Similarities Between Sonnets Of The Portuguese And The...
The profession and art of love is a timeless study yet differs according to time and textual features
employed. Composers select particular form to best express their ideas on issues such as love and
emotion, inherently influenced by their own context. Sonnets of the Portuguese by Elizabeth Barret
Browning (EBB) were initially private, personal reflections, a poetic documentation of her courtship
with Robert Browning during the Victorian period. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a longer
text where characters are strongly developed, falsely striving to live and accomplish the American
Dream. Love is deliberately portrayed by each composer to reflect their varying contexts, opinions
and forms.

Sonnet XXVII recalls EBB s first meeting with Browning and his love letters, reflecting the
Romanticism of the period. The form enables a play on openly creating poetry and publicising the
intimacy of love. EBB conveys this intimacy, as if flicking through letters. Lying at my heart that beat
too fast emphasises confidence in love and excitement at the prospect of being in love, having
someone love her. The sonnet references the letters he wrote to her; one asked to be friends, another to
set a date in spring to visit and one that cannot be revealed. I dared repeat at last conveys her undaring
nature to repeat his intimate words, she is worried they will tarnish her reputation yet feels exhilarated.
The sonnet emphasises a paradox, light paper carries words implicating her life. The sonnet form
requires formal education, reflected through the letters Robert writes. Victorian realism in response to
Romanticism idealism is a reassertion of earlier enlightened thinking, the power of reason and rational
thinking influencing the love she

Clinical Personality Analysis
Two important personality traits for clinical psychologist include agreeableness and extraversion;
focusing especially on the traits of altruism, cooperation, and assertiveness. Clinical psychologists
need to work well with others. They also need to be able to take charge of a situation. People who are
working in a job where they are helping people every day, such as clinical psychologist, should find
enjoyment in helping others. Conscientiousness, and all its facets, are important for this professional
position. Being organized, detail oriented, and achievement seeking are all important factors to be
successful. 1. I feel like, for the most part, the questionnaire did a good job at describing me. It nailed
certain aspects I m low in extraversion. I m friendly and I warm up to people, but I also tend to just do
my own thing. I do not typically reach out to people first, but I always try to be friendly to people who
reach out to me. I agree that I m lower on neuroticism I tend to be laid back. The one thing my high
school teachers always told me is that I cope with/handle stress well (I also think this ... Show more

probably look elsewhere anyway (Honestly, I would probably be happy they did not take me

and something I m passionate about, so I would not let that stop me. I am low on extraversion, yet all
my jobs so far have been positions where I interact with the public. I even feel that I do well at them 4
years guarding and the regular members are more like family and friends. I ve also gotten high ratings
at my customer service job. People cannot judge how successful an applicant will be in the position
based on one personality assessment. I stand by my opinion in the future I will not let something as
simple as a personality test keep me from pursuing my dream

Effects Of Technology On The Economy Of The Country
Imagine a warm summer s day out in the country. No work, no distractions, just you and your friends
sipping wine, eating great food, and having even better conversation. This has become a popular
fantasy in Missouri, which is one of the many reasons why wineries in the state are popping up left
and right. With such a growing business industry there are many effects on the economy of having
wineries. In a world of technology, it is nice to be able to put the phone or laptop away and answer to
no one for a few hours. Being able to put technology aside allows for the relaxing time so many
people want to add to their lives. For those who live in the rural areas where wineries are being built,
it is a bit more challenging to live a relaxing life. The struggle to find jobs in a small town that is not
near much of anything becomes much easier when wineries offer a variety of jobs and grants rural
citizens the ability to find the relaxation they are looking for. With the hustle of everyday life, people
want to have a place they can go to unwind. Wineries are an amazing option for peace and tranquility.
Most wineries grow their own grapes and ferment their own wine on site. With the business side of
wine companies in the same location as the winery, many people get first hand experience of how
wine is produced. Now, to have the manufacturing side of wine companies in the same location as the
winery, there must also be an abundance of land. The good thing is that since Missouri is

How Did Sir Humphry Davy Contribute To Chemistry
Sir Humphy Davy had many essential contributions to the study of chemistry and the periodic table of
elements. Sir Humphry Davy was a chemist from the late 18th and early 19th century from England.
His contributions and experiments were remarkably important to the discovery of various elements,
and his work with various gases. Sir Humphry Davy was born on December 17, 1778 and raised in
Penzance, Cornwall, England. At a young age, Davy was apprenticed to be a surgeon at 16 after he
had lost his father, and then was educated at Penzance and Truron in Cornwall for medicine. Davy was
a very intelligent child and grew to become a very successful chemist. He was first introduced to
science by a scientist by the name of Robert Dunkin, and to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Davy was accepted into the Royal Society, the oldest scientific academy for the fellowship of the the
world s most eminent scientist, (royal society). He discovered electrolysis, the interactions of electric
currents with compound, which led to the isolation of sodium and potassium. Davy also used
electrochemistry to isolate the elements of the alkaline earth metals: boron, barium, strontium,
magnesium, and calcium. Davy was able to isolate the alkaline earth metals by using using batteries
made out of voltaic pile, and using the electric charge to separate the elements from their compounds.
His concept of electrolytic apparatus was he connected the battery to metallic disks that were dipped
into a liquid of the compound that he wanted separate (1, Kenyon). Davy alloyed the compound with
mercury so the water itself was not separated, and was able to produce with a current, small clumps of
the alkaline earth metals.(1, Kenyon) He also discovered boron, hydrogen telluride, and hydrogen
phosphide (phosphine)(Gibbs). He also worked with chlorine to prove that Lavoisier s theory that all
acids contained oxygen, but failed to due so because he did not know that chlorine was actually a
chemical element. Davy was a majorly important to the isolation of multiple elements on the periodic

