Macbeth s State Of Mind
Throughout Shakespeare s tragedy of Macbeth, the motif of time plays a significant role as Macbeth s
state of mind progresses throughout the play. Time serves as a vital role in a tragedy, for as time
progresses, a character s inevitable and ill fated end draws closer and closer. In Shakespeare s play,
Macbeth becomes completely consumed by time as he is fixated on an illusory future and becomes
haunted by his inescapable, bloodstained past. Essentially, throughout the play, Macbeth continually
fights for his royal future, yet realizes too late that, due to the unavoidable passing of time and
mortality of life, his position as King of Scotland will be transient and momentary. Nevertheless,
throughout the course of the play, Macbeth s state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, he also recognizes that if he were to disturb the natural time and progression of events in this
bank and shoal of time (I.vii.6), he would be jeopardizing his future, for he would still have judgment
here (I.vii.8). As Macbeth ponders whether or not to kill his king in order to try to become king
himself, his main hesitations arise from the fact that, if he does kill Duncan, he will be consumed by
guilt and will suffer judgment and consequences in both this world and in the afterlife. Paralleling
Hamlet s to be or not to be speech, Macbeth s uncertainty about the afterlife and what will arise from
his mortal actions cause him to desire to proceed no further in this business (31). Thus, Macbeth s
attention on the afterlife reveals his state of mind relative to time at this point in the play as he focuses
on the future while debating whether to essentially overleap time and make himself King of Scotland,
or wait and see if the witches prophecy will come true. However, in regards to the prophecies, the
witches never mention when anything will take place. Thus, Macbeth is left with an internal struggle
as he ponders whether to let nature run its course and hopefully become king naturally, or whether to
disturb the normal order of the world and overrun the natural progression of time to ensure his
crowning. Although Macbeth concludes at the end of

Things Fall Apart Thin Line
Within William Yeats poem, the meaning of the phrase Things Fall Apart refers to how the thin line
between the undefinable parts of life and a distant reality exists when all begins to become blurred
together; no one sees the difference anymore. Life, as it comes about as undefinable, the events that
occur in one s existence should not all be meaningless . Events such as birth, growing, learning, loving
and hating divided by the distant reality in the manner of events yearned for in one s heart, or dreamed
of in someone s sleep or subconscious mind. Once this line becomes blurred, it gets be transformed
into something entirely different pertaining to one s belief, in any fashion, becomes the only reasoning
in response to terrible occurrences in one s world or life. Yeats portrays this theme, with himself, in his
poem The Second Coming. One major theme presented in the poem comes about when one gets an
interpretation of Yeat s true message. Although ,Yeats experiences how the thin line between the
undefinable parts of life and a distant reality exists when all begins to become blurred together; no one

Private Peaceful Comparative Essay
The novel Private Peaceful and the short story The Best Christmas Present in the World are both by
Michael Morpurgo, however the author is not the only thing that connects the two. When looking at
these stories you realise just how similar they are, mainly the characters, plot and many of the themes.
However, these stories are also very different, and the main characters face challenges that are
different to each other yet hold just as much importance. Tommo, our narrator in Private Peaceful,
faces difficult times when he is forced to leave his loved ones to fight for his country in the First
World War. Jim Macpherson is the protagonist in The Best Christmas Present in the World and also
has to leave his friends and family for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When looking at the latter, it does seem like Connie and Jim almost reflect Molly and Charlie in their
loss and relationship with each other. However it does seem, at a glance at least, that Private Peaceful
is the sadder of the pair. When looking deeper though, and thinking about Molly, you do realise that,
yes, she does loose her love but at least she has a support network. Connie however, didn t have any of
that and therefore never fully got over the loss of her husband, as it seems that he was her foundation
and when he left she is, as it says in the book is a bit confused and She has no family you know. No
one visits . It is clear that these stories are tales of love, loss and sorrow and hold many emotions
between their pages. They teach us of the way life was in the war, how terrible the danger was in
Private Peaceful but also how incredible the peace felt in The Best Christmas Present in the World ,
even if for only a day. They do have their differences but still give us the message of hope and to
treasure what we have, as we may not have it for much longer. They have varied plots, themes and
characters but are overall very close in many aspects, such as the sacrifices they had to

