Anti-Semitism In France
Many examinations of World War II begin with what if as an attempt at better understanding the
consequences of the events. However, if the primary source materials that are available remain
unexamined, whether in part or as a whole, then the consequences of the event remain slightly out of
reach. Such is the case of the German occupation of France during World War II. France fell and
surrendered to German forces in June of 1940. The French and German armistice agreed to separate
the nation into two zones, the northern Occupied Zone and the southern Unoccupied Zone, which was
also known as the Free Zone. France s fledgling Vichy government controlled the south and the
German government controlled the north along the Demarcation Line. During the war, France lost
roughly 567,600 lives, more than half of which were civilians. However, it was not until the mid
1990s when the French President, Jacques Chirac, confessed to the French responsibility of those lives
lost, that French culpability was truly studied by scholars. Historians have argued both before and
after the 1990s that the French were either collaborating with the Nazis or accommodating them as a
means of preserving their identity. However, prior to the confession France had kept many documents
unavailable to scholars and the general public, making a thorough examination of life in ... Show more

In 1939, Prime Minister Édouard Daladier attempted to curb growing anti Semitism in France by

similar, particularly in the media. However, some historians find Daladier s political platform to

Effects Of Poverty In Nigeria
Poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon. Poverty is a denial of choices and opportunities, a
violation of human dignity. It means lack of basic capacity to participate effectively in society. It
means not having enough to feed and clothe a family, not having a school or clinic to go to; not having
the land on which to grow one s food or a job to earn one s living, not having access to credit. It means
insecurity, powerlessness and exclusion of individuals, households and communities. It means
susceptibility to violence, and it often implies living on marginal or fragile environments, without
access to clean water or sanitation. It has risen in Nigeria with almost 100 million people living on less
than $1 a day, despite economic growth, statistics have shown. The ethical theory associated with this
is the egoism theory which I picked as in place of the Nigerian leaders who only look out for their
families. Comparing this economy and government to that of Dubai is overwhelming as everyone
knows Dubai for its vast expense of riches and brilliant government.
In Nigeria, widespread and severe poverty is a reality. It is a reality that depicts a lack of food, clothes,
education and other basic amenities. Severely poor people lack the most basic necessities of life to a
degree that it can be wondered how they manage to survive. There are several effects and deficiencies
associated with poverty in Nigeria. One of the main effects of poverty is poor health, as is reflected

Lao Tzu Vs. Machiavelli
Government
(Lao tzu V. Machiavelli) What is government? Government is the governing body of nation, state, or
community. Government determines the way any group of people are ran. There a several different
types of government used all around the world. In the United States for example, uses a type of
government that has three different branches of power. The Legislative Branch is the law making
branch. The Judicial branch is the courts and the low enforcement. Lastly, the Executive branch is the
presidential branch. Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they work together to make
the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not ignored or disallowed.
(Osborne) Usually, governments break up the responsibilities into two or more groups. Two very
influential writers wrote about their views on government; Lao tzu and Machiavelli. These writers
were in very different times which makes it very interesting to compare their views. Lao tzu and
Machiavelli had very different views on the ultimate purpose of government, the obligations of
government leaders, and the main work of the state. To begin, Lao tzu s and Machiavelli s views on
the ultimate purpose of government are very different. First of all, Lao tzu s idea of the purpose of
government is more as a suggestion or a guide. Lao tzu believes that government should not be a part
of people s personal lives in any way shape or form. He believes in a very simple type of government.

The Works Of William Shakespeare And Sir Philip Sidney
Edmund Spenser was a notorious English poet known for writing the long allegorical poem The Faerie
Queen. Born into a family of very little wealth he was enrolled into the Merchant Taylors grammar
school. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge where he received his Bachelor of
Arts degree in 1573. The time he spent at Cambridge was undoubtly very crucial for the acquisition of
his wide knowledge not only of the Latin and some of the Greek classics but also of the Italian,
French, and English Literature of his own and earlier times. Without the Roman epic poet Virgil s
Aeneid, the 15th century Italian Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later, Torquato Tasso s
Gerusalemme liberata (1581), Spenser could not have written his heroic, or epic, poem The Faerie
Queene. The corpus of Spenser can be discussed in the context of the works of William Shakespeare
and Sir Philip Sidney. The three share an influence in the same popular Renaissance literary genre,
Pastoral, which can be depicted as an idealized vision of a simpler, rural life and a longing for a lost
world of innocence. Much happened in the time of the Renaissance, including Reformation and an
epidemic so it made sense to want to write about less complex ways of living as a way to escape
reality.
In The Faerie Queen, Spenser writes with the intent to show young men what better virtues to
cultivate in their lives. He does an excellent job doing this by his use of symbolism and descriptive
imagery.

Using The Methods Of Categorization And Compartmentalization
Check One Using the methods of categorization and compartmentalization in order to more easily
comprehend difficult subjects is natural, yet when the objects subjected to forced categorical
placement are human beings, how can this method still be justified? When taking a standardized test,
filling out legal paperwork, or taking a census, we are presented with a question that, in some cases,
might be more difficult than all of the following questions on an exam. Staring up from the page are
the words Ethnicity: (Choose One) followed by a series of boxes next to words such as White , Black ,
Asian , etc. When did the colors White and Black , a singular phenotypic characteristic, come to
define an entire race? This perception of color stems from colonial times when white Euro colonizers
imposed their self righteous attitudes of white supremacy on their newly acquired lands. These ideals
involved in the creation of the binaries of black and white, which originate in the slave and master
relationship established in the exploitation of African (black) slaves by European colonizers and
plantation owners (white). In L. Kaifa Roland s Cuban Color in Tourism and La Lucha: An
Ethnography of Racial Meanings and Junot Diaz s How to Date a Brown Girl, Black Girl, White Girl,
or Halfie , the authors explore the trials faced by modern day colored people. These authors delve into
how the color and racial hierarchies effect perceptions of stereotypes, self image, and overall

