Negative Influences Of Fashion
Teenagers are exposed to numerous different pressures of having perfect bodies, and attractive faces.
Whether they get the advice from magazines, television, or the internet, many girls and boys want to
achieve society s idea of exquisiteness and perfection. Since these outlooks are huge supporters to the
adolescents low self esteems, these are the prime reasons for the high numbers of cases and operations
done.
To begin, magazines are a huge factor towards the youth s views for beauty and trends. Many fashion
companies and brands use teenagers for targeting advertising, since they are the next generation, or the
future of fashion. However, the companies only place specific looks, and models expose the next
generations to their ideals of beauty . The fashion world has evolved greatly through time, but still
possess superficial opinions. Only a few types of beauty are acceptable. In fact, some fashion
magazines in the United States still use unhealthy models, and heavily edited photos and discloses
them as real, or natural. However, France and other countries are stopping the damaging trend. Writer,
Venessa Friedman (2017), of the New York Times writes about the innovative laws and regulations for
models and the fashion world. Models must obtain a medical certificate from doctors pronouncing
them in healthy conditions and weights. The thinner models encourage eating disorders and teenagers
to receive liposuction to achieve their smaller physique. To add, the laws decree

The Pros And Cons Of Car Insurance
Ever listened to the Progressive spokesperson, Flo, talk about having the cheapest car insurance? Well,
according to Consumer Reports, a two year investigation, researchers found that Progressive has the
second most expensive car insurance in the nation. During an analysis of the five national auto
insurance providers, they discovered that Progressive rated at $600 higher than USAA. Consumer
Reports found that, overall, Geico, Allstate and Progressive had higher rates. State Farm, Amica and
USAA offered customers lower rates the study revealed.
Because legislature regulates car insurance at the state level, pricing will often have little rhyme or
reason. Nevertheless, Consumer Reports reveals some subtle truths about car insurance. First,

Should Video Games Be Considered Sports
Should video games be considered a sport , the new rising topic in gaming now. Critics and experts

Labor Unions Today
Labor unions today
Today most labor unions in the United States are members of one of two larger umbrella
organizations: the American Federation of Labor Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL CIO) or
the Change to Win Federation, which split from the AFL CIO in 2005. Both organizations advocate
policies and legislation favorable to workers in the United States and Canada, and take an active role
in Democratic party politics. The AFL CIO is especially concerned with global trade issues.
Private sector union members are tightly regulated by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA),
passed in 1935. The law is overseen by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), part of the
United States Department of Labor. Public sector unions are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It protects the right of workers to engage in any concerted activity for mutual aid or protection. Thus,
no union connection is needed. Concerted activity in its inception involves only a speaker and a
listener, for such activity is an indispensable preliminary step to employee self organization. [4]
Labor Education Programs in the United States
In the US, labor education programs such as the Harvard Trade Union Program created in 1942 by
Harvard University professor John T. Dunlop sought to educate union members to deal with important
contemporary workplace and labor law issues of the day. The Harvard Trade Union Program is now
currently part of a broader initiative at Harvard Law School called the Labor and Worklife Program
that deals with a wide variety of labor and employment issues from union pension investment funds to
the effects of nanotechnology on labor markets and the workplace.
[edit]
Jurisdiction of labor unions
Labor unions use the term jurisdiction to refer to their claims to represent workers who perform a
certain type of work and the right of their members to perform such work. For example, the work of
unloading containerized cargo at United States ports, which both the International Longshore and
Warehouse Union and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters have claimed rightfully should be
assigned to workers they represent. A jurisdictional strike is a concerted refusal to work undertaken by
a union to assert its members right to such

How Does Captain John Yossarian Avoid A Mission
Captain John Yossarian is a U.S. Air Force bombardier posted at Pianosa, situated in Mediterranean
Sea, during World War II. As a bombardier Yossarian is part of a crew of men whose job is to aim and
release bombs. However, Yossarian is convinced that everyone is out to kill him and he just wants to
survive the war, complete the number of missions required, and head back home. Yet, it seems
impossible to leave because Colonel Cathcart is constantly raising the number of mission required
before one can leave, thus making it impossible for the men to leave. This frustrates Yossarian, so he
goes to the Doctor Daneeka, who oversees the squadron, saying he is insane which as a result, makes
him unable to fly anymore missions and ultimately to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He pretends to have a strange liver disease, he has ambiguous thoughts on flying missions by dropping
the bombs as quickly as possible whether they are hitting the targets or not so they can get back to
base faster, and he also falsifies the bomb line on the map to make the commanders think the area has
already been captured, calling off the air strike from being deployed. Yossarian s analysis of other
members on the Air Force base offers a better understanding of each character and how they are just as
crazy as Yossarian. Despite, Yossarian s efforts to avoid the war, he is mortified by the death of fellow
soldiers. First Mudd, a soldier killed just two hours after his arrival, was dumped in Yossarian s tent
and even though Yossarian insists there is a dead body in his tent, everyone in the air force base denies
it. Second, was a soldier named Snowden, that died in Yossarian s arms during one of the missions.
Lastly, was Nately, Yossarian s dearest friend, whose death results in making Yossarian determined to
not fly anymore missions. Since the superior officers Colonel Cathcart and Korn are unable to stop
Yossarian from rebelling, they give him two options, he can either be sent home or face a court
martial. Nevertheless, there was a catch that if he took the option of being sent home he would have to
support the superior officers in their pursuit of requiring men to fly eighty missions before

