Bill Mckay In The Candidate
During the film, The Candidate, there are two men running against each other for the position of U.S
Senator. The democrat, Bill McKay, is the son of popular ex governor John J. McKay who s a
candidate for the U.S. Senate from California. He has no hope of winning, but he s interested in giving
his opponent a run for his money. He competes against Crocker Jarmon, a popular and well aged
Republican, who seems to have all his ducks in a row. McKay was asked to run by a political
consultant, Marvin Lucas, looking for someone to ruffle up Jarmon s feathers, who is in it only for the
money. This becomes a very remarkable competition due to the fact they re two different people. Bill
is a young, attractive candidate who started doing this just because ... Show more content on

His father rushed in and said Congratulations, son, you re officially a politician. This had a lot of
significance and relevance to the story because his father was the ex governor. It seems as if he is
happy for his son to be following in his footsteps and joining the world of politics. I also found this
ironic due to the fact he said politician as if politicians weren t normal people like you and I. Bill
seemed a little scared by that term, probably because he saw what it did to his father and doesn t want
that to translate to his life. All in all Bill appeared very shocked that he had won the election, which
shows he wasn t confident in his campaign. At the end, his campaign manager asks what they will do
now and Bill has a look uncertainty. He must figure out where he needs to start off because he will
now be the United States Senator. McKay was only running for a short period of time and his vibrant
personality was weakened and he becomes the cookie cutter candidate he hoped not to be. His good
looks and charms may have won him the election, but it s not going to save him from the everyday

The Road By Cormac Mccarthy, Ray Bradbury, And 1984
Dystopian fiction is an alternate society characterized by a focus on that which is contrary to the
author s ethos, portraying it as mass poverty, public mistrust, police state, or oppression. This genre
was chosen because it allows for readers to feel better and thankful for our society s current state. The
works that I used to investigate this genre were The Road by Cormac McCarthy, Fahrenheit 451 by
Ray Bradbury, and 1984 by George Orwell. All of these books are categorized in the dystopian genre
but have very different symbols, styles, and implications. Each of these novels have different styles
because some include a society with overbearing rules, such as Fahrenheit 451 and 1984, whereas The
Road has virtually no society. Despite their differences, the purpose of these novels is to demonstrate
that the only thing strong enough to conquer a corrupt and inhumane society is through true love and
passion. Dystopian fiction first came about in the early 1900 s and is read by many as political
warnings. Many authors of dystopian fiction explore at least one reason why things are the way the are
in the novel, which is used as an analogy for similar issues in the real world. One of the first well
known dystopian novels was We written by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1921. It predicted a post apocalyptic
future in which society is entirely based on logic and modeled after mechanical systems. Shortly after
came George Orwell s 1984, a very well known book that is one of the books used

Essay on The Action of Ans-Related Drugs on Smooth Muscle
The action of ANS related drugs on smooth muscle
Introduction
In the following experiment, the key objective is to compare the mechanical changes in tonic force by
longitudinal smooth muscle after the addition of different concentrations of the drugs noradrenaline
and acetylcholine. Peristalsis is the wave of muscle contractions that allow circular muscles to
constrict the gut and longitudinal muscles to shorten it in an attempt to move the food bolus towards
the rectum. A series of dilutions were prepared for both drugs to deduce the effect this would have on
the contractions of the mammalian gut. These were added, in turn, to Ringers solution containing the
gut (a solution resembling blood serum in its salt constituents used for ... Show more content on

It is distinguishable that when acetylcholine is added, the tonic force in the gut increases as the
concentration increases. This is especially true at higher concentrations of acetylcholine, eg at a
concentration of 1x10 5, the tonic force of the gut was 12.6mN. Conversely, at higher concentrations
of Noradrenaline the tonic force in the gut decreases. The gut does not show any change in tonic force
at lower concentrations, there is minimal or no change which can be determined from the graph. The
tonic force of the gut at the highest concentration of 10 5 was 4mN which is significantly lower in
comparison to what acetylcholine portrayed. So as concentration of noradrenaline increases, the tonic
force in the gut decreases whilst as concentration of acetylcholine increases, the tonic force of the gut
also increases.
Discussion
1) The results obtained demonstrate that increasing concentration of acetylcholine increases tonic
tension in the section of gut, conversely increasing noradrenaline concentration decreases tonic
tension of the gut.
2) Both drugs do not influence the rate of rhythmic contractions yet they alter force and peak. The rate
should remain fairly constant as it signifies the transmission of impulses being sent from the nervous
system, any slowing in rate would suggest deprivation of nerve supply yet this is not the case as the
same gut is used for both drugs and all concentrations.
3) The amplitude

The Process And Importance Of Socialization
Hailey Bryan
Dr. Michael Flota
SYG 2000 Online
June 2, 2017 The Process and Importance of Socialization in Children:
Socialization is the process through which an individual learns to become a functional member of
society. Through socialization, one learns their cultures language, their role in life, what is expected
from them, and what is considered acceptable behavior. Social interaction provides crucial sensory
stimulation, which then leads to the creation of short and long term memories. These memories are
important because they reinforce behaviors or actions in new social situations. Another important part
of the process of socialization is cognitive development, also referred to as modeling (Bandura, ...

It continues from birth until death. We are continuously being molded into a social creature, and
learning the social ways of acting and feeling. Without the process of molding, society could not
continue, nor would culture exist, nor could an individual become a person. Every person constantly
has to adjust themselves to be accepted by the society of which they are a member of. If they fail to do
so, they re labeled a social deviant and will be put back in line by the efforts of society. Socialization
is constantly reinforced all throughout our lifetime, not solely through just our parents and teachers,
but also through authority figures, messages from institutions, media, and our culture. Socialization
has a significant impact on the way that children perceive themselves when they are younger and
usually continues to affect them as they grow into adulthood. Thus, sometimes resulting in this
defiant, uncontrollable behavior. Children are born into this world without any knowledge of the
social culture. They must go through a long sociological developmental process in which parents and
other influences, attempt to transform them into socially competent individuals. So, what would a
human be like if raised in isolation? There is plenty of evidence that suggests if humans were raised in
extreme isolation, that they would lack many of the features that we generally identify as human.
Without socialization, children cannot and will

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Essay
I do not purport to condone the recall of Volkswagen Passenger Cars; what they did was wrong; and
objectively they deserve a swift and severe punishment. However, the media s response to dieselgate
is an excessive overreaction. First of all, we cannot go around adding the gate suffix haphazardly to
every transgression and gaucherie. Bob Bernstein and Carl Woodward worked for over a year trying to
piece together the Watergate controversy. They risked everything for it: jobs, reputation and even their
lives. There should be perspective on this controversy, diesel Volkswagen Passenger Cars having
devices designed to cheat emissions tests did not and will not ever result in (arguably) the most
powerful person in the world resigning. I get that gate is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Woe is me, I spent too much for a inferior product with a fancy brand on it (auspiciously ignoring the
conditions it was made under). It is even still functional, if not literally even. Buy Google, at least it
feigns interest in the underprivileged. To relate Watergate to Volkswagen Passenger Cars deliberate
diesel deception (dieselgate) is to lack perspective on the two events. When one adds the gate, it is
subliminally (if not deliberately) inviting the comparison. While content is incomparable, the
magnitudes are fair game. One is an investigative journalism reinvigorating hurricane and the others
are just a gust of sensationalism. However, where Watergate analogy is an obvious exploitation of a
forced correlation, there are far more apt analogies that can be introduced. Just in the past few years
there have been plenty of parablelic portraits perspectively parallelling considerably closer to the
Volkswagen Passenger Cars emission scandal. Just last year, three automotive recalls were objectively,
overly, and overtly obscene by comparison. Not to mention countless underreported environmental
disasters that should cause panic. Yet dieselgate is the story that sticks,

Examples Of Poseidon In The Odyssey
What is a villain? Is it a boulder of hate in a sea of kindness, or a person whose heart and world are
filled with darkness? A villain is a person who wants to hurt others or do bad things. The god of the
sea, Poseidon from the Odyssey, by Homer and President Snow from the Hunger Games, by Suzanne
Collins could both be considered villains. President Snow is a greater villain because of his cruelty,
selfishness, and him being uncooperative. President Snow and Poseidon are both insanely cruel but
President Snow is crueller. Aggressive Poseidon, to begin with, is cruel by not letting Odysseus get
home. As explained by Homer, A fierce tempest whipped up a storm so quick that he got carried far
from home, (Homer 8). This shows that Poseidon is cruel because he created a storm that ... Show

