The Discovery, Structure, Metabolic Processes, Regulation...
ABSTRACT
Upon discovery of photosynthesis and the pathways that the molecules took during this process,
chloroplasts were soon uncovered. Scientists have taken a keen interest in chloroplasts since their
discovery. This review article will explore the discovery, structure, metabolic processes, regulation
and the genome of the chloroplast. Chloroplast are not only vital in providing food for plant life,
they are essential regulating and producing molecules for the cell. Once thought to function on their
own chloroplast have their own DNA and many unique characterizes. While much has been
discovered about the chloroplast there are still many unanswered questions and useful applications
for these tiny organelles. INTRODUCTION
Chloroplasts are very interesting organelles, thought to have once been independently functioning
cells. It is believed that they were once cyanobacteria floating around in the primordial soup. These
bacteria underwent respiration on their own in the absence of molecular oxygen until the ozone
layer was formed and oxygen gas could exist on earth. Once this occurred, eukaryotic organisms
started to flourish and they engulfed the bacteria. Once the bacteria were engulfed these prokaryotic
organisms over time with evolution became what we now know today as the chloroplast.
Chloroplast today are organelles within cells that have double membranes. They function in the
plant to not only capture light from the sun and turn it into carbohydrates for the plant

The Big Time College Sports
In this era of big time college sports, it seems the main focus of Division I athletics evolves
around the money that schools and conferences make through different deals. These deals
typically involve television rights for individual conferences with major television networks.
Currently the NCAA has a 14 year, $11 billion TV deal with CBS and Turner Broadcasting for
the NCAA basketball Tournament, and this upcoming year ESPN will pay around $470 million to
broadcast the new college football playoffs. The majority of this money is streamed to a teams
athletic departments via their respective conference. The largest percentage of this money goes to
teams that perform well on the field and on the court. Therefore the size of a school s... Show more

Followed closely behind is the ACC at $240 million, the Big 12 at $220 million, and lastly the
SEC at $205 million (the SEC Network that launched this past August should eventually launch the
conference to the top of this list) (Smith). Each conference s deal differs, so I will look at each
individually conference. The first and most profitable one is the Big Ten.
Big Ten
The Big Ten is known as the conference where the money is. Year in and year out the Big Ten
has the highest revenues. This can be credited to the prospering Big Ten Network. The Big Ten
the first major conference with their own network, most major conferences have now established
a conference affiliated network. The conference s revenues are expected to grow annually, and 12
of 14 Big Ten schools are expected to gain $44.5 million during the 2017 18 year, the first year of a
new television deal (the two schools that are not projecting these numbers are Maryland and
Rutgers which just officially joined the conference this past summer and can not receive their
full share until 2020 21). Along with their Big Ten network deal, the conference also has a 10
year TV rights deal with ESPN worth close to $1 billion that will be expiring in 2016 2017. While
negotiations have begun to renew this contract, it is likely that Fox will become a

The American Declaration Of Independence
Although Americas often preach that we aim to constantly uphold the founding principles of this
country, our government has denied citizens an essential entitlement by refusing to grant accessible
health care for all people. The American Declaration of Independence famously states We hold
these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with
certain unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The right to pursue
life has been denied to the American people for decades now because there is no organized option
for assistance in maintaining proper health. Hypocritical American leaders continue to praise our
unique freedoms while they sit idly by as countless citizens... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Prominent life insurance companies prepared to capture the private health care market and target
it towards all of their consumers as well as growing families and other groups (Budrys 72). These
companies seized the growing opportunity to cover Americans everywhere and by 1950 almost half
the American population had hospital insurance, compared to less than ten percent just a decade
before (Stevens 259). These private companies functioned as for profit businesses in order to earn
money for elite company employees, unlike the scarce options, which preceded their plans that
sought to improve their companies with acquired profits.
Once health care became a prevalent issue for Americans and their employer s elite lobbyists began
emerging in the rising market. The American Medical Association, founded in 1847, became the
largest organized group of physicians in America (Palmer, Karen). Members of the AMA were often
encouraged to avoid Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) programs, which emerged
throughout the 1930s, eventually going so far as to incentivizing their physicians to resist any form
of national health insurance. Later, their effort to end socialized medicine evolved in 1945 to the
biggest lobbyist movement of its time. At $1.5 million this action lead to a national movement of
private companies attacking the political world with their money and power in an effort to
manipulate the American government and change the way Americans thought about and funded

Climate Change No Hiding Place Analysis
Climate change, global warming, greenhouse effect even if you only watch the news periodically,
these are phrases that you have most likely become aware of. In short, climate change is the change
global and regional patterns regarding climate; this is due to possible changes in the Earth s axis,
human activity modifying the composition of the atmosphere, or geographical activity such as
volcanic eruptions [1]. Many have speculated and argued whether climatechange actually exists.
Regardless of your opinion, a staggering amount of scientists have accepted climate changeas a
reality. In fact, the much admired astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson claims that individuals
denying scientific facts is the beginning of the end of an informed democracy [2]. The article
Climate Change: No Hiding Place supports Neil deGrasse Tyson s notion stating those who doubt
that greenhouse gases are quite the problem they have been cracked up to be by most of the world
s climatologists [3]. While it may be difficult to see climate change presently, there are many
indicators of its existence with the higher temperatures and acidity levels in the ocean, the melting
of Arctic ice caps,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

change is irrelevant. Though fluctuations are normal, researchers have found that its middle
depths have warmed 15 times faster in the last 60 years than they did during apparent natural
warming cycles in the previous [5]; this is warmth does not show up on meteorologists
thermometers since it is so deep in the ocean [3]. The acidity level is also noticeably higher.
Since the start of fossil use levels in the oceans have been 25 30% higher [6]. These factors also

Narrative Discourse Performance Analysis
The current study aims to evaluate the differences in the narrative discourse performance in elderly
individuals with acquired cognitive disorders and narrative performance on different narrative
types. Previous studies evaluated individuals with an acquired cognitive disorder, but no previous
research could be found that compared the narrativeperformance of individuals with different types
of cognitive disorders. Also, little research exists on the narrative discourse performance in
individuals with cognitive disorders on different narrative types. However, the literature indicates
that individuals with cognitive disorders, such as stoke, TBI, or Alzheimer s disease, have deficits
in narrative production when compared to normally aging individuals.... Show more content on

The narratives were evaluated on 3 main categories of cohesive ties: reference, or words that
refer to a person or an object mentioned earlier, comparatives, or words that compare two or more
people or objects, lexical cohesion, and conjunctions, or words that create a causal or sequential
relation between two sentences or ideas (Langer Smith Burke, 1982). Only cohesive ties in which
the referent of the tie is easily identified. Ambiguous or erroneous cohesive ties were not counted as
a complete cohesive tie. The total number of cohesive ties was totaled for each narrative.
Narrative Relevance Narrative relevance was determined by evaluating the importance of each T
Unit in developing the narrative. A 3 point rating system was used to determine the relevance of
each statement. An utterance was given a 1 rating if the utterance was relevant and necessary to
the story development. A 2 rating was given if the utterance was related to the story and did not
help or hinder the development of the story. Finally, a rating of 3 was given to the utterances that
were irrelevant to the story and hindered the development of the story. The occurrence of each
rating was totaled for each narrative.

