Shakespeare s Use Of Empathy In Hamlet
Shakespeare s Hamlet gives us the character Hamlet and shows us his descent into madness following
the death of his father; he contemplates suicide, is cruel and calculating ignoring the feelings of others
in his goal of avenging his father, and he sees supernatural beings that are not there.
For Hamlet to be contemplating death after the death of his own father is not unusual, his thoughts go
past what would be considered normal. Some of the first hints of Hamlet s true mental state come
from his fascination with death. He has thoughts of suicide and death throughout the play, these are
attributes of a person with a mental disorder, someone who is becoming unhinged. The famous To be
or not to be soliloquy (3.1 57 91) has Hamlet question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Hamlet returns from his studies abroad, his father is dead and his uncle has married his mother.
His uncle is the one who has benefited most and Hamlet s subconscious knows this, however the death
of his father drives Hamlet mad so he can never figure this out himself; He is told by the guards that
the ghost of his father is roaming the castle. In this time period ghosts were considered real, however
people believing in a supernatural being differs greatly from someone having an actual interaction
with one. Hamlet has an experience with the ghost, he actually talks to what he believes is a ghost.
What Hamlet is actually talking to is a figment of his imagination, a hallucination created by his mind
so that he can see the truth about his uncle, this is supported by Hamlet s interaction with the ghost in
the presence of someone

Rejection And Desolation In Frankenstein
When it comes to the aspect of human nature, it can be concluded that as creatures of action, often
propelled by personal emotion, it is without a doubt that human beings have continued to shift away
from society s initial and original values, which in turn, results in society s formation of a biased
judgment as they are keeping away from what they consider to different or dissimilar. Over the course
of the past decades, it has become increasingly unchallenging for human beings to stray from
traditional beliefs. Furthermore, it has become apparent that humans have been very easily motivated
by and are often fueled by selfish desires. As human beings continue to be blinded by their overriding
emotions and allow themselves to be greatly affected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the course of the novels, it is revealed the ways in which dangerous tendencies can lead to
rejection and ultimately to physical and mental defeat. Put bluntly, these works illustrates the ways in
which rejection and desolation affects a certain character and the epiphany that ultimately comes to
light due to the tragic consequences they face. In Heart of Darkness, Kurtz highly dangerous instincts
ultimately causes him to be more susceptible to isolation, and consequently dies, possibly as his
punishment, with his final memorable words, The horror! The horror! (164). This phrase is significant
as it is almost a sense of realization, as Kurtz, the ultimately symbol of European colonialism,
recognizes the horror in his tendencies and the ways in which he has been blind to the ways in which
it has psychologically isolated him from the people in his life and more importantly, from humanity.
Furthermore, the nightmarish outcomes of rejection are completely depicted by the influence on
Frankenstein. Frankenstein, from the minute he is faced with the manifestation of his work, flees,
claiming that he felt mingled with the horror and the bitterness of disappointment (50). This illustrates
the ways in which he initially becomes destroyed psychologically, living in fear and seeking
vengeance, and then ultimately physically by his own creation. This event is highly significant in
terms of the consequences of rejection and the ways in which natural impulsivities can lead to down
fall, in that based on the superficial details, Frankenstein had abandoned his creation and lived in
anger and depression. And through this, it is clear to readers that he truly embodies monstrosity. Due
to his instinctive actions, he comes face to face with rejection that he had

Metaphors In The Hound Of The Baskervilles
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle a renowned novelist, a distinguished physician, and a celebrated figure of the
nineteenth century literary world. Best known for his written works The Adventures of Sherlock
Holmes , and The Hound of the Baskervilles , Doyle was a prominent author during his lifetime and
generations to follow. His science fiction and fantasy novels served as the framework for future
written works concerning crime fiction. Additionally, Doyle contributed commendably to the
collection of playwrights, poetry, and historical novels.
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 22 of 1859 to a prosperous family with nine children, Doyle
became known for his intelligence and ambition. From the start of his life, Doyle was exposed to all

After reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles it was clear that
unlike many authors of his day, Doyle effectively used metaphors and figures of speech to engage the
reader and keep them immersed in the text. In his novel, The Hound of Baskervilles , Doyle adds A
dabbler in science, Mr. Holmes, a picker up of shells on the shores of the great unknown ocean (Doyle
Hound 9). The metaphorical rhetoric in this sentence allows the reader to imply that Sherlock Holmes
gains knowledge through each small bit of information. It is this technique that makes Doyle s work
much more appealing to a larger audience. According to Gale Virtual Library s The Hound of the
Baskervilles, Critic Donald J. Watt summarizes the story as a ripping good yarn, which is related by
means of some astutely manipulated conventional literary devices ... [including] structure, mood, and
metaphor (Howard GALE Novels for Students ). Watt analyzes that Doyle s heavy use of literary
devices could have been influenced by spiritualism, which is safe to assume considering Doyle s
relations with philosophy. Gothic undertones, and the influence of the strict Victorian era enhances a
lurid mood in some of Doyle s stories (Howard GALE Novels for Students ). His overall pleasurable
use of metaphor, simile, suspense, and foreshadowing have contributed greatly to the excellent
development of his plot lines and story

The Circle Consequences
Consequences of the Social Network Age
By: Kelsey Kjeldsen
Summary: The Circle
The Circle is a novel that toes the line of the effects of too much technology and the possible great
innovations that can come from it. Dave Eggers chooses to expose the possible negative effects of
these innovations through the character Mae, who is a new college graduate that receives what she
believes is a great job offer at a super tech company; The Circle. The Circle can be thought of as a
combination of present day Apple, Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Basically, The Circle is
a super corporation that is teetering on the side of monopolization of everything with the disguise of
social good. Mae is drawn to The Circle by its fun campus that ... Show more content on