Common Sense by Thomas Paine
Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine and published in 1776. Paine wrote it as a plea for the
American people to break away from Britain and to declare independence from the king. He was
asking his audience to take a step back and see that just because something is tradition, does not mean
it is necessarily right. Paine wanted to show his readers that government and society is not the same
thing, which is how most people viewed it. Society was something that people should want to have,
while a government is something that people had to have in order to keep themselves in check. That
by paying the various taxes, the people were inadvertently paying to live in such bad conditions.
America should break away from and form a democratic party, one that allowed the people to decide
what rules they should have. Britain was too far away to be able to rule the colonies correctly. That in
being so far away it would take forever for Parliament to respond to any complaints that America
might have. Britain was not a favorite with other countries and therefore the colonies were at a greater
risk of war because of it. He spoke to his readers in a way so that even the simplest of people would
understand how desperately America needed to establish its independence. Some people thought that
the dispute between America and Britain should be resolved, Paine wanted to show the people that
even if the two came to a satisfactory agreement, that it would not last. The history

Analysis Of How To Close A Gender Gap By Claire Miller
In How to Close a Gender Gap, author Claire Miller asserts that increased flexibility in the workplace
could take notable strides towards eliminating the gender pay gap. Miller cites research that has
concluded the high expectation for extended periods of time to be spent at the desk working can partly
explain the gap because they have disproportionate responsibility (1) when it comes to taking care of
children. This is inopportune for women because they want to be rewarded for their hard work, and
that goal should not be sacrificed by the choice to have a child. To add to her claim, the author
describes a company called Werk that offer flexible hours and do not require all work to be completed
at an office. As referred to in the text, research

The Cultural Tradition Of Bodily Adornment
In Russia, the typical greeting is a firm, almost bone crushing handshake. It is also important to
maintain direct eye contact. When a man shakes hands with a woman, the handshake is less firm.
When greeting each other, it is normal for women to kiss each other three times, while alternating
cheeks. This form of greeting is influenced by social histories. The Karen Pa Dong Hill tribe is
probably most recognized by its cultural tradition of bodily adornment. Pa Dong means someone who
wears brass rings. It is thought that the tribe s custom of elongating necks through the wearing of brass
rings stems from myths. The most popular myth states that the headman of the tribe had a dream in
which a tiger was about to attack and kill one of the most popular children in the village. Since tigers
always kill their victims by first breaking their necks, the headman decreed that all children must wear
heavy brass rings around their necks to protect them. Since the tiger attack never came to pass, it was
thought that the wearing of brass rings worked and protected them. Wearing brass neck rings is
considered to be a beautiful form of bodily adornment that stems from their cultural group histories.

Detection of Biological Molecules
Detection of Biological Molecules
Introduction: Without carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, sulfur, oxygen and phosphorus, life wouldn t exist.
These are the most abundant elements in living organisms.
These elements are held together by covalent bonds, ionic bonds, hydrogen bonds, and disulfide
bonds. Covalent bonds are especially strong, thus, are present in monomers, the building blocks of
life. These monomers combine to make polymers, which is a long chain of monomers strung together.
Biological molecules can be distinguished by their functional groups. For example, an amino group is
present in amino acids, and a carboxyl group can always be found in fatty acids.
The groups can be separated into two more categories, the polar, ... Show more content on

SUDAN III TEST
Introduction: Sudan III test detects the hydrocarbon groups that are remaining in the molecule. Due to
the fact that the hydrocarbon groups are nonpolar, and stick tightly together with their polar
surroundings, it is called a hydrophobic interaction and this is the basis for the Sudan III test. If the

3) Have you had trouble falling or staying asleep, or sleeping too much?
4) Have you been feeling tired or had little energy?

responses today it s very likely that you could be suffering from some form of depression but only an
experienced health professional can tell for sure. You should make an appointment to see your GP as
soon as possible or call NHS 111. They will be able to help you and offer some form of treatment.

Economic Development For A Defined Area
Economic development for a defined area has three primary goals foster employment opportunities for
the area s current residents, diversify the area s economic and employment base, and stabilize the local
economy (Blakely Leigh, 2013). By providing quality jobs for an area s residents, versus the more
costly alternative of bringing new firms to the area (which could also require a different skill set in
their labor force than what the city currently has rendering the city s effort somewhat fruitless), the
economic planning organization is looking to create employment diversity and opportunities from
within their own community that are suitable for the area s workforce. An area must also be highly
aware of the business environment within the community to ensure that local economic stability is
possible. If the city does not have a diverse infrastructure that firms require to conduct business than
the locality will not be able to grow, retain, or attract firms within or to the area. Diversity in the
economic and employment base is also a complex and constantly evolving challenge for local
economic development practitioners. The organization must be able to keep track and organize
employment data within a locality to see where certain sectors of the economy are in the need of
assistance to prevent employment gaps in the community. Planner s should be constantly comparing
their strategies and approaches to the three goals local economic development, and prevent any action

The History of the Canonization of the Bible The process by which the English Bible, as it is known
to the English culture today, was compiled is an extraordinary thing to see. The Bible consists of two
parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The process by which both Testaments were written
and then canonized into one book transpired over a period of many years. Once the canonization of
the Bible officially came to an end, it was translated into English. Since then, many versions of the
modern Bible have been made. Since the individual books of the Bible became scattered as they were
written, people set forth to preserve God s Word by compiling them into one ... Show more content on

He therefore separates the Apocrypha from the main part of the Bible, putting it in an appendix. In AD
1546, the Council of Trent convenes and settles once and for all that the Old Testament consists of all
forty six books ( Development of the Difficult Canon ). The New Testament was canonized over a
period of approximately four hundred years (Stotesberg). From AD 50 125, the books which in the
end constitute the New Testament were written. Simultaneously, other books, which did not end up
being included in the final canon, were produced. These books are the Epistle of Barnabas, the
Didache, I Clement, the seven letters of Ignatius of Antioch, etc. ( Development of the Difficult Canon
). As more and more books were written, Christians realized that it was imperative that they gather and
consolidate this material before it became lost. Sometime before AD 100, ten of Paul s letters were
gathered and combined into their own canon. The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) were
combined to form another canon soon after the canonization of Paul s letters. The Gospels and Paul s
letters became the main body of a new group of Scriptures that would soon become the New
Testament. Soon Acts, I Peter, I John, and Revelation were inserted into this body of Scripture.
Following this, the rest of the books were added to the New Testament (Barker).
In AD 140, Marcion, a heretical teacher who discarded the Old Testament as Scripture, took parts of

Emmett Till Essay
Emmett till was a fourteen year old African American boy who lived in Chicago. He was a fairly
normal kid who was down visiting his family when he was brutally murdered for just flirting with a
white girl. He was too young to understand what he was doing. He was just doing it as a joke for his

head. They protested, but there was nothing they could do.

