Diabetes Mellitus As A Disability
The amount of patients being diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus has sky rocketed these past few years.
In 2010 the figures were 25.8 million and 8.3% and has increased in 2012 to 29.1 million Americans,
or 9.3%. (American Diabetes Association, 2014); it is seen nationwide, and has now even begun to
affect our youth. In South Texas Diabetes Mellitus seems to be the number one thriving disease
affecting its general population. Diabetes Mellitus is now one of the most widely known diseases that
has turned into an epidemic and in 2008 the ADAAmendments Act of 2008 acknowledged Diabetes
Mellitus as a disability, and rightly so since it affects many, from children to the elderly, causing
complications (such as amputations, failure of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two out of three people with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke (American Diabetes
Association, 2014).Society needs to further educate themselves in order to fully understand this
disease and how it can affect their daily lives, whether by short term complications like blurred vision,
to long term complications like kidney failure, and how they can prevent or delay diabetes and its
complications.
Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic illness that requires the individual to manage, support, and educate
themselves of their illness in order to prevent any further complications. It is disease that is caused by
the impairment of insulin secretion and also caused by insulin resistance and insulin deficiency.
Insulin is the hormone used to control and maintain homeostasis over the amount of glucose in our
blood stream. If not much insulin is secreted it can lead to hyperglycemia, which is an abnormal
increase of glucose in the body. Early symptoms of Diabetes Mellitus are related to hyperglycemia and
include, but not limited to, polyuria (excessive urination), polydipsia (excessive thirst), weight loss,
sometimes with polyphagia (excessive hunger), and blurred vision. This may also lead to pre diabetes,
which is when glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014).
There are two main types of diabetes, Type 1 and type 2. Type 1 is where the

My Favorite Time Of Year
I see the turning of a leaf dancing in an autumn sun, and brilliant shades of crimson glowing when a
day is done . This quote by Hazelmarie Mattie Elliott describes what I see in a day of fall. The colorful
leaves in the crisp cold air where the sun shines. My favorite time of year is Fall because of all the
Pumpkins, and celebrating Halloween and I get to celebrate thanksgiving.
The first reason why I like Fall so much is because of all the dazzling pumpkins. My favorite thing
about pumpkins is Going to the pumpkin patch and picking out the perfect pumpkin. For me the
perfect pumpkin would have a bold orange color, and it would be immense, with a perfect slender
look. Me and my family have been going to a pumpkin patch every year since I was about 2 years old.
During our time at the pumpkin patch my brothers and I always have a contest to see who can find the
biggest pumpkin in the field, nevertheless this time I won, the pumpkin I found weighed 15 pounds
and was really fat with a nice sheer matte orange color. When I saw this pumpkin, it was like a
glowing spot light had appeared right over the pumpkin. Something very unusual my brother Alex had
found in the pumpkin patch was a s medium sized pumpkin that was kind of shaped like a peanut, he
had most definitely won the award for most weird pumpkin. Once we all came home with our
pumpkins, we started to carve our glorious pumpkins because we are so excited to see how they would
turn out. In like manner the design s that I

Sherman Alexie Indian Education
Throughout history, Native Americans have been discriminated against, stolen from, and forced into
appropriation, particularly in the education system. In the short story Indian Education, Sherman
Alexie describes his schooling from childhood to adolescence. Alexie s usage of formatting and other
literary devices develops the themes of starvation in acceptance, starvation in understanding, and
starvation in friendship. From the start of the short story, Alexie begins portraying the lack of
acceptance and friendship in his childhood. Sherman Alexie structures the story to create a timeline
for the reader. Beginning with the subheading First Grade evokes imagery of a young boy. The
description of this time in Alexie s life shows

Speech For Benevolent Parents
My benevolent parents. First off, I would just like to say thank you. You guys are as unbelievable as a
chicken driving a motorcycle through a hoop on fire. You have given everyone a awe inspiring life and
have given us everything and anything we have ever asked for and desired. You have made my life as
easy as reciting my ABC s. Thank you for giving us the best childhood. Thank you for loving all of us
unconditionally, and loving me a bit more. Thank you also for giving me the proper tools to succeed in
life. Finally, thank you for supporting us throughout our lives and for the continued support in the
future. Now, since in a couple more years I will be heading off to the next big step in my life, college,
I know that both of you guys are going to miss me since I won t be home for long periods of time.
Mom will definitely miss me and call me but Dad will call me like once every week. He is a strong
individual, like father, like son. Since all of this would happen I was thinking that we should expand
our family. However, when I say expand our family I don t mean getting a baby, I mean we should
acquire a Canis lupus familiaris. In laymen s terms, we should procure a German Shepherd. Now, I
understand that you have disliked the topic and will sigh in disbelief that I m bringing it back up.
However, if we were to get a puppy, then I believe it would be good for us. I have brought together
many justifications of why obtaining a pup is helpful. A baby hound gives you company on those
lonely days and a dog s company would be satisfying. Dogs would also help you in making new
friends and getting to know the neighborhood and the people in the neighborhood. Also, getting a big
protective dog, such as a trained German Shepherd would keep you as safe as possible and would risk
its life for you. So you know that dogs are the best pets for you.
You will gain an extra companion. I understand that when I go to college, most of your children will
never be home. I will be at college, and the rest will be working. So when you miss me, because I
know you will, then our kind, and loving dog will be there for you. Getting a dog will also mean that
there will forever be a furry, friendly, playful friend at home. He will always be

The Terrestrial Planet Mars Essay
The terrestrial planet Mars is a topic of conversation many scientists have been invested in for the past
few centuries. There has been historical evidence found that astronomers had been drawing maps of
Mars since 1860s, with a very good attempt for its time being drawn by German/Italian astronomer
G.V Schiaparelli in 1877. One might begin to ponder why Mars has been such a large interest in the
astronomy field. The red planet is a huge topic of debate because scientists believe there is a
possibility of life, although this has not been vastly established it has yet to be concretely disproven.
Life consists of things that are able to take in energy from the environment and transform it for growth
and reproduction, stimulation fosters a reaction like motion, and anything that has life will grow and
develop.1 Finding life on Mars is more significant than one might initially imagine, Earth may
potentially see an end due to global warming, collision between the Milky way and the Andromeda
Galaxy, or many other causations, which is even more reason the human race may need to find a
second home. Mars is filled with new mysteries that we have yet to discover that may be the secret to
establishing Mars as our new beginning for the human race. Mars, also known as the red planet is four
planets away from the Sun measuring out a distance of 1.52 AU. The surface temperature of Mars
ranges from 87OC to 5OC. It also experiences twenty four hours of daylight, which is unlike Earth.

