Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins
Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins It may be said that the institution of
power has always been a prevalent force in our society. It is a large part of what holds society
together; without it civilized society as we know it would not exist. The functions of power range
from keeping crime at bay to the more commonplace aspects such as allowing patrons to be served in
a restaurant. The notion of power is almost invisible until further analyzed; it is something that we
perceive as being simple and therefore take for granted. Yet there are so many intricacies in regard to
power that still remain to be seen. In Chapter Three of Sociological Insight by Randall Collins, the
author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet some forms of power are certainly more effective than others. The key to realizing power most
effectively lies in the acknowledgement of occasional concession and knowing when to giv(e) in on
something less important (74). For instance, once again consider the example of a mother and child.
Assume that the child wants to go over to a friend s house to play, but he has promised his mother that
he would do his chores that afternoon. The child begs his mother to let him go and play, assuring her
that he will do his chores immediately upon arriving home. The mother concedes, and the child is
happy. If we are to analyze this situation in terms of gains and losses, the mother has gained points
with her son and has essentially suffered no loss the chores will still be done, only a few hours later.
Throughout the entire scenario, the mother s power is evident, both explicit and implicitly; the son
does not forget that his mother has the ultimate say in what he does, and in letting her son go she has
not only made him happy but is also asserting her power as a parent. In sum, the mother has most
effectively realized her power by knowing when to sacrifice something that is of lesser importance
while gaining more long term benefits. Another way that power may be asserted is by the influences
of certain situations, namely

Marsden s Analysis
Women now grow up in a community where their choices can be made by themselves. Women no
longer have to seek their father s or husband input. Still to this day we are treated in certain
circumstances as inferior to the male population (Marsden, 2012). Beside this women have come so
far because they no longer have no control over their choices, their choices are in their own hand and
they are able to do what they wish (Marsden, 2012). For example in class we have talked about the
electoral system (Heritz, 2016b). For the longest time only British born men 21 and over were eligible
to vote (Heritz, 2016b). Women fought peacefully to get their right to vote so that they could have a
say. This relates to Marsden s novel because she discusses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

constitution act from 1867 to 1982 ended up being completely different acts since society evolved so

act now in the 21st century and compare the differences from the first constitution act in 1867 several
people would not believe that the act had changed that much over 150 years. The 1982 Canadian

‘After Midnight’ makes you feel as if you were living in...
After Midnight makes you feel as if you were living in Harlem during the 30s.
BY VANESSA FARIA
The by gone era of 1920s and 30s, jam packed with illicit alcohol, street cars and loud noises, are
often remembered as a time when music was more important than content. If that is true, then After
Midnight is definitely a product of its time.
After midnight is an effervescent new Lincoln center jazz venue performed at the Brooks Atkinson
Theatre. The production will mimic the highly acclaimed musical, Cotton Club Parade by inviting
special celebrities to take the stage, starring American idol winner Fantasia Barrino, Emmy nominee
Dulé Hill and Tony winner Adriane Lenox. It was an era when swing was big in Harlem, after
Midnight is a jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a present day twist, everything about the plot and the characters has been recycled from the old
days. The performers are energetic and smiling all through the play and there are many things that
bring a smile to even the weariest faces, such as balloons, trumpets, tap dancers and a bit of romantic
comedy; it all creates stage magic. Another key component that adds a lot of character to this modern
spin of the Harlem Renaissance is the exceptional costumes by a Cuban designer, Isabel Toledo; she
found enough sparkle, feathers and beads to dress a flapper army.
Although the true stars of this play are the performers from the Jazz at Lincoln Center All stars, it s
clear that the stage gets caught on fire when Fantasia Barrino performed I Can t Give You Anything
but Love, her smooth yet fierce voice embraced Dorothy Fields and Jimmy McHugh classic with
obvious fondness. Isabel Toledo evidently likes Fantasia s curvy body, designing to her a well fitting,
electric blue, lampshade skirt. She also interacts with the public when she sang the lesser known Zaz
Zuh Zaz (by Cab Calloway and Harry White), inviting the public to be a part of this fantastic Jazz
extravaganza.
It feels like the show, did not want to be seen as an old copy, and indeed, the tricks there are self
explanatory. The notion of combining old school with today s era has an obvious effect of spicing up
the foundation. Yet, it does not eliminate the thought that the cast could ve

Steal The Goldfish Essay
This story is about a young boy name Yonatan that wants to become famous. So he decided to make a
poignant documentary about the secret longings of everyday Israelans. Yonatan knocks on every door
asking people what would you wish if were to have three wishes. While he was knocking on people s
door he came across a elderly immigrant faded tattoo man named Sergei. Sergei is from Russia where
he struggled with having groups of KGBs breaking their home. Once Yoni welcomed his self into the
man s home he noticed a goldfish. Not just any goldfish, a wish granting goldfish. Sergei thought Yoni
was going to steal the goldfish so he murdered Yoni with a burner from the stove. When he murdered

In the story Sergei has a goldfish that grants wishes. Sergei has a total of three wishes but used two
already. The first wish that the goldfish granted was to cure Sergei s sister. His sister had lung cancer.
The goldfish cured his sister in an instant. The second wish Sergei used on Sveta s son. Sveta is Sergei
s ex girlfriend. What Sergei doesn t know is that Sveta is now dating a Moroccon cop. The third wish
he wants to save it for something special. Since the goldfish grants wishes other folktales has

Multiplexing Optical Oam Modes Of A Ring Fiber
Multiplexing optical Oam modes in a Ring Fiber The Multiplexing OAM modes in a ring fiber are
conceptually, LP Modes of higher order are composed of two fiber Engine Modes with different
propagation constants. These two Modes Departs (Walk off) while propagating along the fiber,
resulting in a highly Distorted Mode profile at the Detection End. In Contrast, when we combine two
fiber engine modes properly the OAM Modes Can be Obtained. Compared with LP modes, OAM
modes can better maintain the mode profile after propagating through a certain length of fiber due to
the reason, these two fiber Engine Modes have the same propagation Constant, they will not undergo
any intrinsic mode Walk off. Redundant Radially higher order modes can easily be excited in Multi
Mode step Index fiber, thus raising a strict restriction to the mode coupling. Changes in Launching
Condition like mode Spot size or deviation from the center, Variation of angle, can excite higher order
modes in radial direction, resulting in serious cross talk. On the Contrary, a properly designed high
index single ring fiber can support only the radially fundamental modes. It leads to the potential
Reduction of the crosstalk induced during mode excitement. To multiplex multiple OAM modes
simultaneously, the number of the Eigen modes supported by the fiber should be increased by
increasing either the core radius or the refractive index difference between the core and cladding. In
this Theory, one dimensional mode

