2. Research
• Research helped me see how to approach designing a front cover and how
you should space each element used. For example if you are going to
include interview bubbles they need to be evenly spaced and planned for
very meticulously so that they don’t obscure the centre piece photo by
overlapping it or just obstructing too much of the background/foreground.
Research also helped me when designing the logo for the front cover by
showing me that making more of an actual logo with some design details
other than just plain text is a lot more appealing than just a semi-unique
font on the top of a page.
• If I were to improve my research I think I would’ve included some more
variety of magazines to study from the same genre to get a wider range of
examples for designs etc, etc.
3. Planning
My strengths when planning for the creation of
the front cover and double page spread were
definitely my moodboard and the breakdown of
what I wanted to create in my mindmap. My
moodboard helped me decided on a colour
palette that I could use in both of my front
cover and my double page spread or one
palette for each piece. One of the images I
found and added to the board I actually ended
up using for the back drop of the front cover as
it just fit so well. My mind map allowed me to
combine my interests into a joint idea that
would work as a magazine as well.
I think some weaknesses to my planning was
the low amount of different genre options etc
that I could’ve included in my mindmap, if there
was a little more variety I may have made a
completely different magazine.
4. Time Management
• I think I managed my time well, however finding all the different elements
needed for the front cover did definitely cut into production time for the
double page spread which if given additional time would’ve been a lot
better. If I had more time I’d do some more research into a vast array of
different photoshop techniques that I could’ve perhaps applied to my
pieces, and will in the future, however I did not spend too much time
researching this to begin with as I only wanted to use what was necessary
and not use too much production time on experimentation.
