Narrative Writing Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Narrative Writing Essays" can be a challenging endeavor, as
it requires a delicate balance between creativity and structure. Narrative writing demands a
unique set of skills that go beyond the typical academic essay. Unlike more formal essays,
narrative writing involves weaving a compelling story while still adhering to the conventions of
essay structure.
One of the difficulties lies in finding the right narrative voice. The writer must engage the reader
with a captivating storytelling style, creating a vivid and immersive experience. Striking the right
balance between descriptive details, dialogue, and a coherent plot can be a formidable task.
Ensuring that the narrative flows smoothly and holds the reader's attention from start to finish is
a constant challenge.
Additionally, crafting a narrative essay involves careful consideration of pacing and sequencing.
The events must unfold in a logical and engaging manner, building tension and suspense when
needed. Achieving a seamless transition between different parts of the story while maintaining
clarity can be demanding.
Moreover, the essay must have a clear purpose or message. It's not just about telling a story; there
should be a deeper meaning or insight that the reader can derive from the narrative. Developing a
theme that resonates with the audience and effectively conveying it through the story requires
thoughtful planning and execution.
On a technical level, grammar, syntax, and vocabulary play a crucial role in creating a well-
crafted narrative essay. The writer must choose words carefully to evoke the desired emotions
and imagery, enhancing the overall impact of the story.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Narrative Writing Essays" demands a unique set of skills
encompassing storytelling, structure, pacing, and thematic development. It is a task that requires
creativity, precision, and a keen understanding of both the art and craft of narrative writing.

President Obama s State Of The Union Address
One of the most highly debated proposals from President Barack Obama s State of
the Union address is a new government program that would cover the cost of
community college. The American College Promise would provide free tuition to
students who enroll in a community college for at least half time, maintain a 2.5
Grade Point Average (GPA), make steady progress towards completing an associate
s degree and cannot have an adjusted gross income of above two hundred thousand
dollars. Obama has stated that the new proposal will benefit roughly nine million
students each year by earning them an associate s degree at no cost. Although the
new proposal can be seen as a panacea for all incoming collegestudents, the
opposition is true due to the fact that community collegeis affordable, exclusive, and
will hurt the economy by causing the current United Statesdebt to increase.
Many critiques against community college being tuition free state that our
economy will improve. This is being proven by Wyner who states that it is
necessary to close the percentage gap of jobs that will require a college education.
Yes, it is true that a college education will be required for 60% of jobs, it doesn t
mean that community college should be free. If anything, making college free, will
affect the economy . The White House stated that the cost of implementing a tuition
free community college program will be over sixty billion dollars over ten years. The
money will come from taxpayer dollars.
Summary Of The Enlightenment Salons
Dr. Dena Goodman is an American historian and Professor of History and Women s
Studies at the University of Michigan. Her most notable publications include The
Republic of Letters: A Cultural History of the French Enlightenment (1994) and
Becoming a Woman in the Age of Letters (2009).
In her article, Enlightenment Salons: The Convergence of Female and Philosophic
Ambition, (1989) Dena Goodman stresses the pivotal role of women, as
salonniГЁres, in the transformation and governance of eighteenth century French
Enlightenment salons, which were the base of the philosophes pursuit of the
Enlightenment project; furthermore, Goodman argues the reciprocal successes of the

The motivations were various and complex, from trying to advance from social
dissipation to trying to supplement the education that was denied to them as children.
However, as illustrated by eighteenth century French theologian and moralist, Jacques
Joseph Duget, there was a perception of frivolous and licentious salon women in the
seventeenth century corrupting society, particularly by feminizing men. Salons in the
eighteenth century had evolved from this, now trying to revive society through the
philosophes Republic of Letters.
The salons were reclaimed from aristocracy and utilized by the philosophes as a space
of collaboration and intellectual exchange, fostering Enlightenment ideas, particularly
egalitarianism. Salons were characterized by the acknowledged equality among the
participants as well as the birth of intellectual practice as a valuable interest. The
serious tone of the salon as a workspace provided philosophes with the environment
necessary to spread the ideals of the Enlightenment, including the involvement of
women in the enlightened community. The Republic of Letters developed
complementarily with the salon s social, institutional advancements, mirroring the
interconnectivity of philosophes and salonniГЁres alike in the Enlightenment project.

Laredo Field Office Essay
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, professionalism is defined as the
conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional
person. A few pages to the left, efficient is defined as productive of desired effects,
especially productive without waste, an efficient worker. A few more pages to the
left, cordial is defined as showing or marked by warm and often hearty friendliness,
favor, or approval, a cordial welcome. All three terms are a few to which all
officers assigned to Laredo Field Office (LFO) are either born with and which a
few even learn on the job. As a Supervisory CBP Officer, hearing a complaint from
a member of the traveling public is almost a given; it is never a rare occasion. One
has a better chance to win $10 on a Texas Lotto Scratch Ticket than receiving a
compliment; however, that was not the case on the evening of July 18th, 2017. A
member of the traveling public expressed the professionalism, efficiency, and
courtesy from a new recruit. How did the traveler tell if it was new recruit? The
traveler had never seen him before, nor did the officer have any rank on his
shoulder. The traveler stated that he had never crossed the border into Piedras

The Landolt Iodine Clock Reaction
The Landolt iodine clock reaction is a well known experiment characterised by a
notable clear to blue colour change. This experiment is often used to determine the
rate at which reactions take place. This colour change transpires when I2 reacts
with 1% starch and NaHSO3 to form a blue starch and iodine solution. The rate of
reaction is accurately recorded with a stopwatch as soon as the blue colour change
is visible to the human eye. Rates of chemical reactions can be defined as the
amount of a particular reactant consumed in mol/L per second (Anon, 2017) These
rate laws have crucial effects in everyday life. There are five factors that affect a
reaction rate. These are known as temperature, concentration, the presence of a...

The second variable that will be tested is temperature. If a liquid is heated the
particles are given more energy and move faster and faster expanding the liquid.
(Jones, 2000) When the particles have more energy they move around more and are
thus more likely to collide which speeds up the rate of the reaction. The opposite
also becomes true when the temperature is lowered. This will be shown in the
experiment by two separate tests. The first will be conducted in a hot water bath at
70в„ѓ and the second in an ice bath of 0в„ѓ. It is commonly thought that the blue
colour change will occur faster at a warmer temperature and very slowly in a
freezing temperature. This experiment studies the kinetic reaction of a potassium

Synthetic Biology Therapies And Treatment Of Infectious...
To begin, synbio technology is becoming a necessity in the biomedicine and
pharmaceutical industry. Synthetic biology therapies has been developed for the
treatment of infectious diseases and cancer, as well as approaches in vaccine
development (Ruder et al., 2011). As Ruder et al. (2011) have discovered, effective
synthetic biologytherapies can been rationally designed and constructed to alter
mechanisms underlying disease and related biological processes. In the process of
developing synthetic biologyfor prevention of infection, bacteriophages have been
manipulated to attack bacterial strains by disrupting antibiotic defense mechanisms.
The development of these synthetic biology therapies is essential in preventing
widespread of diseases which may be unstoppable using other means. In the case of
cancer treatment, synthetic biology plays an even more important role. Despite the
success of modern cancer therapies, the major therapeutic interventions surgery,
radiation and chemotherapy still causes considerable damage to healthy tissues in
cancer patients. In this aspect, synthetic biology is no longer merely an alternative,
but more of a necessity as we need new cancer treatments that precisely distinguish
between diseases and healthy cells (Ruder et al., 2011). With synthetic biology,
synbiologists are able to engineer bacteria to target and invade only cancer cells,
programming the invasion to occur only in specific vivo conditions, as well as
engineering bacteria
Risk Based Portfolio Construction Methods
Risk Based Portfolios
In this section, Lee Wai (2001) briefly explained characteristics of the four well
known risk based portfolio construction methods Equally Weighted Portfolio, Global
Mean Variance Portfolio, Most Diversified Portfolio, and Risk Contribution Portfolio.
First, the equally weighted portfolio is the simplest portfolio construction approach
that gives all assets same weights (Lee, 2011). Lee described the portfolio as the
most heuristic portfolio because it completely ignores the return and risk relationship
of investments. Lee also argued that equal weighting of assets does not guarantee
diversification since this strategy does not have any consideration of correlation
among assets. This is the complete and undeniable truth. As we have learned from the
investment and financial theory courses, some of assets have close relationship that
can be estimated by covariance between assets.
Second, the global minimum variance portfolio (GMV) is a unique portfolio on a
portfolio frontier since it has the lowest volatility (Lee, 2011). Lee explained that
although the marginal contribution to risk of all assets in the GMV is identical, this
does not mean risk contributions of each asset is equal because of the different
weights and volatilities of assets in the portfolio. Moreover, the GMV tends to have
high weights on low volatility assets in order to lower the total volatility of the
portfolio. As a result, the GMV portfolio can be more sensitive to the
Voting In Voting
Being able to vote is a privilege that has been granted to us at the age of 18 for over
40 years now. Although 18 year olds and above are granted the opportunity to vote
in something that can make a difference in politics not everyone takes the time to
participate in voting. Most of the voting has been done by older people because
they have had more experience and interest in politics. With that being said I think
the more realistic decision to make is keeping 16 and 17 years olds from votinguntil
they reach the age of 18. On November 13, 2017, Annys Shin published an article
called Takoma Park 16 year old savors his history making moment at the polls. In
that article Shin explains that in the Montgomery County has been one of the first
communities to allow 16 and 17 years olds to vote. The student that have been
elected to vote felt important and special for being able to have a say in votes at
such a young age. For those who weren t chosen might of not had a problem with it
simply because they weren t interested. Even when they teen reach the age of 18 the
first thing they think about is not running up to a polland vote, they have money
other ideas then waiting so long to go to the polls and voting at the first opportunity
that they get. We cannot be more excited to have the 16 17 year olds vote then they
are themselves. If they are not eager to vote at 16 17 then why even have the idea to
push them to be hungry to vote and be involved in politics. The teens that
Modern Dance History
The history of modern dance dates back as early as the 19th century when Isadora
Duncan, began her career as a performer and choreographer, leading her to evolve
into one of the world s most renown and innovative modern dance influences of the
time. A rich history followed with the birth of other significant and revolutionary
individuals such as Martha Graham in 1894 (Terry, 2017) and George Balanchine in
1904 (Walker, 2017). These pioneers of dance, introduced the world to a new style of
choreography, originally derived from and based upon romantic classical ballet. The
Oxford Dictionary (1989) defines modern danceas a free expressive style of dancing
that developed in the early 20th century as a reaction to classical ballet. Classical
ballet has a rigid style, it requires supreme discipline and structured movement.
Modern dance was established as an alternative way to perform, where dancers were
not restricted by costume or movement and used this freedom to push visual
boundaries. Many people criticised the choreography and reviewers in the 1930 s
1940 s wrote of how it was unsavoury and distasteful (Gilbert, 1999), although,
eventually becoming a worldwide phenomenon. It can be argued that Balanchine,
Graham and Duncan were inevitably the three most significant dance figures in the
development of modern dance choreography from foundations built by romantic
classical ballet.
A variety of expert sources highlight that there has been a clear development of
modern dance

