Depersonalization In Frrantz Fanon s Black Skin, White Man
Frantz Fanon was one of the leading theorists of postcolonialism. His career as a psychiatrist
gave him a unique perspective and allowed him to focus on the identity formation of the
colonized subject and racial injustice. Fanon s insight and view of colonization helped to
further explain course material. In Fanon s famous work Black Skin, White Mask, it became
obvious how prevalent and severe racism was at that time (Julien). According to Fanon, it led to
depersonalization which was so strong that colored people ultimately had to wear a white mask
in order to survive. I believe that it s very sad that colored people weren t allowed to fully
embrace who they were are and weren t able to live peacefully with the whites. Nobody should
have to pretend to be someone whom they aren t. In Frantz Fanon s book titled The Wretched of the
Earth, Frantz Fanon asserts that decolonization will always entail violent armed struggles between
the colonized and the colonists. He makes several main points to substantiate such a bold and
sweeping claim. Fanon states, At whatever level we study decolonization, it is quite simply the
substitution of one species of mankind by another. The substitution is absolute, total, and seamless
(Fanon 1). When colonization first begins in a certain region, fights soon break out between the
natives and the colonists in hopes to preserve their land and freedom. When the natives lose, they
then have to follow the colonist s rules and regulations

The Impact Of Budget Cuts On Educational Institutions And...
A society s culture is built through time and consists of many variables that can depend on many
different factors. For a person to understand the relativism of other cultures they must open their
mind and try to see from another perspective. Through this assignment I will put my shift my
mind to an outsider s etic view to enable me to examine my own culture. Furthermore, I will
jump on the side of an insider to gain the emic perspective of a culture as if I have lived in it. In
this paper I will specifically examine my own cultures educational crisis from an outsider s
perspective to understand where the failures are in our education. I will then dive into an insider s
perspective to the act and reasons behind suicide terrorism, and... Show more content on

Different American educational policies and practices can be determined by multiple factors such
as demographic considerations, budget concerns, economic impact and cultural values Shapiro
(2013). American higher education is described by Engell and Dangerfield (2005) as The fastest
expanding and often strongest motivation in American higher education is now money (as quoted
in Bean, 2007, page 240). For instance, budget cuts have been administered nearly all over the
country but how does it affect the institutions within that state. When states are unable to provide
aid to school districts due to budget cuts in our economy it in turn takes away needed courses that
educate students that can be an economic contributor later in life, Carter (2011). The United States
Census Bureau (2013) conducted a statistical analysis which analyzed the debt for each states
school system finances, and the analysis showed the annual debt for the state of Alabama school
system was $5 million dollars by the end of the fiscal school year. This will continue to increase
with budget cuts increasing every year for education across the United States and will be
detrimental to the educational abilities of the school districts to perform at a high level. According
to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, cuts to educational funding will

Elsie de Wolfe, Eleanor McMillen Brown, and Dorothy...
In the Early 20th Century a movement began; the movement that made women strive to be
professional interior decorators. It was a new idea of decorating but to make it a profession, that
s what made the difference. During this time a few women made history, Elsie de Wolfe, Eleanor
McMillen Brown, and Dorothy Draper. Their styles and way of doing things put them down in the
books as some of the greatest. Between the decorators their styles vary, some have similarities
while some are completely different. For instance, Elsie de Wolfewho is considered to be the first
lady of interior decoration believed in simplicity, suitability, and proportion. She hated the
Victorian style but she loved the complete opposite, French style. Everything had to be white and
gold with elegant warm colors that made the spaces a soft eighteenth century French
sophistication. Wolfe became known as the Chintz Lady immediately after the Colony opened
in 1907, when she introduced a casual feminine style with an abundance of glazed chintz. ( )
Elsie de Wolfe did many private houses that ranged from the East to West Coast, opera boxes
and also a dormitory at Barnard College. Eleanor McMillen Brown had a similar style to that of
Wolfe s but she had a twist on it. She added Directoire and English Regency intermixing the
periods and styles together allowed for her to have a different perspective. Eleanor cared for the
interior background of the room, the architecture. She was always considering good

The Gardner-Webb University Anti-Human Trafficking Club
Recalling the first time hearing about human trafficking, I remember sitting with my mother during
the church service. As the pastor explained the brutality of human trafficking, an image began to
form in my head of a young prepubescent girl forced into compromising positions. Then, the pastor
stated something that broke my heart, the majority of these girls were not captured, but sold. They
were sold by their fathers, or other members of their families.
This situation is depressingly similar to the biblical account of Joseph being sold for a few pieces
of silver by his own brothers, and then dragged from Canaan to Egypt, over 200 miles. We prefer
to think the concept of selling people into slavery as if they were simple animals as an ancient
practice the human race has finally surpassed. Unfortunately we are very wrong. This barbaric,
possibly fatal, transaction continues to happen to 20.9 million people, over half women (10
million), and a quarter children (5 million) (source: Polaris Project). ... Show more content on

Saving the Ballona Wetlands Essay
Before development exploded in California, the state contained about 5 million acres of wetland
habitat. Unfortunately, over the years California has been willing to part with 91 percent of its
wetlands, Southern California having lost 95 percent. Los Angeles County has only one wetland
remaining. This being the Ballona Wetlandslocated between Marina del Rey and the Westchester