Malnutrition And Malnutrition Among Children
Malnutrition Amongst Children in India
People who are malnourished lack nutrients the body needs for proper health and development.
Malnutrition is the inadequate nutrition caused by the lack of a balanced diet or by disorders of the
digestive system in which the nutrients from food cannot be absorbed properly (dictionary.com).
Chronic malnutrition can cause severe health problems. In recent years, India has had an
unprecedented economic growth. It improved in education, agriculture, and technology, but it still has
the highest prevalence of underweight children in the world. Half of the children are underweight in
Bimaru states of India. (sagepub.com). There are many causes and consequences of malnutrition.
Since malnutrition is affecting a large population of children in India, it is important to find solutions.
Maternal characteristics are a reason why children are malnourished. A study found that the
prevalence s of stunting, wasting and underweight were greater for children of illiterate mothers, and
lowest among children of mothers with an education of high school or more. Also, when mother s
consume tobacco and alcohol, the child has a greater risk of being malnourished ( S. Rajarm, Lisa K.
Zottarelli and T.S Sunil). Malnutrition starts even when a baby is not even born. Undernourished
mothers give birth to underweight babies, which affects the future physical and mental well being of
the child. The child rearing practices in India unfortunately are highly

Persuasive Essay On Landfills
Recycling and composting should be taken up nation wide. Our landfills are filling up across the
nation and we are running out of space to put all of our trash. Composting and recycling would not
only give back to the enviroment and improve our planet health overall, but it would allow for more
space in landfills. They state in the article that Americans produce more than four pounds of trash and
recycles only about a third of that amount. (Paragraph 3, Scentance 2.) By that logic, we keep taking
and throwing away so senslessly that in a matter of time I fear that our world will be overun with
garbage. When the landfills fill up, where is all the garbage going to go? Oceans, the streets, clearing
more land for a new one?

Comparison Of Donatello David
Part One The Donatello David is depicted more as a young boy wearing a hat and holding a sword
into the head of Goliath. He is nude in this depiction and he shown with long hair. The sculpture looks
as though it is standing still. Currently the David completed by Donatello is located in the Museo
Nazionale del Bargello, Florence. The sculpture was completed in 1440 and is purely bronze which is
shown in its dull shininess. The David stands 5 and 2 ¼ tall.
The Bernini David is a more developed man with shorter hair. He shows more of a muscular build
while he is preparing to use his slingshot to defeat Goliath as he is twisting his waist and arms as to
preparing to swing his happen with great force. This sculpture shows great movement in its detail and
this is known as dynamic action. This David is located in Galleria Borghese, Rome. The sculpture is
marble as seen it is pale color and lack of shininess shows it lacks the characteristics of it were a
bronze statue. Bernini completed this David in 1623 with the dimensions of 5 7 in height.
Part Two Compare and Contrast:
Donatello used his skill to depict David as a still figure in the defeat of Goliath. The sword is stabbed
in the head of goliath and the sculpture shows some patina as it was done in 1440 and bronze does
show rust over time which shows the coloration of green on the statue. The statue looks almost as it is
posing for its viewers showing that the little guy can beat the big guy as shown by this statue in
Florence as it pertains to them as a city against other larger Italian cities. The posture that this David
shows is contrapposto in just standing in the moment.
Bernini designed his David to appear as it was theatrical and expansive. The so called flexibility of the
sculpture is using dynamic action. The life like adult male that Bernini sculpted is in the very instant
of combat as he is readying his slingshot with a twist of his waist and arm. This differs from the David
of Donatello in that Donatello s is after the battle had taken place and shows David as victorious. Both
David s are similar in the fact that neither is wearing armor during or after the battle. Although Bernini
s David has armor at his feet but chooses not to use it as

Summary Of Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother By Amy Chua
Amy Chua, a mother of two, has written a novel Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother on the year 2011
January 11 (Chua, 2011a), and a few days before, on the January 8, she posted an article on The Wall
Street Journal, titling Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior (Chua, 2011b). In the article, Amy Chua has
compared the Western parenting style to the Chinese parenting style, and in her words, Western
parents usually don t come close to being Chinese mothers (Chua, 2011b, para. 4). But is there a need
for a hierarchy for the different parenting styles? What is the difference between parenting styles and
practices? These, will be discussed in the remaining of the essay.

Nietzsche s God Is Dead
God is dead is a widely quoted statement by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. It first appears
in Nietzsche s 1882 collection The Gay Science also translated as The science of joy German: Die
fröhliche Wissenschaft), in sections 108, 125, and for a third time in section 343 . It is also found in
Nietzsche s classic work Thus Spoke Zarathustra, which is most responsible for popularizing the
phrase. The idea is stated in The Madman as follows:
Although the statement and its meaning is attributed to Nietzsche it is important to note that this was
not a unique position as Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel pondered the death of God, first in his
Phenomenology of Spirit where he considers the death of God to not seen as anything but an easily

Feminist Sexological Analysis
The field of sexology is extremely valuable and yet often overlooked and taken for granted. Further,
the field of feminist sexology goes unnoticed or is just flat out excluded even more often. This is
certainly no indicator of its importance to society, though. Feminist sexology is vital to countering the
exclusionist approach of traditional sexology and providing new ways of approaching societal systems
and their issues. The poster fair itself was interesting and overall a positive experience in the end.
However, working on the project certainly had its ups and downs for my group and proved to be a
highly exasperating and frustrating process. Sexology as a field is relatively young, having only been

up becoming pretty stressful for both myself and for Taylor. However, as much as group projects can
be stressful and frustrating and this one was for us, I believe the poster fair project is a productive and
positive project for this class because it allows a concentrated mix of ideas and opinions while
working on a project and there s no way to do something like an informational poster fair as an
individual project without requiring significantly more time over the semester. As far as how our
poster turned out, I feel like ours fell short in appearance, layout, and overall cleanliness. I don t feel
like our design was laid out as well as it could have been, though that is partially because we had
originally intended to have another topic of feminist sexology included in the poster which was our
third group member s part demedicalization of women s sexuality and sexual problems. That fact also
made me feel our poster lacked overall flow and, in some ways, information since having only one
issue of feminist sexology seemed like not enough. However, given our circumstances, I am pleased
with what we were able to pull off and make work for our poster and I feel that we fell along the line
with many of the other posters from the other

