Red Flour Beetles Lab
INTRODUCTION In this lab, the class discovered the effects of different substrates and stimuli
on red flour beetles. Red flour beetles eat flour and other grains and the female beetle deposits her
eggs on flour, cereal, dry pet food, or other similar products. The larvae hatch and then begin to eat
the material around them. In the article Patch exploitation by Tribolium castaneum: Movement
patterns, distribution, and oviposition , it says that most of the activity from red flour beetles is
spent in food sources (Campbell and Hagstrum). There are many factors that affect the red flour
beetles ability to survive or reproduce, like temperature, food source, stress, and genetics (Biology
159). In Humidity Reactions of Tribolium Castaneum (Herbst) , it states that red flour beetles are
attracted to different substrates due to their nutritional levels and moisture level of the substrate
(Willis and Roth).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first hypothesis for this lab is that, if red flour beetles are placed in the center of a dish with
wheat flour on one side and white flour on the other, then more beetles will go to their preferred
substrate. Our prediction is that the white flour side will occupy more red flour beetles than the
oat flour side of the dish because that is the preferred substrate. The null hypothesis is that there
will be no preference between the two substrates. The second hypothesis for this lab is that, when
red flour beetles are placed in the center of the petri dish with sugar on one side and white flour
on the other, then more beetles will go to the preferred substrate. Our prediction is that the white
flour side, again, will be the preferred substrate and occupy more red flour beetles. The null
hypothesis is that there will be no preference between the two

Powerful Regional Differences
National Unity or Powerful Regional Differences Since the Civil War, the United States has
undergone many changes in the people s attitude towards each other and the government. I believe
that the United States has gone through both national unity and powerful regional differences since
the Civil War ended in 1865. The national unity of the nation took awhile to come together, and it
started with the Civil Rights movement. The Civil Rights movement started to make the american
people come together and fight for a single thought or idea. Martin Luther King Jr. was the
idealized figure behindthis movement. He wanted blacks to have equal rights as whites, and he
made sure everyone knew that. He gave speeches, held rallies, and protested companies

Sir Isaac Newton And Albert Einstein
Sir Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein are though by many to be two of the greatest scientific minds
to exist since the scientific enlightenment. Although they existed nearly 150 years apart, their work
is still used in modern technology. Many people think of Newton only as the person who thought
about gravity and Einstein as the one who made an equation, but these two scientific revolutionaries
are much more complex. Newton and Einstein may have had very different personal lives, but they
are both scientist whose contributions to society are still relevant today.
On January 4, 1643 Isaac Newton was born in Lincolnshire, England according to Biography.com.
The soon to be revolutionary came from humble beginnings. Newton s father, a ... Show more

For the first time, he graduated with the highest honors. During years of multiple marriages and
affairs, Einstein rose to fame in science. During this time, he also became very outspoken against
racism as a result of the events in WWII Germany and twentieth century America. Seventy six
years later, he died of a rupture in his aorta in New Jersey Biogrophy.com said.
Isaac Newton is seen by historians as an unusual man while Albert Einstein, not seen as a social
butterfly, is a lot more conventional than Newton. To begin, Newton is reported to never have
any romantic contact with anyone. Even when his life settled down, he did not get married as
most of his colleagues did. On the other hand, Einstein s fascination with women is profound. In
most of his personal papers, he talks of how monogamy is not a natural human idea and he never
is loyal to a single woman. He is reported to get married twice. On a different note, the religious
beliefs of the two men varies greatly. Newton has written many books on his strong Christian
beliefs. All of his work strengthened his belief in God. In contrast, Einstein would never accept a
personal God and his belief in one is at discussion to this day. Even though they have great personal
differences, both men are scientist and have a child like wonder that propels their work.
Secondly, the work of both men is similar yet contradictory.

Catcher In The Rye Baseball Glove Essay
Let us say there was a left handed baseball glove lying around, does a feeling of pain, grief,
memories, guilt, and depression arise from it? Now, let us capture a closer view of it, there is
writing on it, just another dirty worn out used mitt, right? To Holden Caulfield from The Catcher
in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, this basically describes his entire life, from the worn out seams to
the faded fabric to the smudged green ink to the slight lingering scent. It was Allie, his younger
brother s, mitt. Incidentally, he died from leukemia at a young age and never acquired the
experience of the joys of childhood. At any rate, Holden had a ruined childhood and almost every
living moment gives him misery. For example, when he was visiting Mr. Antolini s place and he

Avenue, he began to sidetrack and feel like he would never succeed to the other side of the street
and that he kept on moving forward down, down, and down and no one would ever notice him
again. This is where he began to imagine he was walking with Allie by saying to him, Allie, don
t let me disappear. Allie, don t let me disappear. Allie, don t let me disappear. Please, Allie
(Salinger 198) and later appreciate him for helping him. He has gone astray and is lonely with no
direction in life and cannot find his Elysium. He feels as if his entire world is crumbling down with
no one he can relate to other than children for the reason that the adults phonies . In the end, he

The Outreaching Christian Mission in Let the Nations Be...
In the realm of outreaching Christian mission, there is a voice who is talking an intelligible
message. In Let the Nations Be Glad!, John Piper makes a superb showing task of treating a few
significant points identified with missions and the explanation behind missions in today s self
serving, postmodern world. He tackles head on with numerous diverse incorrect musings and
convictions identified with missions and he gives a brief scriptural reply to each of them. In every
one, he explains why missions have either floundered or succeeded. Piper exhibits a perfection in
missions which has the glory of Godas its preeminent, larger purpose.
One of the main aims of Piper is that missionaries are not to become casualties in the battle to ...

God had not made the sky and the earth and the whole celestial host, He might not be pitiful or
dejected. He is self existent and He doesn t need anything. As if expecting negative reactions, on
page 34, Piper makes up for himself in this minor lapse of misstatements by recovering God s
character, He has no deficiencies or needs or defects. He relies totally on himself for all that he
is My major gripe about this book, is that it is longer than it needs to be. Piper has a practice of
taking twice the length he needs to in making a point. Once in a while this is a direct result of his
uncontrolled utilization of proof texting. Different times Piper appears to be so plan intent on
making his point that he marshals utilizes all of proof he can, instead of basically selecting the

thing.
John Piper has a few quirks that appear in a large portion of his compositions, and in this work
there is no special case. They don t trouble me, however some may not like it (yet generally in case

Advantages Of Proactive Approach To Aviation
Benefits and Drawbacks of the Proactive, Reactive and Predictive Approaches to Aviation
Safety Management.
Aviation is a field where there are lots of real time challenges as the requirements are much more
stringent when compared to any other field except perhaps the medical science. There are very
few fields in the world today which cannot afford any failure in their operations due to high stakes
of human lives as in the case of aviation industry and intrinsic as in case of space shuttle programs.
The most important factor aviation industry is concerned about is the Safety . From the day Wright

