Letters on England by Voltaire
Letters on England is a small collection of letters written by Voltaire (born François Marie Arouet) in
1733 which offers a survey of societal England from the view of a Frenchmen. The original Letters on
England, titled Lettres philosophiques, was written in English by Voltaire. This first edition was quite
a cumbersome read and so in 1980 Leonard Tancock retranslated the book to English from a previous
French edition. Just a few years prior to the release of Letters on England, Voltaire had been
imprisoned by France and then exiled to England. This incarceration and banishment was in response
to satirical compositions written by Voltaire that the French political powers felt undermined their
rule. Despite harsh censorship laws, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to insights on religion, Voltaire also detailed his own understanding of the politics and
economics in Europe during the time of the Enlightenment. During this time, an absolute monarchy
ruled France while the English had what Voltaire saw as a limited monarch with an involved
democracy. France was ruled using bribery, force, and corruption while England was governed though
compromise and negotiations. Voltaire himself believed in political moderation and defense of civil
liberties. He also observed the differences in economics between the two countries. Free trade was
discouraged in France, to the point that some noblemen lost their rank if they participated in such
commerce. Contrasting this, Voltaire saw that the English encouraged trade and tradesmen were even
held in high regards. He believed that this difference in economics was what gave England access to
their freedoms. Furthermore, Voltaire had a great respect for England s stance on the sciences and
philosophy. Since the beginning of man, religion has served as both a guide to moral behavior and as
an explanation to elucidate the physical world. Up until the 17th and 18th centuries, most explanations
of things pertaining to the natural world were religiously based or simply established on deductive
reasoning alone. When the Enlightenment Era began, new ideas of reasoning came to

Nursing Case Study On Chlamydia Trachomatis
A young mother brings her newborn baby to the pediatrician for a follow up visit a week after giving
birth to her son at home. She states that everything is going well and that the baby has not had any
troubles apart from a goopy left eye that started to appear last night. She had a midwife present during
the birth, which did not have any complications. She was able to keep her prenatal appointments with
her OB/GYN clinician for the first few months of pregnancy, but then stopped because her husband
was fired from his job and they were left without health insurance. Her husband recently has been able
to gain employment again, which has enabled the young mother to follow up at the pediatrician s
office today. She states that she has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

used to prevent ophthalmia neonatorum due to Chlamydia, Neisseria, or Treponema. Because these

The Examined Life By Slajov Zizek
In the film The Examined Life, a compelling documentary directed by Astra Taylor, eight powerful
philosophers meander around places that are particularly special to them, as well as their ideas. Issues
discussed range from cosmopolitanism to truth, and each philosopher is given 10 minutes to share
their thoughts. Although not enough time to really connect with the philosophers, some concrete
points are made. Slajov Zizek discusses ecology and our idealization of nature, and the critical
importance and implications of how we live as humans in unison with the environment. Slajov Zizek
is filmed at a trash dump, very significant to the argument he is about to make. One of the first things
he tells viewers is that we need more alienation from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Zizek, if we can vision nature as existing as a series of catastrophes rather then viewing
it as balanced, then we may begin to acknowledge the implications of how we live symbiotically with
the environment. He stresses that as humans we must begin to recognize the changes in the
environment and adapt with them. His attempt at a resolution is to isolate ourselves from nature even
more than we already have. He believes that if we can create our own environment, then catastrophes
will be irrelevant and our disavowal will be warranted. We should develop, I think, a much more
terrifying new abstract materialism, a kinds of mathematical universe where there is nothing. There
are just formulas, technical forms and so on. If we can find beauty in trash itself that is a success. If
we can learn to love the earth for what it is, that is also a success. This comes as a result of additions
that we must work to make in order to greater the success of the environment. That s the true love of
the world. Because what is love? Love is not idealization. Love means you accept a person...with all
its failures, stupidities, and ugly points. And nonetheless, the person s absolute for you [...] But you
see perfection in imperfection itself. And that s how we should learn to love the world. The key to
Zizek s ideology is love through change. We as people must begin to adapt and accept the world as it
comes, and care for it as if it were

Wife Role In Japanese Family
The wife role is centered more around the children and the household. That she is the most informed
about what is best for her children and will explore all options for them. They do not usually let their
children go to a babysitter or daycare because they feel that they can nurture their children best. Also,
the mothers consider motherhood to be highly valued and is considered the most important thing. The
mother knows all that is going on with their child and has the ultimate authority in their education and
attends to all their academic needs. (Japanese Family) Japan has many traditions that are deep rooted
in their religions such as, Japanese Tea Ceremony, Noh drama, Kabuki Drama, as well as holidays like
Japanese New Year celebration, Coming of Age Day, Shunbun no hi/Higan no Chu Nichi as well as
Christmas. Japanese Tea Ceremony where they bring tranquility to the people involved in it. Noh
drama and Kabuki dramas are dramas combing music, dance and lyrics with ritualistic presentations
and kabuki is the combination of Noh drama combined with folk theater. Though Kabuki dramas are
usually performed by men impersonating women to do the performance. (Traditions) Then for the
holidays such as the Japanese New year celebration that is from January 1st to the 15th. There is the
Coming of Age Day January 15th to celebrate the birthday of everyone who turn 20 over the year
because that is when children are an adult. As for Shunbun no hi/ Higan no Chu Nichi on the days
many go visit the tombs of the deceased family members and take care of the tombs of the deceased.
Then they celebrate Christmas as well though it is not a religious holiday but rather a day to spend
with family and friends. (Traditions)
United States America The United States the family structure has changed over the years. The elderly
does not get as much respect as they had once. Families will take care of their elderly family members
some of the time, but there can be resentment to the person. Elderly are not seen as knowing people in

