Veno Anonymous Snakes Research Paper
Venomous snakes are known as rich sources of toxins among venomous animal species. Snakes
venoms are complex chemical mixtures of pharmacologically active compounds such as enzymes,
peptides and proteins with specific chemical and biological activities (Ménez et al., 2006, Jiminez
Porras, 1968), in addition to non protein components such as carbohydrates, lipids and metal ions.
Snakes venoms are mostly reputed for their neurotoxic substances, which induce paralysis and death,
and hemotoxic substances that have hemorrhagic effects (Greene, 1997, Jiminez Porras, 1968). In that
respect, in many parts of the world especially in tropical and subtropical countries, snakebites are
considered as serious health concerns (Harrison et al. 2009). According

What Is The Mood Of The Poem Jabberwocky
Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll Jabberwocky is an adventurous short poem about a boy who slays a
beast. The poem is comprised of many words that are inexistent. Many of the words are combinations
of two existing words combined together to create a new word that gives the reader a more vivid
image. An example is the word slithy which is a combination of the words slimy and lithe. The poem
also features mythological figures of the author s imagination. This also adds to the enjoyment of the
reader because the readers have to imagine for themselves what the creatures look like with no
background knowledge. One example is the Tumtum tree. An actual Tumtum tree does not exist, so
the reader has to imagine what it would look like to them. Also, the rhyme scheme makes the poem
pleasant for listening. Lewis Carrol mixes real and inexistent words in each stanza to create a rhyming
pattern. The adventurous mood, the made up words, the creatures. and the rhyme scheme all work
together in this poem with the plot to create a fun short poem. To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time

In this poem, the way the author wants the reader to seize the day is to get married. The first paragraph
uses symbolism to compare aging to a flower that is wilting. Flowers are also commonly used as
symbolism for virginity, which furthers the author s theme of getting married and subsequently losing
one s virginity. While the theme can be about love, and virginity, and marriage, the general idea of the
passage is seizing the day, which can be interpreted differently by every person. The idea is to find
happiness and joy and live in the moment and whether or not that is found through love or not is up to

Debt Is Bad
Debt is simply money that is owed, and it can be very dangerous to get into. Many people, even rich
people can go into massive amounts of debt and be nearly unable to escape it and get all of their
money paid back. Debt can include things like loans for credit cards and other things, such as loans
taken out to pay for things that current cash reserves can t pay for. A lot of celebrities have gone into
debt, and I will be explaining one celebrity s debt; Kanye West. On February 13th Kanye announced
that he was approximately $53 million in personal debt.
The news was delivered on his Twitter where he made multiple tweets in which he somewhat vaguely
explained the situation. He mainly blames the debt on issues with being successful in the fashion

Weaknesses And Strengths Of Plato s View On Democracy
In the era of the contemporary United States, a country that has had the longest standing democracy,
we are used to thinking very highly of its system. However, throughout our history, there have been a
couple of critics to the system of democracy. It comes as no surprise that democracy does have its
issues. One of the first pieces of literature where democracy was mentioned and analyzed at a deeper
level was The Republic by Plato. This ancient Greek philosopher did not completely agree with
democracy, regardless of the fact that ancient Athens was the first civilization that gave rise to it. In
fact, in a numerical list that he composes on which are the best ways of ruling, Plato puts democracy
at one of the lowest levels. In order, Plato s list of types of government from most desirable to least
desirable looks like this: 1.) Republic (The ideal city) 2.) Timocracy 3.) Oligarchy 4.) Democracy 5.)
Tyranny. Additionally, In The Republic, Plato tells us his beliefs and values on certain aspects of life
through the eyes of Socrates. So, even though Plato himself does not appear in The Republic and
instead Socrates does, nonetheless, Plato and Socrates shared the same ideology when it came to
democracy. As we know, Plato did not agree with democracy. As a result, in this paper, I will explore
the greatest intellectual strengths and weaknesses of Plato s view on democracy. First, a democracy is
a form of government in which the supreme power is handed to the people

The Legacy Of Abraham Cahan
Jews have been lashed out on, time and time again throughout history, but one man who saw this
hatred for Jews first hand and tried turning the tables, was a man by the name of Abraham Cahan. He
is known as being the first prominent writer to emerge from the biggest wave of Jewish immigration
from Russia, but he was much more than just a writer. He was an editor and critic of several New York
newspapers, a sociologists reformer, and a teacher of English to many Jewish immigrants following in
his footsteps. Cahan valued his Jewish religion, but not only that, he valued language and in particular
English and Yiddish which he wrote in. He believed in telling the story of immigration through fiction
which he did in his literature, by taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is just one battle in a continuous war against maintaining his religion, but he had a changing
world around him tearing him apart from it. In this constant war, he ends up having to flee Europe in
particular Russia, because he gets tangled in a mess involving an assassination attempt of the Czar.
This journey leads him to America, where he is first greeted by the Statue of Liberty at Ellis Island.
When Cahan came to America many things changed for him, he was forced to leave behind his old life
and try his hardest to assimilate himself into American culture. He left behind many aspects of his
culture, but was still able to continue on with many of them. One piece of his life that was hardest to
maintain was his language. Although he held onto Yiddish, Russian, and Hebrew, he immediately had
to learn English which soon became a large part of his career and what made him so astounding.
America is said to be the home of the free, and this is what so many immigrants desired when coming
to America, and Cahan was no exception. He was a tremendous aid to those immigrants by devoting
the first years of his life in America to teaching English. While doing this, he also lectured and wrote
articles on Jewish life in the city for countless New York magazines. Within these articles he answers
many questions on tough arguments, mostly circled around religion. An example of one

Alice G. Martin s Game Of Thrones
For nearly six seasons now, Americans have sat, captivated, in front of their television screens on
Sunday evenings, while men fought to the death for a throne, for honor, women, family and
vengeance. They have watched a timid young girl become a queen. The illegitimate son of a Northern
noble house has risen through the ranks, only to be assassinated, and brought back from the other side.
Viewers have watched their favorite characters be executed, persecuted, prosecuted, raped,
assassinated, maimed, humiliated and murdered. They have yelled at their television screens, cried for
the beloved characters that have been lost, and cussed and swore they would never watch it again. Yet,
next Sunday rolls around, and there they are, planted on the couch, nervous with anticipation over who
we may lose, or who may be victorious this week.
This show that has caused viewers such anguish and intrigue is Game of Thrones, the hit HBO series
based on George RR Martin s book series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Game of Thrones is one of the ...

