Body Modification in America Essay
Body modification in American Culture
In recent years tattooing and body piercing have become increasingly prevalent in popular culture.
These forms of body modification are no longer tools used by criminals and gang member, showing
their role in society. These practices are used by many of teenagers and young adults in our society
today. In fact many of these practices have been a positive trend in American culture, giving
adolescents a way of expressing themselves
Studies have revealed a positive correlation between risky behaviors (such as the use of drugs,
cigarettes, and alcohol) and participation in body modification. There is a shortage of available
research, however, investigating the relationship between body modification and ... Show more

Results suggested different levels of high risk behavior.
There are many reasons for individuals to acquire body modifications. One possible reason for body
modifications is to gain attention through displays of extravagance such as those that are found in
people with histrionic disorder (Durand amp; Barlow, 2000). A study by Burger amp; Finkel (2002)
investigated reasons why people adorn their bodies with tattoos and body piercing. They also
researched unmodified participants perceptions of body art. When the researchers polled participant
group as to their perceptions of body modifications, they found that many people associate tattoos and
body piercing with risky behaviors and view them as symbols of drug abuse and violence (Burger
amp; Finkel, 2002). They found that a main motivation for people to modify their bodies is to increase
self esteem. The people polled found body art as beautiful and felt more beautiful when they acquired
it. A study conducted at Denison University by Lyons and Snyder (1996) described the reasons why
college men and women had tattoos and body piercing. The main reason cited by the men with body
modifications for getting tattooed or pierced was to identify themselves with a certain group. Women,
however, rated their tattoos and piercing to make themselves more individualized or sexually
appealing. Other popular reasons for displaying body modifications are to carry on cultural traditions

Fees For High School Sports
Sports in conjunction with academics are capable of creating a balance that makes for a well rounded
citizen and healthy, happy employee. Issues in the mix often come from the balance itself. Many
students find themselves overcommitted to sport while others find they are not able to compete. I will
examine issues in interscholastic and collegiate sport.
Sports cannot always be completely free due to issues outside the realm of sport, but it should be as
inexpensive as possible to participate. Fees for high school sports should follow certain guidelines.
First off, there should always be a minimum cost sport option for high school students. For example,
any student should be allowed to participate in track and cross country since these sports require little
to no equipment and have little limits on team size. Second, high schools should not make a net profit
or loss on sports. High school sports should act as their own entities with their own funding from the
school board, and they should never take from academics and vice versa. Third, different costs for
sports should be controlled vehemently before charging fees to play. There should be no more than 1
paid coach per team, and if there is more than 1 paid coach, there should be no fees to play the sport
since only one experienced coach should be needed to share knowledge with the entire team and
volunteer coaches. Other controllable costs include equipment. Sports equipment and jerseys should
be used for as long as

(The Muckrakers) The muckrakers were so important because not everyone was able to make an
impact like that in the era. By the second decade of the twentieth century, the movement had won the
support of both Democrats and Republicans. By the end they made a big impact. Women did get the
vote. Alcohol was outlawed. Child and female labor were regulated. The educational system was
revamped. Congress passed laws to regulate the manufacture of food and medicine. Also the largest
monopolistic trusts were taken out of court and broken up. The effect on the soul of the nation was
profound. It can hardly be considered an accident that the heyday of the muckrakers coincided with
one of America s most yeasty and vigorous periods of ferment. The people of the country were
aroused by the corruptions and wrongs of the age and it was the muckrakers who informed and
aroused them. The results showed in the great wave of progressivism and reform cresting in the
remarkable spate of legislation that marked the first administration of Woodrow Wilson from 1913 to

heme Literary Analysis Try things that is unfamiliar to you, you might enjoy it. There is a common
theme in the passage Learning to Skate and Brown Onions. In addition, there are similarities and
differences in the authors approach to the theme. In Learning to Skate, Linda doesn t want to skate,
but finds out that she likes it ,after she tries it. Similarly, in Brown Onions, Erika thinks she hates
onions, but after she tries them she likes them. One similar theme in each text is that you don t know
what you like until you try it. On the other hand, there is a difference between the two texts. In one

In Learning to Skate, Her mom forced her to go. In Brown Onions, her dad made a bet with her to try
the onions. In the first text, Learning to Skate, the way she tried skating was her mom forced her to do
it. I know this because the text states, This is the last weekend the rink is open, her mother said. I m
going out of town for work. And you re going skating with your father, (par. 20). This shows that the
events in the story are influenced by the characters and in this story Linda s mom forces her to skate.
In Brown Onions, the text states, I ll make you a deal. You try a cheeseburger with these onions on it,
and if they are as bad as you say they are, I ll eat anything you want, (par. 18). Furthermore, Deal. Call
me when they re done, (par. 23). This proves that in, Brown Onions, her dad makes a bet with her
instead of forcing her to try new things. In the end, in these texts, Learning to Skate and Brown
Onions, share a common theme. The plot in each story is different because of the way they tried new
things. In one story, the child is forced to try something new. While in the other story, the father makes

Why We Crave Horror Movies
In his article Why We Crave Horror movies, Stephen King stresses the fact that we are all mentally ill,
and explains why watching horror films is an effective way to deal with our inner insanity. According
to King, we are all insane by human nature, and are made up of anticivilization emotions. These
emotions are integral parts of our personalities, and in order to stay healthy, they demand periodic
exercise. But living in society has taught us to repress these emotions, which is why he argues that
watching horror films provide us with this psychological relief, allowing us to indirectly deal with
anticivilization emotions. According to King, horror movies deliberately appeal to the worst in us, and
therefore, perform the dirty job of satisfying our inner monsters. I disagree with King because horror
movies can also have negative effects. In addition, people have different ways of channeling out
uncivilized emotions.
Horror movies can have negative psychological effects. Although some people enjoy the thrill and
nastiness of horror movies, I, for one, do not. Watching horror films give me nightmares, and make me
extra paranoid. Rather than my inner psyche feeling satisfied, I feel disturbed. Watching horror films
can also cause heightened stress and anxiety. Under more serious conditions, horror films can even
cause PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A woman named Caroline appeared on the Dr. Phil
show, who after watching a horror film called Psycho,

Feedbac Leadership Essay
1. Leadership is both an inherent value and is forged overtime. Inherently, some people are born good
leaders and intrinsically have good values imbedded. Leadership traits can be honed and developed
overtime; you never stop learning to be a good leader. Leadership is the cornerstone of all successfully
run organizations and is what drives stewardship to successfully carry on the organizations mission
statement. Throughout one s life experiences, they come across some great leaders and some not so
great leaders. Those life experiences transcend one to become a better leader through experiential
circumstances.
2. In order to effectively lead and understand where there is a possible disconnect, one must ask for
proper feedback to collectively remedy the situation. Proper feedback correlates directly with the third
pillar of the Coast Guard values; Devotion to Duty. If we, as leaders, cannot gauge the environment