Essay on Army Drawdown
THE ARMY RESTRUCTURING PLAN 2
Abstract
The U.S. Army plans on cutting 80,000 soldiers by 2013. This will be done by cutting the number of
combat brigades from 45 to as low as 32. This restructuring comes as the Pentagon works on its 2013
fiscal year budget, which much reflect $260 billion in savings over the next five years. On January 26,
2012 senior DOD leaders released a new defense strategy, this is based on the current budget
constraints. This new strategy will focus on a smaller, leaner military that is agile, flexible, rapidly
deployable, and more technologically advanced (Feikert Henning page 5, 2012). This new military

Military personnel will still see a raise of 1.7%, but retirees will be hit with increases in health care
fees, deductibles and co pays. This will be a burden of retirees who are under 65 and have another job,
also the one s who make more money. Chairman of the House Armed Service Committee Buck
McKeon, warned that steep cuts to the military funding are ill advised because of the potential for
future conflicts that cannot be foreseen (Jaffe, 2012). Going back to past wars, the military lowered it s
numbers after each one and was not ready for the attacks that happened in the future. The Defense
budget has been subject to large cuts in funding which is know as the sequester, this was the result of
the super committee failure to reach an agreement last summer. That was when the freeze was on the
military pay for a month. Many officials believe the cuts by Obama are way too early. With all the
draw down and cutting back they are asking the military to constantly do more with less. The military
is looking to come up with the right joint force. The Army grew during the past ten years, they were in
need of soldiers and did mass recruiting. Now that the wars are drawing down it seems like they are
just dumping these soldiers on the sideline s. They do not realize what these soldiers have been

Comparing Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
The West African figure Anansi, as seen in Anansi Owns All Tales That Are Told, The Ants Burden,
and Why Anansi s Head is Small and His Behind is Big and the modern Western figure Barty Crouch
Jr. found in the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire both feature trickster qualities. In both of
these works, these characters and their actions as tricksters are comparable. The transformations
Anansi and Barty Crouch Jr. make are testimonies to their portrayal as tricksters. In Harry Potter and
the Goblet of Fire, Barty Crouch Jr. transforms into Professor Moody, while in Anansi Owns All Tales
That Are Told and Why Anansi s Head is Small and His Behind is Big, Anansi is portrayed as a spider
as opposed to a human farmer in The Ants Burden. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire includes the Triwizard Tournament while Anansi Owns All Tales
That Are Told includes three animals Anansi must deceive. As previously mentioned, Barty Crouch Jr.
is disguised as Professor Moody. His trickster transformation makes for easy accessibility to most
elements of the Triwizard Tournament. The rules of the tournament state that all contestants must be at
least 17 years of age, but the Goblet of Fire sends Harry Potter s name out after the original three
contestants are named. Harry Potter did not put his own name in and this is obvious because he is only
14 and it would have been a nearly impossible task given the age ring placed around the goblet. There
is much controversy concerning whether or not Harry Potter should be allowed to participate, but
Barty Crouch Sr., the head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation, eventually states,
The rules are absolute. The Goblet of Fire constitutes a binding magical contract. Mr. Potter has no
choice. Later, it is discovered that Barty Crouch Jr., disguised at Professor Moody, was the one who
entered Harry Potter s name into the Goblet of Fire. The three tasks involved in the Triwizard
Tournament include: battling a dragon, rescuing a friend from merpeople, and navigating a maze.

Turner Syndrome Research Paper
I chose to research Turner Syndrome because it sounded very interesting. Turner syndrome is a
condition that affects females only. Turner syndrome is the result of a missing, whole or partial, X
chromosome. Turner syndrome can be diagnosed before birth but will occasionally not be diagnosed
until the teen years. Diagnosis will depend upon symptom severity. Turner syndrome has symptoms
for both those born before and after birth. Diagnosis is dependent upon finding symptoms when it
comes to prenatal diagnosis. Abnormal fluid collection, abnormalities of the heart, and kidney
abnormalities are all signs that doctors will look to when attempting to diagnosis the syndrome. Turner
syndrome is a very physical syndrome. The signs and symptoms are physical and easily spotted in
many if not most. Symptoms for many include poor overall growth and will be apparent at birth and
infancy. Wide or web like neck, a small lower jaw, high and narrow roof of the mouth, low set ears,
low hairline and the nape of the neck, short fingers and toes, outward turned arms, swelling of
extremities, short height, and delayed growth are all large and prominent signs of Turner syndrome at
an early age. There are some cases of delayed diagnosis of Turner syndrome. Symptoms for those that