Feminism In The Color Purple By Alice Walker
Recipient of the Pulitzer Prize and National Book award winner, Alice Walker is the author of The
Color Purple. The Color Purple has been labeled as a critically acclaimed novel. This is because
Walker has no filter discussing topics such as: race, sexism, and systematic oppression. This novel
takes place in rural South Georgia and spoken through the eyes of a young African American girl who
becomes a grown woman between 1910 to 1940. This detail is important because for people of color,
things were restricted and clearly difficult. It is even worse for women of color because not only were
they the minority but also a woman. Women are expected to abide by all rules with no hesitations, and
submit to all orders from the man of the house. This is the case in The Color Purple. For example,
Celie grows up with the mindset of that she must follow the rules of her step father and husband s
rules. This may lead them to stop their verbal, emotional, physical, and mental abuse. Unfortunately, it
will take greater heights for them to leave Celie alone. With Feminism comes the development of
character. Celie, the main character, grows into a woman who not only believes in fair treatment
amongst all but the idea itself developed through her growth. Self development is the mental, physical,
and emotion elevation over time due to experiences that develop perspectives.
To continue, the novel takes on the theme of feminism. Feminism is meant to represent the equality
between men and women

Representation of Indigenous Cultures in the Rabbits and...
Representation of Indigenous Cultures Since the European settlement of Australia, the Indigenous
people have been represented in a myriad of ways. The Rabbits (1998), an allegorical picture book by
John Marsden (writer) and Shaun Tan (illustrator) and Rabbit Proof Fence (2002), a film directed by
Phillip Noyce, are just two examples of this. Techniques such as music, changing camera angles and
symbolism are utilised in Rabbit Proof Fence to represent the Aboriginal people as strong willed and
spiritual and in The Rabbits, exaggeration, different colour themes and perspective are used to portray
the Aborigines as technologically inferior and overwhelmed against the Europeans. In both texts, the
Indigenous people are represented as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the girls do collapse onto the ground, Molly sees an eagle soaring in the sky above them. This
eagle, as explained by Molly s mother in opening scene, was a symbol of protection and safety in
Aboriginal culture. The appearance of this eagle in their time of need emphasises how the Aboriginals
are truly bonded, psychologically and physically, to their land and culture. In this scene, the camera
shifts back and forth between their elders back at Jigalong and the girls in the desert. This constant
transition conveys the relationship between the girls (protected by the eagle) and the elders praying in
an Aboriginal dialect for the girl s safety. With these few examples, we can see how the Indigenous
people have a special bond with their land through their cultural religion, which, in return, assists them
when it is needed. Powerlessness of the Numbats (Aboriginals) against the Rabbits (Europeans) in The
Rabbits is shown through the use of words within the mise en scene. Within this picture book,
Marsden contributes to the meaning of the story to the readers through very short, but powerful
sentences such as: Sometimes we had fights/But there were too many rabbits/We lost the fights. The
way these sentences are structured so that it places emphasise the appropriate scenario that is
occurring in each panel. With Shaun Tan, he conveys the powerless nature of the Indigenous by

Effects Of Sodium Chloride On Thikistrodesmus Algae Growth
Title
Sodium Chloride Acts as Environmental Pollutant by Prohibiting Ankistrodesmus Algae Growth
Introduction
Pollution negatively effects an organism s growth because it introduces harmful chemicals or products
that cause damage to its environment. The environmental pollution experiment that was performed
tested the effects of pollutants, more specifically sodium chloride, on Ankistrodesmus, which is a
species of fresh water algae. The experiment investigated the effects of different concentrations of
sodium chloride to examine if it promoted or suppressed Ankistrodesmus growth. The importance of
this experiment was to determine if sodium chloride could be classified as a pollutant for this species
of algae. Experiments conducted in 1968 show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Data collected over a period of two weeks indicates that sodium chloride prohibits Ankistrodesmus
growth since optical density measurements of each test tube were recorded in a table as well as graph
(Figures 1 and 2). The data shown in this table and graph show that although the Ankistrodesmus
algae grew slightly at some points, overall it decreased in optical density, which means sodium
chloride prevented its growth. This conclusion can also be drawn from the average net gain/losses of
optical densities table and graph. The data collected indicates that the Ankistrodesmus grew more in
the 50% sodium chloride solution, which was treatment group 3 (Figure 4). However, this cannot be
acknowledged since Day 14 s test tube readings were taken using another group s setup.
Consequently, only readings from Day 0 and Day 7 are accurate and usable. Even though treatment
group 3 s data is unreliable it s only one result and accounting this group still leaves treatment groups
1 and 2. By comparing treatment groups 1 and 2 to the control group one can easily conclude that the
optical densities of the two treatment groups decrease (Figures 3 and 4). This indicates that as the
concentrations of sodium chloride increases then the overall growth of algae decreases. Therefore, one
can conclude that from the readings sodium chloride prohibits Ankistrodesmus algae

those devoting their lives to education do so emboldened by a recognition of education s promises and

A Rhetorical Analysis Of In Cold Blood
ICB Rhetorical Analysis
Truman Capote, author of In Cold Blood, builds the setting of the small town of Holcomb, Kansas.
His purpose is to emphasize that the town of Holcomb is a small town where no one comes and no one
leaves. He includes these details to show the contrast between the town before and after the murders
of the Clutter family to the reader.
Capote begins to describe the setting by referring to Holcomb as a village, unknown to most people,
even fellow Kansans. The effect of this is to highlight that the town is small and secluded. Capote
mentions that the local accent is a barbed wire with a prairie twang, pinpointing that the village is
closed off to the outside world. The streets are unpaved and unnamed; Capote adds this detail to
continue to affirm to the reader that no one comes into Holcomb because the people of Holcomb
already know where everything is and if people did come into Holcomb, they would need to have
named streets. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses this detail to emphasize that the town of Holcomb is portrayed as a town that isn t kept up
with and doesn t really try hard to keep a good external appearance. This can also be supported by the
point that the postmistress works in a falling apart office, implying that no one ever uses the post
office. The effect of this ties into how the town isn t kept up as well as how nothing and no one comes

her friends, without including the adults, struggle to manage the bullying. Despite this immutable

wants to take Italian, she wants a cute boy to ask her out, but most of all she wants to change her
reputation. However, this does not happen so quickly. As tensions rise, Lindsey faces the complex
nature of bullying, and experiences the ups and downs of life as a high school teen.
Analysis:

One major conflict that Lindsey faces in the novel is bullying. She experiences her bullying from her
long time nemesis, Avery. Avery is Lindsey s worst nightmare. Everything Avery says, everything she
does makes Lindsey feel weak, unconfident and miserable. Avery has many tricks up her sleeves, she
knows how to make someone s life a torture chamber. For example, In P.E class Avery

Humbert s Objectification Of Lolita
Humbert Humbert is a privileged European bourgeoisie who views others, specifically young girls, as
his property and objects to be used and consumed. In this essay, I intend to argue that the patriarchal
ideology of women and girls as sexual property of the adult male serves as a means for the oppression
of Lolita throughout the novel. The ideology that women and girls are property is linked to capitalism
as an ideology that reduces young girls bodies to commodities that are intended for use and
consumption. Together these work to defend the status quo and actively promote the values and
interests of the dominant group in society; thus, intersecting to multiply the oppression and
exploitation of Lolita. In the novel, Humbert takes ownership of Lolita without her consent and
transforms her into an object, or nymphet, whom he uses for his own ... Show more content on

In chapter 13 of the novel Humbert exploits and dehumanizes Lolita in an exchange where he
discretely rubs against her until he climaxes. He justifies this objectification of Lolita stating that,
What I had madly possessed was not she, but my own creation, another, fanciful Lolita perhaps more
real than Lolita; overlapping encasing her; floating between me and her, and having no will no
consciousness indeed, no life of her own (62). He believes that he has not harmed Lolita in this
objectification because she has no knowledge of the sexual exploitation that just occurred. However,
Lolita s perspective of the event is not voiced and therefore, we do not know whether she knew of his
pleasures or not. In this instance, Humbert s greedy desire for personal pleasure overpowers him.
Freud s theory of the pleasure principle characterizes the relationship between sexuality and society as
antagonistic. Freud theorized that a tension is created when people are torn between sexual pleasure
and the social expectation to be a productive, responsible

Puritans Ethics And The Pinto Disaster
It is important to note, however, that Puritans ethics have been the catalyst that accelerated the growth
of capitalism (Weber 107). At the same time, Puritans ethics initiated a formal and instrumental
approach to life (115). In the case of the Pinto Disaster, Weber would claim that Ford s decision to
settle in lawsuits, instead of installing the safety gadget, is a mathematical approach to life. Firstly,
Weber would argue that bureaucracies structure has created a hierarchy system where workers are
powerless and have fewer obligations. According to Dowie, the Pinto engineer did notify his superior
about the defected product with a solution (16). However, the powerless engineer did not have the
approval of his superior make the necessary

Industrial Revolution DBQ Essay
During the nineteenth century, the Industrial Revolution made a significant political, economical, and
social change throughout Western Europe. The Industrial Revolution was brought on, partly, due to the
English civil war. During the Industrial Revolution, England experienced major advances in
transportation, agriculture, and manufacturing, which spread throughout Europe. By the 1830s most
European countries started railroad construction and the mechanization of manufacturing (Hunt, 654).
One of the most significant changes that occurred during this time period was the shift of labor from
small farms in rural areas to large factories in urbanized cities. The technology developed during this
period, including the seed drill, threshing machinery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Land owners moved to cities to work in factories, becoming part of the working class. The working
class became the majority. Politicians depended on the ordinary men of the working class for their
votes. This time period is also referred to as an age of ideology associated with the ideas of liberalism,
conservatism, socialism, and free market economics. The Boss System was in effect by the Second
Industrial Revolution. Politicians, running for office, used immigrants to bolster their own position by
offering them incentives or promising them jobs in factories. In return immigrants voted for these
politicians. This enabled the political party in power to maintain power. Politicians were very corrupt
and were often lining their own pockets . The Second Industrial Revolution eventually led to the 18th
amendment, passing prohibition, and the 19th amendment, legalizing women s voting rights. During
this period the idea of communism was developed by Karl Marx. This was the positive supersession of
private property as human self estrangement (Karl Marx: Scientific Socialism). Social Democracy
signified the entrance of socialists into traditional politics. Socialists formed political parties and ran

Review Of Shiloh By Toni Morrison
The protagonists are the most important characters of the stories. They play an essential part in
building the story to its climax. The protagonists encounter with different characters and their
experiences with those characters became paramount in developing the outcome of the story at the
end. Sometimes we overlook the significance of non protagonists. Many non protagonist characters
have a significant impact on the protagonists. In Shiloh written by Bobbie Ann Mason, Norma Jean
and Leroy are unhappily married couple who are going through a transformation in their marriage.
Leroy is failing to keep Norma Jean satisfied with their marriage and eventually faces a cruel reality
which will alter his life. Also in Recitatif written by Toni Morrison, Twyla who briefly stayed at St.
Bonny s orphanage, met Maggie and Roberta, who would later become indispensable individuals that
would forever change her point of view on life.
In the story of Shiloh, Leroy and Norma Jean have been in an unhappy marriage for sixteen years.
Even though their marriage was an unhappy one, it seems to be normal, from Leroy s point of view,
until he gets into an accident. According to Steward J. Cooke, he later comes to terms with the cruel
reality of his shallow/empty marriage with Norma Jean (Cooke). Even though he knows about the
abnormality in his marriage with Norma Jean, he is still stuck in the past and hoping that he could
renew their marriage and start afresh. All the while Norma Jean is