Brief Summary Of The Movie Big Fish
The movie Big Fish was produced in 2003. Big Fish is about a dying man, Edward, and his son, Will.
The movie consists of several flashbacks following Edward Blooms life and his adventures. It shows
how Edward and his son s relationship was very strained and then how it was resolved in the end.
There were also a great number of fantasy aspects in this movie that make the movie very unique.
These fantasies are mainly in the stories that Edward tells his son. They show how Edward Bloom
lived his life and how he made life choices knowing how he would die. Edward Bloom and his son s
relationship was not very strong. Edward was always out of town because of his salesman job. When
Edward and his son, Will, actually talked Edward would tell his son stories about his life and his
adventures. As Will grew older, he did not believe the fantasies that were in the stories that he told.
Edward was very suspicious of his father too. He was certain that he was having an affair because he

California Bill Would Reduce Traffic Ticket Fines for the Poor
Stephen Yang
Many people pay traffic fines in California, but not everyone is impacted in the same way. According
to a new report from the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area [1],
traffic fines in California have an outsize effect on low income drivers and people of color.
And those consequences are not just monetary. Unpaid tickets can result in additional fines. Failure to
pay those fines can lead to suspension or loss of license, and even jail time for some if they continue
to drive without a license. As a result, over 4 million California drivers were without a license in 2015
[1].
Because of disparities in policing, the money issues wind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some cases, the inability to pay drove their traffic debt into the thousands of dollars.
When Aaron Cutchon of Sacramento was laid off from his job at an auto body shop, he could no
longer afford to pay for two traffic tickets he got for driving in a carpool lane. His license was
suspended, and he had to stop attending classes at a Napa junior college where he was working toward
an associate s degree [6].
Eunika Smith of San Diego said her license was suspended because she couldn t pay off her tickets.
She just got a new job at a hospital and needs to drive for work. And for people already barely making
it, not having a driver s license only intensified their burden [7].
The issue garnered national attention after the U.S. Department of Justice found similar laws in
Ferguson, Missouri, burdened poor residents with crippling debt, according to a 2015 report [8]. In
California, about 488,000 people had suspended driver s licenses for unpaid traffic tickets or missing
related court appearances as of March 2017, the most recent number the department could provide,
DMV spokesman Artemio Armenta said [9].
People s lives are unraveled by one traffic ticket. People couldn t get their medicine. People couldn t
take their kids to school. People couldn t drive to their work. Extraordinary stories like these

Priest are the most evil enemies to have, they are the most impotent. Their impotence make their hate

The aqueous solution of silver nitrate, AgNO₃, when added to the aqueous solution of potassium

analysis, the precipitates were extracted from the liquid onto filter paper through the use of vacuum
filtration. The purpose of this aspect of the experiment is to be able to to calculate the molar mass of
the unknown compound precipitate to compare to the known compound of KCl. Due to there being
excess compound remaining in the vacuum, centrifuge tubes were utilized to further extract the

When holding the wire in the Bunsen flame, which had been previously dipped in the unknown
solution, the edge of the flame appeared to emit a pale green color, which would indicate that our
unknown sample would contain the element barium. This conclusion was incorrect and upon redoing
the Flame test and making the unknown solution more concentrated by adding less water, it was found
that the edge of the flame was actually pale violet in color, indicating that the element in our sample
was potassium. Additionally, in week 1, our group encountered another error while analyzing the
properties of our unknown sample through the anion tests. The two cation tests; Flame and
Ammonium concluded that the first element in our compound was in fact potassium. The problem
arose when conducting the anion test to determine whether the unknown sample was additionally
composed of either a sulfate or a chloride. Initially, our sample tested positive for both sulfate and
chloride due the formations of white precipitates. These results indicated that the unknown sample
would be potassium sulfate, but redoing the experimental test again led to the actual conclusion of a
negative result for sulfate due to the absence of a white precipitate. With only a positive result for
chloride, our unknown sample was in fact potassium chloride. Human error throughout the process of

Techniques and Their Effects- the Truman Show
The Truman Show In the film The Truman Show , directed by Peter Weir, many techniques are
strategically used to position the audience to respond emotionally to Truman Burbank. Techniques
such as lighting, music, camera shots and angles are used in three specific scenes throughout the film
co ordinated by the shows director Christof. He uses these techniques to encourage the show s
audience to believe that what they are watching is unscripted and real. The first scene Introducing
Truman Day 10,909 is an example of one of these scenes as it uses techniques to introduce to the
audience Truman s world as one that is cheerful, happy and bright. As Truman gets ready for his day at

When Truman does not walk into his workplace the show s audience respond with excitement and a
sense of pride. High angle tracking shots are used as cameras follow Truman and his every step,
unable to anticipate his next move. The reverse shot in the side mirror of a car closely follow Truman
and as several people obstruct the view it appears as if Truman is trying to get away and disappear
from the scrutiny of the cameras. Truman tentatively surveys the area and for the first time listens to
conversations around him. Close up shots of several conversations position the audience to also
question those around Truman. These techniques used position the audience to respond with
enthusiasm and delight towards Truman and his suspicions about the world he lives in. It is no longer
seen as perfect. In the third scene Truman s Dad Returns , the atmosphere is depressing and dark as
Truman finally realises what is happening. The lighting is bright and happy as the police return Meryl
and Truman to their home. Meryl reflects this bright lighting with her smile and belief that she is in
control of the situation. Whereas Truman is slouched over in his chair provoking the audience to feel
sorry for his sadness and his dark and gloomy expression. When the camera focuses back on Meryl,
however the audience is positioned to feel enlightened by her smile and positive attitude. As Truman