Hydrogen Powered Vs Electric Powered Vehicles
Hydrogen Powered Versus Electric Powered Vehicles The human race is in the midst of an energy
crisis. The gasoline used around the world is currently a non renewable resource. As the title suggests,
the gasoline will eventually be totally consumed in part by the gas guzzling vehicles common today.
For this reason, scientists have spent decades researching and developing alternative sources of fuel in
order to power daily life on Earth for many years to come. There is a wide array of renewable fuel
sources in use presently. These alternatives vary in efficiency, affordability, and many other aspects.
Hydrogen powered and electric powered vehicles are two comparable alternatives that have increased
in popularity and functionality in recent years and will continue to do so in the near future (10
Reasons, 2015).
History
Hydrogen powered vehicles initially became a reality with the invention of the first internal
combustion engine in 1806. The engine was powered by a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen gases.
This led to the first hydrogen powered car in 1908. Hydrogen powered vehicles were further advanced
in 1935 with Henry Garrett s electrolytic carburetor which allowed the cars to run on tap water. In the
1970 s, Archie Blue created and patented a new carburetor that produced enough H2 (hydrogen) gas to
power a car motor (History of Hydrogen, n.d.). Today, most commercial hydrogen vehicles use fuel
cells to power their engines. Electric powered vehicles had a slightly later

The Immigration And Refugee Policies
This paper will examine the immigration and refugee policies applied to Cubans and Salvadorans
from the late 20th century, marking the initial surge of migrants from this region to the United States.
The main reason that led to differences between Salvadoran and Cuban granted refugee status in the
U.S. was the fact that Salvadorans were fleeing violence of regimes that the U.S. supported while
Cubans were fleeing the U. S s primary enemy, communism. This in turn led to different integration
processes and acceptance into the state.
The U. S s Cold War policies of preventing the spread of communism depended on the U.S. s Military
interventions. However, the U.S. military occupations did not lead to democratic governments and

President Ronald Reagan argued that this threatened the U.S. way of life and hemisphere as a whole
and on May 9, 1984 addressed U.S. foreign policy allowing Cubans to come into the state as political
refugees (Guerra,331). For the U.S. government, Cuban emigrants provided the rationale for
continuing foreign policy aimed at containing communism and expanding the forces needed for battle
(Guerra,340).
Among the waves of Cubans who migrated to the United States, those who were benefited the most
were the the elite and working class (Pedraza,265). Being made up of the upper class that had a good
education and expertise resulted in a warm welcome and substantial economic opportunities. Cubans
enjoyed near automatic entrance in the the U.S. through President Lyndon Johnson s open door policy
that allowed the entrance of refugees from communism. Under this joint policy the U.S. and Cuban
government set up Freedom Flights that daily brought in Cubans for eight years which totaled more
than 250,000 people (Pedraza,313). These social classes enjoyed automatic permanent residency status
and additional benefits such as food, cash allotments, Cubans only education programs, and other
privileges never extended to other immigrants or minority groups.
However, the third wave of migrants, the Marielitos, instead of being welcomed like they were in the
past 20 years, the U.S. focused inordinately on the criminal element (Pedraza,270). This group

Roles Of The Jury
Twelve men and women appointed to a case are known as the Jury of that case. This jury must take
care in rendering a decision, their own experiences and emotions may play a role in their decision and
they also must take their time and consider all options before agreeing if the defendant is innocent or
guilty. The men and women on the jury must take so much care in rendering a decision because,
depending on the crime, the rest of someone s life may be on the line. If the roles were reversed and a

linage to the United kingdom, Europe, Germany, or Scandinavian. Being White in America is a skin
pigment, rather than a community or collaboration of traditions as displayed in minorities. Because
there is no regulated definition or standard as to what Whiteness is or should be, Through personal and
informal questioning of my fellow students on campus, a notable and interesting trend emerged: only
one of the Caucasian people that was questioned could answer what it meant to be White in America.
She defined it less about race and more about what White people stereotypically do. These include
things such as being in the upper middle class with a steady retirement fund in a two parent household.
This idea of a typical White family or life does hold some merit. The 2010 United States census has
found that the average White person will live in a community that is seventy seven percent white.
Among White Americans, ninety one percent of the people that they communicate with through their
social media networks are also White. Three quarters of White Americans report only have contact on
social media with people exclusively of their own race (2015, August 28). This practice of
predominantly associating with people of one s own skin tone is known as racial homogeneity.

Positive Effects Of Irrationality
How do you feel when you hear that you re an irrational customer? Maybe, you might feel angry and
irritated for being a irrational customer as many people think the irrationality is the worst and most
unnecessary human failure that leads only negative results forever. However, this view toward
irrationality has to be changed. Even though there are negative results of irrationality, there are lots of
positive effects of it. Of course, as the irrational consumption is not intended, it can make you use
more money, but, at the same time, it can increase the whole consumption over the country, which is
really necessary and important for an economic growth. Then why is increasing the whole
consumption important? It s because, in the economy, the whole consumption is almost same with the
overall demand, and as you know, it makes more industries and markets in economical terms, more ...

As I have already showed how irrational these cases are, from now on, I d like to show you that it s
unquestionable that human irrationality really helps our stagnant economy to go on. You might
remember my statement that the increase of consumption does increase the supply and lead to the end
of depression. Does this really happen? Of course! In these days, many people love to pull out the
dolls from the claw machine. And in fact, the immediate urge to play the claw machine makes them do
so even though buying the doll in the shop is more rational. This is why playing claw machine is
irrational. And, according to KBS news, this irrational behavior has increased the demand for doll
30% since last autumn. In other words, suppliers of claw machine have bought the dolls in order to
increase their supply. And this means that the human irrationality has thrived the claw machine

Testosterone And Prostate Cancer Essay
The objective of this paper was to find a correlation between elevated levels of testosterone and
prostate cancer. The rationale behind evaluating high levels of testosterone and prostate cancer is
testosterone is necessary for the development of the prostate. Elevated levels are needed for adolescent
males can form their reproductive system, in which the prostate is included. In addition, testosterone is
important in the formation of the adrenal gland because testosterone, being an androgen itself, is made
it the adrenal gland after puberty. Therefore, some scientists and researchers believe that there is a
direct correlation between higher levels of testosterone and prostate cancer. Although the intention of

The pathway begins with an androgen receptor, which binds different androgens, such as estrogen and
testosterone. (Estorgen is the hormone mainly found in women although, men also have it. The form
men have it in is called estradilol) The androgen receptor is recognized by the ligands 5α
dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone, which are both present in male sexual development.
After the testosterone is formed it is bound to a serum sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and
begins to circulate through the body. However, just because the SHBG is bound to the testosterone
only the free form of testosterone can enter into the prostate. Once inside the prostate, the testosterone
has changed into a more potent form of itself, allowing the prostatic cells to begin to grow. When
these cells begin to grow, the prostate does as well. [2] Since testosterone is derived from a cholesterol
molecule, it can easily pass through membranes, like the plasma membrane, because it is hydrophobic.
Other studies believe that a mutation in the androgen receptor is found to increase the cancer stage.
These mutations are found between zero to four percent in the latent stage and stage B prostate
tumors. (Stage B prostate cancer is a cancer that can be found during a digital rectal exam and is
limited to the prostate. It is also

Essay The Thought Process of Shakespeare s Hamlet
The Thought Process of Shakespeare s Hamlet
If Hamlet from himself be ta en away,
And when he s not himself does wrong Laertes,
Then Hamlet does it not, Hamlet denies it.
Who does it then? His madness. If t be so,
Hamlet is of the faction that is wrong d;
His madness is poor Hamlet s enemy.

