Aqueducts Of The Roman Aqueducts
For thousands of years, the Aqueducts of Rome have inspired and changed the ways we look at
water supply and usage today. The Romans used their engineering and building skills to improve
the standard of life of the people of Rome, Revolutionising water collection and usage. By
investigating the aqueducts of Rome and presenting evidence and information about how and why
they were built, this report will question whether aqueducts were better built than today s bridges.
The word aqueduct is Latin and comes from aqua and ducere meaning to lead water . The Roman
aqueducts were a network of channels and pipes built above and below ground with a purpose to
carry water across expanses of land. The concept of the Roman aqueducts is simple ... Show more

Access points were also built along the path of the aqueduct to regulate the water supply and clear
debris. As the aqueducts approached Rome, the water was emptied into 3 holding tanks castella
(see fig.3). Each holding tank pumped water for a specific purpose such as for public baths,
drinking fountains or piping water to the rich. None of the water that the aqueducts used was
wasted as the left over water was used to flush out sewerage systems, power machinery and for
agricultural purposes. The senator Sextus Julius Frontinus from the 1st century AD explained in
detail how the aqueducts worked. A quote from his book states the different uses of a Roman
aqueduct: The supply which suffices not only for public and private uses and purposes but also for
the satisfaction of luxury. The use of water for many different purposes was unique at the time and
ensured that little was wasted.
Every Roman by the 2nd century AD had free access to public baths and running water, which
greatly improved Rome s standard of living at the time. Private access to water was also common
with a cost occurring to pipe water to houses and buildings. Sometimes water was tapped
unknowingly or pipes were unlawfully connected to the aqueducts or widened. Some privately
operated aqueducts were also used and pumped water directly to buildings.
The aqueducts are mostly identified today by the

Arson Investigation
Arson is a serious issue and the investigation of it requires a great deal of examination and
experience. When the thought comes to mind how a person can be so, unconcern with fire there is
a lot to consider. There are many areas of focus when it comes to investigating arson, along with
procedures legal entries, and obligations and responsibilities of the examining team. There are great
usages for Arsoninspectors in our world today and with the right examiner/team, the job is
according to the laws and requirement. When the thought comes to mind that it was just a simple
fire there could be questionable evidence that shows arson. The discussion shall be addressing the
focus areas, procedures, legal entry, and evidence collecting.

The key is to ensure that the foundation is established and that ever matter is reviewed and
evaluated. This needs to be completed at all cost to ensure that the person of interest is evaluated
mentally and emotionally. The fire investigationat the scene must be performed at or near the time
of the fire. An exception may be when the investigation of a fire that occurred at night halts and
recommences in the morning due to lack of light, assistance, better conditions, and hazard
conditions still exist (America Re Insurance Comany, 1996). This ensures that there is no evidence
tampered with and there is a fresh perspective on the fire.
The procedure in which the crime scene team leader need to do is keep record of the date, time,
weather conditions, individuals present, position of lights, doors security, and ventilation system
status. This allows the individual investigator to run smoothly through all the probable causes and

Essay Rulemaking by Cornelius Kerwin
According to Cornelius Kerwin, Rulemaking is the single most important function performed by

every government agency. In so doing it provides direction and content from budgeting, program
implementation, procurement, personnel management, dispute resolution, and other important

3.What are the advantages that they can get in disaster tourism?
Discussion
Disaster areas/places There are a lot of disaster places in the universe but what I will write down
is the most disaster places in the Philippines that tourists always go. First is the Minor Basilica
and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, this cathedral was originally the
church of manila established in 1571 by a secular priest, Juan de Vivero, who arrived in Manila
Bay in 1566. When the church was raised to a cathedral in 1579, a new structure made from nipa,
wood, and bamboo was constructed in 1581 by Domingo de Salazar, the first bishop of Manila.
The new structure was consecrated on December 21, 1581, formally becoming a cathedral. The
structure was destroyed by fire in 1583, which started during the funeral Mass for Governor

Role Of The Meatpacking Industry In Upton Sinclair s The...
The Jungle Book was a book written by Upton Sinclair in 1905 which discussed the meatpacking
industry. It exposed the industry as a dirty industry that was not very well regulated at all and
that the meat that they produced was often contaminated and could make individuals who ate it
very ill. This caused major outrage throughout America and in 1906 a meat inspection bill was
passed by Congress so that the meat industry could be regulated so individuals would not have
to eat dirty meat like they did before. This showed the power of the Progressive Era as a major
flaw in regulations was shown in 1905 and just a year later there was major legislation passed
which was there to regulate the industry to protect the consumers. The Dawes Act was passed in
1890 with the intent of giving up tribal lands to individual Native Americans along with Americans

Example Of Diction In Hamlet
Within Shakespeare s writing there is an importance of the diction he uses, in order to enhance
central themes of the play. In addition, his diction creates allusions, connotations, denotations, and
ambiguities in order to allow the play to capture characters feelings and relations to the overall
themes. One line in act one was, I am a little more than kin and less than kind (25). The word kin
means son, but Hamletsays the phrase, a little more than kin , in order to express how he is related
more to his uncle than just as a son, but also as his cousin. Which allows him to go on to explain
how this circumstance is, less than kind . The actual definition of kind is polite but when Hamlet
says, less than kind he is inferring how appalling that his mother would shortly after his father died,
marry his father s brother. A brother in law, in Shakespeare s day was considered your actual
brother, therefore, the queen marrying Hamlet s uncle was known as incest, which is a common
theme. Consequently, this line contains emotional resonance, or connotation. As, mentioned the
queen s action was frowned upon to marry in your family, therefore, the audience may be feeling
disgusted and pitying Hamlet for the injustices that his mother has done for the family. Another
way shakespeare uses his diction in order to develop characters and central themes, is whenever
the King talks. For example, when the king talks to Hamlet about how crude and un king like
Hamlet is acting, the king makes sure to point out for these reasons Hamlet is not fit for being
king. One line that the king said was, Tis unmanly grief (27), which allows for the audience to
once again feel a negative connotation. The emotional appeal of the word, unmanly is how one
may be extremely sensitive as would a female would be and would never be able to get the job
done. In addition, the actual definition or the denotation of the word is for one to not act man
like and is weak or cowardly. Therefore, the king, Claudius, is calling his son a coward who is
weak and too sensitive for the job. Which allows for the audience to feel as if the king is the best
person for the job and that he must be trustworthy and no one could rise against him. Yet, the

Enterprise Resource Planning ( Erp ) Essay
Introduction:
Enterprise resource planning (ERP), when implemented successfully ,can be linked to all
departments of the organization to access, share and collect information. It has many functions
such as, order administration, manufacturing, human resources, financial systems, and customers
into a tightly integrating system with sharing data and visibility and distribution with external
suppliers. (Injazz, 2001).
ERP is a system is important in the field of businesses because it is uses hardware and software
to help staff members in a company and need to access and collect information in different
departments also in a different places. (Magal, 2012). ERP organizes and shares all the data, and it
is an easy and fast way to find specific information by using the server, and software, such as SAP

