Mistakes In Into Thin Air
Mistakes That Lead to Tragedies and Precautions That Lead to Success
The best way to bring attention to a problem is tragedy. Unfortunately, this means reform will not
happen until the loss or harm of life has already occurred. One example of this was seen in New
York, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. This fire was the cause of 146 deaths and many more
injuries; however, this lead to new law regulating work safety standards. While this is a tragedy
that caused reform in 1911, the same method of reform stands today. This can be seen in the novel,
Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. The novel is an account of what happened on the mountain during
the 1996 Everest expedition. While the expedition started off with high hopes and dreamers ready ...

In order to continue climbing Everest, many aspects of climbing need to be improved before more
people endanger their lives to try and reach the roof of the world. The guides have some areas that
need the most reform. During the ascension of Everest the guides made a plethora mistakes that
seemed insignificant but only aided in disaster. The guides first mistake is allowing any bloody
idiot [with enough determination] up Everest (Krakauer 153). By allowing any bloody idiot with
no climbing experience to try and climb the most challenging mountain in the world, the guides are
almost inviting trouble. Having inexperienced climbers decreases the trust a climbing team has in
one another, causing an individual approach to climbing the mountain and more reliance on the
guides. While this approach appears fine, this fault is seen in addition to another in Scott Fischer s
expedition Mountain Madness. Due to the carefree manner in which the expedition was run, clients
[moved] up and down the mountain independently during the acclimation period, [Fischer] had to
make a number of hurried, unplanned excursions between Base Camp and the upper camps when
several clients experienced problems and needed to be escorted down, (154). Two problems present
in the Mountain Madness expedition were seen before the summit push: the allowance of
inexperienced climbers and an unplanned climbing regime. A third problem that aided disaster was
the difference in opinion in regards to the responsibilities of a guide on Everest. One guide went
down alone many hours ahead of the clients and went without supplemental oxygen (318). These
three major issues: allowing anyone up the mountain, not having a plan to climb Everest and
differences in opinion. All contributed to the disaster on Everest in

Differences In Present Day South America
The diversity of our world has been created by many explorers throughout history. Who were
curious and eager to find riches for their countries and to colonize them. One of the most famous
explorer known to this date is Christopher Columbus. He was an Italian explorer who got
sponsored by the Spanish kind king Ferdinand I. Columbus initially wanted to travel to India and
China to capture the spices, money and other valuable possessions. Yet he was unaware of the fact
that in the way of India, and China he would encounter another vast piece of land known as the
Americas. When he had landed in the Caribbean s he would unknowingly make huge changes

The Science Of The Signs
The Science of the Signs Western society has many philosophical forms. We have falsificationism,

(pg. 2)
With Science and technology study, positivism was challenged and it has benefited from it. One
paradigms, Actor Network Theory, has helped spread the positivism. Actor Network Theory was
developed Michel Callon, Bruno Latour, and John Law. (pg. 81) It was created to understand social
aspects of science and technology. Actor Network Theory deals with human and non human
entities. Both entities form an association, combining with other actors to form a strong network.
These actors form a connection to push their agenda. This could be making a new scientific
discovery, or it could be stopping a company s product production. These actors work together for
their cause. It would not be a network if every member entertains their own plan.
In positivism, there are actors that push for this movement. The actors are the philosophers and
scientist. The narrative was to bring together the worlds findings. Bring everything that was
learning to grow more. Working together with the world, rather than separating the different
factions. They pushed to create a popular movement. People like the notion of sharing information
amongst all walks of life. Falsification also shared information, but it was limited. Chemist and
biologist would share their information, but would not work with a philosopher. Another group is the

Overcoming the Challenge of Tobacco Use
Introduction
Today one of our biggest challenges as public health professionals is tobacco use which is a leading
cause of deaths that be prevented with public health campaign intervention programs. According to
the American Lung Association (2010), 6.4 million current child smokers will die a premature
death from a smoking related disease. The campaign is working to give teenagers information on
understanding the health risks associated with smoking and long term health risk when they
become adults. By using the support of different models on behavior following we can gain a better
understanding on how and why adolescents respond the way they do to smoking. It is important
that a campaign on tobacco and nicotine emphasizes awareness ... Show more content on

The message should not send out mixed signals as we create the information of the end product. In
order to ensure that this happens the information has to be readily available for all stakeholders
involved in this process.
Adolescents are becoming frequent users of the World Wide Web for social media networks
subsequently, they do not frequent the web for information regarding tobacco cessation
intervention programs. The added bonus to this public health campaign is how social media on
frequented by adolescents such as Facebook and Twitter will provide educational literature in
more of a new and exciting way. Resnick and Siegle (2013) notes the use of media allows
marketers to disseminate information instantly, reaching broader audience, therefore increasing
public engagement . By using this approach, Mermelstein (2003), explains how the Internet can
create social support networks of teen quitters chat rooms that will facilitate initial cessation
enhancing long term abstinence. Based on the assessment by Mermelstein, I have to agree that a
social support network will be accepted without any challenges or barriers. The educational
literature will also come paper based as noted by Walker (2014) in the form of pamphlets, poster
boards, and flyers . In her previous assignment Walker (2014) notes the advantages and drawbacks
of all youth and teenagers may be without computer access. We want to build a community program

The Crime Of Serial Murder And Mass Murder
Rotten Apples
The act of Serial murder and mass murder have similar characteristics, however they are not the
same. Before they can be defined, it is necessary to first understand what exactly constitutes murder.
According to the United States Code section 1111, murder is defined as the unlawful killing of a
human being with malice aforethought (FindLaw, 2014). With that said, according to the Federal
Bureau of Investigation, the term serial murder implies that there are at least three different murder
events at three different locations, with a cooling off period between each event (Ramsland, 2009).
Individuals who perpetrate the crime of serial murder are referred to as serial killers. The term serial
killer was coined in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While serial murder has a definition that contains certain specific characteristics, there is no
generic profile of a serial murderer. According to the FBI, each serial killer is individualized by
their motivations for killing, method of operation, and behavior at the crime scene. However, lack
of remorse or guilt, impulsivity, predatory behavior, the need for control, and sensation seeking
are all common traits to most serial killers (Federal, 2005). Modus Operandi, commonly known as
MO, is also a characteristic that may individualize one serial killer from another. The MO reflects
what actions the killer performed to commit the crime in question. This includes everything from
the ruse used to lure, type of restraint used, to the way that the killer actually consummates the
murder. A serial killer s MO can change, as he learns from his past mistakes and improves his
tradecraft. On the other hand, a Signature is a discernable regularity that occurs at each crime scene
event that can link a particular homicide to others. According to FBI profiler John Douglas, a
signature, is a ritual, something the subject does intentionally for emotional satisfaction something
that isn t necessary to perpetuate the crime (John Douglas in Freeman, 2014). Some serial killers
pose their victims in a certain way or leave them in a particular location after consummating the
murder. Another form of signature may be the technique employed to

