Geothermal energy is heat energy generated and stored in the Earth. It can be extracted from geothermal reservoirs found in geysers, volcanoes, hot springs, and boiling mud pots to produce electricity. There are three main types of geothermal power plants - dry steam, flash steam, and binary cycle. In all plants, hot water or steam is extracted through production wells and spins a turbine connected to a generator before being injected back into the ground through injection wells. Geothermal energy has the advantages of being renewable, environmentally friendly, and providing a stable baseload of power.
