Detroit Art History
Detroit Institute of Art is located at 5200 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI. The website is
https://www.dia.org/. At this museum, there is a lot of Detroit and American history and also a lot of
paintings from the 18 and 1900s. The website has over 6,000 pieces that are located on the site. Some
of these can t be viewed but they still give you the history on the piece. One of the pieces that stood
out to me was the Egyptian mummuy. That piece is a very ancient piece, but the detailing of the art
interest me the most. I can just imagine the time and effort that was put into it. One of the current
expeditions is based off Detroit s music, mainly the hip hop aspect. It goes into the depths of not only
the music as the performer but behind the scenes. It informs you on how the Detroit music was over
shadowed by other states, but with one of the local Detroit movies, it helped the music side of things,
see the light again. The website does provide useful information. ... Show more content on

Reflection Of The Woman Warrior
In 1976 Maxine Hong Kingston won the National Book Critics Circle Award for the best work of non
fiction for her book The Woman Warrior: Memories of a Girlhood among Ghosts, a novel built up
from a collection of stories that draw on from Chinese folklore and myth intertwined with her own life
s experiences and episodes from her and other female family members life. While labelled as an
autobiography, American readers enthusiastically welcomed it as work of fiction that deals with the
exotic, mysterious and unfathomable China. This illustrates the why and wherefores of the many
readings that this work has originated since its publication. The lack of adherence to one genre,
especially autobiography, presents one of the central issues of how ... Show more content on

Turning to Jung, one finds that myths are shared by all members of a community and by extension, all
humankind, although their true meaning can only be attained within the individual psyche, their
workings are strictly personal, being instrumental in the eternal quest towards self realization. Under
this point of view, the reinterpretation of the Chinese folktales signifies to Kingston the construction
not only of her own speech but also of the structure for understanding her Chinese American identity;
in Kingston s words: myth have to change, be useful or forgotten. Like people who carry them across
oceans, myths become American.... I take the power I need from whatever myth (quoted in Grice,

The Environmental Protection Of A Natural Gas Star Program
Introduction
As natural gas use continues to increase in the U.S. and throughout the world, new markets,
technologies and infrastructure have enabled companies to capitalize on the advantages delivered by
this non toxic, non corrosive and relatively clean burning fossil fuel.
With the increased focus on the benefits of LNG, however, global regulatory bodies and
environmentalist groups are also increasingly focused on the impact of natural gas extraction and
utilization. The hazardous effects of fugitive methane emissions are an ongoing source of scrutiny,
with LNG producers and standards committees both acutely aware of the importance of mitigating the
associated risks.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency has likewise ... Show more content on

Unlike on/off valves, check valves are flow sensitive and rely on the line fluid to open and close.
Rather than offering emergency shutoff or complete flow control, check valves are intended only to
prevent reverse flow and the resultant damage to piping systems. Because of this, seat leakage rates
for check valves differ from those imposed on other valve types, and should be evaluated within the
appropriate constraints.
The industry has a large number of leak rate standards available (API 598, API 6D, MSS, BS6364,
Shell MESC SPE 77/300, ISO 5208, ANSI to name a few), and there is confusion in the industry
today about which requirements are the most appropriate to impose on check valves. This article will
review the valve industry seat leak rate standards, the purpose of each standard, and ultimately how
they relate to check valve selection and specifications. Furthermore, we will examine the purpose and
operation of check valves within LNG systems and discuss why ultra low leak rates are generally not
appropriate for check valves.
Leak Rate Specifications: Purpose and Practicality
The daily demands placed on check valves, including their constant exposure to fluid mediums, make
them highly susceptible to wear and other operational challenges like sticking, jamming and

Extraction of Metals
Extraction of metals
The History of Metals.
Metals have been used by people for many thousands of years. Gold and silver, found as native metal,
were used both as jewellery and as a status symbol nothing new there. These metals were known in
the Stone Age, but gold and silver are too soft to be used as tools.
The first really useful metal to be discovered was bronze. This began the Bronze Age. Bronze was
used extensively for tools and weapons in Asia and Africa from 4,500 B.C. (6,500 years ago) and in
Britain from 2,000 B.C. (4,000 years ago). News of the new material travelled slowly in those days
and it took the Brits 2,500 years to get the message.
Bronze is not an element (like gold and silver) but an alloy (metal mixture) of ... Show more content

The same can be said of metal extraction. Metal extraction can drastically affect the quality of air in
the surrounding areas, what with the high levels of dust and gas in the area. There s also the noise
pollution that it creates, which is affecting the natural habitat of animals. Last, metal extraction
disfigures the landscape.
Now, if companies continually extract metal, the land will forever be disfigured, causing flooding and
soil erosion in the area. It will also cause large scale natural habitat destruction, causing so many
species to be uprooted. There s also the air and water pollution to consider.
Economic Impact of Metal Extraction
It is a fact that mining, extracting, refining, and purifying metal will cost a lot of money. There are
different types of metal, and they need different methods of extraction. Now, the methods of extracting
metal do not come cheap, nor does refining and purifying metal. Not only will you need special
equipment for their extraction, but you will also need other elements as well such as copper, zinc,
mercury, among others, for the purification and refinement processes. Some of these elements are very
harmful and toxic not only to humans and animals but to nature as well, worsening the environmental
impact of metal extraction.
Aside from this, you also have to think of the transportation costs of extracted metal.

