Why Is Mark Twain Wrong
When people think of the greatest works of literature, the first thing that most people would think
of is great epics or massive adventure stories with eloquent and verbose descriptions. Usually said
works are devoid of any grammatical errors or faultless in structure, organization, and
characterization. However, Mark Twainproved everyone wrong by his work in The Adventures of
Huckleberry Fin. His interesting style of writing proved that the character s viewpoint of the story
itself is more important than staying within reason of correct grammar usage. Mark Twain was
easily the most influential writer of his time because of how and why he wrote his novels. Mark
Twain often writes in first person style, and it is evident with how the English... Show more content

His unique and revolutionary writing style still stand out among other famous works of literature
to this day, even with the criticism and heat it received upon its publication back in 1885. The way
that Twain conveyed his inner love for the south and its diverse people and culture made The
Adventures of Huckleberry Fin a novel that can, and will stand the test of time in being one of
literature s best works. Twain effectively proved that a refined dialect is not needed to create a
masterpiece in the form of a novel, but rather it is how the characters and setting in the story are
described in the light they are presented in. The way Mark Twain warped the language and
dialect of the text to appeal to the southern states is still a marvel to appreciate to this day. Even if
some say that Twain s writing is not the correct way to be writing a novel, he still managed to
depict a certain culture so perfectly that authors to this day wish they had his talent in descriptive

Salary Wages In Corrections
On a cold, bitter morning standing in a yard watching people move about, the wind stirs fallen
leaves on the ground. Offenders move to the place they are to be. A thought pops into the head of
the officers watching the yard; was this the right choice. Then a fight breaks out, time to go to
work. This is a question that everyone thinks about as they examine their career choices. In Roth s
book The Achievement Habit, it reads that the road is not always straight but with curves and turns
intersect it. Of all the different problems in the Department of correctionsin the state of Colorado,
most people believe that salarywages are the biggest problem; but actually the biggest problem is
staff shortages.

Leonato And Antonio Foil
In almost every book there are character foils, even if there are no antagonists. In the book Much
Ado About Nothing, there are many romances, fights, and hatred between characters. The couples
of Benedick and Beatrice, and Claudio and Hero all describe a love between them, and the very
same for hatred. Much ado about nothingis about all of the romance that can go through rough
patches. In Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, Antonio is a foil for Leonato
because of their opinions, emotions, and thoughts.
The opinions of Antonio and Leonato differ by many standards of their own. This is happening
during the wedding of Hero and Claudio and it happens after the shaming. An example of this is
when Leonato said Hence from her, Let her die (Shakespeare 70). When Leonato says this he is at

margaret had made claudio to think that she was a very bad person. This quote states to Leonato
that others shall suffer too. On the other hand Antonio claims Yet bend not all the harm upon
yourself. Make those that do offend you suffer too (Shakespeare 82). Antonio says this because he
thinks that the people who shame or offend leonatos family should suffer along with him. Antonio
and Leonato are oils of each other because their thoughts are very separate that s because one is
undeniably angry and the other is showing forgiveness. In all the thoughts of Antonio and Leonato

Social Action Theories Essay
Social action theories are known as micro theories which take a bottom up approach to studying
society; they look at how individuals within society interact with each other. There are many forms
of social action theories, the main ones being symbolic interactionism, phenomenology and
ethnomethodology. They are all based on the work of Max Weber, a sociologist, who acknowledged
that structural factors can shape our behaviour but individuals do have reasons for their actions. He
used this to explain why people behave in the way in which they do within society. Weber saw four
types of actions which are commonly committed within society; rational, this includes logical plans
which are used to achieve goals, traditional customary behaviour,... Show more content on

Labelling theory has also been used to apply the interactionist theory to society; the theory, like
Mead, emphasises the importance of symbols and situations in which they are used. The main
interactionist concepts are the definition of the situation if we believe in something then it could
affect the way in which we behave. The looking glass self this was created by Cooley who argues
that we see ourselves in a way in which we think others see us. These concepts have been useful in
explaining why people act in certain ways in certain situations; therefore, the labelling theory is
effective in the study of society.
Overall, in conclusion, there are many different social action theories which can be used in the
study of society, however, not all of them can be applied to all

What Is The Myth Of Sisyphus
The bus was silent, no one daring to speak. We had just suffered the first loss in more than 10
years to one of the competing schools to make it to the state tournament for tennis. This bus ride
home from the tournament in Green Bay gave me sufficient time to reflect on my matches and on
the sport as a whole.
Tennis is a sport of repetition. You playpoints over and over again until a match is complete,
matches until a tournament is complete, and then the whole process repeats a couple weeks later.
This reminded me of the myth of Sisyphus. Sisyphus was a kind who upon his death was tasked
with rolling a boulder up a hill. However, as soon as he pushed the stone to the top it rolled back
down to the bottom and he had to start again. While this is seen as a punishment in the myth I see
it as a blessing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In playing tennis I am essentially Sisyphus, repeating the same process over and over for hours
and then doing it again. This is a blessing because we have the free will to associate value to
something inherently valueless and put effort and time into it to make ourselves better. So by
giving Sisyphus this task to repeat endlessly for eternity, they actually blessed him by giving him
something to attach meaning to. In the same way tennis gives me something to attach meaning to
and better myself through a game that will not improve me academically or as a person. Tennis has
given me something to work and improve at and attach meaning to which fulfills me. I have tasked
myself with the unachievable goal of perfection and it has brought me more happiness and
achievement than almost anything else in my

K2 And Spice
Synthetic cannabis, commonly known as K2 and spice , is a designer drug created to serve as a
legal alternative to marijuana. This recreational drug is simple to obtain in head shops and by
internet order. Marketing for spice is commonly disguised as an herbal compound including the
brand name which also serves as the classification of the synthetic cannabinoid based on structural
modifications. Some examples include CP for cycloexyphenol, AM for alkyl or N methylpiperidine
replacements, JWH, HU, and many more. Similarly to marijuana, K2 is typically smoked via water
pipe, within cigarette paper, or converted into a liquid for placement into electronic cigarettes for
inhalation. 1 Synthetic cannabinoids were created to bind the same receptors as the active
compound in marijuana, О”9 tetrahydrocannabinol(THC), cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 to
obtain the psychotropic effects such as euphoria. CB1 receptors are located within the cerebral

Modernization Theory And The Theories Of Modernization Theory
DEVELOPMENT THEORIES
STUDENT NUMBER ; 1008455
Modernization theory represents the mixture of sociology theories within societies. It mainly
reflects the traditional views of society and highlight the internal factors of a country and
development (Bernstein, 1971). From the 18th century, it englight the individual ideas of
modernism the civilians living in the society. Whereas, the social changes were brought in
revolution to change the view and standards of living with the concept of functionalism, which
focuses on interdependence (TeМЃtreault Abel, 1986). It is stated by the French philosopher
Marquies de Condorcet, who bought a new division of technology development and changes in the

Dependency theory was arose in the response of modernization that where wealthy states are
growing quickly, on the other hand underdeveloped states still need some progress in the society

nations such as labor, markets, natural resources, etc.
Researcher highlighted, modernization has been the most dominant theory in societies and political
sector (Mihalache, 2007). Modernization theory faces criticism in the shape of dependency theory
because of the underdeveloped states were suffering and modernization theorist was focusing on the
development literature by neglecting the poor nations (Seers, 1981). The primary function of

