Effective Workplace Communication
Listening and Effective Workplace Communication
James Humes, a former presidential speech writer, stated that, the art of
communication is the language of leadership (Leading Thoughts, 2010).
Communication is an essential process that is common in the workplace. Everyone in
the workplace especially leaders must communicate with others. Ideas, conversations,
disagreements, and commitments can all be exchanged through communication.
Anyone can communicate but it takes discipline and skills to effectively
communicate. These skills can include feedback, presentation, non verbal
communication, and listening. Listening is the most valuable skills to effective
workplace communication because it enhances job effectiveness, relationships ...

If a guest calls down to the front desk and complains about their room the front
desk clerk needs to actively listen to know how to respond. A response may include
sending up an item that was requested by the guest or escalating the problem to
upper management. Intently listening to the message that is presented will help
employees and managers respond in an appropriate manner. A response to listening
does not always have to verbal. A non verbal response like smiling or nodding can
be an appropriate response. It does not matter if the response is verbal or non verbal,
listening will help to ensure that the response is effective.
People tend to assume that the most important part of the pyramid is the top but they
are incorrect. The bottom of the pyramid is the most important part of the pyramid.
The bottom of the pyramid is the foundation on which the other blocks stand. If there
was a pyramid to represent communication skills, listening would be the foundation
or the base for communication. Communication skills build on each other and the
skill that is used for the moment in time is the tip of the pyramid. Truly effective
communication involves more than just expressing yourself clearly. It also requires
effective listening (Brown, 2009). Listening helps to strengthen the other
communication skills like feedback and presentation. It is hard to present to an
audience without understanding the audience s needs. To understand the
Crisis Of The 14th Century
Nearly ten thousand years ago the first recorded civilization emerged in the world.
Between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, (Mesopotamia) lived the ancient Sumerian
peoples. Since then, time has seen the creation and decimation of thousands of
countries and economies. In this time, common political structures consisted of a
powerful top down ruling where either pharaohs, dictators, or kings held all or most
of the power. After ten thousand years of trial and error, the American capitalistic
system of the last several hundred years has propelled civilizations across the world
in an increasingly exponential positive direction. The prowess of capitalism, as
opposed to other systems like socialism and communism, can be proved through
philosophy, psychology and history.
The crisis of the 14th century seen the infantile implementation of capitalistic
thought. The crisis brought social upheaval, plagues and natural disasters to areas
across Europe. There had been a dramatic drop in population during this era, In
little over a century, from 1340 to 1450, however, the western European population
fell from 54 million to 37 million, a 31 percent drop in only a century (Mises).
France had seen an incredible amount of rainfall in the year 1315 which led to wide
spread crop failure. During this time there had been, widespread famine, reports of
cannibalism, and epidemics (Uwbg). The 14th century also seen the disastrous effects
of the black plague which speculatively claimed the
How Does Walter Mitty Study The Benefits Of Daydreaming
In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber is about a
man who gets through his everyday life by daydreaming numerous amount of
times. He daydreams of being a laudable pilot, a millionaire banker, a marksman s,
audacious WW2 pilot. Recently in class, we have studied the benefits of
daydreaming, and I will be explaining how Walter Mitty uses it to his advantage to
get by in his mundane life. First, Walter Mitty uses daydreaming by trying to recall
previous thoughts and memories he has heard. In the article The Virtues of
Daydreaming it explains those who are more prone to mind wandering tend to be
better at generating new ideas . This quote illustrates how if people tend to daydream
they make ideas much better
National Football League Vs National Basketball Association
The National Football League and the National Basketball Association are very
alike but different in their own ways. Although both the leagues have contracts, a
salary cap, and revenue sharing they are both very different. Both leagues have a
championship game game where they score high ratings because of their high
market players. Curry and Lebron playing against each other in the NBA finals
last year generated ratings up to 19.94 million viewers the most all time other than
the 1998 Jordan s Bulls finals. Brady and Wilson playing against each other in the
super bowl generated ratings up to 112 million dollars the most all time. This shows
the both sports are big but are different. While both are wildly successful major
sports leagues, they are very different when it comes to player contracts, revenue

The NFL handles its contracts based on the team. They offer larger contracts ut
end up not paying all the money to the player. The NFL only pays players what
they have earned. If a player is offer 100 million dollars to play for a team, and the
player only plays for 2 years, the player would only receive 44 million dollars. The
NBA guarantees all the money in the contract. NBA players tend to have longer
careers and less injuries than NFL players so teams are willing to offer guaranteed
contracts to their players. NBA teams don t offer the same amount of money to its
players but end up paying around the same amount of money has NFL teams do with
guaranteed contracts. NBA
Mark Twain Conclusion
Mark Twain
Let us endeavour so to live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be
sorry.
― Mark Twain
Mark Twain was an influential writer, who not only wrote books with a sense of
humour, but also with an intellect like no one else. He wrote many books, of which
The Adventure of Tom Sawyerand its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn have
become timeless classics. This essay will give a description of Mark Twains life, his
written literature and what his work has done for the literary world.
When Mark Twain was born in 1835, he got the name Samuel Langhorne Clemens.
Around 1863 he later legally changed his name to Mark Twain, when he worked as a
riverboat pilot. In his childhood, Mark Twain grew up in Hannibal, along... Show

Mark Twain always came up with quotes from his books, and because of an intense
curiosity I started reading his two classics. These books made me feel a variation
of emotions, such as happiness and acute desire to learn history and many more.
He had an abrupt way of telling things as they were, and a lot of people, including
me, were and are drawn to his stories because they do not refine people or society.
His tranquil literary style has given these books a sense of rawness to the emotions
his characters feel in his books, and the fact that Mark Twain is able to transmit
these emotions that goes to the roots of human nature, through only pieces of paper
is one of the many reasons why he is an author that almost everybody knows of. He
has not only opened many people s eyes, but also motivated great authors, such as
Ernest Hemingway and William Falkner. Mark Twain is able to create characters
that can see their environment from several perspectives, a great talent to have and it
teaches everybody who reads The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , and The
Adventure of Tom Sawyer the basic intuition of seeing things from other people s
perspective.
To conclude, Mark Twain is still relevant today and he teaches people the importance
of empathy, but also gives an insight to how unjust the society was before. He has
written many great things, a lot of them based on humour, such as The Adventures of
Compensation For Breach Of Contract
Section 74: Compensation for breach of contract where penalty stipulated for
Section 74 lays down that When a contract has been broken, if a sum is named in
the contract as the amount be paid in case of such breach, or if the contract
contains any other stipulation by way of penalty, the party complaining of the
breach is entitled, whether or not actual damage or loss is proved to have been
caused thereby, to receive from the party who has broken the contract reasonable
compensation not exceeding the amount so named or, as the case may be, the
penalty stipulated for. Illustrations A contracts with B to pay B Rs. 1,000 if he fails
to pay B Rs. 500 on a given day. A fails to pay B Rs. 500 on that day. B is entitled to
recover from A such compensation, not exceeding Rs. 1,000, as the court considers
reasonable. In this section the only exception is when any person enters into any
bail bond, recognizance or other instrument of the same nature or, under the
provisions of any law, or under the orders of the Central Government or of any State
Government, gives any bond for the performance of any public duty or act in which
the public are interested, he shall be liable, upon breach of the condition of any such
instrument, to pay the whole sum mentioned therein This section basically comes to
play when a specific amount is mentioned in a contract as the amount payable in the
event of breach or any other stipulation regarding a penalty is provided in a contract