The Role of U.S. Customs and Border Protection
THE ROLE OF U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION The U.S. Customs and Border
Protection (U.S. CBP) is one of the oldest law enforcement entities in the U.S., and has a rich history
of protecting our borders. A historical overview and understanding of the U.S. Customs origins
displays how over the centuries the strategic mission of the CBP has evolved to combat threats of
specific time eras. U.S. Customs has grown from collecting of revenue during the 1800s to fighting
the War on Drugs, and well into the 21st century where combating terrorism would be yet another
mission undertaken by CBP. Without a doubt, the U.S. Customs Service has played an active role in
the protection of the nation s borders against terrorism, criminal drug lords, and even the violation of
intellectual property theft. Origins of the U.S. Customs Service The U.S. Customs was not officially
established until the 1780s. Originally, right after the American Revolutionary War, many American s
were weary of federal government s control and involvement. For this very reason many American
States would proceed and hire their own customs agents collecting revenue for the states and not
federal government. It would not be until 1787 the Abortive Impost Bill would officially be a law at
the Constitutional Convention. These new federal customs agents would now be tasked with enforcing
revenue laws. Interestingly, Customs would be the largest agency besides the Continental Army, and

Open City by Teju Cole
Teju Cole s phenomenally written original novel majorly takes place in New York City. Cole character
was easy to relate to because of his Nigerian American decent being that I am a Ghanaian American.
Cole is a Nigerian American. He was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria and came to the United States
in 1992 at the age of seventeen. Cole is also well educated and is a graduate student at Columbia
University. I found it insightful how in the novel Cole met several various types of people, including
other immigrants. He met and shared stories with a Haitian shoe shiner, at work in Penn Station; a
Liberian, imprisoned for over two years in a dentition center in Queens; and a Moroccan student
working at an Internet café. I enjoyed the fact that the narrator was well stocked minded. He touched
on the topics of art, music, and interesting books. He had a very eclectic set of interest. Another aspect
that attracted me to novel was they way it was written. Although the book did have separate chapters,
the way that it is written make the novel flow as if it was one big paragraph. There are moments in the
story where characters converse but speech is not noted by quotation marks or paragraph breaks. This
is a type of writing that even the most experience authors fail to accomplish, but Cole made it seem so
effortless. Such a style of literature is bound to keep readers interested. If felt as if the reader was
reading a diary versus a novel. Included in the novel includes forms of

Silence In The Play Trifles
The play Trifles takes place during 1957 when women were silenced; they were only addressed and
not spoken to or able to speak. They were not able to vote or partake in any dominant activities.
Nevertheless, we see both females, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale, form a silent sisterly bond while
unintentionally uncovering motives for Mr. Wrights murder. The women were not given permission to
help with the crime, while gathering items which Mrs. Wright had requested but they did it with
natural senses due to activities they take on within the household as well.
Therefore silence is firstly seen in the play when Mrs. Wright says She would wear pretty clothes and
be lively, when she was Minnie Foster, one of the town girls singing in the choir (Glaspell) says Mrs.
Hale, but that was thirty years ago before she married Mr. Wright and all her liveliness left her. When

Hale is also silent by slipping the box under quilt pieces and adding more quilt pieces over the bird to
hide evidence. She becomes silenced because she knows what being a farm wife does and how much
work is put into it. She also feels horrible for never visiting for over a year and sympathizes quickly
and feels the need to be silent in protecting Mrs. Wright.
Nevertheless Mr. Wright and the canary are seen as most silenced in the play. Mr. Wright wrung the
neck of the canary and that caused Mrs. Wright to snap, because then she strangles her husband. He
had killed the only thing that gave her joy while living in silence. Mr. Wright is also seen as a silent
man because he didn t want to place a telephone line in the house that Mr. Hale had suggested. Both
deaths were the biggest silencers of the play. Just as the bird was lived in a cage and was silenced so
did Minnie Foster. Disconnecting from the people and becoming silent made her home the bird cage

The Effects Of Pesticides On The Coffee Industry On Coffee
Coffea commonly known as a coffee plant is the member of the Rubiaceae family (USDA 2015).
While there are various species of the coffee plant, Coffee Arabica and Coffee Canephora are mostly
grown. However, between them Coffee Arabica is considered to have greater quality and flavor. With
the increase in demand of coffee within coffee drinkers globally, coffee has successfully ensured its
place to become the world s second largest commodity. Brazil is known as the top manufacturer of
coffee followed by countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Colombia, and Ethiopia (USDA 2014). The
rising demand for coffee has augmented the dependence of the coffee industry on countries that grows
coffee. Using pesticides on coffee fields seemed to be an ultimate solution for farmers who were
hoping for maximum productivity of coffee. Pesticides are used in agriculture in order to protect
plants from fungal diseases, pests, insects that affect the growth of food crops. On the short run, using
pesticides has an advantage as it increases the production and the quality of coffee. However, pesticide
practices have negative issues on the environment, the quality and the amount of coffee manufactured,
and the health of the coffee drinkers and the farmers in the long run.
The agricultural practice that involves the usage of pesticides has contributed in the exploitation of the
environment. The consumption of pesticides in countries that grows coffee has increased rapidly over
the decades. For example,

Developmental Theories Of Childhood

lacking the capacity of being indepdent alongside taking on responsibilities. Becoming
psychologically, emotionally, dependant and vulnerable together with being needy for new

(Stainton Rogers, 2009). In the findings childhood is viewed as a voyage towards adulthood, being
criticised for representing children as incompetent with attention on experiences which have been
viewed as insignificant such as the importance of play (Smith, 2013). Psychologoists such as Piaget,

A Family Of Transcription Factors
Introduction
1. The Grainyhead (Grh) gene family
Grainyhead (Grh) genes are conserved in metazoans. They encode a family of transcription factors
with a unique, unusually large, DNA binding and dimerization domain, and an isoleucine rich
activation domain(Attardi and Tjian, 1993; Gustavsson et al., 2008; Moussian and Uv, 2005; Ting et
al., 2003b; Uv et al., 1994; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). Grh factors were first
identified in Drosophila (Bray et al., 1989; Bray and Kafatos, 1991; Dynlacht et al., 1989; Johnson et
al., 1989) and since then, they were also found in animals as diverse as nematodes and humans. Grh
proteins have not yet been detected in unicellular organisms. Phylogenetic analysis subdivides this
gene family into two main classes, the Grh like sub family and the CP2 sub family, depending whether
the family members are more related to the Drosophila grh, or to another Drosophila gene, CP2 (Ting
et al., 2003b; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). The fly and worm genomes each
contain a single grh gene. Mammals, both mice and humans, have evolved three Grh homologues: Grh
like 1 (Grhl 1, or Mammalian Grainyhead (MGR)/TFCP2L2), Grhl 2 (Brother of MGR
(BOM)/TFCP2L3) and Grhl 3 (Sister of MGR (SOM)/ TFCP2L4). This group of genes encodes
proteins with highly homologous DNA binding and dimerization domains. They all show restricted
expression pattern during embryogenesis and play important roles in organogenesis and epidermal

