Palestine and Israel Essay
Palestine and Israel
Our views of world conflicts such as war are influenced by the part of the world in which we live.
When exploring media coverage of discord, it is important to think about where the author is from and
how it has influenced the way he/she has portrayed disharmony. Reports on a world conflict can
express extremely different views depending on the social values and understandings of the writers.
One must read articles that address the issue of war with cultural relativism by taking into account the
local values and historical experiences of the writer. By neglecting this approach, a reader may be
persuaded to believe biased and often untrue facts. When researching the war in the Middle East, for
example, I found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Palestinians were convinced that this was a deliberate murder. Three days later a young
Palestinian picked up a stone from the ground and threw it at an Israeli patrol. His friends followed
this act and soon hundreds were throwing stones.
Palestinian intellectuals interpreted this action as an attempt of their youth to shake themselves free
from twenty dismal years of Israeli rule. This spontaneous uprising took most by surprise. For
generations Israel s domination of Jerusalem had gone largely unchallenged. The fighting continued
and the casualties that resulted were high. Most of the 1,300 deaths were Palestinians. In 1993 the
international community attempted to find a permanent solution by creating the Oslo agreement. Parts
of Jerusalem were officially handed over to the Palestinian self rule authority of Yasser Arafat while
the Israelis continued to control other sections. Despite the peace efforts the war is still raging strong
today. Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, and Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Barak, are now locked in the
worst shoot out in years. Judaism s holiest site and Islam s third holiest site are on the same rock in
Jerusalem. Arafat wants possession of al Aqsa mosque that lies in the same place as the Temple
Mount, a Jewish holy sight. Various solutions have been proposed but there seems to be no easy way
to divide the city between these two warring groups. The stalemate, that newspapers endlessly report,

Demonstrative Communication Essay example
Demonstrative Communication

Demonstrative Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages. These messages
exchange thoughts or information in a verbal or nonverbal, written or visual manner. Verbal
communication consists of oral and written messages, where nonverbal communication consist of
facial expressions, body posture, eye contact, and or hand gestures. Non verbal communication entails
communicating by sending and receiving wordless messages. These messages usually reinforce verbal
communication, can stand alone, and convey messages on its own (Nayab, 2011). The reinforcement
for non verbal communication is obtained by body movements, hand ... Show more content on

On the other hand if a person is enjoying the conversation he/she will move closer to the other person
or will gently touch the other persons hand or shoulder. * Pros of non verbal communication come in
the form of self expression, such as a business woman wearing a power dress and showing confidence
in every step she takes, thus allowing her to get respect without verbally asking for it. * Cons of non
verbal communication come in the form of lacking complexity. For example a person cannot
communicate the story of a particular day to a friend without using words, unless he/she took the time
to mime every detail. The message would still not be able to be conveyed accurately, for instance the
person trying to explain cannot non verbally that he/she had a chicken salad sandwich and orange
juice for lunch. Nonverbal communication cannot communicate complex facts or concepts (Sutton,
2011). In regards to the sender of a message, this person needs to ensure the message is taken exactly
as intended. In other words if the sender wants to non verbally express a job well done by his or her
employee than the sender should offer a friendly pat on the shoulder, with a soft or confident tone.
This will express a positive non verbal communication. On the other hand if the senders tone is harsh
and the hand gestures are inappropriate the employee will take offense and not feel like he/she did a
good job. A receiver of a non verbal message can

The Holocaust And Internment Camps
The Holocaust was the genocide of millions of people leading up to and during World War II. Adolf
Hitler, leader of the Holocaust, saw Jews as a threat to the German race after the country s defeat in
1918 and therefore, saw it necessary to capture and exterminate all of those of the Jewish faith. In
these years of the Holocaust, up to six million Jews were killed. Many Jews were held captive in
internment camps for years being nearly starved and forced to work till they were no longer needed
and killed. In 1944, the Allies began to take over the German s camps. The Soviets began to liberate
the Jews who had managed to survive the crucial camps. At the beginning of World War II, the United
Kingdom began to import most of their foods annually that would last their population of 50 million
throughout the year. It was one of the principal strategies of the Germans in the Battle of the Atlantic
to attack shipping bound for Britain, restricting British industry and potentially starving the nation into
submission. Due to shortages, the civilians of the United Kingdom were forced to ration their food.
They were given a ration book with coupons and had to register at chosen shops in order to buy the
rationed food. This made providing three full meals a day for your family nearly impossible for the
British. The Dunkirk evacuation was the evacuation of Allied soldiers during World War II from the
beaches and harbour of Dunkirk, in the north of France,

Jurassic Era Research Paper
The beginning of the Jurassic brought a new climate. The weather changed from arid, dry, and
seasonal to humid, hot, and stable. The weather allowed for lush jungles to flourish, and with the lush
jungles, the dinosaurs. The weather change was due to the supercontinent Pangea breaking apart. Two
new smaller supercontinents were formed, Gondwana and Laurasia. The supercontinents now had
more area that was touching the ocean. This meant the water from the ocean made the supercontinents
more humid than before. The dinosaurs thrived in this climate. New species are being discovered to
this day from the Jurassic Period due to the immense diversity amongst them. The species diversity
included three main dinosaur groups, the Sauropods, the Theropods, ... Show more content on

The main dinosaurs that died off were Sauropod dinosaurs, long necked, four legged dinosaurs, and
stegosauridae, class holding Stegosaurus. Other species that died include ammonites, similar to the
living animals called nautilus, many marine reptiles, and bivalves, relatable to modern mollusca. Not
much is known about this extinction. It is mainly linked to climate change. So far, no connection to
volcanic activity or an asteroid has been made. This extinction gave way to the Cretaceous Period. The
Cretaceous Period had a similar climate to the Jurassic, warm. The geography, however, was changed
a drastic amount from the previous period. The Earth had very high sea levels at this time due to the
lack of polar ice caps. The supercontinents Laurasia and Gondwana were breaking apart into the
continents that are the same in the present day. Although the continents were the same, they did not
yet look exactly the same. The continents will be further shaped by volcanic activity and tectonic plate
activity. The shaping of the modern era was under way. Many other animals besides dinosaurs lived
during the Cretaceous. These animals were very diverse and included pterosaurs, ancient flying
reptiles,