Animal Cells And Their Functions
Animal cells and their functions
Cell Membrane
The cell surface membrane is a semi permeable membrane whose function is to control the exchange
of substances between the cell and its environment. Semi permeable means that only certain molecules
are allowed to be transported in and out of the cell. The membrane is mainly made up of Lipid and
protein. On the diagram, the Cell Membrane forms the outer shell of the animal cell, and can be seen
as the bold line around it.
Nucleus
The Nucleus has a sphere shaped body that encloses a variety of organelles, including the nucleolus,
and is home to the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) of a cell inside the
chromosomes. It is typically seen as the largest part of the animal cell. The nucleus controls many of
the functions and activities inside an animal cell, and is known as the control centre of a cell. On the
diagram, the nucleolus can be located as the black dot in the middle of the Nucleus, and is the main
site for ribosome formation.
Nuclear Membrane
The Nuclear Membrane surrounds the Nucleus, which is known as a Porous Membrane. This is
covered in pores, which are tiny holes that allow the exchange of RNA to move between the nucleus
and the cytoplasm. Proteins that are desired by the Nucleus are also able to move through these pores.
Nucleolus
The Nucleolus is the organelle structure inside the nucleus; it supports the synthesis of ribosomes,
which is where the Ribosomal RNA is produced. Some cells

challenge women face is the fundamental right to have a family, which includes the Pregnancy

A Comparison of Two James Bond Posters
Dr No in 1962 was the first James Bond film released and The World Is Not Enough is one of the most
recent Bond films to have been released in 1999. The two film posters are distinctively different,
which would be expected as the films were released decades apart from eachother.
The first poster for Dr No shows that James Bond is a new, never seen before film as the logo 007 is
printed on the poster more than once in bold lettering, and the name James Bond is also printed,
whereas in the poster for the World Is Not Enough the 007 logo is only used once in small lettering

This also may have something to do with the fact that in the 90 s, the first female head of MI5 was
introduced into the films.
The genre of the film is far more evident in the poster for The World Is Not Enough . The images used
connote an action film that has many different narratives. The poster is lively and eye catching and is
full of bright, vivid images. The poster fits in very well with the title of the film, as it looks like James
Bond is going to embark on some international mission, the image of some of the continents in flames
shows this. There are also several images circling around the main characters in the film, which look
futuristic and scientific and feature explosions and car chases. Comparing the two posters also shows
how technology and science has progressed through the decades and this is very apparent in the 1999
film poster, which looks far more advanced, as far as gadgets and weapons go.
The Dr No poster does not specify the genre so well. It could be for several different genres. It
indicates that it could possibly be a spy or mystery film, which is partly true of the James Bond
movies.
James Bond is shown in the Dr No film poster as a silhouette, it suggests that he could be a very

When we look to Christ for help He changes us. We will not be able to tell over night, but years from
now looking back you can tell when filled with the Holy Spirit.
For me what I can relate to is thinking I will notice a change within a day, but as I learned that can
take years. Looking back on my life I have seen how God has kept his hand on me all through life,
even when I was not following Christ. Going to a military school for six months is when change
accrued in my life. Of courses, I knew I was doing something different, but I did not see the change at
the time. Growing up I was surrounded by negative people at home and at school. I can remember one
day I got in trouble at school, so when I got back to my aunt s house, she came in the room I was in
and told me right in front of my cousin, You are an embarrassment to this family. That hit me so hard,
because in the office at school they called me a bully and in the hallways, I was known as a weirdo.
Then at home I was thought of as an embarrassment. I felt nothing but anger and depression, telling
myself, Nobody loves you. Destiny, your own family does not care about you, NOBODY does! The
reason I say the military school changed me is because I had accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and
Savior. I did not see the change right then and there, but I did know God had a plan for me. While I
was in the program I learned that I cannot hold on to the past and let people determine who I am. I was

Finally, comparability requires the accounting information should be compared with each other. There

The comparability quality characteristic can help financial report users comprehend the financial
condition, opening result and the trend of cash flow easily, and then compare the information during

order to help analyzing financial condition and other alteration circumstances of different business

becoming one of the most indispensable and advantageous qualitative characteristics of accounting
information (Putra, 2009). Although the four qualitative characteristics are the most important link
between the accounting objectives and achieving the objectives, there are also some elements restrict
them. To begin with, accounting information has dubious quality itself, which affects the

The awkward thing about the family in Rocking Horse Winner is that they all maintain an upper class

VAP is a growing problem in health care facilities which increases the cost of patient care and
increases patient care time, hospital length of stay, and patient morbidity. Ventilator associated
pneumonia increases healthcare costs by more than $40,000 per hospitalized patient (Lisboa, Kollef,
Rello, 2008). Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services plan to stop paying hospitals for necessary
care caused by preventable complications including nosocomial infections resulting in unintended
fiscal circumstances (Lisboa et al.). 2 The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) established
recommended guidelines to decrease the risk of VAP. It is these best practice interventions that nurses
should follow when caring for mechanically ventilated patients. The 2003 CDC guidelines reported
that 63% of admitted patients in the ICU have oral colonization associated with a pathogen resulting
from VAP (Cason, Tyner, Saunders, Broome, 2007). The CDC provided a set of seven guidelines to
reduce risks related to hand washing, wearing gloves, suctioning, elevated head of bed (HOB),
education, oral hygiene program, and use of antiseptic rinse. Studies suggested that best practices for
reducing VAP were not consistently implemented. According to the Centers for Disease Control,
Pseudomonas aeruginosa and gram positive Staphylococcus aureus were the two most common
bacteria linked to VAP (Babcock et al., 2004). Pseudomonas

The Poetry Of Edgar Allan Poe
When hearing the name Edgar Allan Poe, it is simple to know who is being talked about, the mostly
grim, melancholy, and dark poet. Along with many other people who have been through rough times,
Poe expresses his past experiences and pain through a work specific to him, short stories and poems.
Edgar Allan Poe uses his life s story to write pieces that display the time period he lived in, the
influences on his poetry, and solid topics that are critiqued. First off, Poe discreetly uses certain dialect
in his work that brings attention to the time period he lived in. Due to Poe being born in Boston 19
January 1809 , he had more of what now seems to be older and formal dialect in his work (Kennedy
page 734). Back then, a romantic and time consuming thought that was a love that the wingèd seraphs
of Heaven Coveted where the bond between two people was seemingly unbreakable (Poe line 11). The
use of the word wingèd implies that Poe lived in an earlier century due to the fact that no one today
talks like that. Edgar Allan Poe uses many phrases to indicate what time period he lived in. When he
died Sunday October 7 in 1849, it was still in the time period of formal and proper speech (Kennedy
page 734). To be shut up in a sepulcher was the kind of thing Poe would reference in his work in one
way or another, but this would not be said like that today. The people of this century would say
phrases including six feet under , one foot in the grave , tombstone , etc. which is significantly less
sophisticated than the phrases that were used during Poe s time. Next, Poe had a rough life that greatly
influenced his writing. Edgar Allan Poe went through embrace and joy with people in which they
loved with a love that was more than a love , for example, his fourteen year old first cousin, Virginia
Clemm (Poe line 9) (Bleiler page 596). Such love led Poe to creating portions of his works based on
this overwhelming feeling of excitement, sincerity, and loyalty. However, as it is well too known, not
everything is picture perfect. Poe, much like everyone else, had many tragic heartaches. One of his
most significant heartaches would be Virginia s death in 1847 where she died due to illness (Prida
page 225).