Metapsychologism In The Philosophy Of Logic Essay
Metapsychologism In The Philosophy Of Logic
ABSTRACT: The problem of psychologism in the philosophy of logic and the different solutions of
this problem are considered. Both traditional psychologistic and antipsychologistic solutions are
shown to be untenable and the need for a new solution is demonstrated. The original program of
metapsychologism is advanced as a solution to the problem of psychologism based on deduction
search theory. Two formalized levels of a logical procedure are distinguished: 1) an object level at
which a notion of inference is formalized; 2) a metalevel at which principles of deduction search are
formalized, and a thesis of metapsychologism according to which metalevel processes are formulated.

It is a question about logic and in this sense a question external to logic. This is important to mention
from the very beginning in order to stress that the changes in the solutions of the problem of
psychologism do not influence directly to the solutions of the purely logical tasks. The solution of the
problem of psychologism as a problem of philosophy of logic is motivated partly by the developments
taking place in logic itself and partly by philosophical considerations. (1)
Usually this problem is treated as a question about the relation between logic, on the one side, and
thought or mental processes, on the other side. Thus to understand this question we would need to
answer two other questions: What is logic? What is thought? But neither of these questions is easily
answered in a general form. (2) For the time being, by the term logic , I will understand classical first
order predicate calculus, (3) and by the term thought , the reasoning of a cognitive subject when he
tries to solve a problem of an arbitrary nature without using any formal logical means. Thought , then,
is reasoning carried on without the conscious application of formalized logical laws and rules of
inference. This is still not a very precise understanding of thought, but for the present it is sufficient
for a formulation of the

How Is It Smart To Stay Out Of War
Patience creates power and wealth. By staying out of the war, the U.S. had time to develop it s army
and they re game plan. In my opinion the U.S. was smart to stay out of the war to figure out who their
allies were and so they had every soldier healthy and ready for war. The U.S. tries to stay out of the
war. Germany,Italy, and Japan had not yet declared war on the U.S.. Therefore they had nobody
threatening them, nor did they have a reason to waste money on war. We are also slowly exiting the
Great Depression at this time. And if we joined the war we would have some major problems to deal
with. Plus war costs a lot of money and time. The stress between war, money, time, and the great

Dental Implant Informative Speech
What You Should Know About Getting A Dental Implant For Your Teen
If your teen loses a front tooth participating in sports or playing around, he or she will want to replace
it as soon as possible since teens are usually self conscious about their appearance. The best way to
replace a missing tooth is with a dental implant. However, your teen may have to wait for this
procedure until growth of the skull and jaw stops. Here are a few things to know about teens and
dental implants.
Why Dental Implants Are Best
A dental implant is a good choice for your teen because it helps prevent bone loss. Losing a tooth at
any age is a bad situation, but it is especially unfortunate for a teen with a long life ahead. An implant
stimulates the bone so no loss occurs that could affect the smile or facial appearance. Plus, an implant
lasts a lifetime. While the crown portion may chip or crack, the implant is deep in the bone so it is
strong and protected. Having an implant is about as good as having a natural tooth, since your teen
will be able to chew normally, and the tooth surface looks like normal enamel.
When Teens Are Ready For Implants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s necessary for the jaw to stop growing first. The age this happens varies from child to child. It is
usually in the late teens, but your dentist will make the determination through x rays and other tests. It
s necessary to wait because implants won t grow along with your child s jaw like a normal tooth does.
A real tooth connects to the bone with a ligament. Because of this, real teeth shift in place and change
their alignment as the jaw grows. This is also why teeth can be adjusted with braces. An implant
actually fuses with the bone, so it stays firmly in place. If an implant is put in too early, the tooth may
jut out by the time your child is an adult. That would affect his or her appearance in a negative way,
and may require expensive dental work to

Anti Epilepsy Research Paper
Epilepsy is a chronic neurologic disorder characterized by recurrent seizures, brought on by excessive
excitability of neurons in the brain. A seizure is divided into two broad categories: partial and
generalized. Symptoms can range from brief periods of unconsciousness to violent convulsions.
Epilepsy is initiated by synchronous, high frequency discharge from a group of hyperexcitable
neurons called a focus. A focus may result from several causes, including congenital defects, hypoxia
at birth, head trauma, brain infection, stroke, cancer, and genetic disorders. The Anti epileptic drugs
can suppress mania and/or depression and stabilize mood in a patient with BPD. Drugs including,

