Essay on Bob Dylan
Regarding significant musical movements in history, more specifically the twenty first century, few
were more important than the folk revolution that took shape in the mid nineteen hundreds. One of the
leaders of this revolution was Robert Allen Zimmerman, known by his popular assumed name, Bob
Dylan. Born in 1941 in Minnesota, Dylan grew up the grandchild of Jewish Russian immigrants and
had a surprisingly unexceptional childhood. His interest in music became evident in his high school
years when he taught himself basic piano and guitar. From these rudimentary skills
Dylan would build his knowledge and experience in music to his present status as a forefather of folk
music in the rock era.
Accordingly, a song from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An eighteen year old
Dylan left his hometown of Hibbing in the fall of 1959 for college at the
University of Minnesota,
Minneapolis. This would be his first taste of the big city and the life that awaited him.
The sight and sounds of the big city opened many new vistas for the young Dylan and he took
advantage of his situation by studying the roots of contemporary rock. He began to listen to the works
of folk pioneers like
Hank Williams, Robert Johnson, and Woody Guthrie. At the same time
Dylan was beginning to perform solo at local Minneapolis night spots such as the Ten O Clock
Scholar cafe and the St. Paul s Purple
Onion Pizza Parlor.
During this time Dylan was honing his guitar skills and harmonica work and developing his famous
nasal voice which would become his trademark. Halfway through his college career Dylan decided it
was time for a move. He packed up and moved to New York City with two main motivations. His
primary motivation was to become part of the Greenwich
Village folk music scene which was burgeoning in the city.
His second reason for moving was to meet his idle, Woodie Guthrie, who was in a hospital in New
Jersey with a rare hereditary disease.
Dylan would succeed on both counts. Not only did he meet Guthrie but he became a fixture at his
bedside. As well, Bob Dylan was now a recognizable name among the folk clubs and coffee houses of

Nuclear Bomb Research Paper
Nuclear bombs are fatal weapons engendering explosions that produce fireballs, shockwaves, and
intense radiation and later causing a mushroom cloud to form. The mushroom cloud forms from
vaporized debris and disperses that fall on earth causing environmental damage. As stated in the
article published by Encyclopedia Britannica and written by Thomas B. Cochran, a consultant to the
Natural Resources Defense Council, In the explosion in Hiroshima...convection currents created by
the explosion drew dust and other debris into the air, creating the mushroom shaped
cloud...radioactive debris was carried by winds high into the atmosphere, later to settle to Earth as
radioactive fallout (Cochran, 2016, p. 1). The detonation of nuclear bombs instills

The Demise Of The Soviet Union
On the demise of the Soviet Union
Twenty five years ago, the Soviet Union collapsed taking by surprise therewith not only the
international community, but also its own leaders. What brought the superpower down? Its
authoritarian and corrupt political system, failure of the planned economy and stagnation, or consistent
celebration of national diversity throughout the whole history of the Soviet Union? If the question is
why the USSR disintegrated into 15 independent states, then the answer lies in the republican lines
which were drawn around ethnicity. In this essay, I argue the primacy of the ethnofederal system and
Soviet nation building policy to the fall of the last European empire . First, I will address the main
tenets of and motifs behind the Soviet approach to the nationality question and how it backfired on the
Communist Party and Russian democrats, who strived to preserve the union, seven decades later; then
I will discuss political and economic structural flaws of the Soviet system and give reasons for why
they could not solely account for the actual break up when examined from a broader perspective;
lastly I will analyze mechanisms, predetermined by ethnofederal system and Soviet ethno cultural
policies, that facilitated an avalanche of secessions from the USSR, and sum up my arguments.
Although definitely unintended and unpredicted, Bolsheviks signed their own death warrant when
they cemented in their constitution principles that cultivated ethnic

Societal Brain Functions
1. A) Skills Training: The primary motor cortex is made up of interconnected neural assemblies
(localized groups of neurons with similar inputs and outputs), that control movements in the fingers,
hands, and legs. This coordinated activation can then be made complex and lets us do multijoint
movements such as reaching. Before the study the theory was that during skills learning, the
connectivity between these neural assemblies change. These changes were viewed as differences in
cortical synapse numbers, synaptic strength, and the topography of stimulation evoked movement
representation. They did a study with adult rats to measure these changes while they do an obstacle
course. Some rats had to learn limb placement and posture control to finish a complex obstacle course,
and the others walked an unobstructed course. The rats that were required to learn limb placement and
posture control because of the complex obstacle course, showed increases in synapse number within
the motor cortex compare to the rats doing the simple obstacle. The synaptic changes seen here are
thought to show the changes in cortical circuitry that results in the reorganization of the neural
assemblies encoding movement. Therefore proving the theory correct. All this data indicates that
training on a skill produces alterations in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example rats were given free access for 30 days to run on a wheel. They had increased blood flow
and creation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) in their motor cortex compared to the rats with no
wheel. These increases were not found in the frontal cortex or other subcortical areas, so this means
that these changes are specific to the areas activated by the training. This data lets us know that
exercise can create an increase in blood flow, growth but does not induce any amount of changes in
the cortical

Introduction
Not to be confused with an acquisition, a Greenfield venture is a strategy in which a parent company
enters into a new market without the involvement of another business or partner. This popular strategy
entails a company leasing or purchasing land, building a new facility, employing or relocating
managers and employees, and then independently launching a new operation where none has existed
before. Basically, the operations within a Greenfield venture are done from the ground up. As of today,