Poseidon, to begin with, was selfish because he did not want Odysseus to get home which also
affected Penelope and Telemachus. As stated by Homer, the mast snapped narrowly missing Odysseus
as it fell. (Homer 8). This illustrates that Poseidon is selfish because he tried to kill Odysseus which
would affect people in Ithaca. President Snow, as we move on, was selfish by killing innocent people
because they protested. As shown by the movie, a man protested by holding up two fingers, and was
shot for what he did. Even though some people may think Poseidon is more selfish because he made
his life better but plenty others worse, President Snow is more selfish because he takes people s lives
for little things. President Snow, finally, was also selfish by killing people to entertain others. As stated
by the movie, President Snow is as selfish as a two year old at a toy store because he took a man and
girl from each district to fight (Hunger Games). Even though Poseidon is selfish, President Snow is
more selfish because he kills people s family members for others

Hope enables people to move on by providing the thought that maybe tomorrow s events will be better

later lost when Ishmael is recruited by the army to fight against the rebels, causing him to become
addicted to drugs and the thrill of killing. Three years after his recruitment, Ishmael is rescued by

thought it was because you were happy all the time. Your mother said you even smiled when you
slept. But when you started your troublesomeness and were angry, your forehead glowed even
more...And here you are, it isn t shining anymore, (Beah 92). Ishmael s forehead did not glow because
he was mad or sad or embarrassed or happy. Ishmael s forehead glowed because he was passionate
and hopeful. The angrier he got when he was younger, the more his forehead glowed seeing as he
believed in his anger. Despite the fact that his hope shrank when he was faced with the death of his
family, the threat of the rebels, and the fear of dying, these events did not destroy Ishmael s hope
Ismael s hope begins its descent to nothingness when he becomes a child soldier and, consequently, a
drug addict. When Ishmael no longer mourns the death of human life, his hope is lost. When Ishmael
cannot care less if he lives or dies, his hope is lost. When he would rather continue killing as

How to Set Up Your Own Fm Radio Station
How To Set Up Your Own FM Radio Station Licensing And Start Up Issues
There are several ways to set up your own radio station. It depends on how serious you are about it.
The single most important thing you should know before you get started is why would you need to
start your own radio station?
Maybe, it s because you are a DJ or you have a band and want to reach an audience with your songs.
Maybe, you have a huge collection of rock music and want to share it with the world. Maybe you are a
member of club and want to make money by broadcasting a certain type of music along with
commercials. Maybe you are a candidate and want to spread the word about your nomination and your
speeches. Or maybe you are just person who is passionate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In New Zealand, there are no ongoing fees to operate this type of station however you do need to pay
nominal annual fees to APRA and RIANZ for music royalties. You do need to ensure however that
your transmission equipment is compliant with Radio Spectrum Management regulations.
Additionally, as is the case with any radio station, all your broadcasts need to comply with the
Broadcasting Act. Fundamentally this means your broadcasts must be in good taste. The advantages
that a low power FM radio station have over a commercial station is that is is much less expensive to
set up at the outset, your likelihood of finding a suitable frequency are much higher, and there are far
fewer ongoing costs.
When operating a low power FM station, you need to determine who your audience is. If you are
broadcasting in an area where there are already a number of resident commercial stations, you may
enjoy more success by broadcasting niche programming that appeals to an audience not currently
served by the full power FM stations. Alternatively for those who are located in a more rural area or
town, you then have the opportunity to set your station up as the local alternative to what is already
available. Generally a local station competing against a station being beamed in by satellite from one
of the main centres will attract a great deal of local community support.
When it comes to setting up or starting up a low power FM radio

1. Defining the FTSE 250
The FTSE is bantered around a lot within financial circles and seems to be a key element within many

The Admin Curse Short Story
The Admin Curse
Long ago, a few years after the Ender Plague, Creator Notch had finally completed the creation of the
majority of the Worlds of Minecraftia. He had created it to be large enough for numerous players to
roam about and live in it. He had become content with his creation, but he could not watch over every
part of it by himself. He needed a form of assistance.
Notch had handpicked a group of players who exemplified an excellent leading ability to assist him in
the supervision of each section of the World of Minecraftia. This group preferred to call themselves
administrators of these sections, or Admins for short. They spent many years carefully watching over
each section of Minecraftia.
The Admins had decided to elect a secondary leader who would answer directly to Notch and inform
the other Admins of his requests. This would make the administration of Minecraftia more efficient.

took over these sections, enslaved the resident mobs to do the Leader s bidding, and began to
terraform the land to build the Leader s Admin Towers. The Admins had soon created an empire, and
the Admin Leader was their ruler.
After thinking long and hard about the future of his empire, the Admin Leader decided that his army
was not enough as it was. He needed more Admin Creations to join his ranks. He would do this
without a second thought, but one problem arose: there were very few players left within Minecraftia,
and what few remained went into hiding where the Admin Leader could not find them. For the future
of his empire, he needed to find these players so that he could transform

Twelfth Night Duality
In Act 1, Scene 2 of Twelfth Night, as Viola lays down her plans before the captain, she speaks about a
major theme of the play: the way a person seems outwardly versus their true self. Viola says she is
aware people cannot be trusted based on their looks, but trusts the captain. She then requests his help
so she can be dressed as a boy for the remainder of the play. The way she behaves also hits on another
theme, the contrast between people that can act as a balance. Through comparison, she can be seen as
a counterbalance to Sebastian in the way they both conduct themselves. The majority of the characters
have a twin of their own to act as a sort of foil. Exploring this passage (1.2.96 108) will help see the
double themes of duality that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As if extending the idea of the twins, Viola and Sebastian, nearly everyone seems to have their
complementary twin. As mentioned earlier, Viola takes charge and makes her own plans while
Sebastian seems to operate on whims. There is also a difference in their outlooks. Viola is easily
assured that her brother may still be alive, while Sebastian is certain his sister is dead. Olivia and
Orsino also act as the counterbalance to one another. While both are absorbed in their own melancholy
moods, Orsino does it for the love he desires and Olivia does it for loved ones she s lost. Despite their
opposing approaches towards wooing, they both end up with a love of their own. Another interesting
counterbalance is between the captain and Antonio. The captain saved Viola, but after accepting
money to help her, he went his separate way, never expressing feelings for her. In contrast, Antonio
rescued Sebastian, then gave him money and followed him, all the while expressing love for him.
Then there is Sir Toby and Malvolio, perhaps two of the most evident opposites in the play because of
the way Malvolio actively opposes Sir Toby. Malvolio is somber and serious. He wants people to
respect him and kisses up to Olivia. Sir Toby, however, is more of a clown than Feste, staying up to all
hours of the night, drinking and carelessly waking the house with his singing. Malvolio does what he
can to seem above his station, but Sir Toby does not worry what others think and often seems below
his station. Though, with a character like Malvolio, finding people to be his opposite is no chore; Feste
and Maria could also work to contrast with him, but Malvolio and Sir Toby s hatred of each other do

Free Bus Rides
Topic: Should the elderly receive free bus rides?
My opinion: yes!
Free Bus Rides for The Elderly
Should the elderly receive free bus rides? This is a controversial issue that many countries are faced
with in nowadays. People analyze this problem by taking both pros and cons into consideration. Some
people are in favor of the elderly riding bus for free because they have right to benefit the giving back
from the society to which they devote most of their lifetime. On the other hand, some disapproval
voices emerge in terms of influence of social economy or unequal treatment between the elderly and
the others. The reasons why I strongly believe the elderly should receive free bus rides are lacking of
finance, preventing traffic accidents, and promoting public transportations. A lack of finance is the
first reason that the elderly should receive free bus rides. A majority of elderly is limited in their
finance after they got retired; they are sometimes even not able to pay their fundamental living needs
such as medicine and groceries. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 12% seniors are living at the
poverty level, and their income become lower and lower with increasing age; therefore, they would
have difficulty in their constant expenses such as healthcare, housing, food, and so on. About 14.2% of
all these expenses are spent on transportation. The National Council on Aging shows as well that the
elderly are struggling with housing and health bills, lack of access to

Analysis of the Unforgettable Movie No Man s Land Essay
No Man s Land is a heartbreaking anti war movie which is played in the background of the Bosnian

many companies belonging to different countries like Bosnia Herzegovina, UK and others. Two
injured soldiers, a Bosnian and other the Bosnian Serb, are entrapped with their lines in the attempt for
survival. They face each other in the trench where they allow time to pass for darkness to prevail.