On September 19, 1955 Emmett s murder had became an outrage. Because blacks and women were

a giant pillar in the way of everything you wish to achieve. While we recognize that a student s own
motivation, study habits, and will to learn, are cardinal in any schooling system, we must also
understand the issues with an institution that is fundamentally unsound from the ground up. In today s
world, students are shoved with the hands of docility, and amenability as they render themselves in a
system that has inadvertently failed them, by neglecting to celebrate their differences, and varying
learning patterns. Conformity in the education system has shown to damage the personalization and ...

How Did The Edo Period Impact The Tokugawa Period
How did the Tokugawa Period impact the people of Japan?
The Tokugawa period or otherwise known as the Edo period has been recognised as an extremely
significant aspect of Japanese history and left history changing effects on the country. In this essay,
five primary aspects of the Edo period, which has helped produce present day Japan and had greatly
impacted on the nation during this period will be addressed:
Politics, Social structure,The Samurai, Relations with the West and Culture.
Politics:
Tokugawa rulers during the 17th century greatly improved a multitude of separate political aspects
and as a result, positively impacted the nation and citizens. A primary example of this is Tokugawa s
establishment of the capital at Edo which in present day Japan is called the iconic Tokyo. Additionally,
he established a strong central government, along with his shoguns imposing an era of unity, stability,
and peace in Japan. The shoguns closely monitored and controlled the local daimyo possessed a
relative amount of power but remained to be tested for their loyalty and kept under control by the
shoguns who restricted their family and eventually became hostages. The daimyo was required to
maintain two residences in an attempt to prevent rebellion because of this wasting factor which
prohibited them as they had minuscule amounts of time to construct a powerful army due to constantly
needing to defend two residences. The Tokugawa period was an era of peace, stability, and

If an individual is witnessing violence this is going to skew their perspective about what is deemed
appropriate social behavior. In the short documentary, A Road from Crime, the narrator Allan Weaver
talks about socialization agents that caused him to participate in deviant behavior, commit crimes as
well as become violent. Weaver mentions that he witnessed violent behavior between his parents who
unknowingly taught him that it was a way of gaining power and control. If it acceptable in the home, it
must be acceptable outside of it. In addition, it is mentioned that educational staff and teachers saw
him as a troublesome kid , which affected his sense of self. When an individual is viewed by others as
bad and violent they begin to submit to that role and do what is expected of it thus committing crimes
and engaging in fights. Weaver also mentions peer groups, another socialization agent, as part of the
reason he turned to a life of crime as a young kid. He recalls the expectation to play a role in the gang
as part of being in a hard man culture . This means he was expected to act tough, violent and without
mercy. In the documentary, Weaver interviews former incarcerated people, which further solidifies the
role of socialization as it relates to deviance and crime on a micro scale. Ex inmates, Terry and Greg,
were interviewed and mentioned peer groups and family as key reasons for their spiral into drugs and
crime. However,

The Similarities Between Allport And Maslow Essay
Introduction Psychological trauma generally originates within a more physiological aspect of one s
life. Such is the case for actor Charlie Sheen; the title of actor suffices to say that he already had a
fairly interesting life, as he dealt with a massive blow to his own personal identity. The incident
effectively severed the progression that Charlie had made toward self actualization. Self actualization
being a term utilized by the psychological theorist Abraham Maslow, who suggested that a person has
a hierarchy of needs that must be satisfied before one can truly complete themselves as a person.
Furthermore, his incident also made him backtrack in the sense of Allport s development stages as he
lost touch with what was truly important to him in some regards. The similarities between Allport and
Maslow will serve to prove how certain events in one s life can stop a freight train in the metaphorical
sense.
Sheen s Life From a young age, Sheen had been encouraged to go into acting and took up his first
appearance in film at the age of nine as an extra in The Execution of Private Slovik. Consequently, his
interest in academia was minimal to say the least and resulted with him being expelled from high
school a few weeks prior to receiving his diploma. Afterwards, he went on to performing small time
movie roles until a major breakthrough with the movie Platoon. Multiple successes occurred from that
point forward, allowing him to engage in the more lavish lifestyle of a

The Rumors Strike On Pearl Harbor
A rumor is a kind of hypothesis, a speculation that helps people make sense of a chaotic reality or
gives them a small sense of control in a threatening world (qtd. in Goleman 487). December 1941,
after the attack on Pearl Harbor, a rumor went viral that Roosevelt and Churchill had plotted the
invasion as an alibi for U.S. entry into World War II. The rumor was driven by anxiety and fear due to
the immediate consequence of a national disaster. Robert Knapp, Daniel Goleman, and Nicholas
DiFonzo would suggest that this rumor spread primarily for an emotional reason. Knapp explained
that rumors strike as more believable when it has a good amount of details and when it s in print. A
good example for this would be October 1969, Fred LaBour heated up a rumor in the Michigan Daily
that the remarkable Paul McCartney was dead. He stated that McCarthy was in an automobile accident