Cultural Capital, Or A Lack Thereof, Can Give Insight
Into...
Cultural capital, or a lack thereof, can give insight into someone s socio economic
status. Throughout our relationship, Germeka has asked me a lot about my
experience at college. She asks questions like how much it cost to go to college,
how I pay for it, if my parents send me money, and if I have a job. The first time we
discussed college she asked me if I got paid to be a student at UNC Chapel Hill
(Reflection 1) At first, I was shocked that she thought I got paid to go to college, to
me that does not even seem logical. However, this is a clear example of differences
in cultural capital between the varying socio economic statuses. Other than previous
mentors, I am not sure how many college educated people Germeka has had genuine

I applied to college because I had grown up around people who went to college, I
saw my brothers go through the application process, I went to a school that pushed
everyone to take classes that prepared you for a higher education, and many other
factors. I gained cultural capital from my location in my family, class and school.
However, Germeka has clearly not been exposed to similar capital as I had been at
her age. This lack of cultural capital could keep her from applying to college for
many reasons. She may not apply or attempt to attend college out of anxiety over
the cost if she doesn t know about financial aid and loans, or ignorance that your
grades in high school effect your ability to attend a university, or even just general
knowledge about the application process, such as making a resume, being
involved in clubs or knowing to take the SAT. College and higher education
provides opportunities that would potentially allow Germeka to come out of the
lower class and get a job outside of the blue collar sector. The lack of experiences
and cultural capital that Germeka has is evident in our interactions and could
potentially limit the opportunities of her life. Social capital also plays a role in
Germeka s experiences and opportunities and can account for some of our
interactions. Relationships and social ties influence a person s decisions, expectations
and opportunities for advancement. Like I said before, the amount of people Germeka
Wild Cat Falling Belonging Analysis
How are Australian identity and culture represented in the texts you have studied?
While some texts choose to represent the Australian landscape as being harsh and
untamed, others appear to present them in a more positive fashion. However, when
we get to the heart of each text, it s context and purpose we find a common theme of
connection with the land within them. In this analysis I will be using Wild Cat
Falling by Mudrooroo, My Country by Dorothea Mackellar and The Drovers Wife by
Henry Lawson. Wild Cat falling represents the main character as having a
disconnection with the Australian landscape, which leads to him having an identity
crisis, not knowing where he belongs. My Country represents the authors connection
with the bush landscape,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this text the main character feels detached form the bush landscape and drawn to
the city landscape, particularly the university, but even there he struggles to belong.

or comfort for me anywhere . This sentance uses emotive language of hopelessness
and disconnection to get the reader to respond on an emotional level and the readers

technique is used in this text to convey the sense of rejection of his traditional
connection to the landscape that he refuses to believe that he has. The effect on the
audience is that we feel a strange disconnection with the Australian landscape and a
feeling that we don t belong. On page 30 the main character quotes on clear nights I
could see the water alight under the space travelling moon and I would feel detached
from life . This statement is used to show that the main character has this feeling of
detachment with his traditional homeland. The effect of this is that we feel an
atmosphere of regret and sadness, that something that sounds so great he feels
rejected by and detached from. The rejection and detachment of the landscape the
main character feels in wild cat falling show an Identity of disconnection with the

The Social Fabric Of Late Eighteenth- And Early
Nineteenth...
Jane Austen s novel is principally concerned with the social fabric of late eighteenth
and early nineteenth century England, a patriarchal society in which men held the
economic and social power. In an often satirical portrait of the men and women
attempting to gain a livelihood, Austen ironically points out faults in the system,
raising questions about the values of English society and the power structure of the
country. The novel is also engaged in an ideological debate that drives its plot and
defines the essence of its main character. The precise nature of this balance is not
necessarily clear, and despite what seems to be a happy marriage, it may not be
entirely possible to reconcile Elizabeth s independence and naturalness... Show more

arrival of Bingley and Darcy. Mrs. Bennet sees flashing lights. She views it as the
perfect chance to automatically place a few of her five daughters into the rich

life. Mrs. Bennet wants her husband to go and make a greeting to the new crowd.
Her plans are to get in contact with them and make aware her five bachelor

When Jane is invited to meet with Mr. Bingley and his sister, Mrs. Bennet suggests

Marlee Matlin On Deaf And Police Interactions Summary
n the American sign language video Marlee Matlin on Deaf and Police Interaction
,Marlee talks about the different types interactions that deaf people could have
with police while driving a car. Before she starts talking about the first topic she says
the before you start driving you should have a sign in your car visor, and a wallet
size piece of paper that says you are either deaf or hard of hearingplus writing
information about how you communicate with others. Afterwards she starts with
the first topic which is about what to expect while driving normally and if you get

Thereafter, she says that if you don t understand what the officer is saying you
should ask for an interpreter or some type of aid in writing and you should not
communicate with any officer until you have received some type of help. The
second topic she talks about is what to do if you get arrested by a police officer and
if you do you should never say you understand something unless you fully
understand what has been said or giving to you. Also, if you are given a document
you should never sign it unless your attorney is there with you and you know what
the document stands for. Furthermore, while getting arrested you should not resist
even if you want to communicate with the officer because that can make it look like
that you are trying to resist arrest. She then continues to talk about all the things you
have rights to while at the police station like you can remain silent and have the right
to an attorney and an interpreter, you can ask for both in writing and you should
immediately tell the officers there that you are either deaf or hard of

requirements of doing business with De Havilland. De Havilland would most
likely not respond to the RFQ without making sure all the documented steps of

requested in the RFQ and previously done in the past. The paper does not provide
any information on delivery (i.e. lead times and FOB), type of materials used, labor