Sqlite Essay
SQLite is an Open Source database. SQLite supports standard relational database features like SQL
syntax, transactions and prepared statements. The database requires limited memory at runtime
(approx. 250 KByte) which makes it a good candidate from being embedded into other runtimes.
SQLite supports the data types TEXT (similar to String in Java), INTEGER (similar to long in Java)
and REAL (similar to double in Java). All other types must be converted into one of these fields
before getting saved in the database. SQLite itself does not validate if the types written to the columns
are actually of the defined type, e.g. you can write an integer into a string column and vice versa.
SQLite in Android

Other more familiar database engines run great once you get them going. But doing the initial
installation and configuration can be intimidatingly complex.
Server less
Most SQL database engines are implemented as a separate server process. Programs that want to
access the database communicate with the server using some kind of interprocess communication
(typically TCP/IP) to send requests to the server and to receive back results. SQLite does not work this
way. With SQLite, the process that wants to access the database reads and writes directly from the
database files on disk. There is no intermediary server process. There are advantages and
disadvantages to being server less. The main advantage is that there is no separate server process to
install, setup, configure, initialize, manage, and troubleshoot. This is one reason why SQLite is a zero
configuration database engine. Programs that use SQLite require no administrative support for setting
up the database engine before they are run. Any program that is able to access the disk is able to use
an SQLite database.
On the other hand, a database engine that uses a server can provide better protection from bugs in the
client application stray pointers in a client cannot corrupt memory on the server. And because a server
is a single persistent process, it is able control database access with more precision, allowing for finer
grain locking and better concurrency.
Most SQL database engines are

Accountability And Accountability
The word accountability is toss around so much latterly it is hard to ignore it. What exactly is
accountability? Everyone claims they are doing it yet so many leaders and employees lack the concept
of accountability. Accountability is a subject that ranges through every spectrum of life.
Accountability is hold each person responsible his or her own actions in the given situation, especially
when we know the circumstances. If we are not to hold each other responsible for each of our own
actions and choices then we will never be able to correct problems and concerns, which will make us
fail as a whole because the smallest individual action can account for the gravest of consequence.
Bustin foreshadows to ignite life within an organization using his Seven Pillars of Accountability
program as key to fulfilling the mission of the businesses by using character, unity, learning, tracking,
urgency, reputation and evolving. Character is the first of Bustin s Seven Pillars of Accountability he
writes the character of an organization is shaped by it values. He mentions that these values are clearly
defined and communicated. Making sure it does what is in the best interest of the employees,
customers, investors and suppliers even in times of great difficulty. Next Bustin explains the pillar of
unity, with everyone understanding the mission, values and vision of the organization and their part in
assisting to achieving them. Learning according to Bustin is the continued commitment to

on these observations the investigators should ask the maid why the hot tub was at an unsafe

death was due to dehydration caused by the high water temperature and further affected by the
consumption of alcohol. Alcohol potentially effected the couples decision making causing them to
increase their level of dehydration by staying in the hot tub longer than prescribed. 2) Under the
effects of Lasix Mr. Underhill s body was prevented from absorbing to much salt, which instead was
directed straight to the urine quickening the process of dehydration in the body. 3) Blood alcohol

How Converse Became so Popular with the Cool Kids In 2012, Converse sold $1.3 billion worth of

Chuck Taylor. It was founded in 1908.(Hiestand) When Chuck Taylor started the All Star, it impacted
the basketball world significantly until new companies made more practical basketball shoes, and
Converse became the footwear for all ¨cool kids.¨ Athletes gave up wearing Converse on the courts,
and famous people began to show that they were cool to wear while not playing basketball. ¨The All

was repositioned as a shoe for non athletes. It was no longer the choice of the NBA and college power