Religious Metaphors In The Story Of Langston s Salvation
Salvation means for most people that this is when their perception changes in life and about life.
Salvation is when someone comes to a certain realization that things around them are changing,
and the way they once looked at life is now different. Salvation relates to the story of a young
individual in this story name Langton that was saved from his own innocence. Langston was a
twelve year old who majority of his time in the church with his aunt. As he grew up he saw the
many changes of people and faces the church. Langston was starting to lose faith. He did not
know if he should believe there was a Jesus. Langston gave up hope on Jesus when he was lost
and confused, and he felt there was no one there to help him in his time of need. Hughes faced
some challenging experiences and this demonstrated to him how adults may confuse children,
especially when adults don t take the time to explain the religious metaphors children are trying to
understand. Langston s, Auntie Reed is primarily responsible for his loss of faith at an early age.
Langston s aunt should of taken the time explaining to Langston that Jesus words were as they
appear in The Sermon on the Mount serve as a useful guide for living one s life, she told him that
when you were saved you saw a light, and something happened to your insides! At that point when
Langston heard those words he was more confused than before. Langston wanted to make sense of
the information his Auntie Reed was sharing with him but he

Piracy In The Music Industry
There are $12.5 billion in economic losses each year due to Piracy in the music industry. This
shows how people are not taking piracy seriously and treating it not as a crime. Piracy is a crime
and people should be able to use it against people in their cases. Based on the evidence in this
article, companies involved in legal action should use emotionally charged language such as
piracy to win their cases because if they seem to be copying an artist s piece without permission and
selling it for free, it is piracy and piracy is a crimethat they can use. The person who made their
work must have spent a lot of time on it so they would be able to accuse it s as piracy if someone

The Importance Of The House Of Lords Considering Its...
Introduction:
Having a unicameral UK government has always been a consideration. However, attempts to
reform it or remove it, has become a controversial topic. Some critics believe that the removal of a
bicameral government will be expensive, give the government too much power and reduce
representation. Others consider the abolition of it to be more democratic and cheaper as it takes
less time. This essay will discuss the requirement of the House of Lords considering its benefits and
harms. It will also acknowledge its impacts on Westminster and Scottish Parliament, the power of
the parliament and the legislative process of constitutional reform.
(i)relative functions of Second Chamber in the UK Parliament and unicameral Scotland
The UK Parliament is bicameral. It has two separate chambers; the House of Lords (upper
house) and the House of Commons (lower house). The House of Lords is an unelected chamber
totaling up to 790 members. Life peers are the majority members . It shares the same functions as
the House of Commons. Criticized due to similarities. Each house has five stages in the pre
legislative process. Both review and amend proposed legislature and challenging the government.
The House of Lords powers only goes so far regarding amending bills. The house has no authority
to amend government enactments relating to finance. It was introduced by the Parliament Act 1911
after wealthy members refused to pass the People s Budget which would raise their taxes .

The Nuns Priest s Tale
The Nun s Priest s Tale is an allegory that uses animals with human characteristics in order to
portray the moral of the story. The story centers on a rooster named Chanticleer, who possesses
many human qualities, such as speaking, singing, and the ability to dream. Partlet, a hen, is
described as polite, discreet, debonair, and companionable (153). These are characteristics not
typically associated with animals, which strengthens the message that the animals are representative
of humans. Furthermore, Chanticleer and the other animals display humanemotions, such as
Chanticleer s fear of his dream, Partlet s disgust of Chanticleer s fear, and the love that Chanticleer
and Partlet feel for one another. Furthermore, the fox, Sir Russell, also... Show more content on

This moral is illustrated by the events of the tale; Sir Russell flatters Chanticleer by
complimenting his singing, and he tells him to sing with his eyes closed. Chanticleer is very
flattered by this and does what Sir Russell says, allowing Sir Russell to grab Chanticleer and
bring him to the woods. After Chanticleer escapes, Sir Russell tries to trick him once more, but
Chanticleer has learned his lesson, stating I will curse myself . . . if you trick me once more.
Never again shall you with your flattery get me to sing with my eyes closed, (164). Chanticleer
singing with his eyes closed is representative of the ways in which humans can be fooled and
deceived when faced with flattery. The moral of the tale is reinforced by these events, again
demonstrating how the story of the animals is representative of human nature. Moreover, within the
main story, there is a discussion of other stories, including different perspectives on the importance
of dreams. Though Partlet believes that there is nothing but vanity in dreams (154), Chanticleer
explains how this is untrue, and in the process, he discusses two other stories he knows that
reinforce his belief that dreams are significant of joy as well as of trouble (156). The inclusion of
these stories reaffirms the depiction of the animals as having human qualities, as Chanticleer and
Partlet discuss the importance of dreams in an intellectual style. This also reinforces the tale as
more than just a story about animals, but rather an important tale about human

The Social Security Program
The Social Security program has benefitted many Americans since its inception in 1935. However,
Social Security faces many challenges. This paper will provide a general overview of the Social
Security program, highlight concerns with the current system and outline some methods to reform
Social Security. Some may argue the program will continue to provide uninterrupted benefits for the
foreseeable future with no issues. However, Social Securityreform is essential to ensure the program
will continue to benefit Americans and not create a financial burden on future generations.
Social security initially provided benefits for a more narrow scope than it does today. It was
designed to benefit the elderly, unemployed and widows with children.

Put simply there aren t enough people paying into the program compared with the number of
people being paid by the program. This ratio problem has many contributing factors and includes
more and more baby boomers retiring, longer average life spans, and a lower fertility rate in the
United States. According to Mueller,
One of the reasons for Social Security s continuing deficits is the influx of retirees, which is putting
a strain on an already strained system. Every month,
Maxim 3
250,000 more baby boomers turn 65, with many dropping out of the workforce. In
2010, 10 percent of boomers were retired; in 2014, that number had jumped to
17 percent. (Mueller, 2)
This influx is moving the contributor to beneficiary ratio in the wrong direction. As far as longer
lifespans, if Americans are living longer but the average retirement age is not moved higher than
obviously they will spend more time collecting benefits and further push the program into debt.
This argument is also supported by The Challenge of
Democracy
When the program began, it had many contributors and few beneficiaries...nine workers supported
each beneficiary. As the program matured and more

How Did Ww2 Affect Canada
The Second World War was the largest and most violent war to date. With an estimated 50 80

in human history. WWII was a turning point for Canada and its role in International conflict.
Canada proved itself a strong force in battle, and put on a unified front along with the other Allied

World War Two was the first time that Canada was able to decide as a country whether or not to

WWII and supplied many men with jobs following the Great Depression. Women also played a

Steven Spielberg s Jaws And Jurassic Park
Steven Spielberg is a director who has made many movies including Jaws (1975) and Jurassic Park
(1993). Both Jaws and Jurassic Park show animals behaving in the way that nature intended them to
behave. However, in Jaws the animal finds himself trapped in an unnatural environment, an inlet
where humans swim. In Jurassic Park, animals that became extinct millions of years ago, dinosaurs,
also find themselves in unnatural environment occupied by humans. I want to compare these two
movies because I enjoy action movies and thrillers. Also they were both made before I was born
and I have only seen them now for the first time. Both movies hold the audience attention from the
very beginning and you feel yourself going through the emotions that the actors display. Steven
Spielberguses nature in both films as his theme to develop his story. In Jawsthere is a great white
shark that terrorizes a small island town and in Jurassic Park there are manufactured dinosaurs that
are developed out of altered DNA that terrorize an island that was to be a theme park.
In Jaws there is a large white shark who seems to be unstoppable. The movie begins with an
unsuspecting girl swimming when the shark comes up on her and kills her. From the moment the
movie begins the viewer knows who the villain is. The cast consists of Roy Schneider as Chief
Brody who struggles throughout the movie to do the right thing to save lives while the politicians

