The Debate Of The Tech Debate
MP 1.1 Rough Draft
The tech debate seems to never have a victor because there seems to be unending points of view and
evidence to support both sides. However, what seems to be true of those who support technology and
its benefits is they each have something different to say about its positivity. Through Morozov we see
the critiques of Carr and how the best way to view technology criticism is to do it in the perspective of
the evolution of tech, which gives us a broader understanding. Through Crystal we see the benefits of
technology and how it is far from causing a downfall of the english language. Lastly, Genevieve Bell,
an anthropologist and current Vice President at Intel discusses how technology is a way to spread
stories and give us a background into other people s lives. Although technology has considerably
changed multiple aspects of our society, it is not a detrimental piece of humanity, but rather something
that has changed the way humans interact and still further our understanding of each other. By
showing the multiple positions of Morozov, Crystal and a new source by Bell we can see that tech s
impact should be viewed through the multiple lenses, one of historical context, one of varying
social/human context and one of its sharing of ideas, all of which show the benefits of tech.
One of the lenses that gives us the most perspective about the technology debate is a historical one.
When looking at the tech debate in a historical context, it seems to be true that

The Habitat Of Southern Toads
Abby Buren, Sheridan Dillon Robinson, Amber Hancock, Brett Shannon
Identifying the preferred habitat of southern toads
Introduction
St. Andrews university is a 500 acre campus consisting of many aquatic habitats, ideal for amphibians
such as frogs and toads. Amphibians are susceptible to changes in the environment and are indicators
of environmental diversity and success as well as identifiers of pollutants in the environment
(Marshall, 2013). We were interested in the prefered conditions for local toad and frog species on St.
Andrews campus, located in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Some aquatic environments include lakes,
ponds, creeks and a Carolina Bay. We hypothesised that toad and frog populations will be denser at the
Carolina Bay because the area provides acoustics, ideal for calling mates and also has a lot of surface
area that allows for solar heating that increases metabolism that would allow for quicker development
(metamorphosis) as well as having lots of areas to lay eggs, due to mating and offspring
developmental requirements. Frogs and toads are external fertilizers and the females lay their eggs in
the water and the males fertilize the eggs. Also, once the eggs hatch depending on the species they will
spend the first month or so of their lives in water as a tadpole until they metamorphosize into frogs or
toads. Due to this, they are more likely to be in aquatic areas during mating seasons (Partymiller, L.).
Out of the many toad and frog species in the area, we

The Importance Of Landfills
The population has grown immensely within the last hundred years. Along with population growth is
the increase of production and trash. In the later years, most people threw their trash wherever they
wanted until they realized that they were killing our environment. So we evolved to having legal
landfills. Unfortunately, landfills are changing surrounding areas and polluting our space. Landfills
has change the earth through landforms, contaminations, and economy. Citizens can change the way
that they collect and distribute trash in a few simple ways.
Landfills change the structure of earth by producing hills. An example of changing landscape through
landfills is Puente Hills. Puente Hills used to be the largest landfill not only in Los Angeles,
California, but also in the United States. Puente Hills grew over 500 feet in just a minimum of fifty
years (Anwar). Fortunately, that landfill officially stopped receiving any kind of waste products in
October of 2013 (Anwar). In order to make the shutdown official, the supervising engineer of the
facility ordered to put five feet of soil on top of the trash in the landfill without actually disposing any
of trash (Anwar). This changed Puente Hills into an even larger mountain than it was before. Most
activists agree with Author Edward Humes, that covering up the landfill with dirt means that the
citizens are not fully comprehending how much garbage they actually produced over the years, and
the damages that comes along with

The Dictatorial Prospero of Shakespeare s The Tempest Essay
The Dictatorial Prospero of The Tempest
Motivation often propels people to achieve high goals. Sometimes, however, motivation is too strong
a tool and can manifest into selfish desires. The exploitation of the weak invariably results from the
strong abusing their power, especially in a political setting. In William Shakespeare s The Tempest ,
Prospero is displayed as a tyrannical character who spawns a disastrous storm as part of a grand
scheme to regain his title of Duke of Milan. His subsequent treatment of each character in the play,
even his beloved daughter are purely based on his self centered motives. Prospero can be seen as an
overbearing racist, as well as a usurper to land that does not belong to him, but rather to ... Show more

To the more sympathetic view it can be seen that these questions are not from a controlling point of
view, but paranoia regarding how his daughter perceives the conversation. However, after his long
speech, he then uses his magic to control her into lulling her into a sleep when he is done talking to
her. Is this the action of a loving or a controlling father, a question which individually you can answer
differently.
Even Miranda s romantic affairs are not free from her father s meddling and controlling. Prospero
admits, It goes on [Ferdinand and Miranda s amorous glances], I see, as my soul prompts it (1.2.422
424). Even though he has created this love affair through his magic, he plays with both Ferdinand s
and Miranda s emotions by enslaving Ferdinand to menial work while the rest of his evil demise is
carried out. Driven only by selfish motives, Prospero is not concerned with his daughter s state of well
being but how she can be used as a pawn within his games. As the play progresses Prospero gives his
daughter away in marriage to Ferdinand without even consulting first with her. His selfish motives
become more apparent when he extensively warns Ferdinand against pre marital sex. Prospero view
upon Miranda s virginity is that it is a prize for him to give away. Without her virginity, she would not
be a valuable asset to him, which is why Prospero calls upon the help of the three goddesses

Free Market System in Belize
According to the Investopedia, a free market system is a market economy based on supply and
demand with little or no government control. It is a completely free market in which buyers and sellers
are allowed to transact freely based on a mutual agreement on price without Government intervention
in the form of taxes, subsidies or regulation . Therefore, the free market system is good for Belize.
Belize positively benefits from this system because it ensures competitive markets, the consumers are
part of the decision making process, and the supply and demand create competition. The free ... Show

Supply and demand create competition, which helps ensure that the best goods or services are
provided to consumers at a lower price. This will lead the businesses to having better quality and
service and by having this the business itself becomes an overall better business. This benefits the
society because they are receiving better goods and services and at a lower price. An example would
be the fruits and vegetables sold at the market. Different stalls at the market may have different prices,
so the consumer may have the option to buy the one with the lowest price or the one with the best
quality. If the good is bought based on the lowest price then the other stalls will need to lower their
price as well because if they don t then they might not sell their goods. In an article by Chris Seabury,
he states that in the United States those who want the removal of government intervention say the free
market would force the businesses to protect the consumer. This in turn would provide the customers
with quality goods and services at low price. Also he stated that there are several disadvantages to
having government intervention. Government intervention can create a huge government bureaucracy,
it can create huge monopolies, and it can compress innovation by over regulating. Firstly, government
regulation creates a huge government bureaucracy that stifles growth. In USA many labor and
environmental regulations

