Career Essay On Sports Management
Career Essay
Sport Management
For the longest time I could not decide on a major and a career to study throughout college. When I
came to Georgia Southern University I discovered that they had a major that was very interesting to
me. Sport Management id the ideal major for my interest and me. Since I love sports I figured that this
would be the career for me. A degree in Sport Management helps to prepare for success in sport
related occupations.
The job market varies in the field of sport management. Some occupational opportunities include:
athletic trainer, coach, sports official, Sports agent, camp director, sporting goods sales/dealer, pro
scout, athletic director, sport promoter. The list can go on of the opportunities in ... Show more content

Depending on what occupation you decide to pursue the work and conditions will differ. Some typical
activities are, plan and direct athletic events, represent professional athletes, plan and direct the
training of the team players, evaluate skills and potential of players, or work extensively with players,
coaches, officials, managers etc. The work condition can vary with different jobs or tasks. A scout will
be called on to travel about 3/4 of the time. Athletic directors handle the athletics of their prospective
schools along with coaches. A sports agent working conditions can involve a lot of long hours and
extended pressure. Some employment settings are colleges/universities, camps, sporting goods stores,
management firms, professional teams, fitness centers and the media. The job outlook for most careers
in Sport Management is fair to good. Sport Management is one of the fastest growing fields of study
in the country. With that there will lots of job openings and new businesses starting. Some jobs in this
field are limited. For instance, anything dealing with professional teams is limited due to the number
of sports teams. Successes in the teams help with salary and benefits for the employees. Most jobs in
the sport management field are setup to where an employee must work his or her way up the ladder.
For example, the job may ask the employee to assist in work and the salaries are not as high. In some
jobs such as being a general manager of

Jaws Short Monologue Analysis
Patrick Cassells
Ms. Ballard
Period One
October 5th 2014
Over the years of cinema history, we ve heard plenty lines that make our skin crawl with bone chilling
fear, but for me, none quite did it like this line from Captain Quint, in Jaws.
You know the thing about a shark, he s got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll s eye. When he
comes at ya, doesn t seem to be livin . Until he bites ya and those black eyes roll over white. And then,
ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screamin and the ocean turns red and spite of all the poundin
and the hollerin they all come in and rip you to pieces. Y know by the end of that first dawn, lost a
hundred men! I don t know how many sharks, maybe a thousand! I don t know how many men, they
averaged six an hour. This quote is burned into my mind forever. I was maybe eleven when I first
watched Jaws, and Captain Quints long monologue about his experience in the waters of the Atlantic,
dumped into the sea by a shipwrecked USS. Indianapolis has always instilled fear and awe in me. Awe
and fear towards sharks. So what s it called when something instills a feeling of awe in a person?
Well, it means that that thing is awesome. So that must mean that ... Show more content on

To this day, many of us still see them this way. In fact, coastal states stared to host shark culling
events. In these sometime month long events, a state government will pay any fishermen to bring in a
freshly killed shark generous amounts of money. Peter Benchley, the author of Jaws doesn t support
shark culling, he in fact helped raise awareness about sharks becoming endangered. He wrote articles
about how misunderstood sharks are (Benchley, Peter). This is now illegal in the United States, but is
still practiced in countries such as Japan and Australia. Even in those countries, shark culling is on its
way out. But

The Pros And Cons Of Open Border Policy
Modern day America has put strict boundaries on immigration, but during the 18th and 19th centuries,
an open immigration policy was encouraged and accepted. The concept of America as the land of
dreamers and new beginnings is now lost due to recent border policies. An open border policy should
be implemented in America as it upholds the Constitution, benefits the domestic and international
economy, and maintains ethical standards for preserving human life.
Border restrictions and confinements on migration put the very principles of the constitution at stake.
Many proponents of closed borders utilize the Constitution s Foreign Commerce Clause , located in
Article 1, to support their argument that Congress has been granted power over migration. According
to Ilya Somin, a law professor at George Mason University, the clause supposedly gives Congress
control over migration and border policies. Despite this supposition, the Foreign Commerce Clause is
merely the realization of its name: it only grants Congress power over commerce between foreign
entities. The term commerce implies economic transactions and consequently the movement of
commodities, in this case, international movement of commodities. While manual labor can be
considered a commodity, immigration itself is not only the movement of manual labor. Immigration is
the motion of hope and humanity, a movement in pursuit of the American dream. This may be
represented in manual labor, but immigration is not only that, it

