Los Angeles Riots Case Study
Introduction In this new decade where political correctness trumps common sense, civil unrest often
leads to violent unrest.
Los Angeles Riots On March 3, 1991, Rodney King, an African American taxi driver on parole for a
robbery conviction, led two California Highway Patrol Officers, Tim and Melanie Singer (husband
and wife) on a high speed chase on the freeway in Los Angeles, California. He had been drinking
King refused to pull over and reached high speeds. He later said that this was because he didn t want
to get in trouble for violating his parole. During the chase, King drove at speeds from 55 to 88 miles
per hour and several police cars and a helicopter joined the pursuit.

Analysis Of The Psychodynamic Approach
The psychodynamic approach was developed by Sigmund Freud between 1890 and 1930.
Psychodynamic approach in psychology emphasizes on systematic study of the psychological forces
that underline human behaviour , feelings and emotions and how these relate to early experience
(Hill,2001). The basis of this approach is that psychological factors play a major role in determining
behaviour and shaping personality. Freud (1961) divided the human mind into three parts the id, ego
and superego so as to determine and understand the root causes of unusual behaviour. Psychodynamic
approach helps the individual to recognize the unconscious which have an impact on behaviour. As a
result, psychodynamic approach provides a comprehensive framework that describes and explains
human personality (Freud,1925). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, psychodynamic approach helps to focus on childhood past experience and the impact on
present behaviour (Freud,1925). However, the psychodynamic approach is very determinist as it says
that suffering childhood traumas lead to abnormal behaviour in adulthood (Mcleod,2015). As a result
it ignores the influence of genes, biological components and thinking patterns (Freud,1961).
Furthermore, psychoanalysis depends on the therapist interpretation of what the client says. As a result
the concepts can be biased as they are based on the therapist intervention. However, psychodynamic
utilises practical application and optimistic view that helps psychologists to treat mental disorders and
psychological distress (Luyten et al

Basketball Game Analysis
In the year of 2014, I decided that I wanted to play basketball. So then, I tried out for the Oxford Park
Commission basketball team and made it. Soon it was down to our final season and when I was
playing basketball, our team was down by 12 during the first quarter just about to be the second
quarter. I was sitting on the bench waiting for the coach to call my name so that he can put me back in
the game., I knew then that I would be able to help my team win the game, or at least try. I was
already in game mode because I had started off the game with 10 points, 2 steals, and 1 block. While
in the second quarter, I was playing shooting guard and my teammate Syvonte was playing point
guard as we saw each other running down the court. Soon it

2. What evaluative criteria are used in purchasing bikes? Is the country of manufacturer effect
important for mountain bikes?
A. Bicycle consumers evaluate bicycles for their technology to include low weight, durable, stylish,
and performance. Consumers are also concerned about price and service. Also the demographic of
peer ownership will influence consumer purchasing criteria. Clearly the college in Colorado had a few
select brands. Some manufacturers are fortunate to capture these traits within their brand. Trek has
successfully secured 24% of the market and is a respected brand.
B. If Schwinn is able to successfully market mountain biking as truly American than Made in America
will positively impact consumer purchasing. As with automotive purchases, consumers of bicycles are
driven to purchase the product that best meets their needs. Country of origin matters greatly when the
quality is lacking. Schwinn will need to market American made the whole time knowing most of their
bicycle frames are made outside of America.
3. Evaluate Schwinn s downward stretching strategy of selling bikes for prices from $100 to 2,500.

Analysis Of John Keats s The Civil War
Shelby Foote, a southern novelist turned historian, uses the prologue in The Civil War, a three book,
three thousand page epic on America s most seminal moment, to introduce the war s leading figures,
Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis. Foote uses the words of poet John Keats, A fact is not a truth
until you love it. to describe his view on history. Using this axiom, Foote attempts to change the reader
s mind on their understanding of Lincoln and Davis. Not only does he want to prove to us that using
primary sources in his analysis of Lincoln and Davis will give us a better understanding of the two,
but he wants us to appreciate his techniques as well. He juxtaposes the two presidents, providing an
authentic glimpse into their character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
18 19). Lincoln grew up dirt poor in the bare Kentucky frontier, his mother dying when he was nine
years old, and his father having a paltry, insignificant relationship with the young Abraham. Lincoln
quoted Thomas Gray s poem, Elegy, when describing the conditions of his youth, The short and
simple annals of the poor. (pg. 20). As soon as he could, he sought independence from his father and
began life on his own. He eventually settled in New Salem, Illinois where he joined the Debating
Society. As Foote puts it, though at first the charter members snickered at his looks and awkwardness,
presently they were admiring the logic and conciseness of his arguments (pg. 22). One member of the
society claimed all he lacked was culture (pg. 22). Lincoln was respected for his intelligence, but
derided for his social skills and poor background. Certainly this part of Lincoln s life is of the least
importance, but it serves a purpose for Foote, who aims to portray Lincoln in a more vulnerable part
of his life, when he wasn t revered like he would later be, but viewed with pity as a backwoods hick.
This serves as a shock to the reader, disarming us of any romantic notions we have of Lincoln s early
life. Lincoln unquestionably developed into one of the most remarkable men to ever live, but, as Foote
shows us, it took him awhile to reach that status. Alongside politics, Lincoln made a name for himself