Automatic Response To Stress Essay
Psychological and physical well being and the overall quality of life are under a constant threat of
stress and thus, psychological and medical sciences have long been concerned with studying stress
response. Cox (1979) claimed that because of the poor understanding and defining it, the concept of
stress tends to be rather elusive. The term, stress, commonly describes any physchological or
physical alteration that deranges the organism s homeostasis (or balance). This essay reviews
some of the biological factors involved in stress and it has been organized in the following way.
The paper begins by briefly introducing the concept of stress. It will then go on to discus and
describe the automatic response (fight or flight reaction),... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The trouble begins when multiple life incidents hit us all at once and this is because during periods
of dramatic changes, individuals are more vulnerable to stress (Jones Bright, 2001). Therefore,
stress has got the ability to activate pretty every system within the body, however, through a rather
rudimentary mechanism which lies within the cellular level (Shreedhar et al., 2010).
Humans experience similar dramatic physiological stress responses as other species. That is to
say, the physique response to a stressor prepares the body for rapid physical action (fight or flight).
More rarely, as Rudinger (1988) argue, sitting paralysed by fear may constitute another response to
stress. The fight or flee stress response involve extremely rapid, virtually immediate, changes within
the muscular systems and organs (Pinel, 2006).
When the sense organs (of hearing or sight) receive the alarm signal they instantly pass it to the
brain. Then the brain sends messages to the muscles and organs and therefore, muscles contract,
often very abruptly. If the state of alertness is prolonged, muscle activity and tension remain high in
order to prepare the body of reacting quickly to any subsequent stimuli. In a fight or flight situation,
heart rate changes. Furthermore, there are a series of chain reactions. The first thing that happens is
that the heart starts to beat faster in order to pump a copious supply of blood to the essential

The Importance Of Being Earnest Truth And Truth Essay
In The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, Algernon tells Jack that The truth is rarely
pure and never simple and because the truth is this way, it makes modern literature a complete
impossibility (10). Throughout this play, all the characters try to find their own truths, some by
bunburying and others by writing their own truths. Either way, Wilde makes the truth about his
characters nuanced and ambiguous, which in turn allows his audience to question his true
intentions for The Importance of Being Earnest. For the characters, the truth is hard to figure out
because there is confusion between things being serious or trivial. This confusion is the source of
inspiration for the characters to create their own truths, which are clearer,... Show more content on

The Impact Of Applied Psychology On The Field Of Psychology
Consider the Impact of Applied and Behaviorist Psychology on the Field
In this paper I will discuss the impact that applied and behaviorist psychology has had on the field
of psychology. J. R. Angell at the University of Chicago is possibly one of the most advanced of
the functional psychologists, predicted that American psychology was prepared for better objectivity.
In 1910, he stated that it is possible that the term consciousness would more than likely vanish from
psychology, even more than the term soul had vanished (p. 209).
The most significant impact on the field of psychology was the explication of consciousness and its
functions. During the early 20th century, psychology began to changed dramatically; Therefore,
consciousness had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Angell also viewed the introspective study of consciousness as one of the most important method of
psychological research during the mid nineteenth century (Schultz Schultz, 2012).
What persons or ideas in early behaviorism would carry out the trend that Angell predicted?
During the nineteenth century, most psychologists viewed the emergence of functionalism as
being evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Therefore, the primary difference was in the subject
matter of their study; while structuralism attempted to examine and describe regulations concerning
psychological practices, functionalism was the trend that was considered to be more teleological
challenging, and focused more on the concept of how and why.
As a reaction of structuralism, functionalism emerged during the twentieth century. In comparing
structuralism and functionalism, functionalism is believed to have a more significant role in the
development and subject matter of psychology. Although, the role of functionalism was considered
to be strong it was not exclusive because behaviorism was considered by most to be the most
dominant trend of psychology.
John B. Watson (1878 1958) was one of Angell s most promising students at the University of
Chicago. Watson (1913) eventually became founder of the behaviorist school of psychology. He
carried out the trend of Angell s theoretical prediction in early behaviorism and became the first

The Road In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
The name of this book written by Cormac McCarthy, the Road, can always drive the readers into a
misunderstanding that it is a Road style work. However, it is actually a apocalyptic story which
includes bunch of description and discussion about belief, morality and the human nature. It
actually presents how people will act under a extreme terrible situation when the civilizationtotally
does not exist. Actually McCarthy is not the only one who uses a lawless environment to analysis
the humanity. Lord of the Flies by William Golding is also a story which puts the characters in a
raw environment and presents their action. These two works have the similarities in the way they
set up the stories, the type of conflicts and the way they end the stories; and this similarities
actually show how the things described in the stories are commonly deemed, and help the two
stories to support each other s ideas. Differ from the Road, Lord of the Flies is actually a war based
story. However, even though the missions of the writing might be different, both the authors make
similar settings for the story. In the Road, the characters are in the environment where the
resources and the rules no longer exist. In Lord of the Flies, the characters are in an island where
is also out of anything civilized. It might be doubtful that how McCathy is sure his description
under that situation can be confirmed as logical and real, but what is described in Lord of the Flies
can confirm it. More

Alternative Energy In California

Alternative Energy
California s reliance on high polluting fossil fuels requires that the state strongly emphasize the
development of Alternative Energy Sources (AES) such as hydrogen power, electric vehicle,
hydroelectricity, as well as wind and solar power. It proposes that a wholesale move towards AES
will improve life in the state in three distinct ways. First, it will increase Californians consumer
reliance on finite non renewable energy. Second, it will create jobs in the state by generating a
domestic AES production infrastructure. Finally, it will reap enormous environmental benefits
whereby fossil fuel emissions will be cut significantly. While the move away... Show more content

A shift towards wholesale AES usage would entail a significant reduction of the state s greenhouse
gas emissions. Currently, our use of fossil fuels and consequent greenhouse gas emissions are
causing climate change, destroying natural habitats, and causing ill effects in terms of our
population s health, through pollution related illness (Atabani et al., 2012). While AES is
proposed to be the most viable solution to decreasing the ill effects of fossil fuels, some propose
there are ways that California can and should utilize our current fuels in more environmentally safer
ways for before shifting directly towards alternative fuel. With regards to CO2 emissions from coal,
some propose that so called Clean Coal, or Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) represents an
environmentally viable energy production strategy whereby the United States and California can
use their abundant coal reserves, and trap the CO2 emissions, thus burning the product without