Enzyme And The Enzyme Of Enzyme Essay
Introduction:
An enzyme is a macromolecule that works as a catalyst and speeds up chemical reactions through a
substrate that binds to the active site of the enzyme. When this process occurs, the enzyme lowers
the activation energy needed. This allows the reactant molecules to reach a state where they can
complete a reaction in most temperatures. The enzyme is not consumed when a chemical reaction
is taking place, however, it s shape changes in order to create a proper space for a substrate to
bind to. Since the enzyme is not consumed in the process of reactions, it can begin to lower the
activating energy of another process as soon as the first process is complete and it has returned to
its original shape. Without the assistance of enzymes, the pathways of metabolism in humans
would be obstructed because every process would take so long (Smith et., 2015).For every
reaction completed, a different, specific enzyme is utilized. Therefore, each location of each
enzyme in the cell is very specific. The speed of the enzyme that is being utilized is dependent on
factors that are found in the environment, for example, pH, temperature and the specific chemical
reaction that will be occurring. The rate that a catalyst can be most beneficial with regard to
temperature is directly proportional to the increase in temperature until the optimal temperature is
reached. However, after the optimal temperature is reached, if the temperature continues to be
increased, the rate of the

Disadvantages Of Neonicotinoids
Knock Off Inorganic Pesticides to Coconut Trees The Philippines is now facing a serious industry
problem regarding the infestation of coconut scale insects, commonly known as cocolisap, to large

causing the low productivity of the plant. Cosico (2014) stated that, At least 60 percent of the total
coconut farming areas in the country, most of which are in the CALABARZON area, are infected
with cocolisap and it has crossed over to Basilan in Mindanao Region. Due to this, the government

Essay on Relationships between Asthma and Air Pollution
Relationships between Asthma and Air Pollution
Professor s comment: This student s research paper synthesizes the results of a well selected group
of articles that explore relationships between asthma and air pollution. That laboratory science is at
base a social enterprise is nicely exemplified by the focus of the studies she reviews. In drawing
from the articles she reviews and in organizing her paper, the student maintains a good balance
between discussing air borne pollutants themselves and their physical effects, between analysis and
implication. The result is a readable and interesting explanation of current work on this increasingly
important subject.

In order to reset EPA air quality standards and to determine which therapeutic actions can be applied
to patients to prevent deterioration of their asthma conditions (Neukirch et al., 1998), researchers
have found it increasingly necessary to discover the relationships between asthma symptoms and
episodes of air pollution and to identify the pollutants that are responsible for the rise in the number
of people seeking respiratory medical treatment.
Pollutants of Concern
Epidemiologic studies have determined that the following are the major air pollutants
contributing to respiratory diseases: sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3),
and particulate matter (PM) less than 10 mm and less than 2. 5 mm in diameter (PM10 and
PM2.5, respectively) (Baldi et al., 1999; Chew et al., 1999; McConnell et al., 1999; McDonnell
et al., 1999; Neukirch et al., 1998; Ostro et al., 1998; Sheppard et al., 1999; Taggart et al., 1996).
Particulate matter is the product of solid and liquid particles being directly emitted into the air from
such things as diesel engine soot, road and agricultural dust, and manufacturing processes, while
SO2, NO2, and O3, are predominately byproducts of fuel combustion.
In controlled studies of the inhalation of either SO2 or O3, subjects with asthma have been shown
to be especially sensitive to these pollutants, with decrements in pulmonary function, increases in
asthmatic bronchial hyperresponsiveness,

her decision or at least wait until the morning to say goodbye to their son. After her death, the
man and the boy pack up their camp, and the boy only says, She s gone, isn t she? (McCarthy
50). This sequence of events reveals the mother s very dark nature because instead of being
there for her son, like a devoted parent, she chooses to leave this world out of pure fear of the
post apocalyptic event. She even goes so far as to question the existence of her husband and
newborn; yet she does not even do a small good deed as to tell her son goodbye. Instead, she
chooses to burden her husband to be the sole proprietor for their son; thus revealing her animalistic
nature. In addition, in preparation for the catastrophe, the dark nature of the boy s father is also
evident through his decision to buy a gun in anticipation of the worst possible scenario. Contrary to
popular belief, he does

His painting Souvenir 1 creates a sort of memorial with historical figures such as JFK and MLK
on the walls of an old but fancy house. The house appears as a historically white person type
home that slaves and black people would typically serve in. The room painted in the picture as a
light energy to it with the use of white and light colors contrasted by the black subject with gold
glitter wings. The gold glitter wings symbolize the freedom blacks earned because of the death of
the historical figures represented in the figures subtly. Because of the historical figures in the
painting, laws were passed and people were inspired. However, historically, just because laws were
passed and people were inspired, didn t mean automatic change, it didn t mean complete freedom.
That s what this painting represents, freedom at a grasp. The black people received their wings( the
laws, the courage, the platform) to fly due to the deaths of many represented and unrepresented
figures, but did they fly, can they fly? Another piece that stood out with its Adam and Eve type
mimicry is the painting Vignette. This picture depicts two relatively young fit black figures, a boy
and a girl running through an outside area with trees, naked with butterflies and birds surrounding
them, natural hair flying through the wind

My Nurse Monologue
I woke up that morning, the same as any other. Still in that blank old hospital room, the same
stiff hospital bed with the little red button to signal the nurse when I woke up or needed help. I

Menace II Society Essay
Menace II Society, a film about a young Black man who has lived the hustler lifestyle and is
struggling to leave it, is a perfect example of deviance as the main character, Caine Lawson, and
the characters around him violate many of society s norms. Throughout the film, the characters
swear incessantly, carry around guns and drugs as most people would carry around cell phones,
commit street crimes, especially burglary and mugging, on a regular basis, and beat and kill people
unscrupulously. The following quote captures just how deviant Caine and the other characters in
this film were, [Caine] went into the store just to get a beer. Came out an accessory to murder and

However, he sees his only option of obtaining signs of wealth, like a nice car, are via street crime.
Thus, Caine s deviance can be attributed to Strain Theory as well. Caine takes the deviant path
of an innovator in order to achieve cultural goals. For instance, he makes and sells drugs for
money and he mugs a man in order to get nice rims for his new car. Caine rarely shows any
intention of using institutionalized means of achieving cultural goals he claims he was never
fit for some boring job. However, it must also be considered that Caine was born into a family
that belonged to an urban slum and whose way of life had crime woven into it. Caine grew up
watching his father and his father s friends deal drugs while rarely working normal jobs. He
claimed that he even learned how to make drugs from his father. As a result, it becomes evident
that Caine had all the opportunity in the world to be turned on to the life of a hustler since it was
the same life his father led and that his friends would later live as well. In this way, Caine s life is
an ideal example of illegitimate opportunity theory since crime was fused into his way of life.
Growing up a young black man in an urban slum certainly did not deter Caine from deviating
either. He grew up with the stigma of a young Black man. This master status led Caine to believe
that other people, specifically non Blacks, always thought that young black men were always in
trouble. For example, when Caine

Frida Kahlo And The Mexican Community
Frida Kahlo once said At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.
There is no better person to say this than Kahlo, whose life was filled with pain and sadness. She
was one of the most influential artists of her time, especially in the Mexican community.. The most
important aspects of her life were her multicultural background, her tragic accident she survived as a
teen, her relationship with Diego Rivera, her death, and her face as a product.
Frida Kahlo was born Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y CalderГіn, July 6th, 1907, in Coyoacan,
Mexico. Her mother, Matilde Calderon y Gonzalez, was of indigenous and Spanish descent. Her
father, Wilhelm Kahlo, was German. The combinations of the two heritages gave Frida a rich
cultural background, which was a key part of her artwork. Kahlo developed polio at the young
age of 6, which left one of her legs thinner and weaker than the other one. It is also speculated
that she may have had spina bifida, which would also hinder the growth of her leg. Although she
suffered from these afflictions, her father encouraged her to be active and participate in sports,
such as swimming, wrestling and boxing. It would be September 17, 1925, that Kahlo s life
would be changed forever. It was a normal day, and Kahlo had been out shopping with her
boyfriend, Alex Gomez Arias. They decided to board a bus that would take them back home to
Coyoacan. A streetcar collided with the bus that the couple were on, and Kahlo was

