I feel like I did a good job on the research portion of the project as I really tried to make sure to include a
range of different ideas and angles each aspect of what I was hoping to make. I made sure that I was thorough
with exploring my ideas, really trying to get an understanding of all the different types of products I was going
to make. I wanted to add something different to my final product and that meant having to do further
research into things like festival posters and CD cases as well as the front covers and double page spreads.
I think I did a good job of the additional research as well, giving my early ideas on what the locations I'd like to
use are, the topics I would like to cover as well as the skills I would need to develop further in order to
execute everything in the way that I wanted, this being the reason I think that the research portion of this
project is where my ideas were starting to take shape.
The practical research is something that I really should take into consideration more when the opportunity to
do it during a project comes up again, as it’s useful to have time put away specifically so that I can develop
any skill that I want, knowing that I will need it during my production. Everything that was a part of my
practical research was used in the final product because I had done enough research into the product I was
going to making to know what kind of thing would be expected of me and what I wanted to be able to use. I
think this shows that the research portion of the project is really important as it gives you a chance to get to
know the genre and style and prepares you for what you're going to be creating, supporting you weeks later
when it comes time to use it.
I know that because of my personal experience with this style of product I was able to rely on my own
knowledge of the audience and could draw on that to help support my choices, but I know that there were
times when I was really unsure of the work I was producing and being able to look at the audience profile
cases helped cement that I knew what I was doing. I do however know that I won't be able to be so lenient
with the amount of audience research that I do on different projects where I don't have as much of my own
experience in the subject.

4. Planning
House style – I know there is few aspects that contribute to my house style but I know that it’s with good reason and has
been addressed in pre-production. The decision to not have a specific page layout or colour scheme linking the pages
together was one that I feel was very useful from my planning, as it meant that when it came to production I wasn’t trying
to find ways to make each page have all of the same aspects, as each page is about something different with photography
and themes/tones picked specifically for that article. I knew what I did want to be continuous, such as the same font and
placement of the page numbers, the same style of article title text boxes in the same corner of the page, and the
photographer credit for each of the images I used. The page numbers were all done in the same typewriter font and all
placed the same distance from the edges of the page in the top right corner. I chose to do this as it meant that the page
numbers were easily visible to the reader and the numbers would not interrupt the images. The typewriter font is used in
other places as well but I felt it was more interesting than the font I’d chosen for the articles at such a big scale, and is
fairly neutral in style so that it doesn’t influence the overall tone of the page whilst making the bits of the page which are
necessary to making it look realistic be more individual and creating brand identity.
The other thing that the typewrite font was used for was the page titles in the top left corner of each spread, each of
which was personalised to the contents of the page, which I did not plan on but decided on after finishing the first double
page spread, realising that it would be easy to do and would help with a colour scheme on each page. I made sure that
each of the rectangles I placed were exactly the same size so that it would look more professional.
Colour Scheme – I had to divert from the colour scheme that I had chosen in pre-production, as I found that the colours I
had picked worked well with the images I was hoping to get but ultimately wasn’t able to and I didn’t want to out my
original plans ahead of the aesthetic qualities of the pages, choosing to change my plans to make sure that the pages were
working without a clash between the images and the aspects of the house style.