Hamlet s self description in his apology to Laertes, delivered in the appropriately distanced and

obligatory cultural baggage that comes along with Hamlet heeds little attention to the incestuous

The chief definition of thought revolves around the basic concept of the mental process: The action or
process of thinking; mental action or activity in general, esp. that of the intellect; exercise of the
mental faculty; formation and arrangement of ideas in the mind (OED, 1a). A further subset of
definitions can be catalogued into a Manichean vision of positives and negatives and which equally
apply to Hamlet s central consideration of consciousness as a blessing or a curse. There is a stress on
thought s potentiality which fits with Hamlet s obsession with the infinitude of man: Conception,
imagination, fancy (OED, 4c). But following this comes the negative view of thought as quasi action,
a direct link to Hamlet s stall tactics: The entertaining of some project in the mind; the idea or notion
of doing something, as contemplated or entertained in the mind; hence, intention, purpose, design; esp.
an imperfect or half formed intention; with negative expressed or implied = not the least intention or
notion of doing something (OED, 4d). Similarly, the past neutral sense of Remembrance, Œmind
(OED, 5e) is countered by the negative anticipatory connotation of: Anxiety or distress of mind;
solicitude; grief, sorrow, trouble, care, vexation (OED, 5a). This current of duality is important to keep

Andy Warhol Influence
Andy Warhol is considered to be one of the most impactful artists to work in the later
half of the 20th century. His work challenged the institution of art in so many ways, from the
integration of popular culture iconography to his method of production in his Factory ; Warhol
confronted what made art art , and redefined it throughout the span of his career. Personally,
Warhol was obsessed with celebrity and mass reproduction of commodities of any kind. This
infatuation greatly influenced the way he worked, by using screen print, and appropriating
images from pop culture of the 60 s, he was able to gain the infamy he so adored. The infamous

notion that his work was obvious and lacked substance. Unlike Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, who
influenced movements like Dada, Pop, and Conceptualism poked fun and questioned the
institution by challenging them with thought provoking works like Fountain (1917) and Etant

voyeurism, irony, humor, and capitalism (The Art Story). Warhol may be compared to Duchamp,
however, their efforts seem very different, even at face value. The work that took place at the
factory was experimental in nature, but included a slew of studio assistants that aided Warhol in
the process of removing the artist from the art and questioned the value of the artist s hand
within the work (Guggenheim Museum). This concept brought critics and fans alike, but either
way, Warhol was still talked about, obsessed over, and scrutinized. All things the modern

Analysis Of Wilfred Owen s The Soldier On The Front Line
Wilfred Owen a soldier on the front line in World war one who composes his emotions and
experiences on the battlefield into poetry. He in his writing shines a light on suffering of the soldiers in
the unpleasant environment. The poem, Dulce et decorum est starts off with giving us an upsetting
image of the troops and their conditions. They are described as Bent double, like old beggars under
sacks . Use of simile in the first line of the poem compares young men to old beggars and reminds us
of how helpless they were. Their expectations of their appearance in clean uniforms and excitement of
the war, as suggested by the propaganda, were shattered. Distorted by the conflict, these soldiers once
strong and healthy had no strength left in them. Being labelled old beggars indicates they had nothing
to live for and were in a wait to get out of misery. Furthermore, the description of the soldiers and
their unlikely comparisons in similes does not improve. Owen writes Knock kneed, coughing like
hags which suggests that the health of these men or hags as they were being called was extremely
challenged and illnesses were taking over them. This is very effective as it shows how the men were
aged and coughing like witches. Being compared to hags which would have been very powerful back
in the days meant they were no less than women. Women at the time were considered very weak with
not many rights. They were restricted to certain jobs. Soldiers on the front line

The Clouds by Aristophanes, is a play centrally concerned with education. Aristophanes employs
satire to illustrate his conservative beliefs. It is intended to show readers that in the tendency to
philosophical subtleties lies the neglection of the real needs of the Athenians. According to
Aristophanes, philosophical speculation only acts to shake the established foundations of accepted
religion, gods, and ideals of morality.

undertones could stem from the fact that Athenians were trying to harmonize science and religion.
When new scientific theories were starting to surface and be questioned, many people couldn t even

turns to religion in order to remind his audience that both religion and science have to be equally open
to questions, critique, and even in Aristophanes case, satire. This suggestion, that certain things need
to be equally suceptable to to critique and questions can also be seen through the way that
Aristophanes suggests there is both a problem with the accepted model of a well rounded education,
and the newer model brought about by such philopophers as the Sophists. Aristophanes saw the
danger in not questioning an accepted theory or belief. Despite the fact I agree with Johnson in that
Aristophanes may be a
staunch defender of old values, Aristophanes saw that if something widely accepted was left
unquestioned for too long, it would become idle. Basically, an idea that I believe should be applied

a gloomy rainy day When a bunch of Romance writers was stuck in a room. When a man who went by

Mary Shelley wrote the novel, Frankenstein. Which was Published on January 1, 1818.

when the monster had asked for a companion. The monster had made a promise he would move far
away with his wife and they would never come to face man again. Victor had said he would. But as he

English bulldogs were once used to guard, control and bait bulls. They are known for their strength,

English bulldogs are strong, stubborn dogs that should be given obedience training and socialization

* You leave home for much of the day. * You want a companion to hang out with after a hard day s

Bulldogs love to be with their families, but they also like to snooze the day away. You can go off to
work and know that your Bully isn t desperate for an afternoon game of fetch. And when you return
home, your pal will be waiting for a snuggle on the couch.
When you come home and plop down on the couch, you may notice that your Bully has left behind a
present for you. You have dog hair all over your black pants! A Bulldog s short and smooth coat sheds
much more hair than you may imagine, and your Bulldog sheds year round, but you won t have the
hours of combing, brushing, and trimming maintenance that you would with many longer coated
breeds. Do pay attention to his wrinkles, though; you can easily manage a little touch up during your

You must realize that your Bulldog is your companion; she isn t an athlete. In fact, Bulldogs are
predisposed for lounging around. If you want a dog to keep you company in your active lifestyle,
consider a different breed.
The Bulldog isn t built for speed, and even if she wanted to run, jump, and play for extended periods

Process Essay About Becoming Dorothy Gale
The process to becoming a new character is one that many people do not get the chance to experience.
It starts with the makeup, applied in a dimly lit dressing room, surrounded by other actors in the same
position. Foundation put on so heavily that the face resembles a just painted wall and lips stained for
weeks after the final performance. Mascara applied thinly at first. Then, darker and darker so that the
people in the back can tell that your eyelashes are there. And in one swift motion, much like the act of
painting, a dollop of crimson red lines the cheekbone in a grand finale. The makeup is what makes
you appear different. It keeps the illusion alive. Becoming Dorothy Gale (from Kansas) was a simple
process, considering my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hums to the sound of the audience s murmur and I sing under my breath, looking for the pitch to
Somewhere over the Rainbow when, suddenly, in what seemed like slow motion, the beat is heard and
I walk on stage, no longer myself. Reciting the lines is just the beginning of acting the part. The
emotion conveyed brings the character to life. Dorothy was not just a girl in a movie or a book. She
was living, breathing, growing. She was me, and I was her. This is how theatre was meant to work. As
the performance ended, the reality of what I was losing became very clear to me. I said my last line,
stood in my last position, and bowed together with the wonderful cast I got to share my journey with.
The lights dimmed, the music played in conclusion, and the curtains closed slowly, signifying the end
of a star performance. Once the black curtains hit each other, in a final round of applause, the cast
scattered in joy towards the meet and greet. All the while, hugs and congratulations were dealt out like
a hand of cards.
The happiness those around me felt was not reciprocated by, a now lonely, me. In one instant, I had
lost a part of myself that had grown in the last few months. Once the production ended, I realized that
Dorothy was gone. We were no longer each other. I sat in silence, mourning the loss of a dear friend,

The Hobbit Compare And Contrast Bilbo And The Dwarves
Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I
found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Gandalf claims in
the quote above from The Hobbit that great power isn t always necessary to accomplish great feats. If
ordinary people can work as a team, the outcome can defeat an individual with great power. Bilbo and
the dwarves assisted each other, and got help from other sources in order to accomplish their goal and
grow as characters. This teamwork and growth is shown throughout the scenes of Rivendell,
Mirkwood, and with Smaug.

