The Spiritual Discipline Of Worship
Introduction
The spiritual discipline that I have chosen is worship. When I think of the term worship my initial
response is singing to God but throughout this course I have learnt that although singing is one
important aspect of worship, that it is so much more than just that. Worship is to honour and adore the
Trinity as the supreme treasure of life. Worship is offering your whole self to God. Worship is a choice
and a way of life.
Summarise your original understanding of the discipline before the course started
Before I began studying the discipline of worship I understood worship as singing to God. I believed
that it was something that came naturally to every believer, that it was something that you just did
when you were a Christian. To think of worship as a discipline was a bit of a struggle for me. I
understood worship to be lifting God up with your voice either in church meetings or in your quiet
time at home and only had a basic understanding of what living a lifestyle of worship looked like.
A Significant Christian figure in history who has contributed to this discipline
The significant Christian figure that I would like to focus on is William Booth. William was born in
England, gave his life to Jesus at the age of 15 and is best known today as founder and first general of
the Salvation Army . William had a passion for music and a niche for using secular songs to reach the
lost, although he was often criticized by others for doing so. He contributed

The Importance Of Student Needs On School-Wide Transition
Student Needs Title 1 School wide Transition Our efforts as teachers to boost learning are most
effective when we share the same philosophy: The focus is all about the kids, not what works best for
us, as teachers. A student centered mindset is proving what s best for each child. Our current MTSS
(Multi Tiered System of Support) pathway provides a backbone to students academic needs. To assure
that all students have every opportunity to reach their full potential, various programs and
interventions are in place to meet the unique needs of all students who attend Oakes Elementary.
Therefore, it was only pertinent that I take our Title 1 program to that same level and lead our school
through the process of transitioning from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the opportunity arose, it was a no brainer that we had to take the leap. The many hours of
completing a comprehensive needs assessment, brainstorming and documenting school wide reform
strategies, along with compiling four goals that were considered big and scary, we were doing what s
best for kids! I thank Anna Sell, my building principal, for believing in me and providing necessary
information so that this could become a reality for our school. The final outcome of this endeavor was
to be named Title 1 Exceptional Teacher of the Year. I am honored to accept this award on behalf of
the fantastic team of teachers, administration, and most importantly the lives we touch everyday...the
kids! This award comes with a $12,000 grant to be spent on allowable expenditure to upgrade what we
do here at OES for kids. I am excited to look into a few new ideas for my classroom with flexible
seating, attend the National Title 1 convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in February 2018 with a
colleague, and purchase materials for our strategic and intensive interventions. By all means, we are
not finished here! Our teaching staff meets weekly to discuss student needs, performance, and
assessments. Then in the spring of the year, I will hold a meeting and school wide review for all
teaching staff and parents where we will look into the data and determine academic achievement

The Effect Of Temperature Increases Due On Anthropogenic...
Abstract The purpose of this article by Diffenbaugh et.al. is to determine how temperature increases
due to anthropogenic warming change the probability of precipitation deficits that cause severe
drought conditions, and determine what the conditions will look like in the future. They used historical
precipitation and temperature data with Palmer Drought Metrics and global climate models to attempt
to answer this question. It was found that in the past twenty years, the frequency of drought years has
doubled, without any significant change in the trends of precipitation variability. This was attributed to
significant increases in positive temperature anomalies causing an increased frequency of precipitation
deficits leading to more occurrences of drought years. Global climate modeling suggested that by
2030, the region will transition to a regime where there is a 100% risk that all future dry years will
coincide with warmer conditions, increasing the risk of extended drought conditions. This is not the
first time this region has experienced prolonged drought conditions. However, it is the first time the
drought has been this severe. Since 1977, the per capita water usage has decreased such that in 2013
the water demand is similar to that of 1977, meaning that it will be very difficult to come up with new
short term water conservation ideas.

Workplace Violence And The Workplace
Workplace violence definition
OSHA Fact Sheet (2012) states workplace violence is a violence or the threat of violence against
workers (p.1). Workplace violence causes serious harm to employees or homicide that can lead to
deaths. Act in any kind of shapes and forms such as: physical threat, threatening behavior, intention of
assault and battery, verbal abuse, beating, stabbing, rape, shooting, being followed, psychological
trauma, suicide, treat or obscene phone call/text, intimidation. Workplace violence can happen to
anyone, anywhere at or outside the workplace location either during from/to work or from/to client s
traveling temporary or permanent where any work related duty performances. It is not limited to just
employees, but also customers, clients, and invitees. Workplace violence is one of the most concerns
for not just employers, but worldwide workers.
Who is at risk?
Nearly 2 million records of American workers have been victims of workplace violation each year.
However, many more cases go unreported. The truth is, workplace violence can strike anytime,
anywhere, and no one is immune. Workplace violence categories are violence by strangers, co
workers, personal relations, and by customers or clients. Some workers, notwithstanding, are at
increased risk at certain worksites. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Census of Fatal
Occupational Injuries that there are a total of 4,405 fatal work injuries in 2013, 4,628 fatal work
injuries in 2012.

Effects Of CAI On Students With Disabilities
STUDENT AT RISK AND WITH DISABILITIES Recently, CAI has become an acceptable
instructional strategy to provide several academic outcomes for at risk students and those with
disabilities. Even though there has been research on the effects and implications of CAI on students
without disabilities, there is limited research evidence about the effects of CAI on students with
disabilities. Ross et al., (1991) assessed the effects of CAI on students attitudes toward school, grades,
computer skills, standardized test scores, and teacher evaluations using the Apple Classroom of
Tomorrow (ACOT) program. Subjects were at risk seventh grade students. Results showed that the
CAI group was successful in math and reading compared to the control group. However, they reported
that some academic achievements were lost and students remained at risk because of lack of on going
computer use and limited access to computer lab after the two year experiment. Considering the
importance of time and on task behaviors in CAI, Salerno (1995) examined the mathematics
achievements of at risk fifth graders. In this study, students were randomly assigned to three groups:
extended computer time; extended time on task, and control group. All students participated in CAI,
but the extended time computer group used an extra 60 minutes per week with CAI, and the extended
time on task group used special workbooks with an equal amount of instructional time independently.
The study s author used ANOVA to