Being accepted into France s marketplace gives Acme right of entry to the other European Union
nations. On the surface, France appears to have more of a structured trade policy, which will make
France s trade policies less prone to corruption. While some people may view being under continuous
examination a bad thing, this certainly will keep France s trading processes honest . According to the
US Department of State (2012), a U.S. company like Acme should trade and invest with France
because the U.S. is the top destination for French investment and the U.S. is the leading foreign
investor in France.
Economic Background and Currency Thanks to adopting Euro as their trade currency, France has
managed to turn what could be risks of loss or currency risks caused by price fluctuations into foreign
investment. For example, due to dollar weakness, France unfortunately lost an estimate of nine percent
of their revenue growth back in 2004 but with a rising demand for French imports and the power of
Euro, France weathered the storm and remains a top economy in the world (Tested by the mighty
Euro, 2004). In the past, the economic outlook in France has seemed unbalanced, been questionable,
and everything about their economy pointed towards a recession; fortunately for them, Euro has
proven its reputation of being solid and fixed throughout the EU. As opposed to France s currency,

Cause And Effect Of Climate Change
Climate change is one of the biggest news headlines of today. While there are skeptics that believe that
global warming is just a hoax, there are many undeniable phenomenons happening around the world.
The effects of climate change, in the long run, will be catastrophic if it is left alone. In just the past
two months, there have been four hurricanes that made landfall in North America, and a wildfire more
aggressive than has ever been seen before, ripping through California, killing forty people and
leveling almost six thousand structures. Millions of Americans are displaced due to these unusually
aggressive storms and the fires raging throughout California. Arctic species have seen massive
reductions in their populations, with less food to eat, and less mates to breed with. The toxicity of the
air in urban cities and contamination of waters outside these cities is on the rise. If the world keeps
dismissing the importance of climate change, there will be calamitous consequences for the future
generations. The effects of climate change, if not fixed, will be Arctic ice melting, reduction in animal
populations, habitats threatened, and the air toxicity and seasonal allergies to humans. The causes
include the greenhouse effect and air pollution. In the past decade, Americans have seen global
warming in the headlines constantly. About 71 percent of American scientists say that global warming
is happening now (Saad). According to Linda Saad, Forty five percent of Americans

Essay about Sports Management
Sports Management
Someone once said, There are those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and
those who wonder what happened. I consider myself one of those rare people who really knows how
to make things happen. I have gone from being a follower to being a leader, from being someone who
was shy and uncertain to a person who is self confident and assertive. It has been a remarkable
metamorphosis, and it has changed my future professional plans and personal goals. The awakening of
my independence happened during the end of my softball season my freshman year in college when
my head coach had cut my scholarship because of lack of funding. I was faced with making my first

I have also had the opportunity to be involved in various extracurricular activities that have provided
me with the skills and knowledge that I have employed in my work experiences. Many concepts that I
have learned from these activities were not taught in the classroom, but were instilled through
practical experiences. As well, I feel being a participant in athletics has helped me to grow both
personally and professionally. The variety of field experience, ranging from a minor league baseball
program to being a activities coordinator at a resort, to becoming a sports information assistant to my
university has given me a full perspective of the broad spectrum of the sporting industry. I aspire to a
career in promotions in the sports industry because I enjoy meeting new people and having the
opportunity to participate in sports, but most importantly the feeling of excitement I get right before a
sports competition, is comparable to the feeling
I get working behind the scenes preparing for a sporting event. I truly enjoy coordinating the events
that lead up to the main event. As I look toward my future in sports promotions/public relations, I
believe one of my greatest assets will be associating with others. Presently with my position of sport

Key Factors For Employee Retention
Talent Retention Means Profit Maximisation Today, profit maximisation is the aim of every
commercial organisation which can be achieved only through its people. High turnover in the sales
and account department is always a reason to proud for businesses, contrary to this, high turnover of
employees is a big concern which requires immediate attention of the HR managers, particularly in the
small and midsized companies. High employee turnover rate severely affects the performance as well
as the reputation of a firm in the long run, it inflicts unnecessary cost burden and retards the overall
growth of an organisation. Low investment and high productivity is the success mantra of present

Build An Exciting Company That Does Something Big Attracting top talent starts with building a
business that people want to be part of, says Robert Hatta, talent partner at Drive Capital, which
invests in Midwest companies. Everything else, including where a startup is located, is secondary, he
says. although strong co worker relations are important, the relationship an employee has with their
direct line manager is central. Trust, honesty and confidence all must be instilled in order to ensure
performance. 2. Define Yourself Before You Hire , The Hiring Process Should Reflect Your Culture an
often overlooked element of a business can be its cultural environment. Having a healthy and happy
workplace is also a large contributor to talent retention. Prioritizing your employees needs (not just
extracting value from them) signals you care, which in turn will help increase engagement and
retention. According to recent research, the leading career need is related to development and growth.
Consider the fact that 58 percent of millennials cite career growth and professional development as
their primary career goal. Further, a lack of growth is the leading reason employees leave their current

there are three levels of neonatal nursing. A level 1 neonatal nursery offers care to healthy newborns.
A level 2 neonatal nursery holds infants born prematurely or with an illness. A level 3 neonatal
nursery, usually called a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), provides care to infants who are
premature, brutally ill or too small. Infants admitted to a NICU may require ventilators, incubators or

far different from the teen struggle back in the day. Nowadays we are constantly being forced on how

The increasing demand for palm oil on the markets, has begun an economic competition between large

The Indonesian government began to issue permits to big companies for the production of palm oil,
and the results are catastrophic. Indonesia is now under a widespread burning of tropical rainforests
and peat lands to develop palm oil plantations, and many are saying the crisis is one of the largest

an ongoing debate as to who is at fault; some are blaming the fires on the industrial manipulation of
the landscape for planation development, while the large industries are accusing the farmers and
villagers of lighting many of the fires. Even if the statement were to be true, the displacement of
communities and drainage of peat lands for plantations is ultimately responsible for these fires.
Solving the crisis is not in fighting the forests fires; the solution lies in the prevention from forests
fires happening in the first place. In order to prevent these fires from happening again the world and

Jules Winnfield In Pulp Fiction
We all wish we were those fan favorites in movies, video games, and books but what if we in a way

can still connect with these characters. We can connect through the character traits we share between
each other, because any good character has to have some connection with us in order for us to like
them. The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are Joel for his bravery and
loyalty, Gohan for his love of nature and silence, and Jules Winnfield for his visionary and
philosophical ideas.