Why The Failure Of The Allies s Cross-Channel Invasion
In 1941, Churchill and Roosevelt and their advisers met in Washington. Their first strategy was
to defeat Germany and after they ll go after Japan. America planned it as soon as they would
stabilize in the southwestern Pacific. Their plan was to make a cross channel invasion of
Europe from Britain. The Allies could nt have enough ships to invade Europe before the next
spring of 1942. Their next thought was to plan a bomb on Germany. During they would wait
and send war materials to the Soviet armies fighting Germany in Russia. Churchill wanted to
keep going and mess up Germany from the Meditterranian. For example they wanted to ruin
Africa, Sicily, Italy, and so on just until Germany was so weak, they would invade across the
Channel. America wanted to make a cross channel invasion of Europe as soon as possible. In
1943, the Allies agreed to a round the clock bombing campaign against Germany. In the end there
was no definite plan for a cross channel invasion other than to agree to do it someday. In 1943, at
the Tehran Conference, Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill held a final blueprint for allied victory. In
the summer of 1944 there would be a cross channel invasion of Europe and a smaller invasion of
southern France, and at the same time Russia would lanch an offensive on its front with Germany.

Physical Therapy Goals
As a physical therapist, I will embody APTA s vision by providing quality, client centered
therapy geared toward improving each patient s life by enhancing his or her movement
capabilities. Limited or painful movement can create a multitude of issues for a person, and my
goal is to allay each of these when treating patients. To provide the best care possible, I will be
perceptive of clients needs as well as individual traits and always have the patient s best interest in
mind.
Restoring and improving movement are among the key goals of physical therapy. However,
movement is not only beneficial to keeping one s body healthy but also essential to maintaining
physical, mental, and spiritual health. During my physical therapy observation and my own personal
experience with a debilitating stingray wound, I realized that humans become unhappy and even
depressed due to limited mobility. I would link their depression to their curtailed human experience.

instance, based on my knowledge of the human body and best practices of physical therapy, I may
conclude that aquatic therapy is necessary for an elderly patient s optimal recovery from a knee
surgery. However, if that patient has a phobia of water, trying to force him or her into the water will
remove any initial trust between the patient and myself. While I would still highly recommend
water therapy, other alternatives will need to be considered. Eventually, personal care for that
patient may even build their trust up enough to allow them to overcome their

How Did The Unfit Emperors Lead To The Fall Of Rome
The Western Roman Empire was one of the greatest Empires of the world
In the Western Roman Empire politics was the first contributing factor the fall of it. One of the
many reasons is because of their unfit emperors. They had many. The ones who were unfit, were
greedy and used cruelty to control and keep control of their empire. Not all showed the ability to
be the emperor, some of them inherited the throne, and some of the people who did had a
mentally unstable personality. Some Emperors were assassinated by their Praetorian Guard for
position or money. Once the Praetorian Guard assassinates the emperor, if they had a leader their
leader would become the emperor. As a result of the unfit emperors civil wars broke out across
Rome. Legions fought one another. The citizens of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

were impossible to protect and control. They also built walls, but they didn t have enough

the throne that they lost focus on their jobs. Roman legionaries became weak therefore the
Romans hired Germanic mercenaries. Mercenaries are people who kill in war for people who pay
them. Unfortunately for the Romans they got a mind of their own and turned their backs on the
Romans. Sense the legionaries lost focus on their job, the Germanic tribes found that it was the
best time to attack Rome. When they did they destroyed some of the aqueducts which shortened
the fresh water supply. This was a very smart thing for the Germanic tribes to do because you can
only live without fresh water for less than a week. When the rivers, Rhine and Danube Rivers, froze
it helped the invaders sense they could just walk over it. Which is exactly what helped Germanic
Chief Alaric and Germanic tribes invade Rome and burn it to the ground in 410

The Impact Of Internet On East Asian Countries
The Concept of Internet Technology: An Analysis of Efficiency, Benefits and Hindrances of
Internet coverage across Sub Saharan Africa and East Asian Countries. The internet provides a way
for us to connect and communicate with each other across various political and economic
boundaries. Since its inception couple of decades ago, we as humans have found doing certain
things such as communication, transportation and business aspects of our lives pretty easy than we
did in the past. The internethas improved various aspects in our community such as health,
infrastructure, business and education. But in this paper, I am going to explore the impacts the
internet in particular as a form of media technology has on East Asian Countries and its possible
benefits for Sub Saharan Africaregion in the area of politics. I also tend to analyse the competence
of the internet in enhancing the political processes of Thailand and its probable benefits for a
country like Nigeria ridiculed with poverty brought about by immense corruption. As we all know
the internet as a form of technology has its advantages as well as disadvantages in structuring our
society this also is an aspect that would be examined in this paper. At the end of this paper I hope
to establish a point that the introduction of highly effective internet services across Sub Saharan
countries in Africawould increase its rate of globalization in this present age, where technology is

Criminal Defense Lawyer
Regardless of where you live, everyone knows that criminal offenses are no joke and come with
weighty penalties if one is found guilty. These might include lengthy jail terms, heavy fines or a
combination of the two; it all depends on the nature of the charges. A good criminal defense lawyer
will fight by your side and do everything imaginable to ensure that you do not have to face harsh
penalties. Furthermore they can prevent criminal charges from making an appearance on your
criminal record. This very important element goes a long way in protecting your reputation and
credibility whiling ensuring that you do not harm your future chances of being employed.

This is for the simple reason that the more respect an attorney has in a court, the better his or her
chances of negotiating with the judge (to rule on critical motions in your favor) will be. Thirdly,
experience is key. Always go for a lawyer who has many years of experience. The more
experienced your criminal defense attorney has, the more suited they will be at analyzing your

In 1905, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, under the direction of Rev. L. L. Downing, erected
their persistently famous Stonewall Jackson memorial window. Each Sunday, Fifth Avenue s pastor

Let us Cross the River and Rest in the Shade of the Trees. General Jackson was, of course, well
known for his devout Presbyterian faith. What may be most surprising to those unfamiliar with
Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, however, is that it is a historically black congregation. As a

Flynt s work shows special interest in one man, Walter Lingle, but he attempted to show issues
such as child labor as having been of great concern to more than just Lingle, a Presbyterian leader
that arrived at Union Seminary in Richmond by 1911. Shortly before Lingle s entrance into the Old
Dominion, Flynt states that Presbyterians had clearly opted for a mixture of spiritual and
educational salvation. Other writers of Presbyterian history have not been so interested in such
themes, however. Don K. Clements, speaking about much broader chronological implications, has
been especially critical of those who adopted a more progressive stance to Presbyterianism. He
stated:
The Southern Church saw herself as holding the Old School position, which gave rise to the
Southern Presbyterian distinctives. With the passing of the first generation of leaders, the Southern
Church was unable to replace them with men of equal soundness and stature. The result is that the
Southern Church lasted as a sound denomination for seventy or eighty years, and then was taken
over by the liberals in the church. This was done very largely through the capturing of the
educational agencies of the church, the seminaries, the colleges, the publications and literature.
Still, others, including Darryl G. hart, have suggested that historians focus

