Kant Disinterestedness
Reflective judgement requires taking into account Kant s four factors of beauty: quality, necessity,
universality, and purposiveness. When applying judgement to an object, a person must first inspect
the quality of the object. Whether or not an object is able to instill the feeling of pleasure or
displeasure on the observer. However, the pleasure one acquires from an object must not be limited
to the observer s personal desires. That is, he must not secretly crave the objects. By suppressing
one s desire for an object, the observer perverts his judgement of the object. Consequently, in the
section entitled Second Moment , Kant believes that a person judges beauty through the unbiased
concept of disinterestedness. Kant refers to disinterestedness... Show more content on

Kant believes that, when we admire an object, we do so because we are attracted to why we find
the object stimulating. The problem lies in the fact that we cannot locate the source of the object s
purpose. That is to say, the object draws the observer to it, stimulates the senses, and fills the
observer with a yearning to inquire more about the object. For Kant, in order for an object to be
beautiful, we must recognize that the object has a purpose. However, we cannot limit the purpose
of the object based on its utility. These four factors are what Kant believes validates his theory that
judgements of beauty are both subjective and

Sailing with Vespucci
Sailing with Vespucci If I were to ride aboard the ship in the age of exploration, I would choose
Amerigo Vespucci. Amerigo was born in Florence, Italy on March 9, 1951. He was one of the first
Europeans to believe that the land Columbus had discovered was not the Indies, but rather an
entirely new continent. Because of this, the new land would be called the Americas, a feminized
version of Amerigo. Amerigo was born in Florence, Italy, his parents, Ser Nastagio and Lisabetta
Mini, were friends of the Medici, a very wealthy family that controlled Italy from the 1400s to
1737. When Amerigo was in his early 20s his uncle, who was the ambassador to France, sent him
on a brief diplomatic mission to Paris. This trip probably sparked his fascination of travel. After
that Amerigo held a number of different jobs that would teach him valuable lessons that would
benefit later in his life. These included small business endeavors, being a banker, and even being
involved with merchants who would supply Columbus journey across the Atlantic. On one
occasion he even got to sit down with Columbus and talk to him about the new world. This
conversation most likely inspired his adventures to the new world. So when Amerigo was in his
40s he decided to abandon his failing business venture and become an explorer, funded by queen
Isabella of Spain, before he was too old to. It is believed that Amerigo left for his first voyage on

Chabadoufe s Memoiry Analysis
Almost every commonplace scenario has a polite phrase that goes alongside it. When someone
sneezes, a scattered symphony of Bless you s follows soon afterward. When you receive a gift
of kindness, you would respond, Thank you. When accepting another s gratitude, you would
say, You re welcome. But what do you say when someone coughs? By normal people s standards,
the answer to that question is nothing at all. After somebody coughs, not a single word is
uttered, leaving an empty silence which desires to be filled with something. A while back in
middle school, it was this palpable feeling of emptiness which drove me to ponder the nature of
this situation. How could there be no phrase to respond to a cough? I soon resolved to come up
with my own word or words to use in response of someone else coughing. I thought on possibilities
for weeks, but I couldn t seem to find the right sounds to use. Following a... Show more content on

Chabadoufe is more than just an automatic response to the sound of a cough. It holds more
meaning than that. When saying chabadoufe, you not only acknowledge that someone has
coughed, but also express concern or care for the individual that coughed. It is almost akin to
asking, Are you okay? since coughing feels very unpleasant and usually is a sign of an even
more unpleasant occurrence such as having a cold, sore throat, or something stuck in your throat.
With all these thoughts floating around in my head, I decided it would be wrong to share my
first response with my friend. Instead of telling her the original generic response I had planned, I
said, Saying chabadoufe is a word used to both acknowledge that a person has coughed and
display concern over that person s well being and possible malady. After hearing that, she looked at
me a bit strangely, but I was content in providing her with a truthful and complete

Compare and Contrast Happines in Candide, Rasselas, Essay...
Happiness
Throughout history humankind has been trying to define happiness. What is it exactly and how
do we obtain it? We always think that happiness is a place to be or a destination and technically,
that is the main premise or goal of our lives; to obtain happiness. So our whole lives go by from
the minute were born to the last breath we take in a quest to work hard in order to reach that
destination. Naturally, many philosophical writers have jumped on the bandwagon and put in their
two cents of their views on the matter of happiness. Alexander Pope talks about the relationship and
purpose man has to the universe in An Essay on Man, Voltaire wrote about living in blind optimism
with a false notion of happiness in Candide, and Samuel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or can a part contain the whole? Is the great chain, that draws all to agree, and drawn supports,
upheld by God or thee? ( Pope 369) According to Pope, we as humans should learn to simply accept
our position in the great chain of being. If we are able to do so, we will be able to successfully live
happy lives. Man s place in the chain is below the angels but above beasts. Each element of the
chain is only a part, so we as humans are only part of the whole of God s plan.
Then we have Voltaire who wrote Candide. Voltaire was one of those people who started
questioning life as it was being lived as opposed to Pope who accepted life the way it was. He
was not an Atheist because he did believe in a God. Although he believed in God, he had a
problem with religion and questioned things written in the Bible, so basically he was a
confused individual looking for answers. These questions are what led him to write Candide. In
Candide, Voltaire mocked various aspects of religion and the way people viewed life, especially
people like Alexander Pope. Candide heavily mocked Pope s views in An Essay on Man.
Voltaire as opposed to Pope, realizes that there is evil in the world. At first, Voltaire was a fan of
Pope but later abandons such an optimistic view which he formerly believed in, because he realizes
that man has suffered through so much misery and hardships that it just did not make sense. He

Introduction Of Assembly Line Balancing
1. Introduction
Assembly line balancing (ALB) issue was initially presented by Bryton and the principal
exploratory study was distributed by Salveson. The mechanical production system adjusting issue
comprises of appointing undertakings to a requested grouping of stations such that the priority
relations among the errands are fulfilled and some execution measure is enhanced. Because of
computational many sided quality of the issue (ALB) is known not a NP difficult issue. The issue
is NP hard, since a unique variant of the issue, the one including no priority relations among
assignments is a receptacle pressing issue which is NP hard in the solid sense. Faaland said that the
current systems endeavoring to locate the ideal arrangement have a multifaceted nature of no less
than 2 power on (N). Henceforth, creating heuristic methods to take care of issues of a
commonsense size remains the main choice for the specialists. The ideal looking for calculations
must be utilized to assess the execution of the heuristic methods by giving the ideal answers for the
issues of limited sizes.
Lately, numerous makers have embraced just in time (JIT) way to deal with assembling, finding
that it enhances their profitability, benefits, and item quality. JIT is gainful for organizations
occupied with tedious, work shop, or process producing. One of the imperative changes coming
about because of (JIT) execution is the substitution of the customary straight lines with U formed
creation lines. The

The Heroic Significance of Christ in The Dream of the Rood...
The Heroic Significance of Christ in The Dream of the Rood
Incorporating traditional Anglo Saxon beliefs of heroism with the image of Christ on the cross
allows the poet of The Dream of the Rood to effectively communicate the benefits of Christianity
to pagan warriors. By comparing characteristics, duties, and treatment of heroes in Beowulf and
the Battle of Maldon to the depiction of Christ in The Dream of the Rood, it becomes evident that
the image of Christ is altered to mirror that of heroic warriors. Through this melding of heroic
beliefs and Christianity, the poet of Rood is able to show how Christ can become the ultimate ring
giver or Lord.