Great Expectations And Oliver Twist Analysis
People tend naively see orphans and those without caring families as hopeless and loveless creatures.
However, the goodness of strangers can easily prove these thoughts nonsensical as people can provide
an abundance of support and love to those with no blood relation to them and can embrace strangers
as family. In Charles Dickens two novels Great Expectations and Oliver Twist, Dickens challenges the
typical idea of parentage and suggests the through love and generosity anyone can become a guardian
or mentor figure. Therefore, people should not place as much faith in blood relations and look to
others for sources of guidance and compassion.
Although bloodlines seemed to dictate who raised whom in the 1830s, children could find guidance
through those closest to them regardless of their non familial relationship. In Oliver Twist, Dickens
provides numerous figures to guide poor Oliver, none of which are related to him by blood, excepting
Rose. After falling ill and denounced as a thief, Mr. Brownlow and the housekeeper bestow great
kindness and tender care upon Oliver and nurture him as though he was their child: I have never
forgotten them or his quiet smile, but have seen them every day, side by side with those of my own
children (388). The housekeeper especially gives motherly attention to Oliver although she has no
prior relation to him. She compares Oliver to her memories of her own progeny and therefore blatantly
stands in as a mother figure in Oliver s life. By

The Competitive Advantage Of The Wine Industry
In the world of increasingly global competition every nation want to prove its product as the best in
the world. This phenomenon is called the competitive advantage of the nation, this can only be created
and sustained by immense sense of product knowledge, competition domestically and internationally.
Wine industry is the one which faces the competition between the traditional wine makers of the old
world and the sophisticated wine producers of the New world. The healthy competition among the
producers and suppliers makes the consumers successful by providing the best quality. The Old world
refereed here constitutes the countries in Europe specifically France, Italy and Spain and the New
world refers to US, Chile, Argentina and Australia. France s dominance of the wine industry has
increasingly come under threat from emerging wine producers who are more aggressive in marketing
their product in the markets previously dominated by France. Although France is still the world s
largest wine producer, it has seen a substantial decline in its global sales over the last one decade
arising from a number of factors; some of them internal and others which are external. In this case
study we will be discussing about the Diamond of National advantage and how the determinants
creates the national environment in which the companies compete with respect to the Wine industry.

The Importance Of St. Bernard Of Clairvaux
Proverbs 5:23 says, For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly (NIV). This
statement does not only seem to be the foundation of St. Bernard s teachings, but it is also provides a
glimpse to a life without Christian mysticism. St. Bernard of Clairvaux lived from 1090 1153 AD and
lived as a Cistercian abbot, acting as the mouthpiece for Christian mysticism during the Middle Ages.
Mysticism is defined, The spiritual discipline that enables an individual to experience union with God
or a divine principle (Quinn). Throughout St. Bernard s letters and teachings, he wanted the reader to
grasp the meaning and necessary steps to have an established relationship with Christ. St. Bernard of
Clairvaux was a mediator for Christian Mysticism because his teachings reflected mysticism s values
of discipline, obedience, and selflessness. St. Bernard stressed the importance of discipline, as it is not
only beneficial for someone to strengthen their relationship with Christ, but it is necessary for
someone to discipline themselves in order to draw closer to Christ. St. Bernard says in Some Letters of
Saint Bernard, Abbot of Clairvaux, Thus I have determined to follow him as master always and
everywhere, but on the condition never to deviate from the authority of the Rule, which, as he himself
is witness, I have sworn and determined to keep (St. Bernard). In this excerpt of St. Bernard, he is
illustrating that the person must refrain from things that are

Patricia Piccinini
Genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, virtual realities and online incarnations
of the self are all elements of our globalised, technology saturated world that we are accustomed to. As
a result of these advancements, the question of what constitutes the human has become increasingly
complex, as the traditional boundaries between human and non human have been significantly blurred.
Bio artist Eduardo Kac investigates this post human dilemma by engaging in a new media practice
that incorporates cutting edge genetic science and molecular biology to create what he calls transgenic

The Breathing Room, 1999, responds to sociocultural anxiety associated with the collision of nature
and technology, through three large screens that according to Piccinini depict a fragment of the body, a
vast stretch of breathing skin which signals its mounting pressure through vibrations in the floor. In
this way, Piccinini s ideas about biotechnological advancements are viscerally experienced by the
audience whose sensory experience is heightened by the amplified sound of a small animal scurrying
across a path, heard from the television monitors mounted on the back wall. The computer generated
transgenic animal then runs from screen to screen too rapidly for audiences to observe its mutation,
evoking the dizzying pace at which technology is advancing and the implications of genetic
engineering on the body. By exhibiting her multichannel installation in a black cube where there is no
overt surveillance, perhaps Piccinini is also expressing her concern that we are being kept in the dark
about the long term evolutionary effects of these new technologies, which are not always for the
better. By chronicling the effect of these technological advancements, Piccinini s work provides a
platform for her ideas about the ethical implications of human interference in natural reproductive

