Persuasive Essay Examples
When faced with hardships in life, a person is often given two choices, to either give up or
persevere. Many people who are faced with these choices choose to give up, these people never
got to live life to their full potential. If they would have persevered then they would have
eventually overcame their challenge and been able to move on from it. If a person does not
persevere they will never be able to move on and will always be ok with where they are at and
never grow. This is why a person should persevere, but what exactly is a person who perseveres?
In the dictionary, perseverance is defined as a, steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a
state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. ... Show more content on

By persevering they will continue to become better instead of staying where they are at, scared to
continue the new skill or play. In nonfiction literature, authors talk about the theme perseverance.
In the article, Warriors Don t Cry, all of the kids are demonstrating perseverance everyday they
go to school. They know that many people are against them and they will have to go through both
emotional and physical hurt but they push through and go anyways so eventually things will get
better. In the article, I am Malala, she shows perseverance by continuing to go to school even
though the threats she has received. She is afraid but this does not stop her, she still speaks out
and goes to school so eventually she can make a change. In the book, The Year we Disappeared,
everyone in their family is showing perseverance. Their dad gets shot, and this affects everyone s
life. They are now afraid everyday and under protection, not able to live a normal life. But this
did not stop them to live a happy life, they moved somewhere where they could go to school and
work feeling safe. Authors use nonfiction literature to persuade their reader to persevere when they
are faced with challenges in life, rather than give up. The article, Warriors Don t Cry, teaches a

What Did William Wilberforce Accomplish In Life
What did William Wilberforce accomplish in life? Why do we remember William Wilberforce?
Why was the Bible so important to him? William Wilberforce was a philanthropist, politician,
legislator, and abolitionist of slavery who grew up in Hull, a large seaport city on the northeast
coast of Great Britain, and as a child he went to the traditional Anglican church. By the age of 16,
he went to Cambridge University, where he met his good friend William Pitt the Younger who
became a loyal supporter. Later in his life, he started to have doubts about his faith and culturally
accepted the waters of aloofness and skepticism toward anyone who took Christian faith seriously.
During his college years, Wilberforce and Pitt would go to Parliament to watch debates on many
subjects, mostly about the fate of the American colonies. Wilberforce quickly became extremely

the years. His battle was not over. That wasn t the end he also set out to persuade other major
powers of the world France, Spain, Russia, especially to adopt abolition. He knew that the
United States were also determined to the root of evil. William s greatest accomplishment was
the abolishment of the slave trade and that is why we remember him today, and he kept the bible
close to him because he was faithful. One of the most interesting things was William s ability to
work with others who disagreed him, for example Charles James Fox, an opponent to William in
political battles, knew that was saved by grace. In addition, he also gave his talents, time, energy

Romani The Second Largest Part Of The European Union Essay
Romania being the seventh largest part of the European union has come along way over the
years to develop a strong foundation to rebuild its name and their people. Romania is located on
the southeastern side of Europe bordering the black sea between Bulgaria and Ukraine. With their
outstanding geography, Romania is full of land, mountains, hills and valleys that attract many
tourists from all around the world. The word may tend to travel about relaxing waters that act as
healing remedies for many illnesses that come past the roman grounds. The temperate climate can

There are very few natural resources that help to structure and support the imports and exports set
up. Some of those natural resources are petroleum, timber, natural gas, coal, iron ore, salt, and
arable land. Most of these resources are also available in the surrounding counties. Exports have
been the main driver of the recent improvement in the current account balance. The growth of
exports translated into strong gains in export market shares. In the past two decades Romania s

The Events Of The Crusades
The crusades had many factors leading up to these holy wars. Many of them included religious
factors since the main reason behind the crusades was religion. The crusades has more than just a
religious background, there are many social and political reasons behind the crusades too.
The first of the crusades happened between the years of 1096 1099 and began when Pope Urban the
II sent out a message informing his people to go to war against the Muslims in the Holy Land, or
Jerusalem. Armies of Christians from Western Europe then took over Jerusalem in 1099 and the
Muslims of the region vowed to start another holy war against the Christians to regain control of
their land. This led to the second crusade from 1147 1149 (1). The Muslim people began to regain
the land they had lost and overthrew Edessa, the ruler assigned to govern the land while the rest of
the crusaders went home. The Muslims then combined their forces with the Turks and together they
defeated the Crusaders thus ending the second crusade (1).
The third crusade was the result of the fall of Jerusalem. It occurred between the years 1189
1192 due to the fact that Jerusalem had fallen under the control of Saladin, sultan of Egypt (1).
Three armies from Europe led by Richard of England, Phillip the II of France, and Frederick
Barbarossa were going to make an attempt to stop Saladin but Frederick died and the other two
kings did not get along so the third crusade failed (1). However, the fourth crusade was major

An Analysis Of The Film Chicago And The Scarlet Letter
In the film Chicago and the novel, The Scarlet Letter both Roxie Hart and Hester Prynne are the
protagonist, and are sent to jail for being guilty of committing adultery, and cheating on their
husbands. During the pre war Ragtime Era, many young Americans had been chastised by their
elders for several violations against decency, including using slang, dancing low class dances, and
enjoying syncopated music with African American influences. Progressive women were
especially criticized, for abandoning the corset, wearing shorter skirts that exposed their ankles,
cutting their hair short, and leaving the separate sphere of their domestic domain to be socially
and politically active in the public arena. As in the later transition from the 1950s to 1960s, this
repression led to a backlash. During the Roaring Twenties young Americans responded to this
criticism by expanding on all of these violations, with more outrageous slang, jazzier music and
dance, shorter and flimsier dresses and shorter hair. And the efforts of the Suffragettes paid off
when the Nineteenth Amendment, granting women the right to vote, was ratified in 1920. The
separate spheres of the 19th century had been broken and the Flapper redefined modern
womanhood. ( Social Dance.Sandford, edu) The film Chicago, it introduces Roxie Hart as a wanna
be famous jazz dancer with the dream of living her life on the Vaudeville stage. Meanwhile, she

Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray...
Of all the qualities in a hero, the ones that make helping a heroic act are honesty, wisdom,
dedication and conviction, which John from Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher and Clarisse from
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury portray. John and Clarisse are both honest about everything no
matter what anyone says or thinks. They also take the wisdom they gain from their experiences,
and use it to create a positive impact on those that they are helping. The level of dedication that
John shows is one side of a pole while Clarisse s level of dedication is on the other. Clarisse puts
more conviction into changing perspective, since she does this just by staying true to her opinion.

else, (Bradbury, 13). Clarisse knows that the subject is making him uncomfortable and is wise
enough to apologize and move the subject to something he is comfortable with and happy
about. John and Clarisse both take what they learn from their influencing experiences and apply
this wisdom into their actions in the process of helping, whether it is protecting or changing
perspective of Heidi and Montag. Although Clarisse and John are both honest and wise, they go
about helping with extremely different levels of dedication, with John putting complete
dedication into saving Heidi from her abusive dad. Because of the same experience of running
over a baby, he puts all his dedication into protecting every form of life that he sees from danger
and death to make up his sin (Crutcher, 52). So, when trouble comes along for Heidi and she is
placed in his house, he puts all his focus on keeping her father away. When Heidi s dad keeps
calling his house even after Heidi s mom takes her children to see him by violating rules, John
immediately drops what he is doing and goes out to record Heidi s dad breaking the no contact
rule as well as give him a warning that he will definitely give the evidence to the police if he does
not stop shadowing his family (Crutcher, 154 155). John takes the time to do what

abolitionist stance of prisons Essay
Catherine GiguГЁre 5246389 Term Paper #3 Work submitted to Professor Justin PichГ© In the
course Abolitionism and the Criminal Justice System (CRM 4302) Department de Criminology
University of Ottawa December 11th 2012 Many individuals believe that the criminal system and
its institutions are flawed. These critiques have been brought on by the ineffectiveness of prisons to
reform individuals, the ineptness of the system to reduce crime rates, the lack of focus on victims
of crimes, as well as the racist, classist and sexist practices existing in these institutions. Therefore,
we can ask ourselves if the elimination of the current penal system and the implementation of
alternatives would better allow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
7) In criminological theories, we saw how police activity is largely geared towards minor visible
crimes committed by individuals from the lower stratums of society as oppose to white collar
crimes committed by those of higher stratums (DubГ©, CRM 3701, 2011). Abolitionists argue
that by severely punishing some of the poor in order to deter society from committing crimes; we
are only further contributing to the inequalities in today s society. A second key argument
advanced for the abolition of prisons is the failure to rehabilitate with imprisonment. Rehabilitation
is supposed to permit the individual to be restored to a law abiding citizen, contributing to society.
However, abolitionists argue that prisons do not permit this. First, schooling and work within
prisons is supposed to allow individuals to become productive citizens in society. However, In
many prisons, especially the old ones, the work which is offered is to a large extent meaningless
(placing advertisement material in envelopes, folding tobacco packets), or simply non existent .
(Mathiesen, 2008, p. 34). This work experience is therefore without benefit to the prisoner upon his
release.