Disengagement And Continuity Theory Analysis
During the late 1900 s, many different psychosocial theories were used to define how human beings
behave during the later years of life, but how well do these theories hold up today? In order to
determine this, I asked my two grandmothers, Dana Russo (73) and Jane Steinthal (78), to answer a
series of questions to determine if their retirement locations correlated with behaviors described in
different theories of aging. While both sets of grandparents lived in New York at one point in time,
Dana and her husband Richard permanently retired down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida a few years ago
and both sets of grandparents go back and forth from each state once each year in order to unwind and
visit family and friends. In each of the interviews, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Lesser) When asked about the pros and cons of living in New York, Jane responded with the
following; besides from family, she has a busy life up north with her grandchildren, local community,
and charity work and can only take the warm weather in bits and pieces. Jane was overall very
outgoing socially, having a number of both new and old friends, and showed a willingness to help
those she cares about no matter how far away they are. She even stated that she d probably do more if
she ever moved to Florida in order to replace the current hobbies she has back at home like gardening
and baking for her grandchildren. Jane is the definition of someone classified in the Activity and
Social Construction theories, someone who benefits mentally from being their for others and getting
involved with her community. However, what s fascinating is while Jane, a middle old elder, is the one
exhibiting these attitudes toward life she, according to the theories, should be like Dana dealing with
qualities of disengagement. According to an article written by professors from the University of
Gävile, The disengagement theory starts from the assumption that, from middle age onwards, people
begin to turn inward. Further the theory states that, as individuals grow older,

Causes Of Immigration In America
The United States experienced major waves of immigration during the colonial era, the first part of the
19th century and from the 1880s to 1920. Many immigrants came to America seeking greater
economic opportunity, while some, such as the Pilgrims in the early 1600s, arrived in search of
religious freedom.
From the 17th to 19th centuries, hundreds of thousands of African slaves came to America against
their will. The first significant federal legislation restricting immigration was the 1882 Chinese
Exclusion Act.
Individual states regulated immigration prior to the 1892 opening of Ellis Island, the country s first
federal immigration station. New laws in 1965 ended the quota system that favored European
immigrants, and today, the majority of the country s immigrants hail from Asia and Latin America.
From its earliest days, America has been a nation of immigrants, starting with its original inhabitants
who crossed the land bridge connecting Asia and North America tens of thousands of years ago. By
the
1500s, the first Europeans, led by the Spanish and French, had begun establishing settlements in what
would become the United States. In 1607, the English founded their first permanent settlement in
present day America at Jamestown in the Virginia Colony. Some of America s first settlers came in
search of freedom to practice their faith. In 1620, a group of roughly 100 people later known as the
Pilgrims fled religious persecution in Europe and arrived at present day Plymouth,

My Favorite Place In My Life
Quick and easy to use transportation has created the ability to travel worldwide many times in your
life. From airplanes to boats to cars to trains all the way to buses, it is hard to not travel around the
world, which it makes it difficult to choose one spot as your all time favorite place to be. But luckily
in my life, I know that Sydney s Frozen Custard on the shores of Lake Superior in Grand Marais is my
favorite place to be. I have been blessed with countless experiences of travel from touring Italy,
snorkeling the Mexican coasts, surfing the Dominican waves, exploring the land of Ethiopia, and even
inhaling the fresh air of the Netherlands, but no adventure of mine has lived up to the relaxing Grand
Marais atmosphere. The tradition dates back to 2005, the first time I experienced the crisp Lake
Superior air. My family pained through the six hour drive, and found it was well worth it. We fell in
love with the small town ambiance, and to this day still cannot let go if it. So many monumental
family experiences can be traced back to Grand Marais. Every year we celebrate America s birthday
by watching the fireworks explode over the placid and reflective Lake Superior water. Skiing the
powdery fresh hills of Lutsen Mountain and coming back to a warm and cozy room at East Bay suites,
while drinking the free steamy hot cocoa given away at the inn is a memory that will never escape me.
I love waking up to the fog rolling over the water and the savory pastry aroma rolling

Overview Of Artificial Neural Networks
Introduction Artificial neural networks are a class of computational structures (Lesk, 2013) made up of
several processing elements, called artificial neurons that are connected and organized in layers
(Larder et al., 2007). They are capable of generating models for the detection of non linear
functions(..). Their algorithms are extensively applied in biology and medicine to solve complex
problems, more specifically for prediction or classification of solutions or to refine methodological
aspects. (Florence and Balasubramanie, 2010). Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a retrovirus
that can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). (Kim et al., 2010). It is a disease in
which the body immune system weakens progressively, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Artificial neural networks have been used extensively as a complimentary bioinformatics tool to make
approximations of the cleavage site activity and specificity. First uses of ANNs to solve the problem
The aim of first research study was to develop a classification model that, given a sequence of eight
amino acids, could discriminate between sequences which are either cleavable or uncleavable by the
HIV 1 protease. (Kim et al., 2010). The neural learning algorithms used most frequently was back
propagation neural networks (BPNNs) (Thomson et al., 2003) because it performs well on prediction
problems. (Sibanda and Pretorius, 2012). When BBNN was used for the prediction of the HIV 1
protease cleavage site, it gave a prediction accuracy 92%(Thomson et al., 2010) However, one of the
major disadvantages of using ANNs to analyse biological data referred to the impossibility of most
ANNs of recognizing non numerical features like amino acids. Hence an encoding process to model
the amino acids was preferable. (Thomson et al., 2003) The advantage of the Bio basic functional
neural networks The peculiarity of this algorithm relates to its ability to recognise amino acids
directly. Thus, avoiding the use of 20 binary bits to represent each amino acid is advantageous. (2003)
The prediction accuracy of BBFNN was proved in a research study using 362 HIV protease
sequences, where 114 were with cleavage sites and

The Chemical Substance Of Hydrogen Atoms
Introduction:
Water is a chemical substance composed atomically of an oxygen atom, and two hydrogen atoms,
giving it the chemical formula H2O . It has a bent molecular structure, with the centralised oxygen
atom at the top of the molecule with two lone pairs of electrons above it, and the two hydrogen atoms
branching out below, each connected to the oxygen by covalent bonds. VSEPR (Valence Shell
Electron Pair Repulsion) Theory is utilised in chemistry for the prediction of a molecules geometry.
This theory was constructed off the idea that valence electron pairs around an atom have a tendency to
repel each other, thus forcing the molecule to organise itself in a manner that creates the least possible
electron repulsion. By observing a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the electrons are positioned closer to the oxygen atom, the upper segment of the molecule is
slightly negatively charged (gaining negative charge from electron) and the lower segment is slightly
positively charged (losing negative charge from electron) . Therefore water is a polar molecule.
A polar molecule is a molecule that possesses a negative charge at one end, and a positive charge at
another end, caused by the positioning of the electrons due to electronegativity. However, a molecule
can have a positive and a negative charged end and still be non polar. Dipoles are a measure of
polarity that are caused by a variation in electronegativity. The difference in electronegativity results
in an atom having a greater pull on the shared pair of electrons. If the shape of a molecule causes
equal dipole magnitude and an equal distance between the dipole vectors, then the dipoles cancel out
and the molecule is considered non polar .A polar molecule possesses a neutral net charge as the
positive and negative sections of the molecule eliminate an imbalance in charge. Polarity is exclusive
to covalent bonded compounds, as electron sharing is required in order for partial positivity and partial
negativity to occur. The only covalent molecules that don t contain polar bonds are those including
atoms that possess an equal electronegativity, such as H2, or O2, as neither atom possesses a larger
attractive force than the other acting upon the electrons .