Militarism Against The Vietnam War

bound to the specific time period in which they are created because the ideologies they reflect or

but still acting as an effective element of the present (Williams). The song Masters of War is a
song that falls into this category; in 1963, the song Masters of War was written by Bob Dylan as a
response to the antiwar movement against the Vietnam War, and in 2004, Pearl Jam applied the

The terror attacks on September 11, 2001, introduced a new form of enemy and in response, the
government invoked the residual ideology of militarism to combat this enemy instead of turning
to an emergent ideology, or a new, creative way of facing this new enemy. The Bush
administration declared the war on terrorism and in solidarity with those affected by the terror
attacks, the public supported the government s actions (Foner). However, the enemy of this war
was loosely defined as those who hate freedom and the board definition included all terrorist
groups around the world that poses a threat to the Western world and the freedom it represents
(Foner). The first act of war under the war on terrorism was when the Taliban, the terrorist group
responsible for the tragedy on September 11, refused to give up its leader Osama bin Laden and the
United States responded with air strikes (Foner). To the public, this military action against
Afghanistan and the Taliban seemed justified because the Taliban was the group responsible for
the terror attacks. However, with the enemy so ambiguously defined and without a clear agenda,
the government was able to take free rein of the direction of the war and possible self interest
came into play. The government identified the axis of evil as Iraq, Iran, and North Korea, and
claimed that these three countries harbored weapons of mass destruction, or nuclear, chemical,
and biological weapons, and planned to use these weapons on the United States; this claim was
not supported by evidence (Foner). As the United States went to war with Iraq under this
unjustified accusation, dissent rose around the world and many suspected that the true intention
was to fight for control over the world s second largest oil reserves in Iraq (Foner). These antiwar
protests around the world set the context for Pearl Jam s 2004 cover of Masters of War on David

Green Barrier to China s Export
Introduction
As the world economy moves towards globalization, China has become more open to trade with
other countries. Its international trade volume had risen from US$20.6 in 1978 to US$1,422 billion
in 2005 (Wang amp; Liu, 2007). Since China s exports mainly focus on the labor intensive and
resource intensive industries, this exports pattern causes a serious environmental problem in China.
Green barriers become a kind of emerging non tariff barrier which is used for the developed
countries to protect their production and economic development in recent years. The main forms of

In fact, Green barriers are the outcome of economic development . On the one hand, production and
development of technology increase people s income and living standards. On the other hand, it has
irreversible negative influence on the natural resources and environment, such as desert
encroachment, deforestation, water shortages, acid rain, biodiversity reduction (Wang amp; Liu,
2007, p.2). Therefore, many regulations and principles point out that international trade must
integrate with the environment and the economic development. To this extent, green barriers have a
rational and positive effect on protecting environment as well as the health of human beings,
animals and plants. Specifically, the reasons are explained as follows.
First, a green barrier has been widely accepted by WTO members in principle as an environmental
measure related to trade. The European Union has applied ISO 14000 to request all imported goods
meet environment standards. Second, green barriers are not only embodied in environmental and
technological effects, but also in aligning world production according to true comparative
advantage. One country will have a positive effect on its neighbor and global environment through
protecting the environment, so green barriers has a positive global externality. Third, strict
environmental regulations can improve efficiency and encourage innovations that improve

Neutralisation Reaction Lab Report
1. What is a neutralisation reaction?
A neutralisation reaction is a chemical reaction that occurs when equivalent amounts of acid and a
base react to produce salt and water (H2O) (The FreeDictionary.com,2017). The H+(q) ions from
an acid react with the OH‾ ions from an alkali. The equation for this reaction is:
H+(aq)+OH‾(aq)=H2O(l). For example, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solution react
with each other and form water and sodium chloride solution. The acid consists of H+ ions and
Cl‾ ions, and the alkali contains Na+ ions and OH‾ ions. The H+ ions and OH‾ ions create
water, and the Na+ ions and Cl‾ ions create sodium chloride, NaCl (aq) (Bbc.co.uk,2017).

Conclusion:
The aim of the experiment to perform a chemical neutralisation reaction by using hydrochloric acid
and sodium hydroxide solution was achieved because the base plus acid turned into salt and water.
While performing the flame test using a wire loop along with the white crystals from the

The Effects Of Outdoor Sports Lighting On The Community
Can something as common as lighting cause enough contention to divide a community? In New
Providence the answer is a resounding yes. Without land available for the opening of new athletic
fields, there simply are not enough sports fields to meet the needs of the town s population. In an
effort to solve this dilemma, the proposal has been made by the New Providence Partnership for
Recreation (NPPR) to install lightingin Lieder Field. The benefits to the community include an
increase in hours each day the fieldmay be used at no expense to the taxpayer. Yet, others in the
community believe that outdoor sports lighting would have a negative impact on the quality of life
in the community, be too costly and would diminish the property value of nearby homes. While
athletic field lights have been used in southern New Jersey without these negative impacts that part
of the state is significantly more rural than densely populated New Providence. Is athletic field
lighting beneficial for the town of New Providence? While there are always benefits as well as
negative consequences for community decisions, the benefits of installing athletic field lighting far
outweigh the negative ramifications.

fields, yet there is not land available to build additional facilities. The NPPR believes installing

COMMUNICATION IN KENYA

1.0Introduction
Effective communication between teacher and pupil is a requisite factor for educational attainment.
For the deaf, ineffective communication is a major problem especially when onset of profound
deafness takes places at an early age before language is acquired. At school, the language of
classroom communication not only affects the child s development but also influences ability to
learn other curriculum contents. Pointing out reasons for failure by deaf children to compete
favorably with their hearing peers, Johnson et al (1989) has indicated that the central problem on
deaf education is embedded in the lack of an appropriate language of classroom communication.
For a long time education for the deaf was conducted through the oral approach. It was later realized
that this oral approach did not avail curriculum content to the deaf learners. In the 1980 s Total
Communication arose as one of the solutions. According to Adoyo(2004), Total Communication
was misunderstood for Simultaneous Communication, a communication system in which speech
and sign are produced at the same time (Lane, Hoffmister Bahan, 1996). Although SC has been
used in Kenya for all these years, it has not produced the predicated large scale improvement.

Tres versiones interesantes que yo e escuchado son la de la mentirosa, la gemela, y la celosa. En la

Gender, Social Class, And Slut Discourse On Campus

Citation: Armstrong, E. A. et al. Good Girls : Gender, Social Class, And Slut Discourse On
Campus . Social Psychology Quarterly 77.2 (2014): 100 122. Web. 17 Feb. 2016.
The journal article addresses the issue of undergraduate women using slut shaming and the actual
reason women participate in it.
2.The theory being tested in the article is that women participate in slut shaming as a way for them
to distance or separate themselves from other women. The reason they separate themselves is a
way for women to categorize other women into different statuses and a way for themselves to
maintain their own status. The status classes women are categorized in are linked to the social class
they are a part of. Slut shaming among women is not necessarily based on their sexual acts, but
of the way they act as a woman. The theory also states that slut shaming is also a result of male
dominance and female submission. The slut label was created by men due to a double standard
created by society. The double standard is that men are expected to act upon their sexual desires
regardless of being in a relationship or having any emotional connection with the person they re
engaging that sexual act with all while women are only allowed to participate in sexual activities if
they are in a loving and committed relationship. However, if