Marxism In Ponies
A famous quote of Karl Marx says: The Rich will do anything for the poor, but get off their backs.
This saying indicates the power imbalance between the rich and the poor, as the rich have the freedom
to do whatever they want to the poor, while the poor can do nothing about it. This is an example of
Marxism because there are power struggles between the rich and the poor.. Marxism is a well known
theory, originating from the mid 19th century by Karl Marx, and it is used to reveal historical content,
power imbalances, and political beliefs. In other words. in writing, authors can use these ideas from
Marxism to develop a text that will help readers understand power struggles, political views, and the
reasons behind the conflicts in the text. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The text describes how the main character has to do things against her will in order to fit in with the
other girls, since she s trying to become a part of their group. The character Barbara does not want to
cut off her pony s voice as she, throws her arms around Sunny s neck, protecting it. (Johnson 3). But
she ends up ready to do so. I won t! Barbara tells them all, but even as she cries... she knows she will.
(Johnson 3). Barbara feels as if she has to conform to whatever everyone else is doing. This shows
that she lacks power and TheOtherGirls are in control with all the power. This explains that Barbara is
not a person who trusts themselves to do what is right. This shows that she lacks power. Nevertheless,
TheOtherGirls make everyone follow them, as they have a lot of power. In the end, TheOtherGirls still
reject Barbara as they say, You re not one of us. (Johnson 4). After all the trouble Barbara took to fit in
with TheOtherGirls, they still deny her. TheOtherGirls can do whatever they want to Barbara, as she is
susceptible enough to listen to them, This shows that The OtherGirls are very powerful. They took
control over Barbara, and ruined her life, as they misled her with fake lies, and killed her pony in the
process. The story Ponies includes Marxism when it describes the power imbalance between Barbara
and TheOtherGirls, and how they have much more power than

Identity In Hamlet
In the plays that we have covered throughout the semester, Shakespeare continuously adds layers of
complexity to the events, dialogue, and characteristics of the main characters. In doing so,
Shakespeare is able to create a presentation of reality as a more subjective interpretation rather than an
objective truth. Additionally, this complexity is extremely prevalent in the characterization of the main
characters, in which he intimates the multiplicity of human nature. Although the genres range from the
history plays of Richard II and Henry V to the revenge tragedy of Hamlet, there are numerous themes
that arise within all of these works that aid in the understanding of human nature and identity. Overall,
the idea of identity is explored as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Yet, only when the Ghost of Hamlet told him to revenge his foul and most unnatural murder, did
Hamlet begin to create the appearance of being mad (Hamlet, Act. 1.5, 26). Hamlet continues to
portray this intense mourning for his father s death and becomes consumed with revenge to the point
of questioning the reality of these feelings. In Act 2.2, Hamlet begins a rant about the actors abilities
to, in a fiction, in a dream of passion, portray intense feelings that were not real but quickly reverts to
questioning the reality of his own feelings. This is representative of temporality associated with
identity, which is prominent throughout the

The Evolution Of Early Human Migration
The vast early human migration could have been the starting point for what would eventually blossom
into the agricultural revolution, and the mutation that could have happened in the human brain has a
good chance of being the starting point of written language. At the time of early human migration,
humans still maintained their hunter gatherer mentality. This influenced early humans to constantly
move from one location to another in an effort to find more food. Possible mutations in the early
human brain could have been the beginning of organized groups of people as well as spoken language.
This brain mutation could have also influenced the development of technology allowing for early
humans to obtain more food more efficiently. Early humans

f. Survey The survey section focuses on the anticipated benefits and drawbacks that are associated
with the use of the electric car technology.
i. Benefits anticipated for the development of electric cars
The developments of electric cars are associated with numerous benefits to the different stakeholders
who are involved in their operations. Among the benefits include the environmental benefits where the
use of electric cars has eliminated emission of dangerous gases that are emitted by fuel based cars. The
use of electric cars also has numerous health benefits to the public as some of the gases that are

explains that electric cars are economical in the long run as the cost of electricity is low than the fuel
and gas prices that changes with time (269) . Due to the ease of optimizing electric cars in comparison
to fuel cars, the cars are also considered to be much safer to their users in comparison to fuel cars.
During accidents, some of the fuel based cars explode as the fuels are flammable. ii. The review of
different drawbacks anticipated for this DPC

Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 Analysis Essay

Sharon Olds Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 is a very sad and dreary poem. This is because Olds
writes about the Battle of Leningrad, a 900 day siege of Leningrad during World War II, and the
lifelessness that is going on afterwards. Olds word choice throughout the poem is very important to
the meaning of this poem. The way that she writes about this battle paints a very clear picture in my
mind of what she is describing. Many times thorough the poem, Olds compares life and death many
times with different comparisons. Olds starts off the poem by saying: That winter, the dead could not
be buried. (1) This creates a sad tone for when the rest of the poem. She then talks about the ... Show