War causes Xenophobia. War is an armed conflict between more than two parties. Xenophobia is a
behavior that promotes fear or hatred against different cultures. Causal Mechanism War divides the
countries involved into two sides: us versus them. This division allows prejudice to permeate both
sides, creating racial slurs and stereotypes that define opposing sides. For example, characterizing
opponents as backwards or barbaric creates the idea that the opponents population is under oppressive
rule and require liberation. These slurs and stereotypes spill over to the population, who might be
influenced by propaganda to favor war. By constructing this narrative, it allows individuals from both
sides to conjure ideas against their enemies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hostilities against other nations occur for many reasons including colonialism, differences in culture
and politics, bad policies, proximity, and immigration. That being said, it is evident hostilities and
xenophobia have existed before war. Colonialism has helped shape many of the concepts of race in the
modern world. The domination of one race over another race plants an idea of racial superiority for
both the colonizer and the colonized. The skewed power dynamic that emerges from colonialism
effectively creates ideas like xenophobia. Moreover, the colonizers by imposing certain rules like
establishing which faiths are practiced or imposing slavery foster hostilities tow the colonized. The
arrival of African slaves demonstrates how the colonizers viewed slaves as barbaric and less human,
which allowed to them argue slavery provided discipline and humanity. The hatred against the
different cultures of Africa, which colonizers attempted to change with religion, proves how the
xenophobia occurring in colonial America did not emerge from war. These discriminatory statutes
institutionalized discrimination, creating xenophobia against those were different and did not resemble

Food Bank And Moral Model Analysis
Being able to acknowledge the one in need of help, really can make a difference. There are many ways
of helping through the small deeds, but also through the greater ones, such as food banks. The two
models discussed in class covered a moral model, in which help is based off of a personal
characteristic (Collver: September 20, 2017). And the other is the charity model in which it is the
practice of help emerging from the notions of mortality (attitudes and beliefs about the right and
wrong) (Collver: September 20, 2017). Both models are influenced by a moral discourse of
deservingness. Within the learnings in class and through discussions in tutorials, I can reflect that the
notion of helping through food banks or from any form of help in that matter, is not always wanted.
Some individuals refuse to accept the help they receive because they believe that others think of them
as weak . There is often pity associated with wanting to help. However, there are also people who take
food banks for granted because they are getting free food and not making an effort to change or find
ways to get them out of that state. Food banks put a lot of effort in meeting the standards of ... Show

stigmas are still persistent. For example, in a tutorial we discussed the forms of which help becomes

Figure 4 Fischer Esterification Mechanism (Gunawardena, 2009) Practically, the procedure involves
the heating a mixture of an alcohol and a carboxylic acid in the presence of an acid catalyst to yield an
ester and water as end product. The reaction is reversible and the position of equilibrium depends on
the reaction conditions. An excess of the alcohol favor the formation of the ester. While the presence
of water drives the reaction backwards. (John McMurry, 2007) This concept of driving thereaction
forward makes use of Le Chatelier s principle states that When an equilibrium system is subjected to
change in temperature, pressure, or concentration of reacting species, the system responds by attaining
a new equilibrium that partially offsets the impact of change. (Petrucci, 2010) The structure of the

districts as for absences. However, Spokane s population and number of certified staff is greatly fewer
than that of Belton and Neosho district. The areas of significant differences are; number of sick and
personal days allowed to be accumulated and number of days available for funeral/death leave.
Spokane School Districts policies are relatively the same as the other districts that were used in the
study. Although there are marginal differences in the following areas: 1. Number of sick days granted
2. Military leave
Florence School District, a district which was used in the study, has a policy that has major variances
than ours, in the number of sick and personal days that can be accumulated, and a slight differences in
the amount of sick days that are allowed annually. Concerning substitute teachers, our district pays
$80/daily and the qualifications are sixty college hours and a Missouri Sub. Teachers Certificate,
whereas, Florence sub. pays is $61/daily, and requirements are a High School Diploma and/or a pass
score on the sub. test. Even with the Florence providing teachers in their district. with 3 additional
days for leave, with their sub. pay being $61/daily the district cost for a sub. would total $951. Where
our district provides teachers three fewer days, and a sub. rate of $80/daily, brings the total district

Future of FDI in Canada in oil and gas sector
Even though Canadian government are showing protective approach presently because of several

rejection from the country s environmentalists because it is taking away the natural resources and

towards it. On the other hand, government are taking steps to make sure that too much power or all
assets are not handled by foreign companies. But some economists believe the rules and regulations of
the government in the past has benefited and supported foreign firms rather than domestic firms,
because they were trying to cut down the expenses and increase profit in the form of tax. So, the Gray

All officers, executives, managers, and employees should respect the privacy of all employees,
customers, and other stakeholders. The dignity principle also explicitly forbids child labor and allows
the employees to have the option to join a union for representation. Finally, this principle calls on all
stakeholders to respect other cultures and beliefs (Stanwick amp; Stanwick, 2009). The fairness
principle requires that all stakeholders be treated fairly and it defines fairness in four ways. Reciprocal
fairness speaks to treating other parties fairly and having them treat the company and its employees
properly as well. Distributive fairness discusses the proper allocation of limited corporate resources to
maximize their benefit for the company as a whole. Competitive fairness involves interaction with
existing and potential competitors. Competitive fairness must include fair treatment of your
competitors and does not allow collusion, bribes, or other illegal relationships. Procedural fairness
requires that the company and its employees treat all parties that interact with the firm properly and
with due process, including any internal employees who notify authorities of any illegal actions taking
place at the company (Stanwick amp; Stanwick, 2009). The key aspect of the citizenship principle is
that every employee should be a responsible citizen in the community. All officers, executives,