In addition to Behind Enemy Lines, it is another film of Bosnian war era. Nevertheless, instead of
being a lustrous and technically refined and amazing film, it presents a Bosnian version on the clash,
over spilling with meaninglessness, sarcasm and unyielding tragedy. In fact the director of No Man s
Land, Tanovic started his filmmaking profession by making war footage for the Bosnian army and
examined events as first hand observer which he mercilessly criticizes in the movie. The film starts in
1993, somewhere close to the Bosnian town of Tuzla, where a small body of relief soldiers from the
Bosnian army are seen moving in the open countryside at night. As the thick fog covers the area, they
determine to take a pause and have camp the night. Unluckily as the morning sun takes shape and fog
subsides, it is known that they are lingering very close to the Serbian frontlines and consequently they
are fired upon. Along with the expected animosity between them, tension is escalated with Cera in the
middle of the landmine which compels him to remain inactive until assistance reaches. Unfortunately,
the engagement of the international community and media makes the situation far more uncertain for
those caught in the dilemma. The film basically presents a small version of the Bosnian clash in the
pathetic situation of its three entangled soldiers and the abortive interference of its imminent
international saviors. Tanovic underlines

the limitation of technology makes it hard for a start up company to catch up with the big players in

To What Extent Does Large-Scale Social Change Do To The...
Sociologists have asked what can possibly keep a society together, when several outside (or inside)
forces threaten to tear them apart. And what does large scale social change do to the unity of a society?
Mechanical and organic solidarity is an idea from the mind of Emile Durkheim. Mechanical solidarity
creates social integration. When a population shares similar occupations (or perhaps similar religions),
they form the same values and ideas (104 05). An example of a society with mechanical solidarity
would be the Puritan society, which existed in the New England area, beginning in the mid 17th
century (Kizer). In such a society, because everyone shares the same beliefs in order to remain
together, there is little room for a diversification in these beliefs. Societies with organic solidarity tend
to be larger and involve a division of labor and interdependence. That is, everyone has different jobs,
and they depend on another person to do their job, so that all of the parts contribute to a working
whole. American society today would be an example of a society with organic solidarity (105). ...

Why Did Europeans Expand Into America, Africa and Asia...
During the sixteenth century expansion became a key theme across the face of Early Modern Europe;
this caused the sixteenth century to acquire the retrospective name of the Age of Expansion or Age of

this period can be explained in terms of three major symptoms: overseas discovery, population growth
and price inflation all of which are tied together in a complex multiplicity making in difficult to isolate
one symptom from the others. Alongside these three key factors is another two factors, Emperor

Black Men and Public Space
Cesar Augusto Gonzalez Professor Hargett English 1101 October 14, 2010 Vicious Cycle Throughout
history, literature has served as a way of expression. Human beings have poured out their feelings onto
paper, as long as there have been people interested in them. Common themes have risen through the
ages, such as the contrast between light and dark. Darkness is known for its negative undertone. In
earlier times, we saw darkness as an interpretation of evil; likewise, light represented God and all
good. From literature we, as a society, have built what later became social rules, giving rise to things
such as prejudice. In Brent Staples essay Black Men and Public Space this is clearly shown by the

Fear is accompanied by a need for survival. Some animals grow being dominant, creating fear to
control. Other just decide to hide hoping not to be involved into precarious situations. In Black Men
and Public Space , Staples describes, I chose, perhaps unconsciously, to remain a shadow timid, but a
survivor (568). Staples explain that he took the smaller animal path and tries to remain un
recognizable in order for him to have a safer journey around avoiding confrontation. Is easier to hide
that to fight but in the long run that easiness brings other problems, where self blame can evolve to
depression and self depreciation. It comes a time in every man s life when he has to choose between
himself and society. When he has to decide whether to stand on his own or simply hide his true self in
order to escape confrontation, arguments and possible rejection. Most people have a tendency to go
with the flow be just like everyone else. Staple writes, I now take precautions to make myself less
threatening (568). This quote describes the idea previously expressed. He chooses to alter his image to
make his journey safer. In order to add this newer safer self, he must subtract what he was before,
losing his identity. In Staples essay Black Men and Public Space , big issues are explored and

Basically she is stating the fact that each person has the right to live in a clean world, be able to obtain
the necessities which are needed to live, and make a living in which they can lead a healthy lifestyle.
It is through the theories of the tragedy of the commons and environmental rights that we realize that
all of society is invading one another s environmental rights through the tragedy of the commons. This
is done very inconspicuously in some cases such as that of the Coral Reefs.
The Coral Reefs are limestone formations that are produced by living organisms. They are found in
shallow tropical waters. The predominate organisms that make them up are stony corals, which are
colonial cnidarians that secrete calcium carbonate (limestone) as an exoskeleton. Calcium carbonate is
also deposited by other types of marine organisms such as tube building annelid worms but any reef
formed by a biological community is called a coral reef. These skeletons accumulate due to the tides
and create a formation that supports the living coral as well as the highest species diversity of all
explored marine habitats. Reefs are found between the latitudes of 30°N to

The Round House By Louise Erdrich
Survivance is a term that is used in Native American studies and it includes two important terms:
survival and resistance . Survivance refers to an active sense of presence and in native stories, natural
reason, active traditions, customs, narrative resistance, and clearly observable in personal attributes,
such as humor, spirit, cast of mind, and moral courage (Vizenor). It allows them to transform their
experiences of historical trauma into courage, forgiveness, and healing through political activism and
cultural revitalization (sfsu).Vizenor defines this term in opposition to victimry and it is more than just
survival for the Native Americans, but as self reliant perseverance through all the hardships that had
presented themselves such as the forced assimilation into the white community and culture. Instead of
losing their roots, the Native Americans were able to hold on to their historical culture and traditions
and were so much more than mere survival.
The Round House, written by Louise Erdrich is a fictional novel that focuses on a Chippewa family in
a North Dakota Indian reservation. The story is written from the perspective of a young man, Joe
Coutts, who is the son of a tribal judge, Bazil Coutts, and his mother, Geraldine, who was brutally
raped by a white man, Lindin Lark, in a savage act of vengeance. After this violent act, Joe s mother
spirals into solidarity and becomes closed off to the point where she is unable to leave her room. This

MOTION ANALYSIS OF TRIKONASANA
ABSTRACT: The objective of this study is to analyse human motion during Trikonasana from a
kinematic and inverse dynamic human model and computational biomechanical solver, LifeMOD[1].
Low cost Inertial sensors(IMU) were used to obtain segment parameters for Trikonasana. Trikonasana
is one of the important postures(asana) practised in yoga. Trikonasana has to be performed with
perfection to obtain maximum benefits, which can be quantified by its symmetry, grace and
consistency[2]. This study helps to determine torque, angular velocity and angular acceleration at hip

bodies with their mass concentrated at their center of mass. The different segment lengths, masses,
center of mass locations and moment of inertia are obtained from anthropometric data. The Joints

Attending An Informational Protest Here At Siena College
For this event paper, I decided to attend an informational protest here at Siena College. To bring
awareness to domestic violence in our society, Siena College hosted the One Billion Rising
Revolution in the Sarazen Student Union on February 12th, 2016. One Billion Rising is one of the
biggest revolutions intended to end violence against women in the world. Many people around the
world come together to express their opinions, dance, and rise up against domestic violence. At this
event many different dance teams at Siena College were asked to send ten of their dancers to this
event to perform. Out of twenty girls on the team, I volunteered to learn a short dance and perform it
for a good cause. The One Billion Rising Revolution connects to the theme Diversity, and the article
Why Does Diversity Matter at College Anyway? by Jeremy S. Hyman and Lynn F. Jacobs because
they prove that diversity is important when bringing awareness to a certain cause, because it helps
promote worldliness to understand the multiple perspectives and experiences of different kinds of
people
I chose to go to this event because I was interested in learning about domestic violence. This is a topic
I ve learned a little about in high school, but I ve never had the opportunity to learn about it first hand
from an professional speaker. At this event, Siena invited a speaker to come and talk about the issue of
domestic violence against women around the world. After her thirty minute presentation,

