Personal Reflection Of Microeconomics
I have gained much respect for Economics as a field of study during this course. Being a political
science major, I can honestly say that there isn t all that much science in many of the topics.
Conversation in political science can be argumentative and normative without concrete reason or
evidence. Economics, on the other hand, is intuitive and backed by research. More refreshingly,
economics simply puts its research out for the world to see, and sure individual economists may
voice their opinions about public policy, but as a field, it is based mainly on positive statements; it
tells it like it is without venturing into how it should be. Economists do have a rough job in a way,
they can t simply do research by conducting regular experiments like altering the nation s monetary
supply or increasing the minimum wage to study the effects on unemployment. It is impressive that
they find a way to use existing data to draw their conclusions. They really make the most out of
what they are given. Additionally, it is nice that assumptions about complex economic topics are
made so even students in basic principles courses can understand the concepts in simple economic
models.
I think that what we learned on market economics is the correct way of thinking about human
interaction and the functioning of markets. Microeconomics offered an interesting, and potentially
more useful, perspective on the market because it essentially told us how our individual decisions
affect the market.

Norse Presence In North America
The reading states that there are three main reasons why some archaeologists believe that the
coin is not genuine historical evidence of the Norse came into contact with Native Americans
almost a thousand years ago. However, the professor states that the coins are genuine evidence
and refutes each of the authors reasons. First, the reading states that the Native American site in
Maine where the coin was discovered is located very far from other sites documenting a Norse
presence in North America. The professor opposes this point by saying that other objects were
found also far away from their orignal site. The professor explains that Native Americans were
travelling for long distances to obtain objects far away from their places. So, the

Nonverbal Expectancy Violation Theory Essay
Expectancy violation theory, which is a communication theory developed from the Nonverbal
expectancy violation model by Judee K. Burgoon, attempts to explain the unexpected behaviors of
individuals while interacting with one another. While communicating, most people often predict or
expect a particular behavioral response, such as making appropriate eye contacts. However, if the
other person s response does not match their expectations, the response can be either be perceived
positively or negatively, depending on the relationship between the people. The theory emphasizes
on an individual s perception of the interaction in certain situation, and because people differ in
their own ways, due to distinctive cultural or personal values, the reactions... Show more content on

For my experiment, I chose to say hi to random individuals while I continuously looked into their
eyes and smiled for an inappropriate amount of time. At first, most of the people I greeted
responded by saying hi back with a smile. However, after prolonging my eye contacts and smiles,
some of the their smiles were replaced by a confused or creeped out look as they look back at
me, while others tried to not maintain eye contact anymore as they walked away rapidly. I was
with my boyfriend when I conducted this experiment, and even though I did not perform the
experiment on him, he too gave me a puzzled look at first and asked what I was doing. But then
after a few attempts of doing this out of the norm behavior, my boyfriend decided to join me,
which made it more of an unexpected behavior for many. Many of the passerby responded in
ways that I mentioned above, while others whispered the words what the heck? and weirdos .
Some laughed and others even decided to stare back at us for a long time with a huge grin on their
faces. After doing this out of the norm behavior, I then tried to catch up and explained to the people

How Did Pi Kill The Flying Fish
In the story Life of Pi by Yann Martel, Pi faces many struggles. One struggle Pi faces is the
trouble of food. He takes his attempts at fishing, with little reward. After many unsuccessful
attempts, Pi is rewarded, but by chance. A school of flying fish leap out of the water, some even
landing in his boat. After Pi kills one of the flying fish, he becomes a different person. Pi
describes that as he is killing the flying fish he had Tears flowing down my cheeks (Martel 88).
He is mortified by having to kill the fish, even if it is to stay alive. He was shy and timid. A little
while later though, Pi tries his hand at fishing one more time for the day. He manages to hook a
great big Dorado, or Mahi Mahi. He yanks it in triumphantly and says

Clock And Bones
Clock and Bones Western civilization in the early 1900 s was plagued with wars. The evolution
of modern art exploded in the 20th century, from Realism to Surrealism. A time in history where
art was a man s world, women finally got their chance to show their true colors. In 1931 with The
Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali (1904 1989) to 1941 with Red Hills and Bones by
Georgia O Keeffe (1887 1986); two important painters of this time period, who styles are night
and day along with their personalities but very similar in their love of landscape and passion for
their work. The Persistence of Memory, often called just clocks, is widely regarded as a Surrealist
masterpiece and is a very famous painting by the Spaniard, Salvador Dali, one of the most enigmatic
artists of the twentieth century. The clocks melting represent the irrelevance of time, and the
oddities found within the painting, like the creature with human eyelashes, exemplifies his
outlandish subject matter Surrealism the principles, ideals, or practice of producing fantastic or
incongruous imagery or effects in art, literature, film, or theater by means of unnatural or irrational
juxtapositions and combinations (Merriam Webster). Observing Dali s The Persistence of Memory

Personal Bias In Research
Facts are statements that are indisputably true. Truthful statements are authentic because they are
widely accepted to be accurate and fit reality. When answering the question given access to the
same facts , how is it possible that there can be disagreements between experts in a discipline? ,
one must consider the definition of an expert. For the sake of this paper I am defining an expert
as someone who excels in their field , and constantly evolves their knowledge as their field
progresses. I believe that disagreements between experts when presented with the same facts, occur
because of bias. Bias is a sway towards one side or view of a situation or statement. Therefore I ask ,
how does someone s personal bias affect their interpretation... Show more content on

Faith is a complete trust in a principal or being without proof of existence. Religious experts are
often those who lead organized worship such as bishops, rabbis , imams, monks, and more. They
are often taught by programs that are created by fellow religious leaders. In these programs, the
students are taught the teachings of the religion, often based on a religious text. Religious texts are
known to be passed down, and therefore modified through the ages by those who believed that the
stories should be amended or represent something different. While a pastor of a methodist church
and a preacher of a baptist church consult the same texts, the denominations differ in interpretation.
This is due to the way each denomination or church leader presents their version of the

Opportunities At Amazon
Opportunities are meant to take advantage of once being noticed. Like how Amazon took notice
of its data in the early 2000 s, it needs to take notice of other opportunities that are laid before
them. The opportunities that they should continue to focus would be growth prospects e
commerce and strategic acquisitions. Growth prospects e commerce E commerce has continued
to be a business trend and it continued to grow in 2015. According to the data the Stefany
Zaroban got from the U.S. Commerce Department, the web sales in 2015 totaled $341.7 billion
for the year, a 14.6% increase over 2014 s $298.3 billion (Zaroban, 2016). This reveals that
Amazon would continue to have the chance to increase their sales as well as an increase to
bringing in more customers. According to the data that GlobalData received, U.S. had around
300 million internet users in the year 2014 which was an increase of 7% over the previous years
(GlobalData). These statistics show that with the increase of online shoppers every year and the
definite advance in technology in the future, more people will shop online than to go to retail
stores. Strategic Acquisitions According to Amazon s history and timeline, they were able to add
features to Amazon every year. Like in 2014 of December, they were able to add a one hour
delivery for prime members, add in HBO GO on Amazon Fire TV, Ultra HD Movies and TV
Shows on Amazon Instant Video, included in a Make an Offer for customers, and much more