Suppression of Calcium influx: In the axon terminal influx of calcium through voltage gated calcium
channels promotes transmitter release; hence, drugs that block these calcium channels can suppress
transmission. Several AEDs calcium channels can suppress transmission. Several AEDs including
valproic acid and ethosuximide, act by this mechanism. 3. Promotion of potassium influx: Drug
(ezogabine ) act on voltage gates potassium channels to facilitate potassium influx. underlie the drug s
ability to slow repetitive neuronal firing thereby provide seizure control
4. Antagonism of Glutamate: is the primary excitatory transmitter in the CNS. This work through two
receptors NMDA receptors (N menthel D aspartate receptors) and AMPA receptors (Apha_amino 3
hydroxy 5 methyl_4 isoxazole propionic acidrereceptors), This action suppress neuronal excitation
5. Potentiation of GABA: AEDs potentiate the action of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter that is
widely distributed through the brain. by augmenting the action of GABA, these drugs decrease
neuronal excitability, thus suppress seizure activity
The drugs produce side effects in most people, but there is a lack of evidence for most of the drugs in
most types of neuropathic pain and fibromyalgia. Drugs such as lacosamide, lamotrigine,
carbamazepam, clonazepam, phynytam have shown at least 50% pain intensity reduction over

Organic Vs. Conventional Farming
Organic farming, a new and upcoming industry is booming, however people are beginning to
scrutinize the price of organic and naturally grown food and the validity of it s value to health.
Consumers paying the lofty price for their organic food contend it is saving them trips to the doctor
and protecting them from the countless stacks of future hospital bills with regard to poor health.
Consequently, to all the other people still buying into the cancer causing products produced by
conventional farming known worldwide as healthy food, are beginning to be influence by the organic
hype prompting this population to become more aware of how harmful these conventional products
are to our health. Unfortunately, the expense of organic food will continue to dissuade people away
from buying them. The issues that formulate the ongoing debate over organic versus conventional
farming are safety, price and production. Organic and locally grown foods are becoming such an
increasingly popular way of life in many different parts of the world, so much so, that some countries
such as Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, Greece etc. have completely eliminated the use of unnatural things
to produce their food such as genetically modified organisms (GMO s), chemicals, and spraying
fertilizers on their crops to clean them. The people of these countries have identified how harmful
these defective products are to the environment and more importantly, their bodies. Farmers who use

Becoming Transgender In The United States
n these past few years we have seen a great deal of change in the United States. From the legalization
of gay marriage, and or the legalization of marijuana. These are things that people in the past would
think are things that should not be legalized but times change. Lately, many people not in conform
with their biological gender have been becoming the opposite sex, a transgender. Some of the most
recent well known cases of becoming transgender have to be Bruce Jenner and Rodrigo Heng song of
republican senator, Ileana Ros Lehtinen. All this talk brings up the question of whether sex is a

I can say this from experience because I have seen transgender people at stores, and all they do is stare
at me. It gets to the point where I just want to leave because they make me so uncomfortable. I recall
going to ,my locker about a month ago with my friend during fifth period. As we were going back to
our classroom, a girl walks by and naturally a teenage boy will look at her body. I told my friend, she
is kind of hot , to which he replied, you do know she is transgender? I was pretty much socked and
was really condues. Now I have no problem with her but what she did was uncomfortable. As she
passed between us, she was lifting her shirt and touching her but. I was uncomfortable because I tend
to see women as people who are respectful and don t do that kind of stuff. The girl did = not show any
private parts but she did make me uncomfortable. This brings me to the article, when a lawsuit in
Minnesota was placed. The transgender which is labeled, Student X , was lifting her clothes and
asking to trade body parts. Obviously this would make her peers uncomfortable. What makes it all the
,most weird, is that people consider what this girl did as something all girls do. While some girls may
dance inappropriately, I am almost positive girls don t talk about trading body

The Ethical Principles Of Respect For Autonomy
The case scenario presents Mark who has been involved in a car accident. Mark has suffered
significant internal bleeding and needs a blood transfusion immediately for his survival. This has been
clearly stated by his attending doctor. Mark is still conscious and oriented. Mark is a Jehovah s
Witness and receiving blood is against his religion. Mark signs a Refusal of Treatment document
stating his wish not to receive a blood transfusion under any circumstances. His girlfriend, Pam, wants
him to receive blood and is asking the nurse to administer blood despite Mark s refusal. This situation
presents an ethical dilemma to the health professionals involved in Mark s care. The ethical dilemma
is whether to uphold his decision not to receive the blood and therefore risk his life or give him the
blood to save his life despite knowing his religious status and beliefs. There are several ethical
principles involved in this scenario. The ethical principles of respect for Autonomy, Beneficence, Non
maleficence, Veracity and Fidelity will be discussed in the latter part of this essay. There are also legal
concepts to be considered in this scenario which are legal principles of Consent and Right to refuse
treatment which can also be addressed as the contemporary issues that is being faced by the health
practitioners these days.

on a Grecian Urn, Keats states heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter . The elements
are that tangible and noticeable are important, but it is the unseen or unnoticed elements that hold a
greater meaning. The noticeable elements, such as the people, the towns, and the material possessions
only last for a short time, so they are sweet while they last, but the unseen elements, such as love,
happiness, messages, cultures, and beliefs, are sweeter because they accompany time as it changes
from one event to the next, as they do through the urn, delivered by its art to Keats. He additionally