Themes Of Catch 22
Catch 22 s Recurrent Themes as Real World Issues
Heller provides a satirical depiction of military bureaucracy and authoritarianism through the many
antics of a B 25 bombardier, Yossarian. When Catch 22 was first released, its reviews were polarizing.
Some critics praised its raunchy humor and depiction of war, in all of its gruesome detail. Others
loathed its seemingly nonsensical plot structure and repetitiveness. Heller, born in 1923, was part of
the G.I. Generation and served during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier. He flew
sixty missions, but one drastically affected Heller. In a flight to Avignon, after dropping his bombs, his
pilot went into a large climb but nearly stalled the plane s engines. In order to stop ... Show more

He would plead insanity, but he cannot due to the Catch 22 principle that requires him to file a report
of insanity; however, this would prove he is actually sane because he fears for his own life. Yossarian
witnesses the death or disappearance of most of his close friends before the end of the book, leaving
him with nothing to lose. In a final act of defiance, Yossarian proclaims that he is not flying any more
missions. The officers take him into custody and give him an offer: go home to the United States and
spread the good word about the war effort, or be court martialed. He takes the first offer, but then goes
AWOL in a B 25 on a route to Switzerland (Heller). The Catch 22 principle and Yossarian s defiant
acts create a picture of the effects of authoritarianism, greed, as well as military bureaucracy as seen
through the eyes of Heller during the 1950s and 1960s.
The Catch 22 principle functions as a literary device repeatedly throughout the book as a
representation of authority s theft of personal freedom. The principle is repeatedly used as a
justification for obscene acts and statements in the book. For example, at one point Military Police
officers raid a brothel frequented by the soldiers and officers. They ransack the building and destroy
everything that is breakable. When Yossarian arrives to the brothel, an old woman is worried sick
about all of the prostitutes and says Catch 22 says they have a right to do

Examples Of Skepticism In The Truman Show
The Truman Show introduces us to a man named Truman who is living a fake life, a life in which
everything around him has been scripted out by a director of a television show. He was adopted at
birth and raised inside a television studio that was made to resemble the real world. However, Truman
is unaware that he has been the star of a television show since birth and thanks to free will, he
continues to live life as a normal person. Meanwhile, the director, Christof attempts to control every
aspect of Truman s life as if to lead him to take certain actions and to think a certain way.
Like so many other philosophical issues, the problem of skepticism can be traced back as far as the
ancient Greeks. Nevertheless, it was Descartes who placed this ... Show more content on

Given the logical possibility that such a creature exists, how can we be certain that our beliefs about
the world are not radically mistaken? How, Descartes asked, can we be certain that we are all not
utterly deceived? The Truman Show presents a similar skeptical problem, but in the most convincing
of ways. Christof is clearly the evil genius that Descartes described, but whereas Descartes fatal
demon is a creature of pure fantasy, the character of Christof and the conspiracy that he orchestrates
seem dangerously real. In Descartes Second Meditation he says, I suppose, then, that all the things that
I see are false, I persuade myself that nothing has ever existed of all that my fallacious memory
represents to me . In the Truman show, Truman finds himself believing that the world around him is
the real world, however he is being deceived. Would Truman have been better off believing Descartes
words? Descartes attempts to question how he is supposed to understand the world around him as real.
Through thinking and questioning, Descartes knows himself, and his mind to be real. However, he still
has an uncertainty about the world around him. Descartes concludes the Second Meditations by posing
that, because it is

Keynes Theory Of Business Cycles Essay
Keynes Theory of Business Cycles
Introduction
A business cycle refers to a phenomenon of alternating periods of expansion and contraction in
economic activity. In many cases such as have been witnessed in free market nations including the
USA and Great Britain, economic growth is characterized by long run upward GNP growth, followed
by large periodic short run fluctuations in economic activity. The economic period associated with
high income, output and unemployment, is also known as upswing expansion or prosperity. The
economic period associated with low income, output and unemployment is also referred to as
downswing, contraction, recession or depression. These economic fluctuations are called trade cycles
because they tend to occur in a recurrent manner (Knoop, 2009, p.39). Although various theories
explain this phenomenon, this essay analyzes Keynes theory of trade cycles and explains how banking
or finance comes into perspective.
Phases of the Business Cycle Figure 27.0: Phases of the Business Cycle
Source: (Pilkington, 2014).
As can be seen from figure 27.0 above, business cycles occur in four distinct phases including:
Expansion, downturn, recession, and recovery. He first phase is the expansion phase which may also
referred to as boom, upswing or prosperity. The second phase is the Peak also known as the upper
turning point. The third phase is the contraction which may also be referred to as downswing,
recession, or depression. The fourth phase is the trough

C. S. Lewis The Chronicles Of Narnia
You may know C.S. Lewis for writing the Chronicles of Narnia, but he was known for a variety of
more things. He was known for writing novels, essays, critical commentary, autobiographies, poems,
short stories, and he was also a diarist ( World 2075). He would write about what he was going
through of something based on what he believed. C.S. Lewis was a great author because he wrote
from the heart and about things that impacted him the most. C.S. Lewis had a challenging childhood,
but I believe that helped shape him as an author and a person. He was born on November twenty
ninth, eighteen ninety eight in Belfast, Ireland (MacNee 252). His Father was a solicitor and his
mother was a daughter of a clergyman (MacNee 252). Lewis s mother was diagnosed with cancer
when he was only nine years old (MacNee 252). After his mother s death, his father distanced away

Lewis wrote quite a few books and letters, but you probably know him best for writing the Chronicles
of Narnia. Lewis said that he believed that his imaginative self inspired the series (MacNee 255).
Many people told Lewis not to write the Narnia series because it would ruin his reputation, but he
wrote the children s book anyway (Imbornoni 2). Throughout the series there are many biblical
references which makes sense because Lewis believed in the bible. One of the references he put in
there was Aslan (a lion) which represented God. Another success of C.S. Lewis was The Screwtape
Letters. They were his first Christian success (MacNee 255). In an interview in 1963 he said that the
Screwtape letters was the only one of all his books that he didn t enjoy writing (Mancini 2). He said he
found the book dry and gritty going (Mancini 2). This series is about notes from a senior devil to a
junior tempter (MacNee 255). Lewis even considered making a companion novel from the perspective
of an angel but his standards were high so he didn t pursue it (Mancini