Symbolism Used in James Joyce s Dubliners

Symbolism
Symbolism is a powerful tool used by people every day to force people to look past the obvious
and find the deeper meaning. Symbolism is used by authors, musicians, priests, and many others.
James Joyce, a well known Irish author, uses symbolism repeatedly throughout his collection of
short stories published in 1916. In these stories, titled Dubliners, Joyce uses symbolism not only to
enhance the stories, but to also show the hidden, underlying message of each story without coming
out and saying it directly. Joyce s stories are centered on the problems of Dublin and through his
use of symbolism Joyce is able to focus attention on what problem each story is addressing. James

From the opening sentence Joyce gives his readers and idea of what to expect from his stories.
Examining the term gives a deeper meaning that enhances the story. At the boy s home, The wild
garden behind the house contained a central apple tree and a...rusty bicycle pump (21). The
apple tree symbolizes Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, self deception followed by self
knowledge. The bicycle pump symbolizes the kid s pumped up, full of hot air, fascination with
the girl and then being deflated. The apple tree and bicycle pump are clues to the outcome of the
story. The boy also discovers three important and symbolic books in his house. The Abbot is
about the worship of a special lady, The Devout Communicant is about worship and The
Memoirs of Vidocq is a detective story that usually ends with the truth being revealed. All three
stories are hinting at what will happen to the boy at the end of the story. The boy goes to Araby,
a market of goods from all over the world, to buy the girl a gift in order to prove his love to her,
but when he finally gets there the market s closing in ten minutes. The boy heard a voice call
from one end of the gallery that the light was out (27). Joyce frequently uses light to symbolize an
epiphany or realization. In this case, the boy realizes the girl does not really have feelings for him
as he had convinced himself to believe. The light provides the reader with the moment the boy

Saudi Arabia Women
The Suppression of Women in Saudi Arabia In the United States, men and women have the same
rights and laws. Unfortunately, half way around the world,it is a different story in the desert
country of Saudi Arabia. In Saudi Arabia, men and women are treated completely different and
have different laws according to their gender. The numerous, oppressive laws for women in Saudi
Arabiaand lack of basic human rightsare causing a call for change because women want to be
treated with respect, not worse than a doormat.

In some areas, the code is stricter than others. Women must always wear an abayas. An abayas is
an all black, loose fitting robe that covers the entire body from wrist to ankle. No skin is
showing, not even the neck. They also have to have a hood covering all their hair. When they go
out in public, their face needs to be covered, except for the eyes. In some places, they must have
their eyes covered by a see through black covering as well. Sometimes, black silk gloves must be
worn too. They are allowed to wear whatever shoes they want, even though sandals are the most
common. The key to understanding Saudi customs is the country s history. When the modern
nation was founded in 1932, it was based on an 18th century pact between the ruling Al Saud
monarchy and a devout bunch of clerics who followed a fiery version of Islam (Ritadh 1) At the

and veil on airplanes after recent terrorism and discrimination issues. Once they leave the airport,
they must be fully covered.

The Eighth Amendment and Death Penalty Essay
The Eight Amendment to the U.S. Constitution Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive
fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted , proposed on 9/25/1789 and approved
on 12/15/1791. The cruel and unusual punishment confines the harshness of penalties that state and
federal governments may inflict upon ones who have been condemned of a criminal offense. The
excessive fines phrase restricts the amount that state and federal governments may possibly fine an
individual for a specific offense. The excessive bail phrase limits legal judgment in setting bail for

The Next War By Wilfred Owen
With the knowledge of war you have today, would you be willing to volunteer to sign up for the
front line?
Wilfred Owen, a World War One poet, revealed the unsettling subject matter of war by using his
own personal perspective to explore the harsh brutal reality of war.
Through sensory imagery, he portrayed the severe everlasting conditions. Owen s treatment for
shellshock at Craig Lockhart mental hospital influenced his writing and he was undergoing the
treatment when his first poem was published. His poems continued to be published even after his
death in November 1918, one week before the ceasefire.
Owen presents the horrific subject matter through Strange meeting , The Next Warand Anthem for
Doomed Youth . The shift in Owens tone explores his bitterness and shows that he begins to accept
the looming fact of his own impending death.
The mental implications of war on the soldiers challenged the way they functioned day to day. In
the Next War Owen demonstrates the mental implications through personifying death and engaging
the responder with sensory imagery.
He s spat at us with bullets and he s coughed as a result an image is created, the responder sees that
Owen s mental condition has him viewing everything as death. This was caused by his PTSD and
Shellshock, which was what prompted his treatment at Craig Lockhart, but it really reveals to the
responder that these implications last a lifetime.

Proper grip is very crucial when holding a softball bat as well as the softball. The way you hold
the ball will determine the accuracy and speed you can apply to it. Every softball players should

The most usual type of grip is called the four seam grip. It is when the ball rotates in one full

In the beginning of the story the plot stays the same for the most part... other than Beowulf being
motivated by other things than glory or pride. When Grendel is killed in the movie they
introduce his mother, they don t show her face but they hint to her being very seductive by the
way she talks. Grendel s mom doesn t really seek revenge in the movie but Hrothgar asks
Beowulf to kill her because of a prior incident (Grendel is actually Hrothgar s son) with Grendel
s mom. Beowulf obliges and goes to kill G s mom but when he enter her den he is almost
instantly taken away by her beauty, this causes Beowulf to have a lapse in judgement and
impregnate G s mom. This is very different from the book because in the book he kills G s mom
in a battle to the death then cuts the head off of Grendel s dead body as illustrated Armless,
exactly as that fierce fighter had sent him out from Herot, then struck off His head with a single
swift blow (542). Also after Beowulf was seduced he goes back to Hrothgar and lies to him and
the Danes saying that he has killed Grendel s mother. This is the major plot difference in the
movie and the book. The overall theme/message is also different from the book to the movie.
For example in the book the book the theme is good vs. evil, Beowulf being good and Grendel
being. This however is not the case in the movie, the theme in the movie is more like don t cheat
on your spouse and don t lie to the people you rule or else it will come back to haunt you. This
quite the difference, but I believe the writers of the movie did this to make a point or to send a
message to the people watching

Hamlet Film Vs Film Essay
Over the course of the past fifty years there have been many cinematic productions of
Shakespeare s Hamlet, some of which remain true to the text while others take greater liberties
with the original format. Director Kenneth Branagh s 1996 production of Hamlet was true to
Shakespeare s work in that the film s dialogue was delivered word or word as it is presented in the
text. In contrast, Franco Zeffirelli conducted his 1990 production of Hamletin a much more liberal
direction in which lines, scenes and characters were omitted from the film. I argue that from the
perspective of an individual with moderate knowledge in Shakespearian literature, that the best film

Both the first and the third of the aforementioned changes that Zeffirelli made to the film have a
minor impact on the audience s understanding of the underlying themes that exist throughout the
play.
In act 3 scene 3 Claudius performs his soliloquy which acts like a window into the true nature of
Claudius guilt. This excerpt of the play is the first time we encounter Claudius confess blame for
the crime against his brother. This self confession further demonstrates the guilt that Claudius
exhibits in act 3 scene 2 when Claudius flees the theater after Hamlet arranges a play reenacting
the events of his father s murder. As Claudius states on line 56, May one be pardoned and retain
th offense? This line depicts the true nature of Claudius guilt: He does not regret his actions, for
his actions have granted him My crown, mine own ambition and my queen. (3.2.55) Claudius is
content with his gains, his only guilt stems from the fact that he believes he will not go to heaven
because of his actions. Zeffirelli as opposed to Branagh shortens this soliloquy which causes a loss
of perception into the complex role that guilt plays throughout the story.
Like the presence of the theme of guilt, the film also neglects the theme of war. The character of
Fortinbras is important because his invasion of Poland brings forth the literal act of war, which is a