Theories Of The Common Sense
Questioning whether or not people make choices seems to be an arbitrary concept to ponder. Common
sense causes one to believe that, of course, humans make choices daily. Even now, common sense
dictates that it is a choice to read this paper or even for this paper to be written at all. However,
according to one form of early philosophy, common sense has led society astray. Each event that
occurs throughout the universe has causation such that one never acts of his or her own free will. This
theory of the absence of free will, known as hard determinism, has three main premises as its basis.
The first premise states that no event is uncaused (Kleinman 64). This appeals to humanity s
practicality; for every force, there is an equal and opposite force. One reaps what he or she sows. What
goes around, comes around. This form of logic demonstrated in the first premise satisfies society s
intrinsic desire for predictability and reason. The second premise then states that if an event is caused,
it must occur; likewise, if it must occur, no other outcome could be achieved. Thus, if every event s
outcome is predetermined through causation, no man can act against it; this tenet makes up the third
and final premise (Kleinman 64). Therefore, based upon these three premises, no man holds the power
of free will. As can be imagined, hard determinism appears to have a few holes in its validity as a
theory. A person, for instance, consciously makes choices each day, such as choices of diet

Suv And Crossover Vehicles Of Cars
SUV and Crossover vehicles are starting to take over the US car market. 2016 is the year of the SUV
and pickup truck. Each month the car sales share of the market slips a bit (NPR, 2016). This means
that sales of your average car are starting to slip. If you pay attention while driving down the road you
may notice this. I believe there are several reasons why this is starting to be the case. SUVs and
Crossover vehicles sit higher than an average commuter or luxury car. They tend to have more space
inside for passengers and cargo. They are starting to rival the fuel economy of cars. Four wheel drive
is a feature available to all of them. Now before I get started I said SUVs and Crossovers. While these
two types of vehicles are broadly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is especially true if a person has to commute long distances to work. A new study by
TrueCar.com finds tooling around in a small SUV is no longer that wasteful. The sales weighted fuel
economy average is only 2 miles per gallon apart (26.83 mpg SUV vs. 28.84 mpg sedan) SUV owners
typically will pay only another $3 more tankful to fill up their SUV compared to a sedan. (USA Today,
2015). Granted those numbers are for a Crossover, However manufactures like Nissan and RAM
Trucks are starting to place small diesel engines in half ton trucks in order to gain fuel economy
without sacrificing payload capability. RAM is claiming to make up to 29 MPG with their small diesel
(I was not able to find fuel economy numbers for the Nissan engine). So it is likely fair to assume that
it is only a matter of time before traditional SUVs get engines of that type. Height is also an apparent
factor in the purchase of these vehicles. People reportedly like the fact that they sit higher than an
average car. It gives people the feeling that they have command of the road . As someone that drives a
full size truck I can confirm that being able to see over the car(s) in front of you does give you a
certain commanding feeling. Driving a low sitting sedan just feels like you are dragging your backside
across the pavement. However I think there may be more to the height factor.

How will the behavior of ten isopods be influenced when given the option between decaying fruit and

Hypothesis If ten isopods are given the option between decaying fruit and vegetables or Quick Oats
and are observed every minute for a five minute time period to study the effect of different food
stimuli on isopod behavior, then the isopods will be drawn towards the decaying fruit and vegetables
because in its natural environment, an isopods diet is mainly composed of decaying plants, grasses,

Internal Conflict In Much Ado About Nothing
In the play Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare, Shakespeare consistently shows that success in
the play comes from balancing external and internal conflict between two protagonists. Much Ado
About Nothing follows the story of the humorous war between Beatrice and Benedick and the love
story of Claudio and Hero. Both external and internal conflict are displayed in Beatrice and Benedick
when they come to the realization that they have unexpected love for each other. Internal and external
conflict makes the play successful because of its balance throughout. Internal and external conflict
throughout the play makes it successful because the audience can relate to the characters in that to find
love within someone else you must go through conflict to create the bond between two people to
create love.
In the first scene of Much Ado about nothing we first see external conflict between Beatrice and
Benedick in Leonato s estate where they continuously exchange witty insults. Benedick goes on to
talk about his way of sleeping around with as many women as he wants and constantly putting
beatrice down. What, my dear Lady Disdain! Are you yet living? This shows external conflict from
Benedick towards Beatrice by insulting her and putting her down. This shows the clear dislike for
Beatrice and that they have a poor relationship between each other and his negative outlook on love.
Lady Disdain is a metaphor that gives Beatrice a title that she is negative and a difficult person.
Beatrice then proceeds to comeback with more witty remarks towards Benedick as a way of showing
her hatred towards Benedick and. I would rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he
loves me . This also shows an external conflict in Beatrice because of her dislike for Benedick and
men in general and would rather stay an independent woman than deal with the dramas and conflict
that come with love. The technique Shakespeare uses in this quote is a contrast. This is done to
emphasis how meaningless love is to her and that she doesn t need love to be happy. External conflict
makes this scene successful because it gives the audience insight on what both the characters are like
and their views on love. It is clear that both Beatrice and