Effects Of Social And Economic Groupings To Their Members
Global social and economic groupings have significant beneficial effects for their members.
Discuss the extent to which you agree with this statement (40)
It is beneficial to us when assessing said statement to begin by considering the main reasons for the
formation of social and economic groupings. First and foremost considering the 4 main types of
alliances. Between Free Trade Areas and Customs Unions it is fair to say that the main goal is to
restrict imports from non member countries, in turn allowing the economies of the member
countries to flourish and provide for themselves, amongst themselves, in terms of trade. Common
Markets on the other hand keep import tariffs in place, instead allowing the free movement of

This is feared to possibly lead towards cultural homogenisation, as member countries begin to lose
their identities certainly politically, as the EU becomes a supposed super state. While others will
argue that this social grouping allows for a more peaceful situation between all member countries,
this was especially true following World War 2; which in itself lead to the creation of the EU. As
well as arguing that the EU allows for more accessible travel, allowing European citizens to
discover different cultures and live in better harmony.
Another well know grouping is NAFTA, a free trade agreement created in 1994 between the
United States, Canada and Mexico. This created one of the largest free trade areas of the world.
Its success has been astounding boosting trade between the member countries from $306bn to
$930bn. However in more recent assessments it has been suggested that in the long haul it has
been more damaging than helpful for Mexico; as an LEDC at the time some suggest it may have
exploited. Suggestions are based on the assumptions that as a result of the NAFTA agreement
Mexico s rate of development has been hindered. The most basic measure of economic progress,
especially for a developing country like Mexico, is the growth of income (or GDP) per person. Out

Video Games Cause Violence?
In this age of technology, it s very safe to say that a large majority of the world s population has
played at least one video game. This can vary from playing games on console, like Xbox One,
Playstation 4, and for the older generation, the NES to playing mobile games like Tetris. There
are many consoles that span from the creation of video games. This has opened opportunities to
make several kind of games. These can vary from side scrollers like Super Mario Bros. on the NES,
to Role playing games (RPG) like Final Fantasy IX on the Playstation 1. While this has caused
some great games to surface, it has also allowed intense violence to be let into games. Parents and
anti gaming communities state that this is why kids can become violent. This is false, because
violent games can be avoided to prevent this issue, and the Entertainment Software Rating Board

Energy Commission Information ( Eia ) Essay
The United States is the largest economy in the world. According to the World Bank its GDP is
approximately 16.8 trillion as of 2013. As the U.S. grows in population, so does the demand of
goods. Is the country heading towards greater prosperity or towards a dismal hole? Is the United
States practicing weak or strong sustainabilityand should we be worried about running out of non
renewable resources?
We all know what non renewable resources are economic values that cannot be replaced within a
reasonable time frame. According to the U.S. energy commission Information (EIA) Administration
the United States consumed approximately 6.89 billion barrels of petroleum in 2013. Now, 6.89
billion barrels of petroleum may seem like an overwhelming amount of oil, but according to the
EIA we should have enough oil to meet demands for the next 25 years. The EIA predicts that the
demand for non renewable resources will be met for at least 25 more years, but what happens after
that? Some people would argue that the U.S. has been sustained up to this point in time however
others would say the contrary. So, first I would like to define my interpretation sustainability as,
being able to meet today s demand, without compromising tomorrows . Under this definition I
believe that the U.S. has been sustainable up to this point in time. Although non renewable
resources have been utilized, new discoveries are still happening.

Essay on Understanding the Sociology of Health
Health can be defined in three different ways; negatively, positively and holistically as well as
contextually, that will differ from person to person. The English word for health is derived from
the old English word hale meaning Wholeness and wellness , in this essay I will be exploring the
different definitions, views and models of health. The World Health organization defines health
as Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence
of disease or infirmity. Firstly the negative definition equates to the lack of any disease or body

food as well as healthy eating habits. This aspect empowers the individual to take responsibility
to take care of their own health such as caring for themselves through minor illnesses and
knowing when to seek professional medical attention. While the individual is empowered to take
these steps they may have little or no control of them if they suffer from an condition such as

The business environment is also changing so that many of the businesses are becoming
innovative with time. The world economy is concerned about the rise in global warming which
occurs as a result of the carbon IV oxide emission from the fossil fuel. So, it is right to say that
Mary T. Barra s effort to ensure that General Motors produce or manufacture motor vehicles that
are environment friendly and especially the solar vehicles is good for the overall growth of the
economy and is in line with the PESTEL strategic concept of a good business environment. The
strategic concept of providing a pollution free product is in line with the needs of the modern
economies where most of the innovations are going towards clean and renewable energy. There are
many reasons why the motor vehicle industry in the United States of America is going to continue
growing under the President Trump s administration. The first reason is that his political statement
supports local industries as he states clearly that it is an America First where the interests of the
United States companies and employees will be given first priority. Accordingly, this would end up
in creating a good working business environment that can be relied on in the long run. The political

Climate Change Is Caused By Human Activities
According to the new Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
(IPCC) 2013, in Southeast Asia, temperature has been increasing at a rate of 0.14 to 0.20 degree
Celsius per decade since the 1960s while rainfall from extreme rain days has increased by 10
millimeters per decade. Both of these increments are caused by climate change. In addition to
increase of temperature and extreme precipitations, climate change also increases landslides,
exacerbates soil erosion, causes flooding, and raises the sea level (Barnett et al. 2007). Previously,
climate change was believed to happen naturally. However, over the years, scientists have started to
argue that anthropogenic factors are the main contributor. Scientists have also been more confident
and forthright in informing the public that climate change is caused by human activities. The IPCC
Fifth Assessment Report mentions that human influence on the climate system is clear, and recent
anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases are the highest in history (2013). In addition, most
of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid 20th century is very likely
due to the observed increase in anthropogenic Green House Gas (GHG) concentrations (IPCC AR4
2007). In fact, there are many other anthropogenic impacts that cause climate change. In this paper,
I will discuss the impacts of climate change on wetlands, forestfires and tropical cyclones in
Southeast Asia, and the adaptations

Then finally, came the JAMESTEC multibeam profiler which surveys and utilized GPS

Pool Of Blood Short Story
Blood was everywhere. An enormous pool of thick blood disguised the cool gymnasium floor.
No one knew so much blood could escape from such tiny gums. Two dish towels soaked red, to
be exact. My mind was in a haze. Somewhere in that pool of blood lay my two front teeth. I was
just an innocent, curly haired little girl when God decided to throw an event at me that would
change my life forever. First grade, just a couple weeks after my permanent teethhad grown in.
Lunch was going as normal: we ate, cleaned, and played. We formed a line of competitive little
kids, ready to race our scooters. Small mats were stacked on top of them, for added comfort, I
suppose. Little did I know the disaster that would make an impact on my life forever, was only
seconds away. Luckily, my Aunt Suzanne and Uncle Chad were on lunch duty that day. About half
way through the race, the mat on my scooter slid off, catching the front wheels and making the
scooter tip forwards. From this point, the story becomes slightly unclear to me. I have memory of...