Retirement And Tax Reform
Retirement and Tax Reform
As many family members including grandma and grandpa, reach the age of retirement, her legal status
and annual income will play a role in determining whether or not she ll be able to qualify for the 401K
retirement plan that offers the most benefits. This has become the case for millions of working
Americans in modern time as qualifications increase the accessibility to these benefits has diminished.
Today, there are far more people working than previous years as unemployment rates have fallen. The
question however, remains, are there better, far more improved retirement benefits being offered to
those who work? Wrong. The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) has
wrongly came up with many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Passing the Retirement and Tax Reform would only hurt the economical situation severely. According
to Warren S. Hersch in the article Message to Congress: Leave our products alone , he states that, This
reform would not only hurt the U.S Economy by costing it about $583 billion dollars. A few of the
major concerns today that people still have include the controversy between whether or not members
of Congress are against the idea of passing this act and why Congress continues to push away the idea
of passing this act from the NAIFA. The NAIFA is working to pass a reform that only applies to a
specific portion of America and would result in an economic blunder. If the government is already so
in debt, needful of tax money, where would they get the money to fund for all of this? Instead of
causing financial trouble for some people as a nation, the government should focus on coming
together and employing minorities. By doing so, this would allow the NAIFA to focus on constructing
a new plan and hopefully finding a solution to work towards the debt

Key Aspects Of Dog Grooming
Everyone cares about their dogs, and some people care so much that they treat their dogs like family.
Taking care of their dog and making sure he/she is giving the proper care is the most important thing
to a veterinary/vet. tech./assistant. Throughout this text one will begin to learn and note the key
aspects of dog grooming, along with that, they will be able to apply them to their skills. So why not
take this knowledge and make someone s dog s vet trip more of a relaxing spa day.
Before one can begin any type of grooming, applying for and getting the job at a vet, animal hospital,
etc. is a must. How can that be achieved? Well it s quite simple really, I m going to let you in on a few
key secrets that can...and will help you land the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At most vets or animal clinics there are small and large dogs, because of the size differences the small
and large dogs the grooming techniques differ. But lets hold on for a second. Before we even begin to
groom the dogs one should get to know the dog better. Getting to know the dog (even if it s for only a
few minutes) can help the grooming process go ten times smoother, because it allows not only you to
get use to the dog but the dog gets use to you. Now that you two are familiar with one another the real
grooming process can begin. When you are going to wash the dog know that there are some key points
to remember. Though the dog has familiarized themselves with you, they still may not want a bath. At
all cost do not force the dog to be bathed, in the end you are only going to stress out the dog and a
stress dog creates an even more frustrated groomer. The point was clearly stated in the quote The
reality is that few dogs were born loving baths, or even water. Resistance toward getting a bath can
stem from inexperience or a previous bathing debacle. Regardless of the reason, a calm demeanor and
gentle persistence are essential to keeping your pooch calm in the bathtub. SSS It gives a clear view
and why the dog may feel this way and how to correct it for a successful grooming. Once you have
gotten the dog to relax and stay calm you are ready to start. This first step is optional and mostly used
for dogs who have long fur, before applying any water grab a brush and brush through the fur, this
technique helps to lessen the amount of tangles the dog could have had or will have by the end of the
bath. Now you can go ahead to apply water all over the dog s body to get the fur nice and soaked.
After the dog has been soaked next is the shampoo, most vets use shampoos that help kill fleas, ticks,
and other vermin. Bring the shampoo to a lather and get it all over the dog,

Fluctuating Gas Prices Will Never End Essay
These days, gas prices seem to be a weekly topic on local and national news channels. Every time
there is some type of fluctuation, it causes an uproar, usually because it is a difference of ten cents or
greater. The reasons as to why is definitely a mystery with new myths popping up each day and almost
all the supposed reasons being incorrect. The real discussion should be not as to what causes the price
change but how it affects our everyday lives. Should we adjust our way of life to accommodate less
driving or have we already? In the U.S., we saw gas prices go as low as $1.75 and as high as $3.00 in
2005. In 2006, we saw almost the same trend with a low of $2.10 and so far we have leveled out
around $3.00 or so. While I can agree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hurricane Katrina alone took out about 25 percent of U.S. crude oil production and about 15 percent
of U.S. refinery capacity which caused quite an increase in manufacturing costs. The largest factor that
has had the most impact on the overall rise in gas price is the removal of methyl tertiary butyl ether
that started in 2003. Due to the threat of groundwater contamination, the use of the gasoline additive
MTBE has been in the process of being phased out for several years. More than half of the States have
already banned the use of MTBE and you can clearly see its affect since gas prices started its biggest
increase in the same year that production had to change to accommodate the removal. Hybrid cars are
now a fad to save the environment and could be a way to cut down on usage. They use a battery to
supplement some power therefore using less gas. You could say this is the answer but in reality, while
it does help with emissions, which is a positive factor if you want to save some trees, cost wise, it s
actually worse. In a report released by Consumer Reports earlier this year, they showed that every
single hybrid model car that has ever been made is more expensive to own and operate that its non
hybrid counterpart. So while you save a few pennies on the gallon when you gas up, you spend an
average of two thousand to ten thousand more over a five year span to drive a hybrid and that s after
you calculate your gas savings. Therefore, hybrids are not

Montresor And Fortunato Similarities
There have been many books and short stories written about revenge, but the list shrinks that compare
to The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe. The story of two men, Montresor and Fortunato.
Montresor had been wounded by Fortunato a thousand times (Poe) and then during one party,
Fortunato insults Montresor for the last time. The setting in The Cask of Amontillado provides a
perfect area for Montresor to commit the crime. Montresor s underground catacomb provides a
movement from the freedom from the outside world to the constraints of the underground. The way
Poe writes about it is meant to make us hyper aware of these emotions through careful attention to the
setting. (Shmoop). The short stories setting is an area of confinement, ... Show more content on