Electronic Patient Care Records (EPCR)
Not so in healthcare or public safety. Especially during emergencies, if a product fails to work as
intended or to work at all it can mean lost productivity, mountainous legal fees, brain death, or loss
of life, limb and property.
Healthcare IT offers outsized benefits to Emergency Response teams, which depend on speed,
ease of training and use, data accuracy, and interoperability. But the stakes of failure or disruption
are so high that one can say there are few areas of development with a more desperate need for
criticism.
And criticism there has been! Few complaints garner broader consensus among Fire and EMS
practitioners than that leading manufacturers of electronic patient care records ( ePCR ) have
abysmally neglected UX and design considerations. Agencies and their patients pay the price
through decreased productivity and even lost records. As Tom Bouthillet, a fire captain, paramedic,

Essay On Intimate Enemies
Intimate Enemies, (L Ennemi intime), a French war film based on the Algerian war, presents a
convincing portrayal of the psychological trauma of French soldiers fighting against Algerian
insurgents. This movie reminded me of the barbarity of war and its detrimental effects on the
people involved.
The movie takes place in the remote and mountainous regions of Algeria in 1959 where the French
army is fighting with the Fellagha (Algerian insurgents). The soldiers there are joined by Lieutenant
Terrien who is a new, naГЇve and idealistic officer. Terrien quickly faces events that challenge his
moral beliefs such as village massacres, prisoner tortures and shooting of civilians. Initially he
resists the savagery of the other soldiers and officers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Terrien states that if an order is morally unacceptable, then you should refuse it sir. The captain
counters that the FLN uses vile methods too, similar to how people were treated in Vietnam. He
contends that the warfare in Vietnam and Algeria was less military but more psychological.
Interestingly, Terrien responds by questioning the nature of Algeria with regards to France. If
Algeria is France, then why are Algerians not treated equally as French citizens? The captain
replies, You ll come around, just like we all did. The nature and system of the conflict was the
issue, not the actual atrocities committed by both sides. Those wrongful attacks or methods were
results of the main political differences of the French and Algerians. For me, I wonder if France
truly tried to assimilate Algeria and give Algerians the same citizenship and rights as Frenchmen,
would the FLN be this violent and adamant about independence? It was clear in this movie (and in
Battle of Algiers) that the FLN initially was a minority in Algeria but due to French
counterinsurgency, the majority decided to pick the lesser of two

High School Government And Politics Class
I remember a mixture of enthusiasm and dread prior to a visit from a Pennsylvania state
representative to my high school government and politics class. We were discussing local
educational funding and I had many questions for him about the topic. But more than anything I
did not want to embarrass myself. I went to bed early the previous night, and before class I
guzzled two cans of Monster energy drink. There was a safety pin in my pocket just in case. The
first few minutes of class I felt euphoric and was enthralled with the discussion on the local
political landscape. However, my energy quickly began to drain. I tried to focus on my notes
but after a half hour I was barely able to grip my pencil and saw that much of what I had written
was incoherent scribble. In desperation, I took the safety pin out of my pocket and frantically
began stabbing the palm of my hand. My efforts were for naught, because at some point I
completely fell asleep only to wake up five minutes before the lecture was over. This was a common
occurrence throughout my high schoolcareer but I was not correctly diagnosed with narcolepsy
until the spring of my senior year. As a result, much of my college experience was spent adjusting
to life with this diagnosis.
Under the care of Dr. Cantor at the Penn Sleep Center, I felt confident that I could finally be a
normal person. But I soon found that a medical diagnosis and treatment was not a literal cure all .

The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963 By Christopher Paul...
There are some siblings that fight sometimes because of their differences, but they also have
similarities. The novel, The Watsons go to Birmingham 1963, by Christopher Paul Curtis is
about a black family called the Watsons who go on a trip from Flint, Michigan all the way to
Birmingham, Alabama to visit their relative. But they quickly learn that the rules in
Birmingham are a lot different than the ones in Flint. How this is connected is because the two
siblings, Kenny and Byron sometimes do fight a lot but then learn that while they do have
differences, they also have similarities as well. This essay will be about Byron and Kenny s
similarities and differences. One of the similarities that Byron and Kenny have are that they are
both protective. Byron shows this trait when he makes up stories to try to convince Kenny and
Joey to not do something dangerous like when he makes up the whole Wool Pooh story so
Kenny and Joey won t go swimming in a dangerous lake. Kenny also shows this trait when he
tries to tell Byron not to do something bad so he won t get into trouble. One other similarity is
mischievous. Byron shows this trait when he keeps playing pranks on Kenny and does other stuff

he sometimes disobeys his parents orders and talks back to them. There are some other differences

losing their oldest and Conrad s older brother Buck. Some of the reasons why the Jarrett was so
dysfunctional was because of masking, avoiding, labeling, and withdrawing . Some strategies to help

Analysis Of Revelation By Liz Lochhead
The poem Revelation, by Liz Lochead, is a gripping story about a chance encounter that leads the
reader into a deeper understanding of the poem s underlying theme. The poem focuses on a girl
who is visiting a farm and is given the opportunity to see a bull that is kept out of sight. Lochhead
manages to grasp the reader s imagination by the use of wordchoice, sentence structure, imagery
and personification. This allows the reader to visualize the recurring theme of sexual awakening
within the poem. Liz Lochhead, creates a deeper understanding of the poem s theme by her word
choice, which helps explain the events leading up to the young girls encounter with the bull. She
uses the word threshold , which describes the girl standing at the opening of the barn. The word
has connotations of a crossover from innocence to experience. At this point in time the girl is
standing at the edge of purity, about to step over to the other side revealing something unknown
to her. This describes to the reader that she has reached the stage in her life where she is ready to
be exposed to her sexual awakening and the evil that is prominent in the world. The writer then
builds on this motif by the way she structures the poem in the lead up to the girl meeting the bull.
In stanza one she adds the hot reek of him. Then he was immense . The use of the caesura adds a
dramatic effect to the poem causing the reader to pause, instilling fear. It makes the reader realise
that this isn t just a chance encounter after all, as it has a great impact on the young girl. From
this one encounter the girl remembers the bull s overwhelming smell body heat. This explains,
further, that the girl is no longer at a stage of innocence. She has been introduced to the fear and
dread that surrounds her, that she was once oblivious too. The use of imagery throughout the poem
also helps the reader gain a further insight to the underlying meaning. She uses imagery
particularly well when the girl has experienced the bull. Lockheed uses the words darkness roar to
describe the bull in more detail. Although, this helps the reader create the image of the bull, the
words also portray thoughts of the dread and panic the girl has over this new chapter

How The Romans Built Aqueducts
Ancient Romans have had a huge impact on influencing modern civilizations, through several
factors ranging from architecture to literature to engineering. The Romans engineering skills
contributed greatly to the establishment of their civilization. Their bridges and roads tied their
empire together and made travel easier especially for merchants and soldiers. But it is the Romans
water system of that set them as an advanced and modern civilization. The Romans were very
skilled architects to an extent that some of their work, such as aqueducts, is still in existence. Some
aqueducts are even still in use by modern day societies to supply fountains with water. An aqueduct
is a water supply or navigable channel constructed to convey water. Since water is one of life s most
important necessities, the ancient Romans built aqueducts in all parts of their empire making it
way easier to transport and provide the empire with water. The water provided by the aqueducts was
used for different purposes which include mining, processing, manufacturing, agriculture, supplying
public baths, latrines, fountains and private households with water. Among the most notable water

get to households still impossible. But once aqueduct water was brought to the city s higher
elevations, well appointed public baths got widespread throughout the city, and drinking water
could be delivered to public fountains. Public baths and fountains became distinctive features of the
Roman Empire, and in particular the baths became important social