Alice G. Walton of Forbes Magazine has some ideas about what it is that keeps viewers coming back.
Walton claims that there are the obvious hooks of swordfights, sex, nakedness and overall intrigue.
These elements combine with the fantasy aspects, such as Daenerys s dragons and Melisandre s blood
magic, to create a type of make believe escapism for viewers. This obviously is not the same type of
make believe escapism that children experience with Disney, however. Game of Thrones runs deeper
and offers more to viewers than just this escapism. It forces them to become intimately acquainted
with the characters by teaching their histories, their struggles, failures, accomplishments, and their
motivations and then it twists and shows viewers that they really have no idea what is going on. It is
this manipulation that is one of the major aspects that makes this show

Theme Of Morality In Trifles
Ethics and morals are two different things although quite similar. Ethics relate to the essence of right
and wrong according to the law. This is exhibited in the pre meditated murder that we see in the play
Trifles. Morals are related to personal standards. What may be morally right for one person may not be
morally right for another person. Morals are based on a person s upbringing, their religion, and their
personal beliefs. In Trifles, Sweat, and The Storm, Susan Glaspell, Zora Neal Hurston, and Kate
Chopin use symbolism to show, develop, and illustrate the theme of ethics versus morals. Susan
Glaspell uses the bird to justify the murder of Mr. Wright in Trifles. Within the play there is a broken
bird cage. This cage is symbolic of Minnie Wright s marriage. She lives in the middle of nowhere with
John. This isolation breaks Minnie Wright s spirit, just like the cage is broken. In the story it says, She
used to sing real pretty herself (986). Since Minnie is out in the country with no one but John, that bird
is her lifeline to the outside world. She lives through that bird. John s oppression of Minnie, and the
fact that he cold heartedly killed her bird takes away her desire to sing, or dance, or dress pretty.
Arthur Waterman states She was figuratively strangled by John (3). In turn, Minnie literally strangles
John with a rope in his sleep. The women don t always find this action morally or ethically right. Mrs.
Peters, in the beginning, said But, Mrs. Hale, the law is the law (Glaspell 984). After finding out about
the bird, and pondering the situation among themselves, the women all agree with Minnie Wright. It
was justifiable homicide in their eyes, thus making it ethically and morally right in their eyes. Hurston
s Sweat uses the snake as symbolism, and to justify Delia s actions after Sykes is bitten. In the story,
Delia is a faithful Christian woman who is married to a devil like man named Sykes. Hurston
associates the snake to Sykes. The snake symbolizes Sykes representation of the Devil. Sykes knows
that Delia is scared of snakes. Delia tells Sykes, You know how skeered Ah is of snakes. Course Ah
Knowed it (1). Sykes not only torments Delia, he also cheats on her openly. Sykes does

Dr. Mohler s Tribute to Nelson Mandela
On Thursday the 5th of December, former president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize winner
Nelson Mandela passed away. My purpose today is not to write a tribute to this man as more capable
men have already done this. The best one I have found so far is Dr. Mohler s and you can read it here.
As I write this I am watching the memorial service of this historical figure. Since his death I have read
many articles and statuses spread across social media platforms. What has been most saddening is the
reaction from certain quarters of Christianity.
When some see Mandela, all they see is a communist terrorist who to some degree has been part of a
secret white genocide plan; an interfaith, liberal, corrupt leader; a champion of abortion and ... Show

If you are not filled with indignation you won t have the courage to do what he did. And if you are
only filled with indignation you won t have the gentleness and the care to get into people s questions,
to understand them, they won t feel respected, they will tune you out
Paul was neither obnoxious nor cowardly. He was filled with holy loving jealousy. We are not. We are
either to afraid to open our mouths, too cowardly, or when we do we are obnoxious. How do we
overcome that? The answer is this, Paul told the Corinthians that when he first came to them, he was
filled with fear and trembling, and he resolved to know nothing but Christ and Him crucified when he
was among them . Anybody who says they are a Christian but are harsh or condemning, the problem is
not that they are too fanatical about the gospel, it s that they are not fanatical enough... because the
real gospel, is the only place where we see a God who is not more fundamentally holy than loving.
Anybody that understands the real gospel, is turned into someone who is both thundering and tender.
What did Paul feel? Holy Jealousy, deep complexity, indignation and compassion. He didn t start by
railing against the flagrant idolatry. No, he found a point at which to connect with the people, and
show them the true God.
All of this to say, that responding to so called idolatry by calling it out and making self righteous
statements is not conducive to the gospel message spreading, and it is not exampled for

about how Earth was formed and others are nature related. But most of the unexplained news is about
the aliens . Questions of where aliens came from? Why they are visiting our planet? Will they invade

Many conspiracy theorists say that they have proof that aliens do visit and live on our planet. Some of
these proofs are the Madonna and Child painting, the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Nazca Lines, and
others. And just recently, another buzz of aliens stopover was seen by many circling around their area.

Impact Of The Renaissance
Whenever I think about the renaissance, I think of the of the dark ages. The Renaissance was a period
in European history, that took place during the 14th through the 17th century. Accordant Leonardo da
Vinci he describes the culture of the Renaissance as the cultural bridge between the Middle Ages .
Renaissance started in Italy during the period of medieval, then it slowly spread throughout Europe.
The term Renaissance over the years, has become synonymous with ideas of expanding, rebirth and
cultural expansion. To begin with, a renaissance is a revolution of the rebirth of ideas within a country

In Italy, the humanist educational program won rapid acceptance and, by the mid 15th century, many
of the upper classes had received a humanist education. Some of the highest officials of the Catholic
church were humanists with the resources of a mass important library. The much humanist effort went
into improving the understanding and translations of the biblical and early Christian texts. According
to the American Humanist Association, define humanism as is a progressive life stance that, without
supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead meaningful, ethical lives capable of
adding to the greater good of humanity.
The romantic music movement was an intellectual movement that originated in the second half of the
19th century in Europe, that strengthened in reaction to the industrial revolution. It was a revolt
against social and political norms of the ages of enlightenment. The romantic music movement was
embodied most strongly in the visual art, music, and literature, but had a major impact on history and
education. In the romantic period, music became more expressive and emotional, expanding to
encompass literary, artist, and philosophical themes. During the romantic period, music often took on
a much more nationalistic purpose. During the late 19th century there was a dramatic expansion in the
size of the orchestra and the diversity of instruments used in this ensemble. The public concert became

Essay on The Principle of Separate Corporate Personality
The Principle of Separate Corporate Personality
The principle of separate corporate personality has been firmly established in the common law since
the decision in the case of Salomon v Salomon Co Ltd[1], whereby a corporation has a separate legal
personality, rights and obligations totally distinct from those of its shareholders. Legislation and courts
nevertheless sometimes pierce the corporate veil so as to hold the shareholders personally liable for
the liabilities of the corporation. Courts may also lift the corporate veil , in the conflict of laws in order
to determine who actually controls the corporation, and thus to ascertain the corporation s true
contacts, and closest and most real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The veil of incorporation can be described as being the separation between a company and its
members. Due to the separate legal status of a company from its members this is usually very strictly
maintained. However, there are certain circumstances when the courts will deny the people who run
the company the advantage of hiding behind the corporate veil. In these instances the veil of
incorporation is said to be pierced or lifted , i.e. the barrier between a company and its members is
removed so there is no legal separation between them. There instances are however, difficult to predict
as the reasons depend on the judges interpretation of fairness or policy or of how a particular statute
should be interpreted.
In the leading case of Salomon v Salomon Co Ltd, Salomon incorporated his boot and shoe repair
business, transferring it to a company. He took all the shares of the company except six, which were
held by his wife, daughter and four sons. Part of the payment for the transfer of the business was made
in the form of debentures (a secured loan) issued by the company to Salomon. Salomon transferred the
debentures to Broderip in exchange for a loan. Salomon defaulted on payment of interest on the loan
and Broderip sought to enforce the security against the company. Unsecured creditors tried to put