Significance Of The Presidential Election Of 1892
A. Plan of Investigation
The investigation aims to evaluate the significance of third party candidates in the US presidential
election of 1892. In 1912, Teddy Roosevelt famously split the vote of the Republican party as a third
party candidate, and the investigation resolves to assess whether a third party candidate changed the
outcome of the election in 1892. The investigation will focus mainly on the influence of one particular
candidate from the Populist Party, James B. Weaver, as he won several electoral votes but will also
include John Bidwell of the Prohibition Party who also drew in votes, although he did not gain an
electoral vote. The candidate from the Socialist Labor Party will be excluded from the investigation as
he did not play a significant role in the election. A focus of the investigation will be of the political
views of those associated with the Populist party and Socialist party as well as why they chose the a
third party ticket over the major party candidates running. Two sources, Populism and Political
Realignment by L. Patrick Hughes and Populist Party Platform (1892) published by the Omaha
Morning Herald, will be evaluated for use in the investigation to demonstrate the purposes, values,
and limitations of the sources in context of the investigation.

and the Democratic Party as he won with a margin of 400,000 votes over

Evolutionary Game Theory ( Egt )
Evolutionary Game Theory (EGT) is a new field of study that combines the principles of game theory,
biology, evolution and non linear dynamics. Unlike game theory that studies and analyzes a rational
behavior based on the actions of others, evolutionary game theory analysis is based on settings in
which an individual is mainly not reasonable and even something cannot explicitly make decisions.
An individual is given a strategy rather than choosing it. EGT will then present which forms of
behaviors will persist in the population and which will be driven out.
John Maynard Smith and G. R. Price first expressed the idea of evolutionary game theory to explain
biological phenomena by observing the fitness of an organism based on the ... Show more content on

Each population is then partitioned into groups.
Agent i has population groups: Ei1, Ei2, ..., Eik Individuals in a group Eij would all play the same
strategy Si.
Members of the populations will play against each other randomly. A group of individuals belonging
to the same sub population that performs the best would grow and the others will shrink. This
performance will be repeated indefinitely. Ideally, the evolution will lead to an idea of a stable state
for a population.
s1, ..., sn ∈ S are the pure strategies available. We define the column vector x to represent the
probabilities of playing strategy si. A represents the payoff matrix. A player using strategy x against an
opponent using strategy y will have the payoff xTAy
3. Evolutionary Stable Strategies
The idea of Nash Equilibrium in EGT is represented by an evolutionary stable strategy (ESS). If the
evolution of a population converges to this stable state, then it will remain there. Given a whole
population using strategy S that is evolutionarily stable, any small group of invaders using a different
strategy T will eventually shrink and fade over multiple generations. This group of invaders will have
strictly lower fitness than the initial population. In order for S to be evolutionarily stable, the payoff to
using this strategy S against the same strategy S played by others must be at least as large as the

Compare And Contrast The Goblin Of Eromas And The Crucible
The best way to avoid becoming a scapegoat is to find one. Warren Eyster writer of The Goblin of
Eros. Everyone has at least told one lie about someone to escape consequence. It could be done by
politicians, your friends, siblings, and you. You pass such lies and rumors, in result the innocent will
never be seen as innocent. They will always have this heinous act under their name. The Crucible is a
story filled with plot twist, revenge, love and passion. Salem, a town in Massachusetts, is filled with
juicy secrets untold, until some girls accused people of doing Witchcraft and working with the devil.
In the end many people are executed because the court does not believe them. History repeats itself
once again. In a similar case three men, called the West Memphis 3, were accused of killing three 8
year old boys. Steven Branch, Michael Moore and Christopher Byers will all striped down of thier
clothes and were killed. Damien Echols, Jesse Misskelley, and Jason Baldwin were all charged with
murder 30 days after case was brought up. They confessed and pleaded innocent but there was so
much evidence against them. Both cases have taught our society many things. The Crucible and the
West Memphis 3 both have people bringing up false rumors about each other, testimonies were faked,
the accused never got the proper justice. People are interrogated for hours and hours, and finally
confess what needs to be heard. The rumors spread and has been created as evidence against the

Scene Analysis Of Goodfellas
For my scene analysis, I will be talking about the scenes in Martin Scorsese s film, Goodfellas that
take place inside the nightclub. The film portrays the true story of mobster Henry Hill (played by Ray
Liotta) who grows up in the mob and works hard to advance himself through the ranks. He enjoys his
life of money and luxury, but is oblivious to the horror that he causes. During the film, the mobsters
spend a lot of their time enjoying themselves at a nightclub they frequent called the Copacabana . In
Goodfellas, the Copacabana is a high class nightclub littered with mafia gangsters and low key
lighting with a red tint and a Hawaiian theme. The scenes were shot by cinematographer, Michael
Ballhaus. Inside the club, the lighting is primarily dark with a tint of red which appears to be coming
from the practicals seen within the shots. This is clearly to give off a dark mafia vibe within the setting
of the film. The DP wants the audience to have a sense of slight discomfort within the nightclub and to
foreshadow the dark events that take place throughout the rest of the film. The style of lighting
displays the mafia lifestyle as something that is filled with murder, deception, and constant fear .
Bright lighting is only used during happy events during the film such as Henry and Karen s wedding
and to give off positive vibes for that moment. The scenes inside the nightclub seem to have a lighting
ratio of around 8:1, so it s accurate to say the setting appeared pretty

Jean Piagets Theory
Throughout history, many people have made many contributions to the school of psychology. One
individual is that of Jean Piaget and his theories on the cognitive development stages. Jean Piaget was
born in Neuchatel, Switzerland, where he studied at the university and received a doctorate in biology
at the age of 22. Following college he became very interested in psychology and began to research and
studies of the subject. With his research Piaget created a broad theoretical system for the development
of cognitive abilities. His work, in this way, was much like that of Sigmund Freud, but Piaget
emphasized the ways that children think and acquire knowledge. Piaget referred to his theory as
genetic epistemology. This is defined as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition , children use animistic thinking which is the tendency to endow events and objects with
lifelike attributes. The stage of concrete operations is so named because in this period children operate
and act on the concrete, real, and perceivable world of objects and events. Egocentric thought is
replaced by operational thought, which involves dealing with a wide array of information outside the
child. Therefore, children can now see things from someone else s perspective. Children in this stage
begin to use limited logical thought and processes and are able to order and group things in classes on
the basis of common characteristics. The child is able to reason and to follow rules and regulations.
They are able to regulate themselves , and they begin to develop a moral sense and a code of values.
Conservation is the ability to recognize that, although the shape of objects may change, the mass and
amount stay the same. For example, if you put the same amount of liquid in two containers the child
may think there is more in the taller cylinder. Children also begin to understand reversibility, which is
the capacity to understand the relationship between things. They begin to realize that one thing can
turn into another and back again. The most important sign that children are still in the preoperational
stage is that they have not achieved conservation or reversibility. Dealing with