5. Planning
Article Copies – the spreads that I did have planned out, I was able to write the copies for ahead of time, and it helped save some
time during production for the three that were already done. Seeing as I ended up making more pieces than I’d planned for, it
really helped having written three earlier, as it I was used to the writing style of creating fake interviews and it gave me a better
indication of how many words I would need for what amount of space, saving me from having to edit the articles last second
because I couldn’t fit some of it in.
Flat plan – in this project I have found the flat plans to be both very helpful at times and really distracting at others. The plans I
made for the cover and the comic and mental health spreads were great because I was able to get photography that fit in with the
layout I’d prepared and it meant moving through the page much faster. However for the festival poster and tattoo spread I found
them to be slowing down my progress, because when it came to starting production on both of them I realised that I wasn’t going
to be able to follow the layout I’d set for myself, due to not being able to get the right pose in a high quality for the tattoo spread
and not being able to work out how to make everything fit on an A4 page for the festival poster. What I should have done once I
realised I was going to have to change the layout was focus on how else I could do it, researching similar products that I could
draw inspiration from but I found myself desperately trying to make the original flat plans work, wasting a lot of time on
something I knew wasn’t going to work because it meant abandoning what I had planned weeks ago and was meant to stick to.
Flat plans are definitely something I’m going to give more attention to in the next projects, as well as creating at least two
different versions of each one, so that if one of them doesn’t work I still have something pre-planned to fall back on before I have
to start thinking about an entirely new layout.
Resources – the recourses slide came in useful as it allowed me to have a list to look
back on whenever I needed to think about what I was able to use and what I had at my
disposal, and because of this I know that In future I will make sure to make it much
more extensive. I did not end up using the two top locations but the other three were
all featured in the final product. All of the equipment I planned to use were used in
production, the bass not in the way that I was expecting. The bass was there originally
to be a part of the front cover but I did not end up using it in that page. The bass was
used as an outline on the festival poster as the shapes of the instruments I as using
were coming off of the internet but I knew I was able to substitute at least one of them
with my own image.

6. Planning
Contingency Plan – the contingency planned was actually really useful for
b=me during this production whereas in previous projects I didn’t see
much use in it, and I would like to think that this is because this project
has been much more extensive than any others that I have done before
due to the much longer schedule we are given as well as the amount of
work that I was able to produce. I was able to avoid having to refer to the
last three potential issues on the list as they did not occur however the
top four had to be handled to some degree. Models failing to show I was
able to reschedule as quickly as possible and focus on other aspects of
the project in the mean time, failure to attend college I tried to tackle as
much as I could by working on the project from home. As for lack of
internet I was able to find an old laptop that had the entire Microsoft
package installed meaning that I could easily switch devices when
necessary.
Health and Safety in the classroom – I think that out of all of the potential
issues that I wrote about the ones I had the most problem with were back
pain and eye strain due to the amount of the time spent looking at a
screen and the position that I had to keep for three hours at a time during
lesson combined with my regular back pains. I made sure to take time
during the lesson to rotate my upper body and stretch as much as I could
as I know that my body can sometimes react very negatively to being in
the same position for too long

7. Planning
Health and Safety on location – the location health and
safety table was something I didn’t actively refer to when
going to go on photoshoots but I know that I thought about
each one before I went out with the camera. During the
front cover photoshoot the image was taken underneath a
train bridge with a road beneath it, meaning that I was
having to ensure the safety of myself and the model by being
more cautious of our surroundings. There were two times
where weather had to be taken into account, during the
tattoo shoot and when I was taking images at the festival.
The tattoo shoot I had to account for the intense sunlight
that was outside when adjusting the shutter speed on the
camera, which is why I think some of those images came
out so dark and pixelated. During the festival there was quite
a lot of rain and overcast so I wanted to make sure that the
main stage was getting the correct amount of lighting and
the indoor stage lighting was catching correctly on the
camera. I didn’t have to worry about risky photography
directions as none of my photoshoots were too precarious.
When it came to the higher change of damaging equipment
on location the only time that I felt like I had to really take
care of the devices I was shooting with was during the
festival, especially for the grandson gig review spread, as the
staging area was quite small and I had to be quite close to
the front of the crowd in order to get a good shot, seeing as I
didn’t have the opportunity that professional photographers
get by being behind the barriers and being able to work
outside of the crowd. This meant being next to the part of
the very energetic crowd, and due to the style of the music
the audience was more aggressive than a standard show,
with running and pushing against one another. It was a risk
that had to be taken as being further away from the stage in
the calmer part of the crowd would have made getting a
high quality image much more difficult.

