine could give Kurtz a few tips about successfully maintaining a few different realities and personas. I decided to add Rat Kiley to this table because he could put up with all the crazy tales that the other men at his table have to tell. He also has a breakdown, like Kurtz s but not quite as drastic, after the nightlife gets to him. His hallucinations of bugs all over saying These pictures in my head, they won t quit...at night the pictures get to be a bitch. I start seeing my own body. Chunks of myself...I swear, it s too much. • 5. Douglas Rushkoff s Time Ain T Money What is Money and Time? Time Ain t Money by Douglas Rushkoff is a manifesto regarding the infinitely changing business world. In the manifesto, Rushkoff describes presentism which focuses on the present more so than the past and even the future in relation to money and time. Rushkoff is trying to enlighten us of the changes to the way we do business and how consumers want business to be done. Throughout the manifesto, we get a sense of Rushkoff s opinion on our money system and how times have changed. Getting a sense on his opinion, how has Rushkoff changed his audience s perspective on time and money? The intended audience for this manifesto is mainly CEO s and businessmen alike. Throughout the text, Rushkoff keeps refereeing to presentism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why would did Rushkoff put this section where he did? I think this decision was important because it focuses on how our currency system works and how it was originated. This section of the text really changes how money should be perceived and how we as a society has changed. Rushkoff evaluates the origin of our currency and basically says it s out of date. As our economy has shifted to increasingly more digital networks, our currency has been devalued. Rushkoff says, the money we use today central, bank issued currency is an artifact of the late middle ages (116). While this system of currency has worked well, we need to shift to our digital stage in order to continue functioning. The time based rules of money work quite well in an expansionist Industrial Age, (as long as we ignore the impact on crafts people, local economies, and, of course slave populations), but they no longer seem to function properly in a digital economy (117). Rushkoff says that because as times change, and we switch to almost all digital transactions, our value and use of real currency also needs to change. You can t have something lagging behind the other in society, it doesn t work that way. And Rushkoff wants his audience to know that. He wants these big CEO s to be warry of perhaps a major shift in the use of currency. He wants them to know because large business corporations are what keep society ... • 7. Technology And The World s Political Climate Forced The... The United States has lead the way in transforming technology and changing the conduct of war over the past sixty five years; working to create a safer, more stable and prosperous world for America, our allies, and partners abroad. However, modern warfare is evolving rapidly, leading to increasingly contested battlespace in the air, sea, and space domains as well as cyberspace in which our forces enjoyed dominance in our most recent conflicts. Changes in warfare and the world s political climate forced the United States to change their strategic focus and redefine their outlook for the future; based on new technologies, new centers of power, and a world that is growing more volatile, more unpredictable, and in some instances more threatening to the United States. In March of 2014 the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) revised the DOD strategy to align with current threats and budgetary constraints. The QDR started by listing the three pillars of strategic focus. The first pillar is protecting the homeland. The need to concentrate on homeland protection is increasing in importance due to amplified threats, and preparing for catastrophes; natural disaster relief is part of homeland protection. The second pillar is global security; deterring conflicts before they begin while strengthening our partnerships around the globe. The third pillar is projecting power and winning decisively; whether that s to be able to respond to conflict, or whether it s to come to the aid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Socrates Characteristics Of Philosophi Socrates Compelling Attributes (A discussion of Socrates characteristics, in Plato s The Republic, that make him so enthralling as an individual) He was remarkable for the absolute command he maintained over his emotions and his apparent indifference to physical hardships (Kenny). Some refer to Socrates as remarkable, influential, or even intriguing, yet what does it mean to be intriguing? It is someone who is significantly unique in comparison to the majority of the public. An intriguing person leaves his or her mark with almost anyone that crosses their path. Many will attest that Socrates was a man who left most people he met, in a different state of mind. He was one to make people question the society that they live in and honestly, not many people during that time period were appreciative of his intelligence. Although there is not very much known about Socrates, as he himself never wrote