Microbiota Controls The Homeostasis Of Glial Cells
Cristiaan Ciarlo
Bio 328
Summary: The article titled: Microbiota Controls the Homeostasis of Glial Cells in the Gut Lamina
Propria assessed the varying conditions in which Microbiota within the developing digestive tract can
influence the process of network formation of the certain aspects of the enteric nervous system. The
enteric nervous system (ENS) is the aspect of the digestive system endowed with its own nervous
system (Bowen 2006). As far as the article is concerned, there were three important biological findings
presented in the article concerning the ENS.
The first was that glial cells, under situations that are comparable to environmental, aggregate in the
lamina propria during early stages of development after birth. The second finding was that this
population of glial cells undergoes a regenerative cycle throughout the life of the organism. This
occurs in a specific region of the gut. The final finding was that this early stage development and
subsequent regeneration throughout the life of the organism depends on the microbiota presented to
the gut. The Microbiota, as they are referred to in the article, are part of an enormous array of
microbes which colonize the body (Baily, Gur, Worly, 2015). Therefore it can be understood that the
gut microbiota are the microbes of the body that inhabit the gut. These seem to be part of the primary
focus in the article.
The article noted that there were questions that arose regarding the development of this specific

What makes us who we are? Well, this is a broad question, but a lot of different factors impact us on a
way we might not understand until the time is right. The motivation and goals we set for ourselves,

Speech Persuasive Speech Comparison
Speech Comparison #2 Ted Talks is a treasure trove of information, capable of providing anyone with
a mountain of information on whatever might interest them. It is different to many other sources in
regards to how that information is given out, this being the way most all their videos are of people
giving speeches. Given the vast collection of speeches on the site, we can find many a great
performances where it is obvious that the speaker had a great effect on the audience and also where
the audience wasn t very much influenced. On the topic of aging and general health, there were two
speeches by Aubrey de Grey s and Dan Buettner, and we will be comparing these two speeches
together No great speech can be created without a good hook. Unfortunately, it seems like neither of
them really created a great hook. They failed to really capture the attention of the audience and reel
them in. Both introductions had weak hooks, but they made it so that you at least knew what the
speakers were going to talk about and what direction they re going to take with their speeches. Despite
both intros being weak, Aubrey de Grey s introduction was clearly weaker. Grey did not have any
hook whatsoever. Instead, he told the audience that he was strapped for time and that he would need to
dive in right ahead. Buettner on the other hand, at least tried to create a hook by starting off with a fact
that not many people would know. It was weak, but better than nothing. The hook is out of the way
and next is fluidity for the introduction. Bueller makes it easy for the audience to follow along with
what he s saying. His use of transitive words guides the audience and it makes it easy to follow along.
This along with his pleasant tone and flow makes it easy to pay attention. A stark contrast to Grey s
speech. Grey at times became quite hard to follow due to his near monotonal voice and the speed at
which he spoke. It was hard to follow what he was saying and often times I ended up lost, missing
quite a bit of the information that he was giving out. At one point, I even checked that I had not
accidentally changed the video s speed because of how fast it was going. This combined with the lack
of any real hook, made it very hard to pay

How Did Buddy Holly Influence The 1950 s
Charles Hardin Holley, also known as Buddy Holly, was one of the most significant and influential
rock n roll icons of the 1950 s even though he only ever had one chart topping single. Holly s musical
legend was one of many firsts: First rock n roll performer to insist on artistic control over his material
and to write/arrange his own songs and supervise his studio sessions. First to master the technical parts
of recording including echo, double tracking and overdubbing (he recorded his own voice and guitar
playing). First to add classical stringed instruments in rock music. First to ditch the pretty boy looks of
most 1950 s performers for a more intelligent, slightly geeky look, and the first rock musician to
attract not only a female, but also a male audience.
Singing Style
Holly had a unique singing style which featured stretched syllables and high energy. He broke the
typical rock practice by singing ballads with a feeling of nervous excitement, said Arnold Shaw in The
Rockin 50s. Buddy took a ballad of woeful words and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Broken Promises
Broken Promises Nebraska was home to many Native Americans, including the Ponca tribe, who took
great pride of their homeland. Many people think the Ponca tribe was once a part of the Omaha,
Osage, Kansa, and Quaqaw tribe. These five tribes lived in an area east of the Mississippi River. No
one knows the exact date of their separation or why they had separated, but it was believed to be as
early at 1390, and as late as 1750. The Ponca tribe was never a very large tribe. In 1789 the Ponca was
living near the mouth of the Niobrara River. Around this time, the tribe took a fall and had suffered
from a smallpox epidemic. When Lewis and Clark had arrived, they only averaged them with 200
people in 1804, but by 1874, they were back up to 733 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the Sioux figured out that they now had a chance to push the Ponca s out of Indian Territory, that
s just what they did. They took their crops, horses, and gave many threats towards them. The third
most famous war called the Great Sioux war began in 1876. Although the U.S. government had won
the war, it still didn t mean they would stop pleasing the Sioux. The U.S. government gave what was
left of the Ponca land to the Sioux. The treaty they made with the Ponca s was completely broken.
They cheated the Ponca Indians, and they were furious. In January 1877, Edward C. Kemble asked the
Ponca s to let him speak during church service. He told them that the government had given their
fields and farm to the Sioux for a greater purpose. He also told them that they be getting new virgin
lands in Indian Territory (present day Oklahoma). By this time the there only 738 Ponca Indians in the
tribe, which meant they were not much of a force to the federal government. On February 2, 1877 the
Ponca trail of Tears began. Edward C. Kemble, Standing Bear, and nine other Ponca leaders went to
the Osage reservation in Indian Territory to pick a spot for the new Ponca Reservation. Standing Bear,
White Eagle and the others were not impressed by the bad soil, heat, and the humidity. They told
Kemble that they weren t going to bring their people to this land, and they wanted to go back home.

The Abjection Stage And The Narcissistic Stage
These are the Chora stage, the Abjection stage and the Narcissistic stage. The Chora stage covers the
first six months of an infant s life. It is a pre linguistic stage where the infant is dominated by a chaotic
mixture of acuities, feelings and needs. It is also a stage when the infant is oblivious about the need to
distinguish itself from its mother or the world around and is fully dependent on its mother for the
gratification of its desires. This stage is followed by the stage of Abjection which occurs from 4 8
months of age. The infant at this stage becomes conscious of the differences between self and m/other
and in a bid to develop the contours between self and m/other separates itself from the mother.