The way Montresor is talking about the story suggests that he isn t over what he did to Fortunato. Him
still talking about an event that occurred fifty years ago means that he can t forget it. It s ironic
because it seems he is still locked up from the event, while Fortunato is a free spirit and can do
anything. All the trouble Montresor went through and Fortunato is still free, just not in the real world.
A source explains it like this You can certainly argue that Montresor presents a contrast to Fortunato s
fate in that he finds freedom at the end of the story: he is alive. (Shmoop). Fortunato s death can be
seen as the ultimate freedom from the world. The catacombs represent a prison esque place, but

The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy Essay
The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy
The Milesians and Heraclitus
Long before the time of Thales, a citizen of Miletus, in the district of Ionia on the west coast of Asia
Minor, Chaldaen astrologers had listed data on the position of the stars and planets. As Thales studied
these tables he thought he discerned a pattern or regularity in the occurrence of eclipses, and he
ventured to predict a solar eclipse that occurred on May 28th 585BC. Some scholars think that this
was just a lucky empirical guess, but if it was the discovery of an astronomical regularity or natural
law, then Thales may be credited with distinguishing Greek philosophy and science from the
somewhat aimless observations and disjointed information of the Eastern wise ... Show more content

Since, too, a general theory must attempt to explain biological phenomena as well as physics and
astronomy, another reason for selecting water may have been its indepensibility to life. And a little
ingenuity can invent other considerations. But Anaximander (610 545?BC), Thales successor, in
additions to specific contributions to science, saw a difficulty in Thales general cosmology. If water
were he basic substance, he thought, fire could never have come into existence, for there is an
essential antagonism between their peculiar qualities. For the same reason, if the substratum were fire,
the existence of fire could not be explained.. Therefore, Anaximander assumed a Boundless that was
neither wet or dry, hot or cold, but rather indeterminately both wet and dry, cold and hot. Thus, the
matter of the universe was Boundless, not merely because it extended throughout infinite space, but
also, and mainly, because it was not bounded, limited, or defined by any quality. This original
substance produces the world and its content by a swirling motion that separates four qualities out of
the chaotic mass. This swirl explains the revolution of the starts and planets.
The third member of the Milesian school, Anaximenes (590 525BC) could not be persuaded to look
for the universal substratum beyond the

Comparing Sayyid Qutb And Zaynab Al Ghazali
When comparing and contrasting the different ideologies of Sayyid Qutb and Zaynab al Ghazali, there
is a strong fundamental sense for both in the role of Islam in constructing an ideal society; that Islam
in one s daily life contains everything that a person or a society might lack. So too do these thinkers
hold a strong parallel between western modernity and the Jahiliya. Where Qutb and al Ghazali differ
comes from their conceptual differences, particularly in regards to gender and governing.
A strong sense of the divisions for both Qutb and al Ghazali come from their vastly different
intellectual and cultural contexts. Sayyid Qutb, the author of some of the most influential writings in
the Muslim world, was a highly educated theorist, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his infamous book, Signposts Along the Road, Qutb dissents against the state of humanity. He
writes, Humanity today is standing at the brink of an abyss...because humanity is bankrupt in the
realm of values ...which foster true human progress and development (136). Qutb puts forth the
problem of humanity, and offers the solution, saying, Islam alone possesses such values (137). Qutb
takes the stance that the traditional implementation of Islam would fix failing societies and even
economies. He boldly states that the time has come for a worldly renewal, and in order to achieve that,
humanity needs something with a spirit stronger than those of patriotism, nationalism, and renaissance
concepts; the only owner of such a spirit, according to Qutb, is Islam. Much like Sayyid Qutb, Zaynab
al Ghazali also strongly believes that Islam is a true perfection that can fix anything or provide anyone
with what he or she needs. In al Ghazali s case, the issue revolves around women s rights and
feminism. In an interview, she was asked about her very early involvement with the non Islamic
feminist group headed by Huda al Sha rawi that called for the liberation of women. She responded
saying, That was a mistake...Islam has provided everything for both men and women. It gave women

Captain Beatty Character Analysis
Anyone who has read the book Fahrenheit 451 will immediately remember the infamous Captain
Beatty. For people who have not read the book, or do not remember Captain Beatty, he is the fire chief
who has a very controversial role in the book. He starts out looking like the antagonist of the story but
then towards the end of the book one could wonder if he was the alter ego of Montag, for example, he
shows the other way the story of Montag could have gone instead of him ending up with Granger s
group helping re educate the world one book at a time.
In the beginning, Beatty seems like the typical fireman in that time, against books, seems to have