Phillis Wheatley s A Revolutionary Dinner
A Revolutionary Dinner If I were to have dinner with any of the revolutionaries, it would have to
be with Phillis Wheatley. Besides her being one of the few woman listed as a revolutionary
person, she deserves recognition. She is one of the most unheard of woman I have ever heard of
in this period of time. Good for her to be one of the best known poets in history and the first
African American poet at that. Her being a slave must have been hard enough, and to be
documented is a miracle. To face oppression, prejudice, hate and the possibility of being taken
back as slave, I am very glad to have heard her story. Since she got the chance to meet the
President George Washington at a point in her life then I must have read one of her poems in

Wimax vs. Long Term Evolution
Wimax vs. LTE:
LTE and Wimax are 4G technologies. LTE is Long Term Evolution project which is been proposed
by 3GPP (3rd generation partnership project) which is nothing but collaboration between various
telecommunication companies. So LTE has its background from the GSM technology. Wimax is
IEEE 802.16 standard and it s mainly roots in CDMA.
Frequency of operation: LTE operates at lower frequency as compared to wimax. Higher the
frequency of operation, higher the attenuation.
Both wimax and LTE uses OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing). OFDM uses
orthogonal frequencies as carrier frequencies so that there will be no interference between the
signals i.e. it uses the principle of orthogonality. This in turn improves the spectral efficiency.
Multiple Access: Both LTE and wimax uses MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output), which a
Space Division Multiple Access technique. It is a smart technique in which the same signal is
transmitted in different streams to the receiver. The receiver choses the best of the transmitted
signal streams and decodes the signal. It is chosen such a way that, the best quality signal is
obtained. So, even the weaker signals are boosted up by this technique.
Infrastructure: Both LTE and wimax uses ip infrastructure. The flat structure of ip helps the mobile
as well as the base station.
Latency: Latency is less in LTE when compared to wimax.
Range: Theoretically LTE has better rang than wimax.
Speed: speed of LTE is way higher than

UBI To Combat Economic Inequality
The dominant in group of men have subjected women to a minority out group. This separation has
caused unequal treatment, double standards, and stereotypes, which all help keep women in a
state of economic inequality. In order for women to experience equality, men most lose some of
their power and share it with women. Although, many men would love women to have more
economic freedom, they do not want it to come at the cost of their power. Therefore, inter group
conflict occurs. Another in group and intergroup dynamic, which is taking place, is between the
rich and the poor. A Pew Research Center survey of 2,048 adults finds that about two thirds of the

Reaction Paper On Quidditch
When on Reddit I used the sub section of Quidditch to access more information. One interviewee
from reddit said Communication between clubs is through public Facebook events and directed
invitations, public advertisement such as posters, word of mouth (messaged or spoken), and by
messages (email, FB, WhatsApp) between committees. Communication intra club is generally
through the same means. Communication from official bodies is through the same means, but
using more advanced/expensive means of public communication. Freelance events operate in a
similar way to events hosted by local teams in terms of communication and advertisement.
Communication between teams is relatively the same, it switches between phones and email. The
teams also meet in person to discuss important information. Many of these players use the game as
an outlet from their daily life. It adds an element of fun and excitement to anyone s normal life.
Quidditchteams are not only found in universities. There is a map found on the website that gives
you the location of the team in America, the ones connected to a school and also those who are
not. Teams found outside of schools and universities are organized differently. Official teams
have a captain who, like the president, send out all the information and run practices. Like many
other sports the goal of the team is to win the game. But during my interview I learned the
players are more interested in the social aspect of the game. One of the men I interviewed said
the goal of the club was to improve our skills and have fun playing against other teams. But, of
course the players are hoping to win the game because many are involved for the competition. In
the movie the players are depicted wearing a cape, long pants and padding. The teams in real life
has a slightly different uniform. Because they are not flying the cape is not needed, and padding
is optional. Their uniforms are similar to that of a soccer uniform and usually has their name and
number located on the back. Sports are something normalized by American society. Boston
magazine posted an article saying 45 million kids are involved in a sport while growing up, but
many of these children drop the sport because their parents

about the typical relationship among the five out of ten short stories we have already discussed in
class and submitted a response for each of them. These stories were interesting and useful to my
writing in English. I have gained much knowledge through our professor who played a great role
in explaining the importance of reading and writing a reflection on them. The five short stories that
I will explore in the portfolio reflect a common element of natural conflict in our society. The
existing relationship between human and nature in all of the five stories. Each author from
different countries has unique writing style in the five tales. For instance ?A White Heron? by

Eleven By Sandra Cisneros Summary
Have you ever been embarrassed? Well if you have then you can probably relate to how Rachel
feels. In the story Eleven by Sandra Cisneros, the main character, Rachel, is insecure at school.
She is insecure because she thinks negatively about other people and other things, also that she
is insecure because she is very emotional. One way that Rachel is insecure is that she is always
thinking negative about about things and other people in her class. For instance, in the part of
Eleven when Mrs. Price tells she to put the sweater on and she does I put one arm through the
sleeve of the sweater that smells like cottage cheese, and then the other arm through and the
other and then stand there with my arms apart like if the sweater hurts me . As you can see all
Rachel can think about the sweater is how ugly and smelly it is. To add on to that, she sounds
like she is judging Sylvia, the one that said earlier in the story when Mrs. Price asks whos the
sweater is and nobody claims it I think it belongs to Rachel and the teacher believes her. Towards
the end of the story, Rachel says that she dumb and stupid.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

whiny about being eleven. That shows that she is emotional. Second, when Mrs. Price sets the
ugly disgusting sweater on Rachel s desk, she puts her head down and starts crying. Even though
the sweater wasn t hers she could have at least done something else besides putting her head down
and starting to cry. This also shows that she is emotional. Lastly, when Mrs. Price tells Rachel to