Theme Of Resilience In Defending Jacob
Resilience is defined as the quality that allows people to be knocked down and come back stronger
than ever. Resilience is demonstrated throughout the novel Defending Jacob by William Landay, and
the ancillary texts If by Rudyard Kipling, and The Third and Final Continent by Jhumpa Lahiri though
different literary devices. The similar conflicts of Defending Jacob and Third and Final Continent help
develop a theme of resilience throughout the stories. Another literary device that helps to show this
theme in Defending Jacob and If is point of view. Finally, the theme is displayed once more in the
novel and Third and Final Continent through the use of characterization. The theme of keeping one s
head through troubled times and not giving up is developed through the use of conflict, point of view,
and characterization in Defending Jacob, If , and The Third and Final Continent . Both William
Landay and Jhumpa Lahiri use conflicts in their stories to demonstrate the theme of resilience and
perseverance. William Landay uses the conflict of Andy s belief in his son and Lahiri uses the narrator
s will to be successful as those characters motivation to continue working for what they believe in.
Andy and Laurie s visit to Dr. Vogel shows the beginning of a conflict in Defending Jacob. So? So
what does shoplifting have to do with murder? What s the difference if he took a candy bar or
something from CVS? What on Earth does that have to do with Ben Rifkin being brutally stabbed to
death? (Landay 146). Andy Barber never once stops believing that his son is innocent, even after this
leads to fights with Laurie and could potentially lead to divorce. However he fights for Jacob and he
knows they will get through the trial. While Andy Barber s conflict and perseverance is more mental,
the narrator of The Third and Final Continent has a more physical conflict he must overcome. The
theme of resilience is also developed in this text when the narrator is telling his son about his life at
the end of the story. Whenever he is discouraged, I tell him that if I can survive on three continents,
then there is no obstacle he cannot conquer (Lahiri). These words of wisdom demonstrate resilience
because the

The Future Of Oppression In Black Mirror s San Junipero
The Future of Oppression Black Mirror s San Junipero is an episode that, on the surface, seems to be a
simple love story between two women, Yorkie and Kelly. They meet in the virtual town of San
Junipero, a town that feels very real, but is essentially a simulation where they can be uploaded when
they pass over , their consciousnesses permanently stored in the cloud, alive in the virtual town. Both
are still living but are close to death and are in San Junipero as tourists , allowed to test drive life in
the virtual town for a limited time. They fall in love and their whirlwind romance overcomes Kelly s
moral reservations about being uploaded and Yorkie s reservations of being out with her sexuality. It
also provides Yorkie a chance to live the life that she was denied because of the quadriplegia she
suffered from an accident following her parents poor reaction to her coming out, that paralyzed her
before she truly got to experience life. Hidden underneath the optimistic love story, however, are
levels that suggest that regardless of its invisibility in this story, the patriarchy is still very much in
control, symbolically oppressing them without even needing to be present. The episode was written by
Charlie Brooker, a white man, a paragon of privilege. Despite his privilege, Brooker s work always
comments on and critiques society s standards and future. By delaying the reveal of crucial plot
points, such as the fact that San Junipero is not a physical town, rather an advanced virtual reality,
merely hinting at it with a slow build, Brooker is able to hold the audience captive. Denying
information and providing clues allows viewers to uncover the truth for themselves, to speculate and
remain active watchers. The story may differ depending on the viewer because it truly depends on
what the viewer has been trained to search for in media and what their personal experiences and
history are. All in all, the surface level story is simple enough to pick up on. Even if viewers are not
attuned to Brooker s subtle metaphor, subtle subtext, they will be able to see the story of two women
falling in love in a virtual town. Those attuned to his style or to interpret within the context of
oppression will see another

Gambling In The Elizabethan Era
Gambling was a favourite past time in the Elizabethan era. Anther word for gambling is gaming.
Gambling is games that you bet money in the hope of winning more money back. These games ranged
from board, card and dice games.
Gaming/gambling were sometimes played in theatres such as the ones that Shakespeare s plays were
in. Other popular venues were gambling dens and houses.
Although the stereotypical gambler is a poor man spending his wages, Queen Elizabeth I did like to
play these sorts of games.
In the Merchant of Venice, some examples of gambling include: the merchant, Antonio, loans money

It is an Old English game that is played with two dice. Rule are as followed:
Any number of people can play, but only one player the caster has the dice at any one time.
In each turn, the caster chooses a number between 5 and 9 and this number is called the main. He then
throws two dice.
If he rolls the main, he wins (throws in or nicks).
If he rolls a 2 or a 3, he loses (throws out).
If he rolls an 11 or 12, the result depends on the main: with a main of 5 or 9, he throws out with both
an 11 and a 12; with a main of 6 or 8, he throws out with an 11 but nicks with a 12; with a main of 7,
he nicks with an 11 but throws out with a 12.
If he neither nicks nor throws out, the number thrown is called the chance. Then he throws the dice
again. if he rolls the chance, he wins. if he rolls the main, he loses (which is unlike on the first throw.)
if he rolls neither, it is still his turn, ( and keeps throwing,) until he rolls the chance or the main, with
winning with the chance and losing with the main.