In the movie Pulp Fiction, we get an example of his visionary characteristic when he and his partner is
shot at point blank rage but all the bullets miss him. Shortly after the incident he starts preaching to his
partner how all of this was divine intervention and starts questioning whether or not if what he is
doing is right. The movie does not show what happens to Jules after that incident, but we do think that
he decided to retire from his gangster job and walk the Earth. Not only in that scene, but in the last
scene where we see Jules he conversates with his partner very much about why he believes there was
a reason God stopped the bullets and allowed him to keep living. This attribute helps the character
because it helps guide him through his life. At first, he always believe saying a religious quote from
the bible before shooting a man down was something cool but that incident started making him think.
It made him think about the meaning of his quote and it ultimately helps him decide to save a life
rather than just killing them. It enables him to break free from a clouded mind and take a second to
think of the meaning of his life. I have always believed that there was more of a meaning to our lives
than just what we live. Although I am not religious as Jules Winnfield, I still believe that there are
those moments in life that is more than a simple coincidence. Growing up I started looking into
astronomy and what is out there in space but at the same time I was looking into information about
chakras and our mind and how everything is connected. It all made me wonder if there is a greater

Gifted And Gifted Education
Gifted and Talented Education: Socioeconomic Inequalities
Public education in America strives to benefit communities through teaching democratic principles
and the common values of society through equal opportunities for learning: equal opportunities do not
create equal outcomes. What the public education system attempts in actuality are equitable processes,
in that all individuals are given a chance to try to get an education (Dai, 2013). Conflict theory views
education in a capitalist society as a way to maintain social inequality and preserve economic and
political power for the dominant population; the underlying hidden curriculum serves to indoctrinate
the accession of working classes into the lower positions in society (Turner, 1975). Over the last
decade, the majority of public schools have shifted their attention to ensuring there is equivalent
access to specialized education programs for African Americans and other minorities, as well as to
students with disabilities or limited English proficiency (Resnick, 2006) in conjunction with the
standard rubric; public schools are adapting to the changing landscape of society, and broadening the
scope of specialized curriculum to service more diverse students both culturally and ethnically in
accelerating their academic ability. Children of both high and low income families are born with
highly abled abilities, but opportunities to enhance these abilities are not equally represented, and

In The Tyger, William Blake explains that there is more that meets the eye when one examines the
Creator and his creation, the tiger. The character is never defined. All throughout the poem the
character questions the Creator of the tiger to determine if the Creator is demonic or godlike. The

The character is inquiring about the location of the Creator of the tiger when he says, In what distant

On one hand this is a reference to the God of the Bible; but on the other, it could be a reference to
Blake himself. Surely, the poem is as inspiring as it is ambiguous. Someone that is of no religion
would think other wise or maybe someone wouldn t care who made the tiger.
Blake uses symbols to express the strength of the tiger and its Creator. The main symbol in The Tyger
is the tiger itself. The tiger is formed on a number of ideas, which is the eye of man and God, but it is
also a sign of the very same eye, which created it. The word fire is used to exemplify the aggressive
character of the tiger, Burnt the fire of thine eyes? (6). The fire can be used to describe the way the
tiger sees and is seen by other people. When a person sees or comes into contact with a tiger, the
person gets tense right away because we know that one false move and the tiger may attack. This
example shows how vicious and hostile the tiger can be just as a hurricane. The Creator could also be
described as a hostile person also. This might be a depiction of himself. The sign of fire is leading in
the structure of the poem. To know the foundation of the fire is to know the source of the Creator. He
relates the tiger s environment to one during the Industrial Revolution when he says, What the
hammer? What the chain? / In what furnace was thy brain? (13 14). This tells

Emily Grierson Illness
William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily In William Faulkner s, A Rose for Emily, Miss Emily Grierson
lives a tragic secluded life, isolate from the world, in her house. However, upon further inspection, it
appears that she has a psychological disorder which affects her relationships with her family and the
community preventing her from making a true, healthy connection with the outside world. Her illness
is present in all aspects of communication within the community and even within herself. It is
perpetuated by the refusal of the community to talk about it and the help she receives from authorities
to cloak the symptoms altogether.

Yang compares Emily s life to another protagonist in Faulkner s story. According to Yang, The truth is
that she poisons Homer secretly and resolutely as she protects her dignity and reputation, and at the

body that lies in bed (Yang, 2013). From this passage Yang implies Emily knows what she is she

Chau Trong Thuy Story
In our daily, our grandmother and mother usually tell children for many legendary folk tales to sleep
well at night. For example, Sue God For Rain, The Golden Star Fruit Tree, Chu Dong Tu And Princess
Tien Dung, and The Price of Love are many rattling good stories in Vietnamese folklore. However,
Love Story Of My Chau And Trong Thuy is the best folktale I have ever heard since I was a child. It is
involved in the important and true historical event in Vietnam.
An Duong Vuong a king of Au Lac nation, who built Co Loa citadel, was helped by saint Kim Qui.
Then, the saint took him one of his claws to make a crossbow to protect the citadel from enemies.
Because the crossbow was very magic, every arrow was shot from it to hit a thousand of enemies at
the same time. After a long time, Cao Lo, who was one of the mandarin s household butlers, was the
most skilful crossbow maker in the country. He was chosen by the king to be in charge of the heavy
responsibility. Nevertheless, athletes are only suited to use this kind of weapon. The crossbow was
extremely treasured by the kings, so it was hung in his bedroom. At the time, Trieu Da, the governor
of a country adjoining Au Lac at the north, had been failed in occupying his neighbouring nation for
many times. Therefore, he attempted to guard his country by all means and waited for the right time.