8. Time Management
When it came to my time management, I knew I would have to be a lot more precise than I had been in previous rotations because although
we had double the amount of time for production compared to the previous projects, I’d learnt that it’s very easy to loose time if things aren’t
planned as you can get stuck due to poor planning. I also wanted to make sure that I was going to take full advantage of the time that I was
given to produce the best content I could. The main thing I wanted to make sure I planned ahead of time was photoshoots, as this came as a
major setback during the print rotation. When production started I knew what I needed for each of the pieces I wanted to make and had
picked models out for each ahead of time. This meant that I was able to easily agree on times with them at locations picked out fitting my
needs. As for time management in the classroom, I’ve learnt that as long as I am able to have the images I need to work on, I know that I will
be able to get through all the pieces with ease, even if it does mean sacrificing a proper schedule. Things can easily change during production
but I know that when I'm in the classroom I know exactly what needs to be done, where I need to put my focus on, just as long as I don’t get
stuck wasting time because I have no where else to focus on.
As always the photoshoots didn’t go exactly as planned but this time I was able to avoid being stuck for long periods of time because the first
half of shoots went well, meaning that when it came around to when the second half were planned, even though they were pushed back by a
week or so I was still able to use that time to catch up on any last pieces that were missing in relation to article copies and final bits on the
PSD files.
My production diary keeping was poor and I know that’s something I’m going to have to improve on because of the requirements for the
grades that I want. I knew it was something I had to focus on but I know that I can work on a word file at home whereas Photoshop is
available to me only during lesson hours. I did however make sure, that even though I wasn’t doing the entries during college hours, that I’d
have al the screenshots that I needed when I did get around to it.
Something that I didn’t realise until now was that during the first three weeks I’d created five different pieces but also managed to make
another five in the final week. I think that this is due to the fact that when we start a new project, I am always very unsure in what I’m making
and it takes time to experiment with what I think will look good, the house style and how I want to lay everything out. Once I know how
everything needs to look, it’s a lot easier for me to put work together because I'm more confident in my decisions, allowing me to double the
amount of work I’ve made in a third of the time.
The advantages of my time management is that I was able to plan my photoshoots a lot better than in previous projects, I had a good idea of
the order in which I was going to be working on each piece, and in the end my time management allowed me to create a couple additional
spreads that I hadn’t planned for, meaning I was never wasting classroom time due to not having anything to focus on, suggesting that the
next time I have a schedule like this I will be able to push the amount of work that I include.
Disadvantages are that admittedly not all the photoshoots went to plan and I did have to wait to start on certain pages. Looking back on it I
feel like I could have done more in the first three weeks as proven by the last week, but it will have to come from finding more confidence in
my design decisions earlier on in the project.

9. Time Management
Keeping to the schedule I’d prepared in pre-production started off well, knowing that I could begin the process with the CD case, which didn’t
require an image from a photoshoot, as I find it difficult to start spreads and covers without the main image to work around. This meant I
wasn’t wasting any time at the beginning of the first week not starting production due to lack of photography. The CD case was something I
had to come back to within the first week as the images I had taken ahead of time didn’t look good with what I had made. But luckily I was
able to avoid wasting time waiting on finding something outside of college hours, by re-evaluating my options from the research I had done,
and finding an image that I had taken a couple months ago that I found worked well with the layout and colour scheme.
For the mental health spread I’d asked the model I’d picked out to come to the studio, and there was another one of our mutual friends so I
took advantage of having another person there and included her in the shoot, despite not having a spread planned out for her as it meant
that if I were to get stuck or had additional time left towards the end of the project I would be able to create another piece without having to
worry about finding a time for worked for both of us on short notice. I was able to complete the mental health spread on time and had a
photoshoot planned the next day for the tattoo article, meaning that the little time I had spare in between I was able to continue work on the
case and pick out which image I wanted for the unplanned spread.
The tattoo spread took the longest out of all the final ten pieces I made, as personally it was my favourite and I really wanted to make sure
that I looked good but I had to alter the plans I’d made for it due the fact that some of the images weren’t useable as during the photoshoot
the shutter speed changed without my noticing. It took me through to the second week, meaning that the first week was ended with a CD
case, and nearly two double spreads.