Protista Essay
Protista are simple eukaryotic organisms where the DNA is enclosed in a nucleus inside the cell.
Protists are not animals, plants or fungi. Protists can be classified in to four general subgroups, the
plantlike algae, animal like protozoans, fungus like slime molds and water molds. Protozoa are mostly
the predators and parasites, for example, Amoeba sp. and Paramecium sp.. They live in water and
moist terrestrial habitats.
From all the microbes, viruses are the simplest and tiniest, just a ball of genes wrapped in a shell,
about a millionth of an inch across. Viruses are unique because they only alive and able to multiply

Application of microbe in industry/industries with examples
Microbes usually applied in agriculture industry because expert find out that microorganism found in
the soil can help to improve agricultural productivity. For example, microbes like Agrobacterium
tumefaciens are used in plants and this will cause the plants to be genetic engineered so that they
become more resistant to certain pests, herbicides and diseases. Furthermore, microbe like Bacillus
thuringensis is used in plant too in order to supply protein that is lethal to insects when they consume
it. This can reduce the use of chemical insecticides and become more eco friendly to the environment.
Furthermore, microbes are key component in food industry. Fermentation processes can be carried out
by using the microbes like lactic acid, yeast, moulds and bacteria to make food products like beer,
bread, yoghurt and cheese. For example, the bacterium Lactobacillus acidophilus is used to produce
yogurt. Besides, bacterial acetic acid fermentation can produce vinegars. A microbe called Aspergillus
sp. is used in the production of alcoholic beverages and also commonly used in the large scale
fermentation in the production of Japanese

Kabuki Theater and Performances
In Kabuki theatre, everything that is seen on the stage is the result of a meaningful inner dynamic
which completes the performance by the coordination of the actors with all the various components of
the mise en scène and then by the traditions of all the various elements being assembled into an
organic whole (Kawatake 1990, 247).
Kata 型 in Kabuki performance means forms, or specific acting and dramatic techniques done by the
understanding of the work and its roles. Although arguable, the kata may be used to refer to all aspects
of a production and may be divided into three categories: role type kata, movement kata, and
appearance kata.
Almost every scholar would agree that role type kata such as aragoto 荒事, wagoto 和事 and onnagata
女形, and movement kata such as mie 見得 (striking an attitude), dammari暗闘 (silent scene) and
roppō 六方 (dramatic exit accompanied by exaggerated gestures) all belong to kata. However, some
may argue defining appearance such as makeup, costumes, and props as kata of Kabuki performance.
One of the scholars who do not consider makeup used in Kabuki as kata, Kawatake Toshio, defines
kata as the pattern formed. Toshio defines kata fixed forms as the forms that have been refined over
hundreds of years. He further narrows his definition as to what kata is by stating that kata results when
there is a form in spatial terms correlated to a specific amount of time (Kawatake 1971, 250). From his
definition of kata, two elements can be defined to be satisfied