It was like seditious and insidious too, and like socialist, suspicious, fascist and Communist. It was an
odious, alien, distasteful name, a name that just did not inspire confidence. It was not at all like such
clean, crisp, honest, American names such as Catchcart, Peckem and Dreedle. (Heller 210)
The quote above describes the relationship with Colonel Cathcart, in which Cathcart has a worrying
doubt about Yossarian and his role in the squadron. Yossarian complains to Doc Daneeka about
Colonel Cathcart s dictum regarding the mission count during every visit to the medical tent. Cathcart
s opinion about Yossarian also dawns upon the other men who start to wonder about the man with that
name and who he actually is. One of the main points within the story is when the soldiers question
Yossarian during the death of Lt. Mudd, whom the men continuously call the dead man in Yossarian s
tent (Heller 166). A character that changes Yossarian completely about war is Snowden. After
Snowden s death, Yossarian is given a medal of honor for fighting through that battle, but unlike the
other men, Yossarian shows up in a disorderly fashion. He realizes that he doesn t want to be in a war
like atmosphere anymore and starts to long for his trips throughout Italy. It is after these trips that
Yossarian tries to weasel his way out of the squadron by feigning sicknesses and pleading for Doc
Daneeka to claim him insane. Just because you re paranoid doesn t mean they aren t

The Displacement Analysis
The Displacement
In the first stage of the college tuition bubble, three events composed the Displacement required. The
first was a societal paradigm shift in how we view college and higher education. After the discovery of
both the benefits of higher education and the political value of advocating for it, politicians,
community leaders, and media, in general, all conveyed repeated social, political, and cultural
messages on the importance of college. Currently, seven in ten adults believe a college education is
very important and more than nine in ten thought it was at least fairly important. In 1978, only 36%
thought of college as very important, demonstrating the massive rise in demand due to increased
messages in favor of higher education.

St. Paul s Letter To Colossians
Throughout the history of religion, there have been men who have left a remarkable works to the
world. St. Paul who accepted the calling of God to be his disciple is one of these great men. He has
written a prestigious letter to the community of Colossians in order to correct their beliefs. In this
work I will try to investigate the background of the letter, and discuss the motivation that caused St.
Paul to write to this letter to the community of Colossians.
Background
According to history, Paul writes this letter to the Colossians who has embraced the doctrine of Jesus
Christ. This letter was written to the Christians of the city of Colossae that Paul never visited. The

He wrote to warn the Colossians of the danger of returning to their old beliefs and practices. He also
refuted the false teaching that was threatening this congregation. The outstanding Christian doctrine
with which this letter deals is Christology which means that Jesus Christ is the high truth and is our
savior and nobody outside him can save them. His main purpose was to let the community of Colossae
know that Jesus Christ has absolute authority. He invited the Community of Colossae to seek an
encounter with Jesus Christ, and when they have the encounter, they will know Jesus Christ is
supreme truth. Jesus has to be the center their life. Paul exhorted them to base their trust in the Word
of God rather than in human traditions that do not accurately reflect biblical revelation. The matter of
paramount importance to the church is its doctrine of Christ. Our Christian life and service will flow
from our doctrine of Christ. Not only must Christ take a place in our lives, but our understanding must
be exact in Jesus. We can avoid all the errors of which Paul warns us in this epistle by maintaining an
adequate perspective of

Bhagat Singh admitted his crime and made statements in the court against the British as a tool to
publicise their cause of freedom struggle. However, the court ordered the case to be carried out
without members of the association who were present at the hearing. This order produced a chaos
amongst the supporters of Bhagat Singh. Bhagat Singh along with other prisoners launched hunger
strike in the jail. The main reason behind this was that the British thieves and murderers were given
better treatment than the Indian prisoners. According to law the Indian political prisoners were
supposed to be given better rights. Bhagat also demanded that the Indian political prisoners should not
be forced to do any sort of undignified work. This hunger strike lasted for 63 days and ended with the
submission of British power. With this he gained tremendous popularity. Ideology of Bhagat Singh
Bhagat Singh used to maintain diary while in jail. Eventually he made to fill 404 pages. The diary was

I visited the Ancient American exhibit at the Field Museum and analyzed the voices that I heard within
the different sections: the researchers, the curators or the people. Throughout the exhibit, I heard
different voices, but the strongest voice I heard was the curators who put together the exhibit. The
museum did a successful job at attaining all the facts about the Ancient Americans despite the lack of
native people to get information from, but they were unsuccessful at capturing the people s voice
within the exhibit. In the Ice Age portion, I heard the voice of researchers because it was presented as

The giant sun stone in Empire Builders had the voice of the people. It was something that really stood
out and screamed culture to me. I could really imagine all of the work and care it took to build, and I
thought about the skill the people must have needed to be able to build it. The Box of Treasures film
clip gave a better insight into the lifestyle of the people than the museum. The film talked about the
traditions the people had, the traditions they had to give up, the suffering that they went through, what
they did to perish through these sufferings, and how they felt and how the people from the culture that
are alive today feel about it all. It also showed the people engaging in these different activities and
cultures. The museum was unsuccessful in showing the emotions of the people of the past or the
current ones who are alive today. Although there were boards about what those alive had to say, they
did not have much emotion reflecting how it is to live in that culture. This could be due to museum, or

Canadian Identity In Canada
Canadian identity refers to the unique culture, characteristics and the condition of being Canadian, as
well as the many symbols and expressions that set Canada and the citizens apart from other people and
cultures of the world. There is an enormous amount of factors when it comes to Canada s identity and
as time goes one it becomes stronger and stronger. As mentioned above, people have been
immigrating to the nation for centuries, and with them they bring their cultures and traditions
strengthening the multicultural aspects of Canadian identity. No nation has a set identity, every day the
world is changing and with it so does the identity of the people. In an instant a nation could change its
values and other aspects. For example, pre American Revolution the identity that the United States had
included how it was a colony of Great Britain, after the revolution is garnered a new identity as its
own nation.
As well of opportunities there is a great deal of challenges that affect identity on a daily basis. Canada
has had a lot of challenges towards its identity to overcome, regional alienation, American influences,
and separatism. For instance, Canada has always experienced alienation, whether it be due to
geography or one s heritage. Regional alienation occurs due to the fact that Canada is such a large and
vast country, which only furthers the feeling of separation between Canadians. The western provinces
of Canada British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and

