1950 s Sociology
The 1950 s saw a boom in the development of suburbs to counter the post World War 2 housing
shortage problem as living in the suburbs offered an alternative to the overcrowded cities. This
phenomenon coincided with the significant growth of the American economy, which granted the
people stronger purchasing power to own a big house in the suburbs and the confidence to improve
their socioeconomic status. Consequently, the suburban lifestyle came to be associated with strong
familial ties and upward social mobility, which can be defined as the American ideals of the 1950 s.
It is important to note that the media had a very significant role in shaping these ideals, mainly
through situational comedies (sitcoms) on television and advertisement, both... Show more content

This was largely due to the lack of representation of other groups of people such as the African
Americans, homosexuals and Americans from a lower socioeconomic status. In the area of race
for example, most sitcoms in the 1950 s such as I Love Lucy (1951) and The Honeymooners
(1956) mainly featured white characters, with little or no mention of other races. Set in a wider
context, these American ideals coincided with the Civil Rights Movement (1954) which sought to
end racial discrimination and segregation, therefore highlighting how these ideals did not
encompass Americans from all walks of life but only the white majority. Hence in leaving out
Americans from other racial and social groups, the media mostly shaped only the American ideals
of the white majority as it failed to encompass America as a diverse

Difference Between What Eatracker Recommends And What The...
There is a slight difference between what eaTracker recommends and what the CFG suggests.
The CFG is more lenient (7 8 and 6 7 for vegetables and Fruits, and Grain products, respectively)
while eaTracker is more definitive for those values, 8 and 7 respectively. The values for milk and
alternatives, and meatand alternatives is the same however, two for both. The difference might be
due to the specific nature of eaTracker, it has my weight, height, specific age and gender, and
my exercising habits, to gather data from while CFG only has my gender and age to narrow
down recommendations from. Due to the difference in information eaTracker can be more
specific as it is adjusted for me while CFG is made for the general public, relying on a lot of
statistics to come to its conclusions (such as average height and weight of females in Canada).
c) Unfortunately, I have not met the recommended intake by eaTRackers standard for any of the
food groups making my diet inadequate. For fruits and veggies I could have had one more in
order to meet the standard, I could include a cup of raw zucchini to sprinkle with my salad. For
the grain products, I can consume 2.15 cups of rice. I was close to the recommended servings
for the diary and alternative if I add 0.5 cup of milk I would meet my standard. For the meat and
alternatives I would need 1.2 servings to reach the standard, however as this is difficult to measure
out I will go to 1.5 servings (I primarily get my protein from

Theme Of Death Of The Moth By Virginia Woolf
The story by Virginia Wolf universally illustrates the struggle for life and death. It is a common
phrase that death is inevitable the story shows the struggles with life that are not won in the end. In
The Death of the Moth, Woolf observes a moth flying against a window pane, seemingly trying to
get to the outside world, and not aware that the window pane is blocking its way. There is truth in
saying the only commonality between lives is the inevitability of death. The Death of the Moth by
Virginia Woolf explores this theme. Although the thesis is never formally stated, it can be
interpreted to be that death is inescapable, and in spite of life being an uphill battle, it can never be
won as eventually death claims us all. Taking into account Woolf s personal life, which was plagued
with bouts of mental illnesses, ultimately resulting in her suicide; this essay could be considered a
comparison between her own life and the moth s. This essay is intended for the general public, but
it particularly resonates with women and minorities, this is because of Woolf s description of the
moth s battles. In retelling the moth s struggles the audience develops a certain bond with the moth,
this is amplified for people who have been repressed, as they can relate to the hardships this looked
down upon moth has endured.
The author has a pessimistic view on life and death which is manifested in the tone. Woolf is clear
on her view that life is just one battle after another, and that

Government Intervention And The Internet
Government Intervention in the Internet
A growing concern over our privacy online is causing us to seek legislation to protect us. Although
this may seem harmless and beneficial for all, there are many valid points as to why the government
should not intervene. When it comes to privacy online, the responsibility should be left in the hands
of the people that disclose such information in the first place. Government involvement should not
be allowed for the sake of our privacy, because it may come at the cost of being censored, losing
technical expertise, losing innovation, and DE unifying the internet. Despite all this, many still argue
in favor of government intervention. The majority of the reasons behind anyone that may argue in
favor of government intervention is the added protection to our private information from criminals
(Jason H.), and the vast amounts of explicit adult media that can be accessed by anyone, especially
children. What many may not know is that these problems can be handled by the people. Many
popular social and banking sites have effective countermeasures to protect the privacy of their users.
Although these security systems are robust, the user should be wary that their information may be
compromised if not handled correctly. Users should be careful about posting sensitive material on
sites that are easily susceptible to security breaches. Changing passwords regularly, avoiding sharing
information with strangers and destroying waste files with

The Seven Years War
With the Seven Years War (French and Indian War) complete, the British thought they would be at
peace. The common thought was to prosper from the colonies by making them pay certain taxes
based on products they imported or even exported. The American colonists and British
policymakers were having major disagreements in the period of 1763 1776. The taxed colonists
were resenting the British Parliament and started small protests in the area. The common
disagreements were over the levied taxes, which started with the sugar, currency and stamp act,
followed by the Townshend Duties and then the Tea Act which tipped the scales making most
despise the British Parliament s actions. This turned some of the colonists against the British which

anti British activities. The colonists even went as far as not allowing ships to enter or leave ports
with imports of specific items that would be taxed. This finally led to the Boston Tea Partyin 1773.
A few dozen colonists dressed as Native Americans, and protected by some other colonists,
boarded ships in Boston Harbor and began throwing barrels of tea overboard in protest to the
taxes. After this, the port of Boston was closed by Parliament. The news made it to other colonies
up and down the eastern seaboard and the colonists started to respond. There was a tension in the
air that was unmatched, and the colonists were preparing to fight. The British believed they had the

Beaten by a Hair
Introduction
The case I chose to write on is based on a DVD that we watched in class called Beaten by a hair .
In this case, a woman was reported missing after she went to work and never returned home.
After the police discovered a bloody pillow case in the woods, near her house, they linked it to
the missing pillow case in the woman s room, and then realized that they had a murder case on
their hands. A mystery in the case was that one of the local neighbors had mentioned seeing the
woman leave through the front door of her house but the evidence says different, so investigators
had to find out who left the house that morning. I am interested in this case because it was very
intriguing how the forensic officers put all the pieces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
294). This means even after a week the blood has been cleaned up, luminol can still detect it. Also
after applying luminol, the area needs to be darkened so that blue glow can be emitted. The iron
from the hemoglobin in the blood causes luminol to glow, so a blue glow is produced when the
solution is sprayed where there is blood. Only a tiny amount of iron is required to catalyze the
reaction (Helmenstine, 2012). The use of luminol revealed that there were blood stains on the bed
sheets and suspected that the woman was killed in her bedroom and that she did not go to work
that day or leave the house.
Upon further analysis of the woman s bedroom, the forensic officers used a chemical called
amido black. Amido black is a protein dye that is sensitive to the protein in blood and when it
makes contact stains a latent blue black colour. It is used for revealing fingerprints, trace
evidence, and fibers that may be in the crime scene. This technique was not useful for the
officers because they could not find any prints or evidence. The forensic officers also performed
an ultraviolet light test which was used to reveal trace evidence such as vaginal fluid, urine,
semen, or saliva. The ultraviolet test is usually done before using chemicals such as luminol to see
if there are any fibers to be found and used first. However the officers were not able to find
anything, but this method was useful to them because they could not find any evidence to prove that