Why Does Jesus Use The Sign Of Jonah
First, his comments from Luke 11:29ff:
When the crowds were increasing, He began to say, This generation is an evil generation, it seeks for a
sign but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For as Jonah became a sign to the people
of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation...the men of Nineveh will rise up at the
judgement with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and
behold, someone greater than Jonah is here.
We should note that Jesus does not use this occasion to condemn Jonah or praise him. The sign of
Jonah is not said to be his three days and nights in the fish, but rather that he preached God s word to
that generation of Ninevites as Jesus was preaching God s word to His generation. What s more, Jesus

By refraining from making the clear connection between Jonah and the elder son, Jesus may be yet
again be extending one more kindness to Jonah.
Now, some additional observations on Jesus comments concerning Jonah:
Jesus is silent regarding Jonah s aberrant behavior and salvation, probably because, at this point, this
was not His purpose in citing Jonah.
The issue addressed by Jesus was the failure of His Jewish listeners to hear, repent and believe God as
the pagan Ninevites had done.
Jesus was complimenting the Ninevites, not Jonah nor His listeners.
Jesus comparison of Himself to Jonah had to do with their common experience in their call, preaching,
suffering, death (or near death in the case of Jonah) and return to life, rather than a comparison of the
holiness of their character. It must be noted, however, that Jesus does say that He is greater than Jonah.
This, I think, says it all. Although they had some common experiences, in reality, Jesus and Jonah
were miles apart in their embrace of the Father and His loving plan for the

Fans have argued that rodeo is abuse the the animals and others have argued that it s not abuse to
them. There are a lot of people who absolutely love the rodeo and come to watch and support it. Then
on the other hand, there are those people that hate it and are totally against it because they believe it is
abusive to the animals. Without the animals, rodeos would not be possible; therefore, the care of the
animals is of the utmost importance to all participants and staff. A writer for Beef Magazine.com says,
Rodeos put animal health and welfare in front of fans. How rodeo has used veterinary information to

with some of the most powerful Norman figures in England, engaging a series of battles in which the
throne of England was at stake. On one side was the claimant Stephen of Blois, and opposing him
Matilda (called Maud ), the daughter of recently deceased King Henry I. In these contests, Walter

David granted Walter the lands of Kerkert and Strathgryffe (much of the land of Renfrewshire) and it
was here, in Paisley, that Walter established his home. He built a structure called Blackhall Manor that

subsequent generations of his family who served as hereditary stewards of Scotland. In the centuries
to follow these hereditary stewards ascended to the Scottish throne as kings, adopting the surname
Stewart for themselves and ultimately forming the Stuart dynasty that ruled Scotland, Ireland, and
England during the 17th century [13]. Thus Blackhall Manor can be thought a cradle of kings, as the
Stuart dynasty of Scotland and England find their beginnings in Walter FitzAlan at Blackhall. Also at
Paisley, Walter endowed a Cluniac monastery in Paisley in Renfrewshire, importing monks from
Shropshire, which monastery grew into Paisley Abbey in Walter s lifetime. In later years Walter would

One Who Flew The Cuckoo s Nest Literary Analysis
One s awareness of their identity adds to the way they portray themselves and how their physique
could play a role in their identity. In the novel, One Who Flew The Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey;
Chief Bromden is the narrator of the story and for most of the book, he s just an observer. He watches
how McMurphy interacts with the men, what McMurphy is trying to do, and how the staff reacts.
Chief pretends to be deaf and unable to speak; people talk freely around him allowing him to learn
their secrets. The Chief achieves this by acting deaf if I wanted to hear at all. Although he appears
powerless, he actually has a lot of power because of all the knowledge he s gained through
observation and listening in on conversations. Ken Kesey s utilization of Bromden s point of view