Captain Nemo
Captain Nemo is a mysterious, quiet man. It s not even certain that his name is Captain Nemo, Nemo
in Latin means no one Meaning that he wants them to call him captain no one. It appears that
throughout the book Captain Nemo isn t telling all the facts about himself as Verne wants us to be
curious about Captain Nemo s past. The only information that Captain Nemo gives us about himself is
that he wanted to leave society. We realize this when he says I am not what you call a civilized being!
I have broken with society for reasons which I alone have the right to appreciate. So I do not obey its

capable of caring for the new people, it shows us that under the crusty exterior Captain Nemo is a real
softie. His serious bitterness is quite off putting at the beginning of the book. It makes you wonder
what had to have happened to make him the way that he is. It may have been due to the fact that his
wife and children got killed, it may have been because of untold reasons, his childhood, bad
experiences with life itself, or a job failure. Either way it shows us that we, as humans can change just
by spending time and investing in people.
While reading 20,000 leagues under the sea I found myself wondering about how nice it would be to
just go somewhere no one has been before and start again. Maybe Nemo was just tired of his everyday
life where there were rules and expectations. He might have felt like there was nothing to stay for so
he left to see the unknown depths of the ocean. I believe that its human nature to be curious of what
we are unsure of. Captain Nemo seemed like a person that pushes his, and everybody else s

Social Institution Vs Organized Crime Essay
A social institution is defined as a group of individuals that live in a type of organized arrangement for
the main purpose of obtaining a certain goal. The definition of organized crime is a group of
individuals that get involved in illegal acts for the main purpose of making a profit. Many of these
organized crime groups are centralized and operated on a local, national, and international level, and
can be part of several nations (Shanty, 2007).
How the Social Institution and Organized Crime are the Similar Organized crime and a social

Ancient Mythology through Generations
Ancient Mythology has always been a very fascinating subject throughout many generations. Whether
it was stories of star crossed lovers, good versus evil, or the wrath of the gods these tales have always
had a way of captivating their audiences. One of the most prominent stories was about Odysseus, a
war hero who longed to return to his wife Queen Penelope after many years away fighting in the
Trojan War. He loved his queen very much and the fact they could not be together tore him apart.
When he returned from a long voyage at sea, he had to prove his love for his queen. Another major
tale was that of King Agamemnon, who was also fighting in the Trojan War and wanted to see his wife
Clytemnestra. However, when he returned Agamemnon might have found himself in a position that he
shouldn t have returned home to. Both of these stories tell tales about the epic war for the city of Troy,
however the fate of these two great leaders was vastly different when they returned home. The Trojan
War began when the Trojan Prince Paris stole the heart of Helen, the wife of King Menelaus of Sparta,
and the two of them returned back to try to be married. Menelaus was not going to take this act of
disrespect, and demanded that somebody pay the price for such a devious crime. Agamemnon was the
brother of Menelaus and the two of them formed an alliance against the people and leaders of Troy.
When the dust settled many familiar faces were dead including Achilles, Ajax, and Paris. King

Comparing Beowulf And The Fellowship Of The Ring
The Fellowship of the Ring is a story written by author J. R. R. Tolkien. His story loosely based
around Anglo Saxon mythology much like the epic of Beowulf. Beowulf is a much older story than
The Fellowship of the Ring, but they share some key details. Furthermore, one could easily compare
the two stories for their epic like elements. Both stories contain epic elements, but how does The
Fellowship of the ring fit the definition of an epic? Where does it lack? If you watch the film, the first
example of an epic element is presented when Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the the Grey are in Bilbo s
home (Jackson, The Fellowship of the Ring). The element is presented after Gandalf finds out that
Bilbo s been harboring the ring for a long time (Jackson, The Fellowship of the Ring). When this is
revealed, Bilbo gives a long speech about the ring s powers and how it has been affecting him in a

He leaves everything he owns, including the ring, in his adopted heirs possession. Bilbo s departure

very long journey. Frodo has no idea that this journey will result in him crossing multiple nations,

Solution For The Problem Solution
Problem Solution
The solution for the problem we observe is to design a product that has floss connecting to the
toothbrush. That way, people who forget will be reminded to include this in their everyday routine.
The consumers would be able to take the floss out. We think this is going to be the outcome because
30% of adults say they do not have it in handy, now they do!
Conclusion
Our solution was successful, but there was some things that could be fixed. Our suggested solution to
the problem was successful because we were able to remove the floss successfully, keep the dental
floss cutter in place, and we were able to remind the user to floss. When we tested this product, there
was some things that could have been improved. When in use, water got to the bottom, and slightly
removed the glue. To fix this, we could put a cover at the end, so it would prevent the water from
going in. It was also difficult to take the floss out of the product, but it was possible. Next time, we
could make an opening big enough so users do not have a problem with taking the floss out. Some
possible problems noticed in the test is that the floss could slip to the very bottom, and it would be
extremely difficult to get out. To fix this, we could put a slit near the dental floss cutter to prevent the
floss from accidentally going to the bottom. Another difficulty that is most likely to come off is having

A Girl Like Me, By Dr. Kenneth Clark
Racism has always been a hot topic issue in America. Starting, of course, with slavery and enduring
long after its abolishment. Many try to put an end to it, but this is one of those things that will take
many, many years to completely eradicate from society. In this paper, I will briefly discuss both the
Clark Doll Experiment and the film A Girl like Me, discuss my opinion on racism in America,
demonstrate how racism effects the schools, and discuss how and why my interpretation of this
compares with the views of another culture.
This transcript discusses the Clark Doll Experiment, a study conducted by Dr. Kenneth Clark and his
wife Mamie in 1939 to test children s self perception related to race. This transcript talks about how
the test was done on mainly African American children, using two dolls, a black and white one. It then
briefly talks about the short film A Girl like Me, and its director and creator Kiri David. Along with
that, the article explains how this experiment helped persuade the Supreme Court during the Brown V.
Board of Education case in 1954 to desegregate schools. By providing proof of the psychological
damage that was being done to black children attending segregated schools. Going back to the
discussion about Kiri Davis film, it talks about how she used the same experiment, and got close to the
same results as Clark did when he conducted it. This article continues talking about Kiri Davis, and an
interview that was done with her mother explaining

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Athens
Democracy and oligarchy, what does this have to do with anything, right? Well, actually when it
comes to Ancient Greece it is very important, because these two types of government are the main two
types in Greece. Athens is superior to Sparta, because how things were changed, and the power of the
people. First, Athens went through different types of government, it made them where they are now.
As they became more rich and a bigger city state, the governments were changing all the time. The
wealthiness became so big that it was given to the aristocracy, but only a few members. There might
have been a lack of laws that are staying in the city state. Although, secondly, Athens fixed that in 621
BCE by Draco the Statesmen. He provided the inequities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, drama/theatre, the drama concept was established by the Athenians. City Dionysia was a
festival, it was used as tribute, originally to Dionysia, the God of celebration and wine. Comedy and
tragedy, were the two types of drama in Greece. Comedy was fun/funny to make someone happy and
laugh. Tragedy were things like love/hate/war/and betrayal, though there would always end up being a
hero, who would die at the end. Between the two, Athens and Sparta, one of the had the best
geographical advantage, and I think we all know which one that is. Athens is superior to Sparta,
because it is the largest city state in Greece, the three different regions, the trades, and the climate.
There were three different regions, the lowlands, the mountains, and the coast. The soil was uneven
and very rocky on the Greek peninsula, which left less than 20% of land to be farmed on. They relied
mainly on grains and other food to be imported from the regions around them. Land Travel was
difficult because of the mountains around them. Greece controlled Attica, a region. All the mountains
there were fertile valleys, with so many farms between the