Reflection Paper On Gym
The Dreaded Gym Class I don t really enjoy exercise, the sweating, being out of breath etc.
Therefore, I would never guess that a high school gym class would influence how I would be
spending the rest of my life. Well, it never changed my opinion on exercise, but it did help me
discover a passion for educationand how people should be treated. I always assumed that I would
be a vet, healing animals and having customers come from far and wide. However, around the
age of twelve, I realized you have to be willing to put animals down in order to do that job.
Shortly, I decided that I need to rethink my career choice. The gym is unwelcoming as ever despite
the schoolcolors being flaunted on every surface in the large room. A cold draft of air blows

Designing A Whole New Ultra Poreux Cellulose Based Material
Recent years witnessed a momentum of consumers towards products biodegradable and designed
according to more environmentally friendly ways of the environment. On the other hand, the
increase in the price of oil and its scarcity helped bringing forward new products of natural origin.
The objective of this article which is part of this perspective is to prepare and characterize a whole
new ultra poreux cellulosebased material, called aerogel.
Even if their discovery date of the beginning of the 1930s by Kristler, aerogels are considered at
present the most promising new materials in the field of thermal super insulation. Not happy to be
the subject of much research in this area, their high level of nanoporosite characteristic makes them
indispensable in the development of batteries to fuel. The multitude of organic, inorganic or hybrid
materials, and the appearance of new methods of preparation and extraction offer prospects for use
in filtering system, ultrafine dust capture...
Aerogels can be inorganic (silica based) or organic (example of resorcinol formaldehyde). They
have a very low thermal conductivity, and are often super insulation, but they are relatively
fragile (silica aerogel) or toxic (organic aerogels). A new avenue of research was recently
conducted in the aim of developing type aerogels materials bio sources and super insulation. Thus
aerogels made from cellulose or derivatives, or other polysaccharides were investigated (for

True Grit
Title
I believe that True Grit properly titles this book. Throughout the story almost all of the characters
displayed some of kind of bravery or courage, a.k.a grit(courage and resolve; strength of character).
Mattie Ross especially had grit. She was only fourteen when she took on a daring task most people
wouldn t, to find fugitives in the Choctaw Territory and avenge her father s death. Mattie was the
biggest example of True Grit , in my opinion. Another was Rooster Cogburn. He went rode
bravely, into a shootout, with four brutal criminals all by himself. Almost all of the characters
showed some kind of grit in their own way, but Mattie and Rooster were my favorites.
4. Theme
The themes of True Grit that stood out the most to me were friendship, vengeance, and justice.
The whole story is about Mattie going to avenge her father s death and find Tom Chaney, who
murdered her father. In the end Mattie gets takes a shot at Tom, which doesn t kill him. After she
did Mattie fell into a pit right behind her. Later on Rooster kills Tom then came into the cave and

The murder of women in the name of honor is a gender specific form of discrimination and

Drunk Driving And Sobriety Analysis
Many studies show that about 50 billion dollars worth of alcohol crashes occur a year ( Drunk
Driving ). Alcohol messes up communication pathways that affect coordination and response time
to the body. A variety of tests are used to test for drunk driving. About one third of all drivers
arrested or convicted of drunk driving are repeat offenders. Sobriety tests are three commonly used
tests that combine physical and mental health ( Drunk Driving Gale). The horizontal gaze, walk
and turn, and the one leg stand are the commonly used tests ( Drunk Driving Gale). These three
tests are what are mainly used to convict someone of being drunk. A variety of punishments such
as fines, time in jail, suspension, restriction, or revocation of the defendant s drivers license can

Twelfth Night Gender Roles
Throughout the course of the quarter we read various novels in which the issue of gender arose
significantly, whether it was opposing or accepting gender normalities, cross dressing, or a
patriarchal society, the topic was present. In William Shakespeare s, Twelfth Night, gender is
presented in two ways: the first way is Viola, who cross dresses as a man to hide her identity and
wealth and the second, is when the women in the play go after what they desire, even if it goes
against the normalities of gender in the Elizabethan Era. In Frances Burney s, Evelina, women give
into the expected subordination towards men as it expected in the novel s patriarchal society. But

But why should I allow myself to be humbled by a man who can suffer his reason to be thus

Mrs. Selwyn s actions are frowned upon because her directness and savviness is seen as

Cancer In The Elderly Essay
4 Ways to Stave Off Colorectal Cancer in the Elderly
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of cancer affecting the elderly. Thankfully, there
are a number of actions seniors can take to prevent this disease. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle
and getting regular screening tests, seniors have a better chance of preventing colorectal or colon
cancer.
1. Adhere to Dietary Guidelines
One of the best ways to prevent colorectal cancer is to follow a healthy diet. Elderly people at risk
for cancer should limit their intake of red meat and processed meats, which means less bacon,
bologna, hamburgers, or steak. This might be a tall order for some meat aficionados, but it s
believed that carcinogens may form when red meat is cooked at high temperatures. Red meat also
contains iron, which can damage DNA. For seniors who eat red meat daily, cutting back to several
times a week is a must.
After cutting down on red meat consumption, it s important to replace unhealthy foods with
nutritious alternatives. Beans are a good substitute for meat, and fruits and vegetables are an
essential part of a preventative diet. People who primarily eat plant based foods are less likely to
develop colon cancer.
2. Regular Screenings
Seniors at risk for colorectal cancer should get regular screening tests. There are a number of ...

Christ of the Holy Bible and Dionysus of Euripides Essay
Christ of the Holy Bible and Dionysus of Euripides
Christ resembles Dionysus in many ways. Is it possible that Christ is simply an extension of the
Dionysian myth? Though the concepts of wine and faith unite the two, the idea of revenge
compared to self sacrifice separates the two deities. Dionysus fits the Greek understanding of
vengeful and selfish God that bear more anthropomorphic traits than Godly traits. Christ, however,
transcends human desires for revenge and acts in self sacrifice. This is the key separation between
them.
The similarity between the two Gods is striking. Dionysus is associated with wine and revelry.
Christ forever associated himself with wine and celebration through the act of Communion and the

It is said that before he died he cried out, It is finished. The last words that the chorus speaks echo
the same thought. It is finished. That is not the only surprising thing. The Bible tells of God s
struggle to find a way to salvage the relationship with his children. The last line of the Bacchae
reverberates the concept of the Godly struggle to find the right action.
The motives of Dionysus are extremely perplexing to a modern audience. I will go; for that which
fate forbids, can never befall me. For this thy mockery be sure Dionysus will exact a recompense
of thee even the god whose existence thou deniest; for thou art injuring him by haling me to prison
(Euripides 28).
John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes
in him shall not perish but have eternal life. The quote from the Bacchae is rooted in Dionysus s
individual desire for revenge upon those who snubbed him by not believing in him. Nowhere in
the text is Dionysus noted for performing any large acts of self sacrifice. The story of Jesus, on
the other hand is based in self sacrifice. According to John 3:16, Christ allowed himself to die on
the cross to take on the pain of every person in the world. The contrast in motivations between the
two divinities is startling whether or not one believes either to be truth.
Jesus is reputed to have

