The Battle Of Midway Saw The Sinking Of The Japanese Carriers
The battle of Midway saw the sinking of the Japanese carriers, Akagi; Soryu; Hiryu and Kaga as well
as the cruiser Mikuma. The American navy lost one carrier which was the USS Yorktown. The Battle
resulted in the deaths of 2500 Japanese navy men and 307 deaths to the American navy. The Japanese
had lost invaluable sailors in the battle as the crew on board the aircraft carriers were highly trained
and had many years of experience working on the complex carriers.(Source E) So when the Japanese
started to build new aircraft carriers they found that it was difficult to appoint crew has many had not
enough experience, this heavily delayed and cost the Japanese as by this stage the American army had
begun their campaign in taking back the islands the Japanese had taken over months before. Since
1930 the Japanese conquests with the Chinese had cause ever increasing friction with the US. From
the early 1940s America had banned exports of strategic materials such as scrap iron and metal to the
Japanese Empire, then in 1941 they lead and oil embargo and froze all of the Japanese assets. This had
huge effects on the Japanese Empire as they imported 90% of their oil. Because of this the Japanese
leadership made the decision to invade and take over neighbouring territories and take their resources
which Japan lacked. But before this could be done they faced a great and powerful obstacle, the
American naval fleet at Hawaii s Pearl Harbour. And thus this lead to Japan s attack on Pearl

The Sex Of Sex Work
The world of sex work has been around for countless years. Hollywood portrays it as a normal way of
life in all the cowboy movies and put a glamorous feel around it. However, Hollywood is about selling
dreams and fantasy, though the reality is quite different. The reality is that sex work is dangerous. The
act in and of itself is not usually dangerous, nevertheless, the situations in which it needs to be
conducted are. Today s sex work incorporates more than just prostitution; the adult film industry,
Dom/Sub work, phone sex operators, together with exotic dancing are all considered sex work. The
focus of this essay has been narrowed down to just the prostitution aspect of sex work and the
decriminalization for the means of creating a safer environment for the worker. Decriminalization of
this particular type of sex work would render the job safer for the workers given that they would have
the ability to screen clients, an established place of employment, safety in numbers, a positive
relationship with law enforcement, and enhanced means to protect themselves from health risks.
Screening of the clients is a key aspect of keeping the sex workers safe. Screening the clients is a lot
about reading people, their clothes, their attitude, how they hold themselves and trusting the
experience of the worker s instinct. The screening process will not work every single time, however,
the ability to make the decision to go with a client or not can save the workers life. Escorts and

My Family Is Important In Life
My godmother told me that she s the one who gave my name Megan because, my Mother lost many of
blood, so the nurse just asked my godmother about my name and everything. My Father wasn t there

Descartes Mind Over Matter

Mind over Matter
In his meditations Descartes supposed there was two fundamentally different sorts of substances in the
universe, physical stuff, which bodies and chairs etc. are made up of; which is extended in space,
hence he called it res extensa, but there s also mind stuff which isn t in space at all thinking stuff or,
res cogitans. Bodies are made of res extensa and minds are made of res cogitans and the two are
separate. To understand why he thought this we must go back to his mission statement, which was to
doubt everything he could in order to find something indubitable which he thought would be certain
knowledge. Descartes found that he could doubt everything except that he was thinking since doubt
was a kind of thinking, and since thinking requires a thinker he knew that he must exist hence the
famous I think therefore I am syllogism known as the cogito. Descartes goes on to say that he can
doubt the existence of his body and all other physical things but he cannot doubt his mind exists
because of the cogito.
Descartes flaw is his liberal use of Leibniz s law, the identity of indiscernibles. The ontological
principle states that there cannot be separate objects or entities that have all of their properties in
common. That is to say, if you have two things and they have all the same properties, including their
position in space, you don t really have two things because they are identical; by the same token if two

Edward T. Hall s Four Spatial Zones
Anthropologist Edward T. Hall has defined four spatial zones that we use depending upon the content
that we are communicating and the level of self disclosure. Hall s four spatial zones begin with what
he calls intimate space, skin contact to 18 inches away, this is the space that we use for intimate
conversations, secrets, and deeper levels of self disclosure. The second of Hall s spatial zones is
personal space, 18 inches to 4 feet away, this spatial zone is used to communicate personal
information, but is less intimate than that of intimate space. The third of Hall s spatial zones is social
space, 4 to 12 feet away, in this spatial zone occurs more formal and impersonal communication. The
fourth of Hall s spatial zones is public space, 12 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Family and friends know when you re behaving out of the ordinary, and because they know you at a
deeper level they feel they can tell you to stop a certain behavior without hurting your feelings.
Strangers, on the other hand only know you at superficial level and don t feel comfortable correcting
your behavior, strangers don t know how you typically behave and probably think that you go around
making people feel uncomfortable all the time. I also learned that it not just invading people s physical
space that leaves them feeling uneasy, but violating spatial zones by discussing content that is
inappropriate for certain zones. When you discuss content that is only appropriate for intimate spatial
zones so that it can be heard in a public spatial zone it makes people feeling very uncomfortable. Like

The Metaphysical And Victorian Concept Of Love Essay
The Metaphysical and Victorian concept of love is as diverse as it can be particularly comparing the
intense love shown in Porphyria s Lover by Robert Browning with the playful love in nature in To His
Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell. Love has multiple definitions and it has so far remained among the
most complex subject that require a single particular definition to define its meaning. Plato once said
At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet and that s why may be we have so many diverse poetry
on the subject of love with so many different definitions of love that are available. Shakespeare wrote
in his Sonnet 116 defining love, Love is not love which alters when alteration finds, or bends with the
remover to remove , talking about the passion and loyalty, a belief unassailable, That look on tempests
and is never shaken . Such intensity that Shakespeare shows and the partial playful nature that Plato
hints has the possibilities for influencing a writer to produce unique individual thoughts, with different
approach and equally persuading in nature.
The term metaphysical poets was coined by the critic Samuel Johnson to describe a loose group of
17th century English poets whose work was characterized by the inventive use of conceits, and by a
greater emphasis on the spoken rather than lyrical quality of their verse. These poets were not formally
affiliated and few were highly regarded until 20th century attention established their importance.

WINDS OF CHANGE THE INESCAPABLE ROUTE
The Necessity
6. The Indian trade, industry and economy had been stagnating in the years preceding 1991 due to
Govt regulating the industry, and state protection policies of licensing, high tariffs and administered
prices. These protectionist policies made our industries complacent and curtailed the competitive spirit
of the firms, making them inefficient in the intensely competitive global market. The state of Indian
economy was in such doldrums that there was a necessity for the Indian Govt to implement drastic
fiscal policies and a controlled deregulation.
7. The Economic Turnaround of 1991. The state of the Indian economy made the govt realise that they
could no more remain isolated from the world economy, and therefore, brought in economic
liberalisation and free economy. Deregulation, free flow of goods within and outside the country and
encouragement of foreign technology became the order of the day. The new policies brought in a
fierce competition, which epitomised the age old dictum of survival of the fittest . Many firms were
forced to close shop because of obsolescence of their product or technology and lack of skills to

Why did others seek to conquer this land and make their mark in history on it? Who were the travelers
who came to discover this strange land back in the days when others were hesitant? Perhaps it is the
famous cuisine which blends a twist of Mediterranean met with a kiss of French. This paper will give
you an insight deep look into Morocco and all of the elements that make this country so great. It will
also offer a strong in depth look into the future of Morocco in the next coming years. Geography
Geographically, Morocco in itself is not all that big, as the size of it is one tenth larger than California
(French, 2010). It has borders to the north of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. You can
reach other countries such as Spain from the strait of Gibraltar which is on its far northern border. One
simply has to take a ferry boat that runs in the strait to get to from Spain into the city of Tanger in
Morocco. From this point you simple can hop aboard the national rails ONCF that connect Tanger
with other famous cities in Morocco such as Casablanca, and Marrakech. It also borders Algeria to the
east. To the west is another border Morocco possesses with the Western Sahara, Morocco has held an
on again off again occupation since the 1970. This would very much so be considered a border dispute
and depends on who you talk to within the country. This