Odysseus Fighting For Justice In Homer sOdyssey
In Homer s Odyssey, towards the beginning, Homer uses the specific epithet raider of cities to
illuminate the negative side of Odysseus when he plundered without any self control. Later, while
Odysseus is fighting for justice by killing the suitors, Homer narrates, And Odysseus raider of cities
struck Eurydamas down (418). When Odysseus is fulfilling his revenge against the suitors, he is still
described as a raider of cities by Homer. Now, since Odysseus is fighting in the name of justice
against the sinful suitors, is Homer still using the epithet in a negative way? Or is Homer using the
epithet to express a more positive aspect of Odysseus? Moreover, does Homer emphasize that the
raider of cities has changed with respect to his self possession? Homer illuminates the transformation
in the raider of cities due to his mastery of self possession. The change in Odysseus mercifulness
towards innocent women accentuates his grasp on self possession. Before, Odysseus did not show
mercy towards anyone, especially women. When his army stormed a town, he himself states, Plunder
we took, and we enslaved the women, to make...equal shares to all (146). When Odysseus enslaves the
women, Homer seems to particularly emphasize the negative quality of mercilessness in him as a
raider of cities. Odysseus does not feel any compassion when he enslaves innocent women handing
them off to men as if they are objects. Moreover, Odysseus plunders and enslaves without any self
control, which highlights that he is glorifying and enjoying himself. Destroying a city, killing many
people, and raping innocent women evidently shows the immense amount of self possession that
Odysseus completely lacks. Later on, Odysseus seems to change his stance on mercy. After he kills
every suitor, Odysseus tells Eurykleia, To glory over slain men is no piety...Your part is now to tell me
of the women...who dishonored me, and the innocent (422). Homer accentuates the change in
Odysseus with respect to his mercifulness towards innocent women. Rather than disregarding innocent
women, he now differentiates between them and the dishonorable. Furthermore, he himself says that it
is impious to glory over murdered men, which reveals the transformation

Pros And Disadvantages Of ORM Impedence Mismatching
When to non relate
While relational databases are great, they do come with trade offs. One of those is ORM Impedence
Mismatching, because relational databases were not initially created with the OOP languages in mind.
The best way to avoid this issue is to create your database schema with referential integrity at its core.
So, when using a relational database with an OOP (like Ruby), you have to think about how to set up
your primary and foreign keys, the use of constraints (including the cascade delete and update), and
how you write your migrations.
But, if you re dealing with a phenomenally huge amount of data, it can be way too tedious, and the
probability of error (in the form of an ORM Impedance Mismatch issue) increases. In that situation ...

This means you need to perform multiple queries and join the data manually within your code and that
can get very ugly, very fast.
Since Mongo doesn t automatically treat operations as transactions the way a relational database does,
you must manually choose to create a transaction and then manually verify it, manually commit it or
roll it back. Even the documentation on the MongoDB site warns you that without taking some
potentially time consuming precautions, and since documents can be fairly complex and nested, the
success or failure of a database operation cannot be all or nothing. To put it simply, some operations
will succeed while others fail.
Of course, this all brings us back to the beginning; knowing how to ask exactly the right questions in
order to effectively whiteboard your data model. It s this key step that will allow you to determine the
best route for you regarding your application s flow. Taking the time to pinpoint the right questions
will serve as a solid guide when choosing the programming language to write your application in, and

The American Dream Of Home Ownership
Too many Americans have fallen victim to the crisis that has become the norm for our citizens these
days. Lenders no longer want to work with individuals who have gone through the foreclosure process
and for many it is not only their homes they lose. Some have lost their jobs and/or families, others fall
into a deep depression and worst of all some have taken their own lives. An alternative would be for
lenders to add a true customer service department which is not based on pay or get out, but is
counseling based to keep Americans in the American Dream of home ownership. This would not only
keep their customers for future business with new home loans, but would be noticed by neighbors and
the community who are appreciative their home values are not decreasing. The lenders would counsel
them through the sale by assisting them with getting the most they can for their home. By getting local
community organizations involved to help with home repairs and curb appeal. Once the home is
market ready and a dollar amount has been reached for these repairs the home owner will have to
volunteer time and/or resources to assist another person going through the same situation. This would
not only help the homeowner but will keep homes in the area selling at a fair market value and not
bring down the values in their neighborhood. The assistance provided by the lenders and assistance
from the community will help build their self confidence and make them feel like they are not alone.

Shanghai Culture And Modern Chinese Culture In The Late...
There is an old saying in China: two thousand years of history to see the city of xi an, one thousand
years of history to see Beijing, one hundred years of history to see Shanghai. As the epitome of
modern Chinese history, Shanghai has grown into a modern international metropolis. In the rapid
economic development, Shanghai has not abandoned the traditional Chinese characteristics of the
Shanghai culture, but instead has integrated the traditional folk customs and urban customs
perfect. The bustling Shanghai is full of its unique cultural charm, and its internationalization,
modernization, and time style labels are also attracting more and more people.
Shanghai, a historic and cultural city, is famous for its Shanghai culture and Longtang culture. The
Shanghai culture is a style of Chinese art present in the late 19th century and centered in Shanghai.
Under the masters from this culture, traditional Chinese art developed into the modern style of Chinese
painting . The Shanghai style marked the first major departure from traditional Chinese painting by
focusing less on the symbolism emphasized by the Literati style and more on the visual content of the
painting itself. The Shanghai culture originated from the Songjiang culture , challenged and broke the
elitist tradition of Chinese art, while also paying technical homage to the ancient masters and
improving on existing traditional techniques. In an era of rapid social change, works from the
Shanghai culture were innovative and diverse and often contained thoughtful yet subtle social
commentary. Longtang, unique to Shanghai, is a special form of residence that solve the conflict
between a large population and limited house in the past. The timeworn Longtang record the stories of
Shanghai, and reflect the traditions, the life style and attitude of Shanghainese. They concentrate many
different many different people from all over China who have brought with them diverse cultures.
Thousands upon thousands of Shanghai people are sentimentally attached to the Longtangs till now.