The Act Of Demobilisation By George Mosses
The act of demobilisation involves the standing down of armed troops. In the case of the loss of
the First World War, once the armistice was signed, Germany needed to return their forces home
from the Eastern and Western fronts. No formal plan took place, but a speedy operation ensued to
try and avoid disgruntled and agitated soldiers.
Some historians such as Detlev Peukert and Richard Bessel would agree in the successfulness of
the act of demobilising the German troops, commenting that, The first phase of demobilization
went through astonishingly smoothly. However, a glance at home and the private sphere shows
that demobilisation was a far more contested process. As Maureen Healy would argue, civilizing
the soldier was not as simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the German defeat, plans for a gradual demobilisation, as drawn up in 1916, were
forgotten about. The terms of the armistice treaty stated all German troops must be returned
home within 31 days, which was accepted and a speedy demobilisation was further encouraged
with the soldiers determination to be home for Christmas; ...the troops could think of only one
thing : we want to be at home for Christmas. Because of this urging desire to get home as quickly
as possible, many soldiers decidedly made their own journeys home, which was found to be not as
chaotic as expected, but actually made the process of demobilisation easier, as Bessel insinuates,
Rather than make more difficult the task of getting the soldiers back home, it may have done just
the opposite. Therefore, with the means of demobilising the troops being simplified in such a way,
and quickly acted upon, the course of returning the soldiers home was surprisingly successful,
especially after considering the demoralised and hurried nature of the process.
However, this is not all that should be considered when contemplating the demobilisation of the
German soldiers. Although the act of bringing the soldiers back from the Western and Eastern
fronts was seemingly effective, introducing them into society can be construed differently; as
highlighted by Maureen Healy Demobilization did not take place at the instant when a man was
discharged from

The Mongol Empire
By 1260, the Mongol Empire extended from the Siberian forests to the Yellow Sea and the
Eastern Mediterranean coast. The vast expanse of land the Mongols ruled over made it difficult
for leaders to quickly relay orders to troops making advances on several fronts and to communicate
other information, edicts, and laws. To combat the inefficient communication, the Yam system was
developed under Chinggis Khan s rule and was officially established under Ogodei Khan. The
network included post houses located every few miles, between which messengers would ride their
horses pass off the messages to each other. When Marco Polo traveled in the Mongol Empire in the
thirteenth century, he claimed that the Mongols maintained up to 10,000 relay stations and
200,000 horses in the Yam (Strayer 347). Each messenger was considered an official representative
of the Great Khan, and was eventually issued a tablet called a paiza. The paizas were used to
distinguish messengers carrying out orders from unauthorized merchants and traders who were not
granted the use of the stations. Through this simple yet massive communication system, messages
that normally required weeks to transport now took only a few days to cross thousands of miles. By
speeding up communication, the Great Khan could give orders and receive reports rapidly,
increasing the efficiency and accuracy of their military attacks and the rate of implementing new

The Mirror At The Tears Staining My Face
I looked in the mirror at the tears staining my face. I saw someone who wasn t me, and all I saw
were flaws. I told myself that I had to be different and better in many ways. In that moment I
realized that being someone I m not is what brought me here. I am who I am and no one can stop
that.
January 11, 2003. That s the day I was born. My family immediately loved me, (as most families
do.) but they barely had any time to give me attention because of their busy work and travel
schedules. They weren t like many other parents however because they would do anything for me,
and the reason they worked so hard was for our family to live a better life.
One amazing thing came out of my parents working was that I got to spend tons of time with my
grandparents. I have a bond with them that I don t believe anyone else could have with their
grandparents. They would bring me to so many places like to museums and to the botanic gardens,
and we would have a blast.
I remember a time when I was only three, and they had picked me up from drama class. I had
assigned them characters and we went to my house and put on a big show. That s when I
realized how much I liked acting and writing. We would do new shows every day together. When I
came to their house we would choose from a list of games to play and I got to be creative.
One game was called Tooth Fairy . (This was my favorite.) In this game, Grandma would pretend
to be the tooth fairy and I would lay in my bed and Grandpa would

Odysseus Punishment Essay
Punishments follow actions. Sometimes they are not always fair or well deserved, but other times
they are essential to learn right from wrong. In our society, all crimes have punishments; however,
the punishment depends on the severity of the crime. In our culture, it is important to have
consequences following deplorable actions because if there is no discipline for poor decisions it
would establish these poor decisions to be acceptable. In every confrontation there are always two
sides. In the epic, The Odyssey, written by Homer, two evident sides are that of which the suitors
and Odysseus. Some readers say Odysseus s punishmenttowards the suitors was too unexpected and
too extreme; others disagree, saying the suitors deserved what... Show more content on

As stated above, there is always more than one opinion. Although some feel Odysseus tactics
were excessive. For one thing, out of the one hundred and eight suitors total not even half of them
participated in shenanigans that kept reoccurring. Not all of them deserved to die. Many were
bystanders, but they still did not choose to leave after being warned. Antinous, the corrupt leader
of the suitors, was malicious, impolite, and disrespectful. He set the tone for the rest of the suitors
and many of the suitors followed his lead. Since they had a cruel, harsh leader the suitors also
acted like this. Lastly, the most extreme form of punishment is death. While suitors were begging
for forgiveness, Odysseus showed no mercy and slaughtered all of them. As stated above, there are
many reasons why a reader would pick either side of this argument.
Omen s are not meant to be taken lightly. Normally when one gives a warning it is best to believe
what he or she may be saying and do the right thing. In this case, the suitors had been warned to
evacuate Odysseus palace. This omen was not only to warn the suitors, but it was given to try to
protect the suitors from Odysseus s wrath. After twenty years of trying earnestly to return home,
Odysseus discovers that over one hundred men have been living in his house, drinking his wine,

The Importance Of The Fair Trade Movement
The movement I chose to research was the Fair Trade Movement. The main goal of the Fair
Trade Movement is to provide support to allow workers and farmers in local communities to not
get overshadowed or taken advantage of by large corporations and be provided with sustainable
and reasonable working conditions. Fairtrade is important as it is used to help improve the lives
and communities of producers that are small scale. Furthermore, Fairtrade is more than just trading
goods It highlights the need for change in the rules and practice of conventional trade and shows
how a successful business can also put people first. It is a tangible contribution to the fight against
poverty, climate change and economic crisis (World Fair TradeOrganization).
The key values of the Fairtrade movement include five values that the Fair Trade Movement are
committed to which are: People First, Excellence, Integrity, Respect, and Passion (Fair Trade
Canada). In terms of people, the Fairtrade movement focuses their goal around promoting and
improving the wellbeing of people such as farmers, workers and other members of small scale,
or local businesses. Secondly, for integrity they try to be as honest, ethical and transparent as
possible as they are accountable to their stakeholders (Fair Trade Canada). Third, respect is a key
value to the Fairtrade movement as they want to collaborate and work with diverse groups who
share similar values as the movement. Finally, passion is their last key value

Beloved Candy Crush Saga Mobile Game Essay
Gemix Slot Machines
While many people commonly think that Gemix is a slot machine game, it s best not to think of
it as such. Gemix Slot Machines is unique for it mixes into the arcade game category while many
still consider it a slots type of game. With this, it seems to be a popular arcade/slot machine hybrid
game due to its addictive gameplay, attractive interface, and of course, its casino like energy and
concept. We can say that it s reminiscent of the beloved Candy Crush Saga mobile game because of
Gemix s matching gems mechanic and its associated features.
Before we get into how Gemix is played, let s first discuss how the game looks when you start to
play it. Play N Go makes efforts to make sure their games look and play in a similar fashion
compared to their other well known mobile games, and while there s not too much to be in awe
about in terms of looks for Gemix, it s cleaner than most related games. Gemix does just have
gems on the screen and nothing else that special, but it looks pretty sufficient for its game category
so you won t be disappointed.
When you first play the game, Gemix looks like any other slot machine game in the market with its
seven reels, but these reels don t function like you think they would. As you play the game on a
7x7 grid, the grid shuffles when you press the start button, just like on a slot machine. When you
make a combination of five or more of the same neighboring symbols, these symbols will then