Natural Law Of Shakespeare s King Lear

Natural Law in Shakespeare s King Lear King Lear is one of the most famous tragedies, which was
written by Shakespeare between 1603 and 1606. During that period, the social unrest swept across the
whole England, and the rise of capitalism led to moral turpitude. With the high speed economic
development, many old ethics and moralities had been gradually forgotten and destroyed. Therefore,
King Lear can be seen as a true portrayal of the social phenomena of this time.
The play explores the Natural law, which can be easily found in terms of power relationships between
human beings parents over children, husbands over wives, and king over subjects. The notion of
natural social order in King Lear is not only simply as one of the most essential themes, but also the
foundation of the entire play. First and foremost, at the core of this play lies the filiation between
parents and children. Shakespeare shows the significance of this relationship through Edmund,
Goneril and Regan, who do not respect their parents. At the beginning of the play, Edmund has no any
entitlement under the unjust British Hierarchy and the social customs at that time because he is a
bastard. When he said, Shall top the legitimate; I grow; I prosper/Now, gods, stand up for bastards! (1.
2. 21 22) These words define his the respect and rank of low birth. Though man s law neglects to

Lab Report Experiment II
ABSTRACT: The main purpose of this lab is to extract the organic compound cinnamaldehyde from
cinnamon. The process used in order to execute the extraction of the cinnamaldehyde is called steam
distillation. After massing the Cinnamaldehyde on a scale in the laboratory, its total mass came out to
0.050 grams. The calculated percent yield came out to around 1.55%. The experiment yielded success
due to the fact that my data fell in the range (of the expected percent yield.)
PROCEDURES: The procedure for this lab experiment is located in Professor Zachary J. Poulos

After steam distillation occurred, the solvent was exposed to the open air for seven days. The
Cinnamaldehyde built up in the bottom of the test tube, baring the color brown. The calculated actual
percent yield of my experiment was 1.55%. This calculation fell in the range of the literature percent
yield of Cinnamaldehyde which is between 1.00 3.00%. Due to my calculation falling in range to what
is was supposed to be (literature percent yield), I would have to conclude that my experiment in this

Thesis On Foot Binding
According to Li Xiu ying, a victim of foot binding, I knew that already because every woman I ever
saw had bound feet. Before the Communists came I never even heard of a woman not having bound
feet. Li Xiu ying was stating that almost every Chinese women at that time had experienced foot
binding; it was considered as a rule for young women and not an exception. Foot binding began in
tenth century China and was very popular during the Song and the Qing dynasties. Although it caused
many health complications and lifelong disabilities, foot binding became popular by a process of
displaying status and also was embraced as a symbol of beauty in Chinese culture. Women were
affected by foot binding in many ways, especially physically, socially, ... Show more content on

One reason for this process was the purpose of marital reasons. This was the most common reason for
one to do foot binding; what men most desired in a bride was a foot size of three inches, also known
as the golden lotus . It was mildly acceptable for some women to have four inch feet, which was
known as the silver lotus , although for a woman to have five inch feet or longer, called the bronze
lotus , it was simply dismissed and it would be very hard for one to find a husband. The size of their
foot was to be very small indeed; for families that had daughters to marry off, the size of their feet was
its own form of currency . Why they upheld this tradition for so long, was for men to be able to
control women during their marriage. They were said to be less independent when their feet were
bound. Not only did this process allow men to dominate women, it also made them victims of a
society that showed brutality towards women. Some researchers say that foot binding deepened the
control of women by making them more dependent on males, because it would minimize their
movements and enforce better obedience, since women with bound feet were physically unable to
travel far from their homes. This enabled women to have very little authority over their life. Another
act of accommodation was the role of family honor installed with the procession. This was the second
most common reason for one to do foot binding; by binding their daughter s feet, families maintained
a good reputation and social status. Although foot binding is now looked upon as an act of cruelty, at
that time, it was seen as a sign of wealth. It symbolized this for a girl s family because it showed that
they were wealthy by not allowing their daughter to work. For this reason, families would also take
pride in the fact of their daughter s small feet. Foot binding started out as a fashionable statement from
the expression

Interrogating Culture And Psychology
Interrogating Culture and Biology in the Understanding the theory of Person
Overview
Within the purview of the understanding of the theory of the person, relativism holds sway. Several
things are at play in forming an individual s response to external stimuli. An individual s
understanding of his culture often informs these responses. Whereas individual s understanding of
culture(s) is limited, that is the point where relativism comes in. where a knowledge stops is where
another start, hence opinions vary in relation to the individual experience of a subject matter. The
dynamics of a culture is dependent on its environment. These variables also have deep rooted relations
with biology (Sapolsky 2017: 3). Sapolsky infers that there is a ... Show more content on

the generalization made there cannot be overemphasized. An inherent inhibition would be a product of
an individual or group s experience. If not, how would we explain the making of a serial killer? What
informed Hitler s decision to annihilate the Jews?
This paper interrogates the various contradictions in Nordstrom s opinion, about the various levels of
violence and their interpretations. Culture influences interpretations of events and they are relative to
context and individuals or groups. It also interrogates Berkowitz (1978:707) tentative summation of
pain as being the source of aggression in man. I attempt to test their ideas using Sapolsky s research in
neuroscience and Eagleton s literary theory. Nordstrom questions the idea that projects the intrinsic
nature of aggression in man against the backdrop of theories in psychoanalysis theories eschewed by
Eagleton and Sapolsky. Also, it appreciates the philosophical musing of Nordstrom while she offers a
case of what ought to.... as against what is in war and violence narratives.
The Irony in Nordstrom s reality
Nordstrom s description of war as cultural reality (Nordstrom 1998: 148) elucidates the thoughts of
this paper and reiterate the idea of cultural relativism. Hence, it casts a shadow on the notion of
political aggression or otherwise. Aggression at this point would be relative to an

