Homosexual Identity In The Film Harvey Milk
In the film, Harvey Milk strategy was to get people to come out from the closet, expose their seuxality
identity. He wanted to fulfill the rights for gay and lesbian people, giving them the opportunity to have
the same rights as heterosexual people. He stated, the gay rights ordinance in San Francisco, the main
focus is main focus is, is to prevent the people who are already employed who are gay who, if they
want to come out and break down the stereotypes prevent them from being fired. The opportunity to
have equality and not to be judge by their seuxal orientation, to be accepted as a human being and not
by the preference of sexual identity. When Harvey Milk was on the board that represented change

It is the first step to exposing their sexual identity, which could also be hard to tell others and to admit
to themselves as well. There are some people who are still confuse of the sexual identity, by others
exposing themselves, they would be able to try to gain an understanding what homosexual is about
and preference that they prefer. Giving those people who are confuse a glimpse of what homosexual is
trying to fulfill and accomplish. The strategy is somewhat helpful to those who wants to expose their
sexual identity, but it doesn t change the fact that heterosexual are more accepted than homosexual.
Coming out can be problematic depending on the environment, because not everybody is able to
accept homosexuality. Society still wants to follow traditional, heterosexual, and gender role norms.
Homosexual will face many criticism, discrimination and inequality, but they are somewhat similar to
minorities who are also facing similar situation as homosexual. In my opinion, if you are able to come
out from the closet, then you should have the confidence to prove to others that we should judge
others by their sexuality but to accept other as human

Carpetbaggers Research Paper
Who were the Carpetbaggers? Following the Civil War four million slaves in the United States were
granted their freedom, immediately after the Union Victory America experienced a period known as
Reconstruction , defined by its efforts to rebuild the country and integrate African Americans into
society as citizens. During this era, radical reconstruction began to gain popularity in the northern
states and through this form of reconstruction the 14th amendment was ratified, giving equal
protection to all citizens, the 15th amendment was approved and gave African Americans the right to
vote, and public education systems for former slaves were placed (Orson). As radical republicans took
control over reconstruction, recently arrived northerners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The name itself comes from the type of luggage these northerners would carry with them, as they
resembled a satchel (or carpetbag) of possessions (McGuigan). These individuals viewed the south as
a new frontier filled with endless chances to acquire wealth, and while many carpetbaggers migrated
for economic purposes, there was a percentage who considered themselves reformers and possessed a
genuine desire to help out the south. Nevertheless, carpetbaggers quickly became an unstoppable force
and infamously made their mark in society, as they became wealthy plantation owners who hired
freedmen as well as white southerners for labor they contributed to the massive agricultural practice
which dominated the south: sharecropping. Sharecropping was a new form of slavery, though slaves
were technically free they eventually needed to work and provide a stable income for themselves and
their family, so slaves who did not return to their old masters turned to carpetbaggers for employment.
Through sharecropping families would rent a small part of land and work that land, in return portions
of the crop would go back to the land owner towards the end of the year. The loophole in the system
was it resulted in farmers owing more than they could ever repay as the costs of

Too Much Power In Tommy Douglas And George Orwell s Animal...
Have you ever thought about power and what it does when there is too much of it? In the book Animal
Farm and the short story Mousland, one group has too much power and it influences the rules; which
shows the theme that if there is too much power in one group there is no equality within the rules. The
authors of Animal Farm and Mousland use the narrative techniques of characterization and conflict to
illustrate political messages, about power influencing, how the rules affect equality.
The authors Tommy Douglas and George Orwell use characterization to show the political message
that too much power affects the rules that affect equality. In the book Animal Farm the animals have
taken over the farm from the humans and started producing their own goods. In the book Animal
Farm, page 35 it says, The animals had assumed as a matter of course that these would be shared out
equally; one day, however, the order went forth that all the windfalls were to be collected and brought
to the harness room for the use of the pigs... You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in
spirit of selfless and privilege? ... Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk
and apples (this has been proved by science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the
well being of a pig. We pigs are the brainworkers. This shows how Orwell uses the actions of the pigs
and their reasoning for those actions to characterize them as selfish and using their

Essay Analysis Of Advertisements For Two Different Things
Analysis of Advertisements for Two Different Things
In order for advertisements to succesfully portray a product, they must be directed to the appropriate
intended audience. Magazines, in general, are usually geared towards a specific audience with distinct
interests. Therefore, the `ads need to be carefully designed to attract the attentions of the magazine
reader. This very concept is well displayed in the two selected, yet very different, magazine ads from
the software magnate Microsoft Corporation.
The first ad is taken from Computer Games Strategy Plus a gaming magazine, as one might infer from
the title. The product `Monster Truck
Madness is a computer video game ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this, one can derive the intent to parallel the
`brute force and run over everything attitude that only a monster truck can possess, in the text.
The `Project ad explains very straight forwardly what the software is capable of doing for the readers
and their businesses. What this lacks in excitement is made up for through a very complete description
of the product.
This is appropriate for the intended audience: no nonsense, no hassle businessmen. Strangely enough,
the `Monster Truck ad, in sharp contrast, discusses absolutely nothing about the actual game itself.
Instead it elaborates on other parts of the ad more important to persuading the intended group of
people.
The pictures and images are, of course, `everything to an advertisement.
They retrieve preconceptions from each individual without using words at all.
Consequently, these pictures must express a meaning related to its intended purpose in this case, to
sell the product. In the `Monster Truck ad, the first image the reader should notice is the massive blue
and yellow monster truck. Certainly because it is the largest picture, but also because it is seemingly
`standing on its back tires. My first impression of this picture was one of pure awe. I imagine hearing