Overfishing In South Africa
Overfishing has become a devastating reality and priority concern to our Oceans in South Africa,
as well on a global scale. The interest of overfishing, is to eradicate hunger issues in developing
countries all over the world, as well as to create a vast improvement of job opportunities, however
due to our unsustainable fishing practices, it is just a matter of time before our oceans are
completely depleted of marine species, and the destruction of the aquatic ecosystem. This issue will
resort to irreparable socio economic and environmental circumstances that will be of severe
consequence if we do not alter our local and international commercial fishing operations. Due to
overfishing throughout the continents, South African waters has become a viable target for
international role players to maintain the demand of fishing operations and fishstocks that is
required for global markets. Due to inadequately monitored fishing operations, overfishing has
left South Africa with a significant shortage of food resources for the poor, who depend on fish
as their staple diet. According to the World Wildlife Fund, Seafood is the largest traded food
commodity in the world. Approximately three billion people worldwide rely on seafood as their
primary source of protein. As the world tries to meet that demand, 55 percent of the world s
fisheries are fished to their maximum sustainable yield, while 30 percent have been pushed beyond
their biological limits. Preserving healthy fish

Character Analysis Of Mike Wazowski And Sulley In...
Monsters, Inc. is a well loved childhood movie. Almost everyone has seen it, or at least heard of
it. Mike Wazowski and Sulley are the most established and famous characters from the movie.
Mike is known as Sulley s side kick and accompanies him while he is out scaring. Mike doesn t
always agree with Sulley, but tries to support him as much as possible. Mike Wazowski is
known best by his appearance, his personality, and his humor, or lack thereof. Mike s appearance
is a little different from most of the monsters seen roaming the factory in the parallel city of
Monstropolis. Mike isn t scary, even though that s the entirety of his job as a monster, which is
to scare. He is green and petite for a monster. His arms legs are toothpicks compared to his body.
Imagine a sphere with strings as limbs, that is how I would best describe his shape. The eye
centered on his head is a jewel tone green and very large. Rows of teeth are scrunched together in
has mouth and are especially visible when he smiles.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mike Wazowski doesn t even like scaring the kids every night, since he is such a nice monster.
That is the reason he is Sulley s other half. Mike doesn t participate in the scaring much and just
focuses on the paperwork and the odds and ends no one else wants to do. His personality shows he
is also very hard working. Long hours working with Sully on trying to be more scary isn t exactly
what Mike wants to do, but he didn t give up on trying to scare. Boo is the young girl that was
stuck in Monstropolis, where the scarers scare. Mike showed her love, which proved him to be
very thoughtful. People can also argue Mike is daring by hiding boo with him and supporting
Sulley who had a great bond with Boo. At the end, Mike finds every shed of Boo s drawer and
adheres it all back together as a gift for

Food Truck Research Paper
Food Truck Expanitory The choices about most of my food truck decision were of two sorts,
the ones made as they came and the ones who were planned much in advance. The large part of
the food truck assignment, the truck itself, was one of the few drawn out parts of the project.
For a while I thought of a few ideas, the first of which was the name, Seaside Rainmaker. The two
main parts of my project really revolved around the lack of water in the world, and the
technological solutions provided to solve them, the real main focus of which was desalination.
Seaside, really made sense because it is both related to water and sounds like a generally positive
place to be, even if my project really was not tackling positive issues. Rainmaker, felt appropriate
because I really wanted to know about the ways to produce water. Together they come off naturally
like a regular business name. Other names choices included, That Dry Spot, The Water Hole, and
the Oasis. Moving away from just the name, the construction and... Show more content on

I think the first was obvious, and having a humorous item on the menu was refreshing. The
Ocean Breeze certainly had the markings of the salt water that was mentioned thoroughly
through both my blog and research paper, and although technically not a food per say, it is
drinkable. Aquifer Lemon Tea just made sense, again linking the menu to a liquid, like water,
and having something I researched in the name. Osmosis Latte , another drink, related to
desalination because it is one of main processes that desalination really uses, reverse osmosis. It
being a latte, and a latte normally being very expensive, much like the plants themselves
connected in a positive way. The Sponge Cake became a play on words for real sponges, which
relates loosely and fits in with the rest of the types of drinks as a dessert to drink with. Finally my

Airline Industry Essay
Management Accountin
TERM PAPER
Abstract: Competition today is one of the major threats to an airline industry. Competitive
advantage therefore can be achieved by establishing cost leadership. The ultimate challenge faced
by any company would be to leverage between the escalating operational costs and falling revenues
so as to maximise the profits. Determine the costing procedure of an airline industry and the various
possible efforts it takes to reduce the costs. The airline industry employs a trend and horizontal
analysis to evaluate its performance and productivity. This industry can be categorised into
international, national, regional and cargo operations. The major costs incurred by the airline
industry are weather costs, fuel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to the adverse financial results the airline industry has experienced, most airlines have
taken actions in an effort to reduce losses, such as reducing capacity, reducing employee headcount,
limiting service offerings, renegotiating labor contracts and reconfiguring flight schedules, as well
as other efficiency and cost cutting measures. Despite these actions, financial losses in the airline
industry have continued through 2005 and it is foreseeable that further airline reorganizations,
bankruptcies or consolidations may occur, which could serve to reduce our cost advantage. We
cannot assure you that the occurrence of these events or potential changes resulting from these
events will not harm our business or the airline industry generally. Major airlines are reducing their
cost structures through various methods, these changes could reduce our cost advantage. The
airline industry has incurred significant losses resulting in airline restructurings and bankruptcies,
which could result in changes in our industry. As a result of slower general economic conditions,
the continuing impact of the 2001 terrorist attacks, the high price of fuel and military action in Iraq,
the airline industry has experienced a decline in demand which has resulted in record financial
losses.