The exact quote Beatty says There is no terror, Cassius, in your threats, for I am arm d so strong in
honesty that they pass me as an idle wind, which I respect not! (119) This shows that even Beatty was
reading books for quite some time. This is where the similarity between Montag and Beatty ends, and
where their stories take different routes. At this point, Montag stood up for what he believed in and
risked his life. This could have gone another way, Beatty s way, Montag could have sucked it up and
stayed a fireman and lived a lie like Beatty had.
Shortly after that quote, Montag realized that Beatty wanted to die, on page 122, and he was
wondering why. In class, we think that Beatty wanted to die because he did not want to have to carry
the burden of reading when it is against the law or without being able to share it with everyone and he
thought that the only way for him to get rid of that burden was to die. Montag could have thought that
and committed suicide like Beatty did but since we established Beatty was Montag s alter ego he did
not do that and he went to find Granger s group instead.
In conclusion, Beatty can be depicted as both an antagonist and as Montag s alter ego/ other half
because he was living a very similar life to Montag such as being a fire chief, reading books, being
bombarded with questions etc, until he took a different road at the end, which seemed like a safer road
because he still had his job and a good

Beauvoir Second Sex Analysis
The Second Sex is one of the earliest attempts to confront human history from a feminist perspective.
It won de Beauvoir many admirers and just as many detractors. Today, many regard this massive and
meticulously researched masterwork as not only as pillar of feminist thought but of twentieth century
philosophy in general. It remains to this day one of the foundational texts in philosophy, feminism,
and women s studies. De Beauvoir s primary thesis is that men fundamentally oppress women by
characterizing them, on every level, as the Other, defined exclusively in opposition to men. Man
occupies the role of the self, or subject; woman is the object, the other. He is essential, absolute, and

The increase in military spending is another argument that caused stagnation in the Soviet Union

In early 1968 began the Czechoslovak Communist Party under the leadership of Alexander Dubček to
introduce a series of reforms, including the abolition of censorship (Fordham.edu, 2014). In response
to these efforts, the Soviet Union launched a policy to combat anti socialist forces (Wilde, 2014). The

Urban Poverty In Planet Of Slums By Mike Davis
In the passage, Planet of Slums by Mike Davis, the author has a dystopic view on urbanization and
argues that urban poverty is increasing and has a negative impact on the world. His dystopic vision
can be written off as a society with undesirable traits such as poverty, oppression, and overcrowding.
Davis s vision on these people s lifestyle can be compared and contrasted with Robert Neuwirth s
view of this lifestyle in his passage, Shadow Cities and the film Sleep Dealer by Alex Rivera.
The author Mike Davis has done countless research on the topic of urban poverty. In his studies he
collects and receives his information from other sources. Perhaps this is the reason why he has a
negative view on slums. This is illustrated in his piece Planet of Slums as he discusses the politics,
urban development, and methods within the slums population. According to Davis, slums and urban
poverty have and will continue to significantly increase. While doing so, the gap in exclusion and
inequality will grow. As a result, this will weaken urban elites in their work to utilize cities as engines
of growth. Slums and slum population are classified as those who are living below the poverty lines,
all while, being associated with overcrowding, having poor or informal housing, inadequate access to
safe water and sanitation, and insecurity of tenure. This is being recognized as an international
phenomenon. To emphasis this phenomenon, approximately half of the slum population in most

Streetcar Named Desire Dramatic Techniques Essay
In his staging of A Streetcar Named Desire , Tennessee Williams is creative in his unorthodox fusing
of realistic elements with an expressionistic style. We can see the themes and ideas that Williams is
trying to portray through more than just the dialogue and good acting. Dramatic strategies such as
form, staging and set design, the costumes and so on, these all help convey to an audience the themes
of the play in either quite obvious or subtle ways; most of the time it s subtle, we have to really look
into even the tiniest of details as more often than not they have more meaning than previously thought.
Williams used an array of dramatic strategies such as coloured symbolism and a creative use of

One), and the references made to the L N tracks and warehouses creates the setting as an urban, built

comparison of the exterior and the interior. The stage directions note the lighting as only highlighting
specific parts of the stage; there are two rooms but they re not defined clearly enough for the audience.
Throughout the play the movement between the Kowalski apartment and the streets below is
seamless; the transparent walls aid the fluid movements, and at times, both the streets and the
apartment can be seen at once. This emphasises the way that the public can intrude on the private
despite the walls that seem to separate them. Seeing the boundary between exterior and interior
highlights the theme of fantasy and illusion. The most noteworthy use of this theatrical device comes
when Stanley rapes Blanche and the back wall becomes transparent, and this shows the loud argument

thinkers, Nikola Tesla is the most likely candidate for a lasting influence upon the general public, due
to the fact that his inventions and discoveries are visible in the lives of nearly all people.
Despite the fact that Nikola Tesla is not the subject of the admiration of many, the inventions
attributed to him have affected the lives of countless people throughout the world. Tesla, the Croatian
born inventor, is responsible, in part, for the modern electrical system, which may be seen in nearly all
residences, places of business, and places of debauchery. Tesla s contribution to the electrical system
provided greater efficiency, due to the fact that his use of alternating current allowed for a requirement
of fewer power stations within a given area, thus improving upon Edison s original vision ( Nikola
Tesla ). Tesla s foray into the field of electricity was not limited to the electric system, thus Tesla is
attributed with the creation of the induction motor, which may be seen in electric cars, fans used for
the circulation of air, devices used within the hard drives of computers, and numerous other devices,
thus Tesla is responsible for devices without which more advanced devices in the