Heavy Metals
Heavy metals such as arsenic (metalloid), mercury, lead, and cadmium have a rich history throughout
the world. From Ancient Rome to the Vietnamese War, heavy metals have been used in many different
ways, sometimes leading people to death or illness. This research essay will go through the history of
the above mentioned metals, how they were used, and how they can affect people. Arsenic Among the
first uses of arsenic in in 19th century was in taxidermy and painting (Cooksey 2012). Soon after, it
was determined that arsenic was poisonous leading to the passing of the Arsenic Act in 1854 which
required a signature for buying arsenic (Cooksey 2012). Despite this people continued to use arsenic

The mercury that was ingested in Japan came in the form of methyl mercury. Methyl mercury can
cross the blood brain barrier and cause ataxia, sensory disturbances, and changes in mental state
(Cooksey 2012). Lead In the past, lead was used in smelting, and it was known that the vapors can be
deadly (Cooksey 2012). In ancient Rome, lead containers were used to hold food and drink and was a
constant source of chronic toxicity for many years (Cooksey 2012). Although people were recognizing
the effects of lead, it wasn t until after 1950 that legislation banned lead in food and drink cans
(Cooksey 2012). Today, lead poisoning is a huge concern in China as the country becomes more
industrialized and the production and use of lead increases (Hou et al. 2013). According to Hou et. al,
lead can affect many organs and destroy functions of the nervous system (2013). A person can
accumulate lead in their body from the environment, and it tends to stay there. This means that
younger children are more vulnerable the longer they are exposed to lead. Children s blood brain
barriers are also not fully developed yet, making them more susceptible to lead poisoning (Hou et al.
2013). It has been observed that lead can impair growth, memory, intelligence, and behavior in these
children (Hou et al. 2013). Hou et al, conducted a study to observe the trend between blood lead levels
and cognitive development of children (2013). They found that blood lead levels had an obvious

Inevitability Of Eternal Life
I try to live life happily and fully because I know that the time on Earth is limited. What makes the life
precious is the inevitability of the death. Day by day, from birth, everyone is approaching a step closer
to his or her final hour. Even the Bible mentions in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a time for everything ...
a time to be born and a time to die . Many scientists tried to research the concept of mortality, and yet,
this matter needs further study, or it will remain unknown until each person encounters at a time of
death. I still remember the first decease scene I witnessed as a child; it was my great grandfather s. He
was an atheist for his whole life and neither did he believe the afterlife. In spite of this, right before he
ceased to breathe, my family heard him saying, I believe in God, I want an eternal life . I suppose that
my great grandfather wanted to have peace and be sincere before leaving this world which he could
not return. Notably, a lot of people throughout the times believed the afterlife. Egyptians, for example,
believe that the souls continue their life even after the death. Others, for instance, the Christians,
believe of resurrection at return of Jesus. Christian s burials are interesting that it is still a popular
tourist attraction in Rome. The tombs I will focus are the Christian catacombs and the St. Peter s, in
addition to development of Christianity and the Christian art traced along these sites.

Karrie J. Koesel s Religious Freedom And Restriction In China
Mahatma Gandhi once said, Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make

importance comes from its virtue, because true freedom and virtue go hand in hand. When people do
whatever they want without consequences, it takes away from the rights of others Americans,
therefore, losing its virtue and importance. If individuals were free to make wrong decisions, how
much people would really be free? True freedom derives from the virtues and morals of America,

In 1963, thirty fifth President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, made this point in his speech,
Address on Civil Rights , to address a situation of two black boys who needed guards to protect them
in their University. Kennedy s main point was that the discrimination on African Americans was no
longer a political issue but a moral one. In light of this, he called for Americans to think over the
incident and explained that all men are created equal and should be free. In addition, the author goes
on to say that all Americans, even those of color, should enjoy the same rights as any American and be
treated just as fair. Furthermore, the African American was not given the same rights or treatment;
they were not free. He calls upon the issue in a moral light and claims that the nation will not be fully
free until all its citizens are free (Kennedy). To explain, his point was that they cannot call this nation
the land of the free if they excluded people based on skin color. Given these points, Kennedy called
for action to make the country a place of equal freedom, as well as point out all he had done to
desegregate. He concluded by asking for the support of every citizen in making the country a place of
freedom for everyone. Americans can see the change in freedom, from what is was then to what it is
now. When Kennedy made this speech, America did not quite have true freedom. It lacked
universality. One

Resource Depletion And Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Lifecycle Analysis
Background
The content of analysis will examine paper. It will look at the harvesting of the materials, production,
distribution, and finally the waste. This lifecycle analysis is to explain a consumer product s life from
production to waste. This is to show the environmental effects that the products has during its life
time. A few of the environmental impacts that will be focused on is resource depletion and greenhouse
gas emissions. These were chosen because of the chain reaction they can cause. Greenhouse gases are
known to be linked to climate change, which is a global problem so the impacts of these emissions are
on a very large scale. Resource depletion is another problem because more than one species rely on
forest. Therefore, the depletion of it is not only bad to humans but the other organisms that use it for
their survival. If this resource was to be completely used up, then it could lead to a loss of biodiversity
which could be bad for the local ecosystem. In addition, since some ecosystems are linked together the
loss of one could have a huge effect on another causing a domino effect. LCA Inventory Trees are a
good source of paper; there are other materials that can work but for the scope of this paper I ll only