The Christ depicted in this passage willingly accepts his battle on the cross and because of this
act the poet then goes on to describe Christ as a warrior , strong, and stouthearted. Christ is not
portrayed as a meek and humble man resigned to his task as savior and lord. Within this portion of
the text, he becomes a bold warrior climbing the cross as if going into battle. At the end of the
poem, the narrator looks to Christ and the cross for protection.
Furthermore, the primary duty of a hero is to provide his kinsmen with great treasure and
weaponry. Beowulf fulfills this duty by stating Behold this treasure #8230; that I have been
allowed to leave my people #8230; (Beowulf 91) to Wiglaf after defeating the dragon. The
warriors in The Battle of Maldon describe their Lord and hero as a treasure giver, and also a ring
giver. The warriors in both of these texts reflect on all that their lords or heroes provide for them.
It is through this gratification for material wealth that kinsmen feel so indebted to fighting for
their lord. Wiglaf illustrates this concept when he remembers the bountiful gifts bestowed upon
him (Beowulf 88) and finds that he could not hold back (Beowulf 88) from his lord s side. Christ
also fulfills this duty of a hero by bestowing many wonderful gifts and treasures upon any man who
will follow Him faithfully. The treasures described in the poem

Effects Of Children s Television On Language Development...
Nelson and Co. reported that children between the ages of two and five watched television on
average 32 hours a week an eight year high. Parents opinions on their children s television viewing
has contributed to this upward trend. In 2014, the Joan Ganz Cooney Center surveyed 1,557
parents of children between the ages of 2 and 10; they found that 44% of parents believed that
children s television enhanced learning. In addition, the center reported that 78% of parents of
children between the ages of two and five believed that educational television improved their
children s language and cognitive development. The burgeoning years of language development are
not only capricious and vulnerable in nature, but they are also easily influenced by external factors.
Therefore, it is imperative to evaluate the effects of children s television on language development.
Children s television negatively impacts language development because it impedes word
acquisition, delays language acquisitionand negatively affects literacy outcomes. Educational
television negatively impacts language development because it hampers vocabulary acquisition.
Vocabulary acquisition is characterized by an infant s first words and word spurt (i.e., the rapid
growth in a child s vocabulary). Zimmerman, Christakis and Meltzoff (2007) investigated the
relationship between media exposure and language development in children under two years of age.

Cultural Aspects Of Sexy Salsa Dance
As different groups of people move from one geographic location to another, they bring various
aspects of their heritage with them, including the dance forms characteristic of their culture. While
in a new location, these cultural aspects can serve to unify people of a common ethnicity, giving
them a physical expression of their collective identity. On the other hand, when a minority group of
people practices its danceforms in a new geographic location, dominant groups of people often
adopt them. Failing to understand the social significance and original meanings of such dances,
the majority group appropriates several aspects of the dance forms while changing other aspects
in order to make them fit better within its cultural ideologies. In this way, cultural appropriation
of dance forms dissolves some of their original cultural meanings, as is exemplified by the
transmission of salsa dance from a Latin American social dance to a Western ballroom dance,
changing its nature from an expression of cultural unity to an exotic experience. Performed
primarily in social dance clubs, salsa is a fluid and dynamic dance. The movement of the dancers
originates from their hips, which move constantly throughout the dance (Sexy Salsa Dancing). This
in turn leads to the dancers having a dynamic and flexible spine, weight shifts propelled by core
body movement often resulting in weight suspended between the feet, [and] flexed knees and a
lower center of gravity (Malnig 304). The

Codon Diagrams For Dna
Proteins are built inside of cells using DNA. DNA is located in the nucleus of ever eukaryotic cell
and is stored in chromosomes. DNA starts out all messy like a bowl of spaghetti, but then begin to
tighten up and form chromosomes.
Transcription
Transcription is the process of making the first working copy of the DNA, known as the mRNA.
This is actually a very smart Idea. Would you want to give out your only copy of a super rare
comic, or give someone a copy of it? The choice is obvious. Polymerase are used to make mRNA.
In order to make the protein, it will have to be sent outside of the nucleus to the ribosomes. The

This time we will actually be making proteins. mRNA is turned into amino acids for making
proteins. The tRNA helps transfer these protein making amino acids from the cytoplasm to the
ribosomes, or construction sites. The anticodon, only found on tRNA not mRNA, matches and
connects to the 3 end of the amino acid. There the large and small ribosomal sub units start to
prepare and make proteins. The A site is where the molecule is added. P site is where the protein
is added. E site is where the used molecule exits. Then the ribose reads the mRNA one codon at a
time until it reaches the end. This information is stored so that it has the information on how to

Anglo-Saxon Poems The Seafarer And The Wife s Lament
Anglo Saxon poems revolved around the threat of exile. The writings reflected the fear that
many faced when exile threatened them. The Seafarer, The Wanderer, and The Wife s Lament,
each have a source of Anglo Saxon anxiety of exile. This shows up in their writings and their
emotions. Anglo Saxon concepts of exile include the loss of a remembered home, it could be
forced upon or chosen, and it can be used as a punishment; because Anglo Saxons believe in
kinsmanship. Along with the belief of kinsmanship came the belief that one should be physically
and mentally strong. Anglo Saxons feared to be exiled and this was shown within many Anglo
Saxon poems. This was seen as a punishment. After exile a Anglo Saxon would feel lonely and lost.

The Ethics Of Designer Babies
Clara Johnson Prof. Sara Clark English Composition Essay #4 The Ethics of Designer Babies As
we stand in the world today, we as humans have never been more technologically advanced or
scientifically intelligent. We have the ability to explore outer space and the depths of the oceans.
We are even in the process of developing organs using 3D printing technology. But there is a limit
to the extent of advancements that humankind can reach before some begin to pose dangers to
humanity or become unethical. Currently, technology is being developed to expand the procedure
of in vitro fertilization to genetically modify embryos. The products of this engineering are
commonly known as designer babies . This technology, when fully developed, would grant parents
the opportunity to select against possibly life threatening or altering conditions such as cystic
fibrosis, schizophrenia and Alzheimer s. Using this technology, parents would also be able to
make extensive selections regarding their baby s gender, physical characteristics, and possibly
even personality traits and talents. While it is positive advancement to be able to select against life
threatening diseases, the creation of an a la carte baby is unethical and crosses the line between
positive sociological developments and immoral manipulations of nature for many reasons. Genetic

now, you must have come across contradictory opinions and judgments about both swimming and

Swimmers using paddles end up exerting too much pressure on their rotator cuff muscles as well as
the triceps. Another disadvantage of practicing with the paddles is that when you stop using them,
you are most likely to swing off right at the back of the set. So, the lesser you use paddles, the
better you are as a swimmer. Consult your expert and learn about alternative stroke styles and
techniques in order to improve your ability of pulling in the waters.
Kicking Does Not Help in Forward Propulsion
This is perhaps the greatest misconception about swimming techniques that have become popular.
The importance of kicks often remains unrecognized by the swimmers. The reality is just the
opposite. Legs help in propelling ahead just as much as the arms do. In fact, swimming experts
with years of coaching are of the opinion that the faster you kick, the faster you are in the waters.

The Symbolism of the Conch
For centuries philosophers, have debated the question of whether man is naturally evil. William
Golding poses this question in his novel Lord of the Flies. Set on a tropical island during World
War II, the novel begins when schoolboys from Great Britain are being flown to safety and their
plane is shot down. No adults survive, and the boys are left to control themselves and get rescued.
The boys find a conch, which is a symbol of power and authority to whoever has it in his
possession. William Golding uses symbolism in the form of the conch to represent the concept of
society. Throughout the course of the novel, the boys developing relationship with the conch ...

When the boys first start a fire on top of the mountain, Piggy holds the conch and attempts to
speak. But Jack scolds him by saying, The conch doesn t count on top of the mountain, so you
shut up (Golding 39). Boys like Jack begin to place restrictions on the conch and lose respect for
it and for one another. Then one day at an assembly, Jack places even less importance on the
conch excluding more of the boys and weakening the equal order and authority that the conch
provides. Jack says, We don t need the conch anymore. We know who ought to say things...It s
time some people knew they ve got to keep quiet and leave deciding things to the rest of us
(Golding 92). Jack s statement here clearly connects the end of the conch to a change in the social
order. Jack is slowly becoming a power hungry dictator, and the orderly influence of the conch is
replaced by man s evil desires. In the end, the conch loses significance to all but Piggy, and most
of the boys turn into evil savages. Piggy tells Ralph to call an assembly, and Ralph only laughs.
Finally, after Piggy glasses are stolen, Piggy tells Ralph, Blow the conch, blow as loud as you
can. The forest echoed; and birds lifted, crying out of the treetops, as on that first morning ages
ago (Golding 154). Piggy believes that the authority of the conch will once again bring the boys
together, but only four boys meet in this assembly. The rest have joined Jack s savage tribe.