Animal Experimentation Essay
Animals suffer just as people do. In 2009 animal experimentation was the cause of over 1.13 million
animals, excluding small rodents, suffering in U.S. Laboratories (U.S. Department of Agriculture,
Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service). Animal experimentation is unethical, unnecessary and
expensive; alternative methods of testing should be utilized. It is unethical to use the cruel methods of
animal experimentation for our own benefit alone. The animals used in research range from birds,
dogs, cats, and pigs to name a few. So many innocent creatures put up with the immense pain so that
science experiments can be made and new products can be put on the shelves. Many of the animals
used in the testing and experiments are blind, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This method is used even if the product is not intended to be in contact with human skin, eyes, or
mouth ( Animals in Product Testing. 2011). The Draize test causes severe pain, itching, burning and
often death. The LD 50 (lethal dose 50 percent) test is used to measure toxicity levels of certain
ingredients. The ingredient is either injected into the animal or the animal is forced to ingest the
product. The amount or concentration of the substance will kill at least half of the group within a
specific time frame; the animals will suffer acute distress, pain, convulsions, discharge, diarrhea and
bleeding from the eyes and mouth. The subjects that do not die from the initial dosage are killed to test
their internal organs for damage ( Animals in Product Testing. 2011). Animals are put through extreme
pain and unnecessary measures for animal testing and experimentation. It is cruel and unethical to
cause so much physical harm to another living being. Apart from being cruel and harmful to animals,
animal experimentation is also costly. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services, it cost over 1 million dollars to fund each testing facility for one year. One of the largest
sources of funding comes from the publicly funded government granting agency, the U.S. National
Institutes of Health ( Animal Experiments: Overview. 2011). Approximately 40 percent of the

Aging Out Movie Analysis
In the documentary Aging Out directed by Roger Weisber, it is noticeable how these three teenagers
(Risa, David, and Danielle) were trying to get out of the Foster Care System and become independent
adults. However, each one of them struggled with their task of becoming an independent person. I will
provide you with one of the sociological paradigms that I believe is strong within the documentary.
Structural Functionalism Theory, which attempts to focus on the relationship between social
institutions that are made up by society. The documentary gives perfect examples of Functionalism
because we can notice that those teenagers have all received criticisms from all adults who are in their
lives. Criticism is a big contributor to social change (which they experienced) because people use
repetitive behavior since they only do what they have applied it, to overcome problems in the foster
system, all they have accumulated from criticisms and see no way to better themselves. Nonetheless,
one big contributor to the way these teenagers have felt with trying to enter into society is a
sociological institute, which makes them meet social needs, for example the government, it tries
maintain stability and contribute to the well being, and be a society as an integrated whole. All three
teenagers were in foster care and in order for them to do good in society they need to follow rules and
be a certain way to succeed in the real world (society). Therefore, navigating from teenage

s involvement with the Shah, Behrani is presented to the reader as the quintessential immigrant and
refugee. He and his family move to San Francisco, California in order to start a new life. With very
little money compared to what they were accustomed to, Behrani and his family reside in a relatively

This is a very poignant thing for a man like Behrani to wish for due to the status he once had and the
status that he perceives he possesses within America. Throughout the novel, the reader encounters
Behrani s reminiscent nature, regarding his old life of luxury and status, continuously. Although
Behrani would like to portray that he can appear as a man that would live a life for the living of it, he
is very far from it. Amir belittles the blue collar work he has begun to slow his family spending and
keep his family happy. These jobs include working in a tomato cannery, an auto wash, a furniture
warehouse, a parking lot, two gasoline stations ... highway department and this convenience store
(Dubus 48). Behrani looked down on these blue collar positions and did not feel proud of the jobs he
had taken. He believed that there was no dignity attached to these jobs, as they were jobs for people
that were lesser (or younger) than him. He even professes that God would help him return to the
dignity that he once had, dignity that he believed he would never gain back. In addition to this
belittlement, he also continuously apologizes to his family for their living conditions, even though
they are by far above standard. He is consistently self conscious regarding his appearance and what
others view of his family and his home. He assumes