extraordinary stats, Ken Griffey Jr. may be the ultimate What Could Have Been

injuries that robbed him of hundreds of games. If not for these injuries, Griffey was
well on his way to becoming the Home RunKing (Stark, 2010) and possibly the
greatest player ever. Despite these setbacks, Griffey is still revered as one of the

own autobiography (Ferguson, 2011). His 1989 rookie card remains the most
popular baseball card ever. During the prime of his career in the late 1990s, he was
easily the most popular baseball player and possibly even most popular athlete in the
world.
Nowhere in the country is he more popular than in Seattle, where he is considered
the savior of baseball in the city. In the 1980s, the Mariners were a historically
moribund franchise playing in the crumbling Kingdome. Prior to his arrival, the
Mariners had been seriously considering a move to Washington DC, but that all
changed once Griffey came (Fort, 2000, p. 313). His exciting style of play
immediately attracted fans and attention to the franchise (Caple, 2010). In 1995,
Griffey led a miracle rally to the Mariners first playoff appearance in decades
(Reader, 2010), and capped the season by scoring the game winning run to defeat
the New York Yankees in the first round (Schaefer, 2003, p.6). His rise rejuvenated
baseball and the city in general, leading the building of the new stadium, Safeco Field
, dubbed the House That Griffey Built . Griffey s most enduring legacy, however,
was being one of the few star players who were not involved in
Libertarianism Research Paper
Libertarianism as a type of government gives the view that each individual has the
right to live how they please, as long as the individual respects and does not
interfere with another individuals life (Boaz 1997, 2). Rights are not given by
government but are bestowed upon a person by virtue of being human and
libertarians defend an individual s rights to property, life and liberty (Boaz 1997, 2).
The libertarianismframework which stands for economic development and liberty
under law is suited to the changing world, the dynamic world of today (Boaz 1997, 3).
The main concept of libertarianism is individualism, where libertarians see every
individual as their own person capable of making choices and being held
responsible for their actions (Boaz 1997, 12). Individual rights are held to a high
account, with each person having the right to be secure in life, property and liberty
through virtue of being human (Boaz 1997, 12). Order in society is another core
concept, developing from the integration of people and coordination within trade
(Boaz 1997, 13). The rule of law argues that people are free to do what they want, as
long as they do not interfere with another person s life (Boaz 1997, 13). A limited...

Walt Disney
Executive Summary Tokyo Disneyland was opened to the public on April 15, 1983.
This amusement park was owned and operated by an unrelated Japanese corporation.
The Walt Disney Company received royalties, paid in Yen, on certain revenues
generated by Tokyo Disneyland. This new overseas business venture was bringing
some concern about the foreign exchange risk to Disney. The management team at
the Disney has been considering hedging future Yen inflows from Disney Tokyo
since 1985. Mr. Anderson, the director of finance at The Walt Disney
Company,
focused his attention on a possible 15 billion ten year term loan with an interestrate of
7.5% paid semiannually. On the other hand, Goldman Sachs, who had been working

Net income totaled $97.8 million in 1984, an increase of 5% from 1983.when
looking at the Consolidated Balance Sheet (Exhibit2), we found that the total assets
grew 15% to $2.7 billion at the end of fiscal 1984 due to addition of real estate
inventories as part of the acquisition of another company. The ratio of debt to total
capitalization jumped to 43% at 1984 from 20% at previous year. With the first
opening of Tokyo Disneyland operated by an independent Japanese company and the
inflow of Yen royalty receipts, the foreign exchange rate risk began to emerge. As
the Yen depreciated, the revenues from the royalties were shrinking from 1980 to
1985. Therefore, the weak Yen had a negative influence on Disney s total net
income. We also know the goal of the firm s management is to make the firm as
valuable as possible, and then the firm should pick the debt equity ratio that makes
the pie as big as possible. Usually, the total value of the firm equals the sum of the
total debt and total equity. (V=D+E). As shown in the right chart, we can clearly
get a conclusion that an increase in total value of debt will increase the total value
of Disney from 1983 to 1984. We can maximize Disney s value by creating more
value of the debt. If we expose the Yen debt to the risk of the fluctuation in Yen
dollar exchange rates, it would also have great impact on the total value of our debt

St Brigid Research Paper
St Brigid of Kildare was born in 452 AD. She was a catholic nun who became one
of the patron saints of Ireland. She dedicated her whole life to following Jesus s
message; which was to love god, and love others. She shared this as her own
message, through the love and support she gave to others in the community. Like
Jesus she wanted to help the less fortunate and give to those that were in need,
offering them hope and faith. She chose to seek out justice among her community
and society, working around the lives of many. She was inspired by Jesus spirituality,
nature and love, that she wanted to demonstration her appreciation and strength to
those who were struggling. For example, she used her middle class lifestyle to
contribute to feeding the poor and nursing those who were injured or sick. Her
childhood was filled with donating her mothers and father s possessions to anyone
who asked (Online, n.d.).
St Brigid impacted all people around her. She inspired greatness to those who needed
her compassion and belief. For her endless time and support, it is suggested that her
message transcends time well beyond her death to the individuals and groups along
the years to today. Discussion of her transcendence will be ruminated throughout this

Assess functionalist and the New Right views on the family
Functionalists believe that the family have specific or traditional functions within the
family. One function of the family would be reproduction or having children as this
is imperative for the world as they will be the future workforce. For example family
businesses will need to pass down the factories/shops to the next generation in the
family for the continuing of the ancestors business. Other functions include economic
maintenance this is where the family provides necessities for all the family members
for example shelter, food and clothing. Another is that the family helps teach children

Halsey and Dennis who agrees with what Murray argues saying that single
parenthood and absent fathers is one of the key issues with the decrease in nuclear
family lives. Due to the lack of jobs and rise in unemployment men are starting to
struggle to maintain their title of bread winners and the industries are changing
from heavy workloads so women are more likely to find a job in modern times. As
a result men may be reject by the women as they can t financially depend on them
so would rather be given benefits than struggle to keep a roof over them and their
children s heads. Halsey debates that being in a one parent family with the factors of
unemployment and poverty being high could inevitably lead to crime and vandalism
by the younger members of the family. Against a nuclear family with a stable income
and stable household would again lead to any crimes and vandalism by the offspring
in the family.
Abbott and Wallace s critically judge the new right about how women are being
exploited in the families and how a lot of frustration and unhappiness is able to be
experienced by living in this environment. The new right also disagrees to
acknowledge the violence that can be cause in a nuclear family life and the abuse

socially acceptable to be a one parent family. Some of the ideas that Abbott and
Wallace criticised are that the new right are opposed to