Though, the cocoon comparison could also mean that the battle was a turning point in the war. This is
because Russia gained momentum against Germany with that victory, which did start a new life in the
war. A hand reaching out/ with no sign of peace, wanting to come back (15 16) is another comparison
of life to death. Olds is saying that the lifeless corpse is still making a gesture saying that the dead
would return if they could at any price. She says that those people who died in the battle, the corpses,
would do anything even to the bread make of glue and sawdust, / even to the icy winter, and the siege.
(18 19) I think that the moral of this poem is that life is precious, and that life should never be taken
for granted. I think this is because the whole poem is comparisons between life and death, and because
she says that the people who have passed away would do anything possible to come back to life, even
under the worst conditions, to be loved, to love, and to be with the people they

Negotiating And Mediating Landlord Tenant Disputes
Introduction
The essay discusses negotiating and mediating a landlord tenant dispute. In most of the property
problems, it is better to solve disputes directly with the property owners. In order to manage relations
between the landlord as well as a tenant, both negotiation, as well as meditation, is the best way rather
than lawsuit. Waring (2013) opined that the landlord and tenant disputes are common complaints as
the tenants are dependent on a place to live as well as the landlord is dependent on their rental income.
Therefore, the process of negotiation and mediation helps to give them mutual dispute resolution.
This paper outlines on the negotiation strategy, which is used by the tenant to overcome this situation.
Both the landlord and tenant are given up with dispute resolution. It also discusses on advantages as
well as disadvantages for the landlord and tenant using the mediator. This essay paper summarizes the
dispute problems and gives the solution to those issues using the help of negotiator as well as the
mediator.

Pros And Cons Of Robots
Robots are becoming more and more advanced. As employers implement more automation, it is likely
that many will lose their jobs to a robot. Robots have already been employed in many industries
successfully especially in manufacturing. This automation improves the productivity in manufacturing
and in effect, reduces the costs to make products. Manufacturing jobs now populated by people have
many Musculoskeletal disease risk factors. With the application of robots, workers will not have to put
themselves at risk for personal injury caused by MSD s. Research shows that repetitive work can
cause musculoskeletal diseases in humans, but fortunately, robots are starting to acquire the tedious,
manual labor jobs that enhance these diseases more; therefore, robots are seen as an ethical
improvement to job safety and wellness. Musculoskeletal diseases are the leading cause of disability
in the United States. MSD s are diseases that affect the muscles, bones, and any connecting tissue ,
and they cause chronic pains and mobility issues. In the workforce, there are MSD risk factors that

American Political Party Systems
American Political Party Systems America gained its independence from England in 1776 and for the
first 75 years, it was a rocky, sometimes unstable country. The Revolutionary War, fought from 1775
to 1783, established America as a country to be reckoned with while also setting forth some of the
ideas for the Constitution. The leaders of the Revolution did not approve of nor want political parties,
but those sentiments did not last long. The War of 1812 contributed to the changing political system in
the United States of America. For the last 234 years, the American political party systems have seen

followers and voters, the Democratic Republican party started to put it s time and energy into issues
that the general population was more concerned with, therefore pulling voters from the Federalist
Party. The War of 1812 was the final straw for the majority of the Federalist Party and its followers.
For most historians, the War of 1812 marked the end of the Federalist Party in the United States of
America. Federalists who had remained active in political affairs became enraged by the war, which

Southern Wigs were farming slave owners. In 1849, Abraham Lincoln, a Whigs leader from Illinois,

This disdain for humans is not only subject from inanimate objects, but also from animals

against the humans. The fish are growing increasingly more sophisticated just as their bitterness
towards humans does (Pixartheory). Ratatouille takes place in 2007, in Paris, France. Remy the chef
has advanced human qualities for a rat. Remy is able to walk on his hind feet, read, cook, and clean.
Although Remy and Linguini have a strong human to animal relationship, it is obvious the tension
between animals and humans is rising (Pixartheory). Toy Story 3 is set in 2010. Animals as well as
toys have struggled continuously the past few years. This explains why toys are very hesitant and
resentful towards humans. Lotso the Huggin Bear is an example of being fed up with the treatment of
toys. The animosity growing between animals as well as toys and humans is rising. In fact, there is a
letter written from Carl and Ellie explaining to Andy to get rid of his toys. The tension growing

Alexander the Great Essay 9
Alexander the Great Alexander the Great was a king and conqueror. He is commonly referred to as the
most powerful leader of all time. What is it that makes him such a powerful leader? What has he
accomplished that has made him so significant? Were his accomplishments positive or negative?
These are all questions that when combined as one create a debate that has been going on for decades.
There are those who admire Alexander s military achievements and ability to carve out the largest
empire the world has seen. Then there are those who perceive him as a selfish, cruel madman with
drinking problems. This paper will outline the different sides taken on Alexander and the question as
to what his significance/influence was and whether it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was a self confident man who only wanted to conquer for self pleasure. Alexander is the reason
that corruption and peculation were treated with casualness during this time. His pleasure was when
his peoples were loyal to him and that was all that was necessary for his approval. It was because of
him that Macedonia lost its manpower through the strenuous battles he continuously fought. He left it
as a weakened kingdom. His empire is given so much credit but it was only based on rapid military
conquest and died right after his death (Stoneman 92 94). It is believed that Alexander conquered to
rule, not to blend cultures. Heavy drinking led to disastrous incidents and hastened his death. An
example of such a disaster was the burning down of Persepolis in a drunken revel. This is not an
attribute of a good leader. He also lacked long range planning and neglected his kingdoms future by
exhausting himself in warfare while he delayed fathering a royal successor. His selfishness is proved
by his act of casually killing any threats to the throne at the beginning of his reign (Sacks 15). Those
who see Alexander in a negative manner obviously have quite strong opinions about it. They see him
as more of a madman than the most powerful leader. It is easy to see where they get their assumptions
from for they look at the bloodshed part of Alexander s reign. Instead of focusing on the rare ability he
had to conquer so