Since the beginning of the propitious world, the core aspect that keeps it thriving is the propensity for
people to discover innovations; however, progress of the past is, systematically, detrimental to the
future. Not long after the revolutionary invention of the X ray in the late 19th Century, an
unprecedented number of medical examiners noticed (unknown to the time) radiation burns all over
their body; decades later, an extraordinary surge in cancer cases had arisen. Perhaps, during the course
of these years, scientists and researchers desired to further progress the x ray (into the immense

Diagnostic radiology has evolved into being the foundation of medical institutions across the nation;
yet, with more and more pediatric patients needing a radiographic image, there are greater risks of
calamities. Shortly after the 20th century X ray scare was resolved, hospitals nation wide used the
state of the art machine to diagnose broken bones, teeth snags, infections, and even certain cancers.
Along with new medical standards and safety measures, followers of Wilhelm Röntgen (the inventor
of the X ray) discovered the properties of X radiation (Hart 48 50). Being close to gamma rays on the
electromagnetic spectrum, X radiation fully penetrates the human body, and since they are produced
from a changing nucleus, they are able to affect and change the nucleus (cells) of the absorbing matter
(Cancer 1 4; Burrill (2) 59 62). Oftentimes, the radiographer will not line up the machine correctly
with the organ, tissue, or bone in question and, therefore, will tell the patient they must retake the
image. One X ray of the midsection is equal to three full days of background radiation (Hart 50).
Radiologic technologists do not keep records of patients prior radiation exposure so it is up to them to
discuss (with a general practitioner) and know their limits (Choy 88). A

Validity According to McMillan (2014), validity refers to the extent to which a test measures what it is
supposed to measure (p. 64). Additionally, validity is concerned with the degree of correspondence
with assessing the course of study or standards being taught within the classroom. In other words,
validity relates the level of significances of the inferences, excluding the test, instrument, or
procedures used to collect information (McMillan, 2014). Darling Hammond, Herman, Pellegrino, et
al. (2013) denote that with a specific end goal to be genuinely legitimate for an extensive variety of
learners, validity quantifies well what assessments imply to gauge, precisely assesses students
capacities, and correlate testing connections between the test administrators and test takers. For
classroom assessments, Bonner (as cited in McMillan, 2014) states, one of the important
consequences to consider for validity is the impact of the assessment on student learning (p. 65).
Therefore, consistently reflecting whether the assessment is reasonable in its effect on student
motivation and learning within the context in what is being taught. Concurrently, the meaning of
validity can alter in specific situations pertaining to unique perspectives of students, parents, and
stakeholders need to be taken into consideration (McMillan, 2014, p.

The political and financial instability had greatly impacted Russian ice cream industry. The financial

ability. It also increased the production cost of Russian ice cream producers who relied on external

They would further squeeze the profit margin of producers. Therefore a lower cost would guarantee
better profit margin. Since consumption in this segment had a strong seasonality, the ability to recoup
the cost of extra producing capacity would be necessary to reduce the cost.
Family consumption segment was relative small, but it was the most promising. Compared with
impulsive consumption segment, it had less seasonality since ice cream was eaten in the warm houses
in winter, which reduced the demand to producing capacity. Shelf space in the super market was
crucial to succeed in this segment. To get this valuable resource, two measures should be adopted.
Firstly, building a close relationship with supermarket was a necessity. This cooperation would
guarantee the shelf space. A strong brand with strong customer preference would pull the demand and
increase the bargaining power with supermarket. Secondly, a special package and longer quality
guarantee period was necessary as well. If the products could be kept long, supermarket would have to
discount the product as the deadline approaching.
Café and restaurant consumption segment was the most lucrative and most demanding segment.
Alignment between the products and lifestyle was the basis in this segment. A high quality product
without a prestige brand could not survive in this segment. Therefore heavy investment on adverting

The Enlightenment Essay
Newton s publication of Principia Mathematica in 1677, as well as the Glorious Revolution, paved the
way for the beginning of the Age of Enlightenment. Promoting critical thinking about the world and
about humankind, the Enlightenment based itself primarily on scientific questioning and empirical
analysis. Scientists and philosophers of the eighteenth century questioned the traditional ideas about
the universe, society, and culture, and rejected the Aristotelian worldview, skeptical because of its lack
of verifiable evidence. Denouncing God as the creator of the universe inspired the thinkers of the time
to apply the newly founded scientific method in discovering the origin of all existence, leading to the
scientific achievements of Copernicus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Enlightenment s secularized emphasis on rationality, rather than religion, fueled artists renewed
interests in classical antiquity, as the geometric harmony of classical art and architecture seemed to
embody Enlightenment ideals (Gardner 847). At the same time, the excavations of Pompeii and
Herculaneum in the mid eighteenth century turned men s thoughts to Antiquity (Praeger 382). In 1764,
Winkelmann wrote his well known History of Ancient Art, in which he contrasted the noble simplicity
and calm grandeur of Ancient Greece with the irresponsibility, extravagance, and impertinent fire of
the Baroque period (Cumming 250). During the French Revolution, even Napoleon Bonaparte took
advantage of the stylistic potentialities inherent in the Classical Revival, and enhanced the effect to
produce the so called Empirical style (Praeger 382). Thus the Greek Revival became by infiltration the
style of the Court (Praeger 382). Architects of the Neoclassical period turned away from the
theatricality and ostentation of Baroque and Rococo design and instead embraced a more streamlined
classicism by incorporating Romanesque themes into works, such as blank walls except for a repeated
garland motif near the top, columns, and domes. One could say that the

The Effects of Nature or Nurture on Early Human...
Human development is a very complex process from conception to death. There has been a long
debate on whether human development is determined by nature or nurture. If their growths were all
guided by nature only, they would all be born with a mind of blank slate . This means that they do not
have any inborn ability to do anything when they are born. On the other hand, if their growth was
determined by nurture only, it would mean that they were fully equipped with all the skills they need
in their lives when we are born. In other words, all the physical and mental skills they have right now
would have been inherited from their parents and the environment they grow up in has no effect. This

This is because they are born with the same set of muscles and bones that they learn how to use the
nature part of motor development. However, it is important to notice that the rate of learning these
motor skills differ due to the nurture side of development. For example, an infant that practices
walking with its parent may start walking on its own earlier than another infant that received no help.
Also, an infant that receives much visual and auditory stimulation, such as playing with toys, develops
its motor skills faster than an infant that received none.
While the baby continues to learn how to move around on its own, it also learns how to talk an
extremely important skill. Speech development is also determined by both nature and nurture. All
babies that are born with no birth defects are equipped with physiological requirements for speech:
lungs, voice box, and mouth. They also need a properly working brain and nerves to control these
body parts and to mentally form sentences. These form the nature part of the speech development
because they are the things that the babies are born with. However, they could be useless if the baby
does not learn how to use them properly, and this is where the nurture part of the speech development
comes in. A baby that is constantly spoken to by others learns how to talk faster. In an opposite case, a