10. Time Management
The second week began by trying to finish up the tattoo spread, adding details and working out how to space out the article around the pull
quote in InDesign. Having completed that I started looking at the unplanned spread, thinking about what kind of article I could write so that
it fit in with the image as well as the general tone of the magazine. I came up with the plan to have it be a piece about an up and coming
band that got a feature in the magazine due to their quick success. Having not planned this, working out the layout and direction of this took
a while longer than the previous spreads. The process was slightly frustrating and took me to nearly the end of the second week, at which
point I turned my attention to the festival poster that I had planned.
During pre-production I had created a flat plan for the festival poster but when it came to production I struggled to come up with inspiration
that would work with the layout of the flat plan. I took some time during lesson to look through pre-existing products and re-created the
idea and put my focus on that, as it didn’t require any model photography and I could work on it uninterrupted. This left the second week
with the another two spreads completed.
The third week consisted of finishing the festival poster, in that including using exchanging an edited google image with one that I took
myself over the week and editing it to fit the style of the rest of the poster. The photoshoot that was planned for the last day of the second
week was now moved to the last day of the third week, meaning that I wouldn't’t be able to begin working on the comic spread. I knew that
the front cover photoshoot wasn’t a set day as the person who I’d chosen has a very irregular schedule and this was moved into the last
week as well. Having lost the chance to work on the next two planned pieces in the last hours of the third week I made sure to do all that I
could, writing the articles that I would need for the comic book spread, updating my production diary and editing any final things on the
finished products that I felt could be improved. I finished the third week with a CD case, three double page spreads and a festival poster.
Between the third and fourth week, we had a half term, during which I attended a festival and was able to get more images that I could use
in my project.
During the final week I doubled the amount of products I’d made in the first three weeks. I knew what I had planned for the comic spread
and was able to complete it in two sessions. I decided to use the festival images to create a gig review by a fan who was sent by the
magazine to work the festival for them, making an overall page for the entire event, and another spread detailing how one of the shows
they attended went. This was done in another three sessions. On the 15th day of production I knew I had planned to create a contents page
so I went through the images I’d gathered from the entire project and picked out which ones I thought would be best to be featured. I was
finally able to get my front cover image with two days left, the first being spent creating the contents page and finally being able to create
the front cover on the last day, which I found to be easier than at the start as everything that can be featured on the cover has already been
made.

11. Technical Qualities
During this project, getting a lot of the technical qualities to a place where I was happy with what the end result was took some time
with each process, as every page that I began brought it’s own challenges that took experimenting with different ideas and techniques
before I was able to get a good idea of how I wanted to do things, so that the rest of the process was able to move along smoother.
Trying to work out where I wanted my guides and how to layout text and house style, photography and effects meant working with new
tools in Photoshop and doing new things to try and make sure that my work was the best it could be from start to finish.
Festival Poster – the biggest challenge with this page was making sure that the text was laid out correctly, and even though I had worked
on line-up text in my practical research, the final product proved to e more challenging as it meant having to incorporate things that I
didn’t need to think about during the research such as the background that would effect where the text would be placed. In the end the
process went as setting up two text boxes in the exact same size, making sure to leave a gap between the two large enough that the text
was clearly separate, setting the paragraph as justify all so that the letters would fill the entire space given in the text box, making sure to
try and pick the band names that have a compatible length so that they fit onto the line correctly, maximising the use of the space. I
used periods to separate the band names on the same line, and had to lift the height which it sat on as I wanted it to be placed in the
middle of the line.
Guides - something that I found during the print rotation earlier in the year was that I struggled to realise how much space there was on
a double page spread, as before that I had only worked on A4, and was unsure on what proportions I should be using. When I started the
first double page spread I immediately put a guide line down the centre of the page to help me use the space correctly. when it came to
introducing the house style I added additional guide lines along the top and bottom of the page the same distance apart, giving me
space that wouldn’t have the article text and would allow me to add things such as the page title, page number and photography credits
in the same dimensions on each page.
Gradients – I used the gradient tool a couple of times during this production as I found it really useful in blending the main image into a
solid colour to give me space for the article where it would be much more visible than it would be on the background of the image,
whilst also allowing me to avoid using text boxes. I hadn’t used the tool before so there was a sort of trial period with it every time I
wanted to use it on a page, as I had to think about how far I wanted it to reach and it’s intensity, trying out different ideas on separate
layers, giving me the ability to see which one I thought looked the best. The one page that I tried using a gradient on but chose not to for
the final product was the ink review spread, as I found that the dark brick wall on the side of the image which would have been covered
by it, really interrupted the smooth flow of the colour moving over to the model, and I wasn’t able to spread it over the entire wall
without it covering the model.