Aviation industry cannot afford to repeat the same mistake over and over again at the cost of
human lives. Identifying the errors and mitigating it before the events occur is called proactive
approach in SMS. It is a scientific approach of risk estimation, human factors and collection of data
and analyzing it. This approach is concerned with present analysis of the organizational processes.
Proactive approach is the best way to extenuate the errors and predict the hazards before occurrence.
There are many advantages of this approach than the disadvantages. The important components of
proactive approach are: Assessment of risk before each operational activity, developing a safety
management plan for a planned change, provides the risk report before the occurrence of event to
provide assurance. This approach estimates the organizational flaws which include inappropriate
management decisions, unfavorable working conditions, quality of the equipment and working
culture. It helps in identifying weakness in the overall of control (management, safety, production,
finance) with internal assessments and audits. Major advantages of proactive approach are: risk
control strategies, positive assurance, ability to set realistic action plans, constant monitoring of
processes, manufacturing techniques, acceptance to the change and development. Proactive
processes can benefit the travelers. Having the correct proactive communication channels in place
as well as a well defined irregular operations strategy minimizes the effect on an airline s operations

Prohibition and Al Capone
Out of the turmoil and the collapse of law and order in the 1920 s, perhaps the most recognized
figure to emerge from the time is Al Capone. The New York Times said of Al Capone that he
was the symbol of a shameful era, the monstrous symptom of a disease which was eating into the
conscience of America. Looking back on it now, this period of Prohibition in full, ugly flower
seems fantastically incredible. Capone himself was incredible, the creation of an ugly dream .
(www.umich.edu) He impacted society through his ruthless tactics, secret alliances, and penetrant
for violence typified by the St. Valentine s Day massacre. Capone controlled many businesses in
Chicago such as speakeasies, gambling houses, brothels, horse and race tracks, etc. at an
approximated income of $100,000,000 a year. For several years, Al Caponewas never convicted for
the crimes he committed, and when he did, he had an alibi or there was never sufficient
evidence against him. Al Capone had more power in society than most of the political leaders
did during that time period. It took Al Capone his whole life to achieve the power he had in the
Roaring 20 s. Alphonsus Capone, best known as Al Capone, was born on January 17, 1899 in
Brooklyn New York. At the age of fourteen, he dropped out of school and became a member of the
Five Point Gangin Manhattan. He started to work at a Brooklyn bar called the Harvard Inn, and
this is when Al Capone received his nickname Scarface after being in a fight.

The Hiding Place In The Book, Corrie Ten Boom
The book Corrie Ten Boom was an excellent book. The story was timed well and shortened from
the original biography of Corrie Ten Boom, The Hiding Place. This story is mostly about how a
Christian with so much faith can change the world. In the book many times Corrie shows
compassion and forgiveness. This book takes place in the Netherlands. I like history and this was
a great story given during WWII, during the Nazi reign. The story starts off slow not much going
on, except Corrie is sick. Her parents think that she has tuberculosis, which was incurable back
then. However, she later find out that it is not tuberculosis it is appendicitis. Her family owns a

Scheveningen prison. Corrie and Betsie spent 10 months in three different prisons, the last of
which was Ravensbruck Concentration Camp near Berlin. Betsie died at Ravensbruck, but
Corrie lived and got of the Concentration Camp to tell her story. While Corrie was in
Ravensbruck, she never gave into despair. When people would fight for their own survival, she
would give her life for them. In the harshness of the camps Corrie would always pray for other

Essay On Globalization And Trade Opportunities
Topic: Globalization and Trade opportunities
General Purpose: To Inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the opportunities brought by globalization when
trade is concerned.
Thesis: Globalization trade opportunities as the world has become closer and tied in client demand
and supply structures.
Introduction:
Distinguished Guests, Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen: As salamu alaykum. It is an honor
and a privilege to join you at this meeting, and to reflect with you on trade opportunities between
our two companies. With trade flows between our countries growing at an unprecedented rate,
the timing of your visit could not be better. Indeed, for many years, people have been buying and
selling to one another from all corners of the world. It is impossible for any country rich or poor
as its economy grows, to stay away from a global market where free trade and free movement of
capital are pivotal to a strong economy. As a matter of fact, trade and investment increase job
opportunities all around the world, and foreign money that comes into our companies may result in
access to wider markets. From trade opportunities to investment, the world has become closer, and
tied in client supply and demand structures. Therefore, it s important to acknowledge how
important this meeting is for our two companies. Today, I will address the three main arguments for
trade opportunities, client supply and demand structures in this globalization era, and how
instrumental they are in a company s growth.
Key points:
First, I will discuss globalization and investment in the context of our venture
Second, I will discuss trade opportunities
Finally, I will discuss client supply and demand structures
I stand before you today as a representative of our company. As you know, globalization has
enabled increased levels of investment. It has made it easier for businesses to attract short term and
long term investment. And as a company specialized in construction materials, our goal is to
expand our distribution network to new countries such as Saudi Arabia the largest economy in the
Middle East. We are looking for a Saudi partner to embark in a joint venture. There are several

How Is Queen Elizabeth A Good Queen
After the death of Queen Mary, John White held her funeral to which he praised her: She was a
king s daughter; she was a king s sister; she was a king s wife. She was a queen, and by the same
title a king also. Despite the fact of her reign and her prescustion on many Protestants, she was
depicted as a good queen. Since Mary s rule, she could be held a stretch from a feminist icon.
Through her reign, she allowed the crown to be taken up by any gender, and ensued a law to
protect against those who opposed so. Additionally, Mary restructured the economy and reorganised
the militia, rebuilt the navy and successfully managed her parliament. By securing the throne, Mary
ensured that the crown continued along the legal line of Tudor succession. Meanwhile her death
alerted the citizens of England, as well as her enemies and loyalists, many Protestants could be
deemed happy. She had been receiving many horrible reviews from Protestants during her reign,
and when her reign was over,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

herself with the Protestants rebels. When freed, Elizabeth was held back and had almost to

queen, a golden age to which many of her followers called. Her enessical goal were to have a
good counsel, and to opening Protestants churches. Though, she remained a somewhat fun and
active ruler, she was a poor judge in decisions and her choices on the economy and the militia
weakened the popularity that grown among her. Many have said that her rule was just a base of
luck and soon her decisions as a ruler faltered alongside with it. In the end, she had died a virgin (a
popular momentum to which many remember her by) and buried next to her half sister,

A Report Of Roger And Michelle Plan On Establishing Winery...
This report will advise Roger and Michelle how to establish their Adelaide Hills wine touring
business. Ownership structures are considered, whether a partnership or private company would be
more beneficial, together with important elements of business establishment and legal
considerations, success factors, and future possibilities. Information was gathered from a variety of
sources including government organisations, primary sources, and the South Australian Tourism
Commission which provided reliable information. Numerous media articles and websites were
referenced to support information as these sources were not as reliable as government organisations
and primary resources.