St. Patrick of Ireland is one of the world s most popular saints. He was born in Roman Britain and
when he was fourteen or so, he was captured by Irish pirates during a raiding party and taken to

THE CONCEPT OF REIKI
Reiki is a Japanese form of stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing through the laying on
of hands. Despite being often referred to as spiritual healing, reiki is a secular practice and is unrelated
to any religion or faith system. Rather, it centres on the belief that all beings are created and sustained
by a universal life force energy, which, if disrupted, weakened or blocked, can result in emotional
and/or physical dis ease. Reiki practitioners act as a channel for this energy, which flows through them
and into the recipient via a series of hand positions relating to the seven main chakras, which in turn
are linked to the body s endocrine system, thereby restoring the energetic balance and encouraging the
body to self heal. As the flow of reiki energy is absorbed by the recipient through both the subtle and

The Future Of The Ncaa
Seth M. Marshall
Professor Kristen Bradley
English 1010
9 November 2015
The Future of the NCAA College athletic programs are among the most popular sporting events in
America. With this rise in popularity, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and its
colleges have also seen a rise in revenue in recent years. In 2014, the NCAA made over 900 million
dollars in revenue. Some collegiate coaches, such as Kentucky s John Calipari, have yearly salaries in
the millions, not counting incentives and endorsement deals. While, clearly, money is being made,
NCAA regulations ban collegiate athletes from being paid. Many question this rule and argue that
athletes at the college level earn and deserve pay for play. The debate to pay or not to pay college
athletes rages on despite the latest court ruling supporting NCAA policies. Because colleges and
universities earn such a profit from sporting events, many fans feel it is only fair to distribute some of
the wealth to the players. Supporters of paying student athletes feel that these young men and women
should be fairly compensated for the time demanded of the athletes and the stress put on the athletes,
physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. Those in favor of paying college athletes contend
that athletic and academic work ethic at both high school and collegiate levels will improve, as well
as, fiscal responsibility in these young adults. The NCAA argues that paying athletes would negatively
affect their

How Wood Affect The Instrument s Sound
The type of wood used in a drum will change the instrument s sound. Softer woods create smoother
tones than harder woods. Depending on the type of sound desired, the manufacturer will pick a
particular wood. Many of the softer, more pliable woods, such as spruce, require special care to avoid
breakage during use. Wood acts as a conduit to transfer vibrations from the drum head to the acoustic
chamber inside the drum. Selection When choosing wood for a drum, the maker must first determine
which type of wood will work best for his purposes. Some of the factors that go into this choice
include: the availability of the wood, its appearance and its ability to be molded and shaped. Wood
that breaks easily is not a good choice because drums have to be curved and molded to fit a round
shape. Woods that have low levels of moisture will crack easily, ... Show more content on

Mahogany is the softest and works well for drums that have a low bass pitch, such as the bass drum.
Maple is a little harder. It works well when a medium textured wood is required. Congas and bongos
are often made out of maple. Birch is the hardest wood commonly used and provides a penetrating
sound that is perfect for snare drums and drummers that need to cut through entire concert halls.
Additional woods such as rosewood, spruce, pine and oak are also used, and each has its own specific

The most influential book I have ever read was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K.
Rowling. This book was the most impactful book I have read because of all of the people, fantasy
worlds, and adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to learn about a world filled with brave souls
and passionate, kind people. Through all the struggles Harry Potter and his friends, Ron Weasley and
Hermione Granger, faced they stayed loyal to each other and were courageous through all the difficult
predicaments. Additionally, many characters J.K. Rowling created are great role models to all. An
especially significant role model is the character Hermione Granger because of her brilliant and
logical thinking skills in pressured situations. Hermione taught

