Virginia Woolf s The Death Of A Moth
Even though I tend to like the gory nature of a gruesome death, I don t favor Dillard s piece over
Woolf s. I ask myself why that is? Why do I prefer Virginia Woolf s The Death of the Moth to Annie
Dillard s The Death of a Moth? The answer I conclude, is that I have biographical knowledge of one
over the other. The personal background on Woolf allows me to better understand the writer and, thus,
the possible meaning of the piece. I will read and interpret what I believe a piece is about, but I like to

Internal Conflict In Much Ado About Nothing
In the play Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare, Shakespeare consistently shows that success in
the play comes from balancing external and internal conflict between two protagonists. Much Ado
About Nothing follows the story of the humorous war between Beatrice and Benedick and the love
story of Claudio and Hero. Both external and internal conflict are displayed in Beatrice and Benedick
when they come to the realization that they have unexpected love for each other. Internal and external
conflict makes the play successful because of its balance throughout. Internal and external conflict
throughout the play makes it successful because the audience can relate to the characters in that to find
love within someone else you must go through conflict to create the bond between two people to
create love.
In the first scene of Much Ado about nothing we first see external conflict between Beatrice and
Benedick in Leonato s estate where they continuously exchange witty insults. Benedick goes on to
talk about his way of sleeping around with as many women as he wants and constantly putting
beatrice down. What, my dear Lady Disdain! Are you yet living? This shows external conflict from
Benedick towards Beatrice by insulting her and putting her down. This shows the clear dislike for
Beatrice and that they have a poor relationship between each other and his negative outlook on love.
Lady Disdain is a metaphor that gives Beatrice a title that she is negative and a difficult person.
Beatrice then proceeds to comeback with more witty remarks towards Benedick as a way of showing
her hatred towards Benedick and. I would rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he
loves me . This also shows an external conflict in Beatrice because of her dislike for Benedick and
men in general and would rather stay an independent woman than deal with the dramas and conflict
that come with love. The technique Shakespeare uses in this quote is a contrast. This is done to
emphasis how meaningless love is to her and that she doesn t need love to be happy. External conflict
makes this scene successful because it gives the audience insight on what both the characters are like

In A Theory of Justice John Rawls presents his argument for justice and inequality. Rawls theorizes
that in the original position, a hypothetical state where people reason without bias, they would agree to
live in a society based on two principles of justice (Rawls 1971, 4). These two principles of justice are
named the first and second principles. The first is the equal rights and liberties principle. The second is
a combination of the difference principle and the fair equality of opportunity principle, or FEOP

capable of reasoning and possess the goal of creating a just society (Rawls 1971, 17). The purpose of
the veil is to allow those in the original position to agree on rules pertaining to their own mutual
interests. Rawls thinks that behind the veil of ignorance, free of bias with rational thought, the
individuals would agree to a society governed by his two principles of justice (Rawls 1971, 53).
Individuals would agree to these principles because it would be the only way to ensure a fair initial

later that will be regulated instead of unjust inequalities. No one would want to make things unequal
from the start because they have no way of knowing their actual place in society behind the veil

of students at other universities footing the bill, it would be within the individuals best interest to
disagree because he has no way of knowing if he is a UCR student in the society or one of the other

On the day of Socrates execution, conducted by the state of Athens, he has a number of friends and
philosophers join him in his cell to discuss his perceptions on death and his soul in the afterlife.

The soul is and always will be indestructible (106e). He believes that every single new life created
came from the death of another life. Socrates does not go into many specifics with this point, as he
poses his belief as a closing testimony to his life. In addition, none of the bystanders argue against his
final argument, as they realize that this is the last of Socrates. If one is intended to believe that
Socrates means any form of life and any form of death, then I fully support his four arguments in
totality and would take back all of my previous claims. However, he doesn t openly say that the

this similarity has proven to be one of the few, if not only between these two. One cannot help but find

Briefly, describe a past academic (school or tertiary) learning experience that you found difficult. With
specific reference to the relevant elements of the Information Processing Model (as described in
lecture and in Woolfolk and Margetts 2016), explain why you found the learning situation difficult.
What strategies, drawn from the readings and lecture, would you now put in place to improve such a
situation if you faced it again in the future.
This essay will briefly describe a past academic learning experience that I found difficult. I will use
elements of the Information Processing Model (Woolfolk Margetts, 2016) to help explain why the
difficulties occurred and to uncover different strategies that could be put in place if ever I was to face
this, and other situations again.
The past learning experience that I found difficult was a speech assignment at high school when I was
14 years old. It wasn t just the presenting but the process of researching and having to write a 30
minute speech for an internal English assignment. I found it hard and it ended with me failing.
Our five senses are constantly being battered by new sights, sounds and smells from the environment.
For us to make appreciate these senses, there is an initial process that transforms these new sensations
or information it s called sensory memory (Woolfolk Margetts 2016). I would describe it as a
temporary holding cell that stores new sensations to allow processing to take place.

described as the worst nuclear power plant accident in the history of the United States. News of the
accident rocked the nation, and its effects were keenly felt by those who lived in the shadow of the
great concrete towers of Three Mile Island.
The accident began about 4:00 a.m. on March 28, 1979, when there was failure in the secondary, non
nuclear section of the plant. The main feedwater pumps stopped running, which was caused by either a
mechanical or electrical failure that prevented the steam generators from removing heat. First the

Because of these voids, the water in the system was redistributed and the pressurizer became full of
water. The level indicator, which tells the operator the amount of coolant capable of heat removal,
incorrectly showed the system was full of water. Because of this the operator stopped adding water.
He did not know that, because of the stuck valve, the indicator can provided false readings.
Because adequate cooling was not available, the nuclear fuel overheated to the point where some of
the zirconium cladding, the long metal tubes or jackets which hold the nuclear fuel pellets reacted with
the water and created hydrogen. This hydrogen was released into the reactor containment building. By
March 30, two days after the start of the chain of events, some hydrogen remained in the primary
coolant system in the vessel surrounding the reactor, forming a hydrogen bubble above the reactor
core. Officials were concerned that if reactor pressure decreased, the hydrogen bubble would expand
and therefore interfere with the flow of cooling water through the core. Over the next few days, the
bubble was reduced by degassing the pressurizer, meaning they adjusting air and water pressure.
Without water to cool it, and with the top of the reactor core uncovered, the main damage to the
