Hamlet as So Much More Than a Traditional Revenge Tragedy...
Hamlet as So Much More Than a Traditional Revenge Tragedy
Although Shakespeare wrote Hamlet closely following the conventions of a traditional revenge
tragedy, he goes far beyond this form in his development of Hamlet s character. Shakespeare s
exploration of Hamlet s complex thoughts and emotions is perhaps more the focus of the play
rather than that of revenge, thus in Hamlet Shakespeare greatly develops and enhances the form of
the traditional revenge tragedy.
The main source of Hamlet is Saxo Grammaticus Historiae Danicae, a folk tale that has a similar
plot to Hamlet; however, Shakespeare greatly transforms this story of revenge when creating
Hamlet. Shakespeare also draws upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The revenge ghost is a convention Kyd took from Seneca s tragedies, and in fact, Don Andrea has
similar parallels to the ghost of Achilles in Seneca s play Troades.
The first appearance of the old king s ghost in the opening scene of Hamlet would have been
suggestive of a revenge tragedy to an Elizabethan audience. However, the ghost does not demand
revenge as Don Andrea does, but rather adds to the uncertainty and sense of foreboding in the
scene. The play begins in a bitter cold night, bringing a sense of pathetic fallacy to the scene, as
the setting adds to the sense of trouble in Denmark, as described by Horatio and Marcellus. It is
not until Act I, Scene V that the ghost appears to Hamlet, demanding revenge [for] his foul and
most unnatural murder, and thus introducing the theme of revenge in Hamlet. Although Hamlet
proclaims that [he will] sweep to [his] revenge, he does not take his revenge until the final scene
of the play. Hamlet s inaction and delay of his revenge is paralleled in The Spanish Tragedy,
however the reasons for delay in Hamlet are somewhat different.
In The Spanish Tragedy, immediately after Hieronimo discovers his son s body he claims that it is
only in revenge [his] heart would find relief, and

Introduction. This Is One Of The Many Problems California
Introduction This is one of the many problems California has been facing even today. Drought has
been a growing problem in California each year. How to tackle this problem is up to government
and many scientists. There have been many case studies determining how and why drought has
devastated the state of California. Water is a necessary and most important resource in California.
Our water comes from groundwater, rivers, or lakes. Since California is facing a tremendous
droughtthese resources are becoming destroyed. Now there is low measures of water in these
lakes and rivers where we receive our water from. There are agencies that help deliver water to the
major cities which all comes from those lakes and reservoirs. What happens when... Show more

What is drought? What causes/affects drought? What things are essential to stop drought? What
will it take to stop drought in California? Will there be money needed? Are there any programs
started to reduce drought? Will the government be involved and what they will do? There will be
laws/regulations needed to prevent drought. Also I believe we as people need to change our habits
and not waste water.
Methods I will utilize this paper by using academic resources, governmental resources, and
newspaper resources. I have gathered a lot of information in relation to drought like from the
Drought Brochure. This brochure explains what a drought is, also talks about the history of
droughts. Furthermore It explains how a draught is caused and the relationship between
groundwater and drought. My academic sources and newspaper sources gave a good insight how
the California drought was caused. There was a lot of information on climate change and
temperatures. As I researched for drought causation mostly everything was on climate change. I
managed to find a great article that talked about the causes of drought lead by climate change and
global warming. I also took advantage of my library sources, I discussed drought with David
Drexler who is in the water resource association he helped clarify where we get our water from,
what type of drought is occurring in California, and what a drought is.

How ELT Has Helped Make English the Global Language
How ELT has Helped Make English the Global Language
Standardization of English Controversies It is not difficult to determine why English began its
rise as the predominant language in the world. Britain, the progenitor of the language, once
bragged that the Sun never set on the British Empire. This is true in that the empire stretched to
all areas of the globe, and the nation of England had influence beyond just its possessions.
Because the conquerors spoke English, many of the citizens learned to at least use a few simple
phrases that would allow them to take the better jobs offered by the English. This same scenario
has happened since the United States has become the world superpower. In areas such as
commerce and science, it is almost non negotiable that a person has to learn English to survive. The
global climate dictates that there must be a single language which everyone can turn to as that
spoken in a particular discipline. Because of the economic superiority of the United States over
the past 50 years, and the fact that the US has also dominated many fields within science, English
is spoken by many people around the world. However, it is a second language. The fact is that
English is not the preeminent first language. Chinese Mandarin has far more native speakers than
any other language in the world (Lovgren, 2004). Of course, just the sheer volume of Chinese
make this a certainty, but many of these people still speak English as a second language because

Thesis: The Government and other related parties should label GMO s because it would be in the

I.When it comes to owning the seed for collecting royalties, the GMO companies say it s mine but
when it comes to contamination, cross pollution, health problems, the response is we are not liable

clear picture of what GMO s have done to our food
IV.Forecast Development and Organization
a.I will begin with when GMO s were introduced into the food system; our current food system is
effected by them in many ways.
b.My second point will be about GMO s and how they have a negative effect on people. (Truth =
Constitution)
c.My third point will be about how GMO s impact our food and that it will have a detrimental
impact concerning the future of food. (Justice = Constitution (You cannot oppose me and uphold
the Constitution)) (Transition: Now let s move on to where the problem began)
BODY
I.GMO s were introduced into the food system for several reasons and they have affected that
system in many ways.
a.GMO s were introduced for the first time in the mid 90 s. Again, some of you may know this
information but I am going to go through it quickly.
i.GMO s were created to offer increased yield, drought tolerance, enhanced nutrition, or any other
consumer benefit. ii. Monsanto (the creator of the GM seed) says that they simply want to make
the seed and plant resistant to disease and pets, withstand harsh weather conditions, and increase
shelf life (discover.monsanto.com, 2015).
b.Currently GM crops in our food system include soy (94%), cotton (90%), canola (90%), sugar

Evolutionary Concepts Activity 6 Essay
Evolutionary Concepts Activity 6 1. Evolutionary theory describes how populations change over
time due to changes in the gene pool. There are several mechanisms that can change a gene pool
and allow evolution to occur. Natural selection, mutation, gene flow and genetic drift are some of
the driving forces behind evolutionary change. Natural selection and genetic drift are the
mechanisms that decrease genetic variation, whereas gene flow and mutation are the driving
mechanism to increase genetic variation. Natural selection is basically the understanding that the
environment can not support unlimited population growth, and not all organisms are able to
reproduce to their full potential due to trait variation. For example, a black fly may... Show more

2. Allopatric speciation occurs due to a geographic isolation process such as when a pond might
dry up and create two ponds, a flood, a river is re routed, or a bird carries seeds in its feathers and
drops the seeds in new location during the birds migration. The species of the previous geographic
location also become reproductively isolated. The population then becomes two separate
populations and begins to change over time due to changes in the gene pool, environments, natural
selection and mutations. With this understanding it is possible to see that plate tectonics theory and
continental drift theory possibly resulted in allopatric speciation.
Continental drift was a theory offered by Alfred Wegener in 1912 that hypothesized that all the
continents at one time fit together as one land mass. Wegener, explained that the ends of each
continent could fit together like a puzzle and that over time the continents drifted apart. The
model explained why the same types of fossils occur in sedimentary rock on both sides of the
vast Atlantic Ocean (Star, 2008, pg. 250), in other words allopatric speciation. Wegener s theory
did not have a supporting geological mechanism. Many years later and advances in technology
brought about the plate tectonics theory. Essentially it says: the earth surface is covered by a series
of crustal plates the ocean floors are continually moving, spreading from the

African Leaders Established The Organisation Of African...
Introduction
In the 21st Century, the African continent leaders wanted to establish a more united continent. It
is for this reason that the African leaders established the Organisation of African Unity in 1963,
with the purpose of eradicating colonialism in Africa, and harmonize and deepen collaboration
efforts of member states to achieve a better life for its people. A number of problems emerged
such as the 1975 Angolan civil war and the Somalia invasion of Ethiopia 1978, besides most
African economies were on the decline, these issues among others weakened the competence of
the OAU. Beginning of 1999 certain leaders began to question why the OAU failed to prevail and
resolve the social ills that afflicted Africa (Bujra 2002) Therefore, the OAU was scrapped and the
African Union was established on 9th July 2002 with the key objective of upholding peace, security
and stability on the African continent. Ever since, the AU has launched military operations to help
control clashes in Burundi, Sudan, Somalia and the Comoros. This paper will discuss the Darfur
Crisis which militarily escalated in 2003. The deployment of AMIS took place in a complex context
representing the first real test of the AU s peacekeeping capacity ,( Ouguergouz Yusufu 2012, p.