Over time there has been alot of president s that has been in and out of the white house. Some of the
president s have done a great job in office some president s didn t do so good in the white house.
People in general have all sorts of different opinions on president s some people may say one
president was the best while another person may disagree. In my opinion out of all the president s
there is a man named Abraham Lincoln who i think was one of the greatest president s of all time. One
of are president s in the present who i think does not do a very good job in office is president Barack
Obama. There are a lot of reason s why i put these two in the catogories i did and in my essay i am

Abraham Lincoln was not perfect but he was a great president.
President Obama in my opinion is one of the worst president s to ever step in office. Obama who was
born in born August 4, 1961, he is the 44th and current president of the United States. Obama in my
opinion can t keep the promise s that he makes. Obama promised to keep the unemployment rate
under 8% and making it seem a failure though the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said it
saved more than 3 million jobs and prevented a double digit jobless rate. Obama is forcing american s
to have health care not all american s can afford healthcare. They also voted on the Obamacare and
people hated it but we ended up being forced to get it anyway and for the people that can t afford it get
punished by having to pay a fine for not having it. Obama is not a strong leader at all he has driven us
so far in debt that it is unreal. To me obama doesnt seem devoted at all how can you make a health
care plan and pretty much tell people if there over 75 there just out of luck for health care in my
opinion that is sad. Obama does not take credit for his actions , when he fails to keep his promises he
points the finge at somebody else instead of taking responsibility for it. When the United States went
into a goverment shut down instead of Obama and standing up and being a leader and figuring out a
solution the shut down continued for

Blackberry was the first one to introduce the email services in the handset, making communication
extremely easy for all its customers and it became very popular amongst the corporate executives, as
now accessing work (emails) was just a click away. With this innovation blackberry found its market
mainly amongst the corporate users. They came up with various corporate plans and were extremely
successful. The world became a small place with wireless connections. (Gustin, 2013). Till the year
2007 BlackBerry was the most successful company in the cell phone market and it was known for the
innovative products and services. In the year 2007, BlackBerry was announced as the most valuable
company in Canada with worth of more than 67 Billion and in the same period there were 10 million
subscribers registered to the services as well as new Blackberry devices. There were several reasons
that caused the downfall of BlackBerry. The first reason was lack of vision and strategy whereas the
other cause was managerial decision making. The company s business was affected a lot due to
introduction of IPhone in the market and business started to decline at a rapid pace. The innovative
practices of IPhone took BlackBerry from profits to losses. The other groundbreaking moment for
BlackBerry was in 2008 when Google launch its Play Store that became a backbone for the android
mobile phone users. Google s innovation attracted many mobile phone users and it decreased the

The Four Gospels Pertaining To The New Testament
The gospel of Luke is one of the four gospels pertaining to the New Testament. The Gospel of Luke is
the most extensive historical account of the life of Jesus. It was originally written for a certain
Theophilus, probably a Gentile of high social standing, and intended to inform him extensively of the
life and work of Christ. Throughout this gospel the person of Jesus is presented as the perfect Man
who always lived according to the will of God. And the account that Luke offers us of his life appears
divided in two basic parts: the coming to the world of the Son of God and the return to his glory. It
narrates from before the birth of John the Baptist, until the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In this gospel Luke tells the story of Jesus

Essay On Periodic Swarms
Periodic spatiotemporal swarms mining periodic swarms, even though there are some redundant
periodic swarms. To solve this problem we use parsimonious periodic swarm mining method which is
more efficient and effective. In the Figure ref{example6}(a), we see that periodic swarms $(left
{o_1, o_2right}, left{T_1, T_3right}, L_1)$ and $(left{o_1, o_2right}, left{T_2, T_3right},
L_1)$ are subsumed by the periodic swarms $(left{o_1, o_2right}, left{T_1, T_2, T_3right},
L_1)$. Thus, we reduce redundant periodic swarms and find significant parsimonious periodic swarms
in the Figure ref{example6}(b). begin{figure}[htp] centering includegraphics[width = .9textwidth]

Therefore, the closed swarms are not greater than the number of long time spatiotemporal swarms.
Furthermore, mining parsimonious periodic swarms we use periodic swarms according to the
definitions ref{ps} and ref{parsimonious}. Parsimonious periodic swarms subsumed periodic
swarms. If any swarms are not subsumed by other swarms, then the number of parsimonious periodic
swarms equal to the number of periodic swarms, i.e., $|PPS|^{swarms}leq |PS|^{swarms}$.
Contrariwise, if some periodic swarms subsumed by other periodic swarms, then the number of
parsimonious periodic swarms is less than the number of periodic swarms that cause $|PPS|^{swarms}
|PS|^{swarms}$. begin{myex} Suppose, $min_{object}$ = 2, $min_{time}$ = 2, then the Figure

swarms is 16. After mining closed swarms from long time spatiotemporal swarms in Figure
ref{example3}(b) depicts the number is 11 that is less than 16. Then, we mine 13 periodic swarms in
the Figure ref{example4}(b) that is less than 16 long time swarms. Finally, in the Figure

Why Did The Stock Market Crash
On October 24, 1929 the Stock Market Crashed causing the economy to fall. This brought the nation
to its lowest point, called the Great Depression. This had a huge negative effect on the United States
and on many families. Most of the United States capital was represented by stocks and when it
crashed most of the money was gone and the economy plunged. The Stock Market crashed because
Americans thought it was a quick and easy way to get rich. They were caught up in the fact of living
wealthy and not having any struggles.1 People that have invested in the stocks and owned shares sold
them to make money. Inexperienced investors expected to get wealthy quick in the growing market.
This was ineffective because the shares didn t sell for much. Stocks fell from $2, $5 and $10 and
plunged $11 billion in the first 3 hours of trading. On October 29, 1929 (Black Tuesday) one of the
biggest booms happened and the Market fell to the lowest point. ... Show more content on

The Syrian connection Once famous for its rich history and tradition the ancient city of Aleppo, has
now been reduced to ruins in the ongoing Syrian civil war. But, centuries before this massacre, this
city had witnessed one of the most significant incidents in the history of cricket. According to the
written documents, in 1676, it was in Aleppo where the game of cricket was first played outside the
British territories. Back in the 17th century, the city used to be a trading hub and it attracted a lot of
British traders and sailors. By that time back in England, Cricket had already been evolved and it was
quite popular amongst the travelling Englishmen, who carried the game outside the isles. Henry
Teonge of Wolverton, Worcestershire, was one such traveller, who came to Aleppo during that time
and documented in his diary about the game of Krickett , which used to be played amongst the
Britishers as a pastime. One entry in his diary on May 6, 1676, read, This morning early at least 40 of
the English, with his worship the Consull, rod out of the cytty about 4 miles to the Greene Platt, a fine