The Tyger Religion
The Lamb and The Tyger Religion had a powerful influence on William Blake during the
Romanticism period. As a poet, William used imagination, presented emotions and the concept of
nature. He placed his voice through the words of his poems. In The Lamb he displays the teachings of
Christianity. William Blake strives for the reader to embrace the Creator outlooks of innocence and
wildness. In The Tyger he tries to make the reader understand why such an animal was originated.
However, the author emphasizes to the reader the purpose of God s creations. The lamb is
characterized as the peaceful perspective of God. In The Lamb it states, I a child and thou a lamb, we

In The Tyger it states, Did he who made the Lamb make thee? (Blake line 20). William Blake s
curiosity makes the reader feel uncertain. He only highlights the importance of the tyger through
asking questions. Blake s questions were challenging the principles of Christianity. He was underling
why God created the beautiful lamb and the ferocious tyger. He wanted people to know that the world
is filled with tranquility and disturbance. God himself wants people to adhere to the opposites of life.
The way we humans deal with beauty with horror and love with pain. God is the creator of both
creatures, but also the creator of such emotions presented within them. People misconceive the
perception and the purpose of the tyger. God himself is the human soul of honesty and brute force.
When the stars threw down their spears and water d heaven with their tears (Blake 17 18). The stars
act as our saviors; like angels to protect us. Although, nature acts as a warrior. Nature quickly placed
on its armor to attack the dangerous tyger. The waters cried due to the nefarious existence of such a
creature. Not only nature, but man himself on Earth is not aware of what the tyger can do. The purpose
of the tyger is to be our weapon to destroy injustice and cruel activities in the world. The tyger is our
inner strength to ward off evil. God himself is the tyger because he is the one that helps his devotees in
the time of hardships. He does not let his devotees suffer or be faced with degradation. William Blake
depicted the tyger as the malevolent beast, to make the reader apprehend the beauty of God s creation.

Aperture Analysis Lab
Aperture is a hole within a lens, where light travels into its body. Depth of Field is the area of the
image that looks clear. The aperture impacts the depth of field directly, the larger the aperture and vice
versa, the larger the depth of field. For the picture above, as the aperture gets smaller, the depth of
field gets smaller, thus smaller amounts of the picture appears clearer. As for the picture below, as the
aperture gets bigger, lesser amounts of light is exposed to the camera, thus the picture gets darker.

Notice that as the shutter speed is slower, the water fountain appears more and more still. At the
shutter speed of 1/1000, the water fountain appears frozen. To ensure that we use the correct shutter
speed, we have to use the formula of Shutter Speed = 1/Focal Length. The slower the shutter speed,
the more light it lets in. ISO stands for International Standards Organization, which standardizes the
camera sensitivity ratings. Changing the ISO setting adjusts the sensitivity of the sensor to light. ISO
can also be adjusted to obtain good exposure. As the ISO increases, the camera becomes more
sensitive, thus the image taken at ISO 12900 appears grainier as compared to the image taken at ISO
100.
To ensure a picture of good quality, we have to maintain the adequate amount of light entering the
camera. For example to shoot a dolphin jumping out of the water, it is taken ISO 320 as the setting is
not very bright, 1/1600 shutter speed to freeze the dolphin jumping out of the water and f/5.6.
However, this aperture gives it a shallow depth of field. Since we want an appropriate amount of focus
in the background and we cannot change the shutter speed or the image will turn blurry, we change the
ISO. To make sure the amount of light entering the camera is same, and increase of and ISO stop
should also have a decrease of an aperture stop. This allows the same amount of light to enter the
camera but a wider depth of

Executive Order 8802
With the coming of World War II, African Americans were arguably elevated to a higher standing in
society due to the total war effort. But what part would Presidential and Military action take in this
advancement since their duty is to protect their citizens? And would the efforts from these offices
triumph over the racial prejudice that ruled American society, and most importantly, would their
legacy last for an improved quality of life for a good portion of the US population. With these
questions in mind, Executive Orders No. 8802 and 9981 as well as President Franklin D. Roosevelt s

One of the nationwide race riots in particular, the Detroit Race Riot of 1943, demonstrates the lack of

work in automobile factories. With the inability to house the Southern immigrants, racial tensions

deaths of 25 blacks from the violence of police brutality and prejudices show that initiatives aimed at
the labor force in fact had minimal influence over the established institutions that ruled the cities

When 20/20 and Oprah did segments about ADD on television, many parents felt that they finally

fix the problem. Most soon discovered a drug called Ritalin. It sounded simple. All they had to do was
give their rambunctious or hyperactive child a pill three or four times a day, and magically he or she

Many experts feel physicians should be more aware of the side effects of the drug and look to alternate
solutions before prescribing Ritalin. Some experts also believe that Ritalin should be only part of the
treatment for patients with ADD or ADHD. The drug, which now saturates the market, produces the
same sensations as the narcotic speed if someone who is not ADD or ADHD takes it. Because of its
narcotic nature, Ritalin is considered by law to be a controlled substance, and its dosage and intake
must be carefully monitored. Parents see Ritalin as a quick fix and urge doctors to prescribe it for their
children, thus leading to premature or improper diagnoses, more people having adverse side effects to
the drug, and an increased availability of the drug for non medicinal purposes.
Many doctors do not take the time to perform a complete evaluation of the patient who is suspected to
have ADD or ADHD. They listen to the teacher or parent and assume because the child has a short
attention span or is very hyperactive that the child must have ADD. The doctors do not take time to
examine other possibilities for the child s behavior such as learning disabilities, depression, or anxiety
disorders that look like ADHD, but do not need Ritalin (Hancock 55).
This need to find a quick fix has