Cerebral Palsy Essay examples
Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy (CP) is brain damage. It cannot be cured, it is not contagious, it is not a disease, and it
does not get worse. According to Funk Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, Cerebral Palsy is a broad
term for various nonprogressive disorders of motor function in people, resulting from brain damage
around the time of birth. Damage to the brain could occur before, during, or shortly after birth (
Cerebral ). Since the damage is done during the brain s formation, and occurs in the part of the brain
that controls motor and muscle functions, people with CP might have problems with motor skills,
muscle tone, muscle weakness, reflexes, balance, excessive drooling, difficulties swallowing or
speaking, shaking, tremors, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because CP describes a group of neurological and physical abnormalities, people affected by the
disorder may have other neurological and physical problems. CP may not be noticeable at birth.
Children with CP develop predictable developmental milestones slowly because of their motor
impairments, and these delays in reaching milestones are usually the first symptoms (Gale Enc).
Doctors diagnose CP by checking the infant s motor skills, looking for developmental delays, and
considering the child s medical history. Many Doctors use the Early Motor Pattern Profile (EMPP) to
help in their evaluations. The EMPP indicates variations in muscle tone, reflexes, and movement and
is used to identify children during the first year of life who are at risk for the development of CP. The
EMPP can be done during a routine office visit. Observation and minimal handling can detect
abnormal motor patterns, making it quick and inexpensive. EMPP is the beginning of evaluation and
intervention ( Early 692). CP is a neurological disorder affecting motor control. It is the most common
physical disability in childhood. It is a lifelong condition that varies from person to person. It can be
very mild or extremely severe. There is no known cure, and the cause is not completely understood.
The four main categories of CP are spastic, athetoid, ataxic, and mixed. Spastic is stiff and difficult
movement. Athetoid is involuntary and uncontrolled movement. Ataxic is a disturbed sense of balance

Respiratory Syncytial Virus Research Paper
Respiratory syncytial virus, also known as RSV, is most commonly prevalent and severe in children
under the age of two years old. However, it can and does effect adults because of it being highly
contagious and easy transmit ability. RSV causes infections of the lungs and respiratory tract. Due to
the fact that respiratory syncytial virus can cause severe problems for children or adults, caution has to
be taken to notice the possible signs and symptoms associated with the virus. Therefore, this paper
will discuss the treatment, prevention, ethical issues, research, advancements, etc. associated with

For children infected with RSV and treated from home fever control and adequate fluid intake are the
anchor of treatment. Those hospitalized, similar steps are taken, hydration is required. Also, a careful
clinical assessment of respiratory status is done, including oxygen saturation, administration of
supplemental oxygen as needed; suctioning of the upper airway; as well as intubation and mechanical
ventilation when necessary (Todd, 2010). And in physicians offices breathing treatment are utilized to
help clear the air passageway. The most known treatment for severe cases is the use of the antiviral
FDA approved agent, Ribavirin. Ribavirin treats severe lung infections caused by RSV. Ribavirin,
when used for RSV, is usually given by oral inhalation or a nebulizer that has an attached oxygen
hood, oxygen tent, or face mask. A physician will prescribe the medication and inform the patient of
the dosage and usage (NCBI, 2016). On July 28, 2014, American Academy of Pediatrics supplied an
updated guideline for the use of palivizumab prophylaxis among infants and youth who have an
increased risk of hospitalization caused from the RSV infection (Prevention, 2015). Additionally, a
doctor may suggest an injection of epinephrine or a form of epinephrine that can be inspired through a

The recent change was part of a major reorganization to emphasize the progress toward rehabilitation
to reduce recidivism and to provide inmates with the training and education to successfully re enter
society following the completion of their sentences. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger noted that
California s $6 billion correctional system suffers from a multitude of problems out of control costs; a
recidivism rate far exceeding that of any other state; reported abuse of inmates by correctional
officers; an employee disciplinary system that fails to punish wrongdoers; and the failure of
correctional institutions to provide youth wards and inmates with mandated health care and other

was docked in San Francisco Bay in 1851 and held 30 inmates and quickly reached capacity.
California purchased 20 acres of land to build what is now known as San Quentin State Prison. The
inmates aboard The Waban and other prison ships were responsible for the building of the new prison.