How Did Connecticut Get Its Shape
Connecticut got its shape in three major ways. Those are ways are glaciation, plate tectonics,
and weathering and erosion. One major way Connecticut got its shape was from glaciation. For
example, glaciation formed Jobs Pond. Jobs Pond is a giant kettle hole, which is a depression
caused by the impact of a massive chunk of ice, or a glacier. According to The Mystery Of Jobs
Pond, geologists and hydrologists the water level rises and falls with the groundwater level in
the area, because porous sand and gravel make up the bottom of the pond. A kettle hole is
formed by a glacier, so glaciation formed Jobs Pond. Another landscape formed by glaciation is
recessional moraines. A recessional moraine is a pile of rocks left behind when a glacier
recedes, or moves back. As a glacier moves, it picks up rocks in a process called plucking. Then,
as the glacier starts to melt, it recedes. As it does this it drops off rocks, forming a recessional
moraine. Recessional moraines, formed from glaciation, are found all along the Connecticut
shoreline.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, The appalachian Mountains were formed by a massive continental collision over 300
million years ago. According to page 88 in my science notebook, the rocks in the Chattooga River is
evidence of the continental collision. Mountains are formed when two continental plates collide,
and form the mountains. The Appalachian mountains, were formed during Pangea. The North
American Plate and the African Plate collided. When this happened the Appalachian Mountains
were formed. These mountains then grew bigger, but as soon as it started growing, it also eroded.

own set of ethics. This set of moral principals can vary radically, depending on the subject,

Disadvantages Of Americanization
Although America was able to gain much political power through its ever growing economy there
were many social costs during the process of growth and wealth creation, which are the negative
and undesirable effects of large US corporations (Galambos, 933). One disadvantage of the
American corporate system is the tendency towards monopolization within the market (Galambos,
933). This, in turn, will create oligopolies within industries and thus there will be little chance or
incentive for competition (Galambos, 937 38). Little plurality of firms dominating the economy is
problematic as economic power is so closely tied to political power (Galambos, 937 38). Now, in
an international framework, as a nation, it is quite arguable why this would be... Show more content

increased efficiency to promote growth and profit within their economy (44). The incentive has
been to catch up with American prosperity by adopting certain features that characterize huge profit

has successfully adopted parts of the American style corporate structure, it has hybridized them with
socialist values and features (44). European states have been selective in the process of doing so in
order for the system to work successfully within national preconditions and at the same time

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Systemic Lupus
Have you ever stopped to think about how your body is protected from various illnesses and
infections? The human body has an amazing network of cells, tissues and organs to do just that.
This network is called the immune system. But what if that very system that was designed to
protect your body attacked healthy cells by mistake? Autoimmune disorders are diseases in which
the body s immune systemattacks healthy cells (Curtis 278). One such disease is called Lupus.
Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disorder that affects the
connective tissues resulting in pervasive damage to multiple organs. Striking mostly women of
childbearing age, this profound disease is estimated to affect at least 5 million people worldwide
(Lupus Facts and Statistics). Currently there is no cure for SLE, however, modern sciences have
developed numerous treatments (La Paglia 551 561).
SLE is a chronic disease which can often be disabling (Auerbach and Beckerman 269 278). Lupus
predominantly affects the heart, kidneys, lungs, brain, blood vessels, joints and skin. Symptoms
such as painful joints, sore muscles, cognitive issues, fever, Raynaud s phenomenon,
photosensitivity, and rashes tend to be the most common ( Lupus. , Arthritis 67 68). SLE is
characterized by persistent remissions and exacerbations. Exacerbations tend to be more prominent
in the Spring and Summer, possibly due to an increase in sun exposure. Due to the chronic

Cancer Treatment Patients with cancer are in for a long course of treatment. A typical course of
treatment involves chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. After any of these treatments, it will not
be safe for the patient to drive themselves home. This means the patient will need transportation
both to and from the treatment center. During treatment, the cancer patient s immune system is
compromised. They aren t even supposed to consume raw eggs because of the higher than normal

Taking public transit exposes you to crowds, germs, the possibility of being injured, the
possibility of getting lost and other serious risks during a vulnerable time in your life. Neither of
these options makes sense. If something goes wrong, they can both lead to very serious
problems. These serious problems can add up to much bigger expenses than the cost of medical
transportation. The cost of medical transportation can be though of as a small price to pay to
protect yourself from a long list of risks. It can buy you peace of mind and a better recovery. The
value of that cannot be overstated. When you are having such a serious health event, it makes
no sense to cut corners. You need to do a cost benefit analysis that looks at getting you the best
possible outcome for a reasonable price, not what has the lowest initial sticker price. At a time
like this, trying to cut costs in a way that undermines your health and recovery process is likely to
be the most expensive answer in the long run. The cheapest solution will be the one that helps you
recover both well and rapidly, so you can get back in the game. For a great many people, medical
transportation is part of that optimal

Gothicism In Modernism, AndA Rose For Emily
In short stories, Modernism and Gothicism both play a very important role in character
development and portrayal of themes. These literary movements can be compared and contrasted
between two shorts stories, The Possibility of Evil by Shirley Jackson and A Rose for Emily by
William Faulkner. For Modernism, these stories both show a break in traditional ideals involving
the typical views of society. In relation to Gothicism the most obvious element is the confusion
between good and evil; also, both of the protagonists in these stories are outcast within society, but
the ways they became outcast differ vastly. Altogether, these similarities and differences of these
elements connect the stories smoothly thanks to the purposeful use of literary movements.
Modernism is/was a literary movement that was characterized by a disassociation with tradition
and opposition of established societal views. In A Rose for Emily William Faulknershows this
break in precedent with Mr. Grierson s treatment of Emily as a child. The tableau of her and her
father in the doorway, his back to her and clutching a horsewhip (Faulkner Line 146), perfectly
expresses how her childhood led to her inability to find a suitor. Also, this scene cause a reaction
from the society; the narrator explains that after she turned thirty the people of the town were not
pleased exactly, but vindicated (Faulkner Line 158). Similarly, Shirley Jackson used modernism to
show Miss Strangeworth as an outcast and how

Should We Continue Human Cloning
One event that will probably in happen in the near future is human cloning. Human cloning began
inevitable when Scottish scientists made Dolly. The sheep was cloned on July 5, 1996 which
made her the most famous sheep in the world. Dolly was the result of 277 failed attempts. She was
actually formed without a sperm. So Dollys cell began from a sheep and was fused with a donor egg

Examples Of Gender Inequality In Antigone
Gender inequality is still common today for women as it was in the 1900s when they weren t
allowed to vote. Although today s women have gained more rights but they still face pay inequality
compared to men. Antigone is a fictional story which the author conveys a message of the
mistreatment of women had to faced in ancient Greece. The play of Antigoneis written by Sophocles
who spoke of a young girl named Antigone who disobeyed her uncle s wishes for burying her
dead traitorous brother. She gave up her life with her righteous and courageous actions for her

women are nothing but pleasure to men. Greek society pictured women to be used for pleasure