A written Partnership Agreement covers various legal matters, such as; partner contributed equity,
how profits/losses will be distributed, and the name of the partnership.
A partnership has many advantages. It offers lower establishment costs compared to setting up a
company. It allows a group of people to contribute their knowledge, skills, specialities, and allows
for all financial assets to be combined. In the future, it would permit their children to be involved in
the business. Also the partnership structure can be changed to meet longer term goals.
A disadvantage of a partnership is unlimited liability, meaning personal assets are at risk. Also if a
partner incurs any debts or dies, the other partner(s) are liable (see Appendix A, page 8).
Private companies are the most common company structure in Australia and are often family
owned, small to medium sized businesses. They can have 1 50 owners who buy shares to
contribute capital. Once incorporated, the business becomes its own legal entity. This means that
shareholders have limited liability equal to the amount of shares they own and none of their
personal assets are at risk. Limited liability is an important benefit as it means that the shareholder
s personal assets are not at risk and are only liable for the amount of shares they own. It also offers
potential to expand,

Example Of The Unsung Heros
Some people view a hero as a man that saves a child from a burning building, or a man that stops
the robber at the bank. Although they re not wrong a hero can be much more, most heros go
unheard of and are not rewarded. On the other hand some heros do get noticed for their courageous
acts and are rewarded with a medalor other objects that signified they have helped the world. The
heros I want to show you are some of the unsung heros that did great things. I define a hero as
being a self sacrificing, determined, and a brave ordinary person.
Ever seen a hero sacrifice himself for others, if so this is probably a hero like John roberts who
put his life on the line for the greater good. This section of hero usually results in the death of one
man to save many. This example from Listverse.com about 1st Lieutenant John Robert in WW2
shows just that. Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient and Prince look a like 1st Lieutenant
John Robert Fox was directing artillery fire in the Italian town of Sommocolonia to stall a
German advance. While Fox was directing fire, a large German force moved in on his
position.Realising that this force was a huge threat to his men, Fox called a final artillery strike
on himself. When his men eventually retook the position, Fox s body was found next to
approximately 100 dead German troops and a medal was placed neatly on his chest. This is truly
moving who knows if he didn t sacrifice himself it could have turned the tide for WW2.

Analysis Of The Article Barrel Cleaning Procedures
The assigned reading material for this week of CFL 100 is titled Barrel Cleaning Procedures . It
is an uncredited article, and appears courtesy of the website accurateshooter.com (http:/
/www.accurateshooter.com/technical articles/barrel cleaning debate/). In the world of firearms,
their maintenance can often be a highly debated subject. Such is the care when it comes to bore
cleaning. Every shooter has their own methods, and ideas. It can vary from the cleaner, solvent,
and brushes used in weapons maintenance. Even while I was serving in the Army, we had the
same cleaning standards across the board. However, the weapons would almost never be dressed
right dress (uniform) as far as cleaning is concerned. The question poised by the article is How
often should you clean the bore? . So they polled manufacturer s, shooters, and a few shooting

recommendation of getting your shots down on paper prior to scrubbing the bore with a brush.
I think great care must be used when you use any type of brush on a weapon. This is because of
the hostile nature of the brush on the interior of the bore. When I clean my weapons I always
use a bore guide to prevent scraping the sides of the bore. Also I prefer to use nylon over brass

Informative Speech About Ebola
Today I will be writing about Ebola and if it will become a worldwide pandemic.
To start off, I will briefly explain what Ebola is. Ebola (also known as Ebola Virus Disease or
EVD) is a severe virus that started in late 1996 and was first misdiagnosed as a new form of
malaria. I can understand why they diagnosed the patients with malaria, the early symptoms were
similar, but the main reason is that they never knew Ebola even existed. Soon after, 1st September
to be more precise, there was a large outbreak and there were approximately [1]280 deaths and
only 38 confirmed survivors. The Ebola virus can spread very easily even though it is not
airborne, though it is waterborne and can be passed on through close contact as well as STD s
and through mother to child. The area that has been most infected is in Africa because of the lack
of facilities and healthcare staff available in the area as well as poor training. Another reason is
that the burial rituals include kissing touching and close contact. This causes Ebola to spread faster
since it can stay on a dead persons body for up to six months
There are many symptoms for Ebola including the following;
[2] Fever
Severe headache
Joint and muscle aches
Chills
Weakness
Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhoea (may be bloody)
Red eyes
Raised rash
Chest pain and cough
Stomach pain
Severe weight loss
Bleeding, usually from the eyes, and bruising (people near death may bleed from other orifices,
such as ears, nose, and rectum)

Aoteaora New Zealand s Society Essay
Biculturalism has a massive role in Aoteaora New Zealand s society and has a massive impact in
its history. Having a clear understanding of it is crucial in order to be more appreciative of how
diverse New Zealand s society has become, and it also helps us discern the negative aspects of
diversity and multiculturalism. By examining and understanding biculturalism, it helps us discern
the Treaty of Waitangi s role and influences in the human services provision here in New Zealand.
Biculturalism is quite a specific concept, but there are many diverse perceptions and
interpretations on what it should look like. Ultimately, we can define biculturalism as two
distinct cultures that exist in the same place and country (Random House Kernerman Webster s
College Dictionary, 2010). Biculturalism in New Zealand refers to the two dominant cultures
here, which are Maori and Pakeha (Ritchie, 1992). It has been known that New Zealand, before
the Treaty of Waitangi was established, was widely a bicultural nation. The British settlers and
Maori were exploring and examining ways to live in parallel with each other (Hayward, 2012).
New Zealand was bicultural in multiple ways as both communities were effective in living within
their own cultures in the same land. Throughout the years, Maori and Pakeha have learned each
other s ways of living resulting in the adaption of both cultures. This raises the first bicultural
people of New Zealand, the Maori Pakeha; Pakeha that lived in Maori

The Theory And Ethics Of Care
Virtue is habit or quality that allows an individual to succeed though a chosen purpose, with the use
of intelligible teleological that accounts to the meaning of human life; which is categorized by the
moral virtues and intellectual virtues. Virtue ethics is known as virtue theory; which is an approach
to ethicsthat emphasizes an individual s character element through ethical thinking rather than rules
about deontological or consequentialism. It is also said that virtuedoes not primarily identify
universal principles that can be applied to moral situations, but uses deontological and
consequentialist to identify principles. This theory shows that it is based on an individual rather
than actions issues; it does not only deal with the rightness or wrongness of individual actions, but
it provides guidance to sort characteristics and behaviors in the good of an individual who seeks to
achieve rather than fail. Virtual ethics was revived during the Twentieth Century and is composed
of three main directions; which are eudemonism, agent based theory and ethics of care.
Eudemonism is based on human flourishing of one s distinctive functions to do well. It is a
classical formulation of virtue ethicsthat shows proper goals of human life to be achieved by a life
time of practice in everyday activities and the use of wisdom to resolve conflict. Agent based theory
is the virtues that determine common sense intuitions about characteristic traits that are admirable

The White Crucifixion By Marc Chagall
In 1938, Marc Chagall painted the first portrait of his crucifixion series. The White Crucifixion was
developed from his own life experiences and combined both traditional and new customs to further
showcase the interrelation between the disheveled state of humanity that has continued to exist.
This painting has stirred a lot of controversy over the years because of Chagall s sudden change in
themes. Previously, Chagall focused on creating artworks centered on Jewish representations, but
switched to depicting a Christian subject. The White Crucifixion leaves little doubt of Jesuss
identity as a Jew and further argues the interrelationship between Judaismand Christianity. To begin,
when viewers first look at the painting their eyes are drawn to the center of the image, where
Jesus hangs on the cross. A light beam pours down on Jesus from above and we can see Jesus is
depicted much differently than in many other crucifixion portrayals. Here Jesus is wearing a head
cloth instead of a crown of thorns, a loincloth rather than traditional garments, and also has a
beard. From these details, we can clearly note that Chagall is presenting Jesus as a Jew because
much of the clothing parallels Jewish ritual garments. Moreover, the people above Jesus seem to be
mourning His death, but are also wearing Jewish traditional clothing, such as the caps/shawls on
their heads. A menorah can be seen at the bottom by Christ s feet and is the only object with a halo
around it other than the