Dollard Plastics in order to equally compare the two proposals. Prior to moving
forward with any recommendations to the Source Selection Board (SSB) it would be
important to consider some factors on the Marton Enterprise bid:
пѓ Does the proposal fulfill all the specifications initially requested in the RFQ?
пѓ What is the current Supplier s lead time, warranties and any other monetary
incentives and how does it compare to Marton s bid proposal.
пѓ Was the bid, received by Marton, sent by an individual that can bind the
organization?
Once the Marton bid has gone through its due diligence, we can then
Aaron Copland How We Listen To Music Analysis
The great and respected Aaron Copland was an American composer known for his
ballad scores. In his essay, How We Listen To Music Copland wanted avid music
listeners to realize that you can not just be dazed. His mind had sorted out three
planes of listening for us: the sensuous plane, the expressive plane, and the sheerly
musical plane. He simply defined each plane, illustrating it, and then contrasts
between the three. With this people will be a cautious of their musicsurroundings.
Being a band member for eight years music came naturally to me. Picking up any
instrument and belting out any sheet music placed in front of me was simple. Not
only is dexterity a big role, but the role of listening is number one priority. Growing

Disputed Territory of Israel and Palestine
The territory of Israel and Palestine has been disputed since 1947, and the conflict in
this region continues to this day. It has become an international conflict as it has
spread outside the boundaries of those nations involved, associating other countries
such as Syria, Jordan and Egypt with the contentions. Other countries have also
become involved, with the aim of generating peace and stability throughout the
region, but as of yet, the unrest remains. The recent conflict originally arose after
world war two as a result of the UN (United Nations) allowing the division of the
Palestine region into Jewish and Arab sectors because of the migration of many Jews
into the region, in 1930 alone 230,000 Jews moved into this location to avoid the
negative attitudes and actions that were brought about as a result of the Hitler
Regime. The Palestinians believe that Israelbelongs to them, and that the UN s
decision is wrong, whereas the Jews believe that parts of the land belong to them
because of the religiously important history related to the location, a movement
known as Zionism also encouraged Jews to move to Palestine as they saw it as the
natural location to create a Jewish state. One location that was proven in court to
religiously belong to the Jews is the Sheik Jarrah neighbourhood, where Jews are now
being allowed to settle, with the other parts of the population being forcefully evicted
from their homes.
One location that is populated by Palestinians is that of the

it doesn t give anything beneficiary, but because not everyone had the urged to at

Complexity Of Cult
To understand the complexity of a cult a person must first understand the meaning of
what that word truly defines. In a dictionary, you would find the meaning of the
word as the system of religious worship or ritual. But if you take this definition
literally then a Christian would be insulted. Just because a person follows Godor a god
does not mean they are in a cult. Nevertheless, the word cult has few different
meanings. The structure of a cult has varied differences but the goal is the same. AS
a Christian, I disagree with the term in most dictionaries. Christians describe with the
term found in most dictionaries. Christians describe cults in a different perspective.

The Threat Of The Tropical Cyclone
Introduction
Throughout the nation, natural, technological, and man made disasters jeopardizes
communities as a whole. Many people rely on their local communities emergency
preparedness plans, while they should be utilizing their knowledge, information
provided for them, and using their capabilities to ready themselves and their
families. The outcome that can come from any disastrous event mainly relies on
how you respond to the specific threat, and the steps one takes to minimize the risks
of such a scenario. Being from Florida, I have been subject to several types, and
forms, of disasters; but the most common and the one that can pose one of the
greatest threats is the tropical cyclone, also known as the hurricane. When concerning

Many times, these choices can be based on their previous experience and their

landings that have stricken the Florida Coast line, such as Hurricane Andrew in 1992,
Hurricane Irene in 1999, and the four storms that landed in 2004, Hurricanes Charley,
Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.
All of these landings have convinced many people to seek further knowledge and to
conduct better preparation standards in the inevitability of another landing. In fact,
Chris Landsea, through the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration
Hurricane Research Division states, For the U.S., the locations that have the highest

Florida, Miami more specifically, has a forty eight percent chance of being hit by a

residents have possibly become disillusioned about the possible catastrophic damage
these storms can truly cause.
In addition to the residential firsthand knowledge, and reoccurrence of these natural
disasters, another aspect that can affect the decisions

Nazi Propaganda Poster Analysis
The intended goals of the influential posters were to influence public opinion
whether it be for or against a precise political agenda. These propaganda posters
manipulated public attitude into viewing things into their way of thinking. The
pictures and words on the posters were meticulously chosen and used deliberately
to influence the way one thinks. The strategies utilized in the posters appealed to
emotions rather than logical reasoning and always had motivational factors to
influence. Nazi ideology was portrayed in posters as part of Hitler s plan to
reshape German minds into his way of thinking. For example, in poster #2 a
smiling, good looking, well groomed German student is depicted holding a Nazi
flag. The young student is regarded in the community because of his education.
The poster emphasizes that he is proud to serve Nazi Germany in hopes of
influencing other young people to serve in the military. His proud stance suggests
that he feels privileged to be carrying a swastika which is the emblem of the
German Nazi Party. The student appears to embrace becoming a Nazi by creating a

Coal Seam Gas Exploration And Development
ISSUE:
Coal seam gas exploration and development is rapidly increasing within Australia
(Woodman and Silver, 2013). This increase has sparked significant concern within the
community about the potential environmental, social and economic impacts that
could result, which could possibly put a standstill to CSG mining, costing the state
millions of dollars in revenue (Jaques and Galloway, 2012).
BACKGROUND
Coal seam gas or CSG is a naturally occurring found in coal seam deposits.
Australia has a large amount of CSG mainly found in large coal basins in
Queensland and New South Wales. In the last few years there has been a major spike
in the amount of gas exploration licenses and mining grants, this is predominantly
due to the need to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All application for CSG mining approvals must be approved by the state, within New
South Wales this is the responsibility of the department of primary industries
(Camden Council, 2013). Once the approval stage is complete CSG companies are
operations and construction are regulated through such legislation Petroleum
(Onshore) Act 1991 and such key bodies including the Environment Protection
Authority, the Department of Planning and Environment and the NSW Office of
Water (Cotton Australia, 2012).
Despite the governments and industries best efforts to respond to this increase with
legislation and codes of best practice to minimise technical failures and to protect the
environment and communities there is however, no current national leading
legislation to regulate the industry activities or practices (SCER 2013).
STAKEHOLDER ANALYSIS AND CURRENT SITUATION:
State Government s minister for mining wants to find away to achieve the best