We have fought for politicians and our governments to be more transparent through the years, and we
have made strides to do that with the rise of technology. The government now shares majority of its
actions online so that citizens can stay informed, and this is generally a good thing. But The Circle
brings up and important issue of when is there enough transparency? When do we stop being
transparent and let people have their privacy? As companies like Apple and Google continue to create
new innovations our society will have to address these issues. In the future we should strive to create
technologies that will reduce crimes, increase honesty in governments, and allow people to interact
with each. We should not create these technologies at the cost of personal privacy or loss of real life
interactions. We do not want a future where kids do not know how to interact on a playground or
where adults cannot talk to each other meaningfully in person because they have lost social skills. We
also do not want to lose our personal privacy, so that people feel embarrassed about their actions, and
by making life more transparent we are also making it less enjoyable by being self

With the changing demographics of UW Bothell, diversity and social issues today are increasingly
being addressed by students. Current student participation is rising with established clubs and new
clubs. The current club structure is connecting like minded students who want to establish a space
where they can help and educate others about what they deem important. These clubs have encouraged
students to devote time to global and social issues that mirror localized activism.

Therefore, last year, I connected with other soon graduating pre health students to start Pre Health

that supports underrepresented minorities in medicine and dentistry, hosted workshops to expose to
students their intended fields (suturing workshops, etc.) and many others.
With the many social issues that are being addressed, the efforts to promote change lead to student
participation. Their active participation leads to others getting educated. In our current political
situation, harassment of marginalized communities are increasing. Clubs like ours help promote safe
spaces and hopefully that comes with tolerance, say Jeffrey Leung, officer of the Gender Equity Club.
I was having a hard time articulating how I distribute my time because there are a lot of causes to fight
for, and a lot of opportunities to do so. For me I try my best to distribute my resources across various
organizations that I support on personal levels. Sometimes that takes the form of donating my time,
other times donating money or food items it all depends on the cause. I march in rallies, participate in
student organizations on campus. Those are ways I keep myself local and grounded, said Ada

The Role Of Conspiracy And Conspiratorial Thinking On...
The role of conspiracy and conspiratorial thinking in generating and intensifying the French
Revolution was very great to the affect it very much, bringing much fear to the public. The actions of
the king, queen to make these fears to be risen were things; i.e. the bringing of the troops, army to
Paris, the tramping of people that were protesting by the soldiers, and the fear that the kings, nobles
were going to stop the revolution from happening. During the time of the revolution, there were many
fears going on at the same time, and mostly dealing with the army, troops coming into Paris. These
fears were increasing by the actions of the king and him ordering the troops to come to Paris. What the
king didn t know about what he was doing was that he was going to make it worse, and having revolts
would come from this order. What made the king bring the troops to Paris, was that he wanted to make
sure to have control over the crowds from food riots from the rising grain prices, them not having
enough bread to feed the people of Paris, and bring back of order to the city. This action of having
them on standby, was in the minds of the people was increasing fear of the army, when they were
moving closer to the city. What the people thought of this actions, was a conspiracy against them. The
kind of the fears they had were of the other side, and it was escalating very fast, and it was becoming
more violated over time. What else brought them fear, was their hero, Necker was fired

Cerebral Palsy Case Studies
A child with a Cerebral Palsy may be diagnosed shortly after birth, most of the diagnosis can be done
during the first two years. Therefore, for a patient with a milder symptoms, a diagnosis may not be
rendered until the brain is completely developed from age three to five. Brain injury or brain
deformity are the causes of Cerebral Palsy that develop prior, during, and immediately after birth,
under infant s brain development. So, Cerebral Palsy can be caused by mutation in genes leading to
abnormal brain development, maternal infections, fetal stroke causing an interruption of blood supply
to the brain, infant brain infection, traumatic head injury, and lack of oxygen to the brain. Cerebral

The U5MR is a good health indicator because it is less susceptible to fallacy than other indicators such
as gross national income per capita because even if families differ in a income by 1000 fold, their
child will not have 1000 fold difference in survival (UNICEF, n.d.). Estimating U5MR through
country wide household surveys (Such as the DHS) revealed the underestimation of child mortality
obtained from census data (UNICEF, n.d.). Thus, the U5MR is a solid indicator of health, and is best
measured through personal surveys.
The United Nations set quantitative sustainable development goals to reduce child mortality by 2030.
The UN proposes ending all preventable deaths of newborns, and achieving a neonatal mortality rate
of at or below 12 per 1000 live births, and an Under five mortality of 25 per 1000 live births (Health
United Nations Sustainable Development, n.d.). For some countries in Sub Saharan Africa, reaching
this goal will require more than halving their current child mortality rate.
Risk Factors for Child Mortality In 99 low and middle income countries surveyed, under five
mortality was twice as high in the poorest households when compared with the wealthiest households,
thus the burden of child death is greater for poorer families (UN IGME, 2017). A study using pooled
DHS data from multiple countries found that variables most highly correlated with under five
mortality at the national level, ranked in descending order, included; income,

Anita Desai s Desai
She finds totally alone and helpless in her husband s house. Anita Desai s language is marked by three
characteristics of sensuous richness, high sensitiveness and love for the sound words. She is chiefly
interested in the emotional world of woman, and her fiction reflects a rare imaginative awareness of
the various forces in operation and a genuine understanding of feminine sensibility as well as
psychology. Her central characters are sensitive and respond faithfully to the needs of the self.
Anita Desai uses words for their own sake. She displays her skill in using words for music and magic.
The title of the novel also symbolizes the agony of an unfulfilled desire. Though living as man and
wife they are strangers to each other. In the two novels of Anita Desai Where Shall We Go This

past and search for happiness in the memories of the bye gone days. They refuse to fully in the