religious conflict between the Muslim North and the Christian/Animist South, the conflict is driven

Man Against Nature In Jack London s To Build A Fire
Man against Nature: A Look Into To Build a Fire by Jack London
Introduction
The human being has in most instances tried to outdo nature through creativity and innovation.
Man s fight against nature is endlessly continuous and determined. It is of great significance that
man understands that this competition with nature in the face of such overwhelming odds is
insignificant. A clear cut example of this unproductive struggle is a story by Jack London, To Build
a Fire whereby he uses man versus nature to support his primary theme that our struggle against
nature is vastly unequal one that leaves little or no margin for error (London, 25).
To prove this theme Jack London, in his book puts a man in an environment he is unfamiliar with.
In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
London says, In reality, it was not merely colder than 50 below zero; it was colder than 60 below
than 70 below. It was 75 below zero. Because the freezing point is 32 above zero, it meant that
there were 107 degrees of frost , the extreme temperatures that led to the death of the man. The
man also despite the warning of the likely dangers of such cold weather, he had his argument. He
in his mind stated, All a man had to do was to keep his head, and he was all right (London, 71).
Any man who was a man could travel alone. In this instance, the man backing on his intellect and
reasoning power to overcome nature. The fact that he is unable to overcome the adverse weather
conditions at his disposal is an indication of why man cannot outwit nature. Despite his knowledge
and reasoning ability, the man is trapped, and even his attempts to light a fire to warm himself are
thwarted by the same nature. He freezes to the point that he cannot do anything.
The dog in the story is seen to be much concerned and worried about the weather than the man
who can think and make decisions. London says, But the animal sensed the danger. Its fear made
it questions eagerly every movement of the man as if expecting him to go into camp or to seek
shelter somewhere and build a fire. The dog is dreadful of the generally harsh environment

Warleggen s Waiver Case Study
Warleggen s waiver is valid under public policy because it clearly, unambiguously, and
unmistakably informed the Poldarks of what was being waived. The injuries sustained by the
Poldarks are consistent with those injuries covered within the waiver they signed prior to
spelunking. The waiver covers Mr. Poldark s injuries within the RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH
THE SPELUNKING . . . language of the text.
A waiver must clearly, unambiguously, and unmistakably inform a signer of what is being
waived. Atkins v. Swimwest Family Fitness Ctr., 2005 WI 4 В¶ 18. A waiver must be
unambiguous as to which rights are waived. Yauger v. Skiing Enterprises, INC., 206 Wis. 2d 76,

Warleggen s waiver distinguishes itself from the waiver in Roberts in that Warleggen s waiver
includes activity leading up to spelunking and cave tours, like the car or van travel to and from
the site , while also including the phrase ordinary negligence directly in the types of risks that are
included in spelunking. In Roberts, it was unclear to the court if the waiver covered activities
before and after entering the hot air balloon. Unlike in Brooten, Warleggen s waiver does not
followed the term negligence with OR ANY OTHER CAUSE. Warleggen s decision to omit that
phrase precludes the possibility for an overly broad interpretation, like construing the waiver to
release incidents involving recklessness and intentional conduct. If the waiver was overly broad
and extended beyond ordinary negligence, the clause would be invalid under public policy. The
waiver also includes ... ALL RISK[S] ASSOCIATED WITH SPELUNKING OR CAVING
EXCURSION..., which would seem to cover reckless or intentional conduct, but the sentence
preceding it describes what spelunking or caving excursion activities are and clearly states only
ordinary negligence is included. The waiver sets out the common activities included in spelunking
and cave excursions, while also specifically covering the activities that are common to spelunking.
Furthermore, the waiver language Risks include, but are not limited to. . . advised the Poldarks
that there were other risks to contemplate, distinguishing itself from the Atkins waiver which made
it difficult to ascertain what was in the plaintiff s and the defendant s contemplation. Warleggen s
waiver is clear as to what is covered; it is unambiguous as to what key terms mean; and it is
unmistakable as to the injuries suffered by the Poldarks and the injuries that are covered. Since the
waiver meets the requirements set forth,

Ray Bradbury: His View on Technology
Ray Bradbury as a person has no particular fondness or aversion to technology, yet as a writer he
is disapproves of the way society has become so lazy and dependent on machinery. Bradbury warns
his readers of the consequences of technology. Technology is a wondrous invention that sparks
creativity in others, yet it has as much negative potential as it has positive potential. the same
technology that is used to make life simpler can cause nuclear destruction. Bradbury himself has no
particular fondness or aversion to technology, but his writing always warns of the consequences of

Bradbury predicts what technology could do to society through the morals of The Veldt, The
Pedestrian, and There Will Come Soft Rains.
In his story, The Veldt , Bradbury displays the terrors of America s devotion to material goods
and how it affects society s technology usage. The story is centered on an average American
family of four living in a futuristic smart house. The house has a device called the nursery, which
is a sort of metaphor for the television. The nursery is triggered my images in the mind of the
controller and produces holographic images onto the walls of the room. After the pampered
Peter and Wendy Hadley are denied a trip on a helicopter, they begin to envision a sweltering,
African veldt. This veldt seems to represent the psychological sate of the Hadley family. Bradbury
s description of the veldt is so vivid that it seems as if the children were actually in an African
savannah and not daydreaming in the middle of the United States. Those two children are said to
have a rather high intelligence in the story, yet they do not seem to act maturely. This fact is
evident in

George Washington (1732 99) was commander in chief of the Continental Army during the
American Revolutionary War (1775 83) and served two terms as the first U.S. president, from
1789 to 1797. The son of a prosperous planter, Washington was raised in colonial Virginia. As a
young man, he worked as a surveyor then fought in the French and Indian War (1754 63). During
the American Revolution, he led the colonial forces to victory over the British and became a
national hero. In 1787, he was elected president of the convention that wrote the U.S. Constitution.
Two years later, Washington became America s first president. Realizing that the way he handled
the job would impact how future presidents approached the position, he handed down a legacy of
strength, integrity and national purpose. Less than three years after leaving office, he died at his
Virginia plantation, Mount Vernon, at age 67.

Analysis Of The Genius Of Alexander The Great
Throughout history, leaders have been recognized for how prosperous or unsuccessful they have
been in their efforts. People, particularly, have come to understand that Alexander was none the
less a powerful and diligent man. He follows all aspect of what it means to be strong willed.
Alexander was a man of courage and influence who strived to complete all that he put his mind to.
Ian Worthington writes. In 334 he invaded Persia, and within a decade he had defeated the Persians,
subdued Egypt, and pushed on to Iran, Afghanistan, and even India (64). When one sees a man of
abundant success it is hard to not give that person credit; however, should his steps to success be
looked over, or taken into detailed consideration. Does the end justify the means or vice versa?
The issue with this idea is the fact that Alexander was in fact great. You cannot overlook the
amount of success Alexander had gained over the years. Per contra to the amount of triumph that
radiates from Alexander, one may argue that respectable morals are without a doubt absent during
his lifetime which strips him of this undeserving name. Is it right to get somewhere the easy way
or should a great leader make all decisions in favor of health and well being within himself and his
people? Throughout the articles The Genius of Alexander the Great by N. G. L. Hammond and
How Great was Alexander? by Ian Worthington, the reader receives a deeper understanding of what
it truly means to be great.