An Analysis of Common Sense Essay
As the year 1776 began in the American colonies, tension with King George III s England was at
perhaps an all time high. Americans were frustrated with the actions of their rulers overseas. Taxes and
trade restrictions had been placed on them, and British and mercenary soldiers occupied their towns
and cities. There had even been fighting at Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill. As America grew,
England s hold on it tightened, and a few voices began speaking of independence. The loudest and
most convincing of these belonged to Thomas Paine, born in England and living in Philadelphia. His
pamphlet, Common Sense, expressed the argument for American independence in a way no one had
before and had a great influence on the Declaration of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It claims all monarchs are despots, cut off from their people and craving for absolute power. Male and
female are the distinctions of nature, Paine wrote, good and bad the distinctions of heaven; but how a
race of men came into the world so exalted above the rest . . . is worth enquiring into (Paine 9).
Government is a necessary evil, a badge of lost innocence, that tends to get in the way of civilized
society. Modern civilizations should organize themselves into local, self governing societies with only
representational government, suggested Paine, not an all powerful monarch. Of more worth is one
honest man to society, and in the sight of God, than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived (Paine 17).
Paine went on to speak in more conventional terms about the specific nature of the conflict. He had
anticipated that readers would be startled by his conclusions, and defended against possible objections.
Uncertainty in the British Empire, some caused by disturbances in America, was bad for commerce.
England would continue to drag Americans into European wars that were not their affair, said Paine,
and protect them only when beneficial to themselves. Americans would not require their protection;
they already had the means to defend their land. Distance and poor communication across the Atlantic
made the centers of government remote from the colonists. Common Sense stressed the need for and
the power of unity among the American

10 renovations for skyrocketing your property s valuation, and how to get them done properly
Before you get too excited about Zillow s estimate of your home, remember that Zillow have never
been inside your home. In fact, their own website states that it is computed using a proprietary formula
and notably, It is not an appraisal . Therefore, the true value of your home could be very different to
what is displayed on Zillow. The great thing is, you can skyrocket the value of your property by
carrying out some renovations.

On the other hand, a well kept garden makes a home look more inviting, could increase the value and
also makes it significantly easier to sell. Fortunately, you can improve the look of your garden using
some books and Youtube videos. Besides helping to skyrocket your property s value, gardening can be
incredibly therapeutic.
5) Build a spare room
Nothing beats space in a home. However, depending on the way your house is built, it can be difficult
to extend into the loft or build into the ground (very expensive). Notably, you can build a spare room
which is attached to your home. This could be used as an extra bedroom, game room etc.
6) Tone down on the decorations
If you are looking to renovate in order to sell your home, it is important that a potential buyer can see
themselves living in your home. Therefore, the decorations which you think make your home stand
out could put people of. Therefore, some simple renovations would be to take down any bright
wallpaper, wall decals etc.
7) Kitchen
The kitchen is one of the most important parts of the home. Therefore, a kitchen renovation can shoot
up the value of your property and make it easier to sell in the future. In order to save money on a
kitchen renovation, buy the parts yourself and then negotiate with an experienced kitchen renovator to
fix it for you.

Election System of Bangladesh
Election System: A Contrast Between Bangladesh And USA. Nafis Ujrat MIDN USN
Election system is one of the most important features of a country s political system. It symbolizes
some inner concept of a political system of a nation. I have chosen election system of US government
to discuss and compare with that of Bangladesh. Both of these countries have some unique style of
election procedure. That has made it really interesting for the learner of both systems to contrast and

When Bangladesh was united with present Pakistan, former president of Pakistan Ayub Khan

presidential election system of USA. But mass people of Bangladesh did not accept that system as the
electors were corrupted. They did not reflect the wish of popular vote. So this system did not worked

people s choice of candidates. They also thought people from different states may not agree to on a

system that will balance the situation. In Bangladesh politics and election are always accompanied by

Why People Get Religious Tattoos
Why do people get religious tattoos?
People hold different motives as they decide to get a tattoo. And I humbly think that the issue of
religious people marking their body is too personal to be confined as right or wrong. Usually the path
they choose to follow with all the principles and beliefs it disseminates regarding the tattoos is what is
determinant, but sometimes people decide to go against the will of the Believed and leave the last
word to themselves. Nevertheless, getting a tattoo is a decision that people make pondering over many
arguments.
First of all, the idea of getting a tattoo was always counterintuitive from religious perspectives as
People with paint on their body were mostly considered disreputable and evil. But those times are far
behind and today every religion stands on its own while adjudicating on a matter of tattoos. For
instance, religious tattoos are mostly associated with Christianity and it is a common thing for its
followers to get an image of a cross or Jesus inked on their body, mainly with purpose to glorify the
God and express their strong beliefs through something permanent. Other religious teachings where
tattoos are not condemned are Buddhism and Hinduism, while Islam rigidly forbids any form of

Sql Injection And Prevention Techniques
SQL INJECTION AND PREVENTION TECHNIQUES
Abstract
SQL Injection is one of the main database attack mechanisms used by hackers to loot organization s
data from databases. Hacker target the application layer program and takes advantage of the improper
coding methods to inject SQL command into a web form and then gain access to the database. SQL
injection may adversely affect the integrity of the database and may reveal sensitive data of the
organization. The intensity of the SQL injection attack vary depend on the capabilities of the backend
database in use. With the help of SQL injection hacker can change existing queries, attach additional
queries, read in or write to file or execute operating system command from the database. To protect
organization data from SQL injection we need to apply security measures in the application layer and
in the database layer. The purpose of this study is to analyze the database functionalities/security
holes, mainly Oracle and MySQL, and propose the preventive measures database developers need to
consider in the database layer while working with these databases to secure data from SQL injection.