The Book Of Alice B. Toklas By Gertrude Stein
The Modernist writers were all about finding their own identity. There are those who were struggling
to find their own because they were close to the modernists that expressed it. Through
experimentation they were able to find an identity that they were comfortable with. Gertrude Stein
found a voice when she wrote about her life from the point of view of her partner Alice B. Toklas.
When it comes to writers talking about themselves they couldn t help but use the words and actions of
their own characters, to create an idea of experimenting that they are unable to reveal about
themselves or others that hey might have known. They are shadows of who they once were, but create
a new identity under those experiments. The idea of being a shadow of someone else s identity helps
shapes their own but, also the identity of the people that take on as they experiment with finding
themselves . The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein is one of the most known works
by the author. It is often seen as a simple read as compared to the rest of her works. Stein s works are
often seen as experimental. The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas could be seen experimental as well,
because she wanted to tell her story from the perspective of her partner through the eyes of her partner
Toklas. In the first chapter of the book, it may be the only thing that gives a voice to Toklas herself.

Analysis Of Serenity Prayer For My Family
Serenity Prayer for my Family The famous Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr reads, God, grant me
the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom
to know the difference. I chose this quote to start off my essay about self discovery, after
brainstorming and writing half an essay I came to a major writer s block while trying to cope with a
family upset this week. My sister delivered her baby at 26 weeks, facing a long road ahead of them.
Our family is trying to find a way to comfort them through their dismay. We cannot plan for hard
times like these, nor for the emotions felt over the last week, and as quoted above I accept that I can t
change the timing of all of this, but I can change the topic of my essay to something that I feel close to
my heart at this time. I believe as we go through trials holding to the Serenity Prayer, accepting what
we cannot change, having the courage to change what we can, and the wisdom to know the difference,
we will find peace through the storm. Montaigne said, Fear sometimes arises from want of judgment
as well as from want of courage. Going through life s challenges some might think ignorance is bliss
but to really experience life we must open our eyes. Montaigne continued by saying, All the dangers I
have seen, I have seen with open eyes, with my sight free, sound and entire; besides, it takes courage
to be afraid (368). In order to get through challenging times or new

Judith Slaying Holofernes
Judith Slaying Holofernes
Artemisia Gentileschi was not the first to paint Judith Slaying Holofernes. Her father had painted
Judith. Michelangelo, Botticelli and Caravaggio had painted Judith. Donatello had sculpted Judith.
But she was the first to interpret the story of Judith, in a time when women had few rights, as an
allegory for female dominance. In comparison with other contemporary versions, the composition,
dramatic style, and emotions of the characters present a violently feminist view that may have
stemmed from Gentileschi s own experiences. Judith Slaying Holofernes1, by Artemisia Gentileschi,
is an oil painting and was completed in 1620. It retells the Old Testament story of Judith, a Jewish
widow of noble rank. An ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Delilah was a beautiful Philistine who tricked Samson to achieve his ruin. Judith and Delilah both
used their beauty and intelligence against men, and were therefore both determined to be deceitful and
immoral. Judith came to be known as la belle dame sans merci, the beautiful lady without mercy.
In Cellini s Perseus4, and Giambologna s The Rape of the Sabine Women5, violence towards women
was moralized and perceived as normal. As the antithesis of this attitude, the character and deeds of
Judith were viewed as subversive and offensive. Francesco di Lorenzo, herald of the Signoria, asked
to have Donatello s Judith6 removed from the front of the Palazzo Vecchio in 1504 on the grounds
that Judith is an omen of evil it is not proper that the woman should kill the male.
Artists striving for any appearance of propriety created extremely feminine, quiet and bland Judiths,
perhaps to avoid the controversy Gentileschi wholeheartedly invited. Veronese s Judith7 (1570) is a
perfect example of this. Her hair is immaculately braided and her skin a porcelain white rivaling the
delicate pearls around her neck. She gazes into the distance as she daintily places the head of
Holofernes in the bag her servant holds out for her. Simply put, Judith appears as dead as the head she
holds. She is devoid of emotion, intelligence and humanity. Again, she is nothing but an allegory, a
warning for proud and arrogant men.

The Chambered Nautilus Comparison

a new one. The shell is a part of its old life, and once shed, loses its purpose. In Grass, soldiers die so
that many may live. Throughout history, the bodies pile[d]...high at Austerlitz and Waterloo (Sandburg

life to continue. Furthermore, both poems stress how nature is relentlessly static. In The Chambered

1) During My Introduction Speech, I Was Able To Find Out
1) During my introduction speech, I was able to find out both my strengths and shortcomings, in
regards to public speaking. My strengths during the intro speech were in keeping eye contact and a
natural ability to hold the attention of the audience. My shortcomings, however, were much more
pervasive, ranging from bad timing to using filler words. Most noticeably, was my lack of timing,
since the speech I gave lasted roughly 8 and a half minutes. The other noticeable crutch in my speech,
was the use of a filler phrase, that I repeated over and over again, which was I found it interesting. I

I felt that removing filler words or phrases would be the hardest of goals to accomplish this semester

minimize, the use of filler words and phrases when delivering a public speech. 3) The habits that I
witnessed in other speakers, that were not a problem for me were; lack of eye contact, bad body
language, nervousness and running short on time. The two biggest problems that I noticed from my
classmates speeches, were that the majority of them ran short on their speeches and most of them also
did not keep great eye contact while they were delivering their speeches. These two issues which most
of my classmates faced, apparently was not an issue for me because I went quite a bit over on time and
the according to the positive feedback which Professor Jaffe, gave me after completing my speech,
was that I did a good job engaging the room, by purposely making eye contact with people. I, also, did
not have bad body language like some of my classmates, who showed their hands in their pockets,

nervousness, it would be impossible for me to say that I wasn t somewhat nervous about giving a