Loyola University of Chicago
Abstract
Power over Ethernet or PoE is a technology that dispense electrical power and data transmission to
devices, such as IP cameras or phones, access points wireless or bluetooth. PoE devices that are placed
in remote locations stop not only the need for power outlets, but also cut down the installation costs
and enable the network devices to be adaptable in that region. Consumers and vendors of IP phones
were either supplying local power through an AC (alternating current) electrical outlet or using non
standards based proprietary solutions to provide inline powering. The release of 802.3af came ... Show

Since PoE is used by terminating equipment it consumes little power.
Besides being used in IP telephones, cameras or wireless transmission, PoE can assure a better safety
of a network while it operates as an inessential power supply. PoE makes the network planning
flexible and independent of switch cabinets and sockets. For a better security, it is necessary to shut
down all the PDs that are not in use or not necessary in the office or where are being used. Also with
the popularity of the PoE. it is very easy to use PoE with a variety of other devices.
On one hand, we have Power over Ethernet PSE (Power Supplying Equipment) which supplies PoE
PD devices with electricity via the data cable and is also a source of voltage. It may use either End
Span or Mid Span. The end span method basically means that there is a hardware device such as a
PoE capable switch at the beginning of the twisted pair cable. A PoE capable switch simply defines a
switch that has the capability of transmitting DC voltage over the twisted pair cable along with data.
Figure 1: Power supplied from LAN equipment with end span PSE
The other method, known as Mid span, provides power on the twisted pair cable at some point after
the switch/router but before the device you are powering. An example of a Mid span device would be
something like a Single Port PoE injector (Planet3 Wireless, 2005). A Single Port PoE injector has a
port for the incoming Ethernet cable, a cord for the

How Robots Have Impacted Life
Robots are a computer machines that are designed to perform many physical tasks either domestic or
industrial. Robots have severely and positively impacted life and are intended to positively impact
future life. They make it really easy to accomplish tasks and save humans from doing the most
difficult tasks. They have developed to the point where they have revolted against people and are
advancing to take over the world by taking over humans and preventing humans from completing
undesired tasks. They are considered to be more flexible and more adaptable than other automated
systems. This technology is advancing over years and robots are now able to perform many tasks more
quickly, cheaply and accurately than humans. There were many domestic solutions of the use of
robotics in the past when the microwave was invented. In today s present society robotics has created
an automated vacuum cleaner which is an iRobot called Roomba. The use of robotics is emerging
throughout society and is intended to make industrial solutions such as robots used for working and
construction in the future
In history of robotics, an invention was the microwave. This is considered as a domestic robot
machine because of its incorporated features. The microwave consists of many control devices that
allows microwave operators to input their desired amount of time and the food, the microwave then
processes the food so it results in the temperature of heat as desired by the operator. The microwave

Canadian Bilingualism Essay
A nation is made up of people with similar beliefs, ethnic backgrounds, values, histories, cultures, and
languages. In many ways, a nation should be a foundation of identity, depending on what it is, to the
extent that individuals also have their independent characteristics.
The linguistic aspect of a nation can impact its citizens. For example, China includes any dialects of
Chinese language and Mandarin is one of the most spoken languages. Languages are what bind people
together socially and personally. Language is what allows people to have an individual identity. On the
other hand, Canada has two dominant languages, English and French and these languages have

Culture is closely related to ethnicity, although they are not the same thing. For example, Aboriginals
might be united ancestrally, but Inuit culture is different compared to Iroquois culture and Cree
culture. Canada is known as a multination state, meaning that Canada does not support any culture
over another. When immigrants come to Canada, they are free to express their culture and values in
public. This multiculturalism also makes Canada unique.
Some factors of nations can directly affect their citizen, like language, while other factors only affect
them through exercise. Patriotism is an example shown through love for one s country. For example,
people can show patriotism through joining Canada s armed forces or respecting their national
anthem. One can even criticize their government s actions or policies, if they are seen wrongly, to
show patriotism.
Religion is used in nations to unify citizens and create the collective identity. For example, Hinduism
is a dominant religion in India, which gives India a sense of identity. However, religion can also divide
people, because it might brew conflict. An example being the crisis in Syria, where there is conflict
between Muslims and the other minority religions. People also may have spiritual connections to their
land, the Aboriginals of Australia they have spiritual connections to their land. To the aboriginals, their

North Sentinel Island Case Study
C. North Sentinel Island has an interesting geographical background and some numerous unusual
demographics. North Sentinel Island is located in the Bay of Bengal, and because of that, the
geography helped shaped their initial isolationist policies. Due to their location in the Bay of Bengal,
the island helps strengthen their isolationist principles. i. Since it is an island, the shore of North
Sentinel Island is covered and surrounded by coral reefs. ii. According to Adam Goodheart who

The Issue Of The Second Amendment
The Second Amendment is one of the most controversial amendments in today s society. There are
commonly two sides that fight with each other over the definition of this amendment. The pro gun, or
what is commonly referred to as gun nuts , have the firm belief that the American people have the
right to not only carry a gun, but to carry any type of gun that they want, while anti gun groups want
to get rid of the right to carry a gun all together unless that person is a soldier or police officer. The
part of the Second Amendment that is quoted by both sides is always A well regulated militia being
necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be
infringed . Did you know that there are actually two versions used by the federal and state
government? The only difference is the punctuation. Congress passed, A well regulated Militia, being
necessary to the security of a free Sate, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed . The States ratified what Congress had passed to, A well regulated militia being necessary to
the security of a Free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed . Do
the differences in punctuation and capitalization change the meaning? Many people believe that the
Second Amendment means that only the military should have the right to carry guns. They believe that
A well regulated militia is referring to trained soldiers, when in fact, the Second

The Impact Of Historic Events On The Social Environment...
identity can change over time in a society with the effects of historic events, changes in the social
environment and the active participation of the people to create new social constructs and institutions.
In order for nationalism to even start several prerequisites had to be met. These were the creation of a
print system for books to be created. These books would spread the ideas of nationalism, the
enlightenment and other philosophical movements across the world. Next is the capitalist system
which would naturally seek to reach a larger audience and thus a larger profit margin which lead to the
development of the vernacular print. Print in vernacular allowed for regular people to read the ideas
printed in the books and understand them, which ultimately spread the ideas and values of these
cognitive revolutions to the common man. These changes to written language changed its role forever.
In the past, written language was reserved specifically for the political, intellectual, or religious elite.
The religious elite especially relied on the control of the written word to control and influence the
thoughts of the masses, and this was true for most, if not all religions across the world. A consequence
of written language being used by the common people to spread the ideas of the enlightenment
allowed for the dismantlement of the concept of rule by divine right. The spread of rationalism in turn
encouraged the use of rational discourse amongst the common people,

Egoism Vs Altruism
Egoism and Altruism are two ideas widely known in philosophy as two opposing ideas based on the
actions of individuals. Egoists believe that act for their own self interest. Altruists believe that
individuals act for the welfare of others. These two ideas highlight the differences between two
extreme natures. People by nature are egoists. This will be proven by exploring philosophers such as
Ayn Rand, Thomas Hobbes, Henry Sidgwick and their theories on egoism involving rational and
ethical egoism. Additionally, it will be proven using philosophers such as Derek Parfit and Jean
Jacques Rosseau who criticize these ideas, but are ultimately wrong.