Labor Unions Today Labor unions today Today most labor unions in the United States are members of one of two larger umbrella organizations: the American Federation of Labor Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL CIO) or the Change to Win Federation, which split from the AFL CIO in 2005. Both organizations advocate policies and legislation favorable to workers in the United States and Canada, and take an active role in Democratic party politics. The AFL CIO is especially concerned with global trade issues. Private sector union members are tightly regulated by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), passed in 1935. (sagepub.com). There are many causes and consequences of malnutrition. Since malnutrition is affecting a large population of children in India, it is important to find solutions. Maternal characteristics are a reason why children are malnourished. A study found that the prevalence s of stunting, wasting and underweight were greater for children of illiterate mothers, and lowest among children of mothers with an education of high school or more. Also, when mother s consume tobacco and alcohol, the child has a greater risk of being malnourished ( S. Rajarm, Lisa K. Zottarelli and T.S Sunil). Malnutrition starts even when a baby is not even born. Undernourished mothers give birth to underweight babies, which affects the future physical and mental well being of the child. • 11. Comparison Of Donatello David Part One The Donatello David is depicted more as a young boy wearing a hat and holding a sword into the head of Goliath. He is nude in this depiction and he shown with long hair. The sculpture looks as though it is standing still. Currently the David completed by Donatello is located in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence. The sculpture was completed in 1440 and is purely bronze which is shown in its dull shininess. The David stands 5 and 2 ¼ tall. The Bernini David is a more developed man with shorter hair. He shows more of a muscular build while he is preparing to use his slingshot to defeat Goliath as he is twisting his waist and arms as to preparing to swing his happen with great force. This sculpture shows great movement in its detail and this is known as dynamic action. This David is located in Galleria Borghese, Rome. The sculpture is marble as seen it is pale color and lack of shininess shows it lacks the characteristics of it were a bronze statue. Bernini completed this David in 1623 with the dimensions of 5 7 in height. Part Two Compare and Contrast: Donatello used his skill to depict David as a still figure in the defeat of Goliath. The sword is stabbed in the head of goliath and the sculpture shows some patina as it was done in 1440 and bronze does show rust over time which shows the coloration of green on the statue. The statue looks almost as it is posing for its viewers showing that the little guy can beat the big guy as shown by this statue in Florence as it pertains to them as a city against other larger Italian cities. The posture that this David shows is contrapposto in just standing in the moment. Bernini designed his David to appear as it was theatrical and expansive. The so called flexibility of the sculpture is using dynamic action. The life like adult male that Bernini sculpted is in the very instant of combat as he is readying his slingshot with a twist of his waist and arm. This differs from the David of Donatello in that Donatello s is after the battle had taken place and shows David as victorious. Both David s are similar in the fact that neither is wearing armor during or after the battle. Although Bernini s David has armor at his feet but chooses not to use it as ... It is also found in Nietzsche s classic work Thus Spoke Zarathustra, which is most responsible for popularizing the phrase. The idea is stated in The Madman as follows: Although the statement and its meaning is attributed to Nietzsche it is important to note that this was not a unique position as Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel pondered the death of God, first in his Phenomenology of Spirit where he considers the death of God to not seen as anything but an easily recognized part of the usual Christian cycle of redemption . • 17. Feminism In The Color Purple By Alice Walker Recipient of the Pulitzer Prize and National Book award winner, Alice Walker is the author of The Color Purple. The Color Purple has been labeled as a critically acclaimed novel. This is because Walker has no filter discussing topics such as: race, sexism, and systematic oppression. This novel takes place in rural South Georgia and spoken through the eyes of a young African American girl who becomes a grown woman between 1910 to 1940. This detail is important because for people of color, things were restricted and clearly difficult. It is even worse for women of color because not only were they the minority but also a woman. Women are expected to abide by all rules with no hesitations, and submit to all orders from the man of the house. This is the case in The Color Purple. For example, Celie grows up with the mindset of that she must follow the rules of her step father and husband s rules. This may lead them to stop their verbal, emotional, physical, and mental abuse. Unfortunately, it will take greater heights for them to leave Celie alone. With Feminism comes the development of character. Celie, the main character, grows into a woman who not only believes in fair treatment amongst all but the idea itself developed through her growth. Self development is the mental, physical, and emotion elevation over time due to experiences that develop perspectives. To continue, the novel takes on the theme of feminism. Representation of Indigenous Cultures Since the European settlement of Australia, the Indigenous people have been represented in a myriad of ways. The Rabbits (1998), an allegorical picture book by John Marsden (writer) and Shaun Tan (illustrator) and Rabbit Proof Fence (2002), a film directed by Phillip Noyce, are just two examples of this. Techniques such as music, changing camera angles and symbolism are utilised in Rabbit Proof Fence to represent the Aboriginal people as strong willed and spiritual and in The Rabbits, exaggeration, different colour themes and perspective are used to portray the Aborigines as technologically inferior and overwhelmed against the Europeans. This eagle, as explained by Molly s mother in opening scene, was a symbol of protection and safety in Aboriginal culture. The appearance of this eagle in their time of need emphasises how the Aboriginals are truly bonded, psychologically and physically, to their land and culture. In this scene, the camera shifts back and forth between their elders back at Jigalong and the girls in the desert. This constant transition conveys the relationship between the girls (protected by the eagle) and the elders praying in an Aboriginal dialect for the girl s safety. With these few examples, we can see how the Indigenous people have a special bond with their land through their cultural religion, which, in return, assists them when it is needed. Powerlessness of the Numbats (Aboriginals) against the Rabbits (Europeans) in The Rabbits is shown through the use of words within the mise en scene. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Data collected over a period of two weeks indicates that sodium chloride prohibits Ankistrodesmus growth since optical density measurements of each test tube were recorded in a table as well as graph (Figures 1 and 2). The data shown in this table and graph show that although the Ankistrodesmus algae grew slightly at some points, overall it decreased in optical density, which means sodium chloride prevented its growth. This conclusion can also be drawn from the average net gain/losses of optical densities table and graph. The data collected indicates that the Ankistrodesmus grew more in the 50% sodium chloride solution, which was treatment group 3 (Figure 4). However, this cannot be acknowledged since Day 14 s test tube readings were taken using another group s setup. Consequently, only readings from Day 0 and Day 7 are accurate and usable. Even though treatment group 3 s data is unreliable it s only one result and accounting this group still leaves treatment groups 1 and 2. By comparing treatment groups 1 and 2 to the control group one can easily conclude that the optical densities of the two treatment groups decrease (Figures 3 and 4). This indicates that as the concentrations of sodium chloride increases then the overall growth of algae decreases. In this essay, I intend to argue that the patriarchal ideology of women and girls as sexual property of the adult male serves as a means for the oppression of Lolita throughout the novel. The ideology that women and girls are property is linked to capitalism as an ideology that reduces young girls bodies to commodities that are intended for use and consumption. • 30. Silence In The Play Trifles The play Trifles takes place during 1957 when women were