In the 2014 book, The Israeli Solution: A One State Plan for Peace in the Middle East, Caroline B.
Glick, an American Israeli journalist and author, examines Israeli administration of the contested
territories known as Judea and Samaria also know as the West Bank since the 1967 Arab Israeli war.
Glick s work criticises the current state of Israeli policy regarding the administration of the territory,
posits a policy recommendation, and discusses challenges in implementing such a method. By
appealing to human rights, and Jewish legal and historical rights, Glick suggests that Israel annex the
entirety of Judea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first premise essentially accuses the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) to have
grossly inflated the number of Arabs living in Judea and Samaria. The strategic inflation of population
is comparable to the PA Ministry of Health that had strategically inflated causality rates in the past
(see Operation Protective Shield in 2002). The objective her would be to gain political capital, as well
as to demonstrate to Israeli policy makers that the annexation of Judea and Samaria would destroy the
sensitive Jewish majority of the State of Israel. According to the research conducted by the American
Israeli group, the PCBS had inflated the Arab population of Judea and Samaria to 2.42 million. In
contrast, the AIDRG concluded that only 1.41 million Arabs lived in Judea and Samaria. Here, Glick
argues that the fact that 1.01 million fewer Arabs lived in Judea and Samaria means that Israeli
annexation would not mean the end of the demographic integrity of the Jewish State. If the 1.41
million all became Israeli citizens, Israel s Jewish population would still have a ⅔

Invisible is more than a word. It is a lifestyle for some. Being invisible lets people hide away and be
shielded from everything outside. But that also means that it keeps you from experiencing things. In
the story White Balloons by Judith Ortiz Cofer, a girl named Doris lives a very hidden life. She
chooses to be invisible so she does not have to face as many problems. Everything changes when a
gay couple, Rick Sanchez and Joe Martini decide to start a theatre company. People in the barrio do

That it kept her safe. When Rick had just come she tried not to be noticed. She said, ... I had hung
back like I usually do, just watching, trying not to be noticed. (212) She had made a choice to hide
instead of showing herself and that was what she thought would be the best thing to do. The only
problem was that she could not do the things she wanted to do if she hid away. As the story was
coming to an end, Doris knew that Rick did not have much time left. She threw him and party and
gave a speech. She realized that by her giving a speech for Rick, she had changed other people s lives
and all of it happened because she didn t hide. She became visible. At the very end, Doris knew that
Rick had died. After the birthday party she threw him, she called him. In the voice mail, Rick said,
And, Doris, now that you have decided not to be invisible all the time, maybe you can keep the others
from fading away too. (211) All through the story, Doris was starting to come out of her shell and take

Film Analysis Of Get Out By American Peele
Get Out is an American horror film written and co directed by Jordan Peele, an African American
comedian known for his work on Comedy Central. In his directorial debut, Jordan narrates the lives of
a young interracial couple, Chris Washington and Rose Armitage, as they travel to Rose s hometown

the binaries of race, class, and gender in America using satire and the context of animated horror as a
methodology for enlightening their audience on their perspectives.
From the start of the movie, the dichotomy of blackness and whiteness is paramount in shaping the
plot of the movie. In the first scene, we are introduced to Chris Washington,

Similarities Between Rip Van Winkle And Young Goodman Brown
Nature: An Escape from Reality Throughout the story of Rip Van Winkle written by Washington
Irving and the tale of Young Goodman Brown authored by Nathaniel Hawthorne, nature acts as a
refuge for both of the main characters in the stories. In the story of Rip Van Winkle, Rip ventures into
the woods to escape his nagging wife at home, using the setting of nature as a refuge from his life at
home to escape his miserable home life. Rip s wife nags so much that he uses the Kaatskill mountains
as a refuge from her henpecking ways, ...his wife kept continually dinning in his ears about his
idleness, his carelessness, and the ruin he was bringing on his family. Morning, noon, and night, her
tongue was incessantly going. (956). In contrast, in the story of Young Goodman Brown, Goodman
Brown leaves his wife, Faith, for three months to complete a suspicious errand in the woods. In
contrast to Rip, Goodman Brown uses nature as a refuge from his faith in God, not his nagging wife at
home, in fact he loves his wife dearly. Despite the fact that nature is an apparent topic throughout both
stories, it is my claim that Washington Irving does a better job of presenting the use of the theme of
nature being a refuge due to his use of symbolism, setting, and characters to illustrate the theme that
nature acts as a a refuge. The story of Rip Van ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effect of the Current External Environment on the...
By now, most Americans must have heard or be familiar with a chain of coffeehouses, named
Starbucks. Established in 1971 as a local coffee bean roaster and retailer, Starbucks has expanded
rapidly. By successfully adopting Italian coffee culture into a variety of beverages such as brewed
coffee, espresso, teas, Frappuccinos and related products such as music CDs, pastries or ice creams,
the Seattle based company has reported USD 7.9 billion in revenue with 22 percent annual growth
(Starbucks, 2006) . Operating 13,168 stores in 41 countries, Starbucks has, inarguably, become one of
the largest and most recognizable coffeehouses all over the world (Harrison Enz, 2005). Meanwhile,

In contrast, beverage items which are rarely consumed by Chinese people such as bottled water,
alcohol like brandy and vodka, vegetable juice and coffee are highly elastic to income (ibid).
Therefore, the combination of Starbucks price factors, strong tea culture and high elastic in demand
for coffee may turn many Chinese customers to local coffee shops or lower price coffee providers
such as McDonalds and KFC.
To cope with strong tea culture and high elasticity of demand, Starbucks has redefined its target
market. Since China is a country where tea culture usually associates closely with old people,
promotion activities directed to young people who are more open to change and learn from Western
culture will be most likely to succeed. Therefore, the company bets its entire marketing effort on
targeting the new Chinese generation, the so called petty bourgeoisie , whose ages range from 18 to 44
with higher spending power and being attracted easily by high status brands (Adamy, 2006). In China,
due to its high population, the Chinese government has enacted the one child policy which prohibits
having more than one child. This later resulted in what is known as the six pocket syndrome . The
syndrome refers to the new Chinese generations who have been pampered and receive much more

Rhetorical Analysis Of Albee s Albee
Albee uses a silly and humorous tone of voice. He uses strong language and arguments throughout his
text. It establishes a silly tone for the text. Albee establishes this tone by writing, What? F what up?
No. F what up? (Albee 41). This quote shows the tone that Albee establishes throughout the text. It
also connects to the sexuality taboo that is in today s society. Albee s use of the the word F is often
referred to as sexual intercourse. Albee is highlighting how there s a certain taboo regarding sexuality.
Thompson writes his text with a candid type of tone. He narrates the story by describing what he goes
through by using strong and direct language. For example, he talks about the drug use that he and his
attorney indulged in. As seen in the quote, the only real cure is to load up on heinous chemicals and
then drive like a bastard from Hollywood to Las Vegas (Thompson 4). This quote shows Thompson s
erratic and candid tone. This quote also provides a deeper meaning. By Thompson describing his drug
addiction, it shows how today s society is dwelling in over consumption. Thompson s drug addiction
is a representation of today s excess consumption. Thompson s representation of today s society is also
found when he describes the drive from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to the drug and gambling
central Las Vegas. He describes the act of driving for hours while taking all sorts of drugs. This shows
how crazy he is and the excess of consumption. He uses

audience that his tribe is freezing to death ,and none of his children can be found. Chief Joesph uses
pathos in the speech by using emotion and convincing the audience by using emotional response. In
the first quote, I am tired of fighting, he explains that all of this fighting has him tired and he only

heart. Therefore, he wants peace with all enemies and wants to fight no more. In the second quote, My
heart is sick and sad, he describes he is sick and sad because of the deaths of the old men in his tribe
and the people who are freezing to death. Adding to that , he wants to find his people and his children.
In the final quote, The little children are freezing to death, he explains they have no food or blankets to

Our Safeguards Against Cyberterrorism And What We Can Do...

