The Apple device you re holding in your hand right now, had to start from somewhere right? Well

in his shadow. The Apple 1 was the first piece of equipment these two geniuses built, It was one of
the first Personal Computers ever made according to Steve Wozniak. This computer was first
presented at the Homebrew Computer Club, where it wasn t widely accepted because it was
believed that no one would have a need for a personal computer( Steve Wozniak ). The first Apple 1
ever built was built inside of a briefcase where every component was either bolted or glued in.
Apple made 63 Apple 1 s and only 6 remain to be alive and working today. The last Apple 1 to ever

Examples Of Determinism In Arrival
Determinism and Free Will in Arrival
If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things? This is one of the
heaviest hitting questions in the movie Arrival and it serves as the philosophical launching point
for my discussion here. This question comes from the main character Louise directed at her future
husband. As the movie progresses, we as viewers learn that the main character Louise has been
given the ability to see into the future. Part of these visions include the death of her future
daughter to a rare disease at a young age. Yet, even though she can see these events of the future
and even though she knows of the pain and suffering they will bring, she still chooses to follow
the same course of her life because she recognizes some type of greater purpose. It is through the
actions and decisions of Louise that this movie explicitly explores the notion of whether
knowledge of future events would affect or negate our concept of free will as human beings. Like
Ted Chiang s short story entitled The Story of You Life that... Show more content on

Rowlands discusses this in Chapter 9 of his book and he argues that this concept allows us to
understand what it means to be a human being and how we are to achieve authenticity in our lives.
Namely, this type of thinking causes us to live in the light of our death. To do so, we require a
different understanding of time, one that transcends our standard linear notions of a past, present,
and future. By having a being towards death understanding, we begin to see everything in relation
to the now. This understanding applies directly to our understanding of our mortality. As finite
beings, this mindset makes us confront our finite nature and creates a sense of meaning through the
reality of death. It is through this realization that we find our meaning and true

Perry Patetic s Essay
The 21st century has opened up new ways of travel for the newer and future generations. Perry
Patetic in his passage suggests that due to the level of mobility in our lifetime there lacks the
close relationships of living in one general area. He continues by listing hypothetical advantages
and disadvantages of traveling. The authors purpose is to point out that the current generations
have become less attached to other people and should stay in one spot and create close
relationships. The author creates a monotone tone for our generation and generations to come.
Due to the easy access of traveling, people tend to leave behind close friends and parts of their
past. ...that makes it too easy for us to move away from the people and our past.

Identifying The Devils In Rachel Carson s Silent Spring
Arnold Schweitzer once said man can hardly even recognize the devils in his own creation . This is
the point that Rachel Carson argues throughout her book Silent Spring. Carson believes that though
the scientific revolutions that occurred since the turn of the 19th century may seem to be solely
beneficial, they have disastrous repercussions. In particular, Carson claims that man s newly
established ability to have dominion over natureputs the world in a dangerous position. If humans
let the power of controlling nature get to their head and refuse to attempt to understand the possible
consequences of their actions, the Earth is destined to turn into a contaminated wasteland. She
argues that if mankind continues to believe that it is superior to all around it and thereby continues
to rapidly and impetuously alter nature to fit its own desires, then man is using scienceand
technology to catalyze its own doom. However, Carson does not view... Show more content on

To her, nature and science are not mutually exclusive and can exist in tandem. In fact, she even says
that where man has been intelligent enough to observe and emulate nature he is capable of creating
progress that is beneficial for both nature and man.In this case, humans are looking to nature for the
solutions. Rather than seeing themselves as above nature and seeking to control it, they are
observing it and its patterns to obtains a solution. Therefore the problem for Carson lies in the
human superiority that has developed alongside the expansion of science. She criticizes the
human desire for the control of nature which she believes is a phrase born of arrogance and
instead opt for, as Dr. Briejer says, humbleness . Carson thinks that in order to truly thrive and
proliferate, man should not wage a war against nature, but instead look to it as an equal and address

Rikkki Tikki Gi Movie And Movie Analysis
Curiosity is the best word to describe a mongoose, this is because mongooses like to explore the
world around them and mongoose are so curious that they rarely get frightened, as also
explained in the Rikki Tikki Tavi story. People around the world might know that every
mongoose has to fight a snake once in a lifetime since mongoose like to eat snakes. Although
some mongooses like to eat insects, lizards, birds, and rodents. While others like the Indian
mongoose like to eat snakes especially cobras. Mongoose is the name for 29 out of 34 species
located in southern Eurasia and Africa. Rikki Tikki Tavi the book, was created by Rudyard Kipling

The story only gives brief descriptions, but the movie adds or gives more detail to the setting.
The story states that, One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow... (Kipling
143). While the movie represented the high summer flood as a thunderstorm, in a jungle( movie
00:21). If it was a high summer flood, then why would the movie include thunder noise or the
noises of scarred animals(movie 00:29). This three evidence points out the difference of how a
movie represents the wording of the story. In conclusion the setting of the story changes a little
because the movie specifies the setting. Thirdly, the resolution of the story and the movie doesn
t change, because both are part of the same story, if the resolution were to change, the story
wouldn t make sense. Both medium resolutions are about what Rikki Tikki did to defeat
Nagaina, like killing her eggs. As the text shows, Nagaina saw that she had lost her chance of
killing Teddy, and the egg lay between Rikki Tikki s paws ( Kipling 154). Another piece of
evidence is shown in the movie, where Rikki Tikki smashes the eggs, but keeps the last egg and
shows the egg to Nagaina( movie 19:07). The resolution also has to do with how Nagaina died
or how the text states never came back. As told by the story his little white teeth were clenched
on her tail and he went down with her and very few mongooses, however wise and old they may
be, care to follow a cobra into its hole ( Kipling 155). As