Analysis Of To Live By Zhang Yimou
Zhang Yimou presents a breathtaking snapshot of life in China from the 1940s to the 70s through the
lens of a single family in To Live . China faced many tumultuous twists and turns during this time
period as the country transitioned out of the bygone feudal society. Each decade brought in a new era:
the civil war of the 40s, the communist regime and the Great Leap forward in the 50s, and the cultural
revolution of the 60s. Zhang captures the essence of these distinct periods within the progression of
Fugui s family, a bittersweet story of perseverance against all odds. The plot of the story is rather
simple, following a linear structure. The graceful juxtaposition of various historical elements
alongside the underlying primary plot makes this a true masterpiece that manages to condense the
lives of individuals into a short chunk of time.
One of central themes that ties the entire story together is the role of luck and chance in determining
our fates. Zhang explicitly acknowledges elements of luck several times throughout the film. When
Fugui gambles away his family s estate to Long er, the instrument of his demise is a bunch of dice,
which are symbols for luck. Little does Fugui realize at the time, the rolls of the dice dictate not only
his wealth, but they also dictate whether he lives or not. In the scene where Long er gets shot to death,
Fugui runs off and wets his pants at the realization that he would have been the one getting shot if he
had been wealthy. Luck

Creating A New Spanglish Media Culture Essay
According to the latest estimates from Experian Marketing Service, 63% of Hispanic adults own a
smartphone versus 60% of non Hispanics (Fetto, 2014). According to the PWC Consumer Intelligence
series, not only are Hispanics the fastest growing minority in the US, they also have the greatest
purchasing power of any US ethnic group. For mobile companies, Hispanics represent outstanding
growth opportunities (Bothun Lieberman, 2014). Mobile companies use commercials to advertise and
connect with the everyday customer. Knowing that Hispanic customers watch both Spanish and
English speaking channels they began to use Spanglish commercials as a way to communicate with
the Hispanic consumer. As the Hispanic wireless market grows, mobile companies use our Hispanic
cultural backgrounds and bicultural lives to sell and connect with customer. Creating a new Spanglish
media culture can mean larger numbers for wireless companies and global recognition for this non
dominant group.
Clearly, the economic power that Hispanics have in the wireless market is immense, and the efforts
from these companies to reach the Hispanic community have been shown in their Spanglish
commercials and advertising. The demand for services that are exclusive to these minorities has forced
media to be aware of bicultural communities. In recent years major wireless companies have joined
the movement. Verizon Wireless teamed up with Jennifer Lopez and launched a national wireless

It can be seen that the fundamental frequency is indeed lower in the phrase final position than in the
phrase medial position. With the independent samples t test, this gave a result of p = 0.528. This
means that if those samples are unrelated, the chance that a difference of this size would arise is
52.8%. A significant result would be 5%, so this is not significant. Because there is also an effect of
voicing on the fundamental frequency, the Voice Onset Time (VOT) was measured for all different
consonants preceding the measured vowels(M= 23.78, SD = 40.33). The expectation was that when
the vowel was preceded by a voiceless consonant, the fundamental frequency would rise. As the VOT
is different in English than in Dutch (Mondini, Alphen, Miller, 2002), the distinction was made
between positive and negative values. In this case, the difference of the mean is significant
(independent samples t test, t(60) = 0.021, p 0.05).

The Cause Of The Irish Potato Famine
In this 21st century we are heavily consumed by technology and food. We constantly see

Eating fresh organic food nowadays is a crucial part of our daily living. From sowing to harvesting
and selling the produce a lot goes on backstage that not many people are aware about. Rice, potatoes,
milk and eggs are some of the staple foods that most people use. When a staple food is destroyed is

They then gradually spread and form ring of necrotizing tissue (Sedlakova et al 2011). At first the
plant will look healthy before the lesions are visible on the outside. This is also a challenge for the
farmers because they will not know if their produce is unhealthy until it is visible. By the time they
can cut of the plant the disease would have spread to the neighboring plants as well. P. infestans are
produced through sexual and asexual mating. The two mating types are known as A1 and A2 (
Nowicki et al 2012). When mycelia of both types interact they produce oospores sexually. Mycelia is
the branched filament of fungi (Encyclopaedia Britannica 2017). Oospores are spores that have a thick
coating that allows them to survive harsh environmental conditions for a long period (Nowicki et al
2012). When both these types mate they produce a worse isolate compared to only if A1 mating
occurs. The production of these more harmful isolates was detected by researchers in United States
which has made controlling this pathogen more difficult (Fall et al 2015). Sporangia of P. infectans
also produce zoospores through asexual mating. Sexual and asexual mating is influenced by the
environment. Asexual is mating is encouraged when the weather is a warmer and oospores are
produced in cooler weather hence for the thick coating of oospores. Some biosecurities that are
implemented in controlling the pathogens are by spraying fungicides, removing any infected potatoes

Why Marches Aren T What They Used To Be Summary
In Why Marches Aren t What They Used to Be , David Leonhardt ineffectually argues that the use of
mass marches as a method of protesting political issues are not necessarily a sign of an actual
movement and not as effective as they were pre internet. Leonhardt s argument is heavily loaded with
quotations from other authors and lacks clarity on some of his points. Even without fully defending his
position following the quotations or completely explaining some points of his argument, his strategy
will likely open readers up to further discussion and research. Leonhardt opens the article by
introducing two authors, one of which he does not reference to again throughout his writing. He states
that David Brook s critique of the Women s March generated a lot of discussion among Times readers
which is a great introductory statement but proved to be irrelevant to the article because he does not
reference back to Brook s critique anywhere in his writing. Immediately after this, he introduces
author Zeynep Tufecki who offers her own critique on the woman s march. Since Brook s critique

dropping. The significance of this was astounding since the beer industry was down all together.
People didn t drink a lot of beer but, Coors beer jumped by 13% during that time. This shows how
Coors can adapt with the industry and even though the industry may change Coors can still keep the