A Theory of Justice Presented by John Rawls Essays
In A Theory of Justice John Rawls presents his argument for justice and inequality. Rawls theorizes
that in the original position, a hypothetical state where people reason without bias, they would agree to
live in a society based on two principles of justice (Rawls 1971, 4). These two principles of justice are
named the first and second principles. The first is the equal rights and liberties principle. The second is
a combination of the difference principle and the fair equality of opportunity principle, or FEOP
(Rawls 1971, 53). Rawls argues that inequality will always be inevitable in any society (Rawls 1971,
7). For example, there will always be a varied distribution of social and economic advantages. Some
people will be wealthier than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, they have no concept of social standing or economic standing. The individuals are just
capable of reasoning and possess the goal of creating a just society (Rawls 1971, 17). The purpose of
the veil is to allow those in the original position to agree on rules pertaining to their own mutual
interests. Rawls thinks that behind the veil of ignorance, free of bias with rational thought, the
individuals would agree to a society governed by his two principles of justice (Rawls 1971, 53).
Individuals would agree to these principles because it would be the only way to ensure a fair initial
status quo in society (Rawls 1971, 53). This is important because it allows for justified inequalities
later that will be regulated instead of unjust inequalities. No one would want to make things unequal
from the start because they have no way of knowing their actual place in society behind the veil
(Rawls 1971, 11). For example, if someone suggested that all UCR students get free tuition at the cost
of students at other universities footing the bill, it would be within the individuals best interest to
disagree because he has no way of knowing if he is a UCR student in the society or one of the other
university students that now have to pay more. The idea of the original position is that a just society
would be fair and equal, and individuals behind the veil of ignorance would agree on Rawls two
principles of justice to make it so. Rawls s first principle

Article Review On Online Gambling Legalization
Article 5 Is Donald Trump key to US online gambling legalisation?
He spent years discussing his presidential aspirations, even once saying that he would fund former
Minnesota Governor and ex professional wrestler Jesse Ventura s campaign should he ever want to run
for the top spot. But now it seems that Donald Trump is backing up the talk by putting his name on the
ballot paper and running for president. While his chances of reaching the White House are slim at
best, it has given the outspoken businessman and TV star a new platform to air his views. The
Republican Party is fighting tooth and nail to stop Trump s momentum but that stats don t lie, he is
certainly working to win over the US public. Trump has been quick to address ... Show more content

This makes the online gambling field a great source of profit for Trump, which is probably why it has
become a hot talking point within not only his campaign but throughout online casino portals around
the world.
It seems great that Trump has made the issue of online gambling legislation so prominent, but it could
possibly prove to be negative in many ways. Trump is a man known for his abrasive and controversial
personality, giving him the reputation of being explosive from a political standpoint. There are some
who believe that by behaving in the way he does that he is actually hindering the chances of online
gambling ever being legalized in the United States. This is because there is every chance that because
of his nature many will oppose simply out of dislike of Trump simply to make a point. It isn t just that
either, Sheldon Adelson, a fellow gambling mogul, but one that opposes online gambling, could look
to ramp up his anti online gambling efforts simply to give Trump more to deal with during his
campaign.
Whichever way you look at situation, Donald Trump could very way play a key role in how the online
casino legalisation story unfolds in the United States. Should his presidential campaign gather real
momentum, whether he makes it into office or not, he will have an increased influence from a political
standpoint moving forward. However, should his campaign truly fall flat, then there is every chance
that objectors will be able to shut down the

What Is Socrates Argument For The Soul s Immortality
On the day of Socrates execution, conducted by the state of Athens, he has a number of friends and
philosophers join him in his cell to discuss his perceptions on death and his soul in the afterlife.
During his final conversation preceding his passing, Socrates presents four arguments for the soul s
immortality and suggests that each genuine philosopher should not be fearful of death, but should
instead look forward to it. While I agree with Socrates on the premise that the soul is immortal, I do
not feel that any of his arguments are sufficient enough to prove this belief to be true. Plato s Phaedo
allegedly recounts these events and departing conversations with Socrates. Socrates first argument
regarding the soul s immortality focuses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soul is and always will be indestructible (106e). He believes that every single new life created
came from the death of another life. Socrates does not go into many specifics with this point, as he
poses his belief as a closing testimony to his life. In addition, none of the bystanders argue against his
final argument, as they realize that this is the last of Socrates. If one is intended to believe that
Socrates means any form of life and any form of death, then I fully support his four arguments in
totality and would take back all of my previous claims. However, he doesn t openly say that the
transmigration of the soul reaches beyond humans and into animals or other living organisms. For this
reason, his fourth argument is rather unnecessary and is repetitive. Socrates fails to bring any new
knowledge to the table, and is simply reiterating points that he made in his previous three arguments.
It seems that he has ran out of justifications for his beliefs, so he finalizes with his main point all along
instead of presenting a new argument. I applaud Socrates for this, as he wants his peers to realize that
he believes his soul will live on and that is all that should matter for him on the day of his death. For
this reason, I do not have any negative things to say, other than it not being obligatory, about Socrates