Should School Start Later Persuasive Essay
What time do you get up to get ready for school? Do you wake up at the last minute and have to
rush? Some people may say that school starts too early, and in all reality it does. Students minds
are never fully awake at eight a.m.. They may not give themselves enough time to eat breakfast.
May not be getting enough sleep. Maybe they don t have a ride. Are the teachers even ready? If
school started an hour later would there be as many tardies? Pushing the starttime back an hour
may be beneficial for students and teachers. Some kids are not able to drive themselves to
school. Whether it be they are out of gas, no car, or not even eligible to drive. If they were to
wake up late, and miss the bus, or other transportation, it may take them a while to get to school.
Whether they have to walk or whether they have to find someone else to take them. Either way
they will most likely be late, and miss class time. If school were pushed back an hour it would
give them enough time to make it to class on time. No excuses. You may think that if they do it
with this time, that they will do it if changed too. In all reality they can wake up at the same time
and not be rushed to get to school. Also have time to eat breakfast, and maybe find another ride.
Say that they were to wake up at seven fifty. That would give them enough time to shower if
needed, eat, play on their phone, and get to school. Allowing them to be on time to their first hour
class, and be able to chat with friends before

Basis Of International Trade Essay
International trade is historically the oldest and most widespread form of external economic
relations. It is a movement of goods that represents a foreign exchange, that is, goods cross the
boundaries of the individual countries or economic unit. Foreign trade links the country s internal
economy with the world economy and fulfills important functions in the process of developing the
productive forces and international division of labor. (Markusen, 1995)
The basis of foreign trade is the realization of imports and exports of goods and services between
the domestic economy and other countries. The theoretical basis of foreign trade policy consists
of individual theories of foreign trade, which have been formed since the 18th century. These
theories were protectionist or liberal, depending on the objectives and the tools used. Each state
has its own foreign trade policy. Foreign trade policy to be defined as a set of principles and
measures undertaken by the state in the field of foreign trade using trade policy instruments.
(Markusen, 1995)
The history of foreign trade relations in the world economy is linked to a dispute between the two
basic ties of trade policy. The first type is protectionism, whose supporters maintain a protectionist
approach and try to enforce trade barriers to foreign competition. The second type is liberalism,
whose supporters advocate free trade. (Reuvid Sherlock, 2004)
Free trade is defined as a system, where goods or services flows across the

Corruption in Government
Corruption in Leadership: Public Service and Government Cynthia Klecha Abstract Corruption
throughout the world is extensive. Corruption is defined as the twisting of integrity. A corrupt
individual is an opponent of the truth; their virtues and ethics are deficient. In the United States,
people in all positions of private district, public assistance, and government bureaus have been
entangled in varieties of corruption. Corruption crimes include bribes, insider trading, patronage,
embezzlement, electoral fraud, kickbacks, unholy alliances, conflicts of interest and several others.

This corruption affects the trust of the public and threatens the safety of the nation. Each act of
corruption from a public servant can have extenuating results reaching far beyond those initially
involved in the offense. Most officials who serve the public strive to enhance the lives of
Americans, but several make choices to go against the law because of unethical motives. These
reasons usually include assembling a larger bank account for themselves or their families. Public
officials involved in corruption offenses have come from employees who work at city hall, police
departments, schools, courts, transportation, zoning or health departments, and governmental
offices. Politicians in all sectors of politics are not immune to public corruption either. The FBI,
in 2005 made public corruption number four on their top ten orders of investigative priorities.
The FBI began a national program around the country, putting trained agents in strategic positions
to detect public corruption. They use skills in surveillance in both the cyber world and
undercover operations. The FBI officials often team with governments in each state to identify
fraud and also work together to prevent different types of corruption. Dan O Brien, Chief of the
Public Corruption and Government Fraud program at FBI Headquarters stated, In 2004, we

Analysis Of The Poem Taps Upon The Grass
Taps upon the grass. We moved to Prairie Grove, May of 2007 from Fort Smith, Arkansas. It was
a beautiful day and even though the drive with a newborn and a traitor full of our belongings
was intense. The scenery was absolutely memorizing, little did we know or realize how many
wonderful things there were about this little town to explore. We had lived in Prairie Grove for
a few years before we started attending local events. It was a Friday afternoon and I was heading
to the school to pick up my oldest son Elliott from band practice and I noticed a lot of people
setting up tents and walking around in old settler clothes. Men in blue and gray suits, some
were riding horses. Women in petticoats and big bulky dresses. All walking around the
Battlefield Park like this was something normal that went on everyday. I m thinking, Ok, this
town is kind of weird. Soon I started to learn the history of the town we moved to, and all the
intricate details surrounding the town of Prairie Grove. Come to find out, Part of the Civil War
battle was fought on the Prairie Grove Battlefield on December 7, 1862. The Confederate Army
under Major General Thomas C Hindman engaged the Union Divisions of Brigadier General
Francis J. Herron and James G. Blunt near Prairie Grove Church. They were suppose to attack
Blunt on Cane Hill but this plan was foiled by the untimely arrival of two union divisions. The

Time Series Forecasting And Neural Networks
Abstract
Time series forecasting plays an important role in the academic and practical domains. Many
researchers have studied on this area from several years. There are many models which are used to
improve the accuracy of time series forecasting. In this paper, I have focused on one method i.e.
Neural Networks. In the first section of the report, I will give brief introduction on time series
forecasting and neural networks. In the next part, I will explain this neural method which is used
for forecasting in the literature review. At last, I will conclude the paper. Moreover, the main aim
of this paper is to define the neural network method among the different methods in the time series
forecasting.
Introduction
Time series forecasting is a quantitative model. It means that historical results are gathered to
produce the results to predict the future. This model is used in that situation where no
information is available or provided data is not satisfactory. Time series is a series of
experiments which is measured to get successive results such as, x1, x2, x3.......Xt 2, Xt 1 Xt.
These experiments may be done every day, every hour or every year. It is important to understand
the data pattern to achieve the aim that hoe variables behaved in the past. It has two types of
models which are linear and non linear. Moreover, linear methods are easy to construct and
understand. This is used when there are a huge number of forecasts to be done. Many researchers
have done efforts to