are stuck in traffic jams they fall behind schedule and, because this means that more people will be
waiting at the next stops, they fall even further behind schedule leading to bunching and compounding
delays. Bunched buses and delays make public transport unattractive for customers and increase
operational costs, so congestion impacts on public transport must be eliminated whenever possible.

I Advocate For The Alteration Of Copyright Law
Copyright law is broken. I advocate for the alteration of copyright law as it relates to sampled music.
My argument is this: Anybody should be allowed to use any samples they want, but must give credit
and a portion of the profits made from the work to the sampled musicians. In The Future of Ideas,
Lawrence Lessig puts forth a similar proposal to the one I advocate for, in regards to downloading
music files instead of sampling. Lessig states, Congress should empower file sharing by recognizing a
similar system of compulsory licenses. These fees should not be set by an industry intent on killing
this new mode of distribution. They should be set, as they have always been set by a policy maker
keen on striking a balance. (Lessig 255). For Lessig the altering of copyright is a matter of principle,
one which he corners as uniquely American and even constitutional. [I]t is about the fundamental
values that define this society and whether we will allow those values to change. Are we, in a digital
age, to be a free society? (Lessig 11). Another section reveals an even deeper, almost heartfelt
pleading, in which he defines the true reasons for the war between those for and against changes to
copyright law.
It is about the values of balance and measure that should limit the government s role in choosing the
future of creativity. It is about the opportunity for creators to build on the past. It is about limiting the
control that legal structures such as copyright give to

Definition Of The Emancipation Proclamation Essay
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man s character, give him power. The 16th
president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln once said. Abraham Lincoln can be noted as the most
quintessential people in history. He issued many speeches that impacted the modern world today, such
as, the Gettysburg Address, House Divided Speech, Lincoln Douglas debate, but most notably the
Emancipation Proclamation. Perspective has varied about the purpose of this document for years, due
to the fact of its romanticizing nature. The time of the Civil War was a rough year for all divided

These reasons factor into why the Emancipation Proclamation could be considered a political
document, by drawing a line in the sand between the Union and the Confederacy. It was also declared
a gross violation of the wages of civilized warfare. (Wilbur) Many were disappointed as Lincoln
abandoned the rose water approach to war, which approaches a conflict in a hasty manner. (Witt)
Rightful to his religion, the proposal shadowed Lincoln s religion was followed in his speeches and
presidency. It could be thought that since he is only focusing on his religion, other people might be
singled out due to the variety of religion in various parts of the world. However, the United States was
acknowledged as a Christian capital, with Christianity as the dominant religion with two thirds of
people being followers of the religion. Lincoln also believed that every man should enjoy the fruit of
his own labor. (Reed) It is still believed today, in the modern values and beliefs that everyone should
deserve the beneficial, profitable hard working labor the workforce does today. Not only did this for
document have many possible outcomes, Lincoln poured is soul into such a problematic rebellion.
(Curated Grouping) With possible outcomes, Union defeated Confederates quicker, Union would ve
been left intact. These causes helped organize modern laws for the new days of warfare. (Schwartz)

Chapter One Of Jim Murphy s An American Plague
Chapter One of of Jim Murphy s book, An American Plague, opens with the quote, About this time,
this destroying scourge, the malignant fever, crept in among us (Murphy 1). This quote is accredited to
Mathew Carey in November, 1793. The term scourge is defined as, a person or thing that cause great
trouble of suffering, and the term malignant is defined as, tending to produce death or deterioration.
These are very strong terms with extremely negative connotative meanings. The figurative language
which is evident in the quote at the opening of Chapter One is personification. Carey s quote give
yellow fever an eerie, human like quality when he writes, the destroying scourge, the malignant fever,
CREPT in among us (Murphy 1). CArey s word choices and use of personification help to create a
powerful image in the reader s mind of the threat looming over the city of Philadelphia. Murphy uses
powerful sensory language that draws on the reader s senses of sight, smell, and hearing. Three
examples of visual details include: The sun came up, as it had every day since the end of May, bright
hot, and unrelenting (Murphy 1). The swamps and marshes south of Philadelphia had already lost a
great deal of water to the intense, heat, while the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers had receded to
reveal long stretches` of their muddy, root choked banks (Murphy 1). Finally, a third example is, when
Murphy writes, deep holes were dug at various street corners to collect runoff water and

The Resurrection Of Jesus
Overall, the events of the resurrection must have been a period of great confusion and bewilderment to
Jesus followers. Even though Jesus followers had knowledge of the resurrection from the Scriptures
and Jesus own personal testimony and prophecies (Matthew 16:21; 20:17), they still did not
understand, at least in the beginning. But how quickly that confusion and bewilderment turned to joy
after their eyes were opened. When I became a true follower of Jesus many years ago, I can remember
the joy that I felt in having my eyes opened. I like to think that the joy I experienced was the same joy
Jesus followers experienced after the resurrection.