Argumentative Essay On Metal Music
Metal music: Noise pollution of today Metal music is a genre of rock music that developed in
the late sixties and early seventies. It is characterized by its loud distorted guitars, dense bass
and drum sound and vigorous vocals. Because of its different and a bit aggressive sound, metal
music is not everyone s cup of tea. Sadly, metal community is often faced with a lot of
stereotypical opinions. The most widespread stereotypical opinion is that all metal songs are
about the devil and hell. One more stereotypical opinion is that all metal songs are just pointless
screaming. All these stereotypes are wrong because metal music has a very wide range of
lyrical themes and, next to usual loud songs, there are also some very nice and emotional
ballads. Only problem with metal music is the fact that this kind of music is often associated
with drugs, alcohol and violence. It is true that some metal fans consume drugs and alcohol, but
that does not mean that all fans of metal music should be categorized as drug addicts and
alcoholics because those people s addiction is a result of their bad choices and it has nothing to do
with the music they listen to. Talking about violence is pointless because if you compare a metal
concert with a football game you will see that metal fans... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Characters Of Sherlock Holmes
It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit
theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes) This is one of
the many lines in Arthur Conan Doyle s Sherlock Holmes Mysteries. Conan Doyle, born in May of
1859, published the first Sherlock Holmesmystery, A Study in Scarlet, in 1887. When he died in
July of 1930 there were 4 novels as well as 56 short stories that featured Holmes. Even though
some of the plots throughout the series are unrealistic many of the cultural details are real. Doyle
describes London in a great amount of detail, including the smog that fell upon the city. For
example, some of the locations Doyle writes about are in fact real places; some of the characters
are based off people he knew in his life, and throughout the novels and stories there are many
weapons and ammo that were actually used in the nineteenth century.
Inspiration for the Characters
Conan Doyle was attending medical school at the University of Edinburgh when he met Dr.
Joseph Bell, his professor. Bell was a lecturer and an excellent surgeon. He wrote many scientific
books and was even Queen Victoria s personal surgeon whenever she came to Scotland. However,
what made Bell so amazing was his ability to connect with his patients. He would astonish his
students by being able to determine a patient s occupation and other personal details simply by
observing them. After Sir Doyle graduated medical

Essay about Gene s Coming of Age in A Separate Peace
Gene s Coming of Age in A Separate Peace
The novel, A Separate Peace, by John Knowles, is the coming of age story of Gene Forrester.
This novel is a flashback to the year 1943, when Gene is attending Devon School during his
senior year and the summer before it. Gene s youth and inexperience make him ill equipped to
deal with situations that require maturity (Overview: A Separate Peace 2). However, Gene is a
follower of Finny and therefore gains experiences that provoke his development into adulthood.
Some of these experiences include: breaking Finny s leg, training for the 1944 Olympics, and
killing Finny. Through these three experiences Gene is forced to grow out of his childish self and
become a man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gene becomes more disciplined and athletically inclined. He is undertaking circumstances that he
knows will never come true, the 1944 Olympics, yet making the best of them to please his best
friend. Gene is learning to do things although he does not want to do and that have no purpose.
This is a difficult task for an immature child; however, through Gene s ability to train for the
inexistent Olympics, shows that he is growing up. He looks at his training as if he were preparing
for the war. Accepting that he must go to war is also another sign of maturity brought on by the
training for the Olympics with Finny. Through his preparation for the Olympics, Gene s coming of
age becomes more and more evident.
Finny s death causes the greatest maturity growth in Gene s character. After Finny dies, he
realized how his own hatred caused the death of his best friend. He came to understand Finny s
innocence and purity which causes Gene to see flaws within himself and forces him to grow up
(Alton 1). Being able to admit your own flaws is critical in maturing. When Gene finally sees his
impact of immature behavior, he realizes how much he needs to mature. Even though Finny is
physically gone, his spirit remains with Gene and essentially makes him the adult that he grows
up to be. Finny s death is a crucial part of Gene s coming of age. When Finny dies, Gene s
immature behaviors also die. Because Gene s hatred was gone, he entered war as a man.

takes a lot of hard work and completing requirements to earn the title of an Eagle Scout.
Although the work is hard, the joy found in being a scout member is unmeasurable. Being a boy
scout is a very rewarding experience. Historically, boys who have earned the title of Eagle have
been proud of it for years to come. In Boy Scouts, there are six ranks to complete before you are
eligible for Eagle Scout. The first rank to earn is Scout. This rank is the easiest rank to earn.
Then Tenderfoot and Second Class are the next two ranks to earn. These ranks focus a lot on the
basic life skills such as first aid, tying knots and how to pack effectively for camping trips. The next
rank is First Class, this rank opens up a lot of activities the Boy Scout is able to participate in.
Reaching First Class is a great accomplishment for a scout to acquire. Star and Life are the last two
ranks to earn before being eligible for Eagle. Star and Life ranks are mainly focusing on leadership
roles and merit badges. Once all of these ranks are complete then a scout can begin... Show more

Typically, once a month the troop holds a camping event. The boys pack up and head out to

Leadership is a big part of scouts. The program encourage and help equip boys to communicate
effectively and take leadership roles in various situations. Most troops hold weekly meetings and
most of the meetings are Boy Scout lead. The adult leaders are there for guidance but the boys
typically lead the meetings. The boys look forward to summer camp each year. Camps are fun
because the boys work on learning life skills through merit

Stereotypes
Speech is much like the fashions in clothing. Most of us dress according to the style of the day.
The shoes we wear and the shirts we put on usually what is considered fashionable. If you choose
to ignore the understood dress rules set by society, than your chances of being accepted become
slim. In the same manner, when you ignore the majority s methods of speech, you become less
accepted for it. If you buy a cool Tommy Hilfiger shirt, nobody looks at you any less for giving in
to the standard instead of wearing a pink and orange poke a dotted shirt like you might have
wanted to. You have not degraded yourself for conforming, but instead have opened opportunities
for an audience. Just the same, when you change your manner of... Show more content on

When reading Anzaldua s essay, I could not help thinking how ridiculous it is for someone to be
prejudged based solely on the language they speak. She states If a person, Chicana or Latina, has
a low estimation of my native tongue, she also has a low estimation of me. This is not how things
should work. Stereotypes control too much of our perceptions of different people. Knowing that
people rely on stereotypes to judge unfamiliar people, I do not believe that it is wrong to change
our language to fit into another situation. If we change our methods of speech, then we are more
likely to be heard and have our ideas appreciated. In the movie Educating Rita, Rita is a hair dresser
who speaks the working class dialect in Britain. Upon enrolling in a university, she realizes that
she is very out of place and tries on many different identities and languages to fit in. Although no
one ever comes out and ridicules her for speaking the way she does, there is always the pressure
looming over her to conform to the rest of the students in their way of speaking. Rita was doing
what she had to do to fit in. If she was to go her own route and continue talking the same that she
did when she entered the college, she would not have many friends and her peers would not take
her seriously. But she does change to a certain degree to fit into the student mold, and her social
life benefits as a result.