St. Augustine The Human Condition
The major theme, The Human Condition , focused on the difference between the body and the soul as
well as their dualism, the soul being of three types: the nutritive soul, the sensitive soul, and the
intellectual soul. Through the readings of St. Augustine s The Confessions, Augustine leads the
audience to the idea that we are all individuals, but there is something common in our human
experience as he shares and examines the journey of his soul in order for the audience to reflect upon
this and see in his story the journey of our own soul. One story told by Augustine is referred to as the
Pear Tree. In this story, Augustine and a friend steal an unripe pear from a pear tree next door without

The Influence of Television on Human Behavior
The role of the television is pretty simple; to entertain. Almost everyone on this planet own one or
more television(s). The television as we used to know is no longer in black and white or just a tiny box
but it is massively upgrading with the hi tech today that s why we see only see the flat screen TVs
now. It is almost as flat as this board. With these new modern technology, the human behavior is also
rapidly changing like I previously mentioned in my first topic. The human needs and wants is
basically a major issue covering our everyday life but here I am explaining it further in a monkey see,
monkey do situation which technically means what we see is what we do or a better way is copying.
So within this situation, we often get influenced by the media. For instance, a zombie movie. What do
we see in a zombie movie? Assassinations, survival, cool gadgets, awesome stunts and cute movie
casts. So by observing the cool aspects from the movie, we would basically start picturing ourselves
doing it even worse we are actually doing it by imagining everyone on earth is a zombie and you d
want to run around chopping their heads off. This where the human behavior really takes place.
The main problem is we actually start believing in fantasies which slowly turns to reality where
people might actually think you re crazy. Remember when The Matrix was released? Yes, we would
literally see people doing slow motion acts which was fun because it was so influential that it became

James Bond Stereotypes
Dr. No (1962) and Rising Sun (1994) are heavy loaded with stereotypes. 32 years apart and for sure
appearance of Sean Connery has changed and stereotypes seem less striking but very present in Rising
Sun specially towards oriental people, women and Blacks. Fifty years ago, the release of Dr. No, the
famous fiction British master spy James Bond film starring Sean Connery, launched one of the longest
running and most successful franchises in movie history. World needed a hero of the cold war era and
in real danger of nuclear war there was nothing to worry about so long as Agent 007 was on the case.
Bond was given a license to kill and to stereotype. As I watched first James Bond movie Dr. No a big

Pericles Funeral Oration Summary
Pericles Funeral Oration
Thucydides
431 BC
Secondary
1. The authors main point was to tell of Pericles grand speech he told at the annual funeral in Athens
for all who fell during war. Pericles main point of the speech was to not only tell of those who had
fallen achievements, but also of his personal view of Athens, and how skillful and mighty their
Athenian army was.
2. Thucydides wrote Pericles Funeral oration for his history of the Pelopponesian War. I can infer that
he is a historian who went into depth explaining the Athenians culture to honor their dead, and wrote
his speech. In Pericles speech, he is honoring the fallen Athenian heroes, and praising their form of
government democracy. He tells of how this allows men to act without judgment, and how Athens is
superior then others.
3. The author is not biased, and writes just of Pericles speech. Pericles point of view is that Athens is
superior over every other city. He tells of how they do not have to train their military from a young
age like the Spartans, and how they do not go to war with full strength, but divide their attention
between their navy and other troops, unlike the Spartans who start training at very young age, while
both are just as ready to fight. He also speeks of how their ancestors brought them a free country by

Garcia-Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings Essay
Garcia Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings Symbolism is often used to subtlely
enhance a story s meaning by adding emphasis and details to the story line. However, Garcia
Marquez, in A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , cloaks his tale for children in a dreamlike
quality conveyed purely through symbolism. Clues to his intended meaning can be drawn from the old
winged man whom the story revolves around, from the metamorphous of the family who take him in,
and from outsiders reaction to this phenomenon. The old winged man symbolizes those that are
different and perhaps alien. He also represents those who are unable to contribute in any traditional

The Importance Of Romantic Love
Love is a tricky thing. I, as I m sure many of us, grew up with the notion that happiness was an outside
job, that I was not actually in charge of my own happiness. For me, I learned, through some really
terrible examples, that I needed to depend on others to feel happy, fulfilled, whole, and so romantic
love became very sticky. It became a game of trying to figure out what I needed to say and do to try
and get the other person to do what I thought I needed them to do in order for me to feel safe, to feel
that my needs would be met, to feel happy.
Just typing that last sentence feels complicated. And that s exactly what romantic love became.... a
very complicated strategical endeavor. The only thing that this (very Ego) strategy ends up doing is
creating resentment. I would resent my partners for not doing what I wanted them to do and they
would resent me for requiring so much of them and putting unjust pressure on them. It was not a good
plan at all!
Eventually as I started down my path to self discovery I caught on to the whole make yourself happy
thing. I got better and better at it with time and practice, but there was still a rub when it came to
romantic love. I was still coming into romantic love full of need. Maybe it didn t start out that way but
it always seemed to end up that way.
And then the resentment would set in.
For me it took a really significant life event to begin come out of the game . I remember the exact day
many, many months later,

Executive Systems Responsible for Visually Guided Movement
Land (2009) suggests that three executive systems are responsible for visually guided movements,
namely gaze, vision and action, and these are overseen by a fourth system labelled the schema system.
Figure 2.12 is an illustration a particular model that has been developed to explain visually guided
movement in natural environments, so it is relevant to sport.
Figure 2.12 illustrates the relations of the schema, gaze, visual, a from nd motor systems during the
performance of a visually controlled action. (Adapted Land 2009:51 62).
The gaze system, consisting of the frontal eye fields is responsible for locating and fixating (targeting)
task relevant objects. The visual system, located in the occipital lobe and much of the temporal lobe
supplies information to the other two systems, providing feedback as to what is being fixated and
directional guidance to the motor system. In this way the eyes act to gather the information necessary
for successful performance (Land 2009). In line with this thinking it is generally accepted that eye
movements tend to precede motor actions by about one second, this is dependent on the specific task
demands (Land Furneaux 1997, Land 2009).
It has been identified that the first visible response in visually guided action is usually an eye
movement corresponding to the direction and location of some feature important for task execution.
The eyes then fixate and

This is a detective novel where the main detective and protagonist is a female. The first well known
female detective was Amelia Butterworth. She was created by Anna Katharine Green in 1897. She was
in the book The Affair Next Door. The book, Look For Me, follows all of these subgenres because the
lead detective, Sergeant Detective D.D. Warren is a female detective. Also, the book does follow
police procedural because the detective is in the police force and uses some tactics a police officer