There are many different types of beers such as light, premium, or super premium. Coors has been

children?s eye and a memory is forever etched as they walk out the store and the child begins to sing ?
I Don?t Want to Grow Up, I?m A Toys ?R? Us Kid.? This magical place for children was established
in 1948 by Charles Lazarus in Washington, D.C, with the name Children?s Bargain. His vision at the
time was to ?provide a baby furniture store for the post war baby boom era.? (History, 2015)
Satisfying the customer was his number one obligation as he introduced infant products and toys for
children of different ages based on customer demands. After 10 years, Lazarus followed the
supermarket model for the store. While opening his second store he settled on the name which all kids
love to hear Toys ?R? Us. From there he established community roots, loyalty from his customers, and
introduced the iconic mascot Geoffrey. This company has not stopped growing and bringing kid?s

organizational structure through the eyes of Bolman and Deal (2013) and the instrumental strategy of

Summary OfIndian Is Beautiful By Homero Aridjis
It may seem hard to believe but there are still indigenous people out there still suffering from
corruption and oppression from their very own government. However the indigenous people are not
fighting them alone. In 1994 Chiapas Mexico, a movement began by a group that called themselves
the Zapatistas. The Zapatistas wanted change for the indigenous people for all the years of oppression
they have suffered by the government. Indian Is Beautiful a chapter by Homero Aridjis gives examples
on why indigenous peoples voices don t get recognized. He also talks about how Mexico tried to be
part of the future of the United States economy, by not having indigenous people being involved in
their economy is preventing them to grow. The Governments in Mexico ignore the indigenous people
as if they don t exist.
An essay named Indian Is Beautiful by Homero Aridjis he examines what indigenous people go
through by their government. He gives examples such as toxic dumps, highways being constructed,
military raids, and tourist complexes. This shows how the indigenous peoples homes don t get a
recognition for their space by the government or companies by them coming in and taking over. It is
time that our ethnic groups become part of the Mexican body economic and politic (143,144). In this
quote, it talks about on how the indigenous people become part of society to contribute for it can
grow. Even though there government isn t treated them right they should still make them part of

Why Is The 1832 Parliamentary Reform Act Effective
The 1832 Parliamentary Reform Act was the beginning of electoral reform in Britain. The Act
increased the size of the electorate, abolished some rotten boroughs and provided more representation
for those who lived in metropolitan areas of Britain. The Parliamentary Reform Bill is a useful
primary source when looking at how the electoral system changed in Britain because it shows exactly
how the electoral system changed in Britain. However, it is not able to show what effect the act had on
the British people, who supported or opposed the Act and the Act does not show how corrupt the old
system was. The 1832 Reform Act is a useful Primary source because it shows how the House of
Commons was reformed by the Act. The Reform Act of 1832 is a

implementation of a new multi media shopping cart that will appeal to the high end clientele as well as
track more customer data and improve sales. The Media cart gathers key information that will enable

Return on Investment for Media Carts As mentioned in this report, the return on investment is not
immediate but there are long term advantages to using the Media Cart. The advertising and
suggestions made to the consumer can cater to reducing excess inventory before spoilage occurs,
improving the effectiveness of sales, and introduce consumers to brands which may interest him or
her; these directives can increase sales and decrease loss. The on board navigation system will help
customers to find the products they are seeking; this allows the customer to find products without
taking time from the customer service employees. Use of the navigation system also allows customer
to find what products they are looking for; if they find the product at Kudler they are less likely to go
to another store and give the sale to a competitor. Long term, the cart also can be part of an expedited
check out system that decreases congestion during the check out process (Media Cart, 2010).
Consumers scan items as they put them into their carts and directly into bags. At the end of their
shopping experience, they move the cart onto the scale to check for accuracy and for additional items,
before they pay and leave; this process could save money by reducing customer service personnel. The
customer saves time through the use of the built in navigation system, the system directs the customer
through the store to the correct location of the product he or she is

The Little Mermaid Comparison Essay
The inquisitive mind of a child is one of imagination and exploration. The lines between reality and
fantasy can easily be crossed when imagination takes flight and one is left to think about everything
that is outside of the norm. Dreams of attaining the unrealistic seem only to be a subtle hurdle in life
instead of a barrier preventing one to obtain a final goal or destination. Despite these attainments as
being foreseen as the ultimate goal, individuals somehow accept aspects of the journey that may not
be as glamorous or even desirable sometimes even those that could be avoidable. Hans Christian

Walt Disney s film version under the same title The Little Mermaid directed by Ron Clements and
John Musker released in 1989 presents a similar take of a young girl who exchanges her voice with a
sea witch for legs. Both versions presented portray the dreams and desires of a young girl, however,
the portrayal of the story as told by Disney includes aspects that are more appealing to youth and
results in the mermaid ultimately getting what she wanted. The story as presented by Andersen is not
as appealing when considering the dreams of a child thus the film presentation by Disney presents a
lighter side. By analyzing the work of Anderson through the lens of a Formalist Criticism, one is able
to consider the setting, the use of symbolism as well as imagery to examine the work itself. The
implementation of clear descriptions as told by Andersen allow the reader to understand the life and
everyday experiences of the main character as well as a perspective of a world thus foreign to the
reader. Andersen s writing style allows for the reader to have a mental image of the setting of the story
as well as perspective as told by the main character allowing for the reader to be transported into the