Maguire partners (now Playa Capital) to develop two thirds of the land with the DreamWorks
Playa Vista project. One third is to be saved and will undergo a restoration project headed by
Playa Capital. Playa Capital has agreed to provide for 297 acres of wetland and surrounding area,
in exchange for the right to develop the rest of the land. They have promised to manage and
maintain these 297 acres of land to function as a natural wetland. They have donated $12.5 million
for a restoration fund they say will not be used as mitigation by Playa Capital.
With all the restoration and funding being put into Ballona, there are still many environmental
groups that are adamantly opposed to the settlement and prefer to save all of Ballona s acreage.
These groups consist of the Ballona Ecosystem Education Project, the Sierra Club Ballona Task
Force, Ballona Valley Preservation League, Alliance for Survival, Ballona Wetlands Land Trust, LA
Green Party, LA Earth First, CALPIRG, Sea Shepherd Society, and the Wetlands Action Network.
They acknowledge that Playa Vista is not all wetland, but open space that needs to be saved from

Food Regulation In High School
WHAT will it take to get Americans to change our eating habits? (Bittman) Nothing can, if it has
not worked yet, nothing will work. Food regulation is a huge topic that has been going around for
a couple of years in schools and restaurants. The way food regulation works is that schools are
now serving more fruits and vegetables than carbs or meat. There are several people that agree with
foodregulation in schools and restaurants, but others have different opinions. I believe that food
regulation is wrong, I think so because a high schooler needs a certain amount of calories to stay
healthy, and some kids do not have parents that will provide food for them when they get home.
Another big reason I refute with it also is because there are hundreds... Show more content on

kids buy now. They did not only take away our freedom of what we can eat, but they took away
our freedom on what and what not we can buy. Washington Puyallup School District spent

$30,000 in technology that can keep up with a student s diet. Why not spend that on technology
that can be used to further knowledge the children. The money could be used in a physical

and buying. If the school district needs my signature in order to obtain my daughter s photograph

sign an authorization to use my child s identity. (Olson) That quote was said by an enraged parent
that was tired of the scanning system. The school ended up totally getting rid of the palm scanning
system. That is good, now the

Allegory In A Rose For Emily
Some people love change, but others absolutely dislike it. When something big changes in one s
life, will it change who they are, or will they fight back? This short story shows how when a
person grows up relying only on one person when they leave, it will change everything about that
person. In the southern gothic story A rose for Emily by William Faulkneruses characterization,
allegory, and allusion display the idea that the toll that death can take on one s life could be drastic.
Characterization showed the true personality of Miss Emily and how her father s death shaped her.
The many issues in this short story all started at how Miss Emily was raised. She was raised to only
rely on her father, who was very protective over her. When... Show more content on

We can see that this story makes a lot of indirect references in the text. I want some poison, the
best that you have. I didn t care what kind. (pg. 3) Allusion is shown because it made it seem like
she was going to commit suicide. This is evidence that she most likely killed Homer Barron
because he was poorer while her dad wasn t, so she knew that he would never approve, which
could ve cause her to kill him. This created an allusion in her mind that it was acceptable for her to
poison someone because of what her dead father would think.
Characterization, allegory, and allusion all play a large role as to why Miss Emily has
attachment issues and is unable to move on from the past and look forward to the future. Though
there was no visible or literal rose, it did symbolize Miss Emily and how she started out mentally
healthy and then as all the major events took place, it shows how roses fade, along with her mental
health. This story is the perfect example to not be too not let the struggles in life overcome

Essay on Thomas Herzog’s Private House in Regensburg
The Private House in Regensburg was built in 1979, which is Thomas Herzog s own home; one
can declare that he is the client and designer himself thus fulfilling his own needs or desires for
the site. The house demonstrates particular principles of energy efficiency, making it an early eco
home. This can be shown by the use of local materials, or taking advantage of the site for
characteristics like protection and aesthetics. Thomas Herzog was born in during World War 2
(1941), in Munich, Germany. In 1965 he completed his diploma for architecture at the Technische
Universität München (University of München) and in 1973 he became Germany s youngest
professor of architecture at the age of thirty two. He is now known famously for his work... Show

The appearance loses the traditional house design and implements that it is an extruded form of
a triangle, linking to the hypotenuse of a triangle, reaching right down to the ground. It was
designed to appear as if the house is unwarranted (groundless) or the vice versa of it being forced
up through the ground. Energy principles were a relatively new idea in the 1970s where Herzog
implemented the use of the triangular shape of the house that is designed to collect free solar
energy, which is later used to heat the house. Herzog used environmental responsive architecture to
integrate energy saving features into the home. Also many architects would argue that the
principles of creating a house like this uses the principles of a Lean 2 shed , where it creates a
D.I.Y aesthetics. Linking to the idea of conservatories being around since Victorian times but was
always an addition to the conventional house . Herzog merged the two together by creating a two
storey house with a conservatory attached, except that both elements share the same roofline.
Herzog makes regularity and flexibility another architectural theme that is seen just as valuable to
energy saving throughout the house. The plan of the house is designed to distribute or allocate
space proportionally, which is layered via an abstract grid. Which can be combined in different
ways either horizontally or vertically. The types of materials used have also specific aesthetic