The Basic Achievements Of The Human Race
The language is one of the fundamental achievements of the human race. Its role in the
appropriation of culture and incorporation of the individual to society, is a key instrument of the
educational process. Its essence is to express ideas, needs, experiences and feelings through the
written and spoken word, gestures, attitudes and behaviors. It is precisely through languagethat the
child is inserted in the world and they are different from it. As in development go by an individual
and affective function to fulfil an eminently social and cognitive function. Through both oral and
written language, the children can express their feelings and explain their reactions to others, know
different points of view and learn values and norms. They can also direct and reorganize their
thoughts, control their behavior. Thus, favoring an increasingly conscious learning.
If we stop to observe young children, we will realize that their behavior is guided by curiosity. They
want to discover everything that surrounds them. Children are like sponges that absorbing all the
information that they receive and will accompany them for the rest of their life. As teachers, a
strategy that can be used to promote the skills that will help them to build a good foundation for the
communication and language, is to be aware of items that capture their curiosity, attention, and to
syntonize with them (Promote the language according to the interests of the child). Both parents

Diagnosis Of Benign Scrotal Surgical Specimens
Abstract
Purpose: We recently demonstrated that pathologic analysis of benign scrotal surgical specimens
may be unnecessarily increasing costs of patient care. Adult circumcision specimens may also
routinely be sent for pathological analysis even when penile cancer is not suspected, increasing
costs with little benefit. To assess the utility of foreskinpathology analysis, we evaluated the
outcomes and the costs of this practice in patients where penile cancer was not suspected.
Materials and Methods: All adult patients who underwent circumcision between January 2000 and
August 2013 at a single institution were evaluated by retrospective chart review. Cases of
suspected penile cancer (n=6) were excluded. We identified cases where foreskin specimens were
sent for pathological analysis and reviewed pathology reports. Our Department of Pathology
estimated the cost for evaluation of specimens at $311 per case.
Results: A total of 147 circumcisions were performed in patients with no suspicious findings.
Pathologic analysis was obtained in 69% (101/147) of the cases. Inflammation (58%) was the most
common finding. One unsuspected instance of squamous cell carcinoma (Tis) was identified in a
patient with HIV (1/147=0.7%). The overall cost of pathology analysis in this study was $31,411.
Conclusions: In individuals without predisposing immunodeficiency and where cancer was not
suspected, we found that pathology analysis of circumcision specimens identified no additional

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities
Many students at all levels of education are involved in extracurricular activities they are a core part
of the educational experience. But,are they helpful or harmful to students education. To further look
at this issue my group and I decided to reasearch this topic to find out if there was a correlation
between extracurricular activites and student success. Going into this topic our hypothesis was.If a
student participates in extracurricular activities then the student is more likely to succeed in school.
To gather data we created a survey. This survey included five questions, three strongly agree to
strongly disagree, one yes/no question, and one multiple choice question. We surveyed 44 students
both male and female students grades ninth to eleventh as we felt that in these grades students
would be most involved in extracurricular activities.
The first question on the survey was. Do you participate in extracurricular activities? Which from
the people surveyed was a unanimous yes. This was expected due to the sheer number of people
who participate in extracurricular activities as well as the variety of extracurricular activities.
Question two. How much time a day do you speand participating in extracurricular activites? For
this question in general both males and females from all the grades on average said three to four
hours which was fairly expected as three to four hours is a long amount of time but not long as the
other choice five to six hours or as short as one to two

Indigenous People In Canada
Introduction It is very difficult to define indigenous people. No philosopher has invented a holistic
definition of these people of the world. However, they are those people too impoverished in all
societies worldwide, reorganized by their respective societies as indigenous natives, are identified
with the pre and post colonial continuity, having links with historical kingdoms and live around
natural resources with a peculiar political, economic and social set up. Over seventy nations of this
world habit indigenous people estimated to be 370 millions. What is so important is that they a

Mental health or disorders Mental and health disorders also give a measure of hospital
management for the mentally indigenous people. Statistics show that for the period 2005 2006,
health officials registered a high number of mentally sick patients of this kind in Australia.
(Australian institute of Health and welfare and australian Bureau of statistics, 2008, p. P.111).
Majority of them had psychoactive problems at 5:3 ratios for both male and female respectively,
some of which were self induced. In Canada, the situation is caused by induced and self imposed
racial discrimination. For all these reasons, the United Nations argued countries to avoid racial
discrimination by promoting equality in the provision of health services and affirmative action in
indigenous communities. (United Nations Development Program (UNDP) , 2000, P.10). Life
expectancy In Australia, the life expectancy at birth for the males had reduced and health
authorities expressed the desire to improve it. Based on statistics for 2005 2007, males
expectancy was 67.2 years showing a drop by 11.5 years for non indigenous people. For females,
the standing is 72.9 years below non indigenous people by 9.7 years. From 1996 2001, the male to
female ratio was at59.4:64.8 years. This meant that the Australian government had taken up

The Female Role Of Women In Shakespeare s Othello
In the play Othello written by William Shakespeare, we see not only the main male character
leads. But we also see the female characters, Desdemona, Emilia, and Bianca. These three women
were portrayed in ways that showed them being inferior to the other male roles as well as society
during the Elizabethan Era. But Shakespeare made each of these individual ladies characteristics
quite unique to one another having the traits of a feminist. Even though in the play we read how
the male characters did somewhat control them and made them look weak compared to them, there
were moments where Desdemona, Emilia and Bianca stood up for themselves.
In Othello Shakespeare portrays the main three female characters as being quite inferior to the other
male characters such as Othello himself, Iago and Casto. Because during that time of which
Shakespeare was writing these plays in the Elizabethan era. Society was in which religion was as at
the very most top and after was men being the second part of the social ladder and later come
women and rule justified women s subordination as the natural order because women were thought
to be physiologically and psychologically inferior to men women were expected to be silent,
chaste, and obedient to their husbands, fathers, brothers. Even education during the Elizabethan era
was only for smart men, and not for women, the women were only allowed to work as cleaners and
being mothers. Which makes them inferior to the male sex, we see this in

Facing The Changing Of Enterprise External Environment
Facing the changing of enterprise external environment, it asks for managers should stand at the
height of strategic management to makes an overall plan for the development of the enterprise. The
Balanced Scorecard (BSC) has great advantages in the link of enterprise strategy and performance
management. It covers strategic areas, and includes human resource management. However, it has
many shortages and theoretical defect.
Recent research (Rui Z and Ming J, 2001) argued that most research on performance evaluation tend
to be more attention the analysis of some traditional index in China. Although these traditional
index which involved in BSC can reflect historical outstanding achievement to some extent, but it
can not fully reflected the healthy situation for running and real reasons for developing. The new
performance measurement was designed on the basis of original BSC which will add some
dimensions to improve earning growth and promote enterprise long term stable development.