Paper #1
Our Safeguards against Cyberterrorism In reality, attacks in cyber space happen all the time. Over 20
million cyber attacks happened within Utah in 2013 each day, and this was from Utah s government
websites, not including businesses. ( Fortis Blog ) Just imagine the various ways one could hack a
website. Someone can even look up how to do it nowadays, and with at least half of the population in
the U.S. using a computer, there are an untold number of people who use hack from inside the country.
There are also those who hack from outside the country, and that is at least enough to accumulate up
to 20 million attacks a day. Unfortunately, there are fewer ways to secure ourselves from these attacks,
but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as a hacker can get information from any citizen in the world, a cyber terrorist can get information
from any government. The methods used to block these attacks could also be similar, even though
there might be a few select methods tailored to each.
Why do we need safeguards?
As it was stated earlier, attacks happen every day, probably too many to count, and the need to secure
our systems grows exponentially every day. New systems, devices, programs, etc., are being
developed, and the current growth of technology is quite staggering. We also give our information
online in order to use several services, such as Facebook and Amazon. This information can be used
against us, and used to find other pieces of personal information, such as a social security number. The
concern to guard our technology was present before some of us were even born. For example, in 1982,
the CIA created the logic bomb to disrupt a pipeline in Siberia, which opened up a new tool for
hackers ( 25 Biggest Cyber Attacks, 2013). In 2007, the email address belonging to the Secretary of
Defense was hacked as part of a spree to exploit weaknesses at the Pentagon ( history of cyber attacks
). Even a high ranking official s email address wasn t safe from cyberterrorists. This information alone
should scare some people into making cyber security the top of their worry list. Everyone s
information is always at risk.
How can we be attacked?

The Education Of Women By Daniel Defoe
Education plays a great role in distinguishing women from women or men from men. In the past, it
was uncommon for a woman to be educated. With this in mind, if a lady was educated, she was held
high in the eyes of men. A woman s main role during this time was to befriend her husband and to host
her husband s dinner parties. Due to this, men loved educated women because those who are educated
could hold witty conversations. If a male is married to a female who is educated, he is held at a great
standard because his dinner parties tend to be successful. In other words, having an educated wife
during this time period is equivalent to having a trophy wife. Daniel Defoe emphasizes why women
should be educated in his essay, The Education of Women. Because Defoe bases his argument off of
many presuppositions that do not hold true today, Defoe unconvincingly posits that women should
only be educated in order to be a trophy wife to their husbands. Defoe begins his argument by stating
that the world is a civilized and Christian country (111). With regards to the Christian country, there is
a story of Adam and Eve within the Christian religion. In the story, Eve was created to be a companion
for Adam. By Defoe presupposing that the world is Christian, his underlying message is that women
are created only to be companions to men. This presupposition does not hold true today. First off,
many people do not get married in the present day world. In fact, a 2010 census declared that 20

Green and gold pulses through my veins. Not only do I know this, but so does everyone who has ever

Baylor has been a part of my family for generations. My grandparents met at a Baylor basketball

my sister graduated last year. As you can imagine, having a copious amount of alumni in the family

Essay on Alan Bennett Talking Heads
Alan Bennett Talking Heads
In Bennett s monologues the main character faces an important decision which will affect the course
of their lives. I will go on and explain in this essay, the play writer s use of literary techniques
including setting, theme and characterisation which may make the decision seem correct or not.
Talking Heads was originally produced for BBC television but has recently been used as a collection
of short stories. Each of the characters portrayed, is played by an actress that has been previously
associated with Alan Bennett e.g.:Thora Hird who plays Doris worked on a BBC Radio 4 programme

Bennett reflects this very well by transferring this British habit to his characters. All of them are dead
against a change in their lifestyle.
This is excellently demonstrated in A Cream Cracker Doris wants to stay in her house, but the council
recommends she moves to a nursing home , but she refuses on the grounds of hygiene clearly this
shows that she is against a change of setting and a change of life and this is cleverly portrayed
throughout the plays.
Is their setting a safe haven or a prison? Looked at from different angles, we all would have different
views. With Graham, his home and mainly his bedroom is a sanctuary for him, some where he can
escape prejudice and critics, but on reflection what they really are is a hiding place , a place for
Graham to hide away and wallow in self pity. But for Irene she feels her home is a prison. She has no
freedom or liberty, no way to express herself. The only way she achieves this is by writing letters
which may anger or offend other members in the community. But as she enters an actual prison she
feels more freedom than when she was actually a free woman, that may seem strange to you and I, but
for some people, this can be reality and a break from a life they do not enjoy. When dealing with
Doris, it is or can be a confusing situation, from different viewpoints it

For the next couple of weeks, I started to change my level of focus. I played with old men who were

The Zodiac Signs and Human Behavior Essay
The Zodiac Signs and Human Behavior My belief is that the nature of our behavior is based on
astronomy; hence the reason that people who share the same zodiac sign have very similar
characteristics, and sometimes a combination of people with certain zodiac signs cannot get along or
are very compatible. Sometimes I can tell from a person s sign because of their behavior, and likes and
dislikes. Learning more about astrology and the zodiac signs helps us to understand people and their
actions. Many argue that it is coincidence, but the odds are too high to be that. It was not up until 200

All three Signs placed in the element of water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces) are rather difficult to
describe or measure out their true essence. Most Geminians, the sign of the twins which are ruled by
Mercury, have identical characteristics to their sign. On the downside, they have a tendency to
criticize, complain, be ungrateful, and be deceitful. Their good qualities include: being adaptable,
congenial, expressive, and clever. Learning to make a firm decision and sticking to it is one of their
most difficult tasks. Geminians are sometimes said to have split personalities; meaning that the first
impression you get from them is usually followed by one in contrast. Hence the symbol; the twins is
used to describe the two sides of their personality. Signs in a complementary element are considered to

How Academic Pressures Can Be Detrimental For...
As Pre service teachers, we agreed that our inquiry should emphasise both formal and informal
learning, and how academic pressures can be detrimental for socioemotional wellbeing. Our current
philosophical question was not our original question (APPENDIX A), as we realised that our original
question was excessively complex and broad. By utilising and reworking various elements of our
original question, we formed our current philosophical question: Does our current educational system
value academic skills and dispositions at the expense of socioemotional wellbeing? We discussed what
we as individuals believe the Purpose of Education encompasses. There was a general consensus that
education needs to include elements of academia, however, some members saw the value of an
informal education with a basis of social interaction. In depth dialogue and Socratic questioning, lead
us to the notions of informal and formal education, where everyone drew upon their prior experiences.
Later, we built upon our understanding, concluding that an efficacious education needs to be both
formally and informally situated. We decided to focus on the Humanist and Constructivist Theorists:
Confucius, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, Henry Giroux and Maria Montessori (Lewis, 2012). Our
question is philosophical, because it can be supported by empirical evidence, it is broad, it is subject to
differing opinions, and it promotes Socratic questioning and further discussion. This philosophical
question is

The Problems of Balancing School, Job, and Family
The Problems of Balancing School, Job, and Family
In today s century it is essential to have an education to enhance your job and provide a comfortable
future for your family. After having children we realize that education is significant in order to
succeed. While working takes a lot of time away from family, adding school to your schedule makes it
difficult to spend quality time with your children. The problem most people face with balancing
school, work, and family is being an excellent student, an outstanding employee, and a caring parent
all in the same day.
These chronic and systematic harms place a heavy burden financially, logistically, and
psychologically. With these three components you will first start managing your time by making a list
of your daily schedule followed by responsibility for your assignments and matters. Any decision to
leave all of your assignments for another time closer to the deadline will only help to accumulate work
that you will end up not having enough time to do. Time is a very important resource in life, so you
have to manage very wisely.
When living in these conditions it is important that you have your family support in order to continue
your journey and enhance psychological ability to accomplish your goals. When it comes to balance
work and school, there are several academic systems around the world that permit people that are not
able to attend campus to obtain their degree via internet. In addition, financially the