History Of Detroit, Michigan
Detroit, Michigan was originally settled as a French fur trading post that turned into a military post. It
was turned over to the British in 1760 after they lost the French and Indian War. In 1796, the British
lost Detroit to U.S. forces. Most of this history was lost when a fire destroyed the city in 1805. The
invention of the steamboat and the building of the Erie Canal provided efficient access to Detroit
through the Detroit River. The city grew rapidly and was incorporated in 1815, even before Michigan
was admitted to the Union. (Detroit. (n.d.). Retrieved December 04, 2017, from http://www.city

Nature Vs. Nurture Argumentative Analysis
Nature versus Nurture debate
Nature versus nurture is controversial debate that has been ongoing for several years about whether
behaviors are caused by inherited traits or are they influenced by the environment. When Genie the
wild child was found, she represented a tabula rasa blank state of learning due to the limited basic
skills she had, and incapability to speak. Hence, psychologists examined the nature versus nurture
argument through Genie. The early stages of growth are fundamentally crucial for children because
they need human contact, affection, and interaction to fully develop a sense of self and be fully
integrated into society. The absence of proper socialization during those critical periods caused Genie
to develop differently than the rest.
Genie was a victim of severe abuse and neglect by her father, Clark Wiley, she was discovered at the
age of 13 in her family s home, she was strapped down to her potty chair and isolated in a dark
bedroom for the first years of her life (McMahan, 2014). Genie walked in an inhuman way, she couldn
t speak, she was silent for the most part, the psychologists deduced that she was physically ... Show

For instance, in the third stage of initiative and guilt, during this stage, children will begin interacting
with children in school, explore their surroundings, if there is too much guilt in the children s action,
the child will slow or stop the interaction with others. The fourth stage is industry versus inferiority,
children at this stage will learn to read, write, and to do sums (McLeod, 2008). If this stage is not
encouraged by formal agents of socialization, then the child will begin to feel inferior, therefore he/she
may not reach his or her potential. Genie did not complete the stages of development, consequently

The Subprime Mortgage Crisis
The Subprime Mortgage crisis
ECO 2072 Principles of Macroeconomics
In the beginning
One of the first indications of the late 2000 financial crisis that led to downward spiral known as the
Recession was the subprime mortgages; known as the mortgage mess . A few years earlier the
substantial boom of the housing market led to the uprising of mortgage loans. Because interest rates
were low, investors took advantage of the low rates to buy homes that they could in return flip
(reselling) and homeowners bought homes that they typically wouldn t have been able to afford. High
interest rates usually keep people from borrowing money because it limits the amount available to use
for an investment. But the creation of the subprime mortgage ... Show more content on

Risky Business
Around 2006 the price of houses began to fall substantially fast. The oversupply of houses and lack of
buyers pushed the house prices down until they really plunged in the late 2006 and early 2007 (The
Subprime Mortgage Crisis Explained). These actions threw investors into a big dilemma. In the
beginning they believed buying the mortgages would bring them a profit, but quickly realized that the
mortgages would cost them more financial damage than reselling the homes. Nationwide, home vales
have declined about 16% since the summer of 2006 and experts project that the drop will continue
until homes have lost about 25% of their value (Biroonak, 2008). In other words mortgage homes are
underwater , that is, the mortgage owed equals or exceeds the value of the house (Biroonak, 2008).
Investors and homeowners started to go more in debt trying to pay off their original debts.
With all of the incentives and mortgage products given so easily to people that couldn t afford the high
prices (including interest rates), many people defaulted on their first mortgages because they were no
longer were able to receive the profit from the homes they first intended to flip. During the first
quarter of 2008, nearly 9% of all mortgage holders were delinquent or in foreclosure, the highest rate
since recordkeeping began in 1979. Foreclosure filings more than