The time continually moves forward, no matter the order that the events are arranged in, in order to
bring the past to the present, as it did with the urn in Ode . In my opinion, I find that I support Keats
definition on the flow of time. To explain, I shall compare and contrast the two definitions. Keats
defines the process of the flow of time as a transport in order for elements from the past, such as
emotions and messages, to survive past their current time and last into the future. The flow of time
serves as a way for the people of the future, such as Keats, to be reminded of the values and beliefs of
the certain civilization or group during that time, so that the people may learn from the past and will
not forget what is important to themselves. For Price, however, the flow of time is another form of the
process where the Real Time moves from one event to the next, except that the planning of the events
extends to the future. With this in mind, I support Keats s definition, as the flow of time serves its own
purpose in the continual progression of time, just as the Real Time had its own purpose as well. The
urn survives through time to tell us nothing at all, yet the

Kafka s Hunger Art: A Study of Fictional Autobiography in A Hunger Artist In A Hunger Artist , Franz
Kafka utilizes his skill as a writer and a poet to allegorically tell the reader of his own suffering
through a tale of an artist s slavery to his craft. Kafka s own life parallels the plot and characters of
this short story in elements such as starvation, obsession, and loss of will as they are explored in the
plot of this work. Whether intentional or not, his comments on isolation, suffering, and art become a

slavery to writing. Writing became his vice for the world around him as he struggled to cope with
realties beyond his understanding: much like hunger as a vice for the artist s distaste for food. As the

died, either by hanging or while in custody. There is no one clear cut answer to explain why this
plague of accusations happened but rather several that must be examined and tied together. First, at the

A group of Indians who massacred Dover, New Hampshire and a series of towns in the same area
initiated the fighting. Many of the towns were burned to the ground and over fifty percent of their
inhabitants were killed and the rest either captured and sold into slavery or escaped into the frontier.
The survivors of these ambushes had endured the sights of extreme torture and brutal murder. After
events like this many of these that survived experienced a medical condition known as post dramatic
anxiety stress disorder. Many of the accusers in the Salem Witch Trials were war orphaned children
and adults who had settled in and around Salem to get away from the fighting and the Maine frontier.
Many of these may have been experiencing post dramatic anxiety stress disorder which may have
affected their judgment in the cases they brought against those that they accused.
In order for a witch to have been put to trial, someone had to have accused them of being a witch and
must have had some sort of evidence to explain their accusation, whether it was spectral or concrete.
Most of the evidence brought against the accused was indeed spectral and usually consisted of the
witch somehow causing harm to the victim and the victim later accusing whomever they saw
victimizing them. One victim, Stephen Bittford credited witchcraft for his paralysis and neck pain. In
recent years, the combination of these two symptoms has been attributed to a disease

Utilitarianism In The Movie Matrix
In the movie Matrix, people live in a virtual world composed of happiness although delusional, and
are not conscious of this fact. Their daily lives are carried on oblivious to the painful, decrepit, and
depressing conditions of reality. There exist two different sides to this predicament. In a utilitarianist s
perspective, this condition is understandable because ultimately, overall happiness is higher compared
to an otherwise situation. However, in a realist s point of view, it would seem that anything achieved
in a false world will always be false, therefore humans should achieve real things that matter. Ever
since the 17th century, utilitarianism and many more political ideals like it, started becoming popular,
and rightfully so as the world grew unbalanced economically due to expansionism. Utilitarianism is
used precisely for achieving overall happiness in a society and does so without regards to how it is
achieved. Specifically, to achieve the greatest
Kim 2 amount of happiness to the greatest amount of people. An example of act utilitarianism would
be in a situation in which a single man is permitted to die in order to save three. Upsides to
utilitarianism is, when applied to a society, it causes them to become less selfish and understand that
everyone lives in the pursuit of happiness. Anything that may cause unhappiness is commonly refused.
Therefore, many of the problems that exist right now due to selfish causes as well as economic
imbalance will be

Violence And Its Effect On Society
Introduction The presence of violence is all around us; embedded in our everyday lives. Such acts may
be masked and subtle; while others are exposed and evident. One thing, however, is certain, a single
act of violence creates a rippling effect of repercussions. The use of violence can often leave much
longer lasting residues of violence which return again in the future (Brand Jacobsen, 2005, p. 12). This
cycle of malice and destruction must end. Thus, where does one begin to initiate change? Awareness is
key in the stand against violence. For I cannot solve the problem if I am incognizant of it preying in
plain sight. Moreover, claims of ignorance and partial justification are not acceptable excuses to
dismiss or ignore the veracity of violence among us. I believe just as violence can propagate from one
act, so can acts of peace. Reflection I am guilty of turning a blind eye in the face of violence
(structural and cultural). I have walked away and dismissed it in my mind because to acknowledge it
makes it real. And once it becomes real, I have to do something about it. By nature, I am a very
anxious person. As such, I am uncomfortable with uncharted waters and conflict. I do not instigate or
involve myself in conflict to keep my stress level at a minimum. Therefore, I adamantly avoid
situations with a propensity for violence at all costs. Until this class, I was uninformed of the various
forms of violence with the exception of direct violence. However, I believe the