American History Retells World War II
American history retells World War II (WWII) stories about heroes, and their contribution to the
success in ending the conflict between Japan and the United States (U.S.). The U.S. Military s
attempt to seize key islands in the South Pacific seem futile as Japanese Imperial Intelligence Teams
(JIIT) monitored U.S. communications systems. Messages intercepted by the JITT compromised
U.S. Military synchronization activities, putting their efforts and the lives of American Soldier s at
risk. The Navajo Code Talkerprogram is the U.S. Marine Corps solution to secure communications.
World War I (WWI) introduced the concept of securing lines of communication with a foreign
language not used by both sides during the war. Innovative combat Commanders utilized Native
Americans and their language within their ranks to send secure message. These Native
transmissions had flaws. The messages transmitted in the native language did not have a coded
format. Military terms for rank, weapons, and vehicles also did not exist in the Native vocabulary.
At the conclusion of WWI, the Germans identified the Native American tribes by their language
used during the war, exploiting and deterring any further similar attempts to secure messages. The
U.S. Military ceased further improvements into the augmentation of native languages and radio
communication.
The U.S. Military, struggling with a communication disadvantage in the early stages of WWII
proposed to employ Native Americans and their language

Moreover, planned on the model of a Buddhist Vihara, it is set in the focal point of a square

in the four corners and the mausoleum has five patios, ascending from the storm cellar, one over

In the rat race to earn more profit the poor workers were doubly exploited. First by the British
who paid them minimal wage, made them work in unhygienic and often life threatening

Introduction Career planning is the process in which somebody becomes conscious of their skills

expensive and since Jennifer has a small business than these tests are a bit out of her league. Once
in a while she can use those tests, but is not something that can be done every time she wants to
hire somebody. Backgrounds checks are the most effective ways to separate theft prone people from
the ones that are not. With these types of tests Jennifer can differentiate which individuals are

merchandise and/or cash that individual should be fire immediately. Jennifer would have to make

Television Shows Based Around Family Life
Television shows based around family life have been around for many years. Back in the 1980 s
and 1990 s, TV show families were more conservative, taught lessons ,didn t curse at each other,
and always seemed perfect . In todays age, shows show a plethora of technology, use slang,
cursing, and inappropriate jokes. The show Full House is your typical traditional familyoriented
television show. The plot of the show comprised a husband and his three kids, D.J, Stephanie,
and Michelle.Their mother got killed in a tragic car accident leaving the husband,Danny
Tanner, his best friend Joey and brother in law Jesse to help raise the kids. Even though they
don t have a mother figure to help raise the family, they all work together to live a normal, happy,

orientation, but shows it in a more modern way. The twenty first century show starts off with a
family of five, A mother named Linda, Bob (The husband) and their three kids, Louise, Tina and

their everyday lives. Each episodeintroduces a problem a family member goes through, whether its

Austen s Diverse Presentations of Marriage Proposals in...
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be
in want of a wife. These are the infamous first words of Jane Austen s Pride and prejudice. It is a
beautiful, semi epistolary romance novel about the love and relationships in Regency Britain, set in
a fictional town called Meryton in Hertfordshire. It also tells a story about how even the most
perceptive people can quickly and wrongly judge people as proud or unloving, when in fact, they
are just shy and unable and unsure of how to communicate their feelings to each other. The Bennet
family has five daughters, the beautiful and elegant eldest, Jane, the intelligent and strong willed

His best friend Charles Bingley on the other hand is care free and falls in love at first sight of
Jane. He is not quite so rich or handsome, but is friendly and well mannered which brings him
friends wherever he goes.
The representations of marriage in Pride and Prejudice are varied from being out of spite, lust and
vengeance to being full of love, respect and infatuation. Chapter nineteen brings the first proposal,
the unwanted prospect of marriage to Mr. Collins. When Mr. Collins asks Mrs. Bennet for a
private audience with her daughter, Elizabeth anticipates what is coming and tries to excuse
herself with the excuse that will not only get her away from him, but she also tries to show her
mother that she is not interested in a man like him. ...I beg you will not go. Mr. Collins must
excuse me. He can have nothing to say to me that anybody need not hear. I am going away myself.
But, this comes to no avail.
In his speech, Mr. Collins presents three main ideas that he thinks represents marriage. His first
motive is that he thought that he should, as a clergyman, set an example to his parish of who and
when to marry. His second motive was that he thinks that it will make him happy. I am convinced
that will add very greatly to my happiness. Here, Austen uses My not Our, so that Elizabeth gets a
full understanding that he doesn t love her at all, and so makes it easier to reject him. It also shows

The Literary Works Of The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Although money provides security, social status and comfort, it does not grant happiness. There is
a tendency in American culture to equate success with happiness. Success is the core of American
society, as it drives innovation and motivates people to work harder in order to achieve their goals
but at what cost? When striving for success, people tend to neglect other important areas of their
lives such as their health, emotional well being and more importantly their loved ones. The literary
works of The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald; the play Death of a Salesman written by
Arthur Miller and Jon Krakauer s novel, Into the Wild, depict the value of non material, intangible
possessions. The three pieces exhibit characters who neglect their loved ones and are quick to
escape intimacy once they are able to obtain a wealth and status or other desires. Consequently, the
stories show that the pressure to appear successful often times inhibits people from attaining the
authentic joy of relationships.
Placing high value on social status promotes artificial happiness, which proves to be less fulfilling
than pursuing genuine human connections. In The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway narrates the tragic
story of Jay Gatsby, who devotes his life to his dream of reconnecting with his lost love Daisy
Buchanan. Daisy and Jay Gatsby first met five years ago in Louisville, Kentucky where Gatsby was
stationed at Camp Taylor before being deported overseas. Unfortunately, their