The Federal Court Case Of Citizens United V. Federal...
William M. Milburn Dr. Carroll Gov 101.01 4/29/2015 Citizens United v. Federal Election Committee
The Federal Court Case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Committee is a case with a
controversial outcome. The Supreme Court came to the decision, through a 5 4 vote, that for profit
corporations have the same rights to finance political campaigns as citizens. The Supreme Court held
in Citizens United that it was unconstitutional to ban free speech through the limiting of independent
advertisements by corporations, associations, or unions (CU vs. FEC). The Supreme Court Decision
allows corporations and unions to use their financial resources to either promote or persuade against
any political candidate on an advertisement. The ruling also allows corporations and unions to donate
to political campaigns and does away with any limits on how much a corporate donor can contribute
to a campaign (ibid). While the businesses may not give money straight to campaigns, they have the
choice to persuade the population of voters as a whole through the use of advertisements, just as
Political Action Committees do. The corporate funding of political advertisements is made possible by
the First Amendment because it guarantees the right to free speech, and political spending is one form
of that protected speech. Citizens United is a nonprofit corporation because it does not make any
financial profit from its actions. Citizens United has an annual budget of twelve million dollars

Magnets Lab
As was hypothesized, the time taken to fall through the copper tube increased as the number of
magnets did. However, the relationship was not quite linear. As shown in Figure 3.1, when the average
times were plotted against the corresponding number, the graph exhibited a positive polynomial trend,
more specifically, one of a quadratic.
Figure 3.1
This would mean that as the number of magnets increased, it would take more and more time to fall
through. Thus, it is expected that at some point, the casing would never be seen coming out of the
tube, as the time would effectively hit infinity. However, this is outside of the bounds of the
experiment; To keep total mass constant at 74 grams, only a finite number of magnets could be used.

Internet Usage Addiction
Internet Usage
The internet refers basically to the worldwide interconnection of computer networks that use a
standard protocol called internet protocol suite. The internet serves several billion people worldwide
and has become the most preferred mode of communication between people from different parts of the
world. This has led to it rampant usage and as much as it has noticeable benefits, its limitations cannot
be overlooked either. Internet addiction in teenagers or to say adolescents has been estimated to be
12% in China, 19.4% in Korea and 8% in Greece approximately (Lin).
To start with, usage of the internet leads to addiction. While the time spend in the internet might be
highly productive, compelling use of the internet can ultimately interfere with your work, the daily
life, and a larger extent interfere with relationships. It leads to a disorder commonly known as Internet
Addiction Disorder (IAD). It is commonly referred to internet overuse, which leads to, interference of
daily normal life. This disorder has undergone several researches and valid data have been received
supporting it. IAD covers a wide variety of impulse control problems including the following
(Walton);
Cybersex addiction: This refers to uncontrollable use of the internet pornography, Adult sex chat
rooms, or the fantasy role play sites that will, therefore, affect real life intimate relationships.

technology and the workforce Essay
Should we hold back technology to protect the unskilled workforce?
Since the beginning of time, people have made and used tools to make everyday life simpler. The car
was a major breakthrough for transporting people as well as goods and services. The conveyor belt
also helped production rates for manufacturing, allowing the work force to finish goods almost 10
times faster. The workforce benefits with new technology, some may argue that new technology hurts
the workforce. Colleges and universities provided the necessary training for potential employees to be
able to embrace technological changes. Vocational training also provides potential employees with the
tools needed to survive the technological changes. It is important to note that ... Show more content on

Student loans are also difficult to obtain and interest rates are high too. Furthermore, some students
are not encouraged to attend college, based on their family environment and socioeconomic status.
While everyone may not be able to go to college, more people are able to attend than before. Many
high schools offer vocational trainings and programs that allow students to obtain trades and skills,
without even having to go to college, which allows them to be successful in the workplace. Computer
technology is one of the most common advancements in the workplace. Many school systems post
homework on line and require students to regularly use Microsoft Office. It should be mandatory that
high school curriculums teach the latest technologies, so the students are prepared to enter the
workforce, whether or not they attend college. The younger generation also uses cell phones, tablets,
and MP3 players, so their ability to adapt to change happens socially as well. Technology is constantly
changing (Weiss et al 10), so just because someone goes to college and is considered skill, a new
advancement may quickly make them unskilled.
We should not hold back technology from the workforce just because employees are outdated . If we
would have held back making and producing the car, car technology would not be as advanced as it is
today. The conveyer belt helped us in the production of goods. If we didn t have the conveyer belt,

Rhetorical Analysis Of Handwriting Doesn t Matter
Rhetorical Analysis: Handwriting Just Doesn t Matter In recent years, the rushing tide of typing has
overwhelmed the once necessary skill of handwriting. As the days pass by computers and other 21st
century electronics are becoming more and more a part human lives. Gone are the constant needs for
pen and paper, often times all that is needed for notetaking is a laptop and working fingers. A recent
article published by Anne Trubek titled Handwriting Just Doesn t Matter analyzes the importance of
handwriting in the computerized world that is lived in today, as well as through a discussion on the
teaching of cursive and other handwriting exercises in schools. Using a mix of pathos, logos, and
minor amounts of ethos, Trubek is able to comprehensively convince her audience that handwriting is
not as important or useful a skill as it used to be. Trubek wishes to provide her audience with a
convincing argument that shows how handwriting in this time is inferior to typing on computers. In
other words, her primary purpose is to illustrate the idea of focusing on typing automaticity (the ability
to type without looking at keys) in schools over handwriting automaticity (the ability to write without
conscious effort). This is seen when Trubek explains how if ...the goal of public education is to
prepare students to become successful, employable adults, typing is inarguably more useful than
handwriting. (Trubek, 2016, para. 4) Trubek argues that if public schools are working

Dark Matter and Dark Energy Essay
Dark Matter and Dark Energy
Dark Matter and Dark Energy are important. They can help us know how the universe began. These
two are the mysteries of the universe; they compose about 90% of the universe. They are mysteries
because we believe that they exist but we can t see them or detect them. People question whether they
manifest to be the same thing. Astronomers know very little about their constitution so they cannot
assume they are related. Dark Energy is a mysterious force that drives the expansion of the universe.
Astronomers states that the universe is expanding and the expansion is accelerating, so the unknown
anti gravity force at work is termed dark energy. Dark energy has important consequences for ... Show