The Importance Of The Hardest Working Students In College
The issue that I am prevailing is that college students are some of the hardest working people in
todays society, we are dedicated to achieve our goals to have a great future ahead of us. When a
student says there are busy, that most likely means that they do indeed have a good amount of
school work to do. One of the articles that helps support my argument is Researchers have
worked out which majors work the hardest in college (The Tab). The hardest working major
according to this article is architecture, working and studying 22 hours a week outside of the
classroom. The second is the engineering major, while architect work 22 hours a week this major
puts in about 20 hours a week out of class. These majors all definitely include required studying,
writing, reading, doing home work or lab work. These majors have been decided through a national
survey taken by students. For this certain issue I feel that I am considered a centrist on the political
spectrum. I feel like I am centrist because I have times that I have a lot of work one week but
another I have more free time to do with my free time. Most of my friends feel like they are in
the center, between a busy schedule and then a more free schedule. Although my family is more
far right in the political spectrum because they know we have a lot going on and do not want to
feel to intervene in their studying. When I read the text from the article I picked out from The Tab
I originally felt like I was more busy at times and

Lucy The Jehovah s Witness Analysis
Lucy the Jehovah s Witness was part of my mental list of people that should have been bullied.
To clarify, and to make a point not to sound overly discriminative, she was number one on the
list, a numbskull at the highest degree. How she reached a popular status I will never know.
Lucy acted out her lines, branding the antagonist a delinquent that could be redeemed; Oliver,
adjacent, harbouring smugness. If only I could tear out her tongue and ram it down his throat.
All I saw was her mouth closing and opening like a suffocating fish devouring air. Words
gradually losing sound as my adrenaline overtook jagged nerves. Everyone relished this
ludicrous freak show. It was if the joke revolved around their sun, and I, stranded on the moon,
would become the punch line on an eclipse. Then, nearing to the end in our little interpretation, I

Love and Selfishness in Love in L.A. by Dagoberto Gilb Essay
Love and Selfishness in Love in L.A. by Dagoberto Gilb
Love in L.A., written by Dagoberto Gilb, is a story full of irony and multiple themes. The story is
set in Hollywood during the summer time. Written in third person objective, Love in L.A. guides
the reader along through the story as opposed to an omniscient point of view.
The story begins with Jake driving on the freeway. He is so enraptured by his daydream of better
possibilities that he ends up smacking the car ahead of him. Jake considers driving away but
instead he stops and finds out that the owner of the Toyota he hit was a beautiful girl. From there,
Jake switches into his smooth talker role with Mariana. Jake then tries to con her by saying he

He needed an FM radioIt would have crushed velvet interior with electric controlexotic colognes all
of these contribute to the theme of selfishness and greed. He does not need an FM radio but rather
wants one. Everything he wants contributes to his rapaciousness.
The most prevalent theme in this story is loneliness. Jake is obviously lonely, so much so that
he stoops to such pathetic lines as, I m kinda hoping so, just so it takes a little more time and we
can talk some. Or else you can give me your phone number now and I won t have to lay my
regular b.s. on you to get it later. His loneliness also shows when Gilb describes how, her hand
felt so warm and soft he felt like he d been kissed. Jake seems to crave the human intimacy of
love, and yet all he does is flirt with a woman whom he does not even care for enough to be
truthful to. This is also situational irony. Corresponding with this theme of loneliness is the
concept that everyone is looking for love. This need is very evident in Jake and is also displayed
in Mariana. No intelligent female would even relent a little in the face of such an apparent
swindler as Jake. However, Mariana must be a little flattered and lonely because she smiles at his
attentions and even makes small talk with him.
Among these themes, lies another one; there are infinite possibilities. Any one person can meet
their match at any time. For Jake, Mariana could have

The Duchess Figurative Language
Through the use of figurative language, imagery, and symbolism Robert Browning is able to
portray his poem about the Duke in the light he wants. The several literary devices used in
figurative language aid in he conversational flow, while the imagery gives you the sense of what
emotion is going at the time, and symbolism showing the underlying use for the subjects
mentioned throughout the poem. The several literary devices most predominantly used in the
poem are assonance and alliteration. For example, the depth and passion of its earnest glance... is
an example of assonance used in the poem as well as And seemed as they would ask me, if they

To make a clearer depiction of the character of the Duke and his opinion and treatment of his late
wife, Browning effectively made use of Renaissance images. The most apparent symbol used is the
portrait of the late Duchess, painted on the wall by artist FrГ Pandolf. The poem only tells the
reader that the painting captures the Duchess bright personality and her love for life a depiction
that has distressed the Duke when her wife was still alive. But the painting itself and how it
came to be tells us more about the Duke s personality. The painting portrayed and captured the
duchess in a nice light, however, the duke chooses who can see it as he stated, none puts by the
curtain I have drawn for you, but I... clearly the duke only wants to show a select few of people
how he wants his last duchess to be remembered. Also, he also mentions a bronze statue of
Neptune towards the end of the poem where he speaks of himself like the god of the sea and as
you read further on the reader will notice the duke likes to present himself as someone in power.
The duke turned things into valuable pieces in order to show he is dominant and powerful, just
like how he personified the painting of his late wife and how he described the bronze

God In John Steinbeck s The Book Of Job
When thinking about God, two things come to mind; God is perfect and he controls everything.
However, chapter forty two in the book of Job is able to show me a side of the Lord that I have
never seen before. This story got me thinking about why God does certain things. Sometimes things
happen, and people just don t understand why. It also left me with the impression that Godhas the
power to bring evil upon people. God s intentions may not be to harm anyone, but to test their
faith and will power. The last thing that I learned from this chapter is that God can reveal people
for who they really are. Throughout the book, God has taken away everything from his humble
servant Job. His family and animals are gone and there is no apparent reason... Show more content

The thing that catches my attention is what God says before that. God says, My wrath is
kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is
right, as my servant Job hath (Ch.42, Pg.82) This quote shows that God is disappointed with
these men and they didn t perform like Job did. The Lord had expectations of these men, and
they failed him. Therefore, he makes them supply offerings to Job. I feel that God is proving a
point to people that faith and courage can lead to good things. Throughout the time, Job has been
put through many hard obstacles. God took everything away from him instantly including his
family. To me, losing my family would have to be the most devastating thing that could happen. I
once had an incident regarding family and it broke me down. During that time in my life, I
almost lost faith in God. I was so confused and upset at why certain things were happening and I
had no answer. It seemed like God wasn t looking out for me and it seemed like I couldn t trust
him. However, I remained faithful to the Lord because I knew that he could make things