Erving Goffman s Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life
Erving Goffman was a Canadian born sociologist and writer. He was made a president of the
American Sociological Association. His best known involvement and contribution to the social
sciences is his theory of symbolic interaction and dramaturgy, which began with his 1959 book
The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. This report explains that individuals have the ability to
choose their stage, the character they play, and the costume they wear in specific social situations
(Goffman, 1959). He also worked with the total institution model, and used it to construct his
studies, mostly in Asylums. A total institution is a residence and workplace for similar people,
who are cut off from the wider society for an amount of time, and who altogether, lead an enclosed
form of life (Frank, 2002). This ties in with his next book about mental institutions, where he
theorized that if people are treated, as they are a societal burden and placed in an institution with

how therapeutic or non therapeutic a hospital and program is (Pilgrim and Rogers, 2008). People
come from their own social frameworks, where they occupy diverse roles. When institutionalized,
these individuals are stripped of their sense of themselves leading to what Goffman described as
disculturation (Davidson et, al. 2011). Instead of treating mental health as an illness, disculturation
leads to demoralization, deterioration, and leaves people virtually incapable of managing their own
lives in the real world , which leaves them requiring to remain institutionalized (Davidson et, al.

Research Paper On Jane Flanders
The world has several great poets and many mind blowing works, each with its own way of
portraying its own message and some the same ones. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named
Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help
the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on
the same idea but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand
while not revealing the real meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many
poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way
of presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Flanders sees the world as simple
backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first, as you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a
backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches a rock (already he works outdoors), a
wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a haywain trembles. Showing that
the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The message behind this line is
that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still stands as if to hang
on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains the main point
of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough. Horizons
are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted and
used for the wrong reasons. Flanders uses this line to represent the things in the world that are
there and difficult to get without giving up something in return. The special treasure that is there
from the start is often not appreciated but the ones that have been worked for do not tend to lose
their value over time. Robert Frost, on the other hand, used a more fictional approach in Nothing
Gold Can Stay . Nature s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. This couplet has one key
theme, hat not only lies in the word choice but in the poem, itself. The start of spring is when all
the new flowers bloom and the leaves on trees become greener. The start of something new and
beautiful is the

The Islands Of Cape Verde
Essay #2
The islands of Cape Verde were exposed and colonized by the Portuguese in the 15th century. Cape
Verde later became a trading center for African slaves and later a significant resting stop for long
haul shipping. Ensuing independence in 1975 and a faltering interest in unification with Guinea
Bissau, which is a one party system that was established in the 1990. Cape Verdealso remains to
exhibit one of Africa s greatest steady democratic governments. Recurrent droughts in the 20th
century caused major suffering and encouraged heavy immigration. Thus, Cabo Verde s refugee
population is greater than its national one. Majority of Cape Verdean s like myself have both
African and Portuguese antecedents. There is a lot of Cape Verdean s that live in Rhode Island
that moved away from the Cape Verde Islands. The climate is warm, dry summer and precipitation

basalt rock, limestone, kaolin, fish, clay and gypsum.
Cabo Verde s government party is Republican. Respect for Political Rights: The Right of Citizens to

Plurality Voting And Voting System
We often hear people saying that they re going to vote for someone they don t really like, because
he/she is the lesser of two evils . (Ossipoff) Many take the United States voting system with an it is
what it is attitude, assuming it could be no better. This is certainly not the case. The United States
uses what is known as plurality voting, meaning the candidate with the largest percentage of votes
wins. This is also a winner takes all system, where losers of the election receive no representation.
This leads voters to compromise, not selecting their favorite because they believe him/her to be
unviable, and ultimately selecting somebody they don t like (Ossipoff). Plurality voting results in
high amounts of wasted votes, making... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suppose that two districts of equal population are voting to elect 1 representative each. Suppose
further that in District A, the winning candidate receives 90% of the votes, while in District B,
the winner receives only 51%. In District A, 39% of the votes for the winner (all excess after
reaching 51%) had no effect on the outcome, as that candidate would have won either way. In
District B, no winning votes are wasted. However, in both cases, the same amount of
representation is awarded. In essence, 39% of the winning voters in District A are not being
represented. Similarly, all votes to the losing candidate are wasted their desires are in no way
reflected in the result of the election. In any two person race, 49% of voters do not receive any
representation for their vote. With more candidates, often more than 50% of votes are wasted.
Voters do not fail to see this, and it affects their desire to vote (Amy). If natural wasting of votes
isn t bad enough, politicians currently holding office grossly manipulate the voting districts to
artificially create wasted votes in a strategy known as gerrymandering. Two types of

Fall Accidents Caused By Accidents
Fall accidents have been determined to be the single main cause of injuries and fatalities in the
construction industry in the United States. The numbers of construction related fatalities from
falls have declined between the years of 2006 through 2010, but the problem of falls consumes
one third of the construction industry work related fatalities. Construction related falls is at the
top of the OSHA list of fatal four. Even with the staggering numbers involving construction and
falls there has been little evidence to show any decline in construction site falls. To go one step
farther an employers duty to provide fall protection is the most often cited violation during the
author s research period of 2012 and 2013 based on OSHA statistics cited by the writer
(Siddiqui, 2014). Fall accidents tend to result in more serious injuries and proof of this is in the
average missed time for employees who suffer a fall. According to the writer of this particular
paper reflects a minimum of ten days of missed work. Falls within the construction industry also
reflected the highest cost in worker s compensation and medical related expenses in direct cost. In
direct cost in relation to fall injuries and fatalities are considerably higher through slowed or
stopped production (project delays) and this is more expensive than the direct cost. By reviewing
OSHA s fatality inspection data between the years of 1992 1995 it was found that there was 1,689

The next big step of changing how we transport to everyday places, and to this we added wheels

that everyone knows, so he spent all that time thinking of a way to make a better engine. Rudolf
Diesel was both a thinker and a doer . Confined to hospital after an accident, he spent months
poring over books and papers by people like Carnot and Otto. All That time he spent time he was
in the hospital studying, making theories on how he would make a better engine than what
everyone else had he wanted to have some thing that could pull almost anything, and something
that could last a long time. So he had began preparations, and he gathered up all of his Notes that
he wrote while he was stuck in the hospital, and then he soon started on began working on his first
prototype Engine that he believed would be way better than the standard Engine that everybody
had. He soon came to the conclusion that he could build a far better engine than the puny gasoline
machines Benz and Daimler had designed and knocked up a prototype, an enormous 3 m (10 ft)
high machine, in the early 1890s. So After his first Diesel engine prototype was made , it was high
and tall and for an engine it had a lot of power and could be used to do almost anything, and
compared to a normal engine this enormous diesel engine, the normal engine was puny. So When
Diesel was making his engine he wanted his engine to be the best that it could ever be so he
practically thought of everything, So prototype could practically run on any sort of fuel because he
wanted everyone to use it and he had to think of everything that the person owning this engine