Leaders And Their Organizational Influence
THREE LEADERS AND THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL INFLUENCE According to Manktelow
(2014), leadership styles refer to the frameworks that describe the main ways people lead. It is in a
person s best interest to study these leadership styles and use this knowledge to develop their own
style of leadership. There are five main types of leadership styles and leaders tend to fall into one of
them. This paper will look at three different leadership styles and famous leaders who are known for
those leadership styles. This paper will also compare and contrast these three leadership styles and
look at the author of this paper s understanding of leadership.
Leadership Style #1
According to Spears (2010), servant leadership seeks to involve others in decision making, is strongly
based in ethical and caring behavior, and enhances the growth of workers while improving the caring
and quality of organizational life. In the religious world, the Catholic Church has been riddled with
scandal and opulence over the years. There was a great need to change the course the Papacy was on
for the better. On March 19, 2013, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was inaugurated as
the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church. According to Macedonio (2013), the Pope showed his servant
leadership style even in choosing the name Francis, after St. Francis of Agassi, which was a sign of his
desire to promote simplicity, the protection of the poor, humility, and most important rebuilding the
Catholic Church. Pope

Change Blindness And The Field Of Human Sensation And...
Change blindness is a phenomenon in attention where drastic changes to a scene can go unnoticed.
This is important to the field of Human Sensation and Perception because it helps illustrate how a
visual scene is processed. Specifically it shows how even if there is direct attention to a scene, there
are times when drastic changes can occur without perception of the change occurring. With extensive
research already conducted illustrating this effect, new research has recently been conducted studying
different types of scene changes in the hopes of understanding which changes are easier or harder to
notice. The results of these studies were quantified by the measurement of change detection time
(usually reported in seconds). This subset of change blindness research has far reaching practical
applications, especially in the field of security and law enforcement. By applying the knowledge of
which type of stimuli lead to longer change detection times training programs could be developed that
allow this population to improve their observation skills.
Literature Review
A study conducted by Gusev, Mikhaylova, and Utochkin used the flicker paradigm as described by
Rensink et. al (1997) to observe the effect of different stimuli on change blindness. The different
stimuli studied were number of objects, object organization, object shape, appearance/disappearance
of an object, object shift, color change of an object, and increasing the interstimulus interval (blank

Egil s Saga Essay
The author most likely intended for Egil s Saga to be a historical documentation of Scandinavia, its
culture, and several of its inhabitants. The tale could also be seen as a folk tale, set in a realistic setting
with real people, but the events are skewed and not quite right. The epic accomplishes the first
possible intention through its many characters, the use known locations, and basing the majority of the
tale around two individual families that would have been well known around the time it was written.
However, the tale is not entirely accurate, which strengthens the idea that it was more of a folk tale.
Throughout the epic the audience is introduced to two families, beginning far before the birth of the
man who would attributed to the title. The tale then follows these families through the events that led
up to the main plot of the epic, going so far as to keep detailed track of who married who and where
each character came from. An example of this would be the detailed description of Olaf on page 168
in chapter 79. This introduction not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was due to most people being unable to read. Only those with enough money could afford to get
an education and learn how to read their own language. This meant that only a small portion of the
population would be able to read Egil s Saga. However, these educated individuals could read the
story aloud in Icelandic to a crowd. With this in mind the story was most likely spread primarily
through word of mouth. This is also shown through the style in which the piece was written.
Egil s Saga is quick paced and exaggerated, like a folk tale version of a family story. This stylistic
choice would keep an audience tuned in to the story and unsure of when to walk away from it. Each
chapter is filled with action and lacks any real downtime. Someone is always up to something that is at
least mildly exciting. This keeps most readers, or audience members, on their

4mat Book Review Of John P. Kotter s Leading Change
4mat Book Review, Leading Change by John P. Kotter
Lisa B. Steele
Lipscomb University
Abstract
According to Greek philosopher Heraclitus (2009), Change is the only constant . Understanding that
change is going to happen and how to deal with the change is essential for all leaders. John Kotter
reviews an eight stage process for creating major change in his book, Leading Change. Understanding
the difference between leading and managing is crucial for this process to have success. When one
leads, instead of manages, change takes place. Management is the processes of an organization. It is
the day to day structure that produces products or services. Good management is important for a
business to succeed, but it is quite different from leadership. Good leadership produces useful change.

A Strategic Planning And Management System Essay
Introduction
Organizations and industries today have undergone rapid and accelerating change, creating uncertainty
and complexity in the business environment. Markets are increasingly competitive and pressured to do
things faster, better and cheaper. They are challenged to develop new organizational characteristics
such as expertise and innovation in order to quickly respond to changes in technology and customer
preferences. Organizations can no longer rely on traditional analytical approach to understand their
industry. Nowadays, intangible assets are just as important as physical assets and the Balanced
Scorecard (BSC) is an innovative approach that considers the financial and non financial perspectives
in determining the performance level of an organization.
Question 1
The BSC is a strategic planning and management system designed to translate an organization s
mission and vision into a comprehensive set of objectives, performance measures and
implementations in order to achieve business goals. The BSC retains financial metrics as a measure
for company success, but supplements these metrics from three additional perspectives customer,
internal process, and learning and growth (Kaplan and Norton 1992, 1993). Financial data are
analyzed to understand financial performance of the organization. Customer feedback is used to gather
customer satisfaction on the products or services. Internal business processes are evaluated by
assessing quality, productivity and innovation.

these colonists were the Spanish and they colonized most of the southwest of the United States.
Evidence of their settlements can still be seen today in the missions scattered across the land. These
missions were started with the purpose of converting the Native Americans to Christianity. Now,
imagine living your entire life with a particular set of beliefs, based on your ancestors and culture, and
a group of foreigners come and proclaim that your views are all wrong and that you must follow their
beliefs for the salvation of your soul. This is exactly what the Spanish did to the Natives. The
relationship between the two parties were strained and rife with tension due to the conversion of the
natives and the constant abuse doled out by the Spanish. This subsequently led to the disintegration of
native life and culture.
Spain s initial contact with the Americas began when Christopher Columbus landed in Hispaniola
(present day Haiti and Dominican Republic) and sparked a wave of Spanish exploration and
colonization that lasted hundreds of years. Spanish colonization first started in South America and
gradually worked it s way up north mainly to Mexico, Florida, and most of the southwest of