The Physics of Archery Essay
The Physics of Archery
There are not many activities out there that relax and soothe me quite like shooting my bow. It is
not as simple as it sounds though, just pulling on the string, releasing the string, and watching the
arrow fly towards your target. There are a number of aspects that must be taken into consideration
when trying to shoot a bow and arrow efficiently, this is where we will get into the physics of
archery.
There are two main things to consider when looking at archery and the physics concepts behind it.
First there is the bow, which basically is a device that uses human force over a distance and
converts that into stored Mechanical Potential Energy. The second factor involves that stored
Mechanical Energy being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The materials that construct the Recurve bow must be taken into consideration when looking at
the force applied from the bow. The most popular material for traditional archers today would
have to be a certain type of wood from the yew tree. The reason for this particular choice of wood
is that it contains the highest elastic energy storage per unit mass for any type of wood, which is
around 700 Jkg 1. Which is very close to having the same rating as spring steel. However with
technology these days more people are leaning towards a type of carbon fiberglass laminate. This
particular combination brings both a lighter weight than wood and a higher elasticity rating. The
reason some wood bows are still around is due to the fact the old timer traditional type archers shun
using any kind of technology or advancements to aid them in shooting their bows. The material of
the strings also needs to be taken into consideration, this is so because the string mass needs to be
kept as low as possible for obvious reasons with efficiency and speed of the bow.
Another thing to be looked at would be the Draw Weight or Draw Force of the bow, which
basically is how much weight or force is

Legal Issues Surrounding The Death Penalty
Some legal issues gain importance because they concern basic religious, social and ethical values.
Capital punishment is one of these concerning issues. Most people hold an opinion, pro or con
regarding the death penalty. Many people who favor the death penalty believe that capital
punishment costs less money, reduces the amount of murderers, and fulfills the concept of justice.
On the other hand people who disagree with capital punishmentbelieve that innocent people are
often put to death, it doesn t fix the crimeperson committed, and it s a cruel punishment. In viewing
both sides of the argument it is clear that the death penaltymust be abolished.
The history of the death penalty goes back as far as people can remember. The earliest records ...

The issue moved onto a front burner in July 1997 when Dieter s group published a report
claiming that 69 innocent persons had been freed from death rows since the reinstitution of
capital punishment in the United States in 1976. (Jost) The death penalty can be faulty. Some
also say that there s no point in putting someone to death. Revenge, anger and hate will never
cure the sadness of a lost loved one. They believe that it doesn t change the fact that crime the
suspect committed can never be fixed. What s done is done, and it can t be taken back. Also
different types of people like the mentally ill or juveniles get treated differently when it comes to
the death penalty. Sick people and children should not be executed. The death penalty applies
differently towards different people; For Example the United States has executed more juvenile
offenders 160 than any nation since 1973. (Cooper) Most who agree with capital punishment
follow the old Bible teaching, An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and a life for a life. Support
for the capital punishment is strong in the U.S. 64% express support for the death penalty
(McCarthy) according to the recent Gallup Poll. People believe that anyone who takes another s
life away deserves to have their life taken. Many believe that the system serves as a form of
justice allowing suspect to get what they deserve. Many people think that the families of the
victims should be able to see the murderer suffer just as their loved ones

How does Clint Eastwood, director of the film, Invictus,...
How does Clint Eastwood, director of the film, Invictus, use the South African rugby team (the
Springboks) as a vehicle to bring a troubled nation together?
Clint Eastwood shows the change in the nation of South Africa in Invictus, using the Springboks as
a vehicle. He starts the film with large amounts of separation, followed by the steady change in the
middle of the movie, and finishing with the nation combined.
In the beginning of the film, Clint Eastwood shows how separated black and white people are and
how they do not get along, due to the change of the government and the Springboks. Because of the
change in government, Nelson Mandela s staff started to pack their things up as if they were
leaving their jobs, but Nelson Mandela ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, the police officers rudely send him away and continue to listen to the game. The African
child still tries to get closer and closer, while pretending to collect soft drink cans. But, towards
the end of the scene, the Springboks score and win the game, and the police become more
accepting and forgiving. They begin to celebrate with the child and raise him up on their
shoulders as if he were a mascot. Ironically, in the beginning of the film, the same child is seen
refusing to wear a Springbok jersey. By using the same child in the beginning of the movie and
towards the end, this shows the audience how the South Africans have changed their view on the
Springboks. This acceptance of the Springboks showed the beginnings of a nation coming together.
During the World Cup, the final game in the film, the scene occasionally cuts to shots of empty
streets and empty houses. This technique shows that everyone is watching the game and that
everyone is excited to see the outcome. Another thing Clint Eastwood did to show the black and
white people combined is at the end of the movie. He used the world cup to symbolise the nation
had been brought together. He did this by making Francois and Chester to both hold the World Cup
up above their heads, showing the black and white hand together.
By the end of the film Invictus, during the final scene, one can see that the crowd watching the
rugby game has changed quite considerably, compared to the game in the start

Thomas Lanier Williams, And Tennessee Williams

on March 26, 1911 in Columbus, Mississippi. He was the second of three children, he had an
older sister Rose and a younger brother Dakin, born to Cornelius and Edwina Williams. Because
Williams father was a traveling shoe salesman for much of his early childhood he and his family
lived with his maternal grandparents. However, due to the nature of his grandfather s work as
an Episcopal minister the family moved often; residing in several Mississippi towns during
Williams first 7 years. During those early years he managed to grow close to his sister Rose and
his grandfather. In 1918, Cornelius secured a position at a shoe factory which allowed him to
move the family to St. Louis, Missouri. The move was difficult for the family; the marriage
between Cornelius and Edwina was described as strained and the Williams children were teased
and bullied at their new school. It is at this time when Williams began skipping school and
spending much of his time writing. In 1928, at the age of 16 Williams was first published after
placing third in an essay contest. Then in 1929, he enrolled at the University of Missouri, to
pursue a degree in journalism at his father s insistence. However, in 1931 before he had obtained a

after World War II ended there was a move to establish a true nationwide league. This lead to the

Long-Term Effects of Divorce on Adolescent Boys and Girls
Long Term Effects of Divorce on Adolescent Boys and Girls
Undra Parker
Wayland Baptist University
Abstract
Parental divorce can result in devastating effects on children. These children suffer tremendous long
term consequences as a result of an event that is not their doing. This paper reviews literature and
opinions concerning the long term effects of divorce on adolescents. The paper outlines four major
areas of interest: aggression as a result of parental conflict and the different types associated with
boys and girls, depression in the lives of boys and girls in its various forms, the choice boys and
girls make to marry or not later in life and the possibility of adolescents expressing parental
alienation. The results of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a study published in 2007, Sarrazin and Cyr claim that aggression is more rampant if the child
is left in the custody of the less dominant parent. If the child identifies him or herself with the less
dominating opposite sex or the dominating same sex parent there could be increased problems of
aggression. If the father is the dominant figure then boys show fewer problems and vice versa
for girls if the mother is the dominant figure [ (Sarrazin amp; Cyr, 2007) ]. The father figure is
very important especially to adolescent boys because when father is absent they react more
aggressively than girls [ (Dreman, 2000; Sarrazin amp; Cyr, 2007) ]. Portnoy [ (2006) ] stated
that 20 percent of divorced fathers do not see their children at all during their high school years [
(p. 76) ]. Oftentimes when boys are placed in the custody of the mother these mothers identify sons
with their ex spouse which results in the child exerting more aggression either towards the custodial
parent, non custodial parent or others [ (Dreman, 2000) ].
Research has identified different types of aggression to include instrumental, reactive, relational,
bullying aggression (Berger, 2008; Merrell, Buchanan, amp; Tran, 2006; Cappella amp; Weinstein,
2006) and social aggression [ (Merrell, Buchanan, amp; Tran, 2006; Cappella amp; Weinstein,