These boots move the forces caused by a fall to the knee rather than the ankle or lower leg. The
ACL injury usually occurs when the knee is forcefully twisted, or hyper extended. Many patients
recall hearing a loud pop when the ligament tears, and feel the knee give way. This injury has
received a great deal of attention from orthopedic surgeons over the past 15 years and very
successful operations to reconstruct the torn anterior cruciate ligament have been performed. The
tearing oh the posterior cruciate ligament is another sports related knee injury, though less
common than the ACL. This injury can occur when the knee is forcefully twisted or hyper
extended, but other ligaments are usually injured or torn, before the posterior cruciate ligament
(PCL) is torn in these injuries. The most common way for the PCL alone to be injured is from a
direct blow to the front of the knee while the knee is bent. If the tibia moves too far back the
PCL can rupture. This is a common cause of injury to the PCL during an automobile accident. As
the automobile strikes another and stops suddenly, the front passenger or driver slides forward.
The bent knee hits the dashboard just below the kneecap. This forces the tibia backward on the
femur tearing the PCL. The same force can occur during a fall on the bent knee, where the force of
the fall on the tibia pushes it back

Metamodern Sounds In Country Music
A Narrative on Americana Music Research
I chose to do the topic of Americana music for my research paper for a number of reasons. For
the last several years, I ve found myself listening to more and more of this folksy, country like, old
sounding music without really knowing what it was. Then, a year or so ago, one of my favorite
artists of this style a guy named Sturgill Simpson won a grammy. The title of his album is
Metamodern Sounds in Country Music , which perhaps should have been a slight giveaway to the
Grammy people as far as what category to nominate his album in. It was not nominated for best

Another source that will help with a certain aspect of understanding Americana music is the
journal article Nashville and Americana Music by Garrett Harper and Chris Cotton. I think one of
the most important aspects of Americana music is that it truly is American music, and I don t want
my research to be pigeon holed into one particular style from one location. There is no denying,
however, Nashville s influence on just about all popular music styles, especially those that are

Jackson s thought experiment about Mary challenges the thesis that the actual world is entire
physical. In a scenario given by Jackson is the story of the black and white room. There, a
scientist named Mary lives her entire life in black and white. Mary has never seen everything
except black and white, and knows everything she needs to know about the calibration of the
brain when one sees the color red or blue. She can scan the brain and see the physical basis of
colors, but she has never seen anything but black and white, and there is nothing she does not know
about color. But supposed that she walks out of the room. Many philosophers argue that

Women In Aldous Huxley s A Brave New World
Aldous Huxley foresaw a great number of feats in his novel, but it seems that he saw no kind of
liberation for women at any point in the near or distant future. In fact, despite the dystopic nature of
Huxley s novel, he instead created a futuristic world that is hauntingly similar to our own. The only
difference being that Hover cars actually do exist. Upon first glance, the story seems liberating,
uplifting, and in every sense of the word, futuristic. But as you delve further into the novel you
become blinded by the blatant misogyny that holds this dull, unadventurous story together. Brave

If you were to walk into any government, court house, or police firm, you would find an
overwhelming amount of men filling up positions more times than not. You might say that oh,
but men are more fitted to those jobs! Women don t know how to be a police officer, judge,
prime minister, but that s only because we have never been given the chance. And if, like Julia
Gillard perhaps, we do happen to break through the misogynistic barriers of society, we would be
relentlessly ridiculed, even if we were more successful than any man before us. But Huxley s
lack of femme fatale doesn t stop him from portaying the few female characters in a non
favourable way. The only memorable female characters in the book, Lenina and Linda, were
both semi perfectly conditioned Betas, which gives the impression that women are single sided
and lack distinguishing characteristics. What s more is that Huxley doesn t mention a single
female Alpha plus nor World Leader; apparently the top of the food chain is not where women
belong. The Alpha plus males of Huxley s novel seem to be the only ones rebelling against the
New World order. They are the only group capable of being unhappy, unorthodox, and rebellious.
And they are definitely the only ones praised for those very things. Despite the caste system and

Church History Chapter 4
For the same Church
Through reading the chapter 4 of the book Church History , written by Kevin Hughes, I find the
connection between the Luther s Conflict with Catholic opponents and the definition of the
Church. In other words, although the traditional Catholic theologians and Luther have different
views about the if a human could follow Gospel perfectly, they were still a unity that gathered by
God to form the Church, and both of them were doing their best to teach the Holy Spirit of God to
other citizens. Arguing the sense of human sinfulness, Christians could better ways to bring Jesus
Holy and love to others. Moreover, the deeper understanding of sins could save from people from
the suffering of further sins. For example, between 1517 and 1520, Luther wrote thirty works
about his theology ideas and sold more than 300,000 copies total. It gives many people a
completely new view about human sins.

In other words, when people deeply understand the righteousness of God, they would find that it is
impossible for human beings to keep themselves completely away from the sins, even the pope
and saints would make mistakes. However, the Church did help people to make connection with
the Holy Spirit and prevent the further sins. For example, the Christ had bequeathed the spirit to
the Church, and the Spirit preserved the Church from error. The Church couldn t directly teach the
Holy Spirit to believers, but it could provide them a connection with God and the Holy Spirit. As a
result, under God s great love, those sins are still forgivable. It is the point of view that I never

Negative Impacts
Education the access of these devices to school going children`s has caused more harm than good.
For example, they spend much of their time on playing video games and other activities which are
not mentally and socially good for them. So, they are just wasting their time instead of focus on the

a robot.