Now the child has a clear perception of the subject, object and the abject. The subject (child) submits
himself to the prevailing rules and customs of the society, the object (other) opposes the subject and
disturbs the smooth run of things whereas the abject threatens the very identity and wholeness of the
subject. Objects can lead to either or both fascination and repulsion. When an object is on the verge of
destroying the subject s existence, it becomes an abject i.e. something to get rid of. In a similar
manner an abject becomes an object, when it is no longer a serious threat to the subject s hegemony
over its own self. In the Symbolic realm or the linguistic stage the child is further separated from a
connection with the mother as language itself finds meaning within its own internal logic of
differences. For example the meaning of the word hot is understood only when we deduce the
differences while comparing it with the word cold . Expanding upon this concept of abjecting or
differentiating ourselves from others, Kristeva further contends that all acts of abjection or creating
borders between the subject and the abject at the level of individuals, communities, states, nations etc.

The Mythical Man Month By Frederick P. Brooks Jr. Essay
Introduction This paper will be used to present one of the project problems mentioned in the text of
the book The Mythical Man Month by Frederick P. Brooks Jr. In addition, I will present my answers to
the questions about the intangibility of the software and the increasing cost connected with higher
reliability requirements. The last part presents my views which dependability attributes could be most
crucial in four real life systems. Body Question 1: Using The Mythical Man Month reading found on
the course homepage, read the project problems mentioned in the text. List the difficulties and errors
that occurred in these failed programming projects. One of the project problems mentioned by Brooks
Jr. in Chapter 12 of his book The Mythical Man Month is the problem with program maintenance.
According to him fixing a bug has around 20 to 50% chances of introducing another one. As
explanation he shows two reasons: first one is that in most of the projects the structure of
documentation in not clear, precise and does not describe all dependencies that exist in the system and
second is that the programmer who is repairing the system is typically not the same as the one who
composed the code at development (Brooks Jr., 1995). So in order one project not to fail there should
be more system testing per statement written then in the other cases. Brooks suggest that after fixing
each bug an entire bank of previous test cases should be run against the system (Brooks Jr., 1995). But

The Shean Use Of Sleep In Shakespeare s Sonnet 27
Shakespeare s Sonnet 27 describes how despite the speaker s physical exhaustion, he cannot sleep
because his mind remains active with thoughts of his lover. In this sonnet, Shakespeare uses diction,
imagery, and metaphor in order to express his complete devotion to his sweetheart.
In the first quatrain, the speaker quickly attempts to sleep, saying he is with travel tired (2). The word
travel indicates that the speaker wants to rest because he journeyed all day long, but the
Shakespearean use of travel also holds the connotation of hard work or something painful. The
speaker also begins to play off of this word choice by using imagery of traveling to convey how his
active brain prevents him from falling asleep, saying But then begins a journey in my head / To work
my mind, when body s work s expired (3 4). The image of a journey depicts the nature of the speaker s
thoughts; random, trivial wonderings do not keep him awake, but rather, his mind focuses on a sole
objective and continues along a distinct path. The use of the journey as a metaphor also implies that
like the agony physically traveling creates, his wandering mind endures similarly grueling obstacles
while trying to reach his destination. This comparison produces irony because although the speaker
wants to sleep to escape the exhaustion of the day, he only encounters an equally strenuous burden.
The second quatrain reveals the speaker s destination and further explores the hardship he meets on
his metaphorical journey. The speaker continues the traveling imagery by saying his thoughts Intend a
zealous pilgrimage to thee (6), with thee referring to his lover to whom he addresses the poem. The
description of the pilgrimage as zealous further strengthens the parallels between literal travel and his
thinking, illustrating the speaker s passionate feelings about his lover, and his determination to make
the taxing journey indicates his complete devotion to his partner. The use of the word pilgrimage also
intensifies this sense of devotion; because people often go on pilgrimages for religious place, the
speaker describes his commitment to his lover as strong as one to religion. The speaker then
introduces the image of darkness by saying,

United States And The United Kingdom Essay
Two of the most powerful democracies in the modern era, the United States and the United Kingdom
lead as examples as very successful forms of democratic government. Yet despite both states utilizing
democratic governments, both differ greatly on how they operate as a state and through its
governmental structure.
The Constitution:
The U.S created its current constitution after the failures of the Articles of Federation. It created a
strong central government that derived its powers from the constitution but also shared powers with
state and local governments. The UK on the other hand, does not have a single document that stands
as its constitution but instead enacts constitutional provisions over several Acts of Parliament. U.S
constitution is extremely difficult to ratify through political means. This contrasts greatly to UK Acts
of Parliament which can be changed by a simple majority in the legislature. The most important aspect
of the American constitution is the strict separation of powers of the executive, legislature, and the
judiciary branches of government. This separation of powers allows each branch to work
independently but also allow them to check each other s powers if one branch oversteps their
boundaries. Checks and balances within the three branches serve to limit but also connect each to
work together while being independent of each other. In the UK however, no such formal separation
of powers is present. The Government Minster must be a member of one of the

Why We Should Celebrate Columbus Day
Columbus Day is labeled in The United States of America as a whole day to celebrate Christopher
Columbus founding America. Kids across America love Columbus Day because they have the day off
from school. People who work in Federal Offices get a day off as well, but some are not as happy with
the day as the children are.
Some people in the United States believe that Christopher Columbus was an evil man who just

the first to change it however, Denver, Albuquerque, and Seattle have all changed the holiday to

Difference Between Fundamental And Technical Analysis
Business Finance
Fundamental and technical analysis are the two methods used for researching and forecasting the
future growth trends of stocks. Fundamental analysis is defined as a method of evaluating securities
by attempting to measure the intrinsic value of a stock. Fundamental analysts study everything from
the overall economy and industry conditions to the financial condition and management of companies.
While, in turn. Technical analysis is the evaluation of securities by means of studying statistics

Human Service Work Ethics Case Study
The effect of sexual abuse on children is disturbing and enduring. Victims of abuse are abused by
those they trust and depend on, and because of this they do not realize that they are victims and that
the abuse is wrong or not their fault. Faulkner (1996), states that sexually abused children have
reported that they feel something is wrong with them, that the abuse is their fault and they should
blame themselves for the abuse . When children or anyone decides to report they have been sexually
abused, particularly by a family member, the entire household is affected. This in return gives family
members the feeling that they have to choose sides, along with deciding who should take the blame.