Biotechnology Advantages And Disadvantages
1.What is Biotechnology?
1.1. A definition of Biotechnology
The exploitation of microorganisms for industrial purposes or processes. (Sterrenberg, 2010) 1.2.
Two advantages of Biotechnology with their advantages and disadvantages Examples:
Antibiotics
Vaccines
Antibiotic destroy bacterial pathogens. Antibiotics have different chemical structures, therefore
destroying pathogenic bacteria differently. There are two manners in which antibiotics can destroy
pathogenic material:
1.The bacterium cell is destroyed by causing the wall of the bacterium to weaken, therefore
disfiguring the cell and forcing the cell to burst, spilling all its contents, and destroying the cell
from spreading its pathogenic bacteria.
2.Antibiotics can take the form of the pathogenic bacterium s metabolism. This completely

Vaccines are used to create immunisation. They are taken orally by injection. Vaccines are a
weakened form of a microorganism. It is injected to create immunity against the specific pathogen
injected. Therefore, creating antibodies and a memory of the reaction to the pathogen.
Immunisation is now created. When the pathogen attacks the body, the antibodies will respond and

Merida has a strong personality that goes against the patriarchal idea of a weak woman. Merida

However, some will not support Merida is her feminist agenda due to messing up the flow of
entertainment via media. Laura Mulvy in her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema ,
backs these claims by stating, In their traditional exhibitionist role women are simultaneously
looked at and displayed, with their appearance coded for strong visual and erotic impact so that
they can be said to connote to be looked at ness. Woman displayed as sexual object is the leit
motif of erotic spectacle: from pin ups to striptease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, therefore
women are presence to indispensable elements of spectacle in normal narrative film . Some
misogynist movie goers and TV watchers like to see women objectified and hyper sexualized
because it keeps there attention and usually the attention is what funds the films. If cartoons and
films starting breaking down hyper sexuality of women, such as Merida is attempting in this
film, it could cause drastic change in audience and possible decline in sales. Turning back to my
original point, Merida is feminist because she has the patriarchal idea of a weak. Merida is
confident about her self and does not hesitate to take control when she ought to, such as coming up
with a plan to sneak Elinor in bear form out of the castle or procuring food when she and her

The Effects Of Noxious Weeds On Rangeland
The Effects of Noxious Weeds on Rangeland
Seth Robbins
Noxious weeds can be very harmful to all aspect of rangeland. They can outcompete native
grasses and forbs causing a loss of forage to livestock and wildlife. A large number of noxious
weeds have been purposely introduced to the United States for purposes such as food, forage,
fiber and decorative ground cover. Programs have been created to help with the invasion of
weeds. It s taken lots of time and resources to get programs started up to be able to combat the
effect of noxious weeds.
Noxious weeds have an adverse effect on the rangeland, if left unchecked they could overwhelm
and destroy all of the native grasses. A large amount of the noxious weeds that are causing issues
today in rangeland and public lands. Were at one time introduced for other purposes to either
rangeland or non rangeland areas. These noxious weeds are costing large amount of money to
combat their invasion onto rangeland, public, and private lands. Weeds are able to take over
developing areas because of the removal of native grasses or forbs and then leaving bare soil
exposed. Many weeds thrive when bare soil is present and after they have gotten their hold on the
area it s very difficult to remove them form it completely. Invasive species have been brought into

The Daughter Of Time By Joseph Essay
Josephine Tey s The Daughter of Time is a historical novel that looks at the belief that
Richard III, King of England, murdered his two nephews in order to maintain his power. This
novel also supports the belief that the truth comes out through time. In the novel the main character,
Grant, is concerned with what he believes is a unknown fact of whether or not the long ago King
of England was guilty. Throughout his search for the answer Grant discovers many history books
which all tend to view Richard in different ways. It is from these different views of the same man,
that one can draw the conclusion that bias plays a major role in the validity and credibility of

Personal accounts and documents are often overlooked or considered unbelievable because they
cannot be considered valid due to the bias opinions of the writer. As historians many find this
discouraging because they have no account of what really happened and only have what can be
read from the writings of others. In the media bias plays a role in the validity of certain things. An
example, just one out of the many, where bias plays a role in the credibility of certain events is the
Pocahontas story. With out going into too much detail it is safe to say that the Disney version was
very much altered from the real version. Pocahontas was a nickname for the naughty one the girls
real name in this legend was Matoaka. [visit http://www.powhatan.org/pocc.html to see what is

If bias continues to effect how valid certain past documents are, the documents which help to base

When one takes The Daughter of Time and looks closely another name for daughter one may come
up with is truth. The truth is what eventually evolves after time. The truth comes out through time,

Grant found evidence to support his belief that Richard the III was in fact innocent. It took many
years for someone to realize this but that is the role of time in this case. Grant used information

Leon Edel has attacked Hemingway for his `Lack of substance as he called it. According to him,
Hemingway s fiction is deficient in serious subject matter. It is a world of superficial action and

simplified level . (10)
The majority of his early novels were narrated in the first person and enclosed within a single
point of view, however, when Hemingway wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls, he used several
different narrative techniques. He employed the use of internal monologues (where the reader is
in the mind of a particular character), objective descriptions, rapid shifts of point of view, and in
general a looser structure than in his earlier works. Hemingway believed that a writer s style
should be direct and personal, his imagery rich and earthy, and his words simple and vigorous. The
greatest writers have the gift of brevity, are hard workers, diligent scholars and competent stylists.
For Whom the Bell Tolls is the most serious and politically motivated novelthat Hemingway wrote.
There are few comic or light episodes in the entire book. For Whom the Bell Tolls is an attempt to
present in depth a country and people that Hemingway loved very much. It was an effort to deal
honestly with a very complex war made even more complex by the beliefs it inspired. Ernest

With practical aesthetics the actor breaks the scene down into four parts, the literal, the want,
the essential, and the as if. With each part there is something the actor can do to make the
character better for them to act as. First is the literal. For the literal, the actor is looking for what
actually happens in the scene. For example, in the movie Wreck It Ralph, when Ralph wrecks
Vanellope s car, Vanellope is extremely upset with Ralph. Second is the want. For the want, the