How Employees Define Understands, And Link Engagement At...
Purpose Researchers have found only 30% of employees in the United States are actively
engaged in the workplace (Gallup 2013). In 2010, data provided by the US Bureau of Labor
Statistics (as cited in Moreland, 2013) show more individuals are voluntarily quitting their jobs.
With over 70% of US workers disengaged, this topic has arguably prompted an interest that
continues to be earnestly pursued by many. As a result, the Gallup Q12 expands the need for
additional research based on their finding of employee engagement. The purpose of this descriptive
qualitative researchis to explore how employees define understands, and link engagement to
productivity within the workplace. Without a well defined rigor understanding of engagement,
employees remain unfocused, disengaged, and unproductive during working hours. Moreland
(2013) found that too many individuals pursue opportunities that are not aligned with their
experience, behavioral competencies, and education background. This impact of disengaged
productivity undermine the success of other co workers, and decrease employee morale across
organizations. By exploring these factors this research will capture data that represent the
contributing influences to improve the levels of engagement to increase productivity.
Research Questions
The central research questions in this study will provide the contributing factors of engagement.
The following are the research questions addressed in the study and interview questions allow

The Gynamic Character In Raymond Carver s Cathedral
William H. Macy is well known for his role as Frank Gallagher in the hit TV show Shameless.
From the beginning, we learn that Frank, who is a father of six, is extremely narrow minded and
selfish. He has a hard time understanding his children s thoughts and feelings, which is unusual for
the average father. Like Frank, the narrator in Raymond Carvers short story Cathedral demonstrates
his inability to understand others thoughts and emotions because of his own narrow minded, selfish
thoughts and actions. This is portrayed throughout the beginning of the story. First, we are shown
his prejudicial thoughts towards the blind man simply because he is blind. He then expresses his
selfishness as well as a hint of jealousy when he comments on the relationship between the blind
man and his wife, while displaying an overall negative attitude about the man s visit. Despite his
negative characterization, much like many other intriguing dynamic characters, the narrator comes
realize his own blindness towards the end of the story. This encourages him to be more self aware,
as well as sympathetic to others and the world around him.
Raymond Carver chose to make the narrator a dynamic character to successfully illustrate how
many people, at some point in their life, will realize a certain, unsettling conflict they have within
themselves and learn from it. The narrator being a dynamic character, symbolizes those members in
today s society. In the story, the narrator realizes his internal conflict when despite the image of a
cathedral being on the TV right in front of him, he cannot verbally explain what it is. This creates
an unsettling feeling within the narrator. This then helps him to later realize his own shallow nature
and, in a sense, how he himself is blind . Many people experience this unsettledness within
themselves at some point throughout their life. Once they see these issues within themselves, and
overcome their conflict, they grow as a person, just as the narrator demonstrates throughout the
story.
From the start, author Raymond Carver, expresses the narrator s selfishness by his inability to
understand others thoughts and feelings. This is a major factor indicating his overall blindness. In
the beginning of

Process Measurement and Improvement
Introduction
The case is based on an insurance service company which traced back to 1994. The company was
facing problems in controlling and improving service quality and operation performance. This essay

The average of fraction defective is merely a number which cannot tell us what to do with it even
when we get it. Thus SPC is more accurate and systematic to analyze the process of customer
service operation.
2. Primary challenges
There are basically two challenges that implementing the SPC to a service company:
1) Difficulties of deciding and selecting what to measure and
2) Too much uncertainty because of the human behavior
3. Sample: how SPC works
Here is an example of employing SPC (P Chart) for DAV s PMV project.
The first 12 weeks of the data displayed in Appendix I represent the diagnostic period for the Policy
Extension Group.
From the calculation (See Appendix I), we get the 3 sigma control limits for the process, i.e.
UCL=0.091, LCL=0.014. These control limits indicate that if the error proportion is within the
range of [0.014, 0.091], the process is under control; if not, the process is out of control.
Here is the P Chart for the data from Week 13 to Week 30.

It is then clear that the process is out of control in Week 23 and Week 24.
In addition to process control, SPC can also help lower rank employees to better understand the
different standards of the services and draw their attention to self control of fraction

The Battle Over Affirmitive Action in the College World
For many the subject of affirmative action is worth protesting over, however, there are a few who
would love to see the existence of affirmitive action abolished. Affirmative action has always been
a long debated topic with two different communites arguing very different view points. Although
affirmitive action can cause friction among many different opionated people, on the other hand, the
results of the practice has ensured the college educations for many of minorities in America.
Should this practice be allowed during the college admissions process is the question that remains
to be debated. The right to attend college is considered to be a privilege for students who are able

Affirmative action oppossers say using race to determine a students admission status is a double
standard and the one issue many minorities fight to not be judged by. More student s who are not of
the African American and Hispanic races are now suing schools claiming they to have been
discriminated against based on their ethnicity (Jost).
Financially being able to afford life after college is a priority that many students carefully plan
for. The only issue both sides do agree on is that the majors most student s are currently studying
will not have a high demand for job placement once they graduate with their degrees. The two
communities say the majors that most student s study will not provide them with the economic
resources they may need to be sufficient during post college. In 2007 unemployment rates for
student s who had a bachelor s degree was 4.9 percent and 8.5 percent for people with associates
degrees and high school diplomas (Billitteri). Providing proof that the job market and the majors
that students were choosing did not coincide with one another, resulting in the two communities
claiming money may have been wasted in order to educate the unemployed, also assuming the
money invested did not go to proper use.
The evidence given by both sides still leaves me in a neutral state of mind. Generally speaking, the
matter is that of importance that it should be viwed on a serious scale. If more colleges are excepting

A natural disaster has the capability to cause large scale damage and destruction to an area.
Seismic events have been known to alter landscapes and affect the livelihoods, health and
development of communities. No two earthquake events are the same and the level of threat posed
by an earthquake can vary due to both the human and physical factors of an area. The 2010

previously vulnerable area to suffer tremendous loss and debilitating socio economic impacts, to an
already poverty stricken nation.

