St. Joseph Hospital Case Study
From the St. Joseph Health career website, I was delighted to learn about the Clinical Nurse I position
at St. Joseph Hospital. I am highly interested in the position and fascinated about having the
opportunity to incorporate spirituality and faith into my nursing practice. Saint Joseph Hospital s
strong faith based culture has built an environment of healing, compassion, and high quality care, and
it is this unique culture that appeals to me the most. I know my strong nursing education, bilingual
skills, and community experiences make a well qualified candidate for the position. I obtained my RN

The Slavery Of The North And South Between 1700 And 1799
In the Western countries including America, most of the nations incorporated provisions for slavery
within their structure of governance. As slavery took roots in the North and South between 1700 and
1799, it influenced political, social and economic structures of the two regions throughout the 18th
century. Towards the end of 17th century, European masters embarked on granting independence to
their colonies. As the European colonies in the North gained independence, residents of the
independent states acquired cheap land that was left by their colonial masters. As workers were
needed to work on the land and build new towns, some of the families sold some of their children to
provide labor (Goldin, Cameron Balarajan, 2011). Furthermore, during the time of colonization,
American colonies in the North recognized compulsory labor; thus prompting most of the masters to
hire fellow Americans or Europeans as laborers. Although some of the Africans provided labor in the
North during this time, the colonial government did not recognize perpetual servitude for the Africans.
However, with the decline in the number of laborers, the colonial government was quick to pass a law
that contributed to the enslavement of Africans and their children residing in the North. Furthermore,
by 1700, most of the states in the North adopted laws aimed at regulating slaves and servants (Morris,
1999). According to research, the Dutch and English masters played a significant role in enslaving

The Lion And The Mouse Pinkney
In the story, The Lion and The Mouse by Jerry Pinkney; it has an extremely strong moral which is,
don t judge a book by its cover. In this story the lion spares the mouse s life and in return the mouse
saves the lion s life. The author demonstrated this when even though the lion thought the mouse was
to small to amount to anything the mouse proved him wrong by saving his life. The author did this to
show that even a tiny mouse could make a huge difference to a giant lion. Another lesson is that if you
are nice to people then people will be nice to you. This story has always been told with different
variations but in the end the moral would always be either don t judge a book by its cover or treat
others the way you would want to

Meiji Reforms Essay
Evaluate the success of the Meiji Reforms in undertaking imperialism in Asia. The Meiji reforms were
significantly successful in undertaking imperialism in Asia. Imperialism can be understood as
expanding a country s power through increasing one s influence, gaining more territory and
controlling the region s economy. For japan to undertake imperialism in Asia they needed to establish
a centralised government, a strong military, a technologically advanced and unified nation working
together for the same goal. They achieved this by introducing the Meji reforms. From 1868 to 1912,
Japan grew from a technologically backwards nation to a world power, defeating both China and
Russia swiftly and decisively. In addition to this, Japan had succeeded in establishing a parliament,
drafting a constitution, developed a strong legal, financial and economic system, created a strong
industry and improved social welfare and education standards. These improvements and
implementations made Japan internationally recognised and respected as a modernised country.
Looking back, we can identify numerous reasons that led to the success of undertaking imperialism in
Asia through the use of the Meiji reforms. The military reform had a significant role in undertaking
imperialism in Asia. The military reform of Meiji Japan was focused on establishing a powerful and
unified national military under the ultimate leadership of the emperor. To achieve this, the Meiji
government created equality among

Motives And Motives In Hamlet
No, No, the drink, the drink! O my dear Hamlet! The drink, the drink! I am poison d! . (Act 5 Scene 2
line 302 304) This was a line exclaimed by Gertrude, the mother Hamlet before she deceased in the
ballroom of the castle. Death is a common attribute to appear in Hamlet because throughout the whole
play characters are continuing to pass due to quite violent reasons such as murder or suicide. After a
character passes it is those left in the play that have to cope and react. A motive is a reason for doing
something, especially one that is hidden or not obvious. This causes many different motives and
actions for each individual character. Looking into the play Hamlet written by William Shakespeare,
three characters stand out that have lost their father: Fortinbras, Laertes, and Hamlet. All three of these
men have reacted differently to their loss based on their relationships and motives. This drives their
emotions and actions throughout the play and ultimately decides the fate of many individuals. Since
the beginning of the play straight from act one Fortinbras has never had a father as he was murdered
by King Hamlet. This although sends a spike of ambition and motivation into Young Fortinbras. He
now has the motive to take over land as it is his duty to avenge his father s death. Since one of
Fortinbras uncles told him he could not takeover Denmark because it was rightfully lost and King
Hamlet still lived. This motive is so strong that it creates actions such as trying to conquer Poland
instead. By doing this aswell it sends rumors and fear into Denmark. Those forsaid lands, so by his
father lost and this I take it is the main motive of our preparations. Horatio (Act one scene one line
103 104) Fortinbras is filled with aggression and passion to fulfill his father s death with victory and
prosperity. The motive of Fortinbras is to ensure that he fills his duty as son to the king by continuing
to run the country while winning battles to prove that the country is not weak. The country is still
strong and ready to fight for what had been taken from them. While in Poland although they did not
conquer a whole bunch and had paid more in what it was worth this does not stop this motive from

The New York City Water System

The New York City Water System Then and Now
New York City has one of the most top quality drinking water and is called the champagne of drinking
water [13] which is due to its unique water treatment system that consists of a vast reservoir system. A
reservoir is a natural or artificial source of untreated water that can be found underground or at ground
level that can include water treatment and associated equipment (pumps and piping systems).[1] There
are three major watershed systems in which New York receives its water which are The Croton
System, The Catskill System, The Delaware System. The reservoir systems pump approximately 1.1
billion gallons of fresh and clean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further population increase and the expansion of New York City to include five boroughs amplified
the need for more clean water circulation. In order to find new water sources the Board of Water
Supply built facilities in four watersheds that is now known as the Catskill System (which includes the
Ashokan Reservoir and Catskill Aqueduct). The Delaware System was fully constructed in 1944
which receives water from the Delaware River tributary. Located in current day New York Public
Library there once housed one of NYC s main water supply systems called the Croton Reservoir
(Murray hill reservoir). Built in 1842 in a style of an Egyptian Cornice it had an area of four acres and
held a capacity of 20 million gallons. As a result increases in population between 1840 and 1870 other
reservoir system were built in place of the Croton Reservoir and it was shut down in 1890.[4]
NYC Reservoirs today
The NYC drinking water system is gravity driven and is sourced from 19 reservoirs and three
controlled lakes in a 1,972 sq mi watershed and has a storage capacity of roughly 580 billion gallons.
[5] During drought water is exchanged from one water system to the other.
The Croton System has 12 reservoirs and three controlled lakes that are positioned in Westchester,
Putnam and Duchess Counties. The newest Croton Reservoir