Forms Of Sexual Hypocrisy In George Eliot s Middlemarch
The 19th century literature depicts the bodily desire largely rather than being enunciated explicitly.
The forms of love and desire in this era has philosophical, historical and aesthetic contexts. Visual arts
and literature has shaped love in this time. The Victorian period on one hand where publicly used to
have a respectable discussion on sexuality, on the other hand had undeniable modesty in matters of
speech, gesture and clothing.
There was once a society which is still held above all others to be the paradigm of sexual hypocrisy.
An ostensibly, even ostentatiously virtuous society which furtively broke its own rules of conduct; a
society which had nothing to say on sexual matters but left them but left them to the professionals.
The summary image of Victorian Society is extraordinarily tenacious.
The novel Middlemarch written by George Eliot (1871 1872) enjoyed immense popularity as it
dominated the European Literature in the 18th century. Eliot showcases social values and personal
importance by theorizing desire in her novel. The scene between Dorothea Brooke and Will Ladislaw

reader. Kurnick argues that Middlemarch as a 19th century novel depicting English society

Comparison Of Buddhism And Taoism
Taoism and Buddhism are China s two major religions. Taoism is a Chinese philosophical, religious,
and spiritual belief system that teaches one to flow with life and to be true to one s nature. Taoism is
one of China s five religions. It is one of three philosophical teachings which also include Buddhism,
and Confucianism. Taoism began in the in the late 4th century BC under the work of Laozi, in the Tao
Te Ching. Tao means way and Taoism is sometimes expressed as the flow of the universe. Taoism s
central value is naturalness, which one achieves by freeing themselves from desire and selfish
thoughts and behaviors and embracing simplicity in life. Taoism is also sometimes referred to as
Daoism.
Taoism teaches that trusting one s instincts and gut is the path to finding one s true nature. Taoism has
survived as long as it has it has because it teaches to adapt to which allows followers to embrace
modern culture rather than fight it. The three most popular ancient Taoist works include Tao Te Ching
written by Laozi, and one written by Lieh Tzu, and another written by Chuang Tzu. Taoism teaches to
reject hate, to reject intolerance, and to live with compassion, harmony, and balance in one s life.
Violence is considered to be a last resort in Taoism. Taoism can help one to decrease stress in their
life, which is known to cause illness. Taoism teaches that bad deeds and sin result in illness. The

The diagnosis of social phobia requires the symptoms to be consistent and persistent , as well as

societal norms. It shows that racial discrimination and racial harassment exist and that it is a
significant matter that needs to be addressed. The only way to dismantle the systemic structure is to
recognize that society needs to move away from formal equality to substantive equality.
It is difficult to recognize race discrimination because society masks it with the notion that everyone is
equal even when that is not the case. To solve systemic discrimination, the root of the problem must be
first understood. This means that those who want to help people who are disadvantaged must
understand the social construct of race and ethnic origins. In some cases, people like Eric Johnson, are
unaware that they possess stereotypical beliefs and that they unintentionally base their assumptions on

Taxi Driver Film Analysis
Taxi Driver: The Filth of the Streets and of Self The opening shot is Robert DeNiro s character, Travis
Bickle s eyes in the review mirror intensely gazing at the city. It then transitions to the view outside of
the taxi to the colorful, hectic streets of New York City. This exaggerates the importance of the taxi
itself and the main character s point of view from within it. Bickle is a veteran Marine who can t sleep
and decides to take the job of driving the long hours. He narrates the film as well using dialogue from
the journal that he keeps. Through the imagery and symbolism of the taxi itself, the musical backdrop,
and the artistic editing, Martin Scorcese s American psychological thriller captures the filth and futility

The Chinese People s Liberation Army Essay
The Chinese People s Liberation Army: Ground Forces (PLAGF) began a massive military
modernization in the 1980 s and they have been continually reforming their training and education of
their ground forces ever since. Senior officials within the People s Liberation Army recognized that
improving the military skills and raising the education levels of both officers and troops alike were
necessary prerequisites if they wanted to be able to utilize more advanced weaponry and fight in this
day and age.
During the modernization of the People s Liberation Army funding was increased for military
education, the study of foreign militaries was incorporated into their training curriculum and contacts
with foreign military academies was increased. The leadership of the PLA focused their education
reforms on the military academy system. They also changed the scope of their training from being
highly politicized and emphasized in single unit infantry troop training, to concentrating on training
officers capable of directing combined arms warfare.
The Revival of the military academies system began in 1978, which the Cultural Revolution had
devastated. (Mao Zedong china s communist leader launched his plan to reassert his authority over the
Chinese government which is known as the cultural revolution.) By 1984 the military academy system
had over a hundred institutions that consisted of two kinds of schools: command schools and
specialized technical training centers. The rejuvenation of