Flood Myth of Epic of Gilgamesh and Book of Genesis of...
A Comparison of the Flood of Gilgamesh and the Bible
People grow up listening to the story of Noah and the flood. They remember the length of the flood,
the dove, and the rainbow very vividly. However, most people do not realize that the story is told
throughout many different cultures and with accounts older than Genesis¹s version in the Bible.
Although each of the accounts tells of the flood, there are many variations to the story. One such story
can be found in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Although the Epic of Gilgamesh is similar to the Genesis
version, there are some differences in the days leading to, during, and after the flood.
The days leading to the flood are different as well as similar in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the ... Show

After 7 days, Noah¹s flood began.
During the flood there are several similarities between the two stories. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the
flood lasted six days and nights. The whole world looked like an ocean except for the top of a
mountain where the boat ultimately landed. In Genesis, ³the rain was upon the earth forty days and
forty nights² (p. 69). The water covered the entire earth including the mountains for 150 days.
Eventually the ark rested on a mountaintop, but the mountaintops were not shown for three months. To
test to see if the waters had receded, Utnapishtim waited for six days to see if his boat would hold onto
the mountaintop. Then on the seventh day, Utnapishtim released a dove from a hatch in the boat. The
dove came back. Then he released a swallow that also came back. Lastly, he ³loosed a raven...and she
did not come back² (p. 38). After the flood ended, Noah also released birds. First, he sent a raven,
which flew around until the water dried up. Then he sent a dove, which came back. Noah waited seven
days and released it again. This time the dove came back with an olive leaf. Noah waited seven more
days; he released the dove again, which did not return.
After testing the earth to see if it was dry, both men disembarked and began their new lives.
Utnapishtim made sacrifices to his gods on the mountaintop. Noah also made sacrifices to his god.
Utnapishtim¹s gods decided that a flood as a means of destruction was not a good idea. They also

Rhetorical Analysis of The Truman Show
What I aim to do with this rhetorical analysis is bring forth to the reader a deeply immersive look at
the rhetorical concepts present in the film The Truman Show. It is important for a viewer to fully
understand the underlying messages and subtle undertones in between the lines, so to speak. The
Truman Show is one man s life being played out in a closed environment for the entertainment of the
outside world. Most important to note, Truman Burbank has no clue that his whole life has been little
more than just a television program produced on a grand scale to produce the image of reality in a
dome. The Truman Show blends ethos, logos, and pathos together in a symphony of self discovery and
power over an adversary, whether physical or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ethos belongs to Christof, it is his character, allowing him to be the god. Truman is the veritable
Adam/Eve in Eden. When searching for self awareness and knowledge outside of the Garden, his
behavior is condemned by his God. Without Christof s undying credibility, he would not be allowed to
play God. Within the same scope of thinking, Truman has a limited amount of choices he can make.
This brings to light the true definition of free will and as to whether there is a true definition to be
heard. When given the choices only to walk left or walk right with the absence of the ability to stay
put, is choosing one of two inevitable ends really a choice empowered by free will? The logos
presented in the film rests with the true nature of Truman s free will, or lack thereof. In a scripted
world of thespians and set pieces, all with a certain purpose in mind, how can an individual exist with
free will? Truman has decisions thrust upon him and they are driven into him by the guilt he possesses
from the death of his father. When Truman confronts his mother with a desire to shake up the status
quo, to get out of his snow globe, he is tamed with the simple reminder that he is responsible for his
father s death. What s so elegant and beautiful about the sinister nature of it all is that it s hidden
within the context of a cleverly crafted conversation. A simple, I never blamed