How Are Soldiers Different From Civil War
There are many ways that soldiers lives are the same and different from the civil war and the wars that
we fight today. Soldiers back in the older wars had very hard times dealing with injuries and going
home after the. We still have that problem today with our soldiers but we have better ways to deal with
it. Today for soldiers we have people that soldiers can come and talk to about what happened while
they were over there and to help them feel better. Also we have trainers that will come to homes to
help them get back on their feet if they were injured in the war. There are so many more ways to help

back home also support there troops a lot. So

Ergogenic Aids Essay
Ergogenic aids are substances or devices that enhance energy production, for use for recovery and
provide athletes with a competitive advantage. Numerous ergogenic aids claim to enhance sports
performance and are used by amateur and professional athletes. Approximately 50 percent of the
general population has reported taking some form of dietary supplements, while 76 to 100 percent of
athletes in some sports are reported to use them. Physicians can evaluate these products by examining

taking testosterone than in the groups taking placebo. The subjects in the exercise plus testosterone

Lola Lola Meaning
From a respected professor to a cabaret clown, this film follows a cabaret dancer, Lola Lola, who has
total control over her spectators. The film does an excellent job of showing us what to expect from the
plot early on at the beginning of the film. Through the opening scene one can fully interpret the film
as a whole through the various clues left for the viewer. The very first scene focuses on the tops of
buildings and houses where some of theses structures are distorted in the expressionist way. The
building in the very back appears to be a church or synagogue or some sort. The church being depicted
can be associated with morality which is a constant theme being shown through the characters in the
film. Morality in this film is very present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a sound inserted when the viewer is exposed to Lola Lola as a woman opens up the curtain
for the storefront. The opening of the storefront can be representative of the opening of the curtain at
the cabaret performances, when Lola Lola steps on stage. The poster on the storefront window is also
displayed from the inside out. Those who view the poster can only visually see it. They cannot touch it
nor grab the poster. They can only simply admire it from the outside. This is representative of Lola
Lola and her performances, where the spectators are only there to see. There is no physical interaction
with any of the girls in the cabaret performances, which is represented through how the poster is
displayed only for the eye. The poster is also an unrealistic image of Lola Lola, showing how she
artificially is. The poster of Lola Lola is looking up at her like if she was a goddess. Her long legs
make up more than half of the poster showing that she is up on some pedestal from everyone else.
There are some clouds behind her to show that being with her or around her is like being up in heaven.
There are also what appear to be two little cupids tugging at her from opposite ends. They are
representative of the amounts of men that want her and try to do the most for her. They are also shown
as childlike to depict the behaviors the men have when they are with her. As if they were to lose
themselves, to her just like Dr. Rath did. He completely forgot who he was and how he comported
himself in society. He lived for her and even became part of her show to be with her. The film shows
how people laughed at him for completely losing it over a woman, something that for time has been
inferior to men. Even in present day, women are still given the short end of everything and seen as
inferior. The fact that the professor lost it all over a women represent those men who

8th Amendment: Protection for Domestic and Foreign Terrorist
Our forefathers who wrote the Declaration of Independence and served the people from their states
came together to form ideas and write a Constitution that would protect the people, property and their
rights as citizen of the United States. These two documents are what we were founded on. The simple
version of the 8th Amendment, Prohibits the federal government from imposing excessive bail, nor

Testimony coerced through humiliating, degrading treatment would be admissible (How 9 11 Changed
the Law, Privacy, Profiling and Free Speech, 2011).
Part of the act was rewritten making soldiers no longer subject to legal prosecution under United
States law for what, before the amendment, was defined as a war crime, such as torture (Wikipedia).
The Patriot Act in 2010 added criminalization of pure speech in furtherance of the non criminal acts of
terrorist groups (How 9 11 changed the Law, Privacy, Profiling and Free Speech, 2011.
The coercion and torturing captured terrorist is needed to protect national security in the war against
terrorism. There are numerous justifications why the coercion or torture of terrorist is normally a
lesser evil than the preventable mass murder of innocent victims (Slater, Summer 2006).
With all the new legislation and measures need for the protection of the American people does this
mean we are going to become as barbaric as a foreign country? Do we really need to torture people
until they are willing to give up information? Do we need to spy on our own people? As with any
additional legislation it gives the government a broader chance of spying on its people and taking
away a right to privacy. Slowly the people s rights are being replaced with the government s need to
control.

Importance Of Self Love And Body Positivity
Self love and body positivity, are the two subjects I have struggled with since last year. Self love is
when you have a positive view of yourself and are confident in yourself. And body positivity is
forgiving and affirming towards your body. There was a time when I used to not care what I looked
like. I wouldn t care if I had a noticeable blemish my face, had rolls of flesh showing, or ate an entire
batch of cookies by myself. But somehow, one day everything changed.
For the longest time I wasn t proud of how I looked. The fact that I have glasses and have loads of
acne around my face, wasn t helping. I remember looking at the girls at school and wondering how
they have smooth skin, and why they are so beautiful. You have no idea how countless times I typed
How to clear acne in the google search bar. And even spent time daydreaming how I would be treated
differently if I obtain contacts and be beautiful. My friends would say I was lovely appealing gorgeous
etc. I never believed I was any of those words. Thinking of changing my appearance so I can be
accepted by others was something I sadly thought was true. I feel embarrassed that I even had that
mindset. Now. I feel positive about my appearance. I realized having acne is part of being a teen, and I
have now accepted that wearing glasses add character and it s different.
On the top of that, I was never satisfied with my body image. I would stand in front of the mirror and
judge every aspect of my body, specifically my stomach. I want to be skinny, I want ABS, I want my
collar bones to be noticeable. I would weigh myself all the time. I hate to admit it, but I have a fear of
being overweight like the people in My 600 Pound Life. In addition seeing models like Gigi Hadid
and Kendall Jenner, I couldn t help but feel envious of how perfect their bodies are. And hearing girls
at school say they weigh 122 or 107 pounds, while I m over here weighing more than that. Also, I
would feel self conscious when changing into my PE clothes in the girls locker room. That I would
head into the bathroom stall to dress up in there considering I didn t want my classmates to examine
my body. I still struggle to form my body the best it can be.

Research Paper On Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin:
Charles darwin was born on February 1809 and he is famous for his theory of evolution. The premise
of this theory was related to all of life. This states that evolution changes occur after vary generations
and different survival have different combinations. Charles claimed the offspring of something would
also gain what its parent s had as an advantage(If they had wings so would the offspring). The
disadvantages would occasionally die out from offspring to offspring. Charles helped us think about

Love and friendship are a major theme in the course of the book, The Sun Also Rises by Ernest

France through his protagonist Jake Barnes. To show the importance of his characters, the lost

Due to postwar times, the relationships between Jake and his lover Brett, his friend Bill, and