Similarities Between Jesus And Sydney Carton
Hang this question up in your homes What would Jesus do? and then think of
another How would Jesus do it? For what Jesus would do, and how He would do it,
may always stand as the best guide to us. Charles Spurgeon. In the book A Tale of
Two Cities by Charles Dickens, Sydney Carton is a drinker; he is shrewd,
depressed, and self loathing. Sydney Carton does exhibit christlikeness in a few ways
in this novel. He is also portrayed by Dickens as very different in some aspects of
his life from Jesus. Whether Dickens was purposely making these connections or
not, they are there, and they are very clear. Some similarities between Carton and
Jesus Christ are that both of them sacrificed themselves for someone else, they died
out of love, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way he mirrored Jesus is that he was willing to sacrifice himself for someone
else. He died so that Charles Darnay could have a second chance at life. Charles
was on death row because the revolutionaries did not like his family. Sydney Carton
did not like the thought of this so he swapped places with Darnay. This is very
similar to what Jesus did for us because we as humans deserved to die on the cross.
Jesus chose to swap places with us so we would not have to die an eternal death in
hell, but so we could live with him in Heaven. This is our second chance at life.
The second way Sydney Carton is similar to Jesus is that he died out of his love for
someone else. Sydney Carton did not die just because he wanted to save Darnay.
After Mr. Stryver gave up trying to propose to Lucie, Carton visited Lucie and
confessed his love for her. He said that even if she loved him back, he would only
make her miserable. He let her know that if something bad were to occur to her or
her family, he would willingly give his life her and her family. This is exactly what
Jesus did for us. We were condemned to an eternity in hell away from God like
Lucie would have been away from Charles, but Sydney Carton like Jesus loved
Lucie enough to not put her through that pain, just like Jesus could not let us go
through an eternity in hell. The third and final way Sydney Carton symbolized Jesus
in this novel is that he could make no sense of his life

Jealousy In Othello Research Paper
My topic is jealousy in the play Othello. Shakespeare wrote this play as a focus on
the dangers of jealousy. It shows how jealousy can be kept going by nothing more
than circumstantial evidence and how it can destroy people s lives. In Othello
jealousy appears in many ways, from sexual suspicion to professional competition,
but as in all cases it is destructive. Shakespeare proves that jealousy is inherently
unreasonable in this play. He proves it is founded in the psychological issues of the
jealous person, not the behavior of the one who prompts the jealous feelings.
In Othello, jealousy is used to convince the hero, Othello, that his wife has been
unfaithful. In the end Othello murders his wife and kills himself.(5.2.118.1) The

When he sees she was innocent and he killed her unjustly, Othello recovers. He sees
his life in proportion and grieves at the terrible thing he has done. Then, He speaks
with with calm rationality, judging and condemning and finally killing himself. And
the only reason he has done all of this is because he fell prey to his emotions and the
hatred of Iago.
Iago does this because he not only hates Othello but he is jealous of him. He tells
him that his wife is unfaithful to him. Othello is in the early stages of his
relationship so he believes Iago. Iago makes it seem as if Desdemona is cheating on
Othello with someone else. Othello does not even check to see if these things are
true. Iago had pushed him so far that he was past all reason and logic. He rages and
kills his wife and the man she is allegedly having an affair with.
The main theme of the play is to not fall prey to emotions and hasty suspicions.
They are a bad combination and will ruin your life. If you ever get one of these you
should try not to get the other or you are in trouble. So if you are ever having doubts

in the story is Andrew. He is 20 years old and he proposed to Lesia by the end of
the book. He is handsome, stubborn, caring, and Ukrainian. He has a sizable farm
and his wife died before the story started. Andrew Korol has many animals on his
farm; they have a comfortable house as well. Andrew and Lesia have five children.
An invigorating event in the story is when Lesia saves Amy Scott, who is the
daughter of Jack Scott, a store owner. Lesia is selling her butter from the cow Faith

chasing a butterfly. She looks like she will tumble into the river. When the little girl
falls into the river, Lesia runs to save her from the current. Jack Scott is not too
thankful but this event helps Lesia sell the butter and bread from Minnie. The story
concludes when Lesia is talking to her daughter about her life. Lesia, the main
character, got married to Andrew Korol and they had five children: a daughter,

Compare And Contrast The Spanish Civil War And Ww2
Violence Towards Civilians During the Spanish Civil War and World War II State
violence towards civilians maintained large presence in both the Spanish Civil War
and during World War II. Most of the circumstances under which this violence
occurred and the effects that came as a result of it are shared between the two
conflicts; however, there are some differences between the circumstances under
which the atomic bomb was detonated over Hiroshima versus the bombing of
Guernica and other acts of violence directed towards civilians during World WarII.

After the Second World War, the standard for military dominance had been raised,
and the nuclear race began. The world also saw firsthand, again, the depravity of
Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. On a more individual scale, all three of the primary
sources describe how people are fleeing from their homelands. In every example,
violence towards civilians resulted in terror and chaos, and the destruction of entire
communities and heritages. For example, Sam Bankhalter writes that his children
don t know what a grandfather is , or how a traditional family holiday gathering feels.
Each of the primary sources experienced the destruction in an intimate manner, and
the lasting effects can be as destructive to a community as the bombs

Religious Influence On Religion And Environmental...
Did you know that burying the dead underground is a Christian practice? Many
practices and rituals like this contribute to the environment in many ways you never
would ve imagined. Religious influence on the environment is stronger that
environmental influence on religion because different religions contribute practices
and architecture to contribute to their religious landscape.
Religions use architecture to create many holy sites. In christianity, there are many
holy sites in Jerusalem, bethlehem, Yatharth, and Sea of Galilee. In Jerusalem there
is the site of Jesus crucifixion, and the church of Holy Sepulchre, where is believed
that Jesus tomb is. Many christian pilgrims go to Jerusalem to visit many of its holy
sites. In Buddhism, there are also many holy sites. One is the Lumbini in India;
which is where Siddhartha was born. Another is the Bodhgaya in India where he
attained enlightenment and became the Buddha known. Many Buddhist visit many
of this sites to fully visualise how many things have happened to Siddhartha. Another
Religion that has many religious sites is Hinduism. There is the Kaaba; which is the
holiest and most sacred place in Islam. According to that religion the prophet
Abraham and his son Ishmael built it as a symbol of House of God. Another place
is The Prophet Mosque which is in Medina. The prophet Mohammad built it because
of God s command next to where his settle his Hijrah. Muslims go there to pray and
also free their sins.

Negative Effects of Technology Depicted in Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
Imagine a life where the technology is so great that no one ever has to be worried
about being sad or bothered by all the day to day stress. In Brave New World
published in 1932, Aldous Huxley brings the reader into the future of London to see
just what technology can do to a society. As the novel opens, the reader learns about
how the futuristic London is a Utopia, what life is like, and all about the great
technological advancements. After Bernard is introduced to the reader, he goes to the
Reservation and meets John, the Salvage, where he finds out how different life is
between the two societies. In the end, the Controller Mustapha Mond sends Bernard

Another way dystopia is reveled in the novel is through the actions of John. When
he is brought back to London, he does not understand how and why the people live
that way. The author makes it seem as if the people have no feel for what freedom
is, it is almost as if they are slaves, trained and conditioned to do what they are
supposed to do. In an attempt to get the people to believe and rebel against the
civilized world, John throws the soma out the window. Soma is a pill that is given
to the workers to take them to a soma holiday, a place where one is always happy
and can not be bothered by the outside world. After throwing the soma out the
window, John and Bernard are taken to Mustapha Mond s office, a controller of
London. John and the Mustapha Mond get into a discussion about what makes
London so great. On page 263 Mustapha Mond says, [the people are] ignorant of
passion and old age. He is wondering what more anyone could one want besides
never getting old or fat and never having to worry about all the heartaches of
passion. The final way the characters show dystopia is through their speech.
Mustapha Mond says, [the people are] plagued with no mothers or fathers . . . or
lovers . . . they re so conditioned that they practically can not help behaving as they
ought to behave (264). How can life be perfect if one does not have a mother or a

The Impact Of Diversity On College Campus Analysis
Diversity is common among all ages, even children show diversity. But what
determines it? In The Importance and Benefits of Diversity, by Sara T., she
explained that: Diversity is not always just what background you come from but is
any unique difference between human beings. Diversity includes physical
appearance, religious belief, and race but your opinions and thoughts and the
impact they make on society are also part of diversity. This shows us that diversity
can come in many forms, but to grasp a more firm definition, let s look at The
Impact of Diversity on Campus by Ashley Henshaw: On a collegecampus, diversity
refers to the variety of people and experiences to which students will be exposed.
Along with that we have to consider multiple factors that are about day to day life as
Sara T. mostly stated: Religion, cultural background, geographic location,
socioeconomic status, sexual orientation and ability. So with you, the audience, now
understanding how is it form, let s move on to the next topic: How does the

college campuses. Some of these points that show the impact on college campuses
are: 1. Our nation is changing, and our higher education institutions need to reflect
this diversity; 2. While communities of color have made great strides in closing the
education gap, disparities in higher education remain prevalent; 8. The implications
of race neutral policies in educational opportunities are detrimental to the next