In paragraph eight, Emerson explains that one of the influences on man is nature. The people and
events of the time period can effect how a person thinks. The nature around Man Thinking can also
be the society that the person is in. In society today, people tend to be put into groups. Emerson
goes on to explain that the mind is tyrannized over by its own unifying instinct , meaning that
people want to belong, and by wanting to belong, they change who they are so that they conform
to the standards of society. Man Thinking is the person who steps out of the box that society has
put them in and refuses to accept the role that they have been giving. Instead of accepting
everything that people say and do, Man Thinking ask, Why? , while Delegated Thinking does the
exact opposite. Delegated Thinking accepts everything, they do not step past the boundary. The
little box that society has place them in remains intact. Man Thinking is the leader, they show the
way and create new paths, not just for themselves, but for others, while Delegated Thinking
follows the path, they look at it as the truth and the only way to get around the obstacle. An

The Opening Night In The Theater Play Analysis
As the lights dim in the theatre, I know that my husband is in for an interesting experience, as he

Boy, was I right.

There are many Types of Security
Back to the question at hand, when is too much security too much? The turning point is different
for each situation. A home computer can have too much security when the user installs two
separate security programs. These programs then end up fighting each other and not protecting
the computer at all. For a business it can be when the company begins to lose money by having
less time to be productive. A simple example would be when a company installs an auto log off
feature that terminates a user s session after they do not do any actions for ten minutes. After a
month of testing the new feature the employees report that they feel as though they are spending as
much time logging in as they are doing any work. To help decide when a system has too much
securitycan easily be solved when dealing with obvious issues, but if the task becomes harder the
issue can be solved in a formulaic fashion. In the study An Analytical Security Model for Existing
Software Systems by Ayaz Isazadeh and a few other researchers, over the course of four years,
developed a formula for how much security would be needed per architectural system. This type of
study helps more than simple businesses, governments everywhere take the information into
consideration when creating or changing their system. For example, the U.S. government is wrote

Stereotypes And Prejudice Essay
How does this work?
At first I had to distinguish the difference between a stereotype and being prejudice. According
to the authors of our text Sensoy and DiAngelo, prejudice is a learned prejudgment about
members of social groups to which we don t belong. It is also based on limited knowledge about
a group of people. Judgments are made based on these prejudices and applied to everyone in a
social group. The learned prejudgment that our authors are talking about is what is referred to as a
stereotype. A stereotype is a belief about a certain group of people, while prejudiceis a feeling based
on their membership to a certain group with a stereotype.

Gaining knowledge about a social group is a path to minimizing the effect of our prejudice, which

One of our assignments assigned in the course called the Funds of Knowledge I believe is a way

knowledge to minimize the effect that our stereotypes in our classroom.
What explicit and implicit valuing of certain groups (p. 30) do you notice in your school or
elsewhere? Are there social benefits and penalties associated with them?
I don t know if I see a lot of explicit valuing of any group of students at my school. I know through

procedures and meeting expectations.
I think I see more implicit valuing being done. This could be in the form of using stereotypes of
social groups when it comes to dealing with parents. I have heard teachers talking about parents

The Problem Of Evil In Richard Swinburne s Natural Evil
In Richard Swinburne s Natural Evil, he argues that the free will defense accounts for the
existence of evil. Following Swinburne s example, I will argue that the Problem of Evil does not
give us good reason to believe that an omnipotent, benevolent deity does not exist. To do so, I will
first summarize Epicurus original question of the problem of evil. Then, I will defend my claim by
proposing the free willdefense. Furthermore, I will discuss how the concepts of benevolence and
omnipotence are inconsistent with the definition of God according to the free will defense.
Lastly, I will address and respond to a possible objection to my argument. In David Hume s
Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, he claims that Epicurus s old question is yet unanswered.
(Cahn, end of page 958) The question he refers to are the following: Is he willing to prevent evil,
but not able? Then he is impotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both
able and willing? Whence then is evil? (Cahn, end of page 958, beginning of page 959) The he
specifies God. Thus, the question can be translated to the following: God is good if he wants to
prevent evil. If God does not want to prevent evil, he is bad. If God can prevent evil, he is all
powerful. If God cannot prevent evil, he is not all powerful. Therefore, if God is both good and all
powerful, then evil should not exist. Furthermore, it concludes that because evil exists in the world,

The Difference Between The Women Situation Of Ireland From...
Introduction
The aim of this report is to compare the difference between the women situation in Ireland from the
independence till the present day, how it changed during those years.
One of the biggest impacts to Irish society in the past 50 years has been the changing the role of
women, with more females participating in the workforce and more in professional positions and
this has caused relationship and family dynamics to shift.
Until the last few years of the twentieth century Ireland was the most sexually repressed country in
Europe, where women were classed as the second type citizens and the Catholic Church ruled
virtually unchallenged. Church and state maintained that women should hold a certain morality,
particularly relating to areas of sexuality and reproduction. As a result, until relatively recently, Irish
women s issues remained largely ignored and therefore unremarked upon.
(Irish Constitution 1922)
One of the questions facing the Cosgrave government in 1922 with the establishment of the Irish
Free State was the role of women in the new State. The 1916 Proclamation of the Republic had
claimed the allegiance of every Irishman and Irishwoman and guaranteed equal rights and equal
opportunities to all its citizens . All had their hopes dashed. Both governments led by Cosgrave in
the 1920s and Fianna Fail governments led by de Valera in the 1930s enacted legislation depriving
women of a number of rights.
In 1924, the government proposed to exempt all

words he uses and in the Federalists Papers they use logical reasoning and their creditbilty to
convince the people. When Thomas Jeffersonwirtes the Declaration of Independence he wirtes it
to explain why the American colonies will be seperating from Great Britian. He does that by
using logos. For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering

The French Revolution of 1789 Essay
There is no doubt that the French Revolution has had a profound effect on the world. The cause or
causes of it have been greatly disputed. Clearly the Revolution s primary cause was the presence of
a weak monarchy and a lack of a stable system of government. France s absolute monarchy had
many changes toward the end of the eighteenth century. King Louis XVI, in his attempts to
consolidate his authority and lessen the power of the aristocrats, had planned out an intendant
system. The intendants were like governors. They would oversee one constituency of the country.
These intendants could not govern the region in which they lived, and were chosen from other than
the aristocracy. This insured that their allegiance was pledged to the king and... Show more content