John Maynard Keynes And The First World War
Introduction
Since the industrial revolution in the 1800s, the European economy changed for the
first time. John Maynard Keynes, a well known English economist, was a member
of the British delegation to the peace conference in Versailles in 1918. He offered
an opinion in which would cause the reparation against Germany to have negative
economic consequences for Germany and Europe as a whole. [cite text pg 341].
This paper will discuss in depth the life and approach John Maynard Keynes used
when analyzing the Treaty of Versailles. To do this, one must consider the effect of
the First World War and the imposed reparations on the German economy and the
European economy as a whole, as well as the effect on the United States economy, as
they issued ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1914 all the European Powers had elected lower houses of parliament, and a
majority of the adult male population was enfranchised. The press was relatively
free, and citizens could form parties and pressure groups. Prior to the 19th century,
most European citizens were under complete ruling of a king or queen, meaning they
have final say over any and all political, financial, legal, and economic decisions.
With the democratization of Europe, citizens could now participate in important
political decisions, which in turn, makes the European economy much more
vulnerable. Democratization of Europe makes the European economy more
vulnerable because a king/queen makes economical decisions based solely to make
themselves more wealthy while furthering the nation. On the other hand, a political
leader who makes economical decisions to satisfy the needs of citizens, keeping the
future and wealth of the nation as a lower priority. Also, a king/queen is more likely
to be more experienced and might have more attachment to important decisions, due
to the fact that they are taking over the role of the rulings of a previous family
member in the country. They also make decisions that impact the nation long term,
rather than just for the amount of time for which they are in power. Alternatively, in
the consideration of democratic leaders, there generally is a lot of leaders to make
decisions for the country, allowing
Reasons Why Charles Evens Murdered Mrs. Cheryl Hu
I believe that Charles Evens, the pool worker, murdered Mrs. Cheryl Huffington.
First of all, we can assume that Cheryl Huffington was killed two days prior to her
neighbor finding her. In the report it also says that Evens broke his restraining
order three days before the murder, or one day before she was killed. Furthermore,
during his interview, he was found to have a key to the house of Mrs. Huffington
around his neck. This proves that he is the murderer because it couldn t just be a
coincidence that he had a wife and a new job, but then he suddenly went against
the restraining order. Also, having a key to her house could obviously prove to be
very helpful if he wanted to murder her. Secondly, even though we can assume that
she was killed two days before she was found, we can t prove that. Charles Evens
said that he was out of town on the day before the murder and came back the next
day, so he wasn t in town during the murder. However, since the police report
unfortunately does not say when the murder was, we can assume that they haven t
figured it out yet (just because a gunshot was heard does not mean that it was the
murder). So, if Evens knows when the day of the murder was, and the police don t...

In the report it says that after they were caught, she promptly fired him and told him
that he was just a fling. These feelings of resentment could have followed him when
a restraining order was put on him and when she didn t feel the same love that he
had for her. Also, he could have been paranoid that Mrs. and Mr. Huffington were
getting back together when he saw that Mr. Huffington was back in
Charles Darwin Lab Report
Charles Darwin, a naturalist born in 1809 England, traveled around the world on
the HMS Beagle from 1831 1836 (Desmond). He made observations on land for
three out of the five years he traveled around the world; his most significant findings
were recorded on the GalГЎpagos Islands. The most crucial evidence of evolution, a
theory that Darwin is known for, consist of the different species of Galapagos
tortoises and finches that Darwin observed. He noticed that depending on the
different islands similar finches had different variations of beak size and shape. To
add, he observed that the tortoise s shell shape and neck length varied based on
which island they resided on. Darwin made the observation that depending on each
island, which had different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charles Lyell discovered that process that affect the Earth are constant and
observable. He also discovered that these past process that change the Earth are the
same ones occurring in the present. Darwin applied these theories to his work to
explain the biological change overtime. James Hutton found evidence that the Earth
changes slow and is 4.5 billion years. In 1785, when Hutton discovered this, many
people had originally thought the Earth did not change and was much younger. This
provided Darwin with evidence that if Earth can evolve so can living things. Lastley,
Thomas Malthus found that the more a population grows and reproduces the bigger
the population comes. This leads to competition of survival, means than there is less
food for the whole population. Therefore the organism compete to survive, reproduce,
and find food. Darwin applied this population growth theory to his ideas of population

Speech On Animal Exploitation
Exploitation is explained as the act of using resources or treating people unfairly in
order to benefit from their effort or labour. Exploitation has been a big issue
discussed among
all countries in the world because it can be occured everywhere and fiercely trap
everybody
without exception. There are some kinds of exploitation, e.g. human exploitation
known as
human trafficking and animal exploitation which has been the cause of population
reduction
and extinction for some species. Between those exploitations, human exploitation or
human
trafficking is the most prominent case viewed by the media. However, animal
exploitation is
an issue which needs quick responses and fast solutions due to its impact. In some
countries,

Thus, animals are not going to utter
words when someone or something hurts them, they will use their body language or

The second reason is that animal exploitation is considered immoral. Why is it
considered immoral? They are just animals! It is right, they are just animals.
However, the
exploitation is against the constitution number 15 year 1990 about the conservation of
biological natural resources and its ecosystem because in exploiting animals the
action of
torturing and hurting them are involved there. There are so many exploitation cases

Managing Threats At St Peter s Home Essay
Managing Threats to Data
At St Peter s we take many steps to ensure the safety of our data. To protect our
computers from viruses we use up to date antivirus software. It is important that your
antivirus software is up to date because ne viruses are always being made and
discovered. When they find a new virus the antivirus software becomes programmed
to protect your computer from them therefore the more you update your antivirus the
more protected you are as your computer can protect you from more viruses. At St
Peter s our computers are updated as soon as new software is released.
In order to ensure no important work is lost St Peter s does a backup of the school
server every hour. This data is then stored off site so then if an accident such as a fire
were to occur at school our data would be protected and we would be able to recover
our work.
In order to stop our school logins from being hacked we have a unique username
and password to access our information. We change this password every 4 weeks
this is important because if somebody does find out your password they cannot use it
for an extended period of time.
At St Peter s we have a backup generator so that if a power cut does occur we can
still run the server.
Another way to ensure your data is protected is by encrypting your important files,
this allows you to put a password on them so that nobody else can access or alter
them.