The Minoan Civilization On The Mediterranean Island Of...
The Minoan Civilization began on the Mediterranean island of Crete. It was first excavated by Sir
Arthur Evans. The possible civilization sparked his interest when a charm that the Minoans use to
wear was found, and it was brought to his attention. He started at Knossos, where the possible
civilization became a reality. He uncovered multiple palaces, which have all been named since then.
They are named: Knossos, Phaistos, Malia, and Zakros. Each one shows signs of religion, trade,
and politics. They believed these palaces controlled the Minoan civilization. These Palaces seemed
to co exist on this small island because there are no signs of wall fortifications or protection.
Although they were able to stand their ground when challenged because they made swords,
daggers, and armor. The Minoan civilization was intellectually advanced for their time.
Hieroglyphics, writing, art, frescos, and pottery. This civilization created three different writing
styles, although the first was not complex and structure enough to be considered a writing style. It
only involved pictures and symbols simply drawn to express a thought. This type of writing was
mainly found in Knossos and Phaistos. The next type of style was called Script A. Cretan
Hieroglyphs and Linear A were likely very closely related and in fact might be two scripts of the
same writing system, but we do not know enough about either system to draw any conclusions at
this time (ancientscripts.com). Historians are unable to

The Mystery Of The Unicorn Hunters
The Problem with Banishment
With the name The Unicorn Hunters, one might think this group consists of delusional people, but
on the contrary The Unicorn Hunters are a group created for Lake Superior State University
(LSSU) to garner more support for the school. W.T. (Bill) Rabe created the Unicorn Hunters after

first began in 1975 76 (Lake Superior State University). This list consists of words and phrases that
people wish to banish from our language. The past lists show words that people generally disliked,

After looking through the lists created by LSSU, the Freshman Composition I class created their

by analyzing the data the class arrived to several conclusions about the implications of the data.
Group A, my group, was assigned to show how to make a table of the top ten words, complete with

Atrocities in Stafford s Traveling Through the Dark Essays
Atrocities in Stafford s Traveling Through the Dark
Is a drive just a drive, or is it a metaphor that imparts appreciation for life s fragility while
simultaneously lamenting man s inability to appropriately confront, or understand, death? William
Stafford s Traveling Through the Dark illustrates the mechanisms by which seemingly mundane
events become probes into the mystery and ambiguity of the human condition.
The poem s situation is simple, a lone traveler driving along a desolate canyon road spots a felled
deer; the traveler, desiring neither to hit the deer, nor by swerving to avoid it, hurtle his car over
the canyon precipice, stops his vehicle and proceeds to push the fallen animal over the canyon face,

Yet, he is not totally at ease with the choice he is compelled to make, he hesitates: I thought hard
for us all my only swerving then pushed her over the edge into the river (17 18). He recognizes
the preciousness of the fawn s life, but must act dispassionately regardless. Swerving, deviating
from the path he knows he must follow, might have cost him his life on the road; his swerving here
is of a different nature, mental or emotional, yet its result is still death.
The poem s language emphasizes the inevitability and finality of the traveler s confrontation.
Alliterated d consonant sounds, as in death , pervade poem s first and second stanzas: dark , deer ,
dead , doe , even stiffened and cold . These words evoke feelings of deliberate doom that transcend
their literal definitions and thud with terminal authority. Contrastingly, the repetition of the Ocirc;
vowel sound in the third stanza (warm and born) creates an atmosphere as inviting and secure as a
womb.
The poem s language also gives rise to specific images. The deer s description, ...stood by the
heap...a recent killing; / she had stiffened already, almost cold (3 4), paints a somber picture of
death. Words like heap , stiffened , and cold contribute to the impression of lifelessness.
However, language is also used to impart vitality. The traveler s

Virtual School Reform Research Paper
Virtual School Reform
EDF 6607 Education in America

1. The problem addressed in this paper is the failure of virtual education to perform at levels
consistent with the traditional brick and mortar school counterpart. Virtual school falls under the
school choice reform, and on the surface seems like a viable alternative to those who find
traditional school to be problematic. Some reasons for switching to a virtual education include
overcrowded classrooms that do not allow for one on one instruction or differentiation of
instruction from teachers due to too many students in the classroom, pacing of the curriculum that
is either too fast or too slow, and lack of choice of courses in schools.

Pros And Cons Of Graduated Licenses
He s... dead. One more teenager gone due to cars. Teenagers are driving cars, but are they doing
it safely? With the amount of teenage lives lost in car accidents, people are trying to find a
solution to stop them. Some choose to side for waiting until they are 18, while others are
choosing to side with getting graduated licenses. Graduated licenses are the better choice. First,
with a graduated license, everyone gets the same education on how to drive a car. You would go
to take a class the rest of the world is taking and only have to take that subject once. People
cannot say they did not receive the same teachings as everyone else. They cannot drive horribly
and expect to be okay on the road. Graduated licenses would still allow people

Maria said that the children have an inner force, it gives them the strength and energy to achieve
potentially. When you give a child guidance and freedom, they focus mainly on what they need to
know. Children have more confidence and they do not need to rely on the teachers. Maria had put
optimism and humanism in her teaching.
Montessori approach, she made the school beautiful and careful environment for the children.
Didactic materials, so she could meet the needs of each child at their level of development. The

Observation is a key method, it is a way for the adults to learn about what the child needs. For
example, if you see a child hammering on objects this means that the child is involved in the
activity so we give him a drum. This is how observation can help and achieve a child s requirement.
Following the Child
The child will show you what they need to do, what to develop in themselves and what are the
areas they need to be challenged in. The aim of the children who persevere in their work with an
object is certainly not to learn ; they are drawn to it by the needs of their inner life, which must be
recognized and developed by its means. Maria Montessori.
Following the child around in the classroom will help you find out a little more about the child. If
they want to climb, let them climb in a safe manner. Do not be overprotective or they will always
rely on the teachers. It is better for the child to understand and be mature from a younger age as it
will help them in the future. Also it is best not to tell the child what to do all the time, the child
needs to familiarise themselves within their environment. One thing ever child needs is freedom
and it is better to give that to the child. Keep presenting the child with some choices of different
toys so they are fully focused and engaging in the activity. Also, step away from the child and let