Paradigm Shift And The Evolving Corrections Environment...
Marcia Outten Robinson
JUS 601 Q5344 Correctional Policy/Practice 15TW5
1 2 Short Paper: Paradigm Shift and the Evolving Corrections Environment Assignment
Rewrite 4
Southern New Hampshire University
Professor Michael Murphy
July 11, 2015
Abstract
This paper will try to explain how our correctional facilities use to be and what they are today.
In today s order, our correctional facilities are nothing like they were a long time ago. Foremost,
the federal, state and local governments have a monopoly over our criminal justice systems and
incarceration. This includes defining crimes, apprehending and prosecuting criminals, and then
deciding what to do with the convicts. During imprisonment, government control is downright.
Despite variation in the means, methods, goals and dreams of the many prison reform organizations,
most of them out of necessity have a big government focus. (John Dewar Gleissner, 2012)
Still, the shift must eventually be away from heavy government and towards decentralization, local
control, individual initiative, competition and evidence based punishments in public. Why?
Because that is what worked in the yesteryear. American and world history provides fully
documented successful evidence based practices, not with studies or social science, but in the more
critical world of practical application over the centuries. (John Dewar Gleissner, 2012)
A punishment used to be carried out at the local level, but over time, it became centralized.

Washington Irving, American Story Teller Essay
Washington Irving, American Story Teller I strongly agree with the statement Washington Irving
found in legend and folklore a view of the natural world colored by emotion, by superstition, and by
the ancient belief that supernatural beings inhabit the wild places of the earth. He wrote stories that
illustrated old truths about human nature and the dramatic possibilities of the American landscape.
Although Irving wrote over twenty volumes, including essays, poems, histories, biographies, and
more, in class, we have focused on his fiction. Irving dispersed many beliefs and legends of his
time, and the past, into his stories. He also made great use of American themes in these literary
pursuits. Such details along with existent people and events interlaced in his imaginary tales are
some of the reasons I find his work so distinctive and enjoyable. Washington Irvingwas the
youngest of eleven children, born into a somewhat wealthy New York City merchant family in
1783. In his twenties, he wrote for newspapers, journals, and magazines. Shortly afterward, he
worked in publishing and editing. As the first American belletrist, Erving found great enjoyment in
writing. His first notable book, (which he heralded the release of with a fanciful precursor,) was A
History of New York (1809). It was published under one of his many clever pseudonyms, (faux
historian), Diedrich Knickerbocker. When Irving was thirty six years old, the simultaneous

Analysis Of The Day The Music Died
Released in 1971! Even over 45 years later remains one of the most conversed and debated songs.
Boldly original and thematically ambitious, what set American Pie apart had a lot to do with the
way we weren t entirely sure what the song was about, provoking endless debates over its epic cast
of characters. His eight minute long rock and rollAmerican dream became an anthem for an entire
generation who memorized every line.
Children grew up singing it fascinated by the mysterious lyrics with their cryptic references to 50s
innocence, the turbulent 60s, and 70s disillusion.
Who broke the church bells?
Who was the jester who sang for the king and queen?
And what really was revealed
the day the music died ?
When people ask Don McLean what does American Pie really mean, he likes to reply: It means I
never have to work again.
Passion for the song can be derived from the fact that there are fan websites entirely dedicated to
solving these mysteries.
But now at long last, the inspirations behind his Song of the Century are to be revealed after
McLean put his original manuscript up for auction. These 16 pages of handwritten notes, which
have laid hidden away in a box in his home for 43 years, were sold for $1.2m (ВЈ800,000) at
Christie s in New York, to an anonymous bidder.
Structure
The song can be divided into roughly 5 sections:
Prologue (verse 1) A look back from early 70 s and sets up platform for other verses;
Act I (verse 2) Establishes the 1950s as the reference

The Difference Between The Winter Olympics And The Winter...
Introduction
Welcome to the world of sport. A fast, competitive and difficult walk of life, where only the
determined and hardworking succeed. Any form of physical exercise requires coordination, skill,
strength and the basic motor movements. Physical disability impairs many people from being able
to compete at the level of able bodied people.
The Olympic Games Started in 1896. Started for all those able bodied sportsmen and woman
looking for universal competition. In later years the Paralympics was started for war veterans. In
1960 it was no longer exclusive to war veterans and was opened to all those living with disabilities.
What is the difference between the winter Olympics and the winter Paralympics in terms of
qualification and concessions?
The winter Olympic games:
Alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice
hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboarding and
speed skating are all 15 sports that take part in the winter Olympics. With each one of these sports

Being disabled is a very unfortunate thing, whether you were born disabled or later became
impaired either way it is still difficult to cope with. Sport however is one way in which
physically or mentally disabled people can enjoy time being active and at the same time stimulate
muscle movement and growth. The Paralympics is for those who are disabled in some way but
are still capable of preforming. The Paralympics has set concessions and requirements for those
competing and the competitor s level of disability is assessed prior. There are different categories
set for the disabled and their physical and mental abilities are assessed and they are then placed in
their certain categories. To compete at the Paralympics you have to have fit into one or more of the

Light in August Essay
In the novel Light in August, Joe Christmas and Joanna Burden are extremely damaged individuals.
Both characters were raised in turbulent environments with an emphasis on religion. The sins they
committed had a profound impact on them. They knew that their behavior was wrong but they
were compelled to continue. Religion became a mental prison for them. A prison that they created
but that they would never escape alive. Although Joe and Joanna viewed religion in completely
different ways, they both lacked the capacity to forgive themselves because of their upbringing.
For Joanna, religion was a source of comfort that was pushed on her by her father. Joanna was