Speech Destroying College Campuses
After recent violence activists arose in college campuses the culprit being unregulated speech. Many
campuses are forming regulations on speech codes on campuses, others choose to remain unregulated.
The decision is not put at ease with the first and fourteen amendment conflicting between the citizens
rights to freedom of expression, and the right for equal educational opportunities. Is there a middle
ground that allows individuals continue their education in the sanction of a college campuses while
not infringing on others right to speech? The possibility is there were we can decide what protected

But not if they liked Gore (Dolgow). The same cannot occur on a college campus, however the fear
remains on information on others can be used or freedom of expression in a college setting. The fact
remains that there is a substantial difference between a corporation and a university. Universities are
meant to be a place of learning and just like science is able to accept new theories, we should be
willing to accept new ideas. Building tolerance as a community allows us to embraces unpopular
ideas. That being said, there is very good reasons to protect offensive or unpopular speech. During the
1950 s, minority groups didn t have the right to vote and civil rights movements sprung across the
country. Voting right activists in the South experienced various forms of mistreatment and violence.
One such event on March 7, 1965, when peaceful participants in a voting rights march from Selma,
Alabama, to the state capital in Montgomery were met by Alabama state troopers who attacked them
with nightsticks, tear gas and whips after they refused to turn back ( Voting Rights Act ). One can
conclude based on the reactions, the decision to call in the state troopers and the state troopers
attacking the protestors, that these individuals found the protest offensive and threating their values of
white supremacy. Therefore, should we banned offensive or popular speech solely on the fact that
these speech may make some individuals feel uncomfortable or offended? Some

The Relationship Between Culture And Culture
Tóhaŋni waŋžíla iyápi iyóhi šni! In Lakota translation means one language is never enough. Language
can be viewed as a verbal expression of culture. It is used to support and carry culture and cultural
ties. Language provides us with many of the categories we use for expression of our thoughts, so it is
natural to assume that our thinking is influenced by the language. The principles and levies in the
country we grow up in shape the way we think to a certain extent. Culture is indistinguishable allied to
language. Without language, culture cannot be completely assimilated nor cannot be efficiently
expressed and transmitted. Both language and culture are unified that it is difficult to define the
limitations of language and culture, and whether language influences culture or vice versa. Exploring
the relationship between language and culture, we can generally agree that language and culture are
meticulously related.
To speak a language is to take on a world, a culture. (Frantz Fanon) Efforts to keep resources on
cultural heritage have gained new momentum throughout the world today. Different themes of culture:
shared, learned, symbolic, nature reciprocity, an integrated system, plays an adaptive role in human
survival, and dynamic and changeable. Culture is shared by its links us to groups both in the present
and in the past. In culture, there are many sides, which and all of them influence what is personally

A New Position As Director Of Industrial Operations
In November 1981, I began the new position as Director of Industrial Operations (DIO). There was
much work to do.: The bus availability was u, unacceptable, the Commissary had a terrible reputation,
and there was no security plan; important as the DIO was also the Security, Plans, and Operations

Community Shuttle Bus route that would take people from the housing areas to the Commissary. We
implemented both plans a week later. We advertised the new shuttle bus and I road it often to ensure

A Search For True Identity
In a search for true identity, it is impossible to look at purely just the mind or just the body because a
persons identity lies beyond the physicality of one s reality. Many different debates have left people
baffled when it comes to defining one s identity or self. Descartes and Ghost in the shell explore in
depth the means of their self. Descartes often speaks about mind and body dualism in his meditations
and that the mind is separate. However when you look at the mind and body separately, you are left
with a dilemma; Observing one or the other by itself doesn t really get you anywhere. All of the
knowledge we acquire throughout our lives are connected to some other known idea or concept.
During one of his meditations, Descartes mentions, Nor should I think that I do not perceive the
infinite by means of a true idea, but only through a negation of the finite. Just as I perceive rest and
darkness by means of a negation through motion and light (Descartes 6.46). It is impossible to
comprehend what the mind is by looking at it solely; you have to put it in comparison with what a
body means. You cannot comprehend what a mind is just like how you cannot comprehend what a
body is until you put them in contrast or comparison with each other. Another way of looking at it is
by considering it a struggle with the concept of what a consciousness is defined by. When it is brought
into question what the self is, it is also peering into the idea of an awareness past the material

A Brief Note On Design An Electric Vehicle
Introduction
Detail of Project
Introduction
The project is to design an electric vehicle that has to be road worthy and comfortable to drive off road
as well. We are doing These because it is the future of Automobile industry. These is fully ecofriendly
and these is one of the best solution to decrease the carbon emission in our environment. EV which we
are design is Fully built from Scratch, which is look like a Wheelie jeep. Because its roadworthy so
we have design this car under the concern of the New Zealand Transport rules and regulation. The car
is two doors with two Seating capacity. we have to make it lighter and off road drive so we choose the
poly carbonate shell material. The car is fully electrically automated with electric power steering and
some other feature. It also has an Electrical winch which is detachable at front or back. It is a four
wheel drive and with high torque and doesn t produce any excessive sound. The car has a AC motor as
drivetrain and the energy source for drive is a lithium Batteries which is highly efficient as compared
to other battery. We design good breaking system because electric motor has a very high acceleration
as compared to CI cars. EVS running cost is much lower and very less maintenance. It has a range of
80 km per charge and it can be charge in your garage 240 V plug socket. The money spent on the EVs
has reasonable and payback to us.