There were three divisions or classes in France called estates. The first estate, which was
composed of church officials, had immense authority and obtained enormous salaries. Church
officials obtained their salaries via taxes collected from church property. Therefore, since the
officials received their salaries from the church property, they did not have to pay taxes. The
second estate was composed mainly of nobility. They, too, were exempt from paying taxes. This
left the entire tax burden upon the third estate. The third estate consisted of some merchants and
entrepreneurs; however, the majorities were peasants. Corruption of the estates was causing
much frustration among the common people who composed 70 percent of the population. The
monarchy tried to make an attempt to give the third estate power by establishing the Estate s
General, but this too was corrupted. Unlike most legislative bodies, the Estate s General did not
vote by each person having a single vote. Rather, they let each estate have one vote each. Since
the first two estates were always in agreement, the third estate was always out voted. This is a
prime example of how the lack of a stable government had an immensely tragic effect on the
people of the country. If the monarchy had tried to make some reform or if Louis XVI had more
backbone to institute some tax reform to lessen the burden on the third estate, the Revolution may
have been avoided. The government is the backbone of any

Advantages Of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
3.1 Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Statistical Process Control is an analytical decision making tools which allow us to see when a
process is working correctly and when it is not. Variation is present in any process, deciding when
the variation is natural and when it needs correction is the key to quality control.
The foundation for Statistical Process Control was laid by Dr. Walter Shewart working in the Bell
Telephone Laboratories in the 1920s conducting research on methods to improve quality and lower
costs. He developed the concept of control with regard to variation, and came up with Statistical
Process Control Charts which provide a simple way to determine if the process is in control or not.
Dr. W. Edwards Demingbuilt upon Shewart s work and took the concepts to Japan following
WWII. There, Japanese industry adopted the concepts whole heartedly. The resulting high quality
of Japanese products is world renowned. Dr. Deming is famous throughout Japan as a God of
quality . Today, SPC is used in manufacturing facilities around the world.

It provides a means of detecting error at inspection.

Supervise the process so that the operators quickly notice if a new assignable cause is introduced in
the process, in such case eliminate it.
When the SPC program is performed the process variation will be reduced, the cost of poor
quality will decrease and the product quality will improve. To achieve the objectives above, a set
of useful tools called the Magnificent Seven can be used. The Magnificent Seven or the Seven
Quality Control (7QC) tools are graphical statistical tools and methods for continuous improvement.

Fairytales May Convey a Hidden Message
As innocent as they seem, from the cute fairytales of Cinderella and her submissive character to
the passionate story of Beauty and the Beast, a maiden who falls in love with a beast, the true
meaning that lies beneath the pretty shell delivers a different message to children. The idea of the
traditional role of women is constantly portrayed in many fairytales. Fairytales, although fantasy
like, still resemble aspects of the world and throughout history, women were considered inferior to
men. ...it is a fair assumption that in a world dominated by men, the fairy talereflects the world as
defined and organized by men... (Oliver 86). Stories such as The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian

(Oliver 87). With the loving father and the envious mother , the message sent to children can be
misleading and one sided.
Another example of the wicked step mother is illustrated in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
The innocent beauty, Snow White, and her feminine charms are similar to the common house wife
by doing chores around the house while maintaining a certain image of perfection and beauty. Her
step mother is in competition with Snow White; activeness and power versus submissiveness and
obedience. The competition between Snow white and the queen turns into a struggle for survival
between two halves of a single personality: passivity and tractability as opposed to inventive and
subversive activism. (Barzilai 520). Once again, another fairytale shows the rivalry which the
mother figure is set to destroy the daughter. The over assertive woman (in this case, the queen) is
represented as an envious monster. The queen is characterized throughout in unremittingly negative
terms: she is most often deemed wicked , but she is also proud, overbearing, and envious. (Barzilai
520). There are many examples in Fairyland which give a bad reputation towards the step mother or
the mother figure.
Beauty and the Beast is a popular fairytale about a girl who falls in love with a beast and in return
the beast becomes her prince. Luckily, for Belle,

Law Enforcement Within The United States
Law Enforcement officers have one of the most critical jobs in the United States. Their lives are
always on the line and they are of high regards. This means they cannot fail! The results of their
jobs do not only depend on their actions but also on the people. What this means is the community
has a huge role when it comes to solving crime. Though many people may not believe it, they are
the key to a successful crime prevention community. The people of the United States don t really
understand both the positive and negative effects that community policing actually brings. Some
may say it is very dangerous based on their experiences. Others may say it s the best way to do
away with crime. Today the two will be compared and put to test by true officers serving our
country. The facts will be stated and questions will be answered. Let s take a look at what
community policing is really all about!
Law Enforcement within the United States is limited as many people may feel that it is a dangerous
job. With law enforcement being so limited there is one way the community can and has assisted
throughout the years. Community policing is the system of allocating police officers to particular
areas so that they become familiar with the local inhabitants. In other words community policing
allows law enforcement to be at high profile areas while the community who chooses to be
involved is the eyes and ears for law enforcement. In other words were there is crime the
community will

Circulating Tumor Cells ( Ctcs )
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs)
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs), represent tumor cells that contain a heterogeneous populace of
cells, including apoptotic tumor and viable tumor cells that have shed into the vasculature or
lymphatics from a primary or metastatic tumor and are carried around the body in the circulation
by undergoing phenotypic changes that are accompanied by a process called as epithelial
mesenchymal transition (EMT) 64 68. Evidence now suggests that the tumors has ability to make

However, it is not necessarily always associated with metastasis, as only 0.01% of CTCs takes part
in metastasis92, 94, 95. Moreover, highly sensitive, single cell investigation showed marked
heterogeneity of individual CTCs for protein expression and localization, and the CTCs reflected
the character of both the primary biopsy and the transformations seen in the metastatic sites96, 97,
which corresponds with the evidence of seed and soil hypothesis98 100.
Amassing proof has demonstrated that CTCs can be utilized as a biomarker to non invasively
supervise cancer progression and provide direction to monitor the treatment101 103. The American
Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) approved CTCs as a tumor marker for breast cancer in
2007104, 105.
Nevertheless, CTCs detection, identification, enumeration and molecular characterization are very
challenging, since CTCs are uncommon in peripheral blood of patients (that is, 1 100 CTCs
among billions of normal cells) with a half life between 1 to 2.4 hours and due to its fragile nature
it tends to degrade when collected in standard blood collecting tubes106 109, 110, 111.
CTCs being heterogeneous population of cells, CTCs can be positively or negatively enriched on
the basis of: 1. Physical characteristics (that is, cell diameter 15 Ојm, nuclear cytoplasmic ratio 0.8,

College as great as it is, is expensive. It can be a burden just thinking about how to pay off our
student loans. Although, one of the greatest ways of relieving this burden is through scholarships!
If I were to receive this scholarship, it would help a great deal in relieving some of the financial
need for my education. I have several siblings my parents are probably also worrying about too.
It takes a lot of money to send four people to college. But with this scholarship, I hope I can
alleviate some of the money for my brothers and sister. It would mean a lot to me if could make
my parents by not having to worry about me as much. Scholarships like this are stepping stones
for students like me trying to get into college. After I am done with college at Mississippi State, I

nothing to build a solid fortification. Lord Cornwallis had to use earth and wood to build protection

squadron of the French Cavalry held the north side of the bay. General Washington and the French
nobleman General Lafayette surrounded Lord Cornwallis on the south side of the bay with General

revenues, timing differences, concealed liabilities amp; expense, improper asset valuation, or asset

This is achieved by inflating the company s assets, net earnings, and/or equity. To understate
liabilities the company would not record accrued liabilities or accounts payable, service or
warranty liabilities, loans (or keep liabilities completely off of the company books), contingent
liabilities, and record unearned revenues as earned revenue.
Improper Asset Valuation
The more assets a creditor, lender, or investor can view on a company s books the more
appealing the companies are to the creditor s, lender s, or investors. Assets are used to earn the
company money in order to pay or pay off its debt. This can cause improper asset valuation of such
accounts as: accounts receivable, fixed assets, and or inventory. Considering the complexity of
inventory records, management finds inventory as an attractive place to commit financial statement
fraud. Inventory is sometimes comprised of larger number items and distributed from several
locations making it easier for the improper creation of estimates for slow moving or dated goods.
Additionally, management will create non existing inventory, manipulate the physical count, fail to
record the actual purchase, and improperly capitalize inventory, (Colby, n.d).