How Cram Changed My Life Essay
What happened next changed his life. The first thing Cram noticed, true to himself, was the
architecture. Overall, he was unimpressed with the style, which he never came to appreciate. For about
thirty minutes, Cram battled boredom, until the service started. He described the experience in his own
words:
Then, in their white and gold vestments, the sacred ministers came silently to the high altar, attended
by crucifers, thurifers and acolytes, and stood silently waiting. Suddenly came the bells striking the
hour of midnight, and with the last clang the great organs and the choir burst into a melodious thunder
of sound; the incense rose in clouds, filling the church with a veil of pale smoke; and the Mass
proceeded to its climax with the offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Body and Blood of Christ. I did
not understand all of this with my mind, but I understood.

The Events That Changed Latin America
The Event that Changed Latin America The Latin American countries have been subject to many
changes ever since the American continent was discovered. These changes have mainly affected the
economy, culture and power changes these countries have suffered throughout the years. According to
Jon Charles Chasteen on his book Born in Blood Fire During the twentieth century, there were three
main events that changed the course of Latin American countries and their economies. These three
events were, the emergence of nationalism, the end of World War II, and the Cuban revolution.
However, in my point of view, the event that created more impact in Latin America and the future of
these countries has been Cuban Revolution. It is not a secret that the Cuban Revolution created a big
impact to the country s future, unfortunately this revolution not only changed Cuba, but also the entire
region of Latin America. However, the revolution, led by Fidel Castro, brought hope for those who
supported the fight against the repressive government in the island, but it also brought a red signal of
danger and fear of Cold War to other countries in America, especially for United States. Even though
the revolutionary Fidel Castro was friend with the Soviet Union, Cuba never played a big role outside
of the island. Nevertheless, United State anti communism policy encouraged a violent anti
revolutionary reaction that spreader all over Latin America in the 60 s and 70 s.

At the end of the Civil War, two great men found themselves in a bind. Robert E. Lee, commander of
the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, had a slew of wounded and malnourished soldiers, and
nothing to feed them. Ulysses S. Grant, commander of the Union Army, had resources to spare and
extended an offer of surrender in exchange for those rations. Lee accepted, and therefore forfeit the
Civil War to the Union Army. Throughout their four year struggle for victory, the two men underwent
many trials, and ultimately came to a consensus that the carnage had to come to an end. Although Lee
and Grant had drastically different approaches to the way they commanded their respective armies,
both went down in American History as heroes. Robert E. Lee was fanatic about the caliber of his
work and held those around him to extremely high standards, which led to his eventual downfall, and
decision to surrender at Appomattox. Throughout his life, Lee was noted as being incredibly dedicated

to rising sea levels, warmer air temperatures, and more erratic weather and jet stream patterns, which

flight patterns to less fuel efficient paths.
Hope comes in the form of a progressive vision, one which will set Southwest above its peers in the
modernization of environmentally conscious advancement of aviation practices. Setting an example
by making commercial aviation operations sustainable and environmentally sound through the
implementation of innovative practices in air and ground operations for the betterment of the aviation

this is a very ambitious vision, it is attainable through solid change strategy, focusing on existing

subsequent impact to the environment, is through altering takeoff procedures and investing in more

Trade Between China And Latin America
In 1999, trade between China and Latin America totaled approximately $8 billion; by 2009, that
number had had grown to $130 billion. Earlier this year, a study by the United Nations Economic
Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) concluded that by the year 2016, trade
between China and Latin America will surpass that between the Eurozone and Latin America, making
China Latin America s second largest trading partner. Most studies of this partnership have focused
on: a growing security dilemma, a monumental language barrier, sea disputes, a red scare (the fear that
China will spread communism), and Africa China relations (where China is often referred to as a new
imperialist). This paper will explore the motivations and strategies that are shaping China s
engagements in Latin America. I will focus, first, on China s resource extraction strategies in Latin

Instead of legalizing homosexual marriage, many people are advocating a compromise the domestic

or homosexual couples to share the cost of living expenses. The consent also serves as a symbolic
commitment to monogamy for many gays. However, many people qualify for the domestic

Furthermore, not only does a domestic partnership deny homosexual couples many rights, it is a

Menstruation is a natural and necessary process that has been occurring since human beings can

meet the needs of women to care for themselves during their menstrual bleeding period. There have
been numerous approaches used by women from all over the world and over the years. Of the
numerous materials, used to collect and dispose of menstrual waste, two have remained most popular,
the pad and the tampon. While many might use, and be familiar with their use in their menstrual

Some of the earliest records we have concerning menstrual hygiene solutions are those of ancient

wealthy, used internal plugs made from soft papyrus or wool. Poorer women, who might not have
been able to afford soft papyrus or wool were recorded to have used softened aquatic grasses (Farage

Child Labor Rights
Mother Jones, Cesar Chavez, and Malala Yousafzai all fought for the rights that they believed in. They
all were leaders part of a big picture. Although these three individuals used different methods to get
their point across, they all had courage to speak out about injustice and improve human rights. Mother
Jones was a lady who stood up for all of the children who were mistreated because of child labor.
When trying to get her point out, Mother Jones went to newspapers for public articles on what was

Indian society is a highly patriarchal society and has always given men more rights over women. In
such situations the woman begins to feel helpless and her life meaningless, this instigates the husband
to feel more powerful and dominant. Moreover economically backward and illiterate families have the
problems of bad relationships between the mother in law and daughter in law, where the husband
siding with his mother, finds it right to hit his wife to teach her a lesson.