Until I went to the Shrine Bowl and witnessed the joy that kids still chose to have, despite their
situations, I perceived my situation as the worst. I realized within that week, that life could
always be worse. Those kids chose gratefulness over self pity, and happiness over sorrow. They
chose to embrace their disabilities and turn them into testimonies. Everyone deals with problems
that are difficult to cope with, and, sometimes, God deals you cards you would rather not play,
but I ve chosen to deal with these cards in the best way possible. My hope is after the final cut is
made, the final implant placed, I will look in the mirror at my smile, remembering that God is in
control of all

What Does Sally Green s Half Bad Mean
Summer Reading Assignment Written in present tense, Sally Green s Half Bad is a fast paced and
intriguing novel that illustrates the enigmas and irony of human nature. No matter a person s
identity, where they live, or what their role is in society, they are homogenous with the rest of
humanity because of an ability to be generous and care about others yet also be parsimonious and
hateful. Steven Pinker, a psychologist and author, stated Humannature is complex. Even if we do
have inclinations toward violence, we also have inclination to empathy, to cooperation, to self
control. The event that was most memorable for me was the protagonist s introduction to a
character named Celia in a chapter called The Choker. It was notable because Celia s

Borrelia Arthropod Vectors
There are four different strain of the Borrelia genus that is known to be found in arthropod
vectors. The Borrelia bacteria is a spirochete bacterium that is located in the gut of the infected
vector. Borrelia afzelii is commonly found in Asian and European countries, Borrelia garinii is
found throughout Europe, Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii are both strains that are seen
here in the United States. Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii are both found in the vector, a
deer tick, or Lxodes Scapularis. However, the strain Borrelia mayonii is found in the nymph stage
of the tick instead of the adult stage like the strain Borrelia burgdorferi.
Tick are not bugs, but they are small arachnids, that are part of the parasitiform. Ticks in these cases
are considered arthropod vectors which are an arachnid that can transmit the disease causing
organism from themselves to the host that they are feeding on. Ticks are external parasites, and
they live by feeding on the blood of a mammal, bird, reptiles, and amphibians. Tick pick up the
disease causing bacterium from a reservoir host that they are able to feed off. A reservoir host is a...

the cases only occur in fourteen states, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts,
Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont,
Virginia, and Wisconsin. There are also neighboring areas that infected ticks have become a
problem are those are Northern California, Oregon, and Washington

Diversity Can Create New Ideas
Diversity, in general, is important because it provides our society and culture with varying,
inimitable and stimulating perspectives. There seems to have a tendency to create groups and
various social strata and you find it everywhere around the world in various degree. Diversity
goes beyond recognizing that we are different in measurable ways. Diversity can create new
ideas and changes that can be beneficial to a society, or even the world. On a global scale,
diversity is fundamental to the development of new ideas, innovation and is a critical component
of being prosperous on an overall level. Just as one shoe does not fit all people, one personality

Claude Monet Haystacks
Claude Monet was a French artist of the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. He used very gestural
brush strokes in many of his painted, making them less realistic like any of the artist were doing
at the time. He was thought of as the father of Impressionism. Impressionism is taking a image out
of the realism skim and making it looked less real and instead more of a painting. This is done by
the long and large brush strokes in many of Monet s pieces, making them an Impression of an
image rather than going for a photographic look. The movement name actually came from
reviewers stating that the work was an impression of an image rather than its own piece of art.

This made it easy for Mondrian to make the pieces such like haystacks. The elements of the
movement are color, line, and value. In the painting Monet used very bright and dark colors, and
used large brushstroke lines as well. The value is seen in the darkness of the background and the
brightness of the green lilies. This is also seen in many of the other pieces of impressionism in this
time period.
Monet employs the principles of organization through scale, emphasis, contrast, and proportion. He
uses the close up scale of the haystack to show its emphasis in the piece. The contrast of the bright
sky on the darker haystack is very defined as well.
He used many elements of design in his piece as well. Line is a huge one; you can see the lines
from the shadows, the parallel lines of the tops of the haystacks, and the landscape horizontal
line as well. He also showed a ton of space since the haystacks are all on the left side, the right is
a huge open space in the painting. Form is also used in the piece, considering the haystacks look
3D to the human eye. The color and value work together to create the darkness of the haystacks
and shadows, and the light blue of the sky as well. Mass is the last element seen in this piece. The
haystacks seem so massive in the foreground compared to the horizon in the face background of the

Philip Augustus s Success Of The Angevin s Failure
Was Philip Augustus success linked to the Angevin s failure?
Philip Augustus undoubtedly faced weak Angevin opposition. However, it was the economic,
administrative and ideological changes that had taken place in Capetian France, which were the
real driving force behind Philip s success. John s comparative weakness and poor leadership
credentials made Capetian success even more likely, but did not make it inevitable. Philip had to
harness the French economy and win the support of his nobility. He was so successful in these
endeavors that he would have been a match for any 12th century European power.
The strength of the Capetian economy was one of the most important factors in Philip s success.
Philip personally was very interested in developing Paris. He built Les Halles as a market place,
paved many streets and invested heavily in infrastructure. The creation of a large market place
and better transportation meant that the economy picked up and Paris became wealthier. This
meant that Philip could call on Paris for financial support when he went on crusade. Assarting and
the creation of communes furthered strengthened Philip s economy. Between 1150 and 1180 the
forests of Othen and Orleans were cleared, and over 40 new villages created in their wake.1 As
Hallam pointed out, the king allowed these villages to be created and granted them special
privileges in exchange for rent being paid directly to the crown. This cut out the middle men (the
local nobility) and greatly

To Investigate the Rate of Reaction Between Calcium...
Aim: To investigate the rate of reaction between Calcium Carbonate and Hydrochloric Acid.
Just from looking at the aim of the investigation I already know that a salt would be formed
because a carbonate with an acid forms a salt. In this investigation the substance that is formed is
Calcium Chloride, Water and Carbon Dioxide. The symbol equation for this is:
CaCo3 #61664; Ca2+ + Co32
Hcl #61664; H+ + Cl
Add these all together to get
CaCO3(s) + 2H+(aq) Ca++(aq) + H2O + CO2(g)
The rate of reaction is just the speed at which the substances on the left side of equation turn into
the substances on the right side. The way we measured the rate of reaction today was measuring

the bee hive shelf; this will be under the water. On top of this will be a measuring tube that will be

of gas given off.

During this investigation I will wear goggles due to health and safety rules. I will also record my

Barbie s Effect on America Most American girls can remember growing up with the blonde,
plastic, fashionable doll called Barbie. The first item to pop into people s heads, as they think of
the perfect Christmas or Hanukkah present is the Barbie doll. When it comes to racial acceptance
and body image, the doll is misleading. The Barbie doll taught children that blonde and white was
the ultimate key to beauty or fashion. This Barbie doll set unrealistic standards for girls of all
ages; with her curvy frame, perfect boyfriend, and her extravagant belongings she led girls to
believe that self image is more important than frivolous objects.