Persuasive Essay On Hospice Care
Many terminally ill patients give up hope when treatments are no longer available to help them and
hospice care is given to them as an option. However, hospice care has proven itself to provide the best
quality care for the last six months of the dying. The purpose of hospice is to provide the best care for
terminally ill patients at the end stage of their lives. Hospice offer services to support too many
aspects a patient s life such as medical, legal, spiritual care. Hospice includes art therapists, music
therapists, and certified chaplains on the palliative team.
The first hospice care was established in 1974. A hospice must make physician, nursing, drugs, and
medical supply services available 24/7. It must have social workers and counseling services available
to the patient and the family. Hospice also provides therapy and homemaker services when needed in
order to be qualified under Medicare certification. Hospice is a combination of special services for
terminal ill patients. Beside the medical service, hospice care also supports patients and family
psychologically and spiritually to put their emotional suffering at ease. The psychological suffering
can weight more than physical suffering. Many terminal ill patients cannot accept the bad news and
living under emotional distress. Certified chaplains can work with people from different religions,
they focus on the world view of the patient and family. Using patient personal goal as the

Seven Steps to Solving the Housing Crisis
The crisis that America has found herself in, to be completely blunt and honest, all revolves around
stupidity and bad choices. American citizens that had absolutely no business even thinking of buying a
house flooded the market and were encouraged by greedy bankers that were out to make a profit,
without thinking of the consequences or morals involved. Now the government has over stepped their
boundaries and are spending this country into such deep debt, which makes one think that that light at
the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train with no hope of slowing down, let alone stopping. The
solution to this economic crisis is outlined in seven easy baby steps: 1. America needs to create a small
emergency fund (at least a million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Houses would be paid for, jobs would open up, the stock market would probably not shift as much as
it does, welfare programs would become obsolete, over 70% of Americans would stop living pay

which would make us all winners, and broke people would stop buying houses that they can t afford.
If everyone bought houses that they could afford then there would be no more foreclosures; especially
if everyone had an emergency fund to give them an alternative if something happened. If businesses
weren t built on debt, especially sole proprietorships, then businesses wouldn t have to lay a bunch of
people off or cut down productivity. America needs to save to help take care of her people and
Americans need to take care of themselves so that we all win in the end.
Lastly, America needs to build a bunch of wealth and give a bunch of it away. This concept is for the
government and her people because when one gives and it becomes a habit, that person is forever
changed. It reminds them that it s not all about them. It s not about getting a bunch of stuff that they
can t afford to impress people that they don t even like. It s about taking care of your neighbor; it s
about being a selfless person and nation in a selfless world. America needs to invest in herself again,

Abortion And The Second Presidential Debate Essay
I have chosen to write about abortion and its role in the third presidential debate of 2016. To begin, we
need to understand abortion and how it is received in the United States before we try to understand
how the current candidates addressed abortion. Abortion has been a hot button topic in the United
States since Roe vs. Wade in 1973 when criminalizing abortion was considered unconstitutional under
the Due Process clause of the 14th amendment. This trial created a nationwide debate on not only the
legalization of abortion but also the restrictions and regulations. To best understand the topic, it is best
we look at both sides of the issue. Pro Life or anti abortion activists often argue that the fetus is a
human immediately after fertilization, resulting in murder or killing innocent human beings. Pro
Choice or Pro abortion activists often argue that regardless of the status of the fetus, women should
have the right to choose what to do with their bodies. According to the National Abortion Federation
on prochoice.org, abortion was common and openly used around the time of the creation of the
constitution. In the mid 1800 s abortion became illegal state by state, the reasoning behind
criminalization varied by state but it was believed there was a fear the population would be primarily
children of immigrants rather that Anglo Saxon women if abortion remained legal. The third debate
primarily focused on later term abortions. Typically abortions are considered late term

Democracies with a proportional representation electoral system plus a Parliamentary system (like that

Presidential system (like that of America) in giving a voice to the many interests that characterize our
increasingly diverse national populations.
Introduction
This paper discusses the crucial issue of electoral systems and their peculiar utility to the effective
representation in the national legislature (and even the executive) of the diverse interests within the
state. This discussion is in no way novel as it has been one of the most age old and fundamental
questions in the study of politics. Controversially, it can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Aristotle criticized Plato s theory and doubted that it was viable for one man to know of the interests
of all and also to be entrusted with so much power but would not abuse it. This conversation that
began thousands of years ago has recorded succinct inputs from many other thinkers and scholars. In
relatively recent history, the formation of government in America in the late 1700s sparked a quite
intense conversation along the same lines. For example, Alexander Hamilton wrote a treatise on the
form of government that he believed was the best for a democratic people. Hamilton backed a
presidential form of government that had powers vested in one man and not a group of few powerful
men as is the case in a parliamentary system.
Hamilton argued that the qualities of decision, secrecy, activity and dispatch are critical to having a
good government and asserted that these qualities are more likely to be found in one man than in a
greater number. Hamilton raised other interesting points in defence of presidentialism. For instance he
said that the differences in opinion that characterize a parliamentary system was dangerous and its
absence from the presidential system was positive. Again, Hamilton discussed how the parliamentary
system obfuscates faults and destroys responsibility. In other words, if many people are in charge of
executive power, responsibility is diffused and as such, it is difficult to hold anyone accountable.

War Communism And The Russian Civil War
After the Tsar regime was overthrown in 1917, Russia experienced further discontent as its people
carried out revolution and civil war (Modern World History: Russia 1905 41). From these occurrences,
Russia then became the first communist state in the world. The Bolsheviks had become the ruling
party after taking over the Provisional Government in the revolution of November 1917. Vladimir
Lenin had been the leader of this party. There was a bitter civil war between the Communists who
were the Reds and the opposition being the Whites. As a final point the Bolsheviks defeated their
enemies in the Russian Civil War that lasted for 3 years and ended in 1920.

The Russians had given them peace terms that they found them difficult to comply to and too severe.
War Communism had been implemented by Lenin in 1918 because of the needs of the Civil War. The
Russian economy was now aimed at providing the supplies it needed for the army (Modern World
History: War Communism and Red Terror). The Bolsheviks party decided to move away from state
capitalism because they felt the need to intensify authority, through communism (Reaction and
Revolution: Russia 1894 1924 Third Edition: War Communism). Lenin introduced harsh restrictive
policies to create the new communist rule. All aspects of life in Russia were controlled by the
Bolsheviks as they implemented severe terms upon its people. Social, political and economic areas of
life had to become subordinate to the aim of winning the Civil War (Reaction and Revolution: Russia
1894 1924 Third Edition: War Communism).
The aim of War Communism was to bring industry and agriculture under central control. Thus the
policy of centralization was put into play. This concentrated mainly on the political and economic
center of Russia. In addition this created a great increase of Bolshevik influence. There was
development within the factories through Bolsheviks influence. Lenin then put a Decree on
Nationalism. In less than two years Russia s enterprises were all under the central government control

take the lettuce off and add queso, which of course I did because for this experience I was going to go
all out. Once I poured the jalapeno ranch on top of my taco, the flour tortilla is too small to full wrap
up it s contents. As soon as I picked up my taco, the queso, pico de gallo, ranch sauce, and green
chiles fell out of the bottom. Alas, I would not let this go to waste so I scooped all of it up and tried
again, but using a fork instead. I was sort of bummed knowing I couldn t properly eat this taco, but I