Beneath Doña Bárbara
Bourdieu introduction of this concept of cultural arbitraries can be found in the narration of the Doña
Bárbara narrative: Beneath Dona Barbara s didactic narrative voice, which persistently seeks to
establish unambiguous categories, lies an unsettling recognition of the instability of meanings (Skurski

boundaries in the way of life for Altamira, under the influence of doña Bárbara: Opposing forces

revealing the arbitrary marks of colonizing authority (Skurski 621). Santos s ultimate goal is to
introduce the city s dominant cultural ideas and place them into the town of Altamira. Additionally,
Santos wants to change the direction of the town, from barbaric into civilized, because new ideas are
important for both elite and poor: The goal of seeking new sources of creativity within the nation

Santos introduces new sources of creativity for Altamira by rejecting the stance and influence that

Ammon Ford s Poem
Does poetry really stand a chance if you just read between the lines and not dig deeper to find the full
meaning of the poem? In Ammon Ford unzips Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening, he strives
to read between the lines however, he is set back by his lack of motivation to further develop his full
ideas of the poem itself. Frost s poem has two main symbols in which they represent society and being
on the outside of today s society this is proven by the ideas given in the poem. In the article Ford
summarizes the main ideas in Robert Frost s poem Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening. Ford
explains how there are many meanings to the poem. Throughout this poem, Ford is giving his
opinions on what he thinks about Frost s poem. Also, he explains how there could be many more
meanings beneath the surface symbols that Frost presents. Ford proves his ideas and shows what he
thinks about the symbols in the poem. In the article Ammon Ford unzips Stopping by the Woods on a
Snowy Evening, Ford realizes that there is a deeper meaning to the poem. Understanding this, Ford
realizes that the deeper meaning to the poem could mean so much more. This is enjoyable because the
deeper meanings in the poem is what Ford is trying to interpert. Ford does a good job of explaining his
deeper meanings when saying, The horse could be symbolic of some wordy resemblance or one of the
promises. Ford is further developing this symbol into another meaning. It is awesome how Ford does
not just see on the surface level and digs deeper to find the true meaning. However, on a deeper level
Ford presents ideas in his article that could mean something totally different. Although, Ford digs
deeper to further the meaning of symbolism, he also stays just right under the surface level. Despite
him digging a little deeper Ford fails to explain the real meanings of the symbols. On the other hand
Ford even says how , I personally would rather read the lines than read between them. When Ford
states this is shows that he really did not fully interpret the true meaning of the symbols in Frost s
poem. This shows that Ford would have rather just read the poem than actually digging for the true
meaning. As a result, Ford s explanations

The Scientific Revolution And Religion
The Scientific Revolution was not intended to be a war on religion and tradition even though it was
interpreted as such. The Scientific Revolution, which lasted roughly from 1543 to 1642, was arguably
the greatest development in the European intellectual history (Kreis, 2012). It was a revolution in the
way people perceived the world. During this era, scientific revolutionaries like Nicholas Copernicus,
the Polish astronomer (1473 1543); Descartes, the French philosopher (1596 1650) and Isaac Newton
the British mathematician (1642 1727) tried to better understand man and the physical world thereby
overturning the authorities of the Church and the scientists and philosophers who preceded them,
including Ptolemy, Galen and Aristotle. It was mainly the Copernican theory that caused many to
perceive the Scientific Revolution as a war on tradition. As far as understanding the universe was
concerned, the medieval world depended on the work of Claudius Ptolemy (c. 90 168), the ... Show

The main character, Blossom Edwards, is a young woman doing a traditionally man s job. Edwards
has to take over her uncle s taxi business to make ends meet for the family or they will do without the
basics necessities. Another instance of desperation Hamilton uses is of a young boy trying to get a taxi
ride on several occasions. We find he has to get home to take care of younger siblings and, if need be,
will walk many miles to do so. The body language of characters also creates a sense of pathos
throughout the piece. You can feel the discouragement, fear, desperation and happiness without a
single word from the characters. Danger is another effective tool this filmmaker puts in place for her
audience to create pathos. This is done with a news bulletin on the radio about shootings, an attack on
Edwards husband for wearing the wrong color shirt, and an intense scene involving a roadblock by
gunmen. But Hamilton gives us hope too. Edwards finally gives the young boy a ride despite the
danger that may be involved in doing so. She also pays the gunmen at the roadblock to let her pass
with the boy in her taxi rather than leaving him to an uncertain fate at their hands. And when the
election, the cause of all the tension, is over luminaires are sent up to signal a new beginning. Keeping
in mind, all the while this is all in a day s work for a young woman trying to feed her family.