The Effects of Alcohol and Caffeine on the Heartbeat Rate in Daphnia Magnus
Abstract
The projects purpose was to determine the effects of alcohol and caffeine on the heartbeat rate in
Daphnia Magnus. Our hypothesis is alcohol causes a decrease in heart rate, whereas caffeine causes
an accelerated heart rate, predicting that the more caffeine we give the daphnia the faster it
heartbeat rate will become and the heartbeat rate will decrease as we give the Daphnia alcohol.
After doing the experiment we found that the more caffeine we added to the Daphnia Magna the
faster its heartbeat rate became. We also found that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We Placed 1 drop of a 1% caffeine solution on the Daphnia. After waiting for a few seconds we
began to count the heart beats and recorded the results on our data sheet.
Next we removed the excess solution from the Daphnia and flushed it with aquarium water. Using
the same procedure we monitored the effects of 1 1/2% and 2.0% caffeine solutions and recorded
our results and placed the Daphnia in the recovery tank. After completing the caffeine series, we
obtained a the second set of drugs. This time instead of using caffeine we used varied
concentrations of alcohol 2%, 4% and 6% using the same method as the caffeine procedure. Again
recording our results and placing the Daphnia in the recovery tank when finished.
Results
The original purpose of this experiment was to determine how alcohol and caffeine
effected the heartbeat rate of a Daphnia. The results of the experiment were that the
higher percentage caffeine and alcohol placed onto the Daphnia the higher the heart rate.
Average Daphnia Magnus Heartbeats per Minute

Conclusion
After completing the experiment we found that when we gave the Daphnia caffeine the heartbeat
rate did show an increase. However, we also found that alcohol also increased the number of times
the heart beat. Even though we performed all of the experiments very carefully, we cannot be
certain that the effect we saw was due to the drugs. Perhaps the change in heartbeat rate is caused by

Summary Of Human Trafficking In Little Princess
In Little Princess, Conor Grennan goes on a journey to Nepal for a year. His mission was at first
just to have something on his resume and to help him figure out his life. He was going to Nepal
to volunteer at an orphanage. Nepal was in a critical time, a brutal Civil War. On entering the
orphanage his perceptive of volunteering was nothing too deep. He begins to bond with the
orphans and understand their stories. Many of the children had been taken away from their
families and tricked into thinking they were going to a better place. When he departs from Nepal,
he realizes how much he misses the kids and wants to go back. In Part II, he returns to the
orphanage but leaves for two months to go volunteer around the globe. Through out the book, he
searches for the orphan s families, opens his own children s home and changes his life.
Human trafficking is a modern day multibillion slavery business, involving victims who are
kidnapped, smuggled and/or recruited then forced into slavery, labor and/or sexual exploitation.
The primary cause of human trafficking is poverty. It is a global epidemic sweeping the nations
and has been for years. It is more prevalent in third world countries, yet it is occurring all over the
world. Traffickers make an income and a way of living from offering humans for slavery, labor,
and sexual exploitation. According to Equality Now, At least 20.9 million adults and children are