The Impact Of African Culture On The Brazilian Culture
Introduction:
Throughout the years of its findings and growth in Brazil, the Brazilian culture was influenced by
different cultures. It has been swayed by the African, Portuguese, Native American, and other
culture that did not make much effect. The Brazilian culture has been influenced in various ways.
Before the abolishment, African slaves were migrated from Africa to the New World , about forty
percent of the Africans from the slave trade were migrated to Brazil, with the total of about four
million African slaves. Afro Brazilians at that time were born in Brazil but still has a connection to
the African ancestry. They were imprisoned at the fazendas (farms) and they created their own
culture that was influenced by the African culture. Throughout the centuries, the African culture
grew more and more as the plantations continued to thrive not until that African slave were found
in every economic activity in Brazil. In the year of 1888, slavery was abolished and after that, the
African culture helped the increasement of the Brazilian empire with its own different ways. The
aftermath of slavery influenced the Brazilian culture with things such as their cuisine, herbal
medication, language, music, dance, fighting skills, and much more. After slavery went into
oblivion, racism was still going around the whole country, but as years went by all of the races
came together as a whole and created a nation. The spread of slaves after abolishment increased the

Bilingual And Bilingualism
The world is unique and big. There are many different states, countries, and cities. Countries can
have a lot in common like relationships, food, and education. Countries can also have a lot of
differences like religions, beliefs, and languages. Languages may vary but is also very important in
communication and understanding. A huge epidemic that is becoming more common is
bilingualism also known as bilingual. Languageis a cognitive function that takes place in the brain,
bilingualism can improve brain function.
Broca s and Wernicke s area is located in the left hemisphere. Broca is responsible for the
muscles involved in word pronunciation within the frontal lobe. Wernicke is located in the
temporal lobe and is associated with a person s language compensation. Brain imaging MRI
studies have been conducted to view the activity of the brain during speech and hearing. Studies
that heard their native language being their first or primary language showed activation in the left
hemisphere as according to Broca s and Wernicke s area. People who knew American Sign
Language (ASL) or a second language had greater activity in the right hemisphere and sometimes
even the left and the right (Wilson, J., 2013). Children develop language according to an invariant
sequence of steps or stages (Shriner Shriner, 2014, 6.2 Infants par 2). At 12 months an infant will
begin echolalia and intonation then evolving to a vocabulary with over thirty words by 24 months.

Raising The Minimum Wage
According to the Wall Street Journal, more than one half of the people earning the minimum
wage are from 16 to 24 years of age. This statistic clearly shows that most of the people in
America making minimum wage are young adult that just got out of high school or college and
are trying to find work experience. Why should a low skilled young adult with no work
experience make as much as a teacher? They are doing a job that any other low skilled human
could do. Jobs making the minimum wageshould not be considered to be a career, they should be a
stepping stone towards your future career. The current federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour and
the state minimum wage is $8.10 an hour. An increase in the minimum living wage in the United
Stateswill ultimately result in increased unemployment, increased prices for goods and services,
and essentially becoming ineffective at reducing poverty. Increased unemployment is just one
of the negative effects of increasing the minimum wage. When employers are forced to pay it s
employees more money every week it requires them to find ways to pay for these wage
increases. One unfortunate way these employers will will pay for these wage increases is by
laying off more employees, and requiring the employees left to do even more work then before.
Most fast food establishments in the United State are typically already understaffed, which begs us
to question what would happen if they have even less employees? Many people go to fast food

The Ruling Trend Of Organ Transplants
The Ruling trend of Organ Transplants Needed Ever thought about being a hero? Or how about
a life saver? Well... you can be one by being an organ donor. Twenty two humans die, everyday,
while waiting for their hero; for an organ donor to donate their organs to those in
need.(AmericanTransplantFoundation.org, 2016). Since, the lack of organs is donated, people
are forced to illegally buying on the black market for organs. According to CNN, ... highest
demand is the kidney and black market traffickers are meeting that demand...7,000 kidneys are
obtained illegally every year... Organ trafficking is an illegal, yet thriving trade around the globe (
Pokharel, 2015). The fact is the black market has a tremendous amount of organs and people are
not put on a waiting list when it comes to money and trickery. This has become a ruling trend
since, people are not donating much, nonetheless on the black market there are tons of organs for
sale, this has led to a continuous rise in organ sales, and Organ donationafter cardiac death has
increased the knowledge of whether or not this method is appropriate for recovering the organs
compared to organ sales. First, there are not enough donors as there are needed for those in need of
an organ transplant, however, on the black market there are tons of illegal organs for sale. This
has become a ruling trend as to whether or not this should be illegal or if donors should be

Explain The Structure Of The Heart
The heart is the organ that pumps blood throughout the body and to your lungs. It supplies nutrients
and oxygen to many tissues and removes the waste products and carbon dioxide. The heart has 4
chambers called the left and right atrium and the left and right ventricle. These are separated by
valves that stop the backflow of the bloodthat may occur due to the pumping motion. The other two
valves separate the entrances to the aorta and the pulmonary artery. The right side of your heart
receives de oxygenated blood from the aorta which is bringing the blood from which cells have
extracted nutrients and oxygen. It then pumps this blood to the lungs which releases the carbon
dioxide and replenishes the oxygen. This blood then comes back through

The Effect Of Executive Peak Performance
Research shows successful leaders achieve peak performance, even in uncertain times, because they
are charismatic, conditioned to accomplish, and they get people to take action; yet there is a dark
side that can profoundly affect those closest to them.
Peak performance is a superior level of functioning. Business leaders who achieve peak performance
have integrated sustained accomplishment in their personalities. The individual becomes fully
absorbed and focused, whether dealing with a task or another person and yet continues to maintain
a strong sense of self. The interplay between action and behavior creates an unrestrained flow
resulting in peak performance (Privette, 1999).
The impact of executive peak performance produces a host of tangible results from creating greater
organizational efficiency to improving profitability, even in times of adversity. We will learn these
kinds of results have their roots in behavioral psychology. Additionally, research has proven that
when charisma is added to the mix, achievement skyrockets. However, there is a dark side to
charisma that can and does produce negative impacts on others. We will examine these impacts, as
well as what effective leaders can do to ensure they lead responsibly allowing those around them to
maintain a heathy sense of self. As to what drives leaders, we must first look at what motivates
people in general. For this, we turn to one of the most widely recognized experts on human
motivation,

Combined approach. Once the data from both the quantitative component and qualitative
component had been summarized, the two sets of results were compared. The pre assessment
quantitative and qualitative data sets were reviewed to look for convergence. The two post
assessment data sets were similarly reviewed. The changes from pre to post assessment were
reviewed together to look for similarities, differences, anomalies, and possible future areas of study.
Additionally, the data as a whole was considered to determine what descriptive narrative it implied.
Differences. The original research design underwent some changes to adapt to the changing
situation with the organization.
Participant demographics. The class was designed based on having a larger percentage of internally
promoted employees in class. While the majority of new managers in class were internal
promotions, they were not the majority of the overall class population, due to a couple unexpected
non manager participants. This likely skewed the results, due to both the data gathered from the
unexpected participants and to the change in experience the target participants had, having non
target population members in attendance.
Additionally, a larger participant group was anticipated overall. Due to scheduling conflicts
(specifically summer vacations), and to an unexpected slowdown in promotions and hires, two
scheduled classes were cancelled and the overall participant number dropped to less than half of

Sources of Conflict BetweenPalestine and Israel
The conflict between Palestine and Israel stems from disagreements about the land, differences in
the opinions of historical change of boundaries, differences in religion and also disagreements
among international actors that have influenced how the conflict has played out since the
boundaries of Israel were drawn up after World War II.
This paper will focus on the armed conflict between Palestine, specifically the Hamas backed Gaza
strip and the state of Israel that has led to the loss of many lives on both sides, while at the same
time, created tensions between state actors that make the idea of this conflict being eventually
resolved almost impossible unless there is some major change in the internal and external
environment. The armed conflict that the paper describes is between Hamas which is viewed as
a Islamist terrorist group by Israel, the United States and several other countries with their ultimate
goal being winning back the land that they claim to be theirs and also turning Palestine into an
Islamic fundamentalist state. On the other hand, the state of Israel defines itself as a Jewish and
Democratic State, with 75% of their population being Jewish which would make it a Jewish
majority state. Israel also governs itself on the Basic Laws of Israel, which include the Israeli
nationality law that in effect grants the right to all Jewish people the right to return to Israel and