Analysis Of Perfection Wasted By John Updike
What We Lose Through Death of Others
An Explication of John Updike s Perfection Wasted
This poem dramatizes the conflict between losing someone s personality through death and the
magic within our own separate worlds. In the poem personality is the most important part of life
because it cannot be replicated by any person in the world because every person s personality is
different and unique in its own way. The personality that is shown in the poem is that the speaker
is happy and full of magic. John Updike uses this poem to tell a story through mostly imagery. The
impression I received throughout the entire poem is the cycle of life.
The author of this poem, John Updike was born on March 18, 1932 and died on January 27, 2009.
He was influenced by several different people such as: William Shakespeare, James Joyce, Marcel
Proust, John Barth, and many other people. One of his famous quotes that I like is [d]reams come
true; without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them. John Updike wrote many
different things. He wrote short stories, poems, and novels. John Updike s inspiration came from
all over. All of the people that inspired him came from different places.
The main theme in this poem is that one s ways or personality cannot be remade by someone.
People can imitate what a person does or how a person acts, but they will never be able to
replicate it one hundred percent. The speaker in this poem talks about how when someone dies
their personality will be lost forever because it cannot be reperformed by someone else, not even
their closest friends or family members. Imitators and descendants aren t the same. (Line 14) A
person can be near someone for twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, fifty two weeks in a
year and still not be them exactly. When someone dies, there will be glimpses of them in others that
they have touched through their actions, but they will never fully see them in just one single
person. They work on making the most perfect personality for themselves throughout their entire
life just to see that when they die it dies with them. When someone works this hard on something
they do not want it to end. They make people happy by using it, they help people by using

Literary Devices Used In The Book Thief
Words can light fires in the minds of men (Patrick Rothfuss). Author, Markus Zusak, in his novel
The Book Thief, narrates as Death to show the story of Liesel Meminger, a girl living in World
War Two Nazi Germany. Zusak uses literary devices to depict a theme of how words can change
the world in order to show their effect on people.
First, Markus Zusak uses metaphors help enhance the theme to the reader. Zusak uses a Word
Shakers as a metaphor for people like Liesel, who use words to influence people in various ways.
The best Word Shakers were the ones who understood the true power of words... (Zusak 446). In
this part, the narrator, Death, is speaking of Liesel and people like her, calling them Word Shakers.

Zusak alludes to the many book burnings that took place in Nazi Germany to show what people
thought of words, and how powerful they really are. Nazi s were gathering fuel... Liesel was
witness to men and women knocking on doors, asking people if they had material that they felt
should be done away with or destroyed (Zusak 101). This is when people come knocking on
doors, asking for books they deemed un German to burn in a large bonfire that night. Zusak
alludes to this event to show how Germany thought of words and what they did to the mind.
Zusak uses an allusion to Adolf Hitler himself to show how powerful his words were to the
citizens of Germany and how they influenced them. Without words, the Fuhrer was nothing
(Zusak 521). Here, the narrator Death is speaking about Hitler and that if he never spoke those
words he did, if he never rose to power, the world wouldn t be the way it is. Zusak does this to
show words, even when negatively used, can change people and what they do. Zusak uses an
allusion to Adolf Hitler s own novel Mein Kompf to show the Nazi governments drilled words
into the citizen s heads through the book. In return, he received a used copy of Mein Kompf
(Zusak 128). In this scene, people hand a copy of Mein Kompf to Hans, like they do to all citizens,
to attempt bringing him in deeper to

The final version of The Plan was built around classic military strategy. Thirty four divisions,

itself, the setting makes them all have the same philosophical representation that Gibson wants to

Introduction
Wilson s disease is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, where copper is unable to be
absorbed properly in the body and accumulates in tissue. This condition is known to have
neurological and psychiatric symptoms, due to lesions associated with copper build up in the
central nervous system, along with being associated with liver disease. It is related to a malfunction
in the Wilson disease protein gene on the 13th chromosome; a copper transporting P type ATPase
also known as ATP7B protein. I recently discovered that this disease runs in my family; both my

The World Of Doublespeak Analysis
What is doublespeak? Is it a useful and the language should be using? Possibly people will come
up with different opinions and suggestions of doublespeak. Some people will say that
doublespeak is bad and people should avoid using it; for example, in Lutz s essay, The World of
Doublespeak, Lutz wrote about the negative aspects of doublespeak. He defines doublespeak as,
language that pretends to communicate but really doesn t (Lutz/P.347). In some case he is right
as doublespeak can make things sinful, virtuous; something terrible, be wonderful, and so on.
However, doublespeak is a powerful communication skill; People should be familiar with it and be

His main argument on doublespeak is that the doublespeak misleads the audience. This is pretty
much true. The human s recognition can be easily changed by the uses of language that their
information comes from. For example, once the news reporter called a terrorist, the freedom
fighters, most of the audiences who feel less fear and anxiety. Although, what the terrorist are really
are killing people and forcing innocent people to group suicide with them, when their title change
some of the audiences will easily justify the terrorists behaviors. There s another example of
doublespeak s dishonesty; when a person with money and authority, for example, the Prime
Minister, force a regular citizen by treated them. It would sound very bad when a people says that
the Prime Minister threated a citizen, but it will sound nothing if people says that the Prime
Minister made a deal with the regular citizen, and in most case it this really happened the
journalist would use doublespeak and change threat to deal or some positive words. Due to the
way, doublespeak can change the reality of something it is like political tools that lead to

Ambiguity Of Bret Harte s The Outcasts Of Poker Flat
Research Paper Outline
Intro In The Outcasts of Poker Flat, Bret Harte creates John Oakhurst to be morally ambiguous to

A. Tommy, you re a good little man, but you can t gamble worth a cent. Don t try it over again. He

Later in the story, One gets to know that Oakhurst is actually a man that keeps up with himself.
Harte notes, He bestirred himself in dusting his black clothes, washing his hands and face, and
other acts characteristic of his studiously neat habits, and for a moment forgot his annoyance
(77). This is something you would not think to see from someone that gambles and risks all they
have. Oakhurst from this is seen as a clean and he forces himself into good habits. This is
another reason shown why people should not judge people at first glance C. A secret committee
had determined to rid the town of all improper persons (Kolb 90). 1. In this criticism, Kolb gives
us the overall reason why the town decided to kick people out of the town. The words improper
persons mentioned in this is the basis of what the story is all about. All the people that have
traits as a improper human will need to leave the town. This is a big part of the story, and is
where people, like John Oakhurst, are being judged by people that don t even know them very
well. 2. These people are kicked out of the town and it ends up being their demise that they were
judged. Oakhurst and the others showed acts of kindness and caring after they were kicked out.
These people were people anybody would be able to like because of the things they did. This shows
and supports the meaning that you should not judge others at first

Jane Elliott s Exercises
Blue or Brown Eyes
1.I believe that I would do fine in taking part in Jane Elliott s exercises. I have a unique view due
to my circumstances from being a non religious asexual aspie (Asperger s). I have found that
everything someone does can be traced back to a reason. Yes there is something for me to gain
by taking her session however I am unsure what it is. I took socialization classes when I was
younger at UC DAVIS that at the time didn t think would really help me. They played a vital
part in allowing me to advance to the stage I am at but at the time I didn t think it was important.
Even though I don t know what I would get new experiences are a way to grow. The most
important lessons to take away from this I believe are awareness and personal experience bias.
Awareness is something that until it is put in to public knowledge the issue will never move on. For