anything down, characteristics about him can be inferred through the reading of the dialogues his student, Plato, wrote. In the first two books of Plato s dialogue, The Republic, there are many aspects of Socrates that make him such an enthralling and influential individual even today. Being quick witted is one attribute of Socrates, which makes him such an intriguing individual. The Socratic method of teaching is possibly what Socrates is best known for in modern times. • 11. War and Death in the Twentieth Century The twentieth century was dominated by war and death. From the turn of the century, major powers fought against one another trying to fight against those that oppressed them and others fighting to keep oppressors from oppressing the people. World War I, World War II, and the Cold War were wars that dominated this century, though there were many other, smaller, battles that took place throughout these years. Powerful regimes that had been around for hundreds of years came crashing down with new nations rising up in their place, dozens of peace treaties were signed to appease those that had fought, and new political powers rose up and the rights of the people began to change. War drastically changed the outcome of the twentieth century with the beginning of the century care free but, at the end, many ideas and views of how life should be were shattered and war would leave a bitter memory for many. The beginning of the twentieth century started on a high note. Most countries were pleased with how their governments were being controlled and most of the people within those countries were happy. However, this did not mean that everyone, or country, was happy. Indiana Jones Summary What surprised me most about this documentary was that as a child I had just assumed that the sporadic and fantastical adventures of Indiana Jones were fiction in their entirety. I never would have been able to guess that many parts of his adventures mirrored the lives of real life archeologists. What was most interesting about learning about the way Indiana Jones and modern day archeologists share some of the same adventures was the way they spoke about it so practically. • 15. Essay on Political Drama in Henry IV and Henry V Political Drama in Henry IV and Henry V The contention that Shakespeare s histories are in fact political drama appears to fall uneasily on the ears of modern readers. One reason for this could be the fact that we, as a society, have blurred the connotation of politics to the vaguest of notions narrow at times, yet far too inclusive. A young reader is likely to view politics as election and debate, a sort of ongoing candidacy. Indeed, this may be a valid modern definition, if somewhat limited. For our purposes, however, this definition is not sufficient to establish a starting point from which to examine Shakespeare s presentation of political drama. If we define politics as the acquisition and exercise of the power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, too often he is playing to the wrong audience. Richard disdains his own populace as a base court (III.iii.180), preferring instead the flattering members of his inner retinue. He seems to envy Bolingbroke his courtship to the common people/How he did seem to dive into their hearts/With humble and familiar courtesy (I.iv.24 6), but would never think to mingle with them. Henry, on the other hand, has learned well from his father s example, as well as from his own experience. In his famous Saint Crispin s Day speech, he inspires his soldiers by proclaiming himself one of them: For he today that sheds his blood with me/Shall be my brother (IV.iii.61 2). It can be assumed that Shakespeare s presentation of the young Prince Hal in the two parts of Henry IV is designed to reinforce this idea of Henry as a man of the people. Hal s youthful escapades have taught him a deep understanding of the human nature of the citizens he must rule, making him wise beyond his years (Rosenblum 133 4). • 18. The Power And Wealth Of The Chaebol As I have stated earlier, the Chaebols have gained significant advantage to become the top class due to government control of the financial system in the 1960s. The power and wealth of the chaebol could be best explained by the music video Gangnam Style , produced by Park Jaesang, who is known as Psy in the video. As of June 2014, on the CNN Entertainment website stated that Gangnam Style has charted a new record: 2 billion YouTube views (Conlon, 2014) and has become the most watched video in YouTube history. The video is enjoyed enormously by the American public, which is kind of puzzling, because many do not know the Korean language, therefore, are unable to understand what the video is really talking about. The video went viral and became a sensation because the main character Psy intentionally ridicules himself by performing exaggerated and bizarre choreographies with beautiful women and expensive garments in the video. A discussion of the Progress made so far in understanding the Genetic Architecture of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia: An Elusive Complex Disorder A discussion of the Progress made so far in understanding the Genetic Architecture of Schizophrenia Mendelian diseases conform to Mendel s laws of genetic inheritance; segregation and