The Essence Of All Art
The essence of all art is to have pleasure in giving pleasure (Baryshnikov). Music and dance, whether

most civilizations have shared the practice of music and dance amongst other complimentary art

Psychoactive Drugs And Its Effects On Human Consciousness
A psychoactive drug is any substance that can be used to change brain function. This resulting change
is responsible for alterations in perception, mood, and consciousness. As long as man has had a basic
grasp on understanding consciousness they have tried delving deeper and deeper into their own
consciousness and not only grown a larger respect for just how deep they can go but have had
experiences that have encouraged them to go deeper. Rock paintings and fossil finds from as far back
as 10,000 years ago offer scientific evidence and proof of the extremely long and exciting history of
psychedelic drugs. Unfortunately it wouldn t be until the 20th century that we would actually start to
understand just how valuable and versatile these substances truly would be. From religious and
spiritual uses to medicinal and more, psychoactive drugs, particularly ones more in the realm of
psychedelics, are more important to learning and understanding our own consciousness than we can
even understand.
Terence McKenna, an American philosopher who focused on the nature of consciousness and the
relationship between consciousness and psychedelic drugs, was a firm believer that the nature of
consciousness and the evolution of man was all owed to the incorporation of psychedelic mushrooms
into the early mans diet. He believes that the psychedelics in their diet are what promoted self
realization and eventually prompted our earliest ancestors to develop language. Archaeologists credit

percent of their profits to provide for animals in need, while the other twenty six percent goes to the
organizing and management of the foundation. Oftentimes seventy percent of profits is just not

Being An American Man Essay
Philippines it was never below 75 degrees and the humidity was always almost at 100 making

order for protection, we had a German Shepard dog. This pet was trained to attack Philippine people.
We needed protection because where we were located, American women were safe, but they didn t

Humanism In Thomas More s Utopia By Thomas More
Thomas More writes Utopia, the comedic, fictional travel log about a no place society to discuss the
various religious, political, and social ideals influenced by humanism. A medieval classically trained
humanist, Thomas More is also influenced by the late medieval social, political, and religious
movements developing from the Plague and the Hundred Years War. In Utopia, More illustrates a
humanist society by discussing agriculture in the economy, religion and happiness, and the structure of
the government which was ultimately influenced by the late medieval ideals.
Thomas More elaborates on economy in his book Utopia comparing it to the economy in Europe. The
economy of Utopia is based on agriculture. Although agriculture is not a luxurious job, everyone has
to do it because it is a shared experience. One will not complete this task for more than two years
because everyone rotates in and out of the job. This is an example of humanism as the society
recognizes that individuals need relief. Human beings are not to be exploited, it is a joint effort as seen
through the idea of civic humanism; commoners are social utilities. In comparison to Utopia, the land
in England was owned by the lords. The farmers worked for the lords who eventually profited from
the land. Agricultural was a job for the poor, watched over by the wealthy. In Utopia, each city had its
own land, owned by the cities who then profit from the land. Therefore, they are not exploiting

DTCA Sales Promotion
Synapsis
Direct to consumer advertising of prescription medicines (DTCA) can be defined as an effort (usually
via popular media) made by a pharmaceutical company to promote its prescription products directly to
patients.[1] DTCA is prohibited in Canada, under two provisions in Food and Drugs Act, which is
enforced by Health Canada. Despite this prohibition, Health Canada currently allows two forms of
advertising that mention either the product (reminder ads) or the indication (help seeking ads), but not
both.[1,2] The United States and New Zealand are the only countries where direct to consumer
advertising, including full product claim ads, is legal.[1,2] The $395 billion US pharmaceutical
industry spent $5.2 billion on DTCA in 2015.[3]

According to an Apr. 2013 survey, 68% of doctors agree that prescription drugs are marketed before
safety profiles can be known.[3] In response to the Vioxx recall from the market in 2004, it was
proposed to institute a mandatory waiting period for new drugs before DTCA is being permitted. The
Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommended a two year advertising moratorium to conduct adequate
post marketing safety surveillance.[1] The same approach could be adopted as a policy in Canada, to
ensure patient safety, while promoting consumer empowerment by enabling them to participate in
informed decisions about their health care with their doctors.
Option 3: Mandatory Pre clearance of Drug Advertising by Health Canada
Drug advertisements should be reviewed and pre cleared by Health Canada in accordance with their
mandates. They have to contain a fair balance of information be provided to consumers,[4] and require
the disclosure of risks that are common and significant, as well as those that are rare but serious (for
example, paralysis or death). Health Canada could impose a fee for this service to be paid by the
pharmaceutical companies.

definition and the definition that probably came to your mind aren t actually the same thing. Over
time, the word cult has transformed from its original innocuous meaning to something a lot more
sinister. Though the negative use of this word has its time and place, overall the misuse of the word
cult creates problems that we need to work to change. What do you think of when you hear the word

The website dictionary.com defines a cult as a particular system of religious worship, especially with
reference to its rites and ceremonies. In the most general sense of the current definition, a cult is
merely a group that worships. Other sources have added their objective meanings of the word. Carter
quotes Roger Finke as saying that cults are religious groups that are not spin offs of other accepted
religions. This definition includes many world religions, regardless of size. It carries no negative
connotation, but instead classifies cults as a term for a certain origination of religion. Another
definition is a sharply bonded social group or diffusely bounded social movement ... held together
through a shared commitment to a charismatic leader (Lalich). This definition can stretch so far as to
include non religious groups. Atheism, agnosticism, even political movements and societies and clubs
can be considered cults. Once again, this definition carries no connotation, just the requirement of a
personable leader. The word CULT comes from the Indo European word kwel which meant to revolve
around something, sojourn together, and to dwell. These etymological meanings led to the traditional
definition of cult: to worship, which is not so far from the dictionary definition of today. Though many
other sources use qualifiers and details about the described groups, the true definition and the
traditional meaning of the term are both

Kenneth Fearing’s Dirge Essay
Kenneth Fearing s Dirge
Traditionally, dirges are composed in the form of a song or hymn of mourning as a memorial to a dead
person. The very definition suggests that the particular qualities of the dead individual deserve
recognition. The dirge is not just written for anyone, but for those deserving of glorification, who
survive in the memories of the living as testaments to the greater capacities of humankind. It is against
this traditional definition that Kenneth Fearing s poem, Dirge , is working, not only as an overt
commentary on the social, cultural, and political factors surrounding the destabilization of 1930 s
America but also as an abstraction of the prevalent views of reality: the dehumanization of the human.