  • 3. Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins It may be said that the institution of power has always been a prevalent force in our society. It is a large part of what holds society together; without it civilized society as we know it would not exist. The functions of power range from keeping crime at bay to the more commonplace aspects such as allowing patrons to be served in a restaurant. The notion of power is almost invisible until further analyzed; it is something that we perceive as being simple and therefore take for granted. Yet there are so many intricacies in regard to power that still remain to be seen. In Chapter Three of Sociological Insight by Randall Collins, the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet some forms of power are certainly more effective than others. The key to realizing power most effectively lies in the acknowledgement of occasional concession and knowing when to giv(e) in on something less important (74). For instance, once again consider the example of a mother and child. Assume that the child wants to go over to a friend s house to play, but he has promised his mother that he would do his chores that afternoon. The child begs his mother to let him go and play, assuring her that he will do his chores immediately upon arriving home. The mother concedes, and the child is happy. If we are to analyze this situation in terms of gains and losses, the mother has gained points with her son and has essentially suffered no loss the chores will still be done, only a few hours later. Throughout the entire scenario, the mother s power is evident, both explicit and implicitly; the son does not forget that his mother has the ultimate say in what he does, and in letting her son go she has not only made him happy but is also asserting her power as a parent. In sum, the mother has most effectively realized her power by knowing when to sacrifice something that is of lesser importance while gaining more long term benefits. Another way that power may be asserted is by the influences of certain situations, namely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Marsden s Analysis Women now grow up in a community where their choices can be made by themselves. Women no longer have to seek their father s or husband input. Still to this day we are treated in certain circumstances as inferior to the male population (Marsden, 2012). Beside this women have come so far because they no longer have no control over their choices, their choices are in their own hand and they are able to do what they wish (Marsden, 2012). For example in class we have talked about the electoral system (Heritz, 2016b). For the longest time only British born men 21 and over were eligible to vote (Heritz, 2016b). Women fought peacefully to get their right to vote so that they could have a say. This relates to Marsden s novel because she discusses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The constitution act from 1867 to 1982 ended up being completely different acts since society evolved so much the constitution act had to evolve with it (Marsden, 2012). If one were to look at the constitution act now in the 21st century and compare the differences from the first constitution act in 1867 several people would not believe that the act had changed that much over 150 years. • 5. ‘After Midnight’ makes you feel as if you were living in... After Midnight makes you feel as if you were living in Harlem during the 30s. BY VANESSA FARIA The by gone era of 1920s and 30s, jam packed with illicit alcohol, street cars and loud noises, are often remembered as a time when music was more important than content. If that is true, then After Midnight is definitely a product of its time. After midnight is an effervescent new Lincoln center jazz venue performed at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The production will mimic the highly acclaimed musical, Cotton Club Parade by inviting special celebrities to take the stage, starring American idol winner Fantasia Barrino, Emmy nominee Dulé Hill and Tony winner Adriane Lenox. It was an era when swing was big in Harlem, after Midnight is a jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a present day twist, everything about the plot and the characters has been recycled from the old days. The performers are energetic and smiling all through the play and there are many things that bring a smile to even the weariest faces, such as balloons, trumpets, tap dancers and a bit of romantic comedy; it all creates stage magic. Another key component that adds a lot of character to this modern spin of the Harlem Renaissance is the exceptional costumes by a Cuban designer, Isabel Toledo; she found enough sparkle, feathers and beads to dress a flapper army. Although the true stars of this play are the performers from the Jazz at Lincoln Center All stars, it s clear that the stage gets caught on fire when Fantasia Barrino performed I Can t Give You Anything but Love, her smooth yet fierce voice embraced Dorothy Fields and Jimmy McHugh classic with obvious fondness. Isabel Toledo evidently likes Fantasia s curvy body, designing to her a well fitting, electric blue, lampshade skirt. She also interacts with the public when she sang the lesser known Zaz Zuh Zaz (by Cab Calloway and Harry White), inviting the public to be a part of this fantastic Jazz extravaganza. It feels like the show, did not want to be seen as an old copy, and indeed, the tricks there are self explanatory. The notion of combining old school with today s era has an obvious effect of spicing up the foundation. Yet, it does not eliminate the thought that the cast could ve ... • 7. Multiplexing Optical Oam Modes Of A Ring Fiber Multiplexing optical Oam modes in a Ring Fiber The Multiplexing OAM modes in a ring fiber are conceptually, LP Modes of higher order are composed of two fiber Engine Modes with different propagation constants. These two Modes Departs (Walk off) while propagating along the fiber, resulting in a highly Distorted Mode profile at the Detection End. In Contrast, when we combine two fiber engine modes properly the OAM Modes Can be Obtained. Compared with LP modes, OAM modes can better maintain the mode profile after propagating through a certain length of fiber due to the reason, these two fiber Engine Modes have the same propagation Constant, they will not undergo any intrinsic mode Walk off. Redundant Radially higher order modes can easily be excited in Multi Mode step Index fiber, thus raising a strict restriction to the mode coupling. Changes in Launching Condition like mode Spot size or deviation from the center, Variation of angle, can excite higher order modes in radial direction, resulting in serious cross talk. On the Contrary, a properly designed high index single ring fiber can support only the radially fundamental modes. It leads to the potential Reduction of the crosstalk induced during mode excitement. To multiplex multiple OAM modes simultaneously, the number of the Eigen modes supported by the fiber should be increased by increasing either the core radius or the refractive index difference between the core and cladding. In this Theory, one dimensional mode ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The movie consists of several flashbacks following Edward Blooms life and his adventures. It shows how Edward and his son s relationship was very strained and then how it was resolved in the end. There were also a great number of fantasy aspects in this movie that make the movie very unique. These fantasies are mainly in the stories that Edward tells his son. Edward was always out of town because of his salesman job. When Edward and his son, Will, actually talked Edward would tell his son stories about his life and his adventures. According to a new report from the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area [1], traffic fines in California have an outsize effect on low income drivers and people of color. And those consequences are not just monetary. Unpaid tickets can result in additional fines. Failure to pay those fines can lead to suspension or loss of license, and even jail time for some if they continue to drive without a license. As a result, over 4 million California drivers were without a license in 2015 [1]. Because of disparities in policing, the money issues