  • 3. Diabetes Mellitus As A Disability The amount of patients being diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus has sky rocketed these past few years. In 2010 the figures were 25.8 million and 8.3% and has increased in 2012 to 29.1 million Americans, or 9.3%. (American Diabetes Association, 2014); it is seen nationwide, and has now even begun to affect our youth. In South Texas Diabetes Mellitus seems to be the number one thriving disease affecting its general population. Diabetes Mellitus is now one of the most widely known diseases that has turned into an epidemic and in 2008 the ADAAmendments Act of 2008 acknowledged Diabetes Mellitus as a disability, and rightly so since it affects many, from children to the elderly, causing complications (such as amputations, failure of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two out of three people with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke (American Diabetes Association, 2014).Society needs to further educate themselves in order to fully understand this disease and how it can affect their daily lives, whether by short term complications like blurred vision, to long term complications like kidney failure, and how they can prevent or delay diabetes and its complications. Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic illness that requires the individual to manage, support, and educate themselves of their illness in order to prevent any further complications. It is disease that is caused by the impairment of insulin secretion and also caused by insulin resistance and insulin deficiency. Insulin is the hormone used to control and maintain homeostasis over the amount of glucose in our blood stream. If not much insulin is secreted it can lead to hyperglycemia, which is an abnormal increase of glucose in the body. Early symptoms of Diabetes Mellitus are related to hyperglycemia and include, but not limited to, polyuria (excessive urination), polydipsia (excessive thirst), weight loss, sometimes with polyphagia (excessive hunger), and blurred vision. This may also lead to pre diabetes, which is when glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). • 4. My Favorite Time Of Year I see the turning of a leaf dancing in an autumn sun, and brilliant shades of crimson glowing when a day is done . This quote by Hazelmarie Mattie Elliott describes what I see in a day of fall. The colorful leaves in the crisp cold air where the sun shines. My favorite time of year is Fall because of all the Pumpkins, and celebrating Halloween and I get to celebrate thanksgiving. The first reason why I like Fall so much is because of all the dazzling pumpkins. My favorite thing about pumpkins is Going to the pumpkin patch and picking out the perfect pumpkin. For me the perfect pumpkin would have a bold orange color, and it would be immense, with a perfect slender look. Me and my family have been going to a pumpkin patch every year since I was about 2 years old. During our time at the pumpkin patch my brothers and I always have a contest to see who can find the biggest pumpkin in the field, nevertheless this time I won, the pumpkin I found weighed 15 pounds and was really fat with a nice sheer matte orange color. When I saw this pumpkin, it was like a glowing spot light had appeared right over the pumpkin. Something very unusual my brother Alex had found in the pumpkin patch was a s medium sized pumpkin that was kind of shaped like a peanut, he had most definitely won the award for most weird pumpkin. Once we all came home with our pumpkins, we started to carve our glorious pumpkins because we are so excited to see how they would turn out. In like manner the design s that I ... In the short story Indian Education, Sherman Alexie describes his schooling from childhood to adolescence. Alexie s usage of formatting and other literary devices develops the themes of starvation in acceptance, starvation in understanding, and starvation in friendship. From the start of the short story, Alexie begins portraying the lack of acceptance and friendship in his childhood. Sherman Alexie structures the story to create a timeline for the reader. • 6. Speech For Benevolent Parents My benevolent parents. First off, I would just like to say thank you. You guys are as unbelievable as a chicken driving a motorcycle through a hoop on fire. You have given everyone a awe inspiring life and have given us everything and anything we have ever asked for and desired. You have made my life as easy as reciting my ABC s. Thank you for giving us the best childhood. Thank you for loving all of us unconditionally, and loving me a bit more. Thank you also for giving me the proper tools to succeed in life. Finally, thank you for supporting us throughout our lives and for the continued support in the future. Now, since in a couple more years I will be heading off to the next big step in my life, college, I know that both of you guys are going to miss me since I won t be home for long periods of time. Mom will definitely miss me and call me but Dad will call me like once every week. He is a strong individual, like father, like son. Since all of this would happen I was thinking that we should expand our family. However, when I say expand our family I don t mean getting a baby, I mean we should acquire a Canis lupus familiaris. In laymen s terms, we should procure a German Shepherd. Now, I understand that you have disliked the topic and will sigh in disbelief that I m bringing it back up. However, if we were to get a puppy, then I believe it would be good for us. I have brought together many justifications of why obtaining a pup is helpful. A baby hound gives you company on those lonely days and a dog s company would be satisfying. Dogs would also help you in making new friends and getting to know the neighborhood and the people in the neighborhood. Also, getting a big protective dog, such as a trained German Shepherd would keep you as safe as possible and would risk its life for you. So you know that dogs are the best pets for you. You will gain an extra companion. I understand that when I go to college, most of your children will never be home. I will be at college, and the rest will be working. So when you miss me, because I know you will, then our kind, and loving dog will be there for you. Getting a dog will also mean that there will forever be a furry, friendly, playful friend at home. He will always be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Terrestrial Planet Mars Essay The terrestrial planet Mars is a topic of conversation many scientists have been invested in for the past few centuries. There has been historical evidence found that astronomers had been drawing maps of Mars since 1860s, with a very good attempt for its time being drawn by German/Italian astronomer G.V Schiaparelli in 1877. One might begin to ponder why Mars has been such a large interest in the astronomy field. The red planet is a huge topic of debate because scientists believe there is a possibility of life, although this has not been vastly established it has yet to be concretely disproven. Life consists of things that are able to take in energy from the environment and transform it for growth and reproduction, stimulation fosters a reaction like motion, and anything that has life will grow and develop.1 Finding life on Mars is more significant than one might initially imagine, Earth may potentially see an end due to global warming, collision between the Milky way and the Andromeda Galaxy, or many other causations, which is even more reason the human race may need to find a second home. Mars is filled with new mysteries that we have yet to discover that may be the secret to establishing Mars as our new beginning for the human race. Mars, also known as the red planet is four planets away from the Sun measuring out a distance of 1.52 AU. The surface temperature of Mars ranges from 87OC to 5OC. It also experiences twenty four hours of daylight, which is unlike Earth. Mars ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Hydrogen Powered Vs Electric Powered Vehicles Hydrogen Powered Versus Electric Powered Vehicles The human race is in the midst of an energy crisis. The gasoline used around the world is currently a non renewable resource. As the title suggests, the gasoline will eventually be totally consumed in part by the gas guzzling vehicles common today. For this reason, scientists have spent decades researching and developing alternative sources of fuel in order to power daily life on Earth for many years to come. There is a wide array of renewable fuel sources in use presently. These alternatives vary in efficiency, affordability, and many other aspects. Hydrogen powered and electric powered vehicles are two comparable alternatives that have increased in popularity and functionality in recent years and will continue to do so in the near future (10 Reasons, 2015). History Hydrogen powered vehicles initially became a reality with the invention of the first internal combustion engine in 1806. The engine was powered by a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen gases. This led to the first hydrogen powered car in 1908. Hydrogen powered vehicles were further advanced in 1935 with Henry Garrett s electrolytic carburetor which allowed the cars to run on tap water. In the 1970 s, Archie Blue created and patented a new carburetor that produced enough H2 (hydrogen) gas to power a car motor (History of Hydrogen, n.d.). Today, most commercial hydrogen vehicles use fuel cells to power their engines. Electric powered vehicles had a slightly later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Immigration And Refugee Policies This paper will examine the immigration and refugee policies applied to Cubans and Salvadorans from the late 20th century, marking the initial surge of migrants from this region to the United States. The main reason that led to differences between Salvadoran and Cuban granted refugee status in the U.S. was the fact that Salvadorans were fleeing violence of regimes that the U.S. supported while Cubans were