ABSTRACT
The ever increasing carbon emissions from the automobiles all around the world has forced the
incorporation of novel , more sustainable means of non conventional fuels for the automobiles
like the hybrid cars , solar vehicles , the use of gasohol and alcohol based fuels is also considered
as an alternative for the conventional fuels and also the development of solar electric hybrid
vehicle. There are a lot of possibilities and feasible solutions for lowering the carbon emissions

The trap oxidizer development in Greece is one of many scientific research done to reduce vehicle
emissions. The carbon dioxide capture using nanostructured membranes is also another way to
check the vehicle emissions. In this method single gas separation experiments were carried out
using silica modified membranes to study the behavior of individual gas permeation at different
pressures and temperatures.
1. Working of nanostructures membranes in capturing CO2 emission.
Design and fabrication of porous membranes comprises of many layers of different materials
namely: Aluminium Oxide (Al2O3), Titanium Oxide (TiO2), Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2), Silicon
Dioxide (SiO2), Silicon Carbide, Zeolite, or a mixture of two materials applied on an underlying
porous stainless steel. The manner in which gas molecules flow is generally influenced by three
factors: The gas properties, morphology of the membrane and the material used for membrane
design. The technology is environment friendly, quite economical and efficient. It is applicable to
all forms of CO2 removal from other gases. Nanotechnology is being greatly used in this method
of carbon capture. Since 2003 vehicles have been built with on board communications network
protocol called CAN (Controlled Area Network).CANbus is basically a bridge between the

Being the first stage of WWW, it is described as an interface where the exchange of information is

Introduction The research discussed in this paper explores the impact of heroin on the population
as well as its impact on the methods healthcare workers use to treat the individuals who are

issue on society as well as how nurse led rehabilitation can be utilized to improve client outcomes

An issue in the healthcare field when discussing drug dependence in the patient population is the
stigma that follows these individuals. These patients are struggling with an addiction process that
most nurses and other healthcare workers do not completely understand. As a result of this
disconnect between patient and nurse there is often a lack of truthful communication from the
patient for fear of having this stigma affect the treatment they receive. In this article a real situation
was discussed in which a patient was not properly medicated for pain after a cholecystectomy
based on the knowledge of the healthcare staff pertaining to her utilization of the Community
Alcohol and Drug Services program. This individual was stigmatized and put through intense pain
based on the decisions made by staff that who took it upon themselves to make choices for her

the great number of faults in his rule, and the reason for seeking liberation (Declaration 1).
A second document that perfectly personifies the achieving of equality amongst individuals, is
from Malcolm X s The Ballot or the Bullet. Malcolm X, like many great orators, uses a number of
literary techniques in his speech to persuade the audience of his argument. One example of how
Malcolm does this, is seen as he states No, I m not an American. I m one of the 22 million black
people who are the victims of Americanism. One of the 22 million black people who are the
victims of democracy, nothing but disguised hypocrisy. Immediately following this, again states
So, I m not standing here speaking to you as an American, or a patriot, or a flag saluter, or a flag
waver no, not I. I m speaking as a victim of this American system. And I see America through the
eyes of the victim. I don t see any American dream; I see an American nightmare (Breitman 26).
As can be seen, Malcolm uses a more sympathetic approach to gaining support, or specifically
speaking, an emotional appeal. By using his personal reference, like the declaration, he become one
with the audience in a peer to peer relationship. This intern

The Capulets In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy composed by William Shakespeare, based on the long narrative
poem by Arthur Brooke, The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet, which is based on an earlier
Italian story. The play takes place in Verona, Italy. The exact time period of the text is not directly
addressed, but is supposedly in the 1590 s. The play focuses on two characters, Romeo and Juliet,
each from one of two feuding families, the Montagues and the Capulets. Romeo is of Montague
blood while Juliet is a descendant of the Capulets.
In Act I, Romeo had been in love with Rosaline, a member of the Capulets. He claims that he is

Flagler College
Methods This study looks at the effect personality has on teacher leadership. In this study, the
independent variable is based off of the Big Five Inventory (BFI), and is a person s T score in
each of the Big Five personality traits. The dependent variable would be the scores in each of the
seven domains on the Teacher Leadership Inventory (TLI). An Analysis of Variability (ANOVA)
will be used to determine if there is a relationship between personality and teacher leadership.
In previous research by Aydin, Balvi, and Alci (2013), it was shown that neuroticismhas negative
effects on all teaching competencies examined, and extroversion is significantly and positively
correlated to teaching competency, so this study will look at the effects of extroversion and
neuroticism on teacher leadership. In this study, it is predicted that there will be a relationship
between personality and leadership, and while Extroversion will have a positive correlation with the
seven teacher leadership domains, neuroticism will have a negative correlation with the seven
teacher leadership domains.

Misogynistic Perspective In Lolita
Vladimir Nabokov s provocative novel, Lolita, chronicles literature professor Humbert Humbert s
spiral into madness following his perverse infatuation with his landlady s daughter. This novel
was published in 1955 during the post war period in America, whereby women were forced out of
professional roles in order to undertake domestic duties. Nabokov was likely influenced to explore
the male dominant attitudes of this time through his construction of Humbert s misogynistic
perspective. On trial for murder, Humbert narrates this novel from his jail cell. As Humbert

The primary difference between these two streams of feminism is how much respect [each

Additionally, the deconstructionist notion of breaking down a text into its constituent differences
will be employed as part of the methodology to apply these theories. As the novel has presented the
challenge of an unreliable narrator, it may initially be hard for me to refrain from interpreting the
text through a psychoanalytical perspective. However, my experience with principles of
Deconstruction should assist me in analysing the text and formulating a feminist reading to
advance the current understanding of the novel.
To begin, in order to generate a traditional feminist reading of Lolita, an alternate reading must be
identified by applying deconstructive principles to the text. Deconstruction is based upon Jacques
Derrida s strategies of exposing the instability of a text s meaning, aiming to show how texts come
to embarrass their own ruling systems of logic. Deconstruction rose to prominence in the late 1960s
and is associated with the post structuralist movement of this time. This movement came about
amidst the rejection of structuralist ideals, particularly regarding the fixity of the relationship
between the signifier and signified, by philosophers such as Michel Foucault and Louis Althusser.

Panama Canal Thesis Statement
Thesis Statement
There is no doubt that the building of the Panama Canal was a major feat in history that has made
a huge impact on the way many countries trade with each other. It was a great struggle to complete
but it also was very rewarding.
The Land Area
The Isthmus of Panama is about 50 miles wide at its narrowest point. The land was thick with
jungle, deep swamp, and mountains. What the surveyors did not realize is that the geology behind
the land made it much harder to build the canal than in other places around the world. The
surrounding mountain range was formed differently than most mountain ranges, commonly formed
by folding due to lateral pressure. These mountains were formed by individual volcanic actions.

In 1876, French Navy Lieutenant Lucien N. B. Wyse, a grandson of Lucien Bonaparte, was sent
to explore locations and different possibilities for the canal. He returned home in April 1877 and
showed De Lesseps the construction plans. De Lesseps rejected all of the plans because they
required tunnels and locks to be built. De Lesseps prefered to build a sea level canal like the
Suez Canal. Wyse went back to the isthmus on December 6, 1877. He explored two routes in
Panama, one through Nicaragua and one through Panama. In the end he chose the Panamanian
route, which would be sea level. The route would follow the Panama Railroad and require a 7,720
meter long tunnel through the Continental Divide at Culebra. He traveled to Bogota and the
Colombian government signed a treaty on March 20th, 1878 that granted rights to build the canal
through Panama, then part of Colombia. The treaty promised Colombia ownership of the canal
after 99 years. It was estimated to take six years and $240 million. The digging started the first day
of 1880
By March 1883, construction was behind schedule and 660,000 out the promised 5,000,000 cubic
meters have been excavated. After visiting Panama in 1886, De Lesseps claims construction will
be done by July 1889. Later that year, only a few feet out of hundreds have been removed from the
Culebra Cut. De Lesseps hired

and Nazis alike participated in Kristallnacht, even though little punishment would follow those
who did not take part as long as they did not protest. Mengele, for example, was not required by
law to perform cruel and unusual experiments on his people. Eichmann, Himmler, Jeckeln, Ilse
Koch. These people were not followers, they were leaders. Ilse Koch skinned her inmates at
Buchenwald and used their skins as pillow cushions and book covers. She encouraged the rape,
murder, and torture of her girls, thinking it to be great fun (whatculture.com 2). Jeckeln
developed a system, force the prisoners to dig a massive ditch, strip, lay down in the ditch, and
be shot in their self dug grave (whatculture.com 1). Jeckeln organised Babi Yar, where laughing
soldiers beat the Jews to death and shot them in Jeckeln s favorite way. It was said of Babi Yar
that, Those who hesitated had their clothes ripped off of them by force, and were kicked and
struck with knuckledusters or clubs by the Germans, who seemed to be drunk with fury in a
sadistic sort of rage (Anatoli 106). These malevolent people led to horrors not required nor even
imagined by Hitler. They came only from the brains of these malicious, sadistic monsters. Hitler