Neutralizing Antacid
Which antacid brand is most effective at neutralizing the excess stomach acid produced during
heartburn? My hypothesis was that if Rite Aid s antacid was added to heartburn acid, then it will turn
neutral with less medicine. This was hypothesized because I think that the ingredients were best for
neutralizing acid. The hypothesis that was reached was incorrect. The CVS generic brand was able to
neutralize stomach acid using the lowest average amount of antacid. Over three trials, it is clear that
the CVS antacid is best at neutralizing excess stomach acid with the lowest amount of antacid. The
average amount of CVS antacid needed to neutralize the acid was only 4 drops. This means that the
consumer would need less antacids to neutralize the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that the amounts of acid and antacids may not have been equal for each trial. The size of
the drops of acid and antacid could have been different. There are many ways that every experiment
could be improved. One way would be to have two name brand antacids and two generic antacids.
This would ve helped us to figure out whether or not generic brands were better than name brands.
Another way to improve the experiment would be to use larger amounts of the hydrochloric acid for
each trial. Although it would be more expensive, the experiment would be more realistic to what
people go through when they get heartburn. Also, using smaller amounts makes it harder to define
whether or not the data is accurate. Since the units are smaller, it is a bigger difference when the data
is inconsistent. The information gathered from this lab can easily be applied to the real world. Looking
at the data, Rite Aid s antacid was only effective when you used the same amount of acid as antacid.
CVS and Gaviscon s antacid only needed half of the amount of acid to neutralize. Rite Aid s antacid
wouldn t be useful for consumers with lots of stomach acid/

The Noise Of A Sound Floor Insulation That Reduces Noise...
1. INTRODUCTION
Many places are becoming urbanized; so to save space many people live together in one building like
apartments or a duplex house. There can be lots of noises generated by activities such as walking from
adjacent buildings. The noise impact on people s quality of life goes beyond annoyance. It may affect
psychological aspect of health as well.
There are several ways to eliminate this problem; one is to reduce sound by increasing the distance
between the source and the receiver and the second is using noise barriers to reflect or absorb the
sound. To effectively reduce internal noise transferred from the adjacent buildings and maintain the
comfort of the resident, it is important to have adequate sound floor insulation. Sound insulation in a
building reduces the sound pressure with respect to sound sources and receivers.
In this report, I will discuss the installation of a sound floor insulation that reduces noise from outside.
Additionally, I examine effects and causes of the noise.
Most of information I used in this report was collected from the recent technical databases provided
by Kansas State University Libraries. I have also gathered relevant information in academic journals.
This paper is organized into three main sections. First, Section 2 provides brief problem of the noise.
Second, Section 3 discusses the way to reduce the noise from neighboring units by installing adequate
sound insulation. Third, Section 4 summarizes my research findings in a

Metaphors In American Childhood
We could have ran through every backyard in North America until we got to Panama (Dillard 48).
This is just one of Dillard s many metaphors throughout the novel that portrays a deep awareness of
space and time. Through metaphors Dillard captures a true depth in the novel that regular sentences
can not obtain. Normal sentences might pull a reader in, however metaphors can truly captivate the
reader to imagine all new possibilities. Dillard shows through metaphors of sight, time, and
understanding that as you grow older your awareness of time and space deepens in understanding.
Sight is one of the few senses that a young child is able to use freely. A young child can have an
outlook that looks completely different than what an adult has. In An American Childhood, Dillard
explores her Pittsburgh and sees many things including, which she describes as, a black phalanx (34).
This metaphor is explicit because a phalanx is meant for a mass of people, not a few nuns that are
walking down the street. Phalanx describes these nuns well because it is a word Dillard attributes to
something she sees as unknown and mystifying. The mystifying nuns represent one of the first real
things that Dillard sees in Pittsburgh that frightens her. Dillard uses this metaphor as a sign of fear
when amongst the nuns, but the reader can see through her word choice that the awareness she has of
the world is pretty open. Dillard is able to see nuns in her travels and think deeply about her thoughts.

Essay on Andrew Jackson and the Bank War
The validity of President Andrew Jackson s response to the Bank War issue has been contradicted by
many, but his reasoning was supported by fact and inevitably beneficial to the country. Jackson s
primary involvement with the Second Bank of the United States arose during the suggested
governmental re chartering of the institution. It was during this period that the necessity and value of
the Bank s services were questioned. The United States government in 1816 chartered the Second
Bank of the United States. It had a 20 year charter, which was to expire in 1836. Despite this, the Bank
was privately owned and during the age of Jackson, the president was Nicholas Biddle. The Bank was
large in comparison to other banks, being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, he also found it unconstitutional that the government was chartering such an institution,
thus creating a bank, this right is also not given to the government in the constitution. The Jacksonians
were strict constructionists, believing in a strict interpretation of the constitution, which is why he and
his ideological followers had such anguish towards the bank on constitutional terms. In addition, the
government s acceptance of bank notes for taxes also did not coincide with the Jackson s anti paper
money views.
Evidence of Jackson s anti Bank views can be found in his veto message, which vetoed the re charter
of the Second Bank.
It (the Second Bank) enjoys an exclusive privilege of banking under the authority of the General
Government, a monopoly of its favor and support, and, as a necessary consequence, almost a
monopoly of the foreign and domestic exchange (Hofstadte 291).
In his veto message, he also makes it a point to discuss how a limited portion of the nation s society is
benefiting from the Bank.
Every monopoly and all exclusive privileges are granted at the expense of the public, which ought to
receive a fair equivalent If our Government must sell monopolies, it would seem to be its duty to
take nothing less than their full value, and if gratuities must be made once in fifteen or twenty years let

Alice In The Film All The Way From Memphis
Nevertheless, Alice s character is undoubtedly about finding her own voice and independence in a
man s world and how she evolves in the film. The initial characterization of Alice before her
transformation, is of a woman who s insecure and an unconfident housewife to the bread winner of the
house and the personal hurdles she overcomes during the process. In the starting scene of the film, we
are introduced to Alice Hyatt, who is a 35 year old as the titles suggests us, living in Socorro, New
Mexico. In the background, we hear the song All the Way from Memphis by the band Mott the
Hoople. Next, the camera zooms in on an individual house and the inside of a room is shown, where
Alice is using a sewing machine. Alice s son Tommy is shown ... Show more content on

The male voice is of his father. When he enters the living room, the impact of his presence is not
friendly or playful. He is rather annoyed and full of anger. In the next scene, we see the 3 family
members sitting around the dining table. This is the scene of image 1 in appendix 2, where her
husband criticizes her brutally about his coffee not tasting right. If we look closely, Alice s body
language is up tight connoting the fear and insecurity. Alice is visibly upset about her husband s
behavior and like an obedient housewife, listens to his rant. Likewise, in scene 2 in appendix 2, we see
Alice waiting on the table, and looking at a different direction with upmost fear and confusion in her
eyes. Again, her body is up tight. Scene 2 (1:00:24 1:01:15) is about where a man she is waiting the
table of, is trying to flirt with her whilst she is taking his order. As much as Alice tries to stay
professional, the man observes and enjoys her vulnerability and continues with his flirting remarks.
Alice becomes quite uncomfortable and doesn t know how to react. This scene shows her struggle in
the world of men perfectly, who put her down and diminish her

company itself which is useful to this research and the data was uploaded on the website, so a lot of
useful information should be found on it.
The second one is the research done by several mobile app research teams such as Xyologic that do
research on smartphone application download rate. The data collected from these two sources is
valuable to the research because it is used to access the acceptance of Candy Crush as the numbers
show the popularity of the product.
2. Primary Research For doing primary research, only survey will be used. However, the
questionnaires will be distributed through two channels, online questionnaire and printed
questionnaire. The target respondents will be the people owning a smartphone or tablets who in
different age group in both genders. Facebook is an important platform for us to distribute the
questionnaire, setting up event, inviting people to do the survey is very effective and efficient.
However, it is hard to reach the people who do not have a Facebook account or we do not know their
accounts. Therefore, the printed version is necessarily needed. We can distribute the questionnaire to
our schoolmates, family, teachers and so on as long as they are within our target requirements.
The reason why choosing survey for collecting the primary data is it is the most effective way of
getting feedback from the users. To fulfill