Kenyan Independence Movement
Kenyan Independence Movement The East Africa Protectorate was first colonized by British
settlers in 1895 and with the creation of the treaty of Versailles in 1920 it officially came under
British control as the colony of Kenya. The people of Kenya were never content with having the
white settlers take their land from them and continuously expressed their thoughts. However, Kenya

All of his attempts to draw sympathy in Europe failed and he returned to Kenya at the end of
World War II to try to get his people a political voice in the government. Originally, the KAU was
only made up of the Kikuyu elite , but ultimately it widens its sphere of influence to encompass
many of the different ethnicities within Kenya. What had started as a small group of intellectuals
would grow to include over 150,000 angry Kenyans by 1951. Kenyatta believed strongly that
violence would only hurt their cause. If they approached things in a political and peaceful manner,
it would show the British that these people were civilized and ready to govern themselves. The
KAU continually tried to gain more political power in the government, but the colonial government
did everything it could to prevent the KAU from succeeding. When the KAU tried appealing to the
British government, they got nothing but promises. The Kenyans started growing restless, waiting
for promises that will never be fulfilled. To many people, violence seemed like the only way to
solve their problems. When peaceful independent movements failed to succeed, people gave up
hope that their problems could be solved peacefully. The building frustration was about to burst.

The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution that occurred in the late Nineteenth Century brought many new jobs that
were drastically different to the jobs that previous Americans held. While agricultural jobs still
existed and were vitally important to the sustainability of the American economy, the new factory
jobs that opened up created many new work opportunities for Americans and immigrants who came
from Europe. However, the problem with all these new industrial jobs was that they had very poor
working conditions and the work hours were long and unfair. This along with the low wages made
these jobs undesirable. Despite this, immigrant workers continued to work under these conditions
because they had nowhere else to obtain work and quitting would make it almost impossible for
them to find a job somewhere else with better working conditions and wages. The result of the low
wages meant that many immigrants living on the East Coast of the United States lived below the
poverty line. There was a fundamental problem with the working and living conditions the
immigrants were experiencing. Two political organizations of this era sought to fix this problem
with two contrasting methods. The Progressive Reformers were a political organization that sought
out to set permanent fixes to these conditions and make it possible for the immigrants to be self
sustaining. On the other hand, the political machines, more specifically Tammany Hall of
Manhattan, sought to make changes by directly helping the

Education And The National Curriculum Framework
While teaching in state maintained schools, it is necessary that the National Curriculum
Framework is followed and children are taught the relevant skills and knowledge stated within
each Programme of Study. Therefore, there must be structure to the lessons where these skills
and knowledge are to be developed throughout the academic year. Previous teaching strategies
required teachers to follow a rigid plan where each individual lesson was to last one hour and be
taught at a certain time on a certain day (i.e. The Literacy Hour). These strategies are no longer
necessary for teachers to follow anymore; it is now possible for teachers to integrate lessons using a
central theme, enabling them to teach pupils in a more imaginative and original way, which will
stimulate children s interest and engagement whilst still developing the necessary skills and
knowledgespecified in the National Curriculum (Sewell, 2015). This integrated curriculum allows
children to pursue learningin a holistic way without the restrictions often imposed by subject
boundaries (Kelly, 2001). Subject integration provides an opportunity for students to make natural
and meaningful connections between and among multiple content areas (Bogan, King McKenzie,
Bantwini, 2012:1055). The human brain does not separate knowledge into discrete partitions but
creates a complex web of information that recognises patterns... , thus thematic teaching works with
the brain rather than counter to its natural function

Saint Emmanuel The Good Martyr Analysis
In Lasallian schools the core principle of concern for the poor and social justice invites students
and staff to be in solidarity with the poor and advocate for those suffering injustices. This means
that people should have awareness of the poor and those who are victims of injustices and respond
to their needs by means of community service and advocacy. This core principle is illustrated in the
novella, Saint Emmanuel the Good, Martyr by Miguel de Unamuno. The main character, Don
Emmanuel is the parson of the city of Valverde. The congregation of this parish look up to Don
Emmanuel, admire him, and are overtaken by his words in mass. However, the narrator reveals
that Don Emmanuel was not a man of faith. Metamorphosis by Kafka, presents a story of a young
man who one day wakes up and is transformed into a bug. As a result of this transformation, he is
mistreated by his familyand considered useless in society. In the case of Saint Emmanuel the Good
Martyr, there is a character that does not believe in God, yet practices concern for the poor and
social justiceon a daily basis. On the other hand, we have a character that yearns what Don
Emmanuel gives to the citizens in Valverde, care and concern. Don Emmanuel is a living
example of someone who follows the Lasallian core principle of concern for the poor and social
justice. Although Don Emmanuel is a controversial character because he does not believe in God, I
don t think this makes concern and care for others

Political And Media Systems And Ownership Practices
In an increasingly globalized and mediated environment, there is an evident rise in awareness
towards the emerging transnational news sphere, as well as the journalistic practices that are
outside of Western media domains with issues of global importance becoming more salient than
ever. These ideas have been explored through the readings as both papers describe certain
characteristics of both political and media systems and ownership practices of news organizations
to gain insight into the implications of global journalism. Whilst Hellman and Reigert focus on
conceptualizing the transnational news sphere, Chakravartty and Roy present a comparative
approach to exploring diversity in journalism through examining the intranational divergences
within the Indian political and media system (Chakravartty and Roy 2013, p.357).
Hellman and Reigert express global journalism as a reporting style that sought to unite people
through identifications that permeate national boundaries, through common human rights or
interests , hence their focus on global crisis journalism (Hellman and Reigert 2012, p.163). Through
exploring the nature of global crisis journalism, Hellman and Reigert question whether there is a
responsibility for journalists to promote what it means to be a citizen of the world through
providing equal coverage of crisis that are within areas that are considered remote by Western
standards. This challenges current practices within national/local journalism, in

Mid Term Break Poem Analysis
Mid Term Break by Seamus Heaney and Report to Wordsworth by Boey Kim Cheng present a
situation of crisis and both convey the significance of life and death to the reader through real life
examples. Heaney s autobiographical Mid Term Break highlights the childhood trauma in
experiencing a death, whilst in Report to Wordsworth Cheng presents a pessimistic view on Nature
s future in response to 19th century environmentalist William Wordsworths work. Nature s fast
paced progression towards deathdue to human negligence is expressed and comparisons to the
beauty of the environment in Wordsworth s work are included with shades of Wordsworth s work
such as Composed upon Westminster Bridge . The grief and devastation that a young death can
cause on a family are sensitively represented in Mid Term Break . Heaney s father, a patriarchal
figure, is completely broken down by enjambment in In the porch I met my father crying He had

The Benefits Of Renewable Energy
Ever since the late 19th century, people have been trying to perfect energy sources to make their
lives easier. An ideal Energy source is one that costs little to produce, little to maintain, and yields a
high energy output. We found a temporary resource that we used for over a century, coal and
natural gases. The problem with sources like these are that they will eventually run out. Renewable
energyis energy that can be produced without depletion. Human have been using a form of
renewable energy for hundreds of years, such as the watermill. Renewable energy is needed
because it will never run out, it is more efficient than today s methods, and it does not pollute the
environment with greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. Renewable energy has many benefits
such as the unlimited supply of it. Renewable energy comes in many forms such as solar,
hydropower, and wind power. Each source can never run out unlike the main suppliers of today will
eventually run out. In a high population country like America, you can bet that a good form of
transportation is needed. In America, the main source of transportation is cars but planes, trains and
boats also largely contribute to CO2
Emissions. The average American uses approximately 23.4 barrels of oil a year. This plus the
amount of people living in the U.S. equates to 20.7 million barrels each day. This leads to the U.S.
importing 2/3rds of its oil from other countries. Since 1999, the oil in these countries have depleted