12. Technical Qualities
Model Cut Out - on two pages I cut around the model so that I could place something between the model
and the background of the image. I did this using the polygonal lasso tool which admittedly does take quite a
bit of patience, having to cut carefully around every part of the model, the biggest issue being hair. On the
green Up and Coming page, I cut around the model as I found something that resembled a cup ring stain in
the custom shape tool that I thought could look good as an extra splash of colour around the model as she is
against a white background. The second time that I used this technique was on the front cover which is
something that I had planned on doing in my particle research as it is a popular way of making the model the
centre of attention in existing products, by placing them in from of the masthead. For the front cover the
process was a bit easier as there was a lot less of the model that I had to cut around.
Feather Tool – I used the feather tool for the first time on the ink review page, selecting the elliptical marquee
tool to create an oval shape around the model, inverting the selection to make the outside darker. Then on a
separate layer I copied the main image, increased the contrast drastically and moved it to the left, so that it
would be lightly visible in the feather outline of the top layer so that in the end product I have a full opacity
image of the model then a sort of shadow of her to the left. I really like the effect it gave to the image and its
definitely something I want to explore more in the future.
Tattoo Cut Out – on the same page I wanted to use the models leaf tattoos that surround her shoulders as
themed decoration for the spread, as I really like how they look and wanted to incorporate them somehow. I
did this by looking through the images from the photoshoot to find where I had the tattoos on the best angle,
using a mix of the magic wand tool and the quick selection tool to isolate them from the rest of the image and
turning them entirely black as the ink came out as a muted brown on the images. It was tedious with some of
the tattoos as the lighting during the shoot made the ink look a lot lighter than it is and it would be hard to
pick up what was the shade of the tattoo and what was the models skin.

13. Aesthetic Qualities
Along with obviously trying to make sure that the entire product has a high standard running all the way through it, ensuring the house
style was continuous and thinking back to all my research that deals with audience appeal, I really wanted to make sure that this product
was going to be something that I personally enjoyed the visual of. Firstly, because it’s my product, it’s something that I get to have
complete creative freedom over and want to be able to express my own inspirations and tastes throughout it, and secondly because the
main reason I chose to make this style of product is because I know that I would have been and still am a member of the target audience
for. A lot of the inspiration for what kind of articles I wanted to include come from magazines that I would have bought myself, meaning
that I was able to take ideas from products that I’ve been purchasing for years and make something of my own from them.
I think that a major part of putting together all the pages that I paid particular attention to was the tone of the article. I wanted to make
sure that everything reflected on the images and the text, including the colour scheme of each page, the additional font that were being
used, and the layout of the page.
For example during the production of the mental health spread I was looking at different colours all in the same shade that I found
seemed to work with the image. When I first started adding in the layers that would be affected by the accent colour I had chosen it was
a dark pink colour, the shade fit in well with the image and it looked good. The reason I changed it to a more neutral blue was because of
the connotations behind that colour, blue being seen as a sad colour but also as a calm and relaxing one which I thought expressed the
message of the article quite well.
Another way in which I tried to join aspects of the image to the rest of the piece was on the contents page, where the shade of blue that
is at the top of the image has been spread to the top half of the page using a gradient to make sure that there is cohesion between both
halves of the page, as well as providing me with a solid colour that makes sense to put text over.
I think that the most creative aspects of the aesthetic was the editing, and trying to give the page something more to focus on. The
editing was done through experimenting as well as trail and error until something appealing was reached and I'm glad I was able to have
the time in this project to try working with different effects that allowed me to find new ideas to put into my work that made it more
interesting to the eye and helped raise the standard of the work. It's good to have a general idea about the style you plan to start a
project with, but I think having the space to try out what works with a certain image or text can be incredibly helpful.
I think that the aesthetic can be easily dismissed by people who do not agree with the genre of music it is representing however, judging
from the peer feedback that I received I am confident that my product can appeal to people who are outside of the target audience, as
none of the three peers I was given feedback from fall into the group of people that this product was aimed at, and nothing negative was
said about the overall style of the magazine. This provides proof that even though the topic may not suite everyone, the standard at
which it has been produced hasn't failed.