Danny Archer s Blood Diamond
In the beginning of Blood Diamond, the protagonist, Danny Archer, a white South African
diamond smuggler, is a man who cares only for himself. This personality trait makes sense
because he has unfortunately been alone for the majority of his life. His mother and father were
both violently killed when Danny was just nine years old. From then on, he had to learn how to
survive on his own, without anyone to support him, and with that he developed selfish
characteristics. When he was a young adult, he fought in the war, which did not help with his
selfishness. This most likely made it worse because hypothetically people that he got close to were
killed in battle. As an adult he lives a life smuggling diamonds to make money for himself, even

doctor someday? Maybe his baby dies in that camp, maybe his daughter gets raped. Who knows,
maybe both. Do you realize that that diamond is his only chance of getting his family out of
here. Danny realizes how much Solomon needs to find his family, and it is his first time
understanding this because he never had a family for himself. Danny s objective shifts little by

Throughout their mission to find the diamond, Danny watches Solomon risk his life everyday

What Is The Legacies Of Henry V s Life
William Shakespeare s play Henry V showcases Henry IV s son Henry V life as the new king,
after his father s death, and how he is going to fix his country after his dad left England in a bad
state with may rebellions and made enemies with other countries. Ideal leadership, generosity, and
cruelty are all things that describe Henry, but after watching the play, one would feel as if they
have seen this before. His character is the embodiment of Alexander the Great. Although
Shakespeare was historically accurate in most of his play, Henry Vs life is weirdly identical to
Alexander s life. The two kings succeed their fathers and faced the same challenges. Their values
on life and wars they fought left behind amazing legacies that differ from each other but are
similar in multiple ways. Henry V s story was shaped mostly by the life of Alexander, which
Shakespeare took inspiration from and made England s Great King, Henry V, a legacy that will

Mental and Social Disorder Essay
One in every seventeen people in America suffers from a mental disorder. These disorders inhibit
the afflicted person from functioning properly and coping normally with daily life. Many afflicted
with a psychological disorder do not exhibit obvious symptoms, as medical advancements have
made it possible for these disorders to be suppressed or even nonexistent. Today, however, harsh
stigmas exist that unfairly categorize those with a mental illnessas violent, unfriendly, and abnormal.

News broadcasts and reports are equally culpable in their portrayal of mentally challenged
individuals. In the fight to gain an interested audience, reporters sell stories instead of simply telling
them. As a result, mental illness is overemphasized to elicit a stronger reaction from the audience.
A good story catches public attention either by focusing on conflict and controversy or by raising
issues of public safety all perspectives that may place journalists in direct conflict with mental health
advocates. News media, particularly newspapers, are among the most frequently identified sources
of mental health information. This gives them great scope to dispel inaccurate and stigmatizing
stereotypes perpetuated in the entertainment media or to reinforce and amplify them. Results show
that news representations of mental illness [...] are largely inaccurate and negative. Reporters
emphasize the violent, delusional and irrational behavior of people with a mental illness, and often
sensationalise headlines or story content in order to attract attention .
What makes this type of stigmatization so dangerous is that the news is generally accepted as

The Treatment Of Eating Disorders Essay
Eating disorders are one of the most common psychiatric illnesses in today s world, yet they
receive the least amount of attention. In the United States alone, approximately 8 million people
have currently been diagnosed with a clinically significant eating disorder while it is estimated
that over 20 million women and 10 million men have suffered from a clinically significant eating
disorder at some point in their lives (Crash Course). There is a huge disparity between the amount
of people who suffer from eating disorders and those that have actually been diagnosed and
treated for eating disorders. Why? Because despite being serious, and often deadly, mental
disorders, these psychiatric illnesses are often overlooked and unrecognized due to the lack of
accurate information available about them. Eating disorders are complex psychological disorders
that severely affect a person s physical and mental health and require intense, personalized
treatment. Eating disorders have existed throughout history, with only slight variances in incidence
and distribution. However, the frequency of eating disorders in the general population has been
steadily increasing since the 20th century (Crash Course). More than 50% of people have revealed
the use of unhealthy dieting techniques and chronic disordered eating patterns while at least 10%
of people (in the United States) have been diagnosed with a clinically significant eating disorder
(Stice, et al). As a result of the increased

Violations of Human Rights in the Arab-Israeli Conflict
Since the beginning of the Arab Israeli conflict there have been countless human rights violations
committed by both sides, but the majority of violations have been carried out by Israel against the
Palestinians. In looking at the conflict, one may believe that every attack has featured a human
rights violation, but in order to be able to properly determine what human rightsviolations are, one
must know the history of human rights and how they are protected. The idea of human rights
started with a man named Henri Dunant, who was a merchant present during the Battle of Solferino
in Italy. In viewing this battle from a distance, Henri was disturbed by the mass amounts of dead
and injured soldiers that were left without treatment. He... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The UN Human Rights Council was formed at the 2005 World Summit and has the mission of
investigating human rights violations around the world. The Rights Council works in conjunction
with the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court to prevent and deal with

2006, which calls all parties that are engaged in armed conflict to follow The Hague Conventions
of 1899 and 1907 and Protocols I and II from the Geneva Conventions. In adopting this resolution
the UN Security Council wanted to focus on the protection of civilians during armed conflict and

By leaving a few minor loose ends Ives lets readers construct their own back story for the
characters. This uncertainty heightens the play s richness because it makes the play unique and
individualized to each different reader and audience member. Ed s motivations relate to both the
richness of the play and the play s gravity and pertinence. The gravity of the play refers to the
importance of a play s theme, while a play s pertinence refers to the story s concern with the
human predicament. One of the reasons Ed morphs into Degas is to combat his own feelings of
anonymity and his lack of purpose. Being someone great, being someone immortal brings a sense
of freshness to his entire life. When he wakes up in the morning he is mesmerized by his
surroundings. This is wonderful! In the bathroom, everything seems transformed yet nothing has
changed he observantly remarks (pg 22). To him, even the very porcelain pullulates with
possibilities (pg 22). Yet as the day comes to end his Degas persona slips away from him. Ed
laments that though he always has a voice in his head now, tonight, no one is listening (pg 31). He
notes: That presence that always listened in at the back of my mind is no longer there. Nor is there
a presence behind there listening in. Nor a presence behind that, nor behind that,

Dog Training Advice And College Study Advice
Teaching a dog to lay down seems different than studying for a Biology exam, but online advice on
both topics are surprisingly similar. Both dog training advice and college studying advice include
the need for consistency, frequency, and repetition, along with using both types of reinforcement.
Despite these similarities, dogs and students differ in what they are learningand how exactly they
show that they have learned. Advice to college students and dog trainers are comparable in
fundamental ways; their methods and reactions to conditioning are similar but what exactly the
person or dog is learning can make it seem as if the two types of advice have very little in
common. Studying and dog training advice both include the need for frequency, consistency, and
repetition. The ASPCA (n.d.) states that, once a dog has learned a trick, trainers should regularly
test the dog throughout the day to ensure the dog remembers how to perform it. Dogs also learn
quicker when using the same phrases each training session, such as using only lay down for a
command versus mixing it with get down . Finally, the ASPCA also recommends that training
sessions should be kept relatively short; trainers should only practice a new trick five to fifteen
times before switching to a previously learned trick ( Training Your Dog ). Dog training advice is
fundamentally based on these three ideas; frequency, consistency, and repetition speed the rate at
which a dog can learn new material.

Marywood s Core Values In What Teachers Make And A Good Man
I have decided to compare the novel A Good Man with the poem What Teachers Make because
both have similar and different ways of showing some of Marywood s Core Values. A Good
Man is about Mark Shriver and his father and how his father had done many good deeds while
alive. These good deeds inspired Mark to become the person he was. In the poem What Teachers
Make, it is merely about how a teacher tries to prove a point that all teachers in general have a
greater purpose than most people believe. Both are great pieces of writing that show three of
Marywood s Core Values: Respect, Empowerment, and Excellence. Although both pieces of
writing have a strong way of portraying respect, they are done in different ways. In Mark Shriver s
book A Good Man, Sargent Shriver and his wife show respect by reaching out to black people and
people with disabilities. Sargent would always find a way or people to stop being racist towards the
blacks and trying to treat them as equal as everyone else. The same goes for Sargent s... Show more

an excellent life with so many achievements and selfless acts. In Taylor Mali s poem, the narrator

Alcohol is prepared through fermentation process using yeasts, and can yeild candida infections
and allergies as an outcome. Therefore, intake of wines, beers and ciders can be the primary reason
of candida infection and should be the number one thing to quit, which could be quite challenging
for majority who suffer from yeastinfections. I have mentioned this in other parts of this book as
well. Patients with candida have to give away their love for chocolates and candies, and discontinue

Problems of yeast infections in children
When the yeast syndrome is not correctly and timely detected in candida infected kid by a
medical practitioner (who does not comprehend or well informed about candida), he/she may
misinterpret the case as the kid patient is over active and has low level of learning capacity. A
well known pediatric, Dr.William Crook, the author of The Yeast Syndrome observed that his
young patients recovered notably as soon as their overgrown yeast is treated and they resume
back to a healthy and playful life. It is a sorry state of affairs that most of the child specialist
doctors do not have enough knowledge and expertise to diagnose child intestinal dybiosis to treat
the illness properly, as Dr.Crook did.