Once the temperature of the Universe dropped below the neutron proton mass difference, neutrons
began decaying into protons. If the early baryon density was low, then it was difficult for a proton to
find a neutron with which to make helium before too many of the neutrons decayed away to account
for the amount of helium we see today. So by measuring the He/H ratio today, they can calculate the
necessary baryon density shortly after the Big Bang, and, consequently, the total number of baryons
today. It turns out that you need about 0.05 M total baryonic matter to account for the known
proportion of light isotopes. So only 1/20 of the total mass of the Universe is baryonic matter. This is
probably the reason why Astronomers claim that Dark matter must exist to account for the gravity that
holds galaxies together. If the only matter in the universe was matter we could directly detect, galaxies
would not have had enough matter to have ever formed. The galaxies we observe today would fly
apart because they wouldn t have enough matter to create a strong enough gravity to hold themselves
together. Dark matter is also responsible for amplifying small fluctuations in the Cosmic Microwave
Background back in the early universe to create the large scale structure we observe in the universe
today. Astronomers are still in the hunt of the Dark energy and dark matter but they haven t found
none. They are undetectable which makes it

My Family At Paris France
Image Analysis When I was in 6th grade my family went on a trip to Paris France. While there we
were able to explore the city and visit many well known places such as the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and a
royal palace called Versailles. The Versailles was originally built by a Louis XIII in 1623 as a hunting
lodge. In the years to come the building went through a few big expansions. After Louis XIII died his
son Louis XIV obtained Versailles and used it as his main residence and for the seat of the government
of the Kingdom of France. Also, the Versailles had enough rooms to be used for most of the courtiers
to stay there. My family and I were able to take a tour of the palace. While I was on the tour we came
into a room known as the Hercules Room. I walked in the room as was shocked because of a sculpture
in the middle of the room. Displayed in the middle of this room in an immaculate ancient palace was
an enormous metal sculpture of a dog shaped balloon animal. Directly above the dog was a massive
painting covering the ceiling named Apotheosis of Hercules which was the reason the room itself was
named Hercules Room. The reason I was surprised when I walked into the room was because the dog
balloon sculpture was extremely different than the ceiling above it and everything surrounding it
making it seem out of place. The Balloon Dog sculpture was created by a man named Jeff Koons in
1994. The dog is an optimistic piece, it s similar to a balloon a clown would make for a child at a

Results suggested different levels of high risk behavior. There are many reasons for individuals to acquire body modifications. One possible reason for body modifications is to gain attention through displays of extravagance such as those that are found in people with histrionic disorder (Durand amp; Barlow, 2000). A study by Burger amp; Finkel (2002) investigated reasons why people adorn their bodies with tattoos and body piercing. They also researched unmodified participants perceptions of body art. When the researchers polled participant group as to their perceptions of body modifications, they found that many people associate tattoos and body piercing with risky behaviors and view them as symbols of drug abuse and violence (Burger amp; Finkel, 2002). They found that a main motivation for people to modify their bodies is to increase self esteem. The people polled found body art as beautiful and felt more beautiful when they acquired it. A study conducted at Denison University by Lyons and Snyder (1996) described the reasons why college men and women had tattoos and body piercing. The main reason cited by the men with body modifications for getting tattooed or pierced was to identify themselves with a certain group. Women, however, rated their tattoos and piercing to make themselves more individualized or sexually appealing. Fees For HighSchool Sports Sports in conjunction with academics are capable of creating a balance that makes for a well rounded citizen and healthy, happy employee. Issues in the mix often come from the balance itself. Many students find themselves overcommitted to sport while others find they are not able to compete. I will examine issues in interscholastic and collegiate sport. Sports cannot always be completely free due to issues outside the realm of sport, but it should be as inexpensive as possible to participate. Fees for high school sports should follow certain guidelines. First off, there should always be a minimum cost sport option for high school students. For example, any student should be allowed to participate in track and cross country since these sports require little to no equipment and have little limits on team size. Second, high schools should not make a net profit or loss on sports. High school sports should act as their own entities with their own funding from the school board, and they should never take from academics and vice versa. Third, different costs for sports should be controlled vehemently before charging fees to play. There should be no more than 1 paid coach per team, and if there is more than 1 paid coach, there should be no fees to play the sport since only one experienced coach should be needed to share knowledge with the entire team and volunteer coaches. Other controllable costs include equipment. Sports equipment and jerseys should be used for as long as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why We CraveHorror Movies In his article Why We Crave Horror movies, Stephen King stresses the fact that we are all mentally ill, and explains why watching horror films is an effective way to deal with our inner insanity. According to King, we are all insane by human nature, and are made up of anticivilization emotions. These emotions are integral parts of our personalities, and in order to stay healthy, they demand periodic exercise. But living in society has taught us to repress these emotions, which is why he argues that watching horror films provide us with this psychological relief, allowing us to indirectly deal with anticivilization emotions. According to King, horror movies deliberately appeal to the worst in us, and therefore, perform the dirty job of satisfying our inner monsters. I disagree with King because horror movies can also have negative effects. In addition, people have different ways of channeling out uncivilized emotions. Horror movies can have negative psychological effects. Although some people enjoy the thrill and nastiness of horror movies, I, for one, do not. Watching horror films give me nightmares, and make me extra paranoid. Rather than my inner psyche feeling satisfied, I feel disturbed. Animal Cells AndTheir Functions Animal cells and their functions Cell Membrane The cell surface membrane is a semi permeable membrane whose function is to control the exchange of substances between the cell and its environment. Semi permeable means that only certain molecules are allowed to be transported in and out of the cell. The membrane is mainly made up of Lipid and protein. On the diagram, the Cell Membrane forms the outer shell of the animal cell, and can be seen as the bold line around it. Nucleus The Nucleus has a sphere shaped body that encloses a variety of organelles, including the nucleolus, and is home to the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) of a cell inside the chromosomes. It is typically seen as the largest part of the animal cell. The nucleus controls many of the functions and activities inside an animal cell, and is known as the control centre of a cell. Nuclear Membrane The Nuclear Membrane surrounds the Nucleus, which is known as a Porous Membrane. This is covered in pores, which are tiny holes that allow the exchange of RNA to move between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. For me what I can relate to is thinking I will notice a change within a day, but as I learned that can take years. Looking back on my life I have seen how God has kept his hand on me all through life, even when I was not following Christ. Going to a military school for six months is when change accrued in my life. Of courses, I knew I was doing something different, but I did not see the change at the time. Growing up I was surrounded by negative people at home and at school. I can remember one day I got in trouble at school, so when I got back to my aunt s house, she came in the room I was in and told me right in front of my cousin, You are an embarrassment to this family. That hit me so hard, because in the office at school they called me a bully and in the hallways, I was known as a weirdo. Then at home I was thought of as an embarrassment. I felt nothing but anger and depression, telling myself, Nobody loves you. Destiny, your own family does not care about you, NOBODY does! The reason I say the military school changed me is because I had accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I did not see the change right then and there, but I did know God had a plan for me. While I was in the program I learned that I cannot hold on to the past and let people determine who I am. I was so lost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