  • 2. Macbeth s State Of Mind Throughout Shakespeare s tragedy of Macbeth, the motif of time plays a significant role as Macbeth s state of mind progresses throughout the play. Time serves as a vital role in a tragedy, for as time progresses, a character s inevitable and ill fated end draws closer and closer. In Shakespeare s play, Macbeth becomes completely consumed by time as he is fixated on an illusory future and becomes haunted by his inescapable, bloodstained past. Essentially, throughout the play, Macbeth continually fights for his royal future, yet realizes too late that, due to the unavoidable passing of time and mortality of life, his position as King of Scotland will be transient and momentary. Nevertheless, throughout the course of the play, Macbeth s state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, he also recognizes that if he were to disturb the natural time and progression of events in this bank and shoal of time (I.vii.6), he would be jeopardizing his future, for he would still have judgment here (I.vii.8). As Macbeth ponders whether or not to kill his king in order to try to become king himself, his main hesitations arise from the fact that, if he does kill Duncan, he will be consumed by guilt and will suffer judgment and consequences in both this world and in the afterlife. Paralleling Hamlet s to be or not to be speech, Macbeth s uncertainty about the afterlife and what will arise from his mortal actions cause him to desire to proceed no further in this business (31). Thus, Macbeth s attention on the afterlife reveals his state of mind relative to time at this point in the play as he focuses on the future while debating whether to essentially overleap time and make himself King of Scotland, or wait and see if the witches prophecy will come true. However, in regards to the prophecies, the witches never mention when anything will take place. Thus, Macbeth is left with an internal struggle as he ponders whether to let nature run its course and hopefully become king naturally, or whether to disturb the normal order of the world and overrun the natural progression of time to ensure his crowning. Although Macbeth concludes at the end of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Things Fall Apart Thin Line Within William Yeats poem, the meaning of the phrase Things Fall Apart refers to how the thin line between the undefinable parts of life and a distant reality exists when all begins to become blurred together; no one sees the difference anymore. Life, as it comes about as undefinable, the events that occur in one s existence should not all be meaningless . Events such as birth, growing, learning, loving and hating divided by the distant reality in the manner of events yearned for in one s heart, or dreamed of in someone s sleep or subconscious mind. Once this line becomes blurred, it gets be transformed into something entirely different pertaining to one s belief, in any fashion, becomes the only reasoning in response to terrible occurrences in one s world or life. Yeats portrays this theme, with himself, in his poem The Second Coming. One major theme presented in the poem comes about when one gets an interpretation of Yeat s true message. The database requires limited memory at runtime (approx. 250 KByte) which makes it a good candidate from being embedded into other runtimes. SQLite supports the data types TEXT (similar to String in Java), INTEGER (similar to long in Java) and REAL (similar to double in Java). All other types must be converted into one of these fields before getting saved in the database. But doing the initial installation and configuration can be intimidatingly complex. Server less Most SQL database engines are implemented as a separate server process. Programs that want to access the database communicate with the server using some kind of interprocess communication (typically TCP/IP) to send requests to the server and to receive back results. SQLite does not work this way. With SQLite, the process that wants to access the database reads and writes directly from the database files on disk. There is no intermediary server process. There are advantages and disadvantages to being server less. The main advantage is that there is no separate server process to install, setup, configure, initialize, manage, and troubleshoot. This is one reason why SQLite is a zero configuration database engine. Programs that use SQLite require no administrative support for setting up the database engine before they are run. Any program that is able to access the disk is able to use an SQLite database. On the other hand, a database engine that uses a server can provide better protection from bugs in the client application stray pointers in a client cannot corrupt memory on the server. The issue addressed by Jesus was the failure of His Jewish listeners to hear, repent and believe God as the pagan Ninevites had done. Jesus was complimenting the Ninevites, not Jonah nor His listeners. Jesus comparison of Himself to Jonah had to do with their common experience in their call, preaching, suffering, death (or near death in the case of Jonah) and return to life, rather than a comparison of the holiness of their character. • 24. The Future Of The Ncaa Seth M. Marshall Professor Kristen Bradley English 1010 9 November 2015 The Future of the NCAA College athletic programs are among the most popular sporting events in America. With this rise in popularity, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and its colleges have also seen a rise in revenue in recent years. In 2014, the NCAA made