  • 2. The Discovery, Structure, Metabolic Processes, Regulation... ABSTRACT Upon discovery of photosynthesis and the pathways that the molecules took during this process, chloroplasts were soon uncovered. Scientists have taken a keen interest in chloroplasts since their discovery. This review article will explore the discovery, structure, metabolic processes, regulation and the genome of the chloroplast. Chloroplast are not only vital in providing food for plant life, they are essential regulating and producing molecules for the cell. Once thought to function on their own chloroplast have their own DNA and many unique characterizes. While much has been discovered about the chloroplast there are still many unanswered questions and useful applications for these tiny organelles. INTRODUCTION Chloroplasts are very interesting organelles, thought to have once been independently functioning cells. It is believed that they were once cyanobacteria floating around in the primordial soup. These bacteria underwent respiration on their own in the absence of molecular oxygen until the ozone layer was formed and oxygen gas could exist on earth. Once this occurred, eukaryotic organisms started to flourish and they engulfed the bacteria. Once the bacteria were engulfed these prokaryotic organisms over time with evolution became what we now know today as the chloroplast. Chloroplast today are organelles within cells that have double membranes. They function in the plant to not only capture light from the sun and turn it into carbohydrates for the plant ... • 3. The Big Time College Sports In this era of big time college sports, it seems the main focus of Division I athletics evolves around the money that schools and conferences make through different deals. These deals typically involve television rights for individual conferences with major television networks. Currently the NCAA has a 14 year, $11 billion TV deal with CBS and Turner Broadcasting for the NCAA basketball Tournament, and this upcoming year ESPN will pay around $470 million to broadcast the new college football playoffs. The majority of this money is streamed to a teams athletic departments via their respective conference. The largest percentage of this money goes to teams that perform well on the field and on the court. Therefore the size of a school s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Followed closely behind is the ACC at $240 million, the Big 12 at $220 million, and lastly the SEC at $205 million (the SEC Network that launched this past August should eventually launch the conference to the top of this list) (Smith). Each conference s deal differs, so I will look at each individually conference. The first and most profitable one is the Big Ten. Big Ten The Big Ten is known as the conference where the money is. Year in and year out the Big Ten has the highest revenues. This can be credited to the prospering Big Ten Network. The Big Ten the first major conference with their own network, most major conferences have now established a conference affiliated network. The conference s revenues are expected to grow annually, and 12 of 14 Big Ten schools are expected to gain $44.5 million during the 2017 18 year, the first year of a new television deal (the two schools that are not projecting these numbers are Maryland and Rutgers which just officially joined the conference this past summer and can not receive their full share until 2020 21). Along with their Big Ten network deal, the conference also has a 10 year TV rights deal with ESPN worth close to $1 billion that will be expiring in 2016 2017. While negotiations have begun to renew this contract, it is likely that Fox will become a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The American Declaration Of Independence Although Americas often preach that we aim to constantly uphold the founding principles of this country, our government has denied citizens an essential entitlement by refusing to grant accessible health care for all people. The American Declaration of Independence famously states We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The right to pursue life has been denied to the American people for decades now because there is no organized option for assistance in maintaining proper health. Prominent life insurance companies prepared to capture the private health care market and target it towards all of their consumers as well as growing families and other groups (Budrys 72). These companies seized the growing opportunity to cover Americans everywhere and by 1950 almost half the American population had hospital insurance, compared to less than ten percent just a decade before (Stevens 259). These private companies functioned as for profit businesses in order to earn money for elite company employees, unlike the scarce options, which preceded their plans that sought to improve their companies with acquired profits. Once health care became a prevalent issue for Americans and their employer s elite lobbyists began emerging in the rising market. The American Medical Association, founded in 1847, became the largest organized group of physicians in America (Palmer, Karen). Members of the AMA were often encouraged to avoid Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) programs, which emerged throughout the 1930s, eventually going so far as to incentivizing their physicians to resist any form of national health insurance. Later, their effort to end socialized medicine evolved in 1945 to the biggest lobbyist movement of its time. In short, climate change is the change global and regional patterns regarding climate; this is due to possible changes in the Earth s axis, human activity modifying the composition of the atmosphere, or geographical activity such as volcanic eruptions [1]. Many have speculated and argued whether climatechange actually exists. Regardless of your opinion, a staggering amount of scientists have accepted climate changeas a reality. In fact, the much admired astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson claims that individuals denying scientific facts is the beginning of the end of an informed democracy [2]. The article Climate Change: No Hiding Place supports Neil deGrasse Tyson s notion stating those who doubt that greenhouse gases are quite the problem they have been cracked up to be by most of the world s climatologists [3]. Salvation is when someone comes to a certain realization that things around them are changing, and the way they once looked at life is now different. Salvation relates to the story of a young individual in this story name Langton that was saved from his own innocence. Langston was a twelve year old who majority of his time in the church with his aunt. As he grew up he saw the many changes of people and faces the church. Langston was starting to lose faith. He did not know if he should believe there was a Jesus. Langston gave up hope on Jesus when he was lost and confused, and he felt there was no one there to help him in his time of need. Hughes faced some challenging experiences and this demonstrated to him how adults may confuse children, especially when adults don t take the time to explain the religious metaphors children are trying to understand. Langston s, Auntie Reed is primarily responsible for his loss of faith at an early age. Langston s aunt should of taken the time explaining to Langston that Jesus words were as they appear in The Sermon on the Mount serve as a useful guide for living one s life, she told him that when you were saved you saw a light, and something happened to your insides! • 11. The Importance Of The House Of Lords Considering Its... Introduction: Having a unicameral UK government has always been a consideration. However, attempts to reform it or remove it, has become a controversial topic. Some critics believe that the removal of a bicameral government will be expensive, give the government too much power and reduce representation. Others consider the abolition of it to be more democratic and cheaper as it takes less time. This essay will discuss the requirement of the House of Lords considering its benefits and harms. It will also acknowledge its impacts on Westminster and Scottish Parliament, the power of the parliament and the legislative process of constitutional reform. (i)relative functions of Second Chamber in the UK Parliament and unicameral Scotland The UK Parliament is bicameral. It has two separate chambers; the House of Lords (upper house) and the House of Commons (lower house). The House of Lords is an unelected chamber totaling up to 790 members. • 12. The Nuns Priest s Tale The Nun s Priest s Tale is an allegory that uses animals with human characteristics in order to portray the moral of the story. The story centers on a rooster named Chanticleer, who possesses many human qualities, such as speaking, singing, and the ability to dream. Partlet, a hen, is described as polite, discreet, debonair, and companionable (153). These are characteristics not typically associated with animals, which strengthens the message that the animals are representative of humans. Furthermore, Chanticleer and the other animals display humanemotions, such as Chanticleer s fear of his dream, Partlet s disgust of Chanticleer s fear, and the love that Chanticleer and Partlet feel for one another. Furthermore, the fox, Sir Russell, also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Chanticleer escapes, Sir Russell tries to trick him once more, but Chanticleer has learned his lesson, stating I will curse myself . . . if you trick me once more. Never again shall you with your flattery get me to sing with my eyes closed, (164). Chanticleer singing with his eyes closed is representative of the ways in which humans can be fooled and deceived when faced with flattery. The moral of the tale is reinforced by these events, again demonstrating how the story of the animals is representative of human nature. Moreover, within the main story, there is a discussion of other stories, including different perspectives on the importance of dreams. Though Partlet believes that there is nothing but vanity in dreams (154), Chanticleer explains how this is untrue, and in the process, he discusses two other stories he knows that reinforce his belief that dreams are significant of joy as well as of trouble (156). The inclusion of these stories reaffirms the depiction of the animals as having human qualities, as Chanticleer and Partlet discuss the importance of dreams in an intellectual style. This also reinforces the tale as more than just a story about animals, but rather an important tale about human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will provide a general overview of the Social Security program, highlight concerns with the current system and outline some methods to reform Social Security. Some may argue the program will continue to provide uninterrupted benefits for the foreseeable future with no issues. This ratio problem has many contributing factors and includes more and more baby boomers retiring, longer average life spans, and a lower fertility rate in the United States. According to Mueller, One of the reasons for Social Security s continuing deficits is the influx of retirees, which is putting a strain on an already strained system. Every month, Maxim 3 250,000 more baby boomers turn 65, with many dropping out of the workforce. In 2010, 10 percent of boomers were retired; in 2014, that number had jumped to 17 percent. (Mueller, 2) This influx is moving the contributor to beneficiary ratio in the wrong direction. As far as longer lifespans, if Americans are living longer but the average retirement age is not moved higher than obviously they will spend more time collecting benefits and further push the program into debt. In Jurassic Park, animals that became extinct millions of years ago, dinosaurs, also find themselves in unnatural environment occupied by humans. I want to compare these two movies because I enjoy action movies and thrillers. Also they were both made before I was born and I have only seen them now for the first time. Both movies hold the audience attention from the very beginning and you feel yourself going through the emotions that the actors display. Steven Spielberguses nature in both films as his theme to develop his story. In Jawsthere is a great white shark that terrorizes a small island town and in Jurassic Park there are manufactured dinosaurs that are developed out of altered DNA that terrorize an island that was to be a theme park. In Jaws there is a large white shark who seems to be unstoppable. The movie begins with an unsuspecting girl swimming when the shark comes up on her and kills her. • 17. Enzyme And The Enzyme Of Enzyme Essay Introduction: An enzyme is a macromolecule that works as a catalyst and speeds up chemical reactions through a substrate that binds to the active site of the enzyme. When this process occurs, the enzyme lowers the activation energy needed. This allows the reactant molecules to reach a state where they can complete a reaction in most temperatures. The enzyme is not consumed when a chemical reaction is taking place, however, it s shape changes in order to create a proper space for a substrate to bind to. Since the enzyme is not consumed in the process of reactions, it can begin to lower the activating energy of another process as soon as the first process is complete and it has returned to its original shape. Without the assistance of enzymes, the pathways of metabolism in humans would be obstructed because every process would take so long (Smith et., 2015).For every reaction completed, a different, specific enzyme is utilized. Therefore, each location of each enzyme in the cell is very specific. The speed of the enzyme that is being utilized is dependent on factors that are found in the environment, for example, pH, temperature and the specific chemical reaction that will be occurring. The rate that a catalyst can be most beneficial with regard to temperature is directly proportional to the increase in temperature until the optimal temperature is reached. However, after the optimal temperature is reached, if the temperature continues to be increased, the rate of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Relationships between Asthma and Air Pollution Relationships between Asthma and Air Pollution Professor s comment: This student s research paper synthesizes the results of a well selected group of articles that explore relationships between asthma and air pollution. That laboratory science is at base a social enterprise is nicely exemplified by the focus of the studies she reviews. In drawing from the articles she reviews and in organizing her paper, the student maintains a good balance between discussing air borne pollutants themselves and their physical effects, between analysis and implication. In order to reset EPA air quality standards and to determine which therapeutic actions can be applied to patients to prevent deterioration of their asthma conditions (Neukirch et al., 1998), researchers have found it increasingly necessary to discover the relationships between asthma symptoms and episodes of air pollution and to identify the pollutants that are responsible for the rise in the number of people seeking respiratory medical treatment. Pollutants of Concern Epidemiologic studies have determined that the following are the major air pollutants contributing to respiratory diseases: sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), and particulate matter (PM) less than 10 mm and less than 2. 