The key lessons that have been learnt from the event is that those in charge of ensuring the safety
of Haiti s citizens need to recognize the risk of their location and acknowledge the advice of
seismologists for any future seismic events. The implementation of early warning systems and the
use of SMS messaging as seen in Japan would greatly reduce the hazard of an earthquake. In
addition, environmental management is crucial for the long term survival of Haiti, strategies to
reduce deforestation and claiming back land unsuitable for housing would lead to better soil quality
and less risk of landslides and liquefaction to buildings should another event occur. However, the
main lesson to be drawn from the disaster is the need for proper construction techniques and

Nietzsche s Essay On The Genealogy Of Morals
The Genealogy of Morals
Friedrich Nietzsche, born in 1844, was a German philosopher, cultural critic, poet, and Latin and
Greek scholar who has greatly influenced Western philosophy and modern intellectual history. He
was well known for his writings because of their attacks on society. Nietzsche s writings have
influenced many authors and philosophers.
The Genealogy of Morals consists of a preface and three essays interrelated. These essays are used
to get Nietzsche s point across that morality in not all genetic, but that society plays a big part in
one s moral code. In his writings, he uses examples that fit each attack on society.
In the Preface, Nietzsche states that the Russian novelist Dostoyevsky is the only person who has

Nietzsche defines guilt and punishment as a form of a debt owed and a way of securing debt. The
rise of slave morality gave these moral concepts present meaning. However, bad conscience is our
tendency to see ourselves as sinners which originates from the development of society to inhibit our
animal instincts for aggression and cruelty and to turn them inward upon ourselves. If humans did
not have a conscience, they would do whatever they want to without thinking.
The concept of guilt is related to the concept of debt. If an autonomous individual inflicts pain on
another individual as result of anger, they will feel that they would owe the individual for the pain
they caused. (debt) The individual might choose form of punishment that the autonomous
individual must endure. Nietzsche states that punishment is just a way to secure payment.
In his third essay, What do ascetic ideals mean? Nietzsche Brings to light the meaning of ascetic
ideals. He explains the meaning through three different perspectives, the artist, philosopher, and the
priest. From the artist s perspective, the ideal means nothing or too many. Nietzsche selects
Richard Wagner a German composer as example. Artist s always require some ideology to
motivate themselves. Therefore, we should look to philosophers if we are to get closer to finding
out the meaning of ascetic

Types Of Investments And Bonds
Introduction
This paper will examine two basic types of investments; stock and bonds, from an investor s
perspective highlighting the advantages and disadvantages between common stock (equity) and
corporate bonds (debt).
Webster Dictionary defines investment as the outlay of money usually for income or profit usually
in a tangible asset such as property . With both stocks and bonds, the only thing tangible is a
simple piece of paper, a certificate. On the surface, these certificates may seem the same, however
there is a very important fundamental difference. Owning a stock certificate is evidence of being a
shareholder; hence money is exchanged for a portion of ownership in a company. A bond
certificate, on the other hand, represents a contract and evidence of giving a loan to a company.
Stocks are considered equity investments and bonds debt investments. This key difference brings
its own set of pros and cons to each of these types of investment and affects their level of risk and
return.
The Advantages of Stocks
Corporations issue both stocks and bonds to raise capital to purchase land, equipment, building,
or even pay off debt. However, there are several advantages to investors to purchase a stock in a
corporation over bonds. First, when you purchase a share of stock you essentially become a part
owner in the company. With this ownership comes special privileges, such as the right to vote on
who sits on the board of directors and on matters that could

Robert Browning s The Ring And The Book
Although the early part of Robert Browning s creative life was spent in comparative obscurity,
he has come to be regarded as one of the most important poets of the Victorian period. His
dramatic monologues and the psycho historical epic The Ring and the Book (1868 1869), a novel
in verse, have established him as a major figure in the history of English poetry. His claim to
attention as a children s writer is more modest, resting as it does almost entirely on one poem,
The Pied Piper of Hamelin, included almost as an afterthought in Bells and Pomegranites. No.
III. Dramatic Lyrics (1842) and evidently never highly regarded by its creator. Nevertheless, The
Pied Piper moved quickly into the canon of children s literature, where it has remained ever

s original. Browning was born on 7 May 1812 in Camberwell, a middle class suburb of London; he
was the only son of Robert Browning, a clerk in the Bank of England, and a devoutly religious
German Scotch mother, Sarah Anna Wiedemann Browning. He had a sister, Sarianna, who like her

The Hound Of The Baskervilles By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Essay
Most often, people have an image in their mind when they think of detectives, whether the image
is a man in a trench coat holding a magnifying glass, a beloved childhood character like Nancy
Drew or the Hardy Boys, or the classic Victorian detective. While all of these may hold true, one
specific person comes to mind at the mention of a detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Along with
images of detectives come preconceived ideas of what a detective or mystery novel should be or
what it should contain. Within the genre, numerous authors have stood out among the others and
set their own standard for these works of literature. In The Hound of the Baskervillesby Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle, Doyle employs juxtaposed settings, descriptive imagery, and the symbolism that each
convey to establish an immense attention to detail which maximizes the effectiveness of his
writing in the genre of detection in this classic Sherlock Holmes story.
Throughout the novel, Doyle sets up an immense contrast between the settings of the story which
acts as a guide to clearly distinguish between the locations and give insight into their symbolism.
In The Hound of the Baskervilles there are two distinct locations in which the story takes place,
London and Dartmoor. London is where the story begins, where Sherlock and Watson are first
introduced to the case, and where things first start to seem peculiar. Though these first events that
set up the mystery of the novel take place in London, London is a symbol of