1. What is the crime that the video focuses on?
The kidnapping and death of Charles Lindbergh Jr. The son of Charles Lindbergh was abducted
from his family home in 1932.
2.What evidence did investigators have about the crime in the 1930s?
That whoever kidnapped the baby used a ladder leaned up against the right side of the baby s
unlocked window. Also that they silence the baby because the parents did not hear any sign of
struggle from the room. Also that the criminals left the ladder next to a service road and used a
car to get away. They also left a ransom note on the babys window demanding 50,000 dollars for
the baby s safe return. Plus threatening Lindberg if he involved the police.

John Knoll was heard talking about the town that Lindbergh lived in. Also talking about the name
Bruno. Plus the person that was given the ransom money was named John. The last thing is the
man who received the ransom money described the man and he looked just like John Knoll, and he
had an abnormality on his hand which John Knoll did too.
7. What evidence exists to suggest that Charles Lindbergh himself was involved in the kidnapping
and death of his son? Do you agree or disagree with this theory? Why?
Well for the kidnappers to know that the Lindberghs were at the house they had to have inside
source. Lindbergh did not trust the police, used his influence to control the police, and kept all
the ransom notes. Also Lindbergh was said to think that his son was not going to be healthy and
big like most men. His feelings of having an imperfect child could have caused him to be
involved. Yes i do agree with this theory because men tend to be like that. They let what other
people think get to them. A man like that who everyone thinks is perfect having an imperfect child
is a bad thing to him. He probably wanted to keep that position of people thinking he is perfect and
his family is too.

Simpsons is now credited as the longest runnning american show, with 384 episodes forming
eighteen seasons. It s longvity has not gone unnoticed either. The Simpsons has won many awards

successes The Simpsons as an icon can be analyzed with semiotics. They are symbolic, expressive,
and represent many different ideologies. The Simpsons are a yellow skinned family with 3
children, a dog, a cat, and 2 cars. They are a middle class family living in a small town,
Springfield. They represent the average middle class american family with each character in the
show representing another symbol separately. They take from real life, put a twist on the details
and then feed it back to the people so that they seem to mock and mimic the American Dream at the

The Last Major Overhaul Of Theu.s Tax Code
The last major overhaul of the U.S tax code took place over twenty eight years ago as part of the
Tax Reform Act of 1986. President Ronald Regan s Treasury Department proposed a tax neutral
reform with the definitive duty of simplifying the overall code. However, the absence of any reform
since then greatly reflects the United States current condition, in that The United States provides a
good example of an uncompetitive taxcode (Pomerleau Lundeen, 2014). The following will
examine the main components of the tax code that make a nations taxing system competitive. It
will then identify two parts of the code, that when combined create a disadvantageous environment
for any American business who competes internationally. Foremost, most nation s taxing systems
characteristically have five main features that either make them greatly competitive or not.
Competitiveness includes desirability for both the society and business activity. A nations corporate
rate, its consumption tax, property tax, the individual tax, and its international (global or territorial)
are what make up the core features of competiveness. But is the competiveness of a nation s taxing
system related for both industrialized and developing nations? The answer is yes, but not
completely.
The differences between industrialized, transitioning, and emerging countries are great, especially
from a taxing and economic standpoint. The terms industrialized or developed countries generally

TO WHAT EXTENT WAS THERE A MID TUDOR CRISIS DURING THE REIGNS OF
EDWARD VI AND MARY I? The mid Tudor crisis is a term often used by historians to describe
the reigns of Edward VI (1547 1553) and Mary I (1553 1558). This period can be seen as a crisis,
due to the fact that there were so many problems financially, socially, religiously and
constitutionally, which led to rebellions, and placed the country in a very unstable position. It is
clear that many of the origins of this crisis have their roots in the reign of Henry VIII. He left a
very difficult legacy to his successors, but it must be remembered that Somerset provoked the
problems already in existence and Northumberland and Mary I then had the difficult task of

Northumberland also established the Privy Coffer to provide contingency funds. Mary herself
reformed the customs and introduced the book of rates in 1558. There was also, as Guy
perceives a shift towards national finance . Although the period 1552 8 is still described as a
crisis, it must be remembered that there were some productive reforms and that the situation did
not decline. Historians such as Pollard who see government as sterile, impotent and unproductive
at this time do not seem to have taken into account these positive financial developments. It is
evident that Henry was at the root of the financial problems and that Somerset exacerbated them.
However the positive achievements of Northumberland and Mary must not be forgotten.
Somerset lacked charm and made enemies easily. His arrogance and pride created resentment.
He was a weak administrator who refused to listen to the experts. The crisis came for Somerset,
in 1559 when he failed to deal decisively with rebellions in the west and in Norfolk (which had
been partly caused by his own policies). As Dale Hoak points out his colleagues decided to get rid
of him at this point not because he supported the poor but because he was incompetent . When
Northumberland came into power, even though his reforms were far more extreme, with no

Biography Of Coretta Scott King
Coretta Scott King, an African American civil rights advocate, was born on April 27th, 1927 in
Perry County, Alabama. At a very young age, life for Coretta and her family was very difficult
being that her family was more successful than blacks in their area. Her father, Obadiah Scott, was
the first African Americanman to own a truck in this particular area which caused more hatred
against their family. Perry County was a very cruel place, Thanksgiving night in 1942 their house
was burned to the ground by white racists. Even though this and many other cruel events happened,
Obadiah and Bernice Scott, Scott s parents, continued to have faith.
In the Coretta Scott King Biography, Scott s early schooling was affected by segregation. Coretta
had to walk six miles to and from schools while others had bus transportation. After completing
the sixth grade, Coretta stated that her parents sent Edythe, her older sister, and her to Lincoln .
Lincoln was a semi private high school founded by slaves. Scott also mentioned how she had to
stay with other families so she could attend Lincoln and receive a better education . The white
teachers there saw worth in her which led to Coretta looking past what she experienced and
realized that under the skin were people with good hearts. Lincoln was considered a ray of hope
and an escape route for Coretta. This is the very place where she developed an interest in music
and, with the encouragement of her teachers, she pursed a career in it.

His constant use of reflections and vertical framing helps the audience to interpret the change of the
characters identities. Mirrors make for a visual confusion and could cause the audience to question
whether what they are seeing is reality or simply a reflection. Vertical framing and multiple images
of characters create an aesthetic view of characters identity and through film language visually
portrays them as trapped within the change and confusion of the cities identity as well as their own.
The repeated theme of expiry helps Wong Kar waito emphasise the anxiety of the expected changes

Rorty Vs Kant
Some philosophers, specifically pragmatists such as Rorty, disagree with Kantian ways of thinking
about the world. Unlike Kant, Rorty does not believe in the idea of the pure versus the empirical.
Nor does he believe in any dualism at all. Instead, he suggests the world cannot be divided and that
pragmatism is: an attempt to break down the distinction between the intrinsic and extrinsic features
of things. By thinking of everything as relational through and through, pragmatists attempt to get
rid of the contrast between reality and appearance (Rorty 72).
The intrinsic and extrinsic features are a reference to Kant s idea of the material and the abstract
worlds. There is not a line between reality and what appears to be reality, because they are the