White Privilege In Untouchable
White privilege is something that most people aren t aware of. In Untouchable , Eminem
includes real life situations where it occurs, moreover he is describing the point of view of a
white male on white privilege and the social impacts that come along. White privilege is a big
issue in our society and most people don t know it until it is mentioned to them. Eminem a well
known rapper includes where white privilege can protect whites while doing the opposite for
blacks, nevertheless he s incorporating his view to show his audience that justice does not
equally practice and that people should be aware of what is happening around them. In this
song, Eminem not only uses his power as an artist to make his audience know what s happening
in the US, but he also makes sure that people understand what it might feel like for someone who
s different. Eminem touched on white supremacist and how it causes impacts on minority groups
especially African Americans. The beginning of the song in Verse 1 starts with Black boy, black

was cheerful and prideful because he was proud to be a white man, but once he presented to the
public what African Americans face and the difference for a white male. His tone changed to show
how what is happening is something that needs to change and that he is ashamed of what he sees

Essay On Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter who did self portraits and is considered a feminist icon. She is
one of the most important female artists of the twentieth century. She originally wanted to become
a doctor, but a bus accident left her unable to do so. I chose this artist and this painting because she
painted herself with one eyebrow and a wispy moustache. I thought to myself amazing! A rich
looking woman sporting a monobrow and moustache! I was stunned and intrigued. I thought to
myself, she must be an interesting person to have such things and live in the early 1900s. And
thus, I found my topic for Art Appreciation. Frida didn t have any formal training but she
developed her artistic skills and later would influence people and... Show more content on

Adding the white highlights to the black makes it looks ruffled, full, and a smooth, satin material.
The lower part of the dress is almost all white except for the light lines of grey and black to give it a
ruffled appearance. The bottom is drawn with a single, thin, wavy line in a half circle to give it
a full look. The top of her dress is black with small, white dots to indicate beads or another kind of
decoration. The sides are gold with white tints. The golden, thin, curved lines look like
embroidery. The silver necklace is a delicate, straight line and has a grey tint. On her neck is a
small, jeweled necklace. Her jewelry stands out on her bronze skin and the black dress. Hanging
from one of her ears is a large, blue feather earring. It is painted with lots of small, thin lines to
indicate the fluffiness of a feather. It s light at the top that gradually becomes darker. Her body

small fleck of white paint added for highlight. There also appears to be, what looks like a small,
yellow flower above it. The cigarette she s holding is in contrast to her black dress. The cigarette

That was scary that to read how they use mutagenic chemical, tris B8, in children s pajamas. The
interesting thing they use this chemical in the U.S, but not in the Europe. Ames argues that all the
permanent hair dyes were mutagenic because they contained aromatic amines, which are often
chemicals. Sadly I dyemy hair so often. Sometimes I feel like knowing too much stuff doesn t

Colonial Development, Colonialism, Colonialism And...
What is the relation between colonial experience and economic development? Answer by way of
discussing colonialism, modernisation and economic development. Introduction 300 There is a
distinct relationship between a nation s economic development and its historical colonial
experiences. For centuries, colonial rulers, primarily from Europe, spread throughout the world,
across the Americas, in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and began to transform the very fabric of
a number of populations and thriving nations. Colonising nations introduced a plethora of
technologies and took modern approaches to the integration into the global economy, which made
substantial changes to the development of a large number of colonised countries. On the other
hand, the monopolisation and exploitation of these cultures and economies spurred centuries of
oppression and crippled the development of what has become known as the Global South. For
many nations, the redirection of wealth and resources to the benefit of colonial nations triggered
the end of economic success for what are now known as developing nations and caused massive
inequality and social disparity for entire populations. In India, expected economic success was
significantly stalled by European colonisers, with key aspects of its society and livelihood
destroyed by foreign intervention. As a result, the nation was hurled backwards and its economic
development was held at a standstill, consequently subjecting the local population

Nora Ephron The Boston Photographs Summary
Rowell Dingle
Professor Corbin
English 13 Wed. 7pm
20 May 2016 The Boston Photographs In, The Boston Photographs by Nora Ephron she states
photojournalism has a bigger impact than written journalism. It provides real images of events
that have occurred and often times can create an outrage upon consumers. She goes on to further
her claim by stating that when incidents do happen tragically it is not the occurrence that happen,
but knowing death took place and that people were involved. Having imagery of death is
something most people would not want to see as it can anger them especially if it involves people
they know, but it captures the attention and that is what news articles are trying to get which is the
significance of how to involve consumers into the loop, regardless if it is subjective. Ephron

from Ephron s, The Boston Photographs is all about thinking about how others might react to a
certain image and before even thinking of publishing it, think about the newspaper boy who has to
distribute these papers with graphic images printed on them. If a consumer were to ask the
newspaper boy explain the image and why it was printed for a reason, there really would have to be

My Experience At A Children s Camp
The past few days of observation are based upon my final week as a coordinator for a children s
camp. Including my interactions with people as our programs are winding down and the
unexpected realities of what was going on outside of the camp. In this week I experienced; upward
social comparison, availability heuristic, mortality salience and social cognition.
Upward social comparison I participated in a panel discussing the benefits of advanced
placement classes. In my discussion of my personal experiences, I talked about comparing
myself to my more intelligent classmates. In high school I felt like I was not as mart as my
classmates. I discussed how it made me work harder, I wanted to be at what I perceived was a
higher level. The example in the book mentioned studies of people using upward social
comparison to motivate themselves to success (pg. 86). As mentioned by the text upwards
social comparison can be a positive tool for motivation. The textbook also spoke about the
dangers of comparing yourself with others if a person does not believe they can reach what they
are aspiring to be. I recognize what the danger in upward social comparison could be, it would be
hard to process failure if you lived your entire life comparing yourself to others. I do not know if I
thought I could reach what I was comparing myself to, but I believe I benefited from the push.
Eventually, I no longer relied the comparison.
Availability Heuristic In my closing duties, I evaluated

The entire concept of sharing one s testimony is subjective. A believer can tell someone about
their horrible past, but if they did not know the believer before they were a believer, the
testimony could fall flat. Additionally, it is an non provable method, since it is a personal feeling
or experience the person is describing, not concrete proof. Finally, there is an issue with
duplication by other religions, meaning that other religious believers have a testimony and
experience to share, as well. Relying solely on the experiential apologetics leaves the apologist
open to a myriad of problems with proof and deniability of their testimony.
CONCLUSION
Experiential apologetics proposes that knowledge of God and his grace has to come from a
personal experience which then leads to acceptance of God s truth expressed in the Scriptures.
This personal experience may come from a testimony of a believer to an unbeliever, or through
direct experience of a non believer causing them to become a believer. While several proponents
of this method have developed different interpretations of the form over time, the basic principle
still remains valid that a shared experience can help to save a lost soul. Although experiential
apologetics are considered one of the personal and intimate forms of apologetics, it is also
considered one of the weakest forms due to

European Union Pros And Cons
Discuss the benefits of the European Union (EU) for its member states. Does the recent financial
and debt crisis provide arguments against regional economic integration?
The European Union
The European union is an integrated system featuring some if not most of the countries in Europe.
It is an economic and political agreement between the European member states that binds countries
together through treaties, which have been signed by every country in the union. It was established
back in the 1950s but, back then it only featured 19 countries in comparison to now when it features
28.
For the countries featured in The European Union, there are several benefits the country and its
citizens incur. These include, free mobility between member states as you can work, study and
travel wherever you please within the European union. Also, as per occupytheory.org, over 3.5
million jobs have been created for the 320 million European citizens just over the last few years.
However, not all their policies are effective as we saw with the common agricultural policy that led
to the increase in price and oversupply of goods. Although this is a negative, the European union
still manages to maintain integration through the development of deprived regions. This is done by
the other member states helping to improve countries which aren t as developed as them, this is
done through the European Structural Fund .
Following on from this the EU has a large variety of benefits towards it member