Nonbelief as Support for Atheism Essay
Nonbelief as Support for Atheism
The Canadian philosopher J.L. Schellenberg has recently put forward an argument for atheism based
on the idea that God is supposed to be perfectly loving and so would not permit people to be deprived
of awareness of his existence. If such a deity were to exist, then, he would do something to reveal his
existence clearly to people, thereby causing them to become theists. Thus, the fact that there are so
many non theists in the world becomes good reason to deny the existence of God conceived of in the
given way. I first raise objections to Schellenberg s formulation of the argument and then suggest
some improvements. My main improvement is to include among the divine attributes the property of

In this paper I shall first raise some objections to the argument and then try to show how it might be
improved.
Objections
(A) Irrelevance of the term reasonable
Schellenberg regards reasonable nonbelief to be that which is inculpable (i.e., for which the
nonbeliever is not to blame). The distinction between culpable and inculpable nonbelief is somewhat
unclear, but even if it could be sufficiently understood I am inclined to say that all nonbelief in God is
inculpable. For that reason, I would accept premise (3) of the argument. Schellenberg devotes a
chapter of his book to a defense of it. Although I agree with what he says there, it seems to me that
even if people s nonbelief in God were always somehow their own fault, that would be irrelevant. A
perfectly loving deity would set vindictiveness aside and still want to help nonbelievers (by supplying
them with evidence of his existence), despite their culpability. All it would take, for most, would be
some spectacular miracle, or perhaps, as Schellenberg prefers, a religious experience. So, even if some
clear sense could be attached to the distinction between culpable and inculpable nonbelief, the real
force of Schellenberg s argument would lie in the fact of nonbelief itself. The issue of whether or not
the nonbelief is culpable would be irrelevant. It would therefore improve the argument if the word
reasonable were simply omitted from it.

Premise (1) should be

Miller And Liz Aldermen Analysis
I think all women should have a choice in anything they do. The choice between having a career,
family or both is a discussion they should not take lightly and weigh all their options. They should
also take everyone in account, including the children. Women also have to be careful not to be caught
up in the superwomen syndrome. This is when career women scrambling to run two lives one at home
and one at work. They want to be good wives and mothers, but they also want to be intellectually
stimulated by a challenging career or at least bring in a second income to help their households get by.
In the New York Post article Why U.S. Women are leaving their jobs behind Clair Cain Miller and Liz

The Auteur Theory Of Film Directed By Francois Truffaut...
It might be apparent when watching the credits at the end of a movie that there are a lot of people who
partake in the development in what you just watched. Although a director can t usually create and
perform all the aspects involved when making a film, the Auteur Theory focuses on the idea that the
director is the true author, and creditable for the final look of the film. Auteur Theory is a philosophy
of film created by Francois Truffaut, a film director and critic, in 1959. Truffaut noted that the
directors are, and wish to be, responsible for the scenarios and dialogues that they illustrate. said in

Even the young actor Jean Leaud playing Antoine Dionel shared a similar misunderstood youth. This
incorporation of the recreation of Truffaut s personal experience into his work gave it individuality,
thus an true expression of the directors vision. This use of personal resemblance was also used in his
later film The Wild Child (1969), as the filmmaker identifies not only with the child character, but also
with the father figure, Dr. Itard, whose part he chose to interpret himself. (Colvile 448). Francois
Truffaut s skills with the technical competence was also a high light for his unique Auteurism. The
400 Blows takes the audience through a trouble young boys life, and his remarkable use of subtle
camera technique and sense of composition enhance the aspects of the Poignant film. The long shot of
the final running sequence in the film is really interesting and unique. Unlike other very satisfying
resolutions with a strong degree of closure, the protagonist makes it to the beach, where his mother
had always wanted him, but once he reaches the water the camera zooms on his face and the frame
freezes. This leaves the audience with a sense of openness to ponder well what next? , which is a
common question asked once a chapter in life ends. Also like Truffaut, Alfred Hitchcock also doesn t
mind avoiding the usual parts of storytelling. The main point that stands out in Hitchcock s work is the
recurrent characteristic that give his films, as a whole, a distinct

We are living in a colorful world. There are many different people live with different cultures. But,
what makes so many differences in our world? According to the story of In the Jungle and my

environment around us. In the story of In the Jungle, Author Annie Dillard goes to the Napo River,
which is the heart of the Ecuadorian Jungle and it is also the most unspoiled place. She describes the
natural living style of the people who live there. As she tells us is the story that The cold woke them;

And the people who live nearby river will diet themselves on fish. So those crops and fishes become
the staple for them. Besides that, human civilization s progress could not be without natural resource.
People will fight for natural resource because of that and that is also the reason that why there are so
many wars in the world. Now, oil is the one of most important natural resource in the world. That
made those people who live in Middle East very rich and there are many wars happened in there also.
Another main effecting of people s life is from the social environment. Annie describes the people
who live in the Ecuadorian Jungle are fill with happiness. That is showed in the text that As the
children became excited by their own singing, they left their log benches and swarmed around the
nuns, hopping, smiling at us, everyone smiling, the nuns faces bursting in their cowls, and the clear

ample natural resource make their graceful and placid society. However, what if they are living in a
dangerous and wicked society, what kinds of people would they be? The social environment could
decide what kind of people you would be. There is an old Chinese allegory about how important the
social environment is for a person. Mencius is a very marvelous person in China. He was very clever

When changing the demand planning process to adopt the concept, markets need to adapt historical
data. This task will be done once during the implementation of the concept.
Maintain a Cleaned Base History:
Once the concept is in place, maintain the Cleaned Base History by cleaning history of the new
historical data. This task is to be done every month/week in the monthly and weekly Demand Planning

How Does Traditional Mexican Music Influence People s...
In my personal experience, Mexican music has revolved around my life for as long as I can remember.
Growing up in a bordertown has its Hispanic heritage. Whether I was at home, school, or even in
public places, I would hear Spanish related music playing in the background. I believe Spanish music
holds many values when it comes to different occasions. The music can manipulate the minds of its
listeners using love, passion, and outstanding rhythms. After reading an article online, I can explain
how three different genres of traditional Mexican music influence people s culture.
The genre that most people know Mexican music by is Mariachi. Mariachi is usually played at
birthday parties, quinceañeras, and any other social gathering. In a Mariachi band, the member s attire
consists of a Charro suit and sombrero. For the main part, they use violins, trumpets, a classical guitar
and a vihuela (a five string guitar). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ranchera music can tell a story, and use love, patriotism, and nature to make a magnificent melody.

makes. Finally Ranchera music can be simallary compared to the tempo of a waltz, a polka or a
bolero.
The last genre Norteño is comprised of other music like Tejano or Tex Mex . This kind of music is
very relatable to me and is personally one of my favorite type of Mexican music. A twelve string
guitar known as bajo sexto and the accordion are Norteño s most characteristic instruments. Norteño
music is usually played by a group of men or a band. The music is originated from migrated europeans

Religious Spaces, By Thomas Tweed
Religious spaces, characterized by Thomas Tweed, are differentiated, interrelated, and kinetic. As a
sacred city with spiritual significance in three major religions, Jerusalem is depicted thoroughly in the
Hebrew Bible and illustrated as one of the spaces Tweed defines. The Bible emphasizes that Jerusalem
was chosen by God and honored by Israelites, which differentiates it as a special, singular space; the
description of Solomon s Temple shows that the Holy City was interrelated to economic power and
involved in the judgment of civil cases. Moreover, the conquest, development and destruction of
Jerusalem illustrate the city as a kinetic space, reflecting the unsettled history of the Iron Age. These
characteristics all make Jerusalem a religious and political center from the ancient Near East time to
present day, guiding the footsteps of believers around the world.
In his essay Space , Thomas Tweed characterizes spaces for religious practices as differentiated
locales that are sensually encountered and imaginatively figured. They are more or less special,
singular, or set apart from undifferentiated or unnamed generic places (Tweed 2011: 119). He also
states that spaces are always interrelated with nature and with culture, and they are shaped by political
processes, social relations and economic forces. Furthermore, defining religions as confluence of
organic cultural flows about dwelling and crossing, about finding a place and moving across