  • 3. Jaws Short Monologue Analysis Patrick Cassells Ms. Ballard Period One October 5th 2014 Over the years of cinema history, we ve heard plenty lines that make our skin crawl with bone chilling fear, but for me, none quite did it like this line from Captain Quint, in Jaws. You know the thing about a shark, he s got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll s eye. When he comes at ya, doesn t seem to be livin . Until he bites ya and those black eyes roll over white. And then, ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screamin and the ocean turns red and spite of all the poundin and the hollerin they all come in and rip you to pieces. Y know by the end of that first dawn, lost a hundred men! I don t know how many sharks, maybe a thousand! I don t know how many men, they averaged six an hour. This quote is burned into my mind forever. I was maybe eleven when I first watched Jaws, and Captain Quints long monologue about his experience in the waters of the Atlantic, dumped into the sea by a shipwrecked USS. Indianapolis has always instilled fear and awe in me. Awe and fear towards sharks. So what s it called when something instills a feeling of awe in a person? Well, it means that that thing is awesome. So that must mean that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To this day, many of us still see them this way. In fact, coastal states stared to host shark culling events. In these sometime month long events, a state government will pay any fishermen to bring in a freshly killed shark generous amounts of money. Peter Benchley, the author of Jaws doesn t support shark culling, he in fact helped raise awareness about sharks becoming endangered. He wrote articles about how misunderstood sharks are (Benchley, Peter). This is now illegal in the United States, but is still practiced in countries such as Japan and Australia. Even in those countries, shark culling is on its way out. But ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Open Border Policy Modern day America has put strict boundaries on immigration, but during the 18th and 19th centuries, an open immigration policy was encouraged and accepted. The concept of America as the land of dreamers and new beginnings is now lost due to recent border policies. An open border policy should be implemented in America as it upholds the Constitution, benefits the domestic and international economy, and maintains ethical standards for preserving human life. Border restrictions and confinements on migration put the very principles of the constitution at stake. Many proponents of closed borders utilize the Constitution s Foreign Commerce Clause , located in Article 1, to support their argument that Congress has been granted power over migration. According to Ilya Somin, a law professor at George Mason University, the clause supposedly gives Congress control over migration and border policies. Despite this supposition, the Foreign Commerce Clause is merely the realization of its name: it only grants Congress power over commerce between foreign entities. The term commerce implies economic transactions and consequently the movement of commodities, in this case, international movement of commodities. While manual labor can be considered a commodity, immigration itself is not only the movement of manual labor. Immigration is the motion of hope and humanity, a movement in pursuit of the American dream. This may be represented in manual labor, but immigration is not only that, it ... • 5. • 6. Retirement And Tax Reform Retirement and Tax Reform As many family members including grandma and grandpa, reach the age of retirement, her legal status and annual income will play a role in determining whether or not she ll be able to qualify for the 401K retirement plan that offers the most benefits. This has become the case for millions of working Americans in modern time as qualifications increase the accessibility to these benefits has diminished. Today, there are far more people working than previous years as unemployment rates have fallen. The question however, remains, are there better, far more improved retirement benefits being offered to those who work? Wrong. The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) has wrongly came up with many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Passing the Retirement and Tax Reform would only hurt the economical situation severely. According to Warren S. Hersch in the article Message to Congress: Leave our products alone , he states that, This reform would not only hurt the U.S Economy by costing it about $583 billion dollars. A few of the major concerns today that people still have include the controversy between whether or not members of Congress are against the idea of passing this act and why Congress continues to push away the idea of passing this act from the NAIFA. The NAIFA is working to pass a reform that only applies to a specific portion of America and would result in an economic blunder. Before we even begin to groom the dogs one should get to know the dog better. Getting to know the dog (even if it s for only a few minutes) can help the grooming process go ten times smoother, because it allows not only you to get use to the dog but the dog gets use to you. Now that you two are familiar with one another the real grooming process can begin. When you are going to wash the dog know that there are some key points to remember. Though the dog has familiarized themselves with you, they still may not want a bath. At all cost do not force the dog to be bathed, in the end you are only going to stress out the dog and a stress dog creates an even more frustrated groomer. The point was clearly stated in the quote The reality is that few dogs were born loving baths, or even water. Resistance toward getting a bath can stem from inexperience or a previous bathing debacle. Regardless of the reason, a calm demeanor and gentle persistence are essential to keeping your pooch calm in the bathtub. • 8. Fluctuating Gas Prices Will Never End Essay These days, gas prices seem to be a weekly topic on local and national news channels. Every time there is some type of fluctuation, it causes an uproar, usually because it is a difference of ten cents or greater. The reasons as to why is definitely a mystery with new myths popping up each day and almost all the supposed reasons being incorrect. The real discussion should be not as to what causes the price change but