Business and Climate Change
В§ 1.0 Introduction
Although research on climate change is quite vague about the exact degree of warming and the
consequences for the natural environment, a wide range of impacts can be expected (Metz, 2011).
The temperature changes and the sea level rise, this has a negative impact on food production,
water availability, human health, biological environment and infrastructure in coastal areas.
Vulnerability is highest in poor countries where the changes will have a devastating effect. Metz
(2011) states that there is no escape from the conclusion that human beings are responsible. As a
consequence, the general opinion imposes responsibility for companies to put effort in ... Show

Furthermore, voluntary climate change policy will result in elevating UBS reputation (Hoffman,
2005). As stated before, a large percentage of society all over the world has concerns about global
warming. Different business units of UBS can benefit from this reputational aspect. First, private
investors who consider environmental strategies in making investments will prefer UBS Wealth
Management and Business Banking Switzerland above competitors such as Citigroup and Morgan
Stanley. Second, institutional investors as well as private clients will value UBS environmental
friendly reputation. Thirdly, UBS could broaden its scope by starting trading carbon credits. Their
reputation could help them compete with competitors such as Morgan Stanley that is active in
this are already. Besides their clients, UBS employees will be more motivated to work for a CR
company since they believe that companies should contribute to solve global warming problems.
Therefore, a green policy can increase the retention rates of skilled workers (Hoffman, 2005).
В§ 3.0 Method to implement green policy
To become carbon neutral, UBS could adjust their company activities or compensate their GHG
emission. Besides replacing business travel with videoconferencing, UBS could manage their
energy use more effectively with the aim to realize carbon neutral buildings. First, concerning their

Similarities And Differences Between Harry Potter And King...
Throughout the Harry Potter novels, there have been many similarities between King Arthur and
Harry Potter. Harry and Arthur have shared similarities since the beginning of their lives, they
were both orphaned and raised by relative, and they both grew up unaware of their great destiny.
Arthur was the only one who could pull the sword Excalibur out of the stone, or from a hand
coming out of the lake which proves he is the true king. Just like only a true Gryffindor could pull
the sword of Godric Gryffindor out of the sorting hat and find it in the lake. Harry s mentor
throughout the entire series is Dumbledore who taught transfiguration and King Arthurs mentor was
Merlin, an old man with a long white beard who was also a shapeshifter. Harry was given an
invisibility cloak by Dumbledore and Arthur had a cloak that made whoever wore it invisible.
Ron had a chess set that Harry and him played with where the pieces moved by themselves and
at the end of Sorcerer s Stone they encountered a life size version. Arthur also had a chess board
where the pieces could move all by themselves. The Mirror of King Rhyence was Merlin s mirror
where the person looking at the mirror will see whatever they wish. Harry stumbled upon the mirror
of erised which showed you what you want most in the world. Harry and King Arthur both have
enemies named Lucius as well. Throughout all the similarities between the two characters makes

The Constitution Act Of 1982
The Constitution Act of 1982, or more commonly known as, The Charter of Rights and Freedoms,
constitutionally entrenched fundamental civil liberties, which have protected Canadians from both
federal and provincial legislative imposition. Since the Charter s inception, however, Canada s
judiciary has been placed under great criticism and scrutiny due to the fact that the courts were
believed to have been given legislative powers that rivaled both the federal and provincial
legislatures. Through Judicial Review, the Supreme Court of Canada was given the task to interpret
the charter since that wording of the legal document itself was vague enough to warrant
interpretation, and hence, gave critics a reason to believe that supreme court justices have been the
power to legislate without any political or public recourse. Unfortunately, as a result of these
criticisms, various public notions, such as appointed and not duly elected Supreme Court justices
with the ability to legislate, became the main focus in questioning whether the supreme court s
institutional functions were legitimate, and in tandem with the principles of a free and democratic
society.
Given, the misconceptions regarding the Canadian judiciary by both critics and the public alike, the
purpose of this research is to investigate the functions, and criticisms surrounding the Canadian
judiciary. The result of this investigation will provide a clear and informative argument that, Canada
s judiciary did not seize