Using Michael Porter s Five Forces model it is possible to gain an understanding of where Virgin
stands in relation to the competition and how it can adjust to increase its competitiveness. The diagram
below is a graphical representation of Porter s model.
Threat of New Entrants
1. Threat of Foreign Carriers Many large foreign airlines are expanding their reach to new market
segments that are likely to encroach on Virgin s market share. Emirates air, Cathay Pacific, and Qatar
airlines have all been successful at stealing market share from their US competitors on domestic and
international routes (Mayerowitz, 2008).
2. Low Cost and Regional Airline Startups Companies like Jet Blue, Ryanair (European), and EasyJet
(AirTran) are all LCC s that have potentially devastating effects on market share for larger more
expensive airlines (The Economist, 2004).
Bargaining Power of Suppliers
1. Fuel Companies Fuel is one of the airline industry s largest variable costs (on average 40% of their
budget). Aside from hedging or put and call options, which can backfire, airlines are at the mercy of
fuel companies and have very little bargaining power (Hargreaves, 2012).
2. Aircraft Manufactures Manufacture rates are typically discounted by

East of Eden
Literary Analysis of East of Eden
The Author and His/ Her Times: The author of East of Eden is John Steinbeck. Steinbeck was born in
Salinas California, one of the settings in East of Eden. His mother, a former school teacher, and helped
him build his passion for reading and the written word. He speaks of her and her family in his book.
They play a vital role in the progression of the book.
Many of Steinbeck s novels could be classified as social novels. His novels usually deal with
economic problems in rural labor. You can see this reflected in his novels as they are used to help tell
the story. In east of Eden Steinbeck uses history two tell of two families the Trask s and the Hamilton
s, which are his own family. Before Steinbeck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caleb is the most complex character. He seems to have inherited the evil tendencies of his mother at
first. He is fiercely jealous of his brother Aron. Although after his brother dies he struggles against
what he thinks is his inherited evil and wishes to follow good. He follows the way to good by listening
to the advice of Timshel.
Setting: The novel takes place between 1862 to 1918. A lot of the book takes place in Salinas
California. It then is briefly in Massachusetts and Connecticut. It gives the feeling that the nation is
still in a maturing stage. Many of the settings are used to help describe and define the characters. The
settings are used appropriately to the characters. For example the Hamilton s land is completely dry of
any water, but Samuel is one the kindest man in the county. Adam Trask s land is full of water, but
goes through a rough time and does become depressed for a time. Also for Cathy as it describes the
different places where she goes that reflect her strange and manipulative personality. All of these
settings help you see the difference between good and evil. The rooms in which certain things take
place help add to the effect for certain events.
Theme: The Major theme through the novel is Good Versus Evil. Examples to show this are Samuel
Hamilton and Cathy Ames. Sam represents good as Cathy represents evil. Steinbeck also uses the
settings to describe good and evil. He states, I remember the Gabilan Mountains to the east of the
valley