Marrying Absurd
Joan Didion s essay Marrying Absurd is a comical review of Las Vegas and its
wedding business. It gives the reader a more in depth look at the things they
always expected were happening in Nevada but were never concerned enough
about to do the research. While I already knew most of the information in the essay,
Didion presented it in such an entertaining, sarcastic manner that I was never bored.
Without coming right out and saying just what she thought of the industry she told
us exactly how she felt about the Las Vegas spur of the moment way of life by
choosing her words very carefully. All of these services, like most others in Las

all together. The picture of the wedding party sipping pink champagne (minus the
bride who is too young to do so) is classic and illustrates her points without her having
to reiterate them. By mentioning that the bride was several months pregnant she
shows that the Las Vegas wedding is probably not the real desire but the necessity,

Joe Hill Magicians
Introduction
Audiences have at all times throughout history been amazed by illusions performed
for them for the purpose of entertainment by the means of magicians. Some of these
magicians include David Copperfield, who made the Statue of Liberty disappear,
Harry Houdini, who was most famous for his escape tricks, and Robert Houdin, who
would read the audience s mind. In spite of the fact that many of these magicians
appear to have done their magic through some supernatural force, in reality, the
magicians use their sleight of hand in order to change the perspective of the audience.
According to the article, Magic as a Cooperative Deceit, the author states that magic
is an attempt to change the belief of the audience that something out ... Show more

The psychology of magic tricks is also affected from person to person. The
experience of an individual may be different among other individuals based on past
experience and expectations. For example, this article, There s more to magic than
meets the eye includes the illusion of a ball being thrown up; however, the ball
stays in the illusionist s hand. About 68% of people fall for the trick because of
the fact that their expectation is that the ball will go up and their past experience
is the fact that they have seen a ball thrown up numerous times. Furthermore, the
social cuing of the illusionist inspired the social cuing of the audience into
believing the direction of the ball to go up. Consequently, this shows that the
audience of a magician may not all be affected and some may experience no
illusion. In addition, Illusions are based on many things. A good magician uses
The Cooperative Principle . This law basically states that the cause precedes the
effect in time, cause and effect are contiguous in time and place, and there is a
history of regularity in the precedence and contiguity of cause and effect. These
rules may be applied to illusions due to the fact that the magician uses the
cooperation of the audience and their sleight of hand. The cause in a simple trick
along the lines of pulling a rabbit is the magician s sleight of hand and the effect

Like many people who haven t studied literature, if someone asked me what the
theme of a story was, I would have given a synopsis of the story detailing the
actions and characters in it. As I have come to learn, theme is much more than a
distilled retelling of a story. Theme gives a story a deeper meaning. The theme
focuses the story and is the behind the scenes force that propels the story forward. In
other words it gives the story purpose and shape. Theme will attempt to hold all the

She furthers uses an image like the missing pine trees, which are a symbol of
immortality, to bring to life the understanding that death has arrived. When Rhys
uses cold the reader and the character herself realize the meaning of the journey
death. The introduction of cold allows the reader to understand that the journey
has come to an end and is irreversible. Character also builds theme in a story.
According to our text when looking at how characters shape theme you should ask
how do characters make a particular aspect of the underlying area clear? (Clugston,
R 2010) This is a good place to start when looking at Rhys story. The author used
the characters thoughts and feeling to unfold the symbols in the story. The author
also did not give a physical description on the woman, this adds to furthering the
theme of the journey in the story. The woman is no longer a live and therefore she
doesn t need a body. It is clear from the symbols pointed out by the woman that she
is leading us on this journey. As the character reaches the end her journey, we as the
reader does as well. Rhys layers the symbols at the end of the story so the reader
begins to rapidly connect the dots in there meaning.

Markus Zusak s The Messenger is a Bildungsroman, as it incorporates the idea of

into it demonstrates the main character personal growth throughout the novel.
Markus Zusak s The Messenger can be best understood as a Bildungsromanbecause

beginning of the novel and how Ed changed morally and psychologically when he

At the beginning of the novel Ed s mentality about himself is that he s someone who s
directionless and unambitious. Ed starts of at the beginning of the novel

African American And Other Ethnic Groups Incarcerated...
Introduction
When we hear the words justice system we should be thinking about fairness, justice,
honesty, righteousness. However, contrary to what comes to mind in reality the
justice system is rife with inequality, injustice, corruption and dishonestly. The
definition for institutional inequality is the existence of unequal opportunities and
rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group of society
(about.com) and this is what people of color are facing on a daily basis. On this
paper examined the research about the ratio of African American and other ethnic
groups incarcerated versus whites, also how this affects the community, why such a
high percentage of African Americans ages 25 29 are incarcerated and the racial
disparities that exist in the justice system. Historically African Americans have been
discriminated against in the United States and a system of race based hierarchy still
exists. The lower class includes the Blacks and Hispanic population and other so
called minorities. The upper class includes the white population also called majority,
the higher social position of white the population allows for a greater advantage when
it comes to the writing and application of laws that will apply to the majority and
minority population.
II. What is Racial Disparity?
Racial disparity in the criminal justice system exists when the proportion of a racial
or ethnic group within the control of the system is greater than the proportion of such

Assess The Difference Between Anthropocentrism And
Ethical...
Anthropocentrism is the idea that the earth and its resources exists for human
consumption. People who hold this view believe that we ought to protect the earth
for future generations. Anthropocentrism often focuses on fixing the problem of
limited resources through the use of technology rather than a reduction in
consumption.
Biocentrism views animals as important beings. Stereotypically, biocentric s are
against harming other life forms for their own ends many of them are vegetarians or
vegans.
Ecocentrism holds that humans are only one part of the complicated system that is
the earth. Ecocentrism believes that everything has intrinsic value and emphasized
the interconnectedness of all life.
The field of research and activism that focuses on the unequal impact of
environmental pollution and degradation on the poor and people of color is known
as environmental justice.
As you can imagine, there is much debate among environmental ethicists as to
incorporate non humans and environments into normative ethical considerations.
Many of these debates contrast several ethical viewpoints that differ in regard to what
things possess intrinsic value. In this course, an important contrast is between ethical

Biocentrism, as the name implies, expands intrinsic value and moral consideration to
non human living things (animals, and sometimes plants). Like anthropocentrism,
biocentrism in most cases only gives moral consideration to human and non human
individuals, and it is sometimes called moral extensionalism because it simply
extends traditional anthropocentric ethics to non humans. Ecocentrism also affords
intrinsic value to non humans, but as a collectivist ethic, it also extends moral
standing to holistic entities like ecosystems or species. From an ecocentric
perspective, then, both the living and non living members of ecosystems have intrinsic
Pereboom Encounter
Now that it is clear what phenomena is to be investigated, I will turn to sufficient
conditions for the existence of MR. I will be focusing on two accounts of sufficient
conditions. The first being Pereboom s account of MR as ultimate origination or
self determination and the second being Baker s reflective endorsement view.
Pereboom suggests that an agent is morally responsible for an outcome if and only if
that agent was the ultimate cause of that outcome. Worded another way, a person is
not answerable for an action unless they made a free decision at some point in the
causal history of that decision. Fleshing out this point a bit further, it would also be
necessary that the agent, at time of making that free decision, knew or should have...