Labor Unions Benefits
The labor union efforts in the United States cultivated out of the requirement to safeguard the
collective interest of the common workers (History.com, 2009). In the industrial sectors, organized
labor unions battled for improved wages, practical hours, and safer working conditions; these
movements led to beneficial efforts to end child labor, give health benefits, and offer assistance to
workers who were injured or retired (History.com, 2009). Their origins lay in the developmental years
of the U.S., when a free wage labor market emerged in the craft worker trades late in the colonial
period. The earliest recorded strike occurred in 1768 in New York to protested a wage reduction, this
lead to the formation of the Federal Society of Journeymen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some economics have contended that globalization is making labor unions ability to demand the level
of compensation that their workers deserve harder because of the threat of outsourcing and the
competition from foreign production (Nahmias, 2013). In some studies, it was found that globalization
has considerably decreased the effects of labor union strength on labor share and employment rates
(Nahmias, 2013). Also, while there is some indication that globalization is diminishing the ability of
labor unions to mandate greater employment protection, there is some signs that unions are working
persistently to protect their members from unemployment through legislative regulation (Nahmias,
2013). Even though globalization has changed the factors of production, caused a decline in labor s
bargaining power, and weakened the unions; labor unions have not surrendered and continue to fight

The Hero s Journey By Joseph Campbell
THESIS
The main points of the hero s journey by Joseph Campbell is the basis of most stories throughout
history, Divergent and The Epic of Gilgamesh being prime examples.
PURPOSE
These stories follow the format of the hero s journey because it shadows the steps that Campbell
explained. In his study of world hero myths Campbell discovered that they are all basically the same
story retold endlessly in infinite variations (Vogler). Campbell s idea of this journey that all heroes
complete is present in the duration of most stories that have been told throughout history and in
modern day works today.
INTRODUCTION
Throughout these stories the steps of the Hero s Journey are found to move the story along. Beatrice
and Gilgamesh were both called to fulfill their destiny becoming the heroes of their own stories,
fighting for what they thought was right, and bringing their society into a position of security. Society
today is using this method with or without trying making this route able to touch the author in a more
personal way, his archetypal development of characters and the exposition of a portion of his own
personal Hero s Journey illustrated through the protagonist s Hero s Journey. (Dingman). The author
can bring his own our eyes into the story not realizing that they re lives are also journeys that they
have yet to discover.
Joseph Campbell s hero s journey consists of three major parts: the Departure, Initiation, and Return.

Being expression one of the most important rights of the people to maintain a connected society right

individuals have. It is fundamental to the existence of democracy and the respect of human dignity.
This amendment describes the principal rights of the citizens of the United States. If the citizens were
unable to criticize the government, it would be impossible to regulate order. By looking freedom of

The people will be submitted to a dictatorship. That s why freedom of speech is so important because
is the main and the introductory part to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. The founding fathers
wrote this right to make sure that United States will be a different country, a better country where
everyone could understand each other and that what happened to them (British government) will not
happen ever again. In a democratic government also depends on freedom of press and freedom of
assembly. Freedom of press is the occurrences that happen every day that are informed or detailed
through television, newspaper, internet, magazines or speech without adding or removing any type of
information that do not benefit a particular sector. And also is that the people have the right to have
their own type of press to express their ideas. Today, freedom of press is a utopia because every
country has their own secrets, and covers important information to their citizens. With freedom of
press, the countries will have a perfect government not so perfect but the people need to know the
truth. The democratic government is a form of government in which the people, either directly or
indirectly, take part in governing. Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those
others that have been tried. This is because there is no system that can perfectly order society. Usually

Chapter 3 Summary, Ways of Seeing Essay
In Chapter 3 of his book, Ways of Seeing , John Berger argues that in western nude art and present day
media, that women are largely shown and treated as objects upon whom power is asserted by men
either as figures in the canvas or as spectators. Berger s purpose is to make readers aware of how the
perception of women in the art so that they will recognize the evolution of western cultured art. Berger
begins by claiming that in nude art the presence of a man is that of an actor who asserts his power over
women, who are presented as objects. By presence, Berger means how men are authorities over
women in these paintings. For example, in the painting, Reclining Bacchante (page 45), the women in

in the bathtub holding her hair. In the photo the women is wanting to be intoxicating and looking as if
she wants to be seen as an object of sex and also put on display her body off to the world. So, she is
giving herself up as a object willingly. In the painting, Nell Gwynne , by Lely, the women is showing
submissiveness to the painter/owner. She is also wanting to display herself for the enjoyment of men.
Even though some artists, as Berger claims, tried to resist this tradition, they couldn t overcome the
cultural tradition of female objectification that has continued to the present. These artists failed to
create a different view in culture because of the media and how the perception wouldn t change in the
eyes of men. One famous artist who tried to resist this awful trend was an artist name Rubens. In his
portrait of his second wife, the painting named Helene Fourment in a Fur Coat, he tried to portray the
same message with a different image. The image is of a women with no other clothing other than a fur

Essay on Motivations for Faustus s Rebellion
In the Faust legend, a man by the name of Faust or Faustus sells his soul to the devil for twenty four
years of ultimate worldly power. Although the tale of this German scholar/ magician called Johann
Faust or Faustus has been re told many times over, no version has become more prominent and
controversial in English literature and history than that of Christopher Marlowe s play first published
eleven years after his death in 1604. Marlowe s reworking is possibly the first dramatization of the
medieval myth of a man who sold his soul to the Devil, and who became identified with a
necromancer of the sixteenth century. Written in a time of religious uncertainty and social upheaval,