Instead, it is created by one s observation and participation in the world. Darwin s theory of
evolution influenced Rorty s thoughts on the amount of certainty and uncertainty in existence,
specifically relating to Kant s ideas about dualism. As previously mentioned, Kant s abstract world
is filled with certainty and continues to be unchanging. In contrast, Rorty believes that Darwin s
idea of evolution can be applied to not only biological evolution, but also to the evolution of ideas
(Rorty 75). Thus, Rorty questions the amount of certainty one can truly experience. For example,
Rorty writes about how everything in human existence has gradually increas[ed in] complexity,
such as human language and biological features. In other words everything in the world is forever
evolving, and if this is true, there can be no real certainty in the world. In terms of morality, Rorty
disagrees with the Kantian belief of universally unchanging morals. For Rorty, morals do not exist
in a separate realm, and thus cannot derive from abstract reason. Rorty also states that, Once you

Problems like Dry scalp, flaky scalp and dandruff are quite common and this leads to loss of hair.
Another issue you may face is the excessive production of sebum. This leads to oily scalp
resulting in hair thinning. Your hair growth is affected by this as the pores of your scalp get clogged.
Neem oil acts as a remedy for all this. All you need to do is heat the oil. Make sure that it does not
boil. Use the warm oil to massage your scalp. Leave it for an hour following which you can have a
bath in warm water. Neem oil can be applied twice a week.
You may not like the smell of it. However, it is very effective and makes your hair stronger and
healthier.
Boil the leaves
Boil a handful of neem leaves in water. Allow the water to boil until there is a change in its
colour. This happens because the medicinal value of the leaves is extracted by the water. You
may remove the leaves once the water cools down. Wash your hair with this water right after you
apply shampoo. This method helps you to get rid of dandruff. It also leads to the opening up of all
the clogged pores.
Grind the leaves
You can also make a paste by grinding the leaves and use to cure hair

A New Idea For Furniture Pieces By Comparing The Red And...
It was the 1917 a period after the World War I when the De Stijl art movement in Netherlands
was born. It was a period where in the art and in the design communities were changing and
things starts to get the forms of the machine like. It was also the period of the Cubism which was
influencing al the new designs. Thanks to being neutral during the World War I, Netherlands artist
were able to focus on art that didn t reflect the dark moments of the war. The Schroder House and
its furniture are one of the best and true example of the De StijlArchitecture. They were designed
entirely by Gerrit Rietveld between 1919 1924. He was the main exponent of the movement.
This paper will present an analysis on how Rietveld was able to create a new idea for furniture
pieces using the principles of the De Stijl movement by comparing the Red and Blue Chair, the
Schroeder Table and the interior of the Schroeder House with the aid of images, sketches and
diagrams to better explain this comparison. I would like to start first with a little description of
the De Stijl art movement. De Stijl is translated in Dutch and it means The Style . It arose in the
twentieth century and it contributed to the history of the Modernism. Like said before it was the
period of the Cubism which influenced the art and design communities a lot, so De Stijl was
influenced by the principles of the Cubism as well. De Stijl wasn t like the other movement from
the past of from the same period, because it wasn t a

The Recruitment Process Methods
1. Introduction
The purpose of this academic assignment is to prepare a portfolio of documents that will illustrate
examples of most effectively practiced recruitment methods. Several documents that best reflected
efficient internal and external recruitment methods, productive interview design structures, useful
tests used in the selection process of recruitment and effective induction procedures were compiled.
The portfolio of documents will then be analyzed and examined so as to provide an in depth
understanding on the usefulness and importance of such recruitment methods on the recruitment
process.
Upon analysis and examination of the aforementioned documents, several suggestions to improve

Therefore, this specific aptitude test is effective as there is test reliability and validity (Bambach,
2010).
2.7. Personality Tests
Appendix F demonstrates the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality test. This test
allows recruiter to assess whether a candidate is Extraverted or Introverted, Sensitive or Intuitive,
more prone to Think or Feel and whether the candidate is more Perceptive or Judging. Such is
effective as the employer will be able to determine whether the personality of the candidate is
suitable with the job description of the vacant position and with the organizational culture of the
company (McShane Travaglione, 2007).
Appendix G illustrates the Big Five Personality Test. Similarly to the MBTI, the Big Five
Personality Test allows a recruiter to effectively determine the suitability of a potential candidate by
scoring the candidate s level of extroversion, neuroticism, conscientiousness, agreeableness and
openness (McShane Travaglione, 2007).
2.8. Effective Induction Procedures
Appendix H provides a very concise, informative and detailed induction schedule. This induction
schedule will serve as a very effective work procedure as it includes careful planning, introducing
the new employee to the company, supervised induction programme, meeting with Human
Resources to clarify employment conditions,

Factor Analysis Of Information Risk
Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR)
Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR) is a framework for understanding, analyzing and
measuring information risk (Violino, 2010). FAIR is a Value at Risk (VaR) model for cyber
security and operational risk and is considered an international standard by The Open Group. The
FAIR model quantifies information risk in financial terms using a scientific approach (RiskLens,
2015). Other risk models measure risk in qualitative terms based on the opinions of subject matter
experts, reliance on practitioner intuition and experience, industry lore and best practices (Violino,
2010). The primary components of the FAIR framework are a taxonomy for information risk,
standardized terms and definitions for information risk terms, data collection criteria, scales for
measuring risk factors, a computational engine for calculating risk, and a simulation model to
measure risk scenarios (Jones, 2005). The framework is used to develop threat modelled
information risk processes based on past experiences, up‐to‐date intelligence feeds,
recognition of trends, and a valuation of the organizational assets (Optimal Risk, 2015). Figure 1
Threat Modeled Risk Framework Source: (Optimal Risk, 2015)

manner and the taxonomy allows various teams from Information Risk, Information Technology

All Quiet On The Western Front Humanity Quotes
Brendan Doherty

Lost Humanity We have lost all feeling for one another. We can hardly control ourselves when our
hunted glance lights on the form of some other man. We are insensible, dead men, who through
some trick, some dreadful magic, are still able to run (Remarque 115). This quote shows the
thoughts that run through Paul Baumer s mind during a long battle. The quote demonstrates the
stripped sense of humanity and self control the soldiers have, and the animalistic nature the soldiers
have developed. Throughout the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Baumer and the Second
Company become isolated from their humanity, their childhood, and other humans. Becoming
isolated from one s humanity changes a human in drastic ways. A word of command has made
these silent figures our enemies; a word of command might transform them into our friends
(Remarque 195). Remarque uses this quote to show how the ones in authority turn the soldiers under

the fact that the men s school experience has been destroyed by the war. The Second Company

The Free Will in Meditations on First Philosophy by Descartes
I
In Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes takes the reader through a methodological exercise in
philosophical enquiry. After stripping the intellect of all doubtful and false beliefs, he re examines
the nature and structure of being in an attempt to secure a universally valid epistemology free from
skepticism. Hoping for the successful reconciliation of science and theology, Descartes works to
reconstruct a new foundation of absolute and certain truth to act as a catalyst for future scientific
research by showing that a mathematical [rational objective] physics of the world is attainable by
creatures with our intellectual capacities and faculties (Shand 1994, p. ... Show more content on

The will, at its most basic, consists in saying yes or no to ideas or propositions. Descartes adopts
the position that the free will is independent of the deterministic and fundamental laws that govern
matter. Human behavior is neither dictated by mechanical compulsion, nor persuaded or coerced
by God, nor influenced by any external force to act in a predetermined manner. Descartes, in a bold
stroke, proclaims the divine grace of God along with natural knowledge actually increases and
strengthens human freedom, as opposed to restricting its effectiveness.
As a thinking entity, Descartes is a consciousness mind aware of the potential to engage in various
modes of existence. To the numerous operations of thought he includes doubting, understanding,
affirming, denying, willing, refusing, imagining, and sensing. As varied and manifold as these
operations appear, they are but expressions of two principal types of conscious activity, to which
Descartes eventually traces the nature of error. Thinking and reasoning, together with all belief in
general, depend upon the operation of the twin faculties knowing and choosing, or the free will.
Garrett Thompson writes:
Descartes divides all thoughts into two kinds: ideas

The Roman Colosseum Essays
The Roman Colosseum, a colossal amphitheater, was built in the first century under Flavian s rule.
Many events such as gladiator games, beast fights, naval battles, and much more took place inside
the huge elliptical arena. People of all ages and classes attended these well known spectacles. The
Colosseumis a huge Roman architectural achievement and the fact that it is still standing today
only amplifies the importance of this structure. Hundred of thousands of people attended the
ancient games, and even more continue to visit the arena today.