fleeing the U. S s primary enemy, communism. This in turn led to different integration processes and acceptance into the state. The U. S s Cold War policies of preventing the spread of communism depended on the U.S. s Military interventions. However, the U.S. military occupations did not lead to democratic governments and more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... President Ronald Reagan argued that this threatened the U.S. way of life and hemisphere as a whole and on May 9, 1984 addressed U.S. foreign policy allowing Cubans to come into the state as political refugees (Guerra,331). For the U.S. government, Cuban emigrants provided the rationale for continuing foreign policy aimed at containing communism and expanding the forces needed for battle (Guerra,340). Among the waves of Cubans who migrated to the United States, those who were benefited the most were the the elite and working class (Pedraza,265). Being made up of the upper class that had a good education and expertise resulted in a warm welcome and substantial economic opportunities. Cubans enjoyed near automatic entrance in the the U.S. through President Lyndon Johnson s open door policy that allowed the entrance of refugees from communism. Under this joint policy the U.S. and Cuban government set up Freedom Flights that daily brought in Cubans for eight years which totaled more than 250,000 people (Pedraza,313). These social classes enjoyed automatic permanent residency status and additional benefits such as food, cash allotments, Cubans only education programs, and other privileges never extended to other immigrants or minority groups. However, the third wave of migrants, the Marielitos, instead of being welcomed like they were in the past 20 years, the U.S. focused inordinately on the criminal element (Pedraza,270). This group ... • 11. Gender, A, And Social Orientation be seen as natural, a default identity; it goes unnoticed, hidden, and taken for granted as normal (Dottolo Stewart, 2013). Being White in America has no set definition other than an individual with a linage to the United kingdom, Europe, Germany, or Scandinavian. Being White in America is a skin pigment, rather than a community or collaboration of traditions as displayed in minorities. Because there is no regulated definition or standard as to what Whiteness is or should be, Through personal and informal questioning of my fellow students on campus, a notable and interesting trend emerged: only one of the Caucasian people that was questioned could answer what it meant to be White in America. She defined it less about race and more about what White people stereotypically do. These include things such as being in the upper middle class with a steady retirement fund in a two parent household. This idea of a typical White family or life does hold some merit. The 2010 United States census has found that the average White person will live in a community that is seventy seven percent white. Among White Americans, ninety one percent of the people that they communicate with through their social media networks are also White. Three quarters of White Americans report only have contact on social media with people exclusively of their own race (2015, August 28). This practice of predominantly associating with people of one s own skin tone is known as racial homogeneity. Caucasians ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Positive Effects Of Irrationality How do you feel when you hear that you re an irrational customer? Maybe, you might feel angry and irritated for being a irrational customer as many people think the irrationality is the worst and most unnecessary human failure that leads only negative results forever. However, this view toward irrationality has to be changed. Even though there are negative results of irrationality, there are lots of positive effects of it. Of course, as the irrational consumption is not intended, it can make you use more money, but, at the same time, it can increase the whole consumption over the country, which is really necessary and important for an economic growth. Then why is increasing the whole consumption important? It s because, in the economy, the whole consumption is almost same with the overall demand, and as you know, it makes more industries and markets in economical terms, more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I have already showed how irrational these cases are, from now on, I d like to show you that it s unquestionable that human irrationality really helps our stagnant economy to go on. You might remember my statement that the increase of consumption does increase the supply and lead to the end of depression. Does this really happen? Of course! In these days, many people love to pull out the dolls from the claw machine. And in fact, the immediate urge to play the claw machine makes them do so even though buying the doll in the shop is more rational. This is why playing claw machine is irrational. And, according to KBS news, this irrational behavior has increased the demand for doll 30% since last autumn. In other words, suppliers of claw machine have bought the dolls in order to increase their supply. And this means that the human irrationality has thrived the claw machine industry and doll industry, even if the whole markets are in the economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Testosterone And Prostate Cancer Essay The objective of this paper was to find a correlation between elevated levels of testosterone and prostate cancer. The rationale behind evaluating high levels of testosterone and prostate cancer is testosterone is necessary for the development of the prostate. Elevated levels are needed for adolescent males can form their reproductive system, in which the prostate is included. In addition, testosterone is important in the formation of the adrenal gland because testosterone, being an androgen itself, is made it the adrenal gland after puberty. Therefore, some scientists and researchers believe that there is a direct correlation between higher levels of testosterone and prostate cancer. The pathway begins with an androgen receptor, which binds different androgens, such as estrogen and testosterone. (Estorgen is the hormone mainly found in women although, men also have it. The form men have it in is called estradilol) The androgen receptor is recognized by the ligands 5α dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone, which are both present in male sexual development. After the testosterone is formed it is bound to a serum sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and begins to circulate through the body. However, just because the SHBG is bound to the testosterone only the free form of testosterone can enter into the prostate. Once inside the prostate, the testosterone has changed into a more potent form of itself, allowing the prostatic cells to begin to grow. When these cells begin to grow, the prostate does as well. [2] Since testosterone is derived from a cholesterol molecule, it can easily pass through membranes, like the plasma membrane, because it is hydrophobic. Other studies believe that a mutation in the androgen receptor is found to increase the cancer stage. These mutations are found between zero to four percent in the latent stage and stage B prostate tumors. (Stage B prostate cancer is a cancer that can be found during a digital rectal exam and is limited to the prostate. It is also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The chief definition of thought revolves around the basic concept of the mental process: The action or process of thinking; mental action or activity in general, esp. that of the intellect; exercise of the mental faculty; formation and arrangement of ideas in the mind (OED, 1a). A further subset of definitions can be catalogued into a Manichean vision of positives and negatives and which equally apply to Hamlet s central consideration of consciousness as a blessing or a curse. There is a stress on thought s potentiality which fits with Hamlet s obsession with the infinitude of man: Conception, imagination, fancy (OED, 4c). But following this comes the negative view of thought as quasi action, a direct link to Hamlet s stall tactics: The entertaining of some project in the mind; the idea or notion of doing something, as contemplated or entertained in the mind; hence, intention, purpose, design; esp. an imperfect or half formed intention; with negative expressed or implied = not the least intention or notion of doing something (OED, 4d). Similarly, the past neutral sense of Remembrance, Œmind (OED, 5e) is countered by the negative anticipatory connotation of: Anxiety or distress of mind; solicitude; grief, sorrow, trouble, care, vexation (OED, 5a). His work challenged the institution of art in so many ways, from the integration of popular culture iconography to his method of production in his Factory ; Warhol confronted what made art art , and redefined it throughout the span of his career. Personally, Warhol was obsessed with celebrity and mass reproduction of commodities of any kind. Expanding further on the notion that his work was obvious and lacked substance. Unlike Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, who influenced movements like Dada, Pop, and Conceptualism poked fun and questioned the institution by challenging them with thought provoking works like Fountain (1917) and Etant donnes (1946 66). These works, unlike Warhol s, had meaning and confronted topics like voyeurism, irony, humor, and capitalism (The Art Story). Warhol may be compared to Duchamp, however, their efforts seem very different, even at face value. The work that took place at the factory was experimental in nature, but included a slew of studio assistants that aided Warhol in the process of removing the artist from the art and questioned the value of the artist s hand within the work (Guggenheim Museum). This concept brought critics and fans alike, but either way, Warhol was still talked about, obsessed over, and scrutinized. All things the modern celebrity faces.