5 mm in diameter (PM10 and PM2.5, respectively) (Baldi et al., 1999; Chew et al., 1999; McConnell et al., 1999; McDonnell et al., 1999; Neukirch et al., 1998; Ostro et al., 1998; Sheppard et al., 1999; Taggart et al., 1996). Particulate matter is the product of solid and liquid particles being directly emitted into the air from such things as diesel engine soot, road and agricultural dust, and manufacturing processes, while SO2, NO2, and O3, are predominately byproducts of fuel combustion. In controlled studies of the inhalation of either SO2 or O3, subjects with asthma have been shown to be especially sensitive to these pollutants, with decrements in pulmonary function, increases in asthmatic bronchial hyperresponsiveness, ... • 20. Barbarianism In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy In all cultures, there are people struggling for survival. Some are starving, some are living in sheer poverty, some are thrown into slavery and some just cannot get their footing; but in all of these situations there seems to be a common theme that presents itself over and over again. Many of these people become so desperate to live they will give up their morals and give in to whatever they can to get by. Occasionally, there is one person stronger than the rest, one able to hold onto their morals, one that would rather die than give in to immorality. Among the flashbacks, there was a conversation between the man and his wife after the boy has been born. The man entreats his wife not to commit suicide. She wishes to die by her own hand however, in order to escape what she believes is her inevitable rape and her family s inevitable murder. She wishes that their pistol had three bullets, not only two, so that she could spare her entire family from their gruesome fate. Throughout the conversation, the man continues to beg her to reconsider her decision or at least wait until the morning to say goodbye to their son. After her death, the man and the boy pack up their camp, and the boy only says, She s gone, isn t she? (McCarthy 50). This sequence of events reveals the mother s very dark nature because instead of being there for her son, like a devoted parent, she chooses to leave this world out of pure fear of the post apocalyptic event. She even goes so far as to question the existence of her husband and newborn; yet she does not even do a small good deed as to tell her son goodbye. Instead, she chooses to burden her husband to be the sole proprietor for their son; thus revealing her animalistic nature. In addition, in preparation for the catastrophe, the dark nature of the boy s father is also evident through his decision to buy a gun in anticipation of the worst possible scenario. Caine takes the deviant path of an innovator in order to achieve cultural goals. For instance, he makes and sells drugs for money and he mugs a man in order to get nice rims for his new car. Caine rarely shows any intention of using institutionalized means of achieving cultural goals he claims he was never fit for some boring job. However, it must also be considered that Caine was born into a family that belonged to an urban slum and whose way of life had crime woven into it. Caine grew up watching his father and his father s friends deal drugs while rarely working normal jobs. He claimed that he even learned how to make drugs from his father. As a result, it becomes evident that Caine had all the opportunity in the world to be turned on to the life of a hustler since it was the same life his father led and that his friends would later live as well. In this way, Caine s life is an ideal example of illegitimate opportunity theory since crime was fused into his way of life. Growing up a young black man in an urban slum certainly did not deter Caine from deviating either. He grew up with the stigma of a young Black man. There is no better person to say this than Kahlo, whose life was filled with pain and sadness. She was one of the most influential artists of her time, especially in the Mexican community.. The most important aspects of her life were her multicultural background, her tragic accident she survived as a teen, her relationship with Diego Rivera, her death, and her face as a product. Frida Kahlo was born Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y CalderГіn, July 6th, 1907, in Coyoacan, Mexico. Her mother, Matilde Calderon y Gonzalez, was of indigenous and Spanish descent. Both of these increments are caused by climate change. In addition to increase of temperature and extreme precipitations, climate change also increases landslides, exacerbates soil erosion, causes flooding, and raises the sea level (Barnett et al. 2007). This film portrays the Vietnam War with a child like, simplicity outlook but contains much deeper meaning like thinking about life, death, and destiny. While at war, Forrest saved Lieutenant Dan Taylor s life, yet Lieutenant was not satisfied. He believed it was his destiny to die which put many things into perspective for Forrest such as life and death, especially after Forrest saw his best friend, Bubba, die at war. Forrest Gump stated in remembrance, My mama always said, dyin was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn t. In the movie, Forrest Gump, symbolism is an outstanding feature that is talentedly expressed many times by Director Zemeckis. Shown at the beginning and at the end of the movie was a white feather. This criminal, Lou, is bold enough to steal goods and then ask for a job while selling the goods he stole. His greatest desire is build a career for himself and learn a trade so that he can own his own company. Lou witnesses a horrific car crash where the car caught on fire and sees a videographer come in and video the scene and sell it. The videographer, Joe, tells him that he can sell the video to highest bidder and that it would be a top story on the news. Lou was intrigued and asked if Joe had a job, which he did not, and when Lou saw the work on the news he was convinced this was his new career. Lou steals a high end bike and trades up at a pawn shop for a video camera and a police scanner. His first story is a carjacking story where he was able to get up close footage. Nina, the director of news, was very interested in his footage for the pure graphic nature of it and that it was related to crime. After she buys that footage from him, she gives him advice about what their particular news channel is all about. She tells him that crime in a specific location are of interest to her, not the urban areas but more about the crime that is overflowing into the suburbs. She tells Lou that it would be better if the perpetrators are minority and that the victims are white. She tells him that not necessarily bloody, but definitely graphic material ... Waimanalo was formed by a catastrophic landslide from the Nuuanu Pali all the way down to the coast and to the ending of Makapu`u. Under the water lay debris and material from this landslide. In the 1960 s, the US Navy first found out about this information by a single beam sonar surveying a utilized improved radio navigation system. Two dish towels soaked red, to be exact. My mind was in a haze. Somewhere in that pool of blood lay my two front teeth. I was just an innocent, curly haired little girl when God decided to throw an event at me that would change my life forever. First grade, just a couple weeks after my permanent teethhad grown in. Lunch was going as normal: we ate, cleaned, and played. We formed a line of competitive little kids, ready to race our scooters. Small mats were stacked on top of them, for added comfort, I suppose. Little did I know the disaster that would make an impact on my life forever, was only seconds away. Luckily, my Aunt Suzanne and Uncle Chad were on lunch duty that day. About half way through the race, the mat on my scooter slid off, catching the front wheels and making the scooter tip forwards. From this point, the story becomes slightly unclear to me. What Does Sally Green s Half Bad Mean Summer Reading Assignment Written in present tense, Sally Green s Half Bad is a fast paced and intriguing novel that illustrates the enigmas and irony of human nature. No matter a person s identity, where they live, or what their role is in society, they are homogenous with the rest of humanity because of an ability to be generous and care about others yet also be parsimonious and hateful. Steven Pinker, a psychologist and author, stated Humannature is complex. Even if we do have inclinations toward violence, we also have inclination to empathy, to cooperation, to self control. The Borrelia bacteria is a spirochete bacterium that is located in the gut of the infected vector. Borrelia afzelii is commonly found in Asian and European countries, Borrelia garinii is found throughout Europe, Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii are both strains that are seen here in the United States. • 44. Claude Monet Haystacks Claude Monet was a French artist of the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. He used very gestural brush strokes in many of his painted, making them less realistic like any of the artist were doing at the time. He was thought of as the father of Impressionism. Impressionism is taking a image out of the realism skim and making it looked less real and instead more of a painting. This is done by the long and large brush strokes in many of Monet s pieces, making them an Impression of an image rather than going for a photographic look. The movement name actually came from reviewers stating that the work was an impression of an image rather than its own piece of art. This made it easy for Mondrian to make the pieces such like haystacks. The elements of the movement are color, line, and value. In the painting Monet used very bright and dark colors, and used large brushstroke lines as well. The value is seen in the darkness of the background and the brightness of the green lilies. This is also seen in many of the other pieces of impressionism in this time period. Monet employs the principles of organization through scale, emphasis, contrast, and proportion. He uses the close up scale of the haystack to show its emphasis in the piece. The contrast of the bright sky on the darker haystack is very defined as well. He used many elements of design in his piece as well. Line is a huge one; you can see the lines from the shadows, the parallel lines of the tops of the haystacks, and the landscape horizontal line as well. He also showed a ton of space since the haystacks are all on the left side, the right is a huge open space in the painting. Form is also used in the piece, considering the haystacks look 3D to the human eye. The color and value work together to create the darkness of the haystacks and shadows, and the light blue of the sky as well. Mass is the last element seen in this piece. The haystacks seem so massive in the foreground compared to the horizon in the face background of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Philip Augustus s Success Of The Angevin s Failure Was Philip Augustus success linked to the Angevin s failure? Philip Augustus undoubtedly faced weak Angevin opposition. However, it was the economic, administrative and ideological changes that had taken place in Capetian France, which were the real driving force behind Philip s success. John s comparative weakness and poor leadership credentials made Capetian success even more likely, but did not make it inevitable. Philip had to harness the French economy and win the support of his nobility. He was so successful in these endeavors that he would have been a match for any 12th century European power. The strength of the Capetian economy was one of the most important factors in Philip s success. Philip personally was very interested in developing Paris. He built Les Halles as a market place, paved many streets and invested heavily in infrastructure. The creation of a large market place and better transportation meant that the economy picked up and Paris became wealthier. This meant that Philip could call on Paris for financial support when he went on crusade. Assarting and the creation of communes furthered strengthened Philip s economy. Between 1150 and 1180 the forests of Othen and Orleans were cleared, and over 40 new villages created in their wake.1 As Hallam pointed out, the king allowed these villages to be created and granted them special privileges in exchange for rent being paid directly to the crown.