Thyroid Gland ( Tg )
Introduction
Thyroid gland (TG) secretes thyroxin and triiodothyronine (Garber et al., 2012). Its main
function is to make hormones and main job is to produce hormones T4 and T3 (Mortimer,
2011). To do this the human TG has to take a form of iodine from the bloodstream into the human
TG (Garber et al., 2012). This substance then undergoes a numerous of different chemical
reactions which resulted in the production of T3 and T4 (Mortimer, 2011). In order to make T4
and T3, TG needs iodine, a substance found in the food, both T4 and T3 contains four atoms of
iodine. T4 is then converted to T3 through the cells and tissues of the human body. More active
hormone is T3, because it influences the activity of all the cells and tissues of the human body.
Thyroid is controlled by hormones produced by hypothalamus and pituitary. Besides, these secreted
hormones in the TG are essential for normal growth, better development and metabolic function.
Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) stimulates the pituitary to secrete TSH which in turn acts on
the TG to cause synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones. Altered thyroid function is common
and respectively the release of TRH and TSH enable feedback of the hormones on the pituitary and
hypothalamus to inhibit synthesis. For example, a prevalence of hypothyroidism has been reported
in the literature that up to ten percentage in the general population is possible expected to occur.
It is an essential to have accurate assays of thyroid

When attempting to deceive another person, the characters must be able to understand the
consequences one may face when manipulating another through deceit. Two plays that strongly

Desmond Doss As A Hero Essay
A man named Patrick Stewart once said: There are times, sir, when men of good conscience

orders to pick up his rifle and kill to serve his country during WWII. He decided to serve his
country in a different way, to serve as a medic and to save lives instead of taking them and never
to pick up a weapon to violate God s commandment that thou shalt not kill. And even without a
weapon Desmond was able to save 75 men, and I admire Desmond for holding to his beliefs and
being a true hero. Desmond could have easily retreated down the face of Hacksaw Ridge with the

Women s Portrayal Of Women
It is strange how one director can convey two entirely different depictions of women. Due to the
time period in which Hitchcock filmed Vertigo and Psycho, women had limited capability in
regards to what they could do in a film. Women could not be action heroes; in fact they were
often depicted as damsels in distress. The easiest answer to this sort of prejudice is that it was a
reflection of the culture of the 50s and 60s. Although this is partially true, it does not excuse the
fact that male directors made misogynistic choices that could have been remedied without being
considered radical or societally unacceptable. The inconsistencies in Hitchcock s portrayal of
women reveals this much, as shown by a study in the narrative, mise en scД—ne, and
cinematography of Vertigo (1958) and Psycho (1960).
The main female character in Vertigo is two people, in a sense, but even this duplicity does not help
her gain control in the film s narrative. Judy Barton is the woman s real name, but she spends the
first half of the movie charading as Madeleine Elster. One of the first scenes in which we see
Madeleine is when John is stalking her at the request of Gavin Elster. The cinematography of this
sequence reveals a lot about their relationship and how John objectifies Madeleine and Judy.
As John follows her from the flower store to the graveyard to the museum, Madeleine is almost
always shown from afar, in long shots, and almost never takes up the whole frame. This is all

The Discovery Of The Polio Vaccine
Ashley Anderson
Professor Giunta

23 April 2017
In this term paper the discovery of the Polio vaccine will be discussed and broken down into
deeper thought on why and how it was discovered. Poliomyelitis is an infectious disease that
reached epidemic levels in the mid twentieth century. People that were unfortunate to receive this
disease faced hardships including fevers, sore throat and vomiting(Allaby). These are just
symptoms but Polio can be a vicious disease leaving their patients paralyzed. The majority of
people who are diagnosed with Polio don t get paralyzed right away or die suddenly. The symptoms
are very similar to any other sickness and people who are newly diagnosed do not ... Show more

These other scientists include Thomas Francis, Jr. who Salk worked with for a year in
microbiology and resulting in Francis isolating two types of influenza virus(Allaby).
Microbiologist John Enders, virologists Frederick Robbins and Thomas Weller all influenced
Salk to find the breakthrough he so desperately needed. Both virologists grown viruses in tissue
taken from a living organism using penicillin to keep the object free from infection(Allaby). This
was a breakthrough for Salk because he copied their procedure and used viruses from the spinal
cords of polio patients and grew them in another object to test on(Allaby). Jonas Silk has always
been involved with medical science throughout his entire life. He attends and graduates in surgery
from the City College of New York. In 1938 when Salk works with Thomas Francis he was
introduced to finding the influenza vaccine(Allaby). This is the event that made Salk interested in
finding out more about viruses and urges him to want to find a vaccine for a disease. Salk ended
up working on a influenza vaccine at the Virus Research Unit of the University of Michigan
School of Public Health(Allaby). From working on the influenza vaccine Salk had the opportunity
to become the head of the virus research laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh in
1947(Allaby). This is where and when Salk decides to begin his work on the polio vaccine. The
testing Salk produced with the Polio virus in the spinal cords, they revealed that there

The Use of Coal for Power Should Continue
The development of science and technology has led to people considering using alternative fuels to
generate electricity. There are many alternative fuels that can generate electricity, such as natural
gas, nuclear energy, wind energy, hydraulic power and so on (Fossil Fuels Used to Generate
Electricity Power Plant Emissions of North America). According to the statistics by the U.S. Energy
Information Administration in 2009, the usage of coalwas still the largest source to generate the
power. Sources of electricity in the United States were generated by 44.9% of coal, 20.3% of
nuclear, 23.4% of natural gas, 1% of petroleum, 6.9% of hydroelectric conventional and 3.6% of
others (Electric Power Monthly with Data for February 2014). Coal... Show more content on

In 1930s the thermal power by coal, was becoming an unprecedented era of great development.
In the mid of 1950s the capacity of thermal power generating units improved from 200 to 300
megawatt to 600 megawatt. In 1973, the largest thermal power was 1300 MW. At the end of the
1980s, the world s largest thermal power plant with a capacity of 4400 MW was Japan s
Kagoshima thermal power plant. However, people found that the bigger the unit, the lower the
reliability and the availability. Thus in the early 1990s, the thermal power became stable at the
unit capacity of 300 to 700 MW. (Barrow, 126)
Nowadays, coal is still one of the greatest used energy to generate power in so many countries.
Using coal in electricity generation is 93% in South African, 87% in Poland, 79% in China, 78%
in Australia, 45% in USA, 41% in Germany, 58% in Israel etc. (Coal Electricity) From the data
above, even the developed countries use coal to generate power as the main source. In many
developed countries, energy generation is still based on coal as a long term source. In recent
years, although there is an increasing number of equipment using gas and wind to generate the
power, it is still lower than the proportion of coal fired power generation. The reason why most
countries choose coal as a main source to generate electricity, is that there are many advantages in
using coal to generate electricity. First of all, coal is the

Acquiring an education and the act of being educated in a school are two enormously different

Nonetheless, European settlers, particularly during Colonization, made the assumption that their
culture, religious beliefs, and educational systems was superior; and, as part of the process
towards colonizing the land that is now Canada, this group of European people attempted to
abolish First Nations Peoples culture. As Bonita Lawrence reveals in her overview of Aboriginal
people in North America, the colonial act of establishing legal definitions of Indianess . . . enabled
the Canadian government to remove a significant sector of Native people from the land, and in
doing so, colonization inevitably removed a sizable number of Aboriginal people from their culture
(7). These historic Colonial events irreversibly changed Aboriginal culture. Aside from the glaring
fact that Aboriginal children were expected to conform and attend a colonial educational system,
irrespective of their cultural education, status Aboriginal children, during Colonialism, essentially