Analysis Of Anne Bradstreet And Edward Taylor
Anne Bradstreet and Edward Taylor are two of the most distinguished and fervent Puritan poets. Yet
this similarity has proven to be one of the few, if not only between these two. One cannot help but find
it intriguing that poets who belong to the same religious group and style would write so differently.
Many of these differences are not even subtle or hidden beneath the text itself. The differences
themselves hold implications and ideas that differ between each poet. The first difference which is the
most obvious would be the style of each respected poet. Every poet has a unique style, but generally
those who belong to the same period or set of ideas have similar styles. Between Bradstreet and Taylor
there are no similarities in style. Taylor can be considered a much more polished poet. Taylor s poetry
is full of poetic techniques and advanced styling tools such as the iambic meter and advanced rhyming
schemes. This style can be seen as the norm for a highly educated preacher which Taylor was.
Bradstreet on the other hand has a more simplistic style that can be seen as the voice of the common
or average Puritan. Therefore, there is far less ornamentation in her poetry. If one compares the
Bradstreet s Here Follows Some Verses Upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666. and Taylor s

diction while tackling the topic of her burning house. She uses simple and

Why Do People Have A Near Death Experience
Have you ever had a near death experience? Did you notice any changes in yourself or things around
you? Many people have noticed monumental changes after their near death experiences. No matter the
degree of danger, they still realized common things. A near death experience can transform one s
personal life and beliefs. Most people who have had near death experiences have five things in
common: changes in priority, time slows down, not realizing they made a choice with their actions, and
things turned unexpectedly dangerous quickly.
Many people who have experienced near death experiences have had a change in priorities such as
Tom Benecke, Patrick Daniels, and Scott Lear. Before Tom Benecke had his near death experience, his
main priority was finishing his work instead of spending time with his wife. After he almost fell from
a ledge that was outside his window, he realized that he was putting things before his wife and decided

Pet Wearables And Connected Device Technology
Abstract Every year circuit boards and sensors become smaller and more affordable for entrepreneurs
around the world to freely innovate new technologies. Although many of these new technologies are
designed to directly interact with humans, some people are adapting this technology to address the
needs of working canines. These new devices are then being modified to meet the needs of the regular
pet dog owner. New devices for pet dogs cover everything from identification, tracking, vital sign
monitoring, video cameras and environmental temperature fluctuations to algorithms that translate tail
wags and eventually even brain waves into emotions that can be relayed to the owner. Our own
smartphones allow most of these innovations to connect owners with their dogs wearables by the use
of applications. As technology continues to advance, we will continue to see it being used to help
connect owners with their pet dogs. These technologies help owners to have peace of mind and
veterinarians have access to health and activity data that would otherwise not be observable at routine
examinations. Technology and Your Dog:
Pet Wearables and Connected Device Technology
Introduction
The purpose of this research is to provide awareness for upcoming technologies as they pertain to
dogs. The use of computers, smartphones and applications are a part of everyday lives in first world

Death by Landscape and the Canadian Identity Essay
Death by Landscape Death by Landscape shows subtle, but nonetheless significant, qualities regarding
Canadian culture. The author (Margaret Atwood) uses Canadian landscape, Native culture, and
character attributes to symbolize the Canadian identity. The struggle between Native Canadians and
European Canadians to define what makes somebody Canadian is a major theme in this story. The
historically inaccurate depiction of Native practices, as well as the less than flattering depiction of
Native people, is an all too real issue which is alluded to in this story. Another major reference to
Canadian identity is the depiction of the differences between Americans and Canadians. The
characters, Lucy and Lois, symbolize Americans and Canadians. ... Show more content on

So they have created extreme renditions of Native peoples both negative and positive. Negative, so
that they themselves can feel superior by comparison. Positive so that they can have something to
conform to. A truly Canadian ceremony that they feel their ancestors may have lacked. The use of
exaggerated Native practices enriches the story, because it triggers a feeling of distaste with Lois as
well as the reader. However, they also bring up an unspoken conflict within the Canadian identity
between Native and European culture. The use of these practices demonstrates the need for European
Canadians to both mock and Emulate Native practices. A major focus of this story is the Canadian
landscape, and how it affects its residents. It is an accurate demonstration of how nature affects the
Canadian identity. The Canadian wilderness becomes a part of Lois through the tragedy that has
occurred. Although she realizes it late, the landscape of the wild has become a part of her personal
identity. As she ages, Lois slowly becomes more aware of her obsession with the Canadian wilderness.
This quotation demonstrates her recognition, at the beginning of the story, of her relationship with the
Canadian wilderness. #4 In this passage, Lois realizes the affect of her husband s death and the aging
of her children has had on her. She has become less distracted by every day activities and has more
time to reflect upon