The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment
The Age of Enlightenment was an intellectual and scientific movement which is characterized by its
rational and scientific approach to religious, social, political, and economic issues. Enlightenment
ideals challenged the way people were taught to think and let them express their criticism of the
church, the monarchy or whatever system they saw as unjust. The impact of the enlightenment
movement was first seen in 18th century Europe and soon spread to different parts of the world.
People who believed in these ideals were called enlightenment thinkers. Enlightenment thinkers were
a voice for the masses who felt they were being manipulated by people holding all the power. It also
helped the masses realize that they did not need the church or monarchy, and enlightenment thinkers
were able to assemble a following to stop people of power taking advantage of those who were not
quite as powerful. Enlightenment thinkers gave an outlet to the common citizen who were seeing
injustices in their government system. Enlightenment ideals caused a domino effect. Throughout
history, we saw that the more the enlightenment ideals spread the more people stood up to their
oppressors. It first started with the Renaissance this was a time when interest in knowledge and
learning was reborn after the middle ages (Szalay). Then came The Protestant Reformation. The
Protestant Reformation was the religious, political, intellectual and cultural movement that spread

Content Marketing Is Nothing New Essay
Content marketing is nothing new. The first commercial website started back in 1993, so we ve had
nearly a quarter of a century to refine its application. That s why it s so surprising that of the 86
percent of marketers using content marketing, only 32 percent find it effective.
Part of the problem is output. The occasional blog post won t even begin to make a splash in the sea of
online content. And without any consistency, it s difficult to gain enough traction to engage
consumers.
There s also the issue of readers. Many marketers don t take the time to define their audiences beyond
the basic demographics. Just because someone falls within a certain age range, makes a certain
amount of money, and lives within a certain community doesn t mean he or she wants anything to do
with your content or product, for that matter.
For content to be effective, you need to know who you re talking to. You need to know what type of
content your readers want at each stage of the buying process and create an experience that seamlessly
supplies them with credible content. You must develop a plan for creating and pushing out a content
experience that will truly engage them.
Luckily, you don t have to do it alone. Plenty of tools exist to help you not only develop the right
content, but also tee that content up to be found. The following four tools can help you focus your

The first formal small jazz concert was held at the Maum Café on Sep. 25th, 2008. There were many
music performances have held at the Maum Café but Zino Park, leader of the band, and manager of
Maum Café agreed to arrange a formal jazz concert for the first time. The main theme of this concert
was Smooth Jazz with Zino Park at Maum . Before the concert began, the band members introduced
themselves to the audience. The names of players were:
Acoustic guitar by Jerry, vocal piano by Zino Park, bass guitar by Clay Luna, vocal guitar by Zen,
guitar saxophone by Dan Stark, drum by Skip Mccain, and harp by Monica.

Zino Park used keyboard instead of piano because keyboard could play with many different sound
effects. The title of the fourth song was called, Let s get away from it all . In their fourth song again,
saxophone was played a huge role. From the beginning of the song piano kept playing same melody
line repeated and saxophone was moving wide range of notes and pitch. The rhythm and the tempo of
drum changed as saxophone changed rhythm and the tempo. The bass guitar helped drum to follow
saxophone s rhythm and tempo. The saxophone style was kind of similar with the how Louis
Armstrong was playing a solo. There were two guitars, but saxophone dominated other instruments
and it was difficult to hear other instruments. The fifth song was hand drummer used sand rattler
instead of hand drum. The drum solo in this song was very powerful and brought the exhilaration of
this concert to the climax. The change of unpredictable rhythm and tempo made audience excited.
Many audiences were clapping with rhythm. The sixth song was in blues style. The Name of the Song
was, I ll see you in my dreams . Just bass guitar, saxophone, drum, and keyboard were playing. It was
short piece song but just enough time to feel blues. This piece was one of few slow tempo songs in
this concert. The mix of bass guitar, saxophone, drum, and keyboard articulated

Peculiarities And Characteristics Of MTO Companies
MTO companies typically allow consumers to purchase products that are customized to their
specifications. MTO strategy only manufactures the end product after getting confirmation from the
customers. Unlike mass production where a material is manufactured many times, in MTO production
a material is created only once though the production process that might be repeated at a later time. As
a result, the consumer waiting time to receive the product increases but it allows more flexibility in
customization compared to purchasing from retailers shelves (Zhang et al., 2012). According to Muda
et al. (2009), MTO companies can be classified by the following two types
(a) Companies where a small quantity of products with a large number of different characteristics are
manufactured.
(b) Companies where a product has to be assembled particularly for a sales order. As demand for
specialized products increases, the MTO strategy becomes more popular among the companies.
Nowadays, even for standard products, manufacturers are willing to shift their production from
traditional concept to MTO or a hybrid production system to achieve shorter production cycle times
(Su et al., 2010).

It is possible to point out 3 main distinctive characteristics to describe MTO companies. The first one
is the product customization i.e. very low repetitiveness of production (Kingsman and Mercer, 1997;

implies to order production logics. The second one is the organization for technological competences,
i.e. with a functional logic (Hendry et al., 2008). The third characteristic is related with the company
size, both in terms of number of employees and in annual turnover (Hendry et al., 2008) and in terms

Summary Of Hard Times By Charles Dickens
Angelina Almanzar
ENGL 35701: 19th Century British Novel
Professor Elizabeth Weybright
27 June 2016
Utilitarianism in Hard Times
During the Victorian Era, many philosophers focused on utilitarian philosophy and ways of thinking,
choosing the best decisions and actions for their own self interest. In his novel, Hard Times, Charles
Dickens satirizes the English educational system, society, and economics, but most importantly,
through them, he criticizes the many abuses of utilitarianism. Many writers such as Bornali Nath
Dowerah and Ali Taghizadeh have done research on Dicken s work mostly focusing on utilitarianism
and its negative impacts on society especially on those of the lower class.
Charles Dickens, the most renowned social commentator of his time, criticized the ills of society as he
commiserates with those who were affected the most by social and economical abuses. According to
the article Charles Dickens as Social Commentator and Critic published on the Victorian Web
(www.victorianweb.org/authors/dickens/diniejko.html), Dickens was not only very successful in
exposing what was wrong with society, but also in exposing the ills of the utilitarian theory which at
the time rejected the human imagination or fancy. Utilitarianism is an ethical theory which as we may
know recommends ethical recommendations for everyday life, thus making hard decision making
easier for us. This theory mostly focuses on moral action, holding on to the belief that people s

The Political Stage Of Mr. Gandhi
The time lapse between 1919 1939 saw the rise of a man, soon to be known for his unique approach
towards politics. This man, Ghandi, brought about a movement that started a ripple that would soon
turn into a huge tide of anarchy for the Brits. His politics promoted the concept of Swaraj Self Rule
and ignited the flare for nationalism. This time period also saw the Muslims and Hindus coming
together for a common purpose.
The purpose of this paper is to give a clear idea of what politics was like back in that time in India.
This piece will use a sequential approach of events leading up to the arrival of Mr. Gandhi on the
political stage followed by an exploration into his endeavors and efforts to bring about a revolution
that proved to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before proceeding, let s have a quick look at the local s attitude towards the British. The state after the
World War 1 was that of a rule without order, trust or sense of unity. In the state of war emergency, the
British passed a bill, Rowlett Act, which allowed them to arrest and detain an individual without a
proper trial. Obvious as it should be, there were huge protests against this insane bill, violating basic
human rights. One dreadful event that was written down in history with blood came about in these
times. On April 13th 1919, General Reginald Dyer took it upon himself to disperse a peaceful protest
in enclosed space called the Jallianwalla Bagh in Amritsar. 370 protestors were killed and 1000 were
wounded though some argue figures were much higher. What was further disconcerting was General
Dyer s lack of remorse or repent. On his return home he was lauded and awarded as opposed to being
held accountable for his actions . This added fuel to the fire, and the resent towards the British started
gaining popularity and the Indians decided they had had enough. They refused to stand by and watch
themselves being toyed around like puppets and being ridiculed not to forget tortured like animals.
It was during these times of unrest that M.K Gandhi made his presence for the first time. He travelled
back to India from South Africa. He was recorded having said that he could no longer agree with a