My First Semester Of College At Embry Riddle
With any course, especially one with a focus as broad as leadership, the material covered may include
a range from useful to impractical. It is impossible to learn the skills necessary of an effective leader
completely out of a book, it takes the application of them to understand. The development of
leadership is vital to successfully moving forward in any career, so it would be beneficial to cultivate
these skills academically. Throughout my first semester of college at Embry Riddle, I noticed that
certain changes are evident, while others are more obscure. A significant development that I perceived
is through my writing and writing style, especially how it improved compared to my writing in high
school. Another change I discovered is how I seemed less introverted earlier in the semester, and now
I sense a regression to how I was like before college. However, I learned that after attending this
university for the past semester, I became more dedicated to my classes and other things that intrigue
me. This is due to how the curriculum and opportunities allows me to delve deeper into my interests.
For example, this university provides a range of different clubs, allowing me to join the ones that I am
curious about, such as Society of Flight Test Engineers. Due to what Embry Riddle offers the students
and the idea of attending college, this change brought the development of myself in several ways.
This honors course contained different sources that could be beneficial to me

A Brief Review Of Major Collins Running Out Of Music
Constance Squire s Running Out Of Music portrays Major Collins as a minor character, but in reality
his misunderstanding of music and the importance of it plays in Lucinda s development of identity
plays an integral role in the short story through the theme of the unknown importance of music.
Constance Squires uses Major Collins wrongful judging judging of the band Sex Pistols name to show
his stubbornness in accepting the importance of music. At this point in the story, Lucinda and her
father have just entered the army camp dormitory and are going to see Natley. Major Collins
introduces Natley and Lucinda and waits outside. Lucinda asks him to record some songs and it leads
into a conversation. Natley brings up the band Sex Pistols ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story is coming to an end. At this point Nately has already died and his room is being cleared out.
While this is happening, Major Collins thinks it would be a good idea to give Nately s music to
Lucinda. Major Collins told Lucinda, That reminds me sweetie, I keep forgetting to tell you. Yeah.
When I heard he died, I went over and got these for you. He pointed to behind where Lucinda is
standing. In the far corner of the room, under the windows, sat Nately s crates of records, lined up
against the wall. I didn t try for the turntable it looked like an expensive piece of equipment, so I
thought his folks might want it. But these would have probably just been thrown away, or all the other
GIs would have divided them up. I thought you should have them . (18 19). Nately s crates are In the
far corner of the room , which symbolizes how unconnected Collins is with music. Also, Major
Collins focuses on the price of Nately s items, as he describes the turntable as an expensive piece of
equipment . While on the other hand, Nately s music in Major Collins eye, is perceived as junk. The
music is seen as to Major Collins junk because Collins believes there is no monetary value so he
assumes that, these probably would have been just thrown away . He does not realize the significance

Modern Drama And Modern Criticism
Nothing is harder to bring to life for a modern reader than the theatre of the past, Michael Booth states
in his book, English Melodrama, as an opening to his chapter the character of melodrama . Booth
resumes by saying that to reconstruct extinct theaters, to inhabit them once again with noisy
audiences, and to light them with flickering candles, harsh hissing gas, and soft multi colored pools of
limelight picking out actors long forgotten, acting in old fashioned ways in front of creaking flats and
jerking wings, is to make dead eyes see and dead ears hear. After research on this topic, I realized that
the task is even more difficult when the kind of theatre under discussion is now extinct, and toward
which modern drama and modern criticism is unsympathetic. This is the case with the melodrama of
the nineteenth century, the most popular dramatic form of its age, a form that depended more on
graphic exhilaration and the thrill of the moment qualities almost beyond critical recall than anything
ever written for the stage. Now it is all gone, and I will hopefully through this essay bring some of this
back to life. Yet because of its energy and vividness, something of its nature can be imparted.
Melodrama had never been rated highly by dramatic critics or historians, whose most contemptuous
word is melodramatic. To describe and raise it out of the neglect and contumely where it has generally
remained all this century, to show it so that it can at least be

Difference Between Wooden Motte And Bailey Castles
Because of a lack of a strong central government during feudal society, wars happened often. For
protection every noble built a castle. The first proper castles were built in England after the Norman
Conquest in 1066. Wooden motte and bailey castles were the first type of castle to be built in England.
The tower of the keep was built a huge mound called a motte and had an enclosed courtyard called a
bailey. It would have been very difficult to get up the sides of the motte because they were so steep. A
ditch dug around the bottom of the motte also added protection. The bailey was located at the bottom
of the motte and could be up to three acres. Followers of the lord who ran the castle lived inside the
bailey. There were many buildings in the bailey including bakeries, kitchens, houses, stables, and
living quarters for soldiers.
Motte and bailey castles were quick and easy to build. Some could even be finished in a couple of
weeks. However, wooden buildings caught on fire easily and stone structures were much stronger.
Because of this, motte and bailey castles were soon replaced with stone castles.