A typical work day during this program looks something like this: get to the office around 7:00
AM, start dialing at 9:00 AM, and then from 10:00 AM on is when meetings are set up to meet
with potential clients. Every day I had to wake up and call 30 40 people and repeat my sales
language over and over again to try to get them to meet with me. Of those 30 40 people per day,
only about 10 15 would answer and about 3 5 would actually say yes to setting up a meeting

At the end of the Fact Finder, is when you talk about what services that you offer and how those
services can help that person based on the information that was talked about in the Fact Finder.

that now they are safer because of you and your hard work. This job is not about instant

The Doctrine Of Parliamentary Sovereignty Explained
The basic principle of the English constitution can be summed up simply: A statute, that is, a piece
of legislation produced and passed by the Parliament, is generally regarded as the highest form of
law within the constitutional structure. The Parliament is said to be a sovereign law maker. This
concept is derived from a legal theory articulated by an Oxford law professor from the nineteenth
century, A.V Dicey in the book, An Introduction To The Study Of The Law Of Constitution .
The doctrine of parliamentary supremacy can be summarised in three points:
The Parliament can make laws concerning anything.
No Parliament can bind a future Parliament (it cannot pass a law that cannot be reversed by a future
Parliament)

The Romance Language
In today s society, almost everyone is familiar with the languages of Spanish, Italian, French,
Portuguese, Romanian, and Catalan, or better known as the Romance languages . One might
wonder as to why they are commonly known as the Romance languages, and the simple answer is
that all these languages lead back to the language of the Romans: Latin. Latin became a language
commonly used during the start of the city of Rome, around the Tiber River, in the seventh century
B.C., but unfortunately came to an end during the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965,
where the Catholic Church made the decision to change the language of the liturgies from Latin to
the vernacular language of the area. Although the Latin language is considered dead in modern
society, the evolution of Latin into the Romantic languages has been able to influence billions of
speakers since the ninth century. One might be inquisitive as to how a language can change over
time, but languages do not just change, they evolve, as well. Language is a natural growth, and not
an instrument which we shape for our own purposes (Orwell 707). Languages cannot change by
force, but rather will change over a period of time with the help of society to influence the
development of words and phrases. The evolution of languages comes naturally, usually with
influences from other spoken languages close enough to the main region where a language is
spoken. These changes enter the language, and, with time, the language has

whether it be a book, theatre or feature film. We are constantly bombarded with tales of dictators,
gladiators, great wars, lone survivors, myths and legends. We are constantly offered historical
fiction because we enjoy it. We like to see subjects that bored us in the classroom suddenly come
to life and entertain us on the big screen. We like to put a face to the legends that we have read
about in literature. It is something that we as a society use to break away from reality for a
moment. The medium of film has the ability to manipulate these stories to fit the entertainment and

Homelessness Among The United States
Homelessness has always been growing across communities in the United States, and many
struggle from it as they are people who are lacking in funds, causing them to be without a home.
Today, homelessness among individuals is becoming more common and is unfortunately
spreading all over the world. Most home owning people are unaware of the actuality of the
conditions that the homeless people reside in and many cannot comprehend the troubles and
hardships they face just to keep themselves alive. Most homeless people are known to reside in
abandoned buildings, buses, cars, street corners and in many community parks. Most homeless
people can barely afford to eat every day and to survive many live on the scraps and leftovers from
others. Homelessnessis defined as someone who cannot afford to pay for housing without
depriving themselves of the essentials needed in life. People who become homeless do not all
necessarily live on streets, but many homeless people in our modern society stay with friends,
relatives and even in shelters as they cannot afford to live on their own (Espejo 28).
The three kinds of homelessness that exist are, temporary homelessness, episodical/cynical
homelessness and chronic homelessness. A person who falls under the category of temporary
homelessness is typically a person or family that becomes homeless for a short period of time.
Most people are forced into temporary homelessness because of an unexpected and minor
occurrence such as the loss of a

Midsummer Night s Dream Supernatural
The rule of law, supernatural, and commoners in a chaos.
A Midsummer Night s Dream is a comedy play unfolding in three juxtaposed settings. It shows the
events related to the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus and Hyppolita including adventures
of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur commoners/actors who are manipulated
by fairies and their supernatural tricks. The author of this play is William Shakespeare.
The three settings of the play are the forest, the Dukes Palace, and the Quince s cottage. All the
mysterious and magical events take place in the forest. It is full of emotions and feelings. In
contrast with the forest, things happening in the palace and the characters seem to be guardians of
the law and order. The Quince s cottage is full of humor and jokes and represents a lower class
society in contrast to the Duke s palace.

Quite infantile is also the idea of trying to explain to the audience the meaning of the play as they
act.
The significance for each setting in this story is different. In the Duke s palace there is law and
order, in the forest it is the supernatural, and in Quince s cottage it is humor and jokes.
The three settings of this play are a good to portray the life and the various layers of society:the

Allegory in Edward Albee s The American Dream Essay
Allegory in Edward Albee s The American Dream
Our understanding of Edward Albee s achievement in The American Dream (1960) has come a
long way since 1961 when Martin Esslin hailed it as a brilliant first example of an American
contribution to the Theatre of the Absurd 1 and 1966 when Nicholas Canaday, Jr. labeled it
America s best example of what has come to be known as the theatre of the absurd. 2
The shrewdest assessment of absurdism in Albee is by Brian Way, who shows convincingly that,
although Albee has successfully mastered the techniques of theatrical absurdism, he has
nevertheless shied away from embracing the metaphysics that the style implies.3 That is, Albee
knows that Theatre of the Absurd is an absorption in art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Albee s title, on the other hand, is rich in intellectual and moral substance, since it refers to a host
of ideas and feelings associated with the fondest hopes of participants in the American experience,
both historic and contemporary. The title is also a fitting thematic label for the play since the
dialogue explicitly refers to the American Dream after the Young Man appears on stage. Ionesco s
title like all titles, an authorial comment on the text rightly says that the play lacks meaning; Albee
s says that it refers to a lot of meaning.
That meaning is most obviously associated with the Young Man, since he is specifically identified
as the American Dream by the dialogue of the play. The less obvious but more important meaning is
embodied in Grandma. The goal of this essay will be to clarify how Grandma s character and
experience bear most of the meaning of the American Dream that Albee wants to communicate in
this play. As we shall see, that meaning fits squarely within the mainstream American humanist
tradition stretching back to the early, idealistic years of the American republic.
Even though she is a physical disaster, many critics have noticed various kinds of attractive
qualities in Grandma. Don D. Moore finds her the most appealing, the most refreshing and the
wisest figure in the play. 8 Canaday, who has written the most about Grandma, praises her for her
realism, clear vision, enjoyment of living, and creative

