2. Process
For my experiment I
created a 3 frame
animation of a dog
speaking. I created the
image using the pencil
tool scaled down to a 1
pixel size, then once it
was done I created a
timeline sequence and
made different layers
with newly drawn mouth
movements and added
each new layer to the
timeline
3. Reflection
• If I end up including cutscenes into my game I
would utilise this same process to create
mouth movements
• I could also use this process to create
movement that is more complex as well
4. Process
For this experiment I used
some reference images/gifs of
idle stances from a fighting
game known as “King of
Fighters”. The game’s art style
uses pixel art so I used an idle
stance of one of the
characters from the game as a
way to draw reference. I used
a video timeline again and
redrew the arms and legs
each time in slightly different
positions to create the look of
subtle movement. I also
included a count down to the
beginning of a match as well
5. Reflection
In my final product I will most likely use this
technique to create idle stances for at least 2
characters that could be present on screen. One
technique I found especially useful for animating
was to lower the opacity of a previous frame
and then trace over it from a slightly different
angle to create the look of a subtle movement
that would be present in an idle animation
6. Process
For this experiment I wanted to
try creating a health bar that
depletes after taking a hit from a
combo. I used the rectangle tool
to make the shape and then
distorted it to make the trapezoid
that would represent player 1’s
health bar, then I created a
separate inner shape that
represents the health (orange)
and one layered underneath
(blue) to represent the empty
health. For each frame I resized
the orange health bar and added
1 to the combo each time.
7. Reflection
• This experiment in particular I think I’ll
definitely use in my final project as it seems to
work really well as long as I keep the shapes
consistent, and there are definitely ways to
make it easier through opacity sliders etc. I
also really like the look of the inner shadowing
as it really gives off that health bar aesthetic
that is prevalent in many fighting games