Taco Bell Literature Comparison Essay

Taco Bell, a United States fast food franchise, is expanding to other parts of the world. In 2011,
Taco Bell introduced its Mexican inspired cuisine to India by opening its first restaurant in
Bangalore. U.S. Taco Bell restaurants are known for their on the go, quick food experience. In
contrast, Taco Bell restaurants in India are a sit down, dining experience (Tandon, 2016). As the
franchise opened more locations in India, Taco Bell also created an Indian version of the Taco Bell
website. When comparing these two websites, there are apparent cultural differences between the
sites layout and content. This report will explore these differences and compare the two Taco Bell
websites based on three of Hofstede s cultural dimensions: individualism, indulgence, and
uncertainty avoidance. Examining Hofstede s current cultural comparisons of the U.S. and India
(Shah, 2013), we hypothesize that the U.S. Taco Bell website will rank higher than its Indian
counterpart in individualism and indulgence. For uncertainty avoidance, we believe that they will
have similar results. This report will discuss the literature review of these cultural dimensions, the
methods that are used to evaluate these cultural dimensions, the results of applying these methods
on these two Taco Bell websites, discussion of these result findings, a conclusion, and
recommendations for both the U.S. and Indian Taco Bell websites. Literature Review

Political Changes In The Kite Runner
Cruel, hateful, sexist, and inhumane. These are just some of the words that can describe the

comedian. The audience for this advertisement would be the general public but specifically fathers
who are protective for their daughters or family oriented individuals. The ethical appeal of the
video is Kevin Hart himself; he is a famous actor with a wide fan base. Incorporating humour and
celebrity endorsement into the advertisement makes it catchier and attractive for the potential
youth customers. The emotions displayed of over protectiveness targets fathers who can
empathise with Hart; thus bringing in the pathetic appeal. Moreover, the soundtrack is an old
song called Another one bites the dust by Queen which is very apt for the scene. The song
stresses the fact that the father will not allow any boy to come close to his daughter because they
worry for their safety. The Logos is the feature they are promoting of tracking the car; the details
are given in a small font at the bottom during the video. Furthermore, the technological feature is
proved to be of excellence in the commercial by the accuracy of the device shown. This exhibits the
operational facts of the device. As a whole, throughout the advertisement, the focus has been on the
feature being

Pneumonia Research Paper
Introduction
Pneumonia has been around for a very long time, killing millions of people every year especially
in undeveloped countries. It s a huge problem when it comes to infants and the elderly. African
Americans suffer greatly from catching pneumonia because they don t get vaccinated. Despite the
disease being around for a long time and vaccinations being openly available it s still the seventh
leading cause of disease in countries like America and an even larger complication in undeveloped
countries where healthcare is a difficult situation to tackle.
The bacteria that causes one of many different types of pneumonia that will be the focus of the
paper is streptococcus pneumoniae. Streptococcus pneumoniae is also found in other diseases like
meningitis, sinusitis, and middle ear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are usually found in pairs of cocci, or diplococci. Sometimes they appear in chains or in
singles. They are non motile organisms meaning they re unable to swim or move on their own.
There are over ninety different serotype of streptococcus pneumoniae which causes great difficulty
when trying to develop a vaccine for this bacterium. If streptococcus is allowed to persist in the
lungs it can invade the blood, which causes bacteremia. When in the blood it can cross the blood
brain barrier and infect the meninges, which could result in meningitis, sinusitis, and middle ear
infection. Streptococcus pneumoniae is characterized by a polysaccharide capsule that completely
encloses the cell, and plays a key role in it virulence. Streptococcus pneumoniae contains more than
500 different surface proteins. Streptococcus lacks the catalyst and ferments glucose to lactic acid,
like most streptococci. Streptococcus pneumoniae gets a significant amount of its carbon and
nitrogen through extracellular enzymes systems that allow the metabolism of polysaccharides and
hexosamines, as well as cause damages to host tissues and enable

The Three Stages Pre Decision Point
Q3a)
Q3b) I think that the HIPC approach is fair, as the process of the HIPC contains 3 stages, that are
fair and possible to accomplish. The three stages pre decision point, decision point, and completion
point are fair to decide if a country deserves help, and what kind of help it requires. Also, the fact
that in stage two, the PRSP (poverty reduction strategy paper) makes sure that the countries that are
in debt structure their spending and paying back properly to achieve paying their debts more
efficiently. This initiative, in my opinion, is a good approach, as debt is relieved.
Q5a) The conditions attached to multilateral aid from the world bank/IMF are serious, as they
impact countries that borrow that money. These conditions include:
Cut government services
Sell government assets
Boost cash crop production
Allow foreign competitors to enter the market
These conditions sometimes require countries in debt to stop funding education and healthcare, and
start funding projects that require lender countries companies to build these projects. Aldo, the fact
that the lenders benefit more from lending money to poor countries, as they get the money back in
return as they have the power to control the countries in debt.
Q5b) From the perspective of the citizens, devaluing the currency would be disastrous as the
citizens assets are in that currency, as well as their life savings. For example, in Iraq, when the
currency collapsed, people s savings were

This is a laboratory to learn how to make measurements using a strain gauge by using different
configurations, also to determine experimentally the axial and transverse stress at the surface of the
beam and compare them to theoretical calculations|
Introduction
If a length of wire is subject to a stress within its elastic limits, the resulting elongation and change
of diameter alters the resistance. The resulting principle is used in the resistance strain gauge, which
consists of many turns of resistance wire, wound on an insulating former, the strain gauge wire is

О”= mx22EI+c1x+c2
Now we work out the values for c1 and c2, we do this by looking at the boundary conditions. These
are:
1. x=0, О”=0
2. x=l, О”=0
Using the first set of conditions we realise that: c2=0 Using the second set of condition we realise
that: c1=ml2EI Subbing these into the full equation, we get:
О”= mx22EI+mlx2EI
Finally, we want to measure the deflection at a point where it is a maximum. Because this is a
symmetrically loaded beam, the point where max deflection occurs is at the centre, where x=l/2.
Subbing this into the equation we get:
О”= ml28EI+ml24EI
When calculating the experimental axial stress, we used the formula: Пѓaxial=E1
ОЅ2Г—Оµax+ОЅ.Оµtr When calculating Оµx, Оµy and П„xy using the rosette strain gauges, we
use the following set of simultaneous equations: Оµ1=
ОµxcosО±2+ОµysinО±2+П„xysinО±cosО± Оµ2= ОµxcosОІ2+ОµysinОІ2+П„xysinОІcosОІ
Оµ3= ОµxcosП•2+ОµysinП•2+П„xysinП•cosП•
Where Оµ1, Оµ2 and Оµ3 are the measurements from the rosette gauges and О±, ОІ and П• are the
angles each strain gauge makes to the axis of the beam.
When analyzing the mohr circle, we used an equation to calculate the centre of the circle, and an
equation to calculate the radius of the circle. Here they are: c=Оµx+Оµy2 for the centre and :
r=(Оµx+Оµy)22+П„xy22 for the radius of the circle.
Method and Rig
We used a rig which consisted of a beam which is symmetrically and simply supported on each
side. The 5 strain gauges were an