Analysis Of Cancion Protest Protest Songs Of Latin America
Ethnographic CD Review: Cancion Protesta During the 20th century, Cuba was
economically weakened and civilians began protesting the governments corruption.
Once Fidel Castro s Communist intentions came to light, many residents fled the
country, only to find out that they would no longer be allowed back in the country
regardless of their origin, in consequence for betraying Castro. Protests rose during
this time and musicians began using their talents to voice their opinions. The CD I

It sounds like a poet is expressing himself to a crowd, which you can hear in the
background with noises of laughter or agreement to the poet s words. At 20:21
minutes in the CD the crowd starts clapping in awe of the poem and the track
ends. Hasta Siempre, Comandante (Song for Che Guevara) is track six on the
CD, it starts off with a slow tempo and soft voices in the background, almost as if
you were outside, around a group of older men. It then accelerates to a type of tone
that hints off a sad scenario in the lyrics. You can hear a membranophone in the
background alongside a chordophone. The song La OEA, Me Causa Risa (The
OAS Makes Me Laugh) has the vocalists literally laugh to the beat which sounds
happy and up beat. I hear an idiophone and a chordophone. At the end of the song
the men laugh outside of the tempo and in a way that frightens a little bit. The
song on track eight is named Coplas del Pajarito (The Little Bird s Complaint), and
it starts of by gradually speeding up the tempo. You can hear the song speed up
between each stroke made on the chordophone being used. The singer sounds
nasally with a quick vibrato in his voice at the end of certain words. The song
Porque los Pobres no Tienen (Because the Poor Have Nothing) there is a woman
singing with a warm voice along to a slow tempo. There is thump in the background,
which means there is an idiophone being used alongside a guitar. The song Me

My Experience With Severe Anxiety
When I reflect on everything that has happened thus far in my lifetime, I am
amazed at how far I have come. I was born on May 31st, 1998. My mom was in
college when she had me, and my father worked two jobs to support the family.
They worked incredibly hard to make sure that I had a good and comfortable life.
They never gave up, even when they were loaded with their many responsibilities,
because they cared so much for me and my future. I truly admire them for that.
They instilled the value of preserving, and never giving up, no matter how tough
your challenges in life are. This value is very important to me, and I believe that I
would not be where I am today if I didn t stay true to this value. This value has been
especially important when I have had to deal with severe anxiety.
I have dealt with anxiety my entire life. The anxiety became especially intense during
my freshman year of high school. It began to severely interfere with my schooling, to
the point where I could not even attend school. I many attempts to continue to attend
school, but these attempts would often end with me having a severe panic attack. This
constant failure to attend school sent me into a bout of depression. All of these
factors led to the decision for me to be put into home hospital, where I would do all
my schoolwork at home, and work with a teacher who came to my house for an
hour each day. This would allow me to focus on receiving professional help with my
anxiety. I met with a therapist

Conscription In Canada Research Paper
It is a well known fact that through Canadian history, English and French Canadians
did not get along very well. French and English Canadians had many differences
throughout history, and as time got closer to the 21st century, situations between
these two groups of people got worse and worse. Their main differences, as seen in
the visual component of my CPT, were usually around times of war, when
conscription was a very big topic. However, we cannot forget the post World War II
situations that caused Canadato change forever. Therefore, the top three events that

Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau decided to implement a solution to finally
stop the French Canadians and English Canadians from constantly fighting with
each other. Therefore, he developed and passed the Official Languages Act, which
was an act that would finally recognize the equal status of English and French
throughout the federal administration, and ensure that all federal institutions
provide their services in English or French at the customer s choice. This act
allowed for French Canadians to no longer be seen as a minority in Canada and to
finally be recognized for who they are. Having Prime Minister Trudeau work very
hard to pass this act showed French Canadians that the Federal Government had
finally recognized all the injustices directed towards them, and that there was no
longer any need for fighting between French and English Canadians. The
importance of this event is that finally, French Canadians were seen and identified
as actual Canadians , and this act is an apology from the Federal government
towards the French Canadians for all the injustice that had happened to them in the
past. The Official Languages Act was a way to show French Canadians that the
culture of the French was in no danger of disappearing (Patriquin, Canada s language

Abstract The traditional energy networks to smart grids transformation can help in
improving the reliability, performance and manageability. An efficient and real time
scheme to detect FDI(False Data Injection) attacks in smart grids, by exploiting
spatial temporal correlations between grid components. False data injection attacks
have recently been introduced as an important class of cyber attacks against smart
grids wide area measurement and monitoring systems. Once the attack is been
detected, the system can take preventive action and alert the manager to take
preventative action to sense the risk and to limit the risk. Defensive strategies is been

Do not overreact to your mistakes. They are not failures. They are setbacks.
Failure happens when you stop trying. Never stop. Mistakes often cannot be
corrected. It is more important to accept them, learn from them, and move forward.
If you miss a meal or a training session, do not try to make one up. Review how and
why you missed the meal or training session to prevent from repeating the same
mistake in the future. Move on by focusing on your next meal or training session.
This keeps you on track and that much closer to achieving your objectives. Do not

Mass Media Influence On American Culture
Major developments in the evolution of Mass Media
The new era of technology led to major developments in the evolution of mass
media, worldwide. In our society, we originally communicated orally before the
Internet and wireless devices existed. Individuals relied on traditional forms of mass
media, such as the television, radio, newspapers, and magazines, to attain knowledge
of the outside world. Thereafter, the development of new forms mass media evolved,
and we were introduced to the Internet and other wireless communication devices
such as IPads and tablets, smart phones and social media sites. Regardless of the rise
and fall in popularity of certain forms of mass media, the evolution of mass media
influenced the American culture greatly.
Mass Media influence on American culture
The evolution of mass media has affected our social institutions: family, religion,
morality and education, on an unprecedented scale. For most of us in the American
culture, the new forms of mass media are entwined with both of our personal and
professional lifestyles. Understanding how the development of these forms of mass
media has been and continues to influence our American culture is vital. It will help
us appreciate the role media plays in our life and will also help us to be more
informed as citizens, consumers, and employees. Barnett, 2004 noted that The

are parents and other stakeholders such as, schools, juvenile justice system and law

responsible when a child is chronically truant (California Legislative Information ,

throughout California. Police officers are now hired to work in collaboration with
schools to reduce delinquent behaviors including truancies. The impact has created
a new need for police officers to work on school campus, however teachers are now

California, more than 50 percent of the school districts give staff complete option

I believe I was able to include all of the components specified in the planning and
preparation stages of my website.
I created a structure diagram which is a conceptual modeling tool used to
document the different structures that make up a system, such as a database or an

modules of the system. I have added all the links of the websites I will be using.
However, due to my website plan being complex I added fewer links and made it less
complex, but it looks professional. The index of files and pages is a list showing
the folders and files I will use on my website. This made life a lot easier because I
was more organised. As well as, I could just copy the name of the file that I would

twenty first century, cutting edge technology and pastimes were introduced. Nightlife
was increased due to flappers and jazz music, and the invention of the radio provided

called the Golden age of Sports because they became popular so quickly (Baughman).