I think that to unlearn racism is something that only society as a whole can do. Only by society
striving to solve not only the issue of racism but all isms will we move forward. I think Jane
Elliot s lessons work in that it gives the people who partake firsthand experience. However I don
t think it will ever solve the real issue overall. Society has to take responsibility in solving this
issue. The most effective method I believe would be mandatory ostracizing similar to mandatory
military service. It would give everyone personal experience in dealing with being the out group.
However this would be rather harsh the best method would be something that deals with the issue
of mindset confirmation bias and logic. If we could teach everyone about how their minds affect
them and that everyone has their own issues would be the best

Sexism In Sports
Sexism in Sports Sexism limits our country. In a world where sexism still exists, women face
challenges every day as they choose to embark in athletic activities. Even with the efforts of Title
IX, which was established in 1972, there is not equality in sports for men and women. Sexism is
real with stereotypes and discrimination on the basis of sex. Even with the high level of success
reached by numerous female athletes of many different sports, male athletes always seem to
have the upper hand. Whether it is pay, media, support, gear, or playing grounds, one sex always
has the better of the two. Male athletes dominate a field that truly is shared by both sexes. What
if we treated male athletes the way we treat female athletes? That is a world hard to imagine, and
honestly, it shouldn t be. Through female athletes sharing their stories of unfair treatment and pay,
sexism and generations of inequality in sports can be overcome. Title IX of the Education
Amendments of 1972 states, No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded
from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any
education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. The impact of Title IX on the
lives of so many girls is immeasurable. It has created opportunities for women, where opportunities
did not use to exist. Unfortunately, it has not completely eradicated sexism. Women in many
professional sports, which are also played by

The Events Of World War I
As is the case with many wars, a foundation has to be set before the situation can escalate into a
fully fledged war. Some concede that ephemeral events just before the outbreak of war are more
inciteful of the fighting rather than long held animosity between nations. Others hold credence in
the idea that wars often begin long before the first shot is fired, with their sole reason for starting
being traced back to previous conflicts and tensions with other countries. The tensions of World War
Icould be observed within Europe before the war officially started, as is observed through
German resentment and competition with other countries, along with their dominating foreign
policies and support of their allied nations. The groundwork for World War I was laid down far
before the July Crisis could have any effect on the start of the war. The ticking time bomb that was
Europe contained countries bent on imperialism and maintaining the best situation for themselves,
causing great tensions to form between nations. One such rivalry developed between Germany,
known as Prussia at the time, and France. During the Franco Prussian War of 1871, Prussia
managed to capture Alsace Lorraine, a part of France. The French were unsettled by their defeat
and loss of land, determined to reclaim Alsace Lorraine as a representation of their power and
authority in Europe. This goal led to revanchism in France, where they would suddenly one day rise
[to] regain Lorraine [and] recapture Alsace. A

This information is used to identify the boundaries between variable length x86 instructions,
distinguish DirectPath from VectorPath early decode instructions, and locate the opcode byte in
each instruction (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., 2000). The predecode logic also detects code
branches, such as CALLs, RETURNs and short unconditional JMPs. When a branch is detected,
predecoding begins at the target of the branch (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., 2000). Branch
Prediction The fetch logic accesses the branch prediction table at the same time as the instruction
cache and uses the branch prediction table information to predict the direction of the branch
instructions (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., 2000). The Athlon uses a combination of a branch
target address buffer (BTB), a global history bimodal counter (GHBC) table, and return address
stack (RAS) hardware to predict and accelerate branches (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., 2000).
Predicted taken branches incur only a single cycle delay to redirect the instruction fetcher to the
target instruction. The minimum penalty for a misprediction is ten cycles (Advanced Micro
Devices, Inc., 2000). The BTB is a 2048 entry table that caches the predicted target address of a
branch in each entry. The Athlon uses a 12 entry return address stack to predict return addresses
from a call. As CALLs are fetched, the next extended instruction pointer is pushed onto the return

Role Of Government Agencies During The Food Manufacturing...

Roles of Government Agencies in the food Manufacturing by the
Small scale farmers:
Food is needed by our body to develop, repair body tissue, cells to produce energy for day to day
activities. Food is made up of vital supplements that body needed in adequate quantities.
Micronutrient such as minerals and vitamins are needed in small quantities. Macronutrients such as
carbohydrates, fat and protein are required in large amount. The United States Department of
Agriculture has been said to have compromised their values in the food service sector. The Body
cannot properly perform its functions if any of these are missing or substituted for. A huge effort

The regulation imposed on the small scale farmer favors the large scale farmer who could afford
the terms. Efforts are not made on the genetically modified species. The slaughter house and the
beef industries in the large firms have abandoned the rudiment and ethics in food processing and
management. They were concerns with the profit margins they could realize in short time.
Large fund were pumped into the project, unskilled laborers were employed to handle food.
Science based fertilizer and cloning were the order of the day people. Expansion in the
production chain brings a lot of compromise to quality and standard of the product. The use of
conservative on products has caused more harm. There are more cases of obesity and chronic
diseases. The Fresh milk was substituted with stepped down pasteurized milk. It is good to get
rid of the dangerous germ, but pasteurization does more harm when exposed to high temperature.
Most of the individual who uses fresh milk were not considered. There are great numbers of cases
where local farmers were kept hostage for 6 7 hours with restriction to movement and pointing of
gun at them like a criminal. When approached about the seizure and arrest they were not able to
provide good evidences and in so many times their word contradict each others. Government spent

Personal Narrative-Racism
It was a scorching hot day and the wind was blowing the trees of the overgrown frost. I was at
Bur Mill Park getting ready for a tennis match. I had on a red cornerstone shirt and a tennis skirt.
My brown skin and dark brown hair were burning in the sun. Mrs. Gulden, my tennis coach, was
a miniscule lady with short blonde hair. Mrs. Gaulden had just called our team over to review
the line up. As usual, I maintained my spot as the 5th seed. My team lined up and my coach
called out the line up one by one, as we met our opponents. My opponent was rather tall and
maintained a menacing presence. She had medium sized light brown hair and peach colored
skin. Although I can t remember my opponents name, I was startled by her presence. Together,
we walked over to the court and began our warm ups. After five minutes into our warm up, we
began the match. While we began the match, I could feel my heart racing and my hands
touching the softness of the racquet. My feet were perfectly positioned and ready to race towards
the ball. All I could feel and taste was sweat dripping from my body. The ball was passed over,
and I returned it back with ease. I had an inalienable sense of pride and determination. Feeling
confident, I won the first two games in the match with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

much for me to control. The stink bugs and I were in a full fledge war. As my performance
weakened, I started losing the games in my match. All I could smell was the aroma of dead stink
bugs that I had skillfully killed. The stink bugs were dead, but I lost the next eight games in the