How Did Mulholland Build The Aqueduct
During the 1900 s the city of Los Angeles and its surroundings were growing at a fast rate. As an
effect, the demand for basic needs developed day by day; more specifically, water demand. The just
appointed Los Angeles Bureau of Water Works and Supply, Fred Eaton suggested to build a new
aqueduct from Owens Valley to 250 miles south that could store water supply for at least two years.
His first step was to hire self taught engineer, William Mullholland, who seemed to had knowledge
about the un researched area where the aqueduct would be built. After analyzing different options,
Mulholland decided to build the dam in San Francisquito. However, Mulholland s lack of education
seemed to worry expert engineers. Therefore, a board named Aqueduct ... Show more content on

First, the geology where the dam was being built foreshadowed that slippage could happen. Second,
the concrete had not been reinforced with steel and it lacked contraction joints which helped the

Mulholland made the decision to utilize concrete instead of clay cores due to the lack of clayey
materials. As a result of this material choice, the dam had to be re designed. Therefore, the dam was
built with a 175 feet high curved side with steps going down all the way to the bottom. As mentioned
before the city of Los Angeles and its surroundings was growing in increasing in population faster
than ever. To proportion this growth, Mulholland added 10 feet to the original height of the dam.
However, this adjustment was made without adjusting the width of the dam, resulting in a
disproportion. Nonetheless, Mulholland concluded the dam was still within the margins of safety.
After two years of construction the dam was completed in May

someone who is more down than they are. It s all a matter of degrees (Nye, 175). It has been so long
since a poem, or a set of poems, has resonated so deeply within my person. Of course from time to
time I come across one that will make me reminisce or truly think deeper than what is due the next

Definition Essay On UGA HERO
Hero (n.): a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for their brave deeds and noble
qualities; someone who fights for a cause; a large sandwich made of a long crusty roll split lengthwise

The definitions of a hero are endless ranging from dignified to downright tasty. Still, with all these
interpretations it makes me wonder. What defines a true hero? I found my answer when I joined UGA
HEROs.
When I stepped foot onto UGA s campus I knew I wanted to get involved. To me, trying out a

HEROs stood out to me for three reasons:

be able to find him, and the town has a train station for him to make a quick getaway. When Jimmy
first arrives to the town, he sees a woman named Annabel Adams and everything changes. He knows
she will not like him if he keeps acting like his old self. Therefore, he decides he will finally change
for the better. He changes his name to Ralph Spencer and starts acting different. This short story
demonstrates change and how you affect people every day whether you realize it or not. At the
beginning of the coming of age story, when Jimmy gets let out of jail, we see how Jimmy has not
changed and he had went back to his old ways. To show this, the author explains multiple robberies
that happened within weeks of each other. Then, Ben Price, the detective trying to find who has been
robbing the banks, realized it was Jimmy Valentine who was back to his old ways. To show this, the
author wrote, Ben Price knew Jimmy s habits. He had learned them while working on the Springfield
case. Long jumps, quick get aways, no confederates, and a taste for good society

Essay On The Mayan Dance
The Mayan s are known to have a deeply artistic and spiritual culture that is expressed through their
music and dance that goes back in ancient times (Lozano, n.d.). The influences of their culture and
religious practices are seen even in modern day celebrations. It s amazing how a form of dance, such
as the Mayan dance, expect so much in fine detail and specificity while having the ability to thrive to
modern times. In order to understand how this culture has lived for so long we must come to terms
with its history, details of performances, and attire.
Where it Comes From? The Mayan s sacred dance rituals came from their relationship with their gods.
They believed that they communicated with spirits in the spirit world through dance. They accepted
dance as a form of ritual. It was an animalistic, beastly connection that they ... Show more content on

Usually, there costumes are creative, colorful, and as noisy as possible with tiny rattles and bells
sewed on the ankle and wrist straps (Donn, n.d). They also wear masks of many sizes, shapes, and
color that go along with the theme of their dances. Costume worn for the Danza de los Venados. This
dance is of pre Hispanic origin and refers to the ancient ritual of the Deer Hunt, carried out in order to
provide food and material sustenance for the community (Department of Tourism, n.d).
Conclusion
From the evidence suggested, the culture surrounding Mayan dance (specifically the dances and
music) possesses intrinsic quality that has allowed it to stamp itself into the face of modern tradition
today. From the rich flavors of music to the mind boggling acts of dance, Mayan dance portrays
qualities of life that not many other domains could accomplish. In recognition of this, Mayan tradition
should be celebrated for its glorious withstanding through the test of time. Its dances are sacred not
only to those long ago, but for many

The Role Of An Engineer Essay
When talking about engineering, people would probably have pictures in their mind of engineers using
machines producing parts, drawing and sketching designs, or even doing some mathematical
calculations. A more general answer to what engineers actually do would be that they solve social
problems through the use of machines, devices, systems, materials and processes. They are all
absolutely correct. But in reality, both the job and the role of an engineer are more complicated. They
do not only have to work with machines and designs. Engineers are often involved in communications
and negotiations. They have to work with different people and the responsibility that they have is
massive. Important decisions are made by them and they have to use their own judgement. And very
often, ethical considerations are already built into the decisions they make. In order to make the best
decisions, they have to be understood in the context of their role in society and, moreover, they need
to develop good ethical awareness and be able to deal with the dilemmas that they have to face every
day. As mentioned above, it is very important for engineers to understand their own responsibilities. In
1960, the Conference of Engineering Societies of Western Europe and the United States of America
defined professional engineer as follows:1 A professional engineer is competent by virtue of his/her
fundamental education and training to apply the scientific method and outlook to the analysis