They had two or three walls around the keep. Because the inside walls were built higher than the

Even if an enemy broke though the outer walls, there was a second castle defended and with supplies
waiting for them. Known as the death hole, being trapped between two walls of a castle would result
in almost certain death for the attacker. Some concentric castles even had moats for more protection.
After the invention of gun powder concentric castles became even more popular because they could

Second, the battling for death or for freedom, the slave did know this, so it was a point of no return

Century, Slave owners expanded their hold on the North American Continent, churning through new
land and bringing slaves from the older states to the newer, through a vast new domestic slave trade,

Italian Immigration And New Immigration
From 1890 onward became a part of what is known as New Immigration, which became known as the
third and largest wave of immigration to America from Europe. This wave consisted of Slavs, Jews,
and Italians. Three million Italians, which was the largest new immigrants, immigrated to America.
These immigrants represented all regions of Italy most of them being from Southern Italy. Italian
immigrants were driven from their homelands for the many hardships they faced and hoped that
America would benefit to their cause only to find that they were faced with new struggles.
Many Italians were often referred to as birds of passage because they had only planned on staying in
the United States temporarily just until they could gain enough money to support their life back in
Italy. Poverty, overpopulation, politics, and natural disasters have had Italians packing but only
temporarily. Poverty was the main reason that Italians felt the need to leave. With northern Italians in
control of the government high taxes and protective tariffs on northern industries hurt southern
Italians. Along with that, roughly eighty percent of Italians lived off of agriculture. Many farming
tools were inefficient due to the lack of modern technology, which did not allow for improvement.
Farmers often lived in a one room house with no plumbing or even privacy which were harsh
conditions in comparison to others. These people were isolated being that there were no roads, making

The Nature of Evil in William Shakespeare’ s Othello Essay
William Shakespeare’s Othello uses different and unique techniques in his language to express the
nature of evil throughout the play. Verbal twists and the characters most importantly stress the act of
evil. Iago, most of all is portrayed as the “villain” or “protagonist in the play. Shakespeare uses this
character to set the basis of evil. Each plot point is spiraled further into tragedy due to the nature of
Iago and his manipulative language towards the other main characters.
Corruption overcomes the Venetian society as Iago uses his crafty skills of deceit. The plan to have
Othello turn against the ones he loves is the perfect example of evil’s nature. The power struggle is

355,] By playing on his hopes, Iago is able to conjure money and jewels from Roderigo, making
himself a profit, while using Roderigo to further his other plans. He also thinks stealthy on his feet and

hand before the arrival of the Moor Othello, Iago says, With as little a web as this will I ensnare as
great a fly as Cassio. [II, i, 163] This language demonstrates the evil inside Iago’s goals of retrieving
absolute power. He actually even says of himself, I am an honest man.... [II, iii, 245] Iago slowly
corrupts the character’s thoughts, creating ideas in their minds without implicating himself. His
medicine works! Thus credulous fools are caught.... [II, i, 44] And what s he then that says I play the
villain, when this advice is free I give, and honest, [II, iii, 299] says Iago. In turn, people rarely stop to
consider the fact that old Iago could be deceiving and manipulating them; yet they are convinced that
he is Honest Iago. From these quotes from “Othello” it is proven that the dialogue used between
Iago and the others is manipulative causing an evil outcome.
Iago’s complexity in character grows as the play comes closer to a conclusion. The tricky and crafty
way Shakespeare uses the evil in Iago is to make him seem amoral as opposed to the typical immoral
villain. At the climactic end of the play, Iago s plot and plan is given away to Othello

DADA
Before Dada art was in form, after Dada art is an attitude
Dada was a radical art movement started in 1914 and ended in the mid 1920 s mainly in the North
Atlantic. It was created as a form of protest against World War 1 by immigrants who wanted to
express a new kind of mentality in the world of art and politics at the time. Dada was the reaction and
rejection of traditional society and the atrocities of World War 1 by artist of that era. It reflected their
desire to oppose convention and boundaries and establish art in a new light, breaking down
stereotypes and forcing people s perception of art to be broadened.

Dadaists pushed anarchy in their disgust with the government and the destruction the war caused on
their lives. Art was used to enforce political motives rather than portray conventionally accepted forms
of art. The Dadaist focus was to involve the audience into critical thinking that they hope would
stimulate a social revolution. Artists in Berlin included Johannes Baader, Hannah Hoch, George Gzosz
and Raoul Hausmann. Their art signified and encouraged revolution and independence, it comprised
of a lot of collage, typography and photomontage techniques all with the purpose of breaking away
from traditional canonized art.
Spontaneity in art was a significant feature in Dada. It was representative of Dada s breaking away
from constraints and we saw this in Dada s love for collage which is random and easily assembled
allowing the release of an easy flow of creative ideas, they believed that traditional art at that time,
being oil paintings, required a lot of time spent on perfecting imagery which negated and stifled the
artists ability to follow subconscious impulses. Collages and other Dada art were works that disturb or
humiliate traditional concepts of art .
In Cologne, Max Ernst and Hans Arp used Dada for its innovation and unconventional self

Gary Shteyngart s Super Sad True Love Story
A Super Sad Sorry Awful Novel Gary Shteyngart s novel, Super Sad True Love Story was a New York

this is not one of those novels. Motivation for reading this novel began to slip soon into the first

to be written in satire but throughout the entire book, I only found a select few lines witty or amusing.
There are a few appealing things worth mentioning among the atrocity that lies between the covers of
this novel. Each chapter is written in either a diary entry or messages and chats. This technique is
called epistolary which allows for an interesting look at each of the main character s voices. Leonard,

detailed descriptions of what he finds beautiful. Eunice is on the other side of the spectrum as she is