  • 2. Veno Anonymous Snakes Research Paper Venomous snakes are known as rich sources of toxins among venomous animal species. Snakes venoms are complex chemical mixtures of pharmacologically active compounds such as enzymes, peptides and proteins with specific chemical and biological activities (Ménez et al., 2006, Jiminez Porras, 1968), in addition to non protein components such as carbohydrates, lipids and metal ions. Snakes venoms are mostly reputed for their neurotoxic substances, which induce paralysis and death, and hemotoxic substances that have hemorrhagic effects (Greene, 1997, Jiminez Porras, 1968). In that respect, in many parts of the world especially in tropical and subtropical countries, snakebites are considered as serious health concerns (Harrison et al. 2009). According ... • 3. What Is The Mood Of The Poem Jabberwocky Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll Jabberwocky is an adventurous short poem about a boy who slays a beast. The poem is comprised of many words that are inexistent. Many of the words are combinations of two existing words combined together to create a new word that gives the reader a more vivid image. An example is the word slithy which is a combination of the words slimy and lithe. The poem also features mythological figures of the author s imagination. This also adds to the enjoyment of the reader because the readers have to imagine for themselves what the creatures look like with no background knowledge. One example is the Tumtum tree. An actual Tumtum tree does not exist, so the reader has to imagine what it would look like to them. Also, the rhyme scheme makes the poem pleasant for listening. Lewis Carrol mixes real and inexistent words in each stanza to create a rhyming pattern. The adventurous mood, the made up words, the creatures. and the rhyme scheme all work together in this poem with the plot to create a fun short poem. To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this poem, the way the author wants the reader to seize the day is to get married. The first paragraph uses symbolism to compare aging to a flower that is wilting. Flowers are also commonly used as symbolism for virginity, which furthers the author s theme of getting married and subsequently losing one s virginity. While the theme can be about love, and virginity, and marriage, the general idea of the passage is seizing the day, which can be interpreted differently by every person. The idea is to find happiness and joy and live in the moment and whether or not that is found through love or not is up to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Debt Is Bad Debt is simply money that is owed, and it can be very dangerous to get into. Many people, even rich people can go into massive amounts of debt and be nearly unable to escape it and get all of their money paid back. Debt can include things like loans for credit cards and other things, such as loans taken out to pay for things that current cash reserves can t pay for. A lot of celebrities have gone into debt, and I will be explaining one celebrity s debt; Kanye West. On February 13th Kanye announced that he was approximately $53 million in personal debt. The news was delivered on his Twitter where he made multiple tweets in which he somewhat vaguely explained the situation. He mainly blames the debt on issues with being successful in the fashion ... • 5. Weaknesses And Strengths Of Plato s View On Democracy In the era of the contemporary United States, a country that has had the longest standing democracy, we are used to thinking very highly of its system. However, throughout our history, there have been a couple of critics to the system of democracy. It comes as no surprise that democracy does have its issues. One of the first pieces of literature where democracy was mentioned and analyzed at a deeper level was The Republic by Plato. This ancient Greek philosopher did not completely agree with democracy, regardless of the fact that ancient Athens was the first civilization that gave rise to it. In fact, in a numerical list that he composes on which are the best ways of ruling, Plato puts democracy at one of the lowest levels. In order, Plato s list of types of government from most desirable to least desirable looks like this: 1.) Republic (The ideal city) 2.) Timocracy 3.) Oligarchy 4.) Democracy 5.) Tyranny. Additionally, In The Republic, Plato tells us his beliefs and values on certain aspects of life through the eyes of Socrates. So, even though Plato himself does not appear in The Republic and instead Socrates does, nonetheless, Plato and Socrates shared the same ideology when it came to democracy. As we know, Plato did not agree with democracy. As a result, in this paper, I will explore the greatest intellectual strengths and weaknesses of Plato s view on democracy. First, a democracy is a form of government in which the supreme power is handed to the people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Legacy Of Abraham Cahan Jews have been lashed out on, time and time again throughout history, but one man who saw this hatred for Jews first hand and tried turning the tables, was a man by the name of Abraham Cahan. He is known as being the first prominent writer to emerge from the biggest wave of Jewish immigration from Russia, but he was much more than just a writer. He was an editor and critic of several New York newspapers, a sociologists reformer, and a teacher of English to many Jewish immigrants following in his footsteps. Cahan valued his Jewish religion, but not only that, he valued language and in particular English and Yiddish which he wrote in. He believed in telling the story of immigration through fiction which he did in his literature, by taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is just one battle in a continuous war against maintaining his religion, but he had a changing world around him tearing him apart from it. In this constant war, he ends up having to flee Europe in particular Russia, because he gets tangled in a mess involving an assassination attempt of the Czar. This journey leads him to America, where he is first greeted by the Statue of Liberty at Ellis Island. When Cahan came to America many things changed for him, he was forced to leave behind his old life and try his hardest to assimilate himself into American culture. He left behind many aspects of his culture, but was still able to continue on with many of them. One piece of his life that was hardest to maintain was his language. Although he held onto Yiddish, Russian, and Hebrew, he immediately had to learn English which soon became a large part of his career and what made him so astounding. America is said to be the home of the free, and this is what so many immigrants desired when coming to America, and Cahan was no exception. He was a tremendous aid to those immigrants by devoting the first years of his life in America to teaching English. While doing this, he also lectured and wrote articles on Jewish life in the city for countless New York magazines. Within these articles he answers many questions on tough arguments, mostly circled around religion. An example of one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Alice G. Martin s Game Of Thrones For nearly six seasons now, Americans have sat, captivated, in front of their television screens on Sunday evenings, while men fought to the death for a throne, for honor, women, family and vengeance. They have watched a timid young girl become a queen. The illegitimate son of a Northern noble house has risen through the ranks, only to be assassinated, and brought back from the other side. Viewers have watched their favorite characters be executed, persecuted, prosecuted, raped, assassinated, maimed, humiliated and murdered. They have yelled at their television screens, cried for the beloved characters that have been lost, and cussed and swore they would never watch it again. Yet, next Sunday rolls around, and there they are, planted on the couch, nervous with anticipation over who we may lose, or who may be victorious this week. This show that has caused viewers such anguish and intrigue is Game of Thrones, the hit HBO series based on George RR Martin s book series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Game of Thrones is one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alice G. Walton of Forbes Magazine has some ideas about what it is that keeps viewers coming back. Walton claims that there are the obvious hooks of swordfights, sex, nakedness and overall intrigue. These elements combine with the fantasy aspects, such as Daenerys s dragons and Melisandre s blood magic, to create a type of make believe escapism for viewers. This obviously is not the same type of make believe escapism that children experience with Disney, however. Game of Thrones runs deeper and offers more to viewers than just this escapism. It forces them to become intimately acquainted with the characters by teaching their histories, their struggles, failures, accomplishments, and their motivations and then it twists and shows viewers that they really have no idea what is going on. It is this manipulation that is one of the major aspects that makes this show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Theme Of Morality In Trifles Ethics and morals are two different things although quite similar. Ethics relate to the essence of right and wrong according to the law. This is exhibited in the pre meditated murder that we see in the play Trifles. Morals are related to personal standards. What may be morally right for one person may not be morally right for another person. Morals are based on a person s upbringing, their religion, and their personal beliefs. In Trifles, Sweat, and The Storm, Susan Glaspell, Zora Neal Hurston, and Kate Chopin use symbolism to show, develop, and illustrate the theme of ethics versus morals. Susan Glaspell uses the bird to justify the murder of Mr. Wright in Trifles. Within the play there is a broken bird cage. This cage is symbolic of Minnie Wright s marriage. She lives in the middle of nowhere with John. This isolation breaks Minnie Wright s spirit, just like the cage is broken. In the story it says, She used to sing real pretty herself (986). Since Minnie is out in the country with no one but John, that bird is her lifeline to the outside world. She lives through that bird. John s oppression of Minnie, and the fact that he cold heartedly killed her bird takes away her desire to sing, or dance, or dress pretty. Arthur Waterman states She was figuratively strangled by John (3). In turn, Minnie literally strangles John with a rope in his sleep. The women don t always find this action morally or ethically right. Mrs. Peters, in the beginning, said But, Mrs. Hale, the law is the law (Glaspell 984). After finding out about the bird, and pondering the situation among themselves, the women all agree with Minnie Wright. It was justifiable homicide in their eyes, thus making it ethically and morally right in their eyes. Hurston s Sweat uses the snake as symbolism, and to justify Delia s actions after Sykes is bitten. In the story, Delia is a faithful Christian woman who is married to a devil like man named Sykes. Hurston associates the snake to Sykes. The snake symbolizes Sykes representation of the Devil. Sykes knows that Delia is scared of snakes. Delia tells Sykes, You know how skeered Ah is of snakes. Course Ah Knowed it (1). Sykes not only torments Delia, he also cheats on her openly. My purpose today is not to write a tribute to this man as more capable men have already done this. The best one I have found so far is Dr. Mohler s and you can read it here. As I write this I am watching the memorial service of this historical figure. Since his death I have read many articles and statuses spread across social media platforms. What has been most saddening is the reaction from certain quarters of Christianity. When some see Mandela, all they see is a communist terrorist who to some degree has been part of a secret white genocide plan; an interfaith, liberal, corrupt leader; a champion of abortion and ... And if you are only filled with indignation you won t have the gentleness and the