The numerous cultures of Mainland China are both intricate with their systems of
deities and traditions, and yet humble with their ways of life and survival. China is
located in the midst of high lands, plateaus, canyons and numerous river systems. In
coinciding with the difficult landscapes in which they live, the Chinese people have
managed to generally abide by the natural protocols of the land. Throughout their

All history before the Shang dynasty is largely legendary with very little or no

without being affected by fatigue. People who participate in games that require
having to sustain or repeatedly do an action for a long period of time need to have
good muscular endurance in order to be successful and do what they need to do in
order to win without becoming weary. Badminton players will need to have a high
degree of muscular endurance in order to maintain a good performance throughout
the whole match, which may last for about 45 to 75 minutes. Without great Muscular
endurance, players will become tired easily and therefore their shots become less
accurate. This will affect the quality of their shots as well as the quality of their
performance and
Amazon Warrior Women Research Paper
Have you ever wanted to go back to the Roman and Greek times? Have you ever
wanted to know who was alive back then? Have you ever wondered who the
warriors back then were? The Amazon Warrior women are the answers to all of
those questions. The Amazon Warrior Women were unlike others in their time
period because they were a group of women warriors who fought like men. They
didn t allow men in their society, and they worshiped the goddess Artemis, and the
god Ares. The Amazon warrior Women were a group of women warriors who were

Importance Of Australian Identity In The Play Summer Of...
Good morning everyone. I am extremely privileged today to be permitted the
opportunity to address the Archaeological Institute for the Preservation of Cultural
Heritage concerning the time capsule discovered and the significance of the articles
to our culture. The paraphernalia contained within the time capsule included the play
Summer of the Seventeenth Doll , by Ray Lawler, which can be used to demonstrate
aspects of the Australian identity which are unique to this country and are ultimately
timeless. The play follows the lives of various Australian figures, including Northern
Queensland cane cutters and Carlton barmaids, during the lay off season as well as
the many aspects of conflict that occur. The Australian identity presented by this play
is reinforced through a second article found within the time capsule, a review of the
play, A Clear eyed Revival for the 21st century , written by John McCallum. The play
has new things to say to each generation about the Australian character and it s
because of this reason that the play resonated with audiences then and now. Through
these artefacts, three primary aspects of the Australian identity have been developed;
masculinity, mateship, and Australian colloquialism. These characteristics form the
basis of the Australian identity, demonstrating its immutability and exhibiting the
rituals and values for which Australiais known for.
The metaphor of masculinity is one of the main attributes of Australian identity

Aspects of Stress Essays
Aspects of Stress
a) Selye (1936/50) studied the behaviour of rats under stress through electric shock,
and on hospital patients and realised that they all reacted to stress in the same
patterns. He called this pattern the General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS). He stated
that it involved three stages:
Alarm Reaction Stage: This involved the sympathetic branch of the Autonomic
Nervous System (ANS) activating the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal system, creating
a fight or flight situation within the body.
Resistance Stage: This kicks in when the alarm reaction stage is at a full. The
parasympathetic nervous system looks for ways to use resources more cautiously. The
body attempts to recharge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
c) One physiological method of stress management is the use of Anti Anxiety Drugs.
These are drugs taken to try and contradict the body s natural hormones, which
produce anxiety, and bring the body back to homeostasis. Drugs such as Beta
Blockers reduce activity in the sympathetic nervous system and trigger the
cardiovascular muscles to relax and lowers blood pressure. Bergodiazepines such as
Valium reduce arousal by increasing activity of the neurotransmitter GABA that
decreases seratonin. There are many benefits to using these drugs, as beta blockers
are not addictive and can be affective in reducing the effects of stress in the short
term. However there are also many costs of using Anti Anxiety Drugs, such as
possible headaches and depression (Goa Ward 1986), memory lose, tiredness,
addictiveness (Ashton 1997), problems with coordination and concentration, slurred
speech, delirium, sweating, irritability, does not cure affects of stress and is not a
long term solution.
Another form of physiological stress management is the use of biofeedback. This is a
technique that aims to control autonomic muscles through the use of feedback about
current physiological functioning, with relaxation being a key component of this.
There are 3 stages of biofeedback; awareness of body

Differences Between Random Drift And Natural Selection
nteractions between Natural Selection and Random Drift:
Some biologists such as Gillespie (1998) and Roughgarden (1979) often say that
evolution is the outcome of the interaction of what they call evolutionary forces such
as natural selection, migration, random drift, muatation, and mating preferences.
Sober (1984b) argued for a realist interpretation of such talk, claiming that it describes
factors which casually influence evolution. Just recently, some authors have attacked
this realist interpretation of force talk those authors being Walsh (2000), Matthen
and Ariew (2002). Aspects of Sober s conception have been defended by Stephens
(2005), Reisman and Forber (2005). However, advocates of a realist interpretation
have not presented a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also argued that natural selection and one sort of random drift can correspond to
different aspects of such a population level probability distribution. Natural selection
is the aspect of the distribution which is under the control of fitness differences, and
drift is the aspect of the distribution which is under the control of population size. If
the probabilities involved are causal, then changes in the probability distribution are
changes in causal probabilities of future frequencies in the population. Exactly how
we view causal role of selection and drift in producing future frequencies will depend
on what sort of causal character the probabilities have. For example, if they are
dispositional, then the relation of selection and drift to actual frequencies will be the
relation of dispositions to their manifestations. We therefore have a framework in
which natural selection and drift can count as
causal factors, forces if you will. Moreover, it is now clear just what their causal
character will

Moral Dilemma Case
It is the situation of moral dilemma and it covers the issue of the primacy of public
interest, honesty, competence and professionalism (which are a part of ACS code
of ethics) Nirmal clearly sees that the offer made by company A is better for his
organization. To his surprise he realizes that 2ndcompany in the competition is run
by his friend Devraj. Adding fuel to the situation he also receives a phone call from
Devraj urging him to favor his offer. Nirmal is totally pressed between his
profession and his friendship with Devraj. Who are the interested parties? What are
their relationships? The government department of which Nirmal is a senior
employee and Company B (which is run by Devraj) are the interested parties in this
case. The government department has decided to acquire an Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP) system. Nirmal is in charge of the selection process. He has... Show

I believe Nirmal should ask the exact same question to himself. If he thinks by going
against the will of his friend is better for him, the organization he is working and the
people around him than he should stick to his decision. Nobody should be given the
unfair advantage (this is the policy of free market) and everyone should be treated
equally. If I were in the similar circumstances, I would follow the similar path as
Nirmal did to solve this situation of conflict of interest by giving the preference to the
Company A in selection process as it is the deserving one. References: Anon (2014).

The Importance Of Artificial Disasters
Natural and artificial disasters have always posed a threat to the development of
countries across the world. In that regard, different governments have already
established strategies that can be implemented to deal effectively with the disasters,
which occur. It has been observed that the developing countries are slightly behind
than the developed ones regarding dealing effectively with the disasters that occur
abruptly. When a disasteroccurs, the priority is to reduce the vulnerability of people
to hazards such as terror attacks and natural disasters. Therefore, to save human lives
and also reduce property damage, in the long run, disaster analysis is a very
important part in disaster management. In a given society, disasters can... Show more

Human activity such as deforestation has led to global warming. Due to the event,
there has been significant changes weather to extreme conditions. Extreme weather
has adverse effects on the functional and structural infrastructure that the community
depends on. For this reason, steps should be taken to mitigate these disasters from
occurring and even during management and recovery efforts. The other disaster
theory relates to the entire body of knowledge and human behavior. That
encompasses many areas to include physical and emotional activities and there are
many different sources that require further exploration such as, The United States
has experienced high population growth rates, developments of tall buildings, rise in
competition for the use of the available natural resource; all these factors have been
some of the human activities that have contributed to the increase in risk of natural
calamities. It has been observed that in the regions where there is an often high
population it difficult to respond to any disaster when it occurs, and as a result they
are often affected with increase casualties. In any community, the social
consequences as a result of the natural and the man made disasters are larger than the
physical effects, but the primary damage includes the destruction of buildings and
roads while the secondary damages are the social damages such as deaths, and also

New Order, Bizarre Love Triangle, from Substance, 1987
Most people who have watched a soap opera can recognize that the love triangle is a
crucial element to the plot. In fact, the original radio broadcasted soap operas seemed

religious one. Like Greta, Sue also had a sick man die after braving
Alfred Hitchcock Homosexual
Alfred Hitchcock s Rope is a remarkable film that gives the illusion of a non stop
shot. The film is all about hiding secrets, and the whole plot consists of the main
characters Brandon and Phillip covering up a murder that they committed. But a
murder isn t the only thing that Phillip and Brandon are trying to hide. Alfred
Hitchcockpresents the characters Brandon and Phillip in a way that supports that they
are in a homosexual relationship. If you pay close attention through the whole film
you discover that Brandon and Phillip are more than just friends. The film also hints
that Brandon has an underlying love for his former prep school housemaster Rupert.
Throughout Rope Alfred Hitchcock leaves underlying traces of homosexuality.