Major Depressive Disorder ( Depression )
Major Depressive Disorder (Depression) is a mood disorder where a person has a constant feeling of
sadness and complete loss of interest in everyday life. It is considered more serious than a case of the
blues and might require long term treatment. During major depressive disorder, the person thinks and
behaves differently and may experience emotional and physical problems.
Causes
The exact cause has yet to be pinpointed. It is believed that specific neurotransmitters in the brain may
stop acting the way they should and therefore affect the state of the individual s mood. The impact of
hormones is also called into question because hormone imbalances, for example pregnancy and
thyroid dysfunction, are believed to cause depression. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overwhelming feeling of sadness or hopelessness.
Trouble concentrating and making decisions.
Feelings of guilt, worthlessness and shame. Worrying over past indiscretions or failures.
Slower thinking.
Treatment
Many people with depression find that medications along with regular visits to a psychologist or
psychiatrist are a very effective form of treatment.
Cognitive Therapy this form of cognitive therapy starts out by educating the client on what may cause
the depression and that negative thoughts should be redirected. The therapist teaches the client how to
identify the bad thoughts as they occur throughout the day and the emotions that are associated with
them. It is helpful because once the person can identify the negative thoughts, they can begin the steps
to try to change them.
Family Therapy this therapy should be considered if the affected individual s depression begins to
affect his/her family. This treatment creates a therapeutic environment for each person to discuss their
feelings openly and encourage open communication between family members.
Hospitalization in severe cases where a person with depression has expressed suicidal thoughts or
even attempted suicide, an inpatient treatment program with constant monitoring can be very helpful.
Electroconvulsive Therapy/ Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation this type of therapy is viewed as a last
resort option. In ECT, a current is passed through the skull into the