independent assortment. Therefore, every pair of alleles in diploid organisms, are separated during meiosis and one allele for every trait is passed onto one of the two daughter cells, independently of all other genes. • 23. The Lost Boys Directed by Joel Schumacher Conversely, Kusserow, instead of using irony or literary images, she forms meaning in her poetry through the use of metaphors. As Tyson states, A metaphor is a comparison of two dissimilar objects in which the properties of one are ascribed to the other (143). Kusserow uses several metaphors throughout her poem to help elucidate the effects of the Second Sudanese Civil Wars on the Lost Boys. Regarding the Lost Boys , the name given to the groups of over 20,000 boys of the Neur and Dinka ethnic groups who were displaced and orphaned during the Second Sudanese Civil War, Kusserow writes, packs of bony Lost Boys / roving like hyenas towards Ethiopia, / tongues, big as toads, swelling in their mouths (15 17). Here, Kusserow has used two zoomorphic metaphors, applying animal characteristics sot humans. She compares the Lost Boys to a hyena, a wild and chaotic animal, depicting the boys as a bunch of mad and violent scavengers, implying that they try to search for and collect anything that can be a source of food for them. Moreover, her comparison in which she describes the tongues of the Boys to be as big as toads, she is illustrating the extreme level of dehydration that the boy s probable experienced, and how their tongues swell up since that is a symptom of dehydration. From Kusserow s use of zoomorphic metaphors, we can see that she is trying to show how the Lost Boys have been dehumanized due to the dreadful condition they have had to face as a product of the Second ... There is a lack of consensus about how imagination and creativity are defined and who is capable of it. In therapeutic contexts, the essence of imagination is the substance of dreams. Dreams, however, are not just images. In dreams, sounds, rhythms, acts, etc. can be perceived in a sensory or experiential way (Levine Levine, 2004). Western traditions narrowly define art as a market oriented specialized discipline (Levine Levine, 2004). When art is used therapeutically, content and meaning take priority over mechanics and technicalities. Creativity and creative process figure prominently in the theories of both Freud and Jung. Freud considers the source and motivation for creativity while Jung focuses on creative process. According to Freud, creativity is rooted in conflicts. The creative process is a response to the need to resolve conflicts. Freud includes daydreams and fantasies in the realm of creative works. They are inner desires, frustrations, or discontent transformed into art, literature, or music. Jung also believes human consciousness provides the content for art, literature and music. He identifies two types of creative processes: psychological and visionary. The psychological mode originates out of the collective unconscious and archetypes. Visionary creative processes are transcendental and universal in both meaning and response. This visionary mode is limited to the gifted few being capable of its expression (Malchiodi, 2007). • 28. Omnipotence Of God God is the almighty, the all powerful, and the creator. The concept of God has intrigued humans since the dawn of time. As a result, the ability to understand Him is necessary. The question, What is God?, has baffled intellectuals throughout history. According to the Oxford Dictionary, God is the creator and ruler of the universe and source of moral authority. However, this definition loosely describes the fundamentals of God himself. In order to accurately define Him, one must go beyond sources like the Bible because it contains refutable miracles to outline the acts of God. To truly define God, one must identify the traits that make God unparalleled. God must be an omniscient and omnipotent, an omnibenevolent, and an omnitemporal being. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By being all knowing, or omniscient, He is able to observe all parts of the universe. This ability is the reason why people believe He is cognizant of whether they have sinned or shown virtue. In order to be all knowing, God must also be all powerful, or omnipotent. Omnipotence allows God to create the universe and control everything within it. Without omniscience and omnipotence, God would be demoted to just a higher order being instead of the perfect being, which would defy the basis for monotheistic beliefs. Likely the most challenging trait for people to understand is God s omnibenevolence: the ability to be completely good. Omnibenevolence suggests His capacity to end all suffering. However, He intentionally allows the path of life to veer away from perfection. This fact stems from the gift of free will. Without free will, life would lose its meaning and thus would be fundamentally imperfect. God s omnibenevolence is to provide a life with meaning. Taking a domestic approach to study gender and sex trafficking, or sex work period in the United States, requires one to know how people do gender while being a part of this industry. Examining the structure of gender in society with regard to sex work and sex trafficking sheds light on how the system works and how it is perpetuated.