Neurotransmitters And Its Effect On The Brain
Neurotransmitters communicate by transmitting signals from a neuron to a target cell through a
synapse. Before this communication can happen, the neurotransmitter must be synthesized and stored
in vesicles so that when an action potential arrives, the cell is ready to fuss with the membrane of the
neuron. When the synaptic vesicle is ready, the final triggering of vesicle fusion with the presynaptic
terminal membrane occurs rapidly in response to the action potential invasion of the terminal. This
step is highly dependent on calcium ions, which enter the terminal through voltage gated calcium
channels (Steinberg Walton, 1978; Westenbrock, 1981). This action potential causing the opening of
calcium channels for calcium ions to stream into the presynaptic cleft. The presence of calcium ions
cause the synaptic vesicle to open and release neurotransmitters which fuses into the cleft. Miledi
(1967) suggested that the idea that calcium entry into the terminal is a key step in the neurotransmitter
release process formed the basis of what is known as the calcium hypothesis. Next, when an action
potential does arrive at the terminal, the neurotransmitter is released from the terminal into the
synaptic cleft. When the neurotransmitter arrives into the synaptic cleft, it must be recognized by its
own receptors in the postsynaptic cell to create the binding action, causing ion channels to open, thus
changing membrane potential and initiating another action potential. After the

Essay On Over Criminalization
So what exactly is over criminalization? In technical terms it is the act of imposing unbalanced
penalties with no relation to the gravity of the offense committed or the culpability of the wrong doer.
In other words, the United states is excessively using and misusing the statutes of criminal law. This is
to include unnecessary criminal statutes such as those in the business realm. For example, transporting
orchids without proper paper work or failure to ship lobster tail in plastic bags. The most redundant
one is the failure to return a library book. Laws in today s society are here to protect us as a whole as
well as maintain order in this country. However, we have an innumerable amount of laws, mostly old
laws, that serve no purpose in this new world we live in. These laws are ones most of us have never

way the novel s portrayed or at least my reading of it is it s gonna stay the same because they re

anything is going to change, especially in that situation. You have a small town that s really

Single Life Altering Event Analysis
Question #1a The single life altering event that has happened to me was entering a long term
relationship. Many often wonder how their life has changed when they add another person to it, but
for myself, it impacted my life in a very big way. I used to rarely do activities with friends, as I would
mostly do activities by myself. I was always okay with being alone, however, when I met my
boyfriend everything changed. We started spending every waking minute with each other and doing
activities that we equally liked doing. It became more of a partnership than anything. This changed my
leisure pattern because now I rely on my partner and what he is doing, as well as plan any and all my
activities with him. We take into account each of our similarities

Commodity Fetishism and Its Impact on Contemporary Society...
What is commodity fetishism as defined by cultural and media theorists? Identify and analyse three
images that demonstrate the way commodity fetishism is impacting on contemporary society and
culture.
Commodities are defined as things that are bought and sold in a social system of exchange. (Sturken
Cartwright, 2009, p. 279 ) The concept of commodity culture is intricately allied with the idea that we
construct our identities through the consumer products that inhabit our lives (Sturken Cartwright 2009,
p. 279) The idea of a commodity culture has been described by media theorist Stuart Ewen as a
commodity self. He believes that we are constructed through our relationship with and use of
commodities in our everyday lives. Karl Marx ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only does it allow the development of a broader social context of devaluing labour, making it hard
for workers to take pride in their work but it also allows consumers to remain ignorant of working
conditions. (Sturken Cartwright 2009, p. 280) This image is an example of commodity fetishism
because it is essentially a process of mystification that not only empties commodities of the meaning
of their production but also fills them with new, appealing meaning. (Sturken Cartwright 2009, p. 279)
The process of making something seem more appealing is used to promote and sell the product.
Consumers purchase Calvin Klein jeans because they are a designer label and are promoted as being
fashionable and worn by celebrities. Consumers are not purchasing the Calvin Klein jeans because
they were mass produced in a different country or because of the people who produced them. This
example relates back to the Frankfurt school theory that commodities are hollowed out objects that
propagated a loss of identity and erode our sense of history. (Kaplan 2006, p. 105)
Image two is the front cover of a book. It shows chocolate and has been chosen as an example of
commodity fetishism. Chocolate is associated with desire and is a form of pleasure in people s lives.
Chocolate is also a popular gift to give loved ones for birthdays and special occasions. Chocolate is a

Economic Systems, Capitalism And Socialism
Economic Systems
People can use economic systems to build empires and destroy civilizations. The society s featured in
the books 1984 by George Orwell and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury did just that. Both took
advantage of some form of an economic system to achieve their respective goals. Whether it be the
command economy of Oceania, or the overly consumerist economy of the dystopian United States,
they both employed economics to their benefit. Economics is the science of scarcity. Scarcity is when
you have a population with unlimited wants coupled with limited resources. Economics deals with the
production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. An economic system is how a
society deals with these factors. The three main questions that an economic system is supposed to
answer are what will we produce? how will we produce it? who gets it? Answer these questions and
you have an economic system (Hettige). This report will cover the two main economic systems,
capitalism and socialism.
Capitalism
Capitalism promotes private ownership of the means of production, or resources, to produce goods
and services for profit. In other terms, private entities purchase resources; be it labor, natural
resources, or factories to create goods to sell for profit. Capitalism promotes that people build up their
own wealth and that all, or most, available resources be privately owned. Production in capitalism is
controlled by supply and demand and individuals purchase products on

Pompeii as an archeological site is a source of information on so many aspects of the economic,
religious, social and political life of the ancient world. Many well preserved house shrines give a hint
on the importance of the vitality of religion in the family. Pompeii had a busy port that exported
products throughout the Mediterranean region; this was a haven for the tradesmen and merchants
living near the city gates. Unfortunately, these excavations are endangered by tourist traffic at the site,
changes in weather patterns and destructive vegetation. In the 1950s, many structures were fitted with
concrete roofs but have deteriorated over the years making upkeep difficult. Pompeii faces numerous
problems including, mismanagement, degradation, and vandalism. In July 2008, the Italian

Kaiser fled the country in November 1918 (Llewellyn, J. Weimar Republic Timeline ) and the SDP
(Social Democratic Party) leader Philipp Scheidemann made Germany into the Weimar Republic (

based on the Woodrow Wilson s original 14 points that were made in january 8 1918( fourteen points

The Treaty got rid of 13% of their land 10% of their population with most of their land being
economically beneficial (Todd, Allan). The reason why some historians believe that the Treaty of
Versaille was the root cause of economic failure is because of the war guilt clause, Article 231.
ARTICLE 231 The Allied and Associated Governments affirm and Germany accepts the responsibility
of Germany and her allies for causing all the loss and damage to which the Allied and Associated
Governments and their nationals have been subjected as a consequence of the war imposed upon them
by the aggression of Germany and her allies. (Treaty of Peace). With their land loss and population
decrease Germany was only able to pay 2.5% of their annual GDP for reparations(HANTKE, MAX).
They were expected to pay 230 million gold marks which they could only offer 30 million gold marks
(20th century international relations). With most of their population missing and with less land they
can produce less than they could before the war while they have to make more than before because of
the war guilt clause of Article 231. That s why the the treaty is significant to the economic collapse of
Germany and why some historians would believe that this was the root cause