The Third Man By Richard Rodriguez
The small city of Brownsville is small in both population and mind. Even though there are individuals
who commute morning and night from country to country, there is no unity. Growing up, I had never
experienced a diverse city. In the city of Brownsville, Hispanics are the majority. As a result,
individuals who saw somebody of a different race or ethnicity would make negative and offensive
comments towards them. At times, these offensive comments were accidental. Other times, the
offensive comments were on purpose and intended to appear humorous to friends. Apart from
discriminatory remarks to outsiders, this happened amongst people of my Hispanic community.

One day in the 1960s, the success of the Negro Civil Rights movement encouraged Hispanics (along
with other groups of Americans) to insist on the coveted black analogy, and thus claim the spoils of
affirmative action.
The coveted black analogy , which Rodriguez states that Hispanics insist[ed] on, can be viewed as an
acknowledgment to the suffering that African Americans experienced. Due to this struggle, African
Americans were one of the primary groups that affirmative action was meant to help. As a result,
Rodriguez implies that by seeing the benefits that African Americans were receiving, Hispanics
wanted to be included as well. In Rodriguez s perspective, this led Hispanics to claim the spoils of
affirmative action even though they were not the group that affirmative action was initially geared
toward.
Overall, the chapter, which focuses on Hispanicity , impacted me because I began to formulate ideas
which opposed those that had been hammered into my mind all my life. For so long I had heard that
minorities were victims to oppression by whites and for that reason minorities should strive to do
more than what is expected from them. In reading Rodriguez s claim, questions that had never been
explored in my development arose in my mind such as Are Hispanics really the victims? , Do
Hispanics truly strive to their fullest to accomplish things that have never been done? , and lastly, Are
Hispanics committing acts of hypocrisy? . If a Hispanic