14. Aesthetic Qualities
To show a comparison between one of my final products and one of the double page spreads that I looked at during research, I
wanted to look at the differences and similarities between the two. I know that my final product evolved into something quite
different than what I originally had planned but also don’t feel like it has to labelled as a bad thing. The two pages seem very
different admittedly but there are some similarities that I can pick out. The images have a similar tone to them, very neutral faces
on the people featured. There are a lot of differences in the layout of the page with the existing product having their image go
across the length of the page and my product being split equally between the two pages, and the placement of the pull quote.
similarities between the layout include the placement of things such as article title in the top corners as well as the page numbers
and the photographer credits, as well as having the main article text be only on one half of the entire spread. I wanted to make
sure that my article would have enough space in between the pull quote and the visual aspects of the left side. The difference
between the placement of the images mainly comes from the amount of people in the photograph, having to find space for six
people on a spread means having to use as much of the space as possible to ensure that it all fits. When working with an image
that only has the one visual focus, its important to make sure that it’s an eye-catching part of the spread. This is why I chose to
make the entire right side only the model with some additional editing around her to add more visual aspects to the spread such
as the outlines of the models tattoos being used as decoration around the page and adding a shadow of the model on the left.

15. Audience Appeal
Something I have mentioned many times throughout the duration of this project is that a major reason for why I wanted to create this
particular product in this way is because I am a part of the target audience for it and have been for quite sometime. In the same way
that a lot of the audience profiles I have looked at from different magazines have stated, it's become a big part of my life, influencing
music, fashion sense, friends and interests . I knew going into this that I'd be able to come up with ideas for the content, confident that
it would be something that audience members would expect from a magazine of this topic, whilst still being able to give it my own input
and style.
For example I know that a lot of readers of the magazine Kerrang! But the psychical copies of the issues rather than reading the online
content due to the fact that the magazine comes with free posters every week, which is why I wanted to include tat on the front cover.
Tattoos are a big part of rock music culture so having an article that gives the readers something linking that with a popular artists brings
two likely popular topics into one. Another reason for this spread was that tattoos are rarely a topic that gets talked about in
mainstream media so being able to give it a platform where it's likely to have an interested audience I felt was a good call.
I have three pages that include images from a popular rock/punk/emo festival in the UK, already giving it reason to be included in the
product. I think that the appeal of this falls into one of two different areas, either a want to be there or remembering being there, as the
target audience for this magazine is the same as the one for the festival. It also gives the reader a sense of community as seeing huge
crowds of people all celebrating the same thing shows that there are others that enjoy the same things and this is the place to go.
Even smaller details have been picked out to appeal to the audience, such as the sponsors I chose for the festival poster I created. There
are three clothing companies that are well known for having a connection to the genre, two local live music venues who have been
known to support other shows that fall into the style that they usually play, as well as an energy drink company whose target audience
has some crossover with my own and has a history of sponsoring festivals such as the one that is reviewed in the magazine.
The comic book spread was something I thought about during my audience research as a lot of the audience profiles that I was finding
mentioned that the readers were fans of comic books, video games and superhero movies. However knowing that this is not the case for
all of the readers I wanted to make sure that it was clear that this wouldn’t be something that is featured in the magazine frequently,
explaining at the start of the article that it was designed to give artists an opportunity to share their interests and hobbies with their
fans.
The mental health spread naturally isn't something that could be particularly appealing to any audience however I felt it important that if
I am going to produce this style of product that I include everything I think would be valuable to the reader, especially in the case of this
genre of music and the kind of young teenagers that make up a lot of the audience, who struggle with being outcasted for not listening
to the mainstream music and often times get bullied for having picked out a different lifestyle early on. A big part of rock music is
authenticity and I think addressing something like this rather than ignoring it and pretending it doesn't happen is more honest than a lot
of big media firms who don't like to delve into the subject because it's a taboo subject and shouldn’t be addressed publicly.