Essay The Death of Socrates
The Death of Socrates Viewing the painting The Death of Socrates by Jacques Louis David, one can
perceive many different subject matters, both literally and metaphorically. The obvious is seen within
the setting of the painting. The clear illustration of where the event is happening provides the onlooker
with a glimpse into a different time and era. Conversely, the artist has taken the liberty to hide deep
meaning inside the work of art through less apparent means. Symbolism through art work has endured
from early works to contemporized ones, here is no different. Taking the two aforementioned into
consideration gives us a glimpse into both the symbolic and factual significance of the occasion. What

Given the body of a Greek god, Socrates seems far from frail and is bursting with strength and power.
Furthermore, to give Socrates an air of wisdom, he was given a beard. The beard which is
representative of knowledge and intelligence flows freely upon the great teacher as his time of
execution approaches. While appearing to have the divinity of a god, Socrates is still painted with
physical emotion. The duality of being godly and human at the same time may have been a recurring
theme at the time this was painted. Not only looking at the mere representation of the figure who is
Socrates, but by examining how he is situated among others in the painting also uncovers meaning in
of itself. Studying the way that Socrates body is situated you can see that the artist is trying to make a
statement of nobility in self sacrifice. The finger of Socrates is pointed upward and is in the highest
position in the chamber. Much like a mountain commands the landscape, so does Socrates finger in a
room full of disarray and uncertainty. This can also tells us that although ready to die and in his final
hour, his teachings and beliefs will continue to live on. Although Socrates is on his deathbed he still
continues to teach and philosophize. Something else that should be noted is the posture of Socrates.
His back is completely erect with no support. Everyone else in the picture

What Is Job Redesign
Topic: ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ACTION RESEARCH Name: Institutional
Affiliation: Question 1 Introduction Job redesign involves the process of restructuring job activities
then reallocating them among the staff for improving productivity as well as motivation. The process
requires revision of the post content regarding responsibilities and tasks. It involves three activities
which are job enrichment, job enlargement, and job rotation. Job enrichment means an employee has
more tasks to do as part of the job. The employer gives more responsibilities and additional duties to
the employees while matching their skills, knowledge and abilities. Job enlargement is a redesign job
strategy that increases only the tasks of a particular job. It will, in turn, reduce the monotony of the
employees thus enabling them to be more productive thus increasing their output at work. Job rotation
designs workers to an alternative position on a temporary basis as that they can gain additional skills
and have a broader perspective of how the organization works.(Hartzell,2015) Which of the five core
job dimensions discussed on page 73 of Sarma(2009) or page 146 of Armstrong(2014) do you think
should be revised the most during redesign job intervention? According to Armstrong (2014), there are
some five core dimensions as outlined by Hackman and Oldman(1976) which include; skills variety,
task significance, autonomy, identity and significance feedback. He argues that these

Using A Handheld Portable Gas Detector Weighting Up
One of the main challenges in this effort is how to autonomously operate multiple sensors for oxygen
monitoring and to replace the existing technology which is based on a handheld portable gas detector
weighting up to 5lbs and placed in the belt or waistband of the worker. Our innovative design is based
on converting wasted mechanical energy from the movement of the worker to useful amount of energy
by using the piezoelectric transduction mechanism. Depending on the movement of the worker and the
performed tasks, two possible piezoelectric energy harvesting systems can be designed. The first one
will be composed of a flexible piezoelectric layer attached on the top of an aluminum sheet and
directly attached to the skin of the worker as a band, as shown in Fig. 2(a). As for the second design of
the energy harvester shown in Fig. 2(b), it will be based on the available excitation motion of the
worker. This harvester will be efficient when the resonance phenomenon takes place. This harvester
will be integrated in the clothes of the worker.
As for the second design, low frequency excitations are present due to the worker s motion including
walking and contraction and expansion of his muscles. These low excitation motion can provide
viable amounts of wasted mechanical energy that can be converted to power many critical devices
including sensors for oxygen monitoring, pacemakers, defibrillators, cell phones, and wireless sensors
and actuators. A significant impediment in the

Symbolism In St. John s Aquin By Nick Joaquin
Tadtarin, a festival for women fertility is paradoxical when celebrated on the Feast Day of John the
Baptist [and the preceding two days] which is an event that symbolizes manhood. The said symbol
was described in the line a fine, blonde, heroic St. John: very male, very arrogant: the Lord of Summer
indeed; the Lord of Light and Heat erect and godly virile above the prone and female earth . This was
opposed by the fact that at the end of the day of the feast, where the women will worship a more

Analysis Of Katharine Kolcaba s Comfort Theory
Comfort theory was created in the 1990 s by Katharine Kolcaba who was performing research on the
analysis of comfort across many disciplines (Petiprin, 2016). From her research, she created a theory
of nursing based upon three major forms of comfort that humans need to achieve wellness (Petiprin,
2016). They include: relief, ease and transcendence. Relief is the feeling obtained by patients as needs
are being met (Petiprin, 2016). Ease is what patients feel when they are relaxed and have the sense of
comfort that their needs have been met and they no longer need to feel anxious (Petiprin, 2016).
Transcendence is the ability for patients to use their sense of comfort to rise above any struggles and
conflicts they may be facing (Petiprin, 2016). Overall, Kolcaba defines her theory and comfort in
general as the immediate state of being strengthened through having the human needs for relief, ease,
and transcendence addressed in four contexts of experience (physical, psychospiritual, sociocultural,
and environmental) (Kolcaba DiMarco, 2005). By using this theory in a hospital environment,
Kolcaba hoped that comfort levels would be increased for all patients, staff and visitors and that
patient health would improve as a result of this theory implementation (Boudiab Kolcaba, 2015). In a
case study of pediatric patients, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The checklist uses various types of body language and reactions the child gives towards caregivers to
assess the comfort level of the child (Kolcaba DiMarco, 2005). This is particularly important for use
in children who are unable to express their needs and may not understand what is happening to their
body. With standardization, this checklist could become an important tool for pediatric nurses to use to
assess how their patients are responding to care and if needs are being met