Chronic Renal Failure Research Paper
Acute renal failure occurs when your kidneys suddenly become unable to filter waste products
from your blood. As a result, dangerous levels of wastes may accumulate and your blood s
chemical makeup may get out of balance. It is usually caused by an event that leads to kidney
malfunction such as dehydration, blood loss from a major surgery or injury, or the use of certain
medications. Symptoms of decreased kidneyfunction, such as fluid buildup or electrolyte imbalance
are more likely to develop with acute renal failure, regardless of how long the kidney itself has been
malfunctioning. The signs and symptoms present may reflect the actual cause of the kidney
problem. For instance, an obstruction in the urinary tract may cause flank pain, blood... Show more

Your kidneys filter wastes and excess fluids from your blood, which are then excreted in your
urine. Initially, there may not be very many signs or symptoms present. As a result, chronic renal
failure may not become apparent until kidney function is significantly impaired. It is not
uncommon for signs and symptoms to develop over time if kidney damage progresses slowly.
With that being said, signs and symptoms of renal failure are often nonspecific and can be caused
by other illnesses. Chronic renal failure usually occurs when a disease or condition impairs kidney
function such as diabetes or hypertension, which causes kidney damage to worsen over several
months or years. Unfortunately, this can potentially lead to other problems including anemia and
increased levels of phosphate in the blood. There are several different forms of treatment for
chronic renal failure, consisting mostly of medications. These medications are used to treat the
following: high blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, anemia, relieve swelling and protection
of bones. In addition, a lower protein diet may be recommended to minimize waste products in
your blood. If your kidneys are unable to maintain waste and fluid clearance on their own,
however, dialysis and or a kidney transplant may be

Assessing the Perceived Image of Citizens about Romanian...
In a society which has become increasingly more complex, the role of Police forces tends to be
versatile. Accordingly, lately, researchers gave a special attention to subjects regarding Police, and
implicitly to the public image of the institution.
Generally, the police image is conceptualized based on three main categories: overall image,
outcomes and process (Mastrofski, 1998). The overall image of police reflects perceptions, feelings
and evaluations about the police in general. As Gallagher, Maguire, Mastrofski, Reisig (2001)
stated, this area includes various general descriptions and analysis of the confidence and trust in the
police (e.g., Hough, Jackson Bradford, 2013; Stanko, Jackson, Bradford Kohl, 2012), satisfaction

The original form proposed by Osgood et. al (1957) was structured on three dimensions: Evaluation,
Potency and Activity, and has been confirmed by previous pan cultural studies (e.g. Heise, 1970;
Osgood, May Miron, 1975, etc.). Evaluation relates to goodness or badness, morality, utility, etc.,
Potency to magnitude, social power, strength, expansiveness, etc., whereas Activity relates to speed,
animation, spontaneity, etc. (Heise, 2010).
Although it was frequently used to measure attitudes (Osgood et al., 1957) or the meaning of
concepts (Doyle Bottomley, 2010; Mindak, 1961), SDS has proven useful in many areas, including
in the assessment of organizational image (de ex. Bonner George, 1988; Van Heerden Puth, 1995),
corporate image, advertising image, brand or service image, also (Smith Albaum, 2005).
In order to measure the meaning of the concept, the semantic differentiator usually uses a five or
seven point scale, based on a list of bipolar paired terms, with opposite meaning. According to their
disposition, attitude or image of the assessed construct, respondents select a point on the interval
for each contrasting pair. Each interval is expressed by quantifiers with certain magnitudes, with a
neutral point as central quantifier (Lopes, Nogueira Martins, Andrade Barros, 2011).

Hokusai s The Great Wave Off Kanagawa
It appears everywhere: in the art gallery, on the dresses from the latest runway show and even on

of Japanese art, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. These blue waves, generating from the sea of
Kanagawa, immediately rippled through the world and continue to draw millions of people. The
work has such an everlasting charm because it enjoys high artistic, ideological, and historical
value. Firstly, the woodcut itself is aesthetically expressive and features the traditional Japanese
aesthetic taste. Created by Japanese ukiyo e artist Hokusai in his late years, it shows how skillful
he became in keeping the balance between realistic style and impressionistic style. What mostly
catches our eyes is the sea that dominates the composition as an extending wave about to break.

work was created, in 1853, the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry and his black ships forced
Japan to open to the world. Ships stemmed on from harbors, carrying goods with printed ukiyo e

My Father And Brother
It was late fall in 2009 when I quietly sat on the plane looking after my youngest brother who
was restlessly sitting besides me. We were heading back to my hometown, Kotzebue, Alaska, for
a reason I did not know about. Sitting without any worry at all, I over heard my mom quietly

the house to check on us and tell us it was going to be okay. At this time, Search and Rescue were

and could not find them. My dad said they went caribou hunting and saw a big herd of caribou that
they planned on distracting. So my dad and brother split up with my uncle to go and distract the

Sexual Orientation Controversy
The word gay is a difficult word to define in our society and with so much controversy people
must be careful on their ideas surrounding the subject. However out of the four categories
discussed to depict sexual orientation is would have to be the fourth and final one which is
claimed sexual orientation. For the first chose it was anything ever which is not correct because a