care to get into people s questions, to understand them, they won t feel respected, they will tune you out Paul was neither obnoxious nor cowardly. He was filled with holy loving jealousy. We are not. We are either to afraid to open our mouths, too cowardly, or when we do we are obnoxious. How do we overcome that? The answer is this, Paul told the Corinthians that when he first came to them, he was filled with fear and trembling, and he resolved to know nothing but Christ and Him crucified when he was among them . Anybody who says they are a Christian but are harsh or condemning, the problem is not that they are too fanatical about the gospel, it s that they are not fanatical enough... because the real gospel, is the only place where we see a God who is not more fundamentally holy than loving. Anybody that understands the real gospel, is turned into someone who is both thundering and tender. What did Paul feel? Holy Jealousy, deep complexity, indignation and compassion. He didn t start by railing against the flagrant idolatry. No, he found a point at which to connect with the people, and show them the true God. All of this to say, that responding to so called idolatry by calling it out and making self righteous statements is not conducive to the gospel message spreading, and it is not exampled for ... In Italy, the humanist educational program won rapid acceptance and, by the mid 15th century, many of the upper classes had received a humanist education. Some of the highest officials of the Catholic church were humanists with the resources of a mass important library. The much humanist effort went into improving the understanding and translations of the biblical and early Christian texts. According to the American Humanist Association, define humanism as is a progressive life stance that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead meaningful, ethical lives capable of adding to the greater good of humanity. The romantic music movement was an intellectual movement that originated in the second half of the 19th century in Europe, that strengthened in reaction to the industrial revolution. It was a revolt against social and political norms of the ages of enlightenment. The romantic music movement was embodied most strongly in the visual art, music, and literature, but had a major impact on history and education. In the romantic period, music became more expressive and emotional, expanding to encompass literary, artist, and philosophical themes. During the romantic period, music often took on a much more nationalistic purpose. Essay on The Principle of Separate Corporate Personality The Principle of Separate Corporate Personality The principle of separate corporate personality has been firmly established in the common law since the decision in the case of Salomon v Salomon Co Ltd[1], whereby a corporation has a separate legal personality, rights and obligations totally distinct from those of its shareholders. Legislation and courts nevertheless sometimes pierce the corporate veil so as to hold the shareholders personally liable for the liabilities of the corporation. Courts may also lift the corporate veil , in the conflict of laws in order to determine who actually controls the corporation, and thus to ascertain the corporation s true contacts, and closest and most real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The veil of incorporation can be described as being the separation between a company and its members. Due to the separate legal status of a company from its members this is usually very strictly maintained. However, there are certain circumstances when the courts will deny the people who run the company the advantage of hiding behind the corporate veil. In these instances the veil of incorporation is said to be pierced or lifted , i.e. the barrier between a company and its members is removed so there is no legal separation between them. There instances are however, difficult to predict as the reasons depend on the judges interpretation of fairness or policy or of how a particular statute should be interpreted. In the leading case of Salomon v Salomon Co Ltd, Salomon incorporated his boot and shoe repair business, transferring it to a company. He took all the shares of the company except six, which were held by his wife, daughter and four sons. Part of the payment for the transfer of the business was made in the form of debentures (a secured loan) issued by the company to Salomon. Salomon transferred the debentures to Broderip in exchange for a loan. Salomon defaulted on payment of interest on the loan and Broderip sought to enforce the security against the company. Microbiota Controls The Homeostasis Of Glial Cells Cristiaan Ciarlo Bio 328 Summary: The article titled: Microbiota Controls the Homeostasis of Glial Cells in the Gut Lamina Propria assessed the varying conditions in which Microbiota within the developing digestive tract can influence the process of network formation of the certain aspects of the enteric nervous system. The enteric nervous system (ENS) is the aspect of the digestive system endowed with its own nervous system (Bowen 2006). As far as the article is concerned, there were three important biological findings presented in the article concerning the ENS. The first was that glial cells, under situations that are comparable to environmental, aggregate in the lamina propria during early stages of development after birth. The second finding was that this population of glial cells undergoes a regenerative cycle throughout the life of the organism. This occurs in a specific region of the gut. The final finding was that this early stage development and subsequent regeneration throughout the life of the organism depends on the microbiota presented to the gut. The Microbiota, as they are referred to in the article, are part of an enormous array of microbes which colonize the body (Baily, Gur, Worly, 2015). Therefore it can be understood that the gut microbiota are the microbes of the body that inhabit the gut. These seem to be part of the primary focus in the article. It is different to many other sources in regards to how that information is given out, this being the way most all their videos are of people giving speeches. Given the vast collection of speeches on the site, we can find many a great performances where it is obvious that the speaker had a great effect on the audience and also where the audience wasn t very much influenced. On the topic of aging and general health, there were two speeches by Aubrey de Grey s and Dan Buettner, and we will be comparing these two speeches together No great speech can be created without a good hook. Unfortunately, it seems like neither of them really created a great hook. They failed to really capture the attention of the audience and reel them in. Both introductions had weak hooks, but they made it so that you at least knew what the speakers were going to talk about and what direction they re going to take with their speeches. Despite both intros being weak, Aubrey de Grey s introduction was clearly weaker. Grey did not have any hook whatsoever. Instead, he told the audience that he was strapped for time and that he would need to dive in right ahead. Buettner on the other hand, at least tried to create a hook by starting off with a fact that not many people would know. It was weak, but better than nothing. The hook is out of the way and next is fluidity for the introduction. Bueller makes it easy for the audience to follow along with what he s saying. His use of transitive words guides the audience and it makes it easy to follow along. This along with his pleasant tone and flow makes it easy to pay attention. A stark contrast to Grey s speech. Grey at times became quite hard to follow due to his near monotonal voice and the speed at which he spoke. It was hard to follow what he was saying and often times I ended up lost, missing quite a bit of the information that he was giving out. At one point, I even checked that I had not accidentally changed the video s speed because of how fast it was going. This combined with the lack of any real hook, made it very hard to pay ... It is also a stage when the infant is oblivious about the need to distinguish itself from its mother or the world around and is fully dependent on its mother for the gratification of its desires. This stage is followed by the stage of Abjection which occurs from 4 8 months of age. The subject (child) submits himself to the prevailing rules and customs of the society, the object (other) opposes the subject and disturbs the smooth run of things whereas the abject threatens the very identity and wholeness of the subject. Objects can lead to either or both fascination and repulsion. When an object is on the verge of destroying the subject s existence, it becomes an abject i.e. something to get rid of. In a similar manner an abject becomes an object, when it is no longer a serious threat to the subject s hegemony over its own self. In the Symbolic realm or the linguistic stage the child is further separated from a connection with the mother as language itself finds meaning within its own internal logic of differences. For example the meaning of the word hot is understood only when we deduce the differences while comparing it with the word cold . One of the project problems mentioned by Brooks Jr. in Chapter 12 of his book The Mythical Man Month is the problem with program maintenance. According to him fixing a bug has around 20 to 50% chances of introducing another one. As explanation he shows two reasons: first one is that in most of the projects the structure of documentation in not clear, precise and does not describe all dependencies that exist in the system and second is that the programmer who is repairing the system is typically not the same as the one who composed the code at development (Brooks Jr., 1995). • 27. The Shean Use Of Sleep In Shakespeare s Sonnet 27 Shakespeare s Sonnet 27 describes how despite the speaker s physical exhaustion, he cannot sleep because his mind remains active with thoughts of his lover. In this sonnet, Shakespeare uses diction, imagery, and metaphor in order to express his complete devotion to his sweetheart. In the first quatrain, the speaker quickly attempts to sleep, saying he is with travel tired (2). The word travel indicates that the speaker wants to rest because he journeyed all day long, but the Shakespearean use of travel also holds the connotation of hard work or something painful. The speaker also begins to play off of this word choice by using imagery of traveling to convey how his active brain prevents him from falling asleep, saying But then begins a journey in my head / To work my mind, when body s work s expired (3 4). The image of a journey depicts the nature of the speaker s thoughts; random, trivial wonderings do not keep him awake, but rather, his mind focuses on a sole objective and continues along a distinct path. The use of the journey as a metaphor also implies that like the agony physically traveling creates, his wandering mind endures similarly grueling obstacles while trying to reach his destination. This comparison produces irony because although the speaker wants to sleep to escape the exhaustion of the day, he only encounters an equally strenuous burden. The second quatrain reveals the speaker s destination and further explores the hardship he meets on his metaphorical journey. The speaker continues the traveling imagery by saying his thoughts Intend a zealous pilgrimage to thee (6), with thee referring to his lover to whom he addresses the poem. The description of the pilgrimage as zealous further strengthens the parallels between literal travel and his thinking, illustrating the speaker s passionate feelings about his lover, and his determination to make the taxing journey indicates his complete devotion to his partner. The use of the word pilgrimage also intensifies this sense of devotion; because people often go on pilgrimages for religious place, the speaker describes his commitment to his lover as strong as one to religion. The speaker then introduces the image of darkness by saying, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