Character Analysis Of The Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong
In the chapter, The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , we meet an interesting character named Mary
Anne. She was a seventeen year old lady who just got out of high school and went to visit her
boyfriend Mark Fossie in Vietnam. It started out as just visiting a childhood sweetheart, except it all
changed in a matter of weeks. Mary Anne began to take too much interest and she became engulfed in
vietnam. She wasn t all too careful, rather than her swallowing the land, she was swallowed whole by
it. Vietnam changed Mary Anne into something she never thought that she would become, she
changed into a lone soldier, physically, behaviorally and psychologically.
The first was Mary Anne changed was physically. When Mary Anne first arrived, she was described
as, ...tall, big boned blonde (89) and with long white legs and a complexion like strawberry ice cream
(89) These descriptions symbolize how new that she was, the perfect example of a lady. She slowly
began to learn stuff from the boys around, and she became so committed to her surroundings that she
changed her appearance. ...stopped wearing cosmetics, no nail filing, stopped wearing jewelry, cut her
hair short (94) This symbolized the change throughout the weeks, how she changed into somebody
completely different than the first day that anybody saw her. She was barely recognizable anymore.
Once she started going off with the greenies, she started to look like them. She wore a bush hat and
filthy green fatigues... her face was

Sydney Carton
Charles Dickens book clearly reveals the idea of resurrection through the character of Sydney Carton.
Although, in the 1980 version of A Tale of Two Cities directed by Jim Goddard, the same actor, Chris
Sarandon plays the role of both Sydney Carton and Charles Darnay. Through having such change
being made, it severely shifts the theme of the novel. For starters, the author is trying to reveal the idea
of resurrection but does so by the character of Sydney Carton and when he decides to give his own life
for that of Charles. Thus, when both characters are the same actors in the film, it also creates new
ideas of who Sydney really seeks to be, not only himself but Charles as well. Nevertheless, the whole
idea of resurrection is questioned due ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, Sydney s character is portrayed as cruel and a man who has no purpose in life and
dishonorable among the community. In contrast, Charles is classy, and handsome. However, as Chris
plays both characters, it raises questions on who they really, and if after all they seek to be different.
As a result of the theme of resurrection shifted from the novel to the movie, it is relevant to state that
now these characters have slightly diverse significance and their standpoint is most definitely
changed. Due to the fact that both Charles and Sydney have been portrayed by the same person, it
reveals that after all they simply do not seek to be very much diverse. As a matter of fact, we see the
mischievous side of Charles when he fails to announce that he is related to the Marquis, he is part of
the Marqui family. This idea is greatly enforced as we see little to no evidence in the film that Sydney
is an unpleasant person. With that being said, the film almost shows a balance of malice of both
characters to emphasize the idea that although they can be portrayed physically different, overall they
are fairly similar. Nonetheless, the fact that Chris is playing both roles raises the doubt that in fact they
may after all be similar; Charles, is indeed not who he appears to be. The 1980 s version of the novel

Describe and evaluate the negative social, cultural or environmental impact caused by tourism in a
destination of your choice. Analyse the causes of this impact and judge to what extent sustainable
tourism strategies and methods could eliminate or ameliorate them and thereby secure the long term
future of the destination.
The negative effects of tourism are widely publicised in a number of destinations worldwide; however
it is often underdeveloped nations that are home to natural wonders of the world which attract huge
tourism levels. This is significant as these underdeveloped nations often rely on the tourist industry as

Accessed March 22 2010).
The environmental, cultural impact in the shape of damage to the temples can be explained by the way
the tourist experience is consumed in Angkor. The wearing of shoes and touching of the sculptures by
millions of tourists is causing huge erosion problems. We are very concerned by this unprecedented,
uncontrolled acceleration, which is damaging the monuments and the local environment. Teruo Jinnai,
UNESCO s top official in Cambodia ( Justine Smith (25th Feb 2007) Tourism invasion threatens to
ruin Angkor Wat, The Guardian, Accessed March 23).Passes to the ancient sites are sold in one day

Archaeological Park (n.d) Accessed March 25). Visible damage to the temples has arisen from large
numbers of daily visitors or short stays include congestion of facilities in and around the temples. It
can be argued that the cause of erosion and damage to the temples lies in economic and political
motivation of the Cambodian government to maintain and increase tourist revenue. The consideration
of thresholds and carrying capacity could to a great extent reduce such negative impacts as over and
consequent negative social and cultural impacts on the Angkor temples. Carrying capacity can be
defined as the maximum number of people who can use a site without an unacceptable alteration in

My Mistress Tone
Love is a strong word, as anyone would agree. There are many twists and turns associated with such a
word. Love: Is it innocent? Is it lust? Is it true? Is it accepted? Or is it just a joke? When comparing
the two poems, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun by William Shakespeare and To his Coy
Mistress by Andrew Marvell it is clear that they share similar traits as they both use satirical tones to
describe love for mistress . Looking deeper into the poems; the backgrounds of the poets and their
time periods of which they were written do distinguish differences in how they have portrayed their
ideas in the literacies. To begin, comparing the theme of My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun to