Brahms’ “Wie Melodien” Op. 105 Essay
The lyrics for Brahms Wie Melodien Op. 105, No. 1 are from a poem written by Klaus Groth. It is a
poem that never clearly states its true meaning. Instead, it arouses an emotional feeling of one
dreaming about something from the past. And, these emotional feelings are expressed in Groth s poem
through a variety of images. The poem begins with using melodies as an image. In the first phrase,
Like melodies draw it to me softly through the mind, the word melodies seems to be symbolic of
thoughts or memories. These melodies are like a tune that you cannot get out of your head, a memory
that he is unable to forget. In his next phrase, Like spring flowers blossom it and floats like a scent
away, he uses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is not a bitter loss. Instead, the memory of that love continues to remain with him like a
sweet fragrance. Groth s reference to a moist eye also seems to symbolize how the memory of this lost
love continues to remain fresh (moist referring to something fresh in difference to stale) in his eyes.
And at the same time, moist eye represents when an emotion is so strong (either happy or sad) that it
brings tears to one s eyes. Brahms vocal and piano accompaniment do not fail to capture and express
this imagery of the poem. One example of the vocal line capturing one of the poem s images is in m.
41. Here, the vocal line is falling in register, painting an image of how a tear might fall. Another
example where the vocal line supports the imagery of the text is when the text is talking about how it
floats like a scent away and vanishes like a breath in m. 10 and m. 23. The same text appears twice
here and when it is repeated the second time it can be heard like an echo to the first statement, as it
fades away and becomes lower in register at the end of the phrase. This echo that fades away supports
the images in the text of floating away and vanishing. The piano accompaniment also assists in
expressing the poem s imagery. Most of this Lied is quarter notes in the voice with eighth notes in

Asian American Achievement
Asian Americans exceptional educational and occupational outcomes despite their racial minority
status in the United States have been central to the debate of race and achievement in both academic
and popular discourse. While some pundits argue that the Asian American achievement is a result of
the right culture that values education and hard work, scholars of race, immigration, and education
reject such claims. Hsin and Xie s quantitative investigation reveals that Asian Americans strong
emphasis on efforts, rather than outcomes, coupled with their immigrant status contribute to their

The Importance Of Religious Education In Contemporary...
Religion. Such a short and simple term, although it signifies more than the mind could comprehend.
Religion brings communities together but has the potential to tear them apart. Should we educate our
nation s young minds on religion, or is it a thing of the past? Should we, as future educators, try to
incorporate faith and morals into everyday lessons? These are all questions in which we must ask
ourselves in order to efficiently answer the question of Does Religious Education remain relevant in
Contemporary Society?
Religious Education, often abbreviated to RE , is a subject like no other. It is one where children and
young people engage in a search for meaning, value and purpose in life. 1 The United Kingdom is
such a culturally diverse nation and, for many citizens, Religious Education and practice are vital in
order for them to live their chosen lives of faith. So, why should their children be deprived of being
given the materials and in class encouragement that would be instrumental in order to develop their
own beliefs, morals and Religious values?
CFE RME: Principles and Practice and CFE RME: Experiences and Outcomes are two critical
documents to support and enhance our understanding of the importance of Religious Education, not
only in the Curriculum, but in the wider community and in every day life. As previously mentioned,
our nation is so rich in cultural variety and many agree that it is vital for learners to learn to appreciate
and celebrate diversity

Analysis of Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days
Thesis: Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days is a quintessentially postmodern novel because of its
cynical tone, its confluence of imagery, and its treatment of social and existential alienation.
I. When the protagonist first arrives in West Virginia, his sense of alienation and isolation become
poignant: setting the stage for what is becoming a postmodern novel. His experience checking into the
hotel as a journalist offers telling evidence of the theme of alienation: The desk man at the hotel gave
him a press packet when he registered, checking his name off a list, but J. hasn t bothered to look at it
so he doesn t know what time dinner is, (p. 693). The imagery that Whitehead uses solidifies the core
theme of social alienation. Here, the protagonist s name is disembodied. His name is on the list,
legitimizing his status in the society. On the list, he belongs to a group a professional organization. He
is accountable to his profession, and yet, the protagonist does not feel a genuine sense of belonging.
This trend continues throughout John Henry Days, and is one of the things that characterizes the novel
as being postmodern. John Henry Days addresses a protagonist who seems completely emotionally
detached from his surroundings; and yet his journalistic attitude makes it so that he has keen
intellectual insight into what is going on regarding the symbolic meanings of the John Henry
symbolism.
Journalism also happens to be a postmodern profession in the eyes of the

Toorak, according to Realestate.com, is by far the most expensive property. Buying a house there will
cost $3 240 000. This is more than double the cost of a house in South Melbourne which is $1 175

South Melbourne is aiming to cater for a more working class group of people but still quite wealthy

Touchstone Picture s 1999 film Ten Things I Hate About You is an adaptation of the eminent
playwright William Shakespeare s 16th century comedy The Taming of the Shrew. The plots follow a
key idea where, Bianca will be allowed to become romantically entangled when Katerina does,
through this key concept the cast encounters many issues and adventures. The productions share
similar plots, this is achieved through the construction of the characters, settings and themes. Through
the construction of the characters the plots of both the play and the film are developed. This is

One such similarity that can be seen is her name, as Bianca s name in the film was transferred straight
from the play when the adaptation was created. Other similarities include her suitors and her
personality underneath her innocence. In both the play and the film Bianca is portrayed as a naive
prize that must be won, however what makes her such a complex character is not her innocence but
what lies underneath. Throughout the whole film Bianca constantly surprises everyone with deep
insights such as, when discussing the difference between liking and loving Bianca: You know, there s
a difference between like and love. I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack. Chastity: But I
love my Skechers. Bianca: That s because you don t have a Prada backpack. Even simply ideas like
this show the hidden depth of the character. However, when it comes to Bianca s sister Kat she, like