William Wilberforce was a philanthropist, politician, legislator, and abolitionist of slavery who grew up in Hull, a large seaport city on the northeast coast of Great Britain, and as a child he went to the traditional Anglican church. By the age of 16, he went to Cambridge University, where he met his good friend William Pitt the Younger who became a loyal supporter. Later in his life, he started to have doubts about his faith and culturally accepted the waters of aloofness and skepticism toward anyone who took Christian faith seriously. • 6. The Events Of The Crusades The crusades had many factors leading up to these holy wars. Many of them included religious factors since the main reason behind the crusades was religion. The crusades has more than just a religious background, there are many social and political reasons behind the crusades too. The first of the crusades happened between the years of 1096 1099 and began when Pope Urban the II sent out a message informing his people to go to war against the Muslims in the Holy Land, or Jerusalem. Armies of Christians from Western Europe then took over Jerusalem in 1099 and the Muslims of the region vowed to start another holy war against the Christians to regain control of their land. This led to the second crusade from 1147 1149 (1). The Muslim people began to regain the land they had lost and overthrew Edessa, the ruler assigned to govern the land while the rest of the crusaders went home. The Muslims then combined their forces with the Turks and together they defeated the Crusaders thus ending the second crusade (1). The third crusade was the result of the fall of Jerusalem. It occurred between the years 1189 1192 due to the fact that Jerusalem had fallen under the control of Saladin, sultan of Egypt (1). Three armies from Europe led by Richard of England, Phillip the II of France, and Frederick Barbarossa were going to make an attempt to stop Saladin but Frederick died and the other two kings did not get along so the third crusade failed (1). • 7. An Analysis Of The Film Chicago And The Scarlet Letter In the film Chicago and the novel, The Scarlet Letter both Roxie Hart and Hester Prynne are the protagonist, and are sent to jail for being guilty of committing adultery, and cheating on their husbands. During the pre war Ragtime Era, many young Americans had been chastised by their elders for several violations against decency, including using slang, dancing low class dances, and enjoying syncopated music with African American influences. Progressive women were especially criticized, for abandoning the corset, wearing shorter skirts that exposed their ankles, cutting their hair short, and leaving the separate sphere of their domestic domain to be socially and politically active in the public arena. As in the later transition from the 1950s to 1960s, this repression led to a backlash. During the Roaring Twenties young Americans responded to this criticism by expanding on all of these violations, with more outrageous slang, jazzier music and dance, shorter and flimsier dresses and shorter hair. And the efforts of the Suffragettes paid off when the Nineteenth Amendment, granting women the right to vote, was ratified in 1920. The separate spheres of the 19th century had been broken and the Flapper redefined modern womanhood. • 8. Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray... Of all the qualities in a hero, the ones that make helping a heroic act are honesty, wisdom, dedication and conviction, which John from Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher and Clarisse from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury portray. John and Clarisse are both honest about everything no matter what anyone says or thinks. They also take the wisdom they gain from their experiences, and use it to create a positive impact on those that they are helping. The level of dedication that John shows is one side of a pole while Clarisse s level of dedication is on the other. Clarisse puts more conviction into changing perspective, since she does this just by staying true to her opinion. John and Clarisse both show honesty and wisdom in their actions when they... John and Clarisse both take what they learn from their influencing experiences and apply this wisdom into their actions in the process of helping, whether it is protecting or changing perspective of Heidi and Montag. Although Clarisse and John are both honest and wise, they go about helping with extremely different levels of dedication, with John putting complete dedication into saving Heidi from her abusive dad. Because of the same experience of running over a baby, he puts all his dedication into protecting every form of life that he sees from danger and death to make up his sin (Crutcher, 52). So, when trouble comes along for Heidi and she is placed in his house, he puts all his focus on keeping her father away. When Heidi s dad keeps calling his house even after Heidi s mom takes her children to see him by violating rules, John immediately drops what he is doing and goes out to record Heidi s dad breaking the no contact rule as well as give him a warning that he will definitely give the evidence to the police if he does not stop shadowing his family (Crutcher, 154 155). These critiques have been brought on by the ineffectiveness of prisons to reform individuals, the ineptness of the system to reduce crime rates, the lack of focus on victims of crimes, as well as the racist, classist and sexist practices existing in these institutions. Abolitionists argue that by severely punishing some of the poor in order to deter society from committing crimes; we are only further contributing to the inequalities in today s society. A second key argument advanced for the abolition of prisons is the failure to rehabilitate with imprisonment. Rehabilitation is supposed to permit the individual to be restored to a law abiding citizen, contributing to society. However, abolitionists argue that prisons do not permit this. First, schooling and work within prisons is supposed to allow individuals to become productive citizens in society. However, In many prisons, especially the old ones, the work which is offered is to a large extent meaningless (placing advertisement material in envelopes, folding tobacco packets), or simply non existent . (Mathiesen, 2008, p. 34). This work experience is therefore without benefit to the prisoner upon his release. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Essay On Intimate Enemies Intimate Enemies, (L Ennemi intime), a French war film based on the Algerian war, presents a convincing portrayal of the psychological trauma of French soldiers fighting against Algerian insurgents. This movie reminded me of the barbarity of war and its detrimental effects on the people involved. The movie takes place in the remote and mountainous regions of Algeria in 1959 where the French army is fighting with the Fellagha (Algerian insurgents). The soldiers there are joined by Lieutenant Terrien who is a new, naГЇve and idealistic officer. Terrien quickly faces events that challenge his moral beliefs such as village massacres, prisoner tortures and shooting of civilians. Terrien states that if an order is morally unacceptable, then you should refuse it sir. The captain counters that the FLN uses vile methods too, similar to how people were treated in Vietnam. He contends that the warfare in Vietnam and Algeria was less military but more psychological. Interestingly, Terrien responds by questioning the nature of Algeria with regards to France. If Algeria is France, then why are Algerians not treated equally as French citizens? The captain replies, You ll come around, just like we all did. The nature and system of the conflict was the issue, not the actual atrocities committed by both sides. Those wrongful attacks or methods were results of the main political differences of the French and Algerians. For me, I wonder if France truly tried to assimilate Algeria and give Algerians the same citizenship and rights as Frenchmen, would the FLN be this violent and adamant about independence? High School Government And Politics Class I remember a mixture of enthusiasm and dread prior to a visit from a Pennsylvania state representative to my high school government and politics class. We were discussing local educational funding and I had many questions for him about the topic. But more than anything I did not want to embarrass myself. I went to bed early the previous night, and before class I guzzled two cans of Monster energy drink. There was a safety pin in my pocket just in case. The first few minutes of class I felt euphoric and was enthralled with the discussion on the local political landscape. However, my energy quickly began to drain. I tried to focus on my notes but after a half hour I was barely able to grip my pencil and saw that much of what I had written was incoherent scribble. In desperation, I took the safety pin out of my pocket and frantically began stabbing the palm of my hand. My efforts were for naught, because at some point I completely fell asleep only to wake up five minutes before the lecture was over. This was a common occurrence throughout my high schoolcareer but I was not correctly diagnosed with narcolepsy until the spring of my senior year. As a result, much of my college experience was spent adjusting to life with this diagnosis. The novel, The Watsons go to Birmingham 1963, by Christopher Paul Curtis is about a black family called the Watsons who go on a trip from Flint, Michigan all the way to Birmingham, Alabama to visit their relative. But they quickly learn that the rules in Birmingham are a lot different than the ones in Flint. How this is connected is because the two siblings, Kenny and Byron sometimes do fight a lot but then learn that while they do have differences, they also have similarities as well. This essay will be about Byron and Kenny s similarities and differences. One of the similarities that Byron and Kenny have are that they are both protective. Byron shows this trait when he makes up stories to try to convince Kenny and Joey to not do something dangerous like when he makes up the whole Wool Pooh story so Kenny and Joey won t go swimming in a dangerous lake. • 16. Analysis Of Revelation By Liz Lochhead The poem Revelation, by Liz Lochead, is a gripping story about a chance encounter that leads the reader into a deeper understanding of the poem s underlying theme. The poem focuses on a girl who is visiting a farm and is given the opportunity to see a bull that is kept out of sight. Lochhead manages to grasp the reader s imagination by the use of wordchoice, sentence structure, imagery and personification. This allows the reader to visualize the recurring theme of sexual awakening within the poem. Liz Lochhead, creates a deeper understanding of the poem s theme by her word choice, which helps explain the events leading up to the young girls encounter with the bull. She uses the word threshold , which describes the girl standing at the opening of the barn. The word has connotations of a crossover from innocence to experience. At this point in time the girl is standing at the edge of purity, about to step over to the other side revealing something unknown to her. This describes to the reader that she has reached the stage in her life where she is ready to be exposed to her sexual awakening and the evil that is prominent in the world. The writer then builds on this motif by the way she structures the poem in the lead up to the girl meeting the bull. In stanza one she adds the hot reek of him. Then he was immense . The use of the caesura adds a dramatic effect to the poem causing the reader to pause, instilling fear. It makes the reader realise that this isn t just a chance encounter after all, as it has a great impact on the young girl. From this one encounter the girl remembers the bull s overwhelming smell body heat. This explains, further, that the girl is no longer at a stage of innocence. She has been introduced to the fear and dread that surrounds her, that she was once oblivious too. The use of imagery throughout the poem also helps the reader gain a further insight to the underlying meaning. She uses imagery particularly well when the girl has experienced the bull. Lockheed uses the words darkness roar to describe the bull in more detail. Although, this helps the reader create the image of the bull, the words also portray thoughts of the dread and panic the girl has over this new chapter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. How The Romans Built Aqueducts Ancient Romans have had a huge impact on influencing modern civilizations, through several factors ranging from architecture to literature to engineering. The Romans engineering skills contributed greatly to the establishment of their civilization. Their bridges and roads tied their empire together and made travel easier especially for merchants and soldiers. But it is the Romans water system of that set them as an advanced and modern civilization. The Romans were very skilled architects to an extent that some of their work, such as aqueducts, is still in existence. Some aqueducts are even still in use by modern day societies to supply fountains with water. An aqueduct is a water supply or navigable channel constructed to convey water. Since water is one of life s most important necessities, the ancient Romans built aqueducts in all parts of their empire making it way easier to transport and provide the empire with water. The water provided by the aqueducts was used for different purposes which include mining, processing, manufacturing, agriculture, supplying public baths, latrines, fountains and