Comparing the Three Proposals that Elizabeth Receives in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen s novel, Pride and Prejudice, contains many opinions given by the narrator about the
characters, but the true personalities are shown in the way their feelings and words are portrayed.
Austen uses dramatic irony to allow the reader to appreciate the hidden feelings of the characters. The
unseen feelings of Elizabeth, Mr Darcy and Mr Collins are revealed to others in the novel during the
three proposals that occur.
There are a number of similarities between the first two proposals that Elizabeth receives. When Mr
Collins made his declaration of form he expects Elizabeth to say yes, as did Mr ... Show more content

Mr Darcy is also inconsiderate to Elizabeth. He tells her that in vain he has struggled against loving
her. He does not consider Elizabeth s feelings when he says this and that it will hurt her. Like Mr
Collins he refers to her inferiority and its being a degradation . Both Mr Collins and Mr Darcy s pride
shows when they are disrespectful towards Elizabeth because they believe themselves to be more
important her
During Mr Collins proposal he lists his personal reasons for marriage, and why she should say yes. He
does express reasons why Elizabeth would want to marry him, but Austen shows them as being false,
which makes him seem selfish. His first reason is to set an example for his parish, which makes him
appear pompous. It is ironic because marriage is meant to prove your love for each other, but he wants
to set an example to his parish without doing loving the person he intends to marry. Austen uses this to
emphasize his unintelligence, and lack of perception. He then tells her that it will add very greatly to
his happiness. He does not mention how Elizabeth would feel, and how he could make her happy. This
proves that he is selfish and only cares for himself. The last reason he gives, which he believes is the
most important, is that it is the

about the market share Fossil and Guess? Managed to be on the same level moving Swatch to number
three. Fossil did had some other competitors like Gucci, Anne Klein II etc but they could not come as
up as Guess and Swatch.

here as some of the fastest growing consumer markets already had their imprints in this area. Finally
they decided to enter into South America market with some new designs than to the existing ones. In
the early phase, sales were very low, but once they recruit the right distributor and retailer, Sales could

Product Development: Only producing millions of watches would not expand their business. This
made them feel to produce something different and hence they came up with an idea of producing
leather goods for men. Getting into leather products was again not so easy as competition was really
tough.

A. The future growth prospects for Fossil are many though competition is really tough. If they manage

Forensic Anthropology
Not many people realize that bones can talk, if you listen close enough and have the right education.
Forensic Anthropology is the study of talking bones or more properly as told by Burns (2013), the
discipline that applies the scientific knowledge of physical anthropology (and often archeology) to the
collection and analysis of legal evidence (p.3). This discipline brings together the fields of physical
anthropology, biology, and many other physical sciences to allow for the proper identification of
mostly human remains. The basis of forensic anthropology is to help solve cases using the extensive
knowledge of bones that has been built up over the years and is still being shaped today. The first

osteoarthritis is becoming present, if the line of fusion is visible or no longer noticeable and if the

Tort Reform in the Us
The Need for Tort Reform in the United States Tort law is a type of law that is designed to offer
remedies to civil wrongs. Unlike contractual damages that occur, where responsibility is
predetermined, tort law is designed for someone who is legally injured to be able to recover damages
from the person who is deemed legally responsible, or liable for such injuries. Tort law is broken
down into three main categories, negligence, strict liability, and intentional tort. In negligence tort one
is accused of causing damages through their carelessness. After accusation of negligence the plaintiff
must be able to show that the defendant had duty of care, and that a breach of duty had occurred that
caused the damages. Strict liability is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As aforementioned the severe costs of the American tort system have and are becoming more of a
burden on the economy. The effects do not only affect American families, but also businesses as they
have to pay higher insurance costs. Excessive litigation also hurts the economy by slowing down
productivity and growth due to the lack of risk taking which consequently slows down the
introduction of new technologies. Trying to tackle this problem is University of Virginia law professor
Jeffrey O Connell and Michael Horowitz of the Hudson Institute, who together have accumulated a
number of tort reform ideas that potentially eliminate the absurd incentives of tort law and result in
cast economic savings. The pair had three reform ideas. First is the auto choice reform which is
designed to make $40 million in savings available on auto insurance premiums. The desired result
from this reform would translate in a saving on a typical insurance premium of an average of $221.
The second (co authored by Professor Lester Brickman of the Cardozo Law School) is the
contingency fee reform. It is designed to appreciably lower attorney fees by $45 billion a year. It
would do this by paying the plaintiff s attorney the amount that they add to the client s settlement. This
is a sort of incentive plan that would give greater reason for the attorney to

Why Do Teens Turn To Drugs
Teenage brains are flooded with orders and rules from every direction, whether it is from peers,
parents, or teachers. Often times, the more that someone is pushed and forced in one direction, they
will go the other in defiance. This is never more present than in the teenage years: where emotions and
hormones are coursing through bodies at an all time high. When the pressure or influence becomes too
much, some teens turn to drugs and alcohol. Laws are then broken and the government must put into
place a system to fairly judge the juvenile crime. However, making it illegal does not stop minors
from accessing and using drugs. By understanding the consequences and addictions drugs bring,
discovering the accessibility of drugs to the youth, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Defiance, peer pressure, and curiosity all can lead to experimentation, but it is the psychological
effects and addictions that can keep a teen wanting more. This is not a new factor in the United States
and has been a battle for the government for many years. From the prohibition of alcohol, to
bootlegging, to the uplifting of prohibition, alcohol has proven to be impossible to get rid of. Just like
citizens of the past, teenagers are no exception to getting around the law to break it. However, the law
is there for a reason, because alcohol and drugs can have some very serious side effects and
consequences to the undeveloped, emotion controlled, teenage brain. Despite the repercussions, users
still have many tactics to acquire the drug of their choice. The government tries to prevent the sales of
drugs and alcohol to minors but there is only so much it can do past creating and attempting to enforce
laws. Where laws really come into play is when a minor gets caught with the possession of or being
under the influence of drugs. This is when the state has full control of punishing the offender or
deciding a proper course for the offender to follow. The punishments and programs can go a long way
and prevent the minor from using again but this is not ensured. No matter what, a teen will do what a
teen wants to do. If they once desired an effect, it is probable that they might want one again. Despite
every consequence, every law, and every punishment put into place by The United States government,
it can not and will not solve the drug and alcohol use problem of

Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese Private Firm Export Behaviors:Does
productivity counter the effect of institutional environment?
We introduce institutional environment as a measure of the degree to which policies and institutes in
one region differ from those in another region in china, where market are distorted across space and
region[1]. We employ a modified heterogeneous firm model developed by Mayer and Melitz et
al(2011)[12] to examine whether such institutional environment differences affect the firms export
behavior. Employing data for china firm level exports in 29 province for which measures of
institutional environment can be constructed, we find that better institutional environment enhances
firm s export behavior. This results holds for the low level of financial constrains firms, but are
reversed by the con export effect of productivity in the aggregate firms and the high level of financial
constraints firms. Productivity is found to exert a con export effect that completely offsets the trade
enhancing effects of institutional environment.
I. Introduction
Despite a voluminous literature on the impact of firm productivity on export behavior, the effects
that institutional environment differences among regions may have on firm s export behavior and the
extent to which productivity may counter these effects have received little attention. Institutional
environment difference is defined as the degree to which policies and regulations

Our Experiment to Separate a Mixture of Organic Compounds...
Purpose/Introduction
What were we trying to accomplish with this experiment? What method did we implement to
accomplish the task? What techniques were used to purify and identify the product(s) of the reaction?
In this experiment, an acid base extraction was done to separate a mixture of an unknown acid and
fluorene, a neutral compound. The possible unknown acids were 2 chlorobenzoic acid, 3
chlorobenzoic acid, and 3 methylbenzoic acid. The purification of the isolated unknown acid was
performed by recrystallization and its identity was established by analyzing the melting point range of
the pure product and comparing it to the provided standards. In addition, a mixed melting point

Initially, the organic carboxylic acid becomes a charged species after it is deprotonated by a base like
sodium hydroxide, producing a carboxylic salt. After completing the extraction, an acid, such as
hydrochloric acid, is added to the basic aqueous solution causing the sodium carboxylate salt to
change back to the default carboxylic acid, which will precipitate out of solution since it is water
insoluble. Recrystallization is a technique when a solute is dissolved in a hot solvent (destruction of
the impure crystal lattice) and is then precipitated out of solution as the solvent is immediately cooled
(selectively producing a purer lattice). The unknown acid was recrystallized using hot water followed
by hot ethanol in order to dissolve the solid, followed by cooling which resulted in the precipitation of
the desired product. Afterward, melting point experimentation was used to match the melting point
data of the unknown acid with the provided standards of the known acids. If there is a melting point
depression, one has acted as an impurity to the other compound. In contrast, if there is no noticeable
decrease in melting point relative to the two separate compounds; it is safe to say that they are the

The science that is connected with planet earth encompasses geosciences or earth science among
others. Containing old histories, this is considered as a part of planetary science while it possesses
holistic and reductionist approaches in the science of the planet Earth. This discipline can cope with
lithosphere, atmosphere, biosphere or hydrosphere. Quantitative understanding has been developed by
the scientists to understand the ground systems with the tools by mathematics, physics, chronology,
biology, chemistry alike that help to know how the universe is evolved.

According to a news release from NASA, coronal mass ejections caused by geomagnetic storms have
been enhanced in strength; as from G1 to G5, they were rated G3 in 2012. The earth planet is
surrounded and by bubbles of magnetic fields while rapid changes in the earth magnetosphere were
witnessed due to activities that happened on sun that caused a geomagnetic storm. With earth s
magnetic fields, coronal mass ejections were mingled; as a result, the wind became mild in intensity
reported in the month of March in the corresponding year (Philips, 2009).
On the other hand, the geomagnetic storms have been intensified and enhanced in their frequency as
magnetic fields of coronal mass ejections indulges with that of the earth that causes change of

Iranian Society Is Not A Country Of Fundamentalists And...
Iranian society is more complexed than what its face value portrays. The west tends to attach negative
associations with Iran and the rest of the middle east. The author writes that the purpose of her book is
to show that Iran is not a country of fundamentalists and terrorists, and that characterizations of the
country by the West are inaccurate. Satrapi s narrative does the Iranian society justice. It explains the
common misconceptions of Iran and its society by a first hand account, Marjane Satrapi. In the 1980 s,
politics was everything in Iran, it was the main topic of conversation. As a ten year old girl, the author
is forced to wear a veil to school by those that called for a cultural revolution in Iran. There are many
protests both for and against this cultural revolution. Her French non religious school is abolished and
boys and girls are separated for education. Her mother protests against the changes and her picture

This had been during a time when Western democratic ideals were being instituted in many countries

Characteristics Of Modern Christianity
1. A Unique and Important Practice in Modern Christianity
There are many Christian practices, all of the diversified importance to the lives of the believers of the
faith. These variegated practices are what differentiates Christians from people of other faiths, and
gives them autonomy. According to Craig Dykstra, Christian practices are not activities we do to make
something spiritual happen in our lives. Nor are they duties we undertake to be obedient to God.
Rather, they are patterns of communal action that create openings in our lives where the grace, mercy,
and presence of God may be made known to us (Spiritual Practices, n.d., p. 1).
Therefore, Christian practices are the daily engagements that believers of the faith undertake in line
with what is expected of them. This paper will discuss fasting as a practice in modern Christianity that
is unique and important to the faith of believers and will provide a summary describing fasting, how it
developed, and why it is significant in the lives of at least some contemporary Christians. In addition,
this paper will also discuss Evangelicalism as a movement within Christianity which started within the
past 200 years, having distinctive beliefs, and impact on modern and contemporary Christianity
(Christendom).
One practice in modern Christianity that is unique is fasting (Colbert, 2006). Often, fasting is related
to a person lacking or rather, doing without food, however, this is not the case. Through

Auditing is described as the independent examination of and expression of an opinion on the financial
statements of an enterprise by an appointed auditor in pursuance of that appointment and in
compliance with any relevant statutory obligation. Thus auditing of information systems can be
defined as independent examination of and expression of an opinion on the development,
documentation and controls of information systems of an enterprise by an appointed auditor in
pursuance of that appointment and in compliance with any relevant company requirement. The
purpose of an audit is not to provide additional information but rather it is intended to provide the
users of the systems with assurance that the information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and formulating the substantive tests to be carried out. * Carrying out substantive testing on the

Degree Programs
Topic: Degree Programs at Penn State Lehigh Valley Purpose: To inform the class about the degree
programs the Lehigh Valley campus has to offer. Central Idea: It is important to be educated about
what the degree programs entail. I believe that all of us are here for a reason. Every moment of our
lives has been set up to bring us to where we are now. At this very moment, we share something in
common. We are all Penn State students. Despite attending a commonwealth campus, our degrees
remain solely Penn State. But how much do you know about Penn State in its entirety. I m sure you all
know that Penn State offers an outstanding 160 degree programs. Two years of those programs can be