Brandon also is attracted to his former prep school housemaster Rupert. Brandon
planned the whole murder to impress Rupert, and achieve his affection. This is
presented in a number of ways throughout the whole film. Brandon has always had
some sort of attraction towards Rupert. Kenneth said, Brandon would spend sit up
till all hours at the master s feet . This describes where Brandon s obsession with
Rupert began. The attraction to Rupert can also be seen during Rupert s
conversation with Mrs. Atwater. During it Rupert explains that murder should be
an art. Soon after, the camera begins to pan away from Rupert and Mrs. Atwater.
You then see Brandon listening in on the conversation, he begins to slightly lick
his lips and then joins in on the conversation with full excitement and passion. This
shows the basis of Brandon s idea. To plan a murder, make it a piece of art, and
slightly leave enough clues so that Rupert can figure it out. Brandon isn t killing
because it s some type of new art form, he is killing in order to achieve Rupert s
affection. You can see Brandon getting defensive later on after Mr.Kentley slashes
away at Rupert s ideas. Before getting cut off by Mr. Kentley you can hear Brandon
call Rupert intelligent and imaginative. Here Brandon is afraid that Mr. Kentley
will affect Rupert s opinion on Murder being an art, so he gets defensive in order to
keep the plan on track. Similar to when Phillip got defensive about choking chickens,
both Phillip and Brandon get defensive in order to keep things the way they

Stopping Over The Counter Birth Control
As a women, there are many things females go through every day. The most complex
thing about being a women, is becoming pregnant. Any females probably does not
want to be pregnant at the time. As well as having safe sex, the female wants to
protect themselves at all times. What I mean at all times is that females have an
advantage, which helps out more than a condom. Their advantage is birth control,
which can help out from preventing pregnancy, or help out with their menstrual cycle
that women go through every day as well.
As a female visiting the doctor for the first time, some may ask what birth control to
their doctor is. Birth control is pretty complex, if any female does not take it a
certain way. There are multiple ways to take birth control such as the pill, the Depo
shot, or the Nuva Ring, and many more. As doing research, about 98% of women in

reason why Plan B is over the counter because it has no effect on the female unlike

that will cause a lot of side effects. The fact that Plan B is ineffective is the only
reason why it is over the counter, other than that birth control is more effective and
more risky than

Lesson 1: The 1848 Revolution, the Second Reich, and the First World War The
Second Reich lasted from 1871 until 1918. The first era was known as The Era of
Bismarck where Germany started to become a powerful economic and political force
in Europe. However, due to Bismarck s authoritarian rule causing political and
social tensions, he was removed from office. William I reined as emperor since the
founding of the Second Reich but died in 1888. His son Frederick III then took

Islands were gained in the Pacific as well as a 99 year lease for the territory of
Kiautschou in northeast China. This immediately led to conflict with other European
countries for the remaining territories as Germany was on the later end of
colonization. Every European power except Austria and Russia had established
colonies in Africa causing conflicts among the nations especially Germany, France,
Britain, and Italy. Germany rivaled over Morocco with France, which almost led to
war. Italy lost Tunis to France in a conflict causing turmoil as well. The European
countries seemed mostly at peace with one another and their colonies until Germany
started to jump on the bandwagon. Overall, these colonization efforts were due to the
fact that each country in Europe wanted to be considered the most powerful. When
these arguments and battles started breaking out over who owned which colony, the
international tensions became worse in Europe, starting the bigger conflict leading
up to World War I
.
As a result of all of this conflict, colonial and economic rivalry led to an arms race.
Powerful lobbying groups in Germany desired a large navy to give Germany a
worldwide role and to protect a growing German colonial empire in Africa and the
Pacific. Admiral von Tirpitz, German Minister of Marine, launched the German naval
expansion program, which had many domestic supporters. He ordered the building of
a fleet of massive battleships

  • 2. President Obama s State Of The Union Address One of the most highly debated proposals from President Barack Obama s State of the Union address is a new government program that would cover the cost of community college. The American College Promise would provide free tuition to students who enroll in a community college for at least half time, maintain a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA), make steady progress towards completing an associate s degree and cannot have an adjusted gross income of above two hundred thousand dollars. Obama has stated that the new proposal will benefit roughly nine million students each year by earning them an associate s degree at no cost. Although the new proposal can be seen as a panacea for all incoming collegestudents, the opposition is true due to the fact that community collegeis affordable, exclusive, and will hurt the economy by causing the current United Statesdebt to increase. Many critiques against community college being tuition free state that our economy will improve. This is being proven by Wyner who states that it is necessary to close the percentage gap of jobs that will require a college education. Yes, it is true that a college education will be required for 60% of jobs, it doesn t mean that community college should be free. If anything, making college free, will affect the economy . The White House stated that the cost of implementing a tuition free community college program will be over sixty billion dollars over ten years. The money will come from taxpayer dollars.

Her most notable publications include The Republic of Letters: A Cultural History of the French Enlightenment (1994) and Becoming a Woman in the Age of Letters (2009). In her article, Enlightenment Salons: The Convergence of Female and Philosophic Ambition, (1989) Dena Goodman stresses the pivotal role of women, as salonniГЁres, in the transformation and governance of eighteenth century French Enlightenment salons, which were the base of the philosophes pursuit of the Enlightenment project; furthermore, Goodman argues the reciprocal successes of the Republic of Letters and the Enlightenment salons was fostered by their ... The motivations were various and complex, from trying to advance from social dissipation to trying to supplement the education that was denied to them as children. However, as illustrated by eighteenth century French theologian and moralist, Jacques Joseph Duget, there was a perception of frivolous and licentious salon women in the seventeenth century corrupting society, particularly by feminizing men. Salons in the eighteenth century had evolved from this, now trying to revive society through the philosophes Republic of Letters. The salons were reclaimed from aristocracy and utilized by the philosophes as a space of collaboration and intellectual exchange, fostering Enlightenment ideas, particularly egalitarianism. Salons were characterized by the acknowledged equality among the participants as well as the birth of intellectual practice as a valuable interest. The serious tone of the salon as a workspace provided philosophes with the environment necessary to spread the ideals of the Enlightenment, including the involvement of women in the enlightened community. The Republic of Letters developed complementarily with the salon s social, institutional advancements, mirroring the interconnectivity of philosophes and salonniГЁres alike in the Enlightenment project. Epistolary networks of intellectual discussion and the continued exchange of letters was vital to the growth and characterization of the Republic of