Southwest Airlines Discrimination Case Essay
Southwest Airlines Discrimination Case
Recently, a Southwest Airlines discrimination issue surfaced resulting from comments expressed by a
Southwest pilot during a private conversation. The two minute conversation transpired on March 25,
2011 and was inadvertently broadcast over a Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control
frequency in the Houston, Texas area during a flight from Austin, Texas to San Diego, California.
According to the accusations, the comments were perceived as demeaning and derogatory with regard
to the Southwest Airlines flight attendant employee group.

from both sides of the argument. The legal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The airline permitted the pilot to return to work after completing diversity training. The airline
believes the incident was an isolated case and considered the conversation as private .
The Southwest Airlines flight Attendants Union have considered filing a federal workplace
discrimination complaint with the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission based upon
the statements made by the pilot. Despite and official apology offered by Southwest Airlines
management, the union believes the airlines response and apology falls short of expectations. The
union is calling on Southwest Airlines to address this problem throughout our company, not as an
isolated incident, but as a mandate that our workplace will be free from discrimination of all forms as
a condition of continued employment (Bingham). Despite the position of the union, Southwest
Airlines management believes the diversity training and the public apology was an appropriate
response to the incident.
Two possible actions must be considered to determine whether this incident involves any statutory
activity. First, did the pilot violate any statutory laws by transmitting obscene, indecent, or profane
language over ATC frequencies, and second, did the pilot provide a solid basis for a workplace
discrimination complaint as expressed by the flight attendant union; both possibilities appear plausible
based on the information

The Theme Of Environmentalism In Frank Herbert s Dune
In undoubtedly one of the grandest science fiction epics of all time, Frank Herbert s Dune focuses on a
stunning blend of politics, environmentalism, adventure, and mysticism. Recipient of the Nebula
Award and Hugo Award, Dune explores the effects of a changing global climate most prominently.
The role of science fiction isn t so much to predict the future, rather than to astound the audience with
its possible leading avenues. Dune has a sparse ecosystem and Herbert explores for instance how the
limitation of water would transform the planetary ecology and possible sustenance for human life.
Thus Dune, stands as an early example that explores environmentalism and ecology, effectively
communicating these novel ideas in the 1960 s to a new and young audience and generation. Herbert
focuses on the untapped human potential of transcending the primary state of living conditions,
however with a plethora of limitations and consequences. Particularly interesting, the novel as a whole
serves as an allegory for the dangers of environmental shortages and damages. Although some may
presume the novel Dune as confusing archaic misfit for a science fiction novel, these romantic critics
are often too dogmatic in their provincial ideologies. Several warnings are presented throughout the
course of the novel on ancient dangers such as the greed of mercantile corporations, the intertwined
complications of religion and politics, conflicts of feudalism, and most prominently ecological
fragility.

Headline Rule
Rob Elliot, senior VP of Public Affairs, came to our class and had a handful of information to talk
about. His main point was the idea of ethics and ethical behavior in the work field. Prior to sitting in
on his lecture, the class was to have read an article which basically gave us the gist of what this man s
views were when it came to ethics. In the article, he stated that it s incredibly difficult for people to do
their job while being ethical at the same time, during his presentation he was able to include examples
of unethical behavior and how it made him feel personally.
Grow up! He began his lecture by defining the word ethics , and not just by using the definition in the
dictionary. He was able to define what the word meant to him by backing it up with personal
experiences. He explained how there was instances where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

YOU. COULD. GET. FIRED
Headline Rule I really enjoyed when Mr. Elliot explained the term Headline Rule, which basically
states to not do anything ridiculously stupid that will embarrass the company that you work for. I truly
think it s comical that grown men and women are having to be reminded of this rule. Why on earth
would someone risk their entire career by acting like a child? It baffles me that these people don t have
a good head on their shoulders.
What I got out of Rob Elliot s Presentation Aside from me laughing at the stupidity of the people that
he has had to work with, Rob Elliot made some valid points and a few things he said stuck with me.
Those included: I work to live, I don t live to work If you blur your lines, you are never going to get it

  • 2. The Battle Of Midway Saw The Sinking Of The Japanese Carriers The battle of Midway saw the sinking of the Japanese carriers, Akagi; Soryu; Hiryu and Kaga as well as the cruiser Mikuma. The American navy lost one carrier which was the USS Yorktown. The Battle resulted in the deaths of 2500 Japanese navy men and 307 deaths to the American navy. The Japanese had lost invaluable sailors in the battle as the crew on board the aircraft carriers were highly trained and had many years of experience working on the complex carriers.(Source E) So when the Japanese started to build new aircraft carriers they found that it was difficult to appoint crew has many had not enough experience, this heavily delayed and cost the Japanese as by this stage the American army had begun their campaign in taking back the islands the Japanese had taken over months before. Since 1930 the Japanese conquests with the Chinese had cause ever increasing friction with the US. From the early 1940s America had banned exports of strategic materials such as scrap iron and metal to the Japanese Empire, then in 1941 they lead and oil embargo and froze all of the Japanese assets. This had huge effects on the Japanese Empire as they imported 90% of their oil. Because of this the Japanese leadership made the decision to invade and take over neighbouring territories and take their resources which Japan lacked. But before this could be done they faced a great and powerful obstacle, the American naval fleet at Hawaii s Pearl Harbour. And thus this lead to Japan s attack on Pearl ... • 3. The Sex Of Sex Work The world of sex work has been around for countless years. Hollywood portrays it as a normal way of life in all the cowboy movies and put a glamorous feel around it. However, Hollywood is about selling dreams and fantasy, though the reality is quite different. The reality is that sex work is dangerous. The act in and of itself is not usually dangerous, nevertheless, the situations in which it needs to be conducted are. Today s sex work incorporates more than just prostitution; the adult film industry, Dom/Sub work, phone sex operators, together with exotic dancing are all considered sex work. The focus of this essay has been narrowed down to just the prostitution aspect of sex work and the decriminalization for the means of creating a safer environment for the worker. Decriminalization of this particular type of sex work would render the job safer for the workers given that they would have the ability to screen clients, an established place of employment, safety in numbers, a positive relationship with law enforcement, and enhanced means to protect themselves from health risks. Screening of the clients is a key aspect of keeping the sex workers safe. Screening the clients is a lot about reading people, their clothes, their attitude, how they hold themselves and trusting the experience of the worker s instinct. The screening process will not work every single time, however, the ability to make the decision to go with a client or not can save the workers life. Escorts and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Descartes Mind Over Matter 1018 Professor Crowell Phil 21 22 April 2016 Mind over Matter In his meditations Descartes supposed there was two fundamentally different sorts of substances in the universe, physical stuff, which bodies and chairs etc. are made up of; which is extended in space, hence he called it res extensa, but there s also mind stuff which isn t in space at all thinking stuff or, res cogitans. Bodies are made of res extensa and minds are made of res cogitans and the two are separate. To understand why he thought this we must go back to his mission statement, which was to doubt everything he could in order to find something indubitable which he thought would be certain knowledge. Descartes found that he could doubt everything except that he was thinking since doubt was a kind of thinking, and since thinking requires a thinker he knew that he must exist hence the famous I think therefore I am syllogism known as the cogito. Descartes goes on to say that he can doubt the existence of his body and all other physical things but he cannot doubt his mind exists because of the cogito. Descartes flaw is his liberal use of Leibniz s law, the identity of indiscernibles. The ontological principle states that there cannot be separate objects or entities that have all of their properties in common. That is to say, if you have two things and they have all the same properties, including their position in space, you don t really have two things because they are identical; by the same token if two ... • 6. Edward T. Hall s Four Spatial Zones Anthropologist Edward T. Hall has defined four spatial zones that we use depending upon the content that we are communicating and the level of self disclosure. Hall s four spatial zones begin with what he calls intimate space, skin contact to 18 inches away, this is the space that we use for intimate conversations, secrets, and deeper levels of self disclosure. The second of Hall s spatial zones is personal space, 18 inches to 4 feet away, this spatial zone is used to communicate personal information, but is less intimate than that of intimate space. The third of Hall s spatial zones is social space, 4 to 12 feet away, in this spatial zone occurs more formal and impersonal communication. The fourth of Hall s spatial zones is public space, 12 ... • 7. The Metaphysical And Victorian Concept Of Love Essay The Metaphysical and Victorian concept of love is as diverse as it can be particularly comparing the intense love shown in Porphyria s Lover by Robert Browning with the playful love in nature in To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell. Love has multiple definitions and it has so far remained among the most complex subject that require a single particular definition to define its meaning. Plato once said At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet and that s why may be we have so many diverse poetry on the subject of love with so many different definitions of love that are available. Shakespeare wrote in his Sonnet 116 defining love, Love is not love which alters when alteration finds, or bends with the remover to remove , talking about the passion and loyalty, a belief unassailable, That look on tempests and is never shaken . Such intensity that Shakespeare shows and the partial playful nature that Plato hints has the possibilities for influencing a writer to produce unique individual thoughts, with different approach and equally persuading in nature. The term metaphysical poets was coined by the critic Samuel Johnson to describe a loose group of 17th century English poets whose work was characterized by the inventive use of conceits, and by a greater emphasis on the spoken rather than lyrical quality of their verse. These poets were not formally affiliated and few were highly regarded until 20th century attention established their importance. Given the lack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