Christmas. He saw it as his duty to convert Christmas to Christianity and to force him away from

for him to resist McEachern s oppression but it also traps him. Joe Christmas was conditioned to
believe that sin is wrong and by committing sins he was fighting everything that he had ever been

dietician, all he knew was betrayal by the women in his life. His foster mother betrayed his foster
father by attempting to help him. In his eyes, women were not to be trusted. The breaking point
for Joe was Joanna s pregnancy scare. To him it was the ultimate betrayal. You haven t got any

not know what was happening to her body because she had never been taught. Joe however saw

destroyed her will to live. Maybe it would be better if we were both dead . (Faulkner 278) If she

Essay Cost Volume Profit Analysis
Cost volume profit (CVP) analysis and costing for the 21st century has evolved into a very
complex and difficult paradigm. Even the most gifted accountants find that grasping the entire
concept of accounting for a corporation can be very mind boggling and difficult. Yet,
understanding such a fundamental principle can allow corporations to grow in ways that other,
less educated, corporations can never dream to achieve and simultaneously understand the bottom
line . In this paper we will discuss value costing in the 21st century, other relevant costing
methods, and the relevancy of CVP in today s workplace. Before we criticize and analyze CVP it s

Unfortunately, not all companies are as benign and have the ability to define all their variables,
especially when their product is so diverse and complex. Gupta states, in virtual enterprises it is
important to adopt a costing system based on performance and indentifying critical success factors
and tracing the measures and metrics to those factors that would ultimately lead to an improved
organizational performance and competitiveness and value (Gupta , 2005). Simply put, due to
companies evolving, their way of measuring their success can be better understood through a CVP
analysis. But, due to the complexities and many assumptions created by that analysis, I would have
to disagree. Gupta also states, the cost and performance measures in New Enterprises have to focus
on delivering value rather than merely trying to establish the historical cost (2005). I find this
statement very relevant because historical cost only allows the company to see the beginning and
the end, and separates them from the present. Understanding the present and ongoing cost is
important in determining value of a product and corporation because it possesses the true and
present success.
Some of the assumptions of CVP as outlined by accountingformanagenment are: selling price is
constant regardless of volume change, costs are linear, with multi products the sales mix is constant,
and manufacturing companies inventories do not change (N.D.). Because of the assumptions

The Intellectual Property Rights Of The North American...
Introduction to the Intellectual Property Rights
In a general term, intellectual property is any person s human intellect, which is often protected by
law, in order to safeguard its use from another person. The possession of such kind of property
generates limited monopoly in the safeguarded property. Intellectual property can be subdivided
into copyrights, patents, trademark and trade secrets (Intellectual Property Rights, 2014).
The law protects the Intellectual Property so that the people who created and invented the property
can get appreciation and even in some cases monetary benefits from what they created. Every
country has different laws regarding the protection of intellectual property. There are even some

Still there is some difference between the Intellectual property law and the tangible property. Where
the right of exclusive possession is sole of the rights safeguarding the real and at the core of the
bundle of rights protecting real and personal property, things are different in the intellectual
property ( Intellectual Property Rights, 2014). In the USA, the Congress gets the control to monitor
patents and copyright from the INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY clause of the Constitution. The
Article I, Section 8 of the constitution says about it. The U.S. office of Patent and Trademark is
authorized to regulate federally registered patents and trademarks. Even though the patents are only
regulated through federal law, trademarks can also be governed through State law. Copyrights are
particularly controlled through federal law and have to be recorded through the U.S. Copyright
Office (Intellectual Property Rights, 2014).
United States Copyright law is regulated by the federal Copyright Act of 1976. The exclusive
rights can be seen in appendix A. The innovation recorded Works before 1978 currently has a
copyright duration of 95 years, seen from the date of publication. Further the duration can be seen

Saints Scholars And Schizophrenics Summary

perspective to why there was such a large number of schizophrenic cases within Ireland, and also
why such a large percent were unmarried males. She wanted to dissect the issue of why these
individuals were so prone to schizophreniaand what cultural factors cause these high rates. Scheper

The labeling theory explains how a community or culture defines deviant behavior, and the proper
diagnosis to treating the individual. This can be seen in An Cloch an, where psychiatric problems
are rarely made by the villager himself (Scheper Hughes 161). Although initial hospitalization is
rarely in acted by the individual, the patient eventually internalizes his behavior as deviant and will
identify himself as insane once institutionalized. However, the labeling theory can only be used
within the definitions of the culture, since different cultures will define abnormal behavior
differently. In the context of some Non Western cultures, symptoms of schizophrenia are praised,
and those who may hear voices or hallucinate are deemed as spiritual, and given the role of prophet
or shaman within the culture. Although schizophrenic symptoms are revered in some cultures,
within Ireland there is not only a stigma to the patient, but to the family as well (Scheper Hughes

a pathology for the schizophrenic mothers . Defining the mothers of schizophrenic patients as
obsessive, sexually and emotionally immature, repressed, guilt ridden and ignoring the needs and
demands of their children (Scheper Hughes 257). This clinical diagnoses for mothers of
schizophrenics only deepens the social stigmas, and created more resentment among the family
members toward the patient. Not