  • 2. Red Flour Beetles Lab INTRODUCTION In this lab, the class discovered the effects of different substrates and stimuli on red flour beetles. Red flour beetles eat flour and other grains and the female beetle deposits her eggs on flour, cereal, dry pet food, or other similar products. The larvae hatch and then begin to eat the material around them. In the article Patch exploitation by Tribolium castaneum: Movement patterns, distribution, and oviposition , it says that most of the activity from red flour beetles is spent in food sources (Campbell and Hagstrum). There are many factors that affect the red flour beetles ability to survive or reproduce, like temperature, food source, stress, and genetics (Biology 159). In Humidity Reactions of Tribolium Castaneum (Herbst) , it states that red flour beetles are attracted to different substrates due to their nutritional levels and moisture level of the substrate (Willis and Roth).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first hypothesis for this lab is that, if red flour beetles are placed in the center of a dish with wheat flour on one side and white flour on the other, then more beetles will go to their preferred substrate. Our prediction is that the white flour side will occupy more red flour beetles than the oat flour side of the dish because that is the preferred substrate. The null hypothesis is that there will be no preference between the two substrates. The second hypothesis for this lab is that, when red flour beetles are placed in the center of the petri dish with sugar on one side and white flour on the other, then more beetles will go to the preferred substrate. Our prediction is that the white flour side, again, will be the preferred substrate and occupy more red flour beetles. The null hypothesis is that there will be no preference between the two ... Powerful Regional Differences National Unity or Powerful Regional Differences Since the Civil War, the United States has undergone many changes in the people s attitude towards each other and the government. I believe that the United States has gone through both national unity and powerful regional differences since the Civil War ended in 1865. The national unity of the nation took awhile to come together, and it started with the Civil Rights movement. The Civil Rights movement started to make the american people come together and fight for a single thought or idea. Martin Luther King Jr. was the idealized figure behindthis movement. He wanted blacks to have equal rights as whites, and he made sure everyone knew that. He gave speeches, held rallies, and protested companies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sir Isaac Newton And Albert Einstein Sir Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein are though by many to be two of the greatest scientific minds to exist since the scientific enlightenment. Although they existed nearly 150 years apart, their work is still used in modern technology. Many people think of Newton only as the person who thought about gravity and Einstein as the one who made an equation, but these two scientific revolutionaries are much more complex. Newton and Einstein may have had very different personal lives, but they are both scientist whose contributions to society are still relevant today. On January 4, 1643 Isaac Newton was born in Lincolnshire, England according to Biography.com. The soon to be revolutionary came from humble beginnings. Newton s father, a ... During this time, he also became very outspoken against racism as a result of the events in WWII Germany and twentieth century America. Seventy six years later, he died of a rupture in his aorta in New Jersey Biogrophy.com said. Isaac Newton is seen by historians as an unusual man while Albert Einstein, not seen as a social butterfly, is a lot more conventional than Newton. To begin, Newton is reported to never have any romantic contact with anyone. Even when his life settled down, he did not get married as most of his colleagues did. On the other hand, Einstein s fascination with women is profound. In most of his personal papers, he talks of how monogamy is not a natural human idea and he never is loyal to a single woman. He is reported to get married twice. On a different note, the religious beliefs of the two men varies greatly. Newton has written many books on his strong Christian beliefs. All of his work strengthened his belief in God. In contrast, Einstein would never accept a personal God and his belief in one is at discussion to this day. Even though they have great personal differences, both men are scientist and have a child like wonder that propels their work. Secondly, the work of both men is similar yet contradictory. ... Now, let us capture a closer view of it, there is writing on it, just another dirty worn out used mitt, right? To Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, this basically describes his entire life, from the worn out seams to the faded fabric to the smudged green ink to the slight lingering scent. It was Allie, his younger brother s, mitt. Incidentally, he died from leukemia at a young age and never acquired the experience of the joys of childhood. At any rate, Holden had a ruined childhood and almost every living moment gives him misery. One day when Holden was walking along Fifth Avenue, he began to sidetrack and feel like he would never succeed to the other side of the street and that he kept on moving forward down, down, and down and no one would ever notice him again. This is where he began to imagine he was walking with Allie by saying to him, Allie, don t let me disappear. Allie, don t let me disappear. Allie, don t let me disappear. Please, Allie (Salinger 198) and later appreciate him for helping him. He has gone astray and is lonely with no direction in life and cannot find his Elysium. • 6. The Outreaching Christian Mission in Let the Nations Be... In the realm of outreaching Christian mission, there is a voice who is talking an intelligible message. In Let the Nations Be Glad!, John Piper makes a superb showing task of treating a few significant points identified with missions and the explanation behind missions in today s self serving, postmodern world. He tackles head on with numerous diverse incorrect musings and convictions identified with missions and he gives a brief scriptural reply to each of them. In every one, he explains why missions have either floundered or succeeded. Piper exhibits a perfection in missions which has the glory of Godas its preeminent, larger purpose. One of the main aims of Piper is that missionaries are not to become casualties in the battle to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think it might have been exceptional to say God exists and is to be revered I assume that if God had not made the sky and the earth and the whole celestial host, He might not be pitiful or dejected. He is self existent and He doesn t need anything. As if expecting negative reactions, on page 34, Piper makes up for himself in this minor lapse of misstatements by recovering God s character, He has no deficiencies or needs or defects. He relies totally on himself for all that he is My major gripe about this book, is that it is longer than it needs to be. Piper has a practice of taking twice the length he needs to in making a point. Once in a while this is a direct result of his uncontrolled utilization of proof texting. Different times Piper appears to be so plan intent on making his point that he marshals utilizes all of proof he can, instead of basically selecting the best to help his case. It is possible that way, this book could likely be 33% shorter and not miss a thing. John Piper has a few quirks that appear in a large portion of his compositions, and in this work there is no special case. They don t trouble me, however some may not like it (yet generally in case you re as of now inclined to aversion some of his works). In any case, I get a kick out of them, so here are a couple: Over hyphenization: My enthusiasm is to see individuals, chapels, mission offices, and social services get to be God focused, Christ commending, My ardor is to see ... • 8. Prohibition and Al Capone Out of the turmoil and the collapse of law and order in the 1920 s, perhaps the most recognized figure to emerge from the time is Al Capone. The New York Times said of Al Capone that he was the symbol of a shameful era, the monstrous symptom of a disease which was eating into the conscience of America. Looking back on it now, this period of Prohibition in full, ugly flower seems fantastically incredible. Capone himself was incredible, the creation of an ugly dream . (www.umich.edu) He impacted society through his ruthless tactics, secret alliances, and penetrant for violence typified by the St. Valentine s Day massacre. Capone controlled many businesses in Chicago such as speakeasies, gambling houses, brothels, horse and race tracks, etc. at an approximated income of $100,000,000 a year. For several years, Al Caponewas never convicted for the crimes he committed, and when he did, he had an alibi or there was never sufficient evidence against him. Al Capone had more power in society than most of the political leaders did during that time period. It took Al Capone his whole life to achieve the power he had in the Roaring 20 s. Alphonsus Capone, best known as Al Capone, was born on January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn New York. At the age of fourteen, he dropped out of school and became a member of the Five Point Gangin Manhattan. In the book many times Corrie shows compassion and forgiveness. This book takes place in the Netherlands. I like history and this was a great story given during WWII, during the Nazi reign. The story starts off slow not much going on, except Corrie is sick. Her parents think that she has tuberculosis, which was incurable back then. How Is Queen Elizabeth A Good Queen After the death of Queen Mary, John White held her funeral to which he praised her: She was a king s daughter; she was a king s sister; she was a king s wife. She was a queen, and by the same title a king also. Despite the fact of her reign and her prescustion on many Protestants, she was depicted as a good queen. Since Mary s rule, she could be held a stretch from a feminist icon. Through her reign, she allowed the crown to be taken up by any gender, and ensued a law to protect against those who opposed so. Additionally, Mary restructured