wind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases, the inability to pay drove their traffic debt into the thousands of dollars. When Aaron Cutchon of Sacramento was laid off from his job at an auto body shop, he could no longer afford to pay for two traffic tickets he got for driving in a carpool lane. His license was suspended, and he had to stop attending classes at a Napa junior college where he was working toward an associate s degree [6]. Eunika Smith of San Diego said her license was suspended because she couldn t pay off her tickets. She just got a new job at a hospital and needs to drive for work. And for people already barely making it, not having a driver s license only intensified their burden [7]. The issue garnered national attention after the U.S. Department of Justice found similar laws in Ferguson, Missouri, burdened poor residents with crippling debt, according to a 2015 report [8]. In California, about 488,000 people had suspended driver s licenses for unpaid traffic tickets or missing related court appearances as of March 2017, the most recent number the department could provide, DMV spokesman Artemio Armenta said [9]. People s lives are unraveled by one traffic ticket. People couldn t get their medicine. People couldn t take their kids to school. People couldn t drive to their work. Plan of Investigation The investigation aims to evaluate the significance of third party candidates in the US presidential election of 1892. In 1912, Teddy Roosevelt famously split the vote of the Republican party as a third party candidate, and the investigation resolves to assess whether a third party candidate changed the outcome of the election in 1892. The investigation will focus mainly on the influence of one particular candidate from the Populist Party, James B. Weaver, as he won several electoral votes but will also include John Bidwell of the Prohibition Party who also drew in votes, although he did not gain an electoral vote. The candidate from the Socialist Labor Party will be excluded from the investigation as he did not play a significant role in the election. A focus of the investigation will be of the political views of those associated with the Populist party and Socialist party as well as why they chose the a third party ticket over the major party candidates running. Two sources, Populism and Political Realignment by L. Unlike game theory that studies and analyzes a rational behavior based on the actions of others, evolutionary game theory analysis is based on settings in which an individual is mainly not reasonable and even something cannot explicitly make decisions. An individual is given a strategy rather than choosing it. EGT will then present which forms of behaviors will persist in the population and which will be driven out. John Maynard Smith and G. R. The film portrays the true story of mobster Henry Hill (played by Ray Liotta) who grows up in the mob and works hard to advance himself through the ranks. He enjoys his life of money and luxury, but is oblivious to the horror that he causes. During the film, the mobsters spend a lot of their time enjoying themselves at a nightclub they frequent called the Copacabana . In Goodfellas, the Copacabana is a high class nightclub littered with mafia gangsters and low key lighting with a red tint and a Hawaiian theme. The scenes were shot by cinematographer, Michael Ballhaus. Inside the club, the lighting is primarily dark with a tint of red which appears to be coming from the practicals seen within the shots. This is clearly to give off a dark mafia vibe within the setting of the film. The DP wants the audience to have a sense of slight discomfort within the nightclub and to foreshadow the dark events that take place throughout the rest of the film. The style of lighting displays the mafia lifestyle as something that is filled with murder, deception, and constant fear . Bright lighting is only used during happy events during the film such as Henry and Karen s wedding and to give off positive vibes for that moment. The scenes inside the nightclub seem to have a lighting ratio of around 8:1, so it s accurate to say the setting appeared pretty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Odysseus Fighting For Justice In Homer sOdyssey In Homer s Odyssey, towards the beginning, Homer uses the specific epithet raider of cities to illuminate the negative side of Odysseus when he plundered without any self control. Later, while Odysseus is fighting for justice by killing the suitors, Homer narrates, And Odysseus raider of cities struck Eurydamas down (418). When Odysseus is fulfilling his revenge against the suitors, he is still described as a raider of cities by Homer. Now, since Odysseus is fighting in the name of justice against the sinful suitors, is Homer still using the epithet in a negative way? Or is Homer using the epithet to express a more positive aspect of Odysseus? Moreover, does Homer emphasize that the raider of cities has changed with respect to his self possession? Homer illuminates the transformation in the raider of cities due to his mastery of self possession. The change in Odysseus mercifulness towards innocent women accentuates his grasp on self possession. Before, Odysseus did not show mercy towards anyone, especially women. When his army stormed a town, he himself states, Plunder we took, and we enslaved the women, to make...equal shares to all (146). When Odysseus enslaves the women, Homer seems to particularly emphasize the negative quality of mercilessness in him as a raider of cities. Odysseus does not feel any compassion when he enslaves innocent women handing them off to men as if they are objects. Moreover, Odysseus plunders and enslaves without any self control, which highlights that he is glorifying and enjoying himself. Destroying a city, killing many people, and raping innocent women evidently shows the immense amount of self possession that Odysseus completely lacks. Later on, Odysseus seems to change his stance on mercy. After he kills every suitor, Odysseus tells Eurykleia, To glory over slain men is no piety...Your part is now to tell me of the women...who dishonored me, and the innocent (422). Perhaps, during the course of these years, scientists and researchers desired to further progress the x ray (into the immense subsidiaries that are here today), and disregarded any flaws in the apparatus. This systematic inclination continues into the present time as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diagnostic radiology has evolved into being the foundation of medical institutions across the nation; yet, with more and more pediatric patients needing a radiographic image, there are greater risks of calamities. Shortly after the 20th century X ray scare was resolved, hospitals nation wide used the state of the art machine to diagnose broken bones, teeth snags, infections, and even certain cancers. Along with new medical standards and safety measures, followers of Wilhelm Röntgen (the inventor of the X ray) discovered the properties of X radiation (Hart 48 50). Being close to gamma rays on the electromagnetic spectrum, X radiation fully penetrates the human body, and since they are produced from a changing nucleus, they are able to affect and change the nucleus (cells) of the absorbing matter (Cancer 1 4; Burrill (2) 59 62). Oftentimes, the radiographer will not line up the machine correctly with the organ, tissue, or bone in question and, therefore, will tell the patient they must retake the image. One X ray of the midsection is equal to three full days of background radiation (Hart 50). Radiologic technologists do not keep records of patients prior radiation exposure so it is up to them to discuss (with a general practitioner) and know their limits (Choy 88). A ... Additionally, validity is concerned with the degree of correspondence with assessing the course of study or standards being taught within the classroom. In other words, validity relates the level of significances of the inferences, excluding the test, instrument, or procedures used to collect information (McMillan, 2014). Darling Hammond, Herman, Pellegrino, et al. (2013) denote that with a specific end goal to be genuinely legitimate for an extensive variety of learners, validity quantifies well what assessments imply to gauge, precisely assesses students capacities, and correlate