silenced; they were only addressed and not spoken to or able to speak. They were not able to vote or partake in any dominant activities. Nevertheless, we see both females, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale, form a silent sisterly bond while unintentionally uncovering motives for Mr. Wrights murder. The women were not given permission to help with the crime, while gathering items which Mrs. Wright had requested but they did it with natural senses due to activities they take on within the household as well. Therefore silence is firstly seen in the play when Mrs. Wright says She would wear pretty clothes and be lively, when she was Minnie Foster, one of the town girls singing in the choir (Glaspell) says Mrs. Hale, but that was thirty years ago before she married Mr. Wright and all her liveliness left her. When she moved in with Mr. Wright, they lived down in a hollow and you don t see the road (Glaspell) this suggest that she lived far from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hale is also silent by slipping the box under quilt pieces and adding more quilt pieces over the bird to hide evidence. She becomes silenced because she knows what being a farm wife does and how much work is put into it. She also feels horrible for never visiting for over a year and sympathizes quickly and feels the need to be silent in protecting Mrs. Wright. Nevertheless Mr. Wright and the canary are seen as most silenced in the play. Mr. Wright wrung the neck of the canary and that caused Mrs. Wright to snap, because then she strangles her husband. He had killed the only thing that gave her joy while living in silence. Mr. Wright is also seen as a silent man because he didn t want to place a telephone line in the house that Mr. Hale had suggested. Both deaths were the biggest silencers of the play. Just as the bird was lived in a cage and was silenced so did Minnie Foster. Disconnecting from the people and becoming silent made her home the bird cage and she the ... • 32. The Effects Of Pesticides On The Coffee Industry On Coffee Coffea commonly known as a coffee plant is the member of the Rubiaceae family (USDA 2015). While there are various species of the coffee plant, Coffee Arabica and Coffee Canephora are mostly grown. However, between them Coffee Arabica is considered to have greater quality and flavor. With the increase in demand of coffee within coffee drinkers globally, coffee has successfully ensured its place to become the world s second largest commodity. Brazil is known as the top manufacturer of coffee followed by countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Colombia, and Ethiopia (USDA 2014). The rising demand for coffee has augmented the dependence of the coffee industry on countries that grows coffee. Using pesticides on coffee fields seemed to be an ultimate solution for farmers who were hoping for maximum productivity of coffee. Pesticides are used in agriculture in order to protect plants from fungal diseases, pests, insects that affect the growth of food crops. On the short run, using pesticides has an advantage as it increases the production and the quality of coffee. However, pesticide practices have negative issues on the environment, the quality and the amount of coffee manufactured, and the health of the coffee drinkers and the farmers in the long run. The agricultural practice that involves the usage of pesticides has contributed in the exploitation of the environment. The consumption of pesticides in countries that grows coffee has increased rapidly over the decades. For example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Developmental Theories Of Childhood Each developmental theory has many differences but they share common ground in areas such as lacking the capacity of being indepdent alongside taking on responsibilities. Becoming psychologically, emotionally, dependant and vulnerable together with being needy for new oppportunies and experiences which if not provided will undermine proper development for the child (Stainton Rogers, 2009). In the findings childhood is viewed as a voyage towards adulthood, being criticised for representing children as incompetent with attention on experiences which have been viewed as insignificant such as the importance of play (Smith, 2013). • 34. A Family Of Transcription Factors Introduction 1. The Grainyhead (Grh) gene family Grainyhead (Grh) genes are conserved in metazoans. They encode a family of transcription factors with a unique, unusually large, DNA binding and dimerization domain, and an isoleucine rich activation domain(Attardi and Tjian, 1993; Gustavsson et al., 2008; Moussian and Uv, 2005; Ting et al., 2003b; Uv et al., 1994; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). Grh factors were first identified in Drosophila (Bray et al., 1989; Bray and Kafatos, 1991; Dynlacht et al., 1989; Johnson et al., 1989) and since then, they were also found in animals as diverse as nematodes and humans. Grh proteins have not yet been detected in unicellular organisms. Phylogenetic analysis subdivides this gene family into two main classes, the Grh like sub family and the CP2 sub family, depending whether the family members are more related to the Drosophila grh, or to another Drosophila gene, CP2 (Ting et al., 2003b; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). The fly and worm genomes each contain a single grh gene. Mammals, both mice and humans, have evolved three Grh homologues: Grh like 1 (Grhl 1, or Mammalian Grainyhead (MGR)/TFCP2L2), Grhl 2 (Brother of MGR (BOM)/TFCP2L3) and Grhl 3 (Sister of MGR (SOM)/ TFCP2L4). This group of genes encodes proteins with highly homologous DNA binding and dimerization domains. They all show restricted expression pattern during embryogenesis and play important roles in organogenesis and epidermal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Protista Essay Protista are simple eukaryotic organisms where the DNA is enclosed in a nucleus inside the cell. Protists are not animals, plants or fungi. Protists can be classified in to four general subgroups, the plantlike algae, animal like protozoans, fungus like slime molds and water molds. Protozoa are mostly the predators and parasites, for example, Amoeba sp. and Paramecium sp.. They live in water and moist terrestrial habitats. From all the microbes, viruses are the simplest and tiniest, just a ball of genes wrapped in a shell, about a millionth of an inch across. Application of microbe in industry/industries with examples Microbes usually applied in agriculture industry because expert find out that microorganism found in the soil can help to improve agricultural productivity. For example, microbes like Agrobacterium tumefaciens are used in plants and this will cause the plants to be genetic engineered so that they become more resistant to certain pests, herbicides and diseases. Furthermore, microbe like Bacillus thuringensis is used in plant too in order to supply protein that is lethal to insects when they consume it. This can reduce the use of chemical insecticides and become more eco friendly to the environment. Furthermore, microbes are key component in food industry. Fermentation processes can be carried out by using the microbes like lactic acid, yeast, moulds and bacteria to make food products like beer, bread, yoghurt and cheese. For example, the bacterium Lactobacillus acidophilus is used to produce yogurt. Besides, bacterial acetic acid fermentation can produce vinegars. • 36. Kabuki Theater and Performances In Kabuki theatre, everything that is seen on the stage is the result of a meaningful inner dynamic which completes the performance by the coordination of the actors with all the various components of the mise en scène and then by the traditions of all the various elements being assembled into an organic whole (Kawatake 1990, 247). Kata 型 in Kabuki performance means forms, or specific acting and dramatic techniques done by the understanding of the work and its roles. Although arguable, the kata may be used to refer to all aspects of a production and may be divided into three categories: role type kata, movement kata, and appearance kata. Almost every scholar would agree that role type kata such as aragoto 荒事, wagoto 和事 and onnagata 女形, and movement kata such as mie 見得 (striking an attitude), dammari暗闘 (silent scene) and roppō 六方 (dramatic exit accompanied by exaggerated gestures) all belong to kata. However, some may argue defining appearance such as makeup, costumes, and props as kata of Kabuki performance. One of the scholars who do not consider makeup used in Kabuki as kata, Kawatake Toshio, defines kata as the pattern formed. Toshio defines kata fixed forms as the forms that have been refined over hundreds of years. He further narrows his definition as to what kata is by stating that kata results when there is a form in spatial terms correlated to a specific amount of time (Kawatake 1971, 250). From his definition of kata, two elements can be defined to be satisfied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