how it affects our everyday lives. Should we adjust our way of life to accommodate less driving or have we already? In the U.S., we saw gas prices go as low as $1.75 and as high as $3.00 in 2005. In 2006, we saw almost the same trend with a low of $2.10 and so far we have leveled out around $3.00 or so. Hurricane Katrina alone took out about 25 percent of U.S. crude oil production and about 15 percent of U.S. refinery capacity which caused quite an increase in manufacturing costs. The largest factor that has had the most impact on the overall rise in gas price is the removal of methyl tertiary butyl ether that started in 2003. Due to the threat of groundwater contamination, the use of the gasoline additive MTBE has been in the process of being phased out for several years. More than half of the States have already banned the use of MTBE and you can clearly see its affect since gas prices started its biggest increase in the same year that production had to change to accommodate the removal. Hybrid cars are now a fad to save the environment and could be a way to cut down on usage. They use a battery to supplement some power therefore using less gas. You could say this is the answer but in reality, while it does help with emissions, which is a positive factor if you want to save some trees, cost wise, it s actually worse. In a report released by Consumer Reports earlier this year, they showed that every single hybrid model car that has ever been made is more expensive to own and operate that its non hybrid counterpart. So while you save a few pennies on the gallon when you gas up, you spend an average of two thousand to ten thousand more over a five year span to drive a hybrid and that s after you calculate your gas savings. The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy Essay The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy The Milesians and Heraclitus Long before the time of Thales, a citizen of Miletus, in the district of Ionia on the west coast of Asia Minor, Chaldaen astrologers had listed data on the position of the stars and planets. As Thales studied these tables he thought he discerned a pattern or regularity in the occurrence of eclipses, and he ventured to predict a solar eclipse that occurred on May 28th 585BC. But Anaximander (610 545?BC), Thales successor, in additions to specific contributions to science, saw a difficulty in Thales general cosmology. If water were he basic substance, he thought, fire could never have come into existence, for there is an essential antagonism between their peculiar qualities. For the same reason, if the substratum were fire, the existence of fire could not be explained.. Therefore, Anaximander assumed a Boundless that was neither wet or dry, hot or cold, but rather indeterminately both wet and dry, cold and hot. Thus, the matter of the universe was Boundless, not merely because it extended throughout infinite space, but also, and mainly, because it was not bounded, limited, or defined by any quality. This original substance produces the world and its content by a swirling motion that separates four qualities out of the chaotic mass. This swirl explains the revolution of the starts and planets. Comparing Sayyid Qutb And Zaynab Al Ghazali When comparing and contrasting the different ideologies of Sayyid Qutb and Zaynab al Ghazali, there is a strong fundamental sense for both in the role of Islam in constructing an ideal society; that Islam in one s daily life contains everything that a person or a society might lack. So too do these thinkers hold a strong parallel between western modernity and the Jahiliya. Where Qutb and al Ghazali differ comes from their conceptual differences, particularly in regards to gender and governing. Qutb puts forth the problem of humanity, and offers the solution, saying, Islam alone possesses such values (137). Qutb takes the stance that the traditional implementation of Islam would fix failing societies and even economies. He boldly states that the time has come for a worldly renewal, and in order to achieve that, humanity needs something with a spirit stronger than those of patriotism, nationalism, and renaissance concepts; the only owner of such a spirit, according to Qutb, is Islam. Much like Sayyid Qutb, Zaynab al Ghazali also strongly believes that Islam is a true perfection that can fix anything or provide anyone with what he or she needs. In al Ghazali s case, the issue revolves around women s rights and feminism. At this point, Montag stood up for what he believed in and risked his life. This could have gone another way, Beatty s way, Montag could have sucked it up and stayed a fireman and lived a lie like Beatty had. Shortly after that quote, Montag realized that Beatty wanted to die, on page 122, and he was wondering why. In class, we think that Beatty wanted to die because he did not want to have to carry the burden of reading when it is against the law or without being able to share it with everyone and he thought that the only way for him to get rid of that burden was to die. Montag could have thought that and committed suicide like Beatty did but since we established Beatty was Montag s alter ego he did not do that and he went to find Granger s group instead. In conclusion, Beatty can be depicted as both an antagonist and as Montag s alter ego/ other half because he was living a very similar life to Montag such as being a fire chief, reading books, being bombarded with questions etc, until he took a different road at the end, which seemed like a safer road because he still had his job and a good ... His dystopic vision can be written off as a society with undesirable traits such as poverty, oppression, and overcrowding. Davis s vision on these people s lifestyle can be compared and contrasted with Robert Neuwirth s view of this lifestyle in his passage, Shadow Cities and the film Sleep Dealer by Alex Rivera. The author Mike Davis has done countless research on the topic of urban poverty. In his studies he collects and receives his information from other sources. Perhaps this is the reason why he has a negative view on slums. This is illustrated in his piece Planet of Slums as he discusses the politics, urban development, and methods within the slums population. According to Davis, slums and urban poverty have and will continue to significantly increase. While doing so, the gap in exclusion and inequality will grow. As a result, this will weaken urban elites in