In the first stanza, the third person semi omniscient speaking voice establishes the conclusive
paradigm of the poem: death by suicide. Though the death of the individual is a highly conventional
type of tragic presentation, the way in which this presentation is established in the Dirge is. The absent
function of any emotional signifiers is replaced by a parody of the numerical fluctuations of the stock
market. The unnamed man s death is never mentioned openly, and the circumstances resulting in his
death are highly trivialized. Consistent with the market allusion, the reader is left to speculate exactly
what sort of concrete events are occurring within in the first stanza. From the very start, the poem
challenges any threnodic conventions by disassociating the subject of death from the human subject.
Though in stark contrast to the first stanza in form, the two part second stanza continues with this
disconnect of death from the subject in the poem. Each part begins with an emotionally charged direct
address to a male subject using expletive language. The speaking voice is conceivably appealing to
both the functional presence of the dead man and every other man who fits into the category of the
executive type. This stanza uses a type of call and response form as a rhetorical commentary on the
nature of chance, a continuation of the stock market theme from

  • 2. Palestine and Israel Essay Palestine and Israel Our views of world conflicts such as war are influenced by the part of the world in which we live. When exploring media coverage of discord, it is important to think about where the author is from and how it has influenced the way he/she has portrayed disharmony. Reports on a world conflict can express extremely different views depending on the social values and understandings of the writers. One must read articles that address the issue of war with cultural relativism by taking into account the local values and historical experiences of the writer. By neglecting this approach, a reader may be persuaded to believe biased and often untrue facts. When researching the war in the Middle East, for example, I found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Palestinians were convinced that this was a deliberate murder. Three days later a young Palestinian picked up a stone from the ground and threw it at an Israeli patrol. His friends followed this act and soon hundreds were throwing stones. Palestinian intellectuals interpreted this action as an attempt of their youth to shake themselves free from twenty dismal years of Israeli rule. This spontaneous uprising took most by surprise. For generations Israel s domination of Jerusalem had gone largely unchallenged. The fighting continued and the casualties that resulted were high. Most of the 1,300 deaths were Palestinians. In 1993 the international community attempted to find a permanent solution by creating the Oslo agreement. Parts of Jerusalem were officially handed over to the Palestinian self rule authority of Yasser Arafat while the Israelis continued to control other sections. Despite the peace efforts the war is still raging strong today. Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, and Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Barak, are now locked in the worst shoot out in years. Judaism s holiest site and Islam s third holiest site are on the same rock in Jerusalem. Arafat wants possession of al Aqsa mosque that lies in the same place as the Temple Mount, a Jewish holy sight. Various solutions have been proposed but there seems to be no easy way to divide the city between these two warring groups. The stalemate, that newspapers endlessly report, is simply ... • 3. Demonstrative Communication Essay example Demonstrative Communication Sharon Weissman BCOM/275 August 8, 2011 Shalonda Lee Demonstrative Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages. These messages exchange thoughts or information in a verbal or nonverbal, written or visual manner. Verbal communication consists of oral and written messages, where nonverbal communication consist of facial expressions, body posture, eye contact, and or hand gestures. Non verbal communication entails communicating by sending and receiving wordless messages. These messages usually reinforce verbal communication, can stand alone, and convey messages on its own (Nayab, 2011). On the other hand if a person is enjoying the conversation he/she will move closer to the other person or will gently touch the other persons hand or shoulder. * Pros of non verbal communication come in the form of self expression, such as a business woman wearing a power dress and showing confidence in every step she takes, thus allowing her to get respect without verbally asking for it. * Cons of non verbal communication come in the form of lacking complexity. For example a person cannot communicate the story of a particular day to a friend without using words, unless he/she took the time to mime every detail. The message would still not be able to be conveyed accurately, for instance the person trying to explain cannot non verbally that he/she had a chicken salad sandwich and orange juice for lunch. Nonverbal communication cannot communicate complex facts or concepts (Sutton, 2011). In regards to the sender of a message, this person needs to ensure the message is taken exactly as intended. In other words if the sender wants to non verbally express a job well done by his or her employee than the sender should offer a friendly pat on the shoulder, with a soft or confident tone. This will express a positive non verbal communication. On the other hand if the senders tone is harsh and the hand gestures are inappropriate the employee will take offense and not feel like he/she did a good job. A receiver of a non verbal message can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adolf Hitler, leader of the Holocaust, saw Jews as a threat to the German race after the country s defeat in 1918 and therefore, saw it necessary to capture and exterminate all of those of the Jewish faith. In these years of the Holocaust, up to six million Jews were killed. Many Jews were held captive in internment camps for years being nearly starved and forced to work till they were no longer needed and killed. In 1944, the Allies began to take over the German s camps. The Soviets began to liberate the Jews who had managed to survive the crucial camps. At the beginning of World War II, the United Kingdom began to import most of their foods annually that would last their population of 50 million throughout the year. It was one of the principal strategies of the Germans in the Battle of the Atlantic to attack shipping bound for Britain, restricting British industry and potentially starving the nation into submission. Due to shortages, the civilians of the United Kingdom were forced to ration their food. They were given a ration book with coupons and had to register at chosen shops in order to buy the rationed food. This made providing three full meals a day for your family nearly impossible for the British. The weather allowed for lush jungles to flourish, and with the lush jungles, the dinosaurs. The weather change was due to the supercontinent Pangea breaking apart. Two new smaller supercontinents were formed, Gondwana and Laurasia. The supercontinents now had more area that was touching the ocean. This meant the water from the ocean made the supercontinents more humid than