  • 2. Letters on England by Voltaire Letters on England is a small collection of letters written by Voltaire (born François Marie Arouet) in 1733 which offers a survey of societal England from the view of a Frenchmen. The original Letters on England, titled Lettres philosophiques, was written in English by Voltaire. This first edition was quite a cumbersome read and so in 1980 Leonard Tancock retranslated the book to English from a previous French edition. Just a few years prior to the release of Letters on England, Voltaire had been imprisoned by France and then exiled to England. This incarceration and banishment was in response to satirical compositions written by Voltaire that the French political powers felt undermined their rule. Despite harsh censorship laws, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to insights on religion, Voltaire also detailed his own understanding of the politics and economics in Europe during the time of the Enlightenment. During this time, an absolute monarchy ruled France while the English had what Voltaire saw as a limited monarch with an involved democracy. France was ruled using bribery, force, and corruption while England was governed though compromise and negotiations. Voltaire himself believed in political moderation and defense of civil liberties. He also observed the differences in economics between the two countries. Free trade was discouraged in France, to the point that some noblemen lost their rank if they participated in such commerce. Contrasting this, Voltaire saw that the English encouraged trade and tradesmen were even held in high regards. He believed that this difference in economics was what gave England access to their freedoms. Furthermore, Voltaire had a great respect for England s stance on the sciences and philosophy. Since the beginning of man, religion has served as both a guide to moral behavior and as an explanation to elucidate the physical world. Up until the 17th and 18th centuries, most explanations of things pertaining to the natural world were religiously based or simply established on deductive reasoning alone. When the Enlightenment Era began, new ideas of reasoning came to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She states that everything is going well and that the baby has not had any troubles apart from a goopy left eye that started to appear last night. She had a midwife present during the birth, which did not have any complications. She was able to keep her prenatal appointments with her OB/GYN clinician for the first few months of pregnancy, but then stopped because her husband was fired from his job and they were left without health insurance. Her husband recently has been able to gain employment again, which has enabled the young mother to follow up at the pediatrician s office today. She states that she has ... • 4. The Examined Life By Slajov Zizek In the film The Examined Life, a compelling documentary directed by Astra Taylor, eight powerful philosophers meander around places that are particularly special to them, as well as their ideas. Issues discussed range from cosmopolitanism to truth, and each philosopher is given 10 minutes to share their thoughts. Although not enough time to really connect with the philosophers, some concrete points are made. Slajov Zizek discusses ecology and our idealization of nature, and the critical importance and implications of how we live as humans in unison with the environment. Slajov Zizek is filmed at a trash dump, very significant to the argument he is about to make. One of the first things he tells viewers is that we need more alienation from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Zizek, if we can vision nature as existing as a series of catastrophes rather then viewing it as balanced, then we may begin to acknowledge the implications of how we live symbiotically with the environment. He stresses that as humans we must begin to recognize the changes in the environment and adapt with them. His attempt at a resolution is to isolate ourselves from nature even more than we already have. He believes that if we can create our own environment, then catastrophes will be irrelevant and our disavowal will be warranted. We should develop, I think, a much more terrifying new abstract materialism, a kinds of mathematical universe where there is nothing. There are just formulas, technical forms and so on. If we can find beauty in trash itself that is a success. If we can learn to love the earth for what it is, that is also a success. This comes as a result of additions that we must work to make in order to greater the success of the environment. That s the true love of the world. Because what is love? Love is not idealization. Love means you accept a person...with all its failures, stupidities, and ugly points. And nonetheless, the person s absolute for you [...] But you see perfection in imperfection itself. And that s how we should learn to love the world. The key to Zizek s ideology is love through change. We as people must begin to adapt and accept the world as it comes, and care for it as if it were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This will be done by cutting the number of combat brigades from 45 to as low as 32. This restructuring comes as the Pentagon works on its 2013 fiscal year budget, which much reflect $260 billion in savings over the next five years. On January 26, 2012 senior DOD leaders released a new defense strategy, this is based on the current budget constraints. This new strategy will focus on a smaller, leaner military that is agile, flexible, rapidly deployable, and more technologically advanced (Feikert Henning page 5, 2012). This new military will ... This will be a burden of retirees who are under 65 and have another job, also the one s who make more money. Chairman of the House Armed Service Committee Buck McKeon, warned that steep cuts to the military funding are ill advised because of the potential for future conflicts that cannot be foreseen (Jaffe, 2012). Going back to past wars, the military lowered it s numbers after each one and was not ready for the attacks that happened in the future. The Defense budget has been subject to large cuts in funding which is know as the sequester, this was the result of the super committee failure to reach an agreement last summer. That was when the freeze was on the military pay for a month. Many officials believe the cuts by Obama are way too early. With all the draw down and cutting back they are asking the military to constantly do more with less. The military is looking to come up with the right joint force. The Army grew during the past ten years, they were in need of soldiers and did mass recruiting. Now that the wars are drawing down it seems like they are just dumping these soldiers on the sideline s. Comparing Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire The West African figure Anansi, as seen in Anansi Owns All Tales That Are Told, The Ants Burden, and Why Anansi s Head is Small and His Behind is Big and the modern Western figure Barty Crouch Jr. found in the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire both feature trickster qualities. In both of these works, these characters and their actions as tricksters are comparable. The transformations Anansi and Barty Crouch Jr. make are testimonies to their portrayal as tricksters. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Barty Crouch Jr. transforms into Professor Moody, while in Anansi Owns All Tales That Are Told and Why Anansi s Head is Small and His Behind is Big, Anansi is portrayed as a spider as opposed to a human farmer in The Ants Burden. As previously mentioned, Barty Crouch Jr. is disguised as Professor Moody. His trickster transformation makes for easy accessibility to most elements of the Triwizard Tournament. The rules of the tournament state that all contestants must be at least 17 years of age, but the Goblet of Fire sends Harry Potter s name out after the original three contestants are named. Harry Potter did not put his own name in and this is obvious because he is only 14 and it would have been a nearly impossible task given the age ring placed around the goblet. There is much controversy concerning whether or not Harry Potter should be allowed to participate, but Barty Crouch Sr., the head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation, eventually states, The rules are absolute. The Goblet of Fire constitutes a binding magical contract. Mr. Potter has no choice. Later, it is discovered that Barty Crouch Jr., disguised at Professor Moody, was the one who entered Harry Potter s name into the Goblet of Fire. • 10. Turner Syndrome Research Paper I chose to research Turner Syndrome because it sounded very interesting. Turner syndrome is a condition that affects females only. Turner syndrome is the result of a missing, whole or partial, X chromosome. Turner syndrome can be diagnosed before birth but will occasionally not be diagnosed until the teen years. Diagnosis will depend upon symptom severity. Turner syndrome has symptoms for both those born before and after birth. Diagnosis is dependent upon finding symptoms when it comes to prenatal diagnosis. Abnormal fluid collection, abnormalities of the heart, and kidney abnormalities are all signs that doctors will look to when attempting to diagnosis the syndrome. Identity In Hamlet In the plays that we have covered throughout the semester, Shakespeare continuously adds layers of complexity to the events, dialogue, and characteristics of the main characters. In doing so, Shakespeare is able to create a presentation of reality as a more subjective interpretation rather than an objective truth. Additionally, this complexity is extremely prevalent in the characterization of the main characters, in which he intimates the multiplicity of human nature. Hamlet continues to portray this intense mourning for his father s death and becomes consumed with revenge to the point of questioning the reality of these feelings. In Act 2.2, Hamlet begins a rant about the actors abilities to, in a fiction, in a dream of passion, portray intense feelings that were not real but quickly reverts to questioning the reality of his own feelings. His empire is given so much credit but it was only based on rapid military conquest and died right after his death (Stoneman 92 94). My argument is this: Anybody should be allowed to use any samples they want, but must give credit and a portion of the profits made from the work to the sampled musicians. In The Future of Ideas, Lawrence Lessig puts forth a similar proposal to the one I advocate for, in regards to downloading music files instead of sampling. Lessig states, Congress should empower file sharing by recognizing a similar system of compulsory licenses. These fees should not be set by an industry intent on killing this new mode of distribution. They should be set, as they have always been set by a policy maker keen on striking a balance. Although he was Chicago s starting nickelback in 2008, he successfully competed for starting free safety over Craig Steltz, Kevin Payne, Josh Bullocks, and Corey Graham. Manning won the starting position shortly before Chicago s summer training camp. • 32. Chapter One Of Jim Murphy s An American Plague Chapter One of of Jim Murphy s book, An American Plague, opens with the quote, About this time, this destroying scourge, the malignant fever, crept in among us (Murphy 1). This quote is accredited to Mathew Carey in November, 1793. The term scourge is defined as, a person or thing that cause great trouble of suffering, and the term malignant is defined as, tending to produce death or deterioration. These are very strong terms with extremely negative connotative meanings. The figurative language which is evident in the quote at the opening of Chapter One is personification. Carey s quote give yellow fever an eerie, human like quality when he writes, the destroying scourge, the malignant fever, CREPT in among us (Murphy 1). CArey s word choices and use of personification help to create a powerful image in the reader s mind of the threat looming over the city of Philadelphia. Murphy uses powerful sensory language that draws on the reader s senses of sight, smell, and hearing. Three examples of visual details include: The sun came up, as it had every day since the end of May, bright hot, and unrelenting (Murphy 1). The swamps and marshes south of Philadelphia had already lost a great deal of water to the intense, heat, while the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers had receded to reveal long stretches` of their muddy, root choked banks (Murphy 1). Finally, a third example is, when Murphy writes, deep holes were dug at various street corners to collect runoff water and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Resurrection Of Jesus Overall, the events of the resurrection must have been a period of great confusion and bewilderment to Jesus followers. Even though Jesus followers had knowledge of the resurrection from the Scriptures and Jesus own personal testimony and prophecies (Matthew 16:21; 20:17), they still did not understand, at least in the beginning. But how quickly that confusion and bewilderment turned to joy after their eyes were opened. When I became a true follower of Jesus many years ago, I can remember the joy that I felt in having my eyes opened. I like to think that the joy I experienced was the same joy Jesus followers experienced after the resurrection. Unfortunately, there are not many details concerning the actual resurrection. Using Michael Porter s Five Forces model it is possible to gain an understanding of where Virgin stands in relation to the competition and how it can adjust to increase its competitiveness. The diagram below is a graphical representation of Porter s model. Threat of New Entrants 1. Threat of Foreign Carriers Many large foreign airlines are expanding their reach to new market segments that are likely to encroach on Virgin s market share. Emirates air, Cathay Pacific, and Qatar airlines have all been successful at stealing market share from their US competitors on domestic and international routes (Mayerowitz, 2008). 2. Low Cost and Regional Airline Startups Companies like Jet Blue, Ryanair (European), and EasyJet (AirTran) are all LCC s that have potentially devastating effects on market share for larger more expensive airlines (The Economist, 2004). Bargaining Power of Suppliers 1. Fuel Companies Fuel is one of the airline industry s largest variable costs (on average 40% of their budget). Aside from hedging or put and call options, which can backfire, airlines are at the mercy of fuel companies and have very little bargaining power (Hargreaves, 2012). 2. Adam Trask s land is full of water, but goes through a rough time and does become depressed for a time. Also for Cathy as it describes the different places where she goes that reflect her strange and manipulative personality. All of these settings help you see the difference between good and evil. The rooms in which certain things take place help add to the effect for certain events. Theme: The Major theme through the novel is Good Versus Evil.