Each member of a household had certain duties: men worked in fields, directing slaves and sons
in producing tobacco and grain, women cultivated vegetables, made clothes and candles, kept

gentry and yeoman classes formed only after conflict and struggle between groups of white men
that lasted more than a century. 3 The process of class formation had begun during the mid
seventeenth century but was not completed for several generations. The social experiences of
natives and immigrants led to violent Indian troubles and economic difficulties such as, Bacon s

prevent it by studying cellular and molecular changes in the sensory neurons.
With there being no cure and little treatment options, most of patients money goes into pain
management medication. So far, it has been determined that the best course of action to manage
CRPS is through medication and sometimes sympathetic nerve blocks. Financially, that is the
most expensive cost with CRPS along with any doctor s visits. Because it could cause more
damage to do surgery, it is out of the question for that to be a financial issue. CRPS is possibly
one of the least expensive conditions to have as far as treatment

Carl Menger s Principles Of Economics
Carl Menger has been given credit to the modern Austrian Economic model. He wrote Principles of
Economics in 1871 (Snowdon and Vane 474). What separates Austrian Economics from other
schools of thought is the emphasis put individuality. The individual is the driving force of the
Austrian school of thought. Because of this, Austrian Economicsis very subjective. The needs of
one individual differ from those of another individual. Put simply, people will want to better their
lives. Manoj Singh said that One more extra dollar in the hands of a billionaire would hardly make
any difference, although the same dollar would be invaluable in the hands of a pauper (Singh).
There is an incentive for people to better themselves.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an economy with no growth, the Austrians believe that the current level of savings is just enough
to offset capital depreciation. Also, in a no growth economy the consumable output (products that
business produce) is constant. This is represented in the first two periods of the graph. If savings
are in excess of capital depreciation, the economy grows. Period 3 shows the decrease in
consumable output when consumer preferences change in favor of savings. The assumption is that
because businesses are not producing as many products, they have freed up resources. The Austrians
would say they need to invest these freed up resources into their company in order to eventually
increase their level of consumable outputs at an increased rate in conjunction with the future
increase in consumption brought about by the current increase in savings. This is depicted in
period 4 and continues throughout the end of the graph.
These three graphs are the model that Austrians use to determine output and interest rates in the
economy. The graph on the top left represents the stages of production by firms with stages of
production on the x axis and consumable output (goods) on the y axis. In the economy some
products require fewer stages of production than others. At each stage of production there are more
goods produced, but only up to the hypotenuse. If the economy

Describe the three dedicated circuit network architectures discussed in the textbook. Explain the
strengths and weaknesses of each. Ring Architecture. Has a closed loop with all PC s linked to
the next one. Circuits are full duplex or half duplex, which allows messaging in both directions
around the ring. The fall back is the time in which message can take to travel around the ring
from the sender to a receiver, since the messages have to pass through several different
computers and circuits, concluding in traffic delays which can pile up quickly. Star Architecture
connects all the PCs to a central PC which acts as the message router to an appropriate PC. It s
easier to manage because of the central PC receiving and routing all the messages in the desired
network. This allows the communication to be faster than ring architecture since it only travels
through two circuits to reach the receiver. However, having only one central pc can create more
problems since its in change of all the messages on the network. This creates room for overload in
traffic and could potentially decrease performance overall. Mesh Architecture has every PC
connected to very other PC. This is a Full mesh network, and it s biggest downfall is the high price.
However, partial mesh most PC, but not all are connected to each other. Although it combines star
and ring, if

What Was Thomas Jefferson A Success Or Failure
Leo Mayora
Mrs.Stanton Per 4 US History
Common Core Essay
27 November, 2017
Thomas Jefferson is widely recognized as one of the great heroes of American history. Even
Jefferson himself was aware of his historical importance, and to help define his legacy, he wrote his
own epitaph. On his tombstone, he wanted written Here was buried Thomas Jefferson Author of the
Declaration of American Independence, of the Statute of Virginia for religious freedom, Father of
the University of Virginia. Interestingly enough, he did not include the purchase of the Louisiana
Territory. Why would Jefferson fail to include the most important land acquisition in U.S. history as
among his greatest accomplishments? As president, he authorized this purchase, ultimately
considered one of the greatest real estate deals ever made. A mere $15 million dollars doubled the
size of the United States, acquiring economic resources, strategic advantages, and political power. It
also removed obstacles to westward expansion, setting the nation on the road to become a
continental power. Why would Jefferson not recognize this as a significant personal
accomplishment? Did he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was not specific language in the Constitution that authorized the government to make such
acquisitions of foreign territory, so many people viewed Jefferson s actions as unconstitutional.
They also viewed it as hypocritical, given his previously strict constructionist stance and heavy
criticism of others for stepping beyond the bounds of the Constitution. Jefferson made many
attempts to validate the authorization, arguing, for instance, that What is practicable must often
control what is pure theory. He meant that the practical benefits of the purchase were more
important than his own personal constitutional beliefs. Certainly, although controversial, the
purchase of Louisiana allowed the United States to flourish in ways that one could not have

Many corporation controllers are CA s. A controller is an upper level executive whose tasks include
planning, coordinating and assessing all activities in accounting, auditing, financial control and
budgeting. A controller is responsible for the organization of the management and supervising their
decision making. They also participate in devising the financial and administrative policies of the
company. Soon enough it may eventually lead to positions such as Vice President Finance or
Treasurer and even President.
Government Opportunities
There are also many opportunities for a Chartered Accountant in all levels of government. Federal
and provincial departments regularly employ CA s for such positions as treasurers, chief
accountants, auditors, budget analysts, financial management officers and financial analysts.
Government accountants prepare budgets, track costs and analyze financial statements. Most CA s
chose to work at firms or corporations other than for the government mostly because of the pay.
They can achieve much more money than the government offers although the government
provides many health and security benefits. CA s have lots of mobility and freedom. It s quite
easy for them to quit a job and find another one the next day since there is a constant demand for
experienced CA s. The pay involved in