Before I suggest a scenario where I think the conditions are met, but MR not
found, I should recognise a condition implicit to the four already set out. Baker
requires that in meeting each of the conditions, the agent has a first person
perspective . under first person perspective, it is not enough that, say, agent A
wants B to be hurt, and through manipulation of her arm by another, A hits B. As
Baker puts it, it is not enough that and agent wants someone who is in fact herself
to do an act, she must want it to be herself who punches B. One of the claims Baker
Makes is that a mad scientist could not manipulate another agent into having a first
person perspective. While I disagree, this essay does not have the scope to tackle
that question so I will try to evade a situation where a first person perspective is
implanted .

The situation I would suggest is one where a virus, or even a
peculiarly radioactive rock has lodged itself in Agent A s brain. This object affects
the emotional state of A but does not effect reason, memory, or identity. Under the
influence from this object, and through no other reason agent A becomes incredibly
angry and in this state punches a person B who accidentally bumped into A. A
wanted to punch B and did so because A wanted to want to punch B, and if A had
known that they were under the influence of the object, that would have still been
the case due to the highly emotional state of A at the time. It is important to
remember that the reasoning capacity of A was not removed, merely overridden by
the emotional response. While I am confident that A both meets Baker s conditions
and would not be seen as answerable, due to the justification that she couldn t help it
and that was caused by an abnormality, I will cover three possible
responses.

The first obvious response is that we would see A as answerable
to her action in a case like

How Did The Economy Affect The Mexican Economy
Decades later, another series of events led to a new wave of feminists. In the 1970 s,
Mexico became one of the world s largest oil suppliers to the world market.
International bankers made loans to Mexico, who promptly accepted them, but
sooner than later the interest rates and debt rose to an uncontrollable point. Intending
to boost the country s economy, the Lopez Portillo administration spent vast amounts
of public spending on electricity generation, construction, the mining industry, and
manufacturing. However, the country s debt rose due to the US and other countries
taking advantage of their large amounts of oil. The world oil market collapsed, and

Since husbands were away, the mothers became the heads of the family. Despite
earning less than their male counterparts, women tended to invest their money in the

male presence in the home, the families tended to be smaller, and the family income
was distributed to fewer members. Therefore their family per capita was greater than
when the men were in charge. The economic crisis of the 1980 s caused great harm to

Because many men often migrated to other parts of the country or bordering

Families assimilated to the lack of presence of women at home, generating creative

She gives up adventure and instead marries a rich man named Gray and has
children. Larry, Isobel s former fiancГ©e, refuses to settle down. Although several
characters push him to get a steady job and marry Isobel, he is not interested in
having a job and therefore Isobel refuses to marry him. Instead of working, Larry
wanted to travel the world, take risks, find out what is really out there, and what
God really is before giving up and living a more simplistic life. As the epigraph of the
novel states, The sharp edge of a razor is difficult to pass over. Thus the wise say
the path to salvation is hard. Larry understood that the road he was embarking on
was difficult, but he still decided to take a risk and pass the sharp edge and in my
opinion; Larry Darrell succeeded.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many, like Isobel, would settle for a safer life without risks. However, there are a
few people who would decide to take the risks, and live life dangerously. Larry
Darrell is one these few. After being in the army and witnessing how easy it is to
lose your life, Larry wanted to see what was out in the world and live life to the
fullest extent before settling down. He did not want to become a lawyer or doctor
like Isobel wanted, he wanted something more to find the meaning of
Ardennes Offensive Advantages And Disadvantages
The Allies faced various disadvantages during the Ardennes Offensive: пѓ Since the
Allies had reached the German border after the Normandy landings by this time, they
faced an important intelligence disadvantage. The Germans used only telephones and
tele printers within the German borders. Radios were not used as the Allies had
cracked Enigma by then. пѓ The Allied aircraft reconnaissance suffered due to the
autumn fog and withheld them from making optimum use of air power especially the
tank busting Typhoons of the RAF or Mustang fighters from the USAAF which
would have been used against German tanks. Though the weather was typical for the
Ardennes in winter, the ground was hard enough for military vehicles to cross and
this suited the armored attack Hitler envisaged. пѓ Germans used charcoal instead of
wood to reduce smoke detection. The Battle of Bulge Military Situation maps: 16th
December 1944 On the morning of 16th December, the Germans launched an attack
on the Allied forces through the Ardennes. The plan for Dietrich s 6th Army was for
the three infantry divisions to punch a hole on either side of Udenbrath, and then
swing north west to form a hard shoulder facing north while the four armored
divisions drove through the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lack of fuel and manpower on the western front made it inevitable had the German
offensive would fall through unless Allied supplies could be captured intact and
that was a long shot in any case. Hitler had been defeated by Allied air superiority,
by the defenders of Bastogne, by poor coordination among his own forces
(especially between the Fifth and Sixth Panzer Divisions) and by a new weapon,
the proximity fuse which could make a shell go off at a distance from its target
through the use of radars. However, in the end it was his extreme military belief that
attack is the best defense , that proved fatal to the German
Autonomy, Social Class In Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
I from that hour set to work a fresh, resolved to pioneer my way through every
difficulty. I toiled hard, and my success was proportionate to my efforts.
(Bronte,81) demonstrates the strict resolution Jane Eyre lives her life by. In Jane
Eyre by Charlotte Bronte Jane becomes an orphan at a very young age and passes
from place to place until she arrives at Thornfield and meets Mr. Rochester. She can
not love him because of his social standing but comes back to him after hearing of
his injuries and death of his wife Bertha. In this literary work Bronte uses themes
such as religion, love versus autonomy, social class in Jane Eyre.
Charlotte Bronte was born April 21, 1816. Her mom Maria died in 1821 leaving
her to mother her remaining siblings after the death of her two eldest sisters
Elizabeth and Anne as well. Her father Patrick was left to deal with the aftermath
and decided it was best to send his daughters to Daughters of Poor Clergymen
School at Cowan Bridge in 1824. With Bronte being left as the eldest and a mother
figure, it has been concluded that she sees herself as an orphan at times because of
her loss. Her experiences at Clergyman s Daughters School at Cowan Bridge break
helps shape her account in Jane Eyre at Lowood. Historical Background) ... Show