She is the so called Dark Lady. She is the woman full of flaws, but ever so lucky to have Shakespeare

cannot resist her. The mistress desires to be flattered and praised by Shakespeare, not like most
Petrarchan women of this time (Gil, 103 135). Shakespeare uses this poem to express her flaws; her
wire like black hair, reeking breath, and pale skin. Nonetheless, he ends with the flattery the mistress
longs for and expresses his incomparable love for her. Her role is of such significance because she is
the mistress that is so full of flaws and shown for her faulty human qualities, but Shakespeare loves
her anyway. Most poets of his time put their women on pedestals to show their love for them,
Shakespeare used the truth to show his love for his imperfect

professionals, and society at large. An estimated 1.6 million unduplicated persons use transitional

households with children, a nine percent increase since 2007. A study done by the National Law
Center on Homelessness and Poverty stated that approximately 3.5 million people, 1.35 million of

The Basic Internet and Its Security
What is the basic internet and how do you make it safe? Most people in the world have a computer but
do not know what makes a computer a computer. Most people do not even know what device would
qualify as a computer. The computer is an important part of the twenty first century. The responsibility
of computer users goes beyond internet access. The computer has basic internet and security that is
needed to be followed. The internet guarantees a source of internet access nevertheless; a computers
security is the most important part of being a computer owner or user.
A computer has basic information that must be understood. A computer is a device that can manipulate
information or data. Computers can be a laptop, a tablet, a mobile phone, a server, and your everyday
desktop computer. On a computer you can stream movies, create documents, browse the web, or send
emails. To do these things on a computer hardware and software is needed.
What is hardware and software? Hardware is the physical attributes that make up a computer.
Hardware can be found on the inside and on the outside of the computer. Hardware that is on the

Right To Bear Arms Essay
The right to own a fire arm is a currently a controversial topic in the United States, with many pros
and cons to either side. However, it is a constitutional right that the Founding Fathers gave the citizens
for a myriad of reasons. By taking away this right from the people, it is a violation of their
constitutional rights and limits their freedoms, which goes against everything our country is founded
on. One reason why citizens should be allowed to bear arms is that owning a fire arm gives owners
protection in the event that an individual intends to do harm. Another reason, is that farmers need guns
for their way of life. Lastly, having a gun enables you to defend the country in the event that we are
invaded. Owning a fire arm is especially important for self defense in the event that a an individual
has come to do harm. Having a gun gives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is very probable that if the United States were to be invaded and the majority of the troops were
deployed or on the other side of the country, it would make the most sense for there to be a well
regulated militia of the citizens to rise up and defend the country. The Founding Fathers included this
right in the second amendment so that in this event it would be possible for ordinary citizens to defend
themselves, just as our Founding Fathers had done in the Revolutionary War. It is also important to
have a well regulated militia so that in the case that the United States Government turns into a tyranny
citizens have the means to protect themselves, as did our noble forefathers in the Revolutionary War.
Guns have a special place in the history of the United States. Much of American gun culture stems
from the frequent use to establish and defend the country. (Massie, 30). Ergo it is important that
Americans continue to have this basic right that built the United States we know