Asian Pacific Americans ( Apa )
Prior to this course, I had little to no knowledge on Asian Pacific Americans (APA). After weeks of
discussing and analyzing material that dealt with the hardships that minorities such as APA
individuals faced, I can conclude that this ethnic group underwent experiences that were not too
uncommon from that of Latinos and African Americans. Since population in California today,
consist of an average of 60% Asians and Latinos as stated in the book, Learning English/Learning
America by Juana Mora, Gina Masequesmay, Eunai Shrake, and Ana S. Munoz, it is safe to say
that students in classrooms nowadays are mainly those within these ethnic groups (Mora,
Masequesmay, Shrake, and Munoz, ix). I will be focusing on three of the many stories APA and
Latino students have to share in this book, that I felt related to me most as I also, am a second
generation student.
Ideally, immigration to America has been noted as a step in the right direction for several years. The
concept of the American Dream has been one of the main reasons behind immigrants choosing to
leave their hometown and in other cases, changes in government and enslavement has led
immigrants to the States. It is no wonder why they fight through battles most would have never
known existed. Asian AmericanThuy Lee, is daughter to immigrant parents who escaped Vietnam

Carnegie Hall Critique
Carnegie Hall invites some of the best young musicians to join Christopher O Riley on stage to
perform. Twelve year old Conrad Tao was the first guest welcomed to the stage in the season 1
episode that I watched. Tao lives in New York very close to Carnegie Hall. His performance
automatically jumped him into his piece. His choice of musicwas Kreisler s Tambourin Chinois.
The young player has a lot of style with a straight face while doing so. Christopher O Riley
surprised me when he was using a iPad to automatically flip the pages of his sheet music.
Technology being used in this performance just surprised me. After Tao s performance O Riley
ask him if he has any other interests besides music. Conrad has a love for rollercoasters. Between
riding and researching them, he basically knows all about them. The next gifted musician
welcomed to stage is a clarinet player from Spartanburg, South Carolina named Nicholas Graham.
I can relate to his instrument very much. He reminds me of my older sister growing up playing the
clarinet. Nicholas performs the first part of the fantasy piece by Schumann. There was a lot of
reasoning why he choose this specific piece. He shares with the audience that he heard the song

he was brought back to the stage was for a final performance. His final performance is a piece he

Breast Lift Persuasive Essay
The Reason Why More And More Women Are Getting Breast Lift Sydney
A breast lift is a plastic surgery procedure that tightens the tissues making up the breast. In
addition, it does away with excess and unnecessary skin in order to make them look more full and
contoured. The breast lift is also referred to as a mastopexy. It is a process that is recognized by
the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
It is one of life s inevitable and foregone conclusions, as sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in
the west, that a woman s breasts lose their youthful perkiness and shape. Yes there are some natural
things a woman can do to keep the rate at which this happens in check, but it is bound to slowly but
surely happen.

Relationship Between The Child And Parent
Introduction In the two presented books, the main theme outlined in both texts is the theme of
relationship between the child and parent. Chinua Achebe in his book, Marriage is a Private Affair
developed this theme in the marriage perception outlining the conflict which occurred between a
father and his son (Achebe 22). On the other hand, Alice Walker in her book, Everyday Use,
developed a story of familywho consist of a motherand her two daughters. One of her daughters
proved to be rebellious and went against the family norms (Walker 47). This paper will outline
some of the similarities and differences in the parent child relationship in these two books. The
differences and similarities will be developed from the themes, settings and character traits of the
characters of the specific texts.
Comparison of the parent/child relationships in Everyday Use and Marriage Is a Private Affair In
comparing the relationship between parent and the child as evidenced in the texts, it clear that in
both cases the parents and the child tend to know each other perfectly. In many situations this is
naturally and as that is the first person a child interacts with. In focusing on the two texts, we find
that as much as Nene tries to convince Nnaemeka to write a letter to his father telling him about
their new life, he refuses since he knows his father better than Nene. He knows that it will shock
his father and such news should be broken through face to face conversation. The same is

Forecasting in the fashion industry is usually a complicated due to the fact that it s characterized by
high demand, short product life cycles and different varieties of product lines. Consequently,
managing customer demand tends to be difficult, for organizations have to avoid large volumes of

these factors have slowed the growth of this industry. As a result, this made it difficult for the
companies to create brands which can offer high quality products with cheap prices (Fernino et al.,

Thousands of people are residing in United States prisons and jails, and they go untreated. The very
institutions which confines offenders, creates people with mental illness and drug addictions
disorders. Crime needs varying interventions targeting problem specific areas due to numerous
factors. The United States is the world leader in the increasing prison rate, in both as a percentage
of population and raw figures. As per a fresh report which employs data of each and every state,
a record 2,319,258 citizens were in prison or jail at the beginning of 2008; which means one
amongst every 99.1 adults. The increasing rate of prisoners do cost very high to the tax payers as
well as other plans of government. US government spent six times more on prison inmates than the
rate of increment for higher education expenditure. Another negative impact is that due to budget
shortfalls faced by states, they had made a proportionate reduction in expending on education and
other social requirement (Levinson 2002, p. 34). The rate of African Americans imprisonment is
radically greater than for the total population. A shocking ratio, one out of every nine black men

loyal to the Shah and his regime. He created the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to protect the
revolution within his country and keep the conventional army forces, who remained loyal to the
Shah, from rising up against him. He also hoped that the large population of Shi a Muslims in Iraq
would support his mission and rise up against their secular leader; this would keep the revolution
going strong.
Iran cut all ties with the United States and lost its dominance in the area; it s army was
disorganized and weak. The Iranian Revolution created disorder in many Iranian military units and
Iranian confrontation with the U.S. ensured it would be cut off from its primary weapons supplier.
During the year after the fall of the Shah, many areas of Iran were approaching civil war; this
frenzy in Iran made the country seem much more vulnerable than it really was, and led Saddam
Hussein to feel he had his first genuine opportunity to make Iraq the dominant power in the area
and the Arab world (Cordesman Wagner, 1990).
Hussein knew that there was a possibility that the Shi a population in Iraq could rise against him,
but he also knew there was a chance that he could get the Arabs in the southwest regions or Iran to
rally behind him. Iran publicly supported Shi a and Kurdish rebellion in Iraq and due to tense
relationships and continued border clashes over territorial disputes, tensions increased.
Finally, Hussein recaptured the areas that rightfully belonged to Iraq in

exceptional quality to it that contributed greatly to the Renaissance. The High Renaissance was a

Michelangelo sculpted a David before the battle with Goliath, because this statue was a way to
portray a new light for the people of Florence. In this statue David is holding a fruit this represent a
sense of integrity and intellect a calmer way to look at things.
The similarities between the two David s are that both are nude, both portray strengths and each
one hold the contrapposto stance. The one of the differences between the two Davids is in the
eyes Michelangelo s David has very detailed eyes there looking forward as if to see with an open
heart what might be coming next the eyes seem almost embracing and intimidating. Michelangelo
seems to represents David in his prime In my opinion the best work of art came from Michelangelo
because of the amount of detail that was put into it.
They did show humanism in their work. Humanism was not a religion but more of a life
philosophy. They focused more on their accomplishments and skills rather than their position in
society. They were all men of accomplishment. Humanism is also used to refer to the style they
used in their art. Before them, most art appeared flat and two dimensional. With the influence of
humanism, these artists focused more on detail and bringing out the illusion of space, form, and
dimension. They were among the first to use perspective.
So to sum up, they showed humanism in their careers and their artwork.