Walmart Management And Strategy Of Walmart Essay
In 2014, Walmart announced a new president and CEO, Doug McMillion. McMillion had the duty of
taking over the world s largest company in respect to revenue, $473 billion, and the world s largest
private employer, 2.2 million associates. As it turned out, under McMillion s leadership, in 2015
Walmart experienced the first decline in its annual sales ever. Many people had predicted that Walmart
s better days had been behind them when McMillion became president. As a result of this decline in
annual sales, people questioned whether or not Walmart could return to the usual type of growth in
sales it had essentially earned every year since it s founding in 1962. To answer this question, some
possibly issues with the management and strategy of Walmart s business needed to be looked at in
depth. Some of these most important issues included: the recent increase in retail sales of the online
market compared to the discount retailer market, the state of Walmart s international business, and the
lacking performance of Walmart s Discount Store, SAM s Clubs, and Neighborhood Markets
compared to their Supercenters. In this case analysis, we will include some possible resolutions that
will help Walmart with these issues and possibly allow them to begin growing their annual sales once
again. This plan will not stray from Sam Walton s Ten Rules for Building a Business, which set
Walmart apart from its competitors from its early stages. Before explaining these ideas of
improvement, we will

The Information Processing Model ( Woolfolk And Margetts...
Briefly, describe a past academic (school or tertiary) learning experience that you found difficult. With
specific reference to the relevant elements of the Information Processing Model (as described in
lecture and in Woolfolk and Margetts 2016), explain why you found the learning situation difficult.
What strategies, drawn from the readings and lecture, would you now put in place to improve such a
situation if you faced it again in the future.
This essay will briefly describe a past academic learning experience that I found difficult. I will use
elements of the Information Processing Model (Woolfolk Margetts, 2016) to help explain why the
difficulties occurred and to uncover different strategies that could be put in place if ever I was to face
this, and other situations again.
The past learning experience that I found difficult was a speech assignment at high school when I was
14 years old. It wasn t just the presenting but the process of researching and having to write a 30
minute speech for an internal English assignment. I found it hard and it ended with me failing.
Our five senses are constantly being battered by new sights, sounds and smells from the environment.
For us to make appreciate these senses, there is an initial process that transforms these new sensations
or information it s called sensory memory (Woolfolk Margetts 2016). I would describe it as a
temporary holding cell that stores new sensations to allow processing to take place.

Three Mile Island Essay
Three Mile Island
On March 28, 1979 a series of mechanical, electrical, and human failures led to what has been
described as the worst nuclear power plant accident in the history of the United States. News of the
accident rocked the nation, and its effects were keenly felt by those who lived in the shadow of the
great concrete towers of Three Mile Island.
The accident began about 4:00 a.m. on March 28, 1979, when there was failure in the secondary, non
nuclear section of the plant. The main feedwater pumps stopped running, which was caused by either a
mechanical or electrical failure that prevented the steam generators from removing heat. First the
turbine, then the reactor automatically shut down. Then the pressure in the primary ... Show more

Because of these voids, the water in the system was redistributed and the pressurizer became full of
water. The level indicator, which tells the operator the amount of coolant capable of heat removal,
incorrectly showed the system was full of water. Because of this the operator stopped adding water.
He did not know that, because of the stuck valve, the indicator can provided false readings.
Because adequate cooling was not available, the nuclear fuel overheated to the point where some of
the zirconium cladding, the long metal tubes or jackets which hold the nuclear fuel pellets reacted with
the water and created hydrogen. This hydrogen was released into the reactor containment building. By
March 30, two days after the start of the chain of events, some hydrogen remained in the primary
coolant system in the vessel surrounding the reactor, forming a hydrogen bubble above the reactor
core. Officials were concerned that if reactor pressure decreased, the hydrogen bubble would expand
and therefore interfere with the flow of cooling water through the core. Over the next few days, the
bubble was reduced by degassing the pressurizer, meaning they adjusting air and water pressure.
Without water to cool it, and with the top of the reactor core uncovered, the main damage to the
reactor occurred two to three hours into the accident. Although no meltdown occurred, in