Causes of the Maya Empire Decline
Introduction
The Maya Empire that was located in the tropical lowlands of what now stands as the Guatamela
reached its climax of power and influence in the sixth century A.D. The Maya were successful in
farming, hieroglyph writing, pottery, mathematics, and architecture. They left behind impressive
architecture and inscriptions that are a record of their symbolic artwork. Researchers have established
that the Maya cities were completely abandoned by 900 A.D. Evidence reveals that the Maya
Civilization was among the most dominant indigenous societies in Mesopotamia. Different from other
indigenous populations, the Maya were centered in one geographical region. Evidence that ... Show

Some scholars believe that the Maya had exhausted the environment that it could seldom support them
anymore (Fasold 34). By the ninth century, available natural resources that were largely depended on
by the Maya community could not support the numbers. Other scholars associate the decline to
conflicts and warfare between competing Maya cities. Constant warfare resulted in complicated
military forces, breakage of marriages, breakage of trade alliances, and collapse of the traditional
system of dynasty power (Fasold 34).
The statute of the holy lords was compromised and diminished. This led to the complex traditions of
ceremonies and rituals being dissolved into chaos. There are suggestions that some catastrophic
environmental changes such as prolonged periods of drought could be the cause of the fall. Cities such
as Tikal depended largely on rainwater for drinking and irrigation. Prolonged draughts therefore must
have had devastating effects on the cities (Petrakis 37). Notably, these factors may have contributed to
the decline collectively other than individually. The history of the civilization shows that the
population increased to about two million people within a short duration then started to decline.
Certainly, exhaustion of natural resources must follow population decrease. This comes along with
increased conflicts as populations compete for resources. A common probably result

William Shakespeare s Sonnet 18 And 130
Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? (Line 1). My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun (Line 1).
These are both two of the famous lines from William Shakespeare s sonnet 18 and 130. William
Shakespeare was an intelligent English playwright, poet, and dramatist during the late sixteenth and
early seventeenth centuries. He is known as one of the greatest playwrights of all time. Sonnet 18 and
130 are two of Shakespeare s most famous poems. Sonnet 18 is a love poem about how he compares
the woman s love to a summer s day. Sonnet 130 has a different approach. It is still a comparison, but
it seems to be a more spiteful one. These sonnets are both share similar subjects, imagery, theme, and
rhyme scheme; however they are more so different in forms and purpose. To begin with, the sonnets
both share an obvious and similar subject, which is love. The message in each poem just are delivered
in different ways. The universal Heritage Dictionary, as a set of attitudes toward love that was strong.
Sonnet 18 is what you would call your classic love poem. He is explaining how the woman s love is
compared to a summer s day. He is basically saying his love for her will never die and will always live
on. While in sonnet 130, it comes off as very spiteful and mean in the beginning. It s not your classic
love poem that one would be used to. He is pointing out all of her physical flaws by comparing them
to things. For example, in the poem he says I have seen

Gender Stereotypes In The Flash Reborn
Society always keeps the idea of heroes alive through media. Girls inspired by movies or television
shows dream of knights in shining armor saving the day. These same shows often represent the
women as weak and dependent on men. Men fight the bad guys and save the day while the women
work behind the scenes giving information to the men. The gender stereotype of men protecting the
women often reveals itself in television shows, especially in one episode of a television show called
The Flash. The episode from The Flash titled The Flash Reborn, illustrates the gender stereotype of
men as the protector of women and this negatively shows a stereotype of beautiful women that cannot
take care of themselves.
The first act of protection comes from Flash the main character. Flash, also known as Barry Allen,
cares for and protects his fiancé, Iris West, and his city, Central City. Barry will do anything to protect
Iris and Central City. At the end of season three, a giant speed force threatens to suck up Central City.
Barry realizes if he lets the speed force suck him up instead of the city, he will save the city. Barry lets
the speed force take him away and he saves the city and, more specifically Iris. At the beginning of the

Emily Grierson Patriarchy
Throughout the history of society, specifically during the years prior to the era of feminism, people
have place women as the weaker gender. In literature , there have been many instances where women
have been outshined and neglected by men because their works or contribution s are deemed to be
inferior and noncompliant in the eyes of men. Men are seen as autocratic ruler of a household and thus
they feel it s their responsibility to constantly overlook and protect women due to their inferiority that
society has placed on them, as a result, men feel superior to women. Nevertheless, men are not
mindful of the effects and outcomes of their patriarchal domination on women: depression, losing
touch of reality, isolation, and worst of all, losing their sanity. An example in literature that displays
this type of structure of society where women can become victims of patriarchal conditions takes
place in the short stories A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner and The Yellowpaper by Charlotte
Perkins Gilman. Both women, the main character Emily Grierson from Faulkner s story and the
narrator from Gilman s story, though they have different circumstances, are similar in a unique way as
they are both held back by the male figures in their households within the patriarchal society, and as a
result, they lose touch within each of their societies and are forced to insanity. Feminists have
described patriarchy as a system of oppression to women. Second wave feminists, who

Oligopolies are the most competitive market structure. Oligopolies also have mutual interdependence,
where the action of one firm can be expected to provoke competitive reaction from the others. In
oligopolies companies will try to compete using non price methods such as promotions and offers.
There are also considerable barriers to entry in oligopolistic markets. The games console industry can
be seen as an oligopoly as there are only three large companies who dominate the market Sony,
Nintendo and Microsoft. Other examples of oligopolistic industries include: retail banking,
supermarkets and mobile phone networks.