  • 2. Detroit Art History Detroit Institute of Art is located at 5200 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI. The website is https://www.dia.org/. At this museum, there is a lot of Detroit and American history and also a lot of paintings from the 18 and 1900s. The website has over 6,000 pieces that are located on the site. Some of these can t be viewed but they still give you the history on the piece. One of the pieces that stood out to me was the Egyptian mummuy. That piece is a very ancient piece, but the detailing of the art interest me the most. I can just imagine the time and effort that was put into it. One of the current expeditions is based off Detroit s music, mainly the hip hop aspect. It goes into the depths of not only the music as the performer but behind the scenes. It informs you on how the Detroit music was over shadowed by other states, but with one of the local Detroit movies, it helped the music side of things, see the light again. The website does provide useful information. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather you re old or young, you can learn from the museum and get a better understanding of Detroit. • 3. Reflection Of The Woman Warrior In 1976 Maxine Hong Kingston won the National Book Critics Circle Award for the best work of non fiction for her book The Woman Warrior: Memories of a Girlhood among Ghosts, a novel built up from a collection of stories that draw on from Chinese folklore and myth intertwined with her own life s experiences and episodes from her and other female family members life. While labelled as an autobiography, American readers enthusiastically welcomed it as work of fiction that deals with the exotic, mysterious and unfathomable China. This illustrates the why and wherefores of the many readings that this work has originated since its publication. The lack of adherence to one genre, especially autobiography, presents one of the central issues of how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Turning to Jung, one finds that myths are shared by all members of a community and by extension, all humankind, although their true meaning can only be attained within the individual psyche, their workings are strictly personal, being instrumental in the eternal quest towards self realization. Under this point of view, the reinterpretation of the Chinese folktales signifies to Kingston the construction not only of her own speech but also of the structure for understanding her Chinese American identity; in Kingston s words: myth have to change, be useful or forgotten. • 4. The Environmental Protection Of A Natural Gas Star Program Introduction As natural gas use continues to increase in the U.S. and throughout the world, new markets, technologies and infrastructure have enabled companies to capitalize on the advantages delivered by this non toxic, non corrosive and relatively clean burning fossil fuel. With the increased focus on the benefits of LNG, however, global regulatory bodies and environmentalist groups are also increasingly focused on the impact of natural gas extraction and utilization. The hazardous effects of fugitive methane emissions are an ongoing source of scrutiny, with LNG producers and standards committees both acutely aware of the importance of mitigating the associated risks. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has likewise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike on/off valves, check valves are flow sensitive and rely on the line fluid to open and close. Rather than offering emergency shutoff or complete flow control, check valves are intended only to prevent reverse flow and the resultant damage to piping systems. Because of this, seat leakage rates for check valves differ from those imposed on other valve types, and should be evaluated within the appropriate constraints. The industry has a large number of leak rate standards available (API 598, API 6D, MSS, BS6364, Shell MESC SPE 77/300, ISO 5208, ANSI to name a few), and there is confusion in the industry today about which requirements are the most appropriate to impose on check valves. This article will review the valve industry seat leak rate standards, the purpose of each standard, and ultimately how they relate to check valve selection and specifications. Furthermore, we will examine the purpose and operation of check valves within LNG systems and discuss why ultra low leak rates are generally not appropriate for check valves. Leak Rate Specifications: Purpose and Practicality The daily demands placed on check valves, including their constant exposure to fluid mediums, make them highly susceptible to wear and other operational challenges like sticking, jamming and ... • 5. Extraction of Metals Extraction of metals The History of Metals. Metals have been used by people for many thousands of years. Gold and silver, found as native metal, were used both as jewellery and as a status symbol nothing new there. These metals were known in the Stone Age, but gold and silver are too soft to be used as tools. The first really useful metal to be discovered was bronze. This began the Bronze Age. Bronze was used extensively for tools and weapons in Asia and Africa from 4,500 B.C. (6,500 years ago) and in Britain from 2,000 B.C. (4,000 years ago). News of the new material travelled slowly in those days and it took the Brits 2,500 years to get the message. Bronze is not an element (like gold and silver) but an alloy (metal mixture) of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same can be said of metal extraction. Metal extraction can drastically affect the quality of air in the surrounding areas, what with the high levels of dust and gas in the area. There s also the noise pollution that it creates, which is affecting the natural habitat of animals. Last, metal extraction disfigures the landscape. Now, if companies continually extract metal, the land will forever be disfigured, causing flooding and soil erosion in the area. It will also cause large scale natural habitat destruction, causing so many species to be uprooted. There s also the air and water pollution to consider. Economic Impact of Metal Extraction It is a fact that mining, extracting, refining, and purifying metal will cost a lot of money. There are different types of metal, and they need different methods of extraction. Now, the methods of extracting metal do not come cheap, nor does refining and purifying metal. Not only will you need special equipment for their extraction, but you will also need other elements as well such as copper, zinc, mercury, among others, for the purification and refinement processes. Some of these elements are very harmful and toxic not only to humans and animals but to nature as well, worsening the environmental impact of metal extraction. Aside from this, you also have to think of the transportation costs of extracted metal. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Animal Experimentation Essay Animals suffer just as people do. In 2009 animal experimentation was the cause of over 1.13 million animals, excluding small rodents, suffering in U.S. Laboratories (U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service). Animal experimentation is unethical, unnecessary and expensive; alternative methods of testing should be utilized. It is unethical to use the cruel methods of animal experimentation for our own benefit alone. The animals used in research range from birds, dogs, cats, and pigs to name a few. So many innocent creatures put up with the immense pain so that science experiments can be made and new products can be put on the shelves. This method is used even if the product is not intended to be in contact with human skin, eyes, or mouth ( Animals in Product Testing. 