over 900 million dollars in revenue. Some collegiate coaches, such as Kentucky s John Calipari, have yearly salaries in the millions, not counting incentives and endorsement deals. While, clearly, money is being made, NCAA regulations ban collegiate athletes from being paid. Many question this rule and argue that athletes at the college level earn and deserve pay for play. The debate to pay or not to pay college athletes rages on despite the latest court ruling supporting NCAA policies. Because colleges and universities earn such a profit from sporting events, many fans feel it is only fair to distribute some of the wealth to the players. Supporters of paying student athletes feel that these young men and women should be fairly compensated for the time demanded of the athletes and the stress put on the athletes, physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. Those in favor of paying college athletes contend that athletic and academic work ethic at both high school and collegiate levels will improve, as well as, fiscal responsibility in these young adults. The NCAA argues that paying athletes would negatively affect their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. How Wood Affect The Instrument s Sound The type of wood used in a drum will change the instrument s sound. Softer woods create smoother tones than harder woods. Depending on the type of sound desired, the manufacturer will pick a particular wood. Many of the softer, more pliable woods, such as spruce, require special care to avoid breakage during use. Wood acts as a conduit to transfer vibrations from the drum head to the acoustic chamber inside the drum. Selection When choosing wood for a drum, the maker must first determine which type of wood will work best for his purposes. Some of the factors that go into this choice include: the availability of the wood, its appearance and its ability to be molded and shaped. Wood that breaks easily is not a good choice because drums have to be curved and molded to fit a round shape. Woods that have low levels of moisture will crack easily, ... During the flood there are several similarities between the two stories. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the flood lasted six days and nights. The whole world looked like an ocean except for the top of a mountain where the boat ultimately landed. In Genesis, ³the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights² (p. 69). The water covered the entire earth including the mountains for 150 days. Eventually the ark rested on a mountaintop, but the mountaintops were not shown for three months. To test to see if the waters had receded, Utnapishtim waited for six days to see if his boat would hold onto the mountaintop. Then on the seventh day, Utnapishtim released a dove from a hatch in the boat. The dove came back. Then he released a swallow that also came back. Lastly, he ³loosed a raven...and she did not come back² (p. 38). After the flood ended, Noah also released birds. First, he sent a raven, which flew around until the water dried up. Then he sent a dove, which came back. Noah waited seven days and released it again. This time the dove came back with an olive leaf. Noah waited seven more days; he released the dove again, which did not return. After testing the earth to see if it was dry, both men disembarked and began their new lives. • 32. Rhetorical Analysis of The Truman Show What I aim to do with this rhetorical analysis is bring forth to the reader a deeply immersive look at the rhetorical concepts present in the film The Truman Show. It is important for a viewer to fully understand the underlying messages and subtle undertones in between the lines, so to speak. The Truman Show is one man s life being played out in a closed environment for the entertainment of the outside world. Most important to note, Truman Burbank has no clue that his whole life has been little more than just a television program produced on a grand scale to produce the image of reality in a dome. The Truman Show blends ethos, logos, and pathos together in a symphony of self discovery and power over an adversary, whether physical or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ethos belongs to Christof, it is his character, allowing him to be the god. Truman is the veritable Adam/Eve in Eden. When searching for self awareness and knowledge outside of the Garden, his behavior is condemned by his God. Without Christof s undying credibility, he would not be allowed to play God. Within the same scope of thinking, Truman has a limited amount of choices he can make. This brings to light the true definition of free will and as to whether there is a true definition to be heard. When given the choices only to walk left or walk right with the absence of the ability to stay put, is choosing one of two inevitable ends really a choice empowered by free will? The logos presented in the film rests with the true nature of Truman s free will, or lack thereof. In a scripted world of thespians and set pieces, all with a certain purpose in mind, how can an individual exist with free will? Truman has decisions thrust upon him and they are driven into him by the guilt he possesses from the death of his father. When Truman confronts his mother with a desire to shake up the status quo, to get out of his snow globe, he is tamed with the simple reminder that he is responsible for his father s death. What s so elegant and beautiful about the sinister nature of it all is that it s hidden within the context of a cleverly crafted conversation. A simple, I never blamed ...