Analysis Of The Man In Mccarthy s The Road
In a world that was changed by chaos, The Man remained the same man from the beginning of the
novel until the end. Throughout his journey on The Road, The Man s dedication to the survival of
The Boy and never faltered, and stayed constant no matter what life threw at him. The Man ended
his expedition on The Roadthe same manas when he started it.
At the beginning of the novel, the reader is introduced to the one defining character trait of The
Man: his devotion to his son. This concept is a staple in The Man s personality, and greatly
affects his actions. We see his devotion through small acts like how The Man sleeps with The
Boy to keep him warm and how The Boy always drinks, eats, and bathes before The Man. The
reader sees a larger example of this commitment when a bad guy threatened The Boy with a knife.
The Man swiftly and ruthlessly shot the man who fell back instantly and lay with blood bubbling
from the hole in his forehead. (McCarthy.). Rather than simply incapacitating the bad guy, The Man
made sure that at least that man would never be able to hurt or threaten The Boy again. The Man is
not only devoted to his son, but he is committed to his goals of heading South. Even though they
made some stops along the way, the idea of getting South and to the shore never wavered from The
Man s head. The intensity that The Man devoted to protecting The Boy continued as their journey
did. When someone started shooting the two men with arrows, the readers were treated to

How Stressful Life Experiences Affect A Child s Emotional...
This annotated bibliography covers six journal, reports and articles associated with the subject of
how stressful life experiences can affect a child s emotional development, what role the schools
play in a child s emotional development and how there is a need for the Department of Education
to commission a sector body to develop a framework of core content for initial teacher training
(ITT), which should include child and adolescent development.
A child s emotional development is a complex, multifaceted process and one which many
interaction partners play a role. To teach effectively, trainee teachers need to understand child
development expectations at different stages of development together with issues that can have an
impact on the child s progress.
The research literature has accentuated the association between stressful experiences and
psychological dysfunction in children and evidence has been found which suggests that there is a
need for continuity across Initial teacher training institutes. ITT should be an environment for new
teachers to learn from the best teachers, introducing them to essential skills, knowledge and
understanding that all teachers require in order to continuously improve the opportunities and
outcomes of young people.
The authors of this study compared the judgements of trainee teachers with the responses of young
children regarding their perceptions of student stress. The study compiled questions such as: Does