  • 2. The Spiritual Discipline Of Worship Introduction The spiritual discipline that I have chosen is worship. When I think of the term worship my initial response is singing to God but throughout this course I have learnt that although singing is one important aspect of worship, that it is so much more than just that. Worship is to honour and adore the Trinity as the supreme treasure of life. Worship is offering your whole self to God. Worship is a choice and a way of life. Summarise your original understanding of the discipline before the course started Before I began studying the discipline of worship I understood worship as singing to God. I believed that it was something that came naturally to every believer, that it was something that you just did when you were a Christian. To think of worship as a discipline was a bit of a struggle for me. I understood worship to be lifting God up with your voice either in church meetings or in your quiet time at home and only had a basic understanding of what living a lifestyle of worship looked like. A Significant Christian figure in history who has contributed to this discipline The significant Christian figure that I would like to focus on is William Booth. William was born in England, gave his life to Jesus at the age of 15 and is best known today as founder and first general of the Salvation Army . William had a passion for music and a niche for using secular songs to reach the lost, although he was often criticized by others for doing so. He contributed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Student Needs On School-Wide Transition Student Needs Title 1 School wide Transition Our efforts as teachers to boost learning are most effective when we share the same philosophy: The focus is all about the kids, not what works best for us, as teachers. A student centered mindset is proving what s best for each child. Our current MTSS (Multi Tiered System of Support) pathway provides a backbone to students academic needs. To assure that all students have every opportunity to reach their full potential, various programs and interventions are in place to meet the unique needs of all students who attend Oakes Elementary. Therefore, it was only pertinent that I take our Title 1 program to that same level and lead our school through the process of transitioning from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the opportunity arose, it was a no brainer that we had to take the leap. The many hours of completing a comprehensive needs assessment, brainstorming and documenting school wide reform strategies, along with compiling four goals that were considered big and scary, we were doing what s best for kids! I thank Anna Sell, my building principal, for believing in me and providing necessary information so that this could become a reality for our school. The final outcome of this endeavor was to be named Title 1 Exceptional Teacher of the Year. I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the fantastic team of teachers, administration, and most importantly the lives we touch everyday...the kids! This award comes with a $12,000 grant to be spent on allowable expenditure to upgrade what we do here at OES for kids. I am excited to look into a few new ideas for my classroom with flexible seating, attend the National Title 1 convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in February 2018 with a colleague, and purchase materials for our strategic and intensive interventions. By all means, we are not finished here! Our teaching staff meets weekly to discuss student needs, performance, and assessments. Then in the spring of the year, I will hold a meeting and school wide review for all teaching staff and parents where we will look into the data and determine academic achievement ... • 4. The Effect Of Temperature Increases Due On Anthropogenic... Abstract The purpose of this article by Diffenbaugh et.al. is to determine how temperature increases due to anthropogenic warming change the probability of precipitation deficits that cause severe drought conditions, and determine what the conditions will look like in the future. They used historical precipitation and temperature data with Palmer Drought Metrics and global climate models to attempt to answer this question. It was found that in the past twenty years, the frequency of drought years has doubled, without any significant change in the trends of precipitation variability. This was attributed to significant increases in positive temperature anomalies causing an increased frequency of precipitation deficits leading to more occurrences of drought years. Global climate modeling suggested that by 2030, the region will transition to a regime where there is a 100% risk that all future dry years will coincide with warmer conditions, increasing the risk of extended drought conditions. This is not the first time this region has experienced prolonged drought conditions. However, it is the first time the drought has been this severe. Since 1977, the per capita water usage has decreased such that in 2013 the water demand is similar to that of 1977, meaning that it will be very difficult to come up with new short term water conservation ideas. • 6. Effects Of CAI On Students With Disabilities STUDENT AT RISK AND WITH DISABILITIES Recently, CAI has become an acceptable instructional strategy to provide several academic outcomes for at risk students and those with disabilities. Even though there has been research on the effects and implications of CAI on students without disabilities, there is limited research evidence about the effects of CAI on students with disabilities. Ross et al., (1991) assessed the effects of CAI on students attitudes toward school, grades, computer skills, standardized test scores, and teacher evaluations using the Apple Classroom of Tomorrow (ACOT) program. Subjects were at risk seventh grade students. Results showed that the CAI group was successful in math and reading compared to the control group. However, they reported that some academic achievements were lost and students remained at risk because of lack of on going computer use and limited access to computer lab after the two year experiment. Considering the importance of time and on task behaviors in CAI, Salerno (1995) examined the mathematics achievements of at risk fifth graders. In this study, students were randomly assigned to three groups: extended computer time; extended time on task, and control group. All students participated in CAI, but the extended time computer group used an extra 60 minutes per week with CAI, and the extended time on task group used special workbooks with an equal amount of instructional time independently. The study s author used ANOVA to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Disengagement And Continuity Theory Analysis During the late 1900 s, many different psychosocial theories were used to define how human beings behave during the later years of life, but how well do these theories hold up today? In order to determine this, I asked my two grandmothers, Dana Russo (73) and Jane Steinthal (78), to answer a series of questions to determine if their retirement locations correlated with behaviors described in different theories of aging. While both sets of grandparents lived in New York at one point in time, Dana and her husband Richard permanently retired down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida a few years ago and both sets of grandparents go back and forth from each state once each year in order to unwind and visit family and friends. In each of the interviews, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Lesser) When asked about the pros and cons of living in New York, Jane responded with the following; besides from family, she has a busy life up north with her grandchildren, local community, and charity work and can only take the warm weather in bits and pieces. Jane was overall very outgoing socially, having a number of both new and old friends, and showed a willingness to help those she cares about no matter how far away they are. She even stated that she d probably do more if she ever moved to Florida in order to replace the current hobbies she has back at home like gardening and baking for her grandchildren. Jane is the definition of someone classified in the Activity and Social Construction theories, someone who benefits mentally from being their for others and getting involved with her community. However, what s fascinating is while Jane, a middle old elder, is the one exhibiting these attitudes toward life she, according to the theories, should be like Dana dealing with qualities of disengagement. According to an article written by professors from the University of Gävile, The disengagement theory starts from the assumption that, from middle age onwards, people begin to turn inward. Further the theory states that, as individuals grow older, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Causes Of Immigration In America The United States experienced major waves of immigration during the colonial era, the first part of the 19th century and from the 1880s to 1920. Many immigrants came to America seeking greater economic opportunity, while some, such as the Pilgrims in the early 1600s, arrived in search of religious freedom. From the 17th to 19th centuries, hundreds of thousands of African slaves came to America against their will. The first significant federal legislation restricting immigration was the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act. Individual states regulated immigration prior to the 1892 opening of Ellis Island, the country s first federal immigration station. New laws in 1965 ended the quota system that favored European immigrants, and today, the majority of the country s immigrants hail from Asia and Latin America. From its earliest days, America has been a nation of immigrants, starting with its original inhabitants who crossed the land bridge connecting Asia and North America tens of thousands of years ago. By the 1500s, the first Europeans, led by the Spanish and French, had begun establishing settlements in what would become the United States. In 1607, the English founded their first permanent settlement in present day America at Jamestown in the Virginia Colony. Some of America s first settlers came in search of freedom to practice their faith. In 1620, a group of roughly 100 people later known as the Pilgrims fled religious persecution in Europe and arrived at present day Plymouth, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But luckily in my life, I know that Sydney s Frozen Custard on the shores of Lake Superior in Grand Marais is my favorite place to be. I have been blessed with countless experiences of travel from touring Italy, snorkeling the Mexican coasts, surfing the Dominican waves, exploring the land of Ethiopia, and even inhaling the fresh air of the Netherlands, but no adventure of mine has lived up to the relaxing Grand Marais atmosphere. The tradition dates back to 2005, the first time I experienced the crisp Lake Superior air. My family pained through the six hour drive, and found it was well worth it. We fell in love with the small town ambiance, and to this day still cannot let go if it. So many monumental family experiences can be traced back to Grand Marais. Every year we celebrate America s birthday by watching the fireworks explode over the placid and reflective Lake Superior water. Skiing the powdery fresh hills of Lutsen Mountain and coming back to a warm and cozy room at East Bay suites, while drinking the free steamy hot cocoa given away at the inn is a memory that will never escape me. • 12. Overview Of Artificial Neural Networks Introduction Artificial neural networks are a class of computational structures (Lesk, 2013) made up of several processing elements, called artificial neurons that are connected and organized in layers (Larder et al., 2007). They are capable of generating models for the detection of non linear functions(..). Their algorithms are extensively applied in biology and medicine to solve complex problems, more specifically for prediction or classification of solutions or to refine methodological aspects. (Florence and Balasubramanie, 2010). Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a retrovirus that can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). (Kim et al., 2010). Artificial neural networks have been used extensively as a complimentary bioinformatics tool to make approximations of the cleavage site activity and specificity. First uses of ANNs to solve the problem The aim of first research study was to develop a classification model that, given a sequence of eight amino acids, could discriminate between sequences which are either cleavable or uncleavable by the HIV 1 protease. (Kim et al., 2010). The neural learning algorithms used most frequently was back propagation neural networks (BPNNs) (Thomson et al., 2003) because it performs well on prediction problems. (Sibanda and Pretorius, 2012). When BBNN was used for the prediction of the HIV 1 protease cleavage site, it gave a prediction accuracy 92%(Thomson et al., 2010) However, one of the major disadvantages of using ANNs to analyse biological data referred to the impossibility of most ANNs of recognizing non numerical features like amino acids. Hence an encoding process to model the amino acids was preferable. (Thomson et al., 2003) The advantage of the Bio basic functional neural networks The peculiarity of this algorithm relates to its ability to recognise amino acids directly. Thus, avoiding the use of 20 binary bits to represent each amino acid is advantageous. (2003) The prediction accuracy of BBFNN was proved in a research study using 362 HIV protease sequences, where 114 were with cleavage sites and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Chemical Substance Of Hydrogen Atoms Introduction: Water is a chemical substance composed atomically of an oxygen atom, and two hydrogen atoms, giving it the chemical formula H2O . It has a bent molecular structure, with the centralised oxygen atom at the top of the molecule with two lone pairs of electrons above it, and the two hydrogen atoms branching out below, each connected to the oxygen by covalent bonds. VSEPR (Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion) Theory is utilised in chemistry for the prediction of a molecules geometry. This theory was constructed off the idea that valence electron pairs around an atom have a tendency to repel each other, thus forcing the molecule to organise itself in a manner that creates the least possible electron repulsion. By observing a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the electrons are positioned closer to the oxygen atom, the upper segment of the molecule is slightly negatively charged (gaining negative charge from electron) and the lower segment is slightly positively charged (losing negative charge from electron) . Therefore water is a polar molecule. A polar molecule is a molecule that possesses a negative charge at one end, and a positive charge at another end, caused by the positioning of the electrons due to electronegativity. However, a molecule can have a positive and a negative charged end and still be non polar. Dipoles are a measure of polarity that are caused by a variation in electronegativity. The difference in electronegativity results in an atom having a greater pull on the shared pair of electrons. If the shape of a molecule causes equal dipole magnitude and an equal distance between the dipole vectors, then the dipoles cancel out and the molecule is considered non polar .A polar molecule possesses a neutral net charge as the positive and negative sections of the molecule eliminate an imbalance in charge. Polarity is exclusive to covalent bonded compounds, as electron sharing is required in order for partial positivity and partial negativity to occur. The only covalent molecules that don t contain polar bonds are those including atoms that possess an equal electronegativity, such as H2, or O2, as neither atom possesses a larger attractive force than the other acting upon the electrons . ... • 14. Korematsu V. United States War causes Xenophobia. War is an armed conflict between more than two parties. Xenophobia is a behavior that promotes fear or hatred against different cultures. Causal Mechanism War divides the countries involved into two sides: us versus them. This division allows prejudice to permeate both sides, creating racial slurs and stereotypes that define opposing sides. For example, characterizing opponents as backwards or barbaric creates the idea that the opponents population is under oppressive rule and require liberation. These slurs and stereotypes spill over to the population, who might be influenced by propaganda to favor war. By constructing this narrative, it allows individuals from both sides to conjure ideas against their enemies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hostilities against other nations occur for many reasons including colonialism, differences in culture and politics, bad policies, proximity, and immigration. That being said, it is evident hostilities and xenophobia have existed before war. Colonialism has helped shape many of the concepts of race in the modern world. The domination of one race over another race plants an idea of racial superiority for both the colonizer and the colonized. The skewed power dynamic that emerges from colonialism effectively creates ideas like xenophobia. Moreover, the colonizers by imposing certain rules like establishing which faiths are practiced or imposing slavery foster hostilities tow the colonized. The arrival of African slaves demonstrates how the colonizers viewed slaves as barbaric and less human, which allowed to them argue slavery provided discipline and humanity. There are many ways of helping through the small deeds, but also through the greater ones, such as food banks. The two models discussed in class covered a moral model, in which help is based off of a personal characteristic (Collver: September 20, 2017). And the other is the charity model in which it is the practice of help emerging from the notions of mortality (attitudes and beliefs about the right and wrong) (Collver: September 20, 2017). Both models are influenced by a moral discourse of deservingness. Within the learnings in class and through discussions in tutorials, I can reflect that the notion of helping through food banks or from any form of help in that matter, is not always wanted. Some individuals refuse to accept the help they receive because they believe that others think of them as weak . There is often pity associated with wanting to help. It doesn t matter what I m doing, it could be playing video games, riding my bike, or at work. When I succeed at something I give myself a lot of credit. To some people this may seem like I m conceded, or that I like to show off. The reality of it is that rewarding myself for doing something good motivates me to continue to do good things. It s a way for me to motivate myself. The way I credit myself is not in the fashion of gloating, or showing off my success, but the opposite. I play off my successes like they re no big deal. To begin, hunting will dramatically lower the deer population as the bucks do not have a chance to impregnate does, thus preventing an increase in the population. • 36. The Impact Of Historic Events On The Social Environment... identity can change over time in a society with the effects of historic events, changes in the social environment and the active participation of the people to create new social constructs and institutions. In order for nationalism to even start several prerequisites had to be met. These were the creation of a print system for books to be created. These books would spread the ideas of nationalism, the enlightenment and other philosophical movements across the world. Next is the capitalist system which would naturally seek to reach a larger audience and thus a larger profit margin which lead to the development of the vernacular print. Print in vernacular allowed for regular people to read the ideas printed in the books and understand them, which ultimately spread the ideas and values of these cognitive revolutions to the common man. These changes to written language changed its role forever. In the past, written language was reserved specifically for the political, intellectual, or religious elite. The religious elite especially relied on the control of the written word to control and influence the thoughts of the masses, and this was true for most, if not all religions across the world. A consequence of written language being used by the common people to spread the ideas of the enlightenment allowed for the dismantlement of the concept of rule by divine right. The spread of rationalism in turn encouraged the use of rational discourse amongst the common people, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Third Man By Richard Rodriguez The small city of Brownsville is small in both population and mind. Even though there are individuals who commute morning and night from country to country, there is no unity. Growing up, I had never experienced a diverse city. In the city of Brownsville, Hispanics are the majority. As a result, individuals who saw somebody of a different race or ethnicity would make negative and offensive comments towards them. At times, these offensive comments were accidental. Other times, the offensive comments were on purpose and intended to appear humorous to friends. Apart from discriminatory remarks to outsiders, this happened amongst people of my Hispanic community. Richard Rodriguez, author of Brown: The Last Discovery of America, tackles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One day in the 1960s, the success of the Negro Civil Rights movement encouraged Hispanics (along with other groups of Americans) to insist on the coveted black analogy, and thus claim the spoils of affirmative action. The coveted black analogy , which Rodriguez states that Hispanics insist[ed] on, can be viewed as an acknowledgment to the suffering that African Americans experienced. Due to this struggle, African Americans were one of the primary groups that affirmative action was meant to help. As a result, Rodriguez implies that by seeing the benefits that African Americans were receiving, Hispanics wanted to be included as well. In Rodriguez s perspective, this led Hispanics to claim the spoils of affirmative action even though they were not the group that affirmative action was initially geared toward. Overall, the chapter, which focuses on Hispanicity , impacted me because I began to formulate ideas which opposed those that had been hammered into my mind all my life. For so long I had heard that minorities were victims to oppression by whites and for that reason minorities should strive to do more than what is expected from them. In reading Rodriguez s claim, questions that had never been explored in my development arose in my mind such as Are Hispanics really the victims? , Do Hispanics truly strive to their fullest to accomplish things that have never been done? , and lastly, Are Hispanics committing acts of hypocrisy? .