Dreamland Analysis
Dreamland Discussion Two The second reading of Dreamland continued telling the story of the
heroin drug dealer, Enrique and brought the Oxycontin epidemic in the United States to the
forefront.
As I read about the journal that Porter and Jick wrote in the New England Journal of Medicine, I
was shocked and appalled that no one in the medical community disputed the claim that the level of
addiction in these opioids was low. I find it hard to believe that no one in the medical community
stepped up and opposed these irresponsible claims. As I continued to read about Enrique, my
conflicted feelings about him continued to grow. I felt this way because everything he was doing
was to help his family, however it is so hard to overlook how many people s

How Does Masculinity Affect Young Men Today
With life being as challenging as it is, it seems to be that it is only revolving around the challenges
that women face, but you can t forget that men also go through the same challenges. With
everything on the news and current media being about feminism people often forget that men also
have problems and deal with hardships like anyone else. This leads me to say that one of the main
troubles that young men have today is how society defines masculinity. Society plays a huge role in
a young mans life due to all the social media outputs so how all these outputs portray masculinity is
a huge problem for the young men of today.
To begin with, the way society portrays masculinity is in a sort of fashion that oppresses young
men by not only making

Mowgli s Brothers Compare And Contrast
Have you ever thought of how cool it would be if animals could talk? Two of my favorite
characters in Mowgli s Brothers are Mother Wolf and Father Wolf. The author, Rudyard Kipling,
uses personification to bring the animals to life. In Mowgli s Brothers, Mother Wolf and Father
Wolf find a baby in the jungle bravely escaping from Shere Kahn, which they named Mowgli. Mom
and Dad thought about how useful he could be to the pack in the future. They bring Mowgli to
the wolf council to see if he could be part of the pack/family. At the council, Bagheera and Baloo
convince Akeelah and the pack to keep him by buying him for a bull. Mother Wolf and Father
Wolf have similar and different human characteristics. They both are courageous because Mother
Wolf stood up for Mowgli, and Father Wolf was ready to attack whatever was going up the hill. At
the same time, they are also different because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mother and Father Wolf are both different and similar in some ways.
In the fictional story, Mowgli s Brothers, Mother Wolf and Father Wolf have many characteristics
traits. But the ones that stood out the most were that they are both courageous. Mother Wolf
demonstrates that he is a courageous because she stood up to Shere Khan, the big, bad tiger.. In the
story it states, Mother Wolf shook herself clear of the cubs and sprang forward...facing the
blazing eyes of Shere Khan. Mother Wolf was heroic to stand up to Shere Khan, even when her
weak, defenseless cubs were behind her. This showed that Mother Wolf is a courageous because
she was brave enough to stand up to Shere Khan. Another example, of Mother Wolf s courage is
when she was going to fight for death for Mowgli. In the story is states, Mother Wolf got ready
for what would be her last fight if things came to fighting. This shows Mother Wolf was ready to
attack all of the pack if she had to. The story

The Story Of Rubik s Cube
Today I want to share my particular story of Rubik s Cube with you. I had an interview with one
university admission office last November. It was a pleasant experience overall, however, when
I mentioned Rubik s Cube to the officer, he did not seem fascinated at all. It makes me reflect on
my affection of Rubik s Cube. Just like the interviewer, many people consider it as one type of
the toys, since they do not know much about it. In my opinion, I think Rubik s Cube is more
than just a toy. It has always been a brain sport and even part of life to me. After I got rejected
from Cornell, I was not disappointed but sad. I started to realize that the Rubik s Cube would be
more influential if more people know and understand it. As a result, I began

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)
Description: Polycystic kidney disease, also known as PKD, is a genetic disorder where clusters
of cysts develop in the kidneys. Cysts are fluid filled sacs that vary in size depending on how
much fluid is in the sac. This disease impacts the ability of the kidneys to filter waste products
from the blood. In many cases, the growth of the cysts causes the kidneys to become enlarged
which can lead to kidneyfailure. There are three types of polycystic kidney disease: autosomal
dominant (ADPKD), autosomal recessive (ARPKD), and acquired cystic kidney disease (ACKD).
Autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney diseases are both genetic
disorders, while acquired cystic kidney disease is not inherited. Autosomal dominant is the... Show

In order to deal with pain, many health care providers suggest taking over the counter
medication like aspirin. High blood pressure is one of the most common symptoms in patients
with PKD. Many patients have to make lifestyle changes and take various medications to lower
blood pressure. Some lifestyle changes that may need to take place include a strict diet or an
increase in exercise. About 50 percent of people with PKD experience kidney failure by the age
of 60, and 70 percent will have kidney failure by age 70 (National Kidney Foundation, 2016).
Although there is no way to reverse kidney failure, there are ways to prolong the life of the
kidneys. Patients either need to receive dialysis or receive a kidney transplant. There are two
types of dialysis. The first is hemodialysis. This is where a machine is used to filter toxins from
the blood. The second is peritoneal dialysis. This is where the lining of the abdomen is used to
filter blood from inside the body. A kidney transplant is when the unhealthy kidney is removed
from the patient s body and a healthy one is put in. The healthy kidney typically comes from a
family member to reduce the risk of rejection (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and

To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf Essay
To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf
When speaking of modernism in the work Virginia Woolf, scholars too readily use her innovations
in style and technique as the starting point for critical analysis, focusing largely on the ways in
which her prose represents a departure from the conventional novel in both style and content. To
simply discuss the extent of her unique style, however, is to overlook the role of tradition in her
creation of a new literary identity. In To the Lighthouse, Woolf s invention reveals itself instead as a
reinvention, a recasting of the conventional through the use of the traditional. Within the text, this
relationship manifests itself in Lily Briscoe s relationship with Mrs. Ramsay and the extent to which

To the Lighthouse most appropriately fits this latter definition, where Woolf s own discourse
suggests a similar understanding of the term (Zwerdling 180). In a diary entry of 1928, Woolf
notes her reluctance to consider To the Lighthouse a novel, describing it instead as a final act of
remembrance: I used to think of him [father] and mother daily she recalled, but writing The
Lighthouse laid them in my mind. In another entry the same year, Woolf describes To the
Lighthouse as a burial rite, a cathartic elegy in which she expressed some very long felt and deeply
felt emotion...and in expressing it explained it, and then laid it to rest. Contemporary scholars of
Woolf s work have similarly affirmed the importance of the concept of elegy within To the
Lighthouse, asserting as Eavan Boland does that the true text of To the Lighthouse is undoubtedly
Mrs. Ramsay, a figurative representation of Julia Duckworth Stephen, Woolf s mother (Boland 10).
In a letter sent to Woolf after reading the novel, Vanessa Bellfurther reinforces Mrs. Ramsay s
connection to Julia, noting that Woolf had created in Mrs. Ramsay a portrait of mother which is
more like her to me than anything I could have ever conceived of as possible. Through Woolf s
own comments as well as those familiar with her life, it therefore