  • 2. Essay on Bob Dylan Regarding significant musical movements in history, more specifically the twenty first century, few were more important than the folk revolution that took shape in the mid nineteen hundreds. One of the leaders of this revolution was Robert Allen Zimmerman, known by his popular assumed name, Bob Dylan. Born in 1941 in Minnesota, Dylan grew up the grandchild of Jewish Russian immigrants and had a surprisingly unexceptional childhood. His interest in music became evident in his high school years when he taught himself basic piano and guitar. From these rudimentary skills Dylan would build his knowledge and experience in music to his present status as a forefather of folk music in the rock era. Accordingly, a song from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An eighteen year old Dylan left his hometown of Hibbing in the fall of 1959 for college at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. This would be his first taste of the big city and the life that awaited him. The sight and sounds of the big city opened many new vistas for the young Dylan and he took advantage of his situation by studying the roots of contemporary rock. He began to listen to the works of folk pioneers like Hank Williams, Robert Johnson, and Woody Guthrie. At the same time Dylan was beginning to perform solo at local Minneapolis night spots such as the Ten O Clock Scholar cafe and the St. Paul s Purple Onion Pizza Parlor. During this time Dylan was honing his guitar skills and harmonica work and developing his famous nasal voice which would become his trademark. Halfway through his college career Dylan decided it was time for a move. He packed up and moved to New York City with two main motivations. His primary motivation was to become part of the Greenwich Village folk music scene which was burgeoning in the city. His second reason for moving was to meet his idle, Woodie Guthrie, who was in a hospital in New Jersey with a rare hereditary disease. Dylan would succeed on both counts. Not only did he meet Guthrie but he became a fixture at his bedside. As well, Bob Dylan was now a recognizable name among the folk clubs and coffee houses of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Demise Of The Soviet Union On the demise of the Soviet Union Twenty five years ago, the Soviet Union collapsed taking by surprise therewith not only the international community, but also its own leaders. What brought the superpower down? Its authoritarian and corrupt political system, failure of the planned economy and stagnation, or consistent celebration of national diversity throughout the whole history of the Soviet Union? If the question is why the USSR disintegrated into 15 independent states, then the answer lies in the republican lines which were drawn around ethnicity. In this essay, I argue the primacy of the ethnofederal system and Soviet nation building policy to the fall of the last European empire . First, I will address the main tenets of and motifs behind the Soviet approach to the nationality question and how it backfired on the Communist Party and Russian democrats, who strived to preserve the union, seven decades later; then I will discuss political and economic structural flaws of the Soviet system and give reasons for why they could not solely account for the actual break up when examined from a broader perspective; lastly I will analyze mechanisms, predetermined by ethnofederal system and Soviet ethno cultural policies, that facilitated an avalanche of secessions from the USSR, and sum up my arguments. Although definitely unintended and unpredicted, Bolsheviks signed their own death warrant when they cemented in their constitution principles that cultivated ethnic ... A) Skills Training: The primary motor cortex is made up of interconnected neural assemblies (localized groups of neurons with similar inputs and outputs), that control movements in the fingers, hands, and legs. This coordinated activation can then be made complex and lets us do multijoint movements such as reaching. Before the study the theory was that during skills learning, the connectivity between these neural assemblies change. These changes were viewed as differences in cortical synapse numbers, synaptic strength, and the topography of stimulation evoked movement representation. They did a study with adult rats to measure these changes while they do an obstacle course. Some rats had to learn limb placement and posture control to finish a complex obstacle course, and the others walked an unobstructed course. The rats that were required to learn limb placement and posture control because of the complex obstacle course, showed increases in synapse number within the motor cortex compare to the rats doing the simple obstacle. The synaptic changes seen here are thought to show the changes in cortical circuitry that results in the reorganization of the neural assemblies encoding movement. Therefore proving the theory correct. All this data indicates that training on a skill produces alterations in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While there are skeptics that believe that global warming is just a hoax, there are many undeniable phenomenons happening around the world. The effects of climate change, in the long run, will be catastrophic if it is left alone. In just the past two months, there have been four hurricanes that made landfall in North America, and a wildfire more aggressive than has ever been seen before, ripping through California, killing forty people and leveling almost six thousand structures. Millions of Americans are displaced due to these unusually aggressive storms and the fires raging throughout California. Arctic species have seen massive reductions in their populations, with less food to eat, and less mates to breed with. The poem reflects mainly the character s reaction to the tiger, rather than the tiger s reaction to the world. The character is inquiring about the location of the Creator of the tiger when he says, In what distant deeps or skies (5). Surely, the poem is as inspiring as it is ambiguous. Someone that is of no religion would think other wise or maybe someone wouldn t care who made the tiger. Blake uses symbols to express the strength of the tiger and its Creator. The main symbol in The Tyger is the tiger itself. The tiger is formed on a number of ideas, which is the eye of man and God, but it is also a sign of the very same eye, which created it. The word fire is used to exemplify the aggressive character of the tiger, Burnt the fire of thine eyes? (6). The fire can be used to describe the way the tiger sees and is seen by other people. When a person sees or comes into contact with a tiger, the person gets tense right away because we know that one false move and the tiger may attack. This example shows how vicious and hostile the tiger can be just as a hurricane. The Creator could also be described as a hostile person also. This might be a depiction of himself. The sign of fire is leading in the structure of the poem. To know the foundation of the fire is to know the source of the Creator. Natural Law Of Shakespeare s King Lear Amber Li Dr. Andreacchi ENG4U1 January 6, 2015 Natural Law in Shakespeare s King Lear King Lear is one of the most famous tragedies, which was written by Shakespeare between 1603 and 1606. During that period, the social unrest swept across the whole England, and the rise of capitalism led to moral turpitude. With the high speed economic development, many old ethics and moralities had been gradually forgotten and destroyed. Therefore, King Lear can be seen as a true portrayal of the social phenomena of this time. The play explores the Natural law, which can be easily found in terms of power relationships between human beings parents over children, husbands over wives, and king over subjects. The notion of natural social order in King Lear is not only simply as one of the most essential themes, but also the foundation of the entire play. First and foremost, at the core of this play lies the filiation between parents and children. Shakespeare shows the significance of this relationship through Edmund, Goneril and Regan, who do not respect their parents. At the beginning of the play, Edmund has no any entitlement under the unjust British Hierarchy and the social customs at that time because he is a bastard. • 28. Thesis On Foot Binding According to Li Xiu ying, a victim of foot binding, I knew that already because every woman I ever saw had bound feet. Before the Communists came I never even heard of a woman not having bound feet. Li Xiu ying was stating that almost every Chinese women at that time had experienced foot binding; it was considered as a rule for young women and not an exception. Foot binding began in tenth century China and was very popular during the Song and the Qing dynasties. Although it caused many health complications and lifelong disabilities, foot binding became popular by a process of displaying status and also was embraced as a symbol of beauty in Chinese culture. Women were affected by foot binding in many ways, especially physically, socially, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason for this process was the purpose of marital reasons. This was the most common reason for one to do foot binding; what men most desired in a bride was a foot size of three inches, also known as the golden lotus . It was mildly acceptable for some women to have four inch feet, which was known as the silver lotus , although for a woman to have five inch feet or longer, called the bronze lotus , it was simply dismissed and it would be very hard for one to find a husband. The size of their foot was to be very small indeed; for families that had daughters to marry off, the size of their feet was its own form of currency . Why they upheld this tradition for so long, was for men to be able to control women during their marriage. They were said to be less independent when their feet were bound. Not only did this process allow men to dominate women, it also made them victims of a society that showed brutality towards women. Some researchers say that foot binding deepened the control of women by making them more dependent on males, because it would minimize their movements and enforce better obedience, since women with bound feet were physically unable to travel far from their homes. This enabled women to have very little authority over their life. Another act of accommodation was the role of family honor installed with the procession. This was the second most common reason for one to do foot binding; by binding their daughter s feet, families maintained a good reputation and social status. Although foot binding is now looked upon as an act of cruelty, at that time, it was seen as a sign of wealth. It symbolized this for a girl s family because it showed that they were wealthy by not allowing their daughter to work. For this reason, families would also take pride in the fact of their daughter s small feet. Foot binding started out as a fashionable statement from the expression ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As for the picture below, as the aperture gets bigger, lesser amounts of light is exposed to the camera, thus the picture gets darker. At the shutter speed of 1/1000, the water fountain appears frozen. To ensure that we use the correct shutter speed, we have to use the formula of Shutter Speed = 1/Focal Length. The slower the shutter speed, the more light it lets in. ISO stands for International Standards Organization, which standardizes the camera sensitivity ratings. Changing the ISO setting adjusts the sensitivity of the sensor to light. ISO can also be adjusted to obtain good exposure. As the ISO increases, the camera becomes more sensitive, thus the image taken at ISO 12900 appears grainier as compared to the image taken at ISO 100. To ensure a picture of good quality, we have to maintain the adequate amount of light entering the camera. For example to shoot a dolphin jumping out of the water, it is taken ISO 320 as the setting is not very bright, 1/1600 shutter speed to freeze the dolphin jumping out of the water and f/5.6. However, this aperture gives it a shallow depth of field. Since we want an appropriate amount of focus in the background and we cannot change the shutter speed or the image will turn blurry, we change the ISO.