Oedipus The King Vs Jocasta Essay
Plays are meant to be watched not just to be read. A play by definition is a dramatic performance. Do
you realize there are many more benefits to watching plays rather than reading plays? Watching plays
keep all the characters in the storyline, permits you to see emotions and heightens your experiences.
When you watch a play the audience is aware of all the characters weather they have speaking lines or
not. When reading a play the reader loses characters that do not show up on the page as they have no
speaking lines. The characters have a presence on stage interacting with the other characters even
without dialogue. Characters may use body language without words to convey meanings. As seen in

Some of the ways the character emotions are expressed are by body language, facial expression and

in the play Oedipus the King, Jocasta appears on stage listening to Oedipus describe his fate. Her face
shows great concern as she covers her mouth in disbelief. The audience is aware that Jocasta
understands what has happened. She knows the entire plot. In print the reader is unaware that Jocasta
realizes the truth to the tragedy. Characters mood and emotions on stage add to the meaning of the
play. Plays are meant to be experienced. Characters come alive through their actions, mood, and
costumes. Watching a play becomes a multi sensory experience. The audience gains the benefit of the
playwright s script along with the actors interpretations and research. The stage lighting is used to add

Controversies Surrounding Classification
Theories of Psychopathology
HS513 T302
March 25, 2012
Abstract
The DSM is used as a standard of reference for psychological diagnosis. The DSM was originally
published in 1952 containing only 106 diagnoses; today the revised DSM IV TR contains 365
diagnoses. Throughout the history of the DSM, individuals in the mental health profession have relied
on it for clarification of disorders, facilitating research, improving communication with other
professionals and improving the collection of clinical information. With a new DSM V underway,
there has been a lot of issues surrounding the contents and classifications of the new DSM. There are

As time changes, the DSM has changed to fit society s needs as well as acceptance.
The first major controversy concerning classifications of mental disorders is the debate over
dimensions vs. categories. According to the APA (2000), DSM IV is a categorical classification that
divides mental disorders into types based on criterion sets with defining features. Categories have
been utilized in the past DSMs, however there has been much debate on changing to the dimensional
model. The debate stems from the notion that in order for a categorical diagnosis to relate specifically
to a disorder, the pathology would have to have been largely resilient to the influence of many other
genetic and environmental influences (Widiger Sankis, 2000). On the contrast, utilizing the
dimensional model for a diagnosis would utilize a wide variety of neurochemical, interpersonal,
cognitive, and other mediating and moderating variables that help to develop, shape, and form a
particular individual s psychopathology profile (Andreasen, 1997). The second major issue related to
classifications of mental disorders is the classification of the disorder vs. the classification of the
individual. When speaking about the classification of an individual, it stigmatizes the individual.

Influenced by this punk subcultural capital, the punks distinguished themselves from the mainstream
code of behavior. The subcultural capital not only differentiated from the widely accepted popular
culture , but also discriminated themselves from the high culture as well. Hebdige (1976) has argued
that subcultural knowledge often include class consciousness. As a matter of fact, the assertion of
subcultural distinction partly bases on the ideal of classlessness (Thornton, 1995). Storey also points
out that the class divides indeed exist between the subculture and the elite culture (Forgan, 2002).
Opposite from the high culture, which is often appeal to the taste of the elite class, the subcultural
capital is always less class bound and concerned more about the interests of lower class. Therefore, it
shapes people s dispositions against the dominate stereotypes, such as class, gender and religion. As
an illustration, the punks can come from all works of life and the diversity help to develop the punk
tastes and contributes to the accumulation of subcultural capital, these tastes may give a guide to
punks preference. In this way, the subcultural capital assists to develop its uniqueness.
Last but not the least, the subcultural capital singularise the culture through practice on the subcultural
production, which mainly are the music, fashion, art and literature. The subculture always identified

John Stamos started production on Fuller House but nothing seems to be going right. Radar Online,
August 28, 2015, reported that the show is having major problems. In fact, things are going so bad;
John may have to resort in asking Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen to come help the show out. Mary Kate
and Ashley played Michelle Tanner in the original show Full House. When he asked them to rejoin the
cast, they refused, saying that is wasn t good for their image. Other reports claim that the Olson twins

Athletic Program Risk Management Program
Athletic Program Risk Management
Athletic programs and their directors are not immune to legal liability due to an injury or harm to a
participant and spectators. The goal of a risk management plan for an athletic program is mitigate the
risk of injury or harm and develop a proactive plan of action to increase the level of safety for all
(Wolohan, 2013). Therefore, having a risk management plan in place minimizes the legal liability and
turns the focus to safety rather than the averting responsibility (Wolohan, 2013). In addition to safety,
a properly formed risk management program reduces the financial and physical risks that may occur
while an athletic event is taking place (Wolohan, 2013). Conducting a risk assessment is one of the ...