Marlowe used many conventions of the medieval morality play, a popular form which uses a variety
of allegory and narrates the gradual education of its hero into an understanding of the difference
between essentially right and wrong. He modified this traditional form for Doctor Faustus and fitted it
to the legend where conventionally the hero invariably comes to the conclusion of the play a wiser and
better man, but due to the satanic nature of Faustus s rebellion he inevitably falls to his doom and is
dragged screaming to Hell. But what were his motivations for such a seditious rebellion with
inevitably disastrous consequences? Was he just bored and wanted more of a challenge so cast aside
any previous knowledge of religious consequences when intellectual and supernatural supremacy is

Essay Summary of Thoreau
Synopsis Economy: This is the first chapter and also the longest by far. Thoreau begins by outlining
his project: a two year and two month stay at a crude cabin in the woods near Walden Pond. He does
this, he says, in order to illustrate the spiritual benefits of a simplified lifestyle. He easily supplies the
four necessities of life (food, shelter, clothing, and fuel). He meticulously records his expenditures and
earnings, demonstrating his understanding of economy, as he builds his house and buys and grows
food. For a home and freedom, he spends a mere $25. Complementary Verses: This chapter consists
entirely of a poem, The Pretensions of Poverty, by seventeenth century English poet Thomas Carew.

To him, the railroad symbolizes the destruction of the good old pastoral way of life. Following is a
description of the sounds audible from his cabin: the church bells ringing, carriages rattling and
rumbling, cows lowing, whip poor wills singing, owls hooting, frogs croaking, and cockerels crowing.
Solitude: Thoreau rhapsodizes about the beneficial effects of living solitary and close to nature. He
loves to be alone, for I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude, and he is
never lonely as long as he is close to nature. He believes there is no great value to be had by rubbing
shoulders with the mass of humanity. Visitors: Thoreau writes about the visitors to his cabin. Among
the 25 or 30 visitors is a young Canadian woodchopper, whom Thoreau idealizes as approaching the
ideal man, and a runaway slave, whom Thoreau helps on his journey to freedom in Canada. The Bean
Field: Thoreau relates his efforts to cultivate two and a half acres of beans. He plants in June and
spends his summer mornings weeding the field with a hoe. He sells most of the crop, and his small
profit of $8.71 covers his needs. The Village: Thoreau visits the small town of Concord every day or
two to hear the news, which he finds as refreshing in its way as the rustle of the leaves. Nevertheless,
he fondly but rather contemptuously compares Concord to a gopher colony. In late summer, he is

Socrates View Of Love Essays
A Different View of Love
We have heard definitions of love through our lives that have been passed on for decades. Some of us
have felt love, and some of us have been in love. But no one ever seems to question what love is, as if
it is something that just plainly is.
People tend to just go with it, and think that what they are feeling is really complete and substantial
love. In Plato s The Symposium, the reader is confronted with some very different views of love as
brought to us by Agathon, Phaedrus and
Socrates, to name a few. Each man at the dinner party has a different point of view on the issue of
love. Some of the men are old lovers, and some are just friends, and each puts in his thoughts of love
as the evening wears on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What we don t think of when we hear a statement like that is that in the future we may not experience
what we did in the past. Having something, and loving it makes us feel like it will always be there for
us and that we will have it at all times. Socrates believes that even if you have all you want at the
present time, that in the future you will want it as well. He says this to Agathon, You already have
riches and health and strength in your possession, my man; what you want is to posses these things in
time to come, since in the present, whether you want to or not, you have them. (42). Socrates is
seeming to disprove the age old philosophy of, we want what we cannot have because of that very
reason we cannot have it. And once it is attainable it does not look so golden anymore.
Socrates says that once we have something good we will always want it because it is beautiful. And if
it is beautiful and good then it must be love, because all things that possess those two qualities have
got to be love.
This is where I see the problems in Socrates arguments. His explanations of love are in themselves
correct and reasonable, but they get unclear as he goes on. By saying that a man who is strong will
still want to be strong in his later life, and someone who is rich will still want to be rich he is correct

54% of the land is forestry and wetlands. Only 18% is residential, 1% commercial, 1 public area, and
the rest is mainly 3% cropland and 4% pasture. There are no public transportation or bike lanes within

Team development
Derek Fullerton, RS/REHS,CHO
Director of Public Health healthdirector@townofmiddleton.org 978 777 1869
The public health director would be an excellent person to have on the committee team, because the
director would know of current issues within the town that relate to public health. They would have
the training on health impact assessments, and they would be able to consider both environmental and
social determinant factors when discussing the public health for the town.
Traci Mello, RN, BSN
Public Health Nurse phn@townofmiddleton.org 978 777 1869
The public health nurse has the extra medical training and understanding of human health that would
bring a more clinical aspect to the committee team. It makes sense to ask this person the chronic
health issues and what choices would help improve the quality of life for the citizens. Mello worked
on the Hiking for Health History of Middleton brochure that promoted hiking and walking to improve
health.
Susan J Gannon
Executive Director of the Council of Aging