Essay on The Principle of Separate Corporate Personality
The Principle of Separate Corporate Personality
The principle of separate corporate personality has been firmly established in the common law since
the decision in the case of Salomon v Salomon Co Ltd[1], whereby a corporation has a separate legal
personality, rights and obligations totally distinct from those of its shareholders. Legislation and courts
nevertheless sometimes pierce the corporate veil so as to hold the shareholders personally liable for
the liabilities of the corporation. Courts may also lift the corporate veil , in the conflict of laws in order
to determine who actually controls the corporation, and thus to ascertain the corporation s true
contacts, and closest and most real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The veil of incorporation can be described as being the separation between a company and its
members. Due to the separate legal status of a company from its members this is usually very strictly
maintained. However, there are certain circumstances when the courts will deny the people who run
the company the advantage of hiding behind the corporate veil. In these instances the veil of
incorporation is said to be pierced or lifted , i.e. the barrier between a company and its members is
removed so there is no legal separation between them. There instances are however, difficult to predict
as the reasons depend on the judges interpretation of fairness or policy or of how a particular statute
should be interpreted.
In the leading case of Salomon v Salomon Co Ltd, Salomon incorporated his boot and shoe repair
business, transferring it to a company. He took all the shares of the company except six, which were
held by his wife, daughter and four sons. Part of the payment for the transfer of the business was made
in the form of debentures (a secured loan) issued by the company to Salomon. Salomon transferred the
debentures to Broderip in exchange for a loan. Salomon defaulted on payment of interest on the loan
and Broderip sought to enforce the security against the company. Unsecured creditors tried to put

Human Blood As A Blood Substitute
By the end of the 20th century many firms were trying to create a Blood Substitute and had pumped in
huge amount of money for its research. Biopure had spent over $200 Million with the primary goal of
developing a Human Blood Substitute. It s entry into the animal market was by chance and their
continued efforts in the field was an opportunistic pursuit. However, its animal product called
Oxyglobin had received the final FDA approval while Hemopure was about to enter phase III clinical
trials.
The Oxyglobin and Hemopure substitutes developed by Biopure have an advantage over blood
transfusions in many areas including blood type matching, universality in terms of donating, such as
O+ blood recipients. The blood substitutes also had a much longer storage life of 2 years as opposed to
the 6 week storage life of transfused blood. Furthermore, with the rise of diseases such as AIDS and
increasing public concern about the same, blood substitutes also helped mitigate that risk. Baxter
International and Northfield Laboratories products sourced their blood substitutes from human blood
whereas, Biopure sourced it from animal blood, cattle in particular. This put them in a better position
than their competitors. Also Biopure s Hemopure and Oxyglobin did not require refrigeration unlike
its competitor s products.
As technological improvements and industrialization increased, the use of automobiles increased
which also led to auto and industrial accidents. The blood substitutes for

Broken Crown Myth
What to do with a broken crown tooth?
The importance of the teeth is nothing new to be described as these plays an inevitable role in our life.
All of us understand the need and the advantage of having healthy teeth throughout our life. The
dentures and the implants are the excellent examples to teach us the usefulness of the original teeth.
There are several complications that are related with the oral and dental health that tend us to seek the
services from a dentist. The broken crown is one of these complications that require intervention from
the dentists. The crowns are usually found to be intact for lifetime but in some cases, these may
become broken or get chipped due to different reasons. In these conditions, we need to see the dentist

symptoms; for example, the broken crown in hard traumatic injury may develop sharp pain while the

This is the biggest mistake that anyone can make after having the broken crown. The dental crowns
are typical implants sort of object that cannot be fitted without expert dental intervention. The ideas
about rubbing some material on the broken crown or filling it with some material may not only
deteriorate the situation but also create further complications.
Should I replace?
It is strongly advised to replace the dental crown to prevent the chances of further damage to the tooth.
The chipped or the cracked tooth may easily get damaged in case of chewing something or due to the
effect of the beverages or the other hard things. It is better to replace the same as early as possible.

Astor Pazzolla Influence On Nuevo Tango
Astor Piazzolla is from Argentina and he is a composer. He created the tango genre called nuevo tango
which incorporates jazz and tango which is the new tango style. This style requires more instruments
than the traditional tango. Ever since tango lost its popularity around 1950s and 1960s, Piazzolla was
considered to be the saviour of tango due to the creation of nuevo tango. The traditional tango was
designed as dancing music, and not merely for listening. Furthermore, traditional tango was mainly
played by the poor and the lower middle class. As such, in 1950s, tango started losing its creativity
and popularity. Since then, tango was studied but no longer played to fulfill its original purpose. In
fact, new tango music was not allowed to be melodic due to its usage of protestant and the expression
of power.
Nonetheless, Piazzolla developed the new tango in 1955 and it gained popularity through upper
middle class and tourists. The tango that Piazzolla developed was mainly played for listening due to
its rhythm. He transformed tango music from a functional dance style to a symbolic social statement
(Live Class session 3). This statement depicted the poor and the oppressed in Argentina as well as

What Makes a Good Website
What makes a good website?
Introduction
In my opinion what makes a good web page? I have been on the net for the last, can t really believe it,
coming to ten years now. From the conception to now, I have been a regular surfer on the web, visiting
thousands of pages a month, mostly in search of some thing or another. Most searches have lead to
even more searches but some times I come up tops. Having been used to the all text sites of the

Not using clashing colours is important, so, different shades of one colour used makes for a pleasant
view, just using different text colours or inlays to spice it up a bit.
Usability:
After the first three seconds is up, and the site still has my attention, usability of the site is the one that
will make me stick around.
Usability comes in many forms, and has many ingredients to it. For a start, the layout is the most
important. You can have good graphics but bad layout, and your site is ruined. Not thinking further
than your own computer screen is a big mistake. If a page does not fit my screen when I open it up it
already lost some points, so standardised width is a bonus that all good sites have. Even if you don t
fill up the screen on bigger resolutions, having it usable on all is n good point (like nokia.com or
cnn.com). Where you place everything is going to make it a good site or not.
The simple points of usability is certainly obvious for someone who has spent some time on bad sites,
not that I think I m pro at this, but off course they are catering for me as well when they are building
the sites. Basic layout is very important, and by that, I mean, the basics in layout. Having things in
places where you think people are going to look is a good start. If you have to look for a link to the
main page from the splash page, then forget about getting much traffic. If the main page does