Course work emphasizes classroom applications in technology integration, diverse learning, and
accommodating students with special needs, and state and national education standards. Students can
also complete two years of course work at the Lehigh Valley campus before transferring to another
Penn State campus to complete the education degree. But what makes Penn State Lehigh Valley so
great? PSULV offers the opportunity to complete two years of your general education program here.
The general education program enables students to gain understanding of international
interdependence and cultural diversity and develop consideration for values, lifestyles, and traditions
that may differ from their own. Besides that, what else makes this campus two year degree program so
unique? Well, according to second year Communications and Media Studies student Emily Finnegan I
didn t think I was mature enough to live on my own and PSULV prepared me for Penn State main.
First year Biology student Lindelle George says I feel good attending Penn State Lehigh Valley
because they have so many opportunities. They offer a wide variety of classes and it feels more like a
community. I chose to get my biology degree from here because I really wanted to get a good
education from a great school. She jokes that in the

Dirt Biking
When you drive the powerful dirt bike you feel a vibration and you feel pressure that if you crash it s
over. Dirt Biking is exciting. Innumerable teens love extreme sports. Which are skateboarding,
mountain biking, dirt biking....etc. Many parents feel that extreme sports are not okay because there
children might get hurt a bit. I believe many teens should be able to succeed in extreme sports. Several
kids are drawn to extreme sports. Teens take risks. Scientists have learned that some teens crave
different experiences and they have a high tolerance for risk. Some studies show that risk increases

Mumbo Jumbo And Traditional Detective Fiction
Since the thesis is going to compare Mumbo Jumbo with the traditional detective fiction. It is needed
here that we should find a definition or standard for the so called traditional detective fiction .
Actually, the pattern of detective fiction is very rigid, allowing few variations from work to work. Two
of the most famous standards for classic detective fictions have been set forth by Ronald Knox and by
S.S.Van Dine (whose real name is Willard Huntington Wright). Ronald Knox is a British detective
story writer. He listed Ten Commandments for detective fictions in his introduction to The Best
[English] Detective Stories of 1928. Similarly, the American detective novelist S.S.Van Dine who is
the creator of Philo Vance (often cited as America s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of fiction highlighted the importance of psychological analysis of the culprits and other
characters. This kind of detective stories is much more violent and suspenseful than other types of
detective fictions. One pattern of this detective fiction of suspense is that: the hero or heroine must pit
his or her wit against the criminals or vicious power in a limited time, or the hero or heroine is certain
to die. The first work of this school is Eden Phillpotts s A Voice From the Dark, unlike most of the
detective novels before, Phillpotts abandoned the whodunit format, the identity of the culprit is
described at the beginning. The detective suffers from lacking enough evidence to bring the criminal
to justice. By tactfully using the criminal s psychological status, Phillpotts provided the reader a
wonderful psychological contest between the detective and the criminal. William Irish s Phantom
Lady and Cornell Woolrich s The Bride Wore Black also belongs to this

Healthcare Is Evolving And Applying New Innovations Into...
Healthcare is rapidly evolving and applying new innovations into its field. It now includes more
concepts that combine both information and technology, for example, the area of health information
technology (HIT). Health information technology is also known as health informatics and includes the
different areas of clinical specialties or diseases, user, agent, technology, and information level (Martin
Sanchez, Maojo, Lopez Campos, 2002). The field of bioinformatics fits into the category of health
information technology because it is a disciplinary field that involves both science/ health and
technology (Hoyt, 2010).
Bioinformatics is a field that combines, computer science with biological and biomedical sciences

The database must also be able to, accept, store, and manage molecular physiology data (Moore,
2007). In doing so, selecting the correct database is essential, and many companies choose to create
their own private database. However, the creation and use of public databases are on the rise. After all
the genetic information has been inputted into a database, it needs to be analyzed. Data analysis
consists of data mining and machine learning methods, through the use of high powered computers.
Data analysis is also used for identifying any bimolecular patterns in the observed outcome (Moore,
2007). In addition, data mining is then used to manage and study the genetic information. After all of
the analysis and studying, the interpretation of the information is what is most important. The
researchers need to be able to understand and comprehend what the data information signifies. From
there, bioinformatics can then be used for other various resources. For instance, bioinformatics can be
valuable in delivering therapeutics (Bioinformatics, 2000).
Bioinformatics is important because it allows researchers and scientists to study genetic information
and to be able to add to the database(s). Furthermore, it led to the emergence of computational
biology, in which researchers and scientists could interpret the genetic data (Hagen, 2000).
Computational biology involves the use of, algorithms and artificial intelligence to: find