Why Do 15 Year Olds Get The Right To Vote
Some people suggest that affording children over fifteen the right to vote would lead to a better
society. After all, the more voices are heard in a democracy, the more legitimacy elected leaders
have. Be that as it may, I believe that society would actually be worse off if fifteen year olds were
allowed to vote. Teenagers are too immature to vote, and often simply copy the preferences of their

emotional maturity needed to make intelligent decisions when voting. They often feel passionately
about a topic one day only to have their interest fizzle out the next; clearly , that causes problems
when the decisions made affect people throughout society.

Ghana Research Paper
Ghana is a country located in the sub region of Western Africa. This country has been a part of the
deep history in Western African culture, and has held onto its roots even through times of
persecution and hardship. Much of Ghana s history has been handed down through oral and
written sources, making it an even greater feat that their traditions are still around today (Stahl,
Making History in Banda ). The religious groups that reside in Ghana today are fairly diverse, but
the traditional religions that have resided in Ghana for thousands of years are still alive and well.
The religions certainly have changed over time, especially since the colonization of Ghana, but
rituals are still performed by the traditional religions that subside... Show more content on

Nana is originally from Ghana and has traveled the world performing rituals for individuals, and
is known for his ability to heal anything that an individual may need help with. There is currently
a large movement in Ghana for Christianity to prevail, and Nana has been a large opponent trying
to keep his traditional beliefs alive in a rapidly changing world. Nana began his life as a member
of the Seventh day Adventist Church in his hometown, and at the age of 19 underwent a rapid
change that is believed to have given Nana his supernatural powers (Lipinski, A Visit from the
Devil ). Upon this realization of his powers, Nana changed his last name and was soon bringing in
an income from his work as a fetish priest. Nana says that although there is such a high percentage
of Christians in Ghana today, many still consult with traditional priests on issues within their lives.
None of them would ever admit it though, since this type of thing goes against their Christian
beliefs and is considered taboo. Whatever the truth is within Ghana, it is highly evident that the
money that these priests receive for their services is more than enough to live a comfortable

The Btk Killer By Dennis Lynn Rader
Dennis Lynn Rader was born on March 9, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Kansas. His mother, Dorothea Mae
Cook, and father, William Elvin Rader, had three sons in addition to Dennis. In 1975, he married
Paula Dietz, and they had one son and one daughter. Throughout his childhood, Dennis displayed
signs of what he would become later in life. In reports, as well as his own confession, he tortured
animals and had a fetish with women s underwear. Dennis, also known as the BTK killer, had at
least ten victims throughout his life. He became known as the BTK killer because of his modus
operandi: bind, torture, kill. Dennis worked alone, and all of his murders occurred in and around
Wichita, Kansas (Blanco). Dennis Rader began working for the home... Show more content on

His next murder did not occur until 1985 when he killed his neighbor Marine Hedge and left her
body on the side of the road. The following year, authorities discovered Vicki Wegerle in her
home. In 1991, Rader killed his final victim, Dolores Davis ( Dennis Rader ). BTK had a total of
ten victims, most of whom were women. There was a lot of evidence that pointed to Rader as
the BTK Killer. DNA from semen, as well as from underneath Vicki Wegerle s fingernails,
matched Dennis Rader. Rader s writing style matched up to all of the letters and poems that
BTK had sent to authorities and local newspapers. The payphone that he used to report a murder
was only a few blocks away from his job at the time, which was at ADT. Many different pieces of
evidence led back to Wichita State University, which he had attended in the 1970s. Photocopies
had been made on campus, poems were similar to a song taught by one of the professors at the
university, and BTK even asked Kevin Bright, the man who was shot and managed to survive, if
he had seen him at the university. Rader was neighbors with one of his victims. He sent trophies to
police along with his letters. Rader had many different jobs throughout the thirty years in which he
was acting as BTK, and he worked for some of the same companies as his

Use Of Hydrogen Fuel Cells Is Better Than The Use Of...
A lot of people in our society have been questioning whether the use of hydrogen fuel cells is
better than the use of fossil fuels. Each of the two differs from the other massively. They are made
in different ways, have different outcomes, advantages and disadvantages, so in order to consider
which of the two should be promoted all of the things mentioned should be first analysed.
Fossil fuels are defined as hydrocarbons primarily coal, fuel oil or natural gas, which is formed
from the remains of dead plants and animals. When these fuels are burnt, the energy released can be
harnessed to produce electricity. Fossil fuels are the most popular form of energy as they have very
low ignition temperature. All fossil fuels undergo through the process of combustion. Combustion
necessarily requires oxygen. All the reactions are exothermic in nature which therefore means they
give out heat and sometimes light. The constituent hydrogen and oxygen react with each other
chemically and produce high amount of heat and energy. Different fossil fuels burn at different
rates because the structures of the hydrocarbons are different in each of these compounds.
However, one common by product of each of these fossil fuel is carbon dioxide.
The combustion of fossil fuels can be shown by an example of a simple combustion reaction for
methane. The combustion of methane means that it is possible to burn it. Chemically, this
combustion process consists of a reaction between methane and oxygen in