the economy and reorganised the militia, rebuilt the navy and successfully managed her parliament. By securing the throne, Mary ensured that the crown continued along the legal line of Tudor succession. Meanwhile her death alerted the citizens of England, as well as her enemies and loyalists, many Protestants could be deemed happy. A written Partnership Agreement covers various legal matters, such as; partner contributed equity, how profits/losses will be distributed, and the name of the partnership. A partnership has many advantages. It offers lower establishment costs compared to setting up a company. It allows a group of people to contribute their knowledge, skills, specialities, and allows for all financial assets to be combined. In the future, it would permit their children to be involved in the business. Also the partnership structure can be changed to meet longer term goals. A disadvantage of a partnership is unlimited liability, meaning personal assets are at risk. Also if a partner incurs any debts or dies, the other partner(s) are liable (see Appendix A, page 8). Private companies are the most common company structure in Australia and are often family owned, small to medium sized businesses. They can have 1 50 owners who buy shares to contribute capital. Once incorporated, the business becomes its own legal entity. This means that shareholders have limited liability equal to the amount of shares they own and none of their personal assets are at risk. On the other hand some heros do get noticed for their courageous acts and are rewarded with a medalor other objects that signified they have helped the world. • 17. Informative Speech About Ebola Today I will be writing about Ebola and if it will become a worldwide pandemic. To start off, I will briefly explain what Ebola is. Ebola (also known as Ebola Virus Disease or EVD) is a severe virus that started in late 1996 and was first misdiagnosed as a new form of malaria. I can understand why they diagnosed the patients with malaria, the early symptoms were similar, but the main reason is that they never knew Ebola even existed. Soon after, 1st September to be more precise, there was a large outbreak and there were approximately [1]280 deaths and only 38 confirmed survivors. The Ebola virus can spread very easily even though it is not airborne, though it is waterborne and can be passed on through close contact as well as STD s and through mother to child. The area that has been most infected is in Africa because of the lack of facilities and healthcare staff available in the area as well as poor training. Another reason is that the burial rituals include kissing touching and close contact. This causes Ebola to spread faster since it can stay on a dead persons body for up to six months There are many symptoms for Ebola including the following; [2] Fever Severe headache Joint and muscle aches Chills Weakness Nausea and vomiting Diarrhoea (may be bloody) Red eyes Raised rash Chest pain and cough Stomach pain Severe weight loss Bleeding, usually from the eyes, and bruising (people near death may bleed from other orifices, such as ears, nose, and rectum) Internal bleeding ... • 18. Aoteaora New Zealand s Society Essay Biculturalism has a massive role in Aoteaora New Zealand s society and has a massive impact in its history. Having a clear understanding of it is crucial in order to be more appreciative of how diverse New Zealand s society has become, and it also helps us discern the negative aspects of diversity and multiculturalism. By examining and understanding biculturalism, it helps us discern the Treaty of Waitangi s role and influences in the human services provision here in New Zealand. Biculturalism is quite a specific concept, but there are many diverse perceptions and interpretations on what it should look like. Ultimately, we can define biculturalism as two distinct cultures that exist in the same place and country (Random House Kernerman Webster s College Dictionary, 2010). Biculturalism in New Zealand refers to the two dominant cultures here, which are Maori and Pakeha (Ritchie, 1992). It has been known that New Zealand, before the Treaty of Waitangi was established, was widely a bicultural nation. The British settlers and Maori were exploring and examining ways to live in parallel with each other (Hayward, 2012). New Zealand was bicultural in multiple ways as both communities were effective in living within their own cultures in the same land. Throughout the years, Maori and Pakeha have learned each other s ways of living resulting in the adaption of both cultures. • 19. The Theory And Ethics Of Care Virtue is habit or quality that allows an individual to succeed though a chosen purpose, with the use of intelligible teleological that accounts to the meaning of human life; which is categorized by the moral virtues and intellectual virtues. Virtue ethics is known as virtue theory; which is an approach to ethicsthat emphasizes an individual s character element through ethical thinking rather than rules about deontological or consequentialism. It is also said that virtuedoes not primarily identify universal principles that can be applied to moral situations, but uses deontological and consequentialist to identify principles. This theory shows that it is based on an individual rather than actions issues; it does not only deal with the rightness or wrongness of individual actions, but it provides guidance to sort characteristics and behaviors in the good of an individual who seeks to achieve rather than fail. Virtual ethics was revived during the Twentieth Century and is composed of three main directions; which are eudemonism, agent based theory and ethics of care. Eudemonism is based on human flourishing of one s distinctive functions to do well. It is a classical formulation of virtue ethicsthat shows proper goals of human life to be achieved by a life time of practice in everyday activities and the use of wisdom to resolve conflict. • 20. The White Crucifixion By Marc Chagall In 1938, Marc Chagall painted the first portrait of his crucifixion series. The White Crucifixion was developed from his own life experiences and combined both traditional and new customs to further showcase the interrelation between the disheveled state of humanity that has continued to exist. This painting has stirred a lot of controversy over the years because of Chagall s sudden change in themes. Previously, Chagall focused on creating artworks centered on Jewish representations, but switched to depicting a Christian subject. The White Crucifixion leaves little doubt of Jesuss identity as a Jew and further argues the interrelationship between Judaismand Christianity. To begin, when viewers first look at the painting their eyes are drawn to the center of the image, where Jesus hangs on the cross. A light beam pours down on Jesus from above and we can see Jesus is depicted much differently than in many other crucifixion portrayals. Here Jesus is wearing a head cloth instead of a crown of thorns, a loincloth rather than traditional garments, and also has a beard. From these details, we can clearly note that Chagall is presenting Jesus as a Jew because much of the clothing parallels Jewish ritual garments. Moreover, the people above Jesus seem to be mourning His death, but are also wearing Jewish traditional clothing, such as the caps/shawls on their heads. A menorah can be seen at the bottom by Christ s feet and is the only object with a halo around it other than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution that occurred in the late Nineteenth Century brought many new jobs that were drastically different to the jobs that previous Americans held. While agricultural jobs still existed and were vitally important to the sustainability of the American economy, the new factory jobs that opened up created many new work opportunities for Americans and immigrants who came from Europe. However, the problem with all these new industrial jobs was that they had very poor working conditions and the work hours were long and unfair. This along with the low wages made these jobs undesirable. Despite this, immigrant workers continued to work under these conditions because they had nowhere else to obtain work and quitting would make it almost impossible for them to find a job somewhere else with better working conditions and wages. The result of the low wages meant that many immigrants living on the East Coast of the United States lived below the poverty line. There was a fundamental problem with the working and living conditions the immigrants were experiencing. Two political organizations of this era sought to fix this problem with two contrasting methods. The Progressive Reformers were a political organization that sought out to set permanent fixes to these conditions and make it possible for the immigrants to be self sustaining. • 24. Education And The National Curriculum Framework While teaching in state maintained schools, it is necessary that the National Curriculum Framework is followed and children are taught the relevant skills and knowledge stated within each Programme of Study. Therefore, there must be structure to the lessons where these skills and knowledge are to be developed throughout the academic year. Previous teaching strategies required teachers to follow a rigid plan where each individual lesson was to last one hour and be taught at a certain time on a certain day (i.e. The Literacy Hour). These strategies are no longer necessary for teachers to follow anymore; it is now possible for teachers to integrate lessons using a central theme, enabling them to teach pupils in a more imaginative and original way, which will stimulate children s interest and engagement whilst still developing the necessary skills and knowledgespecified in the National Curriculum (Sewell, 2015). This integrated curriculum allows children to pursue learningin a holistic way without the restrictions often imposed by subject boundaries (Kelly, 2001). Subject integration provides an opportunity for students to make natural and meaningful connections between and among multiple content areas (Bogan, King McKenzie, Bantwini, 2012:1055). • 25. Saint Emmanuel The Good Martyr Analysis In Lasallian schools the core principle of concern for the poor and social justice invites students and staff to be in solidarity with the poor and advocate for those suffering injustices. This means that people should have awareness of