  • 3. The Slavery Of The North And South Between 1700 And 1799 In the Western countries including America, most of the nations incorporated provisions for slavery within their structure of governance. As slavery took roots in the North and South between 1700 and 1799, it influenced political, social and economic structures of the two regions throughout the 18th century. Towards the end of 17th century, European masters embarked on granting independence to their colonies. As the European colonies in the North gained independence, residents of the independent states acquired cheap land that was left by their colonial masters. As workers were needed to work on the land and build new towns, some of the families sold some of their children to provide labor (Goldin, Cameron Balarajan, 2011). Furthermore, during the time of colonization, American colonies in the North recognized compulsory labor; thus prompting most of the masters to hire fellow Americans or Europeans as laborers. Although some of the Africans provided labor in the North during this time, the colonial government did not recognize perpetual servitude for the Africans. However, with the decline in the number of laborers, the colonial government was quick to pass a law that contributed to the enslavement of Africans and their children residing in the North. Furthermore, by 1700, most of the states in the North adopted laws aimed at regulating slaves and servants (Morris, 1999). According to research, the Dutch and English masters played a significant role in enslaving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this story the lion spares the mouse s life and in return the mouse saves the lion s life. The author demonstrated this when even though the lion thought the mouse was to small to amount to anything the mouse proved him wrong by saving his life. The author did this to show that even a tiny mouse could make a huge difference to a giant lion. Another lesson is that if you are nice to people then people will be nice to you. This story has always been told with different variations but in the end the moral would always be either don t judge a book by its cover or treat others the way you would want to ... • 5. Meiji Reforms Essay Evaluate the success of the Meiji Reforms in undertaking imperialism in Asia. The Meiji reforms were significantly successful in undertaking imperialism in Asia. Imperialism can be understood as expanding a country s power through increasing one s influence, gaining more territory and controlling the region s economy. For japan to undertake imperialism in Asia they needed to establish a centralised government, a strong military, a technologically advanced and unified nation working together for the same goal. They achieved this by introducing the Meji reforms. From 1868 to 1912, Japan grew from a technologically backwards nation to a world power, defeating both China and Russia swiftly and decisively. In addition to this, Japan had succeeded in establishing a parliament, drafting a constitution, developed a strong legal, financial and economic system, created a strong industry and improved social welfare and education standards. These improvements and implementations made Japan internationally recognised and respected as a modernised country. Looking back, we can identify numerous reasons that led to the success of undertaking imperialism in Asia through the use of the Meiji reforms. The military reform had a significant role in undertaking imperialism in Asia. The military reform of Meiji Japan was focused on establishing a powerful and unified national military under the ultimate leadership of the emperor. To achieve this, the Meiji government created equality among ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Motives And Motives In Hamlet No, No, the drink, the drink! O my dear Hamlet! The drink, the drink! I am poison d! . (Act 5 Scene 2 line 302 304) This was a line exclaimed by Gertrude, the mother Hamlet before she deceased in the ballroom of the castle. Death is a common attribute to appear in Hamlet because throughout the whole play characters are continuing to pass due to quite violent reasons such as murder or suicide. After a character passes it is those left in the play that have to cope and react. A motive is a reason for doing something, especially one that is hidden or not obvious. This causes many different motives and actions for each individual character. Looking into the play Hamlet written by William Shakespeare, three characters stand out that have lost their father: Fortinbras, Laertes, and Hamlet. All three of these men have reacted differently to their loss based on their relationships and motives. This drives their emotions and actions throughout the play and ultimately decides the fate of many individuals. Since the beginning of the play straight from act one Fortinbras has never had a father as he was murdered by King Hamlet. This although sends a spike of ambition and motivation into Young Fortinbras. He now has the motive to take over land as it is his duty to avenge his father s death. Since one of Fortinbras uncles told him he could not takeover Denmark because it was rightfully lost and King Hamlet still lived. This motive is so strong that it creates actions such as trying to conquer Poland instead. By doing this aswell it sends rumors and fear into Denmark. Those forsaid lands, so by his father lost and this I take it is the main motive of our preparations. Horatio (Act one scene one line 103 104) Fortinbras is filled with aggression and passion to fulfill his father s death with victory and prosperity. The motive of Fortinbras is to ensure that he fills his duty as son to the king by continuing to run the country while winning battles to prove that the country is not weak. The country is still strong and ready to fight for what had been taken from them. While in Poland although they did not conquer a whole bunch and had paid more in what it was worth this does not stop this motive from continuing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A reservoir is a natural or artificial source of untreated water that can be found underground or at ground level that can include water treatment and associated equipment (pumps and piping systems).[1] There are three major watershed systems in which New York receives its water which are The Croton System, The Catskill System, The Delaware System. Further population increase and the expansion of New York City to include five boroughs amplified the need for more clean water circulation. In order to find new water sources the Board of Water Supply built facilities in four watersheds that is now known as the Catskill System (which includes the Ashokan Reservoir and Catskill Aqueduct). The Delaware System was fully constructed in 1944 which receives water from the Delaware River tributary. Located in current day New York Public Library there once housed one of NYC s main water supply systems called the Croton Reservoir (Murray hill reservoir). Built in 1842 in a style of an Egyptian Cornice it had an area of four acres and held a capacity of 20 million gallons. As a result increases in population between 1840 and 1870 other reservoir system were built in place of the Croton Reservoir and it was shut down in 1890.[4] NYC Reservoirs today The NYC drinking water system is gravity driven and is sourced from 19 reservoirs and three controlled lakes in a 1,972 sq mi watershed and has a storage capacity of roughly 580 billion gallons. The film does an excellent job of showing us what to expect from the plot early on at the beginning of the film. Through the opening scene one can fully interpret the film as a whole through the various clues left for the viewer. The very first scene focuses on the tops of buildings and houses where some of theses structures are distorted in the expressionist way. The building in the very back appears to be a church or synagogue or some sort. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a sound inserted when the viewer is exposed to Lola Lola as a woman opens up the curtain for the storefront. The opening of the storefront can be representative of the opening of the curtain at the cabaret performances, when Lola Lola steps on stage. The poster on the storefront window is also displayed from the inside out. Those who view the poster can only visually see it. They cannot touch it nor grab the poster. They can only simply admire it from the outside. This is representative of Lola Lola and her performances, where the spectators are only there to see. There is no physical interaction with any of the girls in the cabaret performances, which is represented through how the poster is displayed only for the eye. The poster is also an unrealistic image of Lola Lola, showing how she artificially is. The poster of Lola Lola is looking up at her like if she was a goddess. Her long legs make up more than half of the poster showing that she is up on some pedestal from everyone else. There are some clouds behind her to show that being with her or around her is like being up in heaven. There are also what appear to be two little cupids tugging at her from opposite ends. They are representative of the amounts of men that want her and try to do the most for her. They are also shown as childlike to depict the behaviors the men have when they are with her. As if they were to lose themselves, to her just like Dr. Rath did. He completely forgot who he was and how he comported himself in society. He lived for her and even became part of her show to be with her. The film shows how people laughed at him for completely losing it over a woman, something that for time has been inferior to men. • 13. Importance Of Self Love And Body Positivity Self love and body positivity, are the two subjects I have struggled with since last year. Self love is when you have a positive view of yourself and are confident in yourself. And body positivity is forgiving and affirming towards your body. There was a time when I used to not care what I looked like. I wouldn t care if I had a noticeable blemish my face, had rolls of flesh showing, or ate an entire batch of cookies by myself. But somehow, one day everything changed. For the longest time I wasn t proud of how I looked. The fact that I have glasses and have loads of acne around my face, wasn t helping. I remember looking at the girls at school and wondering how they have smooth skin, and why they are so beautiful. You have no idea how countless times I typed How to clear acne in the google search bar. And even spent time daydreaming how I would be treated differently if I obtain contacts and be beautiful. My friends would say I was lovely appealing gorgeous etc. I never believed I was any of those words. Thinking of changing my appearance so I can be accepted by others was something I sadly thought was true. I feel embarrassed that I even had that mindset. Now. I feel positive about my appearance. I realized having acne is part of being a teen, and I have now accepted that wearing glasses add character and it s different. On the top of that, I was never satisfied with my body image. I would stand in front of the mirror and judge every aspect of my body, specifically my stomach. I want to be skinny, I want ABS, I want my collar bones to be noticeable. I