The Problems With College-Entrance Testing Essay
One of the most stressful experiences for a high school senior is the search for the college. So once
these senior students finally develop a plan, why is it that they may not be able to achieve what they
desire? Colleges and universities today are becoming more and more competitive, sometimes to the
point of exclusive. With that it is fair to say that entrance to certain schools may be more difficult and
extensive than the others based on popularity and demand. When this happens, colleges are looking

Since it is almost impossible to have any one on one work with students, the students at the low end of
the spectrum will have the most amount of time, if any, to work individually with teachers. This leaves
the advanced students unchallenged with the same tasks that they have already mastered. Teaching to
a test results in multiple disadvantages for students. Educators also know that certain curriculum will
be on these tests, so that is what will be focused on in the classrooms. The curriculum for these tests
limits teachers on what they are allowed to teach as well as anything they can teach outside of the core
curriculum. The core curriculum being taught is what will be found on standardized tests. When
teachers have to stress these core subjects, they are not able to teach any additional material that they
would like to. Students will not have the opportunity to learn about astronomy, for example, because
they are too occupied with memorizing elements of scientific formulas. While it is important that
students have an exceptional knowledge of core curriculum, they should not be limited to just that.
Electives and advanced classes are options for students who already have a decent grasp on core
curriculum and want to broaden their education. However, standards for these advanced classes are
being limited and making educators go over the same curriculum again to improve test scores even
more. For example,

Flexible Data Models NoSQL allows horizontal data partitioning across different distributed systems
or processors. However, relational model has a fixed schema in
contrast to NoSQL. Applications based on NoSQL have data models explicitly designed and


Partial Record Updates Data models that use NoSQL emphasize on column based processing that

share of its rivals, and thus their profitability (Hill Jones, 2012, p. 62). The relative power of
consolidation on the automobile industry was high.
Demand and Supply A second point of consideration relating to the intensity of rivalry within the
industry was the level of industry demand. Demand declines when customers are leaving the
marketplace or each customer is buying less (Hill Jones, 2012, p. 62). This was the case in 2009 in
many developed nations due to the recession, which was marked by job loss, credit problems, and
high gas prices that increased the demand for fuel efficient vehicles or left consumers unable to
purchase vehicles altogether. At the same time, growth was expanding in China and some other
developing nations, which opened the doors for automobile companies in these countries to expand at

How Does Polonius Love Ophelia
After reading Act 1, Scene 3 in Hamlet by Shakespeare, it s clear that Laertes cares for and loves
Ophelia more than Polonius. Laertes nonetheless advises his sister to remember that in her relationship
with Prince Hamlet, he is not committed. This is because his greatness weighed and his will is not his
own. (1.3.17) He is only telling her this because he knows that Hamlet s choice of marriage partner
will be greatly influenced by what is best for the country. In other words, Laertes insists that marriage
between the two is impossible and he is saying this to keep his sister safe.
Despite this fact, others believe that Polonius is more caring towards Ophelia. Polonius explains that
she is to not believe his vows for they are brokers.

Did apartheid era influence your company s business both locally and as well as internationally?
Comment___________________________________________________________________ (4)
Analysis of Findings:
Business 1:
This business was established before the year 1948, the year Apartheid laws were introduced. Part of
the Apartheid laws was placing economic sanctions on South Africa which caused many businesses to
disinvest from South Africa, but this business did not withdraw its trade from South Africa, instead it
adopted the Sullivan Principles which expanded the corporate code and promoted the advancement of
human rights and social justice for companies based abroad.
Business 2:
This particular business was active during the height of Apartheid which means that they were
established before the Apartheid laws were put into place during 1948. The business later changed its
company name and then went on to disinvest from the South African economy. It was situated on 124
Main Street, and due to the fact that the company did not adopt policies of any sort to protect itself
from the Apartheid laws it was placed under high risk and received bomb threats regularly. The
political reforms introduced in the 1990 s encouraged the company to return to South

Pan Labyrinth Essay
The second source provides great insight on Guillermo del Toro s Pan Labyrinth (2006). The author
analyzes the historical aspect of the movie, regarding the Spanish civil war, emergence of the
Nationalist regime, and the aftermath of the collapse of the Republicans. What s interesting about this
Alvaro s analyzation is his belief that the movie mainly focuses on the aftermath of the war a situation
many have forgotten or fail to bring up. The movie makes the war appear as if it s going on during the
film, but the intertwining of Ofelia s fantasy, which is not represented as two different realms, but one
cohesive, cause the author to believe the movie rests on the aftermath of the Civil War. The journal
continues to address how the camera work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He covers how the camera work and history help build and reinforce the themes in Children of Men
(2006), directed by Alfonso Cuarón. His article opens by stating the importance of Theo s relatively
calm reaction to the violent bombing that takes place. This leads to my argument on the influence that
refugees and immigrants play in the film, as well silently referencing the tragic to 9/11 bombing. The
frequent reference to them throughout the movie; being killed and violently contained behind fences
and held in cages, address the familiarity of the worldwide problem of immigration. The fear of
immigrants in the name of national security, is also evident in the film; even showing a Homeland
Security banner later in the film. In the period of this movie, violence is not only enforced and upheld,
it s ignored. Alfanso s analysis brought up character development, specifically Theo s dependence,
which I had not even considered prior to this reading. In the beginning of the film he appears socially
detached; faking sympathy to the news of Baby Diego s death with his coworkers in an attempt to hide
his distaste of the government. Julian s death and finding out about Kee s pregnancy forces him to
become a leader. He acts as a selfless protagonist that develops throughout the film, and may
symbolize the change within the government. Overall, Alfanso s analyzation of Children of Men is

Now, when the system changed, the government had to establish absolute new for the whole country
way for living. Capitalistic system states are based on the free enterprise, private property, markets,
and individual choice. In 1991, the Russian language did not even have a word or term that stressed
the private property in land. Property belonged to all, and therefore to no one. After the Bolshevik
revolution a forceful collectivization of the land property was carried out. This way a vital link
between the peasantry who were the main workforce in the country and their object of work the land,
their prime source of income and goods, was broken. The communist government vigorously was
compelling the peasants to work tirelessly, for almost no profit, the salaries were the lowest in the
country, so the pensions. As a result the alienation of the citizen toward the land and the property as a
whole was one of the main reasons for the fall of the communism. Huge flow of people from the
countryside to the cities was taking place. As a result at the end of communist regime the base for
restoration of the capitalistic economy in the villages the development of small and middle sized farms
was very weak. Rebuilding the ties between the people and the land, returning the economic initiative
to the individuals and changing the state regulatory system, including the protection of the private
property were immense tasks for the new

Employment of Illegal Immigrants
Employment of Illegal Immigrants Employment of illegal immigrants in the United States, as well as
other countries has been a highly controversial subject for many years now. There are many people
living in various countries around the world that are unhappy with the way they are living, and want
something more out of life than what their country can offer. Due to their unhappiness, they decide to
immigrate to another country, and this is usually done illegally. Once they are in their preferred
country, which a lot of the time is the United States, they are forced to work in low skilled jobs
because higher skilled jobs require people to speak fluent English and show proof of residency.
Although many people view illegal migrants as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There has been many laws and regulations passed, to try and prevent illegal migrants from working in
the United States. In all states, businesses Are required by federal law to check the legal status of all
new hires. They must fill out federal form 1 9 to show that each worker holds federally acceptable
residency documents, like a driver s license or social security card (Speizer 1). Although they must do
all of those things, they are not required to check the authenticity of the documents. In Arizona that
has all changed, a new law has been passed that makes it mandatory for all employers to participate in
E Verify in which information from 1 9 documents can be checked through databases at the Social
Security Administration or the Department of Homeland Security (Speizer 2). This used to be
something businesses could voluntarily partake in, but has now become mandatory in Arizona. Under
this law they have created harsh punishments for employers who knowingly hire undocumented
migrants. One of these harsh punishments includes the loss of the employer s business license, if it is a
reoccurring issue. They hope that this new law will decrease the amount of undocumented workers in
the state and create more jobs for their own U.S. citizens. I do not believe that employment of illegal
immigrants is a problem in our country in any way. Over half of the jobs