their work to utilize cities as engines of growth. The stage directions note the lighting as only highlighting specific parts of the stage; there are two rooms but they re not defined clearly enough for the audience. Throughout the play the movement between the Kowalski apartment and the streets below is seamless; the transparent walls aid the fluid movements, and at times, both the streets and the apartment can be seen at once. • 28. The Events That Changed Latin America The Event that Changed Latin America The Latin American countries have been subject to many changes ever since the American continent was discovered. These changes have mainly affected the economy, culture and power changes these countries have suffered throughout the years. According to Jon Charles Chasteen on his book Born in Blood Fire During the twentieth century, there were three main events that changed the course of Latin American countries and their economies. These three events were, the emergence of nationalism, the end of World War II, and the Cuban revolution. However, in my point of view, the event that created more impact in Latin America and the future of these countries has been Cuban Revolution. It is not a secret that the Cuban Revolution created a big impact to the country s future, unfortunately this revolution not only changed Cuba, but also the entire region of Latin America. However, the revolution, led by Fidel Castro, brought hope for those who supported the fight against the repressive government in the island, but it also brought a red signal of danger and fear of Cold War to other countries in America, especially for United States. Even though the revolutionary Fidel Castro was friend with the Soviet Union, Cuba never played a big role outside of the island. Nevertheless, United State anti communism policy encouraged a violent anti revolutionary reaction that spreader all over Latin America in the 60 s and 70 s. They wanted to ... • 29. Lee Vs Grant At the end of the Civil War, two great men found themselves in a bind. Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, had a slew of wounded and malnourished soldiers, and nothing to feed them. Ulysses S. Grant, commander of the Union Army, had resources to spare and extended an offer of surrender in exchange for those rations. Lee accepted, and therefore forfeit the Civil War to the Union Army. Throughout their four year struggle for victory, the two men underwent many trials, and ultimately came to a consensus that the carnage had to come to an end. Although Lee and Grant had drastically different approaches to the way they commanded their respective armies, both went down in American History as heroes. Robert E. Lee was fanatic about the caliber of his work and held those around him to extremely high standards, which led to his eventual downfall, and decision to surrender at Appomattox. Throughout his life, Lee was noted as being incredibly dedicated to his duties, and oftentimes even put his job over his family. On the other hand, although Grant did win the war, I do not think his efforts are remembered in such great magnitude as Lee s. Hope comes in the form of a progressive vision, one which will set Southwest above its peers in the modernization of environmentally conscious advancement of aviation practices. Setting an example by making commercial aviation operations sustainable and environmentally sound through the implementation of innovative practices in air and ground operations for the betterment of the aviation industry and the human race. This vision will lead to an industry benchmark in the effective, efficient, and effusive operations that will become commonplace in the future of commercial aviation. Although this is a very ambitious vision, it is attainable through solid change strategy, focusing on existing technology, for operations in flight and on the ground. Perkins Coie Biography To Perkins Coie, I, Charles Louis de Secondat baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu, would be extremely grateful if I were to become a member of the Perkins Coie international law firm. In my life, I have contributed a great deal in political philosophy and with my experiences and contributions, I am the ideal candidate to become a member of this organization. After I completed my general studies at the Oratorian Collège de Juilly in 1705 and received my law degree from the University of Bordeaux in 1708, I went to Paris to further my practice in law. However, once my father died 1713, I had to return to Bordeaux and manage the La Brède estates from my mother s prior death. Then, in 1716, my uncle, Jean Baptiste baron de Montesquieu also died, in which I received the Montesquieu barony and the position of deputy president in the Bordeaux Parliament. Eventually, I left my wife to manage the estates in Bordeaux as I returned to Paris to obtain positions in the court system of Paris and the French Academy. I decided to continue my personal education by traveling throughout Europe from 1728 until 1731. Earlier this year, a study by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) concluded that by the year 2016, trade between China and Latin America will surpass that between the Eurozone and Latin America, making China Latin America s second largest trading partner. Most studies of this partnership have focused on: a growing security dilemma, a monumental language barrier, sea disputes, a red scare (the fear that China will spread communism), and Africa China relations (where China is often referred to as a new imperialist). This paper will explore the motivations and strategies that are shaping China s engagements in Latin America. I will focus, first, on China s resource extraction strategies in Latin America and, second, the implications of these strategies for the two regions. The paper will argue that China s goal in Latin America is first and foremost, to secure sufficient resources to meet the needs of its population and to secure its continuing economic growth, and look at considerable strategies China has to achieve this. It is also clear that China is using its economic, political, and military power to influence other developing countries, especially on sensitive issues like Taiwanese independence. Unfortunately, the factories owned the newspapers so they wouldn t publish her position on the subject, so she made her own form of publicity by forming a march of children and parents. (Josephson).