On an Adventure
One day Mo the fox had a brilliant idea.
I m going to go on an adventure.
It was one of those cool spring mornings with the birds singing in the trees and the grass wet with
dew. It was the perfect morning for an adventure.
So Mo packed a day bag and set out. On the way she ran into her brother Finley.
Where are you going? he asked.
On an adventure. She replied.
To the forest?
No.
The mountains?
No.
The river?
I don t know! Mo said impatiently because she was ready to explore the world. I was planning on
walking along the garden path until I got to the end.
Finley laughed at that. It s just rubbish at the end. But may I come with you?
Sure.
So Mo and Finley walked down the long garden path beautiful spring flowers stretching tall and
swaying on each side of them, the heads of vegetables and the beginnings of herbs, it was a
wonderful smell.
Suddenly, they heard an angry, Squeee!!!
Pig. they both said in fear. They hugged each other and shivered.
The bushes in the distance started trembling. The ground started trembling too. Then they saw a
dark round shadow and heard snorts, very loud snorts. They really wanted to run but they were
too frightened and now they were at the edge of the garden path. It was an open field with a pile
of rubbish in the center just like Finley had said.
Addy, the lone wolf was walking around the field.
The fox siblings were scared and didn t know if they should run from the wolf or the pig when they

The Legacy of Imperialism and Democracy Building after World War II
Nagata, Japan Post World War II
Japan was made into a protectorate of America after their unconditional surrender.В№ During the
next seven years, Allied powers occupied Japan. After Japan s military forces were demobilized
and repatriated, the Occupation, led by General Douglas MacArthur of the U.S. army, turned to
the problem of making Japan democratic with the hope that its people would never again be led to
fight a war of aggression. Ultimately, in 1947 a new constitution was adopted with two key
provisions: sovereignty was transferred from the emperor to the people, and Japan as a nation

In 1952, the U.S. Occupation of Japan ended and by 1955 the Japanese economy had regained its
highest prewar production levels. A stable political system was also established with the
conservative and pro American Liberal Democratic Party s control of the government.
Post War National Identity
From the sixties through the mid eighties domestic politics were stable; the Liberal Democratic
Party maintained a solid majority in the Diet (parliament) and emphasized close relations with the
United States. Japan also achieved record economic growth averaging 10 percent a year until the
seventies. Its economy grew from one less productive than Italy to the third largest in the world,
behind only the United States and the Soviet Union. Growth was especially strong in heavy
industry, such as steel, chemicals and machinery, and in advanced technology. Almost totally
dependent on imports for food and energy, Japan began to face increasing protectionism abroad and
serious pollution problems at home. Although Japan has brought pollution under control, trade
frictions continued. As one of the most advanced post industrial societies in the world, the Japanese
people enjoyed prosperity and the benefits of a thriving middle class society.
There was a strong wave of anti nationalism after the end of the war, even avoiding the term

Exothermic Reaction
In this report 3 fuels, ethanol, pentan 1 ol and 1 butanol were tested to determine the experimental
heat of combustion and to decide which would be the best fuel to take on a camping trip.
Combustion takes place when fuels react with oxygen to produce heat (E inst.com, 2015). The heat
created by the burning of fuel is used in the operation of equipment such as boilers and furnaces, as
well as heat being produced, when reactants undergo combustion CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H2O
(water) are formed as byproducts of the exothermic reaction (E inst.com, 2015).
Exothermic reactions occur when the forming of a chemical bond releases energy therefore
creating an exothermic process (Kentchemistry.com, 2015). An exothermic reaction has a negative
deltaH, because the enthalpy of the products is lower than the enthalpy of the reactants of the
system (Chemwiki.ucdavis.edu, 2015). An Endothermic reaction absorbs energy in the form of
heat. In an endothermic reaction deltaH is positive because the enthalpy of the products is higher
than the enthalpy of the reactants in the system (Chemwiki.ucdavis.edu, 2015).
Enthalpy is the amount of heat used/released in a system at constant pressure.

diversity of the library. The diversity of the library theoretically could be 10 24, but practically it
was estimated to be 5Г—1011CFU/ml. By PCR assembly approach, CDR3 region was linked to
the framework using primer listed in table1 (Fig.2b). In order to obtain acceptable diversity, after
insertion and ligation of sequences obtained from overlapping PCR into pcomb3x vector, a total of