United States And The United Kingdom Essay Two of the most powerful democracies in the modern era, the United States and the United Kingdom lead as examples as very successful forms of democratic government. Yet despite both states utilizing democratic governments, both differ greatly on how they operate as a state and through its governmental structure. The Constitution: The U.S created its current constitution after the failures of the Articles of Federation. It created a strong central government that derived its powers from the constitution but also shared powers with state and local governments. The UK on the other hand, does not have a single document that stands as its constitution but instead enacts constitutional provisions over several Acts of Parliament. U.S constitution is extremely difficult to ratify through political means. This contrasts greatly to UK Acts of Parliament which can be changed by a simple majority in the legislature. The most important aspect of the American constitution is the strict separation of powers of the executive, legislature, and the judiciary branches of government. This separation of powers allows each branch to work independently but also allow them to check each other s powers if one branch oversteps their boundaries. Checks and balances within the three branches serve to limit but also connect each to work together while being independent of each other. In the UK however, no such formal separation of powers is present. The Government Minster must be a member of one of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beneath Doña Bárbara Bourdieu introduction of this concept of cultural arbitraries can be found in the narration of the Doña Bárbara narrative: Beneath Dona Barbara s didactic narrative voice, which persistently seeks to establish unambiguous categories, lies an unsettling recognition of the instability of meanings (Skurski 621). The instability of meanings is found in the actions of Santos, has he is violating accepted boundaries in the way of life for Altamira, under the influence of doña Bárbara: Opposing forces traverse land and people, dissolving moral boundaries and awakening transgressive desires, thereby revealing the arbitrary marks of colonizing authority (Skurski 621). Santos s ultimate goal is to introduce the city s dominant cultural ideas and place them into the town of Altamira. Additionally, Santos wants to change the direction of the town, from barbaric into civilized, because new ideas are important for both elite and poor: The goal of seeking new sources of creativity within the nation accorded new value ...dimensions of life that were important to both pueblo and elite (Skurski 626). • 38. Ammon Ford s Poem Does poetry really stand a chance if you just read between the lines and not dig deeper to find the full meaning of the poem? In Ammon Ford unzips Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening, he strives to read between the lines however, he is set back by his lack of motivation to further develop his full ideas of the poem itself. Frost s poem has two main symbols in which they represent society and being on the outside of today s society this is proven by the ideas given in the poem. In the article Ford summarizes the main ideas in Robert Frost s poem Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening. Ford explains how there are many meanings to the poem. Throughout this poem, Ford is giving his opinions on what he thinks about Frost s poem. Also, he explains how there could be many more meanings beneath the surface symbols that Frost presents. Ford proves his ideas and shows what he thinks about the symbols in the poem. In the article Ammon Ford unzips Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening, Ford realizes that there is a deeper meaning to the poem. Understanding this, Ford realizes that the deeper meaning to the poem could mean so much more. This is enjoyable because the deeper meanings in the poem is what Ford is trying to interpert. Ford does a good job of explaining his deeper meanings when saying, The horse could be symbolic of some wordy resemblance or one of the promises. Ford is further developing this symbol into another meaning. It is awesome how Ford does not just see on the surface level and digs deeper to find the true meaning. However, on a deeper level Ford presents ideas in his article that could mean something totally different. Although, Ford digs deeper to further the meaning of symbolism, he also stays just right under the surface level. Despite him digging a little deeper Ford fails to explain the real meanings of the symbols. On the other hand Ford even says how , I personally would rather read the lines than read between them. When Ford states this is shows that he really did not fully interpret the true meaning of the symbols in Frost s poem. This shows that Ford would have rather just read the poem than actually digging for the true meaning. As a result, Ford s explanations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Scientific Revolution And Religion The Scientific Revolution was not intended to be a war on religion and tradition even though it was interpreted as such. The Scientific Revolution, which lasted roughly from 1543 to 1642, was arguably the greatest development in the European intellectual history (Kreis, 2012). It was a revolution in the way people perceived the world. During this era, scientific revolutionaries like Nicholas Copernicus, the Polish astronomer (1473 1543); Descartes, the French philosopher (1596 1650) and Isaac Newton the British mathematician (1642 1727) tried to better understand man and the physical world thereby overturning the authorities of the Church and the scientists and philosophers who preceded them, including Ptolemy, Galen and Aristotle. It was mainly the Copernican theory that caused many to perceive the Scientific Revolution as a war on tradition. As far as understanding the universe was concerned, the medieval world depended on the work of Claudius Ptolemy (c. 90 168), the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Ptolemaic System, God, not fixed stars, was the outermost element. A year earlier, Cardinal Bellarmine, had authored his well known Letter to Foscarini in which he conveyed his displeasure with the heliocentric idea. Before his death in 1543, Copernicus had written his treatise titled On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Bodies. In it, he pleaded with mathematicians to teach his theory. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main character, Blossom Edwards, is a young woman doing a traditionally man s job. Edwards has to take over her uncle s taxi business to make ends meet for the family or they will do without the basics necessities. Another instance of desperation Hamilton uses is of a young boy trying to get a taxi ride on several occasions. We find he has to get home to take care of younger siblings and, if need be, will walk many miles to do so. The body language of characters also creates a sense of pathos throughout the piece. You can feel the discouragement, fear, desperation and happiness without a single word from the characters. Danger is another effective tool this filmmaker puts in place for her audience to create pathos. This is done with a news bulletin on the radio about shootings, an attack on Edwards husband for wearing the wrong color shirt, and an intense scene involving a roadblock by gunmen. But Hamilton gives us hope too. Edwards finally gives the young boy a ride despite the danger that may be involved in doing so. She also pays the gunmen at the roadblock to let her pass with the boy in her taxi rather than leaving him to an uncertain fate at their hands. And when the election, the cause of all the tension, is over luminaires are sent up to signal a new beginning. Keeping in mind, all the while this is all in a day s work for a young woman trying to feed her family. Overcoming gender biases toward women and girls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