Agriculture In China Since The Late 19th Century
Since the agricultural revolution, ninety nine percent of humanity had worked the fields of agriculture
in order to survive. Almost nobody had been able to move away from the fields to cities, and people in
the cities had almost never wanted to stop being a craftsman to begin a new life as a farmer. Although
the latter point remains true to this day, the former has been dramatically altered. With innovations in
agriculture as simple as hardened iron plows and better irrigation, slightly more people could make

century, many more people had to leave farming as farm production increased to join in the steam
powered industry in the cites. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This created a great migration from farms to cities where farmers learned a low skill, low wage trade
in a highly productive factory, out producing high skilled artisans of the same vein. Supply of goods
skyrocketed high above the pre industrial era, driving prices way down. With such high production in
so many niches of the market, people could actually purchase nonessentials despite earning less
money from working in a factory; money was actually worth more. Because living in a city had
become cheaper, more farmers were attracted to come to work in a city further increasing this
migration. This migration is still happening today in China. Chinese are moving from agricultural to
urban areas for the same reasons americans and europeans have been doing since the 17th century.
What these factories to create, however, is a large increase in income and wealth inequality; however,
this barely matters because relatively everyone is better off. The rich did not steal their money from
anyone, and the poor are not having their money taken away. The resource pie has been getting bigger;
although some peoples pieces have been getting bigger faster, it does not change the fact that everyone

Body Modification In Imperial China
Body modification is art because it is showing your personality on the outside. How you re feeling in
the inside you re showing it on your skin. Teens and young adults want tattoos and piercing. It is
considered attractive to some people, most people love body modification. Some people disagree that
body modification is art. Many people today love to pierce their body or get tattoos. Most people get a
tattoo if it has a deep meaning to them. In some work places you need to cover up tattoos and hide you
re piercing because they look unprofessional to some businesses. They need to realize some people
can t cover up everything. If you can t cover up then you don t get the job. Businesses need to realize
that body modification is art and should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people have very deep meaning behind them. My sister got a tattoo flower for my grandmother,
and she got her favorite flower which was a Gerber daisy. She always used to say miss me when we d
go out somewhere so she has miss me right under the flower. This tattoo has a lot of meaning to her.
You would consider thing meaningful and beautiful? Induvial are showing their feelings as well. Some
People are just trying to show their inner self. A guy on the news did everything to his face to look like
a cat. He has so paid so much money on body modification to look like a cat. This man felt inside he
was a cat and showed his feelings on the outside. All the tattoos and everything he did was art because
it was beautiful to see him be what he really wanted to be.
Body modification has different opinions for different people. Religious reasons are a big thing but
you should be allowed to make your own decisions. Thousands of people have tattoos and piercings
and not all can remove them so we all need to take a better look on everything. Body modification is
art there is no doubt about it. It is expressing yourself how you want to and you should be allowed to
do it if you want to. Many people have different opinions on this subject and you re allowed to think

Organ And Organ Of Organ Transplantation
Recognized as one of the most gripping medical advances of the century, organ transplantation
provides a way of giving the gift of life to patients with terminal failure of vital organs. Organ
transplantation requires the participation of both fellow human beings and of society by donating
organs from deceased or living individuals. The ever increasing rate of organ failure and the
inadequate supply of organs have created a significant gap between organ supply and organ demand.
This gap has resulted in extremely lengthy waiting times to receive an organ as well as an increased
number of deaths among those waiting for an organ. These events have raised many ethical, moral and
societal issues regarding supply, the methods of organ allocation and the use of living donors as
volunteers including minors. It has also led to the practice of organ sale by entrepreneurs for financial
gains in some parts the world through exploitation of the poor, for the benefit of the wealthy. This
paper presents valuable information regarding organ transplantation while supporting the medical
definition of the term brain death What is brain death? Physicians and other health care professional
have often accepted that a person is deceased when his or her brain is dead. Although the widespread
use of mechanical ventilators and other advanced critical care services have transformed the course of
terminal neurologic disorders. Through the advancements in medicine and technology, vital signs

The Work Of A Mercenary
The job of a mercenary, fighting a war or performing some sort of military duty, for pay, without
nationalist allegiance, has been a job ...since the dawn of warfare, from Xenophon s ten thousand
Greeks hired to fight in Persia to the Swiss Guards who protect the Vatican today (Blood and
Treasure). Simply put, Mercenaries are nothing new. However only in the last 60 or so years has a
new, modern form of mercenary work come into practice. Modern mercenaries today often function in
the form of a Private Military Corporation or PMC. These are corporations that train and deploy often
elite fighting forces to fulfill contracts paid for by various clients, most of the time governments.
These corporations are rather controversial for a number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After successfully using Private Military Companies in Vietnam, the United States continued their use,
doling out contracts to corporations during the later Cold War Era. During this time many United State
PMCs were tied to tasks too dirty for the U.S. government. (Avant) The use of private military
companies has continued ever since and has only grown in scale. Other than the size of the Industry,
not much has changed in PMCs. They still receive funding mainly from their clients, who are often
national governments, and from their investors if they are publicly held corporations. In terms of the
size of the market, the PMC market was expected to grow in net revenue from $55.6 billion to $202
billion between the years of 1990 and 2010. These predictions had merit especially in the 90s when
the stock value of public PMCs grew two times faster than the Dow Jones Industrial Average (Avant).
Since their inception private military companies have claimed to provide services of elite and precise
military force for nations and organizations; these organizations claim that they are better suited for
the job than a military and they do not shy away from the fact that they are motivated entirely by
money. Erik Prince comes to the defence of PMCs, as he is the founder and CEO of perhaps the best
known PMC in the world, Blackwater. He says on the matter of