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Virtual Teams
Do virtual teams experience the stages of development?
When Bruce Tuckman presented his initial theory for group development in 1965, he couldn t
have possibly imagined a world dotted with virtual teams. Tuckman s framework for evaluating
teamwork using the stages of forming, storming, norming and performing was created after a
study of a variety of face to face teams. As a testimony to his work, it is generally accepted that
Tuckman s premise about groups experiencing definitive stages toward formation, also applies to
groups of people who don t share physical space and span time zones. There is some thought that
the storming stage is integrated into the other stages or skipped entirely. (Berry, 2011). The lack of
defined storming might be due to virtual teams having more of a task versus personality orientation
and having a well defined communication plan also serving as a proactive conflict management
measure.
Also, there is a shared opinion that well planned formation activities are critically important for a
virtual team. At the top of the list is training on the technology and related communication systems
to be used. (Berry, 2011).
The importance of trust in any team
There is agreement across the board of teamwork experts on the importance of trust in a team
setting. If a team wants to succeed, the presence of trust must be welcomed, nurtured and
maintained. There is also a majority shared opinion that trust building takes time, but it can be

Nelson-Atkins Museum Of Modern Art Analysis
On a trip to the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, my boyfriend, David, and I strolled through the
museum while I, being an art history major, recited to him all that I knew about certain pieces.
We observed sculptures by Auguste Rodin, works painted by Georgia O Keeffe, and busts of
Roman leaders. David was enjoying all the artwork until we reached the Contemporary art
gallery upon where viewing Mark Rothko s Untitled No. 11 made in 1963, he shook his head in
anger at what he thought was a painting far from a masterpiece. His comment was one I m sure

Rothko s 1961 painting Orange, Red, Yellow was bought for $86.9 million in May 2012 at

Endangerment of African Elephants
The official title of the world s largest land dwelling animal belongs to the elephant, more
specifically, the African elephant. Elephants also are some of the most deadly animals, which
therefore increase the danger of human and elephant interactions. The more human interactions
occur, the more deaths result, whether it is the elephantor the human who dies. These animals,
surprisingly, are socially apt; their trunk is used for more than just eating and drinking it is used
for socializing. They are complex animals who live in large familial herds females stay with their
family throughout their entire lives while males only stay for approximately fifteen years (Elephant
Protection, 1). Elephantspossess a great memory and only forget what they learn occasionally and
rarely, giving way to the an elephant never forgets saying (Maloiy, 178c). Despite how many
people use the beloved saying, elephants may not be around much longer due to the shortened life
span and increased mortality rates. Due to their incisor teeth, tusks, being extremely expensive and
profitable, they are being murdered for the wealth they carry. This, coupled with the life span
shortening because of malicious treatments and brutal practices reduces the life span of the African
elephant from 56 to 16 years and the Asian elephantfrom 42 to 19 years (Elephant Protection, 1).
According to what the statistics show, elephants may be following their ancestors to their death. Of

The Pros And Cons Of Intellectual Property
Intellectual property as is perceived globally has been in existence as long humankind. However,
the rights and laws pertaining to intellectual property have been recognised and afforded protection
only in recent years. This can be attributed to the global shift from the bygone industrial revolution
to the ongoing knowledge revolution. The developed nations of the world appraised that
knowledge in its various forms is what is more profitable in terms of trade and development
leading to what is known as the knowledge economy . Rapid advancements in technology and the
requirement to stay ahead of global competitors lead to intellectual propertybecoming a keystone to
country, tying its survival in global markets to the protection for intellectual property afforded by it.
The several forms in which intellectual property manifests itself had led to the introduction of
copyrights, patents, trademarks, and various other mechanisms by which protection is ensured.
The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), established by the WIPO Convention of
1967, states that Intellectual Property refers to creations of the mind: inventions; literary and
artistic works; and symbols, names, and images used in commerce .
This indicates that, as opposed to corporeal property, that consists of personal and real property

Cultural Competency For A Nursing
Cultural competency is extremely indispensable in nursing practice so that nurses can provide
optimal care for patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Therefore, insufficient knowledge and
skills of cultural competency has continued to increase racial and ethnic inequalities in healthcare