before. The dinosaurs thrived in this climate. It is mainly linked to climate change. So far, no connection to volcanic activity or an asteroid has been made. This extinction gave way to the Cretaceous Period. The Cretaceous Period had a similar climate to the Jurassic, warm. The geography, however, was changed a drastic amount from the previous period. The Earth had very high sea levels at this time due to the lack of polar ice caps. The supercontinents Laurasia and Gondwana were breaking apart into the continents that are the same in the present day. Although the continents were the same, they did not yet look exactly the same. • 9. Theme Of Resilience In Defending Jacob Resilience is defined as the quality that allows people to be knocked down and come back stronger than ever. Resilience is demonstrated throughout the novel Defending Jacob by William Landay, and the ancillary texts If by Rudyard Kipling, and The Third and Final Continent by Jhumpa Lahiri though different literary devices. The similar conflicts of Defending Jacob and Third and Final Continent help develop a theme of resilience throughout the stories. Another literary device that helps to show this theme in Defending Jacob and If is point of view. Finally, the theme is displayed once more in the novel and Third and Final Continent through the use of characterization. The theme of keeping one s head through troubled times and not giving up is developed through the use of conflict, point of view, and characterization in Defending Jacob, If , and The Third and Final Continent . Both William Landay and Jhumpa Lahiri use conflicts in their stories to demonstrate the theme of resilience and perseverance. William Landay uses the conflict of Andy s belief in his son and Lahiri uses the narrator s will to be successful as those characters motivation to continue working for what they believe in. Andy and Laurie s visit to Dr. Vogel shows the beginning of a conflict in Defending Jacob. So? So what does shoplifting have to do with murder? What s the difference if he took a candy bar or something from CVS? What on Earth does that have to do with Ben Rifkin being brutally stabbed to death? (Landay 146). Andy Barber never once stops believing that his son is innocent, even after this leads to fights with Laurie and could potentially lead to divorce. However he fights for Jacob and he knows they will get through the trial. While Andy Barber s conflict and perseverance is more mental, the narrator of The Third and Final Continent has a more physical conflict he must overcome. The theme of resilience is also developed in this text when the narrator is telling his son about his life at the end of the story. Whenever he is discouraged, I tell him that if I can survive on three continents, then there is no obstacle he cannot conquer (Lahiri). These words of wisdom demonstrate resilience because the ... • 10. The Future Of Oppression In Black Mirror s San Junipero The Future of Oppression Black Mirror s San Junipero is an episode that, on the surface, seems to be a simple love story between two women, Yorkie and Kelly. They meet in the virtual town of San Junipero, a town that feels very real, but is essentially a simulation where they can be uploaded when they pass over , their consciousnesses permanently stored in the cloud, alive in the virtual town. Both are still living but are close to death and are in San Junipero as tourists , allowed to test drive life in the virtual town for a limited time. They fall in love and their whirlwind romance overcomes Kelly s moral reservations about being uploaded and Yorkie s reservations of being out with her sexuality. It also provides Yorkie a chance to live the life that she was denied because of the quadriplegia she suffered from an accident following her parents poor reaction to her coming out, that paralyzed her before she truly got to experience life. Hidden underneath the optimistic love story, however, are levels that suggest that regardless of its invisibility in this story, the patriarchy is still very much in control, symbolically oppressing them without even needing to be present. The episode was written by Charlie Brooker, a white man, a paragon of privilege. Despite his privilege, Brooker s work always comments on and critiques society s standards and future. By delaying the reveal of crucial plot points, such as the fact that San Junipero is not a physical town, rather an advanced virtual reality, merely hinting at it with a slow build, Brooker is able to hold the audience captive. Denying information and providing clues allows viewers to uncover the truth for themselves, to speculate and remain active watchers. The story may differ depending on the viewer because it truly depends on what the viewer has been trained to search for in media and what their personal experiences and history are. All in all, the surface level story is simple enough to pick up on. Even if viewers are not attuned to Brooker s subtle metaphor, subtle subtext, they will be able to see the story of two women falling in love in a virtual town. Those attuned to his style or to interpret within the context of oppression will see another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is an Old English game that is played with two dice. Rule are as followed: Any number of people can play, but only one player the caster has the dice at any one time. In each turn, the caster chooses a number between 5 and 9 and this number is called the main. He then throws two dice. If he rolls the main, he wins (throws in or nicks). If he rolls a 2 or a 3, he loses (throws out). If he rolls an 11 or 12, the result depends on the main: with a main of 5 or 9, he throws out with both an 11 and a 12; with a main of 6 or 8, he throws out with an 11 but nicks with a 12; with a main of 7, he nicks with an 11 but throws out with a 12. If he neither nicks nor throws out, the number thrown is called the chance. Then he throws the dice again. if he rolls the chance, he wins. if he rolls the main, he loses (which is unlike on the first throw.) if he rolls neither, it is still his turn, ( and keeps throwing,) until he rolls the chance or the main, with winning with the chance and losing with the main. • 13. Leaders And Their Organizational Influence THREE LEADERS AND THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL INFLUENCE According to Manktelow (2014), leadership styles refer to the frameworks that describe the main ways people lead. It is in a person s best interest to study these leadership styles and use this knowledge to develop their own style of leadership. There are five main types of leadership styles and leaders tend to fall into one of them. This paper will look at three different leadership styles and famous leaders who are known for those leadership styles. This paper will also compare and contrast these three leadership styles and look at the author of this paper s understanding of leadership. Leadership Style #1 According to Spears (2010), servant leadership seeks to involve others in decision making, is strongly based in ethical and caring behavior, and enhances the growth of workers while improving the caring and quality of organizational life. In the religious world, the Catholic Church has been riddled with scandal and opulence over the years. There was a great need to change the course the Papacy was on for the better. On March 19, 2013, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was