2011). The Draize test causes severe pain, itching, burning and often death. The LD 50 (lethal dose 50 percent) test is used to measure toxicity levels of certain ingredients. The ingredient is either injected into the animal or the animal is forced to ingest the product. The amount or concentration of the substance will kill at least half of the group within a specific time frame; the animals will suffer acute distress, pain, convulsions, discharge, diarrhea and bleeding from the eyes and mouth. The subjects that do not die from the initial dosage are killed to test their internal organs for damage ( Animals in Product Testing. 2011). Animals are put through extreme pain and unnecessary measures for animal testing and experimentation. It is cruel and unethical to cause so much physical harm to another living being. Apart from being cruel and harmful to animals, animal experimentation is also costly. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, it cost over 1 million dollars to fund each testing facility for one year. One of the largest sources of funding comes from the publicly funded government granting agency, the U.S. National Institutes of Health ( Animal Experiments: Overview. 2011). • 7. Aging Out Movie Analysis In the documentary Aging Out directed by Roger Weisber, it is noticeable how these three teenagers (Risa, David, and Danielle) were trying to get out of the Foster Care System and become independent adults. However, each one of them struggled with their task of becoming an independent person. I will provide you with one of the sociological paradigms that I believe is strong within the documentary. Structural Functionalism Theory, which attempts to focus on the relationship between social institutions that are made up by society. The documentary gives perfect examples of Functionalism because we can notice that those teenagers have all received criticisms from all adults who are in their lives. Criticism is a big contributor to social change (which they experienced) because people use repetitive behavior since they only do what they have applied it, to overcome problems in the foster system, all they have accumulated from criticisms and see no way to better themselves. Nonetheless, one big contributor to the way these teenagers have felt with trying to enter into society is a sociological institute, which makes them meet social needs, for example the government, it tries maintain stability and contribute to the well being, and be a society as an integrated whole. All three teenagers were in foster care and in order for them to do good in society they need to follow rules and be a certain way to succeed in the real world (society). In addition to fleeing Iran due to the political climate and his family s involvement with the Shah, Behrani is presented to the reader as the quintessential immigrant and refugee. He and his family move to San Francisco, California in order to start a new life. With very little money compared to what they were accustomed to, Behrani and his family reside in a relatively wealthy area. This is a very poignant thing for a man like Behrani to wish for due to the status he once had and the status that he perceives he possesses within America. Throughout the novel, the reader encounters Behrani s reminiscent nature, regarding his old life of luxury and status, continuously. Although Behrani would like to portray that he can appear as a man that would live a life for the living of it, he is very far from it. Amir belittles the blue collar work he has begun to slow his family spending and keep his family happy. These jobs include working in a tomato cannery, an auto wash, a furniture warehouse, a parking lot, two gasoline stations ... highway department and this convenience store (Dubus 48). Behrani looked down on these blue collar positions and did not feel proud of the jobs he had taken. He believed that there was no dignity attached to these jobs, as they were jobs for people that were lesser (or younger) than him. He even professes that God would help him return to the dignity that he once had, dignity that he believed he would never gain back. In addition to this belittlement, he also continuously apologizes to his family for their living conditions, even though they are by far above standard. He is consistently self conscious regarding his appearance and what others view of his family and his home. He assumes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Funk Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, Cerebral Palsy is a broad term for various nonprogressive disorders of motor function in people, resulting from brain damage around the time of birth. Damage to the brain could occur before, during, or shortly after birth ( Cerebral ). Since the damage is done during the brain s formation, and occurs in the part of the brain that controls motor and muscle functions, people with CP might have problems with motor skills, muscle tone, muscle weakness, reflexes, balance, excessive drooling, difficulties swallowing or speaking, shaking, tremors, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because CP describes a group of neurological and physical abnormalities, people affected by the disorder may have other neurological and physical problems. CP may not be noticeable at birth. Children with CP develop predictable developmental milestones slowly because of their motor impairments, and these delays in reaching milestones are usually the first symptoms (Gale Enc). Doctors diagnose CP by checking the infant s motor skills, looking for developmental delays, and considering the child s medical history. Many Doctors use the Early Motor Pattern Profile (EMPP) to help in their evaluations. The EMPP indicates variations in muscle tone, reflexes, and movement and is used to identify children during the first year of life who are at risk for the development of CP. The EMPP can be done during a routine office visit. Observation and minimal handling can detect abnormal motor patterns, making it quick and inexpensive. EMPP is the beginning of evaluation and intervention ( Early 692). CP is a neurological disorder affecting motor control. It is the most common physical disability in childhood. It is a lifelong condition that varies from person to person. It can be very mild or extremely severe. There is no known cure, and the cause is not completely understood. The four main categories of CP are spastic, athetoid, ataxic, and mixed. Spastic is stiff and difficult movement. Athetoid is involuntary and uncontrolled movement. The forms of love and desire in this era has philosophical, historical and aesthetic contexts. Visual arts and literature has shaped love in this time. The Victorian period on one hand where publicly used to have a respectable discussion on sexuality, on the other hand had undeniable modesty in matters of speech, gesture and clothing. There was once a society which is still held above all others to be the paradigm of sexual hypocrisy. It shows that racial discrimination and racial harassment exist and that it is a significant matter that needs to be addressed. The only way to dismantle the systemic structure is to recognize that society needs to move away from formal equality to substantive equality. As a result of the theme of resurrection shifted from the novel to the movie, it is relevant to state that now these characters have slightly diverse significance and their standpoint is most definitely changed.