  • 2. Mistakes In Into Thin Air Mistakes That Lead to Tragedies and Precautions That Lead to Success The best way to bring attention to a problem is tragedy. Unfortunately, this means reform will not happen until the loss or harm of life has already occurred. One example of this was seen in New York, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. This fire was the cause of 146 deaths and many more injuries; however, this lead to new law regulating work safety standards. While this is a tragedy that caused reform in 1911, the same method of reform stands today. This can be seen in the novel, Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. The novel is an account of what happened on the mountain during the 1996 Everest expedition. While the expedition started off with high hopes and dreamers ready ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to continue climbing Everest, many aspects of climbing need to be improved before more people endanger their lives to try and reach the roof of the world. The guides have some areas that need the most reform. During the ascension of Everest the guides made a plethora mistakes that seemed insignificant but only aided in disaster. The guides first mistake is allowing any bloody idiot [with enough determination] up Everest (Krakauer 153). By allowing any bloody idiot with no climbing experience to try and climb the most challenging mountain in the world, the guides are almost inviting trouble. Having inexperienced climbers decreases the trust a climbing team has in one another, causing an individual approach to climbing the mountain and more reliance on the guides. While this approach appears fine, this fault is seen in addition to another in Scott Fischer s expedition Mountain Madness. Due to the carefree manner in which the expedition was run, clients [moved] up and down the mountain independently during the acclimation period, [Fischer] had to make a number of hurried, unplanned excursions between Base Camp and the upper camps when several clients experienced problems and needed to be escorted down, (154). Two problems present in the Mountain Madness expedition were seen before the summit push: the allowance of inexperienced climbers and an unplanned climbing regime. A third problem that aided disaster was the difference in opinion in regards to the responsibilities of a guide on Everest. One guide went down alone many hours ahead of the clients and went without supplemental oxygen (318). These three major issues: allowing anyone up the mountain, not having a plan to climb Everest and differences in opinion. All contributed to the disaster on Everest in ... Actor Network Theory deals with human and non human entities. Both entities form an association, combining with other actors to form a strong network. These actors form a connection to push their agenda. This could be making a new scientific discovery, or it could be stopping a company s product production. These actors work together for their cause. It would not be a network if every member entertains their own plan. In positivism, there are actors that push for this movement. The actors are the philosophers and scientist. The narrative was to bring together the worlds findings. Bring everything that was learning to grow more. Overcoming the Challenge of Tobacco Use Introduction Today one of our biggest challenges as public health professionals is tobacco use which is a leading cause of deaths that be prevented with public health campaign intervention programs. According to the American Lung Association (2010), 6.4 million current child smokers will die a premature death from a smoking related disease. The campaign is working to give teenagers information on understanding the health risks associated with smoking and long term health risk when they become adults. The added bonus to this public health campaign is how social media on frequented by adolescents such as Facebook and Twitter will provide educational literature in more of a new and exciting way. Resnick and Siegle (2013) notes the use of media allows marketers to disseminate information instantly, reaching broader audience, therefore increasing public engagement . • 7. The Crime Of Serial Murder And Mass Murder Rotten Apples The act of Serial murder and mass murder have similar characteristics, however they are not the same. Before they can be defined, it is necessary to first understand what exactly constitutes murder. According to the United States Code section 1111, murder is defined as the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought (FindLaw, 2014). With that said, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the term serial murder implies that there are at least three different murder events at three different locations, with a cooling off period between each event (Ramsland, 2009). Individuals who perpetrate the crime of serial murder are referred to as serial killers. The term serial killer was coined in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While serial murder has a definition that contains certain specific characteristics, there is no generic profile of a serial murderer. According to the FBI, each serial killer is individualized by their motivations for killing, method of operation, and behavior at the crime scene. However, lack of remorse or guilt, impulsivity, predatory behavior, the need for control, and sensation seeking are all common traits to most serial killers (Federal, 2005). Modus Operandi, commonly known as MO, is also a characteristic that may individualize one serial killer from another. The MO reflects what actions the killer performed to commit the crime in question. This includes everything from the ruse used to lure, type of restraint used, to the way that the killer actually consummates the murder. A serial killer s MO can change, as he learns from his past mistakes and improves his tradecraft. On the other hand, a Signature is a discernable regularity that occurs at each crime scene event that can link a particular homicide to others. According to FBI profiler John Douglas, a signature, is a ritual, something the subject does intentionally for emotional satisfaction something that isn t necessary to perpetuate the crime (John Douglas in Freeman, 2014). • 8. Automatic Response To Stress Essay Psychological and physical well being and the overall quality of life are under a constant threat of stress and thus, psychological and medical sciences have long been concerned with studying stress response. Cox (1979) claimed that because of the poor understanding and defining it, the concept of stress tends to be rather elusive. The term, stress, commonly describes any physchological or physical alteration that deranges the organism s homeostasis (or balance). This essay reviews some of the biological factors involved in stress and it has been organized in the following way. The paper begins by briefly introducing the concept of stress. It will then go on to discus and describe the automatic response (fight or flight reaction),... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The trouble begins when multiple life incidents hit us all at once and this is because during periods of dramatic changes, individuals are more vulnerable to stress (Jones Bright, 2001). Therefore, stress has got the ability to activate pretty every system within the body, however, through a rather rudimentary mechanism which lies within the cellular level (Shreedhar et al., 2010). Humans experience similar dramatic physiological stress responses as other species. That is to say, the physique response to a stressor prepares the body for rapid physical action (fight or flight). More rarely, as Rudinger (1988) argue, sitting paralysed by fear may constitute another response to stress. The fight or flee stress response involve extremely rapid, virtually immediate, changes within the muscular systems and organs (Pinel, 2006). When the sense organs (of hearing or sight) receive the alarm signal they instantly pass it to the brain. Then the brain sends messages to the muscles and organs and therefore, muscles contract, often very abruptly. If the state of alertness is prolonged, muscle activity and tension remain high in order to prepare the body of reacting quickly to any subsequent stimuli. In a fight or flight situation, heart rate changes. Furthermore, there are a series of chain reactions. The first thing that happens is that the heart starts to beat faster in order to pump a copious supply of blood to the essential ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Importance Of Being Earnest Truth And Truth Essay In The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, Algernon tells Jack that The truth is rarely pure and never simple and because the truth is this way, it makes modern literature a complete impossibility (10). Throughout this play, all the characters try to find their own truths, some by bunburying and others by writing their own truths. Either way, Wilde makes the truth about his characters nuanced and ambiguous, which in turn allows his audience to question his true intentions for The Importance of Being Earnest. For the characters, the truth is hard to figure out because there is confusion between things being serious or trivial. This confusion is the source of inspiration for the characters to create their own truths, which are clearer,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it appears in volume form I hope you will order a copy (35). She speaks so highly of her diary that she deems it important enough for publication. Soon, Cecily reveals to Algernon (Ernest) that they have been engaged for the past three months, and that she even broke off their engagement once already to confirm that it was a serious engagement. Cecily tells Ernest that she fell in love with him at first mentioning by her Uncle Jack. Furthermore, Cecily even claims that she was forced to write Ernest s love letters (to her) for him. Cecily has absurdly created an imaginary life in which she happily married a bad boy to break the rules of fiction. Likewise, Gwendolen also thinks very highly of her diary. The Impact Of Applied Psychology On The Field Of Psychology Consider the Impact of Applied and Behaviorist Psychology on the Field In this paper I will discuss the impact that applied and behaviorist psychology has had on the field of psychology. J. R. Angell at the University of Chicago is possibly one of the most advanced of the functional psychologists, predicted that American psychology was prepared for better objectivity. In 1910, he stated that it is possible that the term consciousness would more than likely vanish from psychology, even more than the term soul had vanished (p. 209). Angell also viewed the introspective study of consciousness as one of the most important method of psychological research during the mid nineteenth century (Schultz Schultz, 2012). What persons or ideas in early behaviorism would carry out the trend that Angell predicted? During the nineteenth century, most psychologists viewed the emergence of functionalism as being evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Therefore, the primary difference was in the subject matter of their study; while structuralism attempted to examine and describe regulations concerning psychological practices, functionalism was the trend that was considered to be more teleological challenging, and focused more on the concept of how and why. As a reaction of structuralism, functionalism emerged during the twentieth century. In comparing structuralism and functionalism, functionalism is believed to have a more significant role in the development and subject matter of psychology. Although, the role of functionalism was considered to be strong it was not exclusive because behaviorism was considered by most to be the most dominant trend of psychology. John B. • 12. The Road In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding The name of this book written by Cormac McCarthy, the Road, can always drive the readers into a misunderstanding that it is a Road style work. However, it is actually a apocalyptic story which includes bunch of description and discussion about belief, morality and the human nature. It actually presents how people will act under a extreme terrible situation when the civilizationtotally does not exist. Actually McCarthy is not the only one who uses a lawless environment to analysis the humanity. Lord of the Flies by William Golding is also a story which puts the characters in a raw environment and presents their action. These two works have the similarities in the way they set up the stories, the type of conflicts and the way they end the stories; and this similarities actually show how the things described in the stories are commonly deemed, and help the two stories to support each other s ideas. Differ from the Road, Lord of the Flies is actually a war based story. However, even though the missions of the writing might be different, both the authors make similar settings for the story. In the Road, the characters are in the environment where the resources and the rules no longer exist. In Lord of the Flies, the characters are in an island where is also out of anything civilized. It might be doubtful that how McCathy is sure his description under that situation can be confirmed as logical and real, but what is described in Lord of the Flies can confirm it. More ... Thankfully, there are a number of actions seniors can take to prevent this disease. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle and getting regular screening tests, seniors have a better chance of preventing colorectal or colon cancer. 1. Adhere to Dietary Guidelines One of the best ways to prevent colorectal cancer is to follow a healthy diet. Elderly people at risk for cancer should limit their intake of red meat and processed meats, which means less bacon, bologna, hamburgers, or steak. For seniors who eat red meat daily, cutting back to several times a week is a must. After cutting down on red meat consumption, it s important to replace unhealthy foods with nutritious alternatives. Dionysus fits the Greek understanding of vengeful and selfish God that bear more anthropomorphic traits than Godly traits. The motives of Dionysus are extremely perplexing to a modern audience. I will go; for that which fate forbids, can never befall me. For this thy mockery be sure Dionysus will exact a recompense of thee even the god whose existence thou deniest; for thou art injuring him by haling me to prison (Euripides 28). John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Swerving, deviating from the path he knows he must follow, might have cost him his life on the road; his swerving here is of a different nature, mental or emotional, yet its result is still death. The poem s language emphasizes the inevitability and finality of the traveler s confrontation. Alliterated d consonant sounds, as in death , pervade poem s first and second stanzas: dark , deer , dead , doe , even stiffened and cold . These words evoke feelings of deliberate doom that transcend their literal definitions and thud with terminal authority. Contrastingly, the repetition of the Ocirc; vowel sound in the third stanza (warm and born) creates an atmosphere as inviting and secure as a womb. The poem s language also gives rise to specific images. The deer s description, ...stood by the heap...a recent killing; / she had stiffened already, almost cold (3 4), paints a somber picture of death. Words like heap , stiffened , and cold contribute to the impression of lifelessness. However, language is also used to impart vitality. The traveler s