Michael Phelps Is An International Swimming Sensation
Michael Phelps is an international swimming sensation from the United States. Born in 1985 in
Baltimore Maryland, he began swimming at an early age. By age fifteen, he competed in his first
Olympics as a member of the U.S. men s swim team. Not seven years later, Phelps dominated the
next Olympic Games and set the world records.
Phelps is most known for his Olympian status and endorsement deals. At just twenty two years old,
Phelps set the world record for men s swimming medals earned during the Olympics. He also set
the record for most medals won by an Olympian athlete. Michael Phelps became the face of men s
swimming and a sponsor for many products.
Growing up, Phelps lived a middle class life in a nice area of Baltimore. His ... Show more content

After a divorce in the family, many children act out, rebel, and get themselves into trouble. The
divorce did not cause any undue harm on Phelps per se. He maintained his health and fitness levels
and was determined to keep swimming.
Water is always nearby in the Baltimore, Maryland area, and most residents gravitate towards
the water via boating and swimming. Phelps took a love of water more seriously and began to
hone his swimming skills to become the best in Maryland. Soon after wishing to become the best
in Maryland, Phelps set his sights on the Olympics. He began swimming at a high school pool and
training at an aquatic club in Maryland. The coach could sense the fierce competition and skill
Phelps portrayed in the water and began to work with Michael with intense training sessions. At
age fifteen, Phelps was the youngest member of the Olympic American male swim team in sixty
eight years. He did not win any medals at this Olympic Games, but he made the team, set a record,
and left determined to try again.
Michael Phelps had ample time to drop out of swimming, pursue other interests, or become
discouraged. Despite being the youngest man on most every swim team, and not winning as many
awards early on, Phelps continued to train and workout daily and stuck to a strict diet designed to
keep his body in ideal shape for swimming. His

Impact Of Religion On Greek Theatre
Religion had a very large impact on Greek theatre. Religion was related to many everyday life
tasks in ancient Greece such as festivals, initiations, and oracles. Religion was a very important
subject and was something they used in their everyday lives. This is why, in my opinion ,religion
had a high impact on Greek theatre. The religion of Greek people is an important aspect of the
Greek culture. (Religion in GreeceSource:www.greeka.com) Greek religion was a form of
polytheism, which meant that they believed in many deities. Because religion was not built around
a book, they expressed it in many forms. Greek theatre was performed on many different occasions,
including special occasions. Greek religion was both private and... Show more content on

The two types of Greek dramas would be popular and performances spread around the
Mediterranean influenced Hellenistic and Roman theatre. The works of such great playwrights as
Sophocles and Aristophanes formed the foundation upon which all modern theatre is
based.(Ancient Greek theatre,Ancient history encyclopedia by Mark Cartwright July 14 2016)
Greek theater is still one of the most important and long lasting theatrical influences in the world,
and with some Greek plays still being performed to this day.
Theatre became important to Greek cultures when it became a part of the festival honoring the god
Dionysus (The god of wine and fertility). ( Greek Mythology in Theater by Bruce Tucker October
27, 2016) The theater festival was founded to bring unity among the Attican tribes.( Greek
Mythology in Theater by Bruce Tucker October 27, 2016) Athens was the main center of these
traditions. Everyone came to sing and dance in hope for a good harvest. At one point, a Greek
named Thespis began to sing praises to the god, with others responding, which led to the actor and
chorus. During the festival everyone would dance and sing in a circle, in the middle of which was
the altar to Dionysus. Over time the festivals started giving thanks to other themes, and eventually
had nothing to do with Dionysus or any god, but began to turn into classical Greek plays. (First

[7] Functions of Management Accounting Management accountants contribute to the company s
decisions about strategy, planning, and control, by scorekeeping, attention directing and problem
solving.[8] Scorekeeping: It refers to the accumulation of data and the reporting of reliable results to
all levels of management. Examples of scorekeeping are the recording of actual revenues and
purchases relative to budgeted amounts.[9] Attention Directing: Helping managers focus on
opportunities and problems. Attention directing means getting managers to focus on all
opportunities that would add value to the company and not to focus only on cost reduction
opportunities. An example is highlighting rapidly growing markets where the company may be
under funding its investment. [10] Problem Solving: It refers to the comparative analysis
undertaken to identify the best alternatives in relation to the organisation s goals. An example is
comparing the financial advantages of leasing a fleet of motorcycles rather than owning those
motorcycles.[11] Different decisions place different emphasis on these three roles. For strategic
decisions and planning decisions, the problem solving role is most prominent. For control decisions
(which include both actions to implement planning decisions and decisions about performance
evaluation), the scorekeeping and attention keeping and attention directing roles are most
prominent because they provide feedback to