VAP is a growing problem in health care facilities which increases the cost of patient care and increases patient care time, hospital length of stay, and patient morbidity. Ventilator associated pneumonia increases healthcare costs by more than $40,000 per hospitalized patient (Lisboa, Kollef, Rello, 2008). Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services plan to stop paying hospitals for necessary care caused by preventable complications including nosocomial infections resulting in unintended fiscal circumstances (Lisboa et al.). 2 The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) established recommended guidelines to decrease the risk of VAP. It is these best practice interventions that nurses should follow when caring for mechanically ventilated patients. The 2003 CDC guidelines reported that 63% of admitted patients in the ICU have oral colonization associated with a pathogen resulting from VAP (Cason, Tyner, Saunders, Broome, 2007). The CDC provided a set of seven guidelines to reduce risks related to hand washing, wearing gloves, suctioning, elevated head of bed (HOB), education, oral hygiene program, and use of antiseptic rinse. The Poetry OfEdgar Allan Poe When hearing the name Edgar Allan Poe, it is simple to know who is being talked about, the mostly grim, melancholy, and dark poet. Along with many other people who have been through rough times, Poe expresses his past experiences and pain through a work specific to him, short stories and poems. Edgar Allan Poe uses his life s story to write pieces that display the time period he lived in, the influences on his poetry, and solid topics that are critiqued. First off, Poe discreetly uses certain dialect in his work that brings attention to the time period he lived in. Due to Poe being born in Boston 19 January 1809 , he had more of what now seems to be older and formal dialect in his work (Kennedy page 734). Back then, a romantic and time consuming thought that was a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven Coveted where the bond between two people was seemingly unbreakable (Poe line 11). The use of the word wingèd implies that Poe lived in an earlier century due to the fact that no one today talks like that. Edgar Allan Poe uses many phrases to indicate what time period he lived in. When he died Sunday October 7 in 1849, it was still in the time period of formal and proper speech (Kennedy page 734). To be shut up in a sepulcher was the kind of thing Poe would reference in his work in one way or another, but this would not be said like that today. The people of this century would say phrases including six feet under , one foot in the grave , tombstone , etc. which is significantly less sophisticated than the phrases that were used during Poe s time. Next, Poe had a rough life that greatly influenced his writing. Edgar Allan Poe went through embrace and joy with people in which they loved with a love that was more than a love , for example, his fourteen year old first cousin, Virginia Clemm (Poe line 9) (Bleiler page 596). Such love led Poe to creating portions of his works based on this overwhelming feeling of excitement, sincerity, and loyalty. However, as it is well too known, not everything is picture perfect. Poe, much like everyone else, had many tragic heartaches. One of his most significant heartaches would be Virginia s death in 1847 where she died due to illness (Prida page 225). ... The Influence ofTelevision on Human Behavior The role of the television is pretty simple; to entertain. Almost everyone on this planet own one or more television(s). The television as we used to know is no longer in black and white or just a tiny box but it is massively upgrading with the hi tech today that s why we see only see the flat screen TVs now. It is almost as flat as this board. With these new modern technology, the human behavior is also rapidly changing like I previously mentioned in my first topic. The human needs and wants is basically a major issue covering our everyday life but here I am explaining it further in a monkey see, monkey do situation which technically means what we see is what we do or a better way is copying. So within this situation, we often get influenced by the media. For instance, a zombie movie. What do we see in a zombie movie? Assassinations, survival, cool gadgets, awesome stunts and cute movie casts. So by observing the cool aspects from the movie, we would basically start picturing ourselves doing it even worse we are actually doing it by imagining everyone on earth is a zombie and you d want to run around chopping their heads off. This where the human behavior really takes place. The main problem is we actually start believing in fantasies which slowly turns to reality where people might actually think you re crazy. Remember when The Matrix was released? Yes, we would literally see people doing slow motion acts which was fun because it was so influential that it became a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pericles Funeral OrationSummary Pericles Funeral Oration Thucydides 431 BC Secondary 1. The authors main point was to tell of Pericles grand speech he told at the annual funeral in Athens for all who fell during war. Pericles main point of the speech was to not only tell of those who had fallen achievements, but also of his personal view of Athens, and how skillful and mighty their Athenian army was. 2. Thucydides wrote Pericles Funeral oration for his history of the Pelopponesian War. I can infer that he is a historian who went into depth explaining the Athenians culture to honor their dead, and wrote his speech. In Pericles speech, he is honoring the fallen Athenian heroes, and praising their form of government democracy. He tells of how this allows men to act without judgment, and how Athens is superior then others. 3. The author is not biased, and writes just of Pericles speech. Pericles point of view is that Athens is superior over every other city. He tells of how they do not have to train their military from a young age like the Spartans, and how they do not go to war with full strength, but divide their attention between their navy and other troops, unlike the Spartans who start training at very young age, while both are just as ready to fight. Garcia-Marquez s AVery Old Man with Enormous Wings Essay Garcia Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings Symbolism is often used to subtlely enhance a story s meaning by adding emphasis and details to the story line. However, Garcia Marquez, in A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , cloaks his tale for children in a dreamlike quality conveyed purely through symbolism. Clues to his intended meaning can be drawn from the old winged man whom the story revolves around, from the metamorphous of the family who take him in, and from outsiders reaction to this phenomenon. The old winged man symbolizes those that are different and perhaps alien. He also represents those who are unable to contribute in any traditional form. The story opens during a four day storm as Pelayo and his wife ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elisenda s conception of charging the inquisitive for a peek at the angel brought great wealth to the family. With this wealth Pelayo exchanges his position as bailiff, guarding dangerous criminals for that of running a rabbit warren, guarding the gentlest of creatures. Meanwhile, Elisenda becomes a lady of high social status. As days turn into years Pelayo and Elisenda accept the angel s presence, but yet do not wish to repeat the experience. This fact is evidenced in the design of their mansion: ...high netting so that crabs wouldn t get in...and with iron bars on the windows so that angels wouldn t get in (444). Throughout the years the angel lives with the family, the sickly infant is strengthened into a healthy schoolboy. This young boy is the only one who never knows the angel to be foreign, and therefore truly accepts him. The bond between them is so close that they even share chickenpox. The story s participants from outside the nucleus household include the wise neighbor, Father Gonzaga, and the Spider woman. The wise neighbor called in by Pelayo and Elisenda at the discovery of the old man is responsible for the angel label. This wise woman represents superstitious beliefs. She believed ...angels in those times were the fugitive survivors of a celestial conspiracy... and advised Pelayo and Elisenda to club him to death (441). The Importance OfRomantic Love Love is a tricky thing. I, as I m sure many of us, grew up with the notion that happiness was an outside job, that I was not actually in charge of my own happiness. For me, I learned, through some really terrible examples, that I needed to depend on others to feel happy, fulfilled, whole, and so romantic love became very sticky. It became a game of trying to figure out what I needed to say and do to try and get the other person to do what I thought I needed them to do in order for me to feel safe, to feel that my needs would be met, to feel happy. Just typing that last sentence feels complicated. And that s exactly what romantic love became.... a very complicated strategical endeavor. The only thing that this (very Ego) strategy ends up doing is creating