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a longer text where characters are strongly developed, falsely striving to live and accomplish the American Dream. Love is deliberately portrayed by each composer to reflect their varying contexts, opinions and forms. The desire for love can be portrayed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sonnet XXVII recalls EBB s first meeting with Browning and his love letters, reflecting the Romanticism of the period. The form enables a play on openly creating poetry and publicising the intimacy of love. EBB conveys this intimacy, as if flicking through letters. Lying at my heart that beat too fast emphasises confidence in love and excitement at the prospect of being in love, having someone love her. The sonnet references the letters he wrote to her; one asked to be friends, another to set a date in spring to visit and one that cannot be revealed. I dared repeat at last conveys her undaring nature to repeat his intimate words, she is worried they will tarnish her reputation yet feels exhilarated. The sonnet emphasises a paradox, light paper carries words implicating her life. The sonnet form requires formal education, reflected through the letters Robert writes. Victorian realism in response to Romanticism idealism is a reassertion of earlier enlightened thinking, the power of reason and rational thinking influencing the love she ... • 4. Effects Of Technology On The Economy Of The Country Imagine a warm summer s day out in the country. No work, no distractions, just you and your friends sipping wine, eating great food, and having even better conversation. This has become a popular fantasy in Missouri, which is one of the many reasons why wineries in the state are popping up left and right. With such a growing business industry there are many effects on the economy of having wineries. In a world of technology, it is nice to be able to put the phone or laptop away and answer to no one for a few hours. Being able to put technology aside allows for the relaxing time so many people want to add to their lives. For those who live in the rural areas where wineries are being built, it is a bit more challenging to live a relaxing life. The struggle to find jobs in a small town that is not near much of anything becomes much easier when wineries offer a variety of jobs and grants rural citizens the ability to find the relaxation they are looking for. With the hustle of everyday life, people want to have a place they can go to unwind. Wineries are an amazing option for peace and tranquility. Most wineries grow their own grapes and ferment their own wine on site. With the business side of wine companies in the same location as the winery, many people get first hand experience of how wine is produced. Now, to have the manufacturing side of wine companies in the same location as the winery, there must also be an abundance of land. The good thing is that since Missouri is ... Davy was able to isolate the alkaline earth metals by using using batteries made out of voltaic pile, and using the electric charge to separate the elements from their compounds. His concept of electrolytic apparatus was he connected the battery to metallic disks that were dipped into a liquid of the compound that he wanted separate (1, Kenyon). Metapsychologism In The Philosophy Of Logic Essay Metapsychologism In The Philosophy Of Logic ABSTRACT: The problem of psychologism in the philosophy of logic and the different solutions of this problem are considered. Both traditional psychologistic and antipsychologistic solutions are shown to be untenable and the need for a new solution is demonstrated. The original program of metapsychologism is advanced as a solution to the problem of psychologism based on deduction search theory. Two formalized levels of a logical procedure are distinguished: 1) an object level at which a notion of inference is formalized; 2) a metalevel at which principles of deduction search are formalized, and a thesis of metapsychologism according to which metalevel processes are formulated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a question about logic and in this sense a question external to logic. This is important to mention from the very beginning in order to stress that the changes in the solutions of the problem of psychologism do not influence directly to the solutions of the purely logical tasks. The solution of the problem of psychologism as a problem of philosophy of logic is motivated partly by the developments taking place in logic itself and partly by philosophical considerations. (1) Usually this problem is treated as a question about the relation between logic, on the one side, and thought or mental processes, on the other side. Thus to understand this question we would need to answer two other questions: What is logic? What is thought? But neither of these questions is easily answered in a general form. (2) For the time being, by the term logic , I will understand classical first order predicate calculus, (3) and by the term thought , the reasoning of a cognitive subject when he tries to solve a problem of an arbitrary nature without using any formal logical means. Thought , then, is reasoning carried on without the conscious application of formalized logical laws and rules of inference. This is still not a very precise understanding of thought, but for the present it is sufficient for a formulation of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dental Implant Informative Speech What You Should Know About Getting A Dental Implant For Your Teen If your teen loses a front tooth participating in sports or playing around, he or she will want to replace it as soon as possible since teens are usually self conscious about their appearance. The best way to replace a missing tooth is with a dental implant. However, your teen may have to wait for this procedure until growth of the skull and jaw stops. Here are a few things to know about teens and dental implants. Why Dental Implants Are Best A dental implant is a good choice for your teen because it helps prevent bone loss. Losing a tooth at any age is a bad situation, but it is especially unfortunate for a teen with a long life ahead. An implant stimulates the bone so no loss occurs that could affect the smile or facial appearance. Plus, an implant lasts a lifetime. While the crown portion may chip or crack, the implant is deep in the bone so it is strong and protected. Having an implant is about as good as having a natural tooth, since your teen will be able to chew normally, and the tooth surface looks like normal enamel. When Teens Are Ready For Implants ... Because of this, real teeth shift in place and change their alignment as the jaw grows. This is also why teeth can be adjusted with braces. An implant actually fuses with the bone, so it stays firmly in place. If an implant is put in too early, the tooth may jut out by the time your child is an adult. Keats defines the process of the flow of time as a transport in order for elements from the past, such as emotions and messages, to survive past their current time and last into the future. The flow of time serves as a way for the people of the future, such as Keats, to be reminded of the values and beliefs of the certain civilization or group during that time, so that the people