  • 2. Kant Disinterestedness Reflective judgement requires taking into account Kant s four factors of beauty: quality, necessity, universality, and purposiveness. When applying judgement to an object, a person must first inspect the quality of the object. Whether or not an object is able to instill the feeling of pleasure or displeasure on the observer. However, the pleasure one acquires from an object must not be limited to the observer s personal desires. That is, he must not secretly crave the objects. By suppressing one s desire for an object, the observer perverts his judgement of the object. Consequently, in the section entitled Second Moment , Kant believes that a person judges beauty through the unbiased concept of disinterestedness. Kant refers to disinterestedness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kant believes that, when we admire an object, we do so because we are attracted to why we find the object stimulating. The problem lies in the fact that we cannot locate the source of the object s purpose. That is to say, the object draws the observer to it, stimulates the senses, and fills the observer with a yearning to inquire more about the object. For Kant, in order for an object to be beautiful, we must recognize that the object has a purpose. However, we cannot limit the purpose of the object based on its utility. These four factors are what Kant believes validates his theory that judgements of beauty are both subjective and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sailing with Vespucci Sailing with Vespucci If I were to ride aboard the ship in the age of exploration, I would choose Amerigo Vespucci. Amerigo was born in Florence, Italy on March 9, 1951. He was one of the first Europeans to believe that the land Columbus had discovered was not the Indies, but rather an entirely new continent. Because of this, the new land would be called the Americas, a feminized version of Amerigo. Amerigo was born in Florence, Italy, his parents, Ser Nastagio and Lisabetta Mini, were friends of the Medici, a very wealthy family that controlled Italy from the 1400s to 1737. When Amerigo was in his early 20s his uncle, who was the ambassador to France, sent him on a brief diplomatic mission to Paris. This trip probably sparked his fascination of travel. After that Amerigo held a number of different jobs that would teach him valuable lessons that would benefit later in his life. These included small business endeavors, being a banker, and even being involved with merchants who would supply Columbus journey across the Atlantic. On one occasion he even got to sit down with Columbus and talk to him about the new world. This conversation most likely inspired his adventures to the new world. So when Amerigo was in his 40s he decided to abandon his failing business venture and become an explorer, funded by queen Isabella of Spain, before he was too old to. It is believed that Amerigo left for his first voyage on May 10, 1497 from the port of Cadiz with a fleet of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Chabadoufe s Memoiry Analysis Almost every commonplace scenario has a polite phrase that goes alongside it. When someone sneezes, a scattered symphony of Bless you s follows soon afterward. When you receive a gift of kindness, you would respond, Thank you. When accepting another s gratitude, you would say, You re welcome. But what do you say when someone coughs? By normal people s standards, the answer to that question is nothing at all. After somebody coughs, not a single word is uttered, leaving an empty silence which desires to be filled with something. A while back in middle school, it was this palpable feeling of emptiness which drove me to ponder the nature of this situation. How could there be no phrase to respond to a cough? I soon resolved to come up with my own word or words to use in response of someone else coughing. I thought on possibilities for weeks, but I couldn t seem to find the right sounds to use. Following a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chabadoufe is more than just an automatic response to the sound of a cough. It holds more meaning than that. When saying chabadoufe, you not only acknowledge that someone has coughed, but also express concern or care for the individual that coughed. It is almost akin to asking, Are you okay? since coughing feels very unpleasant and usually is a sign of an even more unpleasant occurrence such as having a cold, sore throat, or something stuck in your throat. With all these thoughts floating around in my head, I decided it would be wrong to share my first response with my friend. Instead of telling her the original generic response I had planned, I said, Saying chabadoufe is a word used to both acknowledge that a person has coughed and display concern over that person s well being and possible malady. After hearing that, she looked at me a bit strangely, but I was content in providing her with a truthful and complete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare and Contrast Happines in Candide, Rasselas, Essay... Happiness Throughout history humankind has been trying to define happiness. What is it exactly and how do we obtain it? We always think that happiness is a place to be or a destination and technically, that is the main premise or goal of our lives; to obtain happiness. So our whole lives go by from the minute were born to the last breath we take in a quest to work hard in order to reach that destination. Naturally, many philosophical writers have jumped on the bandwagon and put in their two cents of their views on the matter of happiness. Alexander Pope talks about the relationship and purpose man has to the universe in An Essay on Man, Voltaire wrote about living in blind optimism with a false notion of happiness in Candide, and Samuel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Or can a part contain the whole? Is the great chain, that draws all to agree, and drawn supports, upheld by God or thee? ( Pope 369) According to Pope, we as humans should learn to simply accept our position in the great chain of being. If we are able to do so, we will be able to successfully live happy lives. Man s place in the chain is below the angels but above beasts. Each element of the chain is only a part, so we as humans are only part of the whole of God s plan. Then we have Voltaire who wrote Candide. Voltaire was one of those people who started questioning life as it was being lived as opposed to Pope who accepted life the way it was. He was not an Atheist because he did believe in a God. Although he believed in God, he had a problem with religion and questioned things written in the Bible, so basically he was a confused individual looking for answers. These questions are what led him to write Candide. In Candide, Voltaire mocked various aspects of religion and the way people viewed life, especially people like Alexander Pope. Candide heavily mocked Pope s views in An Essay on Man. Voltaire as opposed to Pope, realizes that there is evil in the world. At first, Voltaire was a fan of Pope but later abandons such an optimistic view which he formerly believed in, because he realizes that man has suffered through so much misery and hardships that it just did not make sense. He focuses on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Introduction Of Assembly Line Balancing 1. Introduction Assembly line balancing (ALB) issue was initially presented by Bryton and the principal exploratory study was distributed by Salveson. The mechanical production system adjusting issue comprises of appointing undertakings to a requested grouping of stations such that the priority relations among the errands are fulfilled and some execution measure is enhanced. • 7. The Heroic Significance of Christ in The Dream of the Rood... The Heroic Significance of Christ in The Dream of the Rood Incorporating traditional Anglo Saxon beliefs of heroism with the image of Christ on the cross allows the poet of The Dream of the Rood to effectively communicate the benefits of Christianity to pagan warriors. By comparing characteristics, duties, and treatment of heroes in Beowulf and the Battle of Maldon to the depiction of Christ in The Dream of the Rood, it becomes evident that the image of Christ is altered to mirror that of heroic warriors. Through this melding of heroic beliefs and Christianity, the poet of Rood is able to show how Christ can become the ultimate ring giver or Lord. Dominant characteristics of heroes in Beowulf and The Battle of Maldon revolve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Christ depicted in this passage willingly accepts his battle on the cross and because of this act the poet then goes on to describe Christ as a warrior , strong, and stouthearted. Christ is not portrayed as a meek and humble man resigned to his task as savior and lord. Within this portion of the text, he becomes a bold warrior climbing the cross as if going into battle. At the end of the poem, the narrator looks to Christ and the cross for protection. Furthermore, the primary duty of a hero is to provide his kinsmen with great treasure and weaponry. Beowulf fulfills this duty by stating Behold this treasure #8230; that I have been allowed to leave my people #8230; (Beowulf 91) to Wiglaf after defeating the dragon. The warriors in The Battle of Maldon describe their Lord and hero as a treasure giver, and also a ring giver. The warriors in both of these texts reflect on all that their lords or heroes provide for them. It is through this gratification for material wealth that kinsmen feel so indebted to fighting for their lord. Wiglaf illustrates this concept when he remembers the bountiful gifts bestowed upon him (Beowulf 88) and finds that he could not hold back (Beowulf 88) from his lord s side. Christ also fulfills this duty of a hero by bestowing many wonderful gifts and treasures upon any man who will follow Him faithfully. The treasures described in the poem ... • 8. Effects Of Children s Television On Language Development... Nelson and Co. reported that children between the ages of two and five watched television on average 32 hours a week an eight year high. Parents opinions on their children s television viewing has contributed to this upward trend. In 2014, the Joan Ganz Cooney Center surveyed 1,557 parents of children between the ages of 2 and 10; they found that 44% of parents believed that children s television enhanced learning. In addition, the center reported that 78% of parents of children between the ages of two and five believed that educational television improved their children s language and cognitive development. The burgeoning years of language development are not only capricious and vulnerable in nature, but they are also easily influenced by external factors. Therefore, it is imperative to evaluate the effects of children s television on language development. Children s television negatively impacts language development because it impedes word acquisition, delays language acquisitionand negatively affects literacy outcomes. Educational television negatively impacts language development because it hampers vocabulary acquisition. Vocabulary acquisition is characterized by an infant s first words and word spurt (i.e., the rapid growth in a child s vocabulary). Zimmerman, Christakis and Meltzoff (2007) investigated the relationship between media exposure and language development in children under two years of age. 1,008 parents of children between the ages of two months and ... • 10. Cultural Aspects Of Sexy Salsa Dance As different groups of people move from one geographic location to another, they bring various aspects of their heritage with them, including the dance forms characteristic of their culture. While in a new location, these cultural aspects can serve to unify people of a common ethnicity, giving them a physical expression of their collective identity. On the other hand, when a minority group of people practices its danceforms in a new geographic location, dominant groups of people often adopt them. Failing to understand the social significance and original meanings of such dances, the majority group appropriates several aspects of the dance forms while changing other aspects in order to make them fit better within its cultural ideologies. In this way, cultural appropriation of dance forms dissolves some of their original cultural meanings, as is exemplified by the transmission of salsa dance from a Latin American social dance to a Western ballroom dance, changing its nature from an expression of cultural unity to an exotic experience. Performed primarily in social dance clubs, salsa is a fluid and dynamic dance. The movement of the dancers originates from their hips, which move constantly throughout the dance (Sexy Salsa Dancing). This in turn leads to the dancers having a dynamic and flexible spine, weight shifts propelled by core body movement often resulting in weight suspended between the feet, [and] flexed knees and a lower center of gravity (Malnig 304). • 11. Codon Diagrams For Dna Proteins