The diagram for an oligopolistic market is known as kinked . The demand curve kinks as if a firm

Allusions Of Animals In Macbeth
In the same way that many people today might perceive crickets as lucky , or of black cats as unlucky
, most people in 16th and 17th century England, when William Shakespeare was alive and writing his
plays, had commonly held beliefs about what certain animals represented or symbolized. Shakespeare
is still read, performed and loved today because of his seemingly very deep understanding of human
nature, as well as his solid grasp on what his audience knew, understood, and could relate to. He used
this understanding when writing the play Macbeth, when he utilized allusions to commonly known
animals such as owls, ravens, and bears, to convey the creepy tone of the play as well as the
impending sense of dread that builds throughout the story. In this way, Shakespeare displays his ability
to use commonly held perceptions of different types of animals to convey his tone to people in all
classes of society in 16th and 17th century England. One of the animals that Shakespeare alluded to
heavily in Macbeth is the owl. While Macbeth is off killing King Duncan, Lady Macbeth says, It was
the owl that shrieked, the fatal bellman, which gives the stern st good night, and then later, in the same
scene, Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth, I heard the owl scream and the crickets cry, (Shakespeare Act II,
scene ii). This animal based imagery evokes a sense of creepiness and evil, even in a modern
audience, despite the fact that most people think of owls in a more positive light now than they did
back then. In Shakespeare s time, the allusion would have been even more powerful. Although the owl
was praised as a symbol of Athena in Ancient Greece, the people in Europe in the Middle Ages
thought of it as sinister and shady, due to the fact that it only comes out to hunt in the dark, and its
feathers and wings are constructed so that it can fly completely silently. That sort of mindset carried
into the 16th and 17th centuries, where the owls still carried a deceitful and wicked connotation (Rijks
1). Since owls were widely perceived in such a way in that time period, people in the audience would
assume, possibly even subconsciously, that bad and evil things were happening onstage if there were
references being made to owls, the

Symbolism Of The Black Power Salute
In a world that appropriates and change every symbol until it s reduced to a sad, emojified shadow of

This case does not hold truth on the moon. Since there is no air on the moon, only the dust that is
physically touched is blown (Bad). This means that footprints not directly affected by the rockets can
still be. What else can possibly be brought up dealing with the absence of atmosphere on the moon?
The flag ripples in the photographs taken by the astronauts; therefore, the force of wind causes this.
This assumption is entirely false. In most of the photos, the astronauts are placing the pole of the flag
into the moon which of course is causing movement of the flag. Now, the biggest kicker is the
photograph showing the astronaut standing on the side of the flag. The design of the flag can explain
this. To compensate for the lack of an atmosphere on the lunar surface, the flag assembly included a
horizontal crossbar to give the illusion of a flag flying in the breeze (NASA). Now it is time for some

according to their specific needs the genetic counselor should know the Trosacks have already
established that their unborn child has Tay Sachs disease and based on those needs they should be
provided with appropriate guidance and counseling as they progress through their pregnancy. The
discussion should include what causes genetic disorders, and what that means to the Trosack couple
specifically, including dominant, recessive and x linked disorders. However, recessive disorders
should be fully discussed in this case. Another topic to include in the discussion are what genes and
chromosomes are, and the relation to Tay Sachs disease. The genetic counselor should have a great
deal of experience in dealing with specific genetic diseases, including Tay Sachs disease. They would
be able to provide a list of support groups and or families they could refer the Trosack s to in order for

Auschwitz Concentration Camp Analysis
Rationale
In this written assignment I would like to write about discrimination against Jewish and the living
conditions inside of the Auschwitz concentration camp from the perspective of an infiltrated
journalist. This topic is strongly related to the Boy in the Straight Pyjamas book. The main plot of this
story is about how two boys develop a friendship, in spite of the fact that one of them is a Jewish
interned in the camp and the other one is the son of the Nazi commandant who manages the camp.
Firstly, I have decided to use the format of an article due to the fact that I fell it is the most appropriate
format to address this subject from the point of view of a journalist. Moreover, I have chosen formal
language as the register I am going to use since the article is aimed at the newspaper readers, who are
mostly adults.

As Pavel, a Jewish prisoner who is now working in the commandants house explained me, the
barracks have as many as a thousand prisoners inside, which is insane given the limited capacity. This
issue along with starvation, because of the need of food and the development of contagious diseases,
due to the absence of cleanliness are the main causes of death among prisoners. In the same way,
violence and brutality from the Nazis towards the prisoners are also involved in this matter. In
particular daily murders, deadly experiments with prisoners and also gas chambers where massive
killings are being held.
As far as i am concerned, the living conditions in the Auschwitz concentration camp are terribly bad
and a lot of people are dying everyday because of this heartbreaking situation. The main purpose of
this article is to show how this war is unfairly affecting a lot of population. Furthermore, how we need
to stop this for the better, otherwise, this situation will continue and a growing number of innocent
people will eventually

Thesis Statement
We all understand the creative element that is in all fictional movies, including movies about historical
figures and events. Historical fiction is one of the most popular film genres. The general assumption is
that it helps people remember and understand history, giving us facts with some creative liberties. In
truth, it is changing the way we see history and thus changing our traditions and our culture. The paper
that follows should
· Explain the reasoning behind creating a historical fictional movie
· Explaining the importance of historical accuracy in fictional films
· Explaining the importance of these films on society
· Explain the negative impact that inaccurate historical films have on society
Historical Fiction and its Importance on Society
We constantly see portrayals of historical events and figures across all forms of entertainment,
whether it be a book, theatre or feature film. We are constantly bombarded with tales of dictators,
gladiators, great wars, lone survivors, myths and legends. We are constantly offered historical fiction
because we enjoy it. We like to see subjects that bored us in the classroom suddenly come to life and
entertain us on the big screen. We like to put a face to the legends that we have read about in literature.
It is something that we as a society use to break away from reality for a moment. The medium of film
has the ability to manipulate these stories to fit the entertainment and