Aladdin a Disney Fairytale
A long, long time ago, in the year of 1992, a very famous Disney Fairytale hit the big screen.
Aladdin is about a young orphan on a fascinating journey to becoming a heroic man. The
majority of people are unaware of the qualifications of a real hero. Many people think the only
way to achieve heroism is by dying for something or someone you love. There are heroes
everywhere you look, Disney movies, fairytales, cartoons, books etc. A hero doesn t have to
possess unusual superpowers like, immortality, time traveling, invisibility, mind control or
superhuman strength. In fact, some super heroes possess nothing more than, love, generosity,
kindness, cheer and trust. Sometimes all you need to be a hero is abandonment at birth, a friend
and a will to survive. This is exactly why I chose the Disney character of Aladdin. This charming
story, made famous by Disney takes place in the Middle East. The trials and tribulations of Aladdin
include moments of love, adventure, trickery, and deceit. Aladdin embarks in this journey
unintentionally but proves to have endured a comprehensive maturation of character while
achieving valuable insight about who is truly is and what he stands for by the time he completes his
adventure. When following the journey of a hero you will usually find something on the lines of an
unusual birth, or something unique about the hero s childhood. Aladdin was born to his father,
Cassim and his mother, who is unnamed in the film. Cassim left Aladdin and his mother