are built inside of cells using DNA. DNA is located in the nucleus of ever eukaryotic cell and is stored in chromosomes. DNA starts out all messy like a bowl of spaghetti, but then begin to tighten up and form chromosomes. Transcription Transcription is the process of making the first working copy of the DNA, known as the mRNA. This is actually a very smart Idea. Would you want to give out your only copy of a super rare comic, or give someone a copy of it? The choice is obvious. Polymerase are used to make mRNA. In order to make the protein, it will have to be sent outside of the nucleus to the ribosomes. The ribosomes are the construction site for building the protein. In sticking with Chargaff s Rule, we have to switch uracil for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This time we will actually be making proteins. mRNA is turned into amino acids for making proteins. The tRNA helps transfer these protein making amino acids from the cytoplasm to the ribosomes, or construction sites. The anticodon, only found on tRNA not mRNA, matches and connects to the 3 end of the amino acid. There the large and small ribosomal sub units start to prepare and make proteins. The A site is where the molecule is added. P site is where the protein is added. E site is where the used molecule exits. Then the ribose reads the mRNA one codon at a time until it reaches the end. We have the ability to explore outer space and the depths of the oceans. We are even in the process of developing organs using 3D printing technology. But there is a limit to the extent of advancements that humankind can reach before some begin to pose dangers to humanity or become unethical. Currently, technology is being developed to expand the procedure of in vitro fertilization to genetically modify embryos. The products of this engineering are commonly known as designer babies . This technology, when fully developed, would grant parents the opportunity to select against possibly life threatening or altering conditions such as cystic fibrosis, schizophrenia and Alzheimer s. Using this technology, parents would also be able to make extensive selections regarding their baby s gender, physical characteristics, and possibly even personality traits and talents. While it is positive advancement to be able to select against life threatening diseases, the creation of an a la carte baby is unethical and crosses the line between positive sociological developments and immoral manipulations of nature for many reasons. In the end, the conch loses significance to all but Piggy, and most of the boys turn into evil savages. Piggy tells Ralph to call an assembly, and Ralph only laughs. Finally, after Piggy glasses are stolen, Piggy tells Ralph, Blow the conch, blow as loud as you can. The forest echoed; and birds lifted, crying out of the treetops, as on that first morning ages ago (Golding 154). Diagnosis Of Benign Scrotal Surgical Specimens Abstract Purpose: We recently demonstrated that pathologic analysis of benign scrotal surgical specimens may be unnecessarily increasing costs of patient care. Adult circumcision specimens may also routinely be sent for pathological analysis even when penile cancer is not suspected, increasing costs with little benefit. To assess the utility of foreskinpathology analysis, we evaluated the outcomes and the costs of this practice in patients where penile cancer was not suspected. Materials and Methods: All adult patients who underwent circumcision between January 2000 and August 2013 at a single institution were evaluated by retrospective chart review. Cases of suspected penile cancer (n=6) were excluded. We identified cases where foreskin specimens were sent for pathological analysis and reviewed pathology reports. Our Department of Pathology estimated the cost for evaluation of specimens at $311 per case. Results: A total of 147 circumcisions were performed in patients with no suspicious findings. Pathologic analysis was obtained in 69% (101/147) of the cases. Inflammation (58%) was the most common finding. One unsuspected instance of squamous cell carcinoma (Tis) was identified in a patient with HIV (1/147=0.7%). The overall cost of pathology analysis in this study was $31,411. Conclusions: In individuals without predisposing immunodeficiency and where cancer was not suspected, we found that pathology analysis of circumcision specimens identified no additional ... • 34. The Effect Of Executive Peak Performance Research shows successful leaders achieve peak performance, even in uncertain times, because they are charismatic, conditioned to accomplish, and they get people to take action; yet there is a dark side that can profoundly affect those closest to them. Peak performance is a superior level of functioning. Business leaders who achieve peak performance have integrated sustained accomplishment in their personalities. The individual becomes fully absorbed and focused, whether dealing with a task or another person and yet continues to maintain a strong sense of self. The interplay between action and behavior creates an unrestrained flow resulting in peak performance (Privette, 1999). The impact of executive peak performance produces a host of tangible results from creating greater organizational efficiency to improving profitability, even in times of adversity. We will learn these kinds of results have their roots in behavioral psychology. Additionally, research has proven that when charisma is added to the mix, achievement skyrockets. However, there is a dark side to charisma that can and does produce negative impacts on others. We will examine these impacts, as well as what effective leaders can do to ensure they lead responsibly allowing those around them to maintain a heathy sense of self. As to what drives leaders, we must first look at what motivates people in general. For this, we turn to one of the most widely recognized experts on human motivation, ... Once the data from both the quantitative component and qualitative component had been summarized, the two sets of results were compared. The pre assessment quantitative and qualitative data sets were reviewed to look for convergence. The two post assessment data sets were similarly reviewed. The changes from pre to post assessment were reviewed together to look for similarities, differences, anomalies, and possible future areas of study. Additionally, the data as a whole was considered to determine what descriptive narrative it implied. Differences. The original research design underwent some changes to adapt to the changing situation with the organization. Participant demographics. The class was designed based on having a larger percentage of internally promoted employees in class. While the majority of new managers in class were internal promotions, they were not the majority of the overall class population, due to a couple unexpected non manager participants. This likely skewed the results, due to both the data gathered from the unexpected participants and to the change in experience the target participants had, having non target population members in attendance. Additionally, a larger participant group was anticipated overall. Due to scheduling conflicts (specifically summer vacations), and to an unexpected slowdown in promotions and hires, two scheduled classes were cancelled and the overall participant number dropped to less than half of what was ... Sources of Conflict BetweenPalestine and Israel The conflict between Palestine and Israel stems from disagreements about the land, differences in the opinions of historical change of boundaries, differences in religion and also disagreements among international actors that have influenced how the conflict has played out since the boundaries of Israel were drawn up after World War II. This paper will focus on the armed conflict between Palestine, specifically the Hamas backed Gaza strip and the state of Israel that has led to the loss of many lives on both sides, while at the same time, created tensions between state actors that make the idea of this conflict being eventually resolved almost impossible unless there is some major change in the internal and external environment. The armed conflict that the paper describes is between Hamas which is viewed as a Islamist terrorist group by Israel, the United States and several other countries with their ultimate goal being winning back the land that they claim to be theirs and also turning Palestine into an Islamic fundamentalist state. On the other hand, the state of Israel defines itself as a Jewish and Democratic State, with 75% of their population being Jewish which would make it a Jewish majority state. • 38. Thyroid Gland ( Tg ) Introduction Thyroid gland (TG) secretes thyroxin and triiodothyronine (Garber et al., 2012). Its main function is to make hormones and main job is to produce hormones T4 and T3 (Mortimer, 2011). To do this the human TG has to take a form of iodine from the bloodstream into the human TG (Garber et al., 2012). This substance then undergoes a numerous of different chemical reactions which resulted in the production of T3 and T4 (Mortimer, 2011). In order to make T4 and T3, TG needs iodine, a substance found in the food, both T4 and T3 contains four atoms of iodine. T4 is then converted to T3 through the cells and tissues of the human body. More active hormone is T3, because it influences the activity of all the cells and tissues of the human body. Thyroid is controlled by hormones produced by hypothalamus and pituitary. Besides, these secreted hormones in the TG are essential for normal growth, better development and metabolic function. Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) stimulates the pituitary to secrete TSH which in turn acts on the TG to cause synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones. Altered thyroid function is common and respectively the release of TRH and TSH enable feedback of the hormones on the pituitary and hypothalamus to inhibit synthesis. For example, a prevalence of hypothyroidism has been reported in the literature that up to ten percentage in the general population is possible expected to occur. It is an essential to have accurate assays of thyroid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Women s Portrayal Of Women It is strange how one director can convey two entirely different depictions of women. Due to the time period in which Hitchcock filmed Vertigo and Psycho, women had limited capability in regards to what they could do in a film. Women could not be action heroes; in fact they were often depicted as damsels in distress. The easiest answer to this sort of prejudice is that it was a reflection of the culture of the 50s and 60s. Although this is partially true, it does not excuse the fact that male directors made misogynistic choices that could have been remedied without being considered radical or societally unacceptable. The inconsistencies in Hitchcock s portrayal of women reveals this much, as shown by a study in the narrative, mise en scД—ne, and cinematography of Vertigo (1958) and Psycho (1960). The main female character in Vertigo is two people, in a sense, but even this duplicity does not help her gain control in the film s narrative. Judy Barton is the woman s real name, but she spends the first half of the movie charading as Madeleine Elster. One of the first scenes in which we see Madeleine is when John is stalking her at the request of Gavin Elster. The cinematography of this sequence reveals a lot about their relationship and how John objectifies Madeleine and Judy. As John follows her from the flower store to the graveyard to the museum, Madeleine is almost always shown from afar, in long shots, and almost never takes up the whole frame. When Bruce Tuckman presented his initial theory for group development in 1965, he couldn t have possibly imagined a world dotted with virtual teams. Tuckman s framework for evaluating teamwork using the stages of forming, storming, norming and performing was created after a study of a variety of face to face teams. As a testimony to his work, it is generally accepted that Tuckman s premise about groups experiencing definitive stages toward formation, also applies to groups of people who don t share physical space and span time zones. There is some thought that the storming stage is integrated into the other stages or skipped entirely. (Berry, 2011). The lack of defined storming might be due to virtual teams having more of a task versus personality orientation and having a well defined communication plan also serving as a proactive conflict management measure. Also, there is a shared opinion that well planned formation activities are critically important for a virtual team. I think that zero sum is a negative perception and it is often possible for people to gain, especially if they collaborate. I often use this technique at home with my children and spouse. If a negotiation turns to a conflict and becomes personal, the sense of fair play (or even getting what I need) then goes out of the window. I had a strong BATNA, taking ...