  • 12. Great Expectations And Oliver Twist Analysis People tend naively see orphans and those without caring families as hopeless and loveless creatures. However, the goodness of strangers can easily prove these thoughts nonsensical as people can provide an abundance of support and love to those with no blood relation to them and can embrace strangers as family. In Charles Dickens two novels Great Expectations and Oliver Twist, Dickens challenges the typical idea of parentage and suggests the through love and generosity anyone can become a guardian or mentor figure. Therefore, people should not place as much faith in blood relations and look to others for sources of guidance and compassion. Although bloodlines seemed to dictate who raised whom in the 1830s, children could find guidance through those closest to them regardless of their non familial relationship. In Oliver Twist, Dickens provides numerous figures to guide poor Oliver, none of which are related to him by blood, excepting Rose. After falling ill and denounced as a thief, Mr. Brownlow and the housekeeper bestow great kindness and tender care upon Oliver and nurture him as though he was their child: I have never forgotten them or his quiet smile, but have seen them every day, side by side with those of my own children (388). The housekeeper especially gives motherly attention to Oliver although she has no prior relation to him. She compares Oliver to her memories of her own progeny and therefore blatantly stands in as a mother figure in Oliver s life. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This statement does not only seem to be the foundation of St. Bernard s teachings, but it is also provides a glimpse to a life without Christian mysticism. St. Bernard of Clairvaux lived from 1090 1153 AD and lived as a Cistercian abbot, acting as the mouthpiece for Christian mysticism during the Middle Ages. Mysticism is defined, The spiritual discipline that enables an individual to experience union with God or a divine principle (Quinn). Throughout St. Bernard s letters and teachings, he wanted the reader to grasp the meaning and necessary steps to have an established relationship with Christ. St. Bernard of Clairvaux was a mediator for Christian Mysticism because his teachings reflected mysticism s values of discipline, obedience, and selflessness. St. Bernard stressed the importance of discipline, as it is not only beneficial for someone to strengthen their relationship with Christ, but it is necessary for someone to discipline themselves in order to draw closer to Christ. St. Bernard says in Some Letters of Saint Bernard, Abbot of Clairvaux, Thus I have determined to follow him as master always and everywhere, but on the condition never to deviate from the authority of the Rule, which, as he himself is witness, I have sworn and determined to keep (St. Bernard). Bio artist Eduardo Kac investigates this post human dilemma by engaging in a new media practice that incorporates cutting edge genetic science and molecular biology to create what he calls transgenic art (Kac, 2009). • 16. Theories Of The Common Sense Questioning whether or not people make choices seems to be an arbitrary concept to ponder. Common sense causes one to believe that, of course, humans make choices daily. Even now, common sense dictates that it is a choice to read this paper or even for this paper to be written at all. However, according to one form of early philosophy, common sense has led society astray. Each event that occurs throughout the universe has causation such that one never acts of his or her own free will. This theory of the absence of free will, known as hard determinism, has three main premises as its basis. The first premise states that no event is uncaused (Kleinman 64). This appeals to humanity s practicality; for every force, there is an equal and opposite force. One reaps what he or she sows. What goes around, comes around. This form of logic demonstrated in the first premise satisfies society s intrinsic desire for predictability and reason. The second premise then states that if an event is caused, it must occur; likewise, if it must occur, no other outcome could be achieved. Thus, if every event s outcome is predetermined through causation, no man can act against it; this tenet makes up the third and final premise (Kleinman 64). Therefore, based upon these three premises, no man holds the power of free will. As can be imagined, hard determinism appears to have a few holes in its validity as a theory. A person, for instance, consciously makes choices each day, such as choices of diet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each month the car sales share of the market slips a bit (NPR, 2016). This means that sales of your average car are starting to slip. If you pay attention while driving down the road you may notice this. I believe there are several reasons why this is starting to be the case. SUVs and Crossover vehicles sit higher than an average commuter or luxury car. They tend to have more space inside for passengers and cargo. They are starting to rival the fuel economy of cars. The sales weighted fuel economy average is only 2 miles per gallon apart (26.83 mpg SUV vs. 28.84 mpg sedan) SUV owners typically will pay only another $3 more tankful to fill up their SUV compared to a sedan. (USA Today, 2015). Granted those numbers are for a Crossover, However manufactures like Nissan and RAM Trucks are starting to place small diesel engines in half ton trucks in order to gain fuel economy without sacrificing payload capability. RAM is claiming to make up to 29 MPG with their small diesel (I was not able to find fuel economy numbers for the Nissan engine). So it is likely fair to assume that it is only a matter of time before traditional SUVs get engines of that type. Height is also an apparent factor in the purchase of these vehicles. As someone that drives a full size truck I can confirm that being able to see over the car(s) in front of you does give you a certain commanding feeling. Hypothesis If ten isopods are given the option between decaying fruit and vegetables or Quick Oats and are observed every minute for a five minute time period to study the effect of different food stimuli on isopod behavior, then the isopods will be drawn towards the decaying fruit and vegetables because in its natural environment, an isopods diet is mainly composed of decaying plants, grasses, and foliage, meaning that the isopods will prefer the decaying fruit and vegetables over the Quick Oats as it is most similar to their natural diet. • 22. Internal Conflict In Much Ado About Nothing In the play Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare, Shakespeare consistently shows that success in the play comes from balancing external and internal conflict between two protagonists. Much Ado About Nothing follows the story of the humorous war between Beatrice and Benedick and the love story of Claudio and Hero. Both external and internal conflict are displayed in Beatrice and Benedick when they come to the realization that they have unexpected love for each other. Internal and external conflict makes the play successful because of its balance throughout. Internal and external conflict throughout the play makes it successful because the audience can relate to the characters in that to find love within someone else you must go through conflict to create the bond between two people to create love. In the first scene of Much Ado about nothing we first see external conflict between Beatrice and Benedick in Leonato s estate where they continuously exchange witty insults. Benedick goes on to talk about his way of sleeping around with as many women as he wants and constantly putting beatrice down. What, my dear