Bias In The Media Bias
There are many different hidden truths in the media that people do not know about due to the fact that
the media emphasizes on just one particular point of view. Throughout the years, people have been
biased in the media and the reason as to why this happens is that people choose to lean on one side
such as republican, democrat, libertarian, or conservative. To be biased means to only be on one side
of an argument or situation and only favor more of what one person has to say. There are a variety of
different news channels in which they all tend to lean more on one side, there is not a single news
channel that is on the same side as another. There are many current events that have multiple
contentious between other news channels. The viewers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether it is news channels on the television or whether it is Twitter and Facebook news, the public
will always have a way to find out current reports. Since society has become so dependent on
technology, a greater amount of individuals get their actual news online and especially through social
media. As many of the public know, you cannot trust what people online are saying. Since individuals
are so accustomed to getting the news online, many of them tend to believe what they just happen to
scroll across on Twitter and Facebook or any other sort of social media. Finding actual facts and truths
on the news have become so difficult now, due to all of the millions of different sites and places where
we can get our news from. The news online tend to be biased and untrue due to how openly and freely
individuals can create their own site and reports on current events such as a real news channels would.
Social media has just made it more complicated to find the actual accuracy of current events but with
enough research, dedication, and using the SMELL test, finding the right information would not be as

  • 2. Anti-Semitism In France Many examinations of World War II begin with what if as an attempt at better understanding the consequences of the events. However, if the primary source materials that are available remain unexamined, whether in part or as a whole, then the consequences of the event remain slightly out of reach. Such is the case of the German occupation of France during World War II. France fell and surrendered to German forces in June of 1940. The French and German armistice agreed to separate the nation into two zones, the northern Occupied Zone and the southern Unoccupied Zone, which was also known as the Free Zone. France s fledgling Vichy government controlled the south and the German government controlled the north along the Demarcation Line. During the war, France lost roughly 567,600 lives, more than half of which were civilians. However, it was not until the mid 1990s when the French President, Jacques Chirac, confessed to the French responsibility of those lives lost, that French culpability was truly studied by scholars. Historians have argued both before and after the 1990s that the French were either collaborating with the Nazis or accommodating them as a means of preserving their identity. However, prior to the confession France had kept many documents unavailable to scholars and the general public, making a thorough examination of life in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Effects Of Poverty In Nigeria Poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon. Poverty is a denial of choices and opportunities, a violation of human dignity. It means lack of basic capacity to participate effectively in society. It means not having enough to feed and clothe a family, not having a school or clinic to go to; not having the land on which to grow one s food or a job to earn one s living, not having access to credit. It means insecurity, powerlessness and exclusion of individuals, households and communities. It means susceptibility to violence, and it often implies living on marginal or fragile environments, without access to clean water or sanitation. It has risen in Nigeria with almost 100 million people living on less than $1 a day, despite economic growth, statistics have shown. The ethical theory associated with this is the egoism theory which I picked as in place of the Nigerian leaders who only look out for their families. Comparing this economy and government to that of Dubai is overwhelming as everyone knows Dubai for its vast expense of riches and brilliant government. In Nigeria, widespread and severe poverty is a reality. It is a reality that depicts a lack of food, clothes, education and other basic amenities. Severely poor people lack the most basic necessities of life to a degree that it can be wondered how they manage to survive. • 4. Lao Tzu Vs. Machiavelli Government (Lao tzu V. Machiavelli) What is government? Government is the governing body of nation, state, or community. Government determines the way any group of people are ran. There a several different types of government used all around the world. In the United States for example, uses a type of government that has three different branches of power. The Legislative Branch is the law making branch. The Judicial branch is the courts and the low enforcement. Lastly, the Executive branch is the presidential branch. Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they work together to make the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not ignored or disallowed. (Osborne) Usually, governments break up the responsibilities into two or more groups. Two very influential writers wrote about their views on government; Lao tzu and Machiavelli. These writers were in very different times which makes it very interesting to compare their views. Lao tzu and Machiavelli had very different views on the ultimate purpose of government, the obligations of government leaders, and the main work of the state. To begin, Lao tzu s and Machiavelli s views on the ultimate purpose of government are very different. First of all, Lao tzu s idea of the purpose of government is more as a suggestion or a guide. Lao tzu believes that government should not be a part of people s personal lives in any way shape or form. He believes in a very simple type of government. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Works Of William Shakespeare And Sir Philip Sidney Edmund Spenser was a notorious English poet known for writing the long allegorical poem The Faerie Queen. Born into a family of very little wealth he was enrolled into the Merchant Taylors grammar school. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1573. The time he spent at Cambridge was undoubtly very crucial for the acquisition of his wide knowledge not only of the Latin and some of the Greek classics but also of the Italian, French, and English Literature of his own and earlier times. Without the Roman epic poet Virgil s Aeneid, the 15th century Italian Ludovico Ariosto s Orlando furioso, and, later, Torquato Tasso s Gerusalemme liberata (1581), Spenser could not have written his heroic, or epic, poem The Faerie Queene. The corpus of Spenser can be discussed in the context of the works of William Shakespeare and Sir Philip Sidney. The three share an influence in the same popular Renaissance literary genre, Pastoral, which can be depicted as an idealized vision of a simpler, rural life and a longing for a lost world of innocence. Much happened in the time of the Renaissance, including Reformation and an epidemic so it made sense to want to write about less complex ways of living as a way to escape reality. In The Faerie Queen, Spenser writes with the intent to show young men what better virtues to cultivate in their lives. He does an excellent job doing this by his use of symbolism and descriptive imagery. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using The Methods Of Categorization And Compartmentalization Check One Using the methods of categorization and compartmentalization in order to more easily comprehend difficult subjects is natural, yet when the objects subjected to forced categorical placement are human beings, how can this method still be justified? When taking a standardized test, filling out legal paperwork, or taking a census, we are presented with a question that, in some cases, might be more difficult than all of the following questions on an exam. Staring up from the page are the words Ethnicity: (Choose One) followed by a series of boxes next to words such as White , Black , Asian , etc. When did the colors White and Black , a singular phenotypic characteristic, come to define an entire race? This perception of color stems from colonial times when white Euro colonizers imposed their self righteous attitudes of white supremacy on their newly acquired lands. These ideals involved in the creation of the binaries of black and white, which originate in the slave and master relationship established in the exploitation of African (black) slaves by European colonizers and plantation owners (white). • 7. Common Sense by Thomas Paine Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine and published in 1776. Paine wrote it as a plea for the American people to break away from Britain and to declare independence from the king. He was asking his audience to take a step back and see that just because something is tradition, does not mean it is necessarily right. Paine wanted to show his readers that government and society is not the same thing, which is how most people viewed it. Society was something that people should want to have, while a government is something that people had to have in order to keep themselves in check. That by paying the various taxes, the people were inadvertently paying to live in such bad conditions. America should break away from and form a democratic party, one that allowed the people to decide what rules they should have. Britain was too far away to be able to rule the colonies correctly. That in being so far away it would take forever for Parliament to respond to any complaints that America might have. Britain was not a favorite with other countries and therefore the colonies were at a greater risk of war because of it. He spoke to his readers in a way so that even the simplest of people would understand how desperately America needed to establish its independence. Some people thought that the dispute between America and Britain should be resolved, Paine wanted to show the people that even if the two came to a satisfactory agreement, that it would not last. Miller cites research that has concluded the high expectation for extended periods of time to be spent at the desk working can partly explain the gap because they have disproportionate responsibility (1) when it comes to taking care of children. This is inopportune for women because they want to be rewarded for their hard work, and that goal should not be sacrificed by the choice to have a child. When a man shakes hands with a woman, the handshake is less firm. When greeting each other, it is normal for women to kiss each other three times, while alternating cheeks. This form of greeting is influenced by social histories. The Karen Pa Dong Hill tribe is probably most recognized by its cultural tradition of bodily adornment. Pa Dong means someone who wears brass rings. It is thought that the tribe s custom of elongating necks through the wearing of brass rings stems from myths. The most popular myth states that the headman of the tribe had a dream in which a tiger was about to attack and kill one of the most popular children in the village. Since tigers always kill their victims by first breaking their necks, the headman decreed that all children must wear heavy brass rings around their necks to protect them. Since the tiger attack never came to pass, it was thought that the wearing of brass rings worked and protected them. Wearing brass neck rings is considered to be a beautiful form of bodily adornment that stems from their cultural group histories. Islamic weddings are immersed in cultural traditions and rituals. The New Testament was canonized over a period of approximately four hundred years (Stotesberg). From AD 50 125, the books which in the end constitute the New Testament were written. Simultaneously, other books, which did not end up being included in the final canon, were produced. These books are the Epistle of Barnabas, the Didache, I Clement, the seven letters of Ignatius of Antioch, etc. ( Development of the Difficult Canon ). As more and more books were written, Christians realized that it was imperative that they gather and consolidate this material before it became lost. Sometime before AD 100, ten of Paul s letters were gathered and combined into their own canon. The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) were combined to form another canon soon after the canonization of Paul s letters. The incident effectively severed the progression that Charlie had made toward self actualization. Self actualization being a term utilized by the psychological theorist Abraham Maslow, who suggested that a person has a hierarchy of needs that must be satisfied before one can truly complete themselves as a person. The Rumors Strike On Pearl Harbor A rumor is a kind of hypothesis, a speculation that helps people make sense of a chaotic reality or gives them a small sense of control in a threatening world (qtd. in Goleman 487). December 1941, after the attack on Pearl Harbor, a rumor went viral that Roosevelt and Churchill had plotted the invasion as an alibi for U.S. entry into World War II. The rumor was driven by anxiety and fear due to the immediate consequence of a national disaster. And at the same time, moist eye represents when an emotion is so strong (either happy or sad) that it brings tears to one s eyes. Brahms vocal and piano accompaniment do not fail to capture and express this imagery of the poem. One example of the vocal line capturing one of the poem s images is in m. 41. Here, the vocal line is falling in register, painting an image of how a tear might fall. Another example where the vocal line supports the imagery of the text is when the text is talking about how it floats like a scent away and vanishes like a breath in m. 10 and m. 23. The same text appears twice here and when it is repeated the second time it can be heard like an echo to the first statement, as it fades away and becomes lower in register at the end of the phrase. This echo that fades away supports the images in the text of floating away and vanishing. The piano accompaniment also assists in expressing the poem s imagery. Religion brings communities together but has the potential to tear them apart. Should we educate our nation s young minds on religion, or is it a thing of the past? Should we, as future educators, try to incorporate faith and morals into everyday lessons? These are all questions in which we must ask ourselves in order to efficiently answer the question of Does Religious Education remain relevant in Contemporary Society? Religious Education, often abbreviated to RE , is a subject like no other. It is one where children and young people engage in a search for meaning, value and purpose in life. 1 The United Kingdom is such a culturally diverse nation and, for many citizens, Religious Education and practice are vital in order for them to live their chosen lives of faith. So, why should their children be deprived of being given the materials and in class encouragement that would be instrumental in order to develop their own beliefs, morals and Religious values? Analysis of Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days Thesis: Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days is a quintessentially postmodern novel because of its cynical tone, its confluence of imagery, and its treatment of social and existential alienation. I. When the protagonist first arrives in West Virginia, his sense of alienation and isolation become poignant: setting the stage for what is becoming a postmodern novel. His experience checking into the hotel as a journalist offers telling evidence of the theme of alienation: The desk man at the hotel gave him a press packet when he registered, checking his name off a list, but J. hasn t bothered to look at it so he doesn t know what time dinner is, (p. 693). The imagery that Whitehead uses solidifies the core theme of social alienation. Here, the protagonist s name is disembodied. His name is on the list, legitimizing his status in the society. On the list, he belongs to a group a professional organization. He is accountable to his profession, and yet, the protagonist does not feel a genuine sense of belonging. This trend continues throughout John Henry Days, and is one of the things that characterizes the novel as being postmodern. John Henry Days addresses a protagonist who seems completely emotionally detached from his surroundings; and yet his journalistic attitude makes it so that he has keen intellectual insight into what is going on regarding the symbolic meanings of the John Henry symbolism. Legislation and courts nevertheless sometimes pierce the corporate veil so as to hold the shareholders personally liable for the liabilities of the corporation. Due to the separate legal status of a company from its members this is usually very strictly maintained. In these instances the veil of incorporation is said to be pierced or lifted , i.e. the barrier between a company and its members is removed so there is no legal separation between them.