The final stage of risk assessment is to determine the method in which to diminish, remove, regulate
or manage the risk as to reduce financial loss or physical injury (Wolohan, 2013). Each of these three
steps are ongoing for any organization as it is the duty of those in charge to reduce any and all risk for
participants and spectators alike (Wolohan, 2013).
Identify Area of Risk
Identifying what the risks are will enable a sports manager to develop a plan of action to decrease the
liability to the organization. This can be done through yearly audits of physical facilities, athletic
programs, current emergency procedures or protocol, and employees of the organization. Furthermore,
identifying areas of risk is an ongoing process that needs to be a priority for sport and recreational
managers (Wolohan, 2013). The risks associated with the physical structure of buildings and bodily
injury are usually the main focus of assessments. The non tangible aspect of identifying risk is to
assess employees of an organization. Performing criminal background checks and drug testing of
potential hires and current employees is highly recommended (Wolohan, 2013). Within any
organization there is the potential for sexual harassment, discrimination, intentional torts, assault,
battery, and wrongful termination to name a few (Wolohan, 2013). Therefore, identifying

Literature Review Literature On Customer Satisfaction
Literature review:
Customer satisfaction has been a famous topic in marketing practice and study research since Cardozo

The most broader range accepted conceptualization of the customer satisfaction concept is the