  • 2. The Debate Of The Tech Debate MP 1.1 Rough Draft The tech debate seems to never have a victor because there seems to be unending points of view and evidence to support both sides. However, what seems to be true of those who support technology and its benefits is they each have something different to say about its positivity. Through Morozov we see the critiques of Carr and how the best way to view technology criticism is to do it in the perspective of the evolution of tech, which gives us a broader understanding. Through Crystal we see the benefits of technology and how it is far from causing a downfall of the english language. Lastly, Genevieve Bell, an anthropologist and current Vice President at Intel discusses how technology is a way to spread stories and give us a background into other people s lives. Although technology has considerably changed multiple aspects of our society, it is not a detrimental piece of humanity, but rather something that has changed the way humans interact and still further our understanding of each other. By showing the multiple positions of Morozov, Crystal and a new source by Bell we can see that tech s impact should be viewed through the multiple lenses, one of historical context, one of varying social/human context and one of its sharing of ideas, all of which show the benefits of tech. One of the lenses that gives us the most perspective about the technology debate is a historical one. When looking at the tech debate in a historical context, it seems to be true that ... • 3. The Habitat Of Southern Toads Abby Buren, Sheridan Dillon Robinson, Amber Hancock, Brett Shannon Identifying the preferred habitat of southern toads Introduction St. Andrews university is a 500 acre campus consisting of many aquatic habitats, ideal for amphibians such as frogs and toads. Amphibians are susceptible to changes in the environment and are indicators of environmental diversity and success as well as identifiers of pollutants in the environment (Marshall, 2013). We were interested in the prefered conditions for local toad and frog species on St. Andrews campus, located in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Some aquatic environments include lakes, ponds, creeks and a Carolina Bay. We hypothesised that toad and frog populations will be denser at the Carolina Bay because the area provides acoustics, ideal for calling mates and also has a lot of surface area that allows for solar heating that increases metabolism that would allow for quicker development (metamorphosis) as well as having lots of areas to lay eggs, due to mating and offspring developmental requirements. Frogs and toads are external fertilizers and the females lay their eggs in the water and the males fertilize the eggs. Also, once the eggs hatch depending on the species they will spend the first month or so of their lives in water as a tadpole until they metamorphosize into frogs or toads. Due to this, they are more likely to be in aquatic areas during mating seasons (Partymiller, L.). Out of the many toad and frog species in the area, we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Landfills The population has grown immensely within the last hundred years. Along with population growth is the increase of production and trash. In the later years, most people threw their trash wherever they wanted until they realized that they were killing our environment. So we evolved to having legal landfills. Unfortunately, landfills are changing surrounding areas and polluting our space. Landfills has change the earth through landforms, contaminations, and economy. Citizens can change the way that they collect and distribute trash in a few simple ways. Landfills change the structure of earth by producing hills. An example of changing landscape through landfills is Puente Hills. Puente Hills used to be the largest landfill not only in Los Angeles, California, but also in the United States. Puente Hills grew over 500 feet in just a minimum of fifty years (Anwar). Fortunately, that landfill officially stopped receiving any kind of waste products in October of 2013 (Anwar). In order to make the shutdown official, the supervising engineer of the facility ordered to put five feet of soil on top of the trash in the landfill without actually disposing any of trash (Anwar). This changed Puente Hills into an even larger mountain than it was before. Most activists agree with Author Edward Humes, that covering up the landfill with dirt means that the citizens are not fully comprehending how much garbage they actually produced over the years, and the damages that comes along with ... • 5. The Dictatorial Prospero of Shakespeare s The Tempest Essay The Dictatorial Prospero of The Tempest Motivation often propels people to achieve high goals. Sometimes, however, motivation is too strong a tool and can manifest into selfish desires. The exploitation of the weak invariably results from the strong abusing their power, especially in a political setting. In William Shakespeare s The Tempest , Prospero is displayed as a tyrannical character who spawns a disastrous storm as part of a grand scheme to regain his title of Duke of Milan. His subsequent treatment of each character in the play, even his beloved daughter are purely based on his self centered motives. Prospero can be seen as an overbearing racist, as well as a usurper to land that does not belong to him, but rather to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To the more sympathetic view it can be seen that these questions are not from a controlling point of view, but paranoia regarding how his daughter perceives the conversation. However, after his long speech, he then uses his magic to control her into lulling her into a sleep when he is done talking to her. Is this the action of a loving or a controlling father, a question which individually you can answer differently. Even Miranda s romantic affairs are not free from her father s meddling and controlling. Prospero admits, It goes on [Ferdinand and Miranda s amorous glances], I see, as my soul prompts it (1.2.422 424). Even though he has created this love affair through his magic, he plays with both Ferdinand s and Miranda s emotions by enslaving Ferdinand to menial work while the rest of his evil demise is carried out. Driven only by selfish motives, Prospero is not concerned with his daughter s state of well being but how she can be used as a pawn within his games. As the play progresses Prospero gives his daughter away in marriage to Ferdinand without even consulting first with her. His selfish motives become more apparent when he extensively warns Ferdinand against pre marital sex. Prospero view upon Miranda s virginity is that it is a prize for him to give away. Without her virginity, she would not be a valuable asset to him, which is why Prospero calls upon the help of the three goddesses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Free Market Essay Business Ethics Assignment 3 March 21, 2012 Free Market System in Belize According to the Investopedia, a free market system is a market economy based on supply and demand with little or no government control. It is a completely free market in which buyers and sellers are allowed to transact freely based on a mutual agreement on price without Government intervention in the form of taxes, subsidies or regulation . Therefore, the free market system is good for Belize. Belize positively benefits from this system because it ensures competitive markets, the consumers are part of the decision making process, and the supply and demand create competition. The free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Supply and demand create competition, which helps ensure that the best goods or services are provided to consumers at a lower price. This will lead the businesses to having better quality and service and by having this the business itself becomes an overall better business. This benefits the society because they are receiving better goods and services and at a lower price. An example would be the fruits and vegetables sold at the market. Different stalls at the market may have different prices, so the consumer may have the option to buy the one with the lowest price or the one with the best quality. If the good is bought based on the lowest price then the other stalls will need to lower their price as well because if they don t then they might not sell their goods. In an article by Chris Seabury, he states that in the United States those who want the removal of government intervention say the free market would force the businesses to protect the consumer. This in turn would provide the customers with quality goods and