private households with water. But once aqueduct water was brought to the city s higher elevations, well appointed public baths got widespread throughout the city, and drinking water could be delivered to public fountains. Public baths and fountains became distinctive features of the Roman Empire, and in particular the baths became important social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Act Of Demobilisation By George Mosses The act of demobilisation involves the standing down of armed troops. In the case of the loss of the First World War, once the armistice was signed, Germany needed to return their forces home from the Eastern and Western fronts. No formal plan took place, but a speedy operation ensued to try and avoid disgruntled and agitated soldiers. Some historians such as Detlev Peukert and Richard Bessel would agree in the successfulness of the act of demobilising the German troops, commenting that, The first phase of demobilization went through astonishingly smoothly. However, a glance at home and the private sphere shows that demobilisation was a far more contested process. As Maureen Healy would argue, civilizing the soldier was not as simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the German defeat, plans for a gradual demobilisation, as drawn up in 1916, were forgotten about. The terms of the armistice treaty stated all German troops must be returned home within 31 days, which was accepted and a speedy demobilisation was further encouraged with the soldiers determination to be home for Christmas; ...the troops could think of only one thing : we want to be at home for Christmas. Because of this urging desire to get home as quickly as possible, many soldiers decidedly made their own journeys home, which was found to be not as chaotic as expected, but actually made the process of demobilisation easier, as Bessel insinuates, Rather than make more difficult the task of getting the soldiers back home, it may have done just the opposite. Therefore, with the means of demobilising the troops being simplified in such a way, and quickly acted upon, the course of returning the soldiers home was surprisingly successful, especially after considering the demoralised and hurried nature of the process. However, this is not all that should be considered when contemplating the demobilisation of the German soldiers. Although the act of bringing the soldiers back from the Western and Eastern fronts was seemingly effective, introducing them into society can be construed differently; as highlighted by Maureen Healy Demobilization did not take place at the instant when a man was discharged from ... • 20. The Mongol Empire By 1260, the Mongol Empire extended from the Siberian forests to the Yellow Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean coast. The vast expanse of land the Mongols ruled over made it difficult for leaders to quickly relay orders to troops making advances on several fronts and to communicate other information, edicts, and laws. To combat the inefficient communication, the Yam system was developed under Chinggis Khan s rule and was officially established under Ogodei Khan. The network included post houses located every few miles, between which messengers would ride their horses pass off the messages to each other. When Marco Polo traveled in the Mongol Empire in the thirteenth century, he claimed that the Mongols maintained up to 10,000 relay stations and 200,000 horses in the Yam (Strayer 347). Each messenger was considered an official representative of the Great Khan, and was eventually issued a tablet called a paiza. The paizas were used to distinguish messengers carrying out orders from unauthorized merchants and traders who were not granted the use of the stations. Through this simple yet massive communication system, messages that normally required weeks to transport now took only a few days to cross thousands of miles. By speeding up communication, the Great Khan could give orders and receive reports rapidly, increasing the efficiency and accuracy of their military attacks and the rate of implementing new government structures in conquered territories. They weren t like many other parents however because they would do anything for me, and the reason they worked so hard was for our family to live a better life. One amazing thing came out of my parents working was that I got to spend tons of time with my grandparents. I have a bond with them that I don t believe anyone else could have with their grandparents. They would bring me to so many places like to museums and to the botanic gardens, and we would have a blast. I remember a time when I was only three, and they had picked me up from drama class. I had assigned them characters and we went to my house and put on a big show. That s when I realized how much I liked acting and writing. We would do new shows every day together. In our society, all crimes have punishments; however, the punishment depends on the severity of the crime. In our culture, it is important to have consequences following deplorable actions because if there is no discipline for poor decisions it would establish these poor decisions to be acceptable. For one thing, out of the one hundred and eight suitors total not even half of them participated in shenanigans that kept reoccurring. Not all of them deserved to die. Many were bystanders, but they still did not choose to leave after being warned. Antinous, the corrupt leader of the suitors, was malicious, impolite, and disrespectful. He set the tone for the rest of the suitors and many of the suitors followed his lead. Since they had a cruel, harsh leader the suitors also acted like this. Lastly, the most extreme form of punishment is death. While suitors were begging for forgiveness, Odysseus showed no mercy and slaughtered all of them. As stated above, there are many reasons why a reader would pick either side of this argument. Omen s are not meant to be taken lightly. The key values of the Fairtrade movement include five values that the Fair Trade Movement are committed to which are: People First, Excellence, Integrity, Respect, and Passion (Fair Trade Canada). In terms of people, the Fairtrade movement focuses their goal around promoting and improving the wellbeing of people such as farmers, workers and other members of small scale, or local businesses. Secondly, for integrity they try to be as honest, ethical and transparent as possible as they are accountable to their stakeholders (Fair Trade Canada). The carbon dioxide capture using nanostructured membranes is also another way to check the vehicle emissions. In this method single gas separation experiments were carried out using silica modified membranes to study the behavior of individual gas permeation at different pressures and temperatures. 1. Working of nanostructures membranes in capturing CO2 emission. Design and fabrication of porous membranes comprises of many layers of different materials namely: Aluminium Oxide (Al2O3), Titanium Oxide (TiO2), Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2), Silicon Dioxide (SiO2), Silicon Carbide, Zeolite, or a mixture of two materials applied on an underlying porous stainless steel. The manner in which gas molecules flow is generally influenced by three factors: The gas properties, morphology of the membrane and the material used for membrane design. The technology is environment friendly, quite economical and efficient. It is applicable to all forms of CO2 removal from other gases. De Lesseps rejected all of the plans because they required tunnels and locks to be built. De Lesseps prefered to build a sea level canal like the Suez Canal. Wyse went back to the isthmus on December 6, 1877. He explored two routes in Panama, one through Nicaragua and one through Panama. In the end he chose the Panamanian route, which would be sea level. The route would follow the Panama Railroad and require a 7,720 meter long tunnel through the Continental Divide at Culebra. He traveled to Bogota and the Colombian government signed a treaty on March 20th, 1878 that granted rights to build the canal through Panama, then part of Colombia. The treaty promised Colombia ownership of the canal after 99 years. It was estimated to take six years and $240 million. The digging started the first day of 1880 By March 1883, construction was behind schedule and 660,000 out the promised 5,000,000 cubic meters have been excavated. After visiting Panama in 1886, De Lesseps claims construction will be done by July 1889. Later that year, only a few feet out of hundreds have been removed from the Culebra Cut. De Lesseps hired ... • 47. Colonial Development, Colonialism, Colonialism And... What is the relation between colonial experience and economic development? Answer by way of discussing colonialism, modernisation and economic development. Introduction 300 There is a distinct relationship between a nation s economic development and its historical colonial experiences. For centuries, colonial rulers, primarily from Europe, spread throughout the world, across the Americas, in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and began to transform the very fabric of a number of populations and thriving nations. Colonising nations introduced a plethora of technologies and took modern approaches to the integration into the global economy, which made substantial changes to the development of a large number of colonised countries. On the other hand, the monopolisation and exploitation of these cultures and economies spurred centuries of oppression and crippled the development of what has become known as the Global South. For many nations, the redirection of wealth and resources to the benefit of colonial nations triggered the end of economic success for what are now known as developing nations and caused massive inequality and social disparity for entire populations. In India, expected economic success was significantly stalled by European colonisers, with key aspects of its society and livelihood destroyed by foreign intervention. As a result, the nation was hurled backwards and its economic development was held at a standstill, consequently subjecting the local population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Upward social comparison I participated in a panel discussing the benefits of advanced placement classes. I discussed how it made me work harder, I wanted to be at what I perceived was a higher level. The example in the book mentioned studies of people using upward social comparison to motivate themselves to success (pg. 86). As mentioned by the text upwards social comparison can be a positive tool for motivation. The textbook also spoke about the dangers of comparing yourself with others if a person does not believe they can reach what they are aspiring to be. I recognize what the danger in upward social comparison could be, it would be hard to process failure if you lived your entire life comparing yourself to others. A believer can tell someone about their horrible past, but if they did not know the believer before they were a believer, the testimony could fall flat. Additionally, it is an non provable method, since it is a personal feeling or experience the person is describing, not concrete proof. Finally, there is an issue with duplication by other religions, meaning that other religious believers have a testimony and experience to share, as well. Relying solely on the experiential apologetics leaves the apologist open to a myriad of problems with proof and deniability of their testimony. CONCLUSION Experiential apologetics proposes that knowledge of God and his grace has to come from a personal experience which then leads to acceptance of God s truth expressed in the Scriptures. This personal experience may come from a testimony of a believer to an unbeliever, or through direct experience of a non believer causing them to become a believer. While several proponents of this method have developed different interpretations of the form over time, the basic principle still remains valid that a shared experience can help to save a lost soul. Although experiential apologetics are considered one of the personal and intimate forms of apologetics, it is also considered one of the weakest forms due to

These include, free mobility between member states as you can work, study and travel wherever you please within the European union. Also, as per occupytheory.org, over 3.5 million jobs have been created for the 320 million European citizens just over the last few years. The Constitution Act Of 1982 The Constitution Act of 1982, or more commonly known as, The Charter of Rights and Freedoms, constitutionally entrenched fundamental civil liberties, which have protected Canadians from both federal and provincial legislative imposition. Since the Charter s inception, however, Canada s judiciary has been placed under great criticism and scrutiny due to the fact that the courts were believed to have been given legislative powers that rivaled both the federal and provincial legislatures. Through Judicial Review, the Supreme Court of Canada was given the task to interpret the charter since that wording of the legal document itself was vague enough to warrant interpretation, and hence, gave critics a reason to believe that supreme court justices have been the power to legislate without any political or public recourse. Unfortunately, as a result of these criticisms, various public notions, such as appointed and not duly elected Supreme Court justices with the ability to legislate, became the main focus in questioning whether the supreme court s institutional functions were legitimate, and in tandem with the principles of a free and democratic society.