Introduction
The three communication theories I have applied to provide the most insight into understanding the
dynamics of the observed conversation between two people are; the transmission model (Shannon
Weaver 1949), Foulger s ecological model (Foulger 2004), and an expanded model of
communication (Eunson 2012).
In this essay I have used a conversation I had listened to which was between my friend (from
here on will be named George) and his friend (from here on will be named Mark). Problems that
arose during the conversation will be explained as well as how George and Mark overcame them.
From there the essay will compare and contrast the three communication theories and decide which
of these best simplify the conversation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Figure 2: An Ecological Model of the Communication (Source: Foulger 2004)
Eunson s expanded model of communication is more complex than Foulger s as well as Shannon
and Weaver s models, though it is more appropriate to this conversation had between George and
Mark due to the fact it shows that in order for the communication to happen the sender must pre
edit and then encode the message pass the message onto the receiver where he decodes and edits
the message. Eunson also takes into account the use of mechanical, behavioural and semantic
factors of encoding, and understands that if the message is to be understood the receiver must be
able to decode the message. This is particularly relevant, and highly important to this conversation
between George and Mark due to the factors mentioned before.
Context
Figure 3: An expanded model of communication (Source: Eunson 2012)
Conclusion
I have found Shannon and Weavers transactional model too simple and cannot evaluate the
complexities of this situation, and that Foulger s model too broad and not able to focus on the
problems that need to be addressed.
Therefore, I believe that Eunson s expanded model of communication is the most adequate to use
out of the three models that were written about because Eunson s model has shown how a message
from George is first pre edited