The Fall of the House of Usher Analysis
The Fall of the House of Usher Review
The Fall of the House of Usher is a short story written by Edger Allan Poe in 1839. Almost everything
about the story is very gloomy, dark and depressing. For example, the house is described by the
narrator as the melancholy House of Usher and the description of Roderick Usher himself makes you
think of a corpse. This theme of dreariness and sorrow pervades the story and is done to a very
chilling effect, which really draws in the reader. The Fall of the House of Usher has lots of necessary
elements of a traditional Gothic tale: a dreary landscape, a haunted house, mysterious characters, etc.,
but for all of these elements, the vagueness of the story is a large part of the ... Show more content on

I felt creeping upon me, by slow yet uncertain degrees, the wild influence of his own fantastic yet
impressive superstitions. This shows that, although he is an educated and analytical man, he is
susceptible to other influences. He tries to suppress his fears and help his friend throughout the story
and is successful until, at the very end, his fear finally overcomes him as Lady Madeline s
reappearance after her death is just too much for him and ends up driving him out the house. Edgar
Allan Poe creates a sensation of claustrophobia in this story. The narrator is mysteriously trapped by
Roderick s lure and his need to help his friend. He cannot escape until the house of Usher collapses
completely. The house, because of its deteriorated state and seemingly seclusion from everything else,
seems to take on a monstrous character of its own the Gothic mastermind that controls the fate of its
inhabitants. Edgar Allan Poe creates confusion between the living things and inanimate objects by
doubling the physical house of Usher with the genetic family line of the Usher family, which he refers
to as the house of Usher. It is even said in the story that the people of the nearby village refer to both
the actual house and the Usher family as the house of Usher which reinforces the idea that they are the
same thing. Poe employs the word house metaphorically, but