  • 2. Personal Reflection Of Microeconomics I have gained much respect for Economics as a field of study during this course. Being a political science major, I can honestly say that there isn t all that much science in many of the topics. Conversation in political science can be argumentative and normative without concrete reason or evidence. Economics, on the other hand, is intuitive and backed by research. More refreshingly, economics simply puts its research out for the world to see, and sure individual economists may voice their opinions about public policy, but as a field, it is based mainly on positive statements; it tells it like it is without venturing into how it should be. Economists do have a rough job in a way, they can t simply do research by conducting regular experiments like altering the nation s monetary supply or increasing the minimum wage to study the effects on unemployment. It is impressive that they find a way to use existing data to draw their conclusions. They really make the most out of what they are given. Additionally, it is nice that assumptions about complex economic topics are made so even students in basic principles courses can understand the concepts in simple economic models. I think that what we learned on market economics is the correct way of thinking about human interaction and the functioning of markets. Microeconomics offered an interesting, and potentially more useful, perspective on the market because it essentially told us how our individual decisions affect the market. ... However, the professor states that the coins are genuine evidence and refutes each of the authors reasons. First, the reading states that the Native American site in Maine where the coin was discovered is located very far from other sites documenting a Norse presence in North America. The professor opposes this point by saying that other objects were found also far away from their orignal site. The professor explains that Native Americans were travelling for long distances to obtain objects far away from their places. So, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Burgoon, attempts to explain the unexpected behaviors of individuals while interacting with one another. While communicating, most people often predict or expect a particular behavioral response, such as making appropriate eye contacts. However, if the other person s response does not match their expectations, the response can be either be perceived positively or negatively, depending on the relationship between the people. The theory emphasizes on an individual s perception of the interaction in certain situation, and because people differ in their own ways, due to distinctive cultural or personal values, the reactions... A time in history where art was a man s world, women finally got their chance to show their true colors. In 1931 with The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali (1904 1989) to 1941 with Red Hills and Bones by Georgia O Keeffe (1887 1986); two important painters of this time period, who styles are night and day along with their personalities but very similar in their love of landscape and passion for their work. When answering the question given access to the same facts , how is it possible that there can be disagreements between experts in a discipline? , one must consider the definition of an expert. For the sake of this paper I am defining an expert as someone who excels in their field , and constantly evolves their knowledge as their field progresses. Like how Amazon took notice of its data in the early 2000 s, it needs to take notice of other opportunities that are laid before them. The opportunities that they should continue to focus would be growth prospects e commerce and strategic acquisitions. Growth prospects e commerce E commerce has continued to be a business trend and it continued to grow in 2015. According to the data the Stefany Zaroban got from the U.S. Commerce Department, the web sales in 2015 totaled $341.7 billion for the year, a 14.6% increase over 2014 s $298.3 billion (Zaroban, 2016). This reveals that Amazon would continue to have the chance to increase their sales as well as an increase to bringing in more customers. According to the data that GlobalData received, U.S. had around 300 million internet users in the year 2014 which was an increase of 7% over the previous years (GlobalData). These statistics show that with the increase of online shoppers every year and the definite advance in technology in the future, more people will shop online than to go to retail stores. Strategic Acquisitions According to Amazon s history and timeline, they were able to add features to Amazon every year. Like in 2014 of December, they were able to add a one hour delivery for prime members, add in HBO GO on Amazon Fire TV, Ultra HD Movies and TV Shows on Amazon Instant Video, included in a Make an Offer for customers, and much more throughout ... • 10. Wimax vs. Long Term Evolution Wimax vs. LTE: LTE and Wimax are 4G technologies. LTE is Long Term Evolution project which is been proposed by 3GPP (3rd generation partnership project) which is nothing but collaboration between various telecommunication companies. So LTE has its background from the GSM technology. Wimax is IEEE 802.16 standard and it s mainly roots in CDMA. Frequency of operation: LTE operates at lower frequency as compared to wimax. Higher the frequency of operation, higher the attenuation. Both wimax and LTE uses OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing). OFDM uses orthogonal frequencies as carrier frequencies so that there will be no interference between the signals i.e. it uses the principle of orthogonality. This in turn improves the spectral efficiency. Multiple Access: Both LTE and wimax uses MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output), which a Space Division Multiple Access technique. It is a smart technique in which the same signal is transmitted in different streams to the receiver. The receiver choses the best of the transmitted signal streams and decodes the signal. It is chosen such a way that, the best quality signal is obtained. So, even the weaker signals are boosted up by this technique. Infrastructure: Both LTE and wimax uses ip infrastructure. The flat structure of ip helps the mobile as well as the base station. Latency: Latency is less in LTE when compared to wimax. Range: Theoretically LTE has better rang than wimax. One interviewee from reddit said Communication between clubs is through public Facebook events and directed invitations, public advertisement such as posters, word of mouth (messaged or spoken), and by messages (email, FB, WhatsApp) between committees. Communication intra club is generally through the same means. Communication from official bodies is through the same means, but using more advanced/expensive means of public communication. Freelance events operate in a similar way to events hosted by local teams in terms of communication and advertisement. Communication between teams is relatively the same, it switches between phones and email. The teams also meet in person to discuss important information. Many of these players use the game as an outlet from their daily life. It adds an element of fun and excitement to anyone s normal life. Quidditchteams are not only found in universities. There is a map found on the website that gives you the location of the team in America, the ones connected to a school and also those who are not. Teams found outside of schools and universities are organized differently. Official teams have a captain who, like the president, send out all the information and run practices. Like many other sports the goal of the team is to win the game. But during my interview I learned the players are more interested in the social aspect of the game. One of the men I interviewed said the goal of the club was to improve our skills and have fun playing against other teams. But, of course the players are hoping to win the game because many are involved for the competition. In the movie the players are depicted wearing a cape, long pants and padding. The teams in real life has a slightly different uniform. Because they are not flying the cape is not needed, and padding is optional. Their uniforms are similar to that of a soccer uniform and usually has their name and number located on the back. Sports are something normalized by American society. In the story Eleven by Sandra Cisneros, the main character, Rachel, is insecure at school. She is insecure because she thinks negatively about other people and other things, also that she is insecure because she is very emotional. One way that Rachel is insecure is that she is always thinking negative about about things and other people in her class. For instance, in the part of Eleven when Mrs. Price tells she to put the sweater on and she does I put one arm through the sleeve of the sweater that smells like cottage cheese, and then the other arm through and the other and then stand there with my arms apart like if the sweater hurts me . As you can see all Rachel can think about the sweater is how ugly and smelly it is. To add on to that, she sounds like she is judging Sylvia, the one that said earlier in the story when Mrs. Price asks whos the sweater is and nobody claims it I think it belongs to Rachel and the teacher believes