For Hamlet to be contemplating death after the death of his own father is not unusual, his thoughts go past what would be considered normal. Some of the first hints of Hamlet s true mental state come from his fascination with death. He has thoughts of suicide and death throughout the play, these are attributes of a person with a mental disorder, someone who is becoming unhinged. The famous To be or not to be soliloquy (3.1 57 91) has Hamlet question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Hamlet returns from his studies abroad, his father is dead and his uncle has married his mother. His uncle is the one who has benefited most and Hamlet s subconscious knows this, however the death of his father drives Hamlet mad so he can never figure this out himself; He is told by the guards that the ghost of his father is roaming the castle. In this time period ghosts were considered real, however people believing in a supernatural being differs greatly from someone having an actual interaction with one. Hamlet has an experience with the ghost, he actually talks to what he believes is a ghost. What Hamlet is actually talking to is a figment of his imagination, a hallucination created by his mind so that he can see the truth about his uncle, this is supported by Hamlet s interaction with the ghost in the presence of someone ... Rejection And Desolation In Frankenstein When it comes to the aspect of human nature, it can be concluded that as creatures of action, often propelled by personal emotion, it is without a doubt that human beings have continued to shift away from society s initial and original values, which in turn, results in society s formation of a biased judgment as they are keeping away from what they consider to different or dissimilar. Over the course of the past decades, it has become increasingly unchallenging for human beings to stray from traditional beliefs. Furthermore, it has become apparent that humans have been very easily motivated by and are often fueled by selfish desires. As human beings continue to be blinded by their overriding emotions and allow themselves to be greatly affected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the course of the novels, it is revealed the ways in which dangerous tendencies can lead to rejection and ultimately to physical and mental defeat. Put bluntly, these works illustrates the ways in which rejection and desolation affects a certain character and the epiphany that ultimately comes to light due to the tragic consequences they face. In Heart of Darkness, Kurtz highly dangerous instincts ultimately causes him to be more susceptible to isolation, and consequently dies, possibly as his punishment, with his final memorable words, The horror! The horror! (164). This phrase is significant as it is almost a sense of realization, as Kurtz, the ultimately symbol of European colonialism, recognizes the horror in his tendencies and the ways in which he has been blind to the ways in which it has psychologically isolated him from the people in his life and more importantly, from humanity. Furthermore, the nightmarish outcomes of rejection are completely depicted by the influence on Frankenstein. Frankenstein, from the minute he is faced with the manifestation of his work, flees, claiming that he felt mingled with the horror and the bitterness of disappointment (50). This illustrates the ways in which he initially becomes destroyed psychologically, living in fear and seeking vengeance, and then ultimately physically by his own creation. This event is highly significant in terms of the consequences of rejection and the ways in which natural impulsivities can lead to down fall, in that based on the superficial details, Frankenstein had abandoned his creation and lived in anger and depression. And through this, it is clear to readers that he truly embodies monstrosity. Due to his instinctive actions, he comes face to face with rejection that he had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles it was clear that unlike many authors of his day, Doyle effectively used metaphors and figures of speech to engage the reader and keep them immersed in the text. In his novel, The Hound of Baskervilles , Doyle adds A dabbler in science, Mr. Holmes, a picker up of shells on the shores of the great unknown ocean (Doyle Hound 9). The metaphorical rhetoric in this sentence allows the reader to imply that Sherlock Holmes gains knowledge through each small bit of information. It is this technique that makes Doyle s work much more appealing to a larger audience. According to Gale Virtual Library s The Hound of the Baskervilles, Critic Donald J. Watt summarizes the story as a ripping good yarn, which is related by means of some astutely manipulated conventional literary devices ... As companies like Apple and Google continue to create new innovations our society will have to address these issues. In the future we should strive to create technologies that will reduce crimes, increase honesty in governments, and allow people to interact with each. We should not create these technologies at the cost of personal privacy or loss of real life interactions. We do not want a future where kids do not know how to interact on a playground or where adults cannot talk to each other meaningfully in person because they have lost social skills. Estimating U5MR through country wide household surveys (Such as the DHS) revealed the underestimation of child mortality obtained from census data (UNICEF, n.d.). • 13. Analysis Of To Live By Zhang Yimou Zhang Yimou presents a breathtaking snapshot of life in China from the 1940s to the 70s through the lens of a single family in To Live . China faced many tumultuous twists and turns during this time period as the country transitioned out of the bygone feudal society. Each decade brought in a new era: the civil war of the 40s, the communist regime and the Great Leap forward in the 50s, and the cultural revolution of the 60s. Zhang captures the essence of these distinct periods within the progression of Fugui s family, a bittersweet story of perseverance against all odds. The plot of the story is rather simple, following a linear structure. The graceful juxtaposition of various historical elements alongside the underlying primary plot makes this a true masterpiece that manages to condense the lives of individuals into a short chunk of time. One of central themes that ties the entire story together is the role of luck and chance in determining our fates. Zhang explicitly acknowledges elements of luck several times throughout the film. When Fugui gambles away his family s estate to Long er, the instrument of his demise is a bunch of dice, which are symbols for luck. Little does Fugui realize at the time, the rolls of the dice dictate not only his wealth, but they also dictate whether he lives or not. In the scene where Long er gets shot to death, Fugui runs off and wets his pants at the realization that he would have been the one getting shot if he had been wealthy. Luck ... The lines between reality and fantasy can easily be crossed when imagination takes flight and one is left to think about everything that is outside of the norm. Dreams of attaining the unrealistic seem only to be a subtle hurdle in life instead of a barrier preventing one to obtain a final goal or destination. Despite these attainments as being foreseen as the ultimate goal, individuals somehow accept aspects of the journey that may not be as glamorous