  • 2. 1950 s Sociology The 1950 s saw a boom in the development of suburbs to counter the post World War 2 housing shortage problem as living in the suburbs offered an alternative to the overcrowded cities. This phenomenon coincided with the significant growth of the American economy, which granted the people stronger purchasing power to own a big house in the suburbs and the confidence to improve their socioeconomic status. Consequently, the suburban lifestyle came to be associated with strong familial ties and upward social mobility, which can be defined as the American ideals of the 1950 s. It is important to note that the media had a very significant role in shaping these ideals, mainly through situational comedies (sitcoms) on television and advertisement, both... Set in a wider context, these American ideals coincided with the Civil Rights Movement (1954) which sought to end racial discrimination and segregation, therefore highlighting how these ideals did not encompass Americans from all walks of life but only the white majority. • 3. Difference Between What Eatracker Recommends And What The... There is a slight difference between what eaTracker recommends and what the CFG suggests. The CFG is more lenient (7 8 and 6 7 for vegetables and Fruits, and Grain products, respectively) while eaTracker is more definitive for those values, 8 and 7 respectively. The values for milk and alternatives, and meatand alternatives is the same however, two for both. The difference might be due to the specific nature of eaTracker, it has my weight, height, specific age and gender, and my exercising habits, to gather data from while CFG only has my gender and age to narrow down recommendations from. Due to the difference in information eaTracker can be more specific as it is adjusted for me while CFG is made for the general public, relying on a lot of statistics to come to its conclusions (such as average height and weight of females in Canada). c) Unfortunately, I have not met the recommended intake by eaTRackers standard for any of the food groups making my diet inadequate. For fruits and veggies I could have had one more in order to meet the standard, I could include a cup of raw zucchini to sprinkle with my salad. For the grain products, I can consume 2.15 cups of rice. I was close to the recommended servings for the diary and alternative if I add 0.5 cup of milk I would meet my standard. • 4. Theme Of Death Of The Moth By Virginia Woolf The story by Virginia Wolf universally illustrates the struggle for life and death. It is a common phrase that death is inevitable the story shows the struggles with life that are not won in the end. In The Death of the Moth, Woolf observes a moth flying against a window pane, seemingly trying to get to the outside world, and not aware that the window pane is blocking its way. There is truth in saying the only commonality between lives is the inevitability of death. The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf explores this theme. Although the thesis is never formally stated, it can be interpreted to be that death is inescapable, and in spite of life being an uphill battle, it can never be won as eventually death claims us all. Taking into account Woolf s personal life, which was plagued with bouts of mental illnesses, ultimately resulting in her suicide; this essay could be considered a comparison between her own life and the moth s. This essay is intended for the general public, but it particularly resonates with women and minorities, this is because of Woolf s description of the moth s battles. In retelling the moth s struggles the audience develops a certain bond with the moth, this is amplified for people who have been repressed, as they can relate to the hardships this looked down upon moth has endured. The author has a pessimistic view on life and death which is manifested in the tone. Woolf is clear on her view that life is just one battle after another, and that ... • 5. Government Intervention And The Internet Government Intervention in the Internet A growing concern over our privacy online is causing us to seek legislation to protect us. Although this may seem harmless and beneficial for all, there are many valid points as to why the government should not intervene. When it comes to privacy online, the responsibility should be left in the hands of the people that disclose such information in the first place. Government involvement should not be allowed for the sake of our privacy, because it may come at the cost of being censored, losing technical expertise, losing innovation, and DE unifying the internet. Despite all this, many still argue in favor of government intervention. The majority of the reasons behind anyone that may argue in favor of government intervention is the added protection to our private information from criminals (Jason H.), and the vast amounts of explicit adult media that can be accessed by anyone, especially children. What many may not know is that these problems can be handled by the people. Many popular social and banking sites have effective countermeasures to protect the privacy of their users. Although these security systems are robust, the user should be wary that their information may be compromised if not handled correctly. Users should be careful about posting sensitive material on sites that are easily susceptible to security breaches. In this case, a woman was reported missing after she went to work and never returned home. After the police discovered a bloody pillow case in the woods, near her house, they linked it to the missing pillow case in the woman s room, and then realized that they had a murder case on their hands. A mystery in the case was that one of the local neighbors had mentioned seeing the woman leave through the front door of her house but the evidence says different, so investigators had to find out who left the house that morning. The iron from the hemoglobin in the blood causes luminol to glow, so a blue glow is produced when the solution is sprayed where there is blood. Only a tiny amount of iron is required to catalyze the reaction (Helmenstine, 2012). The use of luminol revealed that there were blood stains on the bed sheets and suspected that the woman was killed in her bedroom and that she did not go to work that day or leave the house. One major way Connecticut got its shape was from glaciation. For example, glaciation formed Jobs Pond. Jobs Pond is a giant kettle hole, which is a depression caused by the impact of a massive chunk of ice, or a glacier. According to The Mystery Of Jobs Pond, geologists and hydrologists the water level rises and falls with the groundwater level in the area, because porous sand and gravel make up the bottom of the pond. A kettle hole is formed by a glacier, so glaciation formed Jobs Pond. Another landscape formed by glaciation is recessional moraines. A recessional moraine is a pile of rocks left behind when a glacier recedes, or moves back. As a glacier moves, it picks up rocks in a process called plucking. This, in turn, will create oligopolies within industries and thus there will be little chance or incentive for competition (Galambos, 937 38). These literary movements can be compared and contrasted between two shorts stories, The Possibility of Evil by Shirley Jackson and A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner. For Modernism, these stories both show a break in traditional ideals involving the typical views of society. In relation to Gothicism the most obvious element is the confusion between good and evil; also, both of the protagonists in these stories are outcast within society, but the ways they became outcast differ vastly. Altogether, these similarities and differences of these elements connect the stories smoothly thanks to the purposeful use of literary movements. Modernism is/was a literary movement that was characterized by a disassociation with tradition and opposition of established societal views. • 23. The Physics of Archery Essay The Physics of Archery There are not many activities out there that relax and soothe me quite like shooting my bow. It is not as simple as it sounds though, just pulling on the string, releasing the string, and watching the arrow fly towards your target. There are a number of aspects that must be taken into consideration when trying to shoot a bow and arrow efficiently, this is where we will get into the physics of archery. There are two main things to consider when looking at archery and the physics concepts behind it. First there is the bow, which basically is a device that uses human force over a distance and converts that into stored Mechanical Potential Energy. The second factor involves that stored Mechanical Energy being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The materials that construct the Recurve bow must be taken into consideration when looking at the force applied from the bow. The most popular material for traditional archers today would have to be a certain type of wood from the yew tree. The reason for this particular choice of wood is that it contains the highest elastic energy storage per unit mass for any type of wood, which is around 700 Jkg 1. Which is very close to having the same rating as spring steel. However with technology these days more people are leaning towards a type of carbon fiberglass laminate. This particular combination brings both a lighter weight than wood and a higher elasticity rating. The reason some wood bows are still around is due to the fact the old timer traditional type archers shun using any kind of technology or advancements to aid them in shooting their bows. The material of the strings also needs to be taken into consideration, this is so because the string mass needs to be kept as low as possible for obvious reasons with efficiency and speed of the bow. Another thing to be looked at would be the Draw Weight or Draw Force of the bow, which basically is how much weight or force is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Capital punishment is one of these concerning issues. Most people hold an opinion, pro or con regarding the death penalty. Many people who favor the death penalty believe that capital punishment costs less money, reduces the amount of murderers, and fulfills the concept of justice. On the other hand people who disagree with capital punishmentbelieve that innocent people are often put to death, it doesn t fix the crimeperson committed, and it s a cruel punishment. They believe that it doesn t change the fact that crime the suspect committed can never be fixed. What s done is done, and it can t be taken back. Also different types of people like the mentally ill or juveniles get treated differently when it comes to the death penalty. Sick people and children should not be executed. How does Clint Eastwood, director of the film, Invictus, use the South African rugby team (the Springboks) as a vehicle to bring a troubled nation together? Clint Eastwood shows the change in the nation of South Africa in Invictus, using the Springboks as a vehicle. He starts the film with large amounts of separation, followed by the steady change in the middle of the movie, and finishing with the nation combined. In the beginning of the film, Clint Eastwood shows how separated black and white people are and how they do not get along, due to the change of the government and the Springboks. They begin to celebrate with the child and raise him up on their shoulders as if he were a mascot. Ironically, in the beginning of the film, the same child is seen refusing to wear a Springbok jersey. By using the same child in the beginning of the movie and towards the end, this shows the audience how the South Africans have changed their view on the Springboks. This acceptance of the Springboks showed the beginnings of a nation coming together. During the World Cup, the final game in the film, the scene occasionally cuts to shots of empty streets and empty houses. This technique shows that everyone is watching the game and that everyone is excited to see the outcome. Another thing Clint Eastwood did to show the black and white people combined is at the end of the movie. He used the world cup to symbolise the nation had been brought together. He did this by making Francois and Chester to both hold the World Cup up above their heads, showing the black and white hand together. • 42. The Three Stages Pre Decision Point Q3a) Q3b) I think that the HIPC approach is fair, as the process of the HIPC contains 3 stages, that are fair and possible to accomplish. The three stages pre decision point, decision point, and completion point are fair to decide if a country deserves help, and what kind of help it requires. Also, the fact that in stage two, the PRSP (poverty reduction strategy paper) makes sure that the countries that are in debt structure their spending and paying back properly to achieve paying their debts more efficiently. This initiative, in my opinion, is a good approach, as debt is relieved. Q5a) The conditions attached to multilateral aid from the world bank/IMF are serious, as they impact countries that borrow that money. These conditions include: Cut government services Sell government assets Boost cash crop production Allow foreign competitors to enter the market These conditions sometimes require countries in debt to stop funding education and healthcare, and start funding projects that require lender countries companies to build these projects. Aldo, the fact that the lenders benefit more from lending money to poor countries, as they get the money back in return as they have the power to control the countries in debt. Q5b) From the perspective of the citizens, devaluing the currency would be disastrous as the citizens assets are in that currency, as well as their life savings. For example, in Iraq, when the currency collapsed, people s savings were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Strain Gauges T.C.D| Measurement of Strain using Electrical Resistance Strain Gauges| 3B3 Mechanics of Solids| | Adam McCreevey| 3/15/2013| This is a laboratory to learn how to make measurements using a strain gauge by using different configurations, also to determine experimentally the axial and transverse stress at the surface of the beam and compare them to theoretical calculations| Introduction If a length of wire is subject to a stress within its elastic limits, the resulting elongation and change of diameter alters the resistance. The resulting principle is used in the resistance strain gauge, which consists of many turns of resistance wire, wound on an insulating former, the strain gauge wire is selected for the ... These are: 1. x=0, О”=0 2. x=l, О”=0 Using the first set of conditions we realise that: c2=0 Using the second set of condition we realise that: c1=ml2EI Subbing these into the full equation, we get: О”= mx22EI+mlx2EI Finally, we want to measure the deflection at a point where it is a maximum. Because this is a symmetrically loaded beam, the point where max deflection occurs is at the centre, where x=l/2. Subbing this into the equation we get: О”= ml28EI+ml24EI When calculating the experimental axial stress, we used the formula: Пѓaxial=E1 ОЅ2Г—Оµax+ОЅ.Оµtr When calculating Оµx, Оµy and П„xy using the rosette strain gauges, we use the following set of simultaneous equations: Оµ1= ОµxcosО±2+ОµysinО±2+П„xysinО±cosО± Оµ2= ОµxcosОІ2+ОµysinОІ2+П„xysinОІcosОІ Оµ3= ОµxcosП•2+ОµysinП•2+П„xysinП•cosП• Where Оµ1, Оµ2 and Оµ3 are the measurements from the rosette gauges and О±, ОІ and П• are the angles each strain gauge makes to the axis of the beam. When analyzing the mohr circle, we used an equation to calculate the centre of the circle, and an equation to calculate the radius of the circle. Here they are: c=Оµx+Оµy2 for the centre and : r=(Оµx+Оµy)22+П„xy22 for the radius of the circle. Method and Rig We used a rig which consisted of a beam which is symmetrically and simply supported on each