testing connections between the test administrators and test takers. For classroom assessments, Bonner (as cited in McMillan, 2014) states, one of the important consequences to consider for validity is the impact of the assessment on student learning (p. 65). Therefore, consistently reflecting whether the assessment is reasonable in its effect on student motivation and learning within the context in what is being taught. Concurrently, the meaning of validity can alter in specific situations pertaining to unique perspectives of students, parents, and stakeholders need to be taken into consideration (McMillan, 2014, p. ... • 32. General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade A. GATT Article III has been nullified and impaired. The WTO resolution panel will use the Japan Taxes on Alcoholic Beverages case s like products test and the tariff classification test to establish the presence of nullification and impairment. The MF and Dabi are Members of the WTO and they both must abide by the WTO Agreement. This Agreement gives WTO Members benefits in return for their commitment to the Agreement. The MF is not complying with GATT Article III, Section 1 in that the MF is protecting their domestic beef products by regulating the importation of Dabi s beef products without enough scientific evidence to support the negative effects of Xamil. Imported beef products must be treated the same as domestic beef products. Dabi s and the MF s beef products are like products due to identical end users and the beef s properties. Until more compelling scientific studies are conducted to prove that Dabi s and the MF s beef products are not like products, the MF s regulation of Dabi s beef products is inconsistent with Article III. In order to conduct the tariff classification test, the WTO s Harmonized Tariff Schedule system must be used. B. GATT Article XX (b) may be used by the MF to argue against Dabi s claims. The WTO resolution panel will use the Thailand Restrictions on Importation of Cigarettes case to test whether the ban on Dabi beef products is necessary to protect human health. • 34. Marketing and Ice Cream Q1. How structurally attractive is the Russian ice cream market? Discuss how its industry structure can be made more attractive? (663 words) The political and financial instability had greatly impacted Russian ice cream industry. The financial crisis in 1998 and the devaluation of the ruble had greatly reduced Russian market s consumption ability. It also increased the production cost of Russian ice cream producers who relied on external market for raw materials. The shrinkage of frozen import market heavily impacted by the financial crisis forced the wholesales entered the ice cream market, which intensified the competition in the market. They would further squeeze the profit margin of producers. Therefore a lower cost would guarantee better profit margin. Since consumption in this segment had a strong seasonality, the ability to recoup the cost of extra producing capacity would be necessary to reduce the cost. Family consumption segment was relative small, but it was the most promising. Compared with impulsive consumption segment, it had less seasonality since ice cream was eaten in the warm houses in winter, which reduced the demand to producing capacity. Shelf space in the super market was crucial to succeed in this segment. To get this valuable resource, two measures should be adopted. Firstly, building a close relationship with supermarket was a necessity. This cooperation would guarantee the shelf space. A strong brand with strong customer preference would pull the demand and increase the bargaining power with supermarket. Secondly, a special package and longer quality guarantee period was necessary as well. If the products could be kept long, supermarket would have to discount the product as the deadline approaching. Café and restaurant consumption segment was the most lucrative and most demanding segment. Alignment between the products and lifestyle was the basis in this segment. • 35. The Enlightenment Essay Newton s publication of Principia Mathematica in 1677, as well as the Glorious Revolution, paved the way for the beginning of the Age of Enlightenment. Promoting critical thinking about the world and about humankind, the Enlightenment based itself primarily on scientific questioning and empirical analysis. Scientists and philosophers of the eighteenth century questioned the traditional ideas about the universe, society, and culture, and rejected the Aristotelian worldview, skeptical because of its lack of verifiable evidence. Denouncing God as the creator of the universe inspired the thinkers of the time to apply the newly founded scientific method in discovering the origin of all existence, leading to the scientific achievements of Copernicus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Enlightenment s secularized emphasis on rationality, rather than religion, fueled artists renewed interests in classical antiquity, as the geometric harmony of classical art and architecture seemed to embody Enlightenment ideals (Gardner 847). At the same time, the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum in the mid eighteenth century turned men s thoughts to Antiquity (Praeger 382). In 1764, Winkelmann wrote his well known History of Ancient Art, in which he contrasted the noble simplicity and calm grandeur of Ancient Greece with the irresponsibility, extravagance, and impertinent fire of the Baroque period (Cumming 250). During the French Revolution, even Napoleon Bonaparte took advantage of the stylistic potentialities inherent in the Classical Revival, and enhanced the effect to produce the so called Empirical style (Praeger 382). Thus the Greek Revival became by infiltration the style of the Court (Praeger 382). Architects of the Neoclassical period turned away from the theatricality and ostentation of Baroque and Rococo design and instead embraced a more streamlined classicism by incorporating Romanesque themes into works, such as blank walls except for a repeated garland motif near the top, columns, and domes. • 36. The Effects of Nature or Nurture on Early Human... Human development is a very complex process from conception to death. There has been a long debate on whether human development is determined by nature or nurture. If their growths were all guided by nature only, they would all be born with a mind of blank slate . This means that they do not have any inborn ability to do anything when they are born. On the other hand, if their growth was determined by nurture only, it would mean that they were fully equipped with all the skills they need in their lives when we are born. In other words, all the physical and mental skills they have right now would have been inherited from their parents and the environment they grow up in has no effect. This essay will focus on the effects of both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because they are born with the same set of muscles and bones that they learn how to use the nature part of motor development. However, it is important to notice that the rate of learning these motor skills differ due to the nurture side of development. For example, an infant that practices walking with its parent may start walking on its own earlier than another infant that received no help. Also, an infant that receives much visual and auditory stimulation, such as playing with toys, develops its motor skills faster than an infant that received none. While the baby continues to learn how to move around on its own, it also learns how to talk an extremely important skill. Speech development is also determined by both nature and nurture. All babies that are born with no birth defects are equipped with physiological requirements for speech: lungs, voice box, and mouth. They also need a properly working brain and nerves to control these body parts and to mentally form sentences. These form the nature part of the speech development because they are the things that the babies are born with. However, they could be useless if the baby does not learn how to use them properly, and this is where the nurture part of the speech development comes in. A baby that is constantly spoken to by others learns how to talk faster. In an opposite case, a baby ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