Lady Disdain! Are you yet living? This shows external conflict from Benedick towards Beatrice by insulting her and putting her down. This shows the clear dislike for Beatrice and that they have a poor relationship between each other and his negative outlook on love. Lady Disdain is a metaphor that gives Beatrice a title that she is negative and a difficult person. Beatrice then proceeds to comeback with more witty remarks towards Benedick as a way of showing her hatred towards Benedick and. I would rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves me . This also shows an external conflict in Beatrice because of her dislike for Benedick and men in general and would rather stay an independent woman than deal with the dramas and conflict that come with love. The technique Shakespeare uses in this quote is a contrast. This is done to emphasis how meaningless love is to her and that she doesn t need love to be happy. External conflict makes this scene successful because it gives the audience insight on what both the characters are like and their views on love. It is clear that both Beatrice and ... Rawls theorizes that in the original position, a hypothetical state where people reason without bias, they would agree to live in a society based on two principles of justice (Rawls 1971, 4). These two principles of justice are named the first and second principles. The first is the equal rights and liberties principle. The second is a combination of the difference principle and the fair equality of opportunity principle, or FEOP (Rawls 1971, 53). Rawls thinks that behind the veil of ignorance, free of bias with rational thought, the individuals would agree to a society governed by his two principles of justice (Rawls 1971, 53). Individuals would agree to these principles because it would be the only way to ensure a fair initial status quo in society (Rawls 1971, 53). This is important because it allows for justified inequalities later that will be regulated instead of unjust inequalities. No one would want to make things unequal from the start because they have no way of knowing their actual place in society behind the veil (Rawls 1971, 11). For example, if someone suggested that all UCR students get free tuition at the cost of students at other universities footing the bill, it would be within the individuals best interest to disagree because he has no way of knowing if he is a UCR student in the society or one of the other university students that now have to pay more. However, he doesn t openly say that the transmigration of the soul reaches beyond humans and into animals or other living organisms. For this reason, his fourth argument is rather unnecessary and is repetitive. Socrates fails to bring any new knowledge to the table, and is simply reiterating points that he made in his previous three arguments. Students who want to experiment with different subjects and classes have the option of choosing to study in the US. Globally, no country offers such a wide range of flexibility and programs. Students who wish to study in the US have the opportunity to choose a course that matches their future aspirations. The international students also have the ability to pursue some of the most innovative programs offered and interact with globally recognized scholars who tutor them throughout their years of study. The programs are also tailored to meet the demands of the job market, thereby enabling the international students to leave college while having the requisite skills required for the job. Owing to a large number of courses available for the international students, they have an option of choosing the kind of college experience they want. Such considerations include the location of the college or university, the type of accommodation, the sports programs and facilities available among others (Florea). The availability of a diverse range of programs implies that the classes often have few students with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Information Processing Model ( Woolfolk And Margetts... Briefly, describe a past academic (school or tertiary) learning experience that you found difficult. With specific reference to the relevant elements of the Information Processing Model (as described in lecture and in Woolfolk and Margetts 2016), explain why you found the learning situation difficult. What strategies, drawn from the readings and lecture, would you now put in place to improve such a situation if you faced it again in the future. This essay will briefly describe a past academic learning experience that I found difficult. I will use elements of the Information Processing Model (Woolfolk Margetts, 2016) to help explain why the difficulties occurred and to uncover different strategies that could be put in place if ever I was to face this, and other situations again. The past learning experience that I found difficult was a speech assignment at high school when I was 14 years old. It wasn t just the presenting but the process of researching and having to write a 30 minute speech for an internal English assignment. I found it hard and it ended with me failing. Our five senses are constantly being battered by new sights, sounds and smells from the environment. For us to make appreciate these senses, there is an initial process that transforms these new sensations or information it s called sensory memory (Woolfolk Margetts 2016). I would describe it as a temporary holding cell that stores new sensations to allow processing to take place. In relation to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Three Mile Island Essay Three Mile Island On March 28, 1979 a series of mechanical, electrical, and human failures led to what has been described as the worst nuclear power plant accident in the history of the United States. News of the accident rocked the nation, and its effects were keenly felt by those who lived in the shadow of the great concrete towers of Three Mile Island. The accident began about 4:00 a.m. on March 28, 1979, when there was failure in the secondary, non nuclear section of the plant. The main feedwater pumps stopped running, which was caused by either a mechanical or electrical failure that prevented the steam generators from removing heat. First the turbine, then the reactor automatically shut down. Then the pressure in the primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of these voids, the water in the system was redistributed and the pressurizer became full of water. The level indicator, which tells the operator the amount of coolant capable of heat removal, incorrectly showed the system was full of water. Because of this the operator stopped adding water. He did not know that, because of the stuck valve, the indicator can provided false readings. Because adequate cooling was not available, the nuclear fuel overheated to the point where some of the zirconium cladding, the long metal tubes or jackets which hold the nuclear fuel pellets reacted with the water and created hydrogen. This hydrogen was released into the reactor containment building. By March 30, two days after the start of the chain of events, some hydrogen remained in the primary coolant system in the vessel surrounding the reactor, forming a hydrogen bubble above the reactor core. Officials were concerned that if reactor pressure decreased, the hydrogen bubble would expand and therefore interfere with the flow of cooling water through the core. Over the next few days, the bubble was reduced by degassing the pressurizer, meaning they adjusting air and water pressure. Without water to cool it, and with the top of the reactor core uncovered, the main damage to the reactor occurred two to three hours into the accident. Although no meltdown occurred, in ...