The second chapter in Sondheim Co. by Craig Zadan, I ve never even known a Puerto Rican! , describes Stephen Sondheim s journey the challenges, the failures, and the successes before, during, and after the production of his first Broadway musical, West Side Story. Sondheim, rather young compared to his counterparts, was asked by Leonard Bernstein to co write lyrics for his new musical version of Romeo and Juliet. Sondheim was very reluctant to jump on board because he did not view himself as merely a lyricist, but a composer. • 21. Analysis Of Wilfred Owen s The Soldier On The Front Line Wilfred Owen a soldier on the front line in World war one who composes his emotions and experiences on the battlefield into poetry. He in his writing shines a light on suffering of the soldiers in the unpleasant environment. The poem, Dulce et decorum est starts off with giving us an upsetting image of the troops and their conditions. They are described as Bent double, like old beggars under sacks . Use of simile in the first line of the poem compares young men to old beggars and reminds us of how helpless they were. Their expectations of their appearance in clean uniforms and excitement of the war, as suggested by the propaganda, were shattered. Distorted by the conflict, these soldiers once strong and healthy had no strength left in them. Being labelled old beggars indicates they had nothing to live for and were in a wait to get out of misery. Furthermore, the description of the soldiers and their unlikely comparisons in similes does not improve. Owen writes Knock kneed, coughing like hags which suggests that the health of these men or hags as they were being called was extremely challenged and illnesses were taking over them. This is very effective as it shows how the men were aged and coughing like witches. Being compared to hags which would have been very powerful back in the days meant they were no less than women. Women at the time were considered very weak with not many rights. They were restricted to certain jobs. Soldiers on the front line ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. The Clouds by Aristophanes Essay The Clouds by Aristophanes Relevant in Today s World The Clouds by Aristophanes, is a play centrally concerned with education. Aristophanes employs satire to illustrate his conservative beliefs. It is intended to show readers that in the tendency to philosophical subtleties lies the neglection of the real needs of the Athenians. According to Aristophanes, philosophical speculation only acts to shake the established foundations of accepted religion, gods, and ideals of morality. Specifically, as it was even discused in The Apology, Aristophanes believed that philosophical attitudes held by the Sophists enabled those who held them to convince others of wrong or weaker beliefs simply by sounding as if they knew what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In doing some background research into why this would be, I discovered that Aristophanes religious undertones could stem from the fact that Athenians were trying to harmonize science and religion. When new scientific theories were starting to surface and be questioned, many people couldn t even consider them without sounding as if they were committing treason against the state. Aristophanes turns to religion in order to remind his audience that both religion and science have to be equally open to questions, critique, and even in Aristophanes case, satire. This suggestion, that certain things need to be equally suceptable to to critique and questions can also be seen through the way that Aristophanes suggests there is both a problem with the accepted model of a well rounded education, and the newer model brought about by such philopophers as the Sophists. Aristophanes saw the danger in not questioning an accepted theory or belief. Despite the fact I agree with Johnson in that Aristophanes may be a staunch defender of old values, Aristophanes saw that if something widely accepted was left unquestioned for too long, it would become idle. • 37. Loss Of Innocence In Jane Eyre In the 1800s, the idea of a lowly governess marrying a rich estate owner was absord, if not impossible. However, this is precisely what the protagonist in Charlotte Brontë s novel, Jane Eyre did through her fiery persistence and passion. Jane grew up in her aunt s house, Gateshead, where she was unwanted by even the servants. However, when Jane is ten years old she is sent a way to a boarding school for girls called Lowood, which is led by an extremely hypocritical Mr. Brocklehurst. After spending 6 years as a student and 2 years as a teacher at Lowood she finds a job as a governess for a French girl at an estate named Thornfield. While Jane finds true friendship in Diana and Mary, St. John is cold, and has an extremely negative effect on Jane s livelihood. While Jane and St. John are in the middle of an argument Jane tries to convince St. John to tell him something he has been hiding from her: But I apprised you that I was a hard man, said he, And I am a hard woman impossible to put off. And then, he pursued, I am cold: no fervor infects me. Whereas I am hot, and fire dissolves ice. The blaze there has thawed all the snow from your cloak (416). While St. John and Jane can be quite similar in their stubbornness and their passion for what they believe in, St. John is cold, and acts completely on logic and what he believes is right, while Jane has impulsive tendencies and thinks one should balance emotion with spiritual morals. This divide between them proves to cause even more problems in the future, when St. John attempts to convince Jane to accompany him to India. One day, when he is teaching her Hindustani Jane realizes, He acquired a certain influence over me that took away my liberty of mind...I could no longer talk or laugh freely...vivacity (at least in me) was distasteful...I fell under a freezing spell. When he said go, I went: come, I came, do this, I did it. But I did not love my servitude (432). The effect St. John has on Jane is strong enough to completely take away her fiery personality and replace it with his own icy and emotionless one. While Jane was at Thornfield with Mr. Rochester she happily called him her master and was eager to serve him. However, while at Moor House with St. John she dreads the servitude with him because instead of enhance her passion, he extinguishes it. • 40. Comparing Beowulf And The Fellowship Of The Ring The Fellowship of the Ring is a story written by author J. R. R. Tolkien. His story loosely based around Anglo Saxon mythology much like the epic of Beowulf. Beowulf is a much older story than The Fellowship of the Ring, but they share some key details. Furthermore, one could easily compare the two stories for their epic like elements. Both stories contain epic elements, but how does The Fellowship of the ring fit the definition of an epic? Where does it lack? If you watch the film, the first example of an epic element is presented when Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the the Grey are in Bilbo s home (Jackson, The Fellowship of the Ring). The element is presented after Gandalf finds out that Bilbo s been harboring the ring for a long time (Jackson, The Fellowship of the Ring). When this is revealed, Bilbo gives a long speech about the ring s powers and how it has been affecting him in a great way. Notably, the ring brings many good things to Bilbo, like youth and health. In fact, outwardly he hasn t aged for sixty years, but he humbly recognizes there s an underlying darkness to the ring that brings great temptation to the bearer (Jackson, The Fellowship of the Ring). ... • 41. Solution For The Problem Solution Problem Solution The solution for the problem we observe is to design a product that has floss connecting to the toothbrush. That way, people who forget will be reminded to include this in their everyday routine. The consumers would be able to take the floss out. We think this is going to be the outcome because 30% of adults say they do not have it in handy, now they do! Conclusion Our solution was successful, but there was some things that could be fixed. Our suggested solution to the problem was successful because we were able to remove the floss successfully, keep the dental floss cutter in place, and we were able to remind the user to floss. When we tested this product, there was some things that could have been improved. When in use, water got to the bottom, and slightly removed the glue. To fix this, we could put a cover at the end, so it would prevent the water from going in. It was also difficult to take the floss out of the product, but it was possible. Next time, we could make an opening big enough so users do not have a problem with taking the floss out. Some possible problems noticed in the test is that the floss could slip to the very bottom, and it would be extremely difficult to get out. To fix this, we could put a slit near the dental floss cutter to prevent the floss from accidentally going to the bottom. Another difficulty that is most likely to come off is having to ... Many try to put an end to it, but this is one of those things that will take many, many years to completely eradicate from society. In this paper, I will briefly discuss both the Clark Doll Experiment and the film A Girl like Me, discuss my opinion on racism in America, demonstrate how racism effects the schools, and discuss how and why my interpretation of this compares with the views of another culture. This transcript discusses the Clark Doll Experiment, a study conducted by Dr. Kenneth Clark and his wife Mamie in 1939 to test children s self perception related to race. This transcript talks about how the test was done on mainly African American children, using two dolls, a black and white one. It then briefly talks about the short film A Girl like Me, and its director and creator Kiri David. Along with that, the article explains how this experiment helped persuade the Supreme Court during the Brown V. Board of Education case in 1954 to desegregate schools. By providing proof of the psychological damage that was being done to black children attending segregated schools. Going back to the discussion about Kiri Davis film, it talks about how she used the same experiment, and got close to the same results as Clark did when he conducted it. Well, actually when it comes to Ancient Greece it is very important, because these two types of government are the main two types in Greece. Athens is superior to Sparta, because how things were changed, and the power of the people. First, Athens went through different types of government, it made them where they are now. As they became more rich and a bigger city state, the governments were changing all the time. The wealthiness became so big that it was given to the aristocracy, but only a few members. • 49. Nature Vs. Nurture Argumentative Analysis Nature versus Nurture debate Nature versus nurture is controversial debate that has been ongoing for several years about whether behaviors are caused by inherited traits or are they influenced by the environment. When Genie the wild child was found, she represented a tabula rasa blank state of learning due to the limited basic skills she had, and incapability to speak. Hence, psychologists examined the nature versus nurture argument through Genie. The early stages of growth are fundamentally crucial for children because they need human contact, affection, and interaction to fully develop a sense of self and be fully integrated into society. The absence of proper socialization during those critical periods caused Genie to develop differently than the rest. Genie was a victim of severe abuse and neglect by her father, Clark Wiley, she was discovered at the age of 13 in her family s home, she was strapped down to her potty chair and isolated in a dark bedroom for the first years of her life (McMahan, 2014). The Subprime Mortgage Crisis The Subprime Mortgage crisis ECO 2072 Principles of Macroeconomics In the beginning One of the first indications of the late 2000 financial crisis that led to downward spiral known as the Recession was the subprime mortgages; known as the mortgage mess . A few years earlier the substantial boom of the housing market led to the uprising of mortgage loans. Because interest rates were low, investors took advantage of the low rates to buy homes that they could in return flip (reselling) and homeowners bought homes that they typically wouldn t have been able to afford. High interest rates usually keep people from borrowing money because it limits the amount available to use for an investment. But the creation of the subprime mortgage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Risky Business Around 2006 the price of houses began to fall substantially fast. The oversupply of houses and lack of buyers pushed the house prices down until they really plunged in the late 2006 and early 2007 (The Subprime Mortgage Crisis Explained). These actions threw investors into a big dilemma. In the beginning they believed buying the mortgages would bring them a profit, but quickly realized that the mortgages would cost them more financial damage than reselling the homes. Nationwide, home vales have declined about 16% since the summer of 2006 and experts project that the drop will continue until homes have lost about 25% of their value (Biroonak, 2008). In other words mortgage homes are underwater , that is, the mortgage owed equals or exceeds the value of the house (Biroonak, 2008). Investors and homeowners started to go more in debt trying to pay off their original debts. With all of the incentives and mortgage products given so easily to people that couldn t afford the high prices (including interest rates), many people defaulted on their first mortgages because they were no longer were able to receive the profit from the homes they first intended to flip.