  • 2. Aqueducts Of The Roman Aqueducts For thousands of years, the Aqueducts of Rome have inspired and changed the ways we look at water supply and usage today. The Romans used their engineering and building skills to improve the standard of life of the people of Rome, Revolutionising water collection and usage. By investigating the aqueducts of Rome and presenting evidence and information about how and why they were built, this report will question whether aqueducts were better built than today s bridges. The word aqueduct is Latin and comes from aqua and ducere meaning to lead water . The Roman aqueducts were a network of channels and pipes built above and below ground with a purpose to carry water across expanses of land. The concept of the Roman aqueducts is simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Access points were also built along the path of the aqueduct to regulate the water supply and clear debris. As the aqueducts approached Rome, the water was emptied into 3 holding tanks castella (see fig.3). Each holding tank pumped water for a specific purpose such as for public baths, drinking fountains or piping water to the rich. None of the water that the aqueducts used was wasted as the left over water was used to flush out sewerage systems, power machinery and for agricultural purposes. The senator Sextus Julius Frontinus from the 1st century AD explained in detail how the aqueducts worked. A quote from his book states the different uses of a Roman aqueduct: The supply which suffices not only for public and private uses and purposes but also for the satisfaction of luxury. The use of water for many different purposes was unique at the time and ensured that little was wasted. Every Roman by the 2nd century AD had free access to public baths and running water, which greatly improved Rome s standard of living at the time. Private access to water was also common with a cost occurring to pipe water to houses and buildings. Sometimes water was tapped unknowingly or pipes were unlawfully connected to the aqueducts or widened. Some privately operated aqueducts were also used and pumped water directly to buildings. The aqueducts are mostly identified today by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Essay Rulemaking by Cornelius Kerwin According to Cornelius Kerwin, Rulemaking is the single most important function performed by agencies of governmentВ…Rulemaking refines, and in some instances defines, the mission of every government agency. In so doing it provides direction and content from budgeting, program implementation, procurement, personnel management, dispute resolution, and other important government activities (Preface XI). This is the foundation for the book, Rulemaking. The whole text primarily revolves around this statement. Throughout the book Kerwin s central theme is that rulemaking is the single most important function that any government agencyhas within its possession. Much like other admin law books he discusses how those agencies with their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book starts out strong and extremely informational, slows down extremely in the middle chapters and ends in theory, which is somewhat thought provoking. Moving on now with the pro s and con s of Kerwin s book Rulemaking. The pro s: Unlike many other public administration texts and especially those dealing with admin law, Kerwin used many current policies and procedures. By this text being more up to date it allows the readers to associate more current affairs. It brings to the table many examples within the Clean Air Act and Medicaid. The cases and explanations are thoroughly defined and easy to follow. Kerwin also discusses strategies chosen by various Presidents, and Congressional members to control the rulemaking/policy making powers of various agencies. He discusses everything from writing extremely specific laws that limit the powers of the agencies so that they cannot stray from the path that Congress intends for them, to threatening to reduce agency budgets if they do not comply. The con s: The author put a lot of patriotic cheesiness into this book in many places. The biggest spot would have to be Chapter 5: Participation in Rulemaking. It makes one want to go grab a democracy flag and be patriotic. For example, page 159 paragraph three states, Comments from the public, alert agencies to gaps in their knowledge and provide them with an understanding of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It exposed the industry as a dirty industry that was not very well regulated at all and that the meat that they produced was often contaminated and could make individuals who ate it very ill. This caused major outrage throughout America and in 1906 a meat inspection bill was passed by Congress so that the meat industry could be regulated so individuals would not have to eat dirty meat like they did before. • 7. Example Of Diction In Hamlet Within Shakespeare s writing there is an importance of the diction he uses, in order to enhance central themes of the play. In addition, his diction creates allusions, connotations, denotations, and ambiguities in order to allow the play to capture characters feelings and relations to the overall themes. One line in act one was, I am a little more than kin and less than kind (25). The word kin means son, but Hamletsays the phrase, a little more than kin , in order to express how he is related more to his uncle than just as a son, but also as his cousin. Which allows him to go on to explain how this circumstance is, less than kind . The actual definition of kind is polite but when Hamlet says, less than kind he is inferring how appalling that his mother would shortly after his father died, marry his father s brother. A brother in law, in Shakespeare s day was considered your actual brother, therefore, the queen marrying Hamlet s uncle was known as incest, which is a common theme. Consequently, this line contains emotional resonance, or connotation. As, mentioned the queen s action was frowned upon to marry in your family, therefore, the audience may be feeling disgusted and pitying Hamlet for the injustices that his mother has done for the family. Another way shakespeare uses his diction in order to develop characters and central themes, is whenever the King talks. For example, when the king talks to Hamlet about how crude and un king like Hamlet is acting, the king makes sure to point out for these reasons Hamlet is not fit for being king. One line that the king said was, Tis unmanly grief (27), which allows for the audience to once again feel a negative connotation. The emotional appeal of the word, unmanly is how one may be extremely sensitive as would a female would be and would never be able to get the job done. In addition, the actual definition or the denotation of the word is for one to not act man like and is weak or cowardly. Therefore, the king, Claudius, is calling his son a coward who is weak and too sensitive for the job. Which allows for the audience to feel as if the king is the best person for the job and that he must be trustworthy and no one could rise against him. Yet, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Why The Failure Of The Allies s Cross-Channel Invasion In 1941, Churchill and Roosevelt and their advisers met in Washington. Their first strategy was to defeat Germany and after they ll go after Japan. America planned it as soon as they would stabilize in the southwestern Pacific. Their plan was to make a cross channel invasion of Europe from Britain. The Allies could nt have enough ships to invade Europe before the next spring of 1942. Their next thought was to plan a bomb on Germany. During they would wait and send war materials to the Soviet armies fighting Germany in Russia. Churchill wanted to keep going and mess up Germany from the Meditterranian. For example they wanted to ruin Africa, Sicily, Italy, and so on just until Germany was so weak, they would invade across the Channel. America wanted to make a cross channel invasion of Europe as soon as possible. In 1943, the Allies agreed to a round the clock bombing campaign against Germany. In the end there was no definite plan for a cross channel invasion other than to agree to do it someday. In 1943, at the Tehran Conference, Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill held a final blueprint for allied victory. Physical Therapy Goals As a physical therapist, I will embody APTA s vision by providing quality, client centered therapy geared toward improving each patient s life by enhancing his or her movement capabilities. Limited or painful movement can create a multitude of issues for a person, and my goal is to allay each of these when treating patients. To provide the best care possible, I will be perceptive of clients needs as well as individual traits and always have the patient s best interest in mind. Restoring and improving movement are among the key goals of physical therapy. However, movement is not only beneficial to keeping one s body healthy but also essential to maintaining physical, mental, and spiritual health. However, if that patient has a phobia of water, trying to force him or her into the water will remove any initial trust between the patient and myself. Shortly before Lingle s entrance into the Old Dominion, Flynt states