Some reasons for switching to a virtual education include overcrowded classrooms that do not allow for one on one instruction or differentiation of instruction from teachers due to too many students in the classroom, pacing of the curriculum that is either too fast or too slow, and lack of choice of courses in schools. 2. To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf Essay To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf When speaking of modernism in the work Virginia Woolf, scholars too readily use her innovations in style and technique as the starting point for critical analysis, focusing largely on the ways in which her prose represents a departure from the conventional novel in both style and content. To simply discuss the extent of her unique style, however, is to overlook the role of tradition in her creation of a new literary identity. To the Lighthouse most appropriately fits this latter definition, where Woolf s own discourse suggests a similar understanding of the term (Zwerdling 180). In a diary entry of 1928, Woolf notes her reluctance to consider To the Lighthouse a novel, describing it instead as a final act of remembrance: I used to think of him [father] and mother daily she recalled, but writing The Lighthouse laid them in my mind. In another entry the same year, Woolf describes To the Lighthouse as a burial rite, a cathartic elegy in which she expressed some very long felt and deeply felt emotion...and in expressing it explained it, and then laid it to rest. Contemporary scholars of Woolf s work have similarly affirmed the importance of the concept of elegy within To the Lighthouse, asserting as Eavan Boland does that the true text of To the Lighthouse is undoubtedly Mrs. Ramsay, a figurative representation of Julia Duckworth Stephen, Woolf s mother (Boland 10). In a letter sent to Woolf after reading the novel, Vanessa Bellfurther reinforces Mrs. Ramsay s connection to Julia, noting that Woolf had created in Mrs. Ramsay a portrait of mother which is more like her to me than anything I could have ever conceived of as possible. Exothermic Reaction In this report 3 fuels, ethanol, pentan 1 ol and 1 butanol were tested to determine the experimental heat of combustion and to decide which would be the best fuel to take on a camping trip. Combustion takes place when fuels react with oxygen to produce heat (E inst.com, 2015). The heat created by the burning of fuel is used in the operation of equipment such as boilers and furnaces, as well as heat being produced, when reactants undergo combustion CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H2O (water) are formed as byproducts of the exothermic reaction (E inst.com, 2015). The diversity of the library theoretically could be 10 24, but practically it was estimated to be 5Г—1011CFU/ml. By PCR assembly approach, CDR3 region was linked to the framework using primer listed in table1 (Fig.2b). In order to obtain acceptable diversity, after insertion and ligation of sequences obtained from overlapping PCR into pcomb3x vector, a total of 200 heatshock transformations were accomplished. The final library population was about 5Г—1011 independent clones. PCR analysis confirmed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 4b). This clone was named C1and was taken for further characterization. Sequence analysis of C1 showed high homology (94%) with the VHH sequence published in the NCBI database. Cross Reactivity of C1 VHH Antibodies C1 VHH was analyzed against several unrelated proteins. ELISA results showed that the C1VHH has specificity against HABD and MDA MB 231 cell lysate (Fig. 4c). The nanobody did not show significant binding toward unrelated proteins/cells. Expression in E. coli Transformation of non suppressor E. coli Top10F0 with C1 phagemid was produced a soluble VHH, showing as an 18 kDa band on SDS PAGE . For overexpression of nanobody, the anti CD44 VHH gene was subcloned into pET28a expression vector. Nanobody expression and purification was confirmed by SDS PAGE and Western Blotting. Expression of the VHH antibody fragments was resulted in a sharp18 kDa band (Fig. 5). Place of Figure 5 Discussion CD44, is one of the recognized tumorand CSC biomarkers and the main receptor for HA, playing important roles in tumor development by involvement in cell adhesion and cell migration (Cortes Dericks et al. 2017; Misra et al. 2015). Considering the roles of CD44 as a biomarker in the assessment of treatment response, screening and differential diagnosis; expansion of a nanobody with its unique characteristics for the recognition of CD44 could contribute todiagnosis, therapy and drug delivery fornumerous cancer (Misra et al. 2011; Wang et al. 2016).