  • 2. Why Is Mark Twain Wrong When people think of the greatest works of literature, the first thing that most people would think of is great epics or massive adventure stories with eloquent and verbose descriptions. Usually said works are devoid of any grammatical errors or faultless in structure, organization, and characterization. However, Mark Twainproved everyone wrong by his work in The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin. His interesting style of writing proved that the character s viewpoint of the story itself is more important than staying within reason of correct grammar usage. Mark Twain was easily the most influential writer of his time because of how and why he wrote his novels. Mark Twain often writes in first person style, and it is evident with how the English... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His unique and revolutionary writing style still stand out among other famous works of literature to this day, even with the criticism and heat it received upon its publication back in 1885. The way that Twain conveyed his inner love for the south and its diverse people and culture made The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin a novel that can, and will stand the test of time in being one of literature s best works. Twain effectively proved that a refined dialect is not needed to create a masterpiece in the form of a novel, but rather it is how the characters and setting in the story are described in the light they are presented in. The way Mark Twain warped the language and dialect of the text to appeal to the southern states is still a marvel to appreciate to this day. Even if some say that Twain s writing is not the correct way to be writing a novel, he still managed to depict a certain culture so perfectly that authors to this day wish they had his talent in descriptive ... • 3. Salary Wages In Corrections On a cold, bitter morning standing in a yard watching people move about, the wind stirs fallen leaves on the ground. Offenders move to the place they are to be. A thought pops into the head of the officers watching the yard; was this the right choice. Then a fight breaks out, time to go to work. This is a question that everyone thinks about as they examine their career choices. In Roth s book The Achievement Habit, it reads that the road is not always straight but with curves and turns intersect it. In the book Much Ado About Nothing, there are many romances, fights, and hatred between characters. The couples of Benedick and Beatrice, and Claudio and Hero all describe a love between them, and the very same for hatred. Much ado about nothingis about all of the romance that can go through rough patches. In Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, Antonio is a foil for Leonato because of their opinions, emotions, and thoughts. The opinions of Antonio and Leonato differ by many standards of their own. This is happening during the wedding of Hero and Claudio and it happens after the shaming. An example of this is when Leonato said Hence from her, Let her die (Shakespeare 70). When Leonato says this he is at a wedding for his daughter hero, but has become enraged when he hears false ... On the other hand Antonio claims Yet bend not all the harm upon yourself. Make those that do offend you suffer too (Shakespeare 82). Antonio says this because he thinks that the people who shame or offend leonatos family should suffer along with him. • 6. Social Action Theories Essay Social action theories are known as micro theories which take a bottom up approach to studying society; they look at how individuals within society interact with each other. There are many forms of social action theories, the main ones being symbolic interactionism, phenomenology and ethnomethodology. They are all based on the work of Max Weber, a sociologist, who acknowledged that structural factors can shape our behaviour but individuals do have reasons for their actions. He used this to explain why people behave in the way in which they do within society. Weber saw four types of actions which are commonly committed within society; rational, this includes logical plans which are used to achieve goals, traditional customary behaviour,... The looking glass self this was created by Cooley who argues that we see ourselves in a way in which we think others see us. • 7. What Is The Myth Of Sisyphus The bus was silent, no one daring to speak. We had just suffered the first loss in more than 10 years to one of the competing schools to make it to the state tournament for tennis. This bus ride home from the tournament in Green Bay gave me sufficient time to reflect on my matches and on the sport as a whole. Tennis is a sport of repetition. You playpoints over and over again until a match is complete, matches until a tournament is complete, and then the whole process repeats a couple weeks later. This reminded me of the myth of Sisyphus. Sisyphus was a kind who upon his death was tasked with rolling a boulder up a hill. However, as soon as he pushed the stone to the top it rolled back down to the bottom and he had to start again. While this is seen as a punishment in the myth I see it as a blessing. ... This is a blessing because we have the free will to associate value to something inherently valueless and put effort and time into it to make ourselves better. So by giving Sisyphus this task to repeat endlessly for eternity, they actually blessed him by giving him something to attach meaning to. In the same way tennis gives me something to attach meaning to and better myself through a game that will not improve me academically or as a person. The terror attacks on September 11, 2001, introduced a new form of enemy and in response, the government invoked the residual ideology of militarism to combat this enemy instead of turning to an emergent ideology, or a new, creative way of facing this new enemy. The Bush administration declared the war on terrorism and in solidarity with those affected by the terror attacks, the public supported the government s actions (Foner). However, the enemy of this war was loosely defined as those who hate freedom and the board definition included all terrorist groups around the world that poses a threat to the Western world and the freedom it represents (Foner). The first act of war under the war on terrorism was when the Taliban, the terrorist group responsible for the tragedy on September 11, refused to give up its leader Osama bin Laden and the United States responded with air strikes (Foner). To the public, this military action against Afghanistan and the Taliban seemed justified because the Taliban was the group responsible for the terror attacks. However, with the enemy so ambiguously defined and without a clear agenda, the government was able to take free rein of the direction of the war and possible self interest came into play. The government identified the axis of evil as Iraq, Iran, and North Korea, and claimed that these three countries harbored weapons of mass destruction, or nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, and planned to use these weapons on the United States; this claim was not supported by evidence (Foner). As the United States went to war with Iraq under this unjustified accusation, dissent rose around the world and many suspected that the true intention was to fight for control over the world s second largest oil reserves in Iraq (Foner). Its international trade volume had risen from US$20.6 in 1978 to US$1,422 billion in 2005 (Wang amp; Liu, 2007). Since China s exports mainly focus on the labor intensive and resource intensive industries, this exports pattern causes a serious environmental problem in China. Green barriers become a kind of emerging non tariff barrier which is used for the developed countries to protect their production and economic development in recent years. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, Green barriers are the outcome of economic development . On the one hand, production and development of technology increase people s income and living standards. On the other hand, it has irreversible negative influence on the natural resources and environment, such as desert encroachment, deforestation, water shortages, acid rain, biodiversity reduction (Wang amp; Liu, 2007, p.2). Therefore, many regulations and principles point out that international trade must integrate with the environment and the economic development. To this extent, green barriers have a rational and positive effect on protecting environment as well as the health of human beings, animals and plants. Specifically, the reasons are explained as follows. First, a green barrier has been widely accepted by WTO members in principle as an environmental measure related to trade. The European Union has applied ISO 14000 to request all imported goods meet environment standards. Second, green barriers are not only embodied in environmental and technological effects, but also in aligning world production according to true comparative advantage. One country will have a positive effect on its neighbor and global environment through protecting the environment, so green barriers has a positive global externality. • 18. Neutralisation Reaction Lab Report 1. What is a neutralisation reaction? A neutralisation reaction is a chemical reaction that occurs when equivalent amounts of acid and a base react to produce salt and water (H2O) (The FreeDictionary.com,2017). The H+(q) ions from an acid react with the OH‾ ions from an alkali. The equation for this reaction is: H+(aq)+OH‾(aq)=H2O(l). For example, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solution react with each other and form water and sodium chloride solution. The acid consists of H+ ions and Cl‾ ions, and the alkali contains Na+ ions and OH‾ ions. The H+ ions and OH‾ ions create water, and the Na+ ions and Cl‾ ions create sodium chloride, NaCl (aq) (Bbc.co.uk,2017). 2. Did neutralisation reaction occur in the practical? Explain. ... Without land available for the opening of new athletic fields, there simply are not enough sports fields to meet the needs of the town s population. In an effort to solve this dilemma, the proposal has been made by the New Providence Partnership for Recreation (NPPR) to install lightingin Lieder Field. The benefits to the community include an increase in hours each day the fieldmay be used at no expense to the taxpayer. Yet, others in the community believe that outdoor sports lighting would have a negative impact on the quality of life in the community, be too costly and would diminish the property value of nearby homes. While athletic field lights have been used in southern New Jersey without these negative impacts that part of the state is significantly more rural than densely populated New Providence. A Short Note On Speech Sign Semantic Equivalence Essay ANALYSIS OF SPEECH SIGN SEMANTIC EQUIVALENCE IN SIMULTANEAOUS COMMUNICATION IN KENYA By Adoyo Peter Oracha Department of special needs education, Maseno University, P.O Box 333, Maseno Kenya. 