that Presbyterians had clearly opted for a mixture of spiritual and educational salvation. Other writers of Presbyterian history have not been so interested in such themes, however. Don K. Clements, speaking about much broader chronological implications, has been especially critical of those who adopted a more progressive stance to Presbyterianism. He stated: The Southern Church saw herself as holding the Old School position, which gave rise to the Southern Presbyterian distinctives. With the passing of the first generation of leaders, the Southern Church was unable to replace them with men of equal soundness and stature. The result is that the Southern Church lasted as a sound denomination for seventy or eighty years, and then was taken over by the liberals in the church. • 15. Erving Goffman s Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life Erving Goffman was a Canadian born sociologist and writer. He was made a president of the American Sociological Association. His best known involvement and contribution to the social sciences is his theory of symbolic interaction and dramaturgy, which began with his 1959 book The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. This report explains that individuals have the ability to choose their stage, the character they play, and the costume they wear in specific social situations (Goffman, 1959). He also worked with the total institution model, and used it to construct his studies, mostly in Asylums. A total institution is a residence and workplace for similar people, who are cut off from the wider society for an amount of time, and who altogether, lead an enclosed form of life (Frank, 2002). This ties in with his next book about mental institutions, where he theorized that if people are treated, as they are a societal burden and placed in an institution with others, they... People come from their own social frameworks, where they occupy diverse roles. When institutionalized, these individuals are stripped of their sense of themselves leading to what Goffman described as disculturation (Davidson et, al. 2011). • 16. Research Paper On Jane Flanders The world has several great poets and many mind blowing works, each with its own way of portraying its own message and some the same ones. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on the same idea but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand while not revealing the real meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Flanders sees the world as simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first, as you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches a rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a haywain trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough. Horizons are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted and used for the wrong reasons. Flanders uses this line to represent the things in the world that are there and difficult to get without giving up something in return. The special treasure that is there from the start is often not appreciated but the ones that have been worked for do not tend to lose their value over time. Robert Frost, on the other hand, used a more fictional approach in Nothing Gold Can Stay . Nature s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. The United States uses what is known as plurality voting, meaning the candidate with the largest percentage of votes wins. This is also a winner takes all system, where losers of the election receive no representation. However, in both cases, the same amount of representation is awarded. In essence, 39% of the winning voters in District A are not being represented. Similarly, all votes to the losing candidate are wasted their desires are in no way reflected in the result of the election. Two types of gerrymandering are most common; cracking and packing. Did you need training wheels? Or did you need that gentle push from a parent or relative? These were the foundations that prepared you for many years of enjoyable bicycling! As stated in the previous powerpoints, it is important to analyze each variable, especially our independent and dependent variables to determine the type of statistical techniques to use in answer our research questions and/or hypotheses. One analysis that we perform on each variable is the distribution of their scores. As with other powerpoints, this powerpoint supplements your readings for the purpose of providing a better understanding of the module s concepts. Yet, it does not replace the need for reading your textbook. Additionally, embedded in the powerpoint are questions to test your assimilation of these concepts. So, let s begin. The Romance Language In today s society, almost everyone is familiar with the languages of Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Romanian, and Catalan, or better known as the Romance languages . One might wonder as to why they are commonly known as the Romance languages, and the simple answer is that all these languages lead back to the language of the Romans: Latin. Latin became a language commonly used during the start of the city of Rome, around the Tiber River, in the seventh century B.C., but unfortunately came to an end during the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965, where the Catholic Church made the decision to change the language of the liturgies from Latin to the vernacular language of the area. Although the Latin language is considered dead in modern society, the evolution of Latin into the Romantic languages has been able to influence billions of speakers since the ninth century. One might be inquisitive as to how a language can change over time, but languages do not just change, they evolve, as well. Language is a natural growth, and not an instrument which we shape for our own purposes (Orwell 707). Languages cannot change by force, but rather will change over a period of time with the help of society to influence the development of words and phrases. The evolution of languages comes naturally, usually with influences from other spoken languages close enough to the main region where a language is spoken. These changes enter the language, and, with time, the language has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Albee s title, on the other hand, is rich in intellectual and moral substance, since it refers to a host of ideas and feelings associated with the fondest hopes of participants in the American experience, both historic and contemporary. The title is also a fitting thematic label for the play since the dialogue explicitly refers to the American Dream after the Young Man appears on stage. Ionesco s title like all titles, an authorial comment on the text rightly says that the play lacks meaning; Albee s says that it refers to a lot of meaning. That meaning is most obviously associated with the Young Man, since he is specifically identified as the American Dream by the dialogue of the play. The less obvious but more important meaning is embodied in Grandma. The goal of this essay will be to clarify how Grandma s character and experience bear most of the meaning of the American Dream that Albee wants to communicate in this play. As we shall see, that meaning fits squarely within the mainstream American humanist tradition stretching back to the early, idealistic years of the American republic. Even though she is a physical disaster, many critics have noticed various kinds of attractive qualities in Grandma. Don D. He created the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to protect the revolution within his country and keep the conventional army forces, who remained loyal to the Shah, from rising up against him. He also hoped that the large population of Shi a Muslims in Iraq would support his mission and rise up against their secular leader; this would keep the revolution going strong. Iran cut all ties with the United States and lost its dominance in the area; it s army was disorganized and weak. The Iranian Revolution created disorder in many Iranian military units and Iranian confrontation with the U.S. ensured it would be cut off from its primary weapons supplier. The similarities between the two David s are that both are nude, both portray strengths and each one hold the contrapposto stance. The one of the differences between the two Davids is in the eyes Michelangelo s David has very detailed eyes there looking forward as if to see with an open heart what might be coming next the eyes seem almost embracing and intimidating. Michelangelo seems to represents David in his prime In my opinion the best work of art came from Michelangelo because of the amount of detail that was put into it. They did show humanism in their work. Humanism was not a religion but more of a life philosophy. They focused more on their accomplishments and skills rather than their position in society. They were all men of accomplishment. Humanism is also used to refer to the style they used in their art. Before them, most art appeared flat and two dimensional. With the influence of humanism, these artists focused more on detail and bringing out the illusion of space, form, and dimension. They were among the first to use perspective. So to sum up, they showed humanism in their careers and their artwork. Leonardo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