Laredo Field Office Essay According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, professionalism is defined as the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person. A few pages to the left, efficient is defined as productive of desired effects, especially productive without waste, an efficient worker. A few more pages to the left, cordial is defined as showing or marked by warm and often hearty friendliness, favor, or approval, a cordial welcome. All three terms are a few to which all officers assigned to Laredo Field Office (LFO) are either born with and which a few even learn on the job. As a Supervisory CBP Officer, hearing a complaint from a member of the traveling public is almost a given; it is never a rare occasion. One has a better chance to win $10 on a Texas Lotto Scratch Ticket than receiving a compliment; however, that was not the case on the evening of July 18th, 2017. A member of the traveling public expressed the professionalism, efficiency, and courtesy from a new recruit. How did the traveler tell if it was new recruit? The traveler had never seen him before, nor did the officer have any rank on his shoulder. The traveler stated that he had never crossed the border into Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, but he has crossed many times through the Del Rio Port of Entry into... • 5. The Landolt Iodine Clock Reaction The Landolt iodine clock reaction is a well known experiment characterised by a notable clear to blue colour change. This experiment is often used to determine the rate at which reactions take place. This colour change transpires when I2 reacts with 1% starch and NaHSO3 to form a blue starch and iodine solution. The rate of reaction is accurately recorded with a stopwatch as soon as the blue colour change is visible to the human eye. Rates of chemical reactions can be defined as the amount of a particular reactant consumed in mol/L per second (Anon, 2017) These rate laws have crucial effects in everyday life. There are five factors that affect a reaction rate. These are known as temperature, concentration, the presence of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second variable that will be tested is temperature. If a liquid is heated the particles are given more energy and move faster and faster expanding the liquid. (Jones, 2000) When the particles have more energy they move around more and are thus more likely to collide which speeds up the rate of the reaction. The opposite also becomes true when the temperature is lowered. This will be shown in the experiment by two separate tests. The first will be conducted in a hot water bath at 70в„ѓ and the second in an ice bath of 0в„ѓ. It is commonly thought that the blue colour change will occur faster at a warmer temperature and very slowly in a freezing temperature. This experiment studies the kinetic reaction of a potassium iodate stock solution reacting with sodium bisulfite and water. The slope value is the instantaneous rate at the time indicated at the point which the tangential line touches the concentration curve. The best
  • 6. Synthetic Biology Therapies And Treatment Of Infectious... To begin, synbio technology is becoming a necessity in the biomedicine and pharmaceutical industry. Synthetic biology therapies has been developed for the treatment of infectious diseases and cancer, as well as approaches in vaccine development (Ruder et al., 2011). As Ruder et al. (2011) have discovered, effective synthetic biologytherapies can been rationally designed and constructed to alter mechanisms underlying disease and related biological processes. In the process of developing synthetic biologyfor prevention of infection, bacteriophages have been manipulated to attack bacterial strains by disrupting antibiotic defense mechanisms. The development of these synthetic biology therapies is essential in preventing widespread of diseases which may be unstoppable using other means. In the case of cancer treatment, synthetic biology plays an even more important role. Despite the success of modern cancer therapies, the major therapeutic interventions surgery, radiation and chemotherapy still causes considerable damage to healthy tissues in cancer patients. In this aspect, synthetic biology is no longer merely an alternative, but more of a necessity as we need new cancer treatments that precisely distinguish between diseases and healthy cells (Ruder et al., 2011). With synthetic biology, synbiologists are able to engineer bacteria to target and invade only cancer cells, programming the invasion to occur only in specific vivo conditions, as well as engineering bacteria
  • 7. Risk Based Portfolio Construction Methods Risk Based Portfolios In this section, Lee Wai (2001) briefly explained characteristics of the four well known risk based portfolio construction methods Equally Weighted Portfolio, Global Mean Variance Portfolio, Most Diversified Portfolio, and Risk Contribution Portfolio. First, the equally weighted portfolio is the simplest portfolio construction approach that gives all assets same weights (Lee, 2011). Lee described the portfolio as the most heuristic portfolio because it completely ignores the return and risk relationship of investments. Lee also argued that equal weighting of assets does not guarantee diversification since this strategy does not have any consideration of correlation among assets. This is the complete and undeniable truth. As we have learned from the investment and financial theory courses, some of assets have close relationship that can be estimated by covariance between assets. Second, the global minimum variance portfolio (GMV) is a unique portfolio on a portfolio frontier since it has the lowest volatility (Lee, 2011). Lee explained that although the marginal contribution to risk of all assets in the GMV is identical, this does not mean risk contributions of each asset is equal because of the different weights and volatilities of assets in the portfolio. Moreover, the GMV tends to have high weights on low volatility assets in order to lower the total volatility of the portfolio. As a result, the GMV portfolio can be more sensitive to the
  • 8. Voting In Voting Being able to vote is a privilege that has been granted to us at the age of 18 for over 40 years now. Although 18 year olds and above are granted the opportunity to vote in something that can make a difference in politics not everyone takes the time to participate in voting. Most of the voting has been done by older people because they have had more experience and interest in politics. With that being said I think the more realistic decision to make is keeping 16 and 17 years olds from votinguntil they reach the age of 18. On November 13, 2017, Annys Shin published an article called Takoma Park 16 year old savors his history making moment at the polls. In that article Shin explains that in the Montgomery County has been one of the first communities to allow 16 and 17 years olds to vote. The student that have been elected to vote felt important and special for being able to have a say in votes at such a young age. For those who weren t chosen might of not had a problem with it simply because they weren t interested. Even when they teen reach the age of 18 the first thing they think about is not running up to a polland vote, they have money other ideas then waiting so long to go to the polls and voting at the first opportunity that they get. We cannot be more excited to have the 16 17 year olds vote then they are themselves. If they are not eager to vote at 16 17 then why even have the idea to push them to be hungry to vote and be involved in politics. The teens that
  • 9. Modern Dance History The history of modern dance dates back as early as the 19th century when Isadora Duncan, began her career as a performer and choreographer, leading her to evolve into one of the world s most renown and innovative modern dance influences of the time. A rich history followed with the birth of other significant and revolutionary individuals such as Martha Graham in 1894 (Terry, 2017) and George Balanchine in 1904 (Walker, 2017). These pioneers of dance, introduced the world to a new style of choreography, originally derived from and based upon romantic classical ballet. The Oxford Dictionary (1989) defines modern danceas a free expressive style of dancing that developed in the early 20th century as a reaction to classical ballet. Classical ballet has a rigid style, it requires supreme discipline and structured movement. Modern dance was established as an alternative way to perform, where dancers were not restricted by costume or movement and used this freedom to push visual boundaries. Many people criticised the choreography and reviewers in the 1930 s 1940 s wrote of how it was unsavoury and distasteful (Gilbert, 1999), although, eventually becoming a worldwide phenomenon. It can be argued that Balanchine, Graham and Duncan were inevitably the three most significant dance figures in the development of modern dance choreography from foundations built by romantic classical ballet. A variety of expert sources highlight that there has been a clear development of modern dance

In almost 150 years baseball history, only the great Willie Mays can match Ken Griffey Jr. in these statistical categories. However, despite these extraordinary stats, Ken Griffey Jr. may be the ultimate What Could Have Been player. An incredibly promising career was derailed in the latter half by chronic injuries that robbed him of hundreds of games. If not for these injuries, Griffey was well on his way to becoming the Home RunKing (Stark, 2010) and possibly the greatest player ever. His 1989 rookie card remains the most popular baseball card ever. During the prime of his career in the late 1990s, he was easily the most popular baseball player and possibly even most popular athlete in the world. Nowhere in the country is he more popular than in Seattle, where he is considered the savior of baseball in the city. In the 1980s, the Mariners were a historically moribund franchise playing in the crumbling Kingdome. Prior to his arrival, the Mariners had been seriously considering a move to Washington DC, but that all changed once Griffey came (Fort, 2000, p. 313). His exciting style of play immediately attracted fans and attention to the franchise (Caple, 2010). In 1995, Griffey led a miracle rally to the Mariners first playoff appearance in decades (Reader, 2010), and capped the season by scoring the game winning run to defeat the New York Yankees in the first round (Schaefer, 2003, p.6). His rise rejuvenated baseball and the city in general, leading the building of the new stadium, Safeco Field , dubbed the House That Griffey Built . Griffey s most enduring legacy, however, was being one of the few star players who were not involved in
  • 11. Libertarianism Research Paper Libertarianism as a type of government gives the view that each individual has the right to live how they please, as long as the individual respects and does not interfere with another individuals life (Boaz 1997, 2). Rights are not given by government but are bestowed upon a person by virtue of being human and libertarians defend an individual s rights to property, life and liberty (Boaz 1997, 2). The libertarianismframework which stands for economic development and liberty under law is suited to the changing world, the dynamic world of today (Boaz 1997, 3). The main concept of libertarianism is individualism, where libertarians see every individual as their own person capable of making choices and being held responsible for their actions (Boaz 1997, 12). Individual rights are held to a high account, with each person having the right to be secure in life, property and liberty through virtue of being human (Boaz 1997, 12). Order in society is another core concept, developing from the integration of people and coordination within trade (Boaz 1997, 13). The rule of law argues that people are free to do what they want, as long as they do not interfere with another person s life (Boaz 1997, 13). A limited... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. Walt Disney Executive Summary Tokyo Disneyland was opened to the public on April 15, 1983. This amusement park was owned and operated by an unrelated Japanese corporation. The Walt Disney Company received royalties, paid in Yen, on certain revenues generated by Tokyo Disneyland. This new overseas business venture was bringing some concern about the foreign exchange risk to Disney. The management team at the Disney has been considering hedging future Yen inflows from Disney Tokyo since 1985. Mr. Anderson, the director of finance at The Walt Disney Company, focused his attention on a possible 15 billion ten year term loan with an interestrate of 7.5% paid semiannually. Net income totaled $97.8 million in 1984, an increase of 5% from 1983.when looking at the Consolidated Balance Sheet (Exhibit2), we found that the total assets grew 15% to $2.7 billion at the end of fiscal 1984 due to addition of real estate inventories as part of the acquisition of another company. The ratio of debt to total capitalization jumped to 43% at 1984 from 20% at previous year. With the first opening of Tokyo Disneyland operated by an independent Japanese company and the inflow of Yen royalty receipts, the foreign exchange rate risk began to emerge. As the Yen depreciated, the revenues from the royalties were shrinking from 1980 to 1985. Therefore, the weak Yen had a negative influence on Disney s total net income. We also know the goal of the firm s management is to make the firm as valuable as possible, and then the firm should pick the debt equity ratio that makes the pie as big as possible. Usually, the total value of the firm equals the sum of the total debt and total equity. (V=D+E). As shown in the right chart, we can clearly get a conclusion that an increase in total value of debt will increase the total value of Disney from 1983 to 1984. We can maximize Disney s value by creating more value of the debt. If we expose the Yen debt to the risk of the fluctuation in Yen dollar exchange rates, it would also have great impact on the total value of our debt and
  • 13. St Brigid Research Paper St Brigid of Kildare was born in 452 AD. She was a catholic nun who became one of the patron saints of Ireland. She dedicated her whole life to following Jesus s message; which was to love god, and love others. She shared this as her own message, through the love and support she gave to others in the community. Like Jesus she wanted to help the less fortunate and give to those that were in need, offering them hope and faith. She chose to seek out justice among her community and society, working around the lives of many. She was inspired by Jesus spirituality, nature and love, that she wanted to demonstration her appreciation and strength to those who were struggling. For example, she used her middle class lifestyle to contribute to feeding the poor and nursing those who were injured or sick. Her childhood was filled with donating her mothers and father s possessions to anyone who asked (Online, n.d.). St Brigid impacted all people around her. She inspired greatness to those who needed her compassion and belief. For her endless time and support, it is suggested that her message transcends time well beyond her death to the individuals and groups along the years to today. One function of the family would be reproduction or having children as this is imperative for the world as they will be the future workforce. For example family businesses will need to pass down the factories/shops to the next generation in the family for the continuing of the ancestors business. As a result men may be reject by the women as they can t financially depend on them so would rather be given benefits than struggle to keep a roof over them and their children s heads. Halsey debates that being in a one parent family with the factors of unemployment and poverty being high could inevitably lead to crime and vandalism by the younger members of the family. Moving beyond crowd surveillance, drones are raising a lot of questions in reference to the Fourth Amendment that protects citizens and their houses, papers and effects from unreasonable searches and seizures (U.S. Const. amend IV). As drones have the potential to become important tools in police investigations, there are many situations presented that fall outside of the Fourth Amendment s regulation but fit in well enough to raise it as an issue (Koerner 2015). • 16. Similarities Between Jesus And Sydney Carton Hang this question up in your homes What would Jesus do? and then think of another How would Jesus do it? For what Jesus would do, and how He would do it, may always stand as the best guide to us. Charles Spurgeon. In the book A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, Sydney Carton is a drinker; he is shrewd, depressed, and self loathing. Sydney Carton does exhibit christlikeness in a few ways in this novel. He is also portrayed by Dickens as very different in some aspects of his life from Jesus. Whether Dickens was purposely making these connections or not, they are there, and they are very clear. Some similarities between Carton and Jesus Christ are that both of them sacrificed themselves for someone else, they died out of love, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One way he mirrored Jesus is that he was willing to sacrifice himself for someone else. He died so that Charles Darnay could have a second chance at life. Charles was on death row because the revolutionaries did not like his family. Sydney Carton did not like the thought of this so he swapped places with Darnay. This is very similar to what Jesus did for us because we as humans deserved to die on the cross. Jesus chose to swap places with us so we would not have to die an eternal death in hell, but so we could live with him in Heaven. This is our second chance at life. The second way Sydney Carton is similar to Jesus is that he died out of his love for someone else. Sydney Carton did not die just because he wanted to save Darnay. After Mr. Stryver gave up trying to propose to Lucie, Carton visited Lucie and confessed his love for her. He said that even if she loved him back, he would only make her miserable. He let her know that if something bad were to occur to her or her family, he would willingly give his life her and her family. This is exactly what Jesus did for us. We were condemned to an eternity in hell away from God like Lucie would have been away from Charles, but Sydney Carton like Jesus loved Lucie enough to not put her through that pain, just like Jesus could not let us go through an eternity in hell. The third and final way Sydney Carton symbolized Jesus in this novel is that he could make no sense of his life