After the deaths Bronte s father made her come back home in hope of saving her
from the devastating disease. (Charlotte Bronte: 1816 1855) Bronte uses this
experience to write about in Jane Eyre when there was a typhus outbreak in Lowood
...into the Orphan Asylum, breathed typhus through its crowded school room and
dormitory, and ere seminary into a hospital... (Bronte, 82) which simulates the death
of her sisters. In the novel Jane is not sent home but instead is forced to endure the
heartbreak of losing her closest friend Helen which can be seen as a sister.
Molecular Biology And Biotechnology ( Biotech )
CARBON SOURCE The lignocellulosic hydrolysate will be prepared by the
National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH, UPLB)
from sweet sorghum bagasse subjected to pretreatment followed by sulfuric acid
(0.75 wt% and pH 1.1) hydrolysis at 100в€ C.
BACTERIAL STRAIN
Cupriavidus necator is a bacterial strain that is commonly used in accumulating poly
3 hydroxybutyrate (PHB), the most common type of PHA. It is most effective when
the amount of carbon source present is in excess compared to the other essential
nutrients in the medium like nitrogen, phosphorus or oxygen (Lopez Abelairas,
Garcia Torreiro, Lu Chau, Lema, Steinbuchel, 2015). This bacterial strain will be pre
cultured from within 24 hours in a 500 mL Erlenmeyer flask under 30в€ C and 150
revolutions per minute (rpm) without the addition of other carbon source (Martinez,
Bertin, Scoma, Rebecchi, Braunegg, Fava, 2015). The C. necator culture will be
stored at 80в€ C in a 2 mL cryovial containing 300 ВµL of glycerol with 20 grams
per liter (g/L) of xylose (Cesario, Raposo, de Almeida, van Keulen, Ferreira, da
Fonseca, 2014). In this experiment, dual phase strategy will be performed. This will
employ that two different media will be prepared for the first and the second
process. The first process will involve the cell growth or the balanced growth phase.
On the other hand, the second process will involve the accumulation of PHA. Both
media that will be prepared will limit the ammonia (NH3)
How Did Henry Viii Influence The Government Of The
Tudor...
The reign of the Tudor family is prominent for many occurrences with two
monarchs standing out Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. But the 118 years of Tudor
England have a great deal to thank Henry VII (also known as Henry Tudor) as he
got them off to a stable and powerful start (history learning site). He is mostly
notable for ending the dynastic wars known as the Wars of the Roses and founded
the House of Tudors.
Henry VII was born in England at a time when it was divided by a civil war known
as The War of the Roses. The War of the Roses was fought between supporters of
two rival branches of the Royal House of Plantagenet. King Edward III of England
(House of Plantagenet) had many sons. John of Gaunt, his third son, became the 1st
Duke of Lancaster (House of Lancaster) and Edmund of Langley, his fourth son,
became the 1st Duke of York (House of York). The conflict stems... Show more

Morton s Fork , named after John Morton, was a method of ensuring that nobles paid
increased
Yanez !4 taxes(The Columbia Encyclopedia). Those nobles who spent little must
have saved much, which meant they could afford the tax. Henry strengthened the
government and his own power, at the expense of the nobles. The English monarchy
had never been one of the wealthiest of Europe and even more so after the War of the
Roses. Through his monetary strategy, Henry managed to steadily accumulate wealth
during his reign, so that by the time he died, he left a considerable fortune to his son,
Henry VIII(Gordon, Marsden).
Henry VII was clearly a successful king. He had several goals that he had
accomplished by the end of his reign. He had established a new dynasty after 30
years of struggle, he had strengthened the judicial system as well as the treasury and
had successfully denied all the other claimants to his throne(Francis, Bacon). The
monarchy that he left to his son was a fairly secure one and most definitely a wealthy

  • 2. Effective Workplace Communication Listening and Effective Workplace Communication James Humes, a former presidential speech writer, stated that, the art of communication is the language of leadership (Leading Thoughts, 2010). Communication is an essential process that is common in the workplace. Everyone in the workplace especially leaders must communicate with others. Ideas, conversations, disagreements, and commitments can all be exchanged through communication. Anyone can communicate but it takes discipline and skills to effectively communicate. These skills can include feedback, presentation, non verbal communication, and listening. Listening is the most valuable skills to effective workplace communication because it enhances job effectiveness, relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a guest calls down to the front desk and complains about their room the front desk clerk needs to actively listen to know how to respond. A response may include sending up an item that was requested by the guest or escalating the problem to upper management. Intently listening to the message that is presented will help employees and managers respond in an appropriate manner. A response to listening does not always have to verbal. A non verbal response like smiling or nodding can be an appropriate response. It does not matter if the response is verbal or non verbal, listening will help to ensure that the response is effective. People tend to assume that the most important part of the pyramid is the top but they are incorrect. The bottom of the pyramid is the most important part of the pyramid. The bottom of the pyramid is the foundation on which the other blocks stand. If there was a pyramid to represent communication skills, listening would be the foundation or the base for communication. Communication skills build on each other and the skill that is used for the moment in time is the tip of the pyramid. Truly effective communication involves more than just expressing yourself clearly. It also requires effective listening (Brown, 2009). Listening helps to strengthen the other communication skills like feedback and presentation. It is hard to present to an audience without understanding the audience s needs. To understand the
  • 3. Crisis Of The 14th Century Nearly ten thousand years ago the first recorded civilization emerged in the world. Between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, (Mesopotamia) lived the ancient Sumerian peoples. Since then, time has seen the creation and decimation of thousands of countries and economies. In this time, common political structures consisted of a powerful top down ruling where either pharaohs, dictators, or kings held all or most of the power. After ten thousand years of trial and error, the American capitalistic system of the last several hundred years has propelled civilizations across the world in an increasingly exponential positive direction. The prowess of capitalism, as opposed to other systems like socialism and communism, can be proved through philosophy, psychology and history. The crisis of the 14th century seen the infantile implementation of capitalistic thought. The crisis brought social upheaval, plagues and natural disasters to areas across Europe. There had been a dramatic drop in population during this era, In little over a century, from 1340 to 1450, however, the western European population fell from 54 million to 37 million, a 31 percent drop in only a century (Mises). During this time there had been, widespread famine, reports of cannibalism, and epidemics (Uwbg). The 14th century also seen the disastrous effects of the black plague which speculatively claimed the