services at low price. Also he stated that there are several disadvantages to having government intervention. Government intervention can create a huge government bureaucracy, it can create huge monopolies, and it can compress innovation by over regulating. Firstly, government regulation creates a huge government bureaucracy that stifles growth. In USA many labor and environmental regulations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Themes Of Catch 22 Catch 22 s Recurrent Themes as Real World Issues Heller provides a satirical depiction of military bureaucracy and authoritarianism through the many antics of a B 25 bombardier, Yossarian. When Catch 22 was first released, its reviews were polarizing. Some critics praised its raunchy humor and depiction of war, in all of its gruesome detail. Others loathed its seemingly nonsensical plot structure and repetitiveness. Heller, born in 1923, was part of the G.I. Generation and served during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier. He flew sixty missions, but one drastically affected Heller. In a flight to Avignon, after dropping his bombs, his pilot went into a large climb but nearly stalled the plane s engines. He would plead insanity, but he cannot due to the Catch 22 principle that requires him to file a report of insanity; however, this would prove he is actually sane because he fears for his own life. Yossarian witnesses the death or disappearance of most of his close friends before the end of the book, leaving him with nothing to lose. In a final act of defiance, Yossarian proclaims that he is not flying any more missions. The officers take him into custody and give him an offer: go home to the United States and spread the good word about the war effort, or be court martialed. He takes the first offer, but then goes AWOL in a B 25 on a route to Switzerland (Heller). The Catch 22 principle and Yossarian s defiant acts create a picture of the effects of authoritarianism, greed, as well as military bureaucracy as seen through the eyes of Heller during the 1950s and 1960s. The Catch 22 principle functions as a literary device repeatedly throughout the book as a representation of authority s theft of personal freedom. The principle is repeatedly used as a justification for obscene acts and statements in the book. For example, at one point Military Police officers raid a brothel frequented by the soldiers and officers. They ransack the building and destroy everything that is breakable. When Yossarian arrives to the brothel, an old woman is worried sick about all of the prostitutes and says Catch 22 says they have a right to do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Examples Of Skepticism In The Truman Show The Truman Show introduces us to a man named Truman who is living a fake life, a life in which everything around him has been scripted out by a director of a television show. He was adopted at birth and raised inside a television studio that was made to resemble the real world. However, Truman is unaware that he has been the star of a television show since birth and thanks to free will, he continues to live life as a normal person. Meanwhile, the director, Christof attempts to control every aspect of Truman s life as if to lead him to take certain actions and to think a certain way. Like so many other philosophical issues, the problem of skepticism can be traced back as far as the ancient Greeks. Nevertheless, it was Descartes who placed this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Given the logical possibility that such a creature exists, how can we be certain that our beliefs about the world are not radically mistaken? How, Descartes asked, can we be certain that we are all not utterly deceived? The Truman Show presents a similar skeptical problem, but in the most convincing of ways. Christof is clearly the evil genius that Descartes described, but whereas Descartes fatal demon is a creature of pure fantasy, the character of Christof and the conspiracy that he orchestrates seem dangerously real. In Descartes Second Meditation he says, I suppose, then, that all the things that I see are false, I persuade myself that nothing has ever existed of all that my fallacious memory represents to me . In the Truman show, Truman finds himself believing that the world around him is the real world, however he is being deceived. Would Truman have been better off believing Descartes words? Descartes attempts to question how he is supposed to understand the world around him as real. Through thinking and questioning, Descartes knows himself, and his mind to be real. However, he still has an uncertainty about the world around him. Descartes concludes the Second Meditations by posing that, because it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Keynes Theory Of Business Cycles Essay Keynes Theory of Business Cycles Introduction A business cycle refers to a phenomenon of alternating periods of expansion and contraction in economic activity. In many cases such as have been witnessed in free market nations including the USA and Great Britain, economic growth is characterized by long run upward GNP growth, followed by large periodic short run fluctuations in economic activity. The economic period associated with high income, output and unemployment, is also known as upswing expansion or prosperity. The economic period associated with low income, output and unemployment is also referred to as downswing, contraction, recession or depression. These economic fluctuations are called trade cycles because they tend to occur in a recurrent manner (Knoop, 2009, p.39). Although various theories explain this phenomenon, this essay analyzes Keynes theory of trade cycles and explains how banking or finance comes into perspective. Phases of the Business Cycle Figure 27.0: Phases of the Business Cycle Source: (Pilkington, 2014). As can be seen from figure 27.0 above, business cycles occur in four distinct phases including: Expansion, downturn, recession, and recovery. He first phase is the expansion phase which may also referred to as boom, upswing or prosperity. The second phase is the Peak also known as the upper turning point. He was known for writing novels, essays, critical commentary, autobiographies, poems, short stories, and he was also a diarist ( World 2075). He would write about what he was going through of something based on what he believed. C.S. Lewis was a great author because he wrote from the heart and about things that impacted him the most. C.S. Lewis had a challenging childhood, but I believe that helped shape him as an author and a person. He was born on November twenty ninth, eighteen ninety eight in Belfast, Ireland (MacNee 252). His Father was a solicitor and his mother was a daughter of a clergyman (MacNee 252). Lewis s mother was diagnosed with cancer when he was only nine years old (MacNee 252). Throughout the series there are many biblical references which makes sense because Lewis believed in the bible. One of the references he put in there was Aslan (a lion) which represented God. Another success of C.S. Lewis was The Screwtape Letters. They were his first Christian success (MacNee 255). In an interview in 1963 he said that the Screwtape letters was the only one of all his books that he didn t enjoy writing (Mancini 2). He said he found the book dry and gritty going (Mancini 2). • 11. An Analysis of Common Sense Essay As the year 1776 began in the American colonies, tension with King George III s England was at perhaps an all time high. Americans were frustrated with the actions of their rulers overseas. Taxes and trade restrictions had been placed on them, and British and mercenary soldiers occupied their towns and cities. There had even been fighting at Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill. As America grew, England s hold on it tightened, and a few voices began speaking of independence. The loudest and most convincing of these belonged to Thomas Paine, born in England and living in Philadelphia. His pamphlet, Common Sense, expressed the argument for American independence in a way no one had before and had a great influence on the Declaration of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It claims all monarchs are despots, cut off from their people and craving for absolute power. Male and female are the distinctions of nature, Paine wrote, good and bad the distinctions of heaven; but how a race of men came into the world so exalted above the rest . . . is worth enquiring into (Paine 9). Government is a necessary evil, a badge of lost innocence, that tends to get in the way of civilized society. Modern civilizations should organize themselves into local, self