  • 3. Examples Of Determinism In Arrival Determinism and Free Will in Arrival If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things? This is one of the heaviest hitting questions in the movie Arrival and it serves as the philosophical launching point for my discussion here. This question comes from the main character Louise directed at her future husband. As the movie progresses, we as viewers learn that the main character Louise has been given the ability to see into the future. Part of these visions include the death of her future daughter to a rare disease at a young age. Yet, even though she can see these events of the future and even though she knows of the pain and suffering they will bring, she still chooses to follow the same course of her life because she recognizes some type of greater purpose. It is through the actions and decisions of Louise that this movie explicitly explores the notion of whether knowledge of future events would affect or negate our concept of free will as human beings. Like Ted Chiang s short story entitled The Story of You Life that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rowlands discusses this in Chapter 9 of his book and he argues that this concept allows us to understand what it means to be a human being and how we are to achieve authenticity in our lives. Namely, this type of thinking causes us to live in the light of our death. To do so, we require a different understanding of time, one that transcends our standard linear notions of a past, present, and future. By having a being towards death understanding, we begin to see everything in relation to the now. This understanding applies directly to our understanding of our mortality. As finite beings, this mindset makes us confront our finite nature and creates a sense of meaning through the reality of death. It is through this realization that we find our meaning and true ... • 5. Identifying The Devils In Rachel Carson s Silent Spring Arnold Schweitzer once said man can hardly even recognize the devils in his own creation . This is the point that Rachel Carson argues throughout her book Silent Spring. Carson believes that though the scientific revolutions that occurred since the turn of the 19th century may seem to be solely beneficial, they have disastrous repercussions. In particular, Carson claims that man s newly established ability to have dominion over natureputs the world in a dangerous position. If humans let the power of controlling nature get to their head and refuse to attempt to understand the possible consequences of their actions, the Earth is destined to turn into a contaminated wasteland. She argues that if mankind continues to believe that it is superior to all around it and thereby continues to rapidly and impetuously alter nature to fit its own desires, then man is using scienceand technology to catalyze its own doom. However, Carson does not view... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To her, nature and science are not mutually exclusive and can exist in tandem. Rather than seeing themselves as above nature and seeking to control it, they are observing it and its patterns to obtains a solution. Therefore the problem for Carson lies in the human superiority that has developed alongside the expansion of science. She criticizes the human desire for the control of nature which she believes is a phrase born of arrogance and instead opt for, as Dr. Briejer says, humbleness . There is a tendency in American culture to equate success with happiness. Success is the core of American society, as it drives innovation and motivates people to work harder in order to achieve their goals but at what cost? When striving for success, people tend to neglect other important areas of their lives such as their health, emotional well being and more importantly their loved ones. The literary works of The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald; the play Death of a Salesman written by Arthur Miller and Jon Krakauer s novel, Into the Wild, depict the value of non material, intangible possessions. The three pieces exhibit characters who neglect their loved ones and are quick to escape intimacy once they are able to obtain a wealth and status or other desires. Consequently, the stories show that the pressure to appear successful often times inhibits people from attaining the authentic joy of relationships. Placing high value on social status promotes artificial happiness, which proves to be less fulfilling than pursuing genuine human connections. In The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway narrates the tragic story of Jay Gatsby, who devotes his life to his dream of reconnecting with his lost love Daisy Buchanan. In today s order, our correctional facilities are nothing like they were a long time ago. Foremost, the federal, state and local governments have a monopoly over our criminal justice systems and incarceration. This includes defining crimes, apprehending and prosecuting criminals, and then deciding what to do with the convicts. During imprisonment, government control is downright. Despite variation in the means, methods, goals and dreams of the many prison reform organizations, most of them out of necessity have a big government focus. (John Dewar Gleissner, 2012) Still, the shift must eventually be away from heavy government and towards decentralization, local control, individual initiative, competition and evidence based punishments in public. Why? Because that is what worked in the yesteryear. American and world history provides fully documented successful evidence based practices, not with studies or social science, but in the more critical world of practical application over the centuries. Irving dispersed many beliefs and legends of his time, and the past, into his stories. He also made great use of American themes in these literary pursuits. Such details along with existent people and events interlaced in his imaginary tales are some of the reasons I find his work so distinctive and enjoyable. Washington Irvingwas the youngest of eleven children, born into a somewhat wealthy New York City merchant family in 1783. In his twenties, he wrote for newspapers, journals, and magazines. Shortly afterward, he worked in publishing and editing. As the first American belletrist, Erving found great enjoyment in writing. His first notable book, (which he heralded the release of with a fanciful precursor,) was A History of New York (1809). It was published under one of his many clever pseudonyms, (faux historian), Diedrich Knickerbocker. When Irving was thirty six years old, the simultaneous publications of The ... Boldly original and thematically ambitious, what set American Pie apart had a lot to do with the way we weren t entirely sure what the song was about, provoking endless debates over its epic cast of characters. His eight minute long rock and rollAmerican dream became an anthem for an entire generation who memorized every line. Children grew up singing it fascinated by the mysterious lyrics with their cryptic references to 50s innocence, the turbulent 60s, and 70s disillusion. Who broke the church bells? Who was the jester who sang for the king and queen? And what really was revealed the day the music died ? When people ask Don McLean what does American Pie really mean, he likes to reply: It means I never have to work again. Passion for the song can be derived from the fact that there are fan websites entirely dedicated to solving these mysteries. Even the most gifted accountants find that grasping the entire concept of accounting for a corporation can be very mind boggling and difficult. Unfortunately, not all companies are as benign and have the ability to define all their variables, especially when their product is so diverse and complex. Gupta states, in virtual enterprises it is important to adopt a costing system based on performance and indentifying critical success factors and tracing the measures and metrics to those factors that would ultimately lead to an improved organizational performance and competitiveness and value (Gupta , 2005). Simply put, due to companies evolving, their way of measuring their success can be better understood through a CVP analysis. But, due to the complexities and many assumptions created by that analysis, I would have to disagree. Gupta also states, the cost and performance measures in New Enterprises have to focus on delivering value rather than merely trying to establish the historical cost (2005). I find this statement very relevant because historical cost only allows the company to see the beginning and the end, and separates them from the present. Understanding the present and ongoing cost is important in determining value of a product and corporation because it possesses the true and present success. Some of the assumptions of CVP as outlined by accountingformanagenment are: selling price is constant regardless of volume change, costs are linear, with multi products the sales mix is constant, and manufacturing companies inventories do not change (N.D.). If savings are in excess of capital depreciation, the economy grows. Period 3 shows the decrease in consumable output when consumer preferences change in favor of savings. The assumption is that because businesses are not producing as many products, they have freed up resources. This allows the communication to be faster than ring architecture since it only travels through two circuits to reach the receiver. However, having only one central pc can create more problems since its in change of all the messages on the network. This creates room for overload in traffic and could potentially decrease performance overall. Mesh Architecture has every PC connected to very other PC. This is a Full mesh network, and it s biggest downfall is the high price. However, partial mesh most PC, but not all are connected to each other. Although it combines star and ring, if ... What Was Thomas Jefferson A Success Or Failure Leo Mayora Mrs.Stanton Per 4 US History Common Core Essay 27 November, 2017 Thomas Jefferson is widely recognized as one of the great heroes of American history. Even Jefferson himself was aware of his historical importance, and to help define his legacy, he wrote his own epitaph. On his tombstone, he wanted written Here was buried Thomas Jefferson Author of the Declaration of American Independence, of the Statute of Virginia for religious freedom, Father of the University of Virginia. Interestingly enough, he did not include the purchase of the Louisiana Territory. Why would Jefferson fail to include the most important land acquisition in U.S. history as among his greatest accomplishments? As president, he authorized this purchase, ultimately considered one of the greatest real estate deals ever made. A mere $15 million dollars doubled the size of the United States, acquiring economic resources, strategic advantages, and political power. It also removed obstacles to westward expansion, setting the nation on the road to become a continental power. Why would Jefferson not recognize this as a significant personal accomplishment? Did he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was not specific language in the Constitution that authorized the government to make such acquisitions of foreign territory, so many people viewed Jefferson s actions as unconstitutional. They also viewed it as hypocritical, given his previously strict constructionist stance and heavy criticism of others for stepping beyond the bounds of the Constitution. Jefferson made many attempts to validate the authorization, arguing, for instance, that What is practicable must often control what is pure theory. He meant that the practical benefits of the purchase were more important than his own personal constitutional beliefs. • 46. Essay and referencing Introduction The three communication theories I have applied to provide the most insight into understanding the dynamics of the observed conversation between two people are; the transmission model (Shannon Weaver 1949), Foulger s ecological model (Foulger 2004), and an expanded model of communication (Eunson 2012). In this essay I have used a conversation I had listened to which was between my friend (from here on will be named George) and his friend (from here on will be named Mark). Problems that arose during the conversation will be explained as well as how George and Mark overcame them. From there the essay will compare and contrast the three communication theories and decide which of these best simplify the conversation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Figure 2: An Ecological Model of the Communication (Source: Foulger 2004) Eunson s expanded model of communication is more complex than Foulger s as well as Shannon and Weaver s models, though it is more appropriate to this conversation had between George and Mark due to the fact it shows that in order for the communication to happen the sender must pre edit and then encode the message pass the message onto the receiver where he decodes and edits the message. Eunson also takes into account the use of mechanical, behavioural and semantic factors of encoding, and understands that if the message is to be understood the receiver must be able to decode the message. This is particularly relevant, and highly important to this conversation between George and Mark due to the factors mentioned before. Context Figure 3: An expanded model of communication (Source: Eunson 2012) Conclusion I have found Shannon and Weavers transactional model too simple and cannot evaluate the complexities of this situation, and that Foulger s model too broad and not able to focus on the problems that need to be addressed. Therefore, I believe that Eunson s expanded model of communication is the most adequate to use out of the three models that were written about because Eunson s model has shown how a message from George is first pre edited ...