or even desirable sometimes even those that could be avoidable. Walt Disney s film version under the same title The Little Mermaid directed by Ron Clements and John Musker released in 1989 presents a similar take of a young girl who exchanges her voice with a sea witch for legs. Both versions presented portray the dreams and desires of a young girl, however, the portrayal of the story as told by Disney includes aspects that are more appealing to youth and results in the mermaid ultimately getting what she wanted. The story as presented by Andersen is not as appealing when considering the dreams of a child thus the film presentation by Disney presents a lighter side. Some scholars believe that the Maya had exhausted the environment that it could seldom support them anymore (Fasold 34). By the ninth century, available natural resources that were largely depended on by the Maya community could not support the numbers. Other scholars associate the decline to conflicts and warfare between competing Maya cities. Constant warfare resulted in complicated military forces, breakage of marriages, breakage of trade alliances, and collapse of the traditional system of dynasty power (Fasold 34). The statute of the holy lords was compromised and diminished. This led to the complex traditions of ceremonies and rituals being dissolved into chaos. There are suggestions that some catastrophic environmental changes such as prolonged periods of drought could be the cause of the fall. Cities such as Tikal depended largely on rainwater for drinking and irrigation. Prolonged draughts therefore must have had devastating effects on the cities (Petrakis 37). Notably, these factors may have contributed to the decline collectively other than individually. The history of the civilization shows that the population increased to about two million people within a short duration then started to decline. Certainly, exhaustion of natural resources must follow population decrease. This comes along with increased conflicts as populations compete for resources. A common probably result ... These are both two of the famous lines from William Shakespeare s sonnet 18 and 130. William Shakespeare was an intelligent English playwright, poet, and dramatist during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. He is known as one of the greatest playwrights of all time. Sonnet 18 and 130 are two of Shakespeare s most famous poems. Sonnet 18 is a love poem about how he compares the woman s love to a summer s day. Sonnet 130 has a different approach. It is still a comparison, but it seems to be a more spiteful one. Girls inspired by movies or television shows dream of knights in shining armor saving the day. These same shows often represent the women as weak and dependent on men. Men fight the bad guys and save the day while the women work behind the scenes giving information to the men. The gender stereotype of men protecting the women often reveals itself in television shows, especially in one episode of a television show called The Flash. The episode from The Flash titled The Flash Reborn, illustrates the gender stereotype of men as the protector of women and this negatively shows a stereotype of beautiful women that cannot take care of themselves. The first act of protection comes from Flash the main character. Flash, also known as Barry Allen, cares for and protects his fiancĂ©, Iris West, and his city, Central City. • 31. Emily Grierson Patriarchy Throughout the history of society, specifically during the years prior to the era of feminism, people have place women as the weaker gender. In literature , there have been many instances where women have been outshined and neglected by men because their works or contribution s are deemed to be inferior and noncompliant in the eyes of men. Men are seen as autocratic ruler of a household and thus they feel it s their responsibility to constantly overlook and protect women due to their inferiority that society has placed on them, as a result, men feel superior to women. Nevertheless, men are not mindful of the effects and outcomes of their patriarchal domination on women: depression, losing touch of reality, isolation, and worst of all, losing their sanity. An example in literature that displays this type of structure of society where women can become victims of patriarchal conditions takes place in the short stories A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner and The Yellowpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both women, the main character Emily Grierson from Faulkner s story and the narrator from Gilman s story, though they have different circumstances, are similar in a unique way as they are both held back by the male figures in their households within the patriarchal society, and as a result, they lose touch within each of their societies and are forced to insanity. Feminists have described patriarchy as a system of oppression to women. Second wave feminists, who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Allusions Of Animals In Macbeth In the same way that many people today might perceive crickets as lucky , or of black cats as unlucky , most people in 16th and 17th century England, when William Shakespeare was alive and writing his plays, had commonly held beliefs about what certain animals represented or symbolized. Shakespeare is still read, performed and loved today because of his seemingly very deep understanding of human nature, as well as his solid grasp on what his audience knew, understood, and could relate to. He used this understanding when writing the play Macbeth, when he utilized allusions to commonly known animals such as owls, ravens, and bears, to convey the creepy tone of the play as well as the impending sense of dread that builds throughout the story. In this way, Shakespeare displays his ability to use commonly held perceptions of different types of animals to convey his tone to people in all classes of society in 16th and 17th century England. One of the animals that Shakespeare alluded to heavily in Macbeth is the owl. While Macbeth is off killing King Duncan, Lady Macbeth says, It was the owl that shrieked, the fatal bellman, which gives the stern st good night, and then later, in the same scene, Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth, I heard the owl scream and the crickets cry, (Shakespeare Act II, scene ii). This animal based imagery evokes a sense of creepiness and evil, even in a modern audience, despite the fact that most people think of owls in a more positive light now than they did back then. In Shakespeare s time, the allusion would have been even more powerful. Although the owl was praised as a symbol of Athena in Ancient Greece, the people in Europe in the Middle Ages thought of it as sinister and shady, due to the fact that it only comes out to hunt in the dark, and its feathers and wings are constructed so that it can fly completely silently. That sort of mindset carried into the 16th and 17th centuries, where the owls still carried a deceitful and wicked connotation (Rijks 1). Since owls were widely perceived in such a way in that time period, people in the audience would assume, possibly even subconsciously, that bad and evil things were happening onstage if there were references being made to owls, the ... This assumption is entirely false. In most of the photos, the astronauts are placing the pole of the flag into the moon which of course is causing movement of the flag.