The Colosseum s technical name is the Flavian Amphitheater, so called in praise of the emperor
who oversaw its creation. The Colosseum was begun in the year AD 72 and was still uncompleted
at the time of Vespasian s death in 79. He was succeeded by his elder son, Titus, who undertook the
completion of the Flavian Amphitheater. It was officially opened in AD 80 for the inaugural games.
Although the original name of this dynamic building was the Flavian Amphitheater, several
centuries after being built it was referred to as the Colosseum, a lasting title. The building received
this nickname from a statue that stood near the site of the arena. According to Pearson, the statue
originally was of Nero, but Vespasian changed the head of the statue to the sun god, Apollo. And it
was this colossus, with Apollo s head, that gave the arena its infamous name, the Colosseum.
The Colosseum was built in a valley found between the Esquiline, the Palatine, and the Caelian
hills. The spot chosen, where Nero s lake used to be, was interesting and made a bold statement.
Where Nero had built for his own pleasure, the Flavians built a massive structure for the public
good.
The Colosseum was the largest amphitheater of the time period. It was a huge elliptical structure
consisting of four stories, over 150 feet high. It measured 620 X 513 feet. The enclosed oval arena
measure 287 feet long X 180 feet wide.

Reasons For European Exploration
SCHWEIKART ALLEN 1: City on a Hill What were the reasons for European exploration?
Explain Gold, Glory, and God. They basic reasons for Europeans exploring was because of the
phrase Gold, God, and Glory . The gold was promised to the explorers by the king and queen of
their country if they were to find new land; some went believing that their duty to the people of
the new land was to introduce them to their religion and bring god to them by spreading their
faith; and lastly the glory was the idea that the adventure of claiming land would make them rich
instead of poor sailors and longed to be praised. How does Schweikart and Allen s portrayal of

Pedagogy Of The Oppressed Chapter 2 Analysis
Chapter 2 of Freire s Pedagogy of the Oppressed discusses a failed teaching method between the
student and teacher. It s a common mistake for teachers to treat the teaching process as a banking
concept . Freire discusses how this concept takes away creativity from students by forcing them to
memorize facts as the teacher deposits them into their minds. It s not expected of the student to
comprehend what they re learning. It s expected of them to take what the teacher is saying as fact
without critically thinking about the meaning behind it. Freire explains,
Education thus becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the
teacher is the depositor. Instead of communicating, the teacher issues communiquГ©s and makes
deposits which the students patiently receive, memorize, and repeat. This is the banking concept of
education, in which the scope of action ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an oppressive society, a group of individuals are expected to adapt and be controlled by a more
powerful group without question. Similar to a banking concept of education, at times it seems the
student is not expected to think for themselves. They listen to what the teacher deposits into their
mind, and they adapt. I strongly agree that this limits comprehension and creativity and forces you
to adapt to thinking like a robot. He makes a strong case with his analogy, Four times four is
sixteen......The student records, memorizes, and repeats these phrases without perceiving what four
times four really means. It s easy to get discouraged in school when it feels like information is being
thrown at you without much encouragement to fully grasp it. It s nearly impossible to truly
understand a concept when you re forced to memorize it immediately for a test. In conclusion,
teachers with this mindset should understand that to be a true educator is to encourage the student
to take the time to comprehend the material

Canonical Books
Canonical books are books that are relating to or ordered by canon law. It has to appear in
biblical canon. For a book to be considered canonical it has to meet seven principles. In no
specific order the principles are the book must be dynamic, written by an authoritative writer and
be authoritative itself. It has to be authentic, prophetic, and received. Lastly, people who knew of
the events have to have been able to falsify them. The reason a canon of scripture became
necessary, was because the prophets and apostles were no longer here. They were the living voice
of this information. Canon was a way to preserve biblical writings from any corruption. A canon of
the biblebridges the old and new Testaments. This was gradual. The formation of the New
Testament canon is how the sacredness was preserved.
Knowing what canon is and the history of it, helps a person comprehend the importance scripture.

The number of books included differ based on whether the person is Christian, Mormon, or

the Bible consisting of the 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. In
Roman Catholicism, additional books were added in 1546. These books are known as the
apocryphal books: Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, The Wisdom of Solomon, Ecclesiasticus
(Sirach), and Baruch. In Mormonism, four additional books have been added to the Canon: The

Analysis Of The Book Rush Men
Most everyone knows what Greg Hardy brings to the table. He was pro bowler in 2013. Hardy s
stacked up an average of 13 sacks and 40 solo tackles in his last two full seasons with the
Carolina Panthers. He s extremely explosive off the edge and has elite hands that make it almost
impossible to block him for an entire game. Hardy will be a huge upgrade for the Cowboys.
With one position improved in the rush men rotation, who else can the Cowboys count on to
contribute not only during Hardy s four game suspension but also for the entire season. For
starters, nobody should sleep on Jeremy Mincey. He doesn t get talked about much but he was
kind of the unsung hero of the Dallas pass rush last season leading the team in sacks with 6, and
QB pressures with 39. He was also named team captain after Justin Durant went on IR. This is a
contract year for him and at the age of 31 he won t see many more. With more help along the
defensive line he should get some more favorable match ups and have another nice season.
Tyrone Crawford didn t see snap his entire rookie season but last season was his coming out
party. The 2013 third round pick wrecks absolute havoc up the middle. There were several times
last season when Jeremy Mincey and Henry Melton got the credit for the sack but it was Crawford
who pushed the line taking on two or three blockers at once giving them a free run at the QB.
Crawford had a good season last year ranking in the top 15 of all DT s (according to