the poor and those who are victims of injustices and respond to their needs by means of community service and advocacy. This core principle is illustrated in the novella, Saint Emmanuel the Good, Martyr by Miguel de Unamuno. The main character, Don Emmanuel is the parson of the city of Valverde. The congregation of this parish look up to Don Emmanuel, admire him, and are overtaken by his words in mass. However, the narrator reveals that Don Emmanuel was not a man of faith. Metamorphosis by Kafka, presents a story of a young man who one day wakes up and is transformed into a bug. As a result of this transformation, he is mistreated by his familyand considered useless in society. In the case of Saint Emmanuel the Good Martyr, there is a character that does not believe in God, yet practices concern for the poor and social justiceon a daily basis. On the other hand, we have a character that yearns what Don Emmanuel gives to the citizens in Valverde, care and concern. Political And Media Systems And Ownership Practices In an increasingly globalized and mediated environment, there is an evident rise in awareness towards the emerging transnational news sphere, as well as the journalistic practices that are outside of Western media domains with issues of global importance becoming more salient than ever. These ideas have been explored through the readings as both papers describe certain characteristics of both political and media systems and ownership practices of news organizations to gain insight into the implications of global journalism. Whilst Hellman and Reigert focus on conceptualizing the transnational news sphere, Chakravartty and Roy present a comparative approach to exploring diversity in journalism through examining the intranational divergences within the Indian political and media system (Chakravartty and Roy 2013, p.357). Hellman and Reigert express global journalism as a reporting style that sought to unite people through identifications that permeate national boundaries, through common human rights or interests , hence their focus on global crisis journalism (Hellman and Reigert 2012, p.163). Through exploring the nature of global crisis journalism, Hellman and Reigert question whether there is a responsibility for journalists to promote what it means to be a citizen of the world through providing equal coverage of crisis that are within areas that are considered remote by Western standards. An ideal Energy source is one that costs little to produce, little to maintain, and yields a high energy output. We found a temporary resource that we used for over a century, coal and natural gases. The problem with sources like these are that they will eventually run out. Renewable energyis energy that can be produced without depletion. Human have been using a form of renewable energy for hundreds of years, such as the watermill. Renewable energy is needed because it will never run out, it is more efficient than today s methods, and it does not pollute the environment with greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. The overall image of police reflects perceptions, feelings and evaluations about the police in general. As Gallagher, Maguire, Mastrofski, Reisig (2001) stated, this area includes various general descriptions and analysis of the confidence and trust in the police (e.g., Hough, Jackson Bradford, 2013; Stanko, Jackson, Bradford Kohl, 2012), satisfaction with ... In order to measure the meaning of the concept, the semantic differentiator usually uses a five or seven point scale, based on a list of bipolar paired terms, with opposite meaning. According to their disposition, attitude or image of the assessed construct, respondents select a point on the interval for each contrasting pair. Each interval is expressed by quantifiers with certain magnitudes, with a neutral point as central quantifier (Lopes, Nogueira Martins, Andrade Barros, 2011). As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Hokusai s The Great Wave Off Kanagawa It appears everywhere: in the art gallery, on the dresses from the latest runway show and even on your iPhone s protective case......What I m talking about is one of the most distinguished pieces of Japanese art, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. These blue waves, generating from the sea of Kanagawa, immediately rippled through the world and continue to draw millions of people. The work has such an everlasting charm because it enjoys high artistic, ideological, and historical value. Firstly, the woodcut itself is aesthetically expressive and features the traditional Japanese aesthetic taste. Created by Japanese ukiyo e artist Hokusai in his late years, it shows how skillful he became in keeping the balance between realistic style and impressionistic style. What mostly catches our eyes is the sea that dominates the composition as an extending wave about to break. Both the deep blue of the inner side of the curve and the splash of its... Even though Hokusai was a traditional Japanese artist, he had been absorbing painting skills from the west and The Great Wave off Kanagawa also used perspective in a way that any Japanese viewer would have found thoroughly western. (Screech, 2012, p105). Not long after the work was created, in 1853, the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry and his black ships forced Japan to open to the world. Ships stemmed on from harbors, carrying goods with printed ukiyo e on the wrappers which soon arouse the interests of the western world. Critics especially praised Hokusai as among the greatest masters of all time. As Screech (2012, p105) stated, Hokusai seemed to show, at just the right time, that Japan was not just a borrowing nation but an originating one too. Impressionist artists were also inspired by his stylish work to develop an entirely new way of representing and even seeing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In life we all go through events and trials and make mistakes. Mistakes are what make us human, it s all apart of life. So in A Christmas Carol at around Stave 2, Ebenezer Scrooge was visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past, he was the first of the three spirits that would visit Scrooge later on in the story. He would take Scrooge to Christmas scenes of Scrooge s childhood and youth, which would bring him back old memories old that reminded him of a time when he was nice. These scenes portray Scrooge s lonely childhood, his relationship with his beloved sister Fan and a Christmas party hosted by his first employer Mr. Fezziwig who treated Scrooge like a son. Then there is a visit later in time to the then married Belle s large and happy family on Christmas Eve. All of this causes Scrooge regret because he had a shot at happiness and settling down with a nice women, but his greed got the best of him. Having greed as a character trait does nothing but push people away, and that s exactly why Scrooge is alone. At times there are moments in life where we think if we chose better decisions, than our life would have been different for the better. At times I think that if I chose different decisions my freshman year, High school would have been better for me. Literally nothing would have been the same, and that s exactly Scrooges case here, he could have controlled his greed, but since he couldn t, he has no Tim Katon Lange English ... • 34. My Father And Brother It was late fall in 2009 when I quietly sat on the plane looking after my youngest brother who was restlessly sitting besides me. We were heading back to my hometown, Kotzebue, Alaska, for a reason I did not know about. Sitting without any worry at all, I over heard my mom quietly speaking to a friend in the aisle in front of us. My mom gravely explained to her that my father and brother are lost in a bitterly cold and extremely windy snowstorm outside of town. On that frigid October night, our hearts were colder than ever before. I reflected on the horrible, life changing situation as I looked out the airplane window into the dark sky. It s like my eyes were bleeding fear that my heart was feeling, what would I do without my father and brother around? We finally landed in Kotzebue where our familycame to greet us with warm hugs. They had so much food and desserts made for when we got to my Aunty s house. Every one we knew stopped by the house to check on us and tell us it was going to be okay. At this time, Search and Rescue were already looking for my father and brother outside the town. They searched and searched for them and could not find them. My dad said they went caribou hunting and saw a big herd of caribou that they planned on distracting. So my dad and brother split up with my uncle to go and distract the caribou. In an instant, a foggy snow stormrolled through and they could not see town at all. My dad was driving the snow machine in circles, trying to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I told them. They reached for their bags and hustled at the small cottage, knowing that they weren t coming back. We circled around the house, reaching for a small garage which held our escape. We were well hidden, living on a ranch and tending to crops in the nowhere of Texas until the Horde figured out that they had Alliance adventurers in the nearby area. Syl had opened the door into the garage and led us in. She acted as the mother of the group, even though we were the same age. Once, we had circled the stone, Syl had us put our hands on the stone. The stone s cold, hard surface was our salvation in that situation. I spoke the incantation with regret and the hearthstone reacted by glowing and humming. I resented going back to the Alliance but I had no other hope to save the kids. At a policy level, decisions informed by evidence contribute to more efficient resource allocation and, at the delivery level, information about the quality and effectiveness of services can contribute to better outcomes. Information systems, particularly at lower levels of the health system, need to be simple and maintainable and not a burden with health delivery staff or are too costly to run. Staff need feedback on how the routine data they collect can be used and also need to understand the importance of good quality data for improving health. Capacity building is required to ensure policymakers at all levels have the ability to use and understand health data, whether ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