He maintained his health and fitness levels and was determined to keep swimming. Water is always nearby in the Baltimore, Maryland area, and most residents gravitate towards the water via boating and swimming. Phelps took a love of water more seriously and began to hone his swimming skills to become the best in Maryland. Soon after wishing to become the best in Maryland, Phelps set his sights on the Olympics. He began swimming at a high school pool and training at an aquatic club in Maryland. The coach could sense the fierce competition and skill Phelps portrayed in the water and began to work with Michael with intense training sessions. At age fifteen, Phelps was the youngest member of the Olympic American male swim team in sixty eight years. He did not win any medals at this Olympic Games, but he made the team, set a record, and left determined to try again. Michael Phelps had ample time to drop out of swimming, pursue other interests, or become discouraged. Religion was related to many everyday life tasks in ancient Greece such as festivals, initiations, and oracles. Religion was a very important subject and was something they used in their everyday lives. This is why, in my opinion ,religion had a high impact on Greek theatre. The religion of Greek people is an important aspect of the Greek culture. (Religion in GreeceSource:www.greeka.com) Greek religion was a form of polytheism, which meant that they believed in many deities. Because religion was not built around a book, they expressed it in many forms. Greek theatre was performed on many different occasions, including special occasions. The works of such great playwrights as Sophocles and Aristophanes formed the foundation upon which all modern theatre is based.(Ancient Greek theatre,Ancient history encyclopedia by Mark Cartwright July 14 2016) Greek theater is still one of the most important and long lasting theatrical influences in the world, and with some Greek plays still being performed to this day. Theatre became important to Greek cultures when it became a part of the festival honoring the god Dionysus (The god of wine and fertility). ( Greek Mythology in Theater by Bruce Tucker October 27, 2016) The theater festival was founded to bring unity among the Attican tribes.( Greek Mythology in Theater by Bruce Tucker October 27, 2016) Athens was the main center of these traditions. Everyone came to sing and dance in hope for a good harvest. At one point, a Greek named Thespis began to sing praises to the god, with others responding, which led to the actor and chorus. During the festival everyone would dance and sing in a circle, in the middle of which was the altar to Dionysus. Over time the festivals started giving thanks to other themes, and eventually had nothing to do with Dionysus or any god, but began to turn into classical Greek plays. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [7] Functions of Management Accounting Management accountants contribute to the company s decisions about strategy, planning, and control, by scorekeeping, attention directing and problem solving.[8] Scorekeeping: It refers to the accumulation of data and the reporting of reliable results to all levels of management. Examples of scorekeeping are the recording of actual revenues and purchases relative to budgeted amounts.[9] Attention Directing: Helping managers focus on opportunities and problems. Attention directing means getting managers to focus on all opportunities that would add value to the company and not to focus only on cost reduction opportunities. An example is highlighting rapidly growing markets where the company may be under funding its investment. [10] Problem Solving: It refers to the comparative analysis undertaken to identify the best alternatives in relation to the organisation s goals. An example is comparing the financial advantages of leasing a fleet of motorcycles rather than owning those motorcycles.[11] Different decisions place different emphasis on these three roles. For strategic decisions and planning decisions, the problem solving role is most prominent. For control decisions (which include both actions to implement planning decisions and decisions about performance evaluation), the scorekeeping and attention keeping and attention directing roles are most prominent because they provide feedback to ...