– On the front page the mans hair is slightly cutting over the text in an unnatural way.
– Sometimes there is quite a lot of text to read which isn't bad for this style of magazine if the
person reading is interested although for me, it is quite a lot to read in one area.

• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the different types of colours you used for different pages
as it fits with the pictures or people you are trying to talk about.
The different types of font you used for your headings made it
more interesting, so you kept my attention to new topics you
showed. The way you presented the text made the page look
nicer and gave it a authentic magazine feel to it which is nice to
see because it is clear to read and you know what you are
reading about very easily.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– There are 2 pages labelled with 24 on the top corner. You
presented the text well but for me there was to much at once.
For me I think this type of magazine you would need to pay
close attention without being able to relax while reading and
still getting the same information out of it.

• What did you like about the product?
• The front cover looks really nice, don’t have any fault with that
• The festival poster is good as well, I like the design and the different fonts for the bands, the small details
are good too
• The background on the contents page is nice, fits theme.
• The majority of the photos are taken very well in good lighting
• The background on most of the pages look very good and work with the theme of the magazine
• I like all the little details on the finished ink page, they work well and make the page more interesting and
edgy

• I would change the text on the Aaron alpha page as don’t think it really works with the rest of the page
• I would have changed the Meg page, especially the colour, doesn't’t really fit with the theme and seems
out of place. It also doesn't work as well and look as aesthetically pleasing as the other pages
• The photo on the Aaron Alpha page looks a bit distorted

20. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback
• I would argue that the Up and Coming page isn’t that much of a different style to the rest of the project and that
it is most defiantly in the tone of something that you would find in a similar existing product, it all depends on
the style of band that’s being featured and the tone of the story, as not all bands that fall under the genre of
rock are as dark as the themes in some of my spreads would suggest.
• I think that the comments regarding the amount of text that there is to read per page can be very subjective,
seeing as the longest article I had written was about 850+ words, but I think that something that needs to be
taken into account looking at those comments is that the peers who wrote them are not the kind of people who
would be interested in this kind of product. I know that this style of music and being a part of the kind of
community that is formed by the audience for this product is not something that they are interested in and I
think that would play a part in how much anyone would want to read something that they’re not strongly
interested in. I think that looking at the two magazines during production that have the same style and purpose
but are hosted for essentially the same audience but at different ages, the amount of text that I have provided
falls somewhere in between the article length you could expect from Kerrang! and Metal Hammer, and it’s
because of that I won’t be changing the lengths of the articles.

• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
• I hadn’t noticed that the page numbers were the same on two of the pieces and I’m glad I had someone to
point this out to me so that I was able to edit it before the project was due to be sent it
• I agree that the smaller details that I added to the festival poster do make a difference in the overall
appearance, paying attention to things such as sponsors and social media links that really make the entire
poster look more realistic.
• I appreciate the comments made in the second feedback slide about the colours that I used to accent each
page give the articles more of an overall tone, where everything is cohesive and compliments each other,
as well as the fonts I used for the pull quotes making it clear that it’s amount something completely new
to the previous page.
• I would agree with the first feedback slide that I made the articles sound professional but also natural from
the artists side, because it’s not them that should be acting professional, rock music is primarily about
authenticity and I wanted to make sure that everything I was writing sounded like something I would be
able to pick up a music magazine of this genre and find an article that had the same tone.
• The first feedback says that the hair on the model of the front cover is cut out around the mast head in an
unnatural way and I agree that I could have done more to make sure that it wasn't as clean cut and
blended in better with the surroundings.