her. It is characterized by its loud distorted guitars, dense bass and drum sound and vigorous vocals. Because of its different and a bit aggressive sound, metal music is not everyone s cup of tea. Sadly, metal community is often faced with a lot of stereotypical opinions. The most widespread stereotypical opinion is that all metal songs are about the devil and hell. One more stereotypical opinion is that all metal songs are just pointless screaming. All these stereotypes are wrong because metal music has a very wide range of lyrical themes and, next to usual loud songs, there are also some very nice and emotional ballads. Only problem with metal music is the fact that this kind of music is often associated with drugs, alcohol and violence. It is true that some metal fans consume drugs and alcohol, but that does not mean that all fans of metal music should be categorized as drug addicts and alcoholics because those people s addiction is a result of their bad choices and it has nothing to do with the music they listen to. (Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes) This is one of the many lines in Arthur Conan Doyle s Sherlock Holmes Mysteries. Conan Doyle, born in May of 1859, published the first Sherlock Holmesmystery, A Study in Scarlet, in 1887. When he died in July of 1930 there were 4 novels as well as 56 short stories that featured Holmes. Even though some of the plots throughout the series are unrealistic many of the cultural details are real. Doyle describes London in a great amount of detail, including the smog that fell upon the city. For example, some of the locations Doyle writes about are in fact real places; some of the characters are based off people he knew in his life, and throughout the novels and stories there are many weapons and ammo that were actually used in the nineteenth century. Inspiration for the Characters Conan Doyle was attending medical school at the University of Edinburgh when he met Dr. Joseph Bell, his professor. Bell was a lecturer and an excellent surgeon. He wrote many scientific books and was even Queen Victoria s personal surgeon whenever she came to Scotland. However, what made Bell so amazing was his ability to connect with his patients. This is a difficult task for an immature child; however, through Gene s ability to train for the inexistent Olympics, shows that he is growing up. He looks at his training as if he were preparing for the war. Accepting that he must go to war is also another sign of maturity brought on by the training for the Olympics with Finny. To clarify, and to make a point not to sound overly discriminative, she was number one on the list, a numbskull at the highest degree. How she reached a popular status I will never know. Lucy acted out her lines, branding the antagonist a delinquent that could be redeemed; Oliver, adjacent, harbouring smugness. If only I could tear out her tongue and ram it down his throat. All I saw was her mouth closing and opening like a suffocating fish devouring air. Words gradually losing sound as my adrenaline overtook jagged nerves. Everyone relished this ludicrous freak show. It was if the joke revolved around their sun, and I, stranded on the moon, would become the punch line on an eclipse. Then, nearing to the end in our little interpretation, I had to apologise to the bullied. Love and Selfishness in Love in L.A. by Dagoberto Gilb Essay Love and Selfishness in Love in L.A. by Dagoberto Gilb Love in L.A., written by Dagoberto Gilb, is a story full of irony and multiple themes. The story is set in Hollywood during the summer time. Written in third person objective, Love in L.A. guides the reader along through the story as opposed to an omniscient point of view. The story begins with Jake driving on the freeway. He is so enraptured by his daydream of better possibilities that he ends up smacking the car ahead of him. Jake considers driving away but instead he stops and finds out that the owner of the Toyota he hit was a beautiful girl. From there, Jake switches into his smooth talker role with Mariana. He needed an FM radioIt would have crushed velvet interior with electric controlexotic colognes all of these contribute to the theme of selfishness and greed. He does not need an FM radio but rather wants one. Everything he wants contributes to his rapaciousness. The most prevalent theme in this story is loneliness. Jake is obviously lonely, so much so that he stoops to such pathetic lines as, I m kinda hoping so, just so it takes a little more time and we can talk some. Or else you can give me your phone number now and I won t have to lay my regular b.s. on you to get it later. His loneliness also shows when Gilb describes how, her hand felt so warm and soft he felt like he d been kissed. Jake seems to crave the human intimacy of love, and yet all he does is flirt with a woman whom he does not even care for enough to be truthful to. This is also situational irony. Corresponding with this theme of loneliness is the concept that everyone is looking for love. This need is very evident in Jake and is also displayed in Mariana. No intelligent female would even relent a little in the face of such an apparent swindler as Jake. However, Mariana must be a little flattered and lonely because she smiles at his attentions and even makes small talk with him. Among these themes, lies another one; there are infinite possibilities. Any one person can meet their match at any time. For Jake, Mariana could have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poem only tells the reader that the painting captures the Duchess bright personality and her love for life a depiction that has distressed the Duke when her wife was still alive. However, chapter forty two in the book of Job is able to show me a side of the Lord that I have never seen before. This story got me thinking about why God does certain things. Sometimes things happen, and people just don t understand why. It also left me with the impression that Godhas the power to bring evil upon people. God s intentions may not be to harm anyone, but to test their faith and will power. The last thing that I learned from this chapter is that God can reveal people for who they really are. The Lord had expectations of these men, and they failed him. Therefore, he makes them supply offerings to Job. I feel that God is proving a point to people that faith and courage can lead to good things. Throughout the time, Job has been put through many hard obstacles. God took everything away from him instantly including his family. To me, losing my family would have to be the most devastating thing that could happen. I once had an incident regarding family and it broke me down. During that time in my life, I almost lost faith in God. • 32. Analysis Of Perfection Wasted By John Updike What We Lose Through Death of Others An Explication of John Updike s Perfection Wasted This poem dramatizes the conflict between losing someone s personality through death and the magic within our own separate worlds. In the poem personality is the most important part of life because it cannot be replicated by any person in the world because every person s personality is different and unique in its own way. The personality that is shown in the poem is that the speaker is happy and full of magic. John Updike uses this poem to tell a story through mostly imagery. The impression I received throughout the entire poem is the cycle of life. The author of this poem, John Updike was born on March 18, 1932 and died on January 27, 2009. He was influenced by several different people such as: William Shakespeare, James Joyce, Marcel Proust, John Barth, and many other people. One of his famous quotes that I like is [d]reams come true; without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them. John Updike wrote many different things. He wrote short stories, poems, and novels. John Updike s inspiration came from all over. All of the people that inspired him came from different places. The main theme in this poem is that one s ways or personality cannot be remade by someone. People can imitate what a person does or how a person acts, but they will never be able to replicate it one hundred percent. The speaker in this poem talks about how when someone dies their personality will be lost forever because it cannot be reperformed by someone else, not even their closest friends or family members. Imitators and descendants aren t the same. (Line 14) A person can be near someone for twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, fifty two weeks in a year and still not be them exactly. When someone dies, there will be glimpses of them in others that they have touched through their actions, but they will never fully see them in just one single person. Some concede that ephemeral events just before the outbreak of war are more inciteful of the fighting rather than long held animosity between nations. Others hold credence in the idea that wars often begin long before the first shot is fired, with their sole reason for starting being traced back to previous conflicts and tensions with other countries. The tensions of World War Icould be observed within Europe before the war officially started, as is observed through German resentment and competition with other countries, along with their dominating foreign policies and support of their allied nations.