  • 2. Hamlet as So Much More Than a Traditional Revenge Tragedy... Hamlet as So Much More Than a Traditional Revenge Tragedy Although Shakespeare wrote Hamlet closely following the conventions of a traditional revenge tragedy, he goes far beyond this form in his development of Hamlet s character. Shakespeare s exploration of Hamlet s complex thoughts and emotions is perhaps more the focus of the play rather than that of revenge, thus in Hamlet Shakespeare greatly develops and enhances the form of the traditional revenge tragedy. The main source of Hamlet is Saxo Grammaticus Historiae Danicae, a folk tale that has a similar plot to Hamlet; however, Shakespeare greatly transforms this story of revenge when creating Hamlet. Shakespeare also draws upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The revenge ghost is a convention Kyd took from Seneca s tragedies, and in fact, Don Andrea has similar parallels to the ghost of Achilles in Seneca s play Troades. The first appearance of the old king s ghost in the opening scene of Hamlet would have been suggestive of a revenge tragedy to an Elizabethan audience. However, the ghost does not demand revenge as Don Andrea does, but rather adds to the uncertainty and sense of foreboding in the scene. The play begins in a bitter cold night, bringing a sense of pathetic fallacy to the scene, as the setting adds to the sense of trouble in Denmark, as described by Horatio and Marcellus. It is not until Act I, Scene V that the ghost appears to Hamlet, demanding revenge [for] his foul and most unnatural murder, and thus introducing the theme of revenge in Hamlet. Although Hamlet proclaims that [he will] sweep to [his] revenge, he does not take his revenge until the final scene of the play. Hamlet s inaction and delay of his revenge is paralleled in The Spanish Tragedy, however the reasons for delay in Hamlet are somewhat different. In The Spanish Tragedy, immediately after Hieronimo discovers his son s body he claims that it is only in revenge [his] heart would find relief, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Introduction. This Is One Of The Many Problems California Introduction This is one of the many problems California has been facing even today. Drought has been a growing problem in California each year. How to tackle this problem is up to government and many scientists. There have been many case studies determining how and why drought has devastated the state of California. Water is a necessary and most important resource in California. Our water comes from groundwater, rivers, or lakes. Since California is facing a tremendous droughtthese resources are becoming destroyed. Now there is low measures of water in these lakes and rivers where we receive our water from. There are agencies that help deliver water to the major cities which all comes from those lakes and reservoirs. What happens when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is drought? What causes/affects drought? What things are essential to stop drought? What will it take to stop drought in California? Will there be money needed? Are there any programs started to reduce drought? Will the government be involved and what they will do? There will be laws/regulations needed to prevent drought. Also I believe we as people need to change our habits and not waste water. Methods I will utilize this paper by using academic resources, governmental resources, and newspaper resources. I have gathered a lot of information in relation to drought like from the Drought Brochure. This brochure explains what a drought is, also talks about the history of droughts. Furthermore It explains how a draught is caused and the relationship between groundwater and drought. My academic sources and newspaper sources gave a good insight how the California drought was caused. There was a lot of information on climate change and temperatures. As I researched for drought causation mostly everything was on climate change. I managed to find a great article that talked about the causes of drought lead by climate change and global warming. I also took advantage of my library sources, I discussed drought with David Drexler who is in the water resource association he helped clarify where we get our water from, what type of drought is occurring in California, and what a drought is. Results How are droughts caused? Droughts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How ELT Has Helped Make English the Global Language How ELT has Helped Make English the Global Language Standardization of English Controversies It is not difficult to determine why English began its rise as the predominant language in the world. Britain, the progenitor of the language, once bragged that the Sun never set on the British Empire. This is true in that the empire stretched to all areas of the globe, and the nation of England had influence beyond just its possessions. Because the conquerors spoke English, many of the citizens learned to at least use a few simple phrases that would allow them to take the better jobs offered by the English. This same scenario has happened since the United States has become the world superpower. In areas such as commerce and science, it is almost non negotiable that a person has to learn English to survive. The global climate dictates that there must be a single language which everyone can turn to as that spoken in a particular discipline. Because of the economic superiority of the United States over the past 50 years, and the fact that the US has also dominated many fields within science, English is spoken by many people around the world. However, it is a second language. The fact is that English is not the preeminent first language. Chinese Mandarin has far more native speakers than any other language in the world (Lovgren, 2004). Of course, just the sheer volume of Chinese make this a certainty, but many of these people still speak English as a second language because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are several mechanisms that can change a gene pool and allow evolution to occur. Natural selection, mutation, gene flow and genetic drift are some of the driving forces behind evolutionary change. Natural selection and genetic drift are the mechanisms that decrease genetic variation, whereas gene flow and mutation are the driving mechanism to increase genetic variation. Natural selection is basically the understanding that the environment can not support unlimited population growth, and not all organisms are able to reproduce to their full potential due to trait variation. For example, a black fly may... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2. Allopatric speciation occurs due to a geographic isolation process such as when a pond might dry up and create two ponds, a flood, a river is re routed, or a bird carries seeds in its feathers and drops the seeds in new location during the birds migration. The species of the previous geographic location also become reproductively isolated. The population then becomes two separate populations and begins to change over time due to changes in the gene pool, environments, natural selection and mutations. With this understanding it is possible to see that plate tectonics theory and continental drift theory possibly resulted in allopatric speciation. Continental drift was a theory offered by Alfred Wegener in 1912 that hypothesized that all the continents at one time fit together as one land mass. Wegener, explained that the ends of each continent could fit together like a puzzle and that over time the continents drifted apart. The model explained why the same types of fossils occur in sedimentary rock on both sides of the vast Atlantic Ocean (Star, 2008, pg. 250), in other words allopatric speciation. Wegener s theory did not have a supporting geological mechanism. Many years later and advances in technology brought about the plate tectonics theory. Essentially it says: the earth surface is covered by a series of crustal plates the ocean floors are continually moving, spreading from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. African Leaders Established The Organisation Of African... Introduction In the 21st Century, the African continent leaders wanted to establish a more united continent. It is for this reason that the African leaders established the Organisation of African Unity in 1963, with the purpose of eradicating colonialism in Africa, and harmonize and deepen collaboration efforts of member states to achieve a better life for its people. A number of problems emerged such as the 1975 Angolan civil war and the Somalia invasion of Ethiopia 1978, besides most African economies were on the decline, these issues among others weakened the competence of the OAU. Beginning of 1999 certain leaders began to question why the OAU failed to prevail and resolve the social ills that afflicted Africa (Bujra 2002) Therefore, the OAU was scrapped and the African Union was established on 9th July 2002 with the key objective of upholding peace, security and stability on the African continent. Ever since, the AU has launched military operations to help control clashes in Burundi, Sudan, Somalia and the Comoros. This paper will discuss the Darfur Crisis which militarily escalated in 2003. The deployment of AMIS took place in a complex context representing the first real test of the AU s peacekeeping capacity ,( Ouguergouz Yusufu 2012, p. 365). • 8. Man Against Nature In Jack London s To Build A Fire Man against Nature: A Look Into To Build a Fire by Jack London Introduction The human being has in most instances tried to outdo nature through creativity and innovation. Man s fight against nature is endlessly continuous and determined. It is of great significance that man understands that this competition with nature in the face of such overwhelming odds is insignificant. A clear cut example of this unproductive struggle is a story by Jack London, To Build a Fire whereby he uses man versus nature to support his primary theme that our struggle against nature is vastly unequal one that leaves little or no margin for error (London, 25). To prove this theme Jack London, in his book puts a man in an environment he is unfamiliar with. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The man also despite the warning of the likely dangers of such cold weather, he had his argument. He in his mind stated, All a man had to do was to keep his head, and he was all right (London, 71). Any man who was a man could travel alone. In this instance, the man backing on his intellect and reasoning power to overcome nature. Warleggen s waiver distinguishes itself from the waiver in Roberts in that Warleggen s waiver includes activity leading up to spelunking and cave tours, like the car or van travel to and from the site , while also including the phrase ordinary negligence directly in the types of risks that are included in spelunking. In Roberts, it was unclear to the court if the waiver covered activities before and after entering the hot air balloon. Unlike in Brooten, Warleggen s waiver does not followed the term negligence with OR ANY OTHER CAUSE. Warleggen s decision to omit that phrase precludes the possibility for an overly broad interpretation, like construing the waiver to release incidents involving recklessness and intentional conduct. If the waiver was overly broad and extended beyond ordinary negligence, the clause would be invalid under public policy. The waiver also includes ... ALL RISK[S] ASSOCIATED WITH SPELUNKING OR CAVING EXCURSION..., which would seem to cover reckless or intentional conduct, but the sentence preceding it describes what spelunking or caving excursion activities are and clearly states only ordinary negligence is included. The waiver sets out the common activities included in spelunking and cave excursions, while also specifically covering the activities that are common to spelunking. Furthermore, the waiver language Risks include, but are not limited to. . . advised the Poldarks that there were other risks to contemplate, distinguishing itself from the Atkins waiver which made it difficult to ascertain what was in the plaintiff s and the defendant s contemplation. CONTENTS PRINT CITE George Washington (1732 99) was commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War (1775 83) and served two terms as the first U.S. president, from 1789 to 1797. The son of a prosperous planter, Washington was raised in colonial Virginia. As a young man, he worked as a surveyor then fought in the French and Indian War (1754 63). During the American Revolution, he led the colonial forces to victory over the