resentment. I would resent my partners for not doing what I wanted them to do and they would resent me for requiring so much of them and putting unjust pressure on them. It was not a good plan at all! Eventually as I started down my path to self discovery I caught on to the whole make yourself happy thing. I got better and better at it with time and practice, but there was still a rub when it came to romantic love. I was still coming into romantic love full of need. Maybe it didn t start out that way but it always seemed to end up that way. And then the resentment would set in. For me it took a really significant life event to begin come out of the game . Executive Systems Responsiblefor Visually Guided Movement Land (2009) suggests that three executive systems are responsible for visually guided movements, namely gaze, vision and action, and these are overseen by a fourth system labelled the schema system. Figure 2.12 is an illustration a particular model that has been developed to explain visually guided movement in natural environments, so it is relevant to sport. Figure 2.12 illustrates the relations of the schema, gaze, visual, a from nd motor systems during the performance of a visually controlled action. (Adapted Land 2009:51 62). The gaze system, consisting of the frontal eye fields is responsible for locating and fixating (targeting) task relevant objects. The visual system, located in the occipital lobe and much of the temporal lobe supplies information to the other two systems, providing feedback as to what is being fixated and directional guidance to the motor system. In this way the eyes act to gather the information necessary for successful performance (Land 2009). In line with this thinking it is generally accepted that eye movements tend to precede motor actions by about one second, this is dependent on the specific task demands (Land Furneaux 1997, Land 2009). It has been identified that the first visible response in visually guided action is usually an eye movement corresponding to the direction and location of some feature important for task execution. The eyes then fixate and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Federal CourtCase Of Citizens United V. Federal... William M. Milburn Dr. Carroll Gov 101.01 4/29/2015 Citizens United v. Federal Election Committee The Federal Court Case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Committee is a case with a controversial outcome. The Supreme Court came to the decision, through a 5 4 vote, that for profit corporations have the same rights to finance political campaigns as citizens. The Supreme Court held in Citizens United that it was unconstitutional to ban free speech through the limiting of independent advertisements by corporations, associations, or unions (CU vs. FEC). The Supreme Court Decision allows corporations and unions to use their financial resources to either promote or persuade against any political candidate on an advertisement. The ruling also allows corporations and unions to donate to political campaigns and does away with any limits on how much a corporate donor can contribute to a campaign (ibid). While the businesses may not give money straight to campaigns, they have the choice to persuade the population of voters as a whole through the use of advertisements, just as Political Action Committees do. The corporate funding of political advertisements is made possible by the First Amendment because it guarantees the right to free speech, and political spending is one form of that protected speech. Citizens United is a nonprofit corporation because it does not make any financial profit from its actions. Citizens United has an annual budget of twelve million dollars (Schmitz ... Magnets Lab As washypothesized, the time taken to fall through the copper tube increased as the number of magnets did. However, the relationship was not quite linear. As shown in Figure 3.1, when the average times were plotted against the corresponding number, the graph exhibited a positive polynomial trend, more specifically, one of a quadratic. Figure 3.1 This would mean that as the number of magnets increased, it would take more and more time to fall through. Thus, it is expected that at some point, the casing would never be seen coming out of the tube, as the time would effectively hit infinity. Rhetorical Analysis OfHandwriting Doesn t Matter Rhetorical Analysis: Handwriting Just Doesn t Matter In recent years, the rushing tide of typing has overwhelmed the once necessary skill of handwriting. As the days pass by computers and other 21st century electronics are becoming more and more a part human lives. Gone are the constant needs for pen and paper, often times all that is needed for notetaking is a laptop and working fingers. A recent article published by Anne Trubek titled Handwriting Just Doesn t Matter analyzes the importance of handwriting in the computerized world that is lived in today, as well as through a discussion on the teaching of cursive and other handwriting exercises in schools. Using a mix of pathos, logos, and minor amounts of ethos, Trubek is able to comprehensively convince her audience that handwriting is not as important or useful a skill as it used to be. Trubek wishes to provide her audience with a convincing argument that shows how handwriting in this time is inferior to typing on computers. In other words, her primary purpose is to illustrate the idea of focusing on typing automaticity (the ability to type without looking at keys) in schools over handwriting automaticity (the ability to write without conscious effort). This is seen when Trubek explains how if ...the goal of public education is to prepare students to become successful, employable adults, typing is inarguably more useful than handwriting. (Trubek, 2016, para. 4) Trubek argues that if public schools are working ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dark Matter andDark Energy Essay Dark Matter and Dark Energy Dark Matter and Dark Energy are important. They can help us know how the universe began. These two are the mysteries of the universe; they compose about 90% of the universe. They are mysteries because we believe that they exist but we can t see them or detect them. People question whether they manifest to be the same thing. Astronomers know very little about their constitution so they cannot assume they are related. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the temperature of the Universe dropped below the neutron proton mass difference, neutrons began decaying into protons. If the early baryon density was low, then it was difficult for a proton to find a neutron with which to make helium before too many of the neutrons decayed away to account for the amount of helium we see today. So by measuring the He/H ratio today, they can calculate the necessary baryon density shortly after the Big Bang, and, consequently, the total number of baryons today. It turns out that you need about 0.05 M total baryonic matter to account for the known proportion of light isotopes. So only 1/20 of the total mass of the Universe is baryonic matter. This is probably the reason why Astronomers claim that Dark matter must exist to account for the gravity that holds galaxies together. If the only matter in the universe was matter we could directly detect, galaxies would not have had enough matter to have ever formed. The galaxies we observe today would fly apart because they wouldn t have enough matter to create a strong enough gravity to hold themselves together. Dark matter is also responsible for amplifying small fluctuations in the Cosmic Microwave Background back in the early universe to create the large scale structure we observe in the universe today. My Family AtParis France Image Analysis When I was in 6th grade my family went on a trip to Paris France. While there we were able to explore the city and visit many well known places such as the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and a royal palace called Versailles. The Versailles was originally built by a Louis XIII in 1623 as a hunting lodge. In the years to come the building went through a few big expansions. After Louis XIII died his son Louis XIV obtained Versailles and used it as his main residence and for the seat of the government of the Kingdom of France. Also, the Versailles had enough rooms to be used for most of the courtiers to stay there. My family and I were able to take a tour of the palace. While I was on the tour we came into a room known as the Hercules Room. I walked in the room as was shocked because of a sculpture in the middle of the room. Displayed in the middle of this room in an immaculate ancient palace was an enormous metal sculpture of a dog shaped balloon animal. Directly above the dog was a massive painting covering the ceiling named Apotheosis of Hercules which was the reason the room itself was named Hercules Room. The reason I was surprised when I walked into the room was because the dog balloon sculpture was extremely different than the ceiling above it and everything surrounding it making it seem out of place. The Balloon Dog sculpture was created by a man named Jeff Koons in 1994. The dog is an optimistic piece, it s similar to a balloon a clown would make for a child at a ...