WINDS OF CHANGE THE INESCAPABLE ROUTE The Necessity 6. The Indian trade, industry and economy had been stagnating in the years preceding 1991 due to Govt regulating the industry, and state protection policies of licensing, high tariffs and administered prices. These protectionist policies made our industries complacent and curtailed the competitive spirit of the firms, making them inefficient in the intensely competitive global market. The state of Indian economy was in such doldrums that there was a necessity for the Indian Govt to implement drastic fiscal policies and a controlled deregulation. 7. The Economic Turnaround of 1991. The state of the Indian economy made the govt realise that they could no more remain isolated from the world economy, and therefore, brought in economic liberalisation and free economy. Deregulation, free flow of goods within and outside the country and encouragement of foreign technology became the order of the day. The new policies brought in a fierce competition, which epitomised the age old dictum of survival of the fittest . Many firms were forced to close shop because of obsolescence of their product or technology and lack of skills to

Glick, an American Israeli journalist and author, examines Israeli administration of the contested territories known as Judea and Samaria also know as the West Bank since the 1967 Arab Israeli war. The first premise essentially accuses the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) to have grossly inflated the number of Arabs living in Judea and Samaria. The strategic inflation of population is comparable to the PA Ministry of Health that had strategically inflated causality rates in the past (see Operation Protective Shield in 2002). The objective her would be to gain political capital, as well as to demonstrate to Israeli policy makers that the annexation of Judea and Samaria would destroy the sensitive Jewish majority of the State of Israel. According to the research conducted by the American Israeli group, the PCBS had inflated the Arab population of Judea and Samaria to 2.42 million. In contrast, the AIDRG concluded that only 1.41 million Arabs lived in Judea and Samaria. Here, Glick argues that the fact that 1.01 million fewer Arabs lived in Judea and Samaria means that Israeli annexation would not mean the end of the demographic integrity of the Jewish State. Similarities Between Rip Van Winkle And Young Goodman Brown Nature: An Escape from Reality Throughout the story of Rip Van Winkle written by Washington Irving and the tale of Young Goodman Brown authored by Nathaniel Hawthorne, nature acts as a refuge for both of the main characters in the stories. In the story of Rip Van Winkle, Rip ventures into the woods to escape his nagging wife at home, using the setting of nature as a refuge from his life at home to escape his miserable home life. Rip s wife nags so much that he uses the Kaatskill mountains as a refuge from her henpecking ways, ...his wife kept continually dinning in his ears about his idleness, his carelessness, and the ruin he was bringing on his family. Morning, noon, and night, her tongue was incessantly going. (956). In contrast, in the story of Young Goodman Brown, Goodman Brown leaves his wife, Faith, for three months to complete a suspicious errand in the woods. In contrast to Rip, Goodman Brown uses nature as a refuge from his faith in God, not his nagging wife at home, in fact he loves his wife dearly. Despite the fact that nature is an apparent topic throughout both stories, it is my claim that Washington Irving does a better job of presenting the use of the theme of nature being a refuge due to his use of symbolism, setting, and characters to illustrate the theme that nature acts as a a refuge. Established in 1971 as a local coffee bean roaster and retailer, Starbucks has expanded rapidly. By successfully adopting Italian coffee culture into a variety of beverages such as brewed coffee, espresso, teas, Frappuccinos and related products such as music CDs, pastries or ice creams, the Seattle based company has reported USD 7.9 billion in revenue with 22 percent annual growth (Starbucks, 2006) . In contrast, beverage items which are rarely consumed by Chinese people such as bottled water, alcohol like brandy and vodka, vegetable juice and coffee are highly elastic to income (ibid). Therefore, the combination of Starbucks price factors, strong tea culture and high elastic in demand for coffee may turn many Chinese customers to local coffee shops or lower price coffee providers such as McDonalds and KFC. To cope with strong tea culture and high elasticity of demand, Starbucks has redefined its target market. Since China is a country where tea culture usually associates closely with old people, promotion activities directed to young people who are more open to change and learn from Western culture will be most likely to succeed. Therefore, the company bets its entire marketing effort on targeting the new Chinese generation, the so called petty bourgeoisie , whose ages range from 18 to 44 with higher spending power and being attracted easily by high status brands (Adamy, 2006). In China, due to its high population, the Chinese government has enacted the one child policy which prohibits having more than one child. • 25. The Education Of Women By Daniel Defoe Education plays a great role in distinguishing women from women or men from men. In the past, it was uncommon for a woman to be educated. With this in mind, if a lady was educated, she was held high in the eyes of men. A woman s main role during this time was to befriend her husband and to host her husband s dinner parties. Due to this, men loved educated women because those who are educated could hold witty conversations. If a male is married to a female who is educated, he is held at a great standard because his dinner parties tend to be successful. In other words, having an educated wife during this time period is equivalent to having a trophy wife. Daniel Defoe emphasizes why women should be educated in his essay, The Education of Women. Because Defoe bases his argument off of many presuppositions that do not hold true today, Defoe unconvincingly posits that women should only be educated in order to be a trophy wife to their husbands. Defoe begins his argument by stating that the world is a civilized and Christian country (111). With regards to the Christian country, there is a story of Adam and Eve within the Christian religion. In the story, Eve was created to be a companion for Adam. By Defoe presupposing that the world is Christian, his underlying message is that women are created only to be companions to men. This presupposition does not hold true today. First off, many people do not get married in the present day world. In fact, a 2010 census declared that 20 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As Pre service teachers, we agreed that our inquiry should emphasise both formal and informal learning, and how academic pressures can be detrimental for socioemotional wellbeing. Our current philosophical question was not our original question (APPENDIX A), as we realised that our original question was excessively complex and broad. By utilising and reworking various elements of our original question, we formed our current philosophical question: Does our current educational system value academic skills and dispositions at the expense of socioemotional wellbeing? We discussed what we as individuals believe the Purpose of Education encompasses. There was a general consensus that education needs to include elements of academia, however, some members saw the value of an informal education with a basis of social interaction. In depth dialogue and Socratic questioning, lead us to the notions of informal and formal education, where everyone drew upon their prior experiences. Later, we built upon our understanding, concluding that an efficacious education needs to be both formally and informally situated. We decided to focus on the Humanist and Constructivist Theorists: Confucius, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, Henry Giroux and Maria Montessori (Lewis, 2012). Our question is philosophical, because it can be supported by empirical evidence, it is broad, it is subject to differing opinions, and it promotes Socratic questioning and further discussion. Abortion has been a hot button topic in the United States since Roe vs. Wade in 1973 when criminalizing abortion was considered unconstitutional under the Due Process clause of the 14th amendment. This trial created a nationwide debate on not only the legalization of abortion but also the restrictions and regulations. To best understand the topic, it is best we look at both sides of the issue. Pro Life or anti abortion activists often argue that the fetus is a human immediately after fertilization, resulting in murder or killing innocent human beings. Pro Choice or Pro abortion activists often argue that regardless of the status of the fetus, women should have the right to choose what to do with their bodies. According to the National Abortion Federation on prochoice.org, abortion was common and openly used around the time of the creation of the constitution. In the mid 1800 s abortion became illegal state by state, the reasoning behind criminalization varied by state but it was believed there was a fear the population would be primarily children of immigrants rather that Anglo Saxon women if abortion remained legal. The third debate primarily focused on later term abortions. Typically abortions are considered late term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thesis statement: Democracies with a proportional representation electoral system plus a Parliamentary system (like that of Germany) encourage smaller parties more than the single member plurality