would weigh myself all the time. I hate to admit it, but I have a fear of being overweight like the people in My 600 Pound Life. In addition seeing models like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, I couldn t help but feel envious of how perfect their bodies are. And hearing girls at school say they weigh 122 or 107 pounds, while I m over here weighing more than that. Also, I would feel self conscious when changing into my PE clothes in the girls locker room. That I would head into the bathroom stall to dress up in there considering I didn t want my classmates to examine my body. I still struggle to form my body the best it can be. Food was the main ... Charles claimed the offspring of something would also gain what its parent s had as an advantage(If they had wings so would the offspring). The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment The Age of Enlightenment was an intellectual and scientific movement which is characterized by its rational and scientific approach to religious, social, political, and economic issues. Enlightenment ideals challenged the way people were taught to think and let them express their criticism of the church, the monarchy or whatever system they saw as unjust. The impact of the enlightenment movement was first seen in 18th century Europe and soon spread to different parts of the world. People who believed in these ideals were called enlightenment thinkers. Enlightenment thinkers were a voice for the masses who felt they were being manipulated by people holding all the power. It also helped the masses realize that they did not need the church or monarchy, and enlightenment thinkers were able to assemble a following to stop people of power taking advantage of those who were not quite as powerful. Enlightenment thinkers gave an outlet to the common citizen who were seeing injustices in their government system. Enlightenment ideals caused a domino effect. Throughout history, we saw that the more the enlightenment ideals spread the more people stood up to their oppressors. The first commercial website started back in 1993, so we ve had nearly a quarter of a century to refine its application. That s why it s so surprising that of the 86 percent of marketers using content marketing, only 32 percent find it effective. Part of the problem is output. The occasional blog post won t even begin to make a splash in the sea of online content. And without any consistency, it s difficult to gain enough traction to engage consumers. There s also the issue of readers. Many marketers don t take the time to define their audiences beyond the basic demographics. Just because someone falls within a certain age range, makes a certain amount of money, and lives within a certain community doesn t mean he or she wants anything to do with your content or product, for that matter. For content to be effective, you need to know who you re talking to. You need to know what type of content your readers want at each stage of the buying process and create an experience that seamlessly supplies them with credible content. You must develop a plan for creating and pushing out a content experience that will truly engage them. Luckily, you don t have to do it alone. Summary Of Hard Times By Charles Dickens Angelina Almanzar ENGL 35701: 19th Century British Novel Professor Elizabeth Weybright 27 June 2016 Utilitarianism in Hard Times During the Victorian Era, many philosophers focused on utilitarian philosophy and ways of thinking, choosing the best decisions and actions for their own self interest. In his novel, Hard Times, Charles Dickens satirizes the English educational system, society, and economics, but most importantly, through them, he criticizes the many abuses of utilitarianism. Many writers such as Bornali Nath Dowerah and Ali Taghizadeh have done research on Dicken s work mostly focusing on utilitarianism and its negative impacts on society especially on those of the lower class. Charles Dickens, the most renowned social commentator of his time, criticized the ills of society as he commiserates with those who were affected the most by social and economical abuses. According to the article Charles Dickens as Social Commentator and Critic published on the Victorian Web (www.victorianweb.org/authors/dickens/diniejko.html), Dickens was not only very successful in exposing what was wrong with society, but also in exposing the ills of the utilitarian theory which at the time rejected the human imagination or fancy. Unlike contractual damages that occur, where responsibility is predetermined, tort law is designed for someone who is legally injured to be able to recover damages from the person who is deemed legally responsible, or liable for such injuries. Tort law is broken down into three main categories, negligence, strict liability, and intentional tort. In negligence tort one is accused of causing damages through their carelessness. Trying to tackle this problem is University of Virginia law professor Jeffrey O Connell and Michael Horowitz of the Hudson Institute, who together have accumulated a number of tort reform ideas that potentially eliminate the absurd incentives of tort law and result in cast economic savings. The pair had three reform ideas. First is the auto choice reform which is designed to make $40 million in savings available on auto insurance premiums. The desired result from this reform would translate in a saving on a typical insurance premium of an average of $221. The second (co authored by Professor Lester Brickman of the Cardozo Law School) is the contingency fee reform. It is designed to appreciably lower attorney fees by $45 billion a year. We introduce institutional environment as a measure of the degree to which policies and institutes in one region differ from those in another region in china, where market are distorted across space and region[1]. We employ a modified heterogeneous firm model developed by Mayer and Melitz et al(2011)[12] to examine whether such institutional environment differences affect the firms export behavior. Sadly racism still exists all over the world. There are a lot of people who does not get that all people are created equal. It is sad because kids are being raised to be racist. I am lucky that I have not had any bad experiences as you see on the news but I have seen some noticeable racism around me. There was this one white girl in my class that I gave an invitation to because I enjoyed being around her. Couples day went by she came to me and said her mom would not let her ... Specifically, Tan uses sisterhood as a structure for the representation and regulation of cultural differences among women. The Hundred Secret Senses does not offer an admired development of sisterhood but rather gives a refined investigation of the philosophy of sisterhood and stresses the impact of the sister relationship in creating ethnic consciousness and identity. For Tan, sisterhood envelops biological bonding as well as poignant cultural heritage. The bond between the two half sisters in The Hundred Secret Senses is loaded with equivocalness created by synchronous sentiments of equality and difference. Psychologically, Olivia, the sister who typifies the ethnic other, has been perceived as a fundamental piece of the American self. The key occasions in her psychological development her isolation from Simon, her refusal of her heritage and rejection of her sister, her guiltiness, her developing valuation for Chinese culture, and her longings towards meaningful kinships are all associated with her sister Kwan and their advancing relationship. Kwan turns out to be, in the expressions of Downing, an oblivious manual for Olivia s trip toward self and psyche, that is, toward an expanded consciousness of her roots and ethnic ... • 41. Characteristics Of Modern Christianity 1. A Unique and Important Practice in Modern Christianity There are many Christian practices, all of the diversified importance to the lives of the believers of the faith. These variegated practices are what differentiates Christians from people of other faiths, and gives them autonomy. According to Craig Dykstra, Christian practices are not activities we do to make something spiritual happen in our lives. Nor are they duties we undertake to be obedient to God. Rather, they are patterns of communal action that create openings in our lives where the grace, mercy, and presence of God may be made known to us (Spiritual Practices, n.d., p. 1). Therefore, Christian practices are the daily engagements that believers of the faith undertake in line with what is expected of them. This paper will discuss fasting as a practice in modern Christianity that is unique and important to the faith of believers and will provide a summary describing fasting, how it developed, and why it is significant in the lives of at least some contemporary Christians. In addition, this paper will also discuss Evangelicalism as a movement within Christianity which started within the past 200 years, having distinctive beliefs, and impact on modern and contemporary Christianity (Christendom). One practice in modern Christianity that is unique is fasting (Colbert, 2006). Often, fasting is related to a person lacking or rather, doing without food, however, this is not the case. Through ... • 45. Mumbo Jumbo And Traditional Detective Fiction Since the thesis is going to compare Mumbo Jumbo with the traditional detective fiction. It is needed here that we should find a definition or standard for the so called traditional detective fiction . Actually, the pattern of detective fiction is very rigid, allowing few variations from work to work. Two of the most famous standards for classic detective fictions have been set forth by Ronald Knox and by S.S.Van Dine (whose real name is Willard Huntington Wright). Ronald Knox is a British detective story writer. He listed Ten Commandments for detective fictions in his introduction to The Best [English] Detective Stories of 1928. The database must also be able to, accept, store, and manage molecular physiology data (Moore, 2007). In doing so, selecting the correct database is essential, and many companies choose to create their own private database. However, the creation and use of public databases are on the rise. After all the genetic information has been inputted into a database, it needs to be analyzed. Data analysis consists of data mining and machine learning methods, through the use of high powered computers. Data analysis is also used for identifying any bimolecular patterns in the observed outcome (Moore, 2007). In addition, data mining is then used to manage and study the genetic information. After all of the analysis and studying, the interpretation of the information is what is most important. The researchers need to be able to understand and comprehend what the data information signifies. From there, bioinformatics can then be used for other various resources. For instance, bioinformatics can be valuable in delivering therapeutics (Bioinformatics, 2000). Bioinformatics is important because it allows researchers and scientists to study genetic information and to be able to add to the database(s). Furthermore, it led to the emergence of computational biology, in which researchers and scientists could interpret the genetic data (Hagen, 2000).