may learn from the past and will not forget what is important to themselves. For Price, however, the flow of time is another form of the process where the Real Time moves from one event to the next, except that the planning of the events extends to the future. • 23. Violence And Its Effect On Society Introduction The presence of violence is all around us; embedded in our everyday lives. Such acts may be masked and subtle; while others are exposed and evident. One thing, however, is certain, a single act of violence creates a rippling effect of repercussions. The use of violence can often leave much longer lasting residues of violence which return again in the future (Brand Jacobsen, 2005, p. 12). This cycle of malice and destruction must end. Thus, where does one begin to initiate change? Awareness is key in the stand against violence. For I cannot solve the problem if I am incognizant of it preying in plain sight. Moreover, claims of ignorance and partial justification are not acceptable excuses to dismiss or ignore the veracity of violence among us. I believe just as violence can propagate from one act, so can acts of peace. Reflection I am guilty of turning a blind eye in the face of violence (structural and cultural). I have walked away and dismissed it in my mind because to acknowledge it makes it real. And once it becomes real, I have to do something about it. By nature, I am a very anxious person. As such, I am uncomfortable with uncharted waters and conflict. I do not instigate or involve myself in conflict to keep my stress level at a minimum. Therefore, I adamantly avoid situations with a propensity for violence at all costs. Until this class, I was uninformed of the various forms of violence with the exception of direct violence. However, I believe the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the industrial sectors, organized labor unions battled for improved wages, practical hours, and safer working conditions; these movements led to beneficial efforts to end child labor, give health benefits, and offer assistance to workers who were injured or retired (History.com, 2009). Their origins lay in the developmental years of the U.S., when a free wage labor market emerged in the craft worker trades late in the colonial period. Some economics have contended that globalization is making labor unions ability to demand the level of compensation that their workers deserve harder because of the threat of outsourcing and the competition from foreign production (Nahmias, 2013). Also, while there is some indication that globalization is diminishing the ability of labor unions to mandate greater employment protection, there is some signs that unions are working persistently to protect their members from unemployment through legislative regulation (Nahmias, 2013). Even though globalization has changed the factors of production, caused a decline in labor s bargaining power, and weakened the unions; labor unions have not surrendered and continue to fight for their members (Nahmias, ... • 25. The Hero s Journey By Joseph Campbell THESIS The main points of the hero s journey by Joseph Campbell is the basis of most stories throughout history, Divergent and The Epic of Gilgamesh being prime examples. PURPOSE These stories follow the format of the hero s journey because it shadows the steps that Campbell explained. In his study of world hero myths Campbell discovered that they are all basically the same story retold endlessly in infinite variations (Vogler). Campbell s idea of this journey that all heroes complete is present in the duration of most stories that have been told throughout history and in modern day works today. INTRODUCTION Throughout these stories the steps of the Hero s Journey are found to move the story along. Beatrice and Gilgamesh were both called to fulfill their destiny becoming the heroes of their own stories, fighting for what they thought was right, and bringing their society into a position of security. Society today is using this method with or without trying making this route able to touch the author in a more personal way, his archetypal development of characters and the exposition of a portion of his own personal Hero s Journey illustrated through the protagonist s Hero s Journey. Berger s purpose is to make readers aware of how the perception of women in the art so that they will recognize the evolution of western cultured art. Berger begins by claiming that in nude art the presence of a man is that of an actor who asserts his power over women, who are presented as objects. Thoreau begins by outlining his project: a two year and two month stay at a crude cabin in the woods near Walden Pond. He does this, he says, in order to illustrate the spiritual benefits of a simplified lifestyle. He easily supplies the four necessities of life (food, shelter, clothing, and fuel). He meticulously records his expenditures and earnings, demonstrating his understanding of economy, as he builds his house and buys and grows food. For a home and freedom, he spends a mere $25. Solitude: Thoreau rhapsodizes about the beneficial effects of living solitary and close to nature. He loves to be alone, for I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude, and he is never lonely as long as he is close to nature. He believes there is no great value to be had by rubbing shoulders with the mass of humanity. Visitors: Thoreau writes about the visitors to his cabin. Among the 25 or 30 visitors is a young Canadian woodchopper, whom Thoreau idealizes as approaching the ideal man, and a runaway slave, whom Thoreau helps on his journey to freedom in Canada. The Bean Field: Thoreau relates his efforts to cultivate two and a half acres of beans. He plants in June and spends his summer mornings weeding the field with a hoe. He sells most of the crop, and his small profit of $8.71 covers his needs. The Village: Thoreau visits the small town of Concord every day or two to hear the news, which he finds as refreshing in its way as the rustle of the leaves. People tend to just go with it, and think that what they are feeling is really complete and substantial love. In Plato s The Symposium, the reader is confronted with some very different views of love as brought to us by Agathon, Phaedrus and Socrates, to name a few. Having something, and loving it makes us feel like it will always be there for us and that we will have it at all times. Socrates believes that even if you have all you want at the present time, that in the future you will want it as well. He says this to Agathon, You already have riches and health and strength in your possession, my man; what you want is to posses these things in time to come, since in the present, whether you want to or not, you have them. (42). Socrates is seeming to disprove the age old philosophy of, we want what we cannot have because of that very reason we cannot have it. And once it is attainable it does not look so golden anymore. Socrates says that once we have something good we will always want it because it is beautiful. And if it is beautiful and good then it must be love, because all things that possess those two qualities have got to be love. This is where I see the problems in Socrates arguments. His explanations of love are in themselves correct and reasonable, but they get unclear as he goes on.