1.0Introduction Effective communication between teacher and pupil is a requisite factor for educational attainment. For the deaf, ineffective communication is a major problem especially when onset of profound deafness takes places at an early age before language is acquired. At school, the language of classroom communication not only affects the child s development but also influences ability to learn other curriculum contents. Pointing out reasons for failure by deaf children to compete favorably with their hearing peers, Johnson et al (1989) has indicated that the central problem on deaf education is embedded in the lack of an appropriate language of classroom communication. For a long time education for the deaf was conducted through the oral approach. It was later realized that this oral approach did not avail curriculum content to the deaf learners. In the 1980 s Total Communication arose as one of the solutions. According to Adoyo(2004), Total Communication was misunderstood for Simultaneous Communication, a communication system in which speech and sign are produced at the same time (Lane, Hoffmister Bahan, 1996). The journal article addresses the issue of undergraduate women using slut shaming and the actual reason women participate in it. 2.The theory being tested in the article is that women participate in slut shaming as a way for them to distance or separate themselves from other women. The reason they separate themselves is a way for women to categorize other women into different statuses and a way for themselves to maintain their own status. The status classes women are categorized in are linked to the social class they are a part of. Slut shaming among women is not necessarily based on their sexual acts, but of the way they act as a woman. The theory also states that slut shaming is also a result of male dominance and female submission. The slut label was created by men due to a double standard created by society. Symbolism is used by authors, musicians, priests, and many others. James Joyce, a well known Irish author, uses symbolism repeatedly throughout his collection of short stories published in 1916. In these stories, titled Dubliners, Joyce uses symbolism not only to enhance the stories, but to also show the hidden, underlying message of each story without coming out and saying it directly. The bicycle pump symbolizes the kid s pumped up, full of hot air, fascination with the girl and then being deflated. The apple tree and bicycle pump are clues to the outcome of the story. The boy also discovers three important and symbolic books in his house. Hamlet Film Vs Film Essay Over the course of the past fifty years there have been many cinematic productions of Shakespeare s Hamlet, some of which remain true to the text while others take greater liberties with the original format. Director Kenneth Branagh s 1996 production of Hamlet was true to Shakespeare s work in that the film s dialogue was delivered word or word as it is presented in the text. In contrast, Franco Zeffirelli conducted his 1990 production of Hamletin a much more liberal direction in which lines, scenes and characters were omitted from the film. I argue that from the perspective of an individual with moderate knowledge in Shakespearian literature, that the best film versions of Hamletare those that take the most liberties from the text. I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both the first and the third of the aforementioned changes that Zeffirelli made to the film have a minor impact on the audience s understanding of the underlying themes that exist throughout the play. In act 3 scene 3 Claudius performs his soliloquy which acts like a window into the true nature of Claudius guilt. This excerpt of the play is the first time we encounter Claudius confess blame for the crime against his brother. This self confession further demonstrates the guilt that Claudius exhibits in act 3 scene 2 when Claudius flees the theater after Hamlet arranges a play reenacting the events of his father s murder. As Claudius states on line 56, May one be pardoned and retain th offense? This line depicts the true nature of Claudius guilt: He does not regret his actions, for his actions have granted him My crown, mine own ambition and my queen. (3.2.55) Claudius is content with his gains, his only guilt stems from the fact that he believes he will not go to heaven because of his actions. • 33. Man Thinking Rhetorical Analysis Emerson s essay is extremely insightful and interesting. It brings to light the many adversities of the people of the community and Man Thinking . Emerson explains that the reason people people are afraid of certain concepts or action is that Fear always springs from ignorance . By bringing this concept to light he causes the reader to want to become Man Thinking , or, someone who thinks for themselves instead of being a puppet to society. His tone throughout the passage is persuasive and passionate about what it is to be the true Man Thinking . Throughout the essay Emerson uses many contradicting topics. In paragraph eight, Emerson explains that one of the influences on man is nature. The people and events of the time period can effect how a person thinks. The nature around Man Thinking can also be the society that the person is in. In society today, people tend to be put into groups. Emerson goes on to explain that the mind is tyrannized over by its own unifying instinct , meaning that people want to belong, and by wanting to belong, they change who they are so that they conform to the standards of society. Man Thinking is the person who steps out of the box that society has put them in and refuses to accept the role that they have been giving. Instead of accepting everything that people say and do, Man Thinking ask, Why? , while Delegated Thinking does the exact opposite. Delegated Thinking accepts everything, they do not step past the boundary. The little box that society has place them in remains intact. Man Thinking is the leader, they show the way and create new paths, not just for themselves, but for others, while Delegated Thinking follows the path, they look at it as the truth and the only way to get around the obstacle. The Opening Night In The Theater Play Analysis As the lights dim in the theatre, I know that my husband is in for an interesting experience, as he has no background knowledge (other than the quick Cole s notes version I gave in the car ride to Grand Bend) about the iconic Broadway sensation Chicago. Boy, was I right. The opening night of Drayton Entertainment s Chicago at the Huron Country Playhouse had the audience captured from the start. Lots of long legs, toned abs and barely there costumes along with amazing musically talented ensemble definitely grab the attention of all in the theatre. This is not a show for young children! The darker, sultry side of life in the 1920s Chicago comes alive through edgy dancing, strong musical numbers and humour as the cast razzle dazzles its way through the story of the two divas, Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, who vie for the spotlight in Cook County Jail after doing away with their cheating lovers. • 35. There are many Types of Security Back to the question at hand, when is too much security too much? The turning point is different for each situation. A home computer can have too much security when the user installs two separate security programs. These programs then end up fighting each other and not protecting the computer at all. For a business it can be when the company begins to lose money by having less time to be productive. A simple example would be when a company installs an auto log off feature that terminates a user s session after they do not do any actions for ten minutes. After a month of testing the new feature the employees report that they feel as though they are spending as much time logging in as they are doing any work. To help decide when a system has too much securitycan easily be solved when dealing with obvious issues, but if the task becomes harder the issue can be solved in a formulaic fashion. In the study An Analytical Security Model for Existing Software Systems by Ayaz Isazadeh and a few other researchers, over the course of four years, developed a formula for how much security would be needed per architectural system. This type of study helps more than simple businesses, governments everywhere take the information into consideration when creating or changing their system. According to the authors of our text Sensoy and DiAngelo, prejudice is a learned prejudgment about members of social groups to which we don t belong. It is also based on limited knowledge about a group of people. Judgments are made based on these prejudices and applied to everyone in a social group. The learned prejudgment that our authors are talking about is what is referred to as a stereotype. • 37. The Problem Of Evil In Richard Swinburne s Natural Evil In Richard Swinburne s Natural Evil, he argues that the free will defense accounts for the existence of evil. Following Swinburne s example, I will argue that the Problem of Evil does not give us good reason to believe that an omnipotent, benevolent deity does not exist. To do so, I will first summarize Epicurus original question of the problem of evil. Then, I will defend my claim by proposing the free willdefense. Furthermore, I will discuss how the concepts of benevolence and omnipotence are inconsistent with the definition of God according to the free will defense. Lastly, I will address and respond to a possible objection to my argument. In David Hume s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, he claims that Epicurus s old question is yet unanswered. (Cahn, end of page 958) The question he refers to are the following: Is he willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is impotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Whence then is evil? (Cahn, end of page 958, beginning of page 959) The he specifies God. Thus, the question can be translated to the following: God is good if he wants to prevent evil. If God does not want to prevent evil, he is bad. If God can prevent evil, he is all powerful. If God cannot prevent evil, he is not all powerful. Therefore, if God is both good and all powerful, then evil should not exist. Introduction The aim of this report is to compare the difference between the women situation in Ireland from the independence till the present day, how it changed during those years. One of the biggest impacts to Irish society in the past 50 years has been the changing the role of women, with more females participating in the workforce and more in professional positions and this has caused relationship and family dynamics to shift. Until the last few years of the twentieth century Ireland was the most sexually repressed country in Europe, where women were classed as the second type citizens and the Catholic Church ruled virtually unchallenged. Church and state maintained that women should hold a certain morality, particularly relating to areas of sexuality and reproduction. As a result, until relatively recently, Irish women s issues remained largely ignored and therefore unremarked upon. (Irish Constitution 1922) One of the questions facing the Cosgrave government in 1922 with the establishment of the Irish Free State was the role of women in the new State. The 1916 Proclamation of the Republic had claimed the allegiance of every Irishman and Irishwoman and guaranteed equal rights and equal opportunities to all its citizens . All had their hopes dashed. Both governments led by Cosgrave in the 1920s and Fianna Fail governments led by de Valera in the 1930s enacted legislation depriving women of a number of rights. • 40. The French Revolution of 1789 Essay There is no doubt that the French Revolution has had a profound effect on the world. The cause or causes of it have been greatly disputed. Clearly the Revolution s primary cause was the presence of a weak monarchy and a lack of a stable system of government. France s absolute monarchy had many changes toward the end of the eighteenth century. King Louis XVI, in his attempts to consolidate his authority and lessen the power of the aristocrats, had planned out an intendant system. The intendants were like governors. They would oversee one constituency of the country. These intendants could not govern the region in which they lived, and were chosen from other than the aristocracy. The first estate, which was composed of church officials, had immense authority and obtained enormous salaries. Church officials obtained their salaries via taxes collected from church property. Therefore, since the officials received their salaries from the church property, they did not have to pay taxes. The second estate was composed mainly of nobility. They, too, were exempt from paying taxes. This left the entire tax burden upon the third estate. The third estate consisted of some merchants and entrepreneurs; however, the majorities were peasants. Corruption of the estates was causing much frustration among the common people who composed 70 percent of the population. The monarchy tried to make an attempt to give the third estate power by establishing the Estate s General, but this too was corrupted. Unlike most legislative bodies, the Estate s General did not vote by each person having a single vote. Rather, they let each estate have one vote each. Since the first two estates were always in agreement, the third estate was always out voted. This is a prime example of how the lack of a stable government had an immensely tragic effect on the people of the country. If the monarchy had tried to make some reform or if Louis XVI had more backbone to institute some tax reform to lessen the burden on the third estate, the Revolution may have been avoided. Variation is present in any process, deciding when the variation is natural and when it needs correction is the key to quality control. The foundation for Statistical Process Control was laid by Dr. Walter Shewart working in the Bell Telephone Laboratories in the 1920s conducting research on methods to improve quality and lower costs. He developed the concept of control with regard to variation, and came up with Statistical Process Control Charts which provide a simple way to determine if the process is in control or not. Dr. W. Edwards Demingbuilt upon Shewart s work and took the concepts to Japan following WWII. There, Japanese industry adopted the concepts whole heartedly. The resulting high quality of Japanese products is world renowned. Dr. Deming is famous throughout Japan as a God of quality . Her step mother is in competition with Snow White; activeness and power versus submissiveness and obedience.