  • 2. Bill Mckay In The Candidate During the film, The Candidate, there are two men running against each other for the position of U.S Senator. The democrat, Bill McKay, is the son of popular ex governor John J. McKay who s a candidate for the U.S. Senate from California. He has no hope of winning, but he s interested in giving his opponent a run for his money. He competes against Crocker Jarmon, a popular and well aged Republican, who seems to have all his ducks in a row. McKay was asked to run by a political consultant, Marvin Lucas, looking for someone to ruffle up Jarmon s feathers, who is in it only for the money. This becomes a very remarkable competition due to the fact they re two different people. Bill is a young, attractive candidate who started doing this just because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His father rushed in and said Congratulations, son, you re officially a politician. This had a lot of significance and relevance to the story because his father was the ex governor. It seems as if he is happy for his son to be following in his footsteps and joining the world of politics. I also found this ironic due to the fact he said politician as if politicians weren t normal people like you and I. Bill seemed a little scared by that term, probably because he saw what it did to his father and doesn t want that to translate to his life. All in all Bill appeared very shocked that he had won the election, which shows he wasn t confident in his campaign. At the end, his campaign manager asks what they will do now and Bill has a look uncertainty. He must figure out where he needs to start off because he will now be the United States Senator. • 3. The Road By Cormac Mccarthy, Ray Bradbury, And 1984 Dystopian fiction is an alternate society characterized by a focus on that which is contrary to the author s ethos, portraying it as mass poverty, public mistrust, police state, or oppression. This genre was chosen because it allows for readers to feel better and thankful for our society s current state. The works that I used to investigate this genre were The Road by Cormac McCarthy, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and 1984 by George Orwell. All of these books are categorized in the dystopian genre but have very different symbols, styles, and implications. Each of these novels have different styles because some include a society with overbearing rules, such as Fahrenheit 451 and 1984, whereas The Road has virtually no society. Despite their differences, the purpose of these novels is to demonstrate that the only thing strong enough to conquer a corrupt and inhumane society is through true love and passion. Dystopian fiction first came about in the early 1900 s and is read by many as political warnings. Many authors of dystopian fiction explore at least one reason why things are the way the are in the novel, which is used as an analogy for similar issues in the real world. One of the first well known dystopian novels was We written by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1921. It predicted a post apocalyptic future in which society is entirely based on logic and modeled after mechanical systems. Shortly after came George Orwell s 1984, a very well known book that is one of the books used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on The Action of Ans-Related Drugs on Smooth Muscle The action of ANS related drugs on smooth muscle Introduction In the following experiment, the key objective is to compare the mechanical changes in tonic force by longitudinal smooth muscle after the addition of different concentrations of the drugs noradrenaline and acetylcholine. Peristalsis is the wave of muscle contractions that allow circular muscles to constrict the gut and longitudinal muscles to shorten it in an attempt to move the food bolus towards the rectum. A series of dilutions were prepared for both drugs to deduce the effect this would have on the contractions of the mammalian gut. These were added, in turn, to Ringers solution containing the gut (a solution resembling blood serum in its salt constituents used for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is distinguishable that when acetylcholine is added, the tonic force in the gut increases as the concentration increases. This is especially true at higher concentrations of acetylcholine, eg at a concentration of 1x10 5, the tonic force of the gut was 12.6mN. Conversely, at higher concentrations of Noradrenaline the tonic force in the gut decreases. The gut does not show any change in tonic force at lower concentrations, there is minimal or no change which can be determined from the graph. The tonic force of the gut at the highest concentration of 10 5 was 4mN which is significantly lower in comparison to what acetylcholine portrayed. So as concentration of noradrenaline increases, the tonic force in the gut decreases whilst as concentration of acetylcholine increases, the tonic force of the gut also increases. Discussion 1) The results obtained demonstrate that increasing concentration of acetylcholine increases tonic tension in the section of gut, conversely increasing noradrenaline concentration decreases tonic tension of the gut. 2) Both drugs do not influence the rate of rhythmic contractions yet they alter force and peak. The rate should remain fairly constant as it signifies the transmission of impulses being sent from the nervous system, any slowing in rate would suggest deprivation of nerve supply yet this is not the case as the same gut is used for both drugs and all concentrations. 3) The amplitude ... • 5. The Process And Importance Of Socialization Hailey Bryan Dr. Michael Flota SYG 2000 Online June 2, 2017 The Process and Importance of Socialization in Children: Socialization is the process through which an individual learns to become a functional member of society. Through socialization, one learns their cultures language, their role in life, what is expected from them, and what is considered acceptable behavior. Social interaction provides crucial sensory stimulation, which then leads to the creation of short and long term memories. These memories are important because they reinforce behaviors or actions in new social situations. Another important part of the process of socialization is cognitive development, also referred to as modeling (Bandura, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It continues from birth until death. We are continuously being molded into a social creature, and learning the social ways of acting and feeling. Without the process of molding, society could not continue, nor would culture exist, nor could an individual become a person. Every person constantly has to adjust themselves to be accepted by the society of which they are a member of. If they fail to do so, they re labeled a social deviant and will be put back in line by the efforts of society. Socialization is constantly reinforced all throughout our lifetime, not solely through just our parents and teachers, but also through authority figures, messages from institutions, media, and our culture. Socialization has a significant impact on the way that children perceive themselves when they are younger and usually continues to affect them as they grow into adulthood. Thus, sometimes resulting in this defiant, uncontrollable behavior. Children are born into this world without any knowledge of the social culture. They must go through a long sociological developmental process in which parents and other influences, attempt to transform them into socially competent individuals. So, what would a human be like if raised in isolation? There is plenty of evidence that suggests if humans were raised in extreme isolation, that they would lack many of the features that we generally identify as human. • 6. Volkswagen Passenger Cars Essay I do not purport to condone the recall of Volkswagen Passenger Cars; what they did was wrong; and objectively they deserve a swift and severe punishment. However, the media s response to dieselgate is an excessive overreaction. First of all, we cannot go around adding the gate suffix haphazardly to every transgression and gaucherie. Bob Bernstein and Carl Woodward worked for over a year trying to piece together the Watergate controversy. They risked everything for it: jobs, reputation and even their lives. To relate Watergate to Volkswagen Passenger Cars deliberate diesel deception (dieselgate) is to lack perspective on the two events. When one adds the gate, it is subliminally (if not deliberately) inviting the comparison. While content is incomparable, the magnitudes are fair game. One is an investigative journalism reinvigorating hurricane and the others are just a gust of sensationalism. However, where Watergate analogy is an obvious exploitation of a forced correlation, there are far more apt analogies that can be introduced. Just in the past few years there have been plenty of parablelic portraits perspectively parallelling considerably closer to the Volkswagen Passenger Cars emission scandal. A villain is a person who wants to hurt others or do bad things. The god of the sea, Poseidon from the Odyssey, by Homer and President Snow from the Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins could both be considered villains. President Snow is a greater villain because of his cruelty, selfishness, and him being uncooperative. President Snow and Poseidon are both insanely cruel but President Snow is crueller. President Snow, as we move on, was selfish by killing innocent people because they protested. As shown by the movie, a man protested by holding up two fingers, and was shot for what he did. Even though some people may think Poseidon is more selfish because he made his life better but plenty others worse, President Snow is more selfish because he takes people s lives for little things. • 13. Twelfth Night Duality In Act 1, Scene 2 of Twelfth Night, as Viola lays down her plans before the captain, she speaks about a major theme of the play: the way a person seems outwardly versus their true self. Viola says she is aware people cannot be trusted based on their looks, but trusts the captain. She then requests his help so she can be dressed as a boy for the remainder of the play. The way she behaves also hits on another theme, the contrast between people that can act as a balance. Through comparison, she can be seen as a counterbalance to Sebastian in the way they both conduct themselves. The majority of the characters have a twin of their own to act as a sort of foil. As mentioned earlier, Viola takes charge and makes her own plans while Sebastian seems to operate on whims. There is also a difference in their outlooks. Viola is easily assured that her brother may still be alive, while Sebastian is certain his sister is dead. Olivia and Orsino also act as the counterbalance to one another. While both are absorbed in their own melancholy moods, Orsino does it for the love he desires and Olivia does it for loved ones she s lost. Despite their opposing approaches towards wooing, they both end up with a love of their own. Another interesting counterbalance is between the captain and Antonio. The captain saved Viola, but after accepting money to help her, he went his separate way, never expressing feelings for her. In contrast, Antonio rescued Sebastian, then gave him money and followed him, all the while expressing love for him. Then there is Sir Toby and Malvolio, perhaps two of the most evident opposites in the play because of the way Malvolio actively opposes Sir Toby. Malvolio is somber and serious. He wants people to respect him and kisses up to Olivia. Sir Toby, however, is more of a clown than Feste, staying up to all hours of the night, drinking and carelessly waking the house with his singing. Malvolio does what he can to seem above his station, but Sir Toby does not worry what others think and often seems below his station. • 14. Free Bus Rides Topic: Should the elderly receive free bus rides? My opinion: yes! Free Bus Rides for The Elderly Should the elderly receive free bus rides? This is a controversial issue that many countries are faced with in nowadays. People analyze this problem by taking both pros and cons into consideration. Some people are in favor of the elderly riding bus for free because they have right to benefit the giving back from the society to which they devote most of their lifetime. On the other hand, some disapproval voices emerge in terms of influence of social economy or unequal treatment between the elderly and the others. The reasons why I strongly believe the elderly should receive free bus rides are lacking of finance, preventing traffic accidents, and promoting public transportations. A lack of finance is the first reason that the elderly should receive free bus rides. A majority of elderly is limited in their finance after they got retired; they are sometimes even not able to pay their fundamental living needs such as medicine and groceries. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 12% seniors are living at the poverty level, and their income become lower and lower with increasing age; therefore, they would have difficulty in their constant expenses such as healthcare, housing, food, and so on. Sociologists have asked what can possibly keep a society together, when several outside (or inside) forces threaten to tear them apart. And what does large scale social change do to the unity of a society? Mechanical and organic solidarity is an idea from the mind of Emile Durkheim. Mechanical solidarity creates social integration. When a population shares similar occupations (or perhaps similar religions), they form the same values and ideas (104 05). An example of a society with mechanical solidarity would be the Puritan society, which existed in the New England area, beginning in the mid 17th century (Kizer). In such a society, because everyone shares the same beliefs in order to remain together, there is little room for a diversification in these beliefs. Societies with organic solidarity tend to be larger and involve a division of labor and interdependence. That is, everyone has different jobs, and they depend on another person to do their job, so that all of the parts contribute to a working whole. • 20. Black Men and Public Space Cesar Augusto Gonzalez Professor Hargett English 1101 October 14, 2010 Vicious Cycle Throughout history, literature has served as a way of expression. Human beings have poured out their feelings onto paper, as long as there have been people interested in them. Common themes have risen through the ages, such as the contrast between light and dark. Darkness is known for its negative undertone. In earlier times, we saw darkness as an interpretation of evil; likewise, light represented God and all good. From literature we, as a society, have built what later became social rules, giving rise to things such as prejudice. Staples explain that he took the smaller animal path and tries to remain un recognizable in order for him to have a safer journey around avoiding confrontation. Is easier to hide that to fight but in the long run that easiness brings other problems, where self blame can evolve to depression and self depreciation. It comes a time in every man s life when he has to choose between himself and society. When he has to decide whether to stand on his own or simply hide his true self in order to escape confrontation, arguments and possible rejection. Most people have a tendency to go with the flow be just like everyone else. Staple writes, I now take precautions to make myself less threatening (568). • 24. The Round House By Louise Erdrich Survivance is a term that is used in Native American studies and it includes two important terms: survival and resistance . Survivance refers to an active sense of presence and in native stories, natural reason, active traditions, customs, narrative resistance, and clearly observable in personal attributes, such as humor, spirit, cast of mind, and moral courage (Vizenor). It allows them to transform their experiences of historical trauma into courage, forgiveness, and healing through political activism and cultural revitalization (sfsu).Vizenor defines this term in opposition to victimry and it is more than just survival for the Native Americans, but as self reliant perseverance through all the hardships that had presented themselves such as the forced assimilation into the white community and culture. Instead of losing their roots, the Native Americans were able to hold on to their historical culture and traditions and were so much more than mere survival. The Round House, written by Louise Erdrich is a fictional novel that focuses on a Chippewa family in a North Dakota Indian reservation. The story is written from the perspective of a young man, Joe Coutts, who is the son of a tribal judge, Bazil Coutts, and his mother, Geraldine, who was brutally raped by a white man, Lindin Lark, in a savage act of vengeance. Trikonasana has to be performed with perfection to obtain maximum benefits, which can be quantified by its symmetry, grace and consistency[2]. To bring awareness to domestic violence in our society, Siena College hosted the One Billion Rising Revolution in the Sarazen Student Union on February 12th, 2016. One Billion Rising is one of the biggest revolutions intended to end violence against women in the world. Many people around the world come together to express their opinions, dance, and rise up against domestic violence. At this event many different dance teams at Siena College were asked to send ten of their dancers to this event to perform. Out of twenty girls on the team, I volunteered to learn a short dance and perform it for a good cause. The One Billion Rising Revolution connects to the theme Diversity, and the article Why Does Diversity Matter at College Anyway? by Jeremy S. Hyman and Lynn F. Jacobs because they prove that diversity is important when bringing awareness to a certain cause, because it helps promote worldliness to understand the multiple perspectives and experiences of different kinds of people I chose to go to this event because I was interested in learning about domestic violence. • 27. Nonbelief as Support for Atheism Essay Nonbelief as Support for Atheism The Canadian philosopher J.L. Schellenberg has recently put forward an argument for atheism based on the idea that God is supposed to be perfectly loving and so would not permit people to be deprived of awareness of his existence. If such a deity were to exist, then, he would do something to reveal his existence clearly to people, thereby causing them to become theists. Thus, the fact that there are so many non theists in the world becomes good reason to deny the existence of God conceived of in the given way. I first raise objections to Schellenberg s formulation of the argument and then suggest some improvements. My main improvement is to include among the divine attributes the property of strongly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (1) In this paper I shall first raise some objections to the argument and then try to show how it might be improved. Objections (A) Irrelevance of the term reasonable Schellenberg regards reasonable nonbelief to be that which is inculpable (i.e., for which the nonbeliever is not to blame). The distinction between culpable and inculpable nonbelief is somewhat unclear, but even if it could be sufficiently understood I am inclined to say that all nonbelief in God is inculpable. For that reason, I would accept premise (3) of the argument. Schellenberg devotes a chapter of his book to a defense of it. Although I agree with what he says there, it seems to me that even if people s nonbelief in God were always somehow their own fault, that would be irrelevant. A perfectly loving deity would set vindictiveness aside and still want to help nonbelievers (by supplying them with evidence of his existence), despite their culpability. All it would take, for most, would be some spectacular miracle, or perhaps, as Schellenberg prefers, a religious experience. So, even if some clear sense could be attached to the distinction between culpable and inculpable nonbelief, the real force of Schellenberg s argument would lie in the fact of nonbelief itself. The issue of whether or not the nonbelief is culpable would be irrelevant. It would therefore improve the argument if the word reasonable were simply omitted from it. • 33. Religious Spaces, By Thomas Tweed Religious spaces, characterized by Thomas Tweed, are differentiated, interrelated, and kinetic. As a sacred city with spiritual significance in three major religions, Jerusalem is depicted thoroughly in the Hebrew Bible and illustrated as one of the spaces Tweed defines. The Bible emphasizes that Jerusalem was chosen by God and honored by Israelites, which differentiates it as a special, singular space; the description of Solomon s Temple shows that the Holy City was interrelated to economic power and involved in the judgment of civil cases. Moreover, the conquest, development and destruction of Jerusalem illustrate the city as a kinetic space, reflecting the unsettled history of the Iron Age. These characteristics all make Jerusalem a religious and political center from the ancient Near East time to present day, guiding the footsteps of believers around the world. In his essay Space , Thomas Tweed characterizes spaces for religious practices as differentiated locales that are sensually encountered and imaginatively figured. They are more or less special, singular, or set apart from undifferentiated or unnamed generic places (Tweed 2011: 119). (1.3.17) He is only telling her this because he knows that Hamlet s choice of marriage partner will be greatly influenced by what is best for the country. In other words, Laertes insists that marriage between the two is impossible and he is saying this to keep his sister safe. Despite this fact, others believe that Polonius is more caring towards Ophelia. Polonius explains that she is to not believe his vows for they are brokers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comment___________________________________________________________________ (4) Analysis of Findings: Business 1: This business was established before the year 1948, the year Apartheid laws were introduced. Part of the Apartheid laws was placing economic sanctions on South Africa which caused many businesses to disinvest from South Africa, but this business did not withdraw its trade from South Africa, instead it adopted the Sullivan Principles which expanded the corporate code and promoted the advancement of human rights and social justice for companies based abroad. • 43. Pan Labyrinth Essay The second source provides great insight on Guillermo del Toro s Pan Labyrinth (2006). The author analyzes the historical aspect of the movie, regarding the Spanish civil war, emergence of the Nationalist regime, and the aftermath of the collapse of the Republicans. What s interesting about this Alvaro s analyzation is his belief that the movie mainly focuses on the aftermath of the war a situation many have forgotten or fail to bring up. The movie makes the war appear as if it s going on during the film, but the intertwining of Ofelia s fantasy, which is not represented as two different realms, but one cohesive, cause the author to believe the movie rests on the aftermath of the Civil War. He covers how the camera work and history help build and reinforce the themes in Children of Men (2006), directed by Alfonso Cuarón. His article opens by stating the importance of Theo s relatively calm reaction to the violent bombing that takes place. This leads to my argument on the influence that refugees and immigrants play in the film, as well silently referencing the tragic to 9/11 bombing. The frequent reference to them throughout the movie; being killed and violently contained behind fences and held in cages, address the familiarity of the worldwide problem of immigration. The fear of immigrants in the name of national security, is also evident in the film; even showing a Homeland Security banner later in the film. In the period of this movie, violence is not only enforced and upheld, it s ignored. Alfanso s analysis brought up character development, specifically Theo s dependence, which I had not even considered prior to this reading. In the beginning of the film he appears socially detached; faking sympathy to the news of Baby Diego s death with his coworkers in an attempt to hide his distaste of the government. Julian s death and finding out about Kee s pregnancy forces him to become a leader. He acts as a selfless protagonist that develops throughout the film, and may symbolize the change within the government. Overall, Alfanso s analyzation of Children of Men is very ... Now, when the system changed, the government had to establish absolute new for the whole country way for living. Capitalistic system states are based on the free enterprise, private property, markets, and individual choice. In 1991, the Russian language did not even have a word or term that stressed the private property in land. Property belonged to all, and therefore to no one. After the Bolshevik revolution a forceful collectivization of the land property was carried out. This way a vital link between the peasantry who were the main workforce in the country and their object of work the land, their prime source of income and goods, was broken. The communist government vigorously was compelling the peasants to work tirelessly, for almost no profit, the salaries were the lowest in the country, so the pensions. As a result the alienation of the citizen toward the land and the property as a whole was one of the main reasons for the fall of the communism. Huge flow of people from the countryside to the cities was taking place. As a result at the end of communist regime the base for restoration of the capitalistic economy in the villages the development of small and middle sized farms was very weak. Rebuilding the ties between the people and the land, returning the economic initiative to the individuals and changing the state regulatory system, including the protection of the private property were immense tasks for the new ... • 45. Employment of Illegal Immigrants Employment of Illegal Immigrants Employment of illegal immigrants in the United States, as well as other countries has been a highly controversial subject for many years now. There are many people living in various countries around the world that are unhappy with the way they are living, and want something more out of life than what their country can offer. Due to their unhappiness, they decide to immigrate to another country, and this is usually done illegally. Once they are in their preferred country, which a lot of the time is the United States, they are forced to work in low skilled jobs because higher skilled jobs require people to speak fluent English and show proof of residency. Although many people view illegal migrants as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There has been many laws and regulations passed, to try and prevent illegal migrants from working in the United States. In all states, businesses Are required by federal law to check the legal status of all new hires. They must fill out federal form 1 9 to show that each worker holds federally acceptable residency documents, like a driver s license or social security card (Speizer 1). Although they must do all of those things, they are not required to check the authenticity of the documents. In Arizona that has all changed, a new law has been passed that makes it mandatory for all employers to participate in E Verify in which information from 1 9 documents can be checked through databases at the Social Security Administration or the Department of Homeland Security (Speizer 2). This used to be something businesses could voluntarily partake in, but has now become mandatory in Arizona. Under this law they have created harsh punishments for employers who knowingly hire undocumented migrants. One of these harsh punishments includes the loss of the employer s business license, if it is a reoccurring issue. They hope that this new law will decrease the amount of undocumented workers in the state and create more jobs for their own U.S. citizens. I do not believe that employment of illegal immigrants is a problem in our country in any way. Over half of the jobs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Fall of the House of Usher Analysis The Fall of the House of Usher Review The Fall of the House of Usher is a short story written by Edger Allan Poe in 1839. Almost everything about the story is very gloomy, dark and depressing. For example, the house is described by the narrator as the melancholy House of Usher and the description of Roderick Usher himself makes you think of a corpse. This theme of dreariness and sorrow pervades the story and is done to a very chilling effect, which really draws in the reader. The Fall of the House of Usher has lots of necessary elements of a traditional Gothic tale: a dreary landscape, a haunted house, mysterious characters, etc., but for all of these elements, the vagueness of the story is a large part of the ... This shows that, although he is an educated and analytical man, he is susceptible to other influences. He tries to suppress his fears and help his friend throughout the story and is successful until, at the very end, his fear finally overcomes him as Lady Madeline s reappearance after her death is just too much for him and ends up driving him out the house. Edgar Allan Poe creates a sensation of claustrophobia in this story. The narrator is mysteriously trapped by Roderick s lure and his need to help his friend. He cannot escape until the house of Usher collapses completely. The house, because of its deteriorated state and seemingly seclusion from everything else, seems to take on a monstrous character of its own the Gothic mastermind that controls the fate of its inhabitants. Edgar Allan Poe creates confusion between the living things and inanimate objects by doubling the physical house of Usher with the genetic family line of the Usher family, which he refers to as the house of Usher. It is even said in the story that the people of the nearby village refer to both the actual house and the Usher family as the house of Usher which reinforces the idea that they are the same thing. Poe employs the word house metaphorically, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