His tranquil literary style has given these books a sense of rawness to the emotions his characters feel in his books, and the fact that Mark Twain is able to transmit these emotions that goes to the roots of human nature, through only pieces of paper is one of the many reasons why he is an author that almost everybody knows of. • 27. Managing Threats At St Peter s Home Essay Managing Threats to Data At St Peter s we take many steps to ensure the safety of our data. To protect our computers from viruses we use up to date antivirus software. It is important that your antivirus software is up to date because ne viruses are always being made and discovered. When they find a new virus the antivirus software becomes programmed to protect your computer from them therefore the more you update your antivirus the more protected you are as your computer can protect you from more viruses. At St Peter s our computers are updated as soon as new software is released. In order to ensure no important work is lost St Peter s does a backup of the school server every hour. This data is then stored off site so then if an accident such as a fire were to occur at school our data would be protected and we would be able to recover our work. In order to stop our school logins from being hacked we have a unique username and password to access our information. We change this password every 4 weeks this is important because if somebody does find out your password they cannot use it for an extended period of time. At St Peter s we have a backup generator so that if a power cut does occur we can still run the server. Another way to ensure your data is protected is by encrypting your important files, this allows you to put a password on them so that nobody else can access or alter them. It gives the reader a more in depth look at the things they always expected were happening in Nevada but were never concerned enough about to do the research. While I already knew most of the information in the essay, Didion presented it in such an entertaining, sarcastic manner that I was never bored. Without coming right out and saying just what she thought of the industry she told us exactly how she felt about the Las Vegas spur of the moment way of life by choosing her words very carefully. Some of these magicians include David Copperfield, who made the Statue of Liberty disappear, Harry Houdini, who was most famous for his escape tricks, and Robert Houdin, who would read the audience s mind. In spite of the fact that many of these magicians appear to have done their magic through some supernatural force, in reality, the magicians use their sleight of hand in order to change the perspective of the audience. According to the article, Magic as a Cooperative Deceit, the author states that magic is an attempt to change the belief of the audience that something out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The psychology of magic tricks is also affected from person to person. The experience of an individual may be different among other individuals based on past experience and expectations. For example, this article, There s more to magic than meets the eye includes the illusion of a ball being thrown up; however, the ball stays in the illusionist s hand. About 68% of people fall for the trick because of the fact that their expectation is that the ball will go up and their past experience is the fact that they have seen a ball thrown up numerous times. Furthermore, the social cuing of the illusionist inspired the social cuing of the audience into believing the direction of the ball to go up. Consequently, this shows that the audience of a magician may not all be affected and some may experience no illusion. In addition, Illusions are based on many things. A good magician uses The Cooperative Principle . This law basically states that the cause precedes the effect in time, cause and effect are contiguous in time and place, and there is a history of regularity in the precedence and contiguity of cause and effect. These rules may be applied to illusions due to the fact that the magician uses the cooperation of the audience and their sleight of hand. The cause in a simple trick along the lines of pulling a rabbit is the magician s sleight of hand and the effect

As I have come to learn, theme is much more than a distilled retelling of a story. Theme gives a story a deeper meaning. When Rhys uses cold the reader and the character herself realize the meaning of the journey death. The introduction of cold allows the reader to understand that the journey has come to an end and is irreversible. Character also builds theme in a story. According to our text when looking at how characters shape theme you should ask how do characters make a particular aspect of the underlying area clear? (Clugston, R 2010) This is a good place to start when looking at Rhys story. The author used the characters thoughts and feeling to unfold the symbols in the story. The author also did not give a physical description on the woman, this adds to furthering the theme of the journey in the story. The woman is no longer a live and therefore she doesn t need a body. It is clear from the symbols pointed out by the woman that she is leading us on this journey. As the character reaches the end her journey, we as the reader does as well. Rhys layers the symbols at the end of the story so the reader begins to rapidly connect the dots in there meaning. Running Head: Themepage 3 References Bain,T. People who hold this view believe that we ought to protect the earth for future generations. Anthropocentrism often focuses on fixing the problem of limited resources through the use of technology rather than a reduction in consumption. Biocentrism views animals as important beings. Stereotypically, biocentric s are against harming other life forms for their own ends many of them are vegetarians or vegans. Ecocentrism holds that humans are only one part of the complicated system that is the earth. Ecocentrism believes that everything has intrinsic value and emphasized the interconnectedness of all life. The field of research and activism that focuses on the unequal impact of environmental pollution and degradation on the poor and people of color is known as environmental justice. Pereboom suggests that an agent is morally responsible for an outcome if and only if that agent was the ultimate cause of that outcome. Before I suggest a scenario where I think the conditions are met, but MR not found, I should recognise a condition implicit to the four already set out. Baker requires that in meeting each of the conditions, the agent has a first person perspective . under first person perspective, it is not enough that, say, agent A wants B to be hurt, and through manipulation of her arm by another, A hits B. As Baker puts it, it is not enough that and agent wants someone who is in fact herself to do an act, she must want it to be herself who punches B. One of the claims Baker Makes is that a mad scientist could not manipulate another agent into having a first person perspective. While I disagree, this essay does not have the scope to tackle that question so I will try to evade a situation where a first person perspective is implanted .

The situation I would suggest is one where a virus, or even a peculiarly radioactive rock has lodged itself in Agent A s brain. This object affects the emotional state of A but does not effect reason, memory, or identity. Under the influence from this object, and through no other reason agent A becomes incredibly angry and in this state punches a person B who accidentally bumped into A. A wanted to punch B and did so because A wanted to want to punch B, and if A had known that they were under the influence of the object, that would have still been the case due to the highly emotional state of A at the time. It is important to remember that the reasoning capacity of A was not removed, merely overridden by the emotional response. While I am confident that A both meets Baker s conditions and would not be seen as answerable, due to the justification that she couldn t help it and that was caused by an abnormality, I will cover three possible responses.

The first obvious response is that we would see A as answerable to her action in a case like