Giving those people who are confuse a glimpse of what homosexual is trying to fulfill and accomplish. The strategy is somewhat helpful to those who wants to expose their sexual identity, but it doesn t change the fact that heterosexual are more accepted than homosexual. Coming out can be problematic depending on the environment, because not everybody is able to accept homosexuality. Society still wants to follow traditional, heterosexual, and gender role norms. Homosexual will face many criticism, discrimination and inequality, but they are somewhat similar to minorities who are also facing similar situation as homosexual. Following the Civil War four million slaves in the United States were granted their freedom, immediately after the Union Victory America experienced a period known as Reconstruction , defined by its efforts to rebuild the country and integrate African Americans into society as citizens. During this era, radical reconstruction began to gain popularity in the northern states and through this form of reconstruction the 14th amendment was ratified, giving equal protection to all citizens, the 15th amendment was approved and gave African Americans the right to vote, and public education systems for former slaves were placed (Orson). Nevertheless, carpetbaggers quickly became an unstoppable force and infamously made their mark in society, as they became wealthy plantation owners who hired freedmen as well as white southerners for labor they contributed to the massive agricultural practice which dominated the south: sharecropping. Sharecropping was a new form of slavery, though slaves were technically free they eventually needed to work and provide a stable income for themselves and their family, so slaves who did not return to their old masters turned to carpetbaggers for employment. In the book Animal Farm and the short story Mousland, one group has too much power and it influences the rules; which shows the theme that if there is too much power in one group there is no equality within the rules. The authors of Animal Farm and Mousland use the narrative techniques of characterization and conflict to illustrate political messages, about power influencing, how the rules affect equality. The authors Tommy Douglas and George Orwell use characterization to show the political message that too much power affects the rules that affect equality. In the book Animal Farm the animals have taken over the farm from the humans and started producing their own goods. In the book Animal Farm, page 35 it says, The animals had assumed as a matter of course that these would be shared out equally; one day, however, the order went forth that all the windfalls were to be collected and brought to the harness room for the use of the pigs... Even the Bible mentions in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a time for everything ... a time to be born and a time to die . Many scientists tried to research the concept of mortality, and yet, this matter needs further study, or it will remain unknown until each person encounters at a time of death. I still remember the first decease scene I witnessed as a child; it was my great grandfather s. He was an atheist for his whole life and neither did he believe the afterlife. In spite of this, right before he ceased to breathe, my family heard him saying, I believe in God, I want an eternal life . I suppose that my great grandfather wanted to have peace and be sincere before leaving this world which he could not return. Notably, a lot of people throughout the times believed the afterlife. Egyptians, for example, believe that the souls continue their life even after the death. Others, for instance, the Christians, believe of resurrection at return of Jesus. Christian s burials are interesting that it is still a popular tourist attraction in Rome. The tombs I will focus are the Christian catacombs and the St. Peter s, in addition to development of Christianity and the Christian art traced along these sites. What is tomb? In 1963, thirty fifth President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, made this point in his speech, Address on Civil Rights , to address a situation of two black boys who needed guards to protect them in their University. Kennedy s main point was that the discrimination on African Americans was no longer a political issue but a moral one. In light of this, he called for Americans to think over the incident and explained that all men are created equal and should be free. In addition, the author goes on to say that all Americans, even those of color, should enjoy the same rights as any American and be treated just as fair. Furthermore, the African American was not given the same rights or treatment; they were not free. He calls upon the issue in a moral light and claims that the nation will not be fully free until all its citizens are free (Kennedy). To explain, his point was that they cannot call this nation the land of the free if they excluded people based on skin color. Given these points, Kennedy called for action to make the country a place of equal freedom, as well as point out all he had done to desegregate. He concluded by asking for the support of every citizen in making the country a place of freedom for everyone. Americans can see the change in freedom, from what is was then to what it is now. • 10. Resource Depletion And Greenhouse Gas Emissions Lifecycle Analysis Background The content of analysis will examine paper. It will look at the harvesting of the materials, production, distribution, and finally the waste. This lifecycle analysis is to explain a consumer product s life from production to waste. This is to show the environmental effects that the products has during its life time. A few of the environmental impacts that will be focused on is resource depletion and greenhouse gas emissions. These were chosen because of the chain reaction they can cause. Greenhouse gases are known to be linked to climate change, which is a global problem so the impacts of these emissions are on a very large scale. Resource depletion is another problem because more than one species rely on forest. Therefore, the depletion of it is not only bad to humans but the other organisms that use it for their survival. If this resource was to be completely used up, then it could lead to a loss of biodiversity which could be bad for the local ecosystem. In addition, since some ecosystems are linked together the loss of one could have a huge effect on another causing a domino effect. • 12. The Book Of Alice B. Toklas By Gertrude Stein The Modernist writers were all about finding their own identity. There are those who were struggling to find their own because they were close to the modernists that expressed it. Through experimentation they were able to find an identity that they were comfortable with. Gertrude Stein found a voice when she wrote about her life from the point of view of her partner Alice B. Toklas. When it comes to writers talking about themselves they couldn t help but use the words and actions of their own characters, to create an idea of experimenting that they are unable to reveal about themselves or others that hey might have known. They are shadows of who they once were, but create a new identity under those experiments. The idea of being a shadow of someone else s identity helps shapes their own but, also the identity of the people that take on as they experiment with finding themselves . The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein is one of the most known works by the author. It is often seen as a simple read as compared to the rest of her works. Stein s works are often seen as experimental. The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas could be seen experimental as well, because she wanted to tell her story from the perspective of her partner through the eyes of her partner Toklas. • 13. Analysis Of Serenity Prayer For My Family Serenity Prayer for my Family The famous Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr reads, God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. I chose this quote to start off my essay about self discovery, after brainstorming and writing half an essay I came to a major writer s block while trying to cope with a family upset this week. My sister delivered her baby at 26 weeks, facing a long road ahead of them. Our family is trying to find a way to comfort them through their dismay. We cannot plan for hard times like these, nor for the emotions felt over the last week, and as quoted above I accept that I can t change the timing of all of this, but I can change the topic of my essay to something that I feel close to my heart at this time. I believe as we go through trials holding to the Serenity Prayer, accepting what we cannot change, having the courage to change what we can, and the wisdom to know the difference, we will find peace through the storm. Montaigne said, Fear sometimes arises from want of judgment as well as from want of courage. Going through life s challenges some might think ignorance is bliss but to really experience life we must open our eyes. Michelangelo, Botticelli and Caravaggio had painted Judith. Donatello had sculpted Judith. But she was the first to interpret the story of Judith, in a time when women had few rights, as an allegory for female dominance. In comparison with other contemporary versions, the composition, dramatic style, and emotions of the characters present a violently feminist view that may have stemmed from Gentileschi s own experiences. Judith came to be known as la belle dame sans merci, the beautiful lady without mercy. In Cellini s Perseus4, and Giambologna s The Rape of the Sabine Women5, violence towards women was moralized and perceived as normal. As the antithesis of this attitude, the character and deeds of Judith were viewed as subversive and offensive. Francesco di Lorenzo, herald of the Signoria, asked to have Donatello s Judith6 removed from the front of the Palazzo Vecchio in 1504 on the grounds that Judith is an omen of evil it is not proper that the woman should kill the male. Artists striving for any appearance of propriety created extremely feminine, quiet and bland Judiths, perhaps to avoid the controversy Gentileschi wholeheartedly invited. Veronese s Judith7 (1570) is a perfect example of this. Her hair is immaculately braided and her skin a porcelain white rivaling the delicate pearls around her neck. She gazes into the distance as she daintily places the head of Holofernes in the bag her servant holds out for her. Simply put, Judith appears as dead as the head she holds. She is devoid of emotion, intelligence and humanity. Again, she is nothing but an allegory, a warning for proud and arrogant men. Carlo Saraceni s Judith8 (1615) has a smiling Judith holding ... Soldiers know their likely fate going into battle, yet they continue so that civilization will work past a conflict worth greater than themselves. As seen in both poems, old life is cast aside in order for life to continue. Furthermore, both poems stress how nature is relentlessly static. • 24. Modern Drama And Modern Criticism Nothing is harder to bring to life for a modern reader than the theatre of the past, Michael Booth states in his book, English Melodrama, as an opening to his chapter the character of melodrama . Booth resumes by saying that to reconstruct extinct theaters, to inhabit them once again with noisy audiences, and to light them with flickering candles, harsh hissing gas, and soft multi colored pools of limelight picking out actors long forgotten, acting in old fashioned ways in front of creaking flats and jerking wings, is to make dead eyes see and dead ears hear. After research on this topic, I realized that the task is even more difficult when the kind of theatre under discussion is now extinct, and toward which modern drama and modern criticism is unsympathetic. This is the case with the melodrama of the nineteenth century, the most popular dramatic form of its age, a form that depended more on graphic exhilaration and the thrill of the moment qualities almost beyond critical recall than anything ever written for the stage. Now it is all gone, and I will hopefully through this essay bring some of this back to life. Yet because of its energy and vividness, something of its nature can be imparted. The first proper castles were built in England after the Norman Conquest in 1066. Wooden motte and bailey castles were the first type of castle to be built in England. The tower of the keep was built a huge mound called a motte and had an enclosed courtyard called a bailey. It would have been very difficult to get up the sides of the motte because they were so steep. A ditch dug around the bottom of the motte also added protection. The bailey was located at the bottom of the motte and could be up to three acres. Followers of the lord who ran the castle lived inside the bailey. There were many buildings in the bailey including bakeries, kitchens, houses, stables, and living quarters for soldiers. Motte and bailey castles were quick and easy to build. Categories have been utilized in the past DSMs, however there has been much debate on changing to the dimensional model. The debate stems from the notion that in order for a categorical diagnosis to relate specifically to a disorder, the pathology would have to have been largely resilient to the influence of many other genetic and environmental influences (Widiger Sankis, 2000). On the contrast, utilizing the dimensional model for a diagnosis would utilize a wide variety of neurochemical, interpersonal, cognitive, and other mediating and moderating variables that help to develop, shape, and form a particular individual s psychopathology profile (Andreasen, 1997).