  • 2. Depersonalization In Frrantz Fanon s Black Skin, White Man Frantz Fanon was one of the leading theorists of postcolonialism. His career as a psychiatrist gave him a unique perspective and allowed him to focus on the identity formation of the colonized subject and racial injustice. Fanon s insight and view of colonization helped to further explain course material. In Fanon s famous work Black Skin, White Mask, it became obvious how prevalent and severe racism was at that time (Julien). According to Fanon, it led to depersonalization which was so strong that colored people ultimately had to wear a white mask in order to survive. I believe that it s very sad that colored people weren t allowed to fully embrace who they were are and weren t able to live peacefully with the whites. Nobody should have to pretend to be someone whom they aren t. In Frantz Fanon s book titled The Wretched of the Earth, Frantz Fanon asserts that decolonization will always entail violent armed struggles between the colonized and the colonists. He makes several main points to substantiate such a bold and sweeping claim. Fanon states, At whatever level we study decolonization, it is quite simply the substitution of one species of mankind by another. The substitution is absolute, total, and seamless (Fanon 1). When colonization first begins in a certain region, fights soon break out between the natives and the colonists in hopes to preserve their land and freedom. When the natives lose, they then have to follow the colonist s rules and regulations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Impact Of Budget Cuts On Educational Institutions And... A society s culture is built through time and consists of many variables that can depend on many different factors. For a person to understand the relativism of other cultures they must open their mind and try to see from another perspective. Through this assignment I will put my shift my mind to an outsider s etic view to enable me to examine my own culture. Furthermore, I will jump on the side of an insider to gain the emic perspective of a culture as if I have lived in it. In this paper I will specifically examine my own cultures educational crisis from an outsider s perspective to understand where the failures are in our education. I will then dive into an insider s perspective to the act and reasons behind suicide terrorism, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Different American educational policies and practices can be determined by multiple factors such as demographic considerations, budget concerns, economic impact and cultural values Shapiro (2013). American higher education is described by Engell and Dangerfield (2005) as The fastest expanding and often strongest motivation in American higher education is now money (as quoted in Bean, 2007, page 240). For instance, budget cuts have been administered nearly all over the country but how does it affect the institutions within that state. It was a new idea of decorating but to make it a profession, that s what made the difference. During this time a few women made history, Elsie de Wolfe, Eleanor McMillen Brown, and Dorothy Draper. Their styles and way of doing things put them down in the books as some of the greatest. Between the decorators their styles vary, some have similarities while some are completely different. For instance, Elsie de Wolfewho is considered to be the first lady of interior decoration believed in simplicity, suitability, and proportion. She hated the Victorian style but she loved the complete opposite, French style. Everything had to be white and gold with elegant warm colors that made the spaces a soft eighteenth century French sophistication. Wolfe became known as the Chintz Lady immediately after the Colony opened in 1907, when she introduced a casual feminine style with an abundance of glazed chintz. As the pastor explained the brutality of human trafficking, an image began to form in my head of a young prepubescent girl forced into compromising positions. Then, the pastor stated something that broke my heart, the majority of these girls were not captured, but sold. They were sold by their fathers, or other members of their families. This situation is depressingly similar to the biblical account of Joseph being sold for a few pieces of silver by his own brothers, and then dragged from Canaan to Egypt, over 200 miles. We prefer to think the concept of selling people into slavery as if they were simple animals as an ancient practice the human race has finally surpassed. Unfortunately we are very wrong. There are several people that agree with foodregulation in schools and restaurants, but others have different opinions. From the beginning, we learn that Frank, who is a father of six, is extremely narrow minded and selfish. He has a hard time understanding his children s thoughts and feelings, which is unusual for the average father. Like Frank, the narrator in Raymond Carvers short story Cathedral demonstrates his inability to understand others thoughts and emotions because of his own narrow minded, selfish thoughts and actions. This is portrayed throughout the beginning of the story. First, we are shown his prejudicial thoughts towards the blind man simply because he is blind. He then expresses his selfishness as well as a hint of jealousy when he comments on the relationship between the blind man and his wife, while displaying an overall negative attitude about the man s visit. Despite his negative characterization, much like many other intriguing dynamic characters, the narrator comes realize his own blindness towards the end of the story. This encourages him to be more self aware, as well as sympathetic to others and the world around him. Raymond Carver chose to make the narrator a dynamic character to successfully illustrate how many people, at some point in their life, will realize a certain, unsettling conflict they have within themselves and learn from it. The narrator being a dynamic character, symbolizes those members in today s society. In the story, the narrator realizes his internal conflict when despite the image of a cathedral being on the TV right in front of him, he cannot verbally explain what it is. This creates an unsettling feeling within the narrator. This then helps him to later realize his own shallow nature and, in a sense, how he himself is blind . Financially being able to afford life after college is a priority that many students carefully plan for. The only issue both sides do agree on is that the majors most student s are currently studying will not have a high demand for job placement once they graduate with their degrees. The two communities say the majors that most student s study will not provide them with the economic resources they may need to be sufficient during post college. In 2007 unemployment rates for student s who had a bachelor s degree was 4.9 percent and 8.5 percent for people with associates degrees and high school diplomas (Billitteri). Providing proof that the job market and the majors that students were choosing did not coincide with one another, resulting in the two communities claiming money may have been wasted in order to educate the unemployed, also assuming the money invested did not go to proper use. The rise of slave morality gave these moral concepts present meaning. If humans did not have a conscience, they would do whatever they want to without thinking. The concept of guilt is related to the concept of debt. If an autonomous individual inflicts pain on another individual as result of anger, they will feel that they would owe the individual for the pain they caused. Types Of Investments And Bonds Introduction This paper will examine two basic types of investments; stock and bonds, from an investor s perspective highlighting the advantages and disadvantages between common stock (equity) and corporate bonds (debt). Webster Dictionary defines investment as the outlay of money usually for income or profit usually in a tangible asset such as property . With both stocks and bonds, the only thing tangible is a simple piece of paper, a certificate. On the surface, these certificates may seem the same, however there is a very important fundamental difference. Owning a stock certificate is evidence of being a shareholder; hence money is exchanged for a portion of ownership in a company. A bond certificate, on the other hand, represents a contract and evidence of giving a loan to a company. Stocks are considered equity investments and bonds debt investments. This key difference brings its own set of pros and cons to each of these types of investment and affects their level of risk and return. The Advantages of Stocks Corporations issue both stocks and bonds to raise capital to purchase land, equipment, building, or even pay off debt. However, there are several advantages to investors to purchase a stock in a corporation over bonds. First, when you purchase a share of stock you essentially become a part owner in the company. With this ownership comes special privileges, such as the right to vote on who sits on the board of directors and on matters that could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Robert Browning s The Ring And The Book Although the early part of Robert Browning s creative life was spent in comparative obscurity, he has come to be regarded as one of the most important poets of the Victorian period. His dramatic monologues and the psycho historical epic The Ring and the Book (1868 1869), a novel in verse, have established him as a major figure in the history of English poetry. His claim to attention as a children s writer is more modest, resting as it does almost entirely on one poem, The Pied Piper of Hamelin, included almost as an afterthought in Bells and Pomegranites. Browning was born on 7 May 1812 in Camberwell, a middle class suburb of London; he was the only son of Robert Browning, a clerk in the Bank of England, and a devoutly religious German Scotch mother, Sarah Anna Wiedemann Browning. While all of these may hold true, one specific person comes to mind at the mention of a detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Along with images of detectives come preconceived ideas of what a detective or mystery novel should be or what it should contain. Within the genre, numerous authors have stood out among the others and set their own standard for these works of literature. In The Hound of the Baskervillesby Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Doyle employs juxtaposed settings, descriptive imagery, and the symbolism that each convey to establish an immense attention to detail which maximizes the effectiveness of his writing in the genre of detection in this classic Sherlock Holmes story. Throughout the novel, Doyle sets up an immense contrast between the settings of the story which acts as a guide to clearly distinguish between the locations and give insight into their symbolism. In The Hound of the Baskervilles there are two distinct locations in which the story takes place, London and Dartmoor. Each of the two differs from the other massively. They are made in different ways, have different outcomes, advantages and disadvantages, so in order to consider which of the two should be promoted all of the things mentioned should be first analysed. Fossil fuels are defined as hydrocarbons primarily coal, fuel oil or natural gas, which is formed from the remains of dead plants and animals. When these fuels are burnt, the energy released can be harnessed to produce electricity. Fossil fuels are the most popular form of energy as they have very low ignition temperature. All fossil fuels undergo through the process of combustion. Combustion necessarily requires oxygen. All the reactions are exothermic in nature which therefore means they give out heat and sometimes light. The constituent hydrogen and oxygen react with each other chemically and produce high amount of heat and energy. Different fossil fuels burn at different rates because the structures of the hydrocarbons are different in each of these compounds. However, one common by product of each of these fossil fuel is carbon dioxide. The combustion of fossil fuels can be shown by an example of a simple combustion reaction for methane. The combustion of methane means that it is possible to burn it. Chemically, this combustion process consists of a reaction between methane and oxygen in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people think the only way to achieve heroism is by dying for something or someone you love. There are heroes everywhere you look, Disney movies, fairytales, cartoons, books etc. A hero doesn t have to possess unusual superpowers like, immortality, time traveling, invisibility, mind control or superhuman strength. In fact, some super heroes possess nothing more than, love, generosity, kindness, cheer and trust. Sometimes all you need to be a hero is abandonment at birth, a friend and a will to survive.