British and became a national hero. In 1787, he was elected president of the convention that wrote the U.S. Constitution. Two years later, Washington became America s first president. People, particularly, have come to understand that Alexander was none the less a powerful and diligent man. He follows all aspect of what it means to be strong willed. Alexander was a man of courage and influence who strived to complete all that he put his mind to. Ian Worthington writes. In 334 he invaded Persia, and within a decade he had defeated the Persians, subdued Egypt, and pushed on to Iran, Afghanistan, and even India (64). When one sees a man of abundant success it is hard to not give that person credit; however, should his steps to success be looked over, or taken into detailed consideration. Does the end justify the means or vice versa? The issue with this idea is the fact that Alexander was in fact great. You cannot overlook the amount of success Alexander had gained over the years. Per contra to the amount of triumph that radiates from Alexander, one may argue that respectable morals are without a doubt absent during his lifetime which strips him of this undeserving name. Is it right to get somewhere the easy way or should a great leader make all decisions in favor of health and well being within himself and his people? This personality trait makes sense because he has unfortunately been alone for the majority of his life. His mother and father were both violently killed when Danny was just nine years old. From then on, he had to learn how to survive on his own, without anyone to support him, and with that he developed selfish characteristics. What Is The Legacies Of Henry V s Life William Shakespeare s play Henry V showcases Henry IV s son Henry V life as the new king, after his father s death, and how he is going to fix his country after his dad left England in a bad state with may rebellions and made enemies with other countries. Ideal leadership, generosity, and cruelty are all things that describe Henry, but after watching the play, one would feel as if they have seen this before. His character is the embodiment of Alexander the Great. Although Shakespeare was historically accurate in most of his play, Henry Vs life is weirdly identical to Alexander s life. The two kings succeed their fathers and faced the same challenges. Their values on life and wars they fought left behind amazing legacies that differ from each other but are similar in multiple ways. Because despite being serious, and often deadly, mental disorders, these psychiatric illnesses are often overlooked and unrecognized due to the lack of accurate information available about them. Eating disorders are complex psychological disorders that severely affect a person s physical and mental health and require intense, personalized treatment. Eating disorders have existed throughout history, with only slight variances in incidence and distribution. However, the frequency of eating disorders in the general population has been steadily increasing since the 20th century (Crash Course). More than 50% of people have revealed the use of unhealthy dieting techniques and chronic disordered eating patterns while at least 10% of people (in the United States) have been diagnosed with a clinically significant eating disorder (Stice, et al). The gravity of the play refers to the importance of a play s theme, while a play s pertinence refers to the story s concern with the human predicament. One of the reasons Ed morphs into Degas is to combat his own feelings of anonymity and his lack of purpose. Being someone great, being someone immortal brings a sense of freshness to his entire life. Both dog training advice and college studying advice include the need for consistency, frequency, and repetition, along with using both types of reinforcement. Despite these similarities, dogs and students differ in what they are learningand how exactly they show that they have learned. Advice to college students and dog trainers are comparable in fundamental ways; their methods and reactions to conditioning are similar but what exactly the person or dog is learning can make it seem as if the two types of advice have very little in common. Studying and dog training advice both include the need for frequency, consistency, and repetition. The ASPCA (n.d.) states that, once a dog has learned a trick, trainers should regularly test the dog throughout the day to ensure the dog remembers how to perform it. Dogs also learn quicker when using the same phrases each training session, such as using only lay down for a command versus mixing it with get down . Finally, the ASPCA also recommends that training sessions should be kept relatively short; trainers should only practice a new trick five to fifteen times before switching to a previously learned trick ( Training Your Dog ). President Ronald Regan s Treasury Department proposed a tax neutral reform with the definitive duty of simplifying the overall code. However, the absence of any reform since then greatly reflects the United States current condition, in that The United States provides a good example of an uncompetitive taxcode (Pomerleau Lundeen, 2014). Foremost, most nation s taxing systems characteristically have five main features that either make them greatly competitive or not. Competitiveness includes desirability for both the society and business activity. The mid Tudor crisis is a term often used by historians to describe the reigns of Edward VI (1547 1553) and Mary I (1553 1558). This period can be seen as a crisis, due to the fact that there were so many problems financially, socially, religiously and constitutionally, which led to rebellions, and placed the country in a very unstable position. It is clear that many of the origins of this crisis have their roots in the reign of Henry VIII. He left a very difficult legacy to his successors, but it must be remembered that Somerset provoked the problems already in existence and Northumberland and Mary I then had the difficult task of resolving them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Northumberland also established the Privy Coffer to provide contingency funds. Mary herself reformed the customs and introduced the book of rates in 1558. There was also, as Guy perceives a shift towards national finance . Although the period 1552 8 is still described as a crisis, it must be remembered that there were some productive reforms and that the situation did not decline. Historians such as Pollard who see government as sterile, impotent and unproductive at this time do not seem to have taken into account these positive financial developments. It is evident that Henry was at the root of the financial problems and that Somerset exacerbated them. However the positive achievements of Northumberland and Mary must not be forgotten. Somerset lacked charm and made enemies easily. His arrogance and pride created resentment. He was a weak administrator who refused to listen to the experts. At a very young age, life for Coretta and her family was very difficult being that her family was more successful than blacks in their area. Her father, Obadiah Scott, was the first African Americanman to own a truck in this particular area which caused more hatred against their family. Perry County was a very cruel place, Thanksgiving night in 1942 their house was burned to the ground by white racists. Even though this and many other cruel events happened, Obadiah and Bernice Scott, Scott s parents, continued to have faith. In the Coretta Scott King Biography, Scott s early schooling was affected by segregation. Coretta had to walk six miles to and from schools while others had bus transportation. After completing the sixth grade, Coretta stated that her parents sent Edythe, her older sister, and her to Lincoln . Lincoln was a semi private high school founded by slaves. Scott also mentioned how she had to stay with other families so she could attend Lincoln and receive a better education . The white teachers there saw worth in her which led to Coretta looking past what she experienced and realized that under the skin were people with good hearts. Darwin s theory of evolution influenced Rorty s thoughts on the amount of certainty and uncertainty in existence, specifically relating to Kant s ideas about dualism. As previously mentioned, Kant s abstract world is filled with certainty and continues to be unchanging. In contrast, Rorty believes that Darwin s idea of evolution can be applied to not only biological evolution, but also to the evolution of ideas (Rorty 75). Thus, Rorty questions the amount of certainty one can truly experience. For example, Rorty writes about how everything in human existence has gradually increas[ed in] complexity, such as human language and biological features. In other words everything in the world is forever evolving, and if this is true, there can be no real certainty in the world. In terms of morality, Rorty disagrees with the Kantian belief of universally unchanging morals. For Rorty, morals do not exist in a separate realm, and thus cannot derive from abstract reason. This decision was in response to the decline in sales and profits that had hit the traditional department store industry, which was in a maturing stage and moving towards a downward trend for some time. Just three years later, in 2008, U.S. economy was hit with a recession that threatened the livelihood of many successful retail giants. While consolidation and repositioning efforts had their benefits, there were some challenges. Change is often very difficult as most individuals are creatures of habit. Thus, consolidation of department stores to one brand (in this case Macy s) meant that existing consumers who had regularly shopped at their favorite department stores (such as Marshall Field s in Chicago) would now have to adjust to new products, prices and services. In fact, the perception of some loyal consumers post consolidation was negative, complaining that Macy s store had lower quality products and services. In addition, Macy s had standardized its products and pricing nationwide to lower purchasing cost, however this tactic actually backfired. Standardization resulted in higher prices of products offered at Macy s compared to the former regional department stores chains, thus consumers were apprehensive to shop at the ... Factor Analysis Of Information Risk Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR) Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR) is a framework for understanding, analyzing and measuring information risk (Violino, 2010). FAIR is a Value at Risk (VaR) model for cyber security and operational risk and is considered an international standard by The Open Group. The FAIR model quantifies information risk in financial terms using a scientific approach (RiskLens, 2015). Other risk models measure risk in qualitative terms based on the opinions of subject matter experts, reliance on practitioner intuition and experience, industry lore and best practices (Violino, 2010). The primary components of the FAIR framework are a taxonomy for information risk, standardized terms and definitions for information risk terms, data collection criteria, scales for measuring risk factors, a computational engine for calculating risk, and a simulation model to measure risk scenarios (Jones, 2005). The framework is used to develop threat modelled information risk processes based on past experiences, up‐to‐date intelligence feeds, recognition of trends, and a valuation of the organizational assets (Optimal Risk, 2015). The Colosseum was begun in the year AD 72 and was still uncompleted at the time of Vespasian s death in 79. He was succeeded by his elder son, Titus, who undertook the completion of the Flavian Amphitheater. It was officially opened in AD 80 for the inaugural games. Although the original name of this dynamic building was the Flavian Amphitheater, several centuries after being built it was referred to as the Colosseum, a lasting title. The building received this nickname from a statue that stood near the site of the arena. According to Pearson, the statue originally was of Nero, but Vespasian changed the head of the statue to the sun god, Apollo. And it was this colossus, with Apollo s head, that gave the arena its infamous name, the Colosseum. It s not expected of the student to comprehend what they re learning. It s expected of them to take what the teacher is saying as fact without critically thinking about the meaning behind it. Freire explains, Education thus becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher is the depositor.