electoral system and Presidential system (like that of America) in giving a voice to the many interests that characterize our increasingly diverse national populations. Introduction This paper discusses the crucial issue of electoral systems and their peculiar utility to the effective representation in the national legislature (and even the executive) of the diverse interests within the state. This discussion is in no way novel as it has been one of the most age old and fundamental questions in the study of politics. Controversially, it can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aristotle criticized Plato s theory and doubted that it was viable for one man to know of the interests of all and also to be entrusted with so much power but would not abuse it. This conversation that began thousands of years ago has recorded succinct inputs from many other thinkers and scholars. In relatively recent history, the formation of government in America in the late 1700s sparked a quite intense conversation along the same lines. For example, Alexander Hamilton wrote a treatise on the form of government that he believed was the best for a democratic people. Hamilton backed a presidential form of government that had powers vested in one man and not a group of few powerful men as is the case in a parliamentary system. Hamilton argued that the qualities of decision, secrecy, activity and dispatch are critical to having a good government and asserted that these qualities are more likely to be found in one man than in a greater number. Hamilton raised other interesting points in defence of presidentialism. For instance he said that the differences in opinion that characterize a parliamentary system was dangerous and its absence from the presidential system was positive. Again, Hamilton discussed how the parliamentary system obfuscates faults and destroys responsibility. In other words, if many people are in charge of executive power, responsibility is diffused and as such, it is difficult to hold anyone accountable. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Bolsheviks had become the ruling party after taking over the Provisional Government in the revolution of November 1917. Vladimir Lenin had been the leader of this party. From people giving it such a positive review, I decided to give it a try. As someone who is a lover of tacos, including breakfast tacos, I knew I would be a tough critic over Torchy s. After I went to Torchy s twice, I decided to give it two thumbs up. I love Mexican food, and as a native of Texas I ve had plenty of it in my sixteen years of life. Just as a disclaimer, if you are not a fanatic of spicy foods, I would not suggest Torchy s to you. From my first trip, I tried the queso first which contains green chile, quacamole, and diablo hot sauce, but as a lover of fiery foods, I fairly enjoyed this. Their chips are made homemade style and the only negative thing I would say is their chips are made too thin for their queso. My hypothesis was that if Rite Aid s antacid was added to heartburn acid, then it will turn neutral with less medicine. This was hypothesized because I think that the ingredients were best for neutralizing acid. The hypothesis that was reached was incorrect. The CVS generic brand was able to neutralize stomach acid using the lowest average amount of antacid. This means that the amounts of acid and antacids may not have been equal for each trial. The size of the drops of acid and antacid could have been different. There are many ways that every experiment could be improved. One way would be to have two name brand antacids and two generic antacids. This would ve helped us to figure out whether or not generic brands were better than name brands. Another way to improve the experiment would be to use larger amounts of the hydrochloric acid for each trial. Although it would be more expensive, the experiment would be more realistic to what people go through when they get heartburn. Also, using smaller amounts makes it harder to define whether or not the data is accurate. Since the units are smaller, it is a bigger difference when the data is inconsistent. The information gathered from this lab can easily be applied to the real world. Looking at the data, Rite Aid s antacid was only effective when you used the same amount of acid as antacid. INTRODUCTION Many places are becoming urbanized; so to save space many people live together in one building like apartments or a duplex house. There can be lots of noises generated by activities such as walking from adjacent buildings. The noise impact on people s quality of life goes beyond annoyance. It may affect psychological aspect of health as well. There are several ways to eliminate this problem; one is to reduce sound by increasing the distance between the source and the receiver and the second is using noise barriers to reflect or absorb the sound. To effectively reduce internal noise transferred from the adjacent buildings and maintain the comfort of the resident, it is important to have adequate sound floor insulation. Sound insulation in a building reduces the sound pressure with respect to sound sources and receivers. In this report, I will discuss the installation of a sound floor insulation that reduces noise from outside. Additionally, I examine effects and causes of the noise. Most of information I used in this report was collected from the recent technical databases provided by Kansas State University Libraries. I have also gathered relevant information in academic journals. This paper is organized into three main sections. First, Section 2 provides brief problem of the noise. Second, Section 3 discusses the way to reduce the noise from neighboring units by installing adequate sound insulation. Third, Section 4 summarizes my research findings in a ... • 45. Metaphors In American Childhood We could have ran through every backyard in North America until we got to Panama (Dillard 48). This is just one of Dillard s many metaphors throughout the novel that portrays a deep awareness of space and time. Through metaphors Dillard captures a true depth in the novel that regular sentences can not obtain. Normal sentences might pull a reader in, however metaphors can truly captivate the reader to imagine all new possibilities. Dillard shows through metaphors of sight, time, and understanding that as you grow older your awareness of time and space deepens in understanding. Sight is one of the few senses that a young child is able to use freely. A young child can have an outlook that looks completely different than what an adult has. In An American Childhood, Dillard explores her Pittsburgh and sees many things including, which she describes as, a black phalanx (34). This metaphor is explicit because a phalanx is meant for a mass of people, not a few nuns that are walking down the street. Phalanx describes these nuns well because it is a word Dillard attributes to something she sees as unknown and mystifying. The mystifying nuns represent one of the first real things that Dillard sees in Pittsburgh that frightens her. Dillard uses this metaphor as a sign of fear when amongst the nuns, but the reader can see through her word choice that the awareness she has of the world is pretty open. Dillard is able to see nuns in her travels and think deeply about her thoughts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jackson s primary involvement with the Second Bank of the United States arose during the suggested governmental re chartering of the institution. It was during this period that the necessity and value of the Bank s services were questioned. The United States government in 1816 chartered the Second Bank of the United States. Secondly, he also found it unconstitutional that the government was chartering such an institution, thus creating a bank, this right is also not given to the government in the constitution. In addition, the government s acceptance of bank notes for taxes also did not coincide with the Jackson s anti paper money views. Evidence of Jackson s anti Bank views can be found in his veto message, which vetoed the re charter of the Second Bank. It (the Second Bank) enjoys an exclusive privilege of banking under the authority of the General Government, a monopoly of its favor and support, and, as a necessary consequence, almost a monopoly of the foreign and domestic exchange (Hofstadte 291). In his veto message, he also makes it a point to discuss how a limited portion of the nation s society is benefiting from the Bank. The Theme Of Environmentalism In Frank Herbert s Dune In undoubtedly one of the grandest science fiction epics of all time, Frank Herbert s Dune focuses on a stunning blend of politics, environmentalism, adventure, and mysticism. Recipient of the Nebula Award and Hugo Award, Dune explores the effects of a changing global climate most prominently. The role of science fiction isn t so much to predict the future, rather than to astound the audience with its possible leading avenues. Dune has a sparse ecosystem and Herbert explores for instance how the limitation of water would transform the planetary ecology and possible sustenance for human life. Thus Dune, stands as an early example that explores environmentalism and ecology, effectively communicating these novel ideas in the 1960 s to a new and young audience and generation. Herbert focuses on the untapped human potential of transcending the primary state of living conditions, however with a plethora of limitations and consequences. Particularly interesting, the novel as a whole serves as an allegory for the dangers of environmental shortages and damages. Although some may presume the novel Dune as confusing archaic misfit for a science fiction novel, these romantic critics are often too dogmatic in their provincial ideologies.