inaugurated as the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church. According to Macedonio (2013), the Pope showed his servant leadership style even in choosing the name Francis, after St. Francis of Agassi, which was a sign of his desire to promote simplicity, the protection of the poor, humility, and most important rebuilding the Catholic Church. • 16. Change Blindness And The Field Of Human Sensation And... Change blindness is a phenomenon in attention where drastic changes to a scene can go unnoticed. This is important to the field of Human Sensation and Perception because it helps illustrate how a visual scene is processed. Specifically it shows how even if there is direct attention to a scene, there are times when drastic changes can occur without perception of the change occurring. With extensive research already conducted illustrating this effect, new research has recently been conducted studying different types of scene changes in the hopes of understanding which changes are easier or harder to notice. The results of these studies were quantified by the measurement of change detection time (usually reported in seconds). This subset of change blindness research has far reaching practical applications, especially in the field of security and law enforcement. By applying the knowledge of which type of stimuli lead to longer change detection times training programs could be developed that allow this population to improve their observation skills. The tale could also be seen as a folk tale, set in a realistic setting with real people, but the events are skewed and not quite right. The epic accomplishes the first possible intention through its many characters, the use known locations, and basing the majority of the tale around two individual families that would have been well known around the time it was written. However, the tale is not entirely accurate, which strengthens the idea that it was more of a folk tale. Throughout the epic the audience is introduced to two families, beginning far before the birth of the man who would attributed to the title. The tale then follows these families through the events that led up to the main plot of the epic, going so far as to keep detailed track of who married who and where each character came from. An example of this would be the detailed description of Olaf on page 168 in chapter 79. This introduction not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This meant that only a small portion of the population would be able to read Egil s Saga. However, these educated individuals could read the story aloud in Icelandic to a crowd. With this in mind the story was most likely spread primarily through word of mouth. This is also shown through the style in which the piece was written. Egil s Saga is quick paced and exaggerated, like a folk tale version of a family story. This stylistic choice would keep an audience tuned in to the story and unsure of when to walk away from it. Steele Lipscomb University Abstract According to Greek philosopher Heraclitus (2009), Change is the only constant . Understanding that change is going to happen and how to deal with the change is essential for all leaders. John Kotter reviews an eight stage process for creating major change in his book, Leading Change. Understanding the difference between leading and managing is crucial for this process to have success. When one leads, instead of manages, change takes place. Those numbers dwindled down drastically in the years that Europeans came and started colonizing. The Europeans came to explore the New World in search of land, spices, gold, God and glory. Among these colonists were the Spanish and they colonized most of the southwest of the United States. Evidence of their settlements can still be seen today in the missions scattered across the land. These missions were started with the purpose of converting the Native Americans to Christianity. Now, imagine living your entire life with a particular set of beliefs, based on your ancestors and culture, and a group of foreigners come and proclaim that your views are all wrong and that you must follow their beliefs for the salvation of your soul. This is exactly what the Spanish did to the Natives. The relationship between the two parties were strained and rife with tension due to the conversion of the natives and the constant abuse doled out by the Spanish. This subsequently led to the disintegration of native life and culture. Many different debates have left people baffled when it comes to defining one s identity or self. Descartes and Ghost in the shell explore in depth the means of their self. Descartes often speaks about mind and body dualism in his meditations and that the mind is separate. However when you look at the mind and body separately, you are left with a dilemma; Observing one or the other by itself doesn t really get you anywhere. All of the knowledge we acquire throughout our lives are connected to some other known idea or concept. During one of his meditations, Descartes mentions, Nor should I think that I do not perceive the infinite by means of a true idea, but only through a negation of the finite. Just as I perceive rest and darkness by means of a negation through motion and light (Descartes 6.46). It is impossible to comprehend what the mind is by looking at it solely; you have to put it in comparison with what a body means. You cannot comprehend what a mind is just like how you cannot comprehend what a body is until you put them in contrast or comparison with each other. As long as man has had a basic grasp on understanding consciousness they have tried delving deeper and deeper into their own consciousness and not only grown a larger respect for just how deep they can go but have had experiences that have encouraged them to go deeper. Rock paintings and fossil finds from as far back as 10,000 years ago offer scientific evidence and proof of the extremely long and exciting history of psychedelic drugs. A medieval classically trained humanist, Thomas More is also influenced by the late medieval social, political, and religious movements developing from the Plague and the Hundred Years War. In Utopia, More illustrates a humanist society by discussing agriculture in the economy, religion and happiness, and the structure of the government which was ultimately influenced by the late medieval ideals. Thomas More elaborates on economy in his book Utopia comparing it to the economy in Europe. The economy of Utopia is based on agriculture. Although agriculture is not a luxurious job, everyone has to do it because it is a shared experience. One will not complete this task for more than two years because everyone rotates in and out of the job. This is an example of humanism as the society recognizes that individuals need relief. Human beings are not to be exploited, it is a joint effort as seen through the idea of civic humanism; commoners are social utilities. In comparison to Utopia, the land in England was owned by the lords. The farmers worked for the lords who eventually profited from the land. The speaking voice is conceivably appealing to both the functional presence of the dead man and every other man who fits into the category of the executive type. This stanza uses a type of call and response form as a rhetorical commentary on the nature of chance, a continuation of the stock market theme from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