  • 18. Jealousy In Othello Research Paper My topic is jealousy in the play Othello. Shakespeare wrote this play as a focus on the dangers of jealousy. It shows how jealousy can be kept going by nothing more than circumstantial evidence and how it can destroy people s lives. In Othello jealousy appears in many ways, from sexual suspicion to professional competition, but as in all cases it is destructive. Shakespeare proves that jealousy is inherently unreasonable in this play. He proves it is founded in the psychological issues of the jealous person, not the behavior of the one who prompts the jealous feelings. In Othello, jealousy is used to convince the hero, Othello, that his wife has been unfaithful. In the end Othello murders his wife and kills himself.(5.2.118.1) The reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he sees she was innocent and he killed her unjustly, Othello recovers. He sees his life in proportion and grieves at the terrible thing he has done. Then, He speaks with with calm rationality, judging and condemning and finally killing himself. And the only reason he has done all of this is because he fell prey to his emotions and the hatred of Iago. Iago does this because he not only hates Othello but he is jealous of him. He tells him that his wife is unfaithful to him. Othello is in the early stages of his relationship so he believes Iago. Iago makes it seem as if Desdemona is cheating on Othello with someone else. Othello does not even check to see if these things are true. Iago had pushed him so far that he was past all reason and logic. He rages and kills his wife and the man she is allegedly having an affair with. The main theme of the play is to not fall prey to emotions and hasty suspicions. They are a bad combination and will ruin your life. If you ever get one of these you should try not to get the other or you are in trouble. So if you are ever having doubts about someone ask them, don t listen to your friends. They might not know the truth or the whole

I created a structure diagram which is a conceptual modeling tool used to document the different structures that make up a system, such as a database or an application. It shows the hierarchy or structure of the different components or modules of the system. I have added all the links of the websites I will be using. However, due to my website plan being complex I added fewer links and made it less complex, but it looks professional. The index of files and pages is a list showing the folders and files I will use on my website. This made life a lot easier because I was more organised. As well as, I could just copy the name of the file that I would save it as. Also, this saves me time. However, it makes it more time consuming saving it a particular way looking for the index of files and pages document. Improvements I could have done made the titles shorter, which would have made me save my time. I also created an action plan. This is because then I would be aware when I should complete a particular task. This will enable me to complete my task before my deadline. As well as, if there are any personal circumstances and I am unable to complete a task I can catch up or even be ahead before my estimated time when I will complete the task. This means that I can improve my work if I made an

China is located in the midst of high lands, plateaus, canyons and numerous river systems. Little is known about the Xia dynasty except for that it had lasted four hundred years and was ultimately overthrown by the Shang,a state that was east of the Chinese establishment. People who participate in games that require having to sustain or repeatedly do an action for a long period of time need to have good muscular endurance in order to be successful and do what they need to do in order to win without becoming weary. I am extremely privileged today to be permitted the opportunity to address the Archaeological Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage concerning the time capsule discovered and the significance of the articles to our culture. The paraphernalia contained within the time capsule included the play Summer of the Seventeenth Doll , by Ray Lawler, which can be used to demonstrate aspects of the Australian identity which are unique to this country and are ultimately timeless. The play follows the lives of various Australian figures, including Northern Queensland cane cutters and Carlton barmaids, during the lay off season as well as the many aspects of conflict that occur. The Australian identity presented by this play is reinforced through a second article found within the time capsule, a review of the play, A Clear eyed Revival for the 21st century , written by John McCallum. The play has new things to say to each generation about the Australian character and it s because of this reason that the play resonated with audiences then and now. Through these artefacts, three primary aspects of the Australian identity have been developed; masculinity, mateship, and Australian colloquialism. These characteristics form the basis of the Australian identity, demonstrating its immutability and exhibiting the rituals and values for which Australiais known for. The metaphor of masculinity is one of the main attributes of Australian identity integrated

He stated that it involved three stages: Alarm Reaction Stage: This involved the sympathetic branch of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) activating the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal system, creating a fight or flight situation within the body. Resistance Stage: This kicks in when the alarm reaction stage is at a full. The parasympathetic nervous system looks for ways to use resources more cautiously. The body attempts to recharge ... These are drugs taken to try and contradict the body s natural hormones, which produce anxiety, and bring the body back to homeostasis. Drugs such as Beta Blockers reduce activity in the sympathetic nervous system and trigger the cardiovascular muscles to relax and lowers blood pressure. Bergodiazepines such as Valium reduce arousal by increasing activity of the neurotransmitter GABA that decreases seratonin. There are many benefits to using these drugs, as beta blockers are not addictive and can be affective in reducing the effects of stress in the short term. However there are also many costs of using Anti Anxiety Drugs, such as possible headaches and depression (Goa Ward 1986), memory lose, tiredness, addictiveness (Ashton 1997), problems with coordination and concentration, slurred speech, delirium, sweating, irritability, does not cure affects of stress and is not a long term solution. Differences Between Random Drift And Natural Selection nteractions between Natural Selection and Random Drift: Some biologists such as Gillespie (1998) and Roughgarden (1979) often say that evolution is the outcome of the interaction of what they call evolutionary forces such as natural selection, migration, random drift, muatation, and mating preferences. Sober (1984b) argued for a realist interpretation of such talk, claiming that it describes factors which casually influence evolution. Just recently, some authors have attacked this realist interpretation of force talk those authors being Walsh (2000), Matthen and Ariew (2002). Aspects of Sober s conception have been defended by Stephens (2005), Reisman and Forber (2005). However, advocates of a realist interpretation have not presented a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I also argued that natural selection and one sort of random drift can correspond to different aspects of such a population level probability distribution. Natural selection is the aspect of the distribution which is under the control of fitness differences, and drift is the aspect of the distribution which is under the control of population size. If the probabilities involved are causal, then changes in the probability distribution are changes in causal probabilities of future frequencies in the population. Exactly how we view causal role of selection and drift in producing future frequencies will depend on what sort of causal character the probabilities have. For example, if they are dispositional, then the relation of selection and drift to actual frequencies will be the relation of dispositions to their manifestations. We therefore have a framework in which natural selection and drift can count as causal factors, forces if you will. Moreover, it is now clear just what their causal character will turn

This is presented in a number of ways throughout the whole film. Brandon has always had some sort of attraction towards Rupert. The attraction to Rupert can also be seen during Rupert s conversation with Mrs. Atwater. During it Rupert explains that murder should be an art. Soon after, the camera begins to pan away from Rupert and Mrs. Atwater. You then see Brandon listening in on the conversation, he begins to slightly lick his lips and then joins in on the conversation with full excitement and passion.