governing societies with only representational government, suggested Paine, not an all powerful monarch. Of more worth is one honest man to society, and in the sight of God, than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived (Paine 17). Paine went on to speak in more conventional terms about the specific nature of the conflict. And I humbly think that the issue of religious people marking their body is too personal to be confined as right or wrong. Usually the path they choose to follow with all the principles and beliefs it disseminates regarding the tattoos is what is determinant, but sometimes people decide to go against the will of the Believed and leave the last word to themselves. Nevertheless, getting a tattoo is a decision that people make pondering over many arguments. First of all, the idea of getting a tattoo was always counterintuitive from religious perspectives as People with paint on their body were mostly considered disreputable and evil. But those times are far behind and today every religion stands on its own while adjudicating on a matter of tattoos. For instance, religious tattoos are mostly associated with Christianity and it is a common thing for its followers to get an image of a cross or Jesus inked on their body, mainly with purpose to glorify the God and express their strong beliefs through something permanent. • 18. Neurotransmitters And Its Effect On The Brain Neurotransmitters communicate by transmitting signals from a neuron to a target cell through a synapse. Before this communication can happen, the neurotransmitter must be synthesized and stored in vesicles so that when an action potential arrives, the cell is ready to fuss with the membrane of the neuron. When the synaptic vesicle is ready, the final triggering of vesicle fusion with the presynaptic terminal membrane occurs rapidly in response to the action potential invasion of the terminal. This step is highly dependent on calcium ions, which enter the terminal through voltage gated calcium channels (Steinberg Walton, 1978; Westenbrock, 1981). This action potential causing the opening of calcium channels for calcium ions to stream into the presynaptic cleft. The presence of calcium ions cause the synaptic vesicle to open and release neurotransmitters which fuses into the cleft. Miledi (1967) suggested that the idea that calcium entry into the terminal is a key step in the neurotransmitter release process formed the basis of what is known as the calcium hypothesis. Next, when an action potential does arrive at the terminal, the neurotransmitter is released from the terminal into the synaptic cleft. When the neurotransmitter arrives into the synaptic cleft, it must be recognized by its own receptors in the postsynaptic cell to create the binding action, causing ion channels to open, thus changing membrane potential and initiating another action potential. Commodities are defined as things that are bought and sold in a social system of exchange. (Sturken Cartwright, 2009, p. 279 ) The concept of commodity culture is intricately allied with the idea that we construct our identities through the consumer products that inhabit our lives (Sturken Cartwright 2009, p. 279) The idea of a commodity culture has been described by media theorist Stuart Ewen as a commodity self. (Sturken Cartwright 2009, p. 279) The process of making something seem more appealing is used to promote and sell the product. Consumers purchase Calvin Klein jeans because they are a designer label and are promoted as being fashionable and worn by celebrities. Consumers are not purchasing the Calvin Klein jeans because they were mass produced in a different country or because of the people who produced them. The society s featured in the books 1984 by George Orwell and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury did just that. Both took advantage of some form of an economic system to achieve their respective goals. Whether it be the command economy of Oceania, or the overly consumerist economy of the dystopian United States, they both employed economics to their benefit. Economics is the science of scarcity. Scarcity is when you have a population with unlimited wants coupled with limited resources. Economics deals with the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. An economic system is how a society deals with these factors. The three main questions that an economic system is supposed to answer are what will we produce? how will we produce it? who gets it? Answer these questions and you have an economic system (Hettige). This report will cover the two main economic systems, capitalism and socialism. Capitalism Capitalism promotes private ownership of the means of production, or resources, to produce goods and services for profit. • 37. Using A Handheld Portable Gas Detector Weighting Up One of the main challenges in this effort is how to autonomously operate multiple sensors for oxygen monitoring and to replace the existing technology which is based on a handheld portable gas detector weighting up to 5lbs and placed in the belt or waistband of the worker. Our innovative design is based on converting wasted mechanical energy from the movement of the worker to useful amount of energy by using the piezoelectric transduction mechanism. Depending on the movement of the worker and the performed tasks, two possible piezoelectric energy harvesting systems can be designed. The first one will be composed of a flexible piezoelectric layer attached on the top of an aluminum sheet and directly attached to the skin of the worker as a band, as shown in Fig. 2(a). As for the second design of the energy harvester shown in Fig. 2(b), it will be based on the available excitation motion of the worker. This harvester will be efficient when the resonance phenomenon takes place. This harvester will be integrated in the clothes of the worker. As for the second design, low frequency excitations are present due to the worker s motion including walking and contraction and expansion of his muscles. These low excitation motion can provide viable amounts of wasted mechanical energy that can be converted to power many critical devices including sensors for oxygen monitoring, pacemakers, defibrillators, cell phones, and wireless sensors and actuators. • 41. Symbolism In St. John s Aquin By Nick Joaquin Tadtarin, a festival for women fertility is paradoxical when celebrated on the Feast Day of John the Baptist [and the preceding two days] which is an event that symbolizes manhood. The said symbol was described in the line a fine, blonde, heroic St. John: very male, very arrogant: the Lord of Summer indeed; the Lord of Light and Heat erect and godly virile above the prone and female earth . This was opposed by the fact that at the end of the day of the feast, where the women will worship a more ancient lord , the Tadtarin will happen. This may symbolize the rule of women in the story as depicted in the thoughts of Doña Lupeng on the John the Baptist feast, For this arrogance, this pride, this bluff male health of theirs was founded on the ... Tadtarin and Japan s Kanamara Matsuri Festival, which is known as one of the penis festivals in the said country both symbolize fertility. While Tadtarin serves as the feast of the fertility of women, Kanamara Matsuri Festival is a celebration of the fertility of men. • 43. Analysis Of Katharine Kolcaba s Comfort Theory Comfort theory was created in the 1990 s by Katharine Kolcaba who was performing research on the analysis of comfort across many disciplines (Petiprin, 2016). From her research, she created a theory of nursing based upon three major forms of comfort that humans need to achieve wellness (Petiprin, 2016). They include: relief, ease and transcendence. Relief is the feeling obtained by patients as needs are being met (Petiprin, 2016). Ease is what patients feel when they are relaxed and have the sense of comfort that their needs have been met and they no longer need to feel anxious (Petiprin, 2016). Transcendence is the ability for patients to use their sense of comfort to rise above any struggles and conflicts they may be facing (Petiprin, 2016). Overall, Kolcaba defines her theory and comfort in general as the immediate state of being strengthened through having the human needs for relief, ease, and transcendence addressed in four contexts of experience (physical, psychospiritual, sociocultural, and environmental) (Kolcaba DiMarco, 2005). By using this theory in a hospital environment, Kolcaba hoped that comfort levels would be increased for all patients, staff and visitors and that patient health would